- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome to another episode of Not Another Football Podcast with myself,
- 0:08Speaker 1: Simon Darnley and Jackie, Mike and Marat and we're delighted
- 0:12Speaker 1: to welcome our next guest actor, writer and teammate, which
- 0:17Speaker 1: we'll talk about later, Scott Kel. Hello, guys, said, thanks
- 0:20Speaker 1: for having me. I'm very well, thank you, thanks for
- 0:22Speaker 1: having me. Was life it's going really well. Hi, busy, busy, busy,
- 0:26Speaker 1: loads of stuff projects can acting wise, which is always great,
- 0:29Speaker 1: and the personal life's pandemonium. And also it's so i'll
- 0:32Speaker 1: goough hours in the day. Unfortunately, what you your book,
- 0:35Speaker 1: because obviously you've been promoting that and I was lucky
- 0:40Speaker 1: enough to come here show at the front. Did the
- 0:44Speaker 1: book's going really well? So that the book was published
- 0:46Speaker 1: in August, So I'll get the shameless plug in. It's
- 0:48Speaker 1: called It's no you start, It's my journey if we've
- 0:50Speaker 1: been forced a care as a wee boy to come
- 0:52Speaker 1: in a foster care of four years later, and how
- 0:53Speaker 1: I almost turned down the chance to work with Housing Forward,
- 0:56Speaker 1: which means I did get what it has for near
- 0:58Speaker 1: a door of the book. So yeah, that the book
- 1:00Speaker 1: was published in August at the fringe, and I kind
- 1:02Speaker 1: of started off trying to promote at the Fringe. In
- 1:05Speaker 1: April this year, we did a reprint, which I don't
- 1:07Speaker 1: know anything about books because this is the first time
- 1:08Speaker 1: ever done a book. Took me five years today, but
- 1:10Speaker 1: they say that the lifespan of book. If most books
- 1:14Speaker 1: don't get reprinted, they kind of go into the shows
- 1:16Speaker 1: to sit there and then a new book comes along
- 1:17Speaker 1: and they just fizzle away. So after eight months were reprinted,
- 1:21Speaker 1: very exciting, and there's an updated edition of the book
- 1:24Speaker 1: coming out in July, so it's going to have three
- 1:26Speaker 1: prints and it's lifetime ready and it's only a year old,
- 1:29Speaker 1: so that's very exciting. So but there's a lot of
- 1:30Speaker 1: hard grafting it, you know, like I'm in a shop
- 1:32Speaker 1: and set on most weekends saying Hi, yeah, I got
- 1:34Speaker 1: a couple of minutes. You'd be spotted. He spotted. I
- 1:36Speaker 1: think my niece spotted. Well, well we hit your face
- 1:41Speaker 1: on the van and I know that your niece and
- 1:43Speaker 1: that would see the van with the postals and posts
- 1:46Speaker 1: in Glasgow. Now, the show was really good, so if
- 1:50Speaker 1: you get plans to do that so as well the tour.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Obviously with the singing I'm no ability, He's a ti
- 1:56Speaker 1: kind of thing. You d on the show sign you
- 1:58Speaker 1: should know the title the show. It has been shocked Bill.
- 2:03Speaker 1: But yeah, but you had one man show, you get
- 2:05Speaker 1: plans to do that. So the the kind of Spoken
- 2:07Speaker 1: World event kind of was basically it was a vehicle
- 2:10Speaker 1: for the the book sales, to be honest and and
- 2:13Speaker 1: it was kind of marketing. Employee was if I thought,
- 2:15Speaker 1: if I'd do a forty venue tour, that's forty theaters
- 2:18Speaker 1: showcasing my book and the spoken Word thing. Probably not
- 2:21Speaker 1: that many people might even come and see the show,
- 2:22Speaker 1: but it's the advertiser I was thinking. But but so
- 2:26Speaker 1: the book's doing better than I probably thought. The Spoken
- 2:28Speaker 1: Word tours into the into the UKs within in England
- 2:31Speaker 1: and stuff like that. Ds have been taken for it,
- 2:34Speaker 1: and and I'm working on a stage version of my life.
- 2:37Speaker 1: So the idea is that we could have maybe three
- 2:40Speaker 1: actors that could tell the story and pley all the
- 2:41Speaker 1: different characters within it. Iron there's a wee chat that
- 2:44Speaker 1: I'm kind of chat to. Cora Bursitted offered the director,
- 2:47Speaker 1: and she's very very highly acclaimed director. So when Olivia
- 2:51Speaker 1: Awards and stuff, Cora Nicola McCartney's a play right for
- 2:55Speaker 1: the National Theater and one countss wats she offered to
- 2:57Speaker 1: write it when she's seen it at the fringe. So
- 3:00Speaker 1: I would meeting with the team about how we would
- 3:02Speaker 1: take that forward, and I was They were kind of saying,
- 3:06Speaker 1: do you see yourself playing it? And I says, look,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I don't want to mess it up. I'm happy to know.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I'm happy to even they produce it if you just
- 3:11Speaker 1: hand it over to somebody else, and they say, no,
- 3:13Speaker 1: we think it's important your voices in it, which was
- 3:15Speaker 1: quite nice. It was kind of gone, I'm all right
- 3:16Speaker 1: if gee, some other young boy a chance to play me.
- 3:20Speaker 1: But now they were quite set on meeting it. So
- 3:22Speaker 1: so that's there's a lot of melting pot of a
- 3:24Speaker 1: lot of stuff going on in there. And obviously Billy
- 3:25Speaker 1: Timmy mentioned there's on the tour as well, and I'm
- 3:28Speaker 1: plugging the book all the shows, so so I so
- 3:32Speaker 1: it's gonna all feeds in each other because the story
- 3:35Speaker 1: is all feed into one another. Yeah, it's all of
- 3:37Speaker 1: developing as well, because obviously doing that show with you,
- 3:39Speaker 1: I've seen from the start when we first came in,
- 3:42Speaker 1: which we'll touch on under false Pretend pretend that's it's developed.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I can't by any means necessary, but you're you're constantly
- 3:52Speaker 1: developing that obviously. Maybe go back to the start of
- 3:55Speaker 1: that where you found the book in the library and
- 3:59Speaker 1: on line. Oh yeah, So I went to college and
- 4:02Speaker 1: did acting. So they just twenty one. I went to college.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Didn't want to be an actor. I just wanted to
- 4:06Speaker 1: nobby filling shelves in a supermarket, which is what I
- 4:08Speaker 1: was doing at the time, was working Brawlin Safe Way.
- 4:10Speaker 1: And I went to a college course and I did
- 4:13Speaker 1: three years of acting. When I graduated, I had seen people
- 4:16Speaker 1: graduating and they'll get a job, and I thought, college,
- 4:18Speaker 1: We're gonna change my life. I don't know I was
- 4:19Speaker 1: going to be going back to the supermarket. When I
- 4:20Speaker 1: did three years of college and I went to the
- 4:23Speaker 1: Laureland Library and I've seen a play called Singing I'm
- 4:25Speaker 1: not Billias of him on the shelf, and that's the
- 4:27Speaker 1: moment Spielberg could pick up They've changed my life. Literally
- 4:30Speaker 1: picked up this play. It was about range just found
- 4:32Speaker 1: a Celtic fan and a prison cell. And although I've
- 4:35Speaker 1: never been in a prison cell, I've shared a bedroom
- 4:37Speaker 1: and alder brother and I was brought up a blue
- 4:39Speaker 1: nose and he was he's a Celtic fan. So literally
- 4:41Speaker 1: we had a line down our law in the room,
- 4:43Speaker 1: and that was a poster that's post posters on one
- 4:47Speaker 1: side and posters and the other. Literally, don't put your
- 4:49Speaker 1: poster into my side. And then the or the nonsense
- 4:53Speaker 1: that goes way. Whatever he thinks, I think the opposite,
- 4:55Speaker 1: you know, every week points scoring. And I was reading
- 4:57Speaker 1: this script and going, that's what it's like, That's what
- 4:59Speaker 1: it would be like in a prison cell. And we
- 5:02Speaker 1: went to the theaters all excited, found a play, going
- 5:04Speaker 1: to put it on, and they said, no chance, nothing
- 5:06Speaker 1: ranging cell it fans coming together, they'll be all right.
- 5:09Speaker 1: So they wouldn't let us in and we ended up
- 5:11Speaker 1: going to the Royal Snooker Hole. Do you remember the
- 5:13Speaker 1: Royal Snooker Hall. It's above Iceland. It's called Harley's Skybarn
- 5:17Speaker 1: on the street and we said to him rehearse in
- 5:19Speaker 1: the back. He said, I wear ahars in the back
- 5:21Speaker 1: of the pub, and the guy went. After two weeks
- 5:23Speaker 1: we went right your rents due you needed a show
- 5:25Speaker 1: in the front. So we had to trip trips suit
- 5:27Speaker 1: in front of unsuspecting regulars who won the exactly theater
- 5:31Speaker 1: goes and they were telling the boys are then a
- 5:33Speaker 1: show turn round for the bar and that was our
- 5:36Speaker 1: first ever audience fast awty. Five years later that played,
- 5:39Speaker 1: so over a million pound of tickets bought my Mammy Susterra.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I won on award for it at the Fringe, I
- 5:45Speaker 1: won the Stage Best Actor award, and we put my
- 5:48Speaker 1: name on all the posters and then get an email
- 5:50Speaker 1: at the Blue Fair Lassie. She said, you don't know me, Scott,
- 5:52Speaker 1: She says, I'm your wee sister. I had three we
- 5:54Speaker 1: sisters and a younger brother. The even existed, and they
- 5:56Speaker 1: found me because my name was on a poster. So
- 5:58Speaker 1: that show had a huge impact in my life, and
- 6:02Speaker 1: at the peak its poals, I made an amateur mistake.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I didn't have a contract. I didn't have a written
- 6:07Speaker 1: agreement to the rights to the show, securing it for
- 6:11Speaker 1: the long term future. So the writer decided to take
- 6:14Speaker 1: the plane to it himself, which was legally entitled today.
- 6:17Speaker 1: But I should have had I should have a lawyer look
- 6:19Speaker 1: at it, and I should have got a contract in place,
- 6:21Speaker 1: and especially I lost my business. I then had to
- 6:23Speaker 1: watch the show roll on in a huge success for
- 6:26Speaker 1: the next fifteen years with me in it, and I
- 6:29Speaker 1: got to the stage. I couldn't watch rangel Sell. I
- 6:30Speaker 1: couldn't watch football. I got to the stage war because
- 6:33Speaker 1: I was when we used to watch the football. That's
- 6:35Speaker 1: when we got material to update the show. Yeah, and
- 6:38Speaker 1: then I went, I can't watch a football because it
- 6:40Speaker 1: just makes me think of the show and I just
- 6:41Speaker 1: feel the pain again. So I kind of disconnected watching
- 6:44Speaker 1: the football and stuff that. And then fifteen year later,
- 6:47Speaker 1: I get an email at the Blue if he Day
- 6:48Speaker 1: is Dylan, the writer that took the playoff my fifteen
- 6:51Speaker 1: year ago, and I said, do you want to take
- 6:52Speaker 1: the playback? My first instinct was to tell them what
- 6:55Speaker 1: the shows play. But I've been writing the book for
- 6:58Speaker 1: five years and I thought it's supposed to be an
- 7:01Speaker 1: inspirational memoir, and in the chapters about finding the play
- 7:04Speaker 1: helped my mammy find my family and then losing the play,
- 7:07Speaker 1: it's not very inspirational story. So I thought could fix
- 7:10Speaker 1: the ending, and if I'm being honest, that was one
- 7:12Speaker 1: of my key motivations was there was a wee bit
- 7:14Speaker 1: unfinished business with it, But there was also a wee
- 7:16Speaker 1: bit of gone. I quite like the idea that there's
- 7:18Speaker 1: a positive end of the story and that brings us
- 7:21Speaker 1: right right up to date. The new where there's a
- 7:22Speaker 1: female version of the show. Those are young Offenders, was
- 7:24Speaker 1: I'm dead excited about because it's the young boys that
- 7:26Speaker 1: are about to take over food. Me and Colin have
- 7:28Speaker 1: been doing it a long time and obviously we'll get
- 7:30Speaker 1: the football legends in it. So it's you guys and
- 7:33Speaker 1: Charlie Miller, David Robertson, David Tanner, Robinclaan and as I said,
- 7:37Speaker 1: it was all but on false pretensies sign which I'm
- 7:39Speaker 1: sure you'll elaborate on. I so where was that venue?
- 7:43Speaker 1: The name doing it? Engleiston Country Club and Bishopton and
- 7:47Speaker 1: it was you tell you thought you were company two
- 7:51Speaker 1: years ago? That ran about two years ago. We were
- 7:53Speaker 1: up at Turriff and Charlie Miller, who obviously was a
- 7:56Speaker 1: good part of yours before I met you, and he
- 8:00Speaker 1: took a phone call and it was Q and A's
- 8:03Speaker 1: let's go and do a little bit of touring the
- 8:04Speaker 1: Quen's and I was like, yeah, that sounds good. And
- 8:07Speaker 1: Engleston was the first one and we went down to
- 8:11Speaker 1: the venue before it, and it was a it was
- 8:13Speaker 1: a lovely venue, but it was two hundred folk there,
- 8:15Speaker 1: so I'm thinking, right, that's fine. I've did Q and
- 8:17Speaker 1: IS many times before. No problem here. We went into
- 8:20Speaker 1: the green room with you guys. It was the first
- 8:22Speaker 1: time I met Colin, and I think it was the
- 8:23Speaker 1: girls were on that night, and you dropped the line
- 8:28Speaker 1: and saying that we in fact had lines in the show.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And that's when the color drain through master stage right
- 8:36Speaker 1: stage fright. Literally, I'm like, what the fuck is he
- 8:38Speaker 1: talking about? Here? He says, other we thought we're going
- 8:41Speaker 1: to put you into the show, and then he's immediately
- 8:43Speaker 1: went into rehearsal, She's went into the character, and I'm
- 8:46Speaker 1: in this room going I'm withing my depth here, what
- 8:49Speaker 1: is going on? It turned out we had one line
- 8:51Speaker 1: I can't remember, but it was like a couple of
- 8:53Speaker 1: ones won it. So we were the prisoners on the
- 8:58Speaker 1: day of the game, coming out before the actual show started.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Thanks to all the members that joined last month, We've
- 9:04Speaker 1: got some goodie bags from Luk here that will be
- 9:07Speaker 1: in the post.
- 9:07Speaker 2: What else we got Jack some nice mugs if you
- 9:10Speaker 2: want to be in to get something next month. Make
- 9:14Speaker 2: sure you subscribe and join and the links and description
- 9:19Speaker 2: Munks from Mugs.
- 9:21Speaker 1: This episode is sponsored by Rosie Maguires and Cable Roy.
- 9:24Speaker 1: We're going to be there at Celtic Supporters Festival from
- 9:26Speaker 1: June the fourth to the seventh, myself, Jackie, who else.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Peter Grant, Joe Miller, Alan Thompson and Tommy Johnson And yeah,
- 9:38Speaker 2: the link is in a description and back to the
- 9:42Speaker 2: episode said yeah.
- 9:43Speaker 1: But that was nervous enough because it was two on
- 9:45Speaker 1: our folk in the room. So we got me and
- 9:47Speaker 1: Charlie managed to do it. We did the Q and
- 9:49Speaker 1: A before as a kind of warm up, and I
- 9:53Speaker 1: think we then met for a coffee that week and decided, look,
- 9:57Speaker 1: there is maybe a place for us on this show,
- 10:00Speaker 1: but let's change it to be in the commentary team.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Because up until that point, reference to the match was
- 10:06Speaker 1: just you guys going to the hatch and the prison
- 10:08Speaker 1: cell wasn't so now the lights scoring us for the game.
- 10:11Speaker 1: So but like I know, you don't know if that
- 10:14Speaker 1: was your intention. That I love when you tell that story,
- 10:19Speaker 1: But for my end is when the show you just
- 10:22Speaker 1: constantly try to make it better and that can be
- 10:24Speaker 1: the something happens in the football you get in the
- 10:26Speaker 1: show that night, so you're constantly feeding that show to
- 10:28Speaker 1: make it better. And as we thought, we'll do the
- 10:30Speaker 1: Q and A at the hotel, and that was the
- 10:32Speaker 1: plan and then Simon were blessed match what I'm blaming?
- 10:36Speaker 1: So Simon, where was it? And Simon says to me,
- 10:38Speaker 1: you can't know I ever get them in the show.
- 10:40Speaker 1: He's like, you've got the guys there be I trying
- 10:42Speaker 1: to think he's just making prisoners or something in the CD.
- 10:49Speaker 1: That a good idea. I'm right, okay, So that's great,
- 10:52Speaker 1: and I think I think that's on the night that
- 10:54Speaker 1: was conversation that after the day after Charlie didn't know.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Charlie didn't know. The other thing I remember being found
- 11:00Speaker 1: your swing help me something. No, but I think the
- 11:04Speaker 1: thing was is obviously Charlie made his acting debut and
- 11:07Speaker 1: Angels share of course, like so he only has experience,
- 11:10Speaker 1: so throwing a card ball at him, No, I think
- 11:12Speaker 1: we want to think Charlie had come down and they
- 11:14Speaker 1: did a couple of beers and he's like it, whereas
- 11:17Speaker 1: Simon had been doing so so basically what happened was
- 11:24Speaker 1: and and they'll be think Simon that we put put
- 11:26Speaker 1: you guys in as the prisoners. And all we did
- 11:28Speaker 1: was we had the female cast can run bump into
- 11:30Speaker 1: the twees in the way, so everybody finds are getting paied.
- 11:33Speaker 1: They would be an infant on payment a fine, same
- 11:35Speaker 1: as everybody else. They walked around the front and Jade
- 11:39Speaker 1: that plays the female Celtic fans, she turns into Simon
- 11:41Speaker 1: and she goes you, Simon Donley and this is his
- 11:45Speaker 1: lines big moment.
- 11:46Speaker 3: And he hi terrified, terrifying, and she says, I had
- 11:51Speaker 3: posted you my mad had posted view in our horse
- 11:54Speaker 3: Strike growing up right, And he's like, all right, cool,
- 11:56Speaker 3: And then Charlie had the b line because say seasoned
- 11:58Speaker 3: experience actively is he?
- 12:00Speaker 1: He says? Did he says? Did he say? Did he
- 12:01Speaker 1: on the Rangels fantasy? Did you might have posters of
- 12:05Speaker 1: me or in us? And she's like now and that
- 12:08Speaker 1: was the wee bait and then Simon lead and the
- 12:11Speaker 1: Simon wheel as leads him out and he says it's
- 12:13Speaker 1: so he sws a wee line of going hurry up,
- 12:14Speaker 1: and she's all make the match right and Charlie, I
- 12:16Speaker 1: ain't had a few bers and he went because we're commentating.
- 12:19Speaker 1: That's good, right. I don't know if you knew that
- 12:21Speaker 1: he threw that out there backstage before going on. I went,
- 12:25Speaker 1: they are another great idea to make a shoe even better,
- 12:26Speaker 1: and I thought, that's why they should have been a cantli.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Why do we even think to put them in his prisons?
- 12:30Speaker 1: It was a daft idea. Now at the time, it
- 12:31Speaker 1: was great ten minutes ago before the show started. So
- 12:34Speaker 1: I and it's now evolved and in the full commentry team,
- 12:36Speaker 1: And that's the bit of a your honest show. More
- 12:38Speaker 1: strikes me more than anything because I've done the show
- 12:40Speaker 1: a lot, you know, I've done all in the world.
- 12:42Speaker 1: But to get a chance to bring in the live commentary,
- 12:45Speaker 1: it's brilliant and the it's great to see you guys
- 12:48Speaker 1: because when we first gave us the script, he came
- 12:49Speaker 1: at the fringe and you could see the guys like
- 12:51Speaker 1: the script was god like only saying so the thing is,
- 12:54Speaker 1: the pavilion was the first one. Oh as a girl,
- 12:57Speaker 1: so it was the first one. We're thrown right, and
- 12:59Speaker 1: so I once so is the pavilion Before I watched
- 13:03Speaker 1: it there the girls the Girls with the Men act
- 13:06Speaker 1: that night well again, idea of that thing is that
- 13:09Speaker 1: was the first time we kind of done it for real.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Well for your point of view, the girls, right, the
- 13:12Speaker 1: girls have got a theater show. And I turned that
- 13:14Speaker 1: one day and said, I'm going to throw in the
- 13:15Speaker 1: comment team and go, what are you talking about? What's
- 13:17Speaker 1: this comedy? Like? It's a great idea, we need to
- 13:19Speaker 1: trial it. And so the girls were flying with the
- 13:22Speaker 1: seat of their pants that night as much as you
- 13:24Speaker 1: was were as well. So it was a lot going
- 13:25Speaker 1: on and to date in front of you, you know,
- 13:27Speaker 1: packed audience at the pavilion was probably a bit mad,
- 13:30Speaker 1: but it was absolutely great fun and it's worked it
- 13:32Speaker 1: really well. And that the idea is, I like the
- 13:34Speaker 1: idea of of bringing in growing up, the growing the
- 13:37Speaker 1: commentary side of the show and gains more and more
- 13:40Speaker 1: to do, you know, because now that he's are on
- 13:42Speaker 1: the poster, I think people have gone right come to
- 13:44Speaker 1: see the guys, whereas before we've kind of protected a
- 13:46Speaker 1: wee bit, just gave you a week wee bit here,
- 13:48Speaker 1: a wee bit there, So she's kind of gone, how
- 13:50Speaker 1: much have we got today? Do I mean? And to
- 13:51Speaker 1: be fair as well, I think you mentioned there about Charlie.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Hats off to him. I pitched to kind of Charlie
- 13:57Speaker 1: fusted with the Cunies an the reason, and I like
- 14:00Speaker 1: line in that. And it's grown into the show's totally changed.
- 14:02Speaker 1: I mean, and that's probably don't your friendship way we
- 14:05Speaker 1: Charlie as well. Got all right, I trust Charlie's not
- 14:07Speaker 1: going to leave be into something it should be. It's
- 14:10Speaker 1: been good fun and you're out your comfort zone, Abe,
- 14:14Speaker 1: but I like that you're up in that kind of
- 14:17Speaker 1: guantee the pavilion, so the wee bit of protection. But
- 14:19Speaker 1: see when you took us to the fringe and for
- 14:21Speaker 1: here to you for the audience, that was a bit
- 14:24Speaker 1: bit more nerve, Rack, And I think you did Dundee one.
- 14:26Speaker 1: You experienced that the Dundee one, remember your first one.
- 14:29Speaker 2: The crowd right here to watch is first to the
- 14:32Speaker 2: pavilion and I'm just I'm just I was with the
- 14:35Speaker 2: crowd half just looking at the crowd. How mental it was,
- 14:39Speaker 2: like it's real like see when Rayne just scoring on
- 14:42Speaker 2: that and or Celtics score, it's like they've just scored the.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Other men and to celebrate each other.
- 14:50Speaker 2: And actually but actual shows excellent, you know the whole
- 14:54Speaker 2: story and what you're trying to put across, but it
- 14:57Speaker 2: sometimes gets lost and certainly certain people that.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Night, that first one with the girls, somebody get scuoted out.
- 15:05Speaker 1: It's normally it was a woman. I just say, it's
- 15:09Speaker 1: not a drunk woman. And the funny thing it shows
- 15:11Speaker 1: it happens all over in theater, are right, So what
- 15:13Speaker 1: normally happens is it's absolutely nothing today normally the show
- 15:16Speaker 1: normally somebody either laughing too much or somebody's chatting away
- 15:19Speaker 1: going no, that was really funny, and somebody I've gone
- 15:20Speaker 1: gone to shot up, like watch the show and that's
- 15:22Speaker 1: who you talked to, and then somebody's scolded it. Any
- 15:24Speaker 1: people go, oh, it's because it's a fit one like
- 15:26Speaker 1: that's going it's a politeness and good manals. Actually it
- 15:28Speaker 1: was probably most of the time. But the show's got
- 15:31Speaker 1: for strength to the strength. So we've been off of
- 15:33Speaker 1: dates in like the Sydney Opera House, which is very
- 15:36Speaker 1: exciting for everybody else except for I'm the producer, and
- 15:38Speaker 1: that lands on me how we get and everybody to
- 15:40Speaker 1: get there after. I mean, so I was I need
- 15:42Speaker 1: to sell a lot of books. So once I've sold
- 15:44Speaker 1: a lot of books.
- 15:44Speaker 2: We can albou a mister t for that one milk
- 15:48Speaker 2: drink the milk on the plane with the flights in Australia.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Way from that. So so that that that brings a
- 15:56Speaker 1: show bang up to you to the noon. We've got
- 15:58Speaker 1: the Pavilion October which is dead exciting with then Inverness
- 16:02Speaker 1: and all big one on the Invernets and then and
- 16:04Speaker 1: then Aberdeen as well in November and then if I'm
- 16:07Speaker 1: being honest to say, he's I'm excited about the young
- 16:09Speaker 1: boys coming in at I like the idea that they'll
- 16:11Speaker 1: step away and I'll produce it. But Colin, that's been
- 16:14Speaker 1: in it with me for a long time. I would
- 16:15Speaker 1: never step out if he's still wanted it, do you know.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I mean the honess is if he's still there's still
- 16:20Speaker 1: some left in it for you see the young boys
- 16:22Speaker 1: stepping on either they're ready. They did Aberdeen last week.
- 16:25Speaker 1: We were at Abideen on Sunday night and I brillant.
- 16:28Speaker 1: It's just great. See it also makes me sense with
- 16:30Speaker 1: two young daft boys, see Colin and I and we
- 16:32Speaker 1: are in a forties we should know better. In the
- 16:34Speaker 1: prison sell I had that chat with the girls the
- 16:36Speaker 1: girls when the girls were doing there about twenty five
- 16:38Speaker 1: and I went, I think it's right for your age, right,
- 16:40Speaker 1: and they were saying, we think it's your age is
- 16:42Speaker 1: right because there's so many of that generation that are
- 16:45Speaker 1: stuck in their ways right, And I was kind of thinking,
- 16:47Speaker 1: thinking that maybe you're shuld have grown up by now,
- 16:49Speaker 1: whereas with the young boys, it's the same things going
- 16:51Speaker 1: at it as a daft young boy, I think saying
- 16:53Speaker 1: in the jail and the staff that says, does it
- 16:55Speaker 1: makes sense for a younger a younger kind of cast
- 16:58Speaker 1: to dated honess. So but as I I'm not retiring
- 17:01Speaker 1: calling yet, I've got to be fair him. If there's
- 17:02Speaker 1: any he's saying, I'm Dane Sydney. The boys are not
- 17:04Speaker 1: getting can change the whole cast. So it's been great.
- 17:10Speaker 1: It's been really enjoyable. It's something that, as I say,
- 17:14Speaker 1: you would never have envisaged doing anything like that. But
- 17:16Speaker 1: it's been good. I'm excited about the new script that
- 17:18Speaker 1: you haven't seen yet. It's more there's more the talking
- 17:21Speaker 1: heads about it and it right, well, there's a lot
- 17:22Speaker 1: more because we kind of knew the format. Now we
- 17:24Speaker 1: can I know what we're doing and you guys are
- 17:26Speaker 1: n n of comfortable in your bits. We can elaborate
- 17:28Speaker 1: and now we can open up and go chat about
- 17:29Speaker 1: your debuts and all the old firm games are going
- 17:31Speaker 1: it all because it's on the scripts people when it
- 17:33Speaker 1: comes to the show. But there's a lot better. And
- 17:35Speaker 1: the nice thing for you is you're just taught me
- 17:36Speaker 1: stuff that you have spoke about numerous times at different events.
- 17:39Speaker 1: So it's so many we should probab look at the
- 17:41Speaker 1: script and go I don't need that. I can just
- 17:42Speaker 1: tell that story, which is really nice as well. So
- 17:44Speaker 1: it's good that you develop it. And there's always there's
- 17:46Speaker 1: always stories because it's always changed. The players are always changing.
- 17:49Speaker 1: We've had to change managers as well, even in the
- 17:53Speaker 1: short period we've been doing it. There was a great
- 17:55Speaker 1: one I loved David Tanner, obviously Rob mcleandy the contry
- 17:58Speaker 1: and they used to broadcast the grips changing all the time.
- 18:01Speaker 1: So it's a bit when we're at the pavilion and
- 18:03Speaker 1: David Tanner did a wee bit and he says, he says, remarkably,
- 18:06Speaker 1: we're here at iBook Stadium, they said, and the Rangers
- 18:09Speaker 1: fans and the Celtic fans are singing the same song, right,
- 18:11Speaker 1: and this was descripted. So we're on the stage card.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Where's he going to this? And he goes like sack
- 18:16Speaker 1: the ball, sack, just tails drag are brilliant and so
- 18:20Speaker 1: wee things that happen all the time. Keep his on.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I tost you. So it's great fun. So going back
- 18:26Speaker 1: to the start, then we you're acting as well though,
- 18:28Speaker 1: So you were at the school, same school as me,
- 18:30Speaker 1: obviously a few years after me, a little bit older.
- 18:33Speaker 1: But how do you go for that to the likes
- 18:34Speaker 1: of outlet? Where do you get the opportunity with that wander?
- 18:38Speaker 1: So you always went went to school, did it? Did
- 18:40Speaker 1: a wee bit of drama at school, but it was
- 18:41Speaker 1: mere honest to get a proper classes the ones I
- 18:44Speaker 1: was kind of get done and you get to show
- 18:45Speaker 1: ALFs a bunch of mele glasses than guys. I mean
- 18:48Speaker 1: they're numbered tenty one. I think it was only three
- 18:50Speaker 1: boys in the class and steady glasses, so kicking about
- 18:52Speaker 1: showing half really, I mean just and then the remember
- 18:55Speaker 1: the drama teacher had abreevement mister Roy his brother had
- 18:59Speaker 1: pass the way and were in the middle of production.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I don't know. It just kind of hit me. I
- 19:02Speaker 1: think I had experienced it and like breathments my kind
- 19:06Speaker 1: of family or life at that time, and it just
- 19:07Speaker 1: hit me. I've got my brother myself, and I thought
- 19:10Speaker 1: christ and he said, just keep walking on the plane
- 19:12Speaker 1: and then and he can back it into the class
- 19:14Speaker 1: aftery're going it and he says, look, I'm going to
- 19:16Speaker 1: to go. He's like, just keep walking. The playing instantly
- 19:18Speaker 1: went fuck the play does cares about to play? And
- 19:22Speaker 1: he shouted me outside and they took me in the
- 19:23Speaker 1: corridor and they said, Scott, you don't know what he's like.
- 19:27Speaker 1: The people in that class, they look up to you.
- 19:29Speaker 1: He's like, if you rehearse, if you if you lead them,
- 19:31Speaker 1: they'll go through it. And if you don't need to
- 19:33Speaker 1: go day anything, he's like, so gonney mate for me,
- 19:35Speaker 1: He's like, that's what I need you to do. Then
- 19:36Speaker 1: if you want to support me, that's when I need
- 19:38Speaker 1: you to rehearse the play. Right, They did ever put
- 19:41Speaker 1: any faith in me something of that? And I went
- 19:43Speaker 1: in the class and I was all right, guys, let's
- 19:45Speaker 1: stay that. Because there was times were there was we're
- 19:47Speaker 1: supposed to be a talent show and perform in front
- 19:48Speaker 1: of school, and I went, I was in school team,
- 19:50Speaker 1: I'm not going to out and doing it, so I'll
- 19:52Speaker 1: rehearse it in the class. I'm day all the stuff,
- 19:54Speaker 1: I'm no day in the show. And and my drama
- 19:56Speaker 1: teacher started down. He's like such a coward Scot. He's like,
- 20:00Speaker 1: he's like, you're let you're going to stop the other
- 20:02Speaker 1: two guys because they'll know good with you. He's like,
- 20:04Speaker 1: and you're going to let the guys in the footba
- 20:06Speaker 1: team or all these guys in the play around stop
- 20:08Speaker 1: you and the guys figure out there and all the
- 20:10Speaker 1: lasses are in the show that we've all worked on
- 20:12Speaker 1: because you're ego, because you're you're no confident enough to
- 20:15Speaker 1: say I'm doing this to the boys in the football team,
- 20:18Speaker 1: and obviously and suddenly said you a challenge, I'll show
- 20:21Speaker 1: you and then did the show. I mean, and that
- 20:23Speaker 1: was that wee bit and then after that, you don't
- 20:25Speaker 1: know if you fitball changing rooms. I would lean in it.
- 20:27Speaker 1: When some went away to do the drama score, I
- 20:29Speaker 1: was like, I'm we're gonna be award winning. I'm got
- 20:31Speaker 1: and lean into it even were then and I found
- 20:33Speaker 1: obviously I play a bit billion time. I was like,
- 20:34Speaker 1: well that's leanings and other things, but I went way
- 20:37Speaker 1: billion time. I got the award and then I got
- 20:39Speaker 1: an agent, so you're asking about lander. My first job
- 20:42Speaker 1: was that was actually Joe Share and when I met
- 20:45Speaker 1: Charlie on that and that was nice one we ken
- 20:48Speaker 1: Loach because it was in the script. So the many
- 20:50Speaker 1: was terrifying and exciting because you couldn't mess up because
- 20:53Speaker 1: it wasn't a script for Lane to learn. There was.
- 20:55Speaker 1: It would be a scenario, situation and right, okay, this
- 20:58Speaker 1: is a situation and you just act at the situation.
- 21:00Speaker 1: They're filming it a wee tweaks, but gave you a
- 21:03Speaker 1: lot of freedom for your thoughts and you're inputting it.
- 21:05Speaker 1: So he felt that you were making a movie. Awake
- 21:07Speaker 1: kend Loach as opposed to just get to making somebody else.
- 21:09Speaker 1: He'd been in somebody else's movie. And then that was
- 21:13Speaker 1: I went to the Red Carpet event on that was
- 21:15Speaker 1: a movie staff for the night, and then then he
- 21:17Speaker 1: got Joe for a year. The next job got was
- 21:20Speaker 1: called Kajakie and ki Jackie is a true story about
- 21:24Speaker 1: a group of British paratroopers stuck in a minefield, so
- 21:27Speaker 1: that one was Oscar Winners. We're casting it. We did
- 21:30Speaker 1: it to London three times to get seen for it.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I was additioning for a Glasswagian guys to Pierce and Fiasco.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Brides was a real guy, so I was desperate. Soon
- 21:37Speaker 1: as you knew it was a guy Bride, I'm like
- 21:38Speaker 1: dump for Allan's I mean definitely like this role landed there,
- 21:41Speaker 1: all went to Jordan. We filmed in the Jordanian desert
- 21:44Speaker 1: for six weeks, so felt like it was like the
- 21:47Speaker 1: Rodell Well the boys being movie stars. Right, We're in
- 21:50Speaker 1: the run the pool. We walked six days a week,
- 21:52Speaker 1: but with one day off. We're in the pool on
- 21:54Speaker 1: the day off and the boys were good ruined and
- 21:56Speaker 1: it's like, wait then you go back one of the boys.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I'm sacked my agent because you know, Davy's scenes get
- 22:00Speaker 1: twenty editions a week, so I'm sat by aging, what
- 22:03Speaker 1: about you doing somethings that I'm not going to day
- 22:04Speaker 1: theater anymy I'm only going to do the tail in
- 22:06Speaker 1: the movies and other guys that I'm not daing like
- 22:08Speaker 1: soaps it and just movies for me. Now it's right
- 22:10Speaker 1: and it comes to me and go, what were you, Scott?
- 22:12Speaker 1: You don't you go back to see I'm going back
- 22:13Speaker 1: to my day job. You know why we are actresses.
- 22:15Speaker 1: But I've done the Angels share and I knew the
- 22:17Speaker 1: reality of it is that you might not you might
- 22:19Speaker 1: never be an actor ever again for all you know.
- 22:21Speaker 1: So we did that and then I landed to Outlander
- 22:25Speaker 1: and talk about life changing and just the scale and
- 22:29Speaker 1: I'm thankfully I didn't know how big the show was
- 22:30Speaker 1: when I got cast in it, because I think it
- 22:32Speaker 1: refreakd you. But when you walked on set very quickly
- 22:34Speaker 1: realized was that. So we we filmed or in Scotland.
- 22:39Speaker 1: I think my first day was up in crief and
- 22:41Speaker 1: they put U up in crief hydro. So that was
- 22:42Speaker 1: nice bringing the wife up or wait you this so
- 22:46Speaker 1: you're not supposed to bring anybody with you, right, So
- 22:47Speaker 1: I like the wife forget three days in crew idle
- 22:49Speaker 1: way up here, right, So we go up and it's nice,
- 22:53Speaker 1: you've done your reading on that and you get me
- 22:55Speaker 1: a lot. That night before my first day of shooting,
- 22:58Speaker 1: we're in the restaurant having a meal and we altered
- 23:01Speaker 1: a dessert and beat the dessert and they got to
- 23:04Speaker 1: the room and about three of them on and my
- 23:06Speaker 1: wife makes me well, she's like, I can't breathe, and
- 23:08Speaker 1: her face had swollen it she took an allergic reaction
- 23:10Speaker 1: to hazel walnut. Sorry, and then in the cake they
- 23:13Speaker 1: we'd had and her face is bloon dot and her
- 23:15Speaker 1: next all blond dot. Right, And I'm going, she's not
- 23:17Speaker 1: supposed to be here, so I mean, I'm going, and
- 23:19Speaker 1: there you goes, I can't say it, and my wife's
- 23:21Speaker 1: turned up and she's and I'm going, but I can't
- 23:24Speaker 1: go to with my wife with a predicament. I'm in
- 23:26Speaker 1: and he's called it went downstairs and some day where
- 23:30Speaker 1: we spoke to somebody working in it and spending us
- 23:32Speaker 1: and they managed to get her a histamine and and
- 23:36Speaker 1: kind of clear that her heart was gone. On my
- 23:38Speaker 1: first day, I'm going ruined my marriage by going and
- 23:42Speaker 1: working round my career by no going there by bye,
- 23:46Speaker 1: I mean, and you walked on and those hundreds of
- 23:48Speaker 1: horses and hundreds of extra sn that stuff, and you're going,
- 23:51Speaker 1: this is just a huge my fustay and said I
- 23:53Speaker 1: didn't have a line, thankfully, so storing in their dry mouth,
- 23:57Speaker 1: couldn't he couldn't have talked anyway, And it was nice
- 24:02Speaker 1: to watch, and I had a lovely wee part and
- 24:04Speaker 1: I was playing Roster Blacksmith. So I was in six
- 24:06Speaker 1: episodes and I was getting a wee bit mare every
- 24:10Speaker 1: time I went back. So me and mare lights and
- 24:12Speaker 1: what only the nice thing is usual on this It
- 24:14Speaker 1: was sometimes you're watching learning, maybe you're coaching stuff. You're
- 24:16Speaker 1: watching good coaches, you're learning. I was watching some of
- 24:19Speaker 1: these actors that have done great mctavis, Shops and Rambo
- 24:21Speaker 1: and all this kind of stuff, like huge stuff. You're
- 24:23Speaker 1: just watching going right, this is how they're conducting them sell.
- 24:26Speaker 1: This is how they're doing their business. So watching learning
- 24:28Speaker 1: and you'll only be one line in that scene going
- 24:30Speaker 1: on that's no too scary, and then next to us
- 24:33Speaker 1: a few mail and a wee bit mere. Also the
- 24:34Speaker 1: people are starting to really support Ian rally around there
- 24:37Speaker 1: a bit mere so, But I mean I've been The
- 24:39Speaker 1: comic colons are in the world. You know, the US
- 24:40Speaker 1: probably done stuff. No use were in Dubai recently when
- 24:42Speaker 1: the bombs are going to offen all that, but we've done.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Comic coons are in the world, being in Canada, America, France,
- 24:47Speaker 1: Germany sitting there on the people want your autograph for
- 24:52Speaker 1: all of them, I've signed your atograph. So that's that's
- 24:56Speaker 1: been kind of amazing. And my social media went through
- 24:59Speaker 1: the roof with three quarters of million Twitter follows. I
- 25:01Speaker 1: was on social media all the time, every every second
- 25:04Speaker 1: of the day, posted about the Nabor's cat getting huge
- 25:07Speaker 1: likes and that stuff anytime I was trying to sell it.
- 25:09Speaker 1: And you know what I mean, like Neil likes if
- 25:12Speaker 1: I put the Navel's cat on a million likes for
- 25:14Speaker 1: just the Navel's cat, you know. But it's an amazing
- 25:18Speaker 1: experience work and stuff like at that scale. And that's
- 25:21Speaker 1: that's the Champions League er game and that obviously more
- 25:25Speaker 1: recent times than you touched with another supper started with
- 25:28Speaker 1: the Harrison Ford stuffy that I So what happened was,
- 25:34Speaker 1: here's here's the truth. Just to get the context is
- 25:37Speaker 1: I've been average with one acting Jobe by year, right,
- 25:40Speaker 1: and I normally take annually leave for my day job,
- 25:41Speaker 1: and I went and my wife's don't get a holiday
- 25:43Speaker 1: again because you've got a job on your holidays. So
- 25:46Speaker 1: for two years I don't really have any acting and
- 25:48Speaker 1: jobs come in but for me it wasn't a big deal.
- 25:50Speaker 1: It was just like hat that year. But the agent
- 25:54Speaker 1: is because it's naked mission. An agent bump me off
- 25:56Speaker 1: that sorry's got no work tottle bar, and but I
- 25:58Speaker 1: was going up for like the Pennyworth the Batman spin off,
- 26:01Speaker 1: and I got doing it. The last two play a
- 26:03Speaker 1: glass region sas X Alcoholic, and I was doing the
- 26:06Speaker 1: last too and nearly got it. And the young boy
- 26:07Speaker 1: Dryan Fletcher go if he's got very brilliant actor, great,
- 26:10Speaker 1: and I might have a laugh with him saying they
- 26:11Speaker 1: cast Wally for the Simpsons because he's red hair and
- 26:14Speaker 1: he's a Scotsman. But but I go close to things
- 26:17Speaker 1: but guardy Kings and stuff. I didn't quite get it.
- 26:20Speaker 1: But the second agent wrote me as well, I'm sitting
- 26:22Speaker 1: going I think I'm going to be at the game here.
- 26:24Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm going to get back in
- 26:25Speaker 1: because it's been so long since Outlander. And I got
- 26:28Speaker 1: a new agent and they sent me through an advert
- 26:30Speaker 1: and I must I see myself as a storytelling leaving
- 26:33Speaker 1: an actor had more a storyteller, So I like my
- 26:35Speaker 1: book and must be at the event. And then this
- 26:37Speaker 1: came through and I'm like, I can't. My wife is
- 26:40Speaker 1: interesting to do. She's like, she says, well, don't I
- 26:45Speaker 1: need to going there because I'm not a job in
- 26:47Speaker 1: two years. So they kind of have the agent's gone,
- 26:49Speaker 1: here's an audition, and I decided I don't want to
- 26:51Speaker 1: go to it. So I went to the edition and
- 26:53Speaker 1: it must be that thing I didn't want. It, went in,
- 26:55Speaker 1: did the thing, walk to what the phone called got
- 26:57Speaker 1: the job dinner. I was like, I want the job,
- 27:01Speaker 1: and they make matles worse. They see it's your in
- 27:03Speaker 1: taining Inverness and we need you for three days, and
- 27:06Speaker 1: I'm like, my wife three days miles away. Event happened
- 27:09Speaker 1: when the kids are like a kind of game, stuck
- 27:11Speaker 1: in the knowing that script doesn't even any lines. I'm like, essentially,
- 27:14Speaker 1: I'm like sitting in the background a pub, probably drink
- 27:16Speaker 1: a whiskey in my head because I just say the
- 27:17Speaker 1: whiskey brand commercial. Drive up to Teine with my face
- 27:21Speaker 1: tripping me on the speaker, photo, all my mates raging
- 27:25Speaker 1: I'm driving up here different, get up there a costume
- 27:29Speaker 1: fitting and go to sleep that night. Next day, walk
- 27:33Speaker 1: out to walk out the car, picks milk and the
- 27:36Speaker 1: end of the calves a drive on a guy next
- 27:38Speaker 1: to me and small talk stuff. I says, d day
- 27:41Speaker 1: when you're not day. In this same pound, he says,
- 27:42Speaker 1: I'm full time double for Harrison. I've never heard the
- 27:50Speaker 1: name Harrison so far. When there's only one Harrison in
- 27:52Speaker 1: the world, I can think that we'd have a double.
- 27:54Speaker 1: So at this point also we bit my pride. I
- 27:56Speaker 1: don't like to you the game away that I don't
- 27:57Speaker 1: know when that I'm going portan enough to know, and
- 28:01Speaker 1: so I'm like, all right, cool, right, okay, this has
- 28:03Speaker 1: just got their interest and rock up on his set
- 28:06Speaker 1: loads of chatting of it and else that. I hear
- 28:07Speaker 1: the guys at work in the factory saying Joe Edgarton's
- 28:10Speaker 1: directing it. He's a movie star and Noise an Australian actor.
- 28:13Speaker 1: He'd done The Warrior with Tom Hardy and all that,
- 28:15Speaker 1: and it's done. He's director. I was saying, Wow, that's amazing.
- 28:19Speaker 1: So there's a So I'm sitting there in the with
- 28:22Speaker 1: the the kind of the last. He comes into my makeup.
- 28:27Speaker 1: She says, are you playing? Ed says, I really don't know,
- 28:29Speaker 1: and instead secret of us says I nobody's told us
- 28:31Speaker 1: in and I was thinking, it's like ken Loach's secretive.
- 28:33Speaker 1: They don't get a script. And he said, I hang
- 28:36Speaker 1: your plane. D But the re lead he was sitting
- 28:37Speaker 1: behind you. He's just away down the film. I said,
- 28:39Speaker 1: what you mean, he's as he walks in the factory.
- 28:43Speaker 1: He's working with Harrison. I said, what my dad, just
- 28:46Speaker 1: in case you need you, if you know, if if
- 28:48Speaker 1: ed mess up his lines, I was a brilliant even
- 28:51Speaker 1: getting used. I've got this show only getting used. And
- 28:55Speaker 1: then at the end of the day I was going in,
- 28:56Speaker 1: I was like, it was my bubble buss ed nailed.
- 28:58Speaker 1: It is at the park and I'm I'm didn't get
- 29:00Speaker 1: a job and I'm getting my makeup laughing. The last
- 29:03Speaker 1: he says, I think you're playing it. I think you're
- 29:06Speaker 1: playing Angus And you said, I honestly don't know anybod
- 29:09Speaker 1: You got to see me Harris in the Morre, I'm
- 29:11Speaker 1: thinking and I got jump into the more and Joel
- 29:14Speaker 1: the director came running there and they went Scott sort
- 29:17Speaker 1: of a chance to introduce your just flewing for Australia
- 29:19Speaker 1: and being busy. But he says he got seen me
- 29:21Speaker 1: Harris and the Morrow just doing him He's like, I've
- 29:23Speaker 1: seen your show, you know, not no worried about You'll
- 29:24Speaker 1: be fine, all right. I don't think I'll be fine
- 29:27Speaker 1: though waiting my couldn't sleep that night in the hotel room,
- 29:29Speaker 1: you know what I mean? And then the next day
- 29:31Speaker 1: and people can watch it online. It's set. It's on
- 29:33Speaker 1: the Glamor and Andy website. And I got one on
- 29:36Speaker 1: one scene with Harris and Ford sitting on a deck
- 29:39Speaker 1: chair on a beautiful remote beach, just me and him
- 29:41Speaker 1: filming Oddity And it's a beautiful moment where they're filming
- 29:46Speaker 1: is for the sky and it's just me and him
- 29:48Speaker 1: and made a great week conversation. I get to tell
- 29:50Speaker 1: my stories I've told you about my life, Like just
- 29:51Speaker 1: me and Harrison Ford is brilliant fun. But that's that
- 29:54Speaker 1: was the wee boy. And you're going growing up watching
- 29:57Speaker 1: Indiana Jones getting a chance to work with somebody that
- 29:59Speaker 1: level was I mean, it wasn't It wasn't the Star Wars.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Wasn't he a partner Indiana Jones? But what a gift
- 30:05Speaker 1: their job to get? Do you know what I mean?
- 30:06Speaker 1: With a Hollywood icon, you know what I mean? Like
- 30:09Speaker 1: they just I'm amazing in terms of chatty to everybody,
- 30:14Speaker 1: going great with everybody. And because you don't know that, well,
- 30:17Speaker 1: I suppose we see things like whether it's yourself or
- 30:20Speaker 1: somebody of a certain out walks into the room. People, oh,
- 30:23Speaker 1: here he comes. So he's got to deal with his
- 30:25Speaker 1: whole life. So I it was really good tatty too,
- 30:27Speaker 1: all the staff and everybody, and broke the ice for everybody.
- 30:29Speaker 1: And there's there's a great episode. They've got one of
- 30:33Speaker 1: the whiskey commercials where he's he's playing grumpy Harrison and
- 30:37Speaker 1: he's shouting and swearing and all that stuff, right, and
- 30:39Speaker 1: he's kind of saying, hurry, l let's roll this, Let's
- 30:40Speaker 1: film this piece of ship and that right, so on
- 30:42Speaker 1: the advert and he I was, we'd finished ey day
- 30:45Speaker 1: that day and I was. They said, is we can
- 30:47Speaker 1: either take you back so there long drive or do
- 30:48Speaker 1: you want to sty and just watch? And of course
- 30:51Speaker 1: I want to time watch harson Ford. I mean, so
- 30:52Speaker 1: he's sitting there and action that and he's gonna let's
- 30:55Speaker 1: film this piece of ship and he's like, hurry, happened
- 30:57Speaker 1: they're going that car? And he's what's wrong with that one?
- 30:59Speaker 1: He's screaming, right, I'm going it was dead nicely what
- 31:01Speaker 1: we mean, and then they filled that out and then
- 31:05Speaker 1: he go a cup resetting he does it again. It
- 31:07Speaker 1: was in the script because I didn't seen the script.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I didn't, you know, thought it was episode eight. It's
- 31:11Speaker 1: great you watch it and has a diva. But that's
- 31:14Speaker 1: when I seen it for the first time. I think, God,
- 31:15Speaker 1: he's been a rit diva here. That was it was
- 31:17Speaker 1: part of the script, which was amazing. So so it's
- 31:20Speaker 1: like those are pinch me moments that they go, wow,
- 31:23Speaker 1: do you know I mean that you would never run
- 31:24Speaker 1: a million years thought the wee boy watching Indiana Jones
- 31:28Speaker 1: that you get working there, the Jones, I mean just phenomenal.
- 31:30Speaker 1: So could squeeze aim into billion. Tim, Well, that's some
- 31:34Speaker 1: we're looking for a few business for the reprobates. We'll
- 31:38Speaker 1: start off here. Harrison, Yeah, would be a good prison officer.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Hopefully they are. Harriet fits in Big Harrison. Hopefully, hopefully
- 31:48Speaker 1: the rumor mill starts in that group. They everything we
- 31:50Speaker 1: pack at the theater, Sydney's sold expecting Harrison in the podcast. Yeah,
- 31:57Speaker 1: that's but amazing though, that kind of thing. That's why
- 32:01Speaker 1: with this as well. It excites me. You don't know
- 32:03Speaker 1: who you're going to meet next, so it's someone in
- 32:05Speaker 1: your acting fielder and there's you're going up to an
- 32:08Speaker 1: advert there scunner than the up, and you're crossing paths
- 32:12Speaker 1: with Bet. It shows you again, though, that wee thing
- 32:14Speaker 1: of trust, trust the process, trust the universe, that something
- 32:17Speaker 1: will deliver, because I imagine I had been watching harv
- 32:20Speaker 1: and I said knowledge turned it down, And Jesus God,
- 32:23Speaker 1: you're watching somebody else living out your dream. Do you
- 32:25Speaker 1: know what I mean?
- 32:26Speaker 2: Somebody else got on cheese even the same way you play.
- 32:28Speaker 2: You know, if you you'd take me, I'm not I'm
- 32:31Speaker 2: not getting involved. But again, the fact that you've taken
- 32:33Speaker 2: it back again and then checking it giving it more life.
- 32:37Speaker 1: What was the reason you said fifteen years the boy?
- 32:40Speaker 1: What was his reasoning for getting it back to you?
- 32:43Speaker 1: When I when I met Dezen when he was taking
- 32:45Speaker 1: the show off me? Was that at the SECC right.
- 32:47Speaker 1: It's in chapter one in my book. I just plenty
- 32:49Speaker 1: two thousand people, my family are in, my mammy's in
- 32:51Speaker 1: and all that, and Desk tells an amazing story. He
- 32:54Speaker 1: was driving the SEC that night. Now you know he was.
- 32:56Speaker 1: He knew he was going to tell me he was
- 32:57Speaker 1: taking the show off me. We can start traffic and
- 32:58Speaker 1: he saying, shit, I've gotta late for us show, always
- 33:00Speaker 1: in show. And by the time he got to the
- 33:01Speaker 1: SECC realized he was stuck in the traffic for his show.
- 33:04Speaker 1: They were to come to see his show Coat Bridge
- 33:05Speaker 1: and the ears were his fay, so they they were
- 33:08Speaker 1: all come and see the show. And I got my
- 33:10Speaker 1: stand up that night and told the audience he was
- 33:12Speaker 1: in and all that right. So and he's like, Scott,
- 33:14Speaker 1: you got me up, and I'm going fucking Moselle and
- 33:16Speaker 1: on that right, Because I didn't know the story till
- 33:18Speaker 1: fifteen years later when I met again and after the show,
- 33:21Speaker 1: I said to him, Ara, took your deal desk, sitting
- 33:23Speaker 1: in the house getting royally did nothing. You've no idea
- 33:25Speaker 1: how hard that work, the idea of how every minute
- 33:27Speaker 1: of my life is selling this bloody show. Right, my
- 33:30Speaker 1: family backpacks on and and it wasn't working. Come out
- 33:33Speaker 1: day leaflet and put letter box his leaflets, stick us
- 33:35Speaker 1: around the city and just try and make noise. And
- 33:38Speaker 1: he said to me when I met and he says,
- 33:40Speaker 1: this is when you told me that he said, I
- 33:41Speaker 1: thought it was just bad Scott. I didn't realize how
- 33:43Speaker 1: much work it was, and what he'd done was desp
- 33:45Speaker 1: produced himself. And then the hard thing as well, you're
- 33:47Speaker 1: dealing with actors who the better they get, the more
- 33:50Speaker 1: likely are they leave. So actually the stronger your show gets,
- 33:53Speaker 1: the bigger the liability is because somebody goes they're spielbuild phone,
- 33:55Speaker 1: I'm gone. Somebody comes and takes it that sitting and
- 34:00Speaker 1: they I was just sitting there going so I'm just
- 34:02Speaker 1: finding our feet getting strong, and then somebody could disappear
- 34:04Speaker 1: and you couldn't hold it against them because of a
- 34:06Speaker 1: Spilberg phone. I was leaving as well, you know what
- 34:07Speaker 1: I mean. So you're kind the same boat as them.
- 34:10Speaker 1: So I sat down with me and he kind of
- 34:14Speaker 1: basically managed to puy off his mortgage and all that
- 34:16Speaker 1: because and it was all the donkey work I had done,
- 34:19Speaker 1: all the hard draft. And then they they played two
- 34:21Speaker 1: weeks at the pavilion and are I recking? They made
- 34:24Speaker 1: quarter of a million, and I was sitting had gone
- 34:25Speaker 1: that was my quarter a million because I don't know
- 34:27Speaker 1: all the hard work. But I try to teach the
- 34:29Speaker 1: kids at Michael that he pointed this way is that
- 34:32Speaker 1: I didn't sign the contract. It was on me. It
- 34:34Speaker 1: was his play. He wrote the play and end up
- 34:36Speaker 1: in the library. He was there before me. So couldn't
- 34:39Speaker 1: he kind of big grudge and all that, or have
- 34:43Speaker 1: just have nastiness or in me of hatred directing like that?
- 34:46Speaker 1: So when I met him and he kind of shared
- 34:48Speaker 1: his kind of story, and what he done was that
- 34:49Speaker 1: he produced it for a while, then gave it to
- 34:51Speaker 1: somebody else. They produced it, and I kind of actually
- 34:54Speaker 1: seen something the other day. I've got a poster up
- 34:56Speaker 1: from my Spoken World event and I say the rise
- 34:59Speaker 1: of the Fall and the the return of Singing, I'm
- 35:01Speaker 1: not by lease of tim And I've seen somebody put
- 35:03Speaker 1: on line as if like if it was a slate
- 35:05Speaker 1: at some of the other guys that produced it, and
- 35:06Speaker 1: it wasn't. They We went to the Fringe and we
- 35:08Speaker 1: got a five star review and I won the award.
- 35:10Speaker 1: I won the Best Actor award. Two years later, when
- 35:12Speaker 1: i'd lost to show, I've seen a review and it
- 35:14Speaker 1: was a two star review right for the show at
- 35:16Speaker 1: the Fringe, and it was just saying in the review
- 35:18Speaker 1: it said, maybe it was the five star cast that
- 35:21Speaker 1: actually made it the show that it was. And I
- 35:23Speaker 1: was sitting there gone annoyed. No at the cast of
- 35:27Speaker 1: the reviewer annoyed. Days had took a product that was
- 35:30Speaker 1: really good and it was getting two star reviews, and
- 35:32Speaker 1: then I've seen a three star review and I'm sitting gone, Yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 1: a product that worked, Why did you break it? Do
- 35:36Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like kind of but I can.
- 35:40Speaker 1: I had a chat a wee chat when he passed it.
- 35:42Speaker 1: He said it passed only different people, people having to go,
- 35:44Speaker 1: And I said the magic formula was I wasn't trying
- 35:46Speaker 1: to make money at it. That was the magic formula
- 35:48Speaker 1: that none of them could figure it because always trying
- 35:50Speaker 1: to get a coin at it, sort of putting on
- 35:52Speaker 1: the version that they can try today. And I'm going, like,
- 35:54Speaker 1: even the new having six, you know, former football players
- 35:57Speaker 1: or people for the media is not a cheap thing
- 35:59Speaker 1: to hire. Like, we've got a cast of three and
- 36:01Speaker 1: I've made a cast at ten. Yeah, it's a lot
- 36:04Speaker 1: of the a three three had done is there. But
- 36:06Speaker 1: I could I couldn't just keep doing the same thing.
- 36:08Speaker 1: I want to make it exciting. It's going to be
- 36:09Speaker 1: more exciting and interesting for me. Sydney excites me. But
- 36:12Speaker 1: it's a big mountain. But that's what that's why flight.
- 36:19Speaker 1: But we'll get you on the boat. Was it was
- 36:20Speaker 1: it bell Cap never used to like.
- 36:22Speaker 2: Really sign for Sydney, really signed for Sydney either nor
- 36:28Speaker 2: the Terry Butcher.
- 36:29Speaker 1: I got the.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Terry Gither a two year day after Wolves.
- 36:35Speaker 1: I ended up changed.
- 36:39Speaker 2: I have a house season or that, but that I
- 36:41Speaker 2: don't generally don't like flying better than what I used
- 36:44Speaker 2: to be, but long haul flights anything over four years
- 36:49Speaker 2: right enough then to get to Sydney pels.
- 36:55Speaker 1: But that's it excited, that's that's things and that's what
- 36:59Speaker 1: I like. Yeam high I remember you mentioned that is
- 37:03Speaker 1: at the beginning and then watching from even the show
- 37:06Speaker 1: from when we've been in it, so we've been in
- 37:08Speaker 1: it maybe a year now, just a year, and or
- 37:11Speaker 1: the development you bring to the energy you bring to it.
- 37:15Speaker 1: It's good to be part of it. It's good to
- 37:17Speaker 1: be part of But my vision for the show, eventually
- 37:19Speaker 1: it will be like a kind of Arrangeing and Celtic
- 37:21Speaker 1: Billy and Tim comic con where you come during the
- 37:23Speaker 1: day when we're building the set and you can come
- 37:25Speaker 1: in and buy your merchandise and maybe meeting the players
- 37:27Speaker 1: and that kind of stuff, because that's what I like
- 37:28Speaker 1: to be working with Harrison Fold. I've got a chance
- 37:30Speaker 1: to spend on a halfway Wolf camera just me and him.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Wait when we were waiting on them setting up the
- 37:34Speaker 1: flying by the camera and had to chat with them,
- 37:36Speaker 1: And they're the bits that I don't want to pie
- 37:38Speaker 1: you twenty quid and get a selfie with some day.
- 37:40Speaker 1: I'd rather actually have a conversation or a year and that.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Like I've trying to do that at the events. So
- 37:44Speaker 1: if you buy a VIP ticket, you can come in
- 37:46Speaker 1: after the show, meet everybody, have a pint in the
- 37:47Speaker 1: bar rather than gett a thirty seconds or something. Just
- 37:51Speaker 1: lobby in the bar having a pint. Don't be that
- 37:53Speaker 1: Mendy's heed, but I just have having a drink in
- 37:55Speaker 1: the bar. So kind of that's the idea of the building, Tim.
- 37:58Speaker 1: I think it can go bigger, and I think that's
- 37:59Speaker 1: when sponsorships and I can come in, because sometimes the
- 38:03Speaker 1: new way of being a show is the only one
- 38:04Speaker 1: the audience in half an hour before the show, so
- 38:06Speaker 1: there wizz in past them that try to sell it.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Whereas if he did it somewhere and maybe the SECC
- 38:11Speaker 1: or something like that. They can have merchandise stalls and
- 38:13Speaker 1: that and a wee bit. Also, I like the idea
- 38:15Speaker 1: of bringing the fans of Gilla. I said, I share
- 38:17Speaker 1: the room my brother. The banner was as you know,
- 38:19Speaker 1: as high end as it can be. But there my brother,
- 38:22Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And I've always had mixed
- 38:24Speaker 1: mates and that kind of stuff. So the big thing
- 38:26Speaker 1: with the show is it's a fun bare about bringing
- 38:28Speaker 1: people together. And I always tell that of people. Because
- 38:30Speaker 1: there was different versions over the years, right and I
- 38:32Speaker 1: never seen any of them, so I couldn't possibly judge them.
- 38:34Speaker 1: But I did see some of the marketing. I thought
- 38:35Speaker 1: I was looking like it's leaning into a wee bit
- 38:37Speaker 1: of the biggoty as opposed to be a Nantiy sectarian.
- 38:39Speaker 1: And sometimes they'll chatt to one Jackie Form of Celtic
- 38:41Speaker 1: captains in the show simes on Celtic TV's guys want
- 38:44Speaker 1: to be associating themselves with anything other than an anti
- 38:46Speaker 1: sectarian player. That's fun and about bringing things together, gentleman
- 38:49Speaker 1: and having friendly ban on a bay a laugh with
- 38:51Speaker 1: your pals. But at the end of the day, they're
- 38:53Speaker 1: all coming together in a route. I think that's a
- 38:55Speaker 1: big messaging. I said that to at the beginning. That
- 38:57Speaker 1: was a big message obviously, me and Charlie came on board.
- 39:00Speaker 1: We did the football camps and it was the kids
- 39:02Speaker 1: and the parents saying and they were their colors and
- 39:03Speaker 1: you're of course you don't want to teach a kid
- 39:05Speaker 1: that they can't. Even the football strips of us similar
- 39:08Speaker 1: messages in the show that woman they get chucked to
- 39:11Speaker 1: it that night. Have you had any other bother if
- 39:12Speaker 1: you did any the pavilion the last time? For me,
- 39:17Speaker 1: even the lights got down on the Friday night after
- 39:20Speaker 1: it got no heated, but we were getting a bit
- 39:22Speaker 1: of stick obviously from Rangers and then til he was
- 39:25Speaker 1: getting for Celtic and it was like this could get
- 39:28Speaker 1: a wee bit lively. Have you had anything like that
- 39:30Speaker 1: at any of the shows before? Well, we did it
- 39:33Speaker 1: in berliny right and and I'm not being We'll go
- 39:38Speaker 1: be honest. When the first I was like, we're having
- 39:39Speaker 1: a Johnny Cash moment. I've gone wow, doing a prison
- 39:42Speaker 1: show and we're at the front and there's that there's
- 39:47Speaker 1: a bit in it where there's the Celtic van kind
- 39:50Speaker 1: of reveals something I don't like when he gave Casey's
- 39:53Speaker 1: see the show. But I know a lot of people
- 39:54Speaker 1: have seen the show because he's been doing for twenty years.
- 39:56Speaker 1: But he kind of says something that's that's controversial in
- 39:59Speaker 1: terms of and but the Rangers fan kind of quickly
- 40:01Speaker 1: nullifies it and it moves on quickly. But the colin
- 40:05Speaker 1: said that bit and a guy get up in the
- 40:07Speaker 1: front rotet Berlinny shut up as soon as he said
- 40:09Speaker 1: the line and stormed out right, and I'm going, I'm
- 40:11Speaker 1: going to speed this bart up then before we kick
- 40:14Speaker 1: off in BERLINI right, So I start speeding up, try
- 40:16Speaker 1: to get to the other. The punch line shows that
- 40:17Speaker 1: I give my get it gets it goes down the
- 40:19Speaker 1: boxing match. I'm id to get my job in quick
- 40:21Speaker 1: to level this up. So I get my jab in
- 40:24Speaker 1: and the big guy comes back down and sits doing.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Show goes on and after it, I was like the guards,
- 40:28Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, big guy, get up ship myself. He's like,
- 40:31Speaker 1: what Big John only went for a puss. In my head,
- 40:34Speaker 1: I was were in a prison or not. And I
- 40:37Speaker 1: think that's an aspect of that is that sometimes it's
- 40:39Speaker 1: in your head when you're on that stage, like what
- 40:41Speaker 1: tends to happen they start the show is we did
- 40:44Speaker 1: it for the Celtic song, then around your song and
- 40:47Speaker 1: someday maybe bitter that one of the songs. And then
- 40:50Speaker 1: the next song comes of the other person sitting next
- 40:52Speaker 1: to him going off. He's clapping his leg. I'm clapping
- 40:54Speaker 1: my leg, and then suddeny stands to fit and then
- 40:55Speaker 1: it gets a wee bit and depending as well. I
- 40:58Speaker 1: thought as well, because they be you and child, because
- 41:01Speaker 1: it's so new, we've never done it before either, so
- 41:03Speaker 1: it's bits. Well, Charlie was kind of getting a crowd
- 41:06Speaker 1: all gone and I'm saying just be careful and the
- 41:09Speaker 1: darkness going to care We don't get them to go
- 41:10Speaker 1: one Charlie and things that, like David Tanner would then
- 41:12Speaker 1: bring them back down to that. So David said to
- 41:14Speaker 1: me that he was looking for some feedback how we did.
- 41:17Speaker 1: She had been amazing mating. Honestly, I didn't get I said, now,
- 41:19Speaker 1: I would say, is that trying and settle them back
- 41:21Speaker 1: down when you hone the ball back to us because
- 41:23Speaker 1: an aspect, you usually like this pant although sometimes they're
- 41:26Speaker 1: getting all roused up and then the hond the ball
- 41:27Speaker 1: back to us and we're right, we're trying to tell
- 41:29Speaker 1: the serious story. But it's been the best move is
- 41:33Speaker 1: bringing you guys in. It's been absolutely brilliant for the
- 41:36Speaker 1: show and the audience a lam up as well, So continue.
- 41:40Speaker 1: I look forward to it. As I said on the Horizon, okay,
- 41:43Speaker 1: you've been a fabulous guest. We haven't even touched on
- 41:45Speaker 1: any music in this episode, but what we do is
- 41:48Speaker 1: we get a recommendation from our previous guest. It's a film,
- 41:53Speaker 1: an album and a song, so it was Craig Telfa
- 41:57Speaker 1: was our last guest and the film is branches of
- 41:59Speaker 1: in this sharing you see it no surprising, really good film,
- 42:04Speaker 1: should watch it. Album is Hats from Blue and Isle
- 42:08Speaker 1: and the song is from a Bank of nurised by
- 42:11Speaker 1: Time Max Potential. So they're the recommendations for it. Firmly
- 42:15Speaker 1: strongly recommend the film really good. We like it, so
- 42:18Speaker 1: have you get three for us three fees. My favorite
- 42:21Speaker 1: film is The Rock The Big Sean Connery, right, I
- 42:25Speaker 1: absolutely love the Rock movie. I know as well as
- 42:28Speaker 1: is hearing the Scottish accent on on its well, I
- 42:31Speaker 1: think he's supposed to be it's a play on He's
- 42:32Speaker 1: James Bond after he went to James Bond, which I
- 42:35Speaker 1: quite like to know. Album wise, I would probably go
- 42:38Speaker 1: away David Gray White Ladder because when I was was
- 42:42Speaker 1: my teens, that was that was an album with my
- 42:44Speaker 1: teens loved listen to White Ladder. And I've seen David Gray,
- 42:46Speaker 1: I think about five or six times. Didn't you see
- 42:47Speaker 1: him as well? In terms of a song, that would
- 42:51Speaker 1: be The Manic Street Preachers, who I've also seen a
- 42:54Speaker 1: number of times, and it's if you tolerate this, then
- 42:57Speaker 1: your children will be next. So what a song I mean,
- 42:59Speaker 1: that's it takes me back in the nineties late nineties.
- 43:04Speaker 1: We went we went to see them, I think in
- 43:06Speaker 1: the tenth anniversary and then on the twentieth anniversary, and
- 43:09Speaker 1: I took a group of my mates. Seeing my mates,
- 43:11Speaker 1: I'm the ticket guy book I spend on the money
- 43:14Speaker 1: in the credit can and get try to chase money
- 43:16Speaker 1: up after them, and I took them to see like
- 43:18Speaker 1: the Mannus and they didn't really know how much about
- 43:21Speaker 1: the Mannix and then they loved them, and I took
- 43:22Speaker 1: them to see it was the twenty year anniversary was
- 43:24Speaker 1: and they were supported by this warm up act and
- 43:27Speaker 1: we never went to see warm up packs end, but
- 43:29Speaker 1: we passed the menderal Pin and a song come on
- 43:31Speaker 1: and the song went with this O God, so Sola,
- 43:36Speaker 1: what the fuck is? That was the Killers, the Killers
- 43:39Speaker 1: before they were Shoes. I was supporting secc Sec and
- 43:44Speaker 1: the same we went a I loved Razor Light. I
- 43:47Speaker 1: really liked rasally and they were supporting the Manx. Maybe
- 43:50Speaker 1: it was the maybe it was the tenth it was
- 43:51Speaker 1: Killers in the twentieth was Razor Light and I went
- 43:54Speaker 1: in and Raise Light had got really big. They went
- 43:56Speaker 1: on a a chat show with Billy Corn named Tom
- 43:58Speaker 1: Cruise Parkinson and they were singing on it the sing
- 44:02Speaker 1: Golden Touch and they went through the roof and then
- 44:03Speaker 1: they're on the supporting enemy. They didn't gig. That was it.
- 44:06Speaker 1: And when I was like, I was saying, the guys
- 44:07Speaker 1: are black cos it's got to be rasonly and the
- 44:09Speaker 1: man I think the Manics, I'm sure I've seen social
- 44:11Speaker 1: I think they'll beginning. They're coming back to tour this year.
- 44:14Speaker 1: The Mannis will be the thirty somebody else, but I can't.
- 44:20Speaker 1: I know you're the man to get the tickets Simon,
- 44:22Speaker 1: I've watched the podcast, You're the man like spots. I'm
- 44:25Speaker 1: just inviting guests on here so we can black tickets
- 44:27Speaker 1: that we can transmit, transmit Mo Wanglers ran several places.
- 44:34Speaker 1: But you've been a fantastic guess mate, and look forward
- 44:36Speaker 1: to working me in the future and hopefully we can
- 44:39Speaker 1: get that. Was it one over the line? Absolutely thanks
- 44:41Speaker 1: Fathering
