- 2:00Speaker 3: It's a day to celebrate us and our good friend,
- 2:04Speaker 3: the head of the West Virginia Broadcasters Association, Leslie Rubin
- 2:07Speaker 3: is here doing a little recording for social media purposes.
- 2:10Speaker 3: I'll drag her on the air with me coming up
- 2:12Speaker 3: a little bit later on Metro News Meteorologist Brian Hughes. So,
- 2:15Speaker 3: it has been kind of quiet so far, raining off
- 2:17Speaker 3: and on here in the Valley High It is going
- 2:19Speaker 3: to be of a low eighties today. The rain should
- 2:20Speaker 3: begin to taper off overnight tonight with the low in
- 2:22Speaker 3: the upper sixties. Tomorrow, some sun but also some showers
- 2:25Speaker 3: and storms around high in the low eighties and some
- 2:27Speaker 3: showers possible Saturday, highs and below to mid eighties. Looking
- 2:30Speaker 3: good though on Sunday pleasant as Brian calls attempts around
- 2:34Speaker 3: eighty with Sunday end in a Monday. Make sure to
- 2:37Speaker 3: follow Metro News Meteorologist Brian Hughes on air, on social
- 2:39Speaker 3: media and by downloading the Metro News television app as well.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Big event happening Saturday at laidley Field and Charleston called
- 2:46Speaker 3: the Capital City Bash, and it's being advertised as a
- 2:49Speaker 3: night of faith, community and hope. Here to talk about
- 2:52Speaker 3: it is and there from the Victory Church give us
- 2:54Speaker 3: your name, sir, Pastor Stieve Sayer and Pastor Jefferson all right,
- 2:58Speaker 3: took two of you to come in here day. Huh, yeah,
- 3:01Speaker 3: that's all right. Tell us either one of you just
- 3:02Speaker 3: tell us about this event.
- 3:04Speaker 5: All right, Well, this is just an opportunity to get
- 3:06Speaker 5: hopefully a bunch of people together and share some hope.
- 3:11Speaker 5: You know, people need encouragement nowadays, and we intend to
- 3:14Speaker 5: bring some of that. And we're gonna be giving away
- 3:18Speaker 5: for the first one thousand and the tenants. We're gonna
- 3:20Speaker 5: give away Chick fil A sandwiches for free. We're gonna
- 3:22Speaker 5: have gas cards available for giveaway. We're gonna have uh,
- 3:26Speaker 5: we're actually gonna be giving away some flash screens, some iPads,
- 3:29Speaker 5: and we're gonna be having bouncies, cotton candy face paying
- 3:32Speaker 5: the whole family. It's gonna be just a big fun event,
- 3:35Speaker 5: some live music and then a message of hope and.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Gates are gonna open up at six and the first
- 3:40Speaker 3: giveaways start at seven. While the giveaways, I mean, what's
- 3:43Speaker 3: what's the reason behind that?
- 3:44Speaker 5: Just to share the practical love of God with the community,
- 3:47Speaker 5: just to let them know, like, hey, we're here to
- 3:50Speaker 5: be a blessing. You know, We're not trying to get
- 3:51Speaker 5: anything from anybody. And uh, you know, just just to
- 3:56Speaker 5: just to show some love.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Where did the idea come from? Whose idea wasn't and
- 4:00Speaker 3: how did you come up with them?
- 4:02Speaker 5: I don't know, that's an interesting question. Uh, Jeff, why
- 4:05Speaker 5: don't you pop in here for a second and tell us,
- 4:08Speaker 5: Because he was the lady Field concept. He kind of
- 4:12Speaker 5: was the brain hit.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Jeff talking about that.
- 4:15Speaker 6: Well, you know, when faith you the only thing people
- 4:20Speaker 6: can tell you is no right. So if you have
- 4:24Speaker 6: Lord gives you an idea, you just you go with it.
- 4:27Speaker 6: And I was praying and the Lord gave me the
- 4:30Speaker 6: idea to to to go and and just find out
- 4:34Speaker 6: how much would it cost? How much you know what,
- 4:37Speaker 6: what would it be like to do this? And this
- 4:40Speaker 6: is the first crusade of its kind for our church.
- 4:44Speaker 6: And uh, we just I came, I reached out to
- 4:47Speaker 6: ladley Field, got the information and related back to Pastor Steve,
- 4:52Speaker 6: and and we made it happen. Lord made it happen.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Well, that's that's awesome. I mean, it's a good idea
- 4:59Speaker 3: and fear I mean because easy to get an idea,
- 5:01Speaker 3: as you guys know, well we'll do this, and then
- 5:03Speaker 3: it comes down to little things like oh well we
- 5:06Speaker 3: got to have this get we got to get this
- 5:08Speaker 3: contract taken care of, and we got to have a
- 5:09Speaker 3: sponsor to take care of this. There's a lot more
- 5:11Speaker 3: that goes into it than just having an event.
- 5:13Speaker 5: Right yeah, right, yeah, And then you know, of course
- 5:16Speaker 5: the risk you take is anybody going to show up,
- 5:17Speaker 5: But we're believing that a bunch of people are going
- 5:19Speaker 5: to show up, and that's why we're so thankful to
- 5:21Speaker 5: be on here. Invite all your listeners, everybody out there,
- 5:23Speaker 5: please show up six o'clock Latelyfield this Saturday. It's going
- 5:27Speaker 5: to be a great time.
- 5:28Speaker 3: And as I said, you know, the weather starting to
- 5:30Speaker 3: look for me. I know you've probably been watching. I
- 5:32Speaker 3: saw you after talking to Brian Hughes a little bit earlier.
- 5:34Speaker 3: So it looks like that by the time Saturday, there's
- 5:37Speaker 3: only a slight chance of rain on Saturday, but so
- 5:39Speaker 3: it shouldn't be a rain out and we've had enough
- 5:41Speaker 3: of that here in Charleston. Yes, so we don't need
- 5:43Speaker 3: any of that. Talk about the how you were able
- 5:46Speaker 3: to secure all these things. I mean, y'all obviously had
- 5:48Speaker 3: to have a buy in from the community and from
- 5:50Speaker 3: the corporate you know, the corporate folks to be able
- 5:52Speaker 3: to pull this off.
- 5:53Speaker 5: Yeah, well really it was it was Jeff that talked
- 5:56Speaker 5: to the managers at Laidley Field and just let them
- 6:00Speaker 5: know that we'd like to have it. There was a
- 6:03Speaker 5: particular date that came to me and I thought, well,
- 6:05Speaker 5: you know, if it's available to twenty second, let's go
- 6:07Speaker 5: for it. And it was. And uh so, yeah, I mean,
- 6:11Speaker 5: we haven't thankfully encountered anything but just positivity. I mean,
- 6:14Speaker 5: just everybody's been great to work with, helpful. As far
- 6:18Speaker 5: as the actual giveaways themselves, the generous great people from
- 6:24Speaker 5: Victory Church have have sponsored that.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Now, where is your church?
- 6:26Speaker 5: Ripley? Okay, yep, Ripley, West Virginia.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Okay, so but okay, I wasn't aware that it was
- 6:32Speaker 3: that far away. But I mean you guys were bringing
- 6:34Speaker 3: it here because I mean lately feels a pretty big facility,
- 6:36Speaker 3: So I know, the kind of crowd that you're expecting.
- 6:39Speaker 3: I don't know that you could probably do this at
- 6:41Speaker 3: Ripley necessarily.
- 6:42Speaker 5: Yeah, probably not, you know, And we've done a ton
- 6:45Speaker 5: of things and always do things that you know at
- 6:47Speaker 5: our church in Ripley, but we'd never really stretched out
- 6:50Speaker 5: to do, you know, try to do something big in Charleston,
- 6:54Speaker 5: and so we thought, you know what, this is our state.
- 6:56Speaker 5: We want to like, we want to be a blessing.
- 7:01Speaker 5: I mean, I have a heart for the state of
- 7:03Speaker 5: West Virginia. I love West Virginia. We all do. And
- 7:05Speaker 5: we're from here in Charleston, and so if we can
- 7:09Speaker 5: just bring some hope, some encouragement, some help to this area,
- 7:14Speaker 5: then man, that's what we want to do.
- 7:15Speaker 3: It sounds like it's going to be a very interesting
- 7:17Speaker 3: thing because it's you know, it's gonna be obviously the
- 7:21Speaker 3: church aspect of it, but there's also a lot of fun.
- 7:23Speaker 3: And not saying the church can't be fun, don't get
- 7:25Speaker 3: me wrong, but I'm just saying there there's gonna be
- 7:27Speaker 3: a lot of fun involved in this as well, with
- 7:29Speaker 3: inflatables and everything else you got going.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean that's the whole thing we want to
- 7:33Speaker 5: I mean, as far as the faith aspect, I mean, yes,
- 7:38Speaker 5: I mean, I believe there's hope in Jesus Christ. I
- 7:40Speaker 5: believe there's eternal life in Christ, and we're going to
- 7:43Speaker 5: share that. But in a non like we don't beat
- 7:46Speaker 5: people down. God came to lift us up, and so
- 7:48Speaker 5: it's gonna be great. For everybody. But there is going
- 7:50Speaker 5: to be a lot of fun and and you know,
- 7:55Speaker 5: we'll also have a portable baptism. Somebody joked online, are
- 7:58Speaker 5: you going to be baptizing in the chem cool wherever
- 8:00Speaker 5: it's like where I don't know where that came from.
- 8:02Speaker 5: But no, we're gonna have fresh, clean water available if
- 8:05Speaker 5: somebody wants to get baptized, and uh, and we'll be
- 8:09Speaker 5: offering prayer for people too.
- 8:12Speaker 3: And you got live music too, live.
- 8:13Speaker 5: Music, yeah, I mean, and it's it's gonna be just
- 8:16Speaker 5: a good time, no strings attached, completely free to the community,
- 8:18Speaker 5: free parking, free everything. Just come bring your family and
- 8:22Speaker 5: it'll be a great time for the kids and great
- 8:25Speaker 5: time for you.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Said. The first thousand people get a free Chick fil A.
- 8:28Speaker 5: Same, that's the plan.
- 8:30Speaker 3: That's a lot of Chick fil A.
- 8:31Speaker 5: Yes, it sure is. But they've been cooperative. They're going
- 8:33Speaker 5: to be bringing their truck there.
- 8:34Speaker 3: And yeah, so and now you know, school started in
- 8:39Speaker 3: Kanawah County from almost all kanaw County. Few the schools
- 8:42Speaker 3: you didn't get to start yesterday because of you know,
- 8:44Speaker 3: the flooding and whatnot, But school started yesterday in Knawh
- 8:47Speaker 3: County starts on Monday in Putnam County and just mentioned
- 8:50Speaker 3: those counties for example. So I mean this a great
- 8:55Speaker 3: event for the family to come out, I'm kind of
- 8:57Speaker 3: you know, and with their kids, with their friends and
- 9:00Speaker 3: so on and so forth.
- 9:01Speaker 5: Yes, yes, absolutely, And we've been hearing a ton of
- 9:03Speaker 5: people that are saying that exact thing. They're you know,
- 9:05Speaker 5: teams are coming out and students and everything. So it's
- 9:09Speaker 5: a it's a great time, especially you know, as you're
- 9:11Speaker 5: heading back into this one.
- 9:13Speaker 3: I would think too that a lot of the churches
- 9:15Speaker 3: you know in the area may want to bring their
- 9:17Speaker 3: youth groups and.
- 9:18Speaker 5: Things that would be that'd be awesome. I mean, everybody
- 9:20Speaker 5: is everybody is welcome. This isn't just like a victory
- 9:24Speaker 5: church thing that we're sponsoring. We're hosting it, but it's
- 9:27Speaker 5: a community event. Everybody's welcome, all churches are welcome, and
- 9:31Speaker 5: we'd love just the more the merrier.
- 9:33Speaker 3: It's called the Capital City Bashing Again. It's happening in
- 9:35Speaker 3: Ladleyfield and Charleston Saturday evening, doors open at six o'clock,

- 9:52Speaker 3: let you know ahead of time or just show up?
- 9:54Speaker 5: Just show up. I think we'll have plenty of space
- 9:56Speaker 5: for you.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Is there a place where people can learn more about
- 9:59Speaker 3: to get a Facebook page or something?
- 10:00Speaker 5: Yeah, they can look us up on Facebook. We've been

- 13:45Speaker 4: How you doing, man, I'm doing great, doing great, Glad
- 13:47Speaker 4: to be here, glad to help.
- 13:48Speaker 3: You know you've been involved in this in the past, right.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Oh, we've done it for a number of years. You
- 13:52Speaker 4: guys used to do. I think this is kind of
- 13:54Speaker 4: the substitute that used to be Saint Jude.
- 13:56Speaker 3: Which we always gave to that as well.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Kind of I like this a little bit better just
- 14:03Speaker 4: because it's got that local flavor.
- 14:04Speaker 5: So it's through WVU.
- 14:06Speaker 4: But yeah, we try to give every year and we're
- 14:09Speaker 4: given this year too, and just glad to help. It's
- 14:12Speaker 4: not given enough for a regime change up there or
- 14:14Speaker 4: build a new building, but you know, every little bit
- 14:17Speaker 4: helps and we like to contribute to the extent we can.
- 14:20Speaker 4: We try and contribute to everything you guys do here.
- 14:22Speaker 4: You know, kudos to the radio station for a Red
- 14:25Speaker 4: Cross Union mission. You have a lot of charities where
- 14:29Speaker 4: you guys devote your time and sometimes we don't know
- 14:32Speaker 4: it's happened until we get here for our show, but
- 14:34Speaker 4: we always try.
- 14:34Speaker 3: When you don't have a place to park on the
- 14:35Speaker 3: parking lot, that's right.
- 14:36Speaker 4: Bought turkeys, I think for Union mission and gave some
- 14:39Speaker 4: money to Red Cross, So we try and help every time,
- 14:41Speaker 4: and this one's.
- 14:44Speaker 3: You know, it's really important.
- 14:45Speaker 4: I think it's nice, you know, if you have kids,
- 14:48Speaker 4: and there's nothing worse than having your kids sick, especially
- 14:52Speaker 4: if it's something serious. We've been blessed in our family
- 14:54Speaker 4: and two kids are in their twenties and only had
- 14:56Speaker 4: normal kids stuff like broken arms and things like that,
- 14:59Speaker 4: but real serious illnesses or or injuries. But if you
- 15:04Speaker 4: if you have something serious with your kids, you know,
- 15:07Speaker 4: it's nice to have a facility in Morgantown where you
- 15:10Speaker 4: can kind of keep it local. You know, it's two
- 15:14Speaker 4: and a half hours from here, but you still as
- 15:16Speaker 4: a West Virginia and if you're living here, you feel
- 15:17Speaker 4: a little more comfortable, I think being in state versus
- 15:20Speaker 4: having to go somewhere across the country to get treatments.
- 15:22Speaker 4: So it's kind of a drop in the block of
- 15:24Speaker 4: what we give, but every little bit helps. If we
- 15:25Speaker 4: can get some other people to give, then you know
- 15:29Speaker 4: it's only going to improve things.
- 15:31Speaker 3: And again, you can text the word WVU Kids to
- 15:35Speaker 3: three four nine eight four. Can text the word WVU
- 15:37Speaker 3: Kids to three four nine eighty four. All as I said,
- 15:41Speaker 3: all of our station websites have information on there. I
- 15:43Speaker 3: was checking it out earlier today and there's also links
- 15:46Speaker 3: to donate via credit or debit card, PayPal, Apple pay
- 15:51Speaker 3: or Venmo. And again, we could not do this without
- 15:54Speaker 3: all of our corporate sponsors, and we have so many.
- 15:56Speaker 3: We'll be telling you about them with the next couple
- 15:58Speaker 3: of days. They'll pull this off. And it's to your
- 15:59Speaker 3: point time, I think it is. And look, we had
- 16:02Speaker 3: a great relationship with Saint Jude for a number of years.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Fantastic organization. But when you put that WVU name in it,
- 16:07Speaker 3: you know that it is staying in the Mountain State.
- 16:10Speaker 3: But it's not only helping kids in the Mountain State,
- 16:12Speaker 3: because there's few kids from all over that come in,
- 16:15Speaker 3: but such a large percentage of the kids that are
- 16:20Speaker 3: treated there are from the Kanaw Valley and our in
- 16:23Speaker 3: our listening foot print here at WVRC Media Charleston.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Yeah, to be able to stay in West Virginia, I
- 16:28Speaker 4: mean most people have been to Morgantown, they live around here,
- 16:32Speaker 4: and so it gives you some comfortability factor versus going
- 16:34Speaker 4: to you know, Cleveland's NATA or something like that, which
- 16:39Speaker 4: I you know, the Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Cleveland Clinic.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Those are top notchs facilities. I've been there.
- 16:43Speaker 4: But it's also you get out of your comfort level
- 16:46Speaker 4: when you got to go in big cities like that,
- 16:48Speaker 4: and so this gives you know, an opportunity to have
- 16:51Speaker 4: some comfort level going to to Morgantown. So we're yeah,
- 16:56Speaker 4: ga to Glad to help and we'll continue to do
- 16:58Speaker 4: it in the future.
- 17:00Speaker 3: All right. So I do this every time that I
- 17:02Speaker 3: have one of our sponsors on because you're good enough
- 17:04Speaker 3: to put up your money and you spend a lot
- 17:06Speaker 3: of money with us, and we have a great relationship
- 17:08Speaker 3: with you. But I want to talk about the Peyton
- 17:10Speaker 3: Law Firm for a moment. Whatever you talk about, to
- 17:12Speaker 3: give you a chance, Glad to play ourselves to sell
- 17:15Speaker 3: your law firm. So go ahead, tell me how long's
- 17:18Speaker 3: Peyon Law Firm been in business?
- 17:19Speaker 4: Oh gosh, Well, Dad started practicing in nineteen seventy four
- 17:22Speaker 4: and had an office in Nitro since the late seventies.
- 17:26Speaker 4: In ninety four he built the building we're in now,
- 17:31Speaker 4: which is a standalone building. And then of course I
- 17:33Speaker 4: got out of law school in No. One and started practicing.
- 17:36Speaker 4: So we've been doing it for a long time. You
- 17:39Speaker 4: combine our years of hen you're making me feel old. Well,
- 17:42Speaker 4: you started, you were a child lawyer. You started when
- 17:44Speaker 4: you were five. Well, probably because when your dad is
- 17:47Speaker 4: a is a is a trial lawyer, you tend to
- 17:50Speaker 4: be toted around. I was actually sitting in courtrooms watching,
- 17:55Speaker 4: you know, from probably the time I was ten years old,
- 17:57Speaker 4: because when you have time with your dad, it's like, well,
- 17:59Speaker 4: we got to go to this, you know. I remember
- 18:02Speaker 4: sitting there and watching and things so and being around
- 18:04Speaker 4: the law office.
- 18:05Speaker 3: That's just you kind of love it good or bad.
- 18:08Speaker 4: But yeah, we've been around for a long time, writing
- 18:10Speaker 4: Nitro convenient location if you you know, kind of automobile accidents,
- 18:15Speaker 4: injury cases, dispute with insurance companies on behalf ordinary people.
- 18:20Speaker 4: We don't really do any big business work.
- 18:21Speaker 3: We do a lot of.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Decent amount of small business work, but most of the
- 18:25Speaker 4: ordinary stuff that ordinary people need, but a lot of
- 18:28Speaker 4: automobile accidents and insurance disputes. If you got any issues,
- 18:31Speaker 4: feel free to give us a call. Our number at
- 18:33Speaker 4: the office is three zero four seven five five five
- 18:37Speaker 4: five five six. Excellent way to get Ahold of Us
- 18:39Speaker 4: is through our website. You can send an email and
- 18:41Speaker 4: that doesn't go to like a canned answering service or
- 18:44Speaker 4: something like that. It goes to my email and dad's email,
- 18:47Speaker 4: and then we try and respond same day. There's never
- 18:50Speaker 4: any charge for initial contact with us. If you have
- 18:52Speaker 4: a question about any particular legal issue, don't hesitate to
- 18:55Speaker 4: reach out if it's something not in our wheelhouse. We've
- 18:57Speaker 4: been around long enough to know who all your lawyers
- 19:00Speaker 4: are around here that might be able to help you
- 19:02Speaker 4: in that particular field, so we can give you, give
- 19:05Speaker 4: you a referral. But we, you know, don't do a
- 19:07Speaker 4: lot of billboards or TV. We've done obviously a lot
- 19:10Speaker 4: of radio advertising, and.
- 19:11Speaker 3: We appreciate that.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Well, it's it's effective and affordable, so there's a reason
- 19:14Speaker 4: why we've done it. But you know, really, as far
- 19:18Speaker 4: as putting money into a lot of TV commercials during
- 19:21Speaker 4: the new news or whatever, we're mass billboard campaigns. Honestly,
- 19:26Speaker 4: we made decision years ago to we'd rather some of
- 19:30Speaker 4: it like this we get some some some recognition for.
- 19:32Speaker 4: But we do give a lot around the community to
- 19:34Speaker 4: sports teams and other community organizations just to kind of
- 19:37Speaker 4: make things better and hope that folks, you know, if
- 19:40Speaker 4: you have an issue. You know that he wants to
- 19:42Speaker 4: be in a car wreck or have a family member
- 19:43Speaker 4: hurt or But if you are, maybe you'll consider us
- 19:48Speaker 4: versus the folks that have all the billboards and TV
- 19:51Speaker 4: commercials all over the place. We'll do a good job
- 19:54Speaker 4: if you hire us. Trust me.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Now, you said that you know growing up with your
- 19:57Speaker 3: dad that you were, you were in courtrooms at ten
- 19:59Speaker 3: years old and so on and so for. Did you
- 20:01Speaker 3: ever give any thought to doing anything else?
- 20:03Speaker 11: Oh?
- 20:04Speaker 4: Yeah, well I was not going to be a lawyer. Actually, Uh,
- 20:08Speaker 4: folks probably find this strange, but I was more of
- 20:11Speaker 4: a science guy growing up. And of course in the
- 20:14Speaker 4: eight I was I'm turning fifty next month, so you know,
- 20:18Speaker 4: growing up in the eighties, I was actually like, I
- 20:20Speaker 4: liked reptiles and amphibians. For whatever reason, I was gonna
- 20:23Speaker 4: be a herpetologist. Went to Marshall and was doing They
- 20:26Speaker 4: had a really good program there. Actually the lead professor
- 20:29Speaker 4: in the state on reptiles amphibians, Professor Paul, was there.
- 20:33Speaker 4: But got into biology and started having to take inorganic chemistry,
- 20:37Speaker 4: and I thought, well, this isn't I wanted to go
- 20:39Speaker 4: out in the jungles and look at snakes and stuff.
- 20:41Speaker 5: I don't want to.
- 20:42Speaker 4: I don't understand this, so then that sounds just horrible, Tom.
- 20:46Speaker 4: It does actually have a there's a pet snake in
- 20:49Speaker 4: my office if you ever come in and you can
- 20:51Speaker 4: check it out. It's neat. But at any event, now
- 20:55Speaker 4: I met my wife, you know, things just changed and
- 20:58Speaker 4: I felt like I had a leg out to practice
- 21:01Speaker 4: law and it came natural to me. So I switched
- 21:03Speaker 4: gears when I was probably a sophomore at Marshall and
- 21:06Speaker 4: switched over to political signs and legal studies and then
- 21:10Speaker 4: went to Morgantown for law school and went from there.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Well have you been doing it ever since?
- 21:16Speaker 1: Now?
- 21:16Speaker 3: As far as the radio show goes, what do you
- 21:19Speaker 3: know what year that started? That the nineteen as your
- 21:22Speaker 3: dad started. I know that we signed the car.
- 21:24Speaker 5: I didn't.
- 21:25Speaker 4: I started law school in ninety eight, but our contract
- 21:28Speaker 4: with to do Ask the Lawyer's Show was nineteen ninety eight.
- 21:31Speaker 4: The first show might have been January nineteen ninety nine.
- 21:33Speaker 4: And we've done it every every Thursday. Every Thursday, you know,
- 21:37Speaker 4: even if we're out of town, we almost always try
- 21:41Speaker 4: to have one of the two of us call in.
- 21:42Speaker 4: So yeah, if you want to listen in every Thursday
- 21:44Speaker 4: morning at eight twenty. You can text in or call
- 21:48Speaker 4: in with questions, and we like to get texts and questions.
- 21:51Speaker 4: But we as you know, we don't really have trouble fill.
- 21:54Speaker 6: In the air.
- 21:55Speaker 3: We can. We have the gift of gab.
- 21:58Speaker 4: You know, to get through it. But yeah, we've done
- 22:00Speaker 4: it every Thursday for gosh, it's now twenty I guess
- 22:03Speaker 4: it'll be twenty seven years.
- 22:05Speaker 3: You can go back and listen in case you miss it.
- 22:07Speaker 3: You know, we want people to listen.
- 22:08Speaker 12: To the others.
- 22:09Speaker 3: But you guys have a podcast usually within about thirty
- 22:11Speaker 3: minutes or so.
- 22:11Speaker 4: I see it on Facebook being shared and we actually
- 22:14Speaker 4: if you go to our website Peyton Lawfirm dot com,
- 22:16Speaker 4: we have a direct hyperlink tab to the radio station.
- 22:20Speaker 4: It takes your right to our various show podcasts. You
- 22:24Speaker 4: can go back and listen if you want to hear
- 22:26Speaker 4: what we said. But you know, if you have a question,
- 22:28Speaker 4: you can call us anytime at the office or send
- 22:30Speaker 4: an email. In this day and age, I get emails,
- 22:33Speaker 4: or you can leave a voicemail and it goes right
- 22:35Speaker 4: to me on a voice file to my phone. So
- 22:36Speaker 4: we're pretty much are twenty four seven operators other than
- 22:39Speaker 4: when we're we're sleeping, but we don't use We don't
- 22:43Speaker 4: use answering services or can things. When you call or
- 22:46Speaker 4: you leave a voicemail or you send an email, it's
- 22:48Speaker 4: coming right to the actual lawyers that would be handling
- 22:51Speaker 4: your case.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Well, Tom Payton, to the Peyton Law Firm. We appreciate
- 22:54Speaker 3: you helping us out here with our radiothon. You Gas
- 22:58Speaker 3: are always the first one to step up in the community.
- 23:00Speaker 1: You know.
- 23:00Speaker 3: As far as our advertisers, we've got a lot of
- 23:02Speaker 3: great advertisers and great community sponsors and of course, while
- 23:04Speaker 3: we say, the greatest listeners in the world as well.
- 23:07Speaker 3: And I appreciate you being here not only for this,
- 23:09Speaker 3: but also today is National Radio Day. That's why our
- 23:12Speaker 3: good friend Leslie Rubin from the West Virginia Broadcasters Association
- 23:15Speaker 3: is here. She's recording some things, so don't be surprised
- 23:18Speaker 3: if she doesn't hitch you up for an interview. She
- 23:20Speaker 3: hasn't already.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Well, I'm always up for an interview. There you go.
- 23:23Speaker 4: No better place to be the best radio station in
- 23:25Speaker 4: the state.
- 23:26Speaker 3: So there you go.
- 23:27Speaker 4: Yeah, and we appreciate you guys putting these on. Yeah,
- 23:30Speaker 4: absolutely regular charitable things and that's that's well.
- 23:34Speaker 3: I mean, we'll take notice, and not to be corny,
- 23:36Speaker 3: but we kind of take that, you know, that tagline
- 23:38Speaker 3: that we've used the last couple of years. Proud to
- 23:40Speaker 3: live here too. We're a West Virginia based company. We
- 23:42Speaker 3: believe in giving back to West Virginia. So Tom Payton,

- 27:15Speaker 3: Kids Radiothon continuing and Logan Scott from our sister station
- 27:20Speaker 3: V one hundred had a chance to sit down with
- 27:22Speaker 3: some of the people making the difference in people's lives.
- 27:25Speaker 15: It's the WVRC Media Cares for Kids. Radiothon Joining me
- 27:29Speaker 15: is Amy Bush, CAO at WVU Medicine Galasano Children's. Now,
- 27:35Speaker 15: it's been quite a year for the hospital as its
- 27:37Speaker 15: transition to WVU Medicine Galasano Children's. Now, what does this
- 27:41Speaker 15: growth mean for patients across the state.
- 27:43Speaker 16: What a year. Indeed, last October when the official announcement
- 27:47Speaker 16: came out of mister Golisano's generous gift, extremely exciting and
- 27:52Speaker 16: grateful time as we continue to grow not only our
- 27:55Speaker 16: children's hospital here in Morgantown, but bringing care closer to
- 27:59Speaker 16: the home communities with our regional hospital partners and the
- 28:04Speaker 16: clinics that we have across the state in the region,
- 28:08Speaker 16: so that we can truly continue to help build healthier futures.
- 28:11Speaker 16: We can make it easier on the families during you know,
- 28:14Speaker 16: stressful times and also for things like wellness and preventative
- 28:18Speaker 16: care that we want to make sure that we have
- 28:21Speaker 16: close to home for the kids. So this gift just
- 28:23Speaker 16: helps us continue on our path to build those healthier futures.
- 28:28Speaker 15: Now, the team here is so dedicated to our kids
- 28:31Speaker 15: and expectant mothers. What is it about them that makes
- 28:34Speaker 15: WVU Medicine Galazano Children so special?
- 28:37Speaker 13: Now?
- 28:37Speaker 16: I think the most important thing is our team works
- 28:41Speaker 16: to deliver care in a manner that they would want
- 28:44Speaker 16: for their own family and their own kids. We have
- 28:47Speaker 16: this saying every day it's for the kids, and we
- 28:50Speaker 16: just want to be that bright spot and helping the
- 28:53Speaker 16: kids and their families more expectant moms navigate during the
- 28:57Speaker 16: times where you know there's there's a new bird and
- 29:00Speaker 16: hopefully all as well, and during times when unexpected things
- 29:04Speaker 16: happen with illness. And so we have this saying we
- 29:07Speaker 16: care big, and we want to make sure that we're
- 29:09Speaker 16: taking care of those that entrust us with their care
- 29:12Speaker 16: as we would our own family.
- 29:13Speaker 15: The hospital may be in Morgantown, but WVU Medicine Galasano
- 29:17Speaker 15: Children's continues to grow across the state. Why is it
- 29:20Speaker 15: so important that the care reaches all of West Virginia
- 29:23Speaker 15: and the surrounding region.
- 29:24Speaker 16: What we know is when we can bring care closer
- 29:27Speaker 16: to home, especially focusing on preventive and wellness, but also
- 29:30Speaker 16: in times of illness, that when there's a need, it's
- 29:34Speaker 16: also a stress on the families too, And so to
- 29:37Speaker 16: the extent that we can help lessen the drive to
- 29:40Speaker 16: get the same level of care and expertise, that is
- 29:44Speaker 16: our goal. And so as we continue to expand our
- 29:47Speaker 16: regional hubs at our larger system hospitals. We also want
- 29:51Speaker 16: to make sure we're providing that care at our community
- 29:53Speaker 16: hospitals so that access is there, it's the same, it's
- 29:57Speaker 16: the same team, and it also flower that cost of
- 30:01Speaker 16: travel and a time and the other stressors that families
- 30:04Speaker 16: just don't need.
- 30:05Speaker 15: And what is the next step for WVU Medicine Galzano
- 30:08Speaker 15: Children's to continue to expand care.
- 30:11Speaker 16: We know we've got some really exciting things in the
- 30:14Speaker 16: works right now. We are in the process of building
- 30:17Speaker 16: out our remaining seven shelled beds from when we initially opened,
- 30:21Speaker 16: so early winter we're going to be opening three additional
- 30:25Speaker 16: beds and our NICU and for additional beds in our cardiac,
- 30:29Speaker 16: petric contensive care epilepsy monitoring area. So that's right here,
- 30:34Speaker 16: you know, on site, and you know, this past January
- 30:37Speaker 16: we opened our new clinic on the tenth floor. We're
- 30:39Speaker 16: also working on efforts to expand things in our surgical
- 30:43Speaker 16: services service line and a lot of wonderful new faculty
- 30:48Speaker 16: joining our hospital that are very sub specialized. Two new
- 30:52Speaker 16: neurooncologists that just recently joined our teams that can help
- 30:56Speaker 16: those kids in need of things like neurooncology. And then
- 30:59Speaker 16: we continue to expand our presence with a new clinic
- 31:03Speaker 16: that's going to be coming the start of the new year,
- 31:05Speaker 16: and Wheeling that'll have imaging and lab and urgent care,
- 31:09Speaker 16: pediatric specialty care. We continue to add to our services,
- 31:13Speaker 16: and Charleston at Thomas Memorial Hospital and just numerous places
- 31:18Speaker 16: that we are working to continue to you know, have
- 31:21Speaker 16: growth for the.
- 31:22Speaker 15: Kids and for those listening at home, how do their
- 31:25Speaker 15: donations make a difference for children who are receiving care?
- 31:29Speaker 16: You know. So this is a fourth year of our
- 31:31Speaker 16: radioson and we're grateful to all of you as our partners.
- 31:34Speaker 16: And I would say every dollar helps, whether it's a
- 31:37Speaker 16: gas card, it's a meal card, it's additional housing for
- 31:40Speaker 16: families who have extended family who can't stay back, whether
- 31:44Speaker 16: it's that next piece of special equipment or technology, or
- 31:48Speaker 16: something specific like helping families with some other need that
- 31:52Speaker 16: they might have during you know, a child's cancer treatment
- 31:55Speaker 16: or whatever it might be. We put each of these
- 31:58Speaker 16: dollars that we raise to great Youth and we just
- 32:01Speaker 16: appreciate and you know, also things like childlife. We want
- 32:04Speaker 16: to make things as normal as possible when they're here.
- 32:07Speaker 16: So the events that we have for the kids, the
- 32:09Speaker 16: football parties, the parades at holiday times, you know, Trigger Tree,
- 32:13Speaker 16: all the things go into making this hospital here and
- 32:17Speaker 16: around the state in the region what it is, and
- 32:20Speaker 16: all these dollars go towards that.
- 32:22Speaker 15: That's Amy Bush Cao at WVU Medicine Galasano Children's. This
- 32:28Speaker 15: is the WVRC Media Cares for Kids Radiothon.
- 32:31Speaker 3: That's Logan Scott of course from our sister station V
- 32:33Speaker 3: one hundred. Logan's actually in Morgantown right now. He and
- 32:35Speaker 3: Jenny Murray from V one hundred made the trip up
- 32:38Speaker 3: there and we'll be hearing more from those guys and
- 32:40Speaker 3: gals coming up over the next couple of days as
- 32:43Speaker 3: we continue with our WVRC Media Cares for Kids radiothon
- 32:46Speaker 3: today and tomorrow, raising money for the incredible support and
- 32:50Speaker 3: just the incredible programs that are offered by WVU Medicine
- 32:53Speaker 3: Galisano Children's. Now you may not know this, but now
- 32:57Speaker 3: you do. Today's National Radio Day. As I said, somebody
- 33:02Speaker 3: came up with the idea to celebrate us. So I
- 33:04Speaker 3: want to welcome to the show now Leslie Rubin. Leslie
- 33:07Speaker 3: is the head of the West Virginia Broadcast Association, role
- 33:10Speaker 3: that she just stepped into after taking over for the great, awesome,
- 33:16Speaker 3: wonderful Michelle christ who did such a good job for
- 33:19Speaker 3: so many years. But Leslie's in the studio with us
- 33:21Speaker 3: right now. Good morning, welcome to the show.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Thank you for having me, Dave. Even though I kind
- 33:25Speaker 2: of invited myself, you did, I guess.
- 33:27Speaker 3: You did, so it's okay. Yeah. She sent me a
- 33:30Speaker 3: text yesterday and said, Hey, tomorrow is National Radio Day.
- 33:35Speaker 3: You mind if I come by and do some video
- 33:38Speaker 3: And I'm looking forward to seeing it because you know,
- 33:40Speaker 3: you've interviewed Chris, Lawrence and Daniel and I think you
- 33:43Speaker 3: just talked to Tom Payton a couple of months ago.
- 33:45Speaker 3: You've been banded.
- 33:46Speaker 2: I'm getting videos from the guys in Morgantown that are
- 33:48Speaker 2: up at the radio run too.
- 33:50Speaker 3: Right, And so you're buzzing around here, you know, I'm
- 33:52Speaker 3: doing interviews and stuff, big shoes to fill with Michelle.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Chris, I know, And god, don't you just love her?
- 33:59Speaker 3: Yeah, she's fantastic.
- 34:00Speaker 2: So Michelle and I worked literally side by side from
- 34:05Speaker 2: July first to July thirty first. We were together every
- 34:08Speaker 2: day and I've tried to cram thirty years of knowledge
- 34:14Speaker 2: in thirty days into my head and but she did
- 34:19Speaker 2: a great job teaching me. So you know, I just
- 34:21Speaker 2: I know I have a lot to a big shoes
- 34:25Speaker 2: to phill but I could not be more proud that
- 34:30Speaker 2: she trusts me to do it. So I'm excited.
- 34:33Speaker 3: And what exactly does the Western Deinian Broadcasters Association do
- 34:38Speaker 3: for those for those that are outside the business.
- 34:40Speaker 2: What well I have to explain it to sometimes even
- 34:42Speaker 2: people in the business, you know. So we are made
- 34:45Speaker 2: up of TV and radio stations across the state are members,
- 34:51Speaker 2: you know, that's you guys, that's you know, other radio stations,
- 34:55Speaker 2: all of the TV stations, and we work for you.
- 34:59Speaker 2: We're advocate, we want to get you training, we want
- 35:03Speaker 2: to make sure your voices are heard at the Capitol.
- 35:06Speaker 2: When there's issues that come up that can affect anything
- 35:11Speaker 2: that you do over the year, from advertising, drone usage
- 35:15Speaker 2: that's a big thing you know that is being used. Well,
- 35:19Speaker 2: there's there's just legislation sometimes that's passed around that could
- 35:25Speaker 2: not be beneficial for news drones, you know, drones that
- 35:28Speaker 2: are out there cover and we've got those all the
- 35:30Speaker 2: team stations have one and so something like that. There's
- 35:35Speaker 2: just so many little things that come up that you
- 35:37Speaker 2: don't realize, you know, are can affect broadcasters. And we're
- 35:41Speaker 2: here to make sure your voices are heard and do
- 35:45Speaker 2: everything that we can to get you the resources that
- 35:47Speaker 2: you need and you know, advocate for you. That's and
- 35:53Speaker 2: I could not be more happy to do.
- 35:55Speaker 5: So.
- 35:56Speaker 2: I just absolutely love West Virginia. But West Virginia broadcasting,
- 36:01Speaker 2: I mean it's just it's I love it. I love
- 36:03Speaker 2: everything about radio and TV, especially in the state.
- 36:06Speaker 3: Of course, you were, you know, on w c HS television.
- 36:09Speaker 3: No relation, uh for I have to say that.
- 36:12Speaker 2: I know, get confused.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Well i'll tell you. Do you remember the whole Jimmy
- 36:15Speaker 3: Kimmel thing.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Oh yes, and I know you all just.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Got lown up over threatening messages about you know, Jimmy Kimmel,
- 36:23Speaker 3: and I was like, we have no relationships.
- 36:26Speaker 2: I'd be the one answering this, not that was me.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but but no we are. We are not related.
- 36:32Speaker 3: But good folks over there, and you spent a lot
- 36:34Speaker 3: of time there. That's where most people are going to
- 36:36Speaker 3: know you from that you're a West Virginia native. Right,
- 36:38Speaker 3: all right, tell us your tell us your story.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Well, I was born in Buchanan, but I only lived
- 36:42Speaker 2: there charless about six and then just for a really
- 36:45Speaker 2: short period of time. My dad's an oil and gas
- 36:48Speaker 2: so we moved to Houston, Texas, but we came back
- 36:50Speaker 2: to Charleston, and that's where he's from. My mom's from
- 36:53Speaker 2: Clay County, and that's where I've been ever since. I
- 36:56Speaker 2: did go to school at WVU. Then I went to
- 36:59Speaker 2: w d TV in Clarksburg for two years, and all
- 37:02Speaker 2: I wanted to do was come home and be a
- 37:05Speaker 2: reporter in my hometown. I never really had the I
- 37:08Speaker 2: want to grow and go to bigger markets and you know,
- 37:11Speaker 2: do all of that stuff that a lot of people
- 37:13Speaker 2: on TV do. I just wanted to be home. I
- 37:16Speaker 2: love West Virginia so much. I could never imagine living
- 37:19Speaker 2: somewhere else. And I can't imagine being a journalist anywhere
- 37:23Speaker 2: else because you have to care about the stories that
- 37:25Speaker 2: you're telling, and I'm not sure that I would care
- 37:29Speaker 2: like I do.
- 37:30Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, And it's and I can I can totally
- 37:32Speaker 3: relate to that because, you know, while all of our
- 37:36Speaker 3: reporters radio and television, you know, do a fantastic job.
- 37:40Speaker 3: It's just when you, when you actually invested in the area,
- 37:43Speaker 3: I think you'll do a little bit better job. And
- 37:45Speaker 3: I was like, that's not the fault of them.
- 37:47Speaker 2: No, if you're not from here and you want to
- 37:49Speaker 2: be here and you want to tell.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Our stories, come with people that have come here and
- 37:53Speaker 3: chosen to stay here.
- 37:54Speaker 2: It's that.
- 37:55Speaker 3: I love that that dingy co host of mine in
- 37:57Speaker 3: the afternoon is one of those people right there. Now,
- 37:59Speaker 3: A man you know is not from here. I know,
- 38:03Speaker 3: but she worked here a number of years, went back
- 38:05Speaker 3: up yeah, back home to Cleveland, and then decided she
- 38:08Speaker 3: wanted to be back here.
- 38:09Speaker 2: That happens so often, And I don't love those stories
- 38:14Speaker 2: because you do kind of realize once from what I've heard,
- 38:18Speaker 2: I mean, I've not experienced that, but once you leave
- 38:20Speaker 2: your life.
- 38:21Speaker 3: Man, I want to go back exactly. We're talking to
- 38:24Speaker 3: Leslie Uben Westterrnginia Badcasters Association on National Radio Day to
- 38:28Speaker 3: Dave Allen Show on five eighty line, broad to you
- 38:30Speaker 3: in part by Hustin's Pizza. This month, get a large
- 38:33Speaker 3: at Niche Pepperoni pizza and an eight inch chocolate chip cookie.
- 38:35Speaker 3: Twenty three ninety nine Find your local husbands for delivery,
- 38:38Speaker 3: pick up her Dining, and Huston's Pizza dot com. Do
- 38:40Speaker 3: you ever do any any radio for any length of time?
- 38:43Speaker 3: I asked that because a lot of people when they
- 38:46Speaker 3: study broadcasting, do a little bit of television, do a
- 38:48Speaker 3: little bit of radio. Did you ever do any radio
- 38:51Speaker 3: for an amount of time?
- 38:52Speaker 2: Nope, only time I've been on the radios here.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Oh really, wasn't part of your studies at WU?
- 38:57Speaker 17: Then?
- 38:57Speaker 2: No, we had a radio station there unit need to,
- 39:00Speaker 2: but I was not involved with them. I just sick
- 39:02Speaker 2: strictly did TV stuff. So anything I know about radio
- 39:07Speaker 2: I've learned through the association and coming here and talking,
- 39:11Speaker 2: you know, and being a guest on your all shows
- 39:14Speaker 2: and yeah, or well actually I used to be. This
- 39:18Speaker 2: is an embarrassing story. Do you have time like thirty
- 39:20Speaker 2: seconds for this? So you know what radio? When I
- 39:24Speaker 2: was grown up, that's when you put the cassette in
- 39:26Speaker 2: and you record your songs, because that's you.
- 39:28Speaker 3: Know, the only I know where this is going. Go ahead, Okay, So.
- 39:34Speaker 2: I was that annoying teenager that's calling the radio station
- 39:38Speaker 2: trying to be like caller thirteen, or can you send
- 39:41Speaker 2: a song out to my best friend Christine, so I
- 39:46Speaker 2: know they were probably sicking me.
- 39:49Speaker 3: Look as I will say this too, I knew I
- 39:53Speaker 3: wanted to do this from the time I was like
- 39:55Speaker 3: five or six years old. I wanted to be on
- 39:57Speaker 3: the radio. And the story I have told is that
- 40:01Speaker 3: my radio was always on in my house growing up,
- 40:03Speaker 3: or in the car or whatever my grandparents and I
- 40:05Speaker 3: went to Beckley, uh and they're one of the stations there.
- 40:08Speaker 3: I don't even know who it was. Fred Pursinger swears
- 40:10Speaker 3: it wasn't him. I don't know, but somebody was doing
- 40:12Speaker 3: a live broadcast at a hardware store where it was
- 40:15Speaker 3: a culmination of a giant prize giveaway and like it
- 40:18Speaker 3: had to be present to win. They were giving away
- 40:20Speaker 3: the chainsaw or something, I don't know what it was.
- 40:22Speaker 3: And I thought, that is the coolest job in the
- 40:25Speaker 3: world right there, what that guy is doing, That's what
- 40:27Speaker 3: I want to do. And I was so obsessed with it.
- 40:31Speaker 3: And here's where I thought you were going with the
- 40:32Speaker 3: cassette story. People of my generation, when a lot of
- 40:37Speaker 3: my people would they would record songs off the radio,
- 40:39Speaker 3: but try not to get the radio announcer. They would
- 40:42Speaker 3: try not that I'm sorry I was getting the radio announcer.
- 40:46Speaker 3: I couldn't care left about the songs I wanted. I
- 40:48Speaker 3: wanted to I would stop it when the song came on.
- 40:51Speaker 3: You know, I wanted to get the actual announcer.
- 40:55Speaker 2: And I that's the coolest story out And I could tell.
- 40:58Speaker 3: You every announcer that was on because I grew up
- 41:01Speaker 3: in Logan. But we got a lot of the radios
- 41:03Speaker 3: that we got. All the Charleston stations came in clear,
- 41:05Speaker 3: all the Huntings and stations, Beckley, Bluefield. Of course my
- 41:07Speaker 3: hometown Logan, Williamson, Pikeville, Prestonsburg, Kentucky. We had all those radio.
- 41:12Speaker 3: Plus when I got, you know, a real fancy radio
- 41:15Speaker 3: and could listen to Woe Woe out of Fort Wayne, Indiana,
- 41:18Speaker 3: and WSB in Atlanta and KDKA and Pittsburgh. I really
- 41:22Speaker 3: became obsessed with it then. And I will say this, leslie.
- 41:26Speaker 3: There are constantly reports out there that radio is dying.
- 41:31Speaker 3: They said the same thing when TV came around of
- 41:34Speaker 3: the late nineteen forties and early nineteen fifties.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Raised I got some stats. You want me to read
- 41:37Speaker 2: it or did you already poll?
- 41:39Speaker 6: No?
- 41:39Speaker 3: No, I didn't have these stats. I just wanted to
- 41:41Speaker 3: say that the way radio survived when television first became
- 41:45Speaker 3: a thing in the late forties and early fifties was
- 41:47Speaker 3: they evolved. They got away from the from the serials
- 41:51Speaker 3: and you know, the dramas and comedies and things like that.
- 41:56Speaker 3: And so I mean now and you've got the stats.
- 41:59Speaker 3: I didn't know you were to do this.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Well, I hadn't planned on it, but you know, I
- 42:02Speaker 2: just got them.
- 42:03Speaker 3: People still listen to radio as much as they ever did.
- 42:06Speaker 3: What's changed is the way that it's consumed. And there's
- 42:09Speaker 3: a certain crossover with television on that as well, especially
- 42:13Speaker 3: with talk radio. The majority of people are listening by streaming,
- 42:17Speaker 3: and a lot of times they're not even listening live.
- 42:19Speaker 3: I mean though, I mean all of our shows are podcasts.
- 42:22Speaker 3: I have people that tell me, oh, I listened to
- 42:25Speaker 3: your nine o'clock show at nine o'clock at night when
- 42:27Speaker 3: I'm taking a walk around the next round.
- 42:29Speaker 2: That's how you've evolved, because now somebody is able to
- 42:32Speaker 2: listen to you at nine o'clock at night, and that's
- 42:34Speaker 2: you know, that's just what we.
- 42:35Speaker 13: Have to do.
- 42:36Speaker 3: All right, what kind of stats of you guys?
- 42:37Speaker 2: All right, here we go AMFM radio remains the nation's
- 42:40Speaker 2: media reach leader, reaching eighty seven percent of US adults
- 42:45Speaker 2: on a weekly basis. This was the first quarter of
- 42:48Speaker 2: twenty twenty six. That's what that information came from. It
- 42:51Speaker 2: outpaces every other platform that Nielsen measured, including smartphone apps,
- 42:56Speaker 2: connected TV devices, and traditional television. Eighty seven.
- 43:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I saw that.
- 43:02Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:02Speaker 3: Had I known that many people were listening, I would
- 43:03Speaker 3: address better. Tony the Taytlor takes care of me though.
- 43:07Speaker 3: All right, well, we appreciate you coming in here and
- 43:10Speaker 3: joining us here on National Radio Day. And so you've
- 43:13Speaker 3: been filming and doing stuff. So where can people see that?
- 43:16Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to work on a social media video
- 43:19Speaker 2: and I'm going to post it on the West Virginia
- 43:21Speaker 2: Broadcasters Association Facebook page, which I have been trying to grow.
- 43:25Speaker 2: And I don't want just you know, radio and TV
- 43:27Speaker 2: people on there. I want the community on there too,
- 43:29Speaker 2: seeing what we're doing, seeing all the great stuff that
- 43:31Speaker 2: broadcasters are doing for the community. I mean, look what
- 43:34Speaker 2: you all did with the flood fundraising, you know, and
- 43:39Speaker 2: the TV stations they do the same thing. We broadcasters
- 43:43Speaker 2: do amazing work. We are part of the community and
- 43:46Speaker 2: we want to help the community and inform the community.
- 43:49Speaker 2: So I want the community to also be involved in
- 43:51Speaker 2: that Facebook page. So anyone that's listening that wants to
- 43:53Speaker 2: stop by, shoot it alike and you'll see the content
- 43:57Speaker 2: that's coming out from you know, our wonderful memory B
- 44:00Speaker 2: TV and radio station Cruss.
- 44:01Speaker 3: If you've never seen him, you get to see what
- 44:03Speaker 3: a sexy beast. Chris Lawrence says, Oh, yes, so it's
- 44:06Speaker 3: come Leslie rubn U's raining a Broadcast Association. Thank you
- 44:10Speaker 3: for a coming fine Happy National Radio Day. Yes you too,

- 48:27Speaker 3: a great job covering the horrific child abuse case in
- 48:30Speaker 3: Systemsville done by non West Virginians. Congratulations on your new position.
- 48:33Speaker 3: I will make sure that she hears that I had
- 48:37Speaker 3: to tell you this. You know, a lot of time
- 48:39Speaker 3: has been spent over the last twenty four to thirty
- 48:41Speaker 3: six hours or so talking about Willy Acres. We spent
- 48:44Speaker 3: a large segment of the show yesterday talking about Willy,
- 48:46Speaker 3: of course, passing away Tuesday at the age of eighty nine.
- 48:50Speaker 3: I just I got one more quickly Acre story I
- 48:53Speaker 3: have to tell you, And we mentioned about Willie the coach,
- 48:57Speaker 3: Willie the educator. He was an assistant super intended. He
- 49:00Speaker 3: also took over the bowling alley and logan which was
- 49:04Speaker 3: about to shut down and he and his wife Linda
- 49:06Speaker 3: took it over just as to give the community something
- 49:09Speaker 3: to do, and that was fantastic. But I will say
- 49:12Speaker 3: this one one of my favorite Willie Acres stories came
- 49:16Speaker 3: after he retired and we got together a charity basketball
- 49:22Speaker 3: game and it was benefiting I think the Salvation Army
- 49:25Speaker 3: or something like that. And this is when Billy Donovan
- 49:27Speaker 3: was coaching at Marshall. So Billy Donovan brought down a
- 49:31Speaker 3: team of Marshall you know, Hall of famers, all time
- 49:35Speaker 3: great for Marshall, and Willy put together a team of
- 49:39Speaker 3: Logan Wildcat legends and put him together. And if you
- 49:42Speaker 3: knew Willy as a coach, he was a very, very
- 49:44Speaker 3: fiery individual. As I was doing PA for the game,
- 49:48Speaker 3: this was like in the mid nineties, I said, Billy
- 49:50Speaker 3: Donovan was at Marshall. So that tells you how long
- 49:52Speaker 3: ago it's been. So the referees bring the players out
- 49:56Speaker 3: for the jump ball to start the game. Willie immediately
- 49:59Speaker 3: picks up a chair and throws out on the court
- 50:00Speaker 3: and gets the technical for no reason other than just
- 50:02Speaker 3: it was for old time sake. And the referee looked
- 50:05Speaker 3: at him and ted him up, and he just kind
- 50:07Speaker 3: of bowed and went on. So I love it when
- 50:14Speaker 3: Willie played. Was that during segregation? I mean, I'd have
- 50:18Speaker 3: to look that up. I mean, he played for the
- 50:19Speaker 3: national championship in nineteen fifty nine, and so I'm gonna
- 50:23Speaker 3: think probably no, I don't know. I'll get you an
- 50:25Speaker 3: answer on that coming up later today. Metro News, Midday
- 50:28Speaker 3: thirteen News and Tonight Live anchor Manda Bearnon and me

- 50:41Speaker 3: course open Line West Virginia. And by the way, thank
- 50:43Speaker 3: you to Jeff Jenkins for subbing for me yesterday on
