- 0:34politics and hope. Before we begin, this is this is
- 0:39this episode. It may not be suitable for

- 1:13All right, Cape on heart open and let's fly.
- 1:17So I'm joined today by my guest and the owner of High Tension
- 1:23Wrestling Network and Wrestling, Alex the Kilowatt.
- 1:27What's going on, Bud? What's going on man 1, I
- 1:30appreciate that you just gave me the permission to go off the
- 1:34rails. Yeah, I mean, that goes without
- 1:36saying. You are on the ABJ podcast Last
- 1:38time you were on here a long, long time ago.
- 1:42The first time. You talked about fisting or your
- 1:44girlfriend getting fisted. So anything is and that's and
- 1:48we're out of the gate. This is we're we're 2 minutes in
- 1:51and we already. Talked about some people want to
- 1:53be worn like a muppet. That's cool.
- 1:56Yeah, imagine Superman doing that.
- 1:58The lowest, terrible, terrible stuff.
- 2:03All right, so let's dive into this.
- 2:06Let's get into our first segment here and why this movie matters.
- 2:10The DC Cinematic Universe has its rocky history, multiple
- 2:13reboots, tonal whiplash, fan fatigue.
- 2:16Superman 2025 arrives not only as a hopeful add on, but as a
- 2:20foundation stone for this new franchise.
- 2:23James Gunn isn't just directing, he's world building.
- 2:26He says this is our starting point.
- 2:27This film exists in a clean slate, disregarding most of the
- 2:30previous DC continuity except threads he deems strong enough
- 2:33to carry forward. At its core, it's about faith
- 2:37and heroes and people and storytelling.
- 2:39It's it asks can we believe again?
- 2:41So I guess my first question to you from your first thoughts,
- 2:45does Superman without spoilers or anything just yet, does
- 2:48Superman 2025 feel like a new beginning or just another re
- 2:51thread in the spandex? No.
- 2:53If it feels completely different than anything we've ever gotten
- 2:56before, it feels completely disconnected to the former DCEU.
- 3:04It feels different than the Greg Berlanti's CW universe.
- 3:11It just, it feels to me like the comic book come to life.
- 3:18It it feels like it's ready to explore new territories with a
- 3:23vintage costume in a sense like that like filter, because like,
- 3:30visually it looks like a comic book to me.
- 3:34It's beautiful. But yeah, I think this is
- 3:37something completely new. I'm I'm a big fan.
- 3:42Yeah, I feel like the DC Universe for the longest time
- 3:45was kind of in the boat of Marvel.
- 3:48We're back in the day, Marvel made movies, but they weren't
- 3:50allowed to play or they weren't allowed to touch each other, or
- 3:53one movie company owned this, or one person owned the rights to
- 3:56this character, and this character wasn't allowed to be
- 3:58used unless this like, you know what I mean?
- 4:00And DC had a ton of Batman movies, a ton of Superman movies
- 4:03never crossed paths, like, you know what I mean?
- 4:06Everyone kind of stayed in their own lanes, but X Snyder gave us
- 4:09a little bit of that. And then people are like, either
- 4:12you absolutely love the Snyder verse or you hate it.
- 4:14I'm someone who loved it. I.
- 4:17I'm in between. Yeah, I think it sucks that what
- 4:21I love in the Siner universe is things that I had to dive deep
- 4:25dive and do fan fiction and be more of an insider because not
- 4:29everything that was shown on screen was good.
- 4:32Suicide Squad not a great movie, but if you listen to Zack
- 4:36Snyder's like, hey, this, this, this, this was all cut from the
- 4:39movie. And there's a whole nother cut
- 4:40of that Suicide Squad like you're.
- 4:42Like so David Ayers took on the first Suicide Squad movie and
- 4:46there was a whole lot more Joker and Harley to it that just got
- 4:50ripped. And WB has a history of its
- 4:54executives coming and being like, no and and just stripping
- 4:59a director of his creative freedom.
- 5:01So somewhere out there, there's a David Ayers cut that promises
- 5:05to be a far superior movie that we're never going to get to see.
- 5:09Yeah. And then we kind of had that
- 5:10with Justice League. Well, Batman VS Superman.
- 5:13And then we've seen that uncut version and we're like, wait a
- 5:15second, this is a different movie.
- 5:17Then we Justice League and it was bad.
- 5:21And then just the the Snyder Cut of that.
- 5:23And then he threw in the fucking nightmare scene, which we were
- 5:26like, this DC Universe would have been unbelievable.
- 5:30And I wish it was so true to the comic book fans, but also gave
- 5:34the cinematic universe its own feel.
- 5:36And it was beautiful and we never got it.
- 5:39I wish I could say that like, sorry, I wish I could say that
- 5:43that wasn't a Zack Snyder trend, but take it all the way back to
- 5:47Watchmen Director's Cut. Longer and far superior, way
- 5:52more character stuff and fanservice.
- 5:56And then you get the Unfortunately, Justice League
- 5:59was mainly due to his kid died and then Joss Whedon had to pick
- 6:04up the pieces. Well.
- 6:05The DC also kind of fucked him over.
- 6:07They were in they. Were trying to get rid of.
- 6:08Him and they were trying to get rid of him and then use his kids
- 6:10death to fire him which sucks. Right, right.
- 6:13But his cut was far superior. But like, in general, my problem
- 6:18with the Snyder versus, I think it was trying to take the lead
- 6:21of the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight series.
- 6:25And everybody's want to be like, well, RDC universe got to be
- 6:28dark. And I don't think it has to be
- 6:30dark to be deep. And I think that's what James
- 6:33Gunn is proving like. Not to jump ahead to Peacemaker
- 6:37Season 2, but once you get there, it's it's bright, but
- 6:41it's deep as hell. Yeah, I, I, I think even
- 6:44watching Superman it, I think they did a good job of
- 6:47portraying Superman and what Superman is just in wrestling
- 6:50terms. If you're a wrestling fan, if
- 6:52you I'm sorry, I love that you'll love this.
- 6:54But if you're not a wrestling fan, you may not get this, but
- 6:56the golden face, babyface, golden child, good boy.
- 7:00Superman is boring to me. And I always wanted him with a
- 7:04little bit of edge, with a little bit of humor, a little
- 7:06bit of just not so straight laced.
- 7:09And James Gunn, I will get more into a little bit more him in
- 7:13his moment here. But he I feel like he founds
- 7:15finds a way with Guardians of the Galaxy to still make it deep
- 7:19and feel like as an adult, you're not being your
- 7:21intelligence is being insulted by watching a comic book kids
- 7:24movie where it could be like there's some underlying tones
- 7:27and there's some visuals and there's some emotion here, but
- 7:30it's still at the end of the day, can still be consumed by
- 7:32children. And I think James Gunn is the
- 7:34perfect person to pluck out of that because DC wants Marvel
- 7:39movies. They want they want the people
- 7:41to take over their movies who make them feel more like Marvel,
- 7:44but also still give them the edge of DCI.
- 7:46Think James Gunn so far in this first Superman movie knocks it
- 7:51out of the park. I.
- 7:53Agree. All right, well, let's get into
- 7:55our next segment here. Visuals, tone and directional
- 7:58style. So one of the one of the films
- 8:01triumphs is how how it looks and feels.
- 8:05Henry Brahms. I hope I said this name
- 8:07correctly. I'm trying to get better with
- 8:08this. Cinematography bathes in
- 8:10Smallville in golden golden wheat fields.
- 8:13Sunsets and Metropolis gleam like stained glass.
- 8:16Every frame feels lived in and textured Guns.
- 8:19Pacing is intentional where he leaves quiet moments to breathe.
- 8:22Clark reading Lois investigating the hum in the fortress before
- 8:27unleashing A spectacle. He doesn't gangster suede
- 8:32viewers within CGI at all, at all, at all times.
- 8:35But when it hits, it hits hard. The music by John Murphy is in a
- 8:39character in itself. It swells in hope quite
- 8:43introspect and occasionally a a sting of loneliness.
- 8:46It references classic Superman motifs, but just just just when
- 8:49it's enough it to feel fresh. How did the movie for you look
- 8:55and sound pacing land and also the pacing land for you?
- 8:58Did it feel modern and classic or somewhere in between?
- 9:01So immediately, and I went to see this in the theaters, it
- 9:05just you fade in on this beautifully bright white snowy
- 9:11landscape. And one of the things about the
- 9:15film that plays into the pacing that you expect in every origin
- 9:19story or superhero film is to go back to an origin story.
- 9:24We don't need that with Superman.
- 9:26He's so prolific, right? So we have we have, I think I
- 9:32think so, at least at this point, you know, but you have
- 9:35you have the opening sequence that gives you the 3333, you
- 9:39know, this many years ago he showed up.
- 9:42He was raised by whoever, you know, three years ago he showed
- 9:47up in the in the the scene now 3 minutes ago, he just had his ass
- 9:51handed to him and here we are. Boom, we're ready to jump into
- 9:56the movie. And you're, you're immediately
- 9:58jolted by the color of bright red blood staining this bright
- 10:04white pristine like landscape. And he's like he's, he's beaten.
- 10:10This is all in the trailer, so this is nothing that we're.
- 10:12Ruining No, this is not a spoiler, but it's it's it
- 10:15immediately grasp you with it. The, the color and, and the
- 10:19depth of like how far this movie is willing to go and the changes
- 10:25that this movie has like instilled in the lore of
- 10:28Superman, which is that like he, he's a bit more vulnerable.
- 10:33Yeah, I totally agree. I thought the music was done
- 10:36really well. I thought the visual was good.
- 10:38A part of me says there's a few characters that we don't need
- 10:42origin stories ever again with with they've been beaten to
- 10:45death, Superman being 1, Batman being another, Spider Man being
- 10:48another. Like they're the main three.
- 10:51I don't think we ever need an origin story forever again.
- 10:54But then this movie comes out and people are like, Superman's
- 10:58woke. This movie's woke.
- 11:00It's trying to be something it's not.
- 11:02And I go no, this is a Superman movie.
- 11:06If even going back to Superman comics, it talked about real
- 11:09world thing and inserted Superman in the things that were
- 11:12happening in real life. Superman fought Nazis.
- 11:16Superman was part of World War Two in the comics.
- 11:19Like. Superman was created by Jewish
- 11:22comic book writers in the in spite of of Nazi Germany.
- 11:28So like there's nothing woke about that and it was created.
- 11:34By Jewish writers because they wish they had a person who
- 11:36embodied what Superman was to save them to feel like they had
- 11:40someone to protect them and Superman embodies this for a
- 11:44Middle Eastern country of like no, we're not going to fight
- 11:47we're going to hold our ground and Superman will save us like
- 11:50that little kid like kind of showing the trailer of the
- 11:53little kid holding up his flag and just being like Superman
- 11:56save us that's an ode to the writers saying please Superman
- 12:00like we we wish right now in today's time we had a.
- 12:02Superman so like and and that's that is back when Superman was
- 12:06created and the parallels of and I don't know how political you
- 12:10like to get here, but you can get right right now the
- 12:14parallels to the time when this was created and right now with
- 12:22Israel and Gaza it's. And Lex Luthor making deals.
- 12:28It's it's Yeah. Well, it, it really is.
- 12:30And this movie was made a little bit before all that popped off,
- 12:35but it's been popping off for many years prior to it came to a
- 12:39head recently. But it is, it's a parallel, the
- 12:43Boravian Empire trying to invade the Jar Hampor.
- 12:49It's, it's, it is Israel, Palestine.
- 12:52That's what we can relate it to. Now.
- 12:54That's not woke. It's contemporary.
- 12:56It's, it's, it's our history. And that that is what art is.
- 13:02It's a reflection of our real experience.
- 13:05You know, I mean, it's, it's an artistic expression of that.
- 13:10So no, it's not woke. And then the slogan for a lot of
- 13:13the movie is kindness is punk rock, you know, and kindness is
- 13:17an awoke concept. It's there are unfortunately
- 13:20people of a certain political landscape that wants you to
- 13:24think that kindness is woke and it's just.
- 13:27Kindness and empathy are bad for this country.
- 13:30But they're they're they're actually a superpower.
- 13:33And, and when people who oppress others take those strengths and
- 13:39make you feel like their weaknesses were shameful, you
- 13:43lose your power. So embracing your kindness and
- 13:47your empathy and things like that, like in our real life,
- 13:50those are our superpowers. And that is what Superman truly
- 13:53represents. Hope, empathy, kindness.
- 13:57Yeah, I, I, I thought, I thought this world was fantastic.
- 14:01The tone of the setting, everything they built.
- 14:03Is it, is it the just to kind of add one more question here
- 14:07before we move on. Is it the best fortress of
- 14:09solitude we've seen on screen? Non animated?
- 14:15I'd say so. Yeah, it seems smaller, but it
- 14:18it, but I I feel like that's. Good.
- 14:20We haven't explored it because like it, it just appears.
- 14:24We get, you know, the basically we're just in the living room.
- 14:28Yeah, comic book wise, that thing's a freaking museum.
- 14:32It's massive. There's a whole zoo in that
- 14:34thing. So, yeah, I don't, I don't know.
- 14:37I don't know how big it is, but I very much, I enjoyed that.
- 14:40I enjoyed the Superman robots. Alan Todiak with with the comic
- 14:45gold of basically being I'm, I'm a robot.
- 14:48I don't have feelings. But then suggesting that you
- 14:51name him Gary is just beautifully hilarious.
- 14:56And then the star of the show is Crypto.
- 14:58Yeah. Maybe maybe crypto is good, but
- 15:01let's get into that. So let's get the cast in
- 15:02chemistry and supporting world. So David, the guy who plays I'm
- 15:06I'm not in corners with how do you say his last name?
- 15:08Corin Sweat Corin's wet. Yeah, it's like.
- 15:13Wet. His performance is rooted in
- 15:17quiet strength. He doesn't rely on grand
- 15:20monologues. He acts with his eyes, restraint
- 15:22and humility. Rachel Brosnan's Lois is the
- 15:25film's conscious, razor sharp, emotionally grounded, brave.
- 15:28She's not a damsel in distress. She's a force.
- 15:31Nicholas Holtz. Lex Luthor doesn't wear a
- 15:34villains mask, but he wears the business suit.
- 15:36He's a menace. He's intellect and he's social
- 15:39currency. It's just not it it it, it's it.
- 15:42Not just it bombs. He's, he's unbelievable.
- 15:44And the supporting cast we're, we're not just set dressing
- 15:48other people in here, but the supporting cast.
- 15:50I won't go through all the actors names 'cause I can't
- 15:51pronounce that for them. But the people who play Mr.
- 15:53Terrific, Mr. I mean, Green Lantern, Hawk Girl, Crypto, so
- 15:59many other people in this movie, Jimmy Olsen.
- 16:02I'm, I've always forget the actor's name, who plays Jimmy
- 16:06Olsen, but unbelievable. The film populates this world
- 16:10richly. We see newspaper staffers, We
- 16:13see background signs for Big Belly Burger and Jitters and
- 16:17jitter billboards referencing old comics.
- 16:19They grounded the the grounded detail makes Metropolis feel
- 16:22lived in. What's supporting our background
- 16:24detail pulled you in A side character, a signpost, or a
- 16:28small beat that felt larger than life or richer than life?
- 16:33I mean, I think I'm just going to dive into characters and how
- 16:37they moved me. Man, David Corn sweat as
- 16:42Superman. Like I I never thought that
- 16:46Christopher Reeves would be knocked out of my top running
- 16:49spot and half halfway through this movie, I'm just like, this
- 16:53dude gets it. He has the look of him.
- 16:57What's the guy who played the last one?
- 17:01Shit, I'm. Terrible.
- 17:02Henry Cavill. Henry can he has the look of
- 17:04Cavill like he has a Superman look, but I thought the tone
- 17:08that he brought was way better. Like I just I'm not a Superman
- 17:12fan. For preview, watch this.
- 17:14I am. I've always have been kind of
- 17:16like I respect Superman. Superman's like my Bret Hart.
- 17:19I understand Superman is the OG. He's the reason we have
- 17:22superheroes. He's the first written superhero
- 17:25in comic books. He is the Godfather, he is the
- 17:27daddy, he is God. But his character just never
- 17:31responded well to me and this and and and his version of
- 17:36Superman is my all. Now I haven't really went back
- 17:39and watched the original Superman just because I was so
- 17:41disconnected. I think the very first Superman
- 17:44film I ever watched was Man of Steel.
- 17:46And I, I enjoyed it. I thought it was a fine movie,
- 17:49but it wasn't like it still was exactly what it was.
- 17:52It was a Superman movie, this movie unreal.
- 17:55Like I was just like, I like this guy.
- 17:56I like their I like what they built.
- 17:58I thought Lois was fantastic. Jimmy Olsen was fantastic.
- 18:01Let's lose. I like a smaller Lex Luthor.
- 18:03I don't like the big Jack version of Lex because I like
- 18:07the idea of almost like pro wrestling where he almost plays
- 18:10the villain but manager role where he's not really going to
- 18:13lock in and fistfight, but he's going to beat you with his mind,
- 18:16his intellect and his power. And that's what kind of keeps
- 18:19Superman's restraints and because he can't just go knock
- 18:21him out, you know what I mean? But when he finally does, you're
- 18:24like, good, fuck this guy, finally got what's coming to
- 18:27him, you know what I mean? And I like the dynamic of that
- 18:29scrawny little shit that has to get his, get his.
- 18:32Own that the there's a quote at the end of the movie that I
- 18:37like. No spoilers man.
- 18:39But like when he says Brain beats Braun, it's just like, Oh
- 18:46yes, this is Lex Luthor, man, this is Lex Luthor that for me,
- 18:51he's the closest to like a Justice League Unlimited cartoon
- 18:55Lex Luthor that we've ever gotten.
- 18:57It just feels so good that like, I believe he's brilliant.
- 19:01You know, Gene Hackman and Michael Rosenbaum were probably
- 19:07my favorites before this. Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum I
- 19:10think was awesome until they ruined the story at like Season
- 19:137. He he was amazing but Nicholas
- 19:17Holt stole the show for me man. Because the reason I fell in
- 19:23love with Superman is because of Lex Luthor.
- 19:27He was such a good villain that he brought out the best in the
- 19:30hero. You know what's hilarious?
- 19:33Kind of getting political again. I remember growing up listening
- 19:36to like Howard Stern and being a giant Howard Stern fan, but also
- 19:39being a nerdy comic book guy who watched the DC animated universe
- 19:43and everything like that. And I remember like, I would
- 19:45listen to Donald Trump. And I was like, this guy's Lex
- 19:49Luthor. Like if if you know anything
- 19:53about comic books, he's Lex Luthor.
- 19:55He's the rich billionaire who is only out for himself.
- 19:58And if you give him power, he's going to abuse it.
- 20:01And then he becomes president, which is hilarious.
- 20:05Because Lex does. That in the comic books, you
- 20:08know what I'm saying? That's fair.
- 20:10I would love, I'd love to sit here and say that Donald Trump
- 20:13isn't smart, but look what he's done.
- 20:17You know what I mean? Or.
- 20:18He's just really rich and he can just, he has no checks and
- 20:21balances. I mean, there's no
- 20:23accountability. In it, it would be scary if he
- 20:25was smarter. I think that's the only thing
- 20:28going for us is he's not super intelligent.
- 20:31He's not good at hiding it. He's just good at brainwashing
- 20:35people. He's a great manipulator.
- 20:38Yeah, and he he avoids accountability, which is the
- 20:41biggest problem. Yeah, he can lie right to the
- 20:44people's face and half the world knows he's lying, and the other
- 20:46half's like blindly following it.
- 20:48Exactly. It's a scary thing.
- 20:50He's he's, he's, he almost has the the mentality of the Joker,
- 20:54but the business and the money of Lex Luthor, you know what I
- 20:58mean? Like.
- 20:59Yeah, yeah. Yeah, like he's crazy enough to
- 21:00light the money on fire in front of us, but smart enough to be
- 21:03like, I have more money, You know what I mean?
- 21:06Yeah, 100%. The ego is so incredibly
- 21:09unchecked. So then like Lois Lane again,
- 21:14Teri Hatcher was my favorite Lois Lane from the The New
- 21:18Adventures of Lois and Clark, but this girl stole it again,
- 21:23she's not over sexual. She's not sexualized at all in
- 21:26this film, but she's she is the character.
- 21:30She's perfect. If you were, you know, a Co
- 21:32worker, you'd probably have a crush on her too.
- 21:34She's just dope. She gets.
- 21:35It and she keeps him in check. She, she's not a she knowing his
- 21:39power, knowing he's Superman, but also be like, you're a
- 21:42fucking idiot. Like, I know what you're doing
- 21:44is right, but in the grand screen of the world, what you're
- 21:46doing is so illegal and wrong. Like you have to understand both
- 21:50sides of the, the coin here. You don't understand the way the
- 21:52world works because you're not from this world.
- 21:55All you know is virtue and good and what you're doing is fine,
- 21:58but there are checks and balances that you are disrupting
- 22:01that's going to cause big problems.
- 22:03And she's not afraid to put him in tone and put him in check,
- 22:06but also she's not afraid to get her hands dirty if things get
- 22:09crazy enough that she has to intervene and put herself in
- 22:11there. Which is one thing I've always
- 22:13loved about Lois Lane is that she was never afraid to get her
- 22:16hands dirty, which is why she's always needed to be saved by
- 22:20Superman in the past. But I also love that they don't
- 22:24sexualize her in the way that like past Lois Lanes have been
- 22:30like fawning over the Superman, but dismissive of the Clark.
- 22:34This one's not. She's not like, oh, Superman,
- 22:37I'm like wet for you corn sweat for you.
- 22:40Like she she is all about like she's in love with Clark because
- 22:45that because in this movie, Superman is Clark and we lean
- 22:50way more into the humanity of this person, which makes it a
- 22:54far better character than it's ever.
- 22:56Been it and there's always that there's always that underlying
- 22:59tone of Superman of like, what would make Superman turn evil,
- 23:02what would make Superman go bad? What would make Superman to be a
- 23:05menace or a problem. And it's all almost in every
- 23:07single aspect is if he doesn't have Lois.
- 23:11Lois is what keeps him grounded, keeps him sane, keeps him from.
- 23:16That's not the case here. And it sets a tone though, that
- 23:19even in one movie you find how deep and strong their connection
- 23:23is, that like if he didn't have her, he could be unchecked and
- 23:27unbalanced. Yeah, but so in this one, like
- 23:30there's the angle with his birth parents, but then it's his.
- 23:36You see that his adoptive parents are really what
- 23:40instilled this goodness in him. And then there's some turmoil
- 23:44with everything that happens with the storyline, this
- 23:46identity crisis. But you're right, Lois Lane has
- 23:49that like that world view of like, hey, look, I understand
- 23:54what you did over in that other country was morally right.
- 24:01But like in reality, things are Gray.
- 24:05You know, you you can't just choose what is right and what is
- 24:08wrong because you don't get to make that choice.
- 24:11And coming from a system of democracy, what our country is
- 24:14like, boy, would we would love if Superman existed and he went
- 24:17in and just dismantled things that are happening in the world.
- 24:20But he all we also need to respect the fact that we have a
- 24:23democracy and, and whether we like it or not, half the
- 24:26population voted for what we have right now.
- 24:28And we have to respect that. And that's a democracy.
- 24:30You can't just have someone go above the checks and balances
- 24:34and stop what's happening. When they explore that in this
- 24:37movie, which I, I have to say, for me, it's one of the two most
- 24:40powerful scenes in this entire movie, and it's very close to
- 24:44the beginning, is when you hear what Superman did and how he's
- 24:50struggling with that, like, hey, I did the right thing.
- 24:54And then she's just like, but did you, man?
- 24:58That's deep. It's so deep because we know
- 25:01morally what is right and what is just, but we are we, we, we
- 25:06just don't have that power to take it into our own hands
- 25:09because in a, in a sense, it could be viewed as wrong.
- 25:12And it's just, it is the greatest conflict of everybody.
- 25:17Imagine if you can save the world, you know the future, but
- 25:20you also know that people don't understand why you're doing it,
- 25:23what you're doing because you're doing it before it happens.
- 25:26Type 2, you know what I mean? All right, well, let's get into
- 25:28this next segment. This next segment.
- 25:30This is core themes. We're going to still avoid Major
- 25:32here, so there isn't a dissection of this.
- 25:35Your mic is going crazy. Whatever.
- 25:36You're moving. Don't do that no more.
- 25:37Yeah. So there is gonna be a section
- 25:42of this where we do dive completely in the spoilers, and
- 25:44we're gonna do this. So as of right now, you are
- 25:46safe. We're not gonna be spoiling
- 25:47anything. So this film isn't just about
- 25:51strength, it's about responsibility, trust and
- 25:53identity. Clark is an outsider who has
- 25:55learned to love humanity, not above it, but alongside of it.
- 25:59Power without empathy is dangerous.
- 26:01So gun frame Superman's greatest challenges, not only defeating
- 26:04villains, but earning the trust of the and the worry of trust.
- 26:07Earning the trust and the worry of the world.
- 26:10It touches on legacy. How can we carry forward what
- 26:14what came before? But when the artistic hands try
- 26:17to rewrite it also fear, Superman's greatest Achilles
- 26:20heel isn't physical. It's the it's that people fear
- 26:23what they can't control there. There's also a political edge
- 26:27without heavy-handed preaching, intervention versus sovereignty,
- 26:30media spin verse truth, heroism verse vigilante or overreach.
- 26:34Which one of those themes, identity, trust, legacy are
- 26:38resonate the hardest with you and why?
- 26:41I think part it has to be the vigilante aspect of it.
- 26:50There's a lot of struggles that he has in this film.
- 26:53One of them is controlling his impulsive behavior and and
- 26:59controlling his emotions. It's when something happens to
- 27:05somebody or something that he cares about, he goes off the
- 27:08handle. And that kind of stuff is used
- 27:12to manipulate him and his public image throughout the the the
- 27:17film. But there are parts of the film
- 27:19where he's in a crowded space in public and people are kind of
- 27:24like looking at him, like, oh, are you different than we
- 27:27thought you were? But he maintains like, his
- 27:30consistency, like he goes off into a building to process
- 27:34rather than processing in public, Like he maintains his
- 27:39public appearance until it's otherwise manipulated, You know,
- 27:43So I think consistency is very, very important.
- 27:49I, I relate very heavily to Superman in this movie because I
- 27:53think in certain aspects I see big picture.
- 27:56I, I have, I don't know if it's my superpower or a touch of the
- 27:59Tiz or my ADHD, but I problem 12 and I can read people very well
- 28:05and nine times on the 10, I can tell you where a situation gonna
- 28:08go before it gets there. And I'm like Superman.
- 28:11I overreach. I say, hey, that's gonna be a
- 28:13problem in six months. We should nip it in the butt
- 28:16right now. And not everybody sees it.
- 28:19And I will stick my fucking neck out to fight a situation that no
- 28:23one else sees yet. And I've had to learn to step
- 28:27back and don't play the hero until it's needed.
- 28:31And you kind of have to let people see what's going to
- 28:34happen for before you step in because overreaching and trying
- 28:38to figure the problem out before it'll arrives can be your
- 28:42detrimental. And it could be your way for
- 28:43your enemies to use that against you.
- 28:45And and it's kind of like that situation.
- 28:47It's like, all right, I'll study you and I'll figure out what
- 28:51you're going to do. And I know how to already defeat
- 28:53you, but I cannot defeat you until you actually make your
- 28:56last move. And this is a reason why the law
- 29:00itself is reactive rather than proactive, which is shitty, but
- 29:06also like, hey, I'm going to give you props.
- 29:09Yeah, you do have that ability and yes, you're always right.
- 29:12But what if? Thank.
- 29:14You What if on a Superman level you act too soon and you didn't
- 29:22have all the information? Yeah, 100%.
- 29:25Yeah, and then you become the villain who acted, you know
- 29:29what, in what you thought was the best interest, but it
- 29:31wasn't, you know? Absolutely no.
- 29:34I, I and I've, I've had to learn that myself and, and imagine and
- 29:37I, I kind of put myself in the shoes as like, thank God I don't
- 29:41have Superman's abilities because I would have, I would
- 29:44have Thanos stabbed people from the like problem by and then
- 29:48people like, why did you do that?
- 29:49You're a tyrant. I'm like, no, no, no, trust me,
- 29:52something you don't know what's going to happen in six months.
- 29:54I just saved you a lot of heartache and.
- 29:55They're like. No, you can't do that.
- 29:58You know what I mean? Like.
- 29:59Trust me, it's a minority report situation.
- 30:04I've. Doctor Strange.
- 30:05This already. I've seen every outcome.
- 30:07I'm doing the right thing. Like, no, you're not.
- 30:09You're a scumbag. All right?
- 30:10Fuck it. I'll let Iron Man die.
- 30:12But then when he dies, you're going to get mad at me.
- 30:16Enjoy when Doctor Doom happens. Which by the way, I have a weird
- 30:21theory to kind of go off into a different universe.
- 30:24Let's do it. What The Iron Man song.
- 30:28They don't ever really fully use that song or use that song as
- 30:33often as they do in the Marvel Universe, and I have a theory of
- 30:38why they don't. OK.
- 30:41They do in the very first one, but they only use the first
- 30:43couple bars. If you listen to the song Iron
- 30:46Man, it's a villain story. Yeah.
- 30:50And if you listen to the words of Iron Man, it kind of plays
- 30:53out to what possibly could be coming.
- 30:58So do you think that if if they are connected, if they are one
- 31:01in the same, do you think this was the plan from day one?
- 31:05No, I just think this is a really smart reverting.
- 31:08I I do think it's a coincidence that the OGI think Fantastic
- 31:12Four, Robert Downey wanted to be Doctor Jim in the worst way.
- 31:16So I don't know what we're we're going to see how it plays out.
- 31:19I'm very excited. All right, well, this is going
- 31:22to be our spoiler free verdict and expectations of the movie.
- 31:24And then immediately after this, we are going to I'm going to
- 31:27release the hounds and we are going to go full blown talk
- 31:30about this movie. Not seen by scene, but our
- 31:33favorite scenes. What we liked, what we possibly
- 31:35didn't like. Speaking of characters, again,
- 31:37just to kind of revert back, besides Crypto, besides everyone
- 31:41we talked about, there's one character in this movie, maybe
- 31:442. But the second character, I'd
- 31:46never really got his name and I I so I can't really dive too
- 31:50much into him, but they like amoeba looking dude from the
- 31:52jail cell. He was yeah, he was cool.
- 31:55I didn't. I didn't get his.
- 31:56Name. Yeah, one of my favorite actors
- 31:58too. He in Gotham, he was Victor Zaz.
- 32:02Oh shit, he was and he was. Also one of the Bulgarian dudes
- 32:06in the show Barry on HBO and he's been in quite a few other
- 32:12things. He's just a funny, squirrely
- 32:14little guy. But the I, I think if there's
- 32:17anyone in this movie who deserves their own movie and
- 32:20it's a character that, and I don't give a fuck who you are.
- 32:22If you if you are a deep dive superhero fan or a comic book
- 32:26guy and this is your favorite before he was played by this guy
- 32:30on screen, then good for you. But Mr. Terrific was he stole
- 32:36the fucking movie. He was so good.
- 32:40Killed it, killed it Mr. Terrific is what James Gunn did
- 32:44for the Guardians of the Galaxy in the DC, in the Marvel
- 32:46Universe, because no one knew about the Guardians.
- 32:49No one gave a fuck about the Guardians.
- 32:51They looked at the visual outlook of the Guardians and
- 32:53like a raccoon, a a green girl, a really Jack guy and a human.
- 32:57That team is going to be so stupid.
- 32:59That's Mr. Terrific. Like just the black line in the
- 33:02face, the kind of Michael motorcycle suit.
- 33:06And then you see him on screen. You're like, why is why is he
- 33:09not as popular as any other character in the DC universe?
- 33:12Yeah, the only other time we've seen him in live action was in
- 33:16the Arrow verse in Green Arrow. He was like one of his side.
- 33:21He was part of his team. And it's just like, it wasn't
- 33:23very well done. But yeah, they they created a
- 33:27star. And that's what he's doing right
- 33:29now with he's like starting almost from the beginning of
- 33:34comic books. He's creating this new version
- 33:38of the Justice Society of America, but we're calling it
- 33:41the Justice Gang, I think, so that we don't have to stick to
- 33:45the restraints of using everybody from the Justice
- 33:48Society and we can kind of pick and choose and create something
- 33:50new. And we're not obviously we're
- 33:52not using any of the heavy hitters.
- 33:54So when they finally do add the heavy hitters, you're like.
- 33:58The Justice League baby, Right? Well, Justice.
- 34:02Well, yeah. Justice League and Justice
- 34:04Society, which is like a precursor to Justice League,
- 34:07which is like your Doctor Fates Hawkman, like just that, that
- 34:12kind of ilk. The question, which is we're
- 34:15getting these kind of characters through the Peacemaker stuff,
- 34:19supposedly blue. Beetle Well, even like in the
- 34:21comics, we would have when everyone would sit around the
- 34:24table and at be at the meeting and you'd have all these heroes,
- 34:27but you're like, you really only know that four or five need to
- 34:29get the job done. The rest of them are kind of
- 34:31just just hanging out. With with the Guardians of the
- 34:36Galaxy thing. Like Peacemaker was like who the
- 34:38fuck knew who Peacemaker? Exactly another.
- 34:40Character. Now he's one of the most
- 34:42interesting characters on TV. Yeah, and and what and even like
- 34:46the when they redid Suicide Squad and he did his version of
- 34:49it, like King Shark is a is a love, but weasel, like all these
- 34:53cool characters like did such a good job.
- 34:56All right, so at its safest, this film.
- 35:00As a reminder, heroes still do matter.
- 35:02Added, which is a huge thing because right now superhero
- 35:05movies are on a decline. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is
- 35:08not hitting where where it used to be.
- 35:10But here's the thing, I think the Marvel Cinematic Universe is
- 35:14better now than it ever has been.
- 35:16But that's just my opinion because I think they're making
- 35:17movies for me as a comic book fan that are just more
- 35:20entertaining to watch. I loved Doctor Strange when Sam
- 35:24Raimi took over as director. This person took over as
- 35:26director. And I like those different
- 35:28tones, but and they right now they are kind of leaning into
- 35:31characters that people really don't care about.
- 35:33But maybe you don't have the ability of James Gunn as a
- 35:35director to make the most. I think they team larger than
- 35:38life. I think they took risks with the
- 35:41whole Miss Marvel and the Marvels 'cause that that movie
- 35:46could have been a 6th episode miniseries and I'd have been
- 35:49fine with it. It was a movie and I was like,
- 35:51oh, this is bad. Do you think the miniseries is
- 35:53ruining it too? Or you're like, maybe Loki
- 35:55should have been a movie instead of a movie series and this movie
- 35:57should have been a middle middle, like, you know what I
- 35:58mean? Like.
- 35:59I love it. I love it because it keeps the
- 36:01timeline and pacing. I get to watch these miniseries
- 36:05in between bigger movies that tie in.
- 36:08I'm totally on board with that. Just like we're doing with DC as
- 36:12we have Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker, and I'm,
- 36:18it keeps me engaged and I love it.
- 36:21Give me more content that I love.
- 36:24But I think you see the. Trailer Off topic again, but did
- 36:27you see the trailer for Welcome to Dairy?
- 36:30I I haven't watched the trailer so I this is weird but I've
- 36:34started to stop watching trailers and going into movies
- 36:38blind. Well, that's gonna be a series.
- 36:41It's gonna not gonna be a movie. It's a.
- 36:42Series. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:43But you know what character they show in the trailer?
- 36:46What is? That the old dude from The
- 36:48Shining. The black dude.
- 36:50Yeah, so he. Meets he, he's part, he's in
- 36:53dairy. He's like, he uses the shine to
- 36:56experience it. Like, so they're like kind of
- 36:59blending in the, the, the Stephen King universe and
- 37:04they're kind of doing it within dairy.
- 37:07I I heard that they wanted to do something with that character,
- 37:10like maybe give him his own show, so that makes a lot of
- 37:14sense. Yeah, it looks really good.
- 37:16All right. And where we at here?
- 37:18All right, So Adam's boldest is the blueprint for the decade for
- 37:23DC. It's not perfect, but some
- 37:25pacing stumbles, tonal shifts, but it those feel forgivable
- 37:28compared to the joy of feeling excited for DC again.
- 37:32If this is the foundation, then what comes next finally matters
- 37:35indefinitely more. On a scale of cautious optimism
- 37:39to a raving fan, where do you lie and what?
- 37:43What determines whether this reboot was successful or a
- 37:45failure? Yeah, I mean, I hate to say it,
- 37:49but I'm a raving fan. It's it's taking something I've
- 37:54already loved. And maybe it's because I didn't
- 37:58love Zack Snyder's version of Superman that I love this so
- 38:04much more. But I think in general,
- 38:06everything that the DCU is doing, I'm in love with.
- 38:09So it's, it's also me hating Henry Cavill's Superman and Zack
- 38:14Snyder's interpretation of it. But this, I don't know.
- 38:18I'm just, I'm sold. I'm sold on every aspect of
- 38:21this. I always you, you know, I'm a
- 38:23T-shirt guy and I've owned T-shirts with Superman on it,
- 38:27but never owned a Superman T-shirt.
- 38:32When I first seen the S on this Superman, I hated the look.
- 38:35I was like, that looks stupid. But now since watching the
- 38:40movie, if I'm going to wear an S on my chest, it's going to be
- 38:43this version of Superman's S and I'll actually be proud of being
- 38:46a Superman fan. I, I, I went into this very
- 38:50optimist, you know, because I'm like, man, I really want DC to
- 38:53be successful. I love DCIIII, love Marvel too.
- 38:57I'm not a I'm not a tribalist. 1's not better than the other.
- 39:00I enjoy both universes. I want DC to be as successful as
- 39:04Marvel. I want them to be rivaling
- 39:06companies where we're like, yeah, we have two amazing
- 39:09universes. I want my DCI, want my AEWI want
- 39:12my TNAI, want the same thing from my comic book universe.
- 39:15They don't have to play nice or play together.
- 39:17I just want them. But I just want them to.
- 39:20Well, then, then it comes down to the booking of like who's in
- 39:22control of the characters, who beats who, and it's a nightmare.
- 39:25But. Oh no I don't want them to verse
- 39:27each other I just want them to exist in like I would love for
- 39:32Disney in a sense to own DCI. See, I wouldn't want that.
- 39:38OK. Yeah, I, I think DC has positive
- 39:40track record of sometimes buying properties and then it loses its
- 39:43lust. And I think the, I think DC does
- 39:46things a little more artistically of like, no, we're
- 39:49going to stay true and it's not going to be the mainstream
- 39:51version. We're going to give you a, we're
- 39:52going to give you enough mainstream to get you by.
- 39:54But there's a tone to DC that I feel like would be lost.
- 39:58I'm a little scared right now because they're they are talking
- 40:00about. The people at Paramount and
- 40:04Skydance putting in a bid to buy out WB and the The rumor is that
- 40:09if they do that, they're going to can James Gunn.
- 40:13You know what scares me right now?
- 40:15That our political figures are buying properties with Saudi
- 40:20leaders. Like, dude, Trump's son-in-law
- 40:23Kushnick just bought EA Sports with the the leader of the dude
- 40:28who's all over UFC and WWE and all those guys, they just bought
- 40:32the rights to EA Sports. They they're buying up all these
- 40:36media platforms man. Like and so is like man, I hate
- 40:41bringing this up because I'm going to get shit but Israel is
- 40:46literally having like their friendly billionaires buy like
- 40:50TikTok and shit like that so that they can overtime control
- 40:54and change the narrative of their bullshit.
- 40:57And it sucks because like, imagine if all of a sudden we
- 41:00lose this form of art of comic, because comic books have always
- 41:04been that like the punk rock, the resistance, like comic books
- 41:09are, are 100% punk rock liberal shit.
- 41:12So let's say they've gotten woke is crazy.
- 41:15They've always been woke. That's that's essentially what
- 41:17comic book writers have been. Instead of being punk rock, they
- 41:20they Stan Lee and and and and Bob Kane and all these great
- 41:25writers wrote about the injustices of the world and
- 41:29people who are stronger, smarter and and have more power than we
- 41:32have to change it. Just like the X-Men.
- 41:35The X-Men is 100 about the 100% stolen from the civil rights
- 41:38movement. You know what I mean?
- 41:39Like, but yeah, it's it's crazy. All right, well, let's let's get
- 41:43into the meat and potatoes here. The spoiler version of this.
- 41:47Let let the truth be fly with sorry, the the truth behind the
- 41:52Cape. So let's dig in.
- 41:54In cryptos. In cryptos and Clark's arrival
- 41:57and the weight of the beginning of the Last Son of the Lost
- 42:00World. That's the emotional core.
- 42:03Clark intervenes during Borvia. And how do you say it again?
- 42:07Jonah who? Are we talking?
- 42:09About the the Borvia and Jonipur, right?
- 42:13Joe Hampour and Boravia. Yeah, he he, he intervenes
- 42:17during that conflict. The ACT becomes the the film
- 42:20spark. It's it is Superman a hero or a
- 42:23foreign agent? Lex Luthor implies the amplifies
- 42:26the panic. Not just as a mad scientist.
- 42:29He's a manipulator, twisting evidence, encouraging government
- 42:32backlash, building distrust. Ultraman's real is a is a real
- 42:37savage, a mirror to Clark's ideals.
- 42:39His his turned monstrous. Their duel is as much physical
- 42:43as physiological as it is physical.
- 42:46When Clark is broken, crypto becomes central.
- 42:48He rescues Clark from Dune and drags him to the fortress.
- 42:51There, in the solitude, Clark confronts a purpose of guilt and
- 42:55identity that is reckoning with a more powerful than any punch.
- 42:58Finally, Superman returns not just a fight, but to restore.
- 43:01He unmatched Luther's lies. He reframes the public opinion
- 43:05and not only wins by his strength but his conviction.
- 43:08Do you feel? Do you feel the emotional arc
- 43:12from hope to despair to resolve was satisfying?
- 43:15Which turn hit you the hardest? So right now we can just open up
- 43:18the floodgates, talk about our favorite parts of the movie.
- 43:21Spoilers are going to fill this section.
- 43:25OK, I got to build up to what turns hit me the hardest, but I
- 43:30will just go through like my 3 or 4 key scenes in the movie,
- 43:35which are when inner Lois gets to interview Superman for the
- 43:40first time. And that is one of the most
- 43:43intense interviews you've ever watched.
- 43:46It's uncomfortable, it's hilarious.
- 43:49But then you you get to see the humanity and the turmoil within
- 43:53Clark and Superman for the first time ever.
- 43:57Like him questioning like, did I did the right thing?
- 44:01He's trying to stand up for himself.
- 44:02I did the right thing. And then Lois is like, but did
- 44:05you you know, I know that you did, but not everybody will.
- 44:10And like, you just can't do that.
- 44:12I can hear my dog snoring. So that is that is my favorite
- 44:19scene in this movie. It's just it's so powerful.
- 44:23It reminds me of and I'm going to put somebody over his name is
- 44:27Max Landis. Are you familiar with Max
- 44:29Landis? He does this video on pro
- 44:34wrestling that you'll love. He basically tells the story of
- 44:37how the story of WWE is the story of Triple H and it's one
- 44:42of the best videos ever. But he also has this he writes
- 44:47comic books, he's a writer, he's a director.
- 44:50But on YouTube he has this thing he calls the Kryptonian epic.
- 44:54And what he does really, really well is he writes and performs
- 44:58Superman from a human aspect. And it's that's what James Gunn
- 45:04did. And that's that's why it's so
- 45:06powerful. So then the other scene that
- 45:12really gets me is when the kids in Johanpour are about to be
- 45:17invaded by the Baravians and they pull up the the stick with
- 45:23a Superman logo. On it they come, completely
- 45:26unarmed. Yeah, I, I, dude, I'm not going
- 45:29to lie to you. I, I freaking cried.
- 45:31They like, it's a powerful moment and there is something
- 45:34about what's happening in the world right now that it keeps me
- 45:40off of social media. But at the same time, I can't, I
- 45:43can't stop looking because it, it hurts to watch other people
- 45:47hurt while I get to live and thrive and survive.
- 45:51So that, that moment, it just hit so hard.
- 45:54And I think it's a beautiful scene.
- 45:56And then the obviously the scene where the dog is kidnapped and
- 46:02then he bursts into Lex's office and it's like, where's the dog?
- 46:08You're just like, God, I relate to that.
- 46:10Like, what if that was my dog? I'd do the same thing.
- 46:14Superman turned into John Wick. Right, exactly.
- 46:18And it's just, it's such a human moment that you're like, I get
- 46:21it, but then you realize he's being filmed.
- 46:27You're taking my emotional reaction and you're turning it
- 46:31against me. And you and I have both been in
- 46:33these positions and it fucking sucks.
- 46:36So like, I relate to Superman even more now, which is
- 46:39something I just never was able to do because he's such a Boy
- 46:42Scout and he's just, he's not that he's he's kind and he's
- 46:47moral in this, but he's not a freaking Boy Scout in this
- 46:49movie. Yeah, I love the fact that he he
- 46:52he has the ability to be a look at me, look at me character and
- 46:56and I'm just going to beat you with complete strength and
- 46:59destruction and and goodwill. But he I I love how he just
- 47:02takes a step back and he has to learn in this movie too, of
- 47:05like, I have to be more reactive than proactive.
- 47:09He's literally being held in a prison cell with a man holding
- 47:12kryptonite and never once pleaded or begged for his life.
- 47:16He just showed humanity in, in what little strength he had
- 47:19left. He was like, the guy was just
- 47:22like, you should have given up, you should have tapped out, you
- 47:25should be dead and won this man over.
- 47:29I'm just showing his resilience and his good hearted nature like
- 47:33he's completely, there's there's no chance he's going to come out
- 47:35of this and win. There's no, there's nothing at
- 47:38this point in time. All his help that's supposed to
- 47:41come and save him. They don't even get a chance to
- 47:43save him because he wins this man over and says, well, what do
- 47:48I like? He just gives up.
- 47:49He's like, no, no, no. You're you can help us here.
- 47:51You know what I mean? Like this guy just breaks.
- 47:54He says he breaks watching Superman not break.
- 47:57And I thought that was really powerful.
- 47:58We're in the spoiler. Yeah, Yeah.
- 48:02You can talk about anything. OK, so in that moment, you're
- 48:04talking about Lex has a gun to a food merchant's head that has
- 48:10just talked to Superman once and showed kindness to Superman,
- 48:15right? And Super, he's he's telling
- 48:18Superman like, hey, don't give into this.
- 48:20Like, I would die for you. And Superman can't answer the
- 48:24questions that Lex Luthor is trying to get out of him because
- 48:28he's going to kill people he loves.
- 48:31And it's just, it's so intense for a Superman movie and it's
- 48:36just, and that is the moment that one over Metamorpho and
- 48:39changed that whole trajectory. Yeah, the the, the, the, the
- 48:45just the city building when the when the when the rift is
- 48:47tearing apart Metropolis. Good visual, trying to think
- 48:52Ultraman who then turns into who you know finding out is
- 48:55essentially a Superman clone. Which normally when they go that
- 48:59route I hate it. Like when they did it with
- 49:02Wolverine, when Wolverine had to fight Wolverine, I was like this
- 49:05sucks. Yeah, this was but.
- 49:08I will also we're going to kind of talk about this in a in
- 49:11another segment, but like, I think that becomes bizarro.
- 49:16I, I, I, there's no doubt in my brain that that eventually once
- 49:20he gets sucked into that black hole and he asks, he ends up
- 49:23wherever he ends up, He's not going to die.
- 49:25He's Superman. He's not going to die in a black
- 49:26hole. He's going to find a way to
- 49:28thrive and live and like, will it do damage to him 100%?
- 49:34Will he not come out the same way he went in?
- 49:36Probably, but he's not going to die.
- 49:39But like the like the whole idea of him saying almost like a
- 49:43chess move where Lex is like a 35B15 and he's bingo carding and
- 49:49studying Superman and using him as a pawn to fight for him.
- 49:53And then he learns, oh, I just got to destroy the box.
- 49:57I just got to stop him from hearing the commands.
- 50:00And this dude's trash. He's not smart, he's kind of an
- 50:03idiot. And once he has no direction, I
- 50:06can beat the shit out of him. It would, it would, it would.
- 50:09That was the cleverness of a superhero hero movie and a comic
- 50:13book of like, oh, I found the weakness.
- 50:15And when that hits in that movie, you're like, it's so
- 50:18simple and it's right there and it's good booking.
- 50:21It's it was done so well. And I was just like, I love
- 50:23that. That's a great.
- 50:24Way. To defeat your end, I wish more
- 50:27wrestling matches in just that aspect of like.
- 50:31And here's a, here's a spoiler alert when we get back into
- 50:34this, that's a, that's a thing I really want to sit down with a
- 50:38maybe I shouldn't say this in public, but I, I, I would love
- 50:40to sit down with a wrestling roster.
- 50:42You'll be like, listen, I already know you guys have your
- 50:44characters, but legitimately I want you to come up with a
- 50:46character sheet. I want to know your strengths.
- 50:47And I, and, and you have to write a weakness and I want to
- 50:51play. I don't want to tell the
- 50:52audience what your weakness is, but I want you as wrestlers to
- 50:55show me what that weakness is and then let your opponent beat
- 50:59you in the like that that storytelling within the ring is
- 51:02beautiful. So when the fans sit there and
- 51:04go, Oh my God, he has a bad knee.
- 51:06He just found a way to beat this, this monster.
- 51:08You know what I mean? Like not enough people do that
- 51:10aspect in storytelling. And I think Superman in such a
- 51:13simple aspect of just like take away his communication, you got
- 51:17him beat. We're writing stories based off
- 51:20characters rather than writing stories.
- 51:22Take away the urn from the Undertaker and he's not an
- 51:24indestructible monster. Right, exactly.
- 51:27Like that one thing that brings the character this super than
- 51:31larger than life unbeatable monster to now an evil in
- 51:34playing field. And I thought that part of the
- 51:36movie was terrific. Jimmy Olsen and and Lois Lane
- 51:40discovering, doing their detective work and figuring out
- 51:44how they can save the day as just normal people in a world of
- 51:47metahumans I thought was beautiful.
- 51:49That like, even in a world full of superheroes and superpowers
- 51:52and things that you can't do, you can still fight with
- 51:55morality and humanity and, and smart and, and still enter a
- 52:00world of superheroes and, and hang.
- 52:01I thought that was really, really smart and, and just to
- 52:06kind of, for me, the very end when Superman's hanging out in
- 52:10the Fortress of Solitude and Supergirl walks in and asks for
- 52:13her dog, I lost my mind. I was like, she's here.
- 52:17Like, like, like it adds a whole other.
- 52:20It adds a whole. And the whole time they never
- 52:22talk about it. They never like there's a lot of
- 52:24hints to other things that are part of this world, but James is
- 52:28like, we're just not ready to tell you about it yet.
- 52:30But it's it sums here because this isn't a brand new world.
- 52:33This, this world has already lived in this world.
- 52:35Superman's not day one Superman. We've we've experienced Superman
- 52:39and I'm just like, oh, this opens the door to so much and we
- 52:42don't have to play catch up all the time.
- 52:44Like just the way that he can put us into a world that it's
- 52:47already lived in. So good.
- 52:50It also gives like the why Superman so annoyed by crypto,
- 52:55but also like, yeah, I kind of got to go get this dog.
- 52:59So every time I portray Crypto, he's very smart, he's a very
- 53:02well trained dog. He knows what he's this crypto's
- 53:04a dickhead, he's an idiot, he's a puppy like.
- 53:08He's literally this dog laying next to me, just an asshole.
- 53:11But like you love him and that like Superman not having to be
- 53:16like the forefront and spotlight the whole time that you.
- 53:19You mentioned that and it made me think of the scene where the
- 53:22justice gangs outside the window fighting the interdimensional
- 53:26Imp and he's just. Like which is who, Who, who, who
- 53:29possibly is that? I don't know Mr. Mr. Spiglik or
- 53:32whatever, maybe. Like, yeah, that's, that's my
- 53:35thought. Yeah.
- 53:35It has to be him. Could be.
- 53:37Which is another, which also means we can have Batmite on
- 53:41screen. Can you imagine?
- 53:43I thought we, yeah, I thought we were going to get it in one of
- 53:46the episodes of Peacemaker. We didn't, though.
- 53:48Oh shit. I.
- 53:49Didn't get that far. I can't wait to watch it.
- 53:52But in that scene, like, it was such a deep scene and all this
- 53:55crazy stuff is going on outside. But when he talks about the dog,
- 53:59he's just like, he's he's out there, he's alone and he's
- 54:04probably scared. I know what that's like.
- 54:07Fuck, yeah. So do I.
- 54:10Like you can not love this guy. Because I don't like when they,
- 54:15when they reckoned crypto in the Superman as like, it's
- 54:19Superman's dog and he just jumps into the portal and jumps into
- 54:23the thing. And then like you're like, well,
- 54:24then then Crypto and Superman would always be together.
- 54:27And I, I kind of like the fact that no crypto came with
- 54:29Supergirl. Like that's been her pet.
- 54:31You know what I mean? Like when they did that, I
- 54:33thought that was a really good nod.
- 54:36Mr. Terrific's fight scene where he has his orbs and he has Lois,
- 54:39like so good, Unreal, such a good fight scene.
- 54:42It was so bad ass. I love when he like just
- 54:45casually grabs the orb and like floats over the Dome.
- 54:50It's just so beautifully done. It's like a one shot, which is
- 54:53very much the fight style from the movie The Kingsman.
- 54:58Which I have yet to see, but I cannot wait to Yeah, that's I I
- 55:01have to watch it. Or even his orbs where Crypto
- 55:04thinks it's a toy. Like that's fucking hilarious.
- 55:08It's so good, you know, crypto is so good in this one.
- 55:12Yes, and it's James Gunn's dog, by the way.
- 55:15Is it really? Yeah, and it's like a he's like
- 55:17a grey dog and he literally just modeled Crypto after his dog and
- 55:23it's all CGI, but it's it's his dog.
- 55:25It's awesome. Yeah, was it?
- 55:27Was that James Gunn's brother in Lex's base with a mustache?
- 55:34I don't believe so. I think it's his brother plays,
- 55:40not Ted Kord, who's the the guy who owns the Justice Gang, their
- 55:45benefactor. That's James Gunn's brother.
- 55:47Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 55:48You're right. Yeah.
- 55:49I would say the only characters who like she didn't have enough
- 55:52Hawk Girl and, and and I didn't, I mean, I I probably didn't like
- 55:57him because it's not the version of the character that I want.
- 55:59And I'm probably being selfish, but like Green Lantern didn't
- 56:01hit for me. But he did a great job playing
- 56:03that character of the asshole. But you're kind of like just
- 56:05just give me like, I just want. So we're getting them.
- 56:10We we are getting them. But like, when it comes to that,
- 56:13Green Lantern nailed it. Nailed it.
- 56:16He's an asshole, he's a Dick. He's very self-centered.
- 56:20But then it, it makes room for the Lantern movie, which is, I
- 56:25feel like it's going to be very much like a detective movie,
- 56:28like True Detectives. But Green Lantern, we're we're
- 56:31getting Jon Stewart and we're getting Hal Jordan and we might
- 56:36get Kyle Rayner, which or oh, and I think it's rumored to be
- 56:40that they're investigating the death of Green Lantern Alan
- 56:43Scott, which is the first, I think openly gay, like comic
- 56:47book hero. Yeah, All right, well, let's get
- 56:50into Easter eggs, hidden details and DCU seeds.
- 56:53So gun dodges, Easter eggs, traps, so many references they
- 56:58distract, but he likes to sprinkle them in thoughtfully.
- 57:01So some, some, some of the ones that you know, I caught or some
- 57:04other people caught, but not all of them I do.
- 57:05We we talked about Mr. Mix Plex possibly being the imp in that
- 57:09one scene, but in the DC Studios intro shows Superman breaking
- 57:13the chains, which is a nod to Superman #1 The conflict
- 57:18locations, I'm not going to try to say them again 'cause I'll
- 57:21butcher them, are ancient comic geography.
- 57:23Character like that was kind of already used in DC Comics, which
- 57:26was a kind of a cool nod. Lord Tech hints heavily at
- 57:29Maxwell Lord's future role. That's Maxwell Lord.
- 57:33That's James Gunn's brother. Yeah, a street sign reading
- 57:37Gotham City 5 miles confirms Batman's world overlap, so it it
- 57:42does show us that Gotham is in the timeline.
- 57:45Yep. So Metropolis is in Delaware and
- 57:49Gotham is in New Jersey. Yeah, I always kind of looked at
- 57:54it as New York is kind of like if kind of you took a couple
- 57:59states out and just separated them by the Great Lakes and, and
- 58:02Chicago is kind of where Minnesota would be and Michigan.
- 58:06And then Detroit is kind of where New York would because
- 58:08like that's they're separated by like a small body of water, but
- 58:13they're not too far of a distance from one another.
- 58:16Yep, Will Reeves cameo was pretty cool.
- 58:22Who was this? Will Reeves cameo the emotional
- 58:24legacy? No, I did not even recognize
- 58:27that. Let me see.
- 58:32I'll tell you right now exactly what scene it was in.
- 58:37He's a he's, he's a reporter in the movie.
- 58:40OK, cool. Yeah, it was a tribute to his
- 58:42father who famously played in the movie.
- 58:44So he plays one of the reporters in in, in, during, I think like
- 58:50when they cut to like a a camera craw scene.
- 58:53He he was in it. The Robot The Fortress robots
- 58:56are voiced by Guns, usual collaborators.
- 58:59Alan Tudic. And and and and Roker.
- 59:01Roker the final frames of Cara Zarrell reclaims crypto planting
- 59:06the Supergirl seeds was unbelievable.
- 59:09The the the mural in the Justice Gang's headquarters features
- 59:12Wildcat, Liberty Bell and Zantra, which possibly members
- 59:15of the Justice Society. I thought that was kind of cool.
- 59:19Lexus copy of A Better World, a classic Lexus motif there nod to
- 59:25Belle Reeve, the infamous DC prison.
- 59:29These aren't distractions. They're pledges to lore, to
- 59:31legacy, and they connect the universe.
- 59:33Which hidden details did I not say that were for you, that were
- 59:36big? And how do you how soon do you
- 59:38think they'll pay off? Man, hidden details I feel like
- 59:43you pretty much nailed most of. Them bizarro.
- 59:45I still think that's bizarro. I didn't put.
- 59:47That one in there. But yeah, Oh yeah, sure.
- 59:48Fan theory wise, that's got to be bizarro.
- 59:51So the only thing that I don't take for that is that Ultraman
- 59:56is the are you familiar with the crime syndicate?
- 1:00:00So the crime syndicate is Earth 3.
- 1:00:03It's the Justice League is like a mafia and the leader of the
- 1:00:07mafia is Superman, but his name is Ultraman.
- 1:00:12And it's it's such a cool. It's so cool.
- 1:00:15Batman, there is Owl Man. By the way, I.
- 1:00:17Do what you're talking about now, yeah.
- 1:00:20So I don't love that they use the name Ultraman, which makes
- 1:00:27me feel like if he's bizarro then we may never see the Crime
- 1:00:30Syndicate and that that would hurt my feelings.
- 1:00:34But I very cool. I do think that's bizarro
- 1:00:37because of him being so dumb and cast out into the void.
- 1:00:42Probably the lack of sun, the lack of oxygen, the lack of
- 1:00:45whatever the heck is going to turn him into the zombified
- 1:00:47idiot Superman. Do you think that's him talking
- 1:00:51when he's? It is so when he's the Hammer of
- 1:00:54Boravia, it's David Cornslet. He has this like embellished
- 1:00:58accent and everything that is him talking.
- 1:01:00I didn't know if that was him talking or if that was Lex using
- 1:01:03a voice changer and talking through the soup.
- 1:01:05That's what that's what I initially thought.
- 1:01:07I was watching some behind the scenes stuff.
- 1:01:09It is David doing that and it was really cool.
- 1:01:12Yeah. All right, so some let's get to
- 1:01:16our another segment here, fan theories and wild speculation.
- 1:01:19So fans are doing the math and here are some few theories on
- 1:01:21the Internet right now that are getting some traction. 2 Thor
- 1:01:24for president that subtle book make you may not be random.
- 1:01:29So maybe Lex kind of here's the thing too.
- 1:01:32You think to yourself, well, how does he get caught?
- 1:01:35Shown to the entire world he's a fraud and a cheat and a scumbag
- 1:01:40and he only cares about himself but still become the president
- 1:01:43and. I want to sit here and be like,
- 1:01:49yeah, that wouldn't happen. It's happened.
- 1:01:52Dude, and here's the thing. When when, if you thought the
- 1:01:54Lex story and Superman story is good, when when Lex becomes the
- 1:01:58president in the DC Universe that where Superman just wants
- 1:02:02to punch a hole through his face, but he can't and he has to
- 1:02:05shake his hand and he has to be diplomatic because he has
- 1:02:08learned if he's not diplomatic that the like he he's
- 1:02:12essentially playing into. Lex, if we're if we're looking
- 1:02:16at that fan theory, here's how I think we get there right.
- 1:02:19Lex Luthor and Superman have to work together in The Man of
- 1:02:22Tomorrow, like that reluctant buddy cop movie.
- 1:02:27Publicly, Lex Luthor is going to find a way to take all the
- 1:02:31glory, which is going to make him perceived as a hero who has
- 1:02:35redeemed himself. That gets him to the presidency.
- 1:02:38Yeah, that that makes sense. Well, there's the whole theory
- 1:02:41that why they would have to work together coming up here in a
- 1:02:43moment. Ultraman bizarro DNA experiments
- 1:02:46may lead to A twist in Superman's clone in the sequel.
- 1:02:48Conor Kent. Yeah, the Justice Society origin
- 1:02:52the The Hero mural may lead to the team's team of legacy
- 1:02:56heroes. Maxwell Lord as an ultimate
- 1:02:58puppeteer. His name and text shows up.
- 1:03:01Maybe he ties all the all the villain arcs together.
- 1:03:04Kara's role and the cosmic arc her her arrival opens the door
- 1:03:09to space politics, Green Lantern and Crypto lore.
- 1:03:13During the mid credits scenes there's another tease that some
- 1:03:18people have picked up on and have not picked up on.
- 1:03:22There are some cryptic data pulses in the mid credit scenes
- 1:03:25suggesting a future invader which may be Brainiac.
- 1:03:31I did not know that. Yeah.
- 1:03:33So I guess during the mid credit scenes you see like distortions
- 1:03:36are in like you know what I mean?
- 1:03:39I did not catch that until I read this when I went back and
- 1:03:41looked. Multiverse is looming hints and
- 1:03:44dialogue camera flares suggest that alternate worlds may be
- 1:03:47merged down the line. And I believe that is then
- 1:03:50talked about in Peacemaker as well, right?
- 1:03:54In in a sense, in Peacemaker, you feel like you're going to
- 1:03:58explain, explore a bunch of alternate universes that we
- 1:04:01ultimately don't, even though they do play into the greater
- 1:04:07story of what will be the DCU, at least one other universal
- 1:04:11play into it. Yeah, and then we talked about
- 1:04:14the DC movie and then the DC reboot.
- 1:04:18Here's just some of the DC road map and franchise's vision
- 1:04:23according to, you know, Internet and what we do know, but that
- 1:04:27this film is a launchpad for guns grand design.
- 1:04:29And then here's some other ones that include some may already be
- 1:04:32out as well. So you can go check them out as
- 1:04:34like this one Creature Commandos, which is an anime
- 1:04:37animated series, a Canon to the film.
- 1:04:40So this animated series is Canon to the DC universe which is
- 1:04:45interesting. Will they get live action
- 1:04:46versions? Who knows.
- 1:04:48Supergirl Woman of tomorrow 2026 Well is a movie that's already
- 1:04:53slated. Lanterns 2026 cosmic detective
- 1:04:57drama The This is the one I'm excited for The Brave and the
- 1:05:01Bold, which is going to be bringing Batman into this
- 1:05:06universe. But not just Batman, and not
- 1:05:09just Robin, but fucking Damian Wayne.
- 1:05:12We're going to get Damian Wayne on screen.
- 1:05:15That's been confirmed. Yes, nice, the brave and the
- 1:05:18bold. And if you notice in the very
- 1:05:20beginning too, the tagline is kind of monsters and Gods and
- 1:05:25monsters was used in the fucking tagline at the very beginning of
- 1:05:28the movie. Waller, a political intrigue and
- 1:05:31secret wars type thing where I guess Amanda Waller will get her
- 1:05:35own movie. The Authority 2027, an antihero
- 1:05:38ensemble. Peacemaker Season 2, which is
- 1:05:40out now, but it's a direct lead in to the Man of Tomorrow,
- 1:05:43Superman, Man of Tomorrow 2027, Clark versus Lex continues.
- 1:05:49And then the one I'm super excited for that's going to be
- 1:05:51kind of a they're already caught talking about more of a horror
- 1:05:55movie style movie. There's 2 horror movies actually
- 1:05:57coming. Clayface is coming where that's
- 1:06:00going to be like a body horror, which I fucking love Clayface.
- 1:06:03So the fact that he's getting movies really exciting.
- 1:06:05I'm curious though, is Clayface going to be part of the
- 1:06:10Elseworlds like Pattinson universe or is it part of the
- 1:06:14DCU? Because we've already seen
- 1:06:18Clayface in creature commandos, so I'm curious as to where this
- 1:06:23will lie. So there's rumors that James
- 1:06:26Gunn is not against Pattinson being this Superman, the like
- 1:06:31the this Batman for this universe.
- 1:06:34Like I think, I think he thinks that like what that universe has
- 1:06:37already created with cobble pot and and Batman and everything
- 1:06:41that's happening there. He's like, I, I can make that
- 1:06:43fit into my world. I I kind of want.
- 1:06:45To see what's. I I don't mind Robert Pattinson
- 1:06:48being our Batman. I thought he did a great job.
- 1:06:50I'm. All for it.
- 1:06:52But then the last one here I have written down Swamp Thing
- 1:06:55Paradise Lost, a grounding supernatural mythic underpinning
- 1:07:00movie which the the Swamp Thing TV show was fucking awesome.
- 1:07:05But it costs a lot of money to make and not a lot of people
- 1:07:08watched it. So that makes me kind of nervous
- 1:07:11because that Swamp Thing show was awesome.
- 1:07:14James Gunn has this knack for taking characters at people on a
- 1:07:18mass don't give a shit about and make you love them again.
- 1:07:22Look at Peacemaker. Yeah, each project is designed
- 1:07:26to interlock, not as a forced crossover, but a being natural
- 1:07:29ripples in a single pond. Do you think guns plan multiple
- 1:07:33genres under one DC universe is sustainable?
- 1:07:36Or is DC opening itself up for total whiplash again?
- 1:07:40Nope. I think it's possible because
- 1:07:41there's multiple different styles and stories that you can
- 1:07:45tell and the way that he's setting them up is where
- 1:07:49everything can be its own peace and tone, but ultimately can
- 1:07:54lead to the same places. And I, and I think once
- 1:07:59everything's together, kind of like I feel like they might be
- 1:08:03setting up a Marvel Battle world type scenario that will have its
- 1:08:10own specific tone that meshes everything else together well.
- 1:08:14I think the Marvel Universe kind of spoiled the audience with
- 1:08:17with with kind of bringing all the characters together.
- 1:08:20It was awesome to see in Avengers movies when you do need
- 1:08:23them to be together. But then they also need to teach
- 1:08:25the audience of like, hey, Superman helps Metropolis, but
- 1:08:30he's also a character who's global.
- 1:08:32He can go around the world and for the most part, he's going to
- 1:08:35stay central to Earth and Metropolis.
- 1:08:39Batman is doing his thing in Gotham.
- 1:08:41This Green Arrow is doing his thing here.
- 1:08:43Like everyone's kind of designated to their own spot
- 1:08:47where where Marvel kind of gets a little hairy is like these
- 1:08:50heroes are kind of designed to just one section of the city.
- 1:08:53Like, oh, you have Manhattan, I have this, you have that, which
- 1:08:56kind of maybe diminishes their powers a little bit because like
- 1:08:59they're getting their asses handed the Metropolis and like
- 1:09:01the guy's 5 minutes away and he won't come help, you know what I
- 1:09:04mean? But.
- 1:09:05Yeah, exactly. It's very confusing.
- 1:09:07Yeah, so I think the I think DC needs to understand and teach
- 1:09:11the audience that like Superman solo is Metropolis, but global
- 1:09:16Batman to himself is, is is centralized, this person
- 1:09:19centralized. But when you need the Justice
- 1:09:22League to get together for an interdimensional battle or a, a,
- 1:09:25a, a, a space battle, that's when these teams then come
- 1:09:29together. I think a perfect way to explain
- 1:09:31that is the scene that we already talked about when the
- 1:09:35Justice gang is fighting the amp and Superman's.
- 1:09:37Like, they don't, they don't need me for this.
- 1:09:39Yeah, I'm here, but they don't need me.
- 1:09:41Yeah, I don't need to come in and just wreck ship.
- 1:09:44Like, yeah, I can come in and snap my fingers and this fight's
- 1:09:48over. Yeah.
- 1:09:52Any other movies that I didn't list that you were excited for?
- 1:09:55I don't know if it's a movie. I think it's ATV show.
- 1:09:58It is the Booster Gold series that's supposed to happen.
- 1:10:04People are thinking it's that one Indian guy.
- 1:10:08He was in that movie with Batista where he was the UV Uber
- 1:10:11driver, can't remember his name. People are thinking that's who's
- 1:10:15going to be cast. But I think the perfect casting
- 1:10:18is who people think is going to be Batman, which is Alan
- 1:10:22Rickson. He was Thad Castle in Blue
- 1:10:26Mountain State. He was Dove Man in the Teen
- 1:10:29Titans TV series, so I'm very excited for that.
- 1:10:35Booster Gold is, if you don't know who he is, he's this failed
- 1:10:39football player from the future who has a device that travels
- 1:10:44him only backwards through time. Got you.
- 1:10:47And it's awesome. So that that's I'm excited for
- 1:10:50that. I think Blue Beetle is another
- 1:10:52project that they're doing. Don't know if that's going to be
- 1:10:55a movie or show. I think Blue Beetle will be ATV
- 1:10:58show. Yeah, that makes the most sense.
- 1:11:01Yeah, Booster Gold is looking that it will.
- 1:11:03It'll be a possibly a movie. Yeah, which is fine that it'll
- 1:11:08be a fun movie if it is. But you know what I don't?
- 1:11:12Want to see ever again and I hope the last movie ends it.
- 1:11:17I don't want to see any more fucking jokers after that last
- 1:11:20piece of shit. I know you liked it, but God
- 1:11:22damn it I don't want to see any. More of that of that series or
- 1:11:27Jokers period as a character. Just I I don't give me anymore
- 1:11:31Joaquin Phoenix Joker. I don't want anymore.
- 1:11:34That's. Fine that last.
- 1:11:35Movie was such a disappointment. Well, because you here's the
- 1:11:39thing. You had expectations for it.
- 1:11:43Yeah, here's a problem. The guy made a great first movie
- 1:11:46and then once again got into fucking conflict where he hated
- 1:11:50what he created because he had a vision of what he wanted to go
- 1:11:54and the directors and the producers and the other people
- 1:11:57had a vision. So he killed his own character
- 1:11:59in the second movie and it ruined it.
- 1:12:01Man, yeah, I disagree. I agree.
- 1:12:04But I think he turned that concept into the whole art of
- 1:12:08the story and the characterization of it.
- 1:12:10And I loved it. But that's nobody agrees with me
- 1:12:13on that, so I'm OK with that. Yeah, I hate it.
- 1:12:16It's. So I'm OK that people hate it.
- 1:12:18I listen, Lady Gaga on screen is Harley.
- 1:12:20Give me that. Joaquin Phoenix after the first
- 1:12:23thing, give me that. And then I'm watching.
- 1:12:24I'm like, can this be over? I, I need this to be over.
- 1:12:30Yeah. And then our last, our last
- 1:12:34segment here, legacy, impact and final thoughts.
- 1:12:37Superman 2025 ends not with a bang, but with a promise.
- 1:12:41A promise that better stories can be made.
- 1:12:44It gives us a hero who doesn't rule but serves, doesn't lecture
- 1:12:48but inspires. It gives us hope that the DC can
- 1:12:50build a universe rooted in heart, not just a spectacle.
- 1:12:54And you, the listener, It's your first chapter in a new era, and
- 1:12:58this timeline, this Cape, feels weight, weighty again.
- 1:13:02What will it take in the next two or three movies for you to
- 1:13:06really believe this reboot has truly worked?
- 1:13:12Just continued momentum, continuity, everything that's
- 1:13:20trying to be woven together needs to be like woven together.
- 1:13:23Florida State. And I want the characters to be
- 1:13:27flexible. I want to see Lex Luthor have
- 1:13:32range in this next movie. I want you to, I want you to
- 1:13:36think that he's Loki in the in the what was it, The Dark World
- 1:13:41where we're like, oh shit, Do we like Loki now?
- 1:13:45Nope. He's still a Dick.
- 1:13:46Yeah, you know, and that's, that's what I want.
- 1:13:49I'm kind for me, and it sucks that you have to bank on it
- 1:13:53because but you definitely need to, especially in this day and
- 1:13:56age is you need people's buzz, people who's seen Superman like
- 1:14:00Superman. But then there's a lot of people
- 1:14:02who didn't and and and say this movie was trash and they
- 1:14:05couldn't stand it. There was nothing.
- 1:14:08Yeah, there there's, there's people who that, you know, like
- 1:14:13it didn't get the buzz of like, Oh my God, at the very end
- 1:14:16Supergirl shows up. Like I thought that'd be bigger
- 1:14:18talking point even like Peacemaker 2, like the people
- 1:14:24who are into it are talking about it and they're like, yo,
- 1:14:26you should watch it. It was really exciting, but it
- 1:14:28didn't get that big buzz yet. Like when a Marvel movie drops
- 1:14:32and I was like, you need to go to the theaters and you go to
- 1:14:34end game or you go to Avengers movie and the theaters are
- 1:14:37packed. We need that to happen because
- 1:14:40it's it if it's not making money and it's not generating buzz and
- 1:14:43it's not generating people's interest, it's going to die
- 1:14:46again. And it seems like a lot of
- 1:14:47people they they need to win the the public eye of.
- 1:14:51The. DC Universe again, and that's
- 1:14:53what the biggest thing that needs to happen.
- 1:14:55The biggest problem is that there's a lot of art in what's
- 1:14:58happening here. The way James Gunn presents
- 1:15:01things like, not a spoiler here, but the season finale of
- 1:15:07Peacemaker Season 2 versus the hype that James Gunn tried to
- 1:15:12give it fucked it up. It fucked it up because the the
- 1:15:18finale was a beautiful piece of art, but everybody that watched
- 1:15:22it was like, this is trash. This wasn't what I expected.
- 1:15:26Everybody wanted that fanservice finale and they just they didn't
- 1:15:31get it. It was a beautiful piece of art.
- 1:15:33And so I think the problem is weapons.
- 1:15:37That movie didn't get enough buzz, but it was amazing.
- 1:15:43And we have to be able to encourage people to go to the
- 1:15:48theater and watch movies that are original and creative.
- 1:15:54And I don't know, like just aren't those typical formulas
- 1:16:01and algorithms or else we're just going to get stuck in just
- 1:16:05the same. We get pumped out over and over.
- 1:16:08And it's just we need art. And this movie was very artful.
- 1:16:12It was very political. It wasn't the political wokeness
- 1:16:15that everybody said it was. This movie was not about fucking
- 1:16:18immigration. It was about a greater worldview
- 1:16:23and and kindness. So yeah, that's my thing, man.
- 1:16:27I just I people need to value the art that is being presented
- 1:16:33to them for what it is. We need to stop putting
- 1:16:37expectations on films. I love doing fan theories as
- 1:16:42much as the next person, but doing fan theories is what
- 1:16:46ruined The Last Jedi for me. That movie sucked, let's be
- 1:16:49honest, but I. Wanda Vision was the one that
- 1:16:53everyone had an ending for and didn't get what they wanted and
- 1:16:55they thought it all sucked. And I thought Wanda Vision was
- 1:16:57excellent. Exactly.
- 1:16:59But like to The Last Jedi, like I thought Snoke was going to be
- 1:17:01this killer main character and I was like, it's got to be this.
- 1:17:05It's got to be that. Anything's going to make me
- 1:17:07happy. And then they kill him in The
- 1:17:09Last Jedi, like he never mattered.
- 1:17:11And I'm like, what the fuck is this?
- 1:17:14Right? So I don't know.
- 1:17:16That's my thing. Like we we got to stop putting
- 1:17:18expectations on things and just start enjoying things.
- 1:17:22So before we close out of here, everybody, this, this, this is
- 1:17:26the kilowatt Alex, my my best friend, my buddy.
- 1:17:30We we kind of are breaking a little bit of character here
- 1:17:33because in the world of the High Tension Wrestling Network, we
- 1:17:37don't like each other. So character wise, we're kind of
- 1:17:41breaking the the mold. And if you're watching this also
- 1:17:44on the High Tension Wrestling Network, we want to let you guys
- 1:17:47know that my content is also being put over there, which is
- 1:17:50thank you, Alex, for letting me do that and get more eyes on me.
- 1:17:54But we're, we're not going anywhere.
- 1:17:57I, I say we because I'm very proud of the high Tension
- 1:17:59Wrestling Network and I wanted to succeed, but I am in no shape
- 1:18:03or form at this point in time, owner of the high tension
- 1:18:07branding or anything. It's just a flag that I fly very
- 1:18:10high and I'm very, very proud of to be a part of.
- 1:18:13And I, I, I, I interject myself sometimes with some ideas.
- 1:18:17Sometimes they go through, sometimes they don't.
- 1:18:19But we, I guess what I wanted to say to you is what can people
- 1:18:22expect? What, where has High Tension
- 1:18:25Wrestling been? It's been kind of showcasing
- 1:18:27other people's shows. When do we get the reboot or the
- 1:18:32beginning of the new High Tension Wrestling Network
- 1:18:35universe? So the the background of that in
- 1:18:38story it, it the story that I have to give it to play into the
- 1:18:44reality of what has happened is that Wild LLC stole the company
- 1:18:49from me because I was an idiot and signed papers I shouldn't
- 1:18:52have signed. Right now, because we haven't
- 1:18:54been running shows, I get to still run the network.
- 1:18:59High Tension Wrestling. The brand is not mine, although
- 1:19:02it's in dispute. So there's an injunction.
- 1:19:07Nobody can run High Tension Wrestling shows until that's
- 1:19:12settled, right? In reality, running a promotion
- 1:19:16by yourself is one of the hardest things to do, especially
- 1:19:20when you're running in a city that you live 2 hours away from.
- 1:19:25And when cards are subject to change.
- 1:19:27And when venues suck. So and, and when.
- 1:19:32When partners suck. And you know, I'm not talking
- 1:19:36shit on Andrew. Andrew's my guy.
- 1:19:38Thank you, Andrew. I miss you, buddy.
- 1:19:41Unfortunately, like the earlier this year, we were set to team
- 1:19:44up with Suplex, we were set to team up with some other people
- 1:19:48that ended up we're hyping up shows, I'm investing money, I'm
- 1:19:52investing time and those things all just fell apart and they got
- 1:19:56shut down. So I pretty much had to shut
- 1:19:59myself down for the year and involve myself in the network to
- 1:20:02try to keep the name alive. And that's where we teamed up
- 1:20:06with our partners at the. Smash Master Wrestling and and
- 1:20:09let them kind of host some matches where some things have
- 1:20:14happened to where Nick Gage became our champion and that's a
- 1:20:20partnership that is interesting because that company has changed
- 1:20:25hands I. Think some fan owns it now,
- 1:20:28right? This is something like that.
- 1:20:31I thought if you this is where I get trouble, this is all right.
- 1:20:36If you follow Facebook, it's in dispute.
- 1:20:38Is it Alexander Bateman or is it Dan Reedy?
- 1:20:41I don't know. But yeah, October 25th we have a
- 1:20:46pretty big. We are main eventing a Smash
- 1:20:51Master show at the Ritz Theater and that is going to be probably
- 1:20:551 of the biggest HTW matches there are.
- 1:20:59And that is the last time possibly that you see that that
- 1:21:06belt defended before we relaunch High Tension Wrestling.
- 1:21:12Probably more so in central PA because that's where I live now.
- 1:21:20You're living more Northeast Pennsylvania.
- 1:21:22I don't. I don't know.
- 1:21:24Just helping me out. I don't know, it's pretty
- 1:21:26central to me, but yeah, northeast central area,
- 1:21:30whatever. So we're basically where you
- 1:21:33live up to where I live is, is where I'm looking to run High
- 1:21:37Tension Wrestling and my WHW promotion as well.
- 1:21:43So 2026, we're working towards that.
- 1:21:46I've, you know, I moved to this new place, my finances are
- 1:21:49finally back in order. I can afford to run shows and
- 1:21:52lose money again. Hopefully that's not the case.
- 1:21:55No, no, no, definitely not. But I'll, I'll, I'll make a
- 1:21:59little bit of an announcement. I don't know when this is going
- 1:22:01to air just quite yet, but I, I, I may, I may show up at a smash
- 1:22:07show and, and check out what's going on there.
- 1:22:09And maybe maybe I have some developments that you may be
- 1:22:14interested in, but you'll you'll have to find out through the
- 1:22:16network and coming to the show. For sure, yeah, if it has
- 1:22:19anything to do with the Wild LLC.
- 1:22:21It does. It does.
- 1:22:22I have, I, I do. I can't.
- 1:22:23I can't lend my cards out just yet.
- 1:22:26But I do have some information regarding the Wild LLC and the
- 1:22:30status of high tension wrestling.
