- 0:28Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in now number two, oh t
- 0:31Speaker 3: B here on this Tuesday morning.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Hey, Londra, I know this song obviously is not part
- 0:37Speaker 4: of it. What is our theme today? On our music?
- 0:39Speaker 4: I haven't recognized.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 0:41Speaker 5: I think I have it, but you haven't. None of them.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I don't think I've recognized them. I missed one or
- 0:46Speaker 2: two of them.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Oasis was the first.
- 0:49Speaker 2: One, like a deep truck, a deep cut, not really.
- 0:52Speaker 6: Too I don't think many.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Do you want Champagne Supernova or Wonderwall and that's it?
- 0:57Speaker 5: Like wow, I don't think it's a deep cook as
- 1:00Speaker 5: I really like Oasis, but I think that anybody else
- 1:03Speaker 5: would think that anything that's not Wonderwallers Champagne super.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Like like older British bands.
- 1:12Speaker 3: I mean actually, after after you're play the hits, after
- 1:15Speaker 3: your ninety eight degrees, it should have been.
- 1:21Speaker 5: Today and then I went TP and then I went
- 1:25Speaker 5: Alice in Chains, So.
- 1:27Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Okay, well, I don't know what I didn't recognized love
- 1:31Speaker 4: Alison Chains.
- 1:33Speaker 6: I feel like I know a lot of it flies.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Okay, all right, respect, So it's all you go. I
- 1:40Speaker 2: just wanted to know.
- 1:42Speaker 5: That's fine.
- 1:42Speaker 3: It's a random thought. But I'm kind of sitting back
- 1:44Speaker 3: a little bit today and this this light is incredibly bright,
- 1:48Speaker 3: like you know when you take a picture and it's
- 1:51Speaker 3: like an overcanned light that's like shining down in you.
- 1:53Speaker 3: It's just it's never going to be good for anybody involved.
- 1:56Speaker 3: That's what we have here in this studio. Yeah.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I hate big lights and houses like this is like.
- 2:00Speaker 3: In the Year of Our Lord twenty twenty five. Can
- 2:02Speaker 3: we just get rid of those and just get like
- 2:04Speaker 3: some ring lights?
- 2:05Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 2:06Speaker 3: You ever heard get those things?
- 2:07Speaker 2: And never heard of like just yellow light, warm lighting.
- 2:11Speaker 3: My forehead looks like Casper the Friendly Ghost on this.
- 2:15Speaker 7: When I'm home, and you could you could kind of
- 2:18Speaker 7: imagine what that would's blinding white shirt and I just
- 2:22Speaker 7: look like an angel, just like an outline of white.
- 2:25Speaker 2: That's what they call you. Angel.
- 2:27Speaker 7: Yeah, So Friday, I'm like, okay, I'll wear a black
- 2:29Speaker 7: shirt opposite. It worked, except the fact that I looked
- 2:33Speaker 7: even more pale than I did before it was off.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Because I mean, I'm, you know, your fair skinned guy,
- 2:39Speaker 3: like I'm not, but here in this lighting.
- 2:42Speaker 2: You are, Oh boy, I'm in the beach.
- 2:47Speaker 3: He looked the same.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Does anybody out there go to, you know, wherever they
- 2:52Speaker 4: buy their light bulbs lows on depot, light bulb store.
- 2:56Speaker 3: St. Gabriel Hardware, Shout to the local, shout out.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Shout out.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Does anybody go there and be like, yep, I'm gonna
- 3:02Speaker 4: buy the white lights.
- 3:05Speaker 3: You're saying that the warm ones, but like.
- 3:07Speaker 4: The yeah, because you white yellow white is what's called.
- 3:11Speaker 4: They got bright white, they got white, they got yellow.
- 3:14Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Anybody why do they sell them?
- 3:16Speaker 3: They have yellow yellow yellow?
- 3:19Speaker 4: You got yellow. You got the warm lights, the ones
- 3:21Speaker 4: that don't suck in my house?
- 3:24Speaker 3: You got any of them yellow lights.
- 3:25Speaker 4: I just don't understand because usually there's more of the
- 3:28Speaker 4: white ones then they because nobody.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Them, Like, why are they stalking them? I don't like
- 3:33Speaker 2: I get it.
- 3:34Speaker 4: In an industrial if you're okay, if you've got a
- 3:35Speaker 4: radio studio, like if.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Maybe you're a don't really know, like the vanity.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Yeah maybe they Maybe you're a girl, an artist who
- 3:43Speaker 4: sells their work on TikTok.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I don't know, you haven't take some pictures. Yeah, yeah,
- 3:48Speaker 2: exactly what you got a ring?
- 3:49Speaker 3: We just need like ring light, ring light, ring light,
- 3:51Speaker 3: ring lights.
- 3:52Speaker 4: But like white light does not do anything for anybody
- 3:55Speaker 4: in our kitchen, in our house, the lights came this way.
- 3:58Speaker 7: Every light in our house is like the warm white.
- 4:01Speaker 7: Right right over we have like this little like it
- 4:03Speaker 7: looks like a chopping block.
- 4:04Speaker 6: It's like an island style think.
- 4:06Speaker 7: Right above it are these low hanging lights and they
- 4:09Speaker 7: were like the led white. Now I never use them,
- 4:12Speaker 7: but like if you turn them one, it's those Everything
- 4:14Speaker 7: else is normal. It's like but like they're these weird
- 4:17Speaker 7: like tube style lights.
- 4:18Speaker 6: I don't know to change them. I just never turn
- 4:19Speaker 6: them on.
- 4:21Speaker 2: That's gross. You got you gotta kind of a lot
- 4:24Speaker 2: of times they're like like really tiny.
- 4:25Speaker 4: You just gotta pop it off. There's gonna be a serial
- 4:27Speaker 4: number on there. Google the serial number. It might it'll
- 4:31Speaker 4: bring you up to some sort of user manual. It's
- 4:33Speaker 4: gonna tell you all you need to know.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Danny and I I used to get on to Danny
- 4:38Speaker 3: when he was the video producer, because like that line
- 4:40Speaker 3: over there where you're sitting, like would.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Just be.
- 4:44Speaker 5: The lights and also the angle of the camera of
- 4:49Speaker 5: me and Tata that like this one that he has
- 4:52Speaker 5: up on the screen right now, terrible, terrible camera.
- 4:58Speaker 2: We have a little bit of warm lighting and.
- 5:00Speaker 6: I look pretty tanned.
- 5:01Speaker 3: But yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean I'm usually tanned
- 5:04Speaker 3: with you. Yeah, not here, No, not in this light.
- 5:07Speaker 4: When we were training for the combine here at that
- 5:10Speaker 4: Tom Shaw's Training Academy and the Orlando, Florida we trained
- 5:13Speaker 4: at the Wide World of Sports at Disney.
- 5:15Speaker 3: He loved it, and he used.
- 5:16Speaker 4: To yell at the lineman, he before you go to combine,
- 5:19Speaker 4: go get a spray tan.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Yeah for sure, he.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Said, because tan fat looks better than white face.
- 5:24Speaker 5: Because everything if you can't tone it, tan it.
- 5:28Speaker 3: That's exactly right.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Nice. I like that.
- 5:30Speaker 3: But the shirts we had we had to do that too.
- 5:34Speaker 3: In Tempe. Yeah, we either you work out with your
- 5:37Speaker 3: shirt off and you get that tan in that way, yes,
- 5:39Speaker 3: or like because we were on the campus of Arizona State,
- 5:42Speaker 3: it's like, you go get a spray tan, yeah, my shirt.
- 5:47Speaker 4: That's what you gotta do when you got to stand
- 5:49Speaker 4: in front of a bunch of grown ass men with
- 5:51Speaker 4: a jockstrap on.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Imagine that not only like to our listeners, imagine.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Can you do a three sixty?
- 5:59Speaker 3: Yeah? Not it was crazy, not just one time for me,
- 6:04Speaker 3: Like at the Senior Bowl, at the Super Combine, you
- 6:10Speaker 3: like you are in a room full of like the
- 6:12Speaker 3: highest executives in the NFL, like twenty rows deep people
- 6:19Speaker 3: and Jacob Pester running back Louisiana State University, and you
- 6:23Speaker 3: walk out there and you got to girdle all no,
- 6:26Speaker 3: and you gotta you gotta do your arms out. You
- 6:28Speaker 3: gotta kind of like do like a little twist. They
- 6:31Speaker 3: give like uh height and weight and don't measure your
- 6:35Speaker 3: hand there and they measure right like they measure everything
- 6:38Speaker 3: right there and then they say it to the crowd.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Can you imagine like if T Bob would have had
- 6:41Speaker 3: to go through that process? Uh T Bob six four
- 6:45Speaker 3: two ninety five nine inch hands repeat nine inches.
- 6:50Speaker 7: Nine and a half shoes, plugging the bobs, plugging the
- 6:53Speaker 7: microphone like.
- 6:57Speaker 6: It is super super And.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I don't know if you did it because you're a quarterback.
- 7:02Speaker 3: It doesn't really matter. Like they had those body fat
- 7:05Speaker 3: percentage pods and you had to get in those they
- 7:08Speaker 3: got your body fat, and the body fat was also
- 7:10Speaker 3: announced on stage. Oh gosh, can you imagine some of
- 7:13Speaker 3: those big boys, like literal meat market, that's what it was.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like which they would.
- 7:22Speaker 8: Know.
- 7:22Speaker 5: That's that's the thing is like, Okay, this just feels
- 7:26Speaker 5: very I'm not like accusing anybody of anything, but it
- 7:31Speaker 5: feels very ditty because you know, like to me, I
- 7:35Speaker 5: just feel like these people are so rich and they
- 7:38Speaker 5: just get so bored that they're like, let's go look
- 7:40Speaker 5: at these men and their jock straps.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Had a girl. Yeah, full jock streps.
- 7:48Speaker 5: There are different.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Is Yeah, you got your cheek, but.
- 7:53Speaker 5: A girdle you have it like shorts shorts that you
- 7:57Speaker 5: could put Yeah, so it's like thong versus Yeah.
- 8:02Speaker 4: In the world, in the world of yoga pants and
- 8:07Speaker 4: now yoga shorts, I think the girdle is more normalized,
- 8:10Speaker 4: like it's a normal thing, noure right, Yeah, so it's
- 8:12Speaker 4: not it's not that.
- 8:13Speaker 5: Yeah, I just didn't in my head I had something
- 8:16Speaker 5: different for a girdle, Like I guess I thought a
- 8:18Speaker 5: girdle and a.
- 8:19Speaker 6: Jock strap were the same.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Yoga shorts a good way.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Did you wear a girdle, plane.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Jockstrap, girdle on top of that pants? Yeah?
- 8:27Speaker 4: I always thought it was wild, like in the like
- 8:31Speaker 4: all the new technology that came out with uniforms and
- 8:36Speaker 4: compression shorts and ways to keep your boys intact, of
- 8:42Speaker 4: the people that would play tackle football in the NFL
- 8:45Speaker 4: with just a straight up old school jockstrap underneath their pants,
- 8:50Speaker 4: like like not even a new one, like with the
- 8:54Speaker 4: like the rubber strands like kind of sticking out, like
- 8:57Speaker 4: like some strands that popped and stuff just felt like
- 9:00Speaker 4: go in the drawer. Yeah, it wasn't their own personal one.
- 9:04Speaker 4: They'd go in the drawer of the you know, the
- 9:05Speaker 4: XLS or whatever.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:07Speaker 2: True, they used we're talking about.
- 9:11Speaker 5: Oh they're used.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Some people would, well they were used.
- 9:14Speaker 6: Some of our our girdles were used.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Well, so like even in Green Bay, Green Bay was
- 9:19Speaker 4: a worse about like uniforms and like like you take
- 9:22Speaker 4: things home. Yeah, yeah, there was a big drawer of socks, girdles,
- 9:27Speaker 4: shock straps, and they would just wash them. You'd throw
- 9:29Speaker 4: them in the bin and they'd wash them. Even in
- 9:31Speaker 4: the NFL.
- 9:32Speaker 6: So did y'all y'all, y'all did that all.
- 9:34Speaker 2: I don't.
- 9:36Speaker 3: I never one time I wore a jock strap girdle pants.
- 9:40Speaker 6: I just wondering, like.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Career playing football and the people.
- 9:45Speaker 9: I just know.
- 9:46Speaker 3: I think when y'all were in the NF, I know
- 9:48Speaker 3: we got to kind of clock here. One last thing,
- 9:52Speaker 3: and I'm gonna send Taylor a picture of this in
- 9:54Speaker 3: the nineteen I think ninety four, maybe sugar bowl, a
- 9:59Speaker 3: ball gift for the Litigators. A custom jock strap. That's awesome,
- 10:04Speaker 3: and I've got dooring to prove it. He sent it
- 10:07Speaker 3: to me one day, I'll send it to all Right,
- 10:11Speaker 3: let's take a break on time. Look at us, because
- 10:13Speaker 3: when we come back New Orleans Saints offensive lineman Will
- 10:17Speaker 3: Clapp will join us right here on OTB top the bench.

- 10:36Speaker 3: out the trash so you don't get in trouble like that.
- 10:41Speaker 3: That that itself like if that's the only thing they did,
- 10:43Speaker 3: it would be worth the price of a mission. But
- 10:45Speaker 3: then you get the customer service. On top of that,
- 10:48Speaker 3: you get the hey it's a holiday, but we're still

- 11:06Speaker 4: picked up. And you know, I'm usually the one that
- 11:08Speaker 4: takes the trash out, but thank God for weekly reminders, right,
- 11:11Speaker 4: reminded my wife and everyone to get the trash out.

- 11:16Speaker 4: it's give them a call, seal they can be, let

- 11:32Speaker 1: the core. This is Off the Bench with Hester Penflinn
- 11:36Speaker 1: Baton Rouges go to for all things Louisiana sports.
- 11:42Speaker 3: All right, welcome back here in o TV one oh
- 11:44Speaker 3: four five ESPN Baton Rouge And as we said throughout
- 11:48Speaker 3: the show, it is here. It is football season, it
- 11:51Speaker 3: is training cam time. Excited to catch up with one
- 11:54Speaker 3: of our guys. Former LSU All SEC player now going
- 11:58Speaker 3: into year number eight in the NFL. New Orleans Saints
- 12:02Speaker 3: offensive lineman Will Clapp, what's up, Will? How we doing?
- 12:05Speaker 2: Man?
- 12:06Speaker 9: What's going on? LA's appreciate you'll have me on.
- 12:08Speaker 3: How in the hell are you going into your number
- 12:10Speaker 3: eight already? Not feel like that's even possible?
- 12:15Speaker 10: I must feel because I was a little kid when
- 12:17Speaker 10: y'all are crushing Florida. So I mean, I, uh, it's
- 12:20Speaker 10: not number number eight, it's uh, it's flown by quick man.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Uh.
- 12:25Speaker 10: Yeah, I think I've gone on this year at a time.
- 12:29Speaker 10: But you know, after every season you kind of moved
- 12:31Speaker 10: the bar and excited to go after you year number eight?
- 12:35Speaker 3: Now, So what's it like going into training camp now
- 12:39Speaker 3: going into your number eight? Because Flynn and I were
- 12:40Speaker 3: telling kind of training camp stories like when you get
- 12:42Speaker 3: older in your career, it's a little bit different. You
- 12:45Speaker 3: have like a different mindset entering training camp. Like, so
- 12:47Speaker 3: for you, what is that mindset now as you're going
- 12:50Speaker 3: into your number eight? You're established veteran, you're a vested
- 12:53Speaker 3: veteran in the NFL. Is anything different for you?
- 12:58Speaker 9: The Uh?
- 12:59Speaker 10: I was just telling the guys, like the nerves stay
- 13:01Speaker 10: the same, Like I'm still just as nervous excited just
- 13:04Speaker 10: to get going as I was when I was a rookie.
- 13:07Speaker 10: But uh, there's also you know, I'm I'm confident in
- 13:11Speaker 10: you know, what I do now, Like I've I've figured
- 13:13Speaker 10: out who I am as a player, and I also
- 13:16Speaker 10: you know, you know, found my role. And one thing
- 13:20Speaker 10: I've you know, enjoyed over this past couple years is
- 13:21Speaker 10: not only you know, doing my thing, but also helping
- 13:24Speaker 10: you know, these younger guys figure out, you know, what
- 13:26Speaker 10: they're good at and you know, how to establish their
- 13:28Speaker 10: role in the NFL, kind of like what some older
- 13:29Speaker 10: guys did for me when I was younger.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a there's a big difference going into training camp,
- 13:34Speaker 4: just really a mental and pressure standpoint of like you
- 13:37Speaker 4: just have to focus on your physical job now instead
- 13:41Speaker 4: of like learning how to be a pro learning offense.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Is like there's there's a huge pressure off your back.
- 13:46Speaker 4: But I got I'm curious as to this your second
- 13:49Speaker 4: tenure with the Saints. Four years with the Saints, spent
- 13:53Speaker 4: sometimes with the Chargers, last year with the Bills. Now
- 13:55Speaker 4: we're back in New Orleans, and there's been obviously new
- 13:58Speaker 4: coaching change. Is there any familiar faces or things that
- 14:04Speaker 4: you see now that you're like, all right, that's that's
- 14:07Speaker 4: the same or is everything just been kind of like
- 14:09Speaker 4: a wholesale change.
- 14:12Speaker 9: Now. I've been I've been pretty lucky.
- 14:14Speaker 10: So I've played for Kellen in twenty twenty three in
- 14:16Speaker 10: LA uh coach nusion line coach. I've had him when
- 14:20Speaker 10: I was at the Saints my first run and was
- 14:21Speaker 10: hit with him in two years in LA. So I've
- 14:23Speaker 10: kind of been lucky in the terms of, like I've
- 14:25Speaker 10: already been in this offense. I've almost been like a
- 14:27Speaker 10: sounding board for these uh, these current guys of like
- 14:30Speaker 10: trying to figure out what's going on because I've already
- 14:32Speaker 10: been through it, going through it in twenty three, you know,
- 14:34Speaker 10: and you know, just being with the news my whole career.
- 14:37Speaker 10: Uh So, I you know, like you said, I'm going
- 14:40Speaker 10: to this camp kind of hitting the ground run in
- 14:41Speaker 10: just from a familiarity standpoint and just worrying about, you know,
- 14:45Speaker 10: you know, putting my best product on the field physically
- 14:48Speaker 10: every day because I feel like mentally, you know, I've
- 14:51Speaker 10: I've already gone through the you know, the ups and
- 14:53Speaker 10: downs of figuring out a new playbook, you know, back
- 14:55Speaker 10: in twenty three, Kellen, what is.
- 14:57Speaker 3: The plan for you this year? Will because obviously the
- 14:59Speaker 3: center position is going to be, you know, the one
- 15:01Speaker 3: that's out in front. But you've played everything. You've played
- 15:04Speaker 3: tight end. I mean I remember watching you your first
- 15:06Speaker 3: time with the Saints. It's like you're reporting you feel
- 15:08Speaker 3: like every time you're going in there and you're playing
- 15:10Speaker 3: some tight end stuff, like, what do you feel like
- 15:11Speaker 3: the plan is going to be for you this time
- 15:13Speaker 3: around with the Saints?
- 15:16Speaker 10: Thanks to be a similar deal. It's anything and everything
- 15:18Speaker 10: with your If you're a backup with this league, you
- 15:19Speaker 10: need to be able to play multiple spots. It's something
- 15:22Speaker 10: that I got lucky enough that Coach Miles when I
- 15:24Speaker 10: was at LSU, he was always big on having guys
- 15:27Speaker 10: like me and Posik, you know, be able to play
- 15:29Speaker 10: a bunch of different spots. So I mean I literally
- 15:31Speaker 10: freshman year played right guard, sophomore year played left guard,
- 15:34Speaker 10: played center my junior year and that's I think helped
- 15:38Speaker 10: me in the NFL. And as a backup, you need
- 15:39Speaker 10: to be able to play multiple spots. Like you said,
- 15:41Speaker 10: I played tight end. So it's really just anything I
- 15:45Speaker 10: can do. To, you know, make myself valuable to make
- 15:47Speaker 10: this roster every year.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Yeah, so will I kind of heard some once you
- 15:52Speaker 4: signed with the Saints. I heard you talk a few
- 15:54Speaker 4: times and say like, you know, when you heard Kellen
- 15:56Speaker 4: Moore was getting the job, like you were hopeful that
- 15:59Speaker 4: that they would read out and something could happen. Y'all
- 16:01Speaker 4: could make it work. I kind of want to know,
- 16:03Speaker 4: Like as as Louisiana and Hohole like gets familiar with
- 16:07Speaker 4: Kellen Moore as a head coach for the Saints, like
- 16:09Speaker 4: we all want to we all want to see what
- 16:11Speaker 4: the product looks like on the field. But what made
- 16:13Speaker 4: you excited to want to rejoin with him and the
- 16:16Speaker 4: offense that that you're gonna get like immerse back into.
- 16:23Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 16:23Speaker 10: I think the most exciting thing about Kellen as a
- 16:26Speaker 10: play caller when I was with him in twenty three was,
- 16:29Speaker 10: you know, he he gave us the control to you know,
- 16:32Speaker 10: make things happen on the field, and he showed us,
- 16:35Speaker 10: you know, the utmost confidence even when we weren't getting
- 16:37Speaker 10: it done.
- 16:37Speaker 9: On the field.
- 16:38Speaker 10: I mean, you guys have been in these in these
- 16:40Speaker 10: games where let's say you're not running the ball well
- 16:42Speaker 10: and you know your coach just abandons it. You're say,
- 16:44Speaker 10: all right, well it's the second quarter and this is
- 16:46Speaker 10: like a two minute drill now because we're not running
- 16:48Speaker 10: the ball. Well, like would just come up to us
- 16:50Speaker 10: on the line and be like, hey, guys, I'm still
- 16:51Speaker 10: calling us to figure it out.
- 16:52Speaker 9: Like I know, y'all gonna get this done.
- 16:54Speaker 10: Like like those small little moments like he never has
- 16:56Speaker 10: a panic, he never changes things are going well, things
- 16:59Speaker 10: are going.
- 17:00Speaker 9: Bad, He's the same guy. Uh.
- 17:01Speaker 10: I'm excited just to be back around that. And you know, uh,
- 17:06Speaker 10: the staff he's put together. You know, I love my
- 17:07Speaker 10: time with nus Uh. You know, also just being able
- 17:10Speaker 10: to chop it up a BATTLESU football with him. Yeah,
- 17:12Speaker 10: it's always a highlight of my day of being with
- 17:14Speaker 10: Nuge and the rest of the guys. So it's a
- 17:16Speaker 10: it's an exciting staff. It's you know, and I think
- 17:18Speaker 10: you know Callen being at the forefront, it's he uh,
- 17:21Speaker 10: he's just he's creating a great environment for us.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Well, I kind of want to go back to you
- 17:25Speaker 3: talking about playing multiple positions and you've had to kind
- 17:28Speaker 3: of do it all. Well, I got like Trevor Pinning
- 17:30Speaker 3: is going to maybe have to do some different things.
- 17:32Speaker 3: He's played a lot of tackle. He's gonna try to
- 17:34Speaker 3: probably play some guard this year. Like, are those conversations
- 17:38Speaker 3: maybe that you've already had or that you will have
- 17:40Speaker 3: with him saying, Hey, this is you know, this was
- 17:42Speaker 3: my mindset when I went into a game, because I
- 17:45Speaker 3: could have played three different positions in any given game
- 17:48Speaker 3: that I went into.
- 17:51Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, just talking with Trev about the position
- 17:53Speaker 10: changed me. He's really embraced the guard move.
- 17:55Speaker 8: Uh.
- 17:56Speaker 10: Trev's a super talented guy. And you know, some of
- 17:58Speaker 10: the stuff we've seen and we didn't have any live periods,
- 18:01Speaker 10: but in the individual periods where you know, you know
- 18:04Speaker 10: we're honing in on the technique. I mean, this guy's
- 18:05Speaker 10: a freak. I'm super excited to you know, watch him
- 18:09Speaker 10: develop and you know, help any way I can. I know,
- 18:13Speaker 10: News and TJ and job that. I mean, there's some.
- 18:15Speaker 9: Great guys to you know, be able to mentor this guy.
- 18:17Speaker 10: And he's already played a ton of ball and I
- 18:19Speaker 10: think his best football still ahead of him. I think
- 18:21Speaker 10: this is his fourth season, h finally getting to play
- 18:24Speaker 10: inside and you know, I mean, this dude, when he
- 18:28Speaker 10: gets you in a phone booth, he's gonna beat up,
- 18:30Speaker 10: so these dudes arena be closer to him. I'm excited
- 18:33Speaker 10: to see what he can go through this season and
- 18:35Speaker 10: you know, hopefully this leads to you know, a big
- 18:40Speaker 10: contract and lets him you know, be the player that
- 18:42Speaker 10: we all thought he was going to be coming out.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:45Speaker 4: Uh well, I can't like not go an interview without
- 18:48Speaker 4: asking something about quarterbacks, right.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Uh So, like you got you got.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Two young guys that are playing and and competer right now,
- 18:56Speaker 4: and I don't want to like anything know about anything
- 18:58Speaker 4: specifically about that quarterback com petition. But you know, having
- 19:01Speaker 4: yourself and other like really vested veterans leadership can always
- 19:07Speaker 4: help a young quarterback or any young player come in,
- 19:09Speaker 4: have to step in and take on a role, especially
- 19:13Speaker 4: you know position of all positions, the starting quarterback role.
- 19:17Speaker 4: What have you seen from the young quarterbacks as far
- 19:19Speaker 4: as just diving into a new offense and trying to
- 19:23Speaker 4: take you know, some sort of leadership role, vocal role
- 19:27Speaker 4: within the team, within the offense.
- 19:30Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 19:30Speaker 10: I mean, these guys have been great all throughout OTA's
- 19:32Speaker 10: They've you know, it seems like they're attached to you know,
- 19:36Speaker 10: Scotty and Nuss's hip on just trying to you know,
- 19:38Speaker 10: get every bit of information they can. And you know,
- 19:40Speaker 10: there wasn't much like live Team Piers. They had a
- 19:42Speaker 10: couple seven on seven's, but uh, you know, we weren't
- 19:46Speaker 10: doing live bullets with pass rush and everything. But I
- 19:48Speaker 10: think the thing they did the best job of in
- 19:50Speaker 10: OTAs was becoming, you know, just close to all the guys.
- 19:53Speaker 10: I mean, you know, between Spence, Tyler or Jake, they
- 19:58Speaker 10: all you know, every day just trying to do something
- 19:59Speaker 10: with with all of us. I mean, you know, y'all
- 20:02Speaker 10: know how Ota is go. It's it's golf central.
- 20:04Speaker 2: So I think it was.
- 20:05Speaker 9: Golfing were getting to know each other. Man.
- 20:09Speaker 10: Yeah, the rounds go crazy and OTAs, but we uh
- 20:13Speaker 10: you know, that's that's the part that I feel like,
- 20:15Speaker 10: especially for QBS, is just you know, getting to know
- 20:17Speaker 10: everybody and uh being being great friends with all these
- 20:21Speaker 10: guys because you know, the relationships matter, especially you know
- 20:24Speaker 10: with your receivers and all that.
- 20:26Speaker 9: So I think they embraced that role.
- 20:28Speaker 8: Uh.
- 20:29Speaker 10: I think they're all excited to compete, and you know
- 20:31Speaker 10: the competition I'm excited to see during this camp.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Now, well, I know you are splitting time, I believe,
- 20:36Speaker 3: through New Orleans and California. But you've gone through training
- 20:41Speaker 3: camps at LSU. You've done them there for the Saints
- 20:44Speaker 3: and some of the hottest places in America, and you
- 20:47Speaker 3: got spoiled like I did when I went to training
- 20:49Speaker 3: camp in San Diego. It's like, this is the easiest
- 20:51Speaker 3: thing I've ever done. Are we ready? Are we mentally
- 20:54Speaker 3: ready to get back into the heat and humidity of
- 20:57Speaker 3: a South Louisiana training camp?
- 21:00Speaker 9: Mh, I'm ready. I'm ready for it, but I won't
- 21:03Speaker 9: say I'm all love the heat of like you said.
- 21:05Speaker 10: I mean I was in I was in Newport Beach
- 21:07Speaker 10: for for two years for camp and it felt I
- 21:10Speaker 10: mean it felt like winter out there. I mean I've
- 21:13Speaker 10: had chrismssus otter than what we were doing in training
- 21:15Speaker 10: camp there. And then I was in Rochester, New York
- 21:18Speaker 10: last year for camp. So it's, uh, it's definitely be different,
- 21:21Speaker 10: but uh yeah, like I said, the the motivation is
- 21:26Speaker 10: still the same, you know, being uh being this league
- 21:29Speaker 10: so long, it's a it's an addictive thing just being
- 21:31Speaker 10: in the you know, being in the locker room and
- 21:34Speaker 10: you know, wanted to keep your career going. So I'm
- 21:36Speaker 10: I'm just as excited, you know, Newport or UH or
- 21:39Speaker 10: New Orleans.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you don't have to lie to this about
- 21:41Speaker 2: the heat, do Like, I get it.
- 21:43Speaker 4: I was in Green Bay for one year and I
- 21:45Speaker 4: came back to try to do one tens with a
- 21:47Speaker 4: team at LSU during the summer one year. Ye, and
- 21:51Speaker 4: I couldn't make it past like six or seven. I
- 21:53Speaker 4: was like, not this in for me anymore. My body
- 21:55Speaker 4: is just like shut off, being like in the heat.
- 21:59Speaker 10: So We're about to go run conditioning test in a
- 22:01Speaker 10: little bit and it's nowhere near what we did with
- 22:03Speaker 10: the ones ends.
- 22:04Speaker 2: The NFL condition and tests are kind of a joke.
- 22:07Speaker 3: You know, Wait, Mom is not going to be out
- 22:09Speaker 3: there yelling at you, whispering sweet nothings.
- 22:13Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 22:13Speaker 10: I was part of that group that ran thirty two
- 22:15Speaker 10: one ends uh and one conditioning test day and then
- 22:17Speaker 10: we did a league workout after, so yeah, I won't
- 22:20Speaker 10: be going through that today. It's amazing the things you
- 22:22Speaker 10: can do when you're nineteen or twenty years old.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Very true, It is true.
- 22:25Speaker 4: So I got all right, So this is what I'm
- 22:28Speaker 4: really curious about. Have we talked technique? I know, we
- 22:31Speaker 4: haven't read beause we don't pads on yet. I say,
- 22:33Speaker 4: we we're you know, Saints people over here. So y'all
- 22:36Speaker 4: haven't worked because you don't pads on. But y'all talk
- 22:39Speaker 4: technique scheme. What's the x's and o's look like of
- 22:42Speaker 4: a toush push.
- 22:44Speaker 10: Of a tush push? So we haven't talked about a
- 22:46Speaker 10: tush push yet. Oh as soon I know they have,
- 22:50Speaker 10: I know tush push they have. They told us they
- 22:52Speaker 10: have specific drills they do. They have not heed it
- 22:56Speaker 10: to us. Okay, I'm I'm excited to see.
- 22:58Speaker 3: You know, you're going to be in there, like if
- 23:00Speaker 3: there is a situation of a to push, you'll be
- 23:02Speaker 3: in there, right, there's no doubt.
- 23:04Speaker 9: I mean, would be pretty cool.
- 23:06Speaker 10: I mean, I mean obviously, I think what makes the
- 23:09Speaker 10: toush push like the what it was for the Eagles
- 23:12Speaker 10: was like Jason Kelcey just being an absolute freak.
- 23:15Speaker 9: But I'm excited to see like that.
- 23:17Speaker 10: They said they have like specific drills they did for
- 23:19Speaker 10: so I'm excited to see like the film on it all.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Right, well, last one before we let you go, and
- 23:23Speaker 3: we truly appreciate the time, Brother Martin Jesuit our boss,
- 23:29Speaker 3: Gordy Rush proud jesuit alum. He wants to know how
- 23:33Speaker 3: we feel in this year.
- 23:35Speaker 10: I'm feeling good. We got you know, we got some
- 23:37Speaker 10: good athletes, got a five star receiver at Brother Martin.
- 23:41Speaker 10: I'll definitely be locked in for that game. I got Falster.
- 23:44Speaker 3: I was about to say, well, you and Foster have
- 23:45Speaker 3: some kind of a bet towards that game. I mean, hell,
- 23:48Speaker 3: y'all might can even go to the game.
- 23:50Speaker 10: We'll definitely go to the game. No betting though, Well, well,
- 23:55Speaker 10: I mean Falster, you guys know him, he's gonna he's
- 23:58Speaker 10: gonna messing with me twenty four to seven until this game.
- 24:00Speaker 9: So I'm oping the Satyrs uh getting on the.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Screen right now?
- 24:05Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, I know.
- 24:08Speaker 9: Hey, well if you on the screen, he would be
- 24:11Speaker 9: in here.
- 24:12Speaker 3: That's all right.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Last real quick question.
- 24:14Speaker 4: What was that one place place to eat in New
- 24:17Speaker 4: Orleans that like when you were there your first four years,
- 24:20Speaker 4: You're like, yeah, like this is a place I hammered
- 24:21Speaker 4: every other week, like you when you signed back, You're like,
- 24:24Speaker 4: that's the place. I'm excited that I can frequent now
- 24:26Speaker 4: instead of like going there once every now and then.
- 24:28Speaker 9: When I'm back home, I would say my spot.
- 24:32Speaker 10: You know, my family has always gone to is Nostado's,
- 24:35Speaker 10: a little Talian joint mettery.
- 24:36Speaker 9: Uh we eat their ton.
- 24:39Speaker 10: Uh so yeah, right when I got back, called mister
- 24:42Speaker 10: Joe and we went over there at eight and uh
- 24:44Speaker 10: it's kind of it's like I can't eat there a
- 24:46Speaker 10: ton of tongue because I got to watch the weight.
- 24:49Speaker 10: But whenever I get a break, definitely go to make weight.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Hey, will we appreciate the time man, you know obviously
- 24:57Speaker 3: been following your career l s U Saint Chargers bills
- 25:01Speaker 3: back to New Orleans. Eight years in the NFL. Man,
- 25:04Speaker 3: that is a hell of an accomplishment, So congrats on that,
- 25:06Speaker 3: and congrats on you know, being back in New Orleans
- 25:09Speaker 3: and continued success.
- 25:10Speaker 9: Man, I appreciate you guys.
- 25:13Speaker 3: All right, there is Will Clap used to be an
- 25:15Speaker 3: intern back in the old days, way before I got
- 25:19Speaker 3: on OTV of OTB. Sweet Yeah, him and Dj Shark,
- 25:22Speaker 3: I believe what they were both.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Interns little summer internship.
- 25:26Speaker 3: I believe they were so like again back in like
- 25:28Speaker 3: the beginning days of OTB. So shout out to Will Clap.
- 25:31Speaker 3: Eight years in the NFL. That is a big, big,
- 25:34Speaker 3: accomplishment there.
- 25:35Speaker 2: That's huge man.
- 25:35Speaker 3: All Right, we'll step away and when we come back,
- 25:38Speaker 3: we'll be joined by LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker right
- 25:42Speaker 3: here on OTB off the bench.
- 25:45Speaker 2: All right.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Go to pelicanroof dot com as website for Repelican Roofing

- 27:00Speaker 8: Why blocked in?
- 27:01Speaker 1: I'm LSU football twenty four to seven. You're listening to
- 27:04Speaker 1: off the Bench too?
- 27:13Speaker 3: All right, welcome again, OTB one oh four five, ESPN,
- 27:15Speaker 3: Beton Rouge. Let's go now to one of our guys.
- 27:19Speaker 3: LSU defense coordinator Blake Baker. Coach, always a pleasure. Hope
- 27:24Speaker 3: you're doing well. Training camp is upon us? Coach? What
- 27:27Speaker 3: training camp is this for you? Between playing at Tulane
- 27:31Speaker 3: coaching over the years, Like do we know do we
- 27:35Speaker 3: have a number of what training camp this is for you?
- 27:37Speaker 8: Uh? In college football? I guess it'd probably be probably
- 27:43Speaker 8: year altogether. You're twenty, I think.
- 27:48Speaker 3: All right, so I know coach, Hey, we both hit
- 27:52Speaker 3: forty over here, me and Flynn, so we feel that.
- 27:55Speaker 3: But I asked that because I would assume you probably
- 27:58Speaker 3: have like the same feeling. Maybe it's maybe it's different
- 28:01Speaker 3: as a player and a coach. I've never been a coach,
- 28:04Speaker 3: but we were talking about it. It didn't matter like year four, five,
- 28:07Speaker 3: six in the NFL whatever, Like there's still this feeling
- 28:11Speaker 3: in your gut and look, it's a good feeling, like
- 28:14Speaker 3: football's opponent us. But like twenty years in, do you
- 28:17Speaker 3: still get that same feeling.
- 28:19Speaker 8: Yeah, it's kind of a mix of butterflies of excitement
- 28:24Speaker 8: and anticipation. And you know anytime especially you know, like
- 28:29Speaker 8: and I always go back to whenever I first started playing.
- 28:34Speaker 8: You couldn't have freshmen come in early in the summers.
- 28:38Speaker 8: Summers overall were probably fifty to fifty because schools didn't
- 28:41Speaker 8: necessarily pay for summer school. So got that anticipation build
- 28:46Speaker 8: up of seeing the guys again. And yeah, I think
- 28:50Speaker 8: if you start to lose that feeling, it's probably time
- 28:52Speaker 8: to hang it up.
- 28:54Speaker 9: All right.
- 28:55Speaker 3: I think everybody has this coach but like a training
- 28:58Speaker 3: camp story from your playing day, And like we were
- 29:02Speaker 3: talking about a couple of weeks ago, there was one
- 29:03Speaker 3: practice where like every and this was at LSU, like
- 29:07Speaker 3: every running back went down with cramps, like Ali, Bruce
- 29:09Speaker 3: Sar Justin Vincent like all these guys, like they just
- 29:12Speaker 3: kept cramping and they were out of practice. And so
- 29:14Speaker 3: it was me and Sean Jordan, who we both played fullback,
- 29:17Speaker 3: but I was playing some tailback and we just rotated
- 29:20Speaker 3: full back and tail back, like Sean had no tailback experience,
- 29:23Speaker 3: but it's all we had left and so first team
- 29:26Speaker 3: second teen thirteen. It didn't matter. We were just rotating
- 29:28Speaker 3: and like that was one of those days that ended
- 29:30Speaker 3: up in like twenty five ivs, you know, yep, in
- 29:33Speaker 3: the locker room and you can't really even do that anymore.
- 29:35Speaker 3: But I know, I have to imagine that you have
- 29:38Speaker 3: one of those training camp stories.
- 29:40Speaker 8: Oh yeah, there's well again. Back you know, back when
- 29:43Speaker 8: we played yet freshman you had three days of freshman
- 29:48Speaker 8: camp and we actually went away when I was at TWULA.
- 29:51Speaker 8: My first two years we went to Saint Paul's and
- 29:53Speaker 8: Covington and did Baul camp there. Then my third year
- 29:56Speaker 8: we went to Southeastern before they brought back their football
- 30:00Speaker 8: team there on Strawberry Field. But I'll never forget, and
- 30:05Speaker 8: I want to I want to say it was that Southeastern.
- 30:08Speaker 8: I know, I know it was one of the places
- 30:10Speaker 8: that we we traveled to for camp. But after you know,
- 30:12Speaker 8: after some practices in between two days of course, you
- 30:15Speaker 8: had to get that that lift in too right and
- 30:18Speaker 8: uh man, I remember a guy on our team was
- 30:21Speaker 8: in the middle of a bench press and full body
- 30:23Speaker 8: cramp just locked up and the bar just laid down
- 30:26Speaker 8: his chest and you're like, man, like you said, that
- 30:28Speaker 8: wouldn't happen nowadays, you know, But yeah, we've all had
- 30:32Speaker 8: those days, especially in South Louisiana. You can't. You could
- 30:35Speaker 8: try to beat the heat, but obviously you're doing two
- 30:38Speaker 8: days and you're getting in there, you know, starting before
- 30:40Speaker 8: the sun came up and then when the sun was
- 30:42Speaker 8: going down, so made for long days. But I do
- 30:44Speaker 8: remember that was one of the It was kind of
- 30:45Speaker 8: really scary, to be honest with you, watching a guy
- 30:48Speaker 8: full body cramp with with bench with the bench press
- 30:51Speaker 8: bar in his hand.
- 30:53Speaker 4: So when we were playing and everybody on the team,
- 30:55Speaker 4: not everybody, but there's like twenty thirty guys, I had mopets,
- 30:58Speaker 4: and so I was one of these guys had a moped.
- 31:00Speaker 4: I'd zoom around from my dorm or whatever to the
- 31:03Speaker 4: locker room and I got I was walking to my
- 31:05Speaker 4: moped after training camp practice, and I'm a quarterback now, right,
- 31:08Speaker 4: so all we do is like play.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Catch and run around a little bit.
- 31:10Speaker 4: But like I was walking and I just felt a
- 31:13Speaker 4: little twitch in my calf, and I was like, you
- 31:15Speaker 4: know what, maybe I don't jump on my moped. Right
- 31:17Speaker 4: the second I walked back in the training with full
- 31:19Speaker 4: body cramp, the worst, most excruciating pain.
- 31:22Speaker 2: I was like, think, if.
- 31:23Speaker 4: I was on my moped right now, full body cramp,
- 31:25Speaker 4: I'd be laying out like I'm at the circle right now.
- 31:28Speaker 3: Yeah, so you.
- 31:29Speaker 8: Probably have You probably have a pretty scratched up face.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Control it once you lock up right, maybe career would
- 31:35Speaker 4: have been over right there off the Toyota moped coach.
- 31:40Speaker 4: I want to talk about your defense a little bit. Jake,
- 31:42Speaker 4: and I had the opportunity at SEC Media Days last
- 31:45Speaker 4: week to talk with Chris Hiltondu Smyer and your guy
- 31:48Speaker 4: with Weeks, and I want to ask you just watching
- 31:51Speaker 4: with control of room, watching him talk with the passion
- 31:54Speaker 4: I was. I looked at Jake and I was like, man,
- 31:56Speaker 4: I think I would I would die for this guy
- 31:58Speaker 4: right right now.
- 31:59Speaker 8: He got me five.
- 32:00Speaker 4: Have you ever been around a player that has such
- 32:03Speaker 4: an infectious positive attitude that just around the area that
- 32:08Speaker 4: he carries himself with.
- 32:10Speaker 8: No, He's very unique in that way. And then especially
- 32:13Speaker 8: the you know it was interested in watching as the
- 32:16Speaker 8: year went on. You know, sometimes guys let success go
- 32:19Speaker 8: to their head or change a little bit, like he's
- 32:21Speaker 8: he's still the same wit weeks today that he was
- 32:24Speaker 8: you know when I first came in last spring. But
- 32:26Speaker 8: you're exactly right when you talk about his positivity, like
- 32:30Speaker 8: he brings that even when it's you know, one hundred
- 32:32Speaker 8: and thirty degrees out on a practice field and everybody's tired.
- 32:36Speaker 8: He's really never, never negative, you know, to be honest
- 32:39Speaker 8: with you, and I think our guys feed off of that,
- 32:41Speaker 8: and really it's it's something that we try to pride
- 32:43Speaker 8: ourselves in, you know, as far as being positive and
- 32:48Speaker 8: uplifting and not necessarily dragging each other down. But he's
- 32:51Speaker 8: the epitome of it. He does it as well as
- 32:53Speaker 8: anybody I've ever been around.
- 32:55Speaker 9: You know.
- 32:56Speaker 3: It's a group that's got a lot of players, and
- 32:58Speaker 3: you and I have talked about this. A lot of
- 33:00Speaker 3: guys that I would consider meatheads again term of endearment,
- 33:03Speaker 3: but like I feel like, like in this defense, like
- 33:06Speaker 3: it's important to have those guys. It's important to have
- 33:09Speaker 3: those guys like like Flynn said, like I think I
- 33:11Speaker 3: die for this guy. Well, I think with and I
- 33:12Speaker 3: think West, and I think Hybrin, Like all those guys
- 33:15Speaker 3: would die for LSU's defense. And it feels like you've
- 33:19Speaker 3: got a great combination of those guys mixed with some
- 33:22Speaker 3: just raw talent, mixed with some young guys, mixed with
- 33:24Speaker 3: guys from kind of all over the place. It feels
- 33:26Speaker 3: like a better mixture of personalities this.
- 33:30Speaker 8: Year, Oh for sure. I think I think it's it's
- 33:33Speaker 8: probably spread out across the board, like you just talked about,
- 33:36Speaker 8: when you've got a really really good, strong group of
- 33:40Speaker 8: upper classmen mixed in with some younger classmen that have
- 33:43Speaker 8: played some football as well. But those guys, they you know,
- 33:47Speaker 8: there's they spend more time in the weight room and
- 33:50Speaker 8: and out on the field running one tens than they
- 33:52Speaker 8: do you know, in practice, especially this time of year.
- 33:55Speaker 8: So to see those guys in that leadership, you know,
- 33:58Speaker 8: getting out there for some team runs this summer and
- 34:02Speaker 8: watching them, man, it's imperative and in the unselfishness like
- 34:06Speaker 8: there's no Again, we have a lot of really good players,
- 34:09Speaker 8: in my opinion, but they're all bought into one common goal.
- 34:12Speaker 8: So that makes it a we got a chance to
- 34:13Speaker 8: have a special unit based off of those things.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Hey, coachin y'all did a really good job this offseason
- 34:19Speaker 4: in the transfer portal, you bringing Patrick Payton, you bringing
- 34:22Speaker 4: mansword delaying to Marcus Cooley to secure some spots on
- 34:25Speaker 4: the defense. Tell me what that process is and just
- 34:28Speaker 4: integrating them with two you know guys personality wise, but
- 34:32Speaker 4: more importantly into your scheme.
- 34:35Speaker 8: Yeah, I think it starts. I think our our personnel
- 34:38Speaker 8: department does an outstanding job with evaluating the type of
- 34:43Speaker 8: talent that we feel is a really good fit for
- 34:46Speaker 8: what we do defensively. And then it's kind of like
- 34:48Speaker 8: speed dating once you're once you're in the transfer portal process.
- 34:52Speaker 8: But the but the one thing I'll say is the
- 34:54Speaker 8: advantage you have from a transfer portal process is usually,
- 34:59Speaker 8: you know, so somebody on that staff, whether it be
- 35:01Speaker 8: a streamth coach, whether some of them supports staff, usually
- 35:06Speaker 8: somebody that you've worked with byer, and you can really
- 35:09Speaker 8: get a fair assessment. And and sometimes you know their
- 35:13Speaker 8: assessment isn't always true as well, just because some guys
- 35:17Speaker 8: need a fresh start, and so you got to take
- 35:18Speaker 8: all those things into consideration. But throughout that entire process,
- 35:23Speaker 8: you have to make sure that they're a fit for
- 35:25Speaker 8: for the culture and and all those all those guys
- 35:27Speaker 8: that you mentioned have been a plus. It's been again
- 35:31Speaker 8: really really fun because we needed some upperclassmen, to be
- 35:34Speaker 8: honest with you too, and and these guys have come
- 35:36Speaker 8: in humble and hungry, and it's been fun to watch
- 35:40Speaker 8: the integration of the current players that we had before
- 35:44Speaker 8: they arrived, and then once they got here, it's it's
- 35:46Speaker 8: been pretty seamless.
- 35:47Speaker 3: Well Blake, like you said, like you had a chance
- 35:49Speaker 3: to see them in the weight room and running one tens,
- 35:52Speaker 3: but now here coming up, they're going to be in paths.
- 35:54Speaker 3: It's going to be football activities. Which position group with
- 35:58Speaker 3: you know, all the new coming into this defense and
- 36:01Speaker 3: you pair with guys that were here, Which position group
- 36:03Speaker 3: do you think you'll eye hustle the most, like in
- 36:05Speaker 3: that first week of training camp to kind of because
- 36:08Speaker 3: you've got a belief of what they are and what
- 36:10Speaker 3: they can be, but now you want to see it
- 36:12Speaker 3: in pass. Which group are you probably going to maybe
- 36:15Speaker 3: watch the closest? I guess that first week of camp.
- 36:18Speaker 8: Yeah, I'd say it's probably it's probably twofold. I think
- 36:22Speaker 8: the safeties, you know, especially with aj Halsey coming in,
- 36:26Speaker 8: you know, most of the guys we had through spring
- 36:29Speaker 8: PRACTICEE have somewhat of an expectation of those guys going
- 36:32Speaker 8: into the fall camp. But I think the safety position
- 36:36Speaker 8: and the defensive tackle position the same thing we got.
- 36:39Speaker 8: We got some new guys that weren't here in the spring.
- 36:41Speaker 8: When you look at Bernard and the two freshmen Buddy
- 36:45Speaker 8: Mathis and Brandon Brown not having a chance to outside
- 36:48Speaker 8: of that for the most part, you know, and really
- 36:52Speaker 8: the young guys at linebacker, I'm really intrigued to see,
- 36:55Speaker 8: you know, what what those three income and freshmen do. Again,
- 36:59Speaker 8: we had Charles Ross here, so uh. But but overall,
- 37:02Speaker 8: I'd say the safety position is probably what I'll be
- 37:04Speaker 8: and most interested and seeing how those guys gel. I
- 37:07Speaker 8: think you have to have such chemistry back there together,
- 37:10Speaker 8: and we've been mixing a match at them this summer,
- 37:12Speaker 8: and I think it'll be an intriguing position battle.
- 37:16Speaker 4: Hey, coach, I'm curious as to kind of your schedule
- 37:19Speaker 4: once training camp starts with your installation and then how
- 37:22Speaker 4: that kind of flips over to game planning. Of course,
- 37:25Speaker 4: you're gonna install base defenses, teach them the foundation of
- 37:29Speaker 4: what you want to do, and then kind of get
- 37:31Speaker 4: into like the more detailed and.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Intricate things after that.
- 37:34Speaker 4: But week one you never want to like look ahead
- 37:37Speaker 4: or game plan, but of course you face a mobile guy,
- 37:40Speaker 4: dual threat kind of guy with a kid club. And
- 37:41Speaker 4: do you start like integrating those types of defensive philosophies
- 37:45Speaker 4: and schemes earlier on because of what you're gonna face
- 37:48Speaker 4: first game.
- 37:50Speaker 8: Yeah, to be honest with you, uh, that last week
- 37:53Speaker 8: of spring ball, we started introducing you know, cleanse in
- 37:58Speaker 8: and some of their base plays and honestly some of
- 38:01Speaker 8: their problem plays, just to kind of get a look
- 38:03Speaker 8: at what we think we might like going into fall camp.
- 38:07Speaker 8: So yeah, and I think you know, coach Kelly has
- 38:10Speaker 8: been open and talked about it. It's something that we've
- 38:12Speaker 8: talked about with our guys throughout spring, throughout summer. So
- 38:17Speaker 8: you know, really when it comes to installation, a lot
- 38:19Speaker 8: of it's going to be based on when that specific
- 38:24Speaker 8: day early on. That is what I'm talking about, That
- 38:27Speaker 8: specific day comes up on the install schedule, whether it
- 38:29Speaker 8: be you know, day one for instance. And again from
- 38:34Speaker 8: when we played to now, the installation process and the
- 38:38Speaker 8: acclimization processes really changed. I think it's I think it's
- 38:42Speaker 8: like sixty or sixty five percent of all camp injuries
- 38:46Speaker 8: come in the first two days, we've gotten much smarter
- 38:48Speaker 8: and I don't want to use the word easing guys
- 38:52Speaker 8: into but our practices the first couple of days are
- 38:54Speaker 8: generally shorter so they can get acclimated again they've had
- 38:58Speaker 8: all summer. But as we all know on this phone call, man,
- 39:01Speaker 8: once you start really chasing the rabbit, man, you kick
- 39:05Speaker 8: those hamstrings into extra gear. So I think, you know,
- 39:10Speaker 8: from a base installation standpoint, we'll be very similar to
- 39:15Speaker 8: really how we were in the spring and how the summer,
- 39:17Speaker 8: and then once we start getting into probably about week
- 39:21Speaker 8: two and a half, we'll really start probably flipping that switch.
- 39:25Speaker 9: A little bit.
- 39:26Speaker 3: As Matt mentioned, we wor at SEC media days last
- 39:29Speaker 3: week and BK got up there and he's like, hey,
- 39:31Speaker 3: we're not hiding from the fact that we're playing Clemson
- 39:34Speaker 3: in week number one. Talked about having Paul Prince around
- 39:36Speaker 3: the facility. Want to oh around the facility. That is
- 39:39Speaker 3: a little bit different, but I gotta be honest, like,
- 39:41Speaker 3: I really like that. And Matt and I in our
- 39:43Speaker 3: time we played I think three Power four opponents in
- 39:46Speaker 3: our four years of playing here, and I always like
- 39:50Speaker 3: coach like, hey, let's don't try to hide from who
- 39:52Speaker 3: the opponent is. And I hadn't really seen that in
- 39:54Speaker 3: years past when Elsh's had these big time openers, So
- 39:57Speaker 3: it seems like it's a point of emphasis to know
- 39:59Speaker 3: who the opponent is.
- 40:01Speaker 8: Yeah, I think you know that the definition of insanity
- 40:05Speaker 8: is doing the same thing over and over and expecting
- 40:07Speaker 8: a different result, right, And so, you know, I think
- 40:11Speaker 8: and I think that's the coolest thing about coach Kelly Man.
- 40:14Speaker 8: He's always learning, he's always adapting. I think he does
- 40:18Speaker 8: it year to year based off the opponent. Also, you
- 40:20Speaker 8: know who is on our current roster, and I think
- 40:24Speaker 8: we have a very mature roster that can handle you know,
- 40:29Speaker 8: some some you know, you have a young team, sometimes
- 40:33Speaker 8: you can build it up too much, right, And so
- 40:35Speaker 8: I think does a fantastic job with that. But I'm
- 40:39Speaker 8: excited about I know we're doing some things differently in
- 40:41Speaker 8: fall camp and we haven't gotten necessarily into the nuts
- 40:44Speaker 8: and bolts of what those things are going to be.
- 40:46Speaker 8: But again, I think it's just created a little more
- 40:49Speaker 8: sense of vergence two with our guys too.
- 40:51Speaker 4: Yeah, coach real quick tell us about how the new
- 40:54Speaker 4: defensive line Coach Kyle Williams has just kind of like
- 40:57Speaker 4: dove in and been part of the staff the recruiting
- 41:01Speaker 4: and just how he's jumped in and really kind of
- 41:04Speaker 4: helped us. I was, you know, I was roommates with
- 41:06Speaker 4: him for a year in college. I was teammates with
- 41:08Speaker 4: him in Buffalo for a cup of coffee. And when
- 41:11Speaker 4: when you hired him, I was like, man, I don't
- 41:13Speaker 4: want to say that this was an amazing hire because
- 41:16Speaker 4: he instantly brings experience, but just motivation to guess, so
- 41:20Speaker 4: how he how has he been around the facility?
- 41:22Speaker 8: Man, he's He's the One thing that's very very impressive
- 41:26Speaker 8: about Williams is how proactive he is attacking things that
- 41:33Speaker 8: he might not necessarily know and sometimes is you know,
- 41:36Speaker 8: a college coach has been doing it a while. You
- 41:38Speaker 8: take Brandon and I'm talking about the little things like
- 41:41Speaker 8: how to do an expense report for recruiting or even
- 41:44Speaker 8: you know, how you go about booking your flight, and man,
- 41:47Speaker 8: that dude is he's very He's really self sufficient. He
- 41:50Speaker 8: figures stuff out on his own very very quickly.
- 41:52Speaker 9: He's very smart.
- 41:54Speaker 8: And again, man, when you've had a guy that's played
- 41:56Speaker 8: thirteen years, been an All pro as an All American
- 41:58Speaker 8: at the school year. I think he and credibility with
- 42:00Speaker 8: our guys, and I think it's actually even improved throughout
- 42:04Speaker 8: the spring as they've gotten to know them because he
- 42:07Speaker 8: coaches them, you know, hard, but he loves them just
- 42:10Speaker 8: as hard and we'll do anything for him. And I
- 42:12Speaker 8: think those guys realize that pretty quickly in the process.
- 42:16Speaker 3: All right, coach last one, we had you on a
- 42:18Speaker 3: couple of weeks ago. You said that it felt like
- 42:20Speaker 3: Perk and Witt we're both progressing exactly where they needed
- 42:24Speaker 3: to be to start training camp. Does it feel the
- 42:26Speaker 3: same way good to go as we hit the ground
- 42:28Speaker 3: running here?
- 42:29Speaker 8: Yeah? Yeah, both guys are fully cleared. And you know,
- 42:33Speaker 8: the one thing I've talked to both of them about
- 42:35Speaker 8: is we're obviously going to be smart with them and
- 42:37Speaker 8: fall camp, and they can't be too big of a
- 42:40Speaker 8: meathead where you know, like, no, coach, I'm good, I'm good,
- 42:43Speaker 8: I'm good, and you're really not. So something you know
- 42:47Speaker 8: when you talk about kind of position group wise, like
- 42:50Speaker 8: who I'm going to be making sure I'm paying attention to, definitely,
- 42:53Speaker 8: and it helps to have an experience with both those
- 42:55Speaker 8: guys with making sure that they look crisp, and with
- 42:58Speaker 8: today's technology and everything, and with GPS is we can
- 43:04Speaker 8: find out very very quickly from a from a analytical
- 43:07Speaker 8: standpoint as well. But no, right now, you know, uh,
- 43:11Speaker 8: they've had outstanding summers. Both are moving at full speed.
- 43:16Speaker 8: And again we're smart with the volume, especially early on
- 43:19Speaker 8: with them.
- 43:20Speaker 3: Uh yeah, they have GPS's on them. When we were
- 43:22Speaker 3: all playing college football, we had to print off map
- 43:24Speaker 3: quest to go from place to place. Quite quite the different,
- 43:29Speaker 3: quite the different times there. Hey, Blake, you're the man.
- 43:31Speaker 3: We appreciate it. I know you got like literally days
- 43:33Speaker 3: before you really get into you know, shutting the door,
- 43:36Speaker 3: throwing away the key football mode. So we appreciate giving
- 43:39Speaker 3: us a couple of minutes.
- 43:40Speaker 8: I appreciate y'all having me. Man. I always good at talk.
- 43:42Speaker 8: We'll talk soon.
- 43:43Speaker 3: All right, there he is LSU defense coordinator Blake Baker.

- 45:26Speaker 2: It was track ten of Oasis.
- 45:28Speaker 3: It was not like track ten. It was track three.
- 45:32Speaker 4: I think yeah, I think it's sure or the Is
- 45:35Speaker 4: it even on their Greatest Sets album?
- 45:37Speaker 2: Do they have more than one album?
- 45:38Speaker 5: Yes, they have two and actually no, they have more
- 45:42Speaker 5: than two, but they have two really good ones.
- 45:44Speaker 3: Yeah they were brothers.
- 45:48Speaker 2: All right.
- 45:48Speaker 3: I do apologize somewhat, but look, when you have LSU's
