- 2:11[SPEAKER_09]: So I don't like looking at the news to, uh, talk about in an episode.

- 3:26[SPEAKER_10]: Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go!
- 3:35[SPEAKER_02]: It was horrific.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_02]: It was the worst scene I have ever experienced.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_14]: It's senseless.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_14]: It really is for her own father to do that to her and them kids.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_13]: When the first reports came out of eerie Pennsylvania, they described an hour's long standoff, a gunman inside a house, police outside waiting.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_13]: That is not what happened.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_13]: By the time officers reached Perry Street on Friday, October 9th, the shooting was over.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_13]: 9 people were dead, and the first sign of it was two women lying on the ground outside the front door.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_13]: If you want more coverage of trending tragedies, make sure you subscribe and turn on notifications.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_13]: Inside police found six victims, two were children, a five-year-old boy and a little girl who was 22 months old.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_13]: They were on the first floor.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_13]: upstairs in the rooms and around the stairwell were four adults, a 24-year-old woman, a 44-year-old woman, a 19-year-old man, and a 21-year-old man, the 24-year-old was pregnant.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_13]: The man police believe killed them was on the second floor as well.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_13]: He was 45 years old.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_13]: Police say the people inside lived there.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_13]: The two women outside did not.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_13]: They also say seven of the eight victims were related to him.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_13]: They haven't explained how everyone in that house was connected.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_13]: And as of Saturday evening, no names had been released.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_13]: Officials were still reaching family members.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_13]: Investigators have been rebuilding the timeline from surveillance video, audio recordings, witness accounts, and evidence from the home.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_13]: Their working theory is that the killing started inside.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_13]: One recording picked up faint muffled sounds.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_13]: Investigators believe those were gunshots coming from within the house.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_10]: This is Jason.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_10]: See you up here.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_10]: Hi.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_10]: Here are some people.
- 5:45[UNKNOWN]: Hi.
- 5:47[UNKNOWN]: What's up?
- 5:48[UNKNOWN]: What's up?
- 5:49[SPEAKER_10]: What's up?
- 6:15[SPEAKER_09]: So I'm not going to give up what we're talking about, yeah, I want you to just keep listening and you are here.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_13]: On video, two women arrive.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_13]: They are 51 and 37.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_13]: They look distressed.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_13]: They pound on the door.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_13]: They try to get the attention of people nearby.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_13]: Local reporting describes the older woman as a family friend and the younger as a sister-in-law of one of the people who died.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_13]: Police don't yet know what those women knew or what sent them to that door at that moment.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_13]: The front door opens.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_13]: A man steps outside and calls to them.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_13]: According to police, they walk toward him.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_13]: He shoots them both, then he goes back inside.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_13]: A little before 5pm, shot spotter, the city's gunshot detection system, flagged two shots on Perry Street.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_13]: Patrol officers arrived about three minutes later.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_13]: They found both women dead in front of the house.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_13]: what they didn't know was what was happening inside.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_13]: They didn't know if the gunman was still alive.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_13]: They didn't know if he was a threat.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_13]: They didn't know if anyone inside needed rescue.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_13]: Police tried to reach someone in the house, no one answered.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_13]: While they assessed the scene and worked on a search warrant, they sent drones to look at the residents.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_13]: Then SWAT officers breach several doors and sent in a robot to check the interior before anyone walked in.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_13]: On the first floor, they found the two children.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_13]: Upstairs and around the stairwell, they found four adults.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_09]: Beautiful kids.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_13]: And on the second floor, they found the suspect.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_13]: He had a gunshot wound that appeared to be self-inflicted, a handgun was recovered from his body.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_06]: Well, tonight, that community in area is now grappling with the loss of nine lives.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_06]: Our crew was there today as investigators returned to the home, piecing together exactly what happened, Katie Kays Jessica Riley joins us with words from family and neighbors.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_07]: you're looking at the house right here.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_07]: That was once full of life.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_07]: That police say a man open fire killing nine people, including children from family members to community members and police.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_07]: They only describe this scene as one word horrific.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_07]: You can hear the moment.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_07]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_07]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_07]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_07]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_07]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_07]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_07]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_07]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_07]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have fun.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have fun.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: and imagine of them.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_07]: Those are the neighbors of 720 to Perry Street recalling the evening of horrors.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_07]: It's senseless.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_14]: It really is for her own father to do that to her and them kids.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_07]: Tonight, family members are speaking out trying to make sense of the violence that has left an entire family shattered.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_07]: Photos of Angelina Stone, who was just four days away from giving birth, she and her unborn baby, plus two children, brothers and a friend are among those killed.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_14]: Her two babies were on this spectrum.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_14]: innocent children couldn't have told on that man if they wanted to, and he still killed them.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: A crime like that, like what do you say?
- 9:38[SPEAKER_14]: You know, a person kills two innocent children, a pregnant woman, and, you know, the people coming to try and help her.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_07]: Greath, sadness, and so many questions of how so many lives were taken.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_09]: I'm so, I'm gonna tell you, I'm a man.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_09]: You know, people have died for less.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_09]: parking spots at a mall people have been found in this document at the die over a parking spot at a mall.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_09]: Let that sink in at a mall people died over parking spots.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_08]: Broken man and I left everything created to stay away from that lifestyle and I come back and I lose my daughter
- 10:26[SPEAKER_08]: move my baby mom, move my moves who I was fighting to stay a lot for.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_14]: It's mind blowing to me and to understand that you know what was happening in that house while we were all just standing outside in the feeling of helplessness and knowing that, you know, we couldn't do anything.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_14]: She was right there.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_07]: Reporting in Erie, Erie County, Jessica Riley, Katie K to Venus.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_13]: All of them were already dead.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_13]: Meanwhile outside, the story was moving faster than the facts.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_13]: Early reports said more shots had been fired after police arrived, and that officers had exchanged fire with the suspect.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_13]: The next day, the city and the police department corrected that.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_13]: No shots were fired after officers got there.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_13]: The bangs that neighbors heard during the response were flash bangs and other tactical devices used by SWAT.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_13]: Police also said this was not a long stand-off.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_13]: There was no delay that cost anyone their life.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_13]: The killings had happened before the first patrol car arrived.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_13]: Officers were trying to find out if the danger was still inside.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_13]: Police Chief Rick Laura was asked why officers waited before going in.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_13]: He said they heard no cries for help and saw no movement.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_09]: Now, that's something that's suspect.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_09]: Let's be real.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_09]: If you inside of a house, how are you going to hear a cries for help?
- 11:57[SPEAKER_09]: If you inside of the house on the hostage and your hostage, you're not going to let you say nothing.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_09]: So why would you say that?
- 12:05[SPEAKER_09]: Why would you implement that of all things?
- 12:07[SPEAKER_09]: No cries for help.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_09]: If it's a hostage situation, would you hear somebody crying for help?
- 12:14[SPEAKER_09]: I'm just saying, that don't make sense at all.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_13]: If they had, he said, they would have gone in immediately.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_13]: The gun was a 40 caliber handgun.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_13]: The chief said it was registered to the suspect, but a registered weapon doesn't explain why.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_13]: As of October 10th, police had not established a motive.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_13]: The chief raised the possibility that mental health played a role.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_13]: He was clear that this was an early comment.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_13]: No diagnosis has been made public and no one has shown a link between any condition and the shootings.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_09]: So, that comes my first question for the listeners and for everyone around the world.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_09]: Could this have been prevented if early signs of mental health, maybe seeing someone about the stress condition he was under, could avoid it this situation from happening.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_09]: For a man to kill his own kids is some tough stuff.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_09]: that that's that's some deep depression for sure.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_09]: If I'd so I don't know if we're going to just count that out as not being a problem, but it had to be.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_09]: Think about it.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_02]: With our community, this is one of the most difficult and heartbreaking scenes our officers and investigators have ever encountered.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_05]: Breaking news out of area this morning, nine people, including two children reported dead after a mass shooting and hours long stand up in the area.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_05]: Our CBS affiliate reports, police were called to Perry Street around five last night.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_05]: After witnesses saw a man firing a gun before entering a home.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_05]: Our Jessica Riley joins us live now over in the area, and just we're expecting a briefing from police.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_05]: But where does the investigation stand this morning?
- 14:16[SPEAKER_07]: Hey, good morning.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_07]: My, well, what I can tell you right now is it's really just a saw for a morning here on the east side in eerie.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_07]: And right now, there are still officers here at the scene.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_07]: And I kind of want to step out of the way just so you can get a look at what we're seeing here this morning.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_07]: You can see the home still taped off by police tape here this morning.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_07]: We have evidence markers on the ground.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_07]: You can see the home several officers still here around in the neighborhood taking photos, talking to neighbors as they're trying to really
- 14:46[SPEAKER_07]: Now, I do want to tell you here this morning that we do not have official confirmation on a number of just how many people were killed here, but police say they were called to the 700 block of Perry Street around five yesterday evening after witnesses reported seeing a man firing a gun.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_07]: Investigators say two women were dead found found dead on the street with more victims found inside of the home.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_07]: Please also found the suspect dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_07]: Now that shooting led to an hour's long standoff and what police describe as a scene and a tragedy difficult to put into words.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure that the city of Erie has ever seen the loss of life in the devastation that we just witnessed.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: So we're obviously making sure that our officers are taking care of and receive counseling for what they just observe.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_07]: the identities of the suspect in those victims have not been released and as well as information on really what exactly happened here yesterday evening but what we do know it's still very much an active investigation.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_07]: So we are awaiting information.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_07]: We are told that police are going to be having a press conference here sometime.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_07]: later this morning to give us more information.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_07]: So once we get that information, we will bring that to you.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_07]: We also do plan on bringing a live stream on KDK.com as well as on our YouTube page with all of that information as soon as that happens.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_07]: So of course, stay with us for new developments, those breaking developments on air and online.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_07]: Once we have that, we will bring it straight to you.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_07]: Reporting live in Erupeic, Jessica Riley, back to you Megan.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_13]: Report also says the suspect had earlier contact with law enforcement.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_13]: Oh, he doesn't said what that contact was.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_13]: Investigators are interviewing relatives.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_13]: They are also going through the cell phones of the two women found outside, hoping to learn what brought them to that door.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_13]: Then came the coroner's findings.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_13]: Eri County coroner Lyle Cook ruled the deaths of the six adults and two children homicides.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_13]: He also ruled the death of the pregnant woman's unborn child, a homicide.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_13]: The suspect's death was ruled a suicide.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_13]: That affects how the numbers are counted.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_13]: The nine deaths most widely reported are the eight people who were shot and the suspect.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_13]: The unborn child is not part of that count.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_13]: Officials also described the pregnancy differently.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_13]: The chief said the woman was eight months along.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_13]: The coroner called her full-term.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_13]: The reporting didn't settle that.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_13]: The coroner said all but one of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_13]: One was pronounced after being taken to a hospital.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_13]: That person hasn't been identified.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_13]: Police still say everyone was dead before officers arrived and the reporting doesn't explain how those two facts fit together.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_13]: Cook also said there will be no autopsies.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_13]: No reason was given.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_13]: Because the suspect is dead, there will be no arrest and no trial.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_13]: The questions that are left will have to be answered by the investigation.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_13]: Police have not said what brought the two women to that door.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_13]: They have not said what those women knew, or what they saw before they got there.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_13]: They have not released the order in which the people inside were shot.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_13]: They have not explained how everyone in the house was related.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_13]: Beyond saying that seven of the eight victims were family to the suspect.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_13]: There is no confirmed motive.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_13]: There are no names yet, and officials have not explained the hospital pronouncement, the pregnancy discrepancy, or why there will be no autopsies.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_13]: Some of that may come out in the coming days.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_13]: Some may never be made public.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_13]: Chief Laura has been in policing for more than 28 years.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_13]: He called this one of the most devastating scenes he has ever seen.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_02]: what our officers encountered when they arrived and what we have learned through our investigations so far.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: On October 9th, 2026 at approximately 453 p.m. our area police department patrol division responded to a shot spot or alert indicating two gun shots in the 700 block of Perry Street.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: Arriving within minutes of the alert, our officers located two deceased females outside the residents.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: since that initial response.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_08]: And I left every created to stay away from that lifestyle.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_08]: And I come back and I lose my daughter.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_08]: Moves my maybe more, lose my news.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_08]: I was fighting to stay a lot more.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_02]: Those two women, arriving at the residence, appearing distressed, seeking assistance from neighbors and pounding on the door.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_02]: The audio video also appears to catch her muffled gunfire.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_02]: from inside the residents before the suspect emerged and fatally shot both women.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_02]: Witnesses corroborate this sequence of events and reported hearing no additional gunshots after the suspect returned inside.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_02]: When officers arrived, they had limited information about the circumstances inside the residents.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_02]: They did not know whether the suspect remained inside, had fled the scene or posed an ongoing threat.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_02]: They also had to consider whether anyone inside might be in danger or being held hostage, including the possibility that there were children present.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_02]: After officers continue assessing the situation together in the information while seeking a search warrant.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_02]: During that time officers were unable to establish any contact with anyone inside the residence, no movement, no sounds were detected from within the home.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_02]: Drone's were deployed to assess conditions inside, but no individuals were observed.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_02]: Erick police slot officers then breached multiple doors and deployed a robot to further assess the interior of the residents.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_02]: After locating victims inside, officers immediately entered the home.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_02]: Based on the evidence gathered to this day, investigators have determined that the victims inside the residents were killed in the suspect died from assault and inflicted gunshot wound before officers arrived.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_02]: I also want to clarify reports of gunfire during the police response.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_02]: No gunshots were fired after officers arrived on scene.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_02]: Sounds that may have been mistaken for gunfire came from flashbang devices in chemical munitions, used by slot officers during the operation.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_09]: So my question to you guys is should they have bust down the door to try to save anybody else?
- 21:24[SPEAKER_09]: Should PD, Pennsylvania airy PD put their life on the line when they rolled up and seeing dead victims outside on the floor on the ground, because two victims outside.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_09]: So you saw the victims outside, do you go inside, do you breach, what was you had done?
- 21:56[SPEAKER_09]: up new.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_09]: I tell you what, when you look at stuff like this, you don't know when you first come up, what to do?
- 22:08[SPEAKER_09]: I didn't strategy.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_09]: And being that they never experienced this before, they don't have experience in this.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_09]: Remember, everything you do is after someone showed you what to do.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_09]: Excuse me, when it comes to law enforcement, mercy management, fire department, every step you move is somebody did it prior to you to show you how to do it.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_09]: And if you don't have the experience in this or ever experience something like this, as an officer, when you come on to seeing you to our totally in shock.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_09]: that's the number one thing a lot of people don't realize what happened to most of these officers.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_09]: They are in shock.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_09]: They can't believe what's going on.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_09]: Nevertheless, if this is going on, is there anybody else that's a victim inside?
- 23:08[SPEAKER_09]: They haven't even passed that thought yet when they drive up and see the bodies outside, they're in shock.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_09]: This doesn't happen in their neck of the woods.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_09]: So now the realization of you got two dead bodies out front.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_09]: The bunch of commotion, things going on, people did come to them.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_09]: No one's saying that neighbors didn't come to them and tell them, neighbors did.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_09]: Trust me, they did it.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_09]: The first thing you do when somebody gets shot, they call the police.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_09]: How do you think they arrived there?
- 23:42[SPEAKER_09]: they said enough, and they also said to them that the murderer, the suspect, contacted PD earlier, before this altercation.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_09]: Let's get to evidence.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: Eight victims in the suspected shooter, eight of these deceased were family members.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: One of those victims was eight months pregnant.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_02]: The two women outside the residence were a 51 year old female and a 37 year old female.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_02]: Two young children were found on the first floor.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_02]: A five year old boy and a one year 10 month old girl.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_02]: Four additional victims were found in a second floor in the stairwell.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_02]: The 24 year old female, a 44 year old female,
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: a 19-year-old male and a 21-year-old male.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_02]: The 45-year-old suspected shooter was found deceased on the second floor from a parent, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_02]: A fire on was recovered on his person.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_02]: As I said last night, some scenes some scenes stay with you long after you leave them.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_02]: This is one of those tragic scenes.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_09]: So after hearing that when they arrived on the scene, the bodies are outside, that's not enough probable cause to brush down the door and see what's going on inside this building after the people called you.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_09]: Now nevertheless, I do believe all the people were already dead.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_09]: But it's not, could you have saved someone?
- 25:44[SPEAKER_09]: If you just went through the door, maybe could have been cops dead?
- 25:52[SPEAKER_09]: Maybe?
- 25:53[SPEAKER_09]: Is that what the cops feared?
- 25:56[SPEAKER_09]: Maybe?
- 25:56[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know, guys.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: Back to the victims and the families, I will not discuss the details of what our officers encountered inside that home.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_02]: But I want our community to understand the gravity of what happened in the profound impact this tragedy has had on those involved and on our community as a whole.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_02]: I also want to acknowledge the officers and first responders who responded this scene.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_02]: They faced extraordinarily difficult situation with limited information and significant uncertainty about what was happening inside that home.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_09]: They had to make sure that's clear that they didn't know how many shooters there was.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_09]: They didn't know anything allegedly, but they got a call to come there for sure.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_09]: Upon arrival, two bodies dead outside on the ground.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_09]: They went and got a warrant to proceed inside.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_02]: I am grateful for their work, and we are making sure they have access to the support they need in the aftermath of this tragedy.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_02]: Our investigation remains active, where we will continue to share, confirmed information as it becomes available, while respecting the families in the integrity of the investigation.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_02]: If that I'll turn it over to Mr. Attorney Elizabeth hers.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_12]: Good afternoon.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_12]: On behalf of the District Attorney's Office, I want to extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of every victim.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_12]: We are keeping the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this tragedy and our thoughts and our prayers.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_12]: I also want to recognize a law enforcement officer's emergency personnel and first responders who responded to this horrific incident.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_12]: These individuals, as Chief Laura said, were confronted with devastating scene and had to carry out a difficult and emotionally demanding responsibility that required professionalism, courage, and compassion under extraordinarily difficult circumstances.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_12]: We're thankful for their service and mindful of the toll that this work takes on them and their families.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_12]: As the investigation continues, I want to make an important appeal to our community.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_12]: Please do not allow rumors, speculation, or unverified information to add to the pain that these families are already experiencing.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_12]: We understand that people will have questions.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_12]: We understand that in the aftermath of a tragedy like this, there is a desire to make sense of what happened and to find those answers.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_12]: But sharing unconfirmed reports, repeating rumors, and drawing conclusions before the facts are established, helps no one, it does not help the victims, it does not support the families, and it does not advance the investigation.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_12]: It only causes additional pain to people already
- 29:37[SPEAKER_12]: creates unnecessary fear and a vow to community that needs one another.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_12]: Please remember that behind every social media poster is a real person that is going through tremendous pain and loss.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_12]: Families are grieving and the community members are struggling.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_12]: our responsibility right now is to establish the facts and conduct a thorough and responsible investigation and provide accurate information as it becomes appropriate to do so.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_12]: We're not going to speculate and we're not going to compromise the integrity of this investigation by rushing to conclusions and we ask for the public's patience as investigators continue their work.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_12]: Please respect the work of those who are investigating this tragedy.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_12]: give the families their space to grieve, as the victims and their families must remain at the center of our thoughts and prayers and actions, and they deserve the grace and understanding needed in the face of such profound loss.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_12]: I'll turn it over to Mayor Dettland.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_12]: Thank you.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_04]: Real generic and not serious.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you all again for being here this afternoon.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_04]: So in my comments, I want to start by speaking directly to the families who lost loved ones last night.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_04]: I am so deeply sorry.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_04]: What happened to you was horrific and there is nothing that any of us can say today that will make this any easier.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_04]: But you do need to know that our entire community is with you.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_04]: We're grieving with you and we are here to support you.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_04]: many people across our community are hurting today.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_04]: The neighbors who witnessed what happened, the families and friends of those who were killed, the officers and first responders who answered these calls and others, struggling to make sense of something so terrible.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_04]: The impact of this tragedy reaches far beyond what we can see today.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_04]: I need to tell you that I know this neighborhood.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_04]: I love this neighborhood.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_04]: I grew up on Eerie's East Side, and I've spent years working alongside the people and organizations that call it home.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_04]: I also know the strengths of this community, and I know how deeply people here care for one another.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_04]: There are moments in public service that no one can fully prepare you for, and this is one of them.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_04]: But I've also seen how people step forward in the most difficult moments, and I want to take a moment to recognize that.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_04]: First, as the DA and the Chief said, I need to thank the officers of the Area Police Department and all of our first responders.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_04]: They arrived at a horrific scene, faced unimaginable circumstances and carried out their duties with courage and professionalism.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_04]: They too are members of this community and they too will carry the weight of what happened last night.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_04]: We are deeply grateful for their service and their commitment to keeping our community safe.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_04]: And I will say a special thanks to Chief Laura and our command staff who have basically worked for the past 24 hours tirelessly on this investigation on the actions and on the reporting that needed to come.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_04]: We are so grateful to all of them.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_04]: I also want to thank the many elected officials who reached out today to extend their support, including Governor Josh Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, Senator Dave McCormick, Pennsylvania Speaker of the House, Joanna McClitten, Eary County Executive Christina Vogel, and almost every mayor across Pennsylvania.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_04]: We're so grateful to them for reaching out and letting us know that they're with us in this moment.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_04]: And I want to recognize the many community partners who have already stepped forward to help.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_04]: We are grateful for their willingness to
- 33:10[SPEAKER_04]: As a city, we know that our responsibility doesn't end with the emergency response or with the investigation.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_04]: We are now working with UPMC Crisis Services, Allegheny Health Network Behavioral Health and other community partners to connect families and others impacted with trauma support, practical assistance, and other resources.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_04]: We're also working with our schools to ensure that students have the support that they need when they return.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_04]: for anyone who needs support, please no crisis services is available 24 hours a day at 814, 4156, 2014, and Allegheny Health Network Behavioral Health also available at 814, 866, 8484.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_04]: Those numbers will be posted on our website in social media pages.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_04]: The trauma of an event like this doesn't end when the scene is cleared or the headlines fade, grief affects people differently, and the need for support may emerge in the days and weeks and months ahead.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_04]: We will continue with listening to what families and neighbors need and working to make those resources available to them.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_04]: I know many people and many people have rejected me directly to ask what they can do to help.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_04]: We can start by looking out for our neighbors, respecting the privacy of grieving families, sharing accurate information, and extending care and patience and grace to everyone affected.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_04]: We cannot undo what happened last night.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_04]: And we cannot take away the grief that these families are carrying, but we can make sure that they don't have to carry it alone.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_04]: to the families, to our neighbors, to our friends, on the east side, and to everyone who was hurting today, we are here for you.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_04]: Not just today, but in the difficult days and weeks ahead, we'll continue as a community to show up, to listen, and to care for one another.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_04]: We're grateful for all the support we received today.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_04]: We thank you all for being here and the chief and the DA and I will now take questions.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_15]: What do we know about the vote of right now?
- 35:03[SPEAKER_15]: What do we know about the connection between the shooter and the victims?
- 35:06[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to ask the chief, sir.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_02]: They did those victims were related to each other.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's too soon to talk about motive, but obviously everyone is family, and that's their one family friend.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that as the investigation progresses, and we're able to look at what those two women
- 35:33[SPEAKER_02]: knew when they arrived at the scene.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_02]: We have to look at their cell phones.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_02]: They knew something was going on at that house.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_02]: We have to figure out what that is, and I think they were going to get that through looking at the cell phones, speaking with family members, speaking with the witnesses again.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think that mental health.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_09]: Everybody that could have told you what was going on is dead.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_09]: close to the family members could have showed you or told you some of the stress that the man might have been going through.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_09]: Maybe the 54-year-old woman that came by the 51-year-old she died.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_09]: He killed her and the other one that came to aid killed her too.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_09]: Everyone that might have could have said something was no longer
- 36:31[SPEAKER_09]: Now, look at his history, medical history, if he has any document in his degree of mental health, yeah, you could push it on that, but you don't know.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_09]: They didn't do a wellness check after a man called and say whatever he said, that might have could have helped.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_09]: But these things didn't come into factor to after everyone's in the coffin.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_09]: And now we're doing the what if shit show.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_02]: This at play here, um, but I think it's too soon to really go into a mode of at this time.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_09]: Traveling with your gun is a, yeah, you need to travel with your gun.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_03]: He said it wrong.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_03]: Two bodies lying outside of the house.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_02]: As far as we know now, what the investigation has shown is that it appears that the individuals inside the residence were already deceased.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_02]: Whether there was shots fired after he returned in back to the home or was all before, we do have audio and video that catches muffled gun shots.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_02]: just prior to the two females being shot outside.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_02]: So it appears that he was, he was, he was shot at a stop at a 27th of a minute.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_02]: It was a few seconds.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_02]: Two more seconds.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's, there's some, there's some, matcher between, we believe that the shooter comes out and calls towards the two females.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_02]: They run towards and then he, then he shoots them.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_03]: Over month, you say like, I went in front of the
- 38:48[SPEAKER_02]: They hate a 40 caliber handgun.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_02]: Do you know that's right, just third to him?
- 38:53[SPEAKER_02]: The fire arm is registered to the suspect.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_03]: The moving with a removal possession of the fire arm is right, you know.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_02]: As far as I know, I don't necessarily know it's criminal history right off the bat, but yeah, as far as I know.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_10]: Do you know the victim's number inside the house lived there?
- 39:10[SPEAKER_02]: We believe so.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's a family.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, eight of the, eight of the nine were related to each other, including the shooter.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_02]: One of the, one of the two females that was, was killed outside the residence was a family friend, the other female was a sister-in-law.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_02]: to one of the victims.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_02]: Those are the two individuals that came there pounding on the door.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_02]: There was the list of known that something was going on.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't contact us though, so we don't know what that is yet.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_02]: Didn't at least find anyone alive inside the house.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_07]: Would you consider this a domestic situation?
- 39:50[SPEAKER_07]: that's certainly looking that way with both of the they could be going into each other and also so if you could clarify kind of the warrant because i know i've seen a lot of chatter about this people are kind of upset why did we not just bust into the house if we saw people outside you were on a live right
- 40:08[SPEAKER_09]: Thank you right there.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_09]: Right there right there finally and you should see his face when they said that he don't got defensive Unfolded.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_09]: I straight.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_09]: I'm glad I'm recording this.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_07]: I think a lot of people are understanding that kind of Yes, sir, y'all should have went in there.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's your choice.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_02]: I had nothing to do with the operation Our our officers were ready to enter that residence at a moment's notice The question wasn't what y'all have ready for?
- 40:37[SPEAKER_02]: The question was, why didn't you go in?
- 40:41[SPEAKER_02]: When we arrived on scene, we did not hear a gunshot.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_02]: They don't matter.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_09]: You saw a body's outside.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_02]: You're not hearing a cry for help.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_02]: We did not see movement in the side.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_02]: Had any of those?
- 40:56[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_02]: He ruled.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_02]: We would have made entry immediately.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_02]: Those officers were met with an eerie silence when they arrived there.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_02]: No audible sounds coming from inside the residents, no gunshots, no screams, had we seen anyone attempting to get out of the residents or flag us down, we would have made entry.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_02]: They already told you they called you there.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_02]: The two bodies on the floor are just signs.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_02]: Whether or not we're going to make entry or not.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_02]: That is secondary tour investigation because obviously it's a homicide investigation at this point.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_11]: I'm past between that shots fire a deal.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_09]: A lot of time pass a few minutes.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_09]: You don't know he's guessing that you see a face
- 41:48[SPEAKER_09]: and it went to roll by it takes 10 minutes 15 minutes for a robot to come in.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_09]: It takes a lot of time.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_02]: He's lying now guys.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_02]: So within minutes.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_02]: He's covering stuff up.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing coming from the house.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_02]: Dors were locked when those were shaded.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_02]: No cries of help from inside.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_02]: Nope.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, you're not going to get cries from help when the man just got cold there for execution style.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_09]: You come there as a homicide, bodies are outside in front of the house.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_09]: You're not even knocking the door, right?
- 42:24[SPEAKER_09]: Oh my god, this is what it comes to.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_09]: didn't even knock on the door didn't even say is everything all right don't don't hello hello hi this is uh... you know police department we got bodies outside dead anybody here what's going on here if you don't come to the door i'm a knocked down the door you don't have enough probable cause when you see dead bodies in front of the house dead i don't know
- 42:55[SPEAKER_09]: So long for you to go in the house.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_09]: You gotta hear noises according to him.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_09]: You gotta see some movement.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_09]: Guys, I had no conclusion to this because today it's still out.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_09]: All I know, nine people are dead.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_09]: Father killed them all.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_09]: His own family members executed in the house.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_09]: We have nothing.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_09]: I'm your host, your main equipment.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_09]: This is humanity on Plough.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_09]: Stay focused man.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_09]: Peace.
