- 0:00Today we find ourselves back in the 1st chapter of John's
- 0:04Gospel. This is the 16th week in John
- 0:09chapter one. We will probably be here for 20
- 0:14weeks just in the 1st chapter, and I promise you that we will
- 0:20not be 20 weeks in every chapter of John's Gospel.
- 0:25If that was the case, we will not be done till at least eight
- 0:29years from now. But no, we we will make sure
- 0:33that we do all we can to explain to you the truth, explore the
- 0:40truth, and extract all that we can from the pages of Scripture.
- 0:48We have seen the word of truth in John chapter one.
- 0:53We have heard the witness to the truth, that's John the Baptist,
- 1:01and today it's time for you and me to welcome that truth into
- 1:10our lives. John is going to give us by way
- 1:14of an invitation to come and respond to the one that you have
- 1:22recognized. You see, once you recognize who
- 1:25Christ is, you must respond and you will either receive Him or
- 1:30you will reject Him. Those are the only two options.
- 1:35And the question is, have you received Him or are you still
- 1:42rejecting Him? And John, by way of invitation,
- 1:49invites you to come. In fact, all throughout John's
- 1:53Gospel there are a various number of invitations.
- 2:01For instance, as the Lamb of God, Christ invites you to come
- 2:06and be cleansed. That's in John chapter one.
- 2:13In John chapter 6, Christ, the bread of life invites you to
- 2:19come and eat. In John chapter 8, Christ is the
- 2:29light of life. He invites you to come and see.
- 2:37In John chapter 10, Christ is the door to life.
- 2:45He invites you to come and enter also in John 10.
- 2:51He is the Good Shepherd of life. He invites you to come and be
- 2:59protected and be cared for. In John Chapter 11.
- 3:07It is the resurrection and the life that invites you.
- 3:12He invites you to come and live so you will never die.
- 3:20In John chapter 15 he is the true vine that says come, come
- 3:29and grow, come and be fruitful but you must come.
- 3:36In John Chapter 7, he is the water of life, and as the water
- 3:43of life he says come and drink. The Bible is replete with
- 3:51invitations. In fact, probably the greatest
- 3:55of all the invitations is recorded in the last chapter of
- 4:02the last book of your Bible, and that is in the Book of
- 4:07Revelation. So I'm going to invite you to
- 4:09turn there with me this morning by way of introduction to our
- 4:14study of John, chapter 1, verses 9 to 13.
- 4:21The Book of Revelation is the unveiling of the Christ.
- 4:27That's what Revelation means, the apocalypsis.
- 4:31It is the unmasking, the unveiling, the complete
- 4:36revealing of Jesus Christ our Lord.
- 4:38And there is no book that does that better than the Book of
- 4:41Revelation. And so John is going to tell you
- 4:47about the end of the beginning, or if you like, the beginning of
- 4:52the end. Either title works for the Book
- 4:55of Revelation. What began in Genesis chapter 1
- 5:00ends in Revelation chapter 22. And Solomon made it very clear
- 5:06in Ecclesiastes 7-8 that the end of a matter is better than its
- 5:10beginning. So at the end of Revelation 22,
- 5:14it's a lot better than it was in Genesis chapter one verse #1
- 5:18because the end of the matter is better than its beginning.
- 5:22So whatever the plan of God is, the end is going to be better
- 5:25than the beginning. At the very end of John's
- 5:29gospel, after he's unveiled to us the Lamb of God, after he's
- 5:32unveiled to us the, the, the Pantocrator, the Almighty one,
- 5:37as he describes him, as he unveils to us the the beauty of
- 5:42the Christ in all of his glory, in all of his splendor.
- 5:46He ends with an invitation. And that invitation is a, is a,
- 5:53is a response to who you've recognized in is it just like
- 6:00our Lord to make sure that you understand that you're invited
- 6:05to come. The invitation is recorded in in
- 6:09verse #17 of Revelation 22 and then surrounding verse #17 that
- 6:17invitation are several incentives that move you to
- 6:22respond to the invitation. Here is the invitation.
- 6:28The Spirit and the Bride say come and let the one who hears
- 6:34say, come and let the one who is thirsty come.
- 6:41Let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.
- 6:47John is concluding this, this incredible unveiling of the
- 6:53Messiah with an invitation, with a plea for the Spirit of God and
- 7:01the bride to say come. I believe that's really asking
- 7:06and praying for the Lord to come quickly.
- 7:10But the invitation to the Sinner is said this way.
- 7:16Let the one who was thirsty come.
- 7:21Let those who are dry and barren come.
- 7:26This is the prerequisite to repentance.
- 7:29The person who recognizes the dryness and bareness of his
- 7:32soul. It's like what Christ said in in
- 7:36Matthew 5 verse #6 when he said, blessed are those who hunger and
- 7:42thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
- 7:46And John comes back and and picks up on that and says,
- 7:49listen, if you are thirsty, come, whoever wishes come.
- 7:57And the reason you're wishing and wanting to come is because
- 8:00you've recognized the thirst that you have based on the
- 8:03identity of of the Christ, the Messiah.
- 8:08And so the Bible says, whosoever shall call upon the name of the
- 8:12Lord shall be saved. So, so if you're thirsty because
- 8:17you're barren and dry, if you, if you, if you want to come,
- 8:19come because this is the time, the time is now to come to the
- 8:26Lord. That's the invitation.
- 8:31Christ would say it this way in Matthew 11.
- 8:35He would say, Come unto me all you that labor and are heavy
- 8:39laden, and I will give you rest again.
- 8:44For those who are weary, come. For those who are thirsty, come.
- 8:51For those who are hungry, come. For those who want assurance of
- 8:56their destiny, come. Whoever wishes to take the water
- 9:04of life, come. What's the water of life?
- 9:10Well, Christ defined that in John chapter 4 when he spoke to
- 9:15the Samaritan woman, when he said the water that I give
- 9:21springs up into eternal life. The water of life is eternal
- 9:28life. Whoever recognizes that only
- 9:34Christ can give it, come, for the invitation is yours.
- 9:42See, the gift of God is not achieved, it's received.
- 9:48You can't achieve eternal life. It's the gift of God.
- 9:54And so the gift of God is received, not achieved.
- 10:00So at the very end of the book of the Bible, the Book of
- 10:03Revelation, he offers this invitation and then he gives all
- 10:10the incentives surrounding the invitation.
- 10:14I'm going to give you #5 first, then #4 #3 #2 and then #1
- 10:21because number one leads us back to John chapter 1 #5 Is this
- 10:26because of the availability of his grace?
- 10:30That's that's how the Book of Revelation ends.
- 10:34Isn't it interesting that the Book of Revelation all about
- 10:36judgment, all about tribulation, all about turmoil, all about
- 10:40wars and rumors of wars, all about earthquakes, all about
- 10:44pestilence, all about famine. He offers grace, so it says in
- 10:51verse #21 the grace of the Lord Jesus be with all.
- 10:58Amen. You come to Him because of the
- 11:01availability of His grace. Salvation is by grace through
- 11:05faith. Salvation is not earned.
- 11:09It's given by God to those who are undeserving.
- 11:14So you respond to the invitation because of the availability of
- 11:16grace #2 you respond to the invitation because of the
- 11:21certainty of His coming. That's the next verse up.
- 11:25Verse #20 He who testifies these things says, yes, I am coming
- 11:32quickly, Amen. Come, Lord Jesus, the certainty
- 11:37of His coming. That's what the Book of
- 11:39Revelation is all about, the second coming to the Messiah.
- 11:44Because He's going to come. You need to respond because you
- 11:46don't know when He's going to come, but you got to be ready
- 11:49for Him to arrive. So because of the availability
- 11:53of His grace, because of the certainty of His coming, and #3
- 11:56because of the finality and veracity of the Scriptures,
- 11:59that's the next two verses up where he says, I testify to
- 12:04everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book.
- 12:07If anyone adds to them, God will add to Him the plagues which are
- 12:10written in this book. If anyone takes away from the
- 12:13words of the book, of this prophecy, God will take away His
- 12:17part from the tree of life, from the holy city, which are written
- 12:21in this book. The finality of Scripture,
- 12:26there's nothing to add to it. There's nothing that doesn't
- 12:31cover. It's completely sufficient.
- 12:36It's completely adequate. Everything that pertains to life
- 12:39and godliness is in this book. All 66 chapters, excuse me, 66
- 12:44books, and all the chapters that entail those books, he says,
- 12:49come because of the finality in the veracity of Scripture, the
- 12:53certainty of His coming, the availability of His grace.
- 12:57And then you need to come because of the exclusivity of
- 13:00heaven, because heaven isn't for everyone.
- 13:07So he says this way up in verse 14.
- 13:11Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the
- 13:15right to the tree of life and may enter by the gates into the
- 13:18city. Outside of the dogs, sorcerers,
- 13:23the immoral persons, the murderers and the idolaters, and
- 13:27everyone who loves and practices lying.
- 13:31This is not an inclusive list. It's a glyph that's
- 13:34representative of people who are sinners.
- 13:37Earlier in Revelation, we have another list.
- 13:40Book of Ephesians we have a list.
- 13:42Book of Galatians, we have a list.
- 13:44Book of First Corinthians 6, we have a list.
- 13:47They are not inclusive list, but they are representatives of
- 13:49people who habitually rebel against God.
- 13:55So he says you need to come because of the exclusivity of
- 13:58heaven. It only comes to those whose
- 14:00robes have been washed in the blood of the Lamb.
- 14:04It's only comes to those who have been set free from their
- 14:06sin and understand the forgiveness of sins.
- 14:12Because those who don't repent and those who don't come to Him
- 14:15by faith are excluded from heaven.
- 14:20So you come to Him because of the availability of His grace,
- 14:24the certainty of His coming, the finality and veracity of
- 14:27Scripture, and the exclusivity of heaven.
- 14:34But here's the key. 1 You come to him because of the identity
- 14:39of Christ. You come to him because of who
- 14:43He is. That's why you respond to the
- 14:46invitation. You receive invitations in the
- 14:49mail, invitations to weddings, invitations to parties,
- 14:56invitations to baby showers, invitations to anniversaries.
- 15:03One of the main reasons you go is based on who's doing the
- 15:07inviting. Because if somebody you don't
- 15:11like is inviting you, you're not going.
- 15:14If somebody you admire invites you, you're probably going to
- 15:16go. But the key to the invitation is
- 15:19who's doing the inviting? Well, the one who gives the
- 15:23invitation is the Messiah himself, the Christ.
- 15:28And so the identity of the Christ is the main reason you
- 15:32respond to the invitation. Yes, His grace is available.
- 15:35Yes, He's coming again. Yes, Scripture is final and
- 15:38true, and yes, heaven is exclusive.
- 15:41But the one who offers the invitation, This is why you
- 15:44come. And that's in verse #13 and
- 15:49verse #16 where he says I am, I am that that unique phrase, ego
- 16:01a me that's used all throughout John's Gospel to describe the
- 16:06four Hebrew confidence that maketh the name of God all the
- 16:09way back in Exodus chapter 3, the memorial name of God.
- 16:14I am that I am. Moses asked, who do I say sent
- 16:19me? You tell him I am sent you.
- 16:23This is the Deliverer, the Redeemer, This is the one who
- 16:27gives the invitation. I AM and I AM is the Alpha and
- 16:34Omega, the beginning of the end, the first and the last.
- 16:37Just three different ways to describe the Infinity, the
- 16:41eternality, the immensity of the I AM.
- 16:46He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning of the end, the
- 16:521st and the last. In other words, he's before
- 16:55everything, He's after everything, and he's the center
- 16:57of everything in between. He is the everything.
- 17:02The reason you come and respond to the invitation is because he
- 17:05is the alpha and the Omega, the 1st and the last, the beginning
- 17:07and the end. This is who he is.
- 17:12He exists outside the realm of time.
- 17:15He's the creator of time. Therefore it's imperative that
- 17:19you come and then down in verse 16 it says I Jesus.
- 17:26That's that's the name that God the Father gave to his son.
- 17:29You should call his name Jesus for he shall save his people
- 17:32from his sin. Well, why?
- 17:35Why give him the name Jesus? Because Jesus is the I am and I
- 17:38am is a Redeemer and a deliverer.
- 17:41So you will call his name Jesus. And then he says, I, Jesus have
- 17:49sent my Angel to testify to these things for the churches.
- 17:52I am the root and descendant of David.
- 17:58I am the I am the source of David's life in line and I am
- 18:04the son of David's life in line. I am the root and I am the
- 18:09descendant of David speaking to his deity and his humanity.
- 18:14I am behind all that David is that I've come from the line of
- 18:17David because I am the alpha and the Omega, the beginning of the
- 18:20end, the first and the last. I am the great I am.
- 18:26And then he says this the bright morning star.
- 18:34I, I end the fulfillment of numbers 2417.
- 18:39That star shall rise out of Jacob with a scepter in his
- 18:43hand. He says that's me, I am the
- 18:48star. I am Malachi 4 verse #2 I am the
- 18:52sun of righteousness, SUN who arise with healing in his wings.
- 19:00And because I am the sun that rises with healing in his wings,
- 19:03you need to come because I am the bright morning star.
- 19:09He says in the book of Luke or Zacharias says of the Messiah,
- 19:18he says the sunrise from on high will visit us to shine upon
- 19:23those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death.
- 19:29Zacharias writes that to his son John, who became John the
- 19:34Baptist because he needed to know that the light of the world
- 19:38had come. And then of course, Peter says
- 19:44the second Peter 119 the day star, when he rises in your
- 19:49hearts, that's when you are saved.
- 19:55Why do you respond to the invitation?
- 19:57Because of the identity of the one who gave the invitation,
- 20:02which leads us back to John's gospel, John chapter one, that
- 20:07Christ is the light of life. And John says that he was not
- 20:13the light. But he came to testify about the
- 20:19light, the bright morning star, the day star, the sunrise from
- 20:26on high, the fulfillment of the prophecy of Numbers 2417.
- 20:32This is he. And So what you have in John's
- 20:37gospel is the unveiling of the deity of Christ.
- 20:43Remember, we told you weeks ago, weeks ago, probably 16 weeks ago
- 20:51by now, that every gospel is an embellishment of one phrase in
- 20:58the Old Testament. John's gospel is the
- 21:03embellishment of the phrase recorded in John, excuse me,
- 21:07Isaiah 35 four, which says behold your God.
- 21:14And John is fulfilling that by saying behold your God.
- 21:18This is who he is. Matthew is the fulfillment of
- 21:22Zechariah 99. Behold your king because Matthew
- 21:25is all about the royalty of the Messiah.
- 21:29Luke's the fulfillment of Zechariah chapter 6 verse #12
- 21:37which says behold a man because Luke is all about the humanity
- 21:44of Christ. And Mark is the fulfillment of
- 21:48Isaiah 42 one behold my servant, because Mark's all about the
- 21:52humility of the Christ. And here John says, behold your
- 21:57God. I'm going to show you the word
- 22:01of truth. I'm going to give you the
- 22:05witness to that truth, because I need you to welcome that truth
- 22:10into your life. This is your invitation.
- 22:17This is what John says in verse #9 of chapter 1.
- 22:22There was the true light, which coming to the world enlightens
- 22:26every man. He was in the world, and the
- 22:29world was made through him, and the world did not know him.
- 22:33He came to His own, and those who were his own did not receive
- 22:37him, but as many as received Him to them.
- 22:42He gave the right to become children of God, even to those
- 22:46who believe in His name, who were born not of blood, nor the
- 22:51will of the flesh, nor the will of man, but of God.
- 22:59John says this is your invitation, you come.
- 23:04Why? Because of His revelation, he is
- 23:10the true light Alathemas used 28 times in the New Testament, and
- 23:2123 of those times it is used in John's Gospel.
- 23:26For instance, in our text he is the true light.
- 23:31John 19 and John 6. He's called the true bread in
- 23:38John 15 is called the true vine in John 8.
- 23:47He is called the truth that will set you free in John 14.
- 23:53He says I am the way I am the truth, I am the life. 7 times
- 24:01Jesus says in John's gospel his words are true.
- 24:08Christ isn't John 1717 as he prays to his Father in heaven.
- 24:13Sanctify them in truth, for your word is true.
- 24:19There is so much about truth at the end in John 18 Pilot asks
- 24:27that great question, What is truth?
- 24:33Wrong question. It's who is truth?
- 24:39See, God is the embodiment of truth.
- 24:44Therefore everything that the embodiment of truth says is
- 24:48true. So whatever Christ says is true.
- 24:54So Pilate got it all wrong. What is truth?
- 24:59Christ is truth. He is the Alathanus.
- 25:03He is the true light. That's what it says that
- 25:09enlightens every man in the world.
- 25:15Now think about that. How does the true light
- 25:19enlighten every man in the world?
- 25:23Do you mean that everybody who has ever existed understands the
- 25:28true light? Yes, to some degree in one of
- 25:35two ways or one of both ways, through creation and through
- 25:43conscience. Romans chapter 1.
- 25:46You know these verses, Romans chapter one, verse 18.
- 25:52For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all
- 25:54ungodliness and in righteousness of men who suppress the truth in
- 26:01unrighteousness. So, so the wrath of God has
- 26:05revealed to those who push down the truth, who, who suppress the
- 26:09truth, who don't want to be held accountable to the truth, who
- 26:12don't want to see the truth for what it is.
- 26:14Because truth is light and light exposes sin.
- 26:19Because that which is known about God is evident within
- 26:21them. For God made it evident to them,
- 26:23You see, that He is a true light that enlightens every man,
- 26:26because God made it evident to every man who lives.
- 26:29Why? Because eternity has been set in
- 26:31the heart of man. That's what Solomon tells us.
- 26:35In other words, man knows there is an eternity.
- 26:39Man knows there is something after death.
- 26:42He might not know what it is, but he knows there's something
- 26:45beyond the grave because eternity has been set in the
- 26:49heart of man. He goes on to say this in verse
- 26:53#24 since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes,
- 26:58His eternal power and divine nature have been what?
- 27:03Vaguely seen. That's not what it says.
- 27:08Clearly seen. Clearly seen white, because he's
- 27:12the true light that enlightens every man who comes into the
- 27:14world. So his attributes, his eternal
- 27:18power, have been clearly seen. If there's a design, there's a
- 27:26designer. If there's a creation, there's a
- 27:28creator. That's clearly obvious, so he
- 27:34says it, it all being understood through what has been made, so
- 27:39that they are without excuse, no excuse.
- 27:44For even though they knew God, they did not honor him as God or
- 27:47give thanks, but they became feudal in the speculations and
- 27:51they're foolish. Heart was darkened, profession
- 27:55to be wise. He became fools.
- 27:58People later say in verse #25 they exchanged the truth of God.
- 28:05What's that? The trueness of who God is.
- 28:10The truth of God for a lie and worship and serve the creature
- 28:14rather than the Creator who is blessed forever.
- 28:18Amen. You see, creation has
- 28:23enlightened every man that comes into the world, and God is the
- 28:25creator of all things, and therefore He is made man without
- 28:30any excuse. Fact.
- 28:32It says in verse #32 although they know the ordinances of God,
- 28:42even though those who commit these sins know the ordinances
- 28:46of God, they know the law of God, they know the statutes of
- 28:51God, they know them, and those who practice such things are
- 28:56worthy of death. They know God's law so clearly
- 29:00that if they break God's law, they know they're worthy of
- 29:02death. But says they not only do the
- 29:07same, but also give hardly approval to those who practice
- 29:10that. Isn't that interesting.
- 29:14He is a true light that enlightens every man that is
- 29:18coming to the world number one by creation, but #2 by
- 29:23conscience. Romans 214 says these words.
- 29:29For when Gentiles who do not have the law do instinctively
- 29:32the things of the law, these not having the law, are a law to
- 29:37themselves. In that they show the work of
- 29:40the law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing
- 29:45witness, and their thoughts alternately accusing or else
- 29:50defending them on the day when according to my gospel, God
- 29:54would judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.
- 30:01So when John says this is the true light that enlightens every
- 30:07man that comes into the world, he does that through his
- 30:13creation and in their conscience.
- 30:20Everybody knows there is a God. Everybody believes there is a
- 30:31God. There is no such thing as an
- 30:34atheist nor an agnostic. No matter what they claim, they
- 30:39do not exist on this planet. Why?
- 30:43Because the true light has enlightened every man that comes
- 30:46into the world and therefore man knows that.
- 30:49So what does he do? He just pushes down the truth.
- 30:53He pushes it away. Why?
- 30:58Why would he do that? Would John explain that to us in
- 30:59John 3? This is the judgment verse 19,
- 31:03that the light is coming to the world and men love the darkness
- 31:07rather than the light. For the deeds are evil.
- 31:10For everyone who does evil hates the light and does not come to
- 31:15the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
- 31:20See that they hate the light because they love the darkness.
- 31:26They love their sin, they love their rebellion, they love their
- 31:30immorality, they love their fornication, they love their
- 31:34homosexuality, they love their their rejection, they they love
- 31:39everything. That's the antithesis of God.
- 31:43They love that because they hate the light, because the lights
- 31:48turned on. What does it do?
- 31:49It exposes what sin, and they don't want their sin to be
- 31:54exposed. So they suppress the truth
- 31:59because they love the darkness. How sad is that?
- 32:08But no, John says he enlightens every man that comes into the
- 32:16world. They says he was in the world
- 32:21and the world was made through him and the world did not know
- 32:28him. It doesn't mean they didn't know
- 32:32he existed, because they do. It doesn't mean they don't know
- 32:38that he lived and died and even rose again.
- 32:42They do. They know that, but they don't
- 32:47know him. They don't know the true God.
- 32:53They know him intellectually because they understand that
- 32:59there is a God. They know him informationally
- 33:06because they can collect information about him, but they
- 33:09did not know him influentially, nor do they know him intimately
- 33:14because they will not allow that God to rub off on them and alter
- 33:18their life and change everything about their life.
- 33:22They will not do that because that would require of a
- 33:27pentance, a turning from that which they love so dearly, their
- 33:32sin. So He says he he came into his
- 33:38own. Who's that?
- 33:41That's Israel in his own did not receive him.
- 33:47Wow. He came into his own and his own
- 33:51did not receive him. Came to his own people, the
- 33:58nation. Listen to what JC Rile says
- 34:02about this. He says Christ is to the souls
- 34:08of men what the sun is to the world.
- 34:11He is the center and source of all spiritual light, warmth,
- 34:14life, health, growth, beauty and fertility.
- 34:17Like the sun, He shines for the come and benefit of all mankind,
- 34:21for high and for low, for rich and for poor, for Jew and for
- 34:24Greek. Like the sun, He is free to all.
- 34:27All may look at him and drink health out of his light.
- 34:33If millions of mankind were mad enough to dwell in caves
- 34:36underground, or to bandage your eyes, their darkness would be
- 34:40their own fault, and not the fault of the sun.
- 34:43So likewise, if millions of men and women love spiritual
- 34:47darkness rather than light, the blame must be laid on their
- 34:51blind hearts, and not on Christ. We see in these verses the
- 34:56desperate wickedness of man's natural heart.
- 34:59We have in the words of Christ. Christ was in the world, and the
- 35:03world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not.
- 35:05He came into His own, and His own received Him not.
- 35:08He came to the very people whom He had brought out from Egypt
- 35:11and purchased for His own. He came to the Jews whom He had
- 35:14separated from other nations, and to whom He had revealed
- 35:17Himself by the prophets. He came to those very Jews who
- 35:20had read of Him in the Old Testament Scriptures, seen Him
- 35:23under types and figures in their temple services, and professed
- 35:27to be waiting for His coming. And yet when He came, those very
- 35:32Jews received him not they even rejected him, despised him, and
- 35:36slew him. Well may the natural heart be
- 35:40called desperately wicked. He preached the gospel message,
- 35:49He performed great miracles, He presented himself as God, the
- 36:00Messiah, and they rejected him. They watched, they saw, they
- 36:08heard, and they rejected. How wicked, how depraved is the
- 36:15heart of man? John says.
- 36:21He enlightened every man that comes into the world, but they
- 36:25did not know him. How sad is is that?
- 36:33And I wonder, I wonder today if you know him for who he really
- 36:39is, for who he truly is. Paul would say that everything I
- 36:50have accomplished, everything I have done in life is nothing but
- 36:57human excrement, dung, compared to the surpassing value of
- 37:06knowing Jesus Christ. My Lord, that's how you know you
- 37:11know Christ. Everything else you do is dung,
- 37:18human excrement. It means nothing compared to the
- 37:23value of knowing Christ. That's why Paul would say that
- 37:27was the verse 8, the Philippians 3 first ten.
- 37:28He would say, oh, that I may know Him in the power of His
- 37:32resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings.
- 37:35There was never enough hours in a day to get to know his God
- 37:40intimately. His cry was to know the true
- 37:48God, the true light that enlightens every man.
- 37:55God through the prophet Isaiah said that my people are
- 37:58destroyed for a lack of knowledge, other words, they
- 38:03don't know me. He says these words in Isaiah
- 38:086/6 For I delight and loyalty rather than sacrifices into the
- 38:18knowledge of God, rather than burnt offerings.
- 38:24You know some things about Israel never changed.
- 38:29Jeremiah says this way. Jeremiah Chapter 9 verse #1
- 38:36Jeremiah is prophesying, prophesying right before Israel
- 38:40goes into their 70 year captivity.
- 38:44Isaiah has already prophesied. Jeremiah is honing in on that
- 38:49time which they're going into captivity and listen to what
- 38:51Jeremiah says in Jeremiah 9 verse number 10, that my head
- 38:55were waters and my eyes a fountain of tears that I might
- 38:59white white. Excuse me, weep day and night
- 39:01for the slain daughter of my people.
- 39:08Oh, that I had in the desert a wayfarers lodging place that I
- 39:14might leave my people and go away from them.
- 39:20Here is Jeremiah the prophet who proclaimed the truth of God.
- 39:25And nobody listened, nobody responded.
- 39:28The invitation will be given over and over and over again.
- 39:32And there was rejection after rejection after rejection.
- 39:35There was no one who would receive that invitation.
- 39:40And Jeremiah comes to the place in life, we says, oh, you know,
- 39:42if I, if I had a lodging place in Palm Springs that I would go
- 39:46there and leave my people. If I had a, a condo in Maui, I
- 39:51would go there and leave my people just to get away from
- 39:56them to be in a place of relaxation because they have
- 39:59rejected the Messiah over and over and over again.
- 40:07This is this. For all of them are adulterers.
- 40:13An assembly of treacherous men calls out their sin.
- 40:19I live among the people who are adulterers.
- 40:23They've committed spiritual adultery.
- 40:25They've committed physical adultery.
- 40:27They have turned their back on their God.
- 40:29This is who they are. They're treacherous men.
- 40:34They bend their tongues like their bow.
- 40:37Lies and not truth prevail in the land.
- 40:40They're all liars. They're all treacherous.
- 40:43They're all adulterers, Calls them out all by name, because
- 40:48that's what they are. He describes them because you
- 40:54see, all true prophets call out sin.
- 41:00That's what they do. Jeremiah did it, Isaiah did it,
- 41:04Malachi did it, Hosea did it, Jonah did it, you name it.
- 41:10John the Baptist did it, Jesus did it, Paul did it, Peter did
- 41:13it, John did it, and the list just goes on and on.
- 41:16All true prophets call out sin. That's what we do Amen.
- 41:21Why? Because we don't want you to
- 41:22live in sin. We want you to be redeemed from
- 41:26your sin. So here is Jeremiah calling out
- 41:30his people. You are adulterers.
- 41:31You are liars. You are treacherous men, and
- 41:36they proceed from evil to evil. These get worse.
- 41:40Not get any better, in spite of all my preaching.
- 41:43Not getting any better. Why?
- 41:46Here's the answer. They do not know me, declares
- 41:53the Lord. That's why they just don't know
- 41:59who I am. Wait a minute.
- 42:00They know God. He redeemed them from Egypt.
- 42:05He took them to the wilderness. He got them day by day.
- 42:09He did many miraculous works among them.
- 42:11How do they not know him? Oh, they know of him.
- 42:14They know about him, and they've seen all of his miracles.
- 42:18They've seen all that he's done. But they didn't know him
- 42:20intimately. They didn't know him
- 42:22influentially. They didn't know him So the fact
- 42:24that he rubbed off so that they would say what he says, they
- 42:28would walk the way he walked, they would live the way he lived
- 42:32would note they wouldn't do that.
- 42:36Why? Because they loved the darkness
- 42:41rather than the light. For the deeds were evil.
- 42:46That's why. That's why David says to Solomon
- 42:51in First Chronicles 28 verse #9 As for you, my son Solomon,
- 42:56know, know the God of your father.
- 43:01Serve him with a whole heart, a willing mind.
- 43:04For the Lord searches all hearts and understands every intent of
- 43:08the thoughts. If you seek Him, he will let you
- 43:11find him. But if you forsake him, He will
- 43:16reject you forever. Know your God, that's the
- 43:26invitation. Do you know Him?
- 43:30Have you come to Him? Do you recognize who He is that
- 43:37you will come to Him and bow the knee before Him and turn from
- 43:40your sin and embrace Him as your Lord and Savior.
- 43:45This is your invitation in John's gospel as he begins
- 43:51having already given you at the identity of the word in verses
- 43:561:00 to 5:00 and then given you the the ministry of of the man
- 44:02who who gave witness to that word.
- 44:04Now he says you need to respond. You need to receive Him, for as
- 44:09many as received Him to them give you power to become the
- 44:12children of God. Are you a child of God this
- 44:16morning? You understand what that means?
- 44:21All my friends, don't let another day go by without
- 44:26embracing the Christ as Messiah, as Lord, as King of your life.
- 44:33Respond to the invitation by receiving Him, not rejecting
- 44:40Him. Let me pray with you.
- 44:43Thank you Lord, for today and the opportunity we have to look
- 44:46at you. We're so much yet to uncover, so
- 44:51little time it seems to do so. But maybe we take what we've
- 44:55learned today, apply it to our lives, that we might live for
- 45:01the glory of the King until you come again, as you most surely
- 45:04will, in Jesus name, Amen.
