AlterNet reports that Democrats made significant gains in August local elections in Hamilton and Knox counties, Tennessee, but did not overturn Republican dominance. They flipped three seats across county commissions and school boards, won control of the Knox County school board, and reduced large prior deficits in both county-mayor races to four points.
