- 4:36Speaker 4: Previously on Ghost Stories and the Unusual Paranormal Podcast. Joe
- 4:42Speaker 4: the Ghost Guy told us a special Halloween episode about
- 4:46Speaker 4: a family who celebrated Halloween in a town that doesn't
- 4:50Speaker 4: celebrate the holiday. And for good reason, too. The town
- 4:56Speaker 4: had a scary and horrible event happen to them where
- 4:59Speaker 4: children were disappearing. And exactly one year later, they returned
- 5:04Speaker 4: in the exact same costumes that they disappeared in. The
- 5:08Speaker 4: kids were not the same ever again. They had a
- 5:11Speaker 4: different look about them. And the family saw the mysterious, dark,
- 5:16Speaker 4: tall man in black with a top hat. And the
- 5:19Speaker 4: evil harvester.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Who had a pumpkin for a head.
- 5:24Speaker 4: And the evil and horrible aftermath. And the outcome that
- 5:28Speaker 4: happened to the family and the town itself. Where is
- 5:31Speaker 4: he going to go next? Let's tune into this episode
- 5:35Speaker 4: and see, shall we? On Ghost Stories and the Unusual
- 5:39Speaker 4: Paranormal Podcast. with your spooky ghost investigator, Joe the Ghost Guy.
- 5:48Speaker 3: The following story you're about to hear was made by
- 5:52Speaker 3: one of our listeners who happened to ask me about
- 6:00Speaker 3: this episode. So this episode is requested by... by one
- 6:09Speaker 3: of our listeners. So, good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and
- 6:17Speaker 3: welcome back to Ghost Stories and the Unusual Paranormal Podcast.
- 6:23Speaker 3: I am your spooky host, Joe the Ghost Guy. Tonight,
- 6:29Speaker 3: I want you to imagine something. You're driving alone on
- 6:36Speaker 3: a deserted highway It's just after midnight. Where there are
- 6:44Speaker 3: no headlights behind you. No houses. No towns. Only darkness
- 6:52Speaker 3: stretching for miles and miles. In every direction. Your radio
- 7:00Speaker 3: begins to crackle. You reach towards the dial. Searching. For
- 7:08Speaker 3: another station. Something. Like country music. Nothing but static. A preacher.
- 7:21Speaker 3: More static.
- 7:23Speaker 1: And then. A voice.
- 7:28Speaker 3: A voice that knows your name.
- 7:31Speaker 1: A voice.
- 7:32Speaker 3: That knows. Where you're going. a voice that tells you
- 7:41Speaker 3: exactly how you're going to die. But here is the
- 7:49Speaker 3: terrifying part. The person speaking died more than 70 years ago.
- 7:58Speaker 3: And the radio station you're listening to, well, it burned
- 8:07Speaker 3: to the ground Back in 1953. Tonight. We are entering.
- 8:16Speaker 3: The world of the haunted. Radio frequency. Mysterious transmissions. And voices.
- 8:25Speaker 3: That should never have been heard. This is a fictional nightmare.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Of station. WDRK. A radio station that doesn't broadcast to
- 8:42Speaker 3: the living. A station that doesn't appear on any map.
- 8:49Speaker 3: And a frequency that can only be heard just after midnight.
- 8:58Speaker 3: This is The Dead Frequency. October 31st. 1953. Deep in
- 9:10Speaker 3: the mountains of northern Pennsylvania stood a lonely radio transmission tower.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Its red warning light blinked above a forest of dead trees.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Below it was a small broadcasting building with a faded sign.
- 9:34Speaker 5: W.D.
- 9:37Speaker 3: RK 107.7 FM, the voice of the valley. The station
- 9:46Speaker 3: was operated by a man named Arthur Blackwood. Arthur was
- 9:53Speaker 3: a respected radio announcer. He had a smooth communication. comforting
- 10:00Speaker 3: voice that listeners recognized immediately. Every evening, he signed off
- 10:08Speaker 3: with the same familiar words. Until tomorrow, my friends, keep
- 10:13Speaker 3: your radios close and remember, you're never truly alone. But
- 10:22Speaker 3: on Halloween night in 1953, something changed. At precisely 11.47 p.m.,
- 10:37Speaker 3: Arthur received a telephone call inside the broadcast booth. Arthur answered, Station, W. DRK,
- 10:49Speaker 3: Arthur Blackwood speaking. Nothing. Only breathing. Hello? Then a woman's
- 11:03Speaker 3: voice whispered.
- 11:05Speaker 6: Arthur, don't turn around.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Arthur froze. He recognized the voice. It belonged to his wife, Margaret.
- 11:18Speaker 3: But Margaret had died in a car accident three years earlier. Margaret?
- 11:28Speaker 3: The voice began to cry.
- 11:32Speaker 6: Arthur, please. They're standing behind you.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Arthur slowly turned his head. The broadcasting booth was empty.
- 11:45Speaker 3: He looked back towards the telephone. The line had gone dead.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Then the radio equipment began turning itself on. Every dial
- 12:01Speaker 3: rotated towards the same frequency, 107.7. The overhead lights flickered.
- 12:12Speaker 3: The on-air sign glowed red. And the second voice, began
- 12:20Speaker 3: speaking through Arthur's headphones. A man's voice, deep and wet,
- 12:30Speaker 3: as though it was speaking through a mouth filled with water.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Good evening, Arthur.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Arthur whipped off his headphones. The voice continued through the
- 12:46Speaker 3: studio speakers.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Been waiting for you.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Arthur reached for the power switch. Nothing happened. He unplugged
- 13:00Speaker 3: the transmitter. Still, the voice continued. Then came the sound
- 13:08Speaker 3: of children laughing. Hundreds of children. Their laughter slowly twisted
- 13:16Speaker 3: into screams. Arthur grabbed the microphone Whatever you're doing, this
- 13:23Speaker 3: has to stop now. The voice replied, Arthur, you.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Have spent your life broadcasting to the living.
- 13:37Speaker 3: A long pause.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Tonight, you will be broadcast to the dead.
- 13:44Speaker 3: At 1159, residents throughout the valley heard Arthur Blackwood screaming
- 13:54Speaker 3: over the radios. He begged for help. He shouted at
- 13:59Speaker 3: the people who were crawling out of the walls. He
- 14:05Speaker 3: described pale faces pressing against the studio windows, faces without eyes,
- 14:15Speaker 3: mouths stretched impossibly wide. Then, Exactly midnight, Arthur whispered one
- 14:25Speaker 3: final sentence. They're not coming through the radio. The radio
- 14:32Speaker 3: is bringing us to them. Seconds later, the broadcasting station
- 14:40Speaker 3: caught fire by morning. Nothing remained except the tower and
- 14:48Speaker 3: the blackened concrete foundation. Arthur Blackwood's body was never recovered.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Investigators found no explanation for the fire, but something even
- 15:05Speaker 3: stranger happened. Although WDRK was officially destroyed, listeners continuing to
- 15:15Speaker 3: reporting broadcasts On 107.7 FM. Always after midnight. Always during storms.
- 15:30Speaker 3: And always with the same voice. Good evening, my friends.
- 15:35Speaker 3: This is Arthur Blackwood. And tonight, we have someone new
- 15:41Speaker 3: joining us. 70 years later. October 31st, 2023. A truck
- 15:52Speaker 3: driver named Daniel Mercer was traveling a long route. A
- 16:00Speaker 3: remote stretch of highway. It was 2.13 in the morning.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Rain hammered his windshield. His headlights illuminated. The twisted road ahead.
- 16:16Speaker 3: Daniel had been driving for 11 hours. To keep himself awake,
- 16:25Speaker 3: he turned on the radio. Stations faded in and out.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Then his radio suddenly stopped on 107.7 FM. An old-fashioned
- 16:48Speaker 3: orchestra played softly. The music sounded warped as though the
- 16:55Speaker 3: recordings were being played underwater. A man's voice interrupted. Good evening,
- 17:05Speaker 3: ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to WBRK. Daniel laughed. What kind
- 17:13Speaker 3: of radio station is this? The announcer continued. Tonight, we
- 17:20Speaker 3: have a new listener. The music stopped. His name is
- 17:28Speaker 3: Daniel Mercer. Daniel's smile disappeared. His hands tightened around the
- 17:35Speaker 3: steering wheel. The announcer chuckled. Daniel is currently traveling north
- 17:43Speaker 3: on Highway 19. Daniel looked towards the GPS. He was
- 17:49Speaker 3: on Highway 19. Daniel was driving a blue Freightliner truck.
- 17:57Speaker 3: His truck was blue. And it was a Freightliner. Daniel
- 18:04Speaker 3: has a photograph of his daughter hanging from his dashboard.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Daniel slowly looked at the photograph. His daughter, Emily, was
- 18:16Speaker 3: smiling back at him. He reached for the radio. The
- 18:21Speaker 3: announcer spoke again. Don't turn us off, Daniel. Daniel jerked
- 18:27Speaker 3: his hand away. Who the hell is this? The announcer
- 18:34Speaker 3: laughed softly. Daniel, we have something important to tell you.
- 18:42Speaker 3: A faint, scratching sound emerged from the speakers. At 2.17 a.m.,
- 18:51Speaker 3: you will see a woman standing at the road. Daniel
- 18:57Speaker 3: checked his clock.
- 19:00Speaker 4: 2.15.
- 19:01Speaker 3: She'll be wearing a white nightgown. The truck's headlights swept
- 19:09Speaker 3: around the bend. She'll be holding a little girl's hand.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Daniel swallowed. Stop it. The voice continued. You will slam
- 19:22Speaker 3: on your brakes. The clock changed to 16. You will
- 19:30Speaker 3: turn your steering wheel. Daniel's breath became shallow. And you
- 19:37Speaker 3: will die. He punched the radio power button. The display
- 19:43Speaker 3: went black. But the voice continued. Daniel. Now the sound
- 19:51Speaker 3: was coming from the truck's dashboard. From the CB radio.
- 19:56Speaker 3: From the speakers of a cell phone. Daniel, you had
- 20:02Speaker 3: 30 seconds. He accelerated. Rain straight across his windshield. 20 seconds.
- 20:12Speaker 3: The road curved sharply. 10 seconds. Then Daniel saw her.
- 20:19Speaker 3: The woman standing in the middle of the highway. White nightgown.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Long black hair covering her face. And beside her, a
- 20:30Speaker 3: little girl. Daniel screamed. He slammed in the brakes. The
- 20:38Speaker 3: truck skidded sideways. Just before the vehicle struck the woman,
- 20:44Speaker 3: she raised her head. Her face was Daniel's face, only older, burned,
- 20:54Speaker 3: and smiling. The little girl looked up. It was Emily,
- 21:00Speaker 3: except her eyes were completely black. She opened her mouth
- 21:08Speaker 3: and spoke in Arthur's. Blackwood's voice. Welcome to the broadcast, Daniel.
- 21:16Speaker 3: At 2.17 a.m., Daniel Mercer was killed when his truck
- 21:23Speaker 3: went off the highway. Police found his radio still playing
- 21:30Speaker 3: and the station was turned to 107.7 FM and the
- 21:33Speaker 3: announcer was speaking Thank you, Daniel. Your transmission has been received.
- 21:47Speaker 3: And a new voice came over the speakers, Daniel's voice, screaming,
- 21:53Speaker 3: begging someone to let him out. In 2024, a paranormal
- 22:01Speaker 3: investigator named Rebecca Shaw began researching the unexplained radio transmissions.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Rebecca specialized in electronic voice phenomena, or EVPs. She had
- 22:19Speaker 3: spent years recording abandoned hospitals, cemeteries, and supposedly haunted houses.
- 22:28Speaker 3: But the stories surrounding WDRK fascinated her. A radio station
- 22:37Speaker 3: that had burnt down. A dead announcer. A mysterious broadcast
- 22:45Speaker 3: that seemed to predict deaths. Rebecca decided to investigate. She
- 22:53Speaker 3: traveled to the ruins of the original station. The concrete
- 22:59Speaker 3: foundation was overgrown with weeds. The old transmission tower stood
- 23:06Speaker 3: crooked against the gray sky. At the base, Rebecca discovered
- 23:13Speaker 3: a rusted metal door leaning.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Bleeding underground.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Inside was a staircase. The staircase that didn't appear on
- 23:26Speaker 3: any station's blueprint. She descended. At the bottom was a
- 23:32Speaker 3: narrow hallway. Walls were covered with strange symbols. There were
- 23:39Speaker 3: names scratched into the concrete, hundreds of names. Rebecca recognized
- 23:48Speaker 3: one immediately. Daniel Mercer, October 31st, 2023. She touched the writing.
- 23:59Speaker 3: She noticed another name beneath it. Rebecca Shaw, October 31st.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Her blood ran cold. Blower name was a time, 3.33 a.m.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Rebecca checked her watch. It was 3.12 a.m. She had
- 24:29Speaker 3: 22 minutes. Suddenly, somewhere in the darkness, a radio switched on.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Good evening, Rebecca. Good evening, Rebecca. Author Blackwood's voice echoed
- 24:47Speaker 3: through the hallway. We are so pleased you've finally come.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Rebecca turned toward the stairs, but the stairs were gone.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Where the staircase had been has now a solid concrete wall.
- 25:09Speaker 3: She began pounding on it.
- 25:12Speaker 6: Help! Somebody help me!
- 25:15Speaker 3: The voice replied, No one can hear you, Rebecca.
- 25:22Speaker 1: A pause.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Not until we put you on the air. Rebecca followed
- 25:31Speaker 3: the sound of the broadcast down the hallway, and it read,
- 25:37Speaker 3: At the end of was a hallway having that steel door.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Above it glowed a red sign on air. She pushed
- 25:49Speaker 3: the door open. Inside was a broadcasting studio. Not burned.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Not abandoned. Perfectly preserved. A wooden desk. A vintage microphone.
- 26:06Speaker 3: reel-to-reel recording machines, and hundreds of radio lining the walls.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Every radio was turned at the frequency 88.1, 91.3, 94.7, 101.9,
- 26:19Speaker 3: and 107.7. Each radio played a different human voice. One
- 26:40Speaker 3: was crying. The other was praying. A man screaming for
- 26:48Speaker 3: his mother. A woman whispered that something was breathing beneath
- 26:56Speaker 3: her bed. Rebecca approached one of the radios. A child's voice.
- 27:04Speaker 3: came through.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Mommy, I'm scared.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Another radio crackled. Please, don't open the door.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Another.
- 27:20Speaker 3: It's a warning. My husband's face.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Another.
- 27:25Speaker 3: I can't hear it walking inside the walls. Rebecca realized
- 27:33Speaker 3: what she was hearing. These weren't recordings of ghosts. These
- 27:39Speaker 3: were the final moments of people who had disappeared. Every
- 27:45Speaker 3: radio was connected to a different victim. Then one radio
- 27:52Speaker 3: began to play a familiar voice, her own.
- 27:59Speaker 6: Please, somebody help me.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Rebecca stepped backwards. The voice continued.
- 28:08Speaker 6: It's behind me.
- 28:12Speaker 3: She stared at the radio. She hadn't said those words.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Not yet. Then something moved behind her. A chair creaked.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Rebecca turned. A man was sitting in the broadcast desk.
- 28:33Speaker 3: He wore a dark 1950s suit. He was thin and
- 28:40Speaker 3: his skin was gray. His lips were cracked. His eyes
- 28:48Speaker 3: were two empty black sockets. It was Arthur Blackwood. Hello, Rebecca.
- 28:56Speaker 3: His mouth didn't move. The words came from every radio
- 29:03Speaker 3: in the room. Rebecca whispered, What are you? Arthur tilted
- 29:12Speaker 3: his head. I was once a man. The radios began hissing.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Then I heard the frequency. Rebecca backed towards the door.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Arthur stood. His body made a sound. Of dry wood snapping.
- 29:37Speaker 3: The dead. Need grace.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Rebecca.
- 29:43Speaker 3: He stretched one skeletal hand. They need some water to speak.
- 29:50Speaker 3: The studio lights dimmed, and every time someone listens, a
- 29:57Speaker 3: terrible smile Spread across his face. We get a little closer.
- 30:04Speaker 3: To coming through.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Rebecca.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Tried to escape. But the studio door. Slammed shut. The radios.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Began to turn. Themselves up. Their dials spun violently. The
- 30:23Speaker 3: room filled with screams. Then Arthur. pointed towards a large
- 30:29Speaker 3: black radio in the corner. It was unlike any others.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Its casing was made of dark metal and where no
- 30:45Speaker 3: manufacturer markings, only a frequency displayed, 0.0 megahertz. REBECCA STARED.
- 30:58Speaker 6: THAT'S NOT AN NFM FREQUENCY.
- 31:04Speaker 3: ARTHUR NODDED. CORRECT. HE LEANED CLOSER. THAT IS THE FREQUENCY
- 31:13Speaker 3: BETWEEN FREQUENCIES. THE BLACK RADIO BEGAN HUMMING. A LOW SOUND.
- 31:23Speaker 3: DEEPER THAN THUNDER. REBECCA felt it vibrating through her bones.
- 31:32Speaker 3: Arthur whispered, Before there were people, there were voices. The
- 31:41Speaker 3: radio speaker bulged outward. Before these were stars. Something was listening.
- 31:54Speaker 3: The metal casing began crackling. And when humanity invented the radio,
- 32:01Speaker 3: a long black finger pushed through the speaker grill. We
- 32:09Speaker 3: finally gave it a door. Rebecca screamed. Another finger emerged.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Then another. A hand unfolded from the speaker. It was
- 32:25Speaker 3: far away. too large to fit inside the radio. The
- 32:30Speaker 3: fingers were long and jointed backward. The skin looked like
- 32:40Speaker 3: it was wet ash. The second emerged, then a face,
- 32:48Speaker 3: a face made of hundreds of smaller faces. Some were crying.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Some were laughing. Some were silently mouthing words. In the
- 33:04Speaker 3: center was a huge black mouth. Inside the mouth were
- 33:10Speaker 3: rows of human teeth. Thousands of them. The creature slowly
- 33:16Speaker 3: pulled itself from the radio. Its body unfolded like a
- 33:23Speaker 3: normal spider. Rebecca pressed herself against the wall. The creature spoke,
- 33:32Speaker 3: but his voice was not one voice.
- 33:37Speaker 1: It was.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Every voice that had heard that night. Men, women, children,
- 33:48Speaker 3: the dying, the dead, they all spoke together.
- 33:54Speaker 1: We heard you listening.
- 33:58Speaker 3: Arthur Blackwood fell to his knees. Master! The creature turned
- 34:05Speaker 3: towards him. His mouth opened. Arthur screamed. His body collapsed
- 34:12Speaker 3: into a cloud of black dust. Then every radio in
- 34:20Speaker 3: the room began broadcasting his scream. Rebecca covered her eyes.
- 34:28Speaker 3: The creature crawled towards her, its limbs scraping across the floor.
- 34:35Speaker 3: The face twisted, and suddenly, among the hundreds of faces,
- 34:42Speaker 3: Rebecca saw her own. She washed her face, slightly mouthed
- 34:49Speaker 3: three words.
- 34:51Speaker 6: Don't let it here.
- 34:56Speaker 3: Rebecca understood. It wasn't following her movements. It was following sound.
- 35:04Speaker 3: She stopped screaming, held her breath, and stood perfectly still.
- 35:11Speaker 3: The creature froze. An enormous head turned slowly, listening. Rebecca
- 35:20Speaker 3: could hear her heartbeat. The creature moved closer. Its mouth
- 35:28Speaker 3: opened beside her ear and whispered in her mother's.
- 35:34Speaker 6: Voice, Rebecca, sweetheart.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Rebecca began to cry. Her mother had died when she
- 35:45Speaker 3: was 17.
- 35:48Speaker 6: Please answer me.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Rebecca pressed her lips together.
- 35:54Speaker 6: Don't you remember me?
- 35:58Speaker 3: The creature's mouth widened.
- 36:00Speaker 6: Just say one word.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Rebecca closed her eyes. Then the radio behind her clicked.
- 36:12Speaker 3: And little girl's voice whispered.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Mommy?
- 36:18Speaker 3: Rebecca gasped. The creature lunged.
- 36:24Speaker 1: At 3.33 a.m.
- 36:28Speaker 3: Every radio within 50 miles of the abandoned WDRK station
- 36:36Speaker 3: suddenly changed frequency. Car radios, kitchen radios, emergency scanners, police
- 36:46Speaker 3: communication equipment, everything compatible of receiving mysterious transmissions began producing
- 36:56Speaker 3: The same sound.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Static.
- 37:00Speaker 3: Then a woman's voice. Rebecca Shaw.
- 37:05Speaker 6: Hello? Can anyone hear me?
- 37:08Speaker 3: A pause.
- 37:12Speaker 6: Please, if you're listening, turn off your radio.
- 37:18Speaker 3: The static grew louder.
- 37:21Speaker 6: It's not a station.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Her voice began trembling.
- 37:28Speaker 6: It's not a ghost.
- 37:32Speaker 3: A horrible scratching sound interrupted.
- 37:36Speaker 1: It's something that lives inside the signal.
- 37:44Speaker 3: Then came a little mysterious breathing. Rebecca screamed.
- 37:50Speaker 6: It can't hear you.
- 37:54Speaker 3: The transmission cut out. For 13 seconds, every affected radio
- 38:03Speaker 3: went silent. Then a different voice began speaking. A soft,
- 38:11Speaker 3: friendly voice. It was Arthur Blackwood. Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
- 38:19Speaker 3: A faint orchestra began playing. We apologize for our interruption.
- 38:27Speaker 3: A long pause. Our previous guest had unexpected, some technical
- 38:34Speaker 3: difficulties were experienced. The announcer chuckled. But don't worry, she's
- 38:43Speaker 3: still here. And in the background, a woman's voice began screaming.
- 38:50Speaker 3: It was Rebecca. Her screams grew fainter. as though she
- 38:57Speaker 3: was beginning to be drugged down a.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Very long hallway.
- 39:04Speaker 3: Arthur continued, And now, my dear listeners, we have something
- 39:09Speaker 3: truly special planned. The music stopped. For seventy years, we
- 39:16Speaker 3: have been waiting for the right moment. A low, electrical
- 39:22Speaker 3: hum filled the air. The right frequency. Aham.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Hula.
- 39:31Speaker 3: The right number of listeners. Then Arthur whispered, And tonight,
- 39:39Speaker 3: his voice changed. It became deeper, colder, impossible.
- 39:48Speaker 1: We have enough.
- 39:52Speaker 3: November 3rd, 2026. A man named Michael Harris sat alone
- 40:04Speaker 3: in his basement workshop. He was an amateur radio enthusiast.
- 40:11Speaker 3: For years, he had collected antique receivers, shortwave radios, and
- 40:19Speaker 3: old broadcasting equipment. On his workbench sat a beautifully restored
- 40:28Speaker 3: 1950s radio. He had purchased it at an estate sale.
- 40:35Speaker 3: The previous owner had died unexpectedly. Inside the wooden cabinet,
- 40:43Speaker 3: Michael had found a handwritten warning. Do not turn to 107.7.
- 40:52Speaker 3: After midnight. Michael assumed it was a joke. That night,
- 40:58Speaker 3: shortly after midnight, he turned on the radio. The tubes
- 41:04Speaker 3: warmed up. The dial flowed amber. He slowly turned the
- 41:13Speaker 3: tuning knob. 103.5 105.1 106.7 Then turned it to 107.7. Static.
- 41:31Speaker 3: Then there was music. An old-fashioned orchestra. Michael smiled. What
- 41:40Speaker 3: the hell? A voice spoke. Good evening, Michael.
- 41:46Speaker 1: He froze.
- 41:49Speaker 3: The voice continued. We have been expecting you. Michael leaned closer.
- 41:58Speaker 3: Who the hell is this? A low chuckle. Michael, do
- 42:04Speaker 3: you believe in ghosts? Michael swallowed. Is somebody messing with me?
- 42:11Speaker 3: The announcer ignored him. Do you believe the dead can speak?
- 42:21Speaker 3: Michael reached towards the power switch. Because tonight, Michael, the
- 42:27Speaker 3: radio dial began glowing red. You're going to hear something extraordinary.
- 42:34Speaker 3: A second voice merged. A woman's voice, familiar, terribly familiar.
- 42:44Speaker 6: Michael?
- 42:46Speaker 3: His eyes widened. It was his wife, Susan. Susan had
- 42:53Speaker 3: been dead for two years earlier.
- 42:58Speaker 6: Michael, please help me.
- 43:02Speaker 3: Tears filled his eyes. Susan?
- 43:05Speaker 6: I'm so cold.
- 43:10Speaker 3: Michael touched the radio. Where are you? Her voice trembled.
- 43:18Speaker 6: I'm inside.
- 43:22Speaker 3: Inside where? The radio began vibrating.
- 43:28Speaker 6: Inside the walls.
- 43:31Speaker 3: Michael looked around his basement. A soft knocking came from
- 43:40Speaker 3: behind the drywall. Three knocks, then three more.
- 43:48Speaker 6: Michael, please let me out.
- 43:52Speaker 3: He stepped towards the wall. The knocking came louder. Then
- 43:58Speaker 3: he heard scratching. Something was moving inside the wall. Something large.
- 44:07Speaker 3: Michael grabbed a hammer. He struck the drywall once, twice,
- 44:14Speaker 3: three times. A hole opened. Cold air poured into the basement.
- 44:22Speaker 3: He shone a flashlight through the opening. There was no insulation.
- 44:29Speaker 3: No wooden frame. No foundation. Only darkness. A vast darkness
- 44:38Speaker 3: stretching impossibly far beyond the wall. Then he saw something moving.
- 44:46Speaker 3: A pale face. It was Susan's face. She was standing
- 44:55Speaker 3: deep inside the darkness. Her mouth was open. Her eyes
- 45:01Speaker 3: were filled with terror.
- 45:04Speaker 6: Michael?
- 45:06Speaker 3: He reached towards her. He took her hand violently. She
- 45:14Speaker 3: shook her head violently. Michael froze. Then Susan began screaming.
- 45:23Speaker 6: That isn't me.
- 45:26Speaker 3: Something behind her moved. A towering shape unfolded from the darkness.
- 45:34Speaker 3: Long arms. A body covered in faces. Enormous mouth. And
- 45:41Speaker 3: thousands of human voices whipping together.
- 45:45Speaker 5: Thank you for opening the door. The basement lights exploded.
- 45:54Speaker 5: Michael stumbled backwards. The creature began forcing its way through
- 46:00Speaker 5: the opening. Its fingers gripped the drywall. The walls bent outward.
- 46:11Speaker 5: The floor shook. Daniel ran up the stairs. But halfway up,
- 46:20Speaker 5: he heard his own voice. Coming from the radio.
- 46:25Speaker 3: Michael Harris. Died at 1217. A.M. He stopped. The clock
- 46:35Speaker 3: on the wall read. 1216. The announcer. Continued. Cause of death.
- 46:45Speaker 3: A pause. Then a laugh. Unknown. Unknown. Michael ran. Behind him,
- 46:56Speaker 3: the creature screamed. The sound was so powerful that every
- 47:02Speaker 3: wind on the house shattered. He reached for the basement door,
- 47:09Speaker 3: grabbed the handle, turned it, locked. From the other side,
- 47:16Speaker 3: someone whispering, Michael... Then Susan's voice again.
- 47:26Speaker 6: Michael, please don't open the door.
- 47:36Speaker 3: Michael backed away. The basement went silent. Then he heard footsteps. Slow.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Heavy.
- 47:47Speaker 3: Wet. Coming up the stairs. One step. Two steps. Three steps.
- 47:55Speaker 3: He turned and saw himself standing at the bottom. Another Michael.
- 48:04Speaker 3: His skin was pale. His eyes were empty. His mouth
- 48:10Speaker 3: hung open. From deep inside the throat came a sound
- 48:16Speaker 3: of the radio static. The other Michael smiled. And spoke
- 48:22Speaker 3: in an announcer's voice. You're listening to WDRK. And you know.
- 48:31Speaker 3: Now part of the program. Police arrived at Michael Harris' home.
- 48:39Speaker 3: The following morning. The front door was unlocked. Every light
- 48:46Speaker 3: in the house was burnt out. The basement was empty.
- 48:52Speaker 3: There was no sign of Michael Harris. No sign of
- 48:57Speaker 3: a struggle. No broken drywall. No mysterious opening. Only antique
- 49:06Speaker 3: radio sitting on the wooden workbench. It was unplugged. Power
- 49:14Speaker 3: switch was off. But the dial was glowing. 107.7 FM
- 49:25Speaker 3: the investigators reported hearing a voice coming from the speaker
- 49:30Speaker 3: a man's voice soft calm familiar Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
- 49:41Speaker 3: In another voice, Michael Harris crying, Please. Versus static. Please
- 49:52Speaker 3: don't listen. And Arthur Blackwood returned. Thank you for tuning in. Pause.
- 50:04Speaker 3: We have room for one more. Room began to... producing
- 50:11Speaker 3: a strange sound. Not music, not static, but breathing. As
- 50:20Speaker 3: though something enormous was pressed his mouth against the other
- 50:26Speaker 3: side of the speaker. Then it whispered, Who is listening now?
- 50:35Speaker 3: And so, my friends, tonight's story comes to an end,
- 50:43Speaker 3: before you turn off your lights, before you climb into bed,
- 50:50Speaker 3: before you close your eyes, think about something. Right now,
- 50:56Speaker 3: invisible radio signals are passing through your home, through your walls,
- 51:05Speaker 3: through your bathroom, through your bedroom, Through every air you're breathing.
- 51:14Speaker 3: Thousands of frequencies. Thousands of transmissions. Most of them harmless.
- 51:25Speaker 3: But what if there was something else? Something hiding between
- 51:33Speaker 3: the stations. Something that had been listening to humanity. For centuries.
- 51:42Speaker 3: Waiting for someone. To discover its frequency. Waiting for someone
- 51:48Speaker 3: to answer. And what if. Tonight. While you're laying in bed.
- 51:57Speaker 3: You hear a faint crackling sound. From an old radio.
- 52:03Speaker 3: That hasn't worked. In years. A radio. That hasn't been
- 52:09Speaker 3: plugged in. And from that radio comes a voice. A
- 52:15Speaker 3: voice that knows your name. A voice that whispers, Hello?
- 52:23Speaker 3: Can you hear me? Please, come closer. And whatever you do,
- 52:33Speaker 3: do not answer. Because someone's voice are not meant to
- 52:40Speaker 3: be heard. Some doors are not meant to be opened,
- 52:47Speaker 3: and some frequencies should not never have been found.
