- 0:04Speaker 1: It's a podcast called twenty five Whist Stocky Sports and
- 0:08Speaker 1: they wear a whist, so yeah.
- 0:10Speaker 2: It's too bad, But what did you expect.
- 0:13Speaker 3: It's a podcast called twenty five Whist Souls Wheel. Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello,
- 0:22Speaker 3: we're international? Can we watch hockey? Oh?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Right, right, right?
- 0:26Speaker 3: Hello? Is that Australian? That's a good point?
- 0:29Speaker 4: Was Canadian?
- 0:30Speaker 3: But uh a, uh yeah, we're gonna talk to Pierre
- 0:34Speaker 3: Maguire in a second. We've never actually done a hockey segment,
- 0:37Speaker 3: but he's a former NFL NHL executive and coach and
- 0:41Speaker 3: current analyst. And did anybody else wake up and watch Heck, yeah,
- 0:45Speaker 3: me too?
- 0:45Speaker 2: You did you watch live too?
- 0:46Speaker 5: I got nine month old twins at the same time,
- 0:48Speaker 5: so I didn't really have a choice, but yeah, I
- 0:50Speaker 5: was up and at him, and yeah, I watched the
- 0:51Speaker 5: whole thing.
- 0:52Speaker 3: I felt I'm an extreme casual, not gonna act like
- 0:55Speaker 3: I'm not well for hockey for America pretty end. Yeah,
- 1:01Speaker 3: because of the tournament they had at the NHL is
- 1:05Speaker 3: All Star weekend when they did the Battle of the Countries.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Like I feel like I kind of know
- 1:10Speaker 3: a little about about what's going on, Like I've been
- 1:12Speaker 3: following you know, uh, Connor McDavid. Yeah, and like he's
- 1:15Speaker 3: been losing the two he's like the best, and who
- 1:17Speaker 3: does he played for well Canada, but he lost the
- 1:20Speaker 3: last two Stanley Cup Championships. But he was MVP from Canada. Anyway,
- 1:24Speaker 3: we're talking a lot of idiot here. Oilers. Yeah, right,
- 1:28Speaker 3: Edmonton Canada, Edmonton oilers. So but we are going to
- 1:33Speaker 3: talk to Pierre maguire in just a second. That's cool
- 1:36Speaker 3: because that's what's up. But it was it was fun.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Huh did you ever?
- 1:38Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:39Speaker 3: It was awesome. Do you ever watch the games with Pierre,
- 1:40Speaker 3: like on the ice or anything. Do you remember those
- 1:42Speaker 3: at all?
- 1:42Speaker 5: Or no? When he was working for NBC, I don't feel.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Guys are crazy that are down there, the announcers that
- 1:47Speaker 5: are on the ice, They're like.
- 1:49Speaker 3: What do you mean, Pierre?
- 1:49Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:50Speaker 3: I don't know, Pierre. When you want TV, you never
- 1:53Speaker 3: watch hockey. Okay, guys, I can't see the puck, no.
- 1:56Speaker 6: But see.
- 1:56Speaker 2: But for a time though, there was a little tracer.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Do you remember that.
- 1:59Speaker 3: I loved that? Well, I did love it, but I
- 2:00Speaker 3: did if it came on, I liked that. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:03Speaker 3: I don't chase hockey because I don't know much about it,
- 2:05Speaker 3: but I did watch anything America's. It's like soccer. I
- 2:08Speaker 3: definitely get into it when we're all come yeah, and
- 2:10Speaker 3: at least we have a shot in hockey. We don't
- 2:12Speaker 3: have a shot in soccer. We won women's and men's
- 2:14Speaker 3: gold it's awesome. Did you watch the women's one too?
- 2:17Speaker 7: Did?
- 2:17Speaker 3: I just watched the overtime ol That's all I watched too,
- 2:20Speaker 3: I'm being hon Yeah, yeah, watch the whole thing, just
- 2:23Speaker 3: make I think I watched the last part of the
- 2:25Speaker 3: third period in overtime. Yes, yeah, and it was an
- 2:28Speaker 3: awesome goal. I did watch pretty much all of the
- 2:31Speaker 3: this match.
- 2:31Speaker 4: I was awake.
- 2:32Speaker 3: There's nothing on at seven am, and so.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, did you watch any No, I did not, just
- 2:36Speaker 2: the highlights.
- 2:37Speaker 3: It's cool man that you know they go to three
- 2:39Speaker 3: on three at the end. It's like in the Super
- 2:41Speaker 3: Bowl if they went to they go to overtime and
- 2:43Speaker 3: they played seven on seven flag football at the end.
- 2:45Speaker 3: For it was intense. Yeah, and I can understand people
- 2:50Speaker 3: being upset about it, Like the Canadians were really upset
- 2:52Speaker 3: that it ended in this, but they played in the quarterfinals.
- 2:55Speaker 3: They had to win by a three on three, and
- 2:56Speaker 3: they won that one by three on three. But anyway,
- 2:59Speaker 3: we know about hockey, so we're gonna wait to get
- 3:01Speaker 3: there with him. But it was cool, it was awesome.
- 3:04Speaker 3: It's cool because we won if they just made the
- 3:06Speaker 3: Canadian stand out there a long time after they lost.
- 3:08Speaker 2: So it is hockey your favorite event of the whole thing.
- 3:13Speaker 3: It probably has to be because it's what I knew
- 3:16Speaker 3: the most about.
- 3:17Speaker 2: What you watch most of too.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Snowboarding is cool.
- 3:19Speaker 4: I know.
- 3:20Speaker 3: No, I've never done that, never played hockey, but I
- 3:23Speaker 3: have ice skated. I've never snowboarded, never ski mm hmm.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Have you never gone skiing?
- 3:30Speaker 3: Huh?
- 3:30Speaker 6: I mean neither.
- 3:31Speaker 2: You would like that, but but then now we're older
- 3:34Speaker 2: and one.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Fall anyway, probably hockey, Yeah, I did. I didn't watch
- 3:41Speaker 3: our the girl who won the gold in the solo
- 3:46Speaker 3: free skating, but I watched her whole four and a
- 3:49Speaker 3: half minute routine after she's been awesome. But I didn't
- 3:51Speaker 3: watch that Liveah, I'm kind of opposer. I'm a casual,
- 3:55Speaker 3: casual American win Winter Olympics now, and I know very
- 3:57Speaker 3: much American casual with the Olympics there, So yeah, why
- 4:03Speaker 3: don't we just do a couple of things, and then
- 4:05Speaker 3: we'll go to somebody who actually knows about hockey. Yes,
- 4:07Speaker 3: because college basketball is happening. We're loving it. It's great
- 4:10Speaker 3: right now. Had a bunch of good games this past weekend.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Yeah, really good games. The top four teams playing each
- 4:16Speaker 2: other they did.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah, and Duke beat Michigan.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Duke beats Michigan Duke.
- 4:23Speaker 3: It was a pretty good game at the very beginning
- 4:25Speaker 3: of the season. But nothing matters at the beginning of
- 4:26Speaker 3: the season so much. But yeah, and then Boozer's good.
- 4:30Speaker 3: His brother's pretty good too, but he's really good. He's
- 4:32Speaker 3: probably first or maybe second overall.
- 4:34Speaker 4: Pick. Yeah.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Now there's the top three, right, Kansas kid b Yu
- 4:37Speaker 3: and him the Kansas gett even planned. He's checking out
- 4:40Speaker 3: of every game. Is that crazy? Yeah? What are you saying, Eddie?
- 4:43Speaker 2: Oh no? And then Arizona to beating Houston. Yeah, just
- 4:48Speaker 2: the way lined up. Watch again, I'm getting.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Ready for although I could have put our money with
- 4:53Speaker 3: my team.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Here's the deal. I send you a note a little
- 4:56Speaker 2: bit too early. So like Saturday, dude, I dominated UFC.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I won probably eighty five percent of the fights.
- 5:03Speaker 5: Wait wait, wait, you're gambling again. Yeah, okay, yeah, just
- 5:07Speaker 5: making sure.
- 5:07Speaker 2: UFC man in usc I was likely. Let me just
- 5:09Speaker 2: put some money on this too. I hit everything I hit.
- 5:12Speaker 2: I think one five game basketball Parlay, No Namers Buffalo.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Why are you betting No Namers?
- 5:19Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 5:19Speaker 2: To me, I just feel like the big ones are
- 5:21Speaker 2: too unpredictable, the little ones. When it's Sam Heason State
- 5:23Speaker 2: versus Lamar, let's go Sam Houston State.
- 5:25Speaker 3: You don't even watch it?
- 5:26Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I'll watch him. And that's when never wanted
- 5:29Speaker 2: to track him down. Well, my wife walks in and
- 5:31Speaker 2: I'm watching Sam Heuson State versus Lamar. She's like, how
- 5:34Speaker 2: much money do you have on this?
- 5:35Speaker 3: Nice?
- 5:35Speaker 2: But I so? I dude, I was probably up one
- 5:37Speaker 2: fifty on Saturday going into Sunday nice and then Rory
- 5:40Speaker 2: McElroy man ruined it for me. I thought for sure
- 5:43Speaker 2: he would come back and win that tournament.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Oh, I didn't watch anything.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Who won?
- 5:46Speaker 2: No Namer? So No Namer went into the Sunday with
- 5:49Speaker 2: like a six stroke lead behind Rory. Rory was like,
- 5:53Speaker 2: come on, did you can do this? He never could
- 5:55Speaker 2: catch up.
- 5:56Speaker 3: But how much you bet on that?
- 5:57Speaker 2: I bet twenty bucks on Rory to win and then
- 6:01Speaker 2: about halfway through Rory had two birdies. I'm like, oh,
- 6:03Speaker 2: he's got to win this. Put twenty more so I
- 6:05Speaker 2: put forty.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Back on that. That's that's that's a lot of you significant.
- 6:09Speaker 2: And then Nascar. I started putting money on all these drivers.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Because he's just u s and then golf and then NASCAR.
- 6:17Speaker 2: In college basketball, Tyler Reddick, may he wins another one?
- 6:20Speaker 3: He did. I thought it was a repost.
- 6:23Speaker 7: I saw that.
- 6:24Speaker 3: I thought it was a repost of that. He won
- 6:26Speaker 3: that NATO out.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Of I'm thinking, out of all the drivers, he's not
- 6:29Speaker 2: gonna win again, that's so rare. No, he won again.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Michael Jordan wins again.
- 6:33Speaker 3: To wow, did Michael grab kids butt again?
- 6:35Speaker 4: And they did not do that?
- 6:36Speaker 2: He wasn't near the kid.
- 6:39Speaker 3: I saw where Cooper cups NBA Cooper Cup, Cooper Flags
- 6:43Speaker 3: NBA jersey the first one he played him with for
- 6:44Speaker 3: a million bucks.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Wow, he didn't play that well that game.
- 6:48Speaker 3: But still Yeah, he didn't start as hot as Knipal did.
- 6:51Speaker 3: But now he's awesome. Cap is still really great too.
- 6:55Speaker 3: How the dude didn't win the national championship? Both those
- 6:57Speaker 3: guys on the team wild to me. Yeah, So but yeah,
- 7:01Speaker 3: Cooper Flag his game warn game one one million dollars.
- 7:06Speaker 3: He put up ten points, ten rebounds. It's a double double,
- 7:08Speaker 3: double double.
- 7:09Speaker 4: My bad.
- 7:10Speaker 3: The previous record for a jersey sold through NBA auctions
- 7:13Speaker 3: was Victor when Ben Yama's NBA debut seven sixty two.
- 7:19Speaker 3: But Cooper Flags. I think I'd still probably rather have
- 7:21Speaker 3: Wemb's thing.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, but.
- 7:24Speaker 3: One million bucks. Dang, you watching much NBA.
- 7:28Speaker 2: A little bit?
- 7:29Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 7:29Speaker 2: Well, just last night in the Lakers, Boston lost on
- 7:32Speaker 2: that one too. Dude, I was chasing, Okay, all right,
- 7:35Speaker 2: I was chasing. So after Rory lost, I'm like, come on,
- 7:38Speaker 2: I gotta make.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Some money back. Do you see the guy the poker
- 7:41Speaker 3: player that tours a c L Yes, the clip going
- 7:44Speaker 3: yeah so this uh but it's a poker Yeah, but
- 7:47Speaker 3: it's a it's a viral clip that's going back around again.
- 7:50Speaker 3: But he's sitting at the table younger guy.
- 7:52Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's an older clip, but it just I
- 7:55Speaker 3: saw and thought it was new when I first saw it.
- 7:57Speaker 3: But turns out his name is Justin Smith. You want
- 7:59Speaker 3: one one million dollars? This has been a while ago.
- 8:02Speaker 3: He went all in, but he tore his a cl
- 8:03Speaker 3: because he was celebrating with his family. He kept playing
- 8:06Speaker 3: in the tournament. He put his leg up, iced it.
- 8:09Speaker 3: But yeah, he play the club, tear the.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Board, back to back double water fights, Justin Smith growing
- 8:17Speaker 4: out both times. Man to stay alive.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Look how excited that he is, his fans, his friends.
- 8:23Speaker 4: To wait a minute, manch something's wrong out there.
- 8:26Speaker 3: We'll operate it on tomorrow. There's something very wrong.
- 8:29Speaker 2: He's doubled over.
- 8:30Speaker 3: He's he's really in pain. Yeah, it's snou What the
- 8:35Speaker 3: this is no bluff. Let me tell you injury.
- 8:37Speaker 7: I called you. I called you this injury sport.
- 8:41Speaker 4: They said that poker is not a sport, but this is, well,
- 8:43Speaker 4: this is pretty serious. People are rushing to Justin's side.
- 8:47Speaker 3: I'm really hoping it will be okay. I mean, I'm
- 8:49Speaker 3: able to play.
- 8:50Speaker 4: I'll play it all turnman, officials will stopped the clock.
- 8:53Speaker 3: I thought it was new when it happened. But it's
- 8:55Speaker 3: funny regardless.
- 8:56Speaker 2: The announcers, they're so good. Oh that's a serious injury
- 8:59Speaker 2: there waiting second John.
- 9:03Speaker 3: He reminded me of dodgeball.
- 9:07Speaker 2: So and of course he can play through it like
- 9:09Speaker 2: he's just sitting there right.
- 9:11Speaker 3: No, but if it hurts and you've got a focus
- 9:13Speaker 3: and you're doing running odds, and I would say that's probably.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I think about the mental game.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Yeah, but he was so far ahead after that that
- 9:23Speaker 3: he was like, I can I can finish out there.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Let's get over to our talk now with former NHL
- 9:27Speaker 3: executive and coach and current analyst Pierre McGuire. Pierre was
- 9:30Speaker 3: born in the US, raised in Canada. We talk about
- 9:31Speaker 3: that because I'm like, what's the deal who you're rooting for?
- 9:34Speaker 3: He gave a pretty good answer. He's either been coaching,
- 9:37Speaker 3: working in the front office, or covering hockey for almost
- 9:39Speaker 3: forty years. We're casuals. He spoke to us like we
- 9:43Speaker 3: needed to be spoken to, right, Yeah, I like that.
- 9:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:47Speaker 3: You can also check out his podcast and we talk
- 9:50Speaker 3: about that here. All right, here we go, big thanks
- 9:52Speaker 3: to Pierre for coming on here. He is the great
- 9:54Speaker 3: Pierre McGuire. Let us bring on now NHL analysts, former
- 9:58Speaker 3: NHL executive and coach and co host of the Sickest
- 10:01Speaker 3: NHL podcast, The Eye Test with Pierre McGuire and Jimmy Murphy.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Here he is Pierre McGuire, coach. Thank you for coming
- 10:09Speaker 3: on with us. We really appreciate it.
- 10:11Speaker 6: Nice to visit with the Bobby. Thanks for having me.
- 10:13Speaker 3: I want to tell you up front, I am a
- 10:16Speaker 3: semi casual, so I'm going to ask dumb questions, but
- 10:19Speaker 3: I just want to be really. I grew up in Arkansas,
- 10:22Speaker 3: I'm now the Preds are here. I've just been exposed
- 10:25Speaker 3: to hockey in the last few years. I have friends
- 10:27Speaker 3: that play in the NHL. But I'm learning. So all
- 10:29Speaker 3: that to say, I'm kind of a dumb dumb so
- 10:31Speaker 3: please accept me for what I am.
- 10:33Speaker 8: I just love the fact that you have passion even
- 10:35Speaker 8: want to talk about hockey.
- 10:36Speaker 6: So go for it, Bobby. It's my pleasure to be
- 10:38Speaker 6: on your show.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Okay, So we were having a little discussion about you
- 10:41Speaker 3: before you came on, because says you're raised in Quebec,
- 10:45Speaker 3: but also you were born up in the States. Who
- 10:48Speaker 3: are you rooting for.
- 10:50Speaker 8: The best team? Who ever won. I've gone through this
- 10:55Speaker 8: a lot, Bobby. I gotta tell you, I was born
- 10:57Speaker 8: in the same hospital on Engwood, New Jersey, that the
- 10:59Speaker 8: great Bill ourselves, the legendary football coach, was born in
- 11:03Speaker 8: called the Englewood Hospital. But when I was very young,
- 11:06Speaker 8: my mother's French Canadian. We moved to Canada and I
- 11:09Speaker 8: basically grew up there until my junior year in high school,
- 11:12Speaker 8: when I went to play sports back in New Jersey
- 11:14Speaker 8: at a big time.
- 11:15Speaker 6: School called Bird and Catholic High School.
- 11:17Speaker 8: So I've experienced both sides of the border, and I've
- 11:20Speaker 8: coached on both the American side and the Canadian side.
- 11:24Speaker 8: My children were born in Canada, but they are dual
- 11:26Speaker 8: citizens just like I am. My wife is French Canadian.
- 11:30Speaker 8: So I consider North America an amazing place. I'm proud
- 11:33Speaker 8: to be American. I'm proud to be Canadian.
- 11:35Speaker 3: We also like North America, if we're being honest. We're
- 11:37Speaker 3: big North America fans as well, because our show is
- 11:40Speaker 3: also in Canada. Like so okay, good. Now that we
- 11:43Speaker 3: have that established, I feel like I also did not
- 11:46Speaker 3: grow up around a lot of soccer, but I think
- 11:47Speaker 3: there have been a couple soccer matches in my life
- 11:50Speaker 3: where I look back and I think kids saw them
- 11:52Speaker 3: growing up and it probably inspired them to play soccer,
- 11:55Speaker 3: and then they remembered, oh I saw that. Do you
- 11:57Speaker 3: think this is that for American kids we're watching this game?
- 12:02Speaker 6: Yes, I do.
- 12:03Speaker 8: I was a freshman in college in the nineteen eighty
- 12:05Speaker 8: Olympic year, and I couldn't believe the passion. And I
- 12:08Speaker 8: went to school in upstate New York, where obviously Lake
- 12:11Speaker 8: Placid is, and back then we didn't even get to
- 12:13Speaker 8: see that game between Rush and the United States live.
- 12:16Speaker 8: It was on tape delay on ABC. So I saw
- 12:20Speaker 8: what that did for a generation of players. Not long
- 12:23Speaker 8: after I played professionally, and then I started coaching in college,
- 12:26Speaker 8: and that whole wave after the nineteen eighties, Billy Garron
- 12:30Speaker 8: and Jeremy Ronick and Toniamonty and Brian Leech and Kevin Stevens.
- 12:34Speaker 6: I can go on and on, all.
- 12:35Speaker 8: These great American players, Mike Richter, the legendary goalie that
- 12:39Speaker 8: won the Stanley Cup for the Rangers in nineteen ninety four, Bobby,
- 12:42Speaker 8: They're all product of that nineteen eighty team. I think
- 12:45Speaker 8: this team will do very much the same for men's hockey,
- 12:48Speaker 8: and I think the women's team.
- 12:50Speaker 9: Obviously that won gold in ninety eight and one gold
- 12:53Speaker 9: in twenty eighteen and just one gold in twenty twenty six,
- 12:57Speaker 9: I think the women's team is going to do the
- 12:58Speaker 9: very same thing for the win athletes that want to
- 13:00Speaker 9: play hockey now.
- 13:02Speaker 3: I'm again, I'm a big Canadian fan because we just
- 13:04Speaker 3: are where our show does well in Canada. So it's
- 13:07Speaker 3: a tough loss. I want to tell everybody, all my
- 13:08Speaker 3: Canadian friends, I love you. Tough loss. Okay. So getting
- 13:11Speaker 3: that out of the way, like that's got to hurt, right,
- 13:14Speaker 3: because that's like it's like Canadian's main sport, Canada's main sport, right, Oh.
- 13:17Speaker 8: No question, I mean again. I broadcast a twenty ten
- 13:20Speaker 8: gold medal game. I remember it like it was yesterday,
- 13:22Speaker 8: even though it was sixteen years ago and it was
- 13:25Speaker 8: a Sydney Crosby golden goal. I remember him yelling and
- 13:27Speaker 8: screaming to Jerome again like Iggy, Iggy, Iggy passed me
- 13:31Speaker 8: the pucket, Higgy gets in the puck and he beats
- 13:33Speaker 8: Ryan Miller. So the Americans, you know, tasted that very
- 13:36Speaker 8: same defeat that the Canadians experienced in terms of a
- 13:39Speaker 8: victory in twenty ten. So I've been around it. I've
- 13:42Speaker 8: seen it for both sides. It's very painful. People remember
- 13:45Speaker 8: the Four Nations event from last year where the United
- 13:48Speaker 8: States lost in overtime in Boston to Canada. It happens
- 13:51Speaker 8: when you go best on best is you know, Bobby,
- 13:53Speaker 8: anything can happen. These are amazing athletes that really represented
- 13:56Speaker 8: their countries unbelievably well.
- 13:58Speaker 6: Yesterday in the gold medal game.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I watched the four Nations and I watched them fight
- 14:03Speaker 3: at the very beginning. Now, how real was that? And
- 14:06Speaker 3: but how or how performative was the fight at the beginning?
- 14:09Speaker 6: Oh, it's real, it's real. See these two there, they're
- 14:15Speaker 6: not mine. Stuff like that happens. They're real.
- 14:19Speaker 8: And the truth is is that, you know, the Kachicks
- 14:23Speaker 8: wanted to make a statement, just like their father did
- 14:26Speaker 8: in nineteen ninety six when he was representing the United
- 14:29Speaker 8: States at what was then called the World Cup of
- 14:32Speaker 8: Hockey and they had a massive fight to start a
- 14:35Speaker 8: game between Canada, the United States and Philadelphia. So that
- 14:38Speaker 8: kind of stuff has happened before. It doesn't happen in
- 14:41Speaker 8: the Olympics, just because if you fight in the Olympics,
- 14:43Speaker 8: you're out of the game. So that's not going to
- 14:45Speaker 8: happen in an Olympic event. But yeah, no, the fighting
- 14:47Speaker 8: is real. It's not stage. I can tell you that.
- 14:49Speaker 3: But these guys have to play together all the time
- 14:52Speaker 3: like this happens, and now they have to go back
- 14:53Speaker 3: and then continue playing some on the same teams.
- 14:56Speaker 8: Right.
- 14:57Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:57Speaker 8: But you know what's interesting about hockey at the National
- 14:59Speaker 8: Hockey League level, Well, you build up this animosity towards
- 15:02Speaker 8: other teams or other players, and sometimes you get traded
- 15:06Speaker 8: to that team that you might not like, or you
- 15:08Speaker 8: get a player from a team that you don't like,
- 15:11Speaker 8: and you don't like that player and he ends up
- 15:13Speaker 8: being on your team. Brad Marshan is a great example,
- 15:15Speaker 8: played for Canada yesterday, gets traded by the Boston Bruins
- 15:19Speaker 8: to the Florida Panthers. Nobody liked Brad when he was
- 15:21Speaker 8: in Boston if you were a Florida Panther, but as
- 15:23Speaker 8: soon as he comes to your team and he helps
- 15:25Speaker 8: you win a Stanley Cup, you think the world of
- 15:27Speaker 8: the guy. That's just part of what happens in professional hockey.
- 15:30Speaker 8: It's not one of those things where too many people
- 15:32Speaker 8: take stuff personal and you just move along and go
- 15:34Speaker 8: with the punches, so to speak.
- 15:36Speaker 3: What are your thoughts on the three on three in overtime?
- 15:39Speaker 6: It's a fair question, it's actually a good question.
- 15:41Speaker 8: I'd like to see them manipulated a little bit, maybe
- 15:43Speaker 8: go to four on four rather than three on three,
- 15:46Speaker 8: make it more of a hockey test than a skill
- 15:49Speaker 8: or a speed test.
- 15:50Speaker 6: But quite frankly, I thought.
- 15:51Speaker 8: It was a tremendous drama on the women's side where
- 15:54Speaker 8: we saw a three on three goal decide the gold
- 15:57Speaker 8: medal game, in this case in favor of US, with
- 16:00Speaker 8: Megan Keller just making a spectacular play for the US women.
- 16:03Speaker 8: And I thought yesterday's goal from Jack Hughes was beautiful
- 16:07Speaker 8: off the rush are great play by Zach Warensky.
- 16:09Speaker 6: And so would I like to have three on three?
- 16:12Speaker 6: Probably not? But is it the way the rules were
- 16:14Speaker 6: set up yet?
- 16:14Speaker 8: Is I'd like to see them probably try to compensate
- 16:17Speaker 8: a little bit and maybe make it more of a hockey.
- 16:19Speaker 6: Test, go to four on four rather than three on three.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Is that four casuals so the game doesn't last an
- 16:25Speaker 3: extreme long amount of time.
- 16:27Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 16:28Speaker 8: I wasn't in their room when they decided to go
- 16:31Speaker 8: come up with that, So that had to be negotiated
- 16:33Speaker 8: between the DOUBLEHF and probably the National Hockey League and
- 16:37Speaker 8: all the sanctioning bodies.
- 16:38Speaker 6: I wasn't in the room, so I don't know, but.
- 16:40Speaker 8: I would just say it's the way we decide or
- 16:43Speaker 8: try to decide games in the National Hockey League is
- 16:45Speaker 8: by playing three on three, and maybe that was just
- 16:47Speaker 8: a carryover from that.
- 16:49Speaker 3: A lot of Canadians were complaining about it as it
- 16:53Speaker 3: being a game seven, but didn't they have to win
- 16:55Speaker 3: the quarters in overtime with a three on three as well?
- 16:58Speaker 8: They most certainly did and highlight real iconic goal by
- 17:01Speaker 8: Mitchell Marner of the Vegas goal. The Knights used to
- 17:04Speaker 8: be obviously a key member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
- 17:07Speaker 8: There was no complaining after that goal went in, and
- 17:10Speaker 8: that was a spectacular play by Mitchell Marner, by the way,
- 17:13Speaker 8: to score that overtime winner against check In and quite frankly,
- 17:17Speaker 8: look at you know, not Connor McDavid, excuse me Nathan
- 17:19Speaker 8: McKinnon's goal in the semi final against Finland. That's with
- 17:23Speaker 8: less than a minute to go on the power play.
- 17:25Speaker 8: I don't think, you know, the Finns were too happy
- 17:27Speaker 8: about losing.
- 17:27Speaker 6: That way either. So there's always going to be.
- 17:30Speaker 8: Debates, There's always going to be all kinds of kerfluffles
- 17:33Speaker 8: that happened over the course of a hockey term, and
- 17:35Speaker 8: I get it. The one thing I just want to say,
- 17:37Speaker 8: out of respect This has nothing to do with politics.
- 17:40Speaker 8: I think good portions of this event would have changed
- 17:42Speaker 8: had the Russians been there and able to play.
- 17:45Speaker 6: Has nothing to do with politics.
- 17:47Speaker 8: I don't mean any disrespect to Ukraine, to Russia, out
- 17:50Speaker 8: to anybody, but if the Russian hockey players were at
- 17:53Speaker 8: this event, I think it might have changed the outcome
- 17:55Speaker 8: a little bit.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Do you think they would have won it?
- 17:57Speaker 6: No, but I think they might have upset some that
- 18:00Speaker 6: could have been in the gold medal game.
- 18:02Speaker 3: What do you think about Sidney Crosby not being able
- 18:04Speaker 3: to play? Do you think it would have changed the
- 18:06Speaker 3: outcome of the game?
- 18:07Speaker 8: I do, I do, And I've been saying this. I
- 18:09Speaker 8: said it on NBC, I said it on CBS. I've
- 18:12Speaker 8: said it in a lot of different shows I've been on.
- 18:15Speaker 8: The truth is that Sydney was really a big part
- 18:17Speaker 8: of their strength. The strength of their team was obviously
- 18:20Speaker 8: Connor McDavid, Nathan McKinnon, Sidney Crosby. That kind of depth
- 18:24Speaker 8: through the middle of the ice is hard to beat.
- 18:26Speaker 8: Crosby centering a line with Mitchell, Marner and Mark Stone
- 18:29Speaker 8: hugely important line fourteen Canada. Crosby goes down in the
- 18:33Speaker 8: quarterfinal game against CHECKI after a hard hit by Rad
- 18:37Speaker 8: Cogutis of the Anaheim Ducks, the captain of that team,
- 18:39Speaker 8: by the way, and quite frankly, Bob, they Canada was
- 18:43Speaker 8: never the same team after they lost SID.
- 18:45Speaker 6: They just were not. SID is such an important part.
- 18:48Speaker 8: So if you think about it, twenty ten scores a
- 18:50Speaker 8: goal and goal twenty fourteen the leader of another goal
- 18:53Speaker 8: medal winning team, and he and Drew Dowdy were the
- 18:56Speaker 8: only two guys that were on this team Canada that
- 18:59Speaker 8: had any kind of Olympic experience, and it was both
- 19:03Speaker 8: times winning gold medals. They didn't have anybody else in
- 19:06Speaker 8: that team that had ever played in the Olympics.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Back in the day, Johnny Elway had lost a bunch
- 19:11Speaker 3: of Super Bowls way early. It took him a while
- 19:12Speaker 3: to come back and actually win a Super Bowl. But
- 19:14Speaker 3: I feel like with Connor my David in the last
- 19:16Speaker 3: two Stanley Cup finals and winning the silver. He did
- 19:19Speaker 3: win the MVP, but I don't think that I don't
- 19:20Speaker 3: think that probably matters to him. It's been a rough
- 19:23Speaker 3: run for him as far as winning championships or gold medals.
- 19:26Speaker 3: What do you think is Tyke's like right now?
- 19:27Speaker 8: Oh?
- 19:28Speaker 6: I feel badly for him.
- 19:29Speaker 8: First of all, he's an unbelievable He's probably the best
- 19:32Speaker 8: player we've ever seen at doing what he does, traveling
- 19:35Speaker 8: at a high rate of speed with the puck on
- 19:37Speaker 8: his stick, and still being able to process the game
- 19:39Speaker 8: the way he does. As much of a goal scorer
- 19:41Speaker 8: he is, he's a better playmaker. He's to do that
- 19:44Speaker 8: at that rate of speed, almost thirty miles an hour
- 19:46Speaker 8: and be able to process the game the way he
- 19:48Speaker 8: does is just overwhelmingly amazing. He's obviously got a field
- 19:53Speaker 8: mentally beat up a little bit. It can't be fun.
- 19:56Speaker 6: You know.
- 19:56Speaker 8: I've coached in two Stanley Cup finals and was fortunate
- 19:59Speaker 8: enough to be part on the winning side twice. And
- 20:01Speaker 8: I got to just tell you this, Bob. I said
- 20:04Speaker 8: once to a person that's a very good friend of mine.
- 20:07Speaker 8: I said, I could never imagine going this far over
- 20:09Speaker 8: the course of a season and losing.
- 20:12Speaker 6: And I've never had to experience that.
- 20:14Speaker 8: He's had to do it two times in a row,
- 20:16Speaker 8: plus lose an Olympic gold medal game. That's got to
- 20:18Speaker 8: be just painful, unbelievably painful.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Yeah, that's got to be very painful. If I were
- 20:25Speaker 3: a candidate. I wouldn't have wanted the little stuffy they
- 20:26Speaker 3: were passing out. Did you notice that that they were
- 20:29Speaker 3: giving out the little stuffed animals.
- 20:32Speaker 6: I don't really cat, thank you, So when they.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Were giving them the silvers, they were passing out the
- 20:36Speaker 3: little stuffed animal with the silvers. You know, I think
- 20:39Speaker 3: you read the room, and maybe you don't. You don't
- 20:41Speaker 3: give the stuff. Also, they left them out there way
- 20:43Speaker 3: too long. I feel like, if you lose, you should
- 20:44Speaker 3: be able to go back into the locker room and
- 20:46Speaker 3: then come out. That sucks to have to sit out there,
- 20:48Speaker 3: regardless of who you are.
- 20:49Speaker 8: No, it's a fair point. It is a fair point.
- 20:51Speaker 8: I've been in the World Championships a lot. They do
- 20:53Speaker 8: the very same thing. It's agonizing, there's no question. Same
- 20:57Speaker 8: thing happened in the women's game. By the way. You know,
- 20:59Speaker 8: you go to overtime and you lose a game, and
- 21:01Speaker 8: if you're Canny, you're sitting there and if you're Mary
- 21:03Speaker 8: Philip Pulan, probably the best female player in the world
- 21:07Speaker 8: and for sure the best Canadian woman ever. You see
- 21:11Speaker 8: her reaction, I mean, she's just so beaten down. Is
- 21:14Speaker 8: painful to watch, and so yeah, it's you know how
- 21:17Speaker 8: they used to say the agony and defeat, and you
- 21:19Speaker 8: could see the agony defeat yesterday.
- 21:21Speaker 6: That was tough to watch.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I felt bad for them having to stay out
- 21:24Speaker 3: there the whole time because there was a good fifteen
- 21:26Speaker 3: minutes where they could have walked back into the locker room. Also,
- 21:30Speaker 3: something else had a beef with they should have had
- 21:31Speaker 3: the third place team out there, like you should have
- 21:33Speaker 3: been waiting to come out and accept your bronze medal.
- 21:36Speaker 9: You know.
- 21:36Speaker 8: Part of I think I could be wrong on this
- 21:39Speaker 8: part of it is a lot of those players that
- 21:40Speaker 8: were on the finished team, their NHL players. As soon
- 21:44Speaker 8: as they got their medals, they probably moved on. They
- 21:46Speaker 8: probably really moved on to their NHL teams. The NHL
- 21:50Speaker 8: schedule starts in full on Wednesday night, so to get
- 21:53Speaker 8: from me long, let's say too, for the sake of argument.
- 21:56Speaker 6: La or Santalse, it's not around the corner.
- 21:59Speaker 8: So I think a lot of the guys and ladies,
- 22:01Speaker 8: by the way, once their events were done, they bolted
- 22:05Speaker 8: because the Professional Women's Hockey League starts again soon too.
- 22:08Speaker 8: So I think that's probably why you didn't see that
- 22:10Speaker 8: with the bronze medal winning team.
- 22:12Speaker 3: I'm curious the culture of playing for your country in
- 22:15Speaker 3: the Olympics, because, as you know, in American basketball, some
- 22:17Speaker 3: of the guys just don't want to do it, and
- 22:19Speaker 3: they're like, you know, I don't want to do it.
- 22:20Speaker 3: I don't want to go play for the USA team
- 22:21Speaker 3: because it's too much work, so they don't do it.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Does that happen at all in you in international hockey
- 22:27Speaker 3: or does everybody really want to play for their national team?
- 22:30Speaker 6: They want to play for their national team. I'll tell you.
- 22:32Speaker 8: After the twenty fourteen Olympic Games in Sochia, I was
- 22:35Speaker 8: there and I was about to get on our charter
- 22:37Speaker 8: back to the United States, and an NHL official came
- 22:40Speaker 8: up to me in the lobby of the hotel right after,
- 22:44Speaker 8: you know, the Americans had been eliminated. Cannon ends up
- 22:47Speaker 8: beating Sweden in the gold medal game, and this NHL
- 22:50Speaker 8: official said, I hope you enjoyed this Olympics. I go,
- 22:52Speaker 8: why is that? He goes, NHL is never coming back.
- 22:54Speaker 8: I said what I said, Nope, We're not coming back
- 22:57Speaker 8: to the Olympics anymore. I said, well, that's really shortsighted.
- 23:00Speaker 8: I think that's a massive mistake. In my thirty seven
- 23:02Speaker 8: years in the National Hockey League are being around it.
- 23:04Speaker 8: I've never once been angry at the league. I was
- 23:07Speaker 8: really angry at the league for that, and they didn't
- 23:09Speaker 8: go back in twenty eighteen, and they didn't go back
- 23:11Speaker 8: in twenty twenty two. I can tell you one of
- 23:14Speaker 8: the things they used in collective bargaining the NHL players
- 23:17Speaker 8: and the NHL to get to this labor armony we
- 23:19Speaker 8: have now is he put a lot of the rests
- 23:22Speaker 8: about Olympic participation. The players, to a man, wanted to go,
- 23:26Speaker 8: and if they couldn't get back to the Olympics, they
- 23:28Speaker 8: probably were not going to have the labor harmony that
- 23:31Speaker 8: they have right now. So good on the players. They
- 23:33Speaker 8: really are passionate about representing their countries. They don't get
- 23:36Speaker 8: paid to do this, and I think it's fantastic. I
- 23:40Speaker 8: love Olympic hockey and I'm really proud of the both
- 23:43Speaker 8: American and Canadian women and the American and Canadian men.
- 23:47Speaker 8: They put on two amazing performances in gold medal games,
- 23:50Speaker 8: all four of those teams.
- 23:52Speaker 3: What I found interesting watching yesterday was during the face off,
- 23:56Speaker 3: they would then get the Canadian guy off like, he's
- 23:58Speaker 3: so good, you have to tell me all about that,
- 24:00Speaker 3: because they would you face off, and they would you
- 24:02Speaker 3: just ran off the ice, especially during the three on three.
- 24:04Speaker 3: Is he that good at that?
- 24:07Speaker 8: Well, you're talking about Sam Bennett or Bullhorvet. They're both
- 24:10Speaker 8: pretty good at face off. So the answers, yes, Uh.
- 24:14Speaker 8: The Americans do this very same thing with Vinnie Trocheck.
- 24:17Speaker 8: So the answers, yeah, they call them fogos and lacrosse.
- 24:19Speaker 6: And so yeah, that's stuff. Stuff happens face off, guys.
- 24:23Speaker 6: It's become pretty prominent.
- 24:25Speaker 8: Puck possession matters a lot in three on three, so
- 24:28Speaker 8: winning the initial draw helps a lot.
- 24:30Speaker 3: You mentioned if you fight during the Olympics, you're out
- 24:32Speaker 3: of the game. So are there no need for the
- 24:34Speaker 3: what I enforcer type players at the Olympics?
- 24:37Speaker 8: There I have as far as I know, and I've
- 24:39Speaker 8: been going to the Olympics since two thousand and two.
- 24:42Speaker 6: This is an eighth one I've covered.
- 24:45Speaker 8: I would just tell you straight up, Bob, there's never
- 24:48Speaker 8: been just a thug that's been going. I'm on an
- 24:50Speaker 8: Olympic roster. They can't, they can't play at that level.
- 24:53Speaker 8: So you need physicality, you need tough.
- 24:56Speaker 6: Guys you need.
- 24:57Speaker 8: Guys are going to perform certain roles when comes to checking.
- 25:01Speaker 8: But in terms of just one dimensional players that are
- 25:03Speaker 8: thugs now they don't play in the Olympics.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Can you talk about the American goalkeeping performance yesterday because
- 25:09Speaker 3: it seemed like that was pretty legit.
- 25:11Speaker 6: What a great question.
- 25:12Speaker 8: Connor Hallibuck from Alpina, Michigan, thrilled to dead played at
- 25:15Speaker 8: UMass Lowell. Never a highly recruited player, played in a
- 25:19Speaker 8: real high level league Hockey East in US College Division
- 25:23Speaker 8: one hockey.
- 25:24Speaker 6: So happy for him.
- 25:25Speaker 8: He's never really had a chance to win at the
- 25:27Speaker 8: NHL level, even though he's had unbelievable individual awards like
- 25:31Speaker 8: three ves in the Trophy, he's an MVP of the
- 25:33Speaker 8: league and all that stuff. It's amazing. His resume looks
- 25:36Speaker 8: great except for the winning part. I think we can
- 25:39Speaker 8: put the bed now the doubt that he can't win
- 25:41Speaker 8: the big game. That performance just today was all world
- 25:43Speaker 8: It was as good as any Olympic goaltending performance I've
- 25:46Speaker 8: seen since nineteen eighty with Jim Craig. That was just
- 25:49Speaker 8: a fantastic piece of work by Connor Hallibakina's family and
- 25:53Speaker 8: all this teammate should be so proud of that.
- 25:55Speaker 3: This is going to be a dumb guy question, but
- 25:57Speaker 3: do goaltenders usually have great vision? I mean, like literal vision.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Is that a part of it?
- 26:02Speaker 6: Absolutely?
- 26:03Speaker 8: If you really watch and you're trying to scout goalies,
- 26:06Speaker 8: that's one of the things you watch for. How they
- 26:08Speaker 8: track the pluck, how they read the play, can they
- 26:10Speaker 8: track long shots?
- 26:11Speaker 6: Can they what's their reaction time? Intight? One of the
- 26:14Speaker 6: cool things, Bob.
- 26:15Speaker 8: If you really want to watch, and I know a
- 26:17Speaker 8: lot of TV people do this, watch how Connor Hellibuck
- 26:20Speaker 8: prepares before a game. He'll sit on his bench and
- 26:23Speaker 8: he'll just do eye muscle exercises. I'm not kidding you,
- 26:26Speaker 8: and you'll track things and you'll see him moving his
- 26:28Speaker 8: head and moving his eyes, moving his sead and moving
- 26:30Speaker 8: his eyes. It's unbelievable to watch. So the answer is, yes,
- 26:33Speaker 8: vision really matters for goalies.
- 26:34Speaker 3: As far as gold medal games, how does this ranking
- 26:37Speaker 3: games that you've seen.
- 26:38Speaker 8: As good as I've ever seen? Twenty ten was phenomenal
- 26:40Speaker 8: in Vancouver. The pressure on the Canadians to win, especially
- 26:44Speaker 8: in their own building, was huge. The fact that the
- 26:46Speaker 8: Americans came from behind and force in overtime was mammoth
- 26:50Speaker 8: and then you had the you know, the drama of
- 26:52Speaker 8: the Sydney Crosby golden goal in Vancouver. You know, like
- 26:55Speaker 8: I said, I've coached in a lot of big games.
- 26:57Speaker 8: I've broadcast sixteen straight Stanley Cup finals, do any Olympics
- 27:00Speaker 8: a lot of stuff.
- 27:02Speaker 6: That reaction in Vancouver was pretty special. So those are.
- 27:05Speaker 8: Probably two of the better male games I've seen. The
- 27:09Speaker 8: twenty fourteen women's gold medal game and SOCI was off
- 27:12Speaker 8: the charts. It was unbelievable, great come from behind win
- 27:15Speaker 8: for Canada. The twenty eighteen women's goal medal game in
- 27:18Speaker 8: Korea was crazy good with the Lamberers sisters Megan Duggan
- 27:23Speaker 8: performing so well, Maddie Rooney and netfor Team USA, they
- 27:26Speaker 8: wanted to shootout. So this would be right up there
- 27:29Speaker 8: with all of the great Olympic games I've had a
- 27:32Speaker 8: chance to watch. Absolutely.
- 27:33Speaker 3: So tell me about your podcast. It's called The Sick
- 27:35Speaker 3: This is what I have written in front of me,
- 27:37Speaker 3: The Sick Podcast, the Eye Tests. What's the name of
- 27:41Speaker 3: is it the Sick Podcasters of the Eye Test?
- 27:44Speaker 6: The name of our show is the eye Test.
- 27:45Speaker 8: The Sick Podcast Network is who we work for at all,
- 27:49Speaker 8: and so it's actually.
- 27:50Speaker 6: Jimmy Murphy and I started that three years ago. It's
- 27:52Speaker 6: been fun.
- 27:53Speaker 8: I also do another one for One Team Media in
- 27:57Speaker 8: Pittsburgh called Inside the Game, and it's been phenomenal to
- 28:01Speaker 8: be a part of that company, and so I enjoyed
- 28:04Speaker 8: doing it.
- 28:05Speaker 6: It's fun.
- 28:06Speaker 8: I love talking about hockey. I love trying to build
- 28:08Speaker 8: the brand of the sport, and I did it for
- 28:11Speaker 8: a long time and I don't want to stop anytime soon.
- 28:13Speaker 8: I just really loved being around the game and trying
- 28:16Speaker 8: to tell stories about people in the game.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Well, I hope everybody checks out the eye test, and
- 28:19Speaker 3: I bet you there'll be a lot of people listening, because,
- 28:21Speaker 3: like I'm super interested now right. I think this was
- 28:23Speaker 3: good for me as an American to learn more about
- 28:26Speaker 3: hockey because I normally don't. I did go. I'll tell
- 28:28Speaker 3: you this, I did go. I've been to some Preds
- 28:30Speaker 3: games and I did go to Game seven when the
- 28:32Speaker 3: Preds loss to Pittsburgh, and as a pretty brutal that's
- 28:35Speaker 3: a pretty brutal day, coach, I'll be honest with you.
- 28:37Speaker 8: I was broadcasting that game, so I remember Clears Day.
- 28:40Speaker 6: Yeah, that's okay.
- 28:42Speaker 3: That kind of sucked. It's a bad day around here. Yeah,
- 28:45Speaker 3: not a good experience for your boy here, Coach, thank
- 28:48Speaker 3: you so much for being on. I hope I did
- 28:50Speaker 3: okay and asking questions. It didn't make me seem like
- 28:52Speaker 3: a complete idiot.
- 28:54Speaker 6: Bobby.
- 28:54Speaker 8: You guys had my number now, Mike can get in
- 28:56Speaker 8: touch with me anytime.
- 28:57Speaker 6: Be my pleasure to come on your show. I really
- 28:59Speaker 6: enjoyed it.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Thank you very much, Thank you, coach. I have a
- 29:01Speaker 3: great rest of the day. Eddie thinks that we may
- 29:05Speaker 3: have been going too hard on you cabin. Oh, okay,
- 29:08Speaker 3: change the guard here.
- 29:09Speaker 2: I'd like to apologize.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Okay, what about we?
- 29:11Speaker 2: I think we made too much fun of you over
- 29:13Speaker 2: your compass tattoo.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Now we I almost never did. I almost never did.
- 29:18Speaker 3: No you did.
- 29:19Speaker 2: I remember on the golf course, I didn't even know
- 29:21Speaker 2: about it. Where did that ball go? Can you check
- 29:23Speaker 2: your compass on?
- 29:24Speaker 3: You had that compass tattoo on his leg and Eddie
- 29:26Speaker 3: would bring attention to it and make fun of it
- 29:28Speaker 3: a lot. That was like two years ago, So that
- 29:29Speaker 3: was a while ago.
- 29:30Speaker 2: We were staying in San Francisco. I looked at he
- 29:32Speaker 2: was like wearing shorts and I go, dude, what's happening
- 29:35Speaker 2: with your tattoos?
- 29:36Speaker 3: As you were lost right and you were like, I
- 29:37Speaker 3: need to find any way back to the hotel.
- 29:39Speaker 2: See there it is, there it is, And he goes, yeah, man,
- 29:43Speaker 2: I'm getting it removed. I'm like what, I'm so sorry.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Do you think it's because of you?
- 29:48Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 29:48Speaker 2: We made fun of you.
- 29:49Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Oh no.
- 29:50Speaker 5: I've had this for what ten years now, I've gotten
- 29:53Speaker 5: a lot of flak for it.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Don't get me wrong. I have one on each calf
- 29:57Speaker 3: and full transparency. I don't like either of them.
- 29:59Speaker 5: I get the other one removed because it's color and
- 30:01Speaker 5: you can't remove color fully. If I'm gonna do it,
- 30:03Speaker 5: I'm not gonna do it unless it's fully. So it
- 30:05Speaker 5: has nothing to do with you, guys. It's just now,
- 30:08Speaker 5: or a couple of years ago. When I started this,
- 30:10Speaker 5: I had a little extra money and I was like,
- 30:11Speaker 5: you know what, I think it's time and it's taken
- 30:13Speaker 5: a long time and a lot of pain.
- 30:15Speaker 3: Oh it hurts, Oh my god, so bad worse than
- 30:18Speaker 3: getting it. Yes, And the more sessions you go, like,
- 30:20Speaker 3: the deeper you get in it, the worse it gets,
- 30:22Speaker 3: so like it gets deeper and deeper. They tell you that,
- 30:24Speaker 3: are you worried that because it's going away, you're gonna
- 30:27Speaker 3: get lost? Going to get it removed? Sometimes I worry
- 30:30Speaker 3: about that, But they have GPS.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Now I was going in the right direction.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Last time I knew where I was going. It's so gone.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Oh crap. Why'd you get a tattoo anyway?
- 30:42Speaker 5: I was in your spring break? No, yeah, I was
- 30:45Speaker 5: in Greece and I was like, I want to get
- 30:46Speaker 5: a tattooed. And I was like, cool, travel and compass,
- 30:48Speaker 5: And then the next thing though, yeah, and then the
- 30:51Speaker 5: next day I went and got it, and then it's like.
- 30:52Speaker 3: Man, I probably should have thought about that a little
- 30:54Speaker 3: bit more.
- 30:56Speaker 2: It was like, you're a traveler, that's what it's significed.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess you know. It's one of those cliches.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Things were like, yeah, that's something a good idea, and
- 31:01Speaker 3: then you get in you're like, yeah, this is cool,
- 31:03Speaker 3: and then like a couple of months later, you're like,
- 31:06Speaker 3: it's all right, what's on the other calf the California?
- 31:09Speaker 3: Do you like that? Or you that's okay? Could you
- 31:11Speaker 3: turn it into like Tom Brady's face or something? What
- 31:16Speaker 3: you turn it into if you had to. I don't know.
- 31:20Speaker 5: Those are the worst. Can I make a suggestionful tattoos? Yeah,
- 31:23Speaker 5: the Obrian Trophy, the Dave O'Brien, the NBA NBA Oh,
- 31:30Speaker 5: I guess the same.
- 31:30Speaker 3: Shape, like you could turn it in. Put the Celtics
- 31:33Speaker 3: something around Celtic eighteen time and then every time they win.
- 31:36Speaker 3: I get in ad you just do yeah, like slots
- 31:41Speaker 3: that is, that's not a bad idea. Actually people do
- 31:44Speaker 3: something like that.
- 31:45Speaker 5: I did see a Cowboys fan get there, gonna get
- 31:49Speaker 5: one covered.
- 31:50Speaker 3: He got his back covered the other day. It's his
- 31:51Speaker 3: Chiefs on it.
- 31:52Speaker 4: Now?
- 31:54Speaker 2: Does that? What happened?
- 31:57Speaker 5: And you had a cow it's a Cowboys on the top,
- 31:59Speaker 5: like his whole bad and then it had a helmet
- 32:01Speaker 5: of the Cowboys on his back and he got it
- 32:03Speaker 5: covered up and it's a big chief now and then
- 32:05Speaker 5: it's not Kansas City Chiefs.
- 32:07Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Why did he twitch teams? I don't know. It didn't.
- 32:10Speaker 3: I just saw the video. I didn't look too much
- 32:12Speaker 3: into it.
- 32:13Speaker 4: Got it.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Yeah, it was funny.
- 32:14Speaker 2: You know, like two of my kids they like there
- 32:17Speaker 2: are two that are Cowboys fans. They're always going to
- 32:19Speaker 2: be Cowboys fans. But there are two that like just
- 32:20Speaker 2: depends on who's good. Oh, Seattle's doing good, we're gonna
- 32:22Speaker 2: be Seahawks fans. And I have a heart, Like I'm
- 32:25Speaker 2: trying to tell him how important it is to not
- 32:27Speaker 2: grow up like that. Like, guys, you don't want to
- 32:30Speaker 2: be like that. You're not gonna have friends growing up.
- 32:32Speaker 2: If you become a fan like that, that changes teams
- 32:35Speaker 2: all the time, right, Isn't that okay?
- 32:38Speaker 3: So I would say yes, But if you were in
- 32:41Speaker 3: a place where you had a winning team and you
- 32:43Speaker 3: had an allegiance to that winning team, that would be
- 32:45Speaker 3: your team. They are unlucky to live where the Titans
- 32:48Speaker 3: are during their formidable years, and the Titans suck. Yeah,
- 32:51Speaker 3: so they might be a little bit because they have
- 32:52Speaker 3: friends whose dad's player because they're down the road, but
- 32:54Speaker 3: they're not gonna be dire Titans fans because they suck.
- 32:56Speaker 3: You're a Cowboys fan, right one, because you're in Texas.
- 32:58Speaker 3: But they were winning when you were a kid.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Yeah, but still we're still but they.
- 33:02Speaker 3: Were winning, you don't know, and they have access to
- 33:04Speaker 3: all games.
- 33:05Speaker 4: Now.
- 33:05Speaker 3: You didn't have that growing up. You had one channel,
- 33:08Speaker 3: two channels that showed So it's just it's different. And also,
- 33:12Speaker 3: if the Titans were really good and they were really
- 33:13Speaker 3: swept up in it, I think that would matter too.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Okay, But but at some point they have to stop
- 33:17Speaker 2: changing teams, right, Yeah, Like I.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Get to an age they don't have to do You
- 33:21Speaker 3: like that guy that like shows up to the no,
- 33:24Speaker 3: But I don't have a guy in my life that's nine.
- 33:27Speaker 2: But that's what I'm saying. I know, but that's what
- 33:31Speaker 2: I'm saying. Like, I thought you were a Cowboys fan. Nah, dude,
- 33:33Speaker 2: I don't like the Texans now.
- 33:34Speaker 5: Man, what's the worse the guy that like keeps switching
- 33:36Speaker 5: teams or the guy that doesn't have a team but
- 33:38Speaker 5: makes fun of your team when he loses.
- 33:39Speaker 2: The guy to switches teams?
- 33:41Speaker 3: Really because I don't have a team.
- 33:42Speaker 5: Yeah, but you don't like, But I don't make fun
- 33:44Speaker 5: of you, don't make fun of I lose so much with.
- 33:46Speaker 3: All my teams. I always feel bad for people when
- 33:49Speaker 3: they lose. Yeah, if I had, like if I was
- 33:51Speaker 3: an Ohio State fan, maybe be different. But I lose
- 33:54Speaker 3: all the time.
- 33:54Speaker 2: You're right, man, you have a lot of opportunities to
- 33:56Speaker 2: make fun of me for being a Cowboys fan. But
- 33:58Speaker 2: you don't I cry for you with you. Yeah, I
- 34:00Speaker 2: appreciate empathy. It's very nice.
- 34:02Speaker 3: Nobody loses more than me. It sucks. Yeah, I did
- 34:05Speaker 3: see a car today.
- 34:05Speaker 5: I had a Brown's logo in Ohio state like tang
- 34:08Speaker 5: and Browns fanily at least Ohio.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, yeah, I don't have any. I don't have
- 34:14Speaker 3: any of those because I'm a Cubs fan.
- 34:16Speaker 4: We won once.
- 34:17Speaker 2: What are you thinking about your your Razorbacks basketball team?
- 34:20Speaker 3: Did you guys win?
- 34:21Speaker 4: The other night?
- 34:21Speaker 2: I was watching a little bit of which Wow, Missouri
- 34:23Speaker 2: they want?
- 34:23Speaker 3: Yeah, we want? Okay, Yeah, it's crazy because I didn't.
- 34:25Speaker 3: I don't bet. I'll bet Arkansas games, but I will
- 34:29Speaker 3: if they're a favorite. I'm never betting the spread because
- 34:31Speaker 3: I don't want to be happy they won but sad
- 34:33Speaker 3: they didn't cover. I would never do that. And they were,
- 34:36Speaker 3: I believe a ten point favorite or maybe nine and
- 34:39Speaker 3: a half. And Missouri scored the most garbage bucket with
- 34:42Speaker 3: one second left to now yeah, arcas, I did even
- 34:47Speaker 3: play defense. They were just like it's over. So they
- 34:49Speaker 3: were just dribbling down. Whatever Missouri guy goes and shoots,
- 34:51Speaker 3: the lay up makes it. And I could see some
- 34:53Speaker 3: people being like, oh, but that's why I don't, because
- 34:55Speaker 3: I don't want there to be any smart anger in
- 34:57Speaker 3: my heart. I think that we It's first of all,
- 35:01Speaker 3: I think we win the championship, but really I think
- 35:03Speaker 3: we could make it to the lad eight if everything
- 35:07Speaker 3: we have a top five player in the country, regardless
- 35:10Speaker 3: of freshmen or not. Does that Brazil or now Darius Aka? Okay,
- 35:13Speaker 3: so yeah, one of our best players have got hurt. Well,
- 35:17Speaker 3: one of our contributors just got hurt, Carter knocks. But
- 35:19Speaker 3: I think that we could. We could make it to
- 35:21Speaker 3: the lead DA if we did a decent draw.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Okay.
- 35:24Speaker 3: So that's where your expectations are as of right now.
- 35:27Speaker 3: I don't have expectations, okay, but.
- 35:29Speaker 2: If you were forced to say something, that's you would say.
- 35:31Speaker 3: If I were going to bet how far that we
- 35:33Speaker 3: would go? I would go Elite eight. Anything past that
- 35:36Speaker 3: amazing the bonus.
- 35:37Speaker 5: Yeah, are you gonna go to the SEC tournament at all?
- 35:39Speaker 5: It's here again, I assume it's here.
- 35:40Speaker 4: It is.
- 35:41Speaker 3: I've never not gone. That's true, and we'll probably as
- 35:44Speaker 3: long as we play. We play Florida. They're really good.
- 35:49Speaker 3: They're they're leading the SEC. We're second they're first, but
- 35:52Speaker 3: they're up with two games. Uh, they're really good, and
- 35:54Speaker 3: we play them in Gainesville I think Wednesday. Yeah, CC
- 35:59Speaker 3: is good. Yeah, we're good. I mean Arkansas's good. That's good. Yeah,
- 36:04Speaker 3: Tennessee is getting good now, like they're kind of growing
- 36:06Speaker 3: that it meant freshman, Yeah, he's he played terrible against US.
- 36:10Speaker 3: He was just like fish out of water, but now
- 36:12Speaker 3: he's starting to be played really well. Who else Vanderbilt's
- 36:17Speaker 3: good in Spurts they're just too white.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Hmm, you mean like you mean like that.
- 36:24Speaker 3: Yeah, they just don't have athleticism, they don't have big
- 36:26Speaker 3: they're just they're just they're just too slow something.
- 36:30Speaker 2: I see what you're saying.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it makes sense. Ye, it's all like
- 36:34Speaker 3: one or two. But it's like Perdue, Like Perdue always
- 36:37Speaker 3: plays well until they got to play somebody that's actually
- 36:39Speaker 3: has real athletes.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Remember that Princeton team a couple of years ago. They
- 36:43Speaker 2: went pretty far into you know, they.
- 36:44Speaker 3: Played slow, they played they just played back and played
- 36:49Speaker 3: slow and keep away. You know, you only have so
- 36:51Speaker 3: many white guys. Yeah, it's true.
- 36:57Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 36:58Speaker 3: What you are You.
- 37:02Speaker 4: All right?
- 37:02Speaker 3: Speaking of basketball, let's talk to NBA Hall of Fame
- 37:05Speaker 3: guard Tim Hardaway. It's Tim Hardaway Senior. Now, yeah, because
- 37:09Speaker 3: the Sun plays. But he's got a book called Killer Crossover.
- 37:12Speaker 3: He's known for his crossover. Back in the day, NBA
- 37:14Speaker 3: Jam played it with him. Five time All Star, the
- 37:16Speaker 3: Heat retired as number ten Jersey. What's crazy. I don't
- 37:19Speaker 3: think of him as a Heat player. I think of
- 37:21Speaker 3: him as a warrior player. See and I only think
- 37:22Speaker 3: of him as a Heat player. Yeah, age, big thanks
- 37:26Speaker 3: to Tim for coming on here. He is Tim Hardaway Sr.
- 37:29Speaker 3: Let's welcome on, Tim Hardaway Senior. He's got a book
- 37:31Speaker 3: called Killer Crossover. I just want to start so I
- 37:33Speaker 3: don't forget to say this, Tim, I played with you
- 37:36Speaker 3: on NBA Jam all the time, like you and Mullin.
- 37:40Speaker 3: I've played with you guys all the time. Do you
- 37:42Speaker 3: hear that from people in a certain age range?
- 37:44Speaker 7: Yes, we do.
- 37:47Speaker 3: You could dunk, you could shoot whenever you were playing ball.
- 37:51Speaker 3: Was that cool for you guys?
- 37:52Speaker 1: You know what people to say. I could dunk on there.
- 37:55Speaker 1: I've seen myself dunk on there. I played with myself
- 37:59Speaker 1: on there with Chris and Mitch. I have seen other
- 38:02Speaker 1: people play with us, and you know, it's a lot
- 38:07Speaker 1: of fun. It is a lot of fun, and a
- 38:10Speaker 1: lot of these guys and they real big fans of
- 38:14Speaker 1: doing those video games and all that. When I see
- 38:17Speaker 1: them working their stick or working them with their thumbs
- 38:21Speaker 1: and they hands and all that, it's amazing because you know,
- 38:24Speaker 1: we went out there and played basketball, you know, our thumbs.
- 38:28Speaker 1: A lot of guys had to stop playing it because
- 38:30Speaker 1: carpor tunnel or or or you had your thumbs and
- 38:34Speaker 1: everything was hurting.
- 38:35Speaker 7: So, yeah, you had to be careful.
- 38:36Speaker 3: With that growing up in Chicago, and you end up
- 38:39Speaker 3: going to utub which I don't I don't know why
- 38:42Speaker 3: you chose you tip. I'm sure there are a lot
- 38:43Speaker 3: of reasons. But was the dream to go to the
- 38:46Speaker 3: NBA was just to play college ball because that was
- 38:49Speaker 3: the next step.
- 38:49Speaker 1: So when I was coming out of high school, I
- 38:51Speaker 1: was was not recruited. I was not recruited. Not one
- 38:56Speaker 1: Division one team recruited me. Not even Division two team
- 39:01Speaker 1: recruited me. They thought I was too small, and I
- 39:04Speaker 1: never went to camps that All American Camp, Nike All
- 39:09Speaker 1: American Camp, or this camp here or that camp there.
- 39:13Speaker 7: You had to have sponsors, as they used to call them.
- 39:15Speaker 1: You had to have some people that would was, you know,
- 39:18Speaker 1: paid three four, five, six, seven hundred dollars for you
- 39:22Speaker 1: to go. I didn't have nobody that that would pay
- 39:25Speaker 1: for me to go. And I never asked nobody to
- 39:29Speaker 1: pay for me to go, because if I thought I belonged,
- 39:31Speaker 1: I thought that somebody would send me or somebody would
- 39:34Speaker 1: sponsor me. So I just left it alone. So I
- 39:37Speaker 1: stayed at home. It was the best of both worlds
- 39:39Speaker 1: for me. I stayed at home and played with guys
- 39:42Speaker 1: like Ricky Green that was with you know, the Golden
- 39:45Speaker 1: State Warriors or the Utah Jazz. Then I played with
- 39:49Speaker 1: guys with like Mo Cheeks and Doc Rivers and all
- 39:53Speaker 1: overseas guys Carl Knicks. You know, I played with those
- 39:57Speaker 1: guys all the time during the summer, so I was
- 40:00Speaker 1: I was really learning professional basketball when I was playing
- 40:04Speaker 1: with these guys in Chicago at different parks, different rec
- 40:08Speaker 1: leagues and stuff like that. So when people came back
- 40:12Speaker 1: and they was they came back and had all this gear,
- 40:15Speaker 1: all this Nike gee, all this deepest gear and all
- 40:17Speaker 1: this and all that.
- 40:18Speaker 7: I didn't have none of that.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I just had my just a little small bag and
- 40:22Speaker 1: I was just going out here playing. They was like, man,
- 40:25Speaker 1: what you doing. I said, Man, I'm playing against real pros.
- 40:29Speaker 1: I'm not playing against these other guys y'all going for
- 40:31Speaker 1: I'm playing against real pros. And I'm holding my own
- 40:35Speaker 1: against real pros. And they're like wow. And you know,
- 40:40Speaker 1: as I got better, as I got better, they saw
- 40:43Speaker 1: and they was like, you know, we probably making a mistake.
- 40:47Speaker 6: You know.
- 40:48Speaker 7: But a guy named Russ Bradford used to keep in
- 40:51Speaker 7: touch with me. He's from Chicago, from the North Side.
- 40:55Speaker 1: And somebody said, yo, man, you know you need to
- 40:58Speaker 1: look at this guy named Tim Harder.
- 41:00Speaker 7: I think he'd be good for textall Passo. And he was.
- 41:03Speaker 1: He was an assistant coach, and he was a scout that
- 41:05Speaker 1: Texas old Passle and he can't even watch me play
- 41:08Speaker 1: all summer along, all summer alone for about two summers,
- 41:13Speaker 1: and he watched me and here and I was the
- 41:16Speaker 1: last guy that Don Haskins went to go and recruit,
- 41:20Speaker 1: watching me at practice, watching me at a game, and
- 41:23Speaker 1: he offered me a contract.
- 41:25Speaker 7: That's how I got to l Passle.
- 41:26Speaker 1: And and you know, it was a blessing in disguise
- 41:28Speaker 1: because I need to get away from Chicago. I need
- 41:31Speaker 1: to get as far as well from Chicago and do
- 41:33Speaker 1: my own thing and find my own path and find myself.
- 41:38Speaker 1: And the Old Passo was the greatest place. It's well
- 41:44Speaker 1: kept secret. And I keep telling folks that if you
- 41:46Speaker 1: want to get away and get your mind together and
- 41:50Speaker 1: get your life together, go to l Pastor.
- 41:52Speaker 7: They great people, genuine people. You don't have to worry
- 41:57Speaker 7: about nobody.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Lying to you, stealing from you. They take care of you,
- 42:03Speaker 1: that listen to you to help you. And it's just
- 42:07Speaker 1: genuine there. Man, just really really genuine there. It was
- 42:11Speaker 1: just great for me. I tell folks that all the time.
- 42:14Speaker 1: They're like, what Old Passo texts. I'm like, yes, So
- 42:17Speaker 1: that's how I got the Old pass On. And I
- 42:19Speaker 1: just had to wait my turn. You know, Patience is
- 42:21Speaker 1: a virtue. I just wanted to go show people that
- 42:23Speaker 1: I could play Division one basketball. And it was right
- 42:29Speaker 1: out the gate. We had Georgetown come up l Passo
- 42:33Speaker 1: and play us. There was number one team and I
- 42:36Speaker 1: was the only one that could get through the press.
- 42:39Speaker 1: And as a freshman, I was controlling the tempo and
- 42:42Speaker 1: I only played about twelve minutes, but I was controlling
- 42:45Speaker 1: the tempo and I was making plays for my teammates
- 42:49Speaker 1: to run offense, So it worked out very well. You
- 42:52Speaker 1: just got to know what it is you need to
- 42:54Speaker 1: do and just be patient about doing it.
- 42:56Speaker 3: To me, I was a big fan again of you
- 42:59Speaker 3: guys back in the day because I did play with
- 43:01Speaker 3: you on NBA JAM. So then I would try to
- 43:03Speaker 3: watch as many games as I can watch with you guys.
- 43:05Speaker 3: But it seems like with you and Maulin and Richmond,
- 43:09Speaker 3: like if you guys could have stayed together longer, like
- 43:11Speaker 3: I feel like there could have been some real titles there.
- 43:13Speaker 3: Do you feel that way?
- 43:14Speaker 7: I definitely feel that way.
- 43:16Speaker 1: I definitely feel that if we would have kept Mitch,
- 43:19Speaker 1: that we would have been able to contend for a title.
- 43:22Speaker 1: I tell people that all the time. You know, I
- 43:25Speaker 1: just wish we was together and Nelly would have just
- 43:28Speaker 1: kept that core together and we were able to build
- 43:34Speaker 1: around us because we had some good guys. We have
- 43:36Speaker 1: some good teammates and we you know, each year, we
- 43:40Speaker 1: knew what we need to do and how.
- 43:42Speaker 7: We needed to do it.
- 43:44Speaker 1: And I think when we lost to the Lakers, we
- 43:47Speaker 1: kind of knew the next year exactly how to approach
- 43:53Speaker 1: the next year and how we need to play and
- 43:56Speaker 1: what we need to do to get better and to
- 43:59Speaker 1: make it further in the playoffs, and it never happened.
- 44:03Speaker 3: Was that something you voice to, you know, your coach Nelson, like,
- 44:06Speaker 3: what's going on here? Or was it above even him?
- 44:09Speaker 7: Right?
- 44:09Speaker 1: Well, you know it was him. He pulled the trigger
- 44:12Speaker 1: on it, and that was that. We didn't have no
- 44:15Speaker 1: say so any we knew after the fact. He called
- 44:18Speaker 1: Chris Mullen and myself in the room after he made
- 44:22Speaker 1: the trade and it was over. We had to deal
- 44:24Speaker 1: with it. And that's the way things you know, happened
- 44:26Speaker 1: back in the day. You know, you had to you know,
- 44:29Speaker 1: they made a decision and you had to deal with
- 44:31Speaker 1: it and just go.
- 44:33Speaker 3: It feels like the players now have pretty much all
- 44:35Speaker 3: of the power in the league. Do you feel like
- 44:38Speaker 3: that wasn't the case back when you guys were playing.
- 44:40Speaker 7: That wasn't the case. That was not the case.
- 44:42Speaker 1: You know, Michael Jordan didn't even have power over the Bulls.
- 44:46Speaker 1: It was all Jerry Crouse. Jerry Krouse made that team.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Jerry Krouse built that team, you know, the same way
- 44:53Speaker 1: with Pat Rolly. He built the team and in Miami
- 44:57Speaker 1: and he's you know, he's still doing stuff. He don't
- 44:59Speaker 1: go into asks a team or the players. You know
- 45:02Speaker 1: what he needs and what he thinks is best for
- 45:05Speaker 1: them or you know what they is best for the team.
- 45:09Speaker 1: He just go out there and thinks was best for him,
- 45:11Speaker 1: I mean for them and make it happen, you know,
- 45:15Speaker 1: And you can't be hasty about it. You know, you
- 45:18Speaker 1: got to really think about long term, what your team
- 45:22Speaker 1: is going to have long term is it's going to
- 45:24Speaker 1: be short term, It's going to be right now. You know,
- 45:27Speaker 1: when he got Shock, it was right now. You know,
- 45:29Speaker 1: it wasn't like two years or three years. We got
- 45:33Speaker 1: to win this thing right now, and they wanted right now.
- 45:37Speaker 1: That's what made it a big deal when he traded
- 45:41Speaker 1: for Shaq. Get to know what you're getting into, and
- 45:43Speaker 1: you can't be hasty about I.
- 45:45Speaker 3: Wrote a couple of books, and when I wrote my books,
- 45:46Speaker 3: through a lot of things that came up that I
- 45:48Speaker 3: kind of forgotten about. Not that didn't happen to me,
- 45:50Speaker 3: but you're just reliving some stuff. You're like, oh, yeah,
- 45:52Speaker 3: I didn't think about that. I write that, Like in
- 45:54Speaker 3: your book, did you have any of those moments where
- 45:55Speaker 3: you're going, man, I didn't think about that in a
- 45:57Speaker 3: long time, and it kind of reintroduced you some of
- 45:59Speaker 3: his all memories all the time.
- 46:01Speaker 1: All the time I'm talking about it, you know, I'm
- 46:04Speaker 1: thinking about it. And as I'm writing about it. The
- 46:07Speaker 1: guy that helped me out, Jake Uddy, really really helped
- 46:11Speaker 1: me out. And when he was talking and asked me questions,
- 46:15Speaker 1: I was going back and I was like, oh, you know, wait, wait, wait,
- 46:17Speaker 1: wait wait. You know, matter of fact, last week when
- 46:21Speaker 1: we talked and we said this, and we said that,
- 46:23Speaker 1: you know, I wanted I missed out on this important
- 46:29Speaker 1: component about this piece that I wanted to say. And yeah,
- 46:34Speaker 1: it went back and forth, back and forth. And then
- 46:36Speaker 1: when you really, you know, editing reading, you know, you
- 46:39Speaker 1: go back three, four, five times and read the same paragraph.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Did you want to make is it saying what you
- 46:46Speaker 1: really wanted to say? Is getting that message the way
- 46:49Speaker 1: you wanted to get get it out? It was interesting,
- 46:52Speaker 1: you know, it's very interesting. Was it was cool to
- 46:55Speaker 1: me to go back and relive a lot of things that.
- 47:00Speaker 3: I forgot about going to the Olympics.
- 47:02Speaker 1: What was that like, Man, I tell you this, First
- 47:06Speaker 1: of all, getting picked for the Olympics, they come to
- 47:08Speaker 1: you and say, hey, you're gonna be on the Olympic team.
- 47:11Speaker 1: That's special. That's very special. It's not you know, getting
- 47:16Speaker 1: picked for the All Star team. This is getting picked
- 47:18Speaker 1: for your country and you represent your country out on
- 47:22Speaker 1: the basketball court. And there's twelve guys, thirteen guys, really,
- 47:26Speaker 1: twelve guys that have to come together and put their
- 47:29Speaker 1: egos aside and check their egos at the door and
- 47:33Speaker 1: have to come together and play as a team.
- 47:36Speaker 7: Not an All Star team.
- 47:38Speaker 1: We're talking about as a professional team that you're gonna
- 47:43Speaker 1: be with for about forty days, fifty days, and from
- 47:47Speaker 1: day one at practice, you know, it's about us, It's
- 47:52Speaker 1: about USA. It's not about Tim hard Away, Gary Payton,
- 47:57Speaker 1: Jason Kidd, Vince Carter. You know, we know we're gonna
- 48:01Speaker 1: have some guys on the team that's going to excel
- 48:04Speaker 1: each and every game. We know we're gonna have some
- 48:06Speaker 1: guys that's going to play well. But everybody has to
- 48:10Speaker 1: go out there and do their job and understand what
- 48:13Speaker 1: their job is.
- 48:15Speaker 7: We knew that very very quickly.
- 48:18Speaker 1: That's why we was able to go out there and
- 48:21Speaker 1: play well and win the goal. So it was great,
- 48:25Speaker 1: you know, just spending time with those guys.
- 48:28Speaker 7: They built us in Australia.
- 48:29Speaker 1: They supposed to built us a nice hotel, but it
- 48:32Speaker 1: was a small hotel where they we had small rooms.
- 48:37Speaker 1: It wasn't difficult, but it wasn't what we was a customer.
- 48:43Speaker 1: We dealt with it and understood that that was it,
- 48:46Speaker 1: and we dealt with it.
- 48:47Speaker 3: I love the book cover. How many did you go
- 48:49Speaker 3: through before you picked that? You know, it's it's basically
- 48:51Speaker 3: two pictures. You do it a crossing over. But it's
- 48:53Speaker 3: a lot of faded versions of that as well. I'm
- 48:56Speaker 3: sure you went through a bunch. Why this one?
- 48:58Speaker 1: Well, first of all, go the State Warriors Miami Heat,
- 49:01Speaker 1: two of the teams. You know, everybody said which team
- 49:04Speaker 1: you go in in the Hall of Fame. What I said, man,
- 49:07Speaker 1: is both teams. Six years with the Miami going to
- 49:10Speaker 1: State Warriors, six years with the with the Miami Heat.
- 49:14Speaker 1: I had great years, great organizations, you know, all Star games,
- 49:20Speaker 1: all NBA teams. It was fitting to have you know,
- 49:25Speaker 1: both of them jerseys on at the same time and
- 49:29Speaker 1: showing me just dribbling a basketball. But yeah, we went
- 49:33Speaker 1: through about what I say about five five to six
- 49:38Speaker 1: different pitchers and everything, and once this came up.
- 49:41Speaker 7: I was like, oh, hell yeah, I like this. I
- 49:44Speaker 7: really like this. This is what we're going with. This
- 49:46Speaker 7: is what this is me right there?
- 49:48Speaker 3: It works awesome, big Fan. I really appreciate the time.
- 49:51Speaker 3: I hope that you're getting everything out of the book
- 49:52Speaker 3: that you wanted. It's called Killer Crossover My life from
- 49:55Speaker 3: the Chicago Streets to Basketball Royalty. Again, big Fan really
- 49:59Speaker 3: appreciates time, Tim, and I hope you have a great
- 50:01Speaker 3: rest of the day. Man, Thank you so much, Thank.
- 50:03Speaker 7: You, appreciate you and continue success.
- 50:06Speaker 3: Thank you Tim. All right, that's gonna do it. Thank
- 50:10Speaker 3: you everybody for being here. How's everybody feel. A little
- 50:12Speaker 3: hockey talk today?
- 50:13Speaker 2: Pretty good?
- 50:14Speaker 3: A little educated hockey talk.
- 50:15Speaker 2: The diversity of our podcast. Man, how cool is that.
- 50:19Speaker 3: I did see someone right? Speaking of slow white guys
- 50:22Speaker 3: I'm talking about with like Vanderbilt. When the US won hockey,
- 50:26Speaker 3: they were calling that white boy Winter nice. Yeah, there
- 50:32Speaker 3: you go, interesting, Like there's like, uh like bad girl Summer,
- 50:37Speaker 3: that white monny white guy Winter. There you go. Thank
- 50:41Speaker 3: you all for being here. We hope you enjoyed the show.
- 50:44Speaker 3: And we will see you guys whenever we see you again,
- 50:48Speaker 3: because we got this cruise going on. We hope you
- 50:51Speaker 3: back later. We don't know what's gonna happen, but we
- 50:53Speaker 3: will see you soon. All right, Hit It all Right
