- 2:06How are you tonight, sir? What's going on guys?
- 2:10What is going on doing wonderful tonight, man?
- 2:13That's the last time we're going to bring you on Midstream and
- 2:17from here on out, we're going to roll it from the gate Curtis and
- 2:21Brian had a baby. And that baby, this is what you
- 2:26got the combination of the combination of Brian.
- 2:32This dally lizard, man. It is so awesome to have you.
- 2:35Now as part of this with, you know, you have such a great
- 2:40voice out there, amongst Hokie Nation, you got a lot of great
- 2:44ideas, a lot of great thoughts. So for those who have not don't
- 2:49know you, let's get a little background.
- 2:52You know who you are where you're from?
- 2:53You know. Etc, etc.
- 2:56Yeah, so I'm nobody cause I'm seeing my name.
- 3:00Scroll across the bottom. It says welcome aboard.
- 3:03Jonathan tally. Nobody calls me that.
- 3:08So yes, my real name is Jonathan tally and everybody, the cosmi
- 3:12tally or JT, but I've been in Alabama, my whole life.
- 3:18Born and raised here. Small town called Columbia and
- 3:21Alabama, went to a small, high school college, Shelby County,
- 3:25High School, After High School with the Jacksonville State
- 3:29playing, you know, basketball, baseball and football.
- 3:32My you know years coming up and then got pretty serious about
- 3:37football. In high school ended up having a
- 3:40severe knee injury and figure it out.
- 3:44I didn't love sports as much as I thought I did.
- 3:48So I didn't progress with with football after that injury MCL
- 3:55ACL and PCL and this is well so all that up everything.
- 4:01Everything It's moldy, you tore it up, exploded in this was, you
- 4:05know, 2004. So yeah medicine was a little
- 4:09bit different so still went to school still, you know, partied
- 4:18a lot and had some fun but again been here my whole life, I got a
- 4:23brother that's a little bit older than me.
- 4:25He's about 12 years older than me when he graduated high
- 4:28school, he went to the Navy like Graduated one day went to the
- 4:33Navy, the next. So he was stationed up in
- 4:37Norfolk, Virginia and visiting him and getting stuff from him,
- 4:42getting care packages from him, all consisted of Virginia Tech
- 4:47stuff. So, Him being a teen be being
- 4:50six at the time. You know, I kind of took to the
- 4:55to the Hokies back then and yeah, of course, who doesn't
- 4:58love Michael Vick in the Vick family.
- 4:59Once you start watching the Hokies and there on the field.
- 5:02So I've been following the following the following the
- 5:06Hokies ever since man and been crying ever since as well.
- 5:11I guess that's true. That's true.
- 5:13It is a real tears. Let me ask you real quick just
- 5:17because you know, you played, obviously you played at a good
- 5:20enough level to get a Collegiate scholarship.
- 5:22To an FCS school. What positions did you play?
- 5:24Just so when you chime in and say something about it, like all
- 5:29right. Y'all listen, he ain't just a
- 5:30guy that's talking shit, right? Yeah, hehe.
- 5:33I do a lot of that. I do a lot of that.
- 5:50You know what? I'm watching the game and I'm
- 5:52critiquing. That's why I start looking, you
- 5:54know. It's a lot of us, a lot of
- 5:56positions on the field at a glory positions that we all
- 6:00follow. But you know, I know guys like
- 6:03me and Brian when you've been in those trenches man, you you
- 6:06don't forget them. So I'm looking at that line a
- 6:09lot of times and looking at the tight ends and things like that.
- 6:12So it's been good though man. We've had some we've had some
- 6:18Some fun times. I'm like you said, I knew you
- 6:20guys for three to four years now and I'm definitely excited to be
- 6:25here, man. It's a, sometimes it's a real.
- 6:27Like I said, even just seeing your name going across the
- 6:30bottom is kind of surreal to be like, okay, I'm going to pop,
- 6:33I'm a part of a podcast, you know.
- 6:34I had to tell some friends and family had to go to a birthday
- 6:36party earlier. Hey man, I got to get home.
- 6:38I got a record Iraq. When I love that.
- 6:41Yeah, we love having you aboard. It's been something that we've
- 6:45been kind of talking about for a while and we're glad add to be
- 6:49able to put it in motion and bring some of this new content
- 6:52out there to the, to the listeners, to the listeners.
- 6:55All right, so we go, we gonna go and roll call here because we
- 6:58got to find out yours. Brian.
- 6:59Your first game in Layton stadium was yeard game.
- 7:04I was in Rutgers. It was 02.
- 7:09The Kevin Jones. Insane got trapped in a corner
- 7:11running, cut it back as the game.
- 7:13His first. Yes, sir.
- 7:14Yes, sir. I was 0. 3 U CF D Hall playing
- 7:18everywhere. Literally that game my eye
- 7:23buddy. God Rest, his soul, Brian
- 7:24Wilkerson and a friend of ours, Blair Waldorf took me to that
- 7:28game now 20 years ago. So tally.
- 7:31You got to tell everybody what was your first game?
- 7:33And Lanes, 2016, 2016 2016 Miami came to town.
- 7:40I think it was a Thursday. It was a Thursday night game.
- 7:43She's like a great game to go to man, a great game to go to
- 7:48Thursday night, Lane Stadium, me and a buddy.
- 7:51We went to college together. He's a tech fan as well.
- 7:55He's not as active on social media, but we've been up to then
- 8:00up to Blacksburg a couple of times together and we knew
- 8:03Nobody we just said you know we've been Virginia, Tech fans
- 8:06all through college and we make enough money to go to a game.
- 8:10Let's go to a game. So here we go.
- 8:12Came up to the Miami game and it was a week, his car.
- 8:16I remember we parked, I can't remember what the story is but
- 8:19it's a store that's like on the other side of the bookstore like
- 8:23a gas that it's not really a gas station, I don't think.
- 8:25But it looks like a gas station. Okay.
- 8:27In school I don't know what it's called though.
- 8:30But it's on the same side of the road as the bookstore, but just
- 8:34maybe a block down the road and we parked in his car got tired.
- 8:39Well, it applies that was our first introduction to Blacksburg
- 8:43and and the cops there. So from his fourth are, you will
- 8:49let our sponsor at Main Street Pharmacy.
- 8:52There know you're in town, so you can just park over.
- 8:54Yeah, Jeremy what he drives. Orange Challenger.
- 9:01Oh man, it wasn't it wasn't hard to spot.
- 9:05It was gone. All right, so one last piece of
- 9:09the puzzle here 16 Miami, Thursday night game, we smack
- 9:13them down and you've been a fan for a long time.
- 9:17Who's your favorite hokey? My favorite hokey.
- 9:21It's got to be my man, all right.
- 9:23Got to be Mike Vick and I know that's cliche but like I'm it's
- 9:27deeper than meeting just football, you know.
- 9:30Watch Watching him. I'm a bit.
- 9:31Kobe fan as well. And you know, it's not that I
- 9:34want somebody to get in trouble, but to watch somebody go through
- 9:40adversity, and bounce back like they've done Mike and Kobe.
- 9:44It is crazy. And to meet like I met Mike in a
- 9:48in a Cracker Barrel here in Huntsville, Alabama, it's like I
- 9:52can't not say Mike. Yeah, you know, it's a lot of
- 9:54other people in that and I think he told that story the first
- 9:57time you came home with I love you did.
- 9:59Like somebody told you Mike Because in Cracker Barrel and
- 10:01you got in your car and drove, right?
- 10:03Like I'm at home sleep and I've got a buddy who was a head
- 10:07server at Cracker Barrel who was calling my phone and I usually
- 10:11put my phone on vibrate when I when I sleep like I had woke up
- 10:15and went back to sleep and then I wake up and it's like 30
- 10:18missed calls. Look like do do you understand
- 10:21Mike Vick is here and I'm like Michael Vick ain't there.
- 10:25I think he's here right now. So I just grabbed my Mike Vick
- 10:29jersey. He and like beelined it to this
- 10:32is about 10 minutes away. Yeah.
- 10:33But the crazy thing was he told Mike I was coming like he was
- 10:38like hey I got a buddy that is a big Virginia Tech fan and he
- 10:41wants to meet you and he's like tell him to take his time, just
- 10:44will hang out till he gets here. So that was pretty cool man and
- 10:49he was like, so down to earth Marcus was there as well, but
- 10:54they would just like in there by themselves, just chilling.
- 10:57You know, Cracker Barrel whole bunch of old white people.
- 11:00Why do whatever I come in there? I'm like, got my hokey stuff on.
- 11:05I got my jersey, hold my old, my shoulder and like almost
- 11:09Starstruck six to three hundred and eighty pound man wanting to
- 11:14cry because he's meeting his childhood hero.
- 11:16You know if that means also did was crazy.
- 11:19But that that was a, that was a that was a great time.
- 11:22And again, just for for me to meet him and him to be as humble
- 11:29as he is to. Be everything he's done in his
- 11:32life. It was, it was a pretty good.
- 11:34It was a pretty good experience. Yeah, that was cool him and him
- 11:37hanging out to you got there to like, oh yeah.
- 11:39Yeah, take your time. We'll be here hanging.
- 11:42We just be here hanging at the Cracker Barrel in the middle of
- 11:44Alabama. Yeah, just gonna hang out here.
- 11:47No way. People eat chicken fried steak
- 11:48next to him. Yeah, yeah exactly.
- 11:52You got Marcus and Mike walking in with Lewis bags and Now, once
- 12:01I started taking pictures, I think people started like, he's
- 12:04somebody famous. Let's figure out what's here
- 12:05today. I just guys don't take long
- 12:07after that. I got my I got my signatures and
- 12:10left. There you go.
- 12:12Thanks, thank you for waiting for me.
- 12:13Thank you, thank you, thank you. Yeah, we'll go home because I
- 12:15know you want to probably eat and go back to wherever you go.
- 12:19All right. Well tally again, it's awesome.
- 12:21That you are now going to be joining us and you know what, we
- 12:25thought we had this rundown. We got together about what 9:00
- 12:29this morning went through thing. Things.
- 12:30Hey, we ready to go and of course what happens this
- 12:35afternoon that the breaking news comes out, Andy bitter.
- 12:39First reported it, come from Justin Williams at the athletic
- 12:42that quarterback coach Brad. Glenn is going to be taking over
- 12:46as the Cincinnati. Bearcats offensive coordinator
- 12:50and quarterback coach and a statement from Brent pry.
- 12:53He just basically says he wants to congratulate Brad on his new
- 12:56opportunity at Cincinnati as the o.c.
- 13:00He rises long-standing relationship with Scott
- 13:03Satterfield to coach at Sensi, who was previously at
- 13:06Louisville. Basically, a lot of time with
- 13:10them their he's thankful for bread and supporting his career
- 13:13and they appreciate his family's time and wish him the best.
- 13:18It's really late in the process but I won't blame Brian for this
- 13:21because his Colts decided to go higher the Cincinnati.
- 13:25OH see just a couple days ago, it's my fault.
- 13:30Okay, I guess be real y'all. It is not the best time.
- 13:36We are about three weeks away, right?
- 13:40I'm on a new computer here. What?
- 13:41Three weeks away from Spring ball.
- 13:43Getting real four weeks away. Yeah. 34 weeks away from pretty
- 13:46cool dolls. Yeah.
- 13:47From getting going and now we're at a point where we're going to
- 13:51have to bring in a new quarterback coach or someone may
- 13:55be an offensive analyst and we've got to figure this out.
- 14:00So Tally, I'll leave with you. When you, when you read the
- 14:03stuff they what was your first couple thoughts?
- 14:05I'm a little different man. You know, I was like, so what
- 14:09I'd say it like that, but it was like, I didn't really have a
- 14:13feeling toward it because I haven't paid much attention to
- 14:17brag. Liam, I'm sure he's a great
- 14:19coach of great guy for him to get a raise and, you know, to go
- 14:25up in job because I think he's also see where he's going right
- 14:27now. Yeah, I'm sure he's got some
- 14:29skill. But I hadn't I hadn't seen his
- 14:32value at Virginia Tech yet. So it wasn't like, it was crazy
- 14:37news to me that he was leaving. Again not great timing.
- 14:40So that is a little bit alarming.
- 14:42Like, what are we going to do in typical Virginia Tech fashion?
- 14:45They're probably going to hire from within promote somebody
- 14:48until next year or something, but when you talk about, maybe
- 14:52recruiting or even some of the primary pieces that he was
- 14:57coaching a lot of times they mentioned, Bow and more than a
- 15:01mentioned. Glenn are from what I heard.
- 15:03So it wasn't it wasn't up in arms, you know what I'm saying?
- 15:08Like you're somebody would have said Chris Marvin's leaving
- 15:11today or Tyler Bowens leaving today.
- 15:14I would have been like oh there's a season, you know what
- 15:16I mean? We're going to hit me a little
- 15:18different, got you. They said when they said Glenn
- 15:21is leaving, it was just like okay we gotta replace him but
- 15:24yeah, I know for what we are. I think we are.
- 15:28Okay, got it Ron. Yeah, I kind of felt separately.
- 15:32I mean, I was looking at it and I was like, all right, well,
- 15:35because I'm kind of indifferent. All the value that brag Glenn
- 15:39was bringing at this point, because when we looked at it, we
- 15:43saw We looked at it. We got not the greatest output
- 15:49last year but you weren't working with a whole lot but
- 15:52Brad hadn't done a whole lot on the recruiting Trail either.
- 15:55You know a lot of the guys that have been brought in even
- 15:57quarterbacks had been you know Bowen guys so especially we look
- 16:02at our own drones in particular that was a guy that Boeing went
- 16:05out there. He got to bolster up the
- 16:08quarterback room so when we look at it from that perspective you
- 16:12know a lot of lot of my opinion on This is good or bad for the
- 16:16Hokies. Give depend on who the next guy
- 16:19is, if it's a internal promotion, then it's probably a
- 16:24net -, yes, we're probably looking at a drop off in terms
- 16:29of overall coaching ability. Whether we're you know, getting
- 16:33a little bit of that back on some of the recruiting side,
- 16:36that's to be seen. But on the from that front,
- 16:39that's when it would be a negative.
- 16:41But if we go out and get somebody that has some, you
- 16:43know, either The G5 or power 5 experience to come in and take
- 16:48that role. Then I think that might
- 16:50potentially be a net positive. Especially if that person is
- 16:54shown some aptitude on the recruiting Trail before us and
- 16:56especially if they've been recruiting in this footprint.
- 16:59Yeah, I mean I'm with y'all on the way, I mean, I don't like
- 17:03the timing of it, but as far as Brad, Glenn goes, this was his
- 17:06first power 5 job. Brad had been a coach, you know,
- 17:10in the Collegiate ranks since 2005.
- 17:12He was a tap State forever, Western Carolina, Georgia State.
- 17:15So this was his first step up and then having the relationship
- 17:18with Scott Satterfield. Okay.
- 17:24Here's Robbie as one of our coaching buddies, their tally
- 17:27that you will meet soon. Trust me and I think y'all are
- 17:30gonna hit it off, great, but it's also a friend Emma Skye
- 17:34Satterfield coach together for quite a few years up adapt
- 17:37State. They had a relationship.
- 17:39And then you're saying for us is like hey can you blame him?
- 17:43Hey come Be My OC. W pay be in charge of
- 17:47everything. We're going to the big 12 next
- 17:49year. No and if for nothing else it
- 17:51again it's going to look at as far as ramp rago's.
- 17:54It's like well way saying if you come here you might have an
- 17:58opportunity to take a step if you have those connections
- 18:01because you know, even though it wasn't the best output in even
- 18:05though Brad's not the best recruiter, I think Brad's
- 18:07probably a good solid. Collegiate football, coach.
- 18:10But what we're talking about and it's like, we're buying saying,
- 18:13like it's neutral right now, depending on who we hire is, he
- 18:18wasn't in on drones, that was bowling.
- 18:20He wasn't in on Pop Watson, who's the guy?
- 18:22We flip the four star that was flipped at the end of the cycle
- 18:25last time. So, you know, it's like it
- 18:30sucks. It's close.
- 18:31But you feel like we can probably put someone there.
- 18:36Maybe not as good as a coach but maybe a better After which, in
- 18:39this day and age, you know, you've got to be able to recruit
- 18:43and let's talk about Replacements, you know, Brian
- 18:45just through. I mean, Robbie, just threw a
- 18:47name up there that I hadn't even thought about Brian Crispin, a
- 18:50been, a offensive analyst you for a couple years.
- 18:52Does he get his shot? Possibly possibly.
- 18:57Yeah we got it. We have somebody on the roster
- 18:59this done done some of that. I mean Chris has done some of
- 19:02that, we got another guy that's younger than some of that.
- 19:04So we got to probably a couple guys that could be looking in
- 19:08line for promotion and tally. I'll let you go go and your
- 19:11point. Yeah.
- 19:11So my thing is if you look at the quarterback room and you
- 19:15look at the quarterback position from last year, can it get
- 19:20worse? I mean, I'm not.
- 19:25Last note, we have nine interceptions.
- 19:55Somebody internally in there. I don't think that you can get
- 19:59worse than we were. There you go.
- 20:01That's a good idea. And I and also just say drones
- 20:04comes in and he tears it up this year.
- 20:07What what do you do? I mean with the with the job
- 20:11it's true. If the guy who's coaching them
- 20:14that you say, it's his, he done it and then you promote him full
- 20:17term out. It's a lot of ways to go.
- 20:20A lot of ways to go and it's going to be interesting to see
- 20:23what happens in. The next few weeks here about
- 20:27that position and I don't think we're going to be waiting.
- 20:28Long mean, it was our plan is probably come on here.
- 20:31Next week, I had a feeling there's going to be one in place
- 20:33by then we will be talking about it.
- 20:35So let's roll on on last week in this was after tally joined, but
- 20:41he was at work, one day making the bread because we, you know,
- 20:45we are three full-time. We have our professional
- 20:48careers, we got on his husband's, we are fathers.
- 20:53So, there's gonna be times where only one of or two of us all
- 20:58really. That's why you won't Brian Kris.
- 21:00Hyung, was he there when you play know?
- 21:03He would. Okay, what the Ryan, silver
- 21:05filled situation, only one around, but, you know, we have a
- 21:13lot of stuff going on. So, last week, last Thursday,
- 21:16evening, me and mr. Siegel here, got to sit down
- 21:20with starting offensive lineman. Or got to talk with him.
- 21:25So we're going to play that interview.
- 21:26You guys going to play that interview for y'all.
- 21:28Now it was a really good time. Cadence, great, young man, fun
- 21:32to talk to. He might reveal some
- 21:35information, he wasn't supposed to reveal but hey, breaking news
- 21:39in just a few minutes, you're going to hear something from
- 21:41Kate more, that might shock people because I don't know if
- 21:44it's been on boards or talk behind the scenes.
- 21:47But Brian, let's roll the Katie Moore interview.
- 21:52Caden more out of Freedom, High School in Bethlehem,
- 21:56Pennsylvania, All-American freshman in 2021, also a Triumph
- 22:02and IO athlete and Brian, would you say he's number 68 in the
- 22:07program's. Number one in your heart though.
- 22:09We got Caden more jumping on with us tonight.
- 22:12Kate, how you doing? Good.
- 22:14How are you? We do.
- 22:16Good man. Doing real good night, man.
- 22:18Just just finished a little dinner here.
- 22:22The r-va glad you're able to hop on with us and try not to keep
- 22:28you too long. It's Thursday night.
- 22:29We know you got a lot to do. So we really appreciate you
- 22:32joining us. Appreciate your having for here.
- 22:35Awesome. Well, let's, let's let's start
- 22:37right here because we see the pictures.
- 22:39We see the videos from the winter workout.
- 22:42How's the body feeling about a month into the offseason
- 22:45strength and conditioning program?
- 22:49So far, it's been it's been pretty good on the offseason
- 22:52week. We went home for the December
- 22:55break out of like a plan to like, lose a little bit of
- 22:58weight without start feeling good.
- 23:01I'd be ready to run because I know we come back and all
- 23:04running right into it. I'm not a good way.
- 23:07I'm at a good strength right now.
- 23:08I'm like building. So I feel ya.
- 23:10It's been good. Do something here.
- 23:13That's also and I know that I know coach prior kind of
- 23:15preaches that that competition in the, in those strength, and
- 23:19conditioning drills. How's that going for you so far?
- 23:22I've been good. Yeah, I love coach prize.
- 23:25I love the competition aspect. He brings like everything, you
- 23:29know, practice, no hunger, drills.
- 23:33Even workouts. Like at the end of every hunger
- 23:36drill. We do like three different
- 23:38versions of competition, whether it be tire pool, Pull a team, a
- 23:44team one is the tug of war and then they have the horse and
- 23:49Chariot where they put like 500 pounds on a sled put it on your
- 23:53back and we just have to pull it.
- 23:55Yeah, there's a lot. It's that be fun.
- 23:57It's a good way to like end the hunger drill and it off with a
- 24:00right. I got a right step but I mean,
- 24:03yeah, it's fun. It's definitely definitely good.
- 24:05Which of those three is your favorite Well the The Chariot
- 24:13one was introduced like last week and I've been uprooted I
- 24:17was the first one to do and I don't know, it's weird.
- 24:20It's like you're dragging it but like like you're on all fours,
- 24:24you can read and you have to make sure you're on the ground
- 24:27and like you're pulling it and the weights coming up.
- 24:29But like you have to, like it's hard to explain, they get to
- 24:32like balance how much rope You Pull and how far it goes?
- 24:36Because if you pull too hard at once all going to go forward and
- 24:39you're not going to, you're gonna have a lot of rope left
- 24:40that A sense. Yeah, yeah.
- 24:43So you get like almost pulling it, too, too fast.
- 24:46It's going to kind of dig in and like to come with you.
- 24:48Got you? Yeah, that's like probably the
- 24:51tire pull because that's like one-on-one, you know, you like,
- 24:54you're getting it out the mud, like, against another man.
- 24:56So I mean, probably Tire pool are y'all going against
- 24:58defensive players? When y'all do that?
- 25:00Or is it, is it ou Lai en mano a mano?
- 25:03Oh, he likes to mix it up. He puts, you know, he'd look
- 25:06like quarterback birth quarterback and like quarterback
- 25:08battle, but if usually 40 lines, whose University learn Nice.
- 25:12Very, very nice. Who's so since we're doing that,
- 25:15who's your favorite person to go up against an entire pool?
- 25:18Well last year they put me up against my brother.
- 25:22That was my favorite person because I mean you know it's
- 25:25just brother on brother like the most like pure competition even
- 25:28from like your kid that was kind of my favorite one and it
- 25:31definitely takes you back probably he's like yeah I've
- 25:34been doing this my whole life like exactly.
- 25:39All right, so let's let's put it this way.
- 25:42This offseason into spring. What's one part of your game
- 25:46that you're trying to focus on? I don't know if this is part of
- 25:50the game but I never really liked my leadership.
- 25:54I want to like become the like the leader of the old line
- 25:57leader of the Hogs, you know, embody that leadership like
- 26:01mine. So I think last year we had
- 26:03great leaders like soil. Listen, obviously they are going
- 26:08to be on a fellow. So I mean, I'm the next up, me
- 26:10and Parker. So I mean just being a leader
- 26:12being vocal though. Being the head of the group is
- 26:16basically what I'm trying to get better and we love hearing that
- 26:20because back last month we did an episode called alpha dogs and
- 26:24we talked about the o-line and we talked about losing about
- 26:28losing salicin, and I'm going to be straight up Brian.
- 26:32Brought your name up. He said, I think Kane can take.
- 26:35Stuff. And and I love hearing that
- 26:38that's be drive for because as fans of this football team, we
- 26:42know how good you played last year and it's great to see that
- 26:45you're ready to step into that role.
- 26:48And I know the fans out there going to be glad to hear it as
- 26:51well. You, you came to Blacksburg by
- 26:55way of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania who was recruiting, you the
- 26:59hardest when you were a prospect and what were the factors that
- 27:03kind of LED you to pick? Virginia Tech.
- 27:07Um, well, my recruiting was really quiet for the most part.
- 27:12I mean, I only had 2 FPS offers with Bowling Green and Virginia
- 27:17Tech and then the rest were, I think they got 5 STS.
- 27:21I don't remember which ones they were.
- 27:21Riding Monmouth Robert Morris, some other ones, but definitely
- 27:26bullying green. They, they recruited me for like
- 27:28a whole year. Like sent me letters called me.
- 27:33Every day. Saw me in school every day.
- 27:35Day. So yeah, they recruited me hard
- 27:38but now I was 12 like, when I went at came in to come, see me.
- 27:42That was like, I want to go to Tech like that, was out of my
- 27:45mind. So I went to, I went to like
- 27:47three camps, I still didn't get an offer, I was like, maybe,
- 27:51maybe it was not right. And the Sunday before, the last
- 27:55signing day, I got a call from the old line coach place, and I
- 28:01mean, they offered me, I went the official on edge committed.
- 28:05Nice. Very nice to see and let's talk
- 28:08about that a little bit. So you committed and then you
- 28:10kind of burst on to the scene in 2021 with the big year after
- 28:14being in the 2D during the covid year.
- 28:15You turn that into 13 starts freshman All-American, second
- 28:20team selection by the athletic. What do you think?
- 28:23Played the biggest role in your early success in Blacksburg?
- 28:28I definitely hundred percent say Brock Hoffman.
- 28:31I mean from the first moment I stepped foot on that campus.
- 28:35Like you took me under his wing. Literally taught me almost
- 28:39everything I know up to this time.
- 28:42I mean he was like the like the leader for me when I was young
- 28:45like even my first year like it wasn't.
- 28:47He's a senior, I'm a freshman I could talk to me.
- 28:49Like it was he saw like my potential and he was like, I'm
- 28:53gonna like he kind of said that like me and him were kind of the
- 28:56same. In some aspects of our game,
- 28:59like, do aggressiveness, the like, grabbing people and
- 29:02finishing up. So he kind of took me under his
- 29:04wing from early standpoint and taught me stuff that he wasn't
- 29:08doing other people. I mean I feel like that was one
- 29:10of the big things for me at a young age about a young time.
- 29:14I'm coming in here and that has to make you feel good because
- 29:18Brock you know for those couple years he was here he was the
- 29:20leader of that old line and now he's obviously I mean finding
- 29:23success staying you know with Cleveland for a while and then
- 29:26being on dialysis Master. I love hearing that though.
- 29:30And have you kind of taken that role?
- 29:32Have you other than your brother?
- 29:34Obviously, I'll have you taken any of the young guys now, that
- 29:37because like you said, you're kind of your kind of the older
- 29:39guy in that room now. Yeah, I mean, I'm trying my, I'm
- 29:43like I'm trying to, like, learn how to be that lead to learn how
- 29:46to be the guy that like shows the other guys, the way to go.
- 29:51Yeah, I say I'm sure. Yeah, I'm trying.
- 29:53That's that's why I'm trying, I'm trying, I'm trying to learn
- 29:55how to do it. I should say.
- 29:57Nothing in that. Absolutely.
- 29:59Absolutely. You know let's talk let's keep
- 30:02talking about the offensive line a little bit here.
- 30:04We know that there was some up and downs last season but the
- 30:07ship kind of steadied out towards the end of the season.
- 30:11Were there any shifts in philosophy or Preparation?
- 30:14That kind of allowed the offensive line unit to jail in
- 30:17November? Um, I'd say coach Rudolph was
- 30:24the real reason for any gel and he really just, he puts people
- 30:28together and practice and he pretty much figures out who's
- 30:31the best on which side. So he thought Jesse was good
- 30:34with Silas and he thought I was going Parker because me and
- 30:36Parker we played last year. I think we started 66 out of the
- 30:4212 or 13 game and we I mean I feel like we measure pretty
- 30:45good, so he wanted to keep us together and so I was already
- 30:48had the left path. Sprouts.
- 30:49I mean like that was one of the driving forces in the gentleman
- 30:55is is he looking at any sort of position changes or anything
- 31:01like that across the guys that are returning this year or kind
- 31:04of cross training folks in different positions?
- 31:07Yeah. So I've adopted the center Rule
- 31:11and me and like me and Braylon I've basically been rotating but
- 31:15I'm trying to like, pick up and be the, like, the center, From
- 31:19like for this year. So I'm trying to, I've never
- 31:23been like a center, I'm never like Snap.
- 31:25So I mean I've been practicing since the end of the season.
- 31:29So yeah, I know. I've definitely gotten better
- 31:32at, I know, like, all the technical stuff.
- 31:34So, basically, just trying to figure out like, how to get
- 31:38better at that position because I know I've been a guard, I was
- 31:41a tackle in high school like I believe.
- 31:43But yeah, kind of like yeah. And it kind of slowly moving
- 31:49Moving down the line, right? Get moving down the line.
- 31:52Exact, man you're gonna have like everything on your resume
- 31:54by the time. It's, you know you know maybe
- 31:57even next year at this time, going into the going into the
- 32:00draft, like I played center, I played guard, I played left, I
- 32:03played right, I'll pay tackle, I can do anything.
- 32:05You want that good that you do? You have had two coaches since
- 32:11being here, you know, coach coach, Vance, Vice.
- 32:15And now one year under coach Rudolph, what's the one thing?
- 32:19You learn from each of those gentlemen, that has helped you
- 32:22become a better player. I definitely say my career.
- 32:29I think it was a blessing that I had code advice in my first two
- 32:33years because he taught me like grittiness, like he taught me
- 32:37like, I don't know, like, his mentality was like killed.
- 32:42Like he taught me how to be like, a warrior like young age.
- 32:46Doesn't matter. Like you just put your head down
- 32:48and work. It wasn't.
- 32:50It wasn't much technique to it, but you were hitting people
- 32:53every day with your head. So and then Coach Rudi comes in
- 32:58and he's all technique. So I mean I'm learning all the
- 33:02hand, placement feet placement like everything.
- 33:07I need to know to build me into the complete.
- 33:09Lineman that makes sense. But now say this could.
- 33:11Yeah so I mean you talked about being a leader but you also play
- 33:16along alongside your brother there he was he got a lot of run
- 33:21last year at left guard. What's it Like having your
- 33:25little brother on the team. Just being able to play beside
- 33:32him. I know, is that something that
- 33:34you have kind of been experiencing for a while and
- 33:36it's just kind of a natural progression or is it something
- 33:39that that takes getting used to? Well, I mean when he started
- 33:43getting recruited, he's not getting some big offers like,
- 33:46you know, bigger than mine obviously.
- 33:48Yeah. Like pit and you know, West
- 33:50Virginia is. I was like, I don't know.
- 33:52But I was basically like you need to come here.
- 33:54Like you need to like be a part of this because it's like we're
- 33:56building something. But yeah, it's an awesome just
- 34:00like high school. There's a chemistry there.
- 34:03We're basically like the same person to me.
- 34:06We have like the same characteristics.
- 34:08Like the same like everything. Like what?
- 34:11Laughs, that was the same thing. Like I feel like our
- 34:14aggressiveness is the same thing.
- 34:15Like, I don't know. I feel like we're just the same
- 34:16person so it's just easy to like be next to him because iron oh
- 34:20he's like he's going to do. Man, I love hearing
- 34:24aggressiveness and emptiness because I can remember bronze
- 34:27the tape near here. I can't look at football team,
- 34:29but I don't have that skill Braun does and I can remember
- 34:33him. Remember the first time you
- 34:34looked at Caden stay because that was the like, one of our
- 34:37first episodes like nasty trials, people doesn't stop
- 34:42until literally two seconds after the whistle.
- 34:45And then when we recruited Braylon it was just you said it
- 34:48was the same way. Like so when I hear it's like
- 34:50you're the same person on the football field.
- 34:51Y'all definitely. ER, but playstyle definitely
- 34:54very similar. So, I mean, I definitely tell
- 34:56you came from the same spot as last year.
- 35:03Y'all are on the field at the same time.
- 35:04And I know you've done that your whole life, but when there's,
- 35:08you know, a bust a big run and you see it on tape.
- 35:11And I know, I know that's technical.
- 35:12That's work for y'all. But is there like a spot where
- 35:15it's like, oh, look at us. Look at the, he got the combo,
- 35:18he got up field. I held the guy turned light.
- 35:20What's that feel knowing That's Blood on the other side, a
- 35:24little, it's definitely cool. I mean, Sunday, is the day that
- 35:28we come in and I'll watch like, like the tape together as
- 35:33offensive line. It's definitely cool to like see
- 35:35him like progress because he started here as a d lineman in
- 35:40the sun. Yeah.
- 35:41They made him in or in the spring and then they made him
- 35:43into a whole Amin. They brought him to the old one
- 35:47for the summer. The spring summer.
- 35:49Yeah. And not see how much he's grown.
- 35:53Up to this point is this like that's the best thing for me
- 35:55like when he first got to wanna, I mean I know he was gonna be
- 35:59ready to block like you know, like norell Pollard or Rio.
- 36:04But I mean he was ready. I mean I don't know.
- 36:07I feel like that's the best thing just seeing this growth
- 36:08and see how mature he's become and even like being like a Lily
- 36:13Young leader. So I mean, I feel like Samson
- 36:16and it's awesome. I got.
- 36:18Yeah, because he would have, you would have picked it up pretty
- 36:19quick because, you know, you talk about eating those There's
- 36:23not a ton of of time to kind of get that learning like spring is
- 36:27when a lot of that install happens when a lot of the kind
- 36:29of the building blocks are there and he was a youth on defensive
- 36:32line that whole time. So it's awesome.
- 36:34Seeing how quick he was able to pick that up and be a
- 36:36contributor his first year on offensive line for the Hokies.
- 36:39That's awesome. Now, I have a question for you.
- 36:42Did you were you and Coach Rudi? Gudde, I'll see you saying.
- 36:45Listen, you got to get him over here.
- 36:47You gotta give me. I mean, I've seen some who spit
- 36:51on me. Was that bad deal?
- 36:53I'm and I just felt like we needed him at o-line more than
- 36:56we need him at be like that makes sense and I knew that he
- 36:59could like a potential starter or even something we could plug
- 37:04in and play early. So I mean I feel like that it
- 37:06was just better for him and for the team.
- 37:10Yep, makes your team better better opportunity for him to
- 37:13get on the field quick. So it's always a good thing.
- 37:18Let's let's say as this. So you know, we talked about the
- 37:20offensive line room, a lot already.
- 37:21So who's the funniest person in the offensive line room right
- 37:24now? Who funniest person offensive
- 37:28wine room? I mean I'm probably going to
- 37:31besides Braylon because that's probably won't be dessert.
- 37:33Okay. Yeah, besides your brother.
- 37:35Yeah. And you can vote yourself if you
- 37:41want to. I'll probably say Xavier Chapel,
- 37:46I mean, it's a different humor because he doesn't, he doesn't
- 37:50talk that much. So, I mean, you have to get to
- 37:52know him for him to talk to you. But once he opens up, he's
- 37:55probably funniest Obama known that our o-line is, he like
- 37:58dropping the one-liners, like, kind of in the background just
- 38:00like, yeah, Larry's one laundry. Yeah.
- 38:07This wasn't, this is not on the run down list, but I have to ask
- 38:11this, I told Brown, I was the last this earlier today, all the
- 38:14offensive, lineman goes to an all-you-can-eat buffet at the
- 38:19end, who has the plates stacked, the highest It's the most who
- 38:29eats the most on the offensive line.
- 38:33I'm gonna have to go with either Jack hollifield.
- 38:39There we go. He gained so much weight so
- 38:42quickly. Yeah, yeah.
- 38:50Or ask because he's massive. So I mean he has to eat a lot.
- 38:54So it's either because how big he is eggs or because Jacqueline
- 38:58from what like a 250 tight end to infection, yeah, Jack put in
- 39:05like 45 pounds since he got to Blacksburg and I think he had
- 39:07put on ten or fifteen between when he committed and when he
- 39:11got on campus, so he's like plus 60 since he signed, that's
- 39:17pretty cool. That's pretty cool.
- 39:19Let's let's ask this next so so we'll keep it in the Lyman room.
- 39:24What's the go to competitive game in the Players Lounge?
- 39:27Amongst the 0 line? 0 has to be Injustice on the PS
- 39:325. All right, so when we do Hunger
- 39:36drills, we come in at 5:00 is when they start and they usually
- 39:41end around like 8 and then we have to work out groups, one at
- 39:478 and then want to 10. So we have that whole entire
- 39:50time until 10:00 to just do whatever and we just go all the
- 39:55way up to the players on just play, Injustice, or like play a.
- 39:58And so I mean either Injustice or MBA is definitely the game
- 40:01that we play. All right, here's the.
- 40:03Who's the the character of choice for you and Injustice?
- 40:07I'm about to go with Scarecrow, he got the, he got the the thing
- 40:11with the chain on it. So he goes far so I would have
- 40:14to go Documented scarecrow is the Injustice character for
- 40:19Kayden more, right? So it's like this is
- 40:23long-standing tradition for? I think just about every
- 40:25offensive lineman, or any player we've ever interviewed here.
- 40:29We know that basketball is one of those big kind of offseason
- 40:33stay in shape stay competitive together.
- 40:36Who's the best Hooper in the offensive line room.
- 40:42Last year, I would have, said Silas, because he is like
- 40:46athletic. Like, I never seen a big man
- 40:48dunk, like him, but on the old line, I'd probably like nobody
- 40:53because I've seen them all play, and they're all really bad.
- 40:56So, yeah, yeah. I see some clips of Xavier
- 41:03dunking. Duncan, pretty good.
- 41:05I don't know if he's got a got any sort of other games?
- 41:08Is he's a playmaker. Or he can do anything else.
- 41:11He can definitely throw it down a little bit.
- 41:14Yeah, he said he could dunk. I'm not till I told him to go up
- 41:16and dunk by me his knee. Sorry, I don't know.
- 41:18I don't know if he said, not right now, not right now, I'll
- 41:22show off later. What is your go-to spot in
- 41:34Blacksburg? Go to Blacksburg, got to be
- 41:37Chipotle. Probably probably like three or
- 41:42four times a week. I have to love the boat with the
- 41:45vinaigrette sauce. What's the order?
- 41:47What's the order? I do a bowl?
- 41:51You want the whole order? Just like what?
- 41:52I get just just next to this, the highlights just to highlight
- 41:55oh and I get a side tortilla and I put the half of it in a
- 42:00tortilla and then I eat that and I need to pull things they want
- 42:05and basically That's the move right there.
- 42:08That's always the mood talk to you on.
- 42:09The side is always the move, get the bolt or t on the side.
- 42:12They said, they'd let you put the tortilla on the side.
- 42:15And yeah, order the bowl, get a tortilla, it's like 50 Cent or
- 42:18something like seven, tortilla on the side.
- 42:20You can make your own burrito, you make your own burrito, and
- 42:22then you eat the bowl after Jack.
- 42:24Thank you. Thank you.
- 42:25Find out talking to Tech football players.
- 42:28Okay, man. Listen, best of luck getting
- 42:31through the west of winter workouts.
- 42:32Best of luck in the spring and the fall.
- 42:34If we don't speak to you before then, We really appreciate you
- 42:37joining us here tonight. Thank you so much for having me.
- 42:40I really appreciate you guys having me and I had a definite
- 42:42had a great time. Appreciate you saying, you have
- 42:45a good one. You're shitting me.
- 42:50And we're back. Well, that was Caden more.
- 42:54He joined us last Thursday, we got to chop it up with him for a
- 42:59little while there. I hope, everyone enjoyed that,
- 43:01any of you. So, we're going to kind of,
- 43:02we're gonna break things down a little bit here, a little bit.
- 43:05First of all, Brian, you didn't tell me, you'd have Mike's, I'm
- 43:08over here talking about a off. And you've got to, um, use only
- 43:11cat that I was. I was getting there.
- 43:16Yeah. Let's let's chat a few things.
- 43:19Obviously, some interesting pieces brought up that No about.
- 43:23But I want to talk about this first and from both of y'all who
- 43:26have played, you know, High School, collegiate ball and I'll
- 43:30pitch to Brian first because he was the offensive lineman tally.
- 43:33I'm not not, not throw any other bus, but I'm good with it.
- 43:37What he mentioned the difference in the ol coaches.
- 43:39When he talked about Vance, Vice, really being a lot of
- 43:41mentality driven versus Rudolph being a technique.
- 43:46Are you shocked Brian that there were issues at that position
- 43:50last year? I'm not really shocked.
- 43:53So what it's telling me is that there was a lot of things when
- 43:57Rudolph got in there and he was like, all right, we got to kind
- 44:00of reset the reset Bud. Get back to square one.
- 44:03Little bit to build out the technique because it sounds
- 44:06like, from from Rudolph's perspective, he's going to be,
- 44:10he's going to give you the the building blocks and then that's
- 44:13when the mentality comes into play.
- 44:15Once you got all the building blocks in place, whereas, in
- 44:19sounds like, vices mentality was go out there and be it.
- 44:22Dog. And as long as you know the play
- 44:25and you're going full speed will work everything else out in the
- 44:29wash that's going to be get worked out the film room or
- 44:32whatever. So it sounds like there wasn't a
- 44:34whole lot of or at least, as much kind of the building block
- 44:39techniques, you teenager. He talked about hand placement
- 44:41steps, things like that. And, you know, a lot of that you
- 44:45learn in high school, but there's, you know, when you're
- 44:48Translating that into a new system, Definitely need to kind
- 44:53of work on those those Foundation techniques to really
- 44:57elevate your craft. So I think a lot of that was Joe
- 45:03kind of turning things around and saying, all right, we got to
- 45:06get back to technique but then some of the issues come in, when
- 45:11your brain, you're thinking too much and you're not just kind of
- 45:15getting where you need to go and you saw it more with some
- 45:18players and others. I think, you know we talked
- 45:20about it a lot here at Last year, Watching game tape and
- 45:23things like that. Looks like people are thinking
- 45:26too much, we talked about how that led to a lot of the
- 45:29offsides we talked about how that led to some Miss
- 45:32assignments and things like that.
- 45:33It's like sometimes when when your brain is doing a little too
- 45:38much your feet, don't do what they need to do.
- 45:46Tell me what you got. I mean you mentioned a little
- 45:48earlier day to us about you play tight in online and you here
- 45:52Brian you know Rudolph techniques versus dog and you
- 45:56are like, well, when you're on the line there's everything
- 45:59there's a million things going on.
- 46:00I see this a lot. That's a lot going on that line,
- 46:04man. Anybody who's ever been in the
- 46:06trenches and kind of, you know, live that live that life, you
- 46:13got a million things going on, you got What about calling
- 46:16plays? You got your Center column
- 46:19plays, you got their linebacker, moving their line, you got Lyman
- 46:24that are telling each other, where to twist and where to go,
- 46:27and then you got people to just being assholes, just talking to
- 46:30you from the other side. So if you haven't been in that
- 46:34world, you know, it's easy to say, well, how do they jump
- 46:38offsides? But you haven't been down in
- 46:40there. You don't catch all of that
- 46:41stuff on TV. What you have a million people
- 46:45talking And a million people moving.
- 46:50And like Brian said, sometimes it's just thinking too much
- 46:54because you know what you're supposed to do or you think you
- 46:57know what you're supposed to do and something comes in and get
- 47:00you off of that or somebody comes in and say something to
- 47:04you that you're just ready to punch, you know?
- 47:08So it's a lot to goes on on that line and I think we've seen it a
- 47:11lot of times what we had and I don't even want to use the word
- 47:14young players, but we may have had any experience players at
- 47:18certain places that caused some of the extra movements and
- 47:24things that we had, especially if you hadn't had a coach to
- 47:29tell you, you got to your first step has to, this hand has to
- 47:34move with your first step, or when you take this step, you
- 47:38have to punch this way. You just have some coaches.
- 47:41Just say, hey, just go hit somebody.
- 47:43You know, but at the next level I can't remember exactly which
- 47:47offensive lineman it was. And I may have dreamed it, but I
- 47:50think somebody did an interview and they talked and they said,
- 47:53when they went to the league they had a they had to learn how
- 47:58to play like they had to learn how to be office alignment.
- 48:01Can't remember who it was, but I need to do some research and
- 48:04figure it out, but not talking bad about Vice.
- 48:07I think he has some good stuff but I don't think he was a very
- 48:10technical coach, you know, you gotta listen.
- 48:12Listen. The Cadence interview.
- 48:14He he pretty much told people just go hit so and when you're
- 48:20when you're running a lot more that zone to I mean a lot of
- 48:22that's already taught in high school so when you're a very
- 48:25Zone heavy scheme you know a lot of that probably came into play
- 48:31with why wasn't as tactical? He's like all right well they
- 48:34these guys are coming in, I recruited them from Zone systems
- 48:38that they played in high school they more or less know
- 48:41technique-wise what they need to do.
- 48:43I need to get them from a mentality standpoint to a level
- 48:47where they can play against Power, five players and that was
- 48:51probably how he approached it and it sounds like Joe Rudolph
- 48:54has a different perspective, especially because we are
- 48:57bringing in more Gap schemes and more complex blocking schemes
- 49:02that that we're looking at a front.
- 49:04Now, you got to have technique if you're going to do that.
- 49:07That's tough. Yeah, so just take me, just
- 49:10hearing you talk about it. It kind of makes sense that me.
- 49:13We did potentially see a regression last year because
- 49:16it's going out there from hey, just go hit somebody to, Hey
- 49:19listen, you've got to do the right steps.
- 49:21Because if we want to be the most efficient unit, we've got
- 49:24to do the right little right stuff, like y'all both said,
- 49:27taking the right steps, putting them hand placement, right?
- 49:30And when you go from one mentality of wide open and play
- 49:34to another mentality of technical Robbie, put it up
- 49:38again. Technical Focus will slow the
- 49:40aggression at times. It's, that's the truth and
- 49:42that's truthful. Just Any line of work that you
- 49:46put yourself into and even more, so talked about moving bodies
- 49:49and pushing people. All right, let's let's go here.
- 49:52Next time or let you leave this tally.
- 49:54He just we discussed in the interview with him about how he
- 49:57is trying to become a leader in that room.
- 49:59That's a big step. He's a young player, but he's a
- 50:03three-year starter now, right? Brian was ample numerous times
- 50:09last year, he was probably the most consistent got, he wasn't
- 50:12the most dominant. The time but you didn't see him
- 50:14get killed if he did. It was just a handful of times
- 50:18during the year, you think he can become that Alpha?
- 50:23Yeah, of course. I mean it comes down to, it's
- 50:27not all about experience but it is a little about experience.
- 50:31You know, when we go back to talking about just knowing what
- 50:35to do in certain positions or even, he's been there for three
- 50:40years. He's been, you know, a couple of
- 50:43days, DC schools a couple of times and he knows how those
- 50:46environments are. So he's able to pass that along
- 50:49to the other guys on the team, and he's played a couple of
- 50:53different positions. You know, he's, he's practice
- 50:56and moved and done a couple of different things on the line.
- 51:00So just the fact that he's done that.
- 51:04Well, he'll help him become a leader.
- 51:06He seems like a smart kid to like offensive lineman.
- 51:11I mean, I know maybe on the old shows and stuff.
- 51:13Tough. When they talk about somebody
- 51:14being a dumb jock, maybe have a brute to just do.
- 51:18I don't know what to do. You don't see very many offense
- 51:20of lineman that just dumb. You know.
- 51:22Like offensive linemen used are pretty smart guys.
- 51:25So they that I think that from talking to him and seeing him
- 51:32play, I think he can. I think he can take that next
- 51:34step to become that leader, but it all comes down to, you have
- 51:37different leaders, but it all comes down to what you do on
- 51:40that field to this. Get you to the leadership role
- 51:46by? Yeah, I agree there and I think
- 51:49the big thing until he pointed to it a little bit but the big
- 51:52thing is is that he has a three-year starter at this
- 51:55point, so when defense or showing a look or they're
- 51:58showing a blitz or they're shifting, there's probably not a
- 52:02whole lot of things that they're doing in a game that he hasn't
- 52:05seen. So he can translate that to
- 52:09other guys that may have less experience.
- 52:12So that's the big thing for me. Me and also again with with that
- 52:16experience comes confidence and with confidence, come the
- 52:19ability for others to look to you to gain confidence, right?
- 52:24So if he can step into that role, even if it's just by
- 52:26example but if he's moving to Center, he's going to have to
- 52:29have some of that local leadership as well.
- 52:31So he's going to beat need to be making the calls, she's going to
- 52:33be baking the shift so there's going to be a lot of things
- 52:36where he's going to have to be vocal but there's going to also
- 52:39be areas where he's going to need to lead by example as well,
- 52:41right? Rommel for the back to you.
- 52:43Quit because when he dropped that on us, when we were sitting
- 52:46there he's like yeah I've been getting ready to roll over and
- 52:49been practicing centers. Just like dude you were an
- 52:52All-American Right Guard like freshman All-American, Right
- 52:56Guard and they want you to go play center.
- 53:00I mean, let me, let me get both y'all thoughts on that because
- 53:03it's just like, it makes me feel better because we were worried
- 53:07about Cinderella who can play. If he can snap the ball, we know
- 53:11that man can play offensive line.
- 53:13We know that, but that's a, that's a big step.
- 53:17But I mean we all think now goes to the same thing as you saying,
- 53:23him being a leader, you know, your Center is your leader,
- 53:28nothing happens until the center snaps the ball.
- 53:31You know, the center is making a lot of calls there in the middle
- 53:34so I mean if he stepping up to be the alpha dog, to be the
- 53:38leader. I mean centers a good place to
- 53:41start it, you know. He's getting everybody in line.
- 53:44He's been there for a while and like you said, it just comes
- 53:48down to the exchange. If he can snap the ball, we know
- 53:51it can play offensive line. It just comes down to, you know,
- 53:55how those snaps look last year. Sometimes Johnny was, he was
- 53:59skipping skipping the rock back there, you know what I mean?
- 54:02So we got to be able to get the ball to the quarterback.
- 54:07Yeah. Got it.
- 54:07Got to be able to snap the ball, but as you said, Sally, I mean,
- 54:10by default and I've said this to Curtis many times.
- 54:13By default your Sinners going to have to have some sort of
- 54:16leadership role on the offensive line, even if he's not the alpha
- 54:20he's got to have some sort of leadership because when he barks
- 54:22you got to listen. So that's good that he's sliding
- 54:27to that role because now he can kind of approach it from being
- 54:30the guy and also the guy that you're listening to from a check
- 54:33and call standpoint, I think this is good overall we had
- 54:38talked about, you know, either him or just a handsome being
- 54:42potentially the The guys that might slide into that role since
- 54:45we didn't see any sort of movement of getting a starting
- 54:49caliber Center in the transfer portal at least in the first
- 54:52wave there. So we kind of we kind of figured
- 54:56it was going to be one of those two just because that gives you
- 54:58at least year your opportunity to put your five best on the
- 55:01field. But again, if you had to pick
- 55:04one, I think, Cadence probably the better choice, just because
- 55:07he is the guy that I think folks are going to look to from that
- 55:10leadership role to begin with. So it's better to kind of have
- 55:12that As your your trigger man there in the middle and that's
- 55:16so much about the things that we don't see behind the scenes, who
- 55:19knows? They might have been asking him
- 55:20to try snapping the ball during practice last year, right?
- 55:24Like hey go take 10 reps snapping the ball.
- 55:26We don't get to see that. So and we see the portal.
- 55:29Why are we taking a center while we taken somebody that can
- 55:31really help this offense in line?
- 55:33When in reality, it might be he's been working on it and
- 55:37we've got Johnny, we know Johnny can play center.
- 55:39We're gonna let came focus on guard but he's going to work.
- 55:42He's at work at snapping, he's a Some of those techniques that we
- 55:45need to do during our practice sessions because we heard what
- 55:50several times price say. Hey we wouldn't let some of the
- 55:53young guys go out there and fully scrimmage.
- 55:55Who knows maybe came ordering some of those scrimmages Kane's
- 55:58going to be Center. He's in Black too and snap the
- 56:00ball to guys. We don't know that any things
- 56:02behind the scenes, we can't see, right?
- 56:05But then we see things like this.
- 56:07And I mean for us like I love, he said it to us, he wasn't
- 56:12afraid. And that's another thing I love
- 56:14about Brent pry. Players aren't afraid to have
- 56:16conversations with other individuals who had a lie?
- 56:20Yeah. And the thing is, like, it
- 56:22happens more than people see, it's not a sexy position, the
- 56:26lion guard Center is not a sexy position.
- 56:30People don't pay attention to it, as much as they pay
- 56:33attention to the quarterback a wide receiver, or a running
- 56:35back, but you have a lot of linemen that move around and
- 56:39play different positions. I mean, of course I'm a Alabama.
- 56:43Not Alabama fan but I'm Alabama guy.
- 56:46So I watch them battle member football Alabama had think it
- 56:49was maybe like 2010 or 11. Don't quote me on that.
- 56:55We can do some research and find out for sure.
- 56:57But they had Barrett Jones I think was the offensive lineman
- 57:02there. He won two different Awards to
- 57:04be the best. He was like the best tackle,
- 57:07then the best center him. Like the year, they won the
- 57:09championship and whatever year it was maybe like 2012 or
- 57:12something. And and they usually play all
- 57:15those positions and Barrett Jones and also he he had like a
- 57:214.0 while doing all this. Like I said offensive lineman
- 57:25are very heady. And if they are asking you to
- 57:28play a couple of different positions, I'm sure if we looked
- 57:30up Caden Moore's grades, he's probably one of the best on the
- 57:35team, probably, one of the best on the team as far as grades go
- 57:38because it's not easy to be down on the line and learn all those
- 57:41positions. So, all right, Do you know how
- 57:44to jump off of this too? Because I just put something on
- 57:47there for that. Robbie talked about, you have it
- 57:50all. All of his guys practice
- 57:51Staffing at some points of their potentially, in an emergency
- 57:54situation, ready to roll and tally can speak to this as well.
- 57:58But you know, one of the things that we always did, you know, we
- 58:02were expected to be at the practice field 15 minutes before
- 58:05the start of practice because offensive lineman were snapping
- 58:09the ball to any and all people, that handle the ball.
- 58:13From a quarterback or perspective.
- 58:14So you know you had guys that you know you had your two or
- 58:17three guys that were in the 3D snap to the quarterback.
- 58:20So then other guys will take turns in that same rotation and
- 58:23work on snapping for emergency situations because there are a
- 58:27lot of times you know as much as you don't want to do it.
- 58:30You know if you get a couple guys go down you don't
- 58:33necessarily want your third-string Center out there.
- 58:35You might want to, you know, slide slide, slide of guard over
- 58:38in there and work another. Another car into the rotation
- 58:41from that from that too deep. So Having guys that can snap,
- 58:45that aren't necessarily, you know, got the see next to their
- 58:49name in the in the program. That's not never a bad idea.
- 58:53So if this is something that he's probably worked on to some
- 58:55degree you know before this discussion happened at the end
- 58:59of the season. Absolutely.
- 59:01Alright. Well real quick y'all.
- 59:05Braun Telly last time. So you get to lead it this time
- 59:08who's your right now, as we sit, who's your five on the line, you
- 59:14don't have to put where they're going to be chaplain.
- 59:16Hanson more. More Garrett.
- 59:19I always, I know, you can go Johnny, don't you kick Parker?
- 59:23He kick Parker out. Parker made him mad last year.
- 59:26What about you Talan? I got a I mean, I hate to just
- 59:28say the exact same that he said, I would probably put Clemens in
- 59:32now seeing him on a couple of little List this year, working
- 59:36out in a couple of things. So because he has some
- 59:38experience I give him a little bit of edge over chaplain or
- 59:43Garrett, not sure which one just yet.
- 59:46But I feel like they're going to have him start in there.
- 59:50How long he's in there? I don't know, but I feel like
- 59:53he's gonna be in there somewhere.
- 59:54The more Brothers definitely gone.
- 59:57I think they got some good stuff coming for us this year.
- 59:59Yeah, I'm with Tally, I think clemont's right now over again
- 1:00:02because of the experience and just Those of those last few
- 1:00:05games, you said Prime set it on here Clements hasn't looked as
- 1:00:10bad as he did earlier in the season, like something clicked,
- 1:00:13with Joe teaching technique. So, I'm with Talia because that
- 1:00:16was, that was my marked. Praise at the end of it.
- 1:00:18Was he Market? He said, he's not standing out
- 1:00:21as bad anymore and right now. So, all right, tally, we going,
- 1:00:26we're going. So we send this video to tally
- 1:00:29because he wasn't able to join us in almost the first thing out
- 1:00:33into a lie. The text was not about the
- 1:00:36center or the coaching Styles. Go ahead tally.
- 1:00:40He got a rant Holtz. Hey what is it?
- 1:00:44Who eats that shit? I don't understand when we.
- 1:00:50All right so where I work is on like a major highway or major
- 1:00:57road here. Yeah and you can get pretty much
- 1:00:59anything within 10 minutes like go this way you get Popeyes go.
- 1:01:03That way you get Donald's. Go that way.
- 1:01:04You get Texas Roadhouse, go that way.
- 1:01:06You get Longhorns. There's a Chipotle somewhere in
- 1:01:10that. Nobody ever says, hey, let's go
- 1:01:12get your boat. If everybody, you know why?
- 1:01:15Because it's horrible, it's horrible fate that one time in
- 1:01:19my life and it came out of both ends and I was done.
- 1:01:24I want to never touch it again but besides that it just didn't
- 1:01:28taste good like it. I don't know, man.
- 1:01:31I want to maybe I need to give it a try in a Another state or
- 1:01:34another place. But I was saying I was saying
- 1:01:40and I was done after the tally ho.
- 1:02:32Real quick. Let's talk about tech pulse to
- 1:02:34Miami tonight. 7670 and I'm probably more irritated.
- 1:02:38But anything is because that we were sitting here before we got
- 1:02:41on what I tell you, you and Robbie going to get along today.
- 1:02:45All me, so we fought to Miami. We shoot better from the field
- 1:02:51than them. We shoot better from three
- 1:02:52points in them. They do get us in free throws,
- 1:02:56but, you know, let's just not just this game, they beat UVA,
- 1:03:01we'd beat BC. Or lose to BC beat Notre Dame,
- 1:03:05struggle with them bad team, lose Georgia Tech which just
- 1:03:09made Callie infuriated because he watched that game.
- 1:03:11We didn't enough meat number one team in the ACC and we hang with
- 1:03:15probably the best team in the ACC tonight.
- 1:03:18Can y'all make any sense of this team?
- 1:03:20No, no, no. It is so frustrating.
- 1:03:24You know, talking with so many people out there.
- 1:03:26It's just like it's Dougie had said it.
- 1:03:30The other week, this is the best good.
- 1:03:32This is the worst good team I've ever seen.
- 1:03:35Yep, it makes little to no snow and no sense Fury getting to
- 1:03:40watch because, you know, we look at it and relay.
- 1:03:43All right. Well, if this team could beat BC
- 1:03:47which they should, if this team can beat Georgia Tech course
- 1:03:50they should if this team could just win a road game here or
- 1:03:54there that's all you have to do that.
- 1:03:58Like those are three easy hurdles to clear but we we have
- 1:04:01not been able to clear them the meanwhile we get you know you
- 1:04:04Get a win. I get UVA.
- 1:04:06You're able to pull a win at Pitt.
- 1:04:07Like what? What's going on like, say
- 1:04:11Italian old many. So yeah, you got so many games
- 1:04:15and basketball that people don't like football.
- 1:04:18People pay attention to the losses and basketball is like
- 1:04:23you get a pass because you've got 30 fucking games and if
- 1:04:28you've played 30 different teams, you're going to beat a
- 1:04:30top 25 team and I have people arguing with me Saying because I
- 1:04:35don't I think Mike young is a is a great fit for Virginia Tech
- 1:04:40but at the same time it's like whenever we lose a game, we're
- 1:04:44not supposed to. I'm going to say it's his fault
- 1:04:47because I'm looking at the team and they're watching rebounds,
- 1:04:50bounce right beside them or we're throwing the ball to the
- 1:04:53other team. Like if the football team loses
- 1:04:57by one point, they're going at the coach every single time.
- 1:05:01Basketball team loses and it's like, well, they just they beat
- 1:05:06us today. I'm like, no it the effort was
- 1:05:09different today than it was. When we go against top talent,
- 1:05:13we bring our top game. When we go against
- 1:05:17middle-of-the-road teams, we come with middle-of-the-road
- 1:05:20effort, you know, Miami's a good basketball team.
- 1:05:23We lost by 16 points. Yeah so not saying that that
- 1:05:28doesn't hurt. Now in our Where We Are.
- 1:05:31Our. But if we had, one knows games
- 1:05:33of teams, we were supposed to be.
- 1:05:35And I'm using are quotations because every game is different.
- 1:05:38But if we don't win those games, against the Georgia Tech's, and
- 1:05:42the be seized, when one of their best players gets hurt, we the
- 1:05:47the Miami losses don't hurt you, you know, going into tournament
- 1:05:50play going into trying to get into the into the tournament but
- 1:05:56it's baseball season now. Yeah, I might as well quit
- 1:05:58talking basketball. And I believe the baseball team
- 1:06:02did win today, which we're going to hit on some of the next
- 1:06:05upcoming weeks. We will have Shelton on talk
- 1:06:07about that we're going to be paying attention to it.
- 1:06:09Obviously a couple other quick things to talk about Hoops wise,
- 1:06:13the women Shelton said it on this program couple weeks ago.
- 1:06:17This team can be in the lead 18 and I'm going to tell you.
- 1:06:20I've watched a couple games here and there.
- 1:06:22There's sometimes tough to find women for the first time at NC
- 1:06:26State against a ranked Tennessee State team.
- 1:06:28And then beating three ranked, they've won four straight.
- 1:06:31Teams against top 20 ranked teams this team like
- 1:06:35legitimately if this keeps going, there's your best shot to
- 1:06:39be watching basketball in the late.
- 1:06:41March or the ladies week, Italy and door and they went out there
- 1:06:44and just Steve it to FSU and do it wasn't, it wasn't even a
- 1:06:50contest. I mean, Duke Duke won the
- 1:06:54contest. At the end of one, they had a
- 1:06:58lead and it was just they kept. Had it, you know, Duke got a few
- 1:07:03few garbage, time things in the fourth quarter, to make it look
- 1:07:07a little closer than was but that won the game for three
- 1:07:09quarters. Yeah, can you brought in some
- 1:07:13good heat, but he brought in some good transfers, you know,
- 1:07:17this past year as well and some of the, some of the young ladies
- 1:07:21that he brought in were high contributors on the teams that
- 1:07:25they came from. It was power, 5 experience as
- 1:07:28well. And basketball is a little bit
- 1:07:31different. So I don't 100% pay attention to
- 1:07:34where people come from to where they're going.
- 1:07:37Because it takes one, man to be a, have a good basketball teams.
- 1:07:40True. You like, you can recruit one
- 1:07:43player and he can play basketball better than everybody
- 1:07:45else on the court and he can beat the other team by himself.
- 1:07:49I mean, it's a team sport, but if LeBron plays
- 1:07:53eighteen-year-old, LeBron goes to the Hokies right now.
- 1:07:57How many, how many times did that team lose?
- 1:08:00Not many very few, very few, not many two or three.
- 1:08:04We probably lost the, we probably lose the BC because we
- 1:08:07can't be sleeping. Takes one or two things like, in
- 1:08:12basketball is much different than any other sport because
- 1:08:16it's so individualized. But back to the Women's
- 1:08:20Basketball team, they already had a couple of good players
- 1:08:23like from last year. He'll enjoy Grand getting the
- 1:08:28kidney is awesome and then they bring in those transfers just to
- 1:08:32give that team dipped and they look good man.
- 1:08:35It looks it. Like you said, it looks like our
- 1:08:38best shot to watch so many for basketball.
- 1:08:42Late in the March, so I'll be excited to see.
- 1:08:44I mean, I'm going, I'm going to be cheering.
- 1:08:46Like, hell, did they go deep into the into the tournament?
- 1:08:51Hopefully, we don't get a matchup in the first round like
- 1:08:53we had last year somebody team shooting 60% from three.
- 1:08:56Yeah, well you listen there, there ain't there is only a
- 1:09:00handful of teams that can handle that barrage keeps you 60
- 1:09:03percent from three? Just about every team in the
- 1:09:06country is losing one last piece.
- 1:09:08Not who but wrestling. Since we've last been on here,
- 1:09:12crushing you trusting UNC crushing UVA getting the co
- 1:09:16regular season Champions. So hanging another Banner the
- 1:09:20ACC Championship is in a couple weeks and as much as to me like
- 1:09:26similar to basketball, like the rustling, oh it's an ACC
- 1:09:30Championship. This is being.
- 1:09:31It's like yeah but we're really like it's almost like when we
- 1:09:35are really good team like okay we're a really good team.
- 1:09:39What is this even matter? Like there's a five or six seven
- 1:09:43guys that are going to go to the Nationals, there's a bigger goal
- 1:09:46in mind for this much, right? Because didn't makka got hurt
- 1:09:50last year in the ACC tournament, right?
- 1:09:53Yeah. He got hurt.
- 1:09:54You know, Screw his change win a National Title.
- 1:09:57So I think it's awesome. That the team is that good.
- 1:10:02It's one of those interesting Sports to watch on TV and you
- 1:10:05know people saying watching it live.
- 1:10:07You get that hype. When you know The match is going
- 1:10:10on so I'm going to obviously will pay attention to who goes
- 1:10:14to Nationals talk about that. I may attempt to get my buddy
- 1:10:19David on here to talk with us 10 minutes, we might have to do a
- 1:10:22little recording session. He is a CPA, not the best time
- 1:10:26of year to ask that maintenance, so tax season.
- 1:10:32Yeah. So the wrestling the head
- 1:10:35wrestling coach got paid didn't? Yes, he did.
- 1:10:37He got hit. He got dibs on him at PK, get on
- 1:10:43him. Yeah.
- 1:10:44Hey you cheated wings and beers on Tony Rhodey.
- 1:10:49Yeah, always be on Tony. And, but Hey, listen your top
- 1:10:52ten program, guys went to Nationals.
- 1:10:55They want guys to go to it Olympics.
- 1:10:57You know what pay him because that's becoming a spectator
- 1:11:01sport. People are paying money to go
- 1:11:03watch those things. It's making, it's probably one
- 1:11:06of the sports that's close to paying for itself.
- 1:11:09The year because getting TV revenues from going to National
- 1:11:12Title, plus putting, you know, for 5,000 people in Castle like
- 1:11:17paying their, they're doing a good job with fundraising to.
- 1:11:20So yes, they are combined that. I mean, they're they're breaking
- 1:11:24even probably or pretty darn close to home right now.
- 1:11:28And once you have a non revenues Fort breaking even all the money
- 1:11:35that usually said to them stays with the football program.
- 1:11:38In an extra, you know, two three, four hundred thousand
- 1:11:40dollars, you can pay analysts you know, can pump the coaches,
- 1:11:45salaries up a little bit, I hear ya.
- 1:11:48All right, so before we going to be flipping back to football and
- 1:11:52get into some more topics tonight, but before that we are
- 1:11:55going to take a quick pause for a message from our digital
- 1:11:58Partners as we take a quick break.

- 1:12:19Now back to the episode. I so back to football talk and
- 1:12:24we're going to finally put a cap on the 24 class in a few weeks,
- 1:12:28we're going to bring mattei from 247 Sports to wrap it up in full
- 1:12:33and talk about the 24 class. But there was one more guy that
- 1:12:37committed. On Signing Day, the traditional
- 1:12:40sign and day and that was James jannetty.
- 1:12:44Six-foot-five 225-pound Edge. Originally from Durham, North
- 1:12:50Carolina. Actually I think you played at
- 1:12:51Northside, I'll have to confirm that bridge.
- 1:12:55Ali went to William and Mary then transfer to a Juco and now
- 1:12:59he's with the Hokies. Pretty, highly regarded Yuko as
- 1:13:02well. A top ten National four-star.
- 1:13:06The top Edge in Juco, y'all decide.
- 1:13:12Amongst yourself who's talking first about this young, man?
- 1:13:14Well, I mean again, like looking at, I'm not a coach, I'm not a
- 1:13:20recruiter, I'm a fan. So when I look at stuff, I look
- 1:13:23at a couple things and one thing we lacked for a long time is
- 1:13:28freaking size. I got so tired of recruiting 511
- 1:13:35defensive ends, you know? Like, come on man.
- 1:13:40Seeing somebody, that's 65 seeing somebody that's 64 66 on
- 1:13:45the line, makes me feel good. I don't know how good he's going
- 1:13:49to be, you know, everybody had their opinions about what they
- 1:13:53thought about it. Oh you don't have a ranking.
- 1:13:56Oh he's he doesn't have this and then boom.
- 1:13:58They said we we think he's a four-star dinner.
- 1:14:00Buddy goes whoa well how did we get him?
- 1:14:04Probably got to do with his size.
- 1:14:05He's bigger than everybody's playing.
- 1:14:07Probably a little bit faster than them so maybe he can come
- 1:14:10over here and turn up. So again, I like to do
- 1:14:14comparisons when you're talking players not same player, not
- 1:14:19same body, but kind of the same body of work as came, right in
- 1:14:26my head and then left what we got in from Juco, didn't he?
- 1:14:30Just got drafted to the Panthers.
- 1:14:32Oh I'm sorry. Barney Barney.
- 1:14:35Yeah, st. I feel like it could be a bar.
- 1:14:38No Type move, you know. Get in the weight room get
- 1:14:41stronger. Stepping in learn how to play
- 1:14:45the position. Sky's the limit.
- 1:14:48Yep, I was looking at him. I feel like he's about 15 pounds
- 1:14:52away from being kind of what you want him to be.
- 1:14:56I think he's got some good tools.
- 1:14:58And as you said, he's got the he's got the size of the length
- 1:15:01that you like a defensive end to play with an edge to play with,
- 1:15:07you know, looking at the tape, you know, there are some things
- 1:15:09that look really good. There's some things that you can
- 1:15:12work on I think, particularly about the A gate.
- 1:15:17He uses his hands. Well I think he still needs
- 1:15:20probably work on some extra moves there, something to kind
- 1:15:23of kind of counter here and there.
- 1:15:26But when we look at the size that's impressive.
- 1:15:30And if like I said, if he can get another 10 or 15 pounds on
- 1:15:33him, I think we might be working with something there and he's
- 1:15:37got a few years left as well because he came in in 2020 gun
- 1:15:42at William &. Mary, if you remember FCS
- 1:15:44canceled their season, they played the spring season.
- 1:15:47The so technically he's probably going to fall into getting three
- 1:15:50more years of Eligibility. So if we're not talking about
- 1:15:52bringing him, you know, day one to play.
- 1:15:56Like I said, put the weight on this year, which, you know, not
- 1:16:00Northern Durham Robbie. He went to Jordan down in Durham
- 1:16:04it's a thing but you know, it's putting the weight on its that
- 1:16:11and you know, Carrie become aparna, there's a reason.
- 1:16:15He went to an FCS school and some people like, oh, why don't
- 1:16:17we want an FCS player? Well, some of those guys grow so
- 1:16:23those guys show out. But if he went to an FCS school
- 1:16:27and especially a William and Mary, he's probably a smart kid,
- 1:16:31play football. Somebody probably told him down
- 1:16:33there. Hey dude, this is FCS in this
- 1:16:37school is very slow to get you in your position.
- 1:16:39You need to go out to a Juke own place somewhere because you get
- 1:16:42your tape with your size. You're going to get a P5.
- 1:16:45Offer in clearly that happened so hopefully that can turn into
- 1:16:51something. Let me get y'all feelings on
- 1:16:54this reported just a couple weeks ago, Jalen Jones has left
- 1:16:59the wide receiver room. So now we're at 13 wide
- 1:17:02receivers not 14 and he's moved over to safety and he's already,
- 1:17:08you know, got one of those hokey War Year Awards.
- 1:17:12What y'all think. I mean obviously this staff
- 1:17:15ain't afraid to tell somebody. Hey listen, go to that side of
- 1:17:19the ball. You play well, I mean, without
- 1:17:24the Virgin too much you know no one what we know here that y
- 1:17:30receiver room is competitive. Mmm, and and you've got you
- 1:17:35brought in some guys that are going to play and you may have
- 1:17:41some People in there that said hey what do I have to do?
- 1:17:44Coach to get on the field, there are some conversations like that
- 1:17:48and it may have been one of those conversations were Jalen.
- 1:17:52Jones may have been saying, hey I want to get on the field.
- 1:17:55What do I have to do to get on the field?
- 1:17:57And they said, well, let's take a look at this and it looks like
- 1:18:00he's working hard. It looks like you said, he's
- 1:18:02already got one of those Awards. He may be ready to make an
- 1:18:06impact somewhere else besides the wide receiver room.
- 1:18:12You know, maybe special teams, it may be him stepping into a
- 1:18:15role similar to Divine Diablo. Did you know, again other player
- 1:18:20comparison, he may have moved to that side of the ball and and he
- 1:18:25might flourish there. So what up what I do like about
- 1:18:29it is that the coaches aren't giving up on kids, okay?
- 1:18:32You're not good enough. Just go you know some some kids
- 1:18:35aren't some kids aren't a good fit for a school but this is a
- 1:18:38Virginia kid that apparently wants to be there.
- 1:18:44He's made the transition to defense from offense after a
- 1:18:48couple of years and he looks like he's working hard to do
- 1:18:51what he has to do to help the team win.
- 1:18:54I'm hoping that culture continues throughout all of the
- 1:18:59rooms and we see more and more kids continuing to work to get
- 1:19:04us. What we need to be when some
- 1:19:05names and is there Ryan. My big thing is that I love this
- 1:19:11because it's an opportunity for a God that is obviously put out
- 1:19:16a lot of effort that hadn't quite been able to crack into.
- 1:19:22It was right at the back. Edge of the too deep last year,
- 1:19:25obviously, with some of the guys that were brought in, in the
- 1:19:28offseason transfer portal. Probably they are or lower
- 1:19:32heading into this year, but he didn't say.
- 1:19:37All right. Well, I'm falling down the depth
- 1:19:40chart. See you later.
- 1:19:41I'm going to go do something else conversations.
- 1:19:44Had with coach and he decided. All right, let's, let's switch
- 1:19:46sides. Let's see if I can be an asset.
- 1:19:49And one of the things we had talked about earlier and I've
- 1:19:51set it on here before and I'll say it again.
- 1:19:54I always liked the way, Jalen Jones ran with the football.
- 1:19:59After the catch here, an angry, he ran like Anquan Boldin did
- 1:20:05when he had the ball. He ran like, somebody that
- 1:20:07immediately turned into an oversized running back.
- 1:20:11As soon as he got the ball in his hand and if he can That kind
- 1:20:14of toughness and that kind of mentality on the defensive side
- 1:20:18only. That's a quick transition for
- 1:20:20him, where he may be able to be a contributor by the end of this
- 1:20:24year and may be able to kind of work into the rotation at some
- 1:20:28point next year. And and, you know, as you said,
- 1:20:30Talley may be looking to get on the field.
- 1:20:34I, divide Diablo did by making the switch from wide receiver
- 1:20:37over to to safety. So I'm happy for the man and I
- 1:20:42hope him he steps up. Up and that safety is a good fit
- 1:20:46for him. Yeah, couple big things about
- 1:20:48Jaden just to know out there Hokie Nation, he had not taken a
- 1:20:52red shirt yet, he had not taken a wrestler, he played in 10
- 1:20:55games in 21, he played in 10 games last year, so if we're
- 1:20:59talking about him transitioning, if he does need that year, you
- 1:21:03got that red shirt year, right? Hey, learn to position this
- 1:21:06year. Let's get ready to get you on
- 1:21:08the field next year. So it's not like we're in a time
- 1:21:11crunch with him. If it was one of those things
- 1:21:13where I'm like, listen, We've already redshirted him.
- 1:21:16He's a redshirt junior. He got to play this year.
- 1:21:18We have that ability to say like I think what you said Bryan's
- 1:21:23perfect. See how he you know, training
- 1:21:26progresses. It may be at the end of the
- 1:21:28season. Hey let's get you on the field
- 1:21:30and get you in game action for it, which will be great and just
- 1:21:34best of luck for him. He is an RV a kid.
- 1:21:36He played down and TJ under coach Adam so you know it's good
- 1:21:41to see they're doing the boys in eight like this.
- 1:21:47So now Last piece even though we're going to have to keep it
- 1:21:52up on our rundown tally. When we show tally to run down,
- 1:21:56we talk about transfer portal. We keep transfer portal
- 1:21:58highlighting because it's an ever-growing list.
- 1:22:01This one we had to put on here even though he's not taking up a
- 1:22:05scholarship and he's going to be a preferred walk-on offer and
- 1:22:08that stone Schneider kid coming out of via my multiple time
- 1:22:15All-American down at the FCS level last year or Last two
- 1:22:19years of kind of looked like this stat line was 20 2120
- 1:22:24tackles 11, tackles for loss for sacks.
- 1:22:29Three fumble, recoveries last year, hundred seven, tackles
- 1:22:33three tackles for loss, only a half sacks of not the explosion.
- 1:22:37But clearly a man who played at that level, and excelled is
- 1:22:42coming here to one of the more solid rooms, Brian.
- 1:22:46I don't know. I know you were going to try to
- 1:22:48look at the tape for We jumped on.
- 1:22:49Did you get a chance to look at the stone Snyder's?
- 1:22:52Take before we have fun tonight. Yeah, so looking at the tape, I
- 1:22:56tell you the thing I like is that this guy is really good at
- 1:23:00getting off of Blocks, he's a shattered.
- 1:23:04Oh he's also a guy that is a sure tackler.
- 1:23:10Probably the biggest thing he needs to work on is he needs to
- 1:23:12work on his his speed. We've heard that from a Mike
- 1:23:16linebacker at Virginia Tech. So, We understand that
- 1:23:20limitation, especially when it comes to areas of coverage.
- 1:23:23But in terms of just being kind of a mic, go sideline to
- 1:23:27sideline a little bit can make plays in space and can can get
- 1:23:32off of blocks and be able to make tackles that aren't getting
- 1:23:36getting somebody dragged 345 yards down the field.
- 1:23:40It's a guy that can do it now whether you can translate that
- 1:23:43up to the power 5 level that's that's that remains to be seen
- 1:23:48but just Based on his technique and what he can do from an
- 1:23:52athletic standpoint. I think he's a good player that
- 1:23:57you could potentially look at as a potential starter in games
- 1:24:01where you have a run-heavy matchup.
- 1:24:04I don't think he's a guy that would contribute a lot for any
- 1:24:07sort of true spread, or a heavy passing attack, but if you got a
- 1:24:12team that's going to ground and pound, he could, he could be an
- 1:24:15asset. Pittsburgh, what size is he,
- 1:24:20what's the size 63 240 pounds. So he got some beat, he's 63 240
- 1:24:26with a name, like Stone. He better be ready to punch.
- 1:24:33I seen one highlight and he had a bionic arm or something.
- 1:24:38I don't know what was going on, but he had a thing on his arm
- 1:24:41like Batista had. I would like, probably tough.
- 1:24:46White linebacker, middle of wood with a name Stone.
- 1:24:50He probably can hit all. I need to see his nose.
- 1:24:53Get bloody one time. Fan favorite.
- 1:24:56We got Dax back. Let's go to actually point of
- 1:25:00dag to point up. Now.
- 1:25:01There you go. Put him in that.
- 1:25:03Tell him to go get, go hit. Hey don't need a cover.
- 1:25:06If nothing else it shows up the depth in that room.
- 1:25:10Completely you. Now yet Tisdale you got lost in
- 1:25:13you got Keller, you get the outside guys who can Play you
- 1:25:16got a really good too. Deep are, he's an RV, a kid.
- 1:25:19He played down in Monacan which is I believe, I think Monica and
- 1:25:25is still got a form of hokey as a head coach down there.
- 1:25:28So again, it's things like this in recruiting world, right?
- 1:25:31Hey, hey, you know, we would have taken Stone here four years
- 1:25:35ago. If we had been here but you go
- 1:25:39back and it gets those in robes and things like that.
- 1:25:41So I mean I feel good. You have 100 tackles at any
- 1:25:45level of football, you obviously kind of know what you're doing
- 1:25:49just because but again it's yours up a room and now I don't
- 1:25:56think we're worried about linebackers.
- 1:25:58We got the depth there in. You know, somebody's got to go
- 1:26:02from that room. That's younger than they got to
- 1:26:04go. All right.
- 1:26:05So Boys over the last six weeks, we have been seeing a lot of
- 1:26:13social media presence for my coaches out there.
- 1:26:15Talking about the winter workouts, putting the tough
- 1:26:18athletes up. Putting the Hokie Warriors up.
- 1:26:22Y'all ankle sit here and name them all.
- 1:26:24Because if I did it would take a little while but you all seen it
- 1:26:28and if you're a hockey fan and you haven't seen it.
- 1:26:31Go look at all the coaches page. They're sharing these every
- 1:26:34week. They're retweeting each other.
- 1:26:35They're pushing these guys and pumping their guys up and we
- 1:26:39cooked we look at it today because I'm a nerd, not make the
- 1:26:43list and I made the big long list and we sat here this
- 1:26:47morning kind of talked about it and Is something I can't
- 1:26:52remember if it was Taylor, you Braun just, that's the way my
- 1:26:55brain works. We talked about cream rising to
- 1:26:59the top of this list, because just about every player on this
- 1:27:03list. Play, either a significant role
- 1:27:07last year on this team or was one of the prize transfer
- 1:27:12recruits. Yeah.
- 1:27:15When we look at it, you know, you got guys, like, you know,
- 1:27:17Gallows on here, three times. Hope you wore your Got you know
- 1:27:23Kelly lost and you got Mario Kendricks, you got my sword,
- 1:27:27delaying, you got Josh fuga. These are guys that have had a
- 1:27:33presence for this team last year, Jalen strowman on here two
- 1:27:37times. So I mean these are these are
- 1:27:39Big Time Players that played key roles for us last year.
- 1:27:44Good to see them competing in the offseason.
- 1:27:48And you know, we look at At the cream Rises to the top.
- 1:27:51Also let's talk a little bit about the couple guys that can
- 1:27:55transfer it in that are on this list.
- 1:27:57You got canteen on here, you got drones on here you got Jalen
- 1:28:03Lane on here. These this is this is good
- 1:28:08because it shows you that these guys are coming in and
- 1:28:10immediately competing and buying into the culture that coach
- 1:28:15pride and the rest of the staff is set for this team.
- 1:28:20Definitely, definitely. Now one of the names that I seen
- 1:28:24that I didn't see earlier actually was McRae CJ McRae.
- 1:28:29He's on there, right? Yeah.
- 1:28:32McRae was got a tough athlete award.
- 1:28:35Have you after Warrior award but got the tough athlete Award,
- 1:28:37right? But the McRae during the season.
- 1:28:41If you watch some of the earlier games, he jumped off of the
- 1:28:44screen man, like I don't know what happened later in the
- 1:28:47season. I don't know if he had Resort or
- 1:28:50what but watching him early in the season, it was like thank
- 1:28:54you is number 56. Only.
- 1:28:56Yeah, we need more of him, you know, like that, that looks
- 1:29:00good. So, I'll be interested to see
- 1:29:02kind of, you know what, what he's able to do.
- 1:29:06And all of these guys, you know, like you said, a lot of the
- 1:29:10contributors that we expect to be big players for us we've seen
- 1:29:17on there. Now, pivoting, just a little bit
- 1:29:22of course, because I'm a Virginia Tech fan.
- 1:29:26I always get a little nervous of the people.
- 1:29:29You don't see, you know what's going on with what this guy?
- 1:29:33Why haven't we seen anything from him when we talk about ali
- 1:29:38Jennings? You know, you talk about ali
- 1:29:40Jennings and, and US knowing he's going to be a leader in
- 1:29:45that wide receiver room, you know, constantly looking for
- 1:29:49him, you know, constantly looking for him to win
- 1:29:52something. Talk about Dorian strong.
- 1:29:57Yeah. What are we going to see from
- 1:29:59him? This year?
- 1:30:00You haven't seen them on a lot of different lists like that but
- 1:30:04I know it's some injuries and things like that that we're
- 1:30:06waiting overcome. So that's one of the stuff that
- 1:30:09I've been kind of paying attention to this off.
- 1:30:11Season. One thing I am, glad about is
- 1:30:14that last season it was so many unknowns.
- 1:30:19I didn't know if you go back and look at any of my Twitter page
- 1:30:23time. Online and stuff.
- 1:30:25When people talked about what we would do going to the season I
- 1:30:28was like yeah. Not too excited.
- 1:30:30I don't, it's going to be tough to get to a ball game and people
- 1:30:33would like you're crazy. Look at this schedule.
- 1:30:35I'm like we are the schedule. It was looking at us.
- 1:30:39I don't want to look at who we play what on killed him.
- 1:30:43So a lot of these players I know him.
- 1:30:47You know we don't have will Gustav Abyss playing wide
- 1:30:52receiver this year. Thank the Lord stuff like that.
- 1:30:58Yeah, and to your point Talia, there are there are some names
- 1:31:01that have been missing and we don't know if it's injury or
- 1:31:04just they're not there and that, that that does creep to worry in
- 1:31:09the back of your mind. Because for me, you mention Ali
- 1:31:12and Dorian me. Not seen Alan Tisdale worries me
- 1:31:16because he is the he is the oldest guy in that linebacker
- 1:31:20room. He's played the money.
- 1:31:22Yeah, he's played the most Bar, None.
- 1:31:25I mean, go back to 2019 when he Down to Miami game when he's
- 1:31:29puking all over the field playing his guts out and last
- 1:31:33year came back look great. You know after the suspension in
- 1:31:37that worries me but then I look at this list to and are y'all
- 1:31:41worried about not seeing some of the younger guys like because
- 1:31:47there's not a lot of them there's you know talk about the
- 1:31:50class of 22. It's other than Bryce.
- 1:31:53Do you guys think nice into big ones?
- 1:31:56That I like I see two big ones. So many.
- 1:31:59I know he's seen some on there. Go ahead, Brian office of
- 1:32:08course. Well, who are you worried about?
- 1:32:11Not seeing on there then. And I'm saying this guy's
- 1:32:16Praises a lot, but I want to see Daquan right on this list by the
- 1:32:20end of winter workouts because I know we got Nick Gallo is a
- 1:32:24big-time workout Warrior but we're going to need to rely on
- 1:32:28Daquan right to be more than just a joker tight end that we
- 1:32:33can line up wide. We really need him to be able to
- 1:32:36get in the wing and get in line and do things like that because
- 1:32:39that's going to open up some things for us talent that we can
- 1:32:42do offensive ly. Say what you were saying earlier
- 1:32:45today about Daquan because you really you made a really good
- 1:32:48point about him. Me Daquan, is your he is your
- 1:32:52next Virginia Tech tidying to go to the league.
- 1:32:58He he needs to be salivating to watch film like Travis Kelce
- 1:33:05hitting all of these tight ends. Now that are in the league, that
- 1:33:10do what he does. If he goes hard like Brian is
- 1:33:14saying in this weight room this offseason because he's already
- 1:33:18burst onto the scene, he goes hard this offseason in takes
- 1:33:22that next step and you don't have to take him off the field.
- 1:33:27He's going to call some people, some problems because you got to
- 1:33:30be able to block you got to be able to line up, right?
- 1:33:33You got to be able to be flexed out.
- 1:33:35You got to be able to know how to pick up blitzes.
- 1:33:39It's a lot of different things that you have.
- 1:33:41Do and that tight end position. You pretty much a learning to
- 1:33:45positions, you learning wide receiver and you're learning
- 1:33:49offensive lineman, you know you got to be able to do both of
- 1:33:52them. So That is, that is a, that's a
- 1:33:55big one that Brian brought up that I don't want to use the
- 1:33:59word worried, even us talking about this, I don't want to use
- 1:34:02the word that it worries us, but it is something that you like,
- 1:34:06I'd like to see something different out of that because,
- 1:34:11right? Right is going to be a big part
- 1:34:12of our offense. He's gonna be a huge part of our
- 1:34:15offense and even watching, I'll just go back to the.
- 1:34:18I think it was the Malcolm Thomas as well, and I know, No,
- 1:34:23he's been battling injuries but I was just about to say to go
- 1:34:26back and think about the North Carolina State game.
- 1:34:31We that game look totally different when Thomas got hurt
- 1:34:35it like it took the air out of the whole team when he went down
- 1:34:40but the first half we couldn't do shit and then we come out
- 1:34:45that second half and right takes over, you know, I think he took
- 1:34:49two passes down the field. It may have had about 60 yards,
- 1:34:53receiving in two passes or three passes.
- 1:34:56So him being a part of the offense dramatically.
- 1:35:01Changes it, when he's when he's there and as a threat.
- 1:35:06So I'm going to be excited to see where we go with with him.
- 1:35:12He's shown, he can get open. He's shown, he can make plays
- 1:35:14after the catch. You know, had that one big
- 1:35:17fumble that you kind of, you know, it is what it is.
- 1:35:21He works on ball security. If he works on blocking, he can
- 1:35:24buy me. The sky is really the limit for
- 1:35:25him and because he kept a sleet in the both of y'all's points.
- 1:35:30If you can do everything, And if he can go in line Wing h-back,
- 1:35:34slot X, if you don't take them off, if you, if you leave him on
- 1:35:39the field every single play, you basically you're dictating the
- 1:35:43terms of that defense. Who you going to put on him.
- 1:35:46Oh, you gonna put the 5-11 little corner back and he can
- 1:35:49come on, try to press him. He'll Ragdoll him to the ground
- 1:35:53and we don't get it out. Oh, you're going to take that
- 1:35:55line. Backers will be two steps off of
- 1:35:57him. Go for, we will run a little
- 1:35:58scene now now think about this. Think about how we use Dalton
- 1:36:03King when we had him. Oh yeah and Don King is and I
- 1:36:08love what dr. King was he's not half the
- 1:36:11athlete of Daquan right at all. So Don King went to the league,
- 1:36:17no matter how much he played. He got drafted and went to the
- 1:36:20league. He is a I think Robbie said it
- 1:36:24perfect matchup Nightmare and when he catches the ball he
- 1:36:28ain't falling down like Bucky This is true and I love, I love,
- 1:36:36he was a matchup nightmare, but he wasn't getting no yards after
- 1:36:39the catch. Right is so, man, I got one runs
- 1:36:44again, we talked about when we were talking about Jalen Jones,
- 1:36:47right? Kind of has the same same
- 1:36:48mentality when he gets the ball. He's not just going down at
- 1:36:52first time. No proof freshman to refresh.
- 1:36:55Finish. Tried to get away and get extra
- 1:36:58yards every time a new Also goes back to way to coaches are
- 1:37:02teaching. Hey, you mumbled a ball inside,
- 1:37:06it's football. We gonna get better.
- 1:37:08It's football people, fumble. And that's one thing.
- 1:37:11I think I said it, who was it? Brian, that fumbled and they put
- 1:37:14them right? Like he shocking last.
- 1:37:16You even though he's looking to leave us couple times Keyshawn
- 1:37:19fumbled, and he was out there, couple series later, date
- 1:37:21invention because it's football. People are going to Fumble,
- 1:37:25people make plays on the other side of the ball.
- 1:37:27Yeah so that wraps that up, keep an eye on that if you're I doubt
- 1:37:31there because it's good to see. I love it to me.
- 1:37:36It's just, it's just lovely to see.
- 1:37:39They're giving these guys to credit for busting their asses
- 1:37:42in the winter, and they're getting recognition every week
- 1:37:45on Fridays. They, it's that Roundup.
- 1:37:47You expecting it. And I love seeing that because
- 1:37:49those guys deserve it. All right, we got a few more
- 1:37:52news and notes. Before we wrap up tonight.
- 1:37:55Did y'all know the usfl had their draft today?
- 1:37:59I saw you told me this man regardless what you say they got
- 1:38:16drafted in have a chance and opportunity to play in the next
- 1:38:22level. Yep.
- 1:38:24So good on them. I'm sure they're there.
- 1:38:27They're hoping it's like Months from now somebody calls that
- 1:38:30name but they got a lot of stuff to go through before then and
- 1:38:33it's it's right. Funny.
- 1:38:34It's like you're secure right now guys.
- 1:38:36You got something. Yeah, they got their have
- 1:38:39opportunity to keep playing and show what they're worth.
- 1:38:42And, you know, it's definitely a platform that for guys like
- 1:38:48Silas and Jayla that may not be, you know, standout players in
- 1:38:52terms of getting combine invites and things like that, it gives
- 1:38:56them a platform to kind of show what they can do.
- 1:38:59Outside of their college system in a more pro-style system with
- 1:39:02Pro coaches. You know, a lot of the guys in
- 1:39:05these leagues that are coaching now, our former NFL coaches and
- 1:39:08things like that, so that, you know, they'll be able to see
- 1:39:10that the network kind of gets created there.
- 1:39:13So it's definitely an Avenue for them.
- 1:39:15Hope they make the most of it. Definitely, everybody story
- 1:39:19different, man. We don't know what somebody's
- 1:39:20Story begins and ends, you know, somebody.
- 1:39:25They can get it one of these developmental leagues or XFL.
- 1:39:28Canadian Football League, it could make their career, their
- 1:39:32it's about money as well. So if you can play the game you
- 1:39:36love and you can make money for your family, have it?
- 1:39:39Yes sir. What's a hokie always?
- 1:39:41Okay, we're going to root you on.
- 1:39:43You come right by that. If you went if you win a
- 1:39:46championship week claiming that fucking Championship.
- 1:39:49Yes, sir. Well, speaking of making money
- 1:39:55this is strictly here in Virginia tally out, Liz Not an
- 1:39:59Alabama and Alabama has a state that does not do it to our
- 1:40:01knowledge. The vhsl, the Virginia High
- 1:40:04School league is proposing, the opportunity for high school
- 1:40:07athletes to have name, image, and likeness.
- 1:40:11What y'all thought I made the joke earlier.
- 1:40:14So I'll leave this, just because I know what High School coaches
- 1:40:18make you, I was making a joke earlier, it's going to be star
- 1:40:21players on high school teams in this ghostly difficult that are
- 1:40:24making more than the coaches are.
- 1:40:27Because I mean, coaches stipends in Virginia, are like four or
- 1:40:31five thousand dollars, it's for assistant coaches.
- 1:40:35So, it's pretty, pretty, pretty low ball.
- 1:40:39And most most of them are teachers to say, yes, Teacher
- 1:40:41salary plus that stipend, you know what we're looking at
- 1:40:44there. So that's going to be kind of
- 1:40:48wild. I have no problem with the y'all
- 1:40:50know. I'm very much a ni L forward
- 1:40:53person if people can use their image name and likeness to make
- 1:40:58money. I'm all for it.
- 1:41:00So, you know, let it ride, it'll be interesting to see what type
- 1:41:06of guard rails. They put up in place for it, you
- 1:41:08know, you know. Yeah.
- 1:41:09When you have stuff like that, you know.
- 1:41:11No, it's not. Like you said, it's going to be
- 1:41:12guardrails. They're going to have to do
- 1:41:15something to make sure that it's in compliance with what they're
- 1:41:21looking for, but like it's what the things is in our Hill is
- 1:41:26named image likeness. My name is Jonathan tally, if I
- 1:41:31want to sign, if somebody wants to pay me to sign an autograph,
- 1:41:35if I'm a 12th grader. For my name, that's their money.
- 1:41:40I should be able to get paid for it, you know, is it, it's going
- 1:41:44to have some stuff up, this going to have to like you said,
- 1:41:46gonna we're gonna have to figure some things out but I like it.
- 1:41:50I don't think it's a bad thing and he'll I'm from Alabama.
- 1:41:53People been doing that anyway. Oh you're right.
- 1:41:56They've been they've been doing this for years.
- 1:41:58Well, it's closed doors. Anyway, so we might as well go
- 1:42:02ahead and say, well, we don't want to get you in trouble.
- 1:42:05We don't want to stop you from doing playing a sport that Love
- 1:42:09because you took some money about some Jordans.
- 1:42:12They is Robbie told about his stipend down in Greenville.
- 1:42:17I mean, I like it when you give the kids, the opportunity, like
- 1:42:21you said, Talley it's going on. A lot of places, a lot of
- 1:42:23places. Anyway, you might as well make
- 1:42:25it all out in the open, you know, because if it least, it's
- 1:42:32that way, you know, who's you know what boosters are, what
- 1:42:35high school are stroking, the checks.
- 1:42:37And that can level some stuff out in some ways, but we'll see
- 1:42:43how it goes. Because I'm sure it's got to go
- 1:42:45through legislation and all that stuff here in the state, which
- 1:42:48it's going to be real interesting to follow over the
- 1:42:50next couple years. Yeah, it's gonna be interesting
- 1:42:52to see how they handle. I mean, because, I mean,
- 1:42:55obviously Virginia, I'll be recruiting is pretty much
- 1:42:59illegal from a from a letter of the law standpoint, but it
- 1:43:05happens all the time. Like it ain't, you know.
- 1:43:07There's fudging, addresses. I mean, there's there's a lot of
- 1:43:10kids that live in the city that, you know, play in schools in the
- 1:43:15here, in Richmond area. There's a lot of kids that are
- 1:43:20Zone places that end up playing for powers in the 757 that we
- 1:43:26know and love. So, I mean, there's a lot of
- 1:43:29ways around it. Yes, but but again, that's
- 1:43:32always been in place and obviously if you've got in il in
- 1:43:36place, that's just going to kind of Sweeten.
- 1:43:37In that pot a little bit more 100%.
- 1:43:40It, there's always a family member that lives in the
- 1:43:44district that you want to play as I guaran-damn-tee.
- 1:43:48All right, two more things. Shout out to treadmill horse,
- 1:43:52for putting this out there a couple weeks ago.
- 1:43:54Apparently, we're going to have better cell service and lean
- 1:43:57Stadium, this year. Apparently, they put some
- 1:43:59antennas up. And I mean, I've won when I go
- 1:44:01to the game, and it's been, it'll be three years now.
- 1:44:05Since I last step foot in Lane, I checked my Phone during, you
- 1:44:10know, the quarters. If I walk to the pisser or
- 1:44:12half-time in the end of the game, I'm not out there.
- 1:44:16Planted. I know people like well, film
- 1:44:17Sam is so cool. I've been old school kid.
- 1:44:21I used to sit in West stands in the student section and when you
- 1:44:26sit in that section it is an experience when you feel your
- 1:44:30body move. So, when I hear the kids out
- 1:44:31here like this, like what do you like, what you freaking phone
- 1:44:34down and enjoy it. Curtis, you got to get into the
- 1:44:39new century man. I'm sorry you got it, you gotta
- 1:44:42listen, I gotta send your question, your kids age 10?
- 1:44:46Okay, you're still young. I got a 13 and 17 year old.
- 1:44:51It's all about Tick-Tock and Instagram, and all of that
- 1:44:54stuff. So people want to see the real
- 1:44:57world, the real stuff like they want to see the Raw and Uncut
- 1:45:02footage of Sandman and people running out and Brian getting
- 1:45:06drunk. And Falling over beside them.
- 1:45:08Like they need that Self Service, they need to have it
- 1:45:12better. They want those live updates
- 1:45:14during the game. I get you, I understand.
- 1:45:18We are not caring too much about that, but those kids, well,
- 1:45:24we're trying to pack that Stadium.
- 1:45:27We want them to stay in. Now, we need them to be able to
- 1:45:30check Tick, Tock to see what card he be doing.
- 1:45:33Okay, I hear you, I'll say this. So, Even if you think you from
- 1:45:38an old school perspective, there's times when you can't
- 1:45:41even send a damn text message last.
- 1:45:43That was a pain in the ass. So like, if I get separated from
- 1:45:47the guy came to the game with like I can't even send the damn
- 1:45:49text message, where the hell, yeah, three hours later you find
- 1:45:53somebody down at tots on the fifth real?
- 1:45:55Yes, I carry you home. Now, he's going to collect all
- 1:46:01of that Sandman footage. You can the next time we've been
- 1:46:03laying, I'm getting all of it. I'll tell you what, though.
- 1:46:08I got talk a lot of trash about Sandman, but even being like
- 1:46:13when you're there, it's just, it's a surreal is feeling, you
- 1:46:18know what I'm saying? To go through it and even like,
- 1:46:21I've been there when we play Clemson, whatever year, when 17,
- 1:46:2617 17 at place where nuts? Yeah, that was.
- 1:46:38Kinda I was I was there a little late but I did get the I would
- 1:46:41never write when it started, but I got there.
- 1:46:43And it was nuts, man is and I was kind of finding my way and
- 1:46:47feeling my way around town that was my wife's first game action,
- 1:46:52I love it because my first game was 16 and she went with me and
- 1:46:5517. Yeah I'll say I say this.
- 1:46:58I got to go 05 Georgia Tech game day with said my fraternity
- 1:47:04Brother David and my fraternity brother.
- 1:47:05Brian. And I will tell anyone, if you
- 1:47:11if if you are a tech fan in game day, comes this year and you can
- 1:47:15go go go. It is a great experience.
- 1:47:20It is a, even if you can't get, it is football.
- 1:47:23It is, it is something different.
- 1:47:25And I mean, we got there about you because that's when it was
- 1:47:28like a two-hour show. We got there the last 40 minutes
- 1:47:31and I mean, it was like this, you know, and when I was with
- 1:47:34me, I got that right. The last 30, 30 minutes.
- 1:47:37Yep, and it, and it just your feel it brundun.
- 1:47:41Yeah. I haven't made a game time.
- 1:47:44There we go. There we go.
- 1:47:45That's the, it's on the list. There we go.
- 1:47:50So the thing is, man, like me being here.
- 1:47:53I've been to a couple of games and, you know, different sets of
- 1:47:59tailgates and things like that. When we came up and 16, we
- 1:48:04didn't know anybody me and my buddy.
- 1:48:07Like personally like I know you guys know we just we knew a
- 1:48:12couple of people off of Facebook like names, okay, he looks like
- 1:48:15this, he looks like this. And yeah man we got a warm
- 1:48:19welcome like just walking by tailgates and and having
- 1:48:25conversations with people. Oh yeah.
- 1:48:27You talk different where you from?
- 1:48:28I'm from Alabama, what are you doing here?
- 1:48:30You know what I'm saying? And then just it trickled into
- 1:48:34you got a tailgate place here, you got to place under like Like
- 1:48:37yeah, I met some people, this longtime friends like my friend,
- 1:48:39Mike is like my brother. Now we talked on the phone
- 1:48:42probably once a day and that's why I've been to most of my
- 1:48:47games with now it's just a different feeling when you get
- 1:48:50to Blacksburg man hid in a lot of different places I've been
- 1:48:53and even when you talk about Alabama, going to Tuscaloosa
- 1:48:57going to to Auburn course I want the Jacksonville State played,
- 1:49:02you know, seeing some games there and just a Alabama A&M.
- 1:49:06Live here in Huntsville, they're here.
- 1:49:08I've been to a couple of different games, but tailgate
- 1:49:12wise and just the community is just a different feeling.
- 1:49:16And I know that sounds cliche to people who are not, you know,
- 1:49:19haven't been there and having experienced it, but it is, is it
- 1:49:22something different? I'm just, I'm looking forward to
- 1:49:25the day when those when those games are as meaningful.
- 1:49:29Yeah. As 16, they 2016 and we played
- 1:49:35Miami on that Thursday night. It was just it was electric man,
- 1:49:39you know what I'm saying? And it was even before we
- 1:49:42stepped on the field, you know, it was just excitement, you
- 1:49:46know, like Virginia Tech football was back and so I look
- 1:49:51forward to getting back to those getting back to those games and
- 1:49:54getting back to those days and damn it.
- 1:49:57This is the year, let's do it. All right, you already couple
- 1:50:01the best environment with actually playing for something
- 1:50:04that matters right playing the meaningful game.
- 1:50:07And I think that's what's been missing.
- 1:50:09I think, you know, even when we were looking at kind of the
- 1:50:13upcoming schedule, we were looking at it last year, looking
- 1:50:15at this year. I mean, it's not, it's not a lot
- 1:50:17of what I'd call meaningful home games this year, in terms of.
- 1:50:22But if you never gave that a probably big that are going to
- 1:50:26potentially matter, whether it's in the ACC race or something
- 1:50:28like that. Yeah.
- 1:50:30But the thing is, if you sit here in we're you know we're
- 1:50:34shooting the breeze. Now we got one more thing to
- 1:50:35talk about. We're going to wrap.
- 1:50:36It up because we almost been going to ours.
- 1:50:38Welcome. Maybe to the new normal.
- 1:50:41But if you tell me, it's late, October like the Syracuse game
- 1:50:46in text 6, + 1, 7 and 0. It's a big game that don't
- 1:50:49matter like we're good. This game matters to us about
- 1:50:53where we're trying to go. Wouldn't get it when it gained
- 1:50:56will game winning games changed. Everything you go.
- 1:50:59You start winning games regardless.
- 1:51:02What the team is, the atmosphere changes and it tag it goes from.
- 1:51:07It's always an unbelievable atmosphere to make you think
- 1:51:10about 16 when you were there and then 17 and Clemson when we were
- 1:51:13unbeaten, playing them is through the roof.
- 1:51:16And when we were going in the early 2000s and you know, KJ was
- 1:51:20there in Bryan, Randall in Hall, it was Unreal and we're sitting
- 1:51:27here. We all are in our later 30s and
- 1:51:30we're trying to tell this generation.
- 1:51:31It's like don't leave it half time State like watch the game
- 1:51:36be there. R.
- 1:51:37Because when this place gets loud and nasty, teens don't like
- 1:51:40playing here, they don't like driving up 81 from Roanoke.
- 1:51:44And the smoke comes rolling off the mountains.
- 1:51:47And you see that big brick walls, you get on 460 and, you
- 1:51:50know, man, it's about to get loud and nasty for a few hours
- 1:51:54on that field. And that's what, you know,
- 1:51:57that's what we've seen. That's what we want.
- 1:52:00Speaking of speaking of that, since we're talking about it and
- 1:52:03like you said, I know, we gotta wrap this up what game?
- 1:52:07Is that you guys? What games are you guys looking
- 1:52:09at this year that you're trying to trying to make?
- 1:52:12You haven't even thought about it?
- 1:52:13Yeah, you thought about it. I'm definitely going to
- 1:52:16Louisville. I'm wrapping that up.
- 1:52:18I'm pull, you going up my camera?
- 1:52:20That's a road game. Yeah.
- 1:52:22Okay. I'm going to Louisville this
- 1:52:24year. I got a couple of friends.
- 1:52:26It's already got their rooms, and I'm probably going to get
- 1:52:29mine Friday, but I don't know which home game.
- 1:52:33I'm coming too or, how many home games I'm coming too?
- 1:52:36Right now it looks like Purdue is probably the home game.
- 1:52:41Did I'm coming too? All right, just because I
- 1:52:43refused to come and watch us play ODU.
- 1:52:49I can't handle it either way. Win or loss, I don't want to see
- 1:52:55it but produce the team that, you know, we ain't played maybe
- 1:53:00a little different. I seen this played Notre Dame.
- 1:53:02I seen us play clip. At home.
- 1:53:07I seen this play Miami, so I'm just looking for a good game and
- 1:53:11that's a early game. We go into that.
- 1:53:14Not if we're going to beat ODU this year, we're going to go
- 1:53:17beat them this year and then we're going to be 1 and 0.
- 1:53:19Yep. And then we're going to go in
- 1:53:20and we're going to play Purdue and I'm looking for us to smack
- 1:53:23them and I want to be there. I'm all right.
- 1:53:26That's what you did. I'm saying I'm going to and I'm
- 1:53:29going to the spring and we are going to spring game.
- 1:53:31I'll be there he's gonna be there I can't confirm or deny
- 1:53:34yet. I got kids doing a lot of stuff
- 1:53:36I I ain't going to guarantee it. I mean, you've been there and,
- 1:53:40you know, me and being telephone link-up.
- 1:53:42Regardless Wally cannot Sublime. You grab them by the balls and
- 1:53:48throw him in the back. And that man is going to be an
- 1:54:03assistant defensive back coach for the Panthers.
- 1:54:06He got the itch right? Yep he got that itch got the
- 1:54:10itch. I mean by some media for a
- 1:54:14while. So I mean it's interesting that
- 1:54:17these jumping in The Fray but I'm happy for him.
- 1:54:19That's yes, that's something that I think he's always kind of
- 1:54:23looked at, but just kind of and figured out I went to make the
- 1:54:26jump. What's the right move?
- 1:54:27When's the right time and if he finally took that step so good
- 1:54:31for him. This coaching job sweat, so he
- 1:54:33can come back to Tech and help us out.
- 1:54:36That's what he's doing. He talked to me and told me that
- 1:54:39I, there we go, flying. Barry.
- 1:54:42Go tallies got some sources here.
