- 0:00Speaker 1: Butlet Cap Podcast bout Let keV Show Special guest episode
- 0:04Speaker 1: number two hundred too. Now I feel like I asked,
- 0:09Speaker 1: I'm knowing when not classic and it's only right on
- 0:12Speaker 1: episode two hundred. We have a legend, and I appreciate
- 0:14Speaker 1: this legend because his new album is out right now,
- 0:18Speaker 1: I appreciate him too. But I used to hate Joe
- 0:20Speaker 1: Ass at one point in time because you was that
- 0:23Speaker 1: guy in my relationship where every time you came on
- 0:25Speaker 1: the radio, here go your nigga babe, here you go.
- 0:29Speaker 1: But he brought He brought his physical CD physical. We
- 0:33Speaker 1: got a physical album. I brought physical. Yes, I don't
- 0:38Speaker 1: even know y'all have a Cdler brought the physical. He's
- 0:41Speaker 1: got to take it out the case. It's gotta take
- 0:43Speaker 1: it off. I gotta see what what it's looking like.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I've been open one of these are a minute, I
- 0:48Speaker 1: still haven't open one. I'm just been looking at him.
- 0:50Speaker 1: This is going to be the first. We'll see what
- 0:52Speaker 1: the CD looks like. We're going to open see if
- 0:54Speaker 1: we got thank You's on the inside. Look at listen
- 0:56Speaker 1: you hear that. I kind of missed that plastic paper
- 1:00Speaker 1: the play the album. This is CD. People look at
- 1:04Speaker 1: the d's. That's what we used to play in our cars.
- 1:06Speaker 1: It's not. This is the difference though, it is now
- 1:11Speaker 1: instead of a booklet, Q you got a QR to
- 1:16Speaker 1: get the thank you. Yes, Now, listen, there has to
- 1:20Speaker 1: be compromise. I get it, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:22Speaker 1: And in this in this new wage that we're in,
- 1:24Speaker 1: so I fought to press these up. I love it,
- 1:27Speaker 1: but you know, there have to be some compromise on
- 1:29Speaker 1: the amount of paper material that went into Was it
- 1:32Speaker 1: a tough fight to put the CD out? Though? Over
- 1:35Speaker 1: just Atlantic? They got No, it wasn't a tough fight.
- 1:39Speaker 1: But I am. I am an artist that still sells
- 1:42Speaker 1: physical CD okay, so you know. And I asked me
- 1:46Speaker 1: for BUYINGEL and they asked me for CD. Vinyl still popping, right,
- 1:49Speaker 1: vinyls a cracker. Yeah, Like, if you ain't selling vinyl
- 1:51Speaker 1: as a artist, you're tripping. It's crazy. I prefer Vinyl
- 1:53Speaker 1: over CD right now. You have a you don't even
- 1:55Speaker 1: have a record. I have a record, Yeah I do.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I'll use it, you know what I got. So listen, man,
- 2:03Speaker 1: this is your final album? Yeah, so what made you
- 2:06Speaker 1: decide to just hang it up? Well? The thing that
- 2:11Speaker 1: made me want to transition because you got the R
- 2:13Speaker 1: and B Money podcast, Army Money. Army Money label started
- 2:16Speaker 1: with the arm By Money label, and that was just
- 2:19Speaker 1: an alert, Armby makes money. You want to make money
- 2:22Speaker 1: on arm and B. Come to RMB money. We understand it,
- 2:24Speaker 1: we know the blueprint, we got it. But the thing
- 2:28Speaker 1: that kind of prompted my transition to happen, I think
- 2:31Speaker 1: maybe a little bit faster than I had thought I
- 2:33Speaker 1: would orchestrate. It was just you know, kind of going death,
- 2:36Speaker 1: you know, my right ear and some of my left,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and then the vertigo and then just that journey and
- 2:40Speaker 1: challenge that I went through medically, which kind of made
- 2:43Speaker 1: me look at time differently, right. You know, I wasn't
- 2:46Speaker 1: purposely procrastinating, you know, I just I was just taking
- 2:49Speaker 1: the steps, you know, maybe a little bit more cavalier
- 2:52Speaker 1: or more casual than I am now, because it's like
- 2:57Speaker 1: you look at the legacy, and you look at all
- 2:58Speaker 1: the goals and the things that you want to accomplish,
- 3:01Speaker 1: and just being on stage and taking my shirt off
- 3:04Speaker 1: singing in front of thousands you know women, that that's
- 3:06Speaker 1: not the end goal, right. The end goal for me
- 3:09Speaker 1: has always been to give that back, you know what,
- 3:12Speaker 1: I mean, to establish a foundation where singer songwriters and
- 3:16Speaker 1: producers could go and get their opportunity at a twenty
- 3:20Speaker 1: plus year career, and that I could help facilitate that
- 3:22Speaker 1: in some way, shape or form. That's always been the
- 3:25Speaker 1: end goal. So you know, the album process takes a
- 3:29Speaker 1: lot of time away from that. This is you know,
- 3:31Speaker 1: this is years in the making. Then a tour has
- 3:34Speaker 1: to go along with it, all of these things, and
- 3:36Speaker 1: it just keeps me away from that other thing that
- 3:39Speaker 1: I really want to get to, the mission and then acting.
- 3:42Speaker 1: So you know, I do act. I have appeared on
- 3:45Speaker 1: a bunch of stuff, but I haven't been able to
- 3:47Speaker 1: put the time into it. You have to, you have to,
- 3:51Speaker 1: they can't. The casting directors have to know that you're
- 3:54Speaker 1: available and that you're not going to go on tour
- 3:56Speaker 1: in the middle, in the middle of shooting. You know
- 3:59Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I got to take days when he's
- 4:00Speaker 1: available and only shoot those days of what They don't
- 4:03Speaker 1: want to deal with that, right, They want to know
- 4:04Speaker 1: that the actor is available for whatever needs to be done.
- 4:07Speaker 1: That's sitting, that's all. And so I have to get
- 4:11Speaker 1: off this roll, get off this bus, get off this
- 4:12Speaker 1: plane and sit down and build these things in order
- 4:16Speaker 1: for you know, for me for my goals to be fulfilled. Yo,
- 4:20Speaker 1: going deaf in one of your ears as an artist,
- 4:23Speaker 1: does that change anything about your process? Like? Do you
- 4:27Speaker 1: like like because it feels like obviously that's such an
- 4:29Speaker 1: important component of for sure got to be scary too.
- 4:32Speaker 1: It's scary at first, right because it's like I no
- 4:35Speaker 1: longer hear in stereo, you know what I mean, It's
- 4:37Speaker 1: all and then how do you process all of the
- 4:39Speaker 1: information in one ear? You know what I'm saying, From
- 4:41Speaker 1: music to voice to people talking, stuff moving, it's all
- 4:45Speaker 1: happening in one ear. And so yeah, it was an adjustment,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I mean it. You know, I was off balance for
- 4:52Speaker 1: a long time, you know what I mean. And and
- 4:54Speaker 1: my first time on stage from going that was I
- 4:57Speaker 1: was at the Essence Essence Festival and literally almost tripped twice.
- 5:01Speaker 1: So I have vertigo and I'm deaf in my right ear.
- 5:04Speaker 1: So I'm like, I'm looking back, I can't really hear.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I'm telling my guy, I'm pointing at my sound guy,
- 5:10Speaker 1: like turned the vocal up or turned that down, turn
- 5:13Speaker 1: the vocal back down, turned no don't. I couldn't figure
- 5:16Speaker 1: it out. They didn't, nobody else knew it. But in
- 5:18Speaker 1: my mind, I'm like, am I off? Am I am?
- 5:21Speaker 1: I am? I am I sharp? And my flat like
- 5:23Speaker 1: I couldn't tell. So it took a minute to find
- 5:27Speaker 1: that's a balance. Oh it's a lot. Yeah. I get
- 5:30Speaker 1: some weight, so you be that fat dude on stage
- 5:32Speaker 1: on the couchle. What's crazy is that I did gain weight.
- 5:35Speaker 1: You can't tell fat dudeys physic That's what I showed you, guys. Yeah,
- 5:42Speaker 1: but but the medicine, I don't know if anybody knows
- 5:44Speaker 1: anything about pregnant zone, very very very nasty, stereoides, stereoid
- 5:48Speaker 1: and and you know it was it was to help
- 5:51Speaker 1: the nerves in my ear. But what it also does
- 5:53Speaker 1: it sends you into a depression, which I'm already depress
- 5:56Speaker 1: because I only got one ear and I don't know
- 5:57Speaker 1: what the hell, which just magnifies that, magnifies that, and
- 6:01Speaker 1: then I'm eating like ninety going north, Like I'm doing
- 6:04Speaker 1: sixty milligrams of presnis on a day. I'm eating from
- 6:07Speaker 1: sun up to sundown. Anybody knows me, I don't eat
- 6:09Speaker 1: a lot of food and I have chronic reflux to
- 6:11Speaker 1: go along with that. So I'm having to sleep sitting up.
- 6:13Speaker 1: My stomach is out there here so that I won't
- 6:15Speaker 1: throw up on myself, sleep sitting up every night. It
- 6:19Speaker 1: was a process, man, and then trying to get back
- 6:22Speaker 1: in shape, and you know, it was it was. It
- 6:24Speaker 1: was one of the rare times where I was down mentally,
- 6:27Speaker 1: physically and spiritually. That's rough, you know what I mean.
- 6:29Speaker 1: And it's it's been. This album has been all of
- 6:33Speaker 1: that journey. It's been all of it. A lot of
- 6:36Speaker 1: that here, A lot of that is in there, you
- 6:37Speaker 1: know what I mean. And so now I can now
- 6:40Speaker 1: I'm in a place where I can say, yeah, I'm
- 6:42Speaker 1: ready to I'm ready to make that transition and I'm
- 6:44Speaker 1: happy to make it. So how did you climb out
- 6:46Speaker 1: of the depression and get back spiritually where you want
- 6:49Speaker 1: to be happy and to create again good people around me? Man?
- 6:52Speaker 1: My wife is you know, that's that's that's like my anchor, man,
- 6:54Speaker 1: She's She's just always there. You know what I'm saying.
- 6:56Speaker 1: My wife is like the what do you need? Every
- 6:58Speaker 1: five minutes? What can I do? What can I do?
- 7:01Speaker 1: You know? My got Lulu, I got you Valentine just
- 7:04Speaker 1: always in my air. Bro you you got it. You
- 7:06Speaker 1: gotta got out of a strong circle. You know what
- 7:08Speaker 1: I'm saying. My guy John Gaines, who you know, started
- 7:11Speaker 1: started helping me build back physically, you know what I'm saying.
- 7:13Speaker 1: And mentally, you know what I'm saying, just saying, you
- 7:15Speaker 1: got you gotta push. This is your tank. You know
- 7:18Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Don't you think? Man? Like you said,
- 7:20Speaker 1: people love to see you with your shirt off. People
- 7:22Speaker 1: love to see the tips. And you know I can't
- 7:24Speaker 1: let the people down. You know what I'm saying. We
- 7:26Speaker 1: don't like seeing that titties a song, just surprised for
- 7:32Speaker 1: the wife. Bring tank out at the wedding on Saturday.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I don't want this nigga nowhere near my wedding. If
- 7:38Speaker 1: I see. I'm not crying for the wrong reason. I'm here.
- 7:42Speaker 1: It's sober before it started. I'm just setting you up, man,
- 7:45Speaker 1: I'm here to set you up to knock it down.
- 7:48Speaker 1: But I successfully. She liked fat dudes. Now so Ross
- 7:52Speaker 1: and DJ Cally. She's got no choice. She got no choice.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Now they're a level because I've been trying to lose
- 7:58Speaker 1: the same hundred rounds for like the last you know,
- 7:59Speaker 1: I've been going to gym, been working with each other
- 8:02Speaker 1: for about a year and a half, and he's been
- 8:04Speaker 1: working out every morning at five am, and he looks
- 8:06Speaker 1: the same. Matter. In fact, I have a picture with
- 8:08Speaker 1: you from twenty thirteen and you haven't aged not a bit.
- 8:12Speaker 1: And I keep agent. They say, black, don't crack, But
- 8:16Speaker 1: what happened with me? I'm I don't. I don't know
- 8:18Speaker 1: if you've cracked. She had. Yeah, it's it's not some
- 8:27Speaker 1: people have Tank and Dwight jeans and it's not the
- 8:31Speaker 1: it's not so much to work, bro, it's it's it's
- 8:34Speaker 1: the intake. You got to manage the intake. The diet.
- 8:38Speaker 1: That's it. That's what. That's what they've been telling me
- 8:41Speaker 1: all this time. When they say it's eighty percent diet
- 8:44Speaker 1: twenty percent like working out, that's true, right, Yeah, you can.
- 8:48Speaker 1: You can. There are diets where you don't have to
- 8:50Speaker 1: work out at all. What it does what you do? Yeah,
- 8:54Speaker 1: what are those diets? There are Keto diets right now? Yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 1: we talked about keto every day. Twenty five pounds right now? Really? Yeah,
- 9:01Speaker 1: I mean I also work out, but you know, because
- 9:03Speaker 1: you look like ship too, So this is wild there, Keto.
- 9:09Speaker 1: There's also a carb free diet, you know what I mean,
- 9:13Speaker 1: where you supplement your carbs in other ways. Maybe you
- 9:15Speaker 1: know Celsius energy drinks, that type of thing, and just
- 9:18Speaker 1: just rely on protein and veggies and and let it
- 9:22Speaker 1: burn that way. And and then there's and then there's uh,
- 9:27Speaker 1: there's low calorie eating, you know what I mean. So
- 9:29Speaker 1: that's when you eat more times a day, but you
- 9:32Speaker 1: keep the calories load of smaller meals. Probably all the
- 9:34Speaker 1: respect was for you and everything, but I ain't listening
- 9:37Speaker 1: to none of that. And he also eats chocolates every night.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Every night, he's fucking taking a weed brownie to go
- 9:42Speaker 1: to sleep. Without the edibles. You're an addict a kind
- 9:47Speaker 1: of connotation to it. You have to stop. It's you.
- 9:51Speaker 1: It's you, buddy, it's the pandemic edibles, it's me. It's you.
- 9:57Speaker 1: We're on the other side of the pandemic. You just
- 9:59Speaker 1: we before operating as if we're this to do you
- 10:05Speaker 1: at the end of the day. You getting married on Sunday, Saturday,
- 10:10Speaker 1: right Saturday. Yeah, apparently somebody's happy with you and your decisions. Yeah, somebody.
- 10:17Speaker 1: What he's said, he kiss him every day. Take. I
- 10:20Speaker 1: want to talk to you about R and B because
- 10:22Speaker 1: I feel like good R and B is still out there.
- 10:26Speaker 1: But you know, when I was growing up, it was
- 10:28Speaker 1: your era. It was one twelve, it was Drew Hill,
- 10:31Speaker 1: it was I mean, we can go on and on
- 10:32Speaker 1: and on. By the way, I missed the R and
- 10:34Speaker 1: B group dying dying art form for sure. For sure,
- 10:38Speaker 1: the R and B group is something that I'm like,
- 10:40Speaker 1: what's the R and B group when I was a
- 10:42Speaker 1: tagging edge? But I feel like there's very few people
- 10:47Speaker 1: still making the R and B I was listening to
- 10:51Speaker 1: when I was growing up at a high level. I
- 10:53Speaker 1: think you're obviously somebody like that. I loved Lama's album.
- 10:58Speaker 1: What is your thoughts on just like the current state
- 10:59Speaker 1: of R and B and like some of them more
- 11:01Speaker 1: like I guess alternative arm because some stuff that's considered
- 11:04Speaker 1: R and B these days isn't really like what I
- 11:07Speaker 1: would consider R and B. Of course, does that make sense,
- 11:10Speaker 1: of course, but you have to consider what the kids
- 11:14Speaker 1: now that are doing R and B, what they grew
- 11:17Speaker 1: up on. You know, they grew up in a very
- 11:19Speaker 1: hip hop dominated society, right, you know what I mean?
- 11:23Speaker 1: And then not only that, they also had to live
- 11:27Speaker 1: with rappers, I guess, abandoning just regular rap and doing
- 11:33Speaker 1: all melody rap, right, and now they have to contend
- 11:37Speaker 1: with rappers using melody and actually being emotional. You know
- 11:41Speaker 1: what I'm saying. They baby mamas, you know, is out
- 11:43Speaker 1: of contruct all on the record. They got to shoot somebody,
- 11:46Speaker 1: but then they got to go check on their baby mama.
- 11:49Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, who's not acting right? You
- 11:51Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, who might have been seeing the
- 11:52Speaker 1: guy they shot? You know, you know it's all murky
- 11:56Speaker 1: for us as male R and B singers grew up
- 12:00Speaker 1: on Jodasy boys to men. I'll be sure new addition, Bobby,
- 12:06Speaker 1: That's what we grew up on. So that's what we emulated.
- 12:09Speaker 1: That's what was mainstream. When you looked at the charts,
- 12:12Speaker 1: that was topping the charts, and if you wanted to
- 12:14Speaker 1: be somebody, you had to be like that. When these
- 12:17Speaker 1: kids look at the charts and they wanted to be somebody,
- 12:20Speaker 1: all they saw were rappers and there's future, there's juice world.
- 12:25Speaker 1: So the land just got bigger. They're like, how do
- 12:27Speaker 1: we fit into that? And so it became more about
- 12:31Speaker 1: incorporating the things that were winning, the esthetic that looked
- 12:36Speaker 1: to be the mainstream in order to either fit in
- 12:39Speaker 1: that space or just be seen period, you know what
- 12:42Speaker 1: I mean. And there weren't enough. There weren't enough outlets
- 12:46Speaker 1: that were willing to preserve the traditional nuance of R
- 12:51Speaker 1: and B. They just weren't you know, they weren't willing
- 12:53Speaker 1: to play it. Take a ballot number one. They just weren't,
- 12:56Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And so all of that
- 12:57Speaker 1: got pushed to an urban ac kind of thing which became.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Which is this new radio category, Well now it's it's
- 13:04Speaker 1: it's R and B radio, right, they're making the transition
- 13:07Speaker 1: to make it younger, which has become. But and initially
- 13:10Speaker 1: it was an oldies kind of thing. It was oldies
- 13:13Speaker 1: and some new R and R and B sprinkled in
- 13:17Speaker 1: here and there. You could only get one record off
- 13:19Speaker 1: a year, you know what I mean. So our outlet
- 13:22Speaker 1: was just that they stopped, you know, they stopped having
- 13:26Speaker 1: an R and B hour in the clubs, you know
- 13:29Speaker 1: what I'm saying, The last hour where you could make
- 13:30Speaker 1: a decision on who you was going you know what
- 13:32Speaker 1: I'm saying, Who's going to tap? In with they stopped
- 13:34Speaker 1: having it, so we lost clubs, you know what I'm saying.
- 13:37Speaker 1: We just started losing in so many different places. That
- 13:40Speaker 1: was like how do we fit in? How do we
- 13:43Speaker 1: keep up? We had to adapt their nuances and they're
- 13:48Speaker 1: slowly but surely we got away from what we grew
- 13:53Speaker 1: up on tradition. Shout out I want to shout out
- 13:55Speaker 1: money Long because she took a record to number one
- 13:56Speaker 1: at Urban and Rhythm and that was a very traditional
- 13:59Speaker 1: R and B, very traditional and very awesome for the
- 14:06Speaker 1: conversation because I was like, Yo, this is a real
- 14:08Speaker 1: R and B right, so that we can yell, kick, kick,
- 14:11Speaker 1: and stomp and wave our flags and say, hey it works.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Heartbreak Anniversary was a slower record that did really well.
- 14:20Speaker 1: You know, he's got a crazy voice. But there's been
- 14:22Speaker 1: a few records that have been cutting it like it's like,
- 14:25Speaker 1: you know, it's like they'll give us one a year
- 14:29Speaker 1: or one every six months, and we're like, yeah, that's cool,
- 14:32Speaker 1: but you know, you you give them a hundred, you
- 14:36Speaker 1: give it. Where's the balance? So what you're retiring, do
- 14:39Speaker 1: you feel comfortable leav an R and B where it's
- 14:41Speaker 1: at right now? Do you think it's in good hand.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I'm not leaving it to anybody. I'm going to recruit.
- 14:46Speaker 1: He's got his imprint, right, I'm going to recruit. So
- 14:49Speaker 1: now it's time for me to go build the army
- 14:53Speaker 1: of the songwriters and producers and artists who will feel
- 14:58Speaker 1: the void. And it's about grabbing the one that have
- 15:01Speaker 1: the nuances that I grew up on, right, you know
- 15:04Speaker 1: what I mean. I'm I'm looking for wavy artists, you
- 15:07Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, who can tap in and do
- 15:08Speaker 1: both and who have the trap and the all. I'm
- 15:11Speaker 1: tapping into all of that. But I'm also looking for
- 15:13Speaker 1: the R and B singer. That's a that's a different one.
- 15:17Speaker 1: The R and B singer has to actually be able
- 15:20Speaker 1: to sing right. Also shot out to like if you
- 15:24Speaker 1: think about like today, like back in the day. And
- 15:26Speaker 1: I say this because the New Division record is a
- 15:30Speaker 1: great record produced by Jermaine Dupria JD. Be Cox, absolutely
- 15:35Speaker 1: so if you think of you know, ninety eight ninety nine,
- 15:39Speaker 1: there was like these like mainstays of like R and
- 15:41Speaker 1: B production where it was like and I feel like
- 15:44Speaker 1: maybe the closest person to that that's like craft in
- 15:47Speaker 1: like dope hit records that have R and B vibes.
- 15:50Speaker 1: I mean, I think hit Maker is doing a pretty
- 15:52Speaker 1: decent job at it, like but outside of like I
- 15:55Speaker 1: don't know if we have that Jermaine dupri of like
- 15:58Speaker 1: the new era and traditional art, right, I mean, I
- 16:02Speaker 1: do it for myself, like Mustard's done some dope shit
- 16:05Speaker 1: for Lma, you know what I mean, but in terms
- 16:07Speaker 1: of like nothing traditional, right, But you hear what I'm saying,
- 16:10Speaker 1: Like back in the day we have like you know,
- 16:12Speaker 1: even like Diddy and the Hitmen were. I do it
- 16:15Speaker 1: for myself, but with the time, I need to be
- 16:19Speaker 1: able to do it for other people, right right, you
- 16:21Speaker 1: know what I mean. I produce and write that for
- 16:23Speaker 1: myself because that's what I have time to do, right,
- 16:26Speaker 1: But now I have to, like you said, who's the
- 16:31Speaker 1: go to producer that can bring R and B at
- 16:36Speaker 1: least some of the nuances of traditional R and B
- 16:38Speaker 1: into twenty twenty two, twenty twenty three. That's what I do,
- 16:41Speaker 1: But I do it just for me. Hey, we got

- 17:37Speaker 1: fan of singer wives that are just that you just
- 17:40Speaker 1: just you know, obviously unaffiliated with your you and your
- 17:42Speaker 1: your crew, But like just someone who you you're just
- 17:44Speaker 1: a fan of singing, wise an artist that can sing.
- 17:48Speaker 1: I love h I love Lucky Day. You gotta love
- 17:52Speaker 1: Jazzmine Sullivan. She's amazing, great album to you. You gotta
- 17:56Speaker 1: love her. You gotta love Money Long. You gotta love
- 18:00Speaker 1: Kevin Ross, who needs way more flowers? Who needs way
- 18:04Speaker 1: more looks? You gotta love even some of the unsigned
- 18:09Speaker 1: acts who are out here going crazy. What's my guy,
- 18:17Speaker 1: Avery Wilson? You know, if you listen to that guy
- 18:20Speaker 1: saying like he's he should be he should really be
- 18:24Speaker 1: on the radio keeping the bar high, extremely high for
- 18:29Speaker 1: vocal ability. You know what I'm saying. Of course I'm
- 18:31Speaker 1: listening to Beyonce. She's She's beyond. Who's your R and B?
- 18:37Speaker 1: Mount Rushmore? If you have to choose the four rush
- 18:41Speaker 1: More the Mount h Yeah, Wow, you want to go deep.
- 18:49Speaker 1: That's what we're going. By the way, I'd like to
- 18:52Speaker 1: just point out the rules of this. Anything that happened
- 18:55Speaker 1: in their personal life out the window, move forward. I
- 18:59Speaker 1: know what I did, favorite tame Bro. I just want
- 19:02Speaker 1: to I just want to be clear that there's one
- 19:04Speaker 1: slot that should be Allocant, a really terrible guy, but
- 19:09Speaker 1: he deserves to be up there only. Okay, this is
- 19:15Speaker 1: a room only. So now with that being said, who
- 19:19Speaker 1: is your Mount Rushmore of R and B. Mount Rushmore
- 19:22Speaker 1: of R and B. Stupid Mount Rushmore of R and B.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Marvin Gay Okay, Beyonce O, Michael Jackson, Okay, just say
- 19:47Speaker 1: his name? Go ahead? Where is stead of why you whispering?
- 20:02Speaker 1: You know, just god, just say it. Kelly Kelly, Yeah, yeah,
- 20:11Speaker 1: art only. Obviously, I still listen. You know, it's crazy.
- 20:16Speaker 1: It's crazy because I love R. Kelly so much. Obviously
- 20:19Speaker 1: his music. I love his music. I'm like fucking hardcore
- 20:22Speaker 1: R Kelly fan. Yeah, I still get his ship off
- 20:24Speaker 1: at the end of the night when I'm dejaying, like
- 20:27Speaker 1: at the club and nobody says ship you drop that
- 20:30Speaker 1: fucking the morning I've been in the none of you
- 20:37Speaker 1: gonna say a few a bunch of clubs play step
- 20:40Speaker 1: in the name a little at your well. That was
- 20:42Speaker 1: that was actually a question asked, can we play R Kelly?
- 20:44Speaker 1: I said, yeah, just we're gonna be drinking anybody anybody
- 20:48Speaker 1: at that point time. I think I think everybody, you know,
- 20:51Speaker 1: everybody wants to be right in this conversation, right, and
- 20:55Speaker 1: I think I think everybody should be left to operate
- 20:59Speaker 1: or feel however they want to feel. You have so
- 21:01Speaker 1: many people that believe, hey, I just love the music,
- 21:04Speaker 1: and you're okay to believe that. You have some people
- 21:07Speaker 1: that feel like, oh, the music is is connected to
- 21:11Speaker 1: all of these bad things. You're allowed to believe that.
- 21:13Speaker 1: But condemning, condemning either side that side, we are so
- 21:17Speaker 1: extreme right now, that's not the We don't have to
- 21:20Speaker 1: agree on something. We don't have to agree. You can
- 21:22Speaker 1: have completely and you can make me exactly. Let's normalize,
- 21:27Speaker 1: have an opinions again in everything in a world. Yeah,
- 21:31Speaker 1: it's like yo, yo, You like during the pandemic you
- 21:33Speaker 1: kind of took a stance. I wouldn't say like a stance,
- 21:36Speaker 1: but you were very skeptical about some of the ship
- 21:38Speaker 1: that was going on. Rightfully, so, but I feel like
- 21:40Speaker 1: you kind of a lot of people were on your
- 21:41Speaker 1: fucking head about it early. Was that you, like just
- 21:44Speaker 1: in terms of like the vaccinations and the mask I mean, listen,
- 21:48Speaker 1: I'm just it's again what I'm saying, right, that's a
- 21:52Speaker 1: perfect example. And here's here's what's crazy. But let's let's
- 21:54Speaker 1: let's just speak a little bit I mean, they're probably
- 21:56Speaker 1: gonna put the CDC sign I guess on they moved
- 22:01Speaker 1: on the monkey. We're so we're looking for bumps. Now
- 22:06Speaker 1: we're we All of a sudden, the CDC puts out
- 22:10Speaker 1: a statement that says, oh, if you've had it, it's
- 22:14Speaker 1: the equivalent of having gotten the vaccine. Your your immunity
- 22:21Speaker 1: is just as powerful. Really, you you you you mean
- 22:26Speaker 1: to tell me, you the almighty c d C. You
- 22:29Speaker 1: just now figured that out. And when I said it
- 22:31Speaker 1: back in the beginning of all of this, I was stupid.
- 22:36Speaker 1: I was a conspiracy theorist. How dare you You can't
- 22:41Speaker 1: have free you can't think that way? How dare you ignorant?
- 22:45Speaker 1: People are dying? I said, I know people are also
- 22:51Speaker 1: living like me. I ain't gonna lie more scared of
- 22:55Speaker 1: the monkey pops than I was. If you're you're walking
- 23:00Speaker 1: around with monkey pops, you're fucking looking crazy. Yeah. No,
- 23:03Speaker 1: monkey pox all the stuff I've seen on it, that's different.
- 23:07Speaker 1: And I've had I've had chicken pox, chicken pox before
- 23:12Speaker 1: I was as a kid. I mean, that was this
- 23:13Speaker 1: monkey like man. They said, I'm the first one in
- 23:17Speaker 1: line soon as the vaccine here, I'm first getting the
- 23:21Speaker 1: monkey pox vaccine, the first one get to Johnson to
- 23:26Speaker 1: get a monkey pox vaccine, I don't want it. If
- 23:32Speaker 1: you get it, I get where you at. But I'm
- 23:34Speaker 1: already big and sweaty all the time. I can't be big,
- 23:37Speaker 1: sweaty with a bunch of bumps. So I gotta do this.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Make sweaty guys with bumps. You my god, you're not wrong.
- 23:49Speaker 1: I want you to feel comfortable. I want you to
- 23:52Speaker 1: feel safe. It was decided before I see no, no,
- 23:57Speaker 1: because I have to maintain my first statement, that's wrong.
- 24:01Speaker 1: You're not wrong. You're not wrong. It's dangerous, Oh yeah,
- 24:09Speaker 1: for sure. It's ugly. So that's why I'm care about
- 24:12Speaker 1: the vaccines of anything vac scene wise. I think they've
- 24:18Speaker 1: they've just ruled out that how resilient we are as
- 24:21Speaker 1: human beings, right, they've they've kind of ruled that out.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Now all of a sudden, our bodies and the things
- 24:27Speaker 1: within our bodies are no longer science only the vaccines
- 24:30Speaker 1: are only the man made things are. So I don't know, man,
- 24:33Speaker 1: it's just it's a tough conversation. Nobody's wrong. Do what
- 24:36Speaker 1: makes you feel safe? Exactly? What makes you happy? I
- 24:39Speaker 1: want to ask you, We're about twelve years or so
- 24:42Speaker 1: into like, uh, what I considered like a nice renaissance
- 24:46Speaker 1: in like R and B music becoming commercial again. And
- 24:51Speaker 1: I'm talking about when Frank Ocean in the Weekend came out,
- 24:57Speaker 1: they very much kind of kicked off a wave of
- 24:59Speaker 1: like influencing a whole new generation doing R and B
- 25:02Speaker 1: in their own way. Like at this point, like when
- 25:05Speaker 1: you hear The Weekend, who's obviously a fucking superstar, one
- 25:09Speaker 1: of my favorite artists, But like, do you kind of
- 25:11Speaker 1: put him in that R and B conversation at all?
- 25:13Speaker 1: Or is he kind of like transcended R and B
- 25:15Speaker 1: at this point? What do you like? Like, I think
- 25:18Speaker 1: that I think that the system has figured out a
- 25:25Speaker 1: way to make very successful artists who sing separate from
- 25:35Speaker 1: R and B or just the title for some reason. Right,
- 25:40Speaker 1: for all intentsive purposes, we can Bruno Mars, Frank Ocean,
- 25:50Speaker 1: these guys are R and B singers. The fact that
- 25:53Speaker 1: they're extremely popular, The fact that there may be a
- 25:57Speaker 1: different kind of rhythm or more upbeat or sonically it
- 26:01Speaker 1: may be more universal to the world. Right, the fact
- 26:07Speaker 1: that it's that doesn't kill the fact that it's R
- 26:12Speaker 1: and B music. Now we can we can add words
- 26:16Speaker 1: to it, Okay, R and B pop. Fine, it's very
- 26:20Speaker 1: popular R and B. Right, he's a very popular R
- 26:23Speaker 1: and B artist, right, But if you ask, but if
- 26:26Speaker 1: you ask these guys what they are and what they're doing,
- 26:29Speaker 1: R and B artists, R and B artists like change
- 26:33Speaker 1: the system has I's talked to Justin when he made this.
- 26:36Speaker 1: When you're doing the twenty twenty, he said, Man, I
- 26:38Speaker 1: made it. I was making an R and B album
- 26:40Speaker 1: and they just put me in a pop category. I'm
- 26:44Speaker 1: an R and Do you remember the Justin Bieber album
- 26:48Speaker 1: Journals that poo Bear produced and album. I mean that's
- 26:54Speaker 1: his best album and it's a traditional R and B album. Crazy,
- 26:58Speaker 1: No one ever talks about that album, but it it's
- 27:00Speaker 1: like it was straight R and B like Justin, Joel
- 27:03Speaker 1: Bear was in his bag, in his bag for sure. Vocally,
- 27:07Speaker 1: Kids sounded amazing. I think that kind of what what
- 27:11Speaker 1: you said on Drink Champs is so true though, Like
- 27:13Speaker 1: what you said about if a black artist does stay
- 27:16Speaker 1: with me like a Sam Smith record, it's it's not
- 27:20Speaker 1: for whatever reason. Like I really like when you when
- 27:22Speaker 1: you kind of articulated that it was very accurate. It
- 27:26Speaker 1: was like you like think of like a Lewis Capaldi,
- 27:29Speaker 1: you know what I mean, or some of these like
- 27:31Speaker 1: pop ballads. If if you did it, or if a
- 27:36Speaker 1: traditional R and B artist did it, it's not going
- 27:38Speaker 1: to get the same push, or it's not going to
- 27:40Speaker 1: be pushed at pop radio. We're not going to get
- 27:43Speaker 1: the look. Why do you think that is? We're black.
- 27:48Speaker 1: It's fine, Yeah, we're just not going to get the look.
- 27:51Speaker 1: You aren't going to take my CD and into uh
- 27:57Speaker 1: over there at the at the rhythmic station and say, hey, man,
- 28:00Speaker 1: I got this new tank song man and just yeah,
- 28:05Speaker 1: it doesn't really fit our demo. I don't And that
- 28:10Speaker 1: kind of goes like without even hearing the record. It's
- 28:13Speaker 1: almost like what you said earlier with that new radio format.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Now listen, if I if I give them, if I
- 28:21Speaker 1: give them a bunch of bitches and holes, now that's
- 28:27Speaker 1: gonna make us some money. Mm hmmmm, I see what's
- 28:30Speaker 1: going on? Got it? That's that's that's gonna get us
- 28:33Speaker 1: some money. You got anything like I don't know, like
- 28:37Speaker 1: the Migos or something like you got offset on a Verse,
- 28:40Speaker 1: You got offset on the verse. Oh yeah, perfect, that's
- 28:43Speaker 1: more our demo. Yeah, And I mean we can speak
- 28:48Speaker 1: to many reasons why that is, but we know what
- 28:52Speaker 1: we're up against. Yeah, so you know what I mean.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Are you still frustrated with it? Or do you just
- 28:56Speaker 1: find ways to overcome it? I don't even think about it.
- 28:58Speaker 1: That's that's the way to do it. Do you keep
- 28:59Speaker 1: your You're you're on a mission. I I I deal
- 29:02Speaker 1: with the people that I can touch. This album. You
- 29:05Speaker 1: got Chris Breezy on the album easy shout out to
- 29:08Speaker 1: Chris Breezy. Give Me Black to Tuxedo is amazing. Jay
- 29:11Speaker 1: Valentine your your partner on the R and B Money podcast.
- 29:17Speaker 1: If I'm throwing this thing in, yeah, give me the first.
- 29:20Speaker 1: If I can only listen to one record, what's the
- 29:22Speaker 1: one record I'm going to on this one? If you
- 29:24Speaker 1: had to pick one. I'm just saying like, let's say
- 29:27Speaker 1: let's say someone's listening and this is the first time
- 29:30Speaker 1: they've heard of Tank, they don't know who the They're
- 29:33Speaker 1: gonna open up Spotify and they're gonna be like, you
- 29:35Speaker 1: know what, I'm gonna check this Tank guy out. What's
- 29:38Speaker 1: the What's what's what's the record? You know your favorite
- 29:41Speaker 1: today because I'm sure tomorrow it's gonna change, maybe in
- 29:44Speaker 1: an hour. Absolutely, absolutely, I'm glad you said that. Hm,
- 29:55Speaker 1: when you dance, when you dance? Okay, track to track
- 29:59Speaker 1: to I'm just looking at some of these titles. Spoil
- 30:01Speaker 1: her alert? How much? Like? How do I spoil my
- 30:07Speaker 1: future wife? What do I need to do? Well? I
- 30:09Speaker 1: mean that's a conversation, right, So about that's the last
- 30:14Speaker 1: place we're going to. It starts with communication, right, right,
- 30:21Speaker 1: and that's what's communicated to you. So you have to
- 30:22Speaker 1: ask the right questions, right. And so in order to
- 30:26Speaker 1: spoil your spoil your woman, you have to be meeting
- 30:30Speaker 1: a need or or the needs right. And you have
- 30:33Speaker 1: to be you have to truly understand what those needs are.
- 30:36Speaker 1: That need is and they comes to it with time.
- 30:40Speaker 1: It's what she requires and for every woman that's completely different.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Like I'm very inquisitive, So I like to ask a
- 30:48Speaker 1: lot of questions, you know what I'm saying leading up
- 30:51Speaker 1: to whatever, before whatever. I like to be well versed
- 30:56Speaker 1: before before anything takes place. You know what I'm saying,
- 30:59Speaker 1: Before we sit down, eat, eat, eat a meal. You
- 31:02Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Before we go somewhere to a
- 31:04Speaker 1: theme park. You may hate roller coasters, Okay, that's not
- 31:07Speaker 1: what we do, right right, you know what I'm saying.
- 31:09Speaker 1: You may hate water parks, but then that's not what
- 31:11Speaker 1: we do. You love the beach though, Oh I can
- 31:14Speaker 1: take you with some sand is ye yeah, yeah, whatever
- 31:16Speaker 1: you want, whatever you tget. She hates hard liquor but
- 31:20Speaker 1: loves red wine. Got you, I'm a I'm a whatever.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Look up the best red wines they have to offer.
- 31:25Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like it's it's it's different.
- 31:28Speaker 1: She don't like to be pounded on. She likes to
- 31:30Speaker 1: be stroke slow there go there, Like you got to
- 31:32Speaker 1: ask these questions girls different, girls different. Don't treat it
- 31:35Speaker 1: like it's once one set up shot. It's not. It's
- 31:37Speaker 1: not one set of keys for every car there. Go
- 31:39Speaker 1: right up, Hey, that's the way to put it right there.
- 31:41Speaker 1: That's man, man yo, being married, being so busy, you
- 31:45Speaker 1: have so much going on. Give me some advice because
- 31:48Speaker 1: I struggle with this in my marriage where I'm just
- 31:51Speaker 1: I've just got like a million things happening. Work life balance,
- 31:54Speaker 1: like when it comes to like home to work, Like
- 31:56Speaker 1: how do you make sure you always have the time
- 31:58Speaker 1: carved out, and like, what are those things? Some tips
- 32:01Speaker 1: you could give somebody who's just got a lot of
- 32:02Speaker 1: shit going on but still wants to make sure that
- 32:04Speaker 1: they're very you know, active at home with the kids
- 32:06Speaker 1: and the wife, Well, you gotta, you gotta. You know,
- 32:09Speaker 1: it goes back to that conversation where you know you
- 32:13Speaker 1: you both understand that something's going to suffer. You know
- 32:16Speaker 1: what I'm saying, You're not going to be able to
- 32:18Speaker 1: make everything right, you know what I mean? Or you're
- 32:20Speaker 1: not going to be able to make this. You know
- 32:22Speaker 1: what I'm saying, which which, which fuels, which provides right?
- 32:26Speaker 1: And so within that you there is no balance. Let's
- 32:30Speaker 1: start there. But you do still time. You do still
- 32:34Speaker 1: moments like me and my wife have this, you know,
- 32:37Speaker 1: Wednesday's date night nice, you know what I'm saying. And
- 32:40Speaker 1: sometimes we shoot the pod on Wednesday. Sometimes we shoot
- 32:42Speaker 1: it on Tuesday. But if we shoot it on Wednesday,
- 32:44Speaker 1: you know, we'll do it one o'clock in a five
- 32:46Speaker 1: o'clock session. And she's like, Babe, you still want to
- 32:49Speaker 1: do day night like you damn, I don't want to
- 32:51Speaker 1: do day night. You're not gonna be on me as
- 32:53Speaker 1: the ends of the weekend. You ain't even spending no
- 32:56Speaker 1: time with and there no, no, we're doing this. We're
- 32:59Speaker 1: doing this. Was up seventy two hours to go on
- 33:01Speaker 1: to this line it up be up there like this,
- 33:04Speaker 1: But you're gonna be there. You're gonna be there. And
- 33:07Speaker 1: it's just it's just stealing those moments or purposely taking
- 33:12Speaker 1: that time, like doing it on purpose, you know what
- 33:15Speaker 1: I'm saying. Trying to plan ahead as much as possible,
- 33:18Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. There's always something that comes up.
- 33:21Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. Somebody call and be like this, Yeah,
- 33:23Speaker 1: I mean we got a hundred thousand if you come
- 33:25Speaker 1: home and do the thing. I'm like, Babe, listen, I
- 33:27Speaker 1: love the kids and I'd love to do art with them,
- 33:31Speaker 1: but you know that, honey, hate me calling. Maybe we
- 33:37Speaker 1: better art like I could send in the art school
- 33:40Speaker 1: with this, you know. So it's like and those are conversations,
- 33:44Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. It's it's two of you.
- 33:46Speaker 1: So that's where the teamwork comes in play. Babe, I
- 33:49Speaker 1: can't make it to this one. You got to be there,
- 33:51Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Okay, Babe, you know what
- 33:52Speaker 1: you take this one off. You know, when you are there,
- 33:54Speaker 1: you take that off, I'll take care of it. You know,
- 33:55Speaker 1: you take off to day, you put your feet up,
- 33:57Speaker 1: I'll do all the running around. You know. It's it.
- 34:00Speaker 1: It's just communication. There is no balance. And that's the
- 34:02Speaker 1: crazy thing. I had to It took me forever to
- 34:04Speaker 1: realize that we communicate differently. The way I communicate is
- 34:07Speaker 1: differently than her, So I had to learn how to
- 34:09Speaker 1: communicate with her and not just for myself. Yeah, So
- 34:12Speaker 1: that's that's helped everything. So I appreciate that. Like, women
- 34:16Speaker 1: are very detailed in terms of communicating that thing, and
- 34:18Speaker 1: we're very vague, all right, cool and nosy. Women are
- 34:21Speaker 1: very nosy. Oh, I know the whole partment is complex
- 34:24Speaker 1: business and everybody extremely but I mean women are built
- 34:27Speaker 1: built for information. Oh yeah, for five black women and
- 34:33Speaker 1: we'd be good and no problems. The more information you provide,
- 34:37Speaker 1: the better a woman can operate. As a woman just
- 34:41Speaker 1: wants to know she can make any kind of choice
- 34:43Speaker 1: from there, right, But the more information you give are
- 34:45Speaker 1: the easier she can she can make those adjustments. They're
- 34:48Speaker 1: they're resilient like that, right, resilient like that? What up?
- 34:51Speaker 1: We got to stop the interview real quick to tell
- 34:54Speaker 1: you about our good folks at blue Chew. Don't forget
- 34:56Speaker 1: man right now, you can get a whole month of
- 34:57Speaker 1: blue Chee for free. That's right, Fellas. You're dealing with
- 35:01Speaker 1: that erectile dysfunction. Maybe you're under some stress, some anxiety.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Maybe you're man ain't working the way supposed to. Listen,
- 35:10Speaker 1: blue Choo got you same active ingredients as viagra and sialis. Uh,
- 35:14Speaker 1: but it goes straight to your doorstep. Indiscrete packaging. No
- 35:18Speaker 1: doctor's appointments where you got to go show up to
- 35:20Speaker 1: the doctor's office and have some awkward conversation about why
- 35:22Speaker 1: you're cockaine up the bar. But no, sir, all online,
- 35:26Speaker 1: go to blue choo dot com use the promo code
- 35:29Speaker 1: boot Leg. That's blue Choo dot com promo code boot Leg.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Use the promo code for me. It helps us out,
- 35:38Speaker 1: all right, Go do that and tell me how your
- 35:40Speaker 1: dick is. I'll take DMS. Just don't send me a
- 35:41Speaker 1: picture of it because that will get your blocked bud tank.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Appreciate that you obviously have had an illustrious career in
- 35:48Speaker 1: which a lot of women enjoy you physically and musically,
- 35:55Speaker 1: can you give me a talk about his life? We
- 35:56Speaker 1: had a lot of women. I don't mean, I don't mean,
- 35:59Speaker 1: I'm out of and your your fucking a lot of
- 36:03Speaker 1: women almost you probably have half something woman looks like
- 36:12Speaker 1: fan interactions, right, whether it's like a crazy person. What
- 36:16Speaker 1: is the craziest like groupie situation, like where maybe someone
- 36:19Speaker 1: snuck in your hotel? So there's a woman in my room,
- 36:23Speaker 1: So what happens there? Tell? What city is this? What's
- 36:26Speaker 1: the details here? So show I don't I don't want
- 36:29Speaker 1: to say the city somewhere in Virginia state folk a
- 36:35Speaker 1: lot of places to go, but for the slow niggas,
- 36:39Speaker 1: I like, I don't know, I don't even know what
- 36:42Speaker 1: that's and don't do not ask me? How do you
- 36:48Speaker 1: check in your room? In my room? I go into
- 36:50Speaker 1: my room after the show? Okay, so I'd already checked
- 36:54Speaker 1: into the room. I go into my room after the show,
- 36:57Speaker 1: and there's you know, there's there's a woman that you
- 36:59Speaker 1: know she's just in the room. She's not just in
- 37:02Speaker 1: the rooms. Please, I'm sorry, I just wanted I just
- 37:07Speaker 1: wanted to have this moment with you, and I'm like,
- 37:11Speaker 1: how the fuck you get in here? Are you doing
- 37:13Speaker 1: it here? Did you kick her out? This is the
- 37:14Speaker 1: real question. After after some time you were like, you know,
- 37:21Speaker 1: I appreciate it, appreciate the I'm gonna give you that.
- 37:25Speaker 1: I just needed to communicate with her and understand how
- 37:28Speaker 1: all this transport. So once I got enough information from her, yeah,
- 37:33Speaker 1: she was allowed information, allowed to leave without interide information.
- 37:38Speaker 1: I like that information. That's good way putting it. I
- 37:41Speaker 1: was just getting information, babe. But you're just gathering intel.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Gathering intel. You said you like information, right, I want
- 37:46Speaker 1: to you know, you get to get to know her
- 37:51Speaker 1: and understand where she's coming from. How are you enjoying uh,
- 37:55Speaker 1: because you've always been a great interview when you go
- 37:57Speaker 1: on people's shows and ship like the podcasting side of
- 38:00Speaker 1: things is obviously something that I feel like you're made
- 38:03Speaker 1: for it. Naturally, it's been great just from the rip.
- 38:06Speaker 1: How are you enjoying doing the podcast? I love it.
- 38:08Speaker 1: I love it, and you know, I love what it
- 38:11Speaker 1: represents more so than anything. You know, It's it's an
- 38:14Speaker 1: R and B space completely dedicated to R and B
- 38:17Speaker 1: and we get to we get to talk it and
- 38:20Speaker 1: relive it and and give the game and share the information,
- 38:24Speaker 1: like you know, in a real way, and it's good
- 38:28Speaker 1: being on the other side of it, you know what
- 38:30Speaker 1: I mean. Like I've I've always wanted again to transition
- 38:34Speaker 1: into that space, Like I've always felt like I was
- 38:36Speaker 1: going to be, you know, in radio in some way,
- 38:39Speaker 1: shape or form. And then the podcast thing kind of
- 38:42Speaker 1: becomes a thing and then I'm like, oh, there it is.
- 38:45Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, there's a way that we
- 38:46Speaker 1: can do it and do it our way. And so
- 38:50Speaker 1: it was just, you know, the pandemic, you know, was
- 38:52Speaker 1: a blessing for us in disguise because that's where we
- 38:56Speaker 1: really started burning on the IG Live and it gave
- 39:00Speaker 1: us a real sense, you know, that we that we
- 39:02Speaker 1: had something and Kingsion recession proof, and so we start
- 39:09Speaker 1: doing it here in this space, and I'm like, let's
- 39:10Speaker 1: just let's just do it for real, Like let's call Jacob,
- 39:13Speaker 1: let's get the cameras up and this the people that
- 39:15Speaker 1: will come outside, Let's let's get him. And we get
- 39:18Speaker 1: a guy named Jamie Fox that decides he'll come outside,
- 39:20Speaker 1: and we're rocking and rolling and we're ten in the
- 39:22Speaker 1: can and he says, what you want to do. It's like,
- 39:25Speaker 1: what do you want to do. You know what I'm saying,
- 39:26Speaker 1: We're ready, I'll show you Doc shout out to Doc Winners.
- 39:29Speaker 1: And by the way, Doc Winners hates it when you
- 39:31Speaker 1: say Doc Winners, it's Doc Winter. Just want to put
- 39:34Speaker 1: that out because it's my first time hearing this too.
- 39:36Speaker 1: DJ called always say yo, Doc Winners, it's Doc Winter,
- 39:40Speaker 1: Doc Winter. Okay, you know what. I appreciate you right now.
- 39:45Speaker 1: He never correct. Back in the day, they used to
- 39:47Speaker 1: call it Joe Budden, Joe Buttens. Remember that I got you,
- 39:50Speaker 1: got you. Let's never make that mistake again, and shout
- 39:53Speaker 1: out to Doc Winter. And it just materialized from their
- 39:57Speaker 1: black effect, you know, and all the that and and
- 40:01Speaker 1: it just took off and we saw that this is
- 40:06Speaker 1: something that people didn't know they needed. It was a
- 40:08Speaker 1: niche that like, I'm surprised no one, like, how is
- 40:10Speaker 1: there not have been an R and B podcast this
- 40:11Speaker 1: whole time? Well, because what's the allure? Right, Because if
- 40:16Speaker 1: you're looking, you know, at the at the mainstream and
- 40:19Speaker 1: you were looking at the numbers, all the pods that
- 40:21Speaker 1: were doing well were just not about R and B,
- 40:23Speaker 1: you know, So people were doing doing more following than leading,
- 40:27Speaker 1: and so I say, hey, man, we're the leaders in
- 40:29Speaker 1: this space. We're not We're not has beens who are
- 40:32Speaker 1: going to talk about what we used to do. We
- 40:33Speaker 1: are actually doing something right now, like we are very
- 40:37Speaker 1: prevalent and relevant in this space. Who better than us
- 40:40Speaker 1: to have this conversation right? And it made sense. And
- 40:44Speaker 1: so you had Jamie Fox on is he working on
- 40:47Speaker 1: some new music? It's been so so long. Jamie Fox
- 40:50Speaker 1: is making a lot of money, a lot a lot
- 40:54Speaker 1: a lot of money doing movies. He just did the
- 40:56Speaker 1: new movie A Snoop. He's got the new one out,
- 40:59Speaker 1: is it Daylight? It was good? Yeah, watch it. I
- 41:03Speaker 1: gotta go see Daylight. I mean, you know, he's Jamie
- 41:05Speaker 1: is just Jamie can do anything. You know, I would
- 41:09Speaker 1: say raw talent. It's either Chris Brown or Jamie Fox
- 41:12Speaker 1: in the last like twenty five years talking about every
- 41:14Speaker 1: just raw talent, but every Yeah, I would give it
- 41:16Speaker 1: to Jamie Fox. Jamie can't dance like Chris, and Jamie
- 41:20Speaker 1: can't paint a mural on the side of the house
- 41:21Speaker 1: like Chris can. They each can do things. Jamie is
- 41:23Speaker 1: probably the greatest entertainer of all times. I'm trying to
- 41:26Speaker 1: for sure I'm not bad at that, but into what
- 41:29Speaker 1: what you're saying. You know what I'm saying. Musically, I
- 41:31Speaker 1: mean raw talent. Chris Brown can dance, he can paint
- 41:36Speaker 1: Chris and Jamie can do stand up, he can sing
- 41:39Speaker 1: his ass off, he can act. And I say that
- 41:41Speaker 1: Jamie can do ballet and he could do Jamie Fox
- 41:45Speaker 1: can do I've seen Jamie Fox do like a I
- 41:49Speaker 1: don't know what what was the name of Jamie's first
- 41:50Speaker 1: stand up was? I mean, I might need security, might
- 41:52Speaker 1: need security. He ain't got no new ones coming in
- 41:56Speaker 1: that month, and the fucking R and B album, the
- 41:58Speaker 1: first one unpredictable. No, no no, that's not the first one.
- 42:00Speaker 1: What was the you did the one, the one that
- 42:02Speaker 1: had one, that's the one that went crazy. But the
- 42:04Speaker 1: first one was, uh, it had infatuation on it. Just
- 42:09Speaker 1: FATU remember that. I can know you. You were babies,
- 42:14Speaker 1: You were babies. Yeah, he had an album before that.
- 42:16Speaker 1: I just remember Frenchie from the Jamie Fox Show was
- 42:18Speaker 1: always in the spank bank when I was a kid.
- 42:22Speaker 1: You remember Frenchy from the Jamie Fox as well. She
- 42:25Speaker 1: was a Francy French or whatever, the girl in the
- 42:28Speaker 1: hotel on the show spank bank. It's like, Gabriel, we
- 42:32Speaker 1: all got a spank bank. You know. When I was
- 42:33Speaker 1: a kid, it was j Lo, it was Vita Gera.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Oh shoot, you mean in your in your rolodex of
- 42:39Speaker 1: of of thoughts that you would go through to find
- 42:43Speaker 1: that place. I thought there was an actual spank bank
- 42:45Speaker 1: where they were pictured, Like what the uber the real quick?
- 42:49Speaker 1: Where is the space? How much money can I pull out?
- 42:52Speaker 1: Because because I was a poor, no kind of sewer,
- 42:55Speaker 1: so you say spank bank, like I would actually go
- 42:58Speaker 1: and audit. Connoisseur. We're gonna end the interview with this.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Let's go right back. Let's go right back. Let's go
- 43:07Speaker 1: right back to the Mount Rushmore conversation. Let's let's move it.
- 43:12Speaker 1: We got the R and B one sorted. Now, let's
- 43:16Speaker 1: go to the porn on Mount Rushmore. Who's the top
- 43:19Speaker 1: four erotic cinema stars of all time? Yeah? He said
- 43:26Speaker 1: he's a connoisseur. Oh man, I've forgotten some of these names.
- 43:29Speaker 1: No you haven't. I have, honestly, just to the ones
- 43:33Speaker 1: you remember, oh man, back in the day. And we
- 43:37Speaker 1: I mean, we gotta, we gotta go with the Heather Hunter.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Heather Hunter was g o g Vanessa del Rio, Yeah,
- 43:45Speaker 1: help help. Really, Heather Hunter was like one of the
- 43:48Speaker 1: first like black women who popped like like commercially in
- 43:52Speaker 1: the I just didn't know. Yeah, there was another young lady.
- 43:56Speaker 1: She was just like skin with green eyes. Uh had
- 44:01Speaker 1: a different kind of name. Uh, I'm like the bank
- 44:08Speaker 1: early bang bus era. What was her name, obsession? Her
- 44:12Speaker 1: name was Obsession, Yeah, Obsessions. She was serious, so serious.
- 44:19Speaker 1: And then you got it. I mean you kind of
- 44:27Speaker 1: you kind of gotta throw Jada Fire in there. Jada
- 44:30Speaker 1: Fire is a legend as well. You fucked me up.
- 44:32Speaker 1: I was so happy. I didn't know none of these
- 44:34Speaker 1: people you were talking about to you, said Jada Fire,
- 44:36Speaker 1: I didn't know. You kind of gotta go. You gotta
- 44:39Speaker 1: go Jada Fire in there. You know that you're like
- 44:42Speaker 1: a connoisseur when you run into the male porn stars
- 44:45Speaker 1: in public and you're like, yeah, I know you. I
- 44:48Speaker 1: used to hang out with mister Marcus, mister Marcus listen.
- 44:52Speaker 1: I met uh uh, Brian Pumper. I met Brian Pumper
- 45:01Speaker 1: on the flight on his way to LA to try
- 45:04Speaker 1: and be somebody. Oh did he have his Brian Pumper
- 45:08Speaker 1: jewels on? This is how it starts okay, okay, this
- 45:12Speaker 1: story is hilarious. I'm on the plane flying from New York.
- 45:19Speaker 1: The plane is pretty much empty, so I'm in a
- 45:21Speaker 1: coach seat in the back. Nobody around me. I got
- 45:24Speaker 1: a full row. Everybody kind of like it's a full row.
- 45:27Speaker 1: I'm laid back. I'm about to go to sleep. Brian
- 45:31Speaker 1: Pumper was I don't think he introduced it. It It was
- 45:34Speaker 1: wasn't Brian Pumper at the time, but nobody knew him.
- 45:37Speaker 1: It wasn't anybody. He's like, he comes over to my rosie. Hey, man,
- 45:41Speaker 1: I just wanted to say, man, big fan. You know
- 45:42Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I love you music, man. She want
- 45:44Speaker 1: to introduce myself to you. Man, I'm Brian what everything
- 45:47Speaker 1: was right? He's like, man, you know I love your music. Man,
- 45:49Speaker 1: I'm actually going to la myself to you know, to
- 45:52Speaker 1: trying to hand it music. You know what I'm saying.
- 45:55Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, that's dope, man, Well congratulations. And
- 45:57Speaker 1: one thing about me, I'll talk to anybody, a conversation
- 46:00Speaker 1: with anybody like I don't I don't care you know
- 46:01Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And so he's like, yeah, man, just
- 46:03Speaker 1: trying to my hand in music. You know, I rap,
- 46:05Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. I was like, oh you rap?
- 46:07Speaker 1: He said, yeah, I rap? And I you know, I'm
- 46:08Speaker 1: kind of trying to do the porn on things as well.
- 46:10Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, yeah, get to it, get to it. Yeah,
- 46:12Speaker 1: use your gifts, right, And he was like, you know,
- 46:15Speaker 1: but on my wrap side, I feel like that, you know,
- 46:17Speaker 1: there's a there's a there's something missing, you know what
- 46:19Speaker 1: I'm saying. I feel like that I could be part
- 46:20Speaker 1: of a crew. I'm like, what what crew do you
- 46:22Speaker 1: think you're part of? He said, I feel like I
- 46:24Speaker 1: can be part of cash Money and I and I
- 46:26Speaker 1: looked at him. I was like, I don't think so.
- 46:29Speaker 1: I don't think so. Like I was brutally honest, I
- 46:33Speaker 1: don't think so. He's like, he's He's like, I think
- 46:35Speaker 1: I can. I said, what do you mean saying? He said, like,
- 46:39Speaker 1: my name is will Be bling Man. You know I'm
- 46:44Speaker 1: telling you the honest of God truth. I'm telling you honest.
- 46:46Speaker 1: He said, my name is bling Man, right, Like you
- 46:48Speaker 1: know how you got how you got the Little Wang song?
- 46:51Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. Every time I comment around
- 46:54Speaker 1: in that town, bling blink, I'll just adopt that, and
- 46:56Speaker 1: that'll and that'll be me. Like, and I got some writing.
- 46:58Speaker 1: You want to hear some of my hooks? I said, sure, sure,
- 47:02Speaker 1: bling man, right, I promise you. He runs off about
- 47:08Speaker 1: a hundred hooks, and and I was honest with him,
- 47:13Speaker 1: and I said, I said, I said, those are trash
- 47:16Speaker 1: those are trashy hooks. You let him say a hundred hooks.
- 47:19Speaker 1: It's a flight, it's a flight. I mean we were
- 47:22Speaker 1: talking and and I was like, genuinely interested. You know
- 47:25Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Like you, bling man, it's a horrible idea.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Sounds like a w w F carrot. It works, right,
- 47:32Speaker 1: So he's playing me one of I'm like, Nope, that's
- 47:34Speaker 1: not it, But what do you think? And he's arguing
- 47:36Speaker 1: with me about how why it'll worked and how and
- 47:37Speaker 1: why it should work. And then I'm like, bro, that's
- 47:40Speaker 1: not it, Like you need to take your time and
- 47:41Speaker 1: do such and such, like if you really, I said,
- 47:43Speaker 1: you in a second, you can't wait. Fact jury, that's
- 47:45Speaker 1: fake Jerry. You know pumper jewels. Yeah, I said, that's fake, Jery.
- 47:48Speaker 1: You have on you can't do that. Two years ago,
- 47:50Speaker 1: me and my wife are going to a boba donut place.
- 47:53Speaker 1: You know, they're all over the valley, the little donut spots.
- 47:54Speaker 1: You know, I'm in line to get a fucking donut.
- 47:57Speaker 1: Brian pumpers in front of me. I tell my, I say,
- 48:00Speaker 1: you know that is She said, nah, it's like it's
- 48:02Speaker 1: Brian Pumper. She's like, I was like some male porn star.
- 48:05Speaker 1: So then she realizes who the fuck did I married
- 48:07Speaker 1: and knows what public So I'm like, yo, Brian Pumper
- 48:12Speaker 1: was good. You know, he had lugs on, fucking you
- 48:14Speaker 1: know fu. Yeah, So he gets his donut and ship
- 48:18Speaker 1: and I watched him walk outside of the donut spot
- 48:21Speaker 1: and hop into a two thousand Nissan Sentra that looked
- 48:25Speaker 1: like it had just gotten four wheeling in the mud,
- 48:28Speaker 1: and it looked like every possession in his entire life
- 48:30Speaker 1: since he was ten years old was stuffed into this
- 48:33Speaker 1: fucking car. And I was like, oh, Brian Bumper's down bad.
- 48:40Speaker 1: I think he was on. I think he was onto
- 48:42Speaker 1: something right because I feel like, I mean, he turned
- 48:45Speaker 1: out Lawrence Fitzburns's daughter, but I felt like he was
- 48:48Speaker 1: one of the I think he was one of the
- 48:50Speaker 1: first guys, at least black guys, to like be on
- 48:53Speaker 1: some like independent right type, you know what I'm saying,
- 48:56Speaker 1: where like I'm going to do my own thing, my
- 48:58Speaker 1: own distribution, and create my own line and get my
- 49:01Speaker 1: own He was. He was really trying to, you know,
- 49:05Speaker 1: do this independent thing. And and I think that sometimes
- 49:10Speaker 1: when you try to work against the system, you know
- 49:12Speaker 1: what I'm saying, The system has a way of of
- 49:15Speaker 1: shutting you down, you know what I'm saying. And I
- 49:17Speaker 1: think he'd be thriving during only fans times. I think
- 49:20Speaker 1: that's I think that, Oh yeah, I think that that
- 49:22Speaker 1: that Aids thing that came out, that rumored that came
- 49:25Speaker 1: out on him. You know what I'm saying, Like, I
- 49:26Speaker 1: don't I don't think those things that ruined him and Pinky,
- 49:29Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't think those things that happened,
- 49:32Speaker 1: or those rumors getting out there. I don't think that's,
- 49:34Speaker 1: you know, on accident. No, I think it's acidental. Listen,
- 49:37Speaker 1: we got to wrap up because Dwight's about to have
- 49:39Speaker 1: a right Dwight is fine. Okay, you don't have Dwight
- 49:42Speaker 1: move this season six times to get you. He hadads earlier.
- 49:47Speaker 1: We got to go to the next pace. You can't
- 49:52Speaker 1: by yourself give me some of the You've got the
- 49:56Speaker 1: right ship on you. The new album is out R
- 49:59Speaker 1: and B Money and Be Money Man. Listen, and I'm
- 50:01Speaker 1: trying to educate people. Buy the album. Go to iTunes
- 50:07Speaker 1: and buy the album unless you're going to stream these
- 50:12Speaker 1: songs two thousand and five hundred and fifty times. Yep,
- 50:17Speaker 1: I need you to buy the album. The number I
- 50:21Speaker 1: just said is not a fake number. It's the real
