- 0:00Speaker 1: Eight oh seven thirteen ten Wiba Madison in the morning
- 0:06Speaker 1: and asked the experts, there's what I was looking for.
- 0:09Speaker 1: The heat is on, Oh, the heat maybe off. Either way,
- 0:12Speaker 1: it's been a little bit warm. We're checking in this
- 0:14Speaker 1: morning with our good friend Andrew Larson. Of course, Andrew
- 0:17Speaker 1: comes to us from Larsen Home Services. The website Larsenhomeservices
- 0:21Speaker 1: dot com. That's l A R. S O N Home
- 0:26Speaker 1: Services dot com. They're twelve number six, so eight five
- 0:28Speaker 1: three five forty three forty three. That's five three five
- 0:32Speaker 1: forty three forty three. And Andrew as weird as as weather.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Maybe there are some benefits to these slightly warmer temperatures.
- 0:40Speaker 1: How you doing, And let's talk about some of the
- 0:42Speaker 1: benefits to this time of year with the with the
- 0:45Speaker 1: warmer temperatures.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Just like took me back to like, I don't know,
- 0:48Speaker 2: nineteen eighty nine, with like a spiked hair and a
- 0:50Speaker 2: bullet and girls wearing lots of hair spray spiking bangs.
- 0:54Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember, though, those are good times, fond memories
- 0:58Speaker 1: of those days.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Tight roll the dancing type look you know, yes, yes,
- 1:04Speaker 2: good stuff, good stuff. Yeah. So this morning, there's a
- 1:08Speaker 2: lot of warmer temperatures. It feels it feels wonderful. It's
- 1:13Speaker 2: so odd. Last week was like imminent death and now
- 1:18Speaker 2: it's like, wait, what in the world is going on?
- 1:21Speaker 2: But what I want to talk about specifically was roof
- 1:25Speaker 2: restore and it's something that we promote a lot. It
- 1:28Speaker 2: is different than a roof repair. A roof repair is,
- 1:31Speaker 2: in my mind, is just a quick fix. It's you know,
- 1:34Speaker 2: I got a leaky pipe boot, let's just replace that
- 1:36Speaker 2: pipe boot. When we know that when your roof was done,
- 1:39Speaker 2: all of those pipe boots and all of those flashings
- 1:41Speaker 2: were done at the same time, So it's time to
- 1:43Speaker 2: restore and take a look at everything so we can
- 1:46Speaker 2: get many more years out of a roof. So this
- 1:49Speaker 2: weekend we received six calls for our rapid response team.
- 1:56Speaker 2: And if people not first time listening or have heard before,
- 1:59Speaker 2: but we have a rapid response team and if you
- 2:02Speaker 2: have a leak, we typically not all ours. This is
- 2:06Speaker 2: something we're still building out, but we've been pretty good
- 2:09Speaker 2: at it. A leak in your roof, we have usually
- 2:13Speaker 2: have team members that are ready to go. They can
- 2:15Speaker 2: get over there and make a temporary, temporary fix. Until
- 2:20Speaker 2: we can get an estimator over there to do a
- 2:22Speaker 2: true inspection and come up with a more permanent fix.
- 2:26Speaker 2: So this weekend we had five or six calls for
- 2:29Speaker 2: rapid response and a few more for leaks, which is
- 2:34Speaker 2: odd because well, there's no snow on anyone's roof, and
- 2:39Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure it didn't rain. So what's going on. Well,
- 2:43Speaker 2: we have a leak in our roof, We've got a
- 2:45Speaker 2: spot on our ceiling. You know where I'm going. But
- 2:49Speaker 2: with all of those cold temperatures, nobody was going outside.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Everybody was staying inside. Furnaces were running a lot more
- 2:58Speaker 2: than they typically would. I don't care. You know what
- 3:02Speaker 2: type of insulation you have. Obviously, if you've got an
- 3:04Speaker 2: ultimate addic solution from us your furnace, you're gonna lose
- 3:07Speaker 2: less heat because there's just no better way to do it.
- 3:10Speaker 2: But no matter what, your furnace is running more, you're
- 3:12Speaker 2: staying inside. You're probably doing more cooking inside. I mean,
- 3:16Speaker 2: who even wants to go to eat when it's that cold.
- 3:19Speaker 2: You don't want to leave the house. It's like it's
- 3:21Speaker 2: house to car, car to work, work, the car, car
- 3:24Speaker 2: to house. Well I got that right on the first try,
- 3:26Speaker 2: but more cooking, more heating. So what are we doing.
- 3:30Speaker 2: We're putting more moisture into the attic, and there's really
- 3:33Speaker 2: drastic dew point temperature differences in the attic. So you've
- 3:37Speaker 2: got warm moist air from the inside of the house
- 3:40Speaker 2: getting up into that attic and it's freezing, freezing, freezing cold.
- 3:45Speaker 2: That water is going to condense. It's gonna, first of all,
- 3:49Speaker 2: it's gonna freeze on the undersiding over your decking if
- 3:51Speaker 2: we don't even if we have adequate ventilation. Honestly, when
- 3:55Speaker 2: it's that cold and you've got that much of that
- 4:01Speaker 2: much of a temperature change, it doesn't really matter. Ventilation
- 4:04Speaker 2: is extremely important, but it's really what's more important in
- 4:07Speaker 2: those instances is air ceiling. So one of our reps
- 4:10Speaker 2: went out to a home and they were certain they
- 4:12Speaker 2: had a roof leak, and we knew it wasn't a
- 4:15Speaker 2: roof leak because there's no there's no moisture coming from
- 4:18Speaker 2: the sky, right, and so we just put put a
- 4:22Speaker 2: video out on social media, and so I believe it's
- 4:25Speaker 2: on our Facebook account and all that stuff. But he
- 4:28Speaker 2: took a video and it was legitimately snowing in the
- 4:34Speaker 2: snowstorm in there. The moisture from the inside of the
- 4:37Speaker 2: house was condensing and freezing so rapidly, and air was
- 4:42Speaker 2: moving up from the ventilation so quickly because it was
- 4:46Speaker 2: blowing that it was like a snow globe in their attic.
- 4:49Speaker 2: It was one of the craziest things I've ever seen.
- 4:53Speaker 2: And obviously it had nothing to do with nothing to
- 4:58Speaker 2: do with their roof whatsoever. It was one hundred percent
- 5:01Speaker 2: the lack of air ceiling, because that ventilation was actually
- 5:05Speaker 2: making it more snow globe. Bish. If we should say
- 5:08Speaker 2: it's that's I don't even know if that's a word shown,
- 5:10Speaker 2: but people can picture it is right, Yes, yes, it
- 5:14Speaker 2: stuff white snow moving all over the place. And then
- 5:16Speaker 2: that white snow is then falling down onto the insulation
- 5:19Speaker 2: and there's every bit of insult every insulation. Our insulation
- 5:23Speaker 2: all addicts has dips and valleys like it's never perfect.
- 5:26Speaker 2: And then it sits in a low area and it
- 5:28Speaker 2: sits there, and now it's closer to to our condition space,
- 5:32Speaker 2: which is going to be warmer because we don't have
- 5:34Speaker 2: any air ceiling, that warm air is moving up through
- 5:37Speaker 2: there even easier. Now it's fine, and it's happening over
- 5:41Speaker 2: and over and over and over and over, and then
- 5:42Speaker 2: you look up one day and you go, oh, no,
- 5:45Speaker 2: we have a roof leak, when we really don't. All
- 5:48Speaker 2: we have is improper or lack of air ceiling. And
- 5:53Speaker 2: I say improper because even if we have air ceiling,
- 5:57Speaker 2: if it's not done correctly, can actually make the problem
- 6:00Speaker 2: worse because now we have all of the warm air,
- 6:04Speaker 2: warm moist air going through one small area instead of
- 6:08Speaker 2: being spread across the entire attic. So we do get
- 6:13Speaker 2: legitimate calls for roof restores now more in our northern
- 6:16Speaker 2: territory because we just we just haven't had any snow here,
- 6:20Speaker 2: or we haven't really had any rain, so we really
- 6:22Speaker 2: know that it's not a roof leak. So while it's
- 6:26Speaker 2: fun to get, I shouldn't say it's fun. It is
- 6:29Speaker 2: fun to be able to go to somebody's house when
- 6:31Speaker 2: they think they have one problem and then tell them
- 6:33Speaker 2: what it really is. Because there's a lot of contractors
- 6:37Speaker 2: out there, roofing contractors especially, that don't understand how a
- 6:41Speaker 2: home works, how it's heated, how it's cooled, how we
- 6:44Speaker 2: lose energy gain energy. They don't understand that, so they
- 6:47Speaker 2: wouldn't know where to look, and they would automatically look
- 6:50Speaker 2: for a leak above where they see a spot in
- 6:53Speaker 2: the ceilings, and now we're going to end up paying
- 6:55Speaker 2: for something that doesn't fix anything.
- 6:57Speaker 1: It's pretty dramatic as well, and I hope folks get
- 6:59Speaker 1: a chance of not following Larsen Home Services on Facebook
- 7:02Speaker 1: and social media. Make sure you do that and definitely
- 7:05Speaker 1: head on over to their social media sites today because
- 7:08Speaker 1: the video is quite dramatic. It literally looks like like
- 7:11Speaker 1: you'd see in the Arctic with these with these trusses,
- 7:14Speaker 1: and there's almost like stalag types or slagmites, I forget
- 7:17Speaker 1: what those are, of frozen snow and kind of a
- 7:21Speaker 1: snow globe effect coming down from the and this is
- 7:24Speaker 1: somebody's attic, and Andrew, if folks are experiencing this stuff,
- 7:29Speaker 1: and obviously we want to call right away. Maybe folks
- 7:32Speaker 1: have questions as well, could this happen to me? What
- 7:34Speaker 1: is going on with my roof? One of the great
- 7:36Speaker 1: things about calling Larsen Home Services is your guys will
- 7:39Speaker 1: actually take the time to look at what's going on
- 7:42Speaker 1: and see exactly if there are any problems in somebody's
- 7:45Speaker 1: attic space. Or on their roof.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's exactly what we're here for. So if
- 7:51Speaker 2: anybody's wondering what is my installation like, especially if your
- 7:57Speaker 2: home is more than twenty years old, if you haven't
- 7:59Speaker 2: had insulation work or home performance work ever done, the
- 8:03Speaker 2: chances of your attic being air sealed are very, very
- 8:06Speaker 2: very slim. It's a lot more common now. A lot
- 8:10Speaker 2: of builders have become more in tune to you know,
- 8:13Speaker 2: energy star ratings, using better windows, better insulation, actually air
- 8:17Speaker 2: ceiling everything. It's it's become it's become very common because
- 8:22Speaker 2: we now understand just how important it is. We understand
- 8:25Speaker 2: that insulation in most most most cases is actually more
- 8:29Speaker 2: important than than the than the insulation. So we know
- 8:34Speaker 2: that the insulation is really, really, really important in the
- 8:37Speaker 2: summer because our attic gets to be one hundred and
- 8:39Speaker 2: twenty hundred and thirty hundred and forty degrees and our
- 8:42Speaker 2: ceiling turns into a radiant heater and heats the rest
- 8:46Speaker 2: of our house. And we know in the winter we
- 8:49Speaker 2: want to stop that warm air from rising, and the
- 8:51Speaker 2: best way to do that as air ceiling. So, if
- 8:52Speaker 2: your home is more than twenty years old and you
- 8:55Speaker 2: don't know it's probably a good idea to get it
- 8:58Speaker 2: checked out. And you know, our our estimators can show
- 9:01Speaker 2: you where you're losing the heat, how you're losing the heat.
- 9:03Speaker 2: They come in with tools to show you exactly what's happening,
- 9:07Speaker 2: and then they show you exactly how to fix it
- 9:09Speaker 2: and make your home more comfortable. Where we make our
- 9:12Speaker 2: home warmer and the warmer in the winter, cooler in
- 9:14Speaker 2: the summer, and you know, just an awesome side effect
- 9:18Speaker 2: of that is we save energy.
- 9:20Speaker 1: One of the nice things too, is is because they
- 9:22Speaker 1: do such a great job of doing that, doing that inspection,
- 9:26Speaker 1: there's no pressures. You'll see as a homeowner, you'll see
- 9:28Speaker 1: exactly what's going on and then you can make that
- 9:30Speaker 1: decision about what's right for your home. And that's a
- 9:33Speaker 1: great thing about working with Larsen Home Services. They don't
- 9:36Speaker 1: need to apply pressure why because they give you the
- 9:38Speaker 1: facts and you as a homeowner, you got any questions,
- 9:40Speaker 1: they're their answer for you and you get to make
- 9:42Speaker 1: that determination. All I got to do this morning is
- 9:44Speaker 1: pick up phone, gimme call six oh eight five three
- 9:46Speaker 1: five forty three forty three. That's five three five four
- 9:50Speaker 1: three four three for Larsen Home Services the website Larsenhome
- 9:53Speaker 1: Services dot com. That's l A R s o N
- 9:57Speaker 1: Home Services dot com. Don't forget to check them out
- 9:59Speaker 1: and Facebook and social media. Check out that video too.
- 10:02Speaker 1: It is very, very dramatic. Andrew did a great job
- 10:04Speaker 1: describing it, but it's one of those things too you
- 10:07Speaker 1: really want to see in person. Make sure you follow
- 10:09Speaker 1: lur snome Services on social media. Andrew, it's always great
- 10:12Speaker 1: talking with you. Enjoy this beautiful day and I know
