Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: Welcome back in everybody to GM territory. Dad, I'm loving
- 0:09Speaker 1: the swag on you right now. They got the GM
- 0:11Speaker 1: territory sweatshirt.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Let's go, baby.
- 0:13Speaker 1: All right, everyone, we are going to break down our
- 0:17Speaker 1: top 20 impending free agents for this offseason. Jim, let's
- 0:22Speaker 1: start with number one. Who do we got?
- 0:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty easy, right? It's Tarek Skubal.
- 0:26Speaker 3: And by the way, as soon as the World Series ends,
- 0:29Speaker 3: it's going to be a sprint to free agency because
- 0:32Speaker 3: if there's a lockout at the beginning of December, there's
- 0:35Speaker 3: a lot of agents, a lot of players, and a
- 0:37Speaker 3: lot of teams that want to get the business done
- 0:40Speaker 3: before the lockout. So I'm expecting a flurry of moves
- 0:44Speaker 3: in the month of November. It's going to be fascinating.
- 0:46Speaker 3: But As you said, number one, it's Tarek Skubal, as
- 0:50Speaker 3: you know. He won the Cy Young Award in 24
- 0:53Speaker 3: and 25. Didn't win one this year because he had
- 0:56Speaker 3: an elbow surgery and he was traded at the deadline
- 0:58Speaker 3: from the Tigers to the Dodgers. But make no doubt
- 1:02Speaker 3: about it. He's about to be the highest paid pitcher
- 1:05Speaker 3: in baseball history. And whether that's average annual value or
- 1:09Speaker 3: whether it's the total sum, I don't know.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I can't tell you. Someone said, tell me how much
- 1:14Speaker 2: you think he's going to get. I'm going to.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Say between $ 350 and $ 500 million, depending on how many
- 1:20Speaker 3: years he gets. But he's going to break records.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I know that.
- 1:24Speaker 3: So that one's really easy. And the other, let's talk
- 1:27Speaker 3: about two and three as well, if we could, Trey.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Because I think the three really stand out. Freddy Peralta
- 1:34Speaker 3: went way up this list. I mean, what he did
- 1:38Speaker 3: with Tampa Bay after they acquired him from the Mets
- 1:40Speaker 3: is is he brought back all of his value. And
- 1:44Speaker 3: this is a pitcher that has pitched 30 games, started
- 1:47Speaker 3: 30 games or more for four consecutive seasons.
- 1:51Speaker 2: That's hard to do.
- 1:52Speaker 3: And his value as a member of the Mets at
- 1:54Speaker 3: the trade deadline, like he wasn't even going to be
- 1:57Speaker 3: a top 10 free agent. But in the second half
- 2:00Speaker 3: after Kyle Snyder, the pitching coach of the Rays, worked
- 2:02Speaker 3: with him, fixed him, got the extension back, got the
- 2:06Speaker 3: arm angle up, got him back throwing 97 with that
- 2:09Speaker 3: nasty changeup. Fastball Freddy has been dominating ever since. And
- 2:14Speaker 3: Fastball Freddy is going to get paid. I can't tell
- 2:17Speaker 3: you if it's 140, 150, 160, 170 million, but I
- 2:21Speaker 3: got him number two. And then the third, the guy
- 2:24Speaker 3: that's third on the top 10, Trey, fascinating. Taraki Sato,
- 2:30Speaker 3: the third baseman from Japan. We're talking about a guy
- 2:33Speaker 3: that just won the Triple Crown and just was named
- 2:37Speaker 3: the MVP of the MPB. Do you know, Trey, the
- 2:42Speaker 3: last Japanese player who won the MVP and then signed
- 2:46Speaker 3: with an MLB team the next year? Otani?
- 2:50Speaker 4: Nope.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Murakami? Nope. I love the guesses.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Nope.
- 2:55Speaker 2: How about Hideki Matsui?
- 2:58Speaker 1: Wow.
- 2:59Speaker 2: He was the last one.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Yeah, you would have thought it was Otani, right, or Yamamoto.
- 3:04Speaker 3: But no, it was Sato. So Sato, to me, really
- 3:08Speaker 3: good fit with the Yankees. Red Sox, Phillies. This is
- 3:12Speaker 3: a power guy. Now, there's a lot of strikeout in
- 3:14Speaker 3: his game. There's a lot of strikeouts in the zone
- 3:16Speaker 3: and out of the zone. There are people that are
- 3:17Speaker 3: worried about it. I like him better than Murakami.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I do.
- 3:22Speaker 3: I think he's got a chance to be a star player.
- 3:24Speaker 3: And can you imagine him and Judge and Bellinger in
- 3:27Speaker 3: that lineup together at Yankee Stadium? If I am the Yankees,
- 3:31Speaker 3: I'm playing checkbook baseball and Sato's going to be a Yankee,
- 3:34Speaker 3: but I got to tell you, if I'm Boston, I'm
- 3:35Speaker 3: not going to let him do it. If I'm Philadelphia,
- 3:38Speaker 3: I am adding him. If they're going to really try
- 3:40Speaker 3: to win Philadelphia, I mean, Sato would be a game
- 3:43Speaker 3: changer for them at third base. So anyway, I think,
- 3:46Speaker 3: I think those are the top three free agents, Scooble,
- 3:49Speaker 3: Peralta and Sato. You and I have talked about it.
- 3:51Speaker 3: So let's go to four to six. Why don't you
- 3:54Speaker 3: break down who we have four to six on our
- 3:56Speaker 3: top 20 free agents?
- 3:58Speaker 1: Yeah. And number four, we have Michael King. We all
- 4:00Speaker 1: know this guy is durable and I'd like to see
- 4:03Speaker 1: him back in San Diego. I can see the Cubs
- 4:05Speaker 1: making a push for him. The Chicago Cubs, in my opinion,
- 4:08Speaker 1: they got to get an arm, right? They got to
- 4:10Speaker 1: get someone to slide into that starting rotation, whether they're
- 4:12Speaker 1: going to put an offer in for Freddie or Scooble.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Michael King, I think that's a great fit. At five,
- 4:19Speaker 1: Randy Rosarino. He has been a breakout surprise for me
- 4:25Speaker 1: this past season. And I like him in Philly. I
- 4:28Speaker 1: really do. Depending on what they decide to do this offseason, Randy,
- 4:31Speaker 1: right-handed power bat, I think fits in very nicely. And
- 4:35Speaker 1: then say a Suzuki, right? He had 270 this past season,
- 4:39Speaker 1: 26 home runs. You know, he's had 25 plus home
- 4:42Speaker 1: runs each last couple of years. And he's another right-handed
- 4:45Speaker 1: bat I'd like to see in Philly. But I think
- 4:47Speaker 1: the Cubs would try to probably re-sign him. You know,
- 4:50Speaker 1: it's going to be between Ian Happ and him. who
- 4:53Speaker 1: they're going to keep. And I think they'll probably make
- 4:55Speaker 1: an offer at Saya Suzuki. Jim, what is your thoughts
- 4:59Speaker 1: on four through six here?
- 5:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm with you. I love all three guys, no
- 5:03Speaker 3: doubt about it. I mean, Michael King, great to see
- 5:06Speaker 3: him back. Put up a 4-3 war this year to
- 5:08Speaker 3: go with that 3-2-1 earned run average. Solid starter, great makeup. I, too,
- 5:13Speaker 3: would like to see him back in San Diego, but
- 5:15Speaker 3: there's going to be a lot of teams that are
- 5:17Speaker 3: going to be bidding on Scubo, Peralta, and King because
- 5:19Speaker 3: they are the three best starting pitchers in this class.
- 5:22Speaker 3: A thing I love about a Rosarena is six straight
- 5:25Speaker 3: years of at least 20 homers and at least 20 steals.
- 5:28Speaker 2: So I love that.
- 5:29Speaker 3: And say a Suzuki, I mean, 131 OPS, 26 home runs,
- 5:34Speaker 3: 96 RBIs, a 5-1 war. There's a lot of teams
- 5:37Speaker 3: looking for right-handed power. So he's going to get a
- 5:39Speaker 3: lot of bidding there. All right, let's get to the
- 5:42Speaker 3: next one at number seven, Jake Bauer. You talk about
- 5:44Speaker 3: a guy that's value has skyrocketed this year.
- 5:48Speaker 2: It's him.
- 5:49Speaker 3: First time in his career he's ever had 500 plate appearances.
- 5:52Speaker 3: First time in his career he's ever been an everyday player.
- 5:54Speaker 3: And he has been solid and consistent. 874 slug, 21
- 5:59Speaker 3: home runs. And he was the LCS MVP. Great makeup,
- 6:03Speaker 3: great character. There's going to be a lot of teams
- 6:05Speaker 3: who want a first baseman that will be chasing him.
- 6:08Speaker 3: And then we get Jazz Chisholm, 19 homers, 41 steals,
- 6:12Speaker 3: low batting average, inconsistent defensively, sometimes makes a boneheaded play,
- 6:17Speaker 3: has a lot of swag, style. I like the player,
- 6:21Speaker 3: but I think it's time that the Yankees move on
- 6:23Speaker 3: from him. I think they might be better off letting
- 6:27Speaker 3: Volpe play second, Lombard play short, and maybe use that
- 6:30Speaker 3: money for Chisholm, maybe put a third base for Sato
- 6:33Speaker 3: instead of Chisholm. But look, there's going to be a
- 6:36Speaker 3: lot of teams that are bidding on jazz as well.
- 6:39Speaker 5: This is the call of the Australian rubber bird.
- 6:42Speaker 6: Snap!
- 6:43Speaker 1: Snap!
- 6:44Speaker 5: This is the call of the Alaskan chili bird.
- 6:47Speaker 6: Kiki, kiki, kiki, geez, it's cold.
- 6:49Speaker 5: Kiki, kiki, kiki, geez, it's cold.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Geez, it's cold.
- 6:51Speaker 5: And this is the call of the marathon mascot bald eagle, Max.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Hi, it's Max. Hello.
- 6:57Speaker 5: Did you know you could save up to a dollar
- 6:58Speaker 5: a gallon with the Marathon Rewards app?
- 7:00Speaker 4: No.
- 7:01Speaker 5: Thanks for the call. Marathon, where fun runs on full.
- 7:05Speaker 5: Available at participating Marathon locations. Terms and conditions apply. See
- 7:07Speaker 5: MarathonRewards.com for details.
- 7:08Speaker 3: All right, let's get to 9 and 10.
- 7:11Speaker 2: What do we have at 9 and 10? At 9,
- 7:14Speaker 2: we have Brandon Lau.
- 7:15Speaker 1: And this guy hit. Yeah, absolutely hit. He's been doing
- 7:18Speaker 1: it for a long time in his career. Had 35
- 7:21Speaker 1: home runs with the Pirates this past season. I'd like
- 7:23Speaker 1: to see the Pirates re-sign him and bring him back.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I can also see if the Yankees let Jazz walk,
- 7:28Speaker 1: bringing Brandon to Yankee Stadium. I really like that. And
- 7:33Speaker 1: then I like the Phillies, too, as kind of a
- 7:34Speaker 1: sleeper team, depending if they want to go after a
- 7:38Speaker 1: rise or not. So Brandon Lau, big fan of his.
- 7:41Speaker 1: And then Clay Holmes as well. You know, he had
- 7:44Speaker 1: a really good season. I didn't really expect to see
- 7:47Speaker 1: this kind of production from him. And I'd like to
- 7:50Speaker 1: see Chicago re-sign him. Look, he's already in-house. You know,
- 7:53Speaker 1: he has that chemistry in the locker room with all
- 7:55Speaker 1: the guys or in the clubhouse, pardon me. And I'd
- 7:58Speaker 1: like to see Clay back in Chicago. What are your
- 8:01Speaker 1: thoughts on Brandon and Clay?
- 8:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, look, if Lau can stay healthy, he's
- 8:06Speaker 3: one of the best power-hitting second basemen in the game.
- 8:08Speaker 3: The problem in his career is trying to stay healthy,
- 8:11Speaker 3: but I love the power.
- 8:12Speaker 2: There's no question about it. I mean, it's real.
- 8:14Speaker 3: And 35 homers, 96 RBIs, when he plays every day,
- 8:18Speaker 3: that's what you get. It's going to be interesting to
- 8:20Speaker 3: see what kind of length he gets in a contract
- 8:23Speaker 3: just because his injury history. I think there's going to
- 8:26Speaker 3: be teams that are going to be reluctant to give
- 8:28Speaker 3: him a long-term deal, but certainly– We know what he
- 8:31Speaker 3: can do. He showed it this year. And then for
- 8:33Speaker 3: Clay Holmes, I love the bowling ball, the sinker that
- 8:36Speaker 3: he's got. He gets a lot of ground balls, high
- 8:38Speaker 3: ground ball rate. The other thing, too, is with Clay Holmes,
- 8:41Speaker 3: I think he's a solid third or fourth type of starter,
- 8:44Speaker 3: but he can also pitch out of the bullpen as well.
- 8:47Speaker 3: So I think there'll be a lot of teams that
- 8:50Speaker 3: are searching for him. He didn't pitch as well for
- 8:55Speaker 3: the Cubs as he did for the Mets. I'm not
- 8:56Speaker 3: really worried about that, but I'm a big Clay Holmes fan.
- 8:59Speaker 3: So Let's go over our top ten again. Tarek Skubal
- 9:04Speaker 3: is one. Freddie Peralta, two. Taraki Sato is three. Michael King, four.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Randy Rosarena, five. Seiya Suzuki is six. Jake Bowers, seven.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Jazz Chisholm, eight. Brandon Lau, nine. And Clay Holmes, ten.
- 9:18Speaker 3: That's a strong 10. There's no question about it. It's
- 9:21Speaker 3: going to be fascinating to see where these guys land
- 9:23Speaker 3: and how many of the 10 sign before the potential
- 9:27Speaker 3: lockout in the beginning of December. You want to give
- 9:30Speaker 3: me a guess of how many you think of the
- 9:31Speaker 3: 10 will sign by then? Actually, I'll ask it this way.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Over under five sign between now and December 1.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Oh, over. I'm going to take the over just because
- 9:42Speaker 1: I really want I want to see it happen. What
- 9:44Speaker 1: about you?
- 9:45Speaker 3: I'm going to go under. I don't think it's going
- 9:49Speaker 3: to be as easy. I think there's going to be
- 9:51Speaker 3: a lot of clubs that are going to say, well,
- 9:53Speaker 3: if we do get a cap, I got to know
- 9:55Speaker 3: that before I lay down this kind of money.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I need to know what. work environment.
- 10:00Speaker 3: So I think there's more incentive for the player to
- 10:03Speaker 3: sign before the beginning of December. And I think some
- 10:06Speaker 3: of the higher, bigger market teams are going to have
- 10:08Speaker 3: a hard time bidding. Small and middle markets are going
- 10:10Speaker 3: to be easier because they're going to have a lot
- 10:12Speaker 3: of payroll room with the cap. But those guys at
- 10:15Speaker 3: the top, those big market teams are They may want
- 10:19Speaker 3: to wait to see what the system is.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I do have a sleeper team for you who I
- 10:23Speaker 1: think is going to be pretty active in the offseason.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I think that's going to be the Anaheim Angels. I
- 10:30Speaker 1: think with the new ownership in place, I'd love to
- 10:32Speaker 1: see them go after some of these guys like Freddy Peralta.
- 10:35Speaker 1: That'd be a big one. Even Jazz Chisholm. Disregard the
- 10:39Speaker 1: fits and everything in that nature. I want to see
- 10:43Speaker 1: the ownership be like, hey, we're here to win baseball.
- 10:45Speaker 1: We're here to play. Let's see it.
- 10:47Speaker 3: I think The big question with that is who's going
- 10:50Speaker 3: to make the decisions, right? They have to hire their
- 10:52Speaker 3: leadership team. They don't have a GM. They don't have
- 10:55Speaker 3: a manager. So we don't know what Stan Kroenke is
- 10:58Speaker 3: going to do in terms of that. But I think
- 11:00Speaker 3: once he hires the people and puts them in place,
- 11:03Speaker 3: hopefully sooner rather than later, hopefully it will happen right
- 11:06Speaker 3: at the end of the World Series perhaps. But, yeah,
- 11:09Speaker 3: I think they'll spend some money and try to be respectable.
- 11:11Speaker 3: You know, the question always becomes, though, If you're a
- 11:14Speaker 3: top free agent, do you want to go to the
- 11:16Speaker 3: Angels that are rebuilding? Or do you want to go
- 11:18Speaker 3: to a team where you have a chance to win?
- 11:20Speaker 3: You know, a lot of times if the money's close,
- 11:22Speaker 3: free agents like to go to a place where they
- 11:24Speaker 3: can win right away instead of waiting three or four years.
- 11:28Speaker 2: But I do think the Angels will be aggressive. I
- 11:30Speaker 2: think that's a good prediction.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I did have this thought the other night when I
- 11:34Speaker 1: was watching the Brewers and Rays game one. And I
- 11:37Speaker 1: was thinking about Jake Bowers, you know, because I know
- 11:39Speaker 1: he's in our top 10, right? He got so much
- 11:42Speaker 1: time at the plate this year, more than he's ever seen,
- 11:45Speaker 1: and he produced. If the Brewers win the World Series,
- 11:49Speaker 1: I would think as a player, if I have a ring,
- 11:52Speaker 1: I'm just chasing the money after that, right?
- 11:54Speaker 2: I think everybody wants to get paid, right?
- 11:59Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:00Speaker 3: I think a lot of times when teams are bidding,
- 12:02Speaker 3: you know, Milwaukee has a pretty good revenue coming in
- 12:05Speaker 3: because they're in the world series. They can afford to
- 12:08Speaker 3: keep them. And sometimes, you know, players want to run
- 12:11Speaker 3: it back, right?
- 12:12Speaker 2: They want to win.
- 12:12Speaker 3: So I think he'd be a great fit on the
- 12:14Speaker 3: New York Mets. That's kind of the team that I'm eyeballing,
- 12:17Speaker 3: but you know, if the Brewers have a chance to
- 12:19Speaker 3: match whatever else is out there, I think they would
- 12:22Speaker 3: have a legitimate shot of bringing them back. But to
- 12:25Speaker 3: your point, you know, I, I, Definitely think when you
- 12:30Speaker 3: get to this point, like Jake Bowers is, this is
- 12:32Speaker 3: his one-time opportunity in life to get paid. So it's
- 12:37Speaker 3: going to be hard not to take the most money
- 12:38Speaker 3: in most years, but his hope probably will be that
- 12:42Speaker 3: Milwaukee is willing to match whatever's out there on the market.
- 12:45Speaker 3: So that's what's fun about free agency. You never know
- 12:47Speaker 3: how it's going to play out.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Got one more question for you. Clay Holmes, Jazz Chisholm,
- 12:53Speaker 1: who's getting a better deal here?
- 12:56Speaker 3: You know, I think Chisholm is going to get a
- 12:58Speaker 3: better deal because of his youth and the upside. And,
- 13:02Speaker 3: you know, 19 homers and 41 steals on a bad
- 13:04Speaker 3: year isn't bad, right? What if he had hit this year?
- 13:07Speaker 3: What if he had lived through his capabilities? I mean,
- 13:09Speaker 3: it could have been 25-50, right, pretty easily. You know,
- 13:13Speaker 3: and I just think there's a lot of teams, a
- 13:15Speaker 3: lot of second division teams that are going to want
- 13:17Speaker 3: to chase after Jazz to add talent, right? I think
- 13:20Speaker 3: he fits on a lot of different clubs. So we'll
- 13:22Speaker 3: see how it goes. how that plays out. I also
- 13:25Speaker 3: think if he goes in the right environment, he could benefit.
- 13:29Speaker 3: For example, the Padres. If you put him at second base,
- 13:32Speaker 3: move Cronenworth to first, I think guys like Fernando Tatis Jr.,
- 13:36Speaker 3: Jackson Merrill, and Manny Machado could maybe rein him in
- 13:40Speaker 3: and help him develop to the next level. That would
- 13:43Speaker 3: be a fun clubhouse for him, I think.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Absolutely. And I actually did misspeak there. I meant to say,
- 13:49Speaker 1: is it Jazz or Bowers? Who's getting the better deal
- 13:52Speaker 1: between Bowers or Jazz?
- 13:55Speaker 3: It's going to probably be Jazz. He probably gets a
- 13:57Speaker 3: longer term deal with a bigger track record, I would guess.
- 14:02Speaker 3: And they're not really comparable players, but I would guess Jazz.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Would be my guess.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Makes sense.
- 14:09Speaker 2: All right.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Why don't we move on to our 11 through 20 now?
- 14:13Speaker 1: Let's start with this is one of your favorites, Jim.
- 14:15Speaker 1: So I'm going to let you take this one. Number
- 14:18Speaker 1: 11 on our list, Adrian Morhaan.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I love him.
- 14:22Speaker 3: I mean, he's one of the best left-hand relievers in baseball.
- 14:25Speaker 3: He's a high leverage reliever. He can set up, he
- 14:27Speaker 3: can close, he can be a lefty specialist. He can
- 14:30Speaker 3: pitch multiple innings. Um, yeah, he's going to get paid, right?
- 14:35Speaker 3: He's going to become one of the highest paid left-handed
- 14:37Speaker 3: high leverage relievers in the game. A lot of teams
- 14:40Speaker 3: are going to be chasing more on, I'd love to
- 14:42Speaker 3: see him stay in San Diego, but if not, I
- 14:44Speaker 3: think he's a really good fit with the New York Yankees.
- 14:47Speaker 3: I think that would be the spot for him. Uh,
- 14:50Speaker 3: So he's at 11 at number 12, New York Yankee
- 14:53Speaker 3: closer David Bednar. He's the best closer on the market,
- 14:55Speaker 3: 35 saves, a 2-4-7 ERA. I think a return to
- 14:59Speaker 3: the Yankees makes a lot of sense here. There'll be
- 15:02Speaker 3: a lot of teams, again, on him just because it's
- 15:04Speaker 3: a very short market for starters. And then Nick Martinez
- 15:08Speaker 3: after that, despite the 35 years old, the game one
- 15:12Speaker 3: starter in the World Series for.
- 15:13Speaker 2: The Tampa Bay Rays.
- 15:15Speaker 3: I mean, you know, he'll get a multi-year deal this
- 15:17Speaker 3: time around. I don't think– He'll have to just get
- 15:20Speaker 3: the qualifying offer. I think he'll get a two-year deal,
- 15:22Speaker 3: and I think he deserves it. Boy, I mean, every time,
- 15:25Speaker 3: it seems like every time he pitched down the stretch
- 15:28Speaker 3: for Tampa, they just won. It was unbelievable, like incredible.
- 15:33Speaker 3: So congrats to him on a great year. I love
- 15:36Speaker 3: what Nick brought to the table on a nightly basis.
- 15:39Speaker 2: It was really special.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. Nick Martinez, he's one of those players to
- 15:45Speaker 1: where I'm like, you know, he's 36 years old. You know,
- 15:48Speaker 1: he's not he's not like he's getting any younger, but
- 15:51Speaker 1: he is still performing, you know, at pretty much an
- 15:54Speaker 1: all star level this time. So I would like to
- 15:57Speaker 1: see Nick Martinez potentially with the Rays again because of
- 16:01Speaker 1: his success there and maybe with the Giants.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Think about the Giants for a second. That's a really
- 16:07Speaker 1: young team to where you bring in a Nick Martinez,
- 16:10Speaker 1: especially when you're trying to develop a pitching staff and
- 16:12Speaker 1: start winning games again. A guy with a lot of
- 16:15Speaker 1: experience is always good to have in the clubhouse. So
- 16:18Speaker 1: I am kind of thinking he'll probably end up back
- 16:21Speaker 1: with the Rays logically, but emotionally, I want to see
- 16:24Speaker 1: him with the Giants.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Okay.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Let's go to 14 and 15. A couple of southpaws.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Kind of hard to line these up. Could have gone
- 16:32Speaker 3: either way. I chose to go to Foster Griffin at 14.
- 16:37Speaker 3: He was 12-3 with Washington with a 3-0-6. He was
- 16:40Speaker 3: one of the best undervalued free agents last offseason. Got
- 16:44Speaker 3: traded to Cleveland and didn't pitch as well, 3-3 with
- 16:47Speaker 3: a 5-1-9 with Cleveland. But that ERA is kind of
- 16:51Speaker 3: misleading because if you go to his FIP, Fielding Independent Pitching,
- 16:55Speaker 3: it was 3-5-4. So he pitched better than what the
- 16:58Speaker 3: traditional stats were saying. But I really like Foster Griffin.
- 17:01Speaker 3: He knows how to pitch. And I think he'll be
- 17:04Speaker 3: better next year than he was this year. I think
- 17:05Speaker 3: he's a solid mid-rotation left-handed starter. I'd love to see
- 17:09Speaker 3: the Pittsburgh Pirates land Foster Griffin. They really need a
- 17:12Speaker 3: left-handed starter in that rotation. And I think Griffin would
- 17:15Speaker 3: be great, or the next guy on our list would
- 17:17Speaker 3: be absolutely great too at number 15, and that's Trevor Rogers. Look,
- 17:22Speaker 3: he had a really good season, 10 wins in a
- 17:25Speaker 3: four-year array as a member of the Baltimore Orioles. They hit.
- 17:30Speaker 3: 227 against his fourth seamer, just. 187 against his sweeper.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Like him a lot as well. I think Orioles, Cubs,
- 17:37Speaker 3: White Sox, Blue Jays, Pirates all fit kind of for
- 17:40Speaker 3: Trevor Rogers, so Yeah, so Morhan 11, Nick Martinez 12,
- 17:44Speaker 3: David Bednar 13, Foster Griffin 14, and then Trevor Rogers 15.
- 17:48Speaker 3: That's the top 15 free agents in this year's class.
- 17:52Speaker 3: So now let's get the 16 to 20.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 17:56Speaker 3: You take this former Tiger Padre and start at 16.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Okay, Kratzy, here we are again, man. How many times
- 18:04Speaker 4: do we have to tell people to get the best
- 18:06Speaker 4: tickets in the house? Where do we got to go?
- 18:08Speaker 4: We got to go to SeatGeek. It's been worth it.
- 18:11Speaker 4: So many times, so many years. The green light will
- 18:13Speaker 4: let you know when it is time to go and
- 18:16Speaker 4: the best seats available. The red will let you know
- 18:18Speaker 4: if it's not the best. Crafty, tell them how easy
- 18:20Speaker 4: it is.
- 18:21Speaker 6: Todd, I know it's easy, but I'm looking for the
- 18:24Speaker 6: deals because that's what I do. Even so much, like
- 18:28Speaker 6: we're getting such a good deal, I want you to
- 18:29Speaker 6: come across the river and we'll go to a Sixers
- 18:32Speaker 6: game together. I don't know where to sit in the stadium,
- 18:35Speaker 6: but it'll let me know that's a perfect view because
- 18:38Speaker 6: I'm not a big NBA fan. but I got to
- 18:40Speaker 6: go see the Sixers play with LeBron and the boys.
- 18:43Speaker 4: And of course I have a code for you all.
- 18:45Speaker 4: You can use code territory 10 for 10% off your
- 18:48Speaker 4: next set of tickets at SeatGeek. That's 10% of all
- 18:51Speaker 4: tickets with promo code territory 10. Make sure you click
- 18:55Speaker 4: the link in the description to download the app and
- 18:57Speaker 4: have the code automatically added to your account so you
- 19:00Speaker 4: can use it later.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Yeah, look, I think he kind of dropped on our
- 19:04Speaker 1: list as soon as he went to the Padres, right?
- 19:07Speaker 1: I mean, I was expecting a little bit more from
- 19:09Speaker 1: him towards the end of the season. He pitched very
- 19:13Speaker 1: well in Detroit. Obviously, he had some injuries. Casey Mize
- 19:17Speaker 1: is someone that I still believe in. Look, he's only
- 19:20Speaker 1: 29 years old. I think a really good fit for
- 19:22Speaker 1: him would also be the Giants or potentially a reunion
- 19:26Speaker 1: back in Detroit, right where he, listen, had a 319
- 19:28Speaker 1: ERA in 22 starts at Comerica. So So another option
- 19:34Speaker 1: for Casey Mize to me would probably be the Chicago Cubs.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I know when we were going over the trade deadline,
- 19:41Speaker 1: we kind of saw him as a potential fit there.
- 19:42Speaker 1: So for Casey Mize, those are kind of the three
- 19:46Speaker 1: landing spots I would expect for him. How do you
- 19:49Speaker 1: feel about that?
- 19:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I like those spots for him, for sure. Next
- 19:53Speaker 3: on our list, we got Luis Uriah. He's the second
- 19:55Speaker 3: baseman of the Phillies. He started the year with the Giants.
- 19:57Speaker 3: He's won three batting titles in his career this year,
- 20:00Speaker 3: did what he normally does at 310. Um, you know, the,
- 20:04Speaker 3: the problem with a rise is not a lot of
- 20:05Speaker 3: home run power, not, not a lot of stolen base speed,
- 20:08Speaker 3: but the good part about a rise this year, he
- 20:10Speaker 3: had his best year defensively of his career. When he
- 20:13Speaker 3: was a member of the giants, he worked a lot of, uh,
- 20:16Speaker 3: infield work with Ron Washington, uh, learned some new drills
- 20:19Speaker 3: and it really helped him. And he was really good defensively.
- 20:22Speaker 3: And when he got to Philadelphia, uh, he really gave
- 20:25Speaker 3: a boost to that lineup. Um, This is a guy
- 20:27Speaker 3: that makes contact, puts the ball in play, doesn't hit
- 20:30Speaker 3: the ball very hard, but he gets his hits. And
- 20:32Speaker 3: that's what he brings to the table. I'd love to
- 20:35Speaker 3: see him stay in Philly. I think it was a
- 20:36Speaker 3: really good spot, really good home for him. But I
- 20:39Speaker 3: like the swing. Really impressive, without a doubt. Next on
- 20:43Speaker 3: our list is the most intriguing of all. I've never
- 20:47Speaker 3: seen him in person. Kaima Tyra. He is a right-handed pitcher.
- 20:52Speaker 3: They call him a fire hydrant.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Because he's 5'8, 230 pounds. And he looks like a
- 20:58Speaker 3: fire hydrant.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 20:59Speaker 3: I'm not making fun of him. This is what his
- 21:01Speaker 3: nickname is. I want you to listen to this. He
- 21:03Speaker 3: had a 126 ERA.
- 21:05Speaker 1: 126.
- 21:05Speaker 2: All right?
- 21:07Speaker 3: And that's in 146 innings of work.
- 21:10Speaker 2: He was a reliever. Now he's a starter.
- 21:12Speaker 3: I don't know if he starts or relieves here. He
- 21:15Speaker 3: is fascinating on video. I love him on video. There
- 21:20Speaker 3: haven't been a lot of 5'8 starting pitchers in the
- 21:22Speaker 3: big leagues. Not that it can't happen. So I don't
- 21:25Speaker 3: know if he starts, relieves. I've talked to some teams.
- 21:27Speaker 3: They're kind of mixed on him. But kind of love
- 21:31Speaker 3: the tape. I wish I could see him in person.
- 21:34Speaker 3: But the tape, you sit there and go, wow. I mean,
- 21:37Speaker 3: if everybody on this list that I go, do I
- 21:39Speaker 3: have him too low?
- 21:41Speaker 2: He would be the guy.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Wow.
- 21:43Speaker 3: Like I could see him top 10. I could see
- 21:46Speaker 3: him top five.
- 21:47Speaker 6: Oh, wow.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Like that's I don't know what he is. I
- 21:51Speaker 2: can't tell.
- 21:52Speaker 3: But he is the most intriguing fire hydrant of my life.
- 21:55Speaker 2: And I will not park our in front of him.
- 21:58Speaker 2: I promise.
- 21:58Speaker 3: And I promise you, my dog will not lift his
- 22:01Speaker 3: right leg when he sees Tyra.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Hey, yes, thankfully, thankfully that will not happen. Yeah, he
- 22:08Speaker 1: is super intriguing. I'm excited to see where he lands
- 22:11Speaker 1: and I'm excited to see him in person. That's going
- 22:13Speaker 1: to be an awesome experience. I kind of see him
- 22:16Speaker 1: based on his career, maybe probably in the bullpen. But,
- 22:23Speaker 1: you know, I can also see him starting again. It's
- 22:25Speaker 1: just it's such an unknown. We really won't know until
- 22:28Speaker 1: we get to see him on a big league team. uh,
- 22:31Speaker 1: at number 19, this is probably one of my, uh,
- 22:34Speaker 1: favorites free agents. And that's going to be Ian Happ. Uh,
- 22:38Speaker 1: you know, he played at the university of Cincinnati. I
- 22:40Speaker 1: want to see him come back to Cincinnati. Uh, this
- 22:43Speaker 1: guy's a gold Glover, right? He's one of the beat
- 22:45Speaker 1: best defensive outfielders in the game and him back at
- 22:49Speaker 1: great American ballpark where he arguably that's the best stadium
- 22:54Speaker 1: he plays at statistically. Like that is one of his,
- 22:57Speaker 1: I know it's in the top three. I can't remember
- 22:58Speaker 1: off the top of my head, but He loves coming
- 23:00Speaker 1: home to Cincinnati and playing baseball. So I hope Nick
- 23:04Speaker 1: Kroll and the Reds, they spend the money, they get
- 23:06Speaker 1: Ian Happ back to Cincinnati. I think that'd be awesome.
- 23:09Speaker 1: What are your thoughts?
- 23:11Speaker 3: That'd be a good fit for him, for sure. If
- 23:12Speaker 3: he doesn't go back to the Cubs, I think Cincinnati
- 23:14Speaker 3: would be a nice home. I'm sure he'd love to
- 23:16Speaker 3: go back to the Natty. 20 homers in five of
- 23:18Speaker 3: his last six years. So besides the gold gloves. You
- 23:22Speaker 3: get 20 homers and play after games a great American.
- 23:25Speaker 3: That 20 becomes 25 pretty quick, as you know.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Now, number 20, we've got a 35-year-old left-hander, Robbie Ray.
- 23:32Speaker 3: 13 wins on the year with a 3-5-9 ERA. Robbie
- 23:38Speaker 3: Ray is still a mid-rotation starter. It's his off-speed pitch
- 23:41Speaker 3: that continues to get outs, which I love. And a
- 23:44Speaker 3: solid guy. So let's recap the rest of our 11
- 23:50Speaker 3: to 20 on our free agent list. Adrian Morhan was 11.
- 23:55Speaker 3: The reliever from the Padres, David Bednar. The closer from
- 23:58Speaker 3: the Yankees at 12, Nick Martinez. The right-handed pitcher from
- 24:02Speaker 3: Tampa Bay at 13. Then we've got a couple of
- 24:04Speaker 3: left-handed starters, Foster Griffin and Trevor Rogers at 16. We've
- 24:09Speaker 3: got Casey Mize. His stock really plummeted after getting traded
- 24:12Speaker 3: to the Padres. Luis Arias and his three batting titles.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Then we've got the fire hydrant. Oh, do we love
- 24:19Speaker 3: the fire hydrant. Kai Matyra, we cannot wait to see
- 24:22Speaker 3: because we have no idea what he is. That's going
- 24:24Speaker 3: to be fun to see how much he gets paid
- 24:26Speaker 3: because I have no idea. Ian Happ in left field,
- 24:29Speaker 3: 20 homers, five in the last six years. Trey wants
- 24:32Speaker 3: him to go back to the natty. I get that.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Skyline Tilly would be happy. They'd make a lot of money.
- 24:36Speaker 3: And Robbie Ray rounds out our top 20. And that's
- 24:41Speaker 3: the free agent list. Look, it's not the strongest class
- 24:43Speaker 3: we've seen at all, but there's a 20 really good
- 24:47Speaker 3: players by the way. And these are players that can
- 24:50Speaker 3: help teams win. So I'm fascinated to see how free
- 24:54Speaker 3: agents goes. As soon as the world series is over,
- 24:57Speaker 3: we'll get the month of November is award month and
- 25:00Speaker 3: it's free agent month and the GM meetings in Las.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Vegas, the 7th and the 9th of November.
- 25:07Speaker 3: And then it's Thanksgiving and, Oh, by the way, Trey,
- 25:11Speaker 3: our Lakers are undefeated to start the year 2-0.
- 25:13Speaker 4: I know.
- 25:14Speaker 1: I know they are.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Luka MVP. Let's go.
- 25:17Speaker 1: You can get those odds. You can trade for that
- 25:19Speaker 1: on Calshi, by the way.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Yes.
- 25:21Speaker 2: You can trade for that on Calshi. Yes.
- 25:24Speaker 3: And by the way, this World Series after Game 1
- 25:28Speaker 3: is exactly what we thought it was going to be.
- 25:30Speaker 3: You and I have the Brewers winning it in 6
- 25:32Speaker 3: or 7, but we think every game is going to
- 25:35Speaker 3: be close. Game 1 lived up to that. I am
- 25:38Speaker 3: looking forward to the rest of the series and then
- 25:40Speaker 3: to free agency. And we're going to have all the
- 25:42Speaker 3: offseason covered, trades, free agents, the labor. Everything will be
- 25:47Speaker 3: up to date on GM territory as well as foul territory.
- 25:50Speaker 3: He is the great Trey Michael Bowden. I'm his dad,
- 25:53Speaker 3: Jim Bowden. And for now, chow and chillax.
- 25:56Speaker 1: We gone.
