- 0:01Speaker 1: Thank you. What's up, everybody? Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports
- 0:45Speaker 1: Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast
- 0:48Speaker 1: show in the world, over 13 and a half years strong.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Got a great show coming your way this week, as
- 0:54Speaker 1: we always do. But this week, it is our Eagles
- 0:57Speaker 1: season preview. The NFL season currently underway right now. A
- 1:01Speaker 1: bore fest of a game last night in terms of
- 1:05Speaker 1: the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, a rematch of
- 1:09Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. Holy cow, it was a bore fest.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Warren. I'm here with my buddy, Eric Leonard,
- 1:14Speaker 1: better known as The King. My friend, great seeing you.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to this episode. And how are things going, man?
- 1:21Speaker 2: They're good. That game brought back some bad memories. The
- 1:25Speaker 2: last time they played, I was in a hospital bed.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. Oh, geez. That's right.
- 1:31Speaker 2: My son pointed that out to me. He's like, remember
- 1:32Speaker 2: the last time they played, you were three days into
- 1:35Speaker 2: a hospital stay. I was like, yeah, it was awesome.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Thanks, son. Yeah. Thanks, son. Thanks for the reminder.
- 1:41Speaker 2: What a Super Bowl party that was. Yes.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh. Well, we got a great show here, folks.
- 1:46Speaker 1: So why don't we just like get into this upcoming
- 1:49Speaker 1: NFL season? Of course, our Eagle season preview. We are
- 1:52Speaker 1: going to have our good friend Brandon Lee Gouten, BLG
- 1:55Speaker 1: from bleedinggreennation.com. He's going to be jumping on as he
- 1:58Speaker 1: does every year for our Eagles season preview. Always appreciate
- 2:02Speaker 1: BLG for jumping on whenever he has time to, whenever
- 2:05Speaker 1: he has the opportunity to. So I wanted to get
- 2:08Speaker 1: the NFL season preview. uh discussion started here with you
- 2:12Speaker 1: eric by talking about some storylines that a lot of
- 2:14Speaker 1: people are going to be following this upcoming year first
- 2:17Speaker 1: and foremost like how the rams are going to respond
- 2:20Speaker 1: to this whole super bowl hype because they're being hyped
- 2:22Speaker 1: up at this point so much so that if they
- 2:25Speaker 1: don't get to the super bowl somehow it's going to
- 2:28Speaker 1: be a disappointment for their fans or even the league
- 2:30Speaker 1: i think it's kind of a I think it's kind
- 2:33Speaker 1: of a BS type of storyline and also wanted to
- 2:36Speaker 1: get into whether or not Josh Allen can actually get
- 2:39Speaker 1: over the hump in Buffalo and truly contend for a
- 2:42Speaker 1: Super Bowl. And then we want to get into a
- 2:45Speaker 1: sleeper team as well before we start getting into some
- 2:47Speaker 1: other NFL predictions and division winners wildcard who we think
- 2:50Speaker 1: is going to win the Super Bowl. So I don't
- 2:53Speaker 1: know what your thoughts are with regard to this Rams team, Eric,
- 2:56Speaker 1: because I think they're being overhyped. They're a good team,
- 2:59Speaker 1: you know, on paper. How many times have we seen
- 3:02Speaker 1: Over the years when there are great teams on paper,
- 3:04Speaker 1: but they don't necessarily perform the way we think they're
- 3:07Speaker 1: going to. Case in point in baseball with the Dodgers
- 3:10Speaker 1: right now. Look, the Dodgers are a good team. Don't
- 3:12Speaker 1: get me wrong. They got a lot of talent and
- 3:14Speaker 1: they're winning games here and there when they're supposed to
- 3:16Speaker 1: be winning games. But like they're not like dominating like
- 3:19Speaker 1: a lot of people thought and said they were going to.
- 3:22Speaker 1: We see that in football. We see it in basketball.
- 3:24Speaker 1: We see it in hockey as well. Teams may be
- 3:26Speaker 1: good on paper, but what actually happens on the field
- 3:29Speaker 1: is another thing. I think the Rams are being a
- 3:31Speaker 1: little too overhyped at this point. Everybody's saying they're going
- 3:34Speaker 1: to get to the Super Bowl. What are you thinking here?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Well, if you think about it, I mean, what are
- 3:38Speaker 2: the odds of them making the Super Bowl? It's pretty
- 3:41Speaker 2: much the same as every good team right now.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Right. Yeah.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Hell of an offseason. But I've seen this hype thing
- 3:48Speaker 2: so many times and it just doesn't work out. And
- 3:52Speaker 2: especially teams, they get hyped up with older players.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:55Speaker 2: And and even a player or two of like questionable,
- 4:00Speaker 2: like going into the season, like, is that person OK?
- 4:03Speaker 2: And I'm talking about Puka. You know, he had a
- 4:07Speaker 2: he bit a woman this offseason.
- 4:09Speaker 1: He was hungry.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Apparently there's other he has a lot of money to
- 4:14Speaker 2: hire a chef.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:18Speaker 2: But I had to go to rehab. But then it
- 4:20Speaker 2: said on July 4th that he walked through a plate
- 4:23Speaker 2: glass window at a party.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Yes. Those things are clear. Those things are clear. Yeah.
- 4:28Speaker 1: And I don't know they're there.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Listen, I at my brother's college graduation party, we all
- 4:34Speaker 2: watched Len show walk right into a plate glass window.
- 4:39Speaker 2: He didn't break through it.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:40Speaker 1: But he hit it really hard.
- 4:42Speaker 2: And it was the funniest thing I've ever seen in
- 4:43Speaker 2: my life. So it can be done. but he must've
- 4:47Speaker 2: been really moving. Cause he went through it anyway. I'm
- 4:49Speaker 2: just saying like all this hype and it's still, there's
- 4:53Speaker 2: still a lot of questions about that team. Like Matthew
- 4:56Speaker 2: Stafford is what? 38, 39 years old.
- 4:58Speaker 3: 52.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:59Speaker 3: 52.
- 5:00Speaker 1: He's older than me.
- 5:01Speaker 2: And last year he was in traction basically with his
- 5:04Speaker 2: back going into the season. He had a great year,
- 5:07Speaker 2: but like, and the addition of miles Garrett is, is
- 5:10Speaker 2: really strong. They're secondary stronger.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Aaron Donald coming back as well.
- 5:15Speaker 2: But not even making the trip to Australia.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:19Speaker 2: And there's, I think there's a lot of unneeded pressure
- 5:22Speaker 2: on them. Judge just stemming from all this hype.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:27Speaker 2: And we'll see how they respond to it. That's the
- 5:30Speaker 2: veteran leadership will help them through that piece of it.
- 5:32Speaker 2: But like, there's just a lot of questions about a team. I,
- 5:36Speaker 2: I hearken back to the 2012 Eagles, the dream team.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Remember that Jeff?
- 5:40Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Where they brought in some, veteran players and they, they
- 5:43Speaker 2: were stacked. This is a different situation, obviously, but, um, the,
- 5:50Speaker 2: the Rams are in a similar boat and I just
- 5:53Speaker 2: think there's so many questions across the board with that
- 5:55Speaker 2: team that I don't think they'll live up to it.
- 5:57Speaker 2: I mean, I think they're going to be really damn good.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Defense is going to be really good, but I, I
- 6:03Speaker 2: just don't, I don't know. The, the, the, the ticket
- 6:06Speaker 2: punch to the Superbowl, I think is like way worse.
- 6:10Speaker 2: way too much.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I do as well. And, you know, on the
- 6:13Speaker 1: flip side, when we move over to the AFC East too,
- 6:16Speaker 1: and talking about the bills, talking about Josh Allen as well.
- 6:19Speaker 1: And the question is, can they actually get over the
- 6:21Speaker 1: hump this year? Can Josh Allen look, he remains an
- 6:25Speaker 1: elite quarterback in this league, an MVP candidate. It seems
- 6:30Speaker 1: like every single year, Kenny carried this offense through some
- 6:34Speaker 1: pretty tough matchups as well. They've got DJ more now
- 6:38Speaker 1: as well. a premier pass catching option, if you want
- 6:42Speaker 1: to call him a premier pass catching option. But this
- 6:46Speaker 1: is a team, again, that is talked about year after
- 6:50Speaker 1: year after year of being in contention. And I'm not
- 6:53Speaker 1: sure they're going to be able to do it. I
- 6:55Speaker 1: think their window of opportunity to really get there was
- 6:57Speaker 1: last year. Again, didn't happen for them. And I'm not
- 7:01Speaker 1: sure they're as good of a team this year as
- 7:04Speaker 1: they were last year. What are your thoughts on Josh
- 7:07Speaker 1: Allen and this Bills team and the thoughts of them
- 7:09Speaker 1: possibly contending for a super bowl.
- 7:12Speaker 2: You know, I, I got, I have a second home
- 7:14Speaker 2: now in Buffalo.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:16Speaker 2: My daughter goes, we go there all the time. And yeah, it's,
- 7:20Speaker 2: he's impenetrable up there and, and kind of in the
- 7:22Speaker 2: media across the U S as a whole, like he's
- 7:25Speaker 2: just not, he doesn't, he doesn't take a lot of
- 7:28Speaker 2: criticism and. Which is incredible to me.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Okay.
- 7:31Speaker 1: By the way, really quick, what Jalen hurts has done
- 7:34Speaker 1: during his career, you know, it's a ridiculous playoffs every year.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Superbowl trips.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Superbowl MVP. And he gets more criticism than Josh Allen does.
- 7:45Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 7:46Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I've seen Jalen hurts in like the third tier of
- 7:49Speaker 2: quarterbacks on some people's lists. Have we lost our minds?
- 7:53Speaker 2: Josh Allen is, is incredible. He's a one man team.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:57Speaker 2: But that team has not even gotten to the AFC championship.
- 8:01Speaker 2: And I mean, it, it, and he, he always doesn't,
- 8:04Speaker 2: he doesn't really come through in the playoffs. I just think,
- 8:08Speaker 2: It's a new coach. Their defense is highly, highly questionable,
- 8:12Speaker 2: unlike the Rams.
- 8:15Speaker 1: And I just.
- 8:17Speaker 2: The offense will probably be better with Joe Brady, his
- 8:19Speaker 2: new coach. And he's an offensive minded coach. But I
- 8:22Speaker 2: think the defense is going to take a huge step back.
- 8:25Speaker 2: And I don't I'm not sure if Buffalo even wins
- 8:27Speaker 2: the NFC or AFC East.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Yeah, who knows? Yeah, they could be a wild card.
- 8:31Speaker 1: We're going to get to that. We're going to get
- 8:33Speaker 1: to our division winners predictions and our wild card prediction
- 8:37Speaker 1: winners as well. But before we take a break to Eric,
- 8:40Speaker 1: wanted to get your thoughts because I've really been thinking
- 8:43Speaker 1: about sleeper teams this season. We see them every year.
- 8:45Speaker 1: And look, I don't want to call the Carolina Panthers
- 8:47Speaker 1: last year a sleeper team. Yes, they made the playoffs,
- 8:50Speaker 1: but that division was absolutely terrible. But I think my
- 8:55Speaker 1: sleeper team this year is actually going to be the
- 8:57Speaker 1: New Orleans Saints who are in that particular division you
- 9:00Speaker 1: know they I think they are a prime sleeper candidate
- 9:04Speaker 1: due to one a manageable division that they are in
- 9:08Speaker 1: the division is not great by any stretch and they
- 9:11Speaker 1: have some coaching stability finally under Kellen Moore who we
- 9:15Speaker 1: all know Kellen Moore what he was able to do
- 9:17Speaker 1: helping to bring another Super Bowl to the city of
- 9:20Speaker 1: Philadelphia And that emerging upside at quarterback, that position with
- 9:26Speaker 1: Tyler Shuck, he showed something last year. He showed some poise.
- 9:31Speaker 1: And the fact that he can be developed, how high
- 9:34Speaker 1: is his ceiling? We do not know. I think his
- 9:36Speaker 1: floor is pretty high, which leads me to believe that
- 9:38Speaker 1: they could be a sleeper team this year. That's my
- 9:41Speaker 1: pick for a sleeper team to really surprise us this year.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Do you have a specific team? It's the saints actually.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Is it really? Yeah.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Yeah. We didn't talk about this folks.
- 9:53Speaker 3: No, no.
- 9:53Speaker 2: I i feel the same way it's a incredibly manageable
- 9:56Speaker 2: division yeah um and i think they won however many
- 10:01Speaker 2: games last year for the like last five or six
- 10:04Speaker 2: games they went they lost one game yeah they they
- 10:07Speaker 2: closed out really well i think tyler shuck you know
- 10:11Speaker 2: it i actually heard somebody on a podcast call him
- 10:14Speaker 2: be like the saints had a young quarterback i think
- 10:17Speaker 2: he'll be 26 this year or 27 yeah yeah he's
- 10:19Speaker 2: a little older yeah so they kind of have a
- 10:22Speaker 2: better in there already but the offense is gonna be
- 10:24Speaker 2: much better hopefully chris alave stays healthy and the defense
- 10:27Speaker 2: is kind of you know they're not bad it's like
- 10:29Speaker 2: a 12 to 15th ranked defense so it's a little
- 10:33Speaker 2: better than middle of the road um i think between
- 10:35Speaker 2: that and just the the the schedule they're gonna play
- 10:39Speaker 2: and tyler shuck just if he can give you a
- 10:41Speaker 2: B plus B, you know, BB plus, I think, I think,
- 10:44Speaker 2: I think they could easily win that division and actually
- 10:47Speaker 2: scare some teams in the playoffs. That's that's my sleeper
- 10:49Speaker 2: team too.
- 10:50Speaker 1: All right. Very good folks. We are going to take
- 10:52Speaker 1: a break right now. When we get back, we're going
- 10:53Speaker 1: to get into some NFL predictions and then Eagles predictions
- 10:57Speaker 1: or Eagle season preview. Stick with us.
- 11:02Speaker 3: All right.
- 11:02Speaker 1: We are back. Eric's phone's going crazy. If you're hearing
- 11:05Speaker 1: it and on the video as well, I'm sorry.
- 11:11Speaker 2: You know, it, it is work hours right now.
- 11:14Speaker 1: So it was my phone. My phone's going crazy too.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Let's get into our NFL predictions for the coming season
- 11:21Speaker 1: winner of each division. We are just based on the
- 11:24Speaker 1: time that we have to get into this. We don't
- 11:26Speaker 1: have to go into extreme details here, but let's start
- 11:30Speaker 1: off Eric with the let's start off with the AFC. Okay.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I'd love to get into the AFC East right off
- 11:38Speaker 1: the bat. Who do you think that division winner is
- 11:40Speaker 1: going to be? I think it's going to be the Patriots.
- 11:44Speaker 2: I'm actually taking the Bills.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Are you?
- 11:45Speaker 3: Okay.
- 11:46Speaker 2: By a slim margin. New England, I mean, that was
- 11:50Speaker 2: a tough spot last night for New England.
- 11:52Speaker 1: It was.
- 11:53Speaker 2: And I'm not knocking them out of first place because
- 11:55Speaker 2: of that game, but I just think they have a
- 11:57Speaker 2: huge target on their back this year from the press, too,
- 12:01Speaker 2: because the whole Rossini and Vrabel thing. That was weird
- 12:05Speaker 2: last night, seeing him interviewed, and it was just normal
- 12:09Speaker 2: football talk. You're just kind of like, where's Nick Moore?
- 12:13Speaker 1: You're an arty boy. She was an arty girl.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Some of the stories she did, journalism's in the toilet
- 12:20Speaker 2: right now, sports journalism.
- 12:21Speaker 1: It is.
- 12:22Speaker 2: After that and the Clippers thing.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Except for Pablo. Pablo Torre. I want to get him
- 12:26Speaker 1: on the show. Do not want to get in that
- 12:29Speaker 1: man's crosshairs.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Holy shit. No, I think Buffalo is going to win,
- 12:34Speaker 2: but just by a slight margin. By the way, the
- 12:36Speaker 2: Jets are, I think, plus 200 to be in third
- 12:39Speaker 2: place in the AFC East. I think it's the safest
- 12:43Speaker 2: money in the world.
- 12:44Speaker 1: It probably is, yeah.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Because Miami's being atrocious. There's no other spot for the
- 12:49Speaker 2: Jets to go to. I saw this the other day.
- 12:51Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my God, I'm going to put a
- 12:53Speaker 2: lot of money on that.
- 12:54Speaker 1: There you go. I'd like that, actually. All right, let's
- 12:56Speaker 1: move to the AFC North. I am going to be taking...
- 13:00Speaker 1: the Baltimore Ravens, actually John Harbaugh is not there. So
- 13:06Speaker 1: it's going to be interesting to see where this team goes,
- 13:08Speaker 1: but I do think the Ravens are going to win
- 13:10Speaker 1: this particular division. What are your thoughts?
- 13:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Ravens in a landslide. I think that
- 13:16Speaker 2: new coach is going to be really good. A lot
- 13:21Speaker 2: of talk about him being like the next Mike McDonald
- 13:23Speaker 2: situation in Seattle. So And it makes sense because that's
- 13:28Speaker 2: where McDonald came from. I think Lamar is going to
- 13:30Speaker 2: have a monster year. And I think Derek Henry has
- 13:33Speaker 2: one or two more just just just trucking dudes on
- 13:38Speaker 2: the other defense. And yeah, that's not a real I
- 13:41Speaker 2: don't think that's a super tough division either. I think
- 13:44Speaker 2: Steelers are going to be their typical nine and eight.
- 13:46Speaker 2: And I just think Baltimore is going to have an
- 13:48Speaker 2: awesome year and probably get to them a little later.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Oh, all right. Sounds good. Sounds good. AFC South. I
- 13:56Speaker 1: think this is a fascinating division because the Jaguars, Texans
- 13:59Speaker 1: and Colts, I think all can do some sort of
- 14:02Speaker 1: damage within this particular division. But at the end of
- 14:05Speaker 1: the day, I'm actually going to go with the Jaguars
- 14:07Speaker 1: based on their season last year. I think they're developing
- 14:09Speaker 1: a team, Parker Washington, upcoming wide receiver for us to
- 14:12Speaker 1: keep our eyes on. I think he is going to
- 14:14Speaker 1: be possibly a star in this league. Depends on how
- 14:17Speaker 1: that connection chemistry is. with Trevor Lawrence. So I'm taking
- 14:21Speaker 1: the Jaguars. Who do you have?
- 14:24Speaker 2: I love the Texans here.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Okay.
- 14:26Speaker 2: I think their defense is probably the most elite in
- 14:29Speaker 2: the league. And if CJ Straub can just give you
- 14:34Speaker 2: like a B or B minus.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Yep.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I think they have the, the, the top, the sky's
- 14:41Speaker 2: the limit for them, honestly.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Okay.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Okay. Sounds good. Uh, let's go to the AFC West.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I'm going to, I'm going to be picking the Denver Broncos.
- 14:50Speaker 1: A lot of people are, are hyping the chiefs. Oh,
- 14:52Speaker 1: it's going to be a comeback season, blah, blah, blah.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I'm sorry. The Eagles took their soul. They haven't given
- 14:58Speaker 1: it back to them. The Eagles took their soul in
- 15:00Speaker 1: that super bowl. And the team hasn't been right since
- 15:03Speaker 1: I'm going with the Denver Broncos. Who do you have?
- 15:05Speaker 2: We ate their soul and shit it out. That's how,
- 15:08Speaker 2: that's how badly we beat them a year and a
- 15:11Speaker 2: half ago. Um, I like Denver too. I just think
- 15:15Speaker 2: that that's another defense. There were two really good defenses
- 15:19Speaker 2: in the Superbowl last year. And defense was a big
- 15:21Speaker 2: piece of the playoffs last year too. I just think like,
- 15:25Speaker 2: give me the, give me the damn good, give me
- 15:27Speaker 2: the best defenses and just give me like a top
- 15:30Speaker 2: 12 to 15 offense. And that those are the teams
- 15:34Speaker 2: to watch out for. So I think Denver is going
- 15:35Speaker 2: to win as well. Didn't the homes just tear his ACL? Like,
- 15:41Speaker 2: Eight months ago?
- 15:42Speaker 1: Yeah. Eight, nine months ago.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:46Speaker 2: That and the Kelsey thing, he's like 30-some years. I
- 15:49Speaker 2: don't see it at all.
- 15:50Speaker 1: I don't either. I don't either. Let's move over to
- 15:53Speaker 1: the NFC now. NFC North, I'm actually going to be
- 15:56Speaker 1: picking the Detroit Lions. I think this is going to
- 15:58Speaker 1: be more of a, quote, comeback season for them. I'm
- 16:03Speaker 1: not sure that the Bears are the real deal. Caleb
- 16:06Speaker 1: Williams has really surprised me as a quarterback, quite frankly.
- 16:09Speaker 1: And I think he has the potential to develop very
- 16:11Speaker 1: high floor. Not sure what his ceiling is, but I
- 16:14Speaker 1: think the Lions are poised to have a comeback season.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I'm picking the Detroit Lions to win the NFC North.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Who do you have here?
- 16:20Speaker 2: Man, honestly, this one, to me, the division almost looks
- 16:24Speaker 2: like an NFC South situation.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Where you're just like, who do I pick for this team?
- 16:31Speaker 2: Because Kyler Murray, if he's awesome, which I don't think
- 16:36Speaker 2: he will be, I think Minnesota could be really damn good.
- 16:39Speaker 2: But you're putting all your eggs in the Kyler Murray basket,
- 16:42Speaker 2: which I'm not willing to do, especially as a gambler.
- 16:46Speaker 2: So I'm going to go with Chicago here. I just
- 16:48Speaker 2: think the offense is going to be spectacular. I did
- 16:51Speaker 2: see the starting– somebody posted what their starting defense is
- 16:54Speaker 2: going to be this year.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:56Speaker 2: And I got a little scared of my Chicago pick
- 16:58Speaker 2: after that.
- 16:58Speaker 1: A lot of guys I've never heard of.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Right. And I just feel like Detroit is– I feel
- 17:06Speaker 2: like they're going to be neck and neck. I think
- 17:08Speaker 2: Detroit's going to make the playoffs, but I think the
- 17:10Speaker 2: bears are just kind of eke it out by a
- 17:11Speaker 2: little bit.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Okay.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Maybe. Yeah. All right.
- 17:14Speaker 1: The NFC South. Look, I think the Panthers made some
- 17:18Speaker 1: pretty good off season moves and I think they are
- 17:20Speaker 1: going to be a better team than last year. They
- 17:22Speaker 1: won the division just by a hair last year, ended
- 17:25Speaker 1: up getting to the playoffs for the first time in
- 17:27Speaker 1: God knows how many years. I know I talked about
- 17:31Speaker 1: the saints being a sleeper team. We may talk about
- 17:32Speaker 1: them again in a bit, but, but I think this
- 17:35Speaker 1: is the Panthers division here as well. Baker Mayfield, I
- 17:38Speaker 1: think perhaps on the downslide of his career, that Buccaneers often,
- 17:42Speaker 1: what are we going to see of them? What we
- 17:44Speaker 1: know of them, a lot of inconsistency there. And the
- 17:46Speaker 1: Falcons are just going to really stink outside of Bijan Robinson.
- 17:50Speaker 1: So I think it's the Panthers division here. What are
- 17:52Speaker 1: your thoughts?
- 17:54Speaker 2: I'm actually looking forward to Falcons games because their quarterback
- 17:58Speaker 2: situation is like one of the saddest in recent history.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Do we put Tua, who probably should have retired two
- 18:04Speaker 2: years ago because of the concussions, or do we start Penix,
- 18:07Speaker 2: who we have no idea if he's any good?
- 18:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:11Speaker 2: And his knees are like pretty much mushed by at age, what, 24?
- 18:14Speaker 1: Yeah. 25 already.
- 18:17Speaker 2: I do like watching bad teams. I think the Dolphins
- 18:19Speaker 2: and Falcons are going to be atrocious to watch, but
- 18:22Speaker 2: like a dumpster fire kind of fun. I like the
- 18:26Speaker 2: Saints here. This... this division is another one. It's kind
- 18:30Speaker 2: of a toss up between those three teams that you
- 18:32Speaker 2: just mentioned.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Um, you know, if, if Baker's on the down slide
- 18:36Speaker 2: of his career, he just signed for what? $ 140 million.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:41Speaker 2: It's good retirement money, man. I'll take that golden parachute anytime,
- 18:44Speaker 2: any day. Um, I, I kind of like the Panthers,
- 18:47Speaker 2: but they're kind of a meh team to me. They're
- 18:49Speaker 2: kind of like the, uh, like the Colts a little bit.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Like I don't, I, I think I know what I
- 18:55Speaker 2: have here and I'm not exactly impressed. So I, I
- 18:57Speaker 2: think the saints are going to kind of equal one
- 18:59Speaker 2: out nine and eight, 10 and seven kind of thing.
- 19:01Speaker 2: And if they get hit 10 and seven, that's kind
- 19:03Speaker 2: of a miracle for them, honestly, after last year.
- 19:05Speaker 3: So absolutely.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Absolutely. All right, let's move the NFC West before we
- 19:09Speaker 1: get to the NFC East here, Rams in a heartbeat.
- 19:12Speaker 1: That's what I'm taking in this division. Is that who
- 19:14Speaker 1: you have also?
- 19:16Speaker 2: Yeah, but I don't think it's going to be a runaway.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Like we talked about earlier in the show.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Okay.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:20Speaker 2: There's some good teams in that, in that division. I
- 19:22Speaker 2: don't think it's going to be easy. I mean, Seattle
- 19:23Speaker 2: just beat one of the best teams in the NFL
- 19:27Speaker 2: last night with drew lock is the quarterback.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Yep. Yep.
- 19:30Speaker 2: We're already off to a bad shit start to the season.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Nobody knows anything honestly.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Right. Exactly.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:38Speaker 1: All right. Well, uh, the NFC East, oh my gosh,
- 19:41Speaker 1: are we going to be homers and take the Eagles
- 19:44Speaker 1: or will it be somebody else?
- 19:47Speaker 3: Yes.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I'm taking the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Actually.
- 19:49Speaker 1: We're going to get to what we think the records
- 19:51Speaker 1: are going to be, but it's going to be an
- 19:53Speaker 1: interesting division. I think with the Cowboys, I think the
- 19:55Speaker 1: Cowboys and the Eagles are going to be right there
- 19:57Speaker 1: with each other throughout the course of the season. I
- 19:58Speaker 1: really do. And who knows what the giants are going
- 20:01Speaker 1: to do. They've got new leadership. They actually have a
- 20:03Speaker 1: quarterback that is pretty damn aggressive and they haven't had
- 20:07Speaker 1: the quarterback like that in quite some time in New York.
- 20:11Speaker 1: So I don't know.
- 20:11Speaker 2: What are your thoughts here with the NFC East? So
- 20:14Speaker 2: when you say aggressive, you mean injury prone as well?
- 20:17Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 20:19Speaker 2: They got two guys on that offense that are a little,
- 20:22Speaker 2: little scary. And by the way, you know, when, when,
- 20:26Speaker 2: who's the coach of the giants now?
- 20:28Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Harbaugh.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Harbaugh.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:29Speaker 2: He took over and everyone's like, Oh, giants got a
- 20:32Speaker 2: real coach. I was like, Is he a good coach still?
- 20:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Isn't he almost like 80 years old now? I think
- 20:43Speaker 2: he's in his 70s, right?
- 20:44Speaker 1: I don't know. John Harbaugh, I'm not sure. I think
- 20:48Speaker 1: he is.
- 20:48Speaker 2: And I'm like, you know, sometimes the game passes guys
- 20:51Speaker 2: by and like, I don't know if this is the
- 20:53Speaker 2: game changer. And I've seen some of the Giants like
- 20:56Speaker 2: body language and stuff.
- 20:58Speaker 1: He's 63, 63.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I thought he was like in the seventies. I don't
- 21:00Speaker 2: know why, but yeah, he's 60. That's, you know, he's
- 21:03Speaker 2: an older guy and I, I have no idea if
- 21:05Speaker 2: he's still a good coach. So that whole hype, the commanders,
- 21:09Speaker 2: I think are going to be atrocious. I think they're
- 21:12Speaker 2: going to be like bottom five in the league.
- 21:15Speaker 3: No way.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Jane Daniels goes healthy for a full season.
- 21:19Speaker 1: No, I'm, I'm, I'm going to.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Pick Dallas for the division.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 21:24Speaker 2: But just by a hair, I think they might have
- 21:26Speaker 2: the same record and it'll be like a division thing.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Yep. Tiebreaker type of thing.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Like, like, you know, 10 and seven ish, both teams
- 21:34Speaker 2: kind of, kind of in there, but I went through
- 21:36Speaker 2: everyone's both their schedules. I think Dallas, I think Dallas
- 21:39Speaker 2: is gonna be pretty good.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:40Speaker 2: You know, Caleb Downs was a hell of a pick. Um, they,
- 21:43Speaker 2: they do have some, somehow they traded Micah Parsons away
- 21:46Speaker 2: and they still have pretty damn good depth on the
- 21:48Speaker 2: defensive line. Um, I hate them with all my heart,
- 21:52Speaker 2: but I think the offense is going to be really good,
- 21:54Speaker 2: and I think they're going to win the division.
- 21:56Speaker 1: All right, very good. All right, let's get to the
- 21:58Speaker 1: wild card in both the NFC and the AFC. We're
- 22:01Speaker 1: on the NFC right now, so let's get to them.
- 22:04Speaker 1: My wild card predictions are going to be the Cowboys,
- 22:07Speaker 1: also going to be the Saints, who I had mentioned earlier.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I think they're a sleeper team this year for sure,
- 22:13Speaker 1: and the Chicago Bears. Those are my three wild card picks.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Who do you have, buddy?
- 22:19Speaker 2: I got Seattle, Detroit, and Philly.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Okay.
- 22:21Speaker 3: All right.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Interesting.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I'll tell you, man, the way that the NFL is
- 22:26Speaker 1: anymore and the talent, you know, there seems to be
- 22:29Speaker 1: just a lot of balance anymore with certain teams. I mean,
- 22:31Speaker 1: not everybody is. I mean, the Dolphins stink, you know,
- 22:34Speaker 1: but there are a lot of good teams out there
- 22:36Speaker 1: that may be able to contend, may be able to
- 22:38Speaker 1: get to the playoffs. So I think it's going to
- 22:40Speaker 1: be really interesting. What do you think the AFC championship
- 22:43Speaker 1: game is going to end up being? NFC championship or?
- 22:46Speaker 1: I said AFC, but if you want to start with NFC,
- 22:48Speaker 1: we can do it. Yeah.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Did we do our playoff teams for AFC?
- 22:54Speaker 1: Oh, the wild card. I'm sorry.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Yeah. Okay.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I'm like looking at the time.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 22:58Speaker 1: It's in the middle of our work day. And I'm like.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Okay.
- 23:02Speaker 2: AFC wild card teams. Maddie Jacksonville Chargers.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Okay.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Yep.
- 23:07Speaker 1: All right. I think that I am going to be
- 23:09Speaker 1: going with the Bills. Cause I do think the Patriots
- 23:12Speaker 1: are going to end up winning that division. Like I said,
- 23:14Speaker 1: so I'm going to be going with the bills, the
- 23:16Speaker 1: Bengals and believe it or not, I'm actually going to
- 23:19Speaker 1: be going with the, the Raiders. I don't know why
- 23:22Speaker 1: I think the Raiders have something. And I think, I
- 23:25Speaker 1: think they are, I would call them a sleeper team
- 23:29Speaker 1: as well. Not as much a sleeper team as, as
- 23:31Speaker 1: the saints, but I think they could equal out perhaps
- 23:34Speaker 1: in that division. I don't think the chiefs are really
- 23:35Speaker 1: going to do much of anything this year.
- 23:36Speaker 2: So I think I have something and it's a diaper
- 23:39Speaker 2: full of shit. I don't see that at all.
- 23:41Speaker 1: You don't see it. No, I mean, I'm just, I'm
- 23:44Speaker 1: pulling stuff just out of thin air. Hot take folks,
- 23:47Speaker 1: hot take. We never do hot takes on this show,
- 23:49Speaker 1: but that was their quarterback. You know that, right? Yeah.
- 23:52Speaker 1: But I think, you know, I think Mendoza, you know,
- 23:54Speaker 1: is going to end up playing at some point. And
- 23:56Speaker 1: I think he's going to be an X factor. I
- 23:58Speaker 1: think he is going to be a damn good quarterback
- 24:00Speaker 1: in this league. So, uh, all right, well now let's
- 24:03Speaker 1: get to AFC championship game. Who do you think that's
- 24:06Speaker 1: going to end up being?
- 24:07Speaker 2: Uh, I think Houston, Baltimore.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Ooh, wow. Yeah, that is great. You know, you know what?
- 24:13Speaker 1: I'm going to say this. I think Houston is going
- 24:15Speaker 1: to make the playoffs. I really do. I'm changing my
- 24:18Speaker 1: Raiders prediction.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Texans to the Texans. And, uh, uh, instead of, instead
- 24:27Speaker 1: of the Raiders, because, I think the Texans are actually
- 24:29Speaker 1: probably going to get to the divisional round. I don't
- 24:31Speaker 1: know if they'll get to the, the AFC, but I
- 24:34Speaker 1: think the, the AFC championship game, I think it's going
- 24:36Speaker 1: to be the Ravens and the Jaguars. Okay. That's why
- 24:40Speaker 1: I think it's going to be, I, man, I think
- 24:43Speaker 1: the Jags are going to be a pretty damn good
- 24:44Speaker 1: team this year. I really do.
- 24:46Speaker 2: So yeah, I feel like I still have some kind
- 24:49Speaker 2: of bias towards them because they're in Jacksonville.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:52Speaker 2: And Trevor Lawrence just, he was that topic and I
- 24:56Speaker 2: don't know if I trust him.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Big spots still. So, yeah, I still I still still
- 25:01Speaker 2: scared to pick them.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. All right. Well, let's move to the NFC
- 25:06Speaker 1: championship game. Who do you think that's going to be?
- 25:10Speaker 2: I think I think I think Ram Seahawks again.
- 25:12Speaker 1: OK.
- 25:13Speaker 2: All right. Yeah.
- 25:15Speaker 1: I swear to God, I know I'm doing Homer stuff.
- 25:17Speaker 1: I think it's going to be Eagles Rams.
- 25:19Speaker 3: OK. Yep. All right.
- 25:21Speaker 2: What's the Super Bowl, Jeff?
- 25:22Speaker 1: Super Bowl. I am going to be going with Rams
- 25:25Speaker 1: and Jaguars for the Super Bowl this year. No, I
- 25:28Speaker 1: don't believe the Eagles are going to make the Super
- 25:29Speaker 1: Bowl this year. So as sad as that sounds, I'm
- 25:33Speaker 1: not going to do the Homer thing. Eagles are going
- 25:35Speaker 1: to win it all, everybody. But no, I think I
- 25:38Speaker 1: and I was talking before about the Rams and the
- 25:40Speaker 1: hype with them. You know, at the end of the day,
- 25:42Speaker 1: you know, there are teams that win the Super Bowl
- 25:44Speaker 1: sometimes that you're like, really, should they have? Case in point,
- 25:47Speaker 1: Seattle Seahawks last year. I don't know.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Should have won it. So what's your Superbowl prediction here?
- 25:55Speaker 1: I think Texans Rams, Texans Rams. Okay. The Superbowl. Yep. Okay.
- 26:00Speaker 1: And I, I end up, I think the Rams are
- 26:02Speaker 1: going to win it this year.
- 26:03Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 26:04Speaker 1: We were talking about the Superbowl hype and stuff. Who
- 26:06Speaker 1: do you think? I like the Texans. All right.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Okay.
- 26:10Speaker 2: I was going to, I was going to say they're
- 26:11Speaker 2: my sleeper team, but they actually made the playoffs last year.
- 26:14Speaker 2: So I couldn't put them in a sleep, but I,
- 26:16Speaker 2: Top tier sleeper team. I think my Texas were the team.
- 26:20Speaker 2: I think we're going to win the whole thing. I
- 26:21Speaker 2: just think that defense is going to be so fucking scary.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Like Ravens-esque in the early 2000s. And like I said,
- 26:28Speaker 2: if that offense can just give you enough, I think
- 26:31Speaker 2: that's the formula for them to win. Almost like with
- 26:33Speaker 2: Seattle last year, their defense by the end of the
- 26:35Speaker 2: year was just killing. It slaughtered the Patriots and their
- 26:39Speaker 2: offense was just good enough. A little better than good enough.
- 26:41Speaker 2: They had JSN and Darnold was good. I think Texas
- 26:44Speaker 2: will just have that same formula and write it to
- 26:46Speaker 2: a Superbowl.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I can't wait to reflect on these predictions. Oh, I mean, terrible. Oh,
- 26:51Speaker 1: I love it. I can't wait to reflect on them. So,
- 26:54Speaker 1: all right, we're going to take a break. Everybody, when
- 26:56Speaker 1: we come back, I'm going to start our Eagle season preview,
- 26:59Speaker 1: talk about the Eagles and going to talk to Brandon
- 27:02Speaker 1: Lee Goughton as well, BLG in a few minutes. So
- 27:05Speaker 1: stick with us.
- 27:09Speaker 3: All right.
- 27:09Speaker 1: We are back and excuse me to start this Eagles season.
- 27:13Speaker 1: season preview part of the podcast here. Who do you
- 27:17Speaker 1: think is going to be the offensive MVP on this
- 27:20Speaker 1: Eagles team here? So we've got offensive MVP. We're going
- 27:22Speaker 1: to get into defensive MVP and then a few other
- 27:25Speaker 1: categories here as well. Before we get to our interview
- 27:28Speaker 1: with BLG offensive MVP, who do you think that's going
- 27:31Speaker 1: to be, Eric?
- 27:32Speaker 2: I think Saquon.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Okay.
- 27:34Speaker 2: He's, he's bound for another breakout season.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Yep. Just phenomenal.
- 27:39Speaker 2: And 24 didn't do shit last year for the most part. Um,
- 27:43Speaker 2: and it had a lot to do with poopoo holes,
- 27:45Speaker 2: I think.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Offensive line stuff. Yeah. Yeah. I, I, I think.
- 27:51Speaker 2: If he, we talked about, you know, I, I, I
- 27:54Speaker 2: didn't even have them winning the division, but if Saquon
- 27:57Speaker 2: has a huge breakout season, like I think he can,
- 27:59Speaker 2: that might vault the Eagles into like, now we're talking
- 28:02Speaker 2: like maybe they're in the NFC title game. So I I'm, I'm,
- 28:06Speaker 2: I'm leaning in that direction. I'm hoping it happens. I
- 28:07Speaker 2: think Saquon is like the linchpin. I feel like Jalen hurts.
- 28:12Speaker 2: We just talked about like how he gets kind of
- 28:13Speaker 2: bad mouths and stuff.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:15Speaker 2: I just, he just has to like not make mistakes
- 28:17Speaker 2: and just make, you know, three to four amazing plays,
- 28:21Speaker 2: keep the offense moving down the field. But I think
- 28:23Speaker 2: Saquon is the spark plug that can like lead them
- 28:25Speaker 2: to possibly going to the super bowl. But he's, he's
- 28:28Speaker 2: the key to it.
- 28:28Speaker 1: The whole thing. I think Jay, see, I was going
- 28:32Speaker 1: back and forth, whether this should be Jalen, actually going
- 28:34Speaker 1: back and forth between three, whether it should be Jalen hurts,
- 28:37Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley, or even Devante Smith, because I think, At
- 28:41Speaker 1: the end of the day, I do think Saquon Barkley
- 28:44Speaker 1: is going to hit about 1,400 yards. I think that
- 28:46Speaker 1: is absolutely possible. And I think that Devontae Smith, probably
- 28:51Speaker 1: around 1,300 yards. I think that's absolutely possible too. I mean,
- 28:54Speaker 1: he's had 1,000 receiving yards during the course of his
- 28:57Speaker 1: tenure on this Eagles team. And since he was drafted,
- 29:01Speaker 1: he absolutely can do that 1,300 yards. But if Saquon
- 29:04Speaker 1: gets that 1,400 yards, he is absolutely going to be
- 29:07Speaker 1: the MVP. So I'm with you on this one for sure. So,
- 29:11Speaker 1: all right. The defensive MVP, who do you think that
- 29:14Speaker 1: is going to be this coming season?
- 29:17Speaker 2: To me, I think it's, it's going to be Quinn Young.
- 29:20Speaker 2: I think this is the year he's going to get
- 29:21Speaker 2: vaulted up into the Patrick Sertan, you know, quarterback tier
- 29:26Speaker 2: or cornerback tiers.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Like just, just the, you know, the best in the league.
- 29:31Speaker 2: I think he'll be like mentioned as one of the top,
- 29:34Speaker 2: like one of the top three guys by the end
- 29:36Speaker 2: of this year. It's just, he has all the skills.
- 29:38Speaker 2: This is his third season. Um, he has far more
- 29:42Speaker 2: help on the other side now with the guy from Seattle.
- 29:46Speaker 2: I think, uh, Dajin is in the right spot now.
- 29:49Speaker 2: So I think they're secondaries. I mean, Makuba comes back
- 29:51Speaker 2: from injury.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Like they, they're just much, they're, they're, set up for
- 29:55Speaker 2: him to become like an elite, elite cornerback. I think
- 29:58Speaker 2: he's going to be the MVP defensively.
- 30:01Speaker 1: I actually am going to go with a gentleman who,
- 30:03Speaker 1: and I'm not trying to do a hot take here,
- 30:05Speaker 1: but I'm going to go with Jalek's hunt because I
- 30:09Speaker 1: think his trajectory is heading towards being a double digit
- 30:16Speaker 1: sack leader. Last year, he had six and a half sacks.
- 30:20Speaker 1: I'm predicting that this year he's going to get at
- 30:22Speaker 1: least 13 or 14 sacks. Yes, they brought Jonathan Grenard
- 30:27Speaker 1: in to be that next sack leader type of guy.
- 30:32Speaker 1: He's been dealing with an injury. We haven't seen much
- 30:37Speaker 1: of him. Yes, he's been practicing. He's going to probably
- 30:39Speaker 1: be here a little sooner than later. But I think
- 30:43Speaker 1: Jalex Hunt, his development and his trajectory is going to
- 30:46Speaker 1: end up Getting this team to that next level in
- 30:49Speaker 1: terms of sacks, something we've talked about, this team hasn't
- 30:52Speaker 1: been really huge with sacks except that one, what was it, 2022,
- 30:58Speaker 1: when they were just crazy with the sacks. I think
- 31:02Speaker 1: it's going to be JLX Hunt. That's who I'm going
- 31:03Speaker 1: with to be the defensive MVP this year.
- 31:07Speaker 2: I've liked his career so far, where they drafted him.
- 31:11Speaker 2: It was one of those, whatever you get out of
- 31:12Speaker 2: this guy is a bonus, and he's actually well beyond
- 31:15Speaker 2: that point.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. All right. Let's get into some categories
- 31:20Speaker 1: here before we get to our interview with BLG, who's
- 31:22Speaker 1: going to be the comeback kid this season on this
- 31:25Speaker 1: Eagles team. Who are you predicting that to be Eric?
- 31:29Speaker 2: Uh, Dallas Goddard. I think he's got one more ride
- 31:32Speaker 2: in him. Like the, you know, the, the, like Billy,
- 31:35Speaker 2: the kid, like the cowboy, I think this is like
- 31:37Speaker 2: his last, last ride into the sunset. Um, The way
- 31:42Speaker 2: the offense is going to be run this year, hopefully,
- 31:44Speaker 2: we haven't actually seen it yet. I just think there's
- 31:47Speaker 2: a lot of opportunities for him over the middle to
- 31:49Speaker 2: make plays. And if Makai Lemon and Smith and Barkley
- 31:54Speaker 2: out of the backfield are just as explosive as some
- 31:57Speaker 2: think it might be, that just opens up the middle
- 31:59Speaker 2: of the field for Dallas Goddard. Like I said, I
- 32:02Speaker 2: think he's got one more good season. I think this
- 32:04Speaker 2: is going to be one of his best seasons, honestly. Yeah.
- 32:07Speaker 1: I'm actually not going to go with a skilled player here.
- 32:09Speaker 1: I'm going to go with a guy on the offensive line,
- 32:11Speaker 1: and I'm going to go with Cam Juergens. And yes,
- 32:14Speaker 1: the injuries played a major part in why he just
- 32:17Speaker 1: absolutely stunk last year, was one of the worst centers
- 32:20Speaker 1: in the NFL. But when you have that solid center position,
- 32:24Speaker 1: as we know he has done in the past, when
- 32:26Speaker 1: he's been healthy, if he is able to get back
- 32:30Speaker 1: to form, I think he is going to be the
- 32:32Speaker 1: comeback kid And it's going to bode well for the
- 32:36Speaker 1: rushing attack and Saquon Barkley, perhaps getting to that 1400
- 32:39Speaker 1: yards rushing that I talked about earlier. So I'm going
- 32:42Speaker 1: to go with Cam Juergens this year for the comeback
- 32:44Speaker 1: kid award. All right. So what do you think of
- 32:49Speaker 1: that one?
- 32:51Speaker 2: Oh, no, it's it's a really good one, because, you know,
- 32:55Speaker 2: if he plays well, he's there. He's your sturdy center,
- 33:00Speaker 2: like just like Kelsey was every game. Yeah, that just
- 33:02Speaker 2: helped the entire offensive line. You know, once the center
- 33:05Speaker 2: goes down, things can get a little shaky. Little Lane
- 33:08Speaker 2: Johnson goes down there like, oh, shit, we you know,
- 33:10Speaker 2: we're in trouble. But like if you have the steady middle,
- 33:13Speaker 2: the guard in the center, I I'm hoping. Like you said,
- 33:18Speaker 2: that'll open up the entire field for the offense.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Absolutely. All right. Well, got a couple more categories here.
- 33:24Speaker 1: The rising star on this team. Who do you think
- 33:27Speaker 1: the rising star is going to be here?
- 33:30Speaker 2: I love Nolan Smith Jr. this year. Okay. Seems like
- 33:34Speaker 2: he's finally healthy. And just the way his playing style,
- 33:41Speaker 2: he's an attacker. And Vic Fangio, I think, wants to attack,
- 33:45Speaker 2: especially with those guys in the middle, Davis and Carter,
- 33:49Speaker 2: just taking up all that space and allowing the guys
- 33:52Speaker 2: on the edge to come along. I just feel like
- 33:55Speaker 2: Nolan Smith is due for a breakout where he's also
- 33:58Speaker 2: mentioned like, top tier outside linebacker. I think he's due
- 34:03Speaker 2: for a really good season if he's healthy.
- 34:05Speaker 1: I like it. I like it a lot. I like,
- 34:08Speaker 1: I do. I'm going to go a little more, I
- 34:10Speaker 1: think unconventional and maybe because this is more, excuse me,
- 34:14Speaker 1: of a hope for me, but I'm going to go
- 34:16Speaker 1: with Andrew Makuba as being the rising star this season,
- 34:21Speaker 1: rough first year in the NFL, rough rookie season. It's
- 34:24Speaker 1: tough being a safety. We're going from the college ranks
- 34:27Speaker 1: right to the NFL and, But, you know, look, Fangio's
- 34:32Speaker 1: defense relies heavily on versatile, smart defensive backs who can
- 34:36Speaker 1: really excel in deep zones, make plays in space. And
- 34:41Speaker 1: these are traits that Andrew Makuba displayed early, including an
- 34:45Speaker 1: interception against Patrick Mahomes, by the way. So I think
- 34:49Speaker 1: he is going to continue to develop should he stay healthy.
- 34:53Speaker 1: And I think he's definitely a rising star on this
- 34:56Speaker 1: team for sure. So as we're moving along the dark
- 34:59Speaker 1: horse MVP of this season, I'm just going to say
- 35:02Speaker 1: what my prediction was. Cause you've already mentioned him, Dallas Goddard.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I think he's going to be the dark horse MVP
- 35:07Speaker 1: of this season here for everything that you just said.
- 35:11Speaker 1: So I'm not going to repeat what you just said,
- 35:12Speaker 1: but yeah, go ahead. Who's, who's your dark horse MVP?
- 35:17Speaker 1: Dark horse. Grenard. Okay.
- 35:20Speaker 2: I think he was, I think he left Minnesota. It
- 35:23Speaker 2: wasn't like, wasn't great for him there anymore. I have
- 35:26Speaker 2: no idea. Like the, To trade away that good of
- 35:28Speaker 2: a player for what they got back, it felt a
- 35:31Speaker 2: little weird. But I'll take it. It was a great
- 35:34Speaker 2: move by Howie. They need a semi-elite edge rusher because
- 35:40Speaker 2: they just don't have one. And he definitely fits the bill.
- 35:43Speaker 2: And he's definitely never played with two tackles like he's
- 35:46Speaker 2: about to with Carter and Davis. And that should open
- 35:50Speaker 2: up the edge for him. I'm envisioning an attacking defense
- 35:55Speaker 2: where Nolan Smith is over here and you got Grenard
- 35:58Speaker 2: coming off the edge and it's just pressure, pressure, pressure.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:02Speaker 2: And that's, that's how they won in two years ago.
- 36:04Speaker 2: So he's another guy. If, if, if he has a
- 36:07Speaker 2: monster season, say as like 13 sacks and Saquon has
- 36:11Speaker 2: a monster season, I think he's the key to the
- 36:13Speaker 2: defense having a elite season. Cause they, I mentioned Quinn,
- 36:18Speaker 2: you got the two tackles, like Jay is going to
- 36:21Speaker 2: be great. Zach Bond's always great. But like, if they
- 36:24Speaker 2: can have, an edge rusher who just pressures the quarterback
- 36:27Speaker 2: and that's his only job, they need that. And that's
- 36:30Speaker 2: what they had two years ago with Josh Sweat. And
- 36:31Speaker 2: I think this is his opportunity to be an MVP-type
- 36:38Speaker 2: level player in this situation. And it's all set up
- 36:41Speaker 2: for him.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Great points. Great points. And I think what we're talking
- 36:44Speaker 1: about here is the fact that this Eagles defense can
- 36:46Speaker 1: really be a top five defense in the NFL at
- 36:50Speaker 1: the end of the day, they can be a top
- 36:51Speaker 1: five defense. And it leads me to, you know, why
- 36:55Speaker 1: I think the record is going to be what it is.
- 36:57Speaker 1: And it's why I think they're going to be the
- 36:58Speaker 1: division winner as well. Their record, I'm predicting 11 and
- 37:03Speaker 1: six on the season. And I think Dallas is probably
- 37:06Speaker 1: going to be right under that at 10 and seven.
- 37:09Speaker 1: That's why I have Dallas going into the playoffs as
- 37:11Speaker 1: a wild card. But what do you think the Eagles
- 37:14Speaker 1: are regular season records going to be here?
- 37:15Speaker 2: 10 and seven.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Okay.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Um, went through the, went through their schedule multiple times.
- 37:21Speaker 2: And I, I came out of it once eight and nine.
- 37:25Speaker 2: I came out of it once 11 and six. It,
- 37:29Speaker 2: this is a tough one this year. I don't, I'm
- 37:30Speaker 2: not sure what to like there. I think they're playing
- 37:33Speaker 2: at Jacksonville, which is a really weird game. Um, they
- 37:37Speaker 2: got the chiefs again. I have no, like even within
- 37:41Speaker 2: the division, they're going to have one weird commander's game.
- 37:43Speaker 2: They always do. Even though it's command, I think the
- 37:45Speaker 2: commander is going to suck. They're always going to have
- 37:47Speaker 2: one kooky Giants game. I'm hoping they catch them when
- 37:50Speaker 2: Scataboo and Dart are in the hospital because that could
- 37:54Speaker 2: very well happen. And Dallas, who the hell knows? I
- 37:59Speaker 2: think they're going to be really good. But we've seen
- 38:01Speaker 2: this before with Dallas. And I haven't heard a lot
- 38:05Speaker 2: about them on ESPN. I don't watch ESPN too much,
- 38:09Speaker 2: but the fact that it's almost quiet about them is
- 38:12Speaker 2: good for them.
- 38:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:14Speaker 2: So that's why I think I went 10 and seven
- 38:15Speaker 2: to go in the division because like people aren't talking
- 38:17Speaker 2: about them.
- 38:18Speaker 3: Right.
- 38:18Speaker 2: But I, I, I just think like the Eagles on
- 38:21Speaker 2: a much better position than they were last year. And they, they,
- 38:25Speaker 2: they flamed out in the playoffs. I think they're, they're
- 38:29Speaker 2: a better team than they were last year. Better roster.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:31Speaker 2: Even with losing, losing AJ Brown, who's probably already gone.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Apparently high ankle sprain.
- 38:36Speaker 1: High ankle sprain.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Yep.
- 38:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:39Speaker 2: So I, I, I finally went through it again. I'm like,
- 38:42Speaker 2: all right, just, factor in the kooky games. They got
- 38:45Speaker 2: the bears in Chicago. Like it's, it's, it's not an
- 38:47Speaker 2: easy schedule. So I landed on 10 and seven. I
- 38:50Speaker 2: think Cowboys are gonna be the same record and they'll
- 38:53Speaker 2: just get the tiebreaker from the division record. But I
- 38:56Speaker 2: can totally see this team going 12 and five.
- 38:59Speaker 1: It wouldn't shock me.
- 39:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:00Speaker 1: We'll see. We're going to do a, we're going to
- 39:02Speaker 1: do a reflections episode at some point.
- 39:05Speaker 2: I absolutely like three and 14.
- 39:08Speaker 3: Exactly. Yeah.
- 39:11Speaker 1: The Raiders will go 14 and three, you know, But
- 39:14Speaker 1: I like this.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Other shows don't do this. They don't look back and
- 39:17Speaker 2: be like, oh, I'm an idiot.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Exactly. I was a total idiot. I love doing that.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Because we're idiots. Yes. All right, buddy. I'm going to
- 39:25Speaker 1: let you go. And we are going to be getting
- 39:28Speaker 1: to BLG here. We're going to be talking more Eagles.
- 39:32Speaker 1: We're going to talk Jalen Carter, Sean Mannion, the offense,
- 39:35Speaker 1: what we're going to see a Jalen hurts as well.
- 39:38Speaker 1: And how that receiver room is going to end up
- 39:41Speaker 1: hopefully gelling stick with us. We will be back in
- 39:44Speaker 1: just a bit. And now on the table, Joining us
- 39:52Speaker 1: to dive into this Philadelphia Eagles team in more detail
- 39:55Speaker 1: as this regular season is on the horizon here. I
- 39:59Speaker 1: cannot believe we are actually going to have real life
- 40:02Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles football right before us. We have from bleeding
- 40:05Speaker 1: green nation.com. He's been joining us for years and years
- 40:08Speaker 1: and years. The one and only Brandon league out in BLG.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Thanks so much for joining us, buddy.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Thanks for having me excited to be here prior to
- 40:16Speaker 3: the start of another Philadelphia Eagles season.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Absolutely, dude. You know, Eric and I were just talking,
- 40:21Speaker 1: giving some predictions and things like that. And we're certainly
- 40:23Speaker 1: going to be talking about some predictions as well as
- 40:26Speaker 1: we close our discussion. But to open the discussion, I
- 40:30Speaker 1: really want to start with what we're going to see
- 40:32Speaker 1: from this Eagles offense this season. We've all been talking
- 40:35Speaker 1: about it during the course of this offseason. We've all
- 40:37Speaker 1: been talking about it during preseason. during camp. We're seeing
- 40:40Speaker 1: what Sean Mannion is doing. And I want to really
- 40:43Speaker 1: just dive into the consistency aspect of what we may see,
- 40:47Speaker 1: because last year we saw one of the most inconsistent
- 40:51Speaker 1: Eagles offenses ever. You know, they go three and out,
- 40:54Speaker 1: say four or five times. And then all of a
- 40:56Speaker 1: sudden they would score like three touchdowns in a row.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Like it was nothing, or they would just come out
- 41:00Speaker 1: strong in the first half. And then they couldn't get
- 41:02Speaker 1: more than maybe 20 yards of offense during the third
- 41:05Speaker 1: quarter or even the second half at times. So BLG,
- 41:08Speaker 1: what will we see in terms of a more consistent
- 41:12Speaker 1: offense with Sean Mannion this coming season? And will we
- 41:15Speaker 1: actually even see a more consistent offense in an offense
- 41:18Speaker 1: that seems to maybe be more balanced, perhaps? What are
- 41:20Speaker 1: your thoughts here?
- 41:21Speaker 3: I hate to take the cop-out answer from the jump,
- 41:23Speaker 3: but I think the real projection going into this is
- 41:28Speaker 3: we don't know because there's so many unknowns here when
- 41:31Speaker 3: it comes to a new play caller who not even
- 41:35Speaker 3: just hasn't done it before, has very little coaching experience, period.
- 41:39Speaker 3: It's possible Sean Manion is a great coach. That's on
- 41:42Speaker 3: the table, but we don't know, and we don't know
- 41:45Speaker 3: based on what we've seen in training camp. There are
- 41:47Speaker 3: some positive signs, absolutely, There's also moments where it was
- 41:50Speaker 3: tough sledding for this offense, especially in the passing attack.
- 41:54Speaker 3: Looking out of sync, I would say a little bit
- 41:56Speaker 3: more than you would like to see. Yeah, which is
- 41:58Speaker 3: funny because I actually feel encouraged about the offense overall
- 42:02Speaker 3: and where I do think we could see more consistency
- 42:04Speaker 3: this year is the run game. And that's a huge
- 42:06Speaker 3: deal because if the Eagles can get this running game
- 42:09Speaker 3: back on track. You know, I have a hard time
- 42:11Speaker 3: believing it'll be on the 2024 level. It's obviously such
- 42:15Speaker 3: a high bar to reach. But I do think it'll
- 42:17Speaker 3: be better than it was last year and somewhere below
- 42:20Speaker 3: that 2024 level, which then I think and I think
- 42:23Speaker 3: the Eagles think about it this way. Everything in the
- 42:25Speaker 3: passing attack might kind of start to fall into place
- 42:27Speaker 3: a bit there on the whole. I just don't think
- 42:30Speaker 3: it's going to be smooth sailing for this offense all
- 42:32Speaker 3: the way through. I really don't, based on what we
- 42:34Speaker 3: saw in training camp and how just logically it feels
- 42:37Speaker 3: like they might need some time to find their stride.
- 42:39Speaker 1: First few weeks could be rough. First few weeks could
- 42:41Speaker 1: be really rough.
- 42:42Speaker 3: And even then, maybe it won't just because you look
- 42:45Speaker 3: at the schedule. Maybe they beat up on the Commanders
- 42:48Speaker 3: and Titans, but maybe it's a couple games after that.
- 42:51Speaker 3: Either way, I think there's going to be real ups
- 42:53Speaker 3: and downs with this offense, and it might come out
- 42:55Speaker 3: to the end of the year somewhere. Like, you know,
- 42:57Speaker 3: at a certain spot, like let's say just like middle
- 42:59Speaker 3: of the pack. But it might not feel like that.
- 43:01Speaker 3: It might feel like really good at times, might feel
- 43:03Speaker 3: bad at times. That's what I expect from them.
- 43:06Speaker 1: And I look at, you know, being an Eagles fan
- 43:08Speaker 1: and having been an Eagles fan my whole life, you know,
- 43:11Speaker 1: you see an offense doing one thing where it's not working.
- 43:14Speaker 1: You just want something different. And we're going to see
- 43:17Speaker 1: that with Sean Mannion's offense. I mean, there are going
- 43:19Speaker 1: to be differences there. And specifically, when we perhaps look
- 43:23Speaker 1: at Jalen Hurts. And I think that's a hope that
- 43:26Speaker 1: a lot of us in Eagles Nation have. Because look,
- 43:29Speaker 1: we know that Jalen Hurts, he loves his ISO routes
- 43:32Speaker 1: on the outside. That's his comfort zone. It always has been.
- 43:36Speaker 1: But I'm wondering, BLG, do you think we are going
- 43:39Speaker 1: to see something different from Hurts this year? And especially
- 43:42Speaker 1: since he's got a new wide receiver cast here. Each
- 43:44Speaker 1: of them bringing a little bit something different than A.J.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Brown this year. brought to the team for the past
- 43:50Speaker 1: few years. I do wonder if he might get outside
- 43:52Speaker 1: of that comfort zone and whether Sean Mannion will be
- 43:54Speaker 1: able to push him outside of that comfort zone. What
- 43:57Speaker 1: are your thoughts here?
- 43:58Speaker 3: I like the framing there you just used when it
- 44:00Speaker 3: comes to comfort zone. Because I think we're seeing evidence
- 44:02Speaker 3: of Jalen Hurts going outside of that in training camp.
- 44:05Speaker 3: I think he was passing over the middle a lot
- 44:07Speaker 3: more than he has in the past. It's obviously anecdotal.
- 44:11Speaker 3: And we'll see if it translates to the regular season games.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Right.
- 44:14Speaker 3: But I do think there's been an uptick in aggression,
- 44:17Speaker 3: which I think is needed for what this offense was
- 44:19Speaker 3: last year. It's not even just like, oh, the scheme
- 44:22Speaker 3: was bad or whatever. It's like also they just weren't
- 44:24Speaker 3: aggressive as they could have been and should have been really,
- 44:26Speaker 3: especially with the talent that they had. So I do
- 44:29Speaker 3: think we're seeing positive signs in terms of the on
- 44:32Speaker 3: field results and training camp, what we've seen there. And
- 44:34Speaker 3: then also just the way. jalen seems to be approaching
- 44:38Speaker 3: it and in the way everyone talks about him he
- 44:40Speaker 3: seems to really be embracing this and isn't just yeah
- 44:43Speaker 3: you know putting it aside and being like yeah it's
- 44:45Speaker 3: another new offense blah blah blah which he kind of
- 44:47Speaker 3: was in 2024 i mean there was that line about
- 44:49Speaker 3: how he said like 95 of the offense is new
- 44:51Speaker 3: or whatever he didn't sound very excited when he said
- 44:54Speaker 3: that it's different he does seem to be embracing and
- 44:57Speaker 3: kind of realizing that okay obviously he's had a lot
- 45:00Speaker 3: of success it's not like the Eagles are saying, and
- 45:03Speaker 3: everyone is saying you have to scrap literally everything you
- 45:05Speaker 3: did before. It's about building on what you've done and
- 45:08Speaker 3: introducing some new elements and evolving. And I think he
- 45:11Speaker 3: seems to be up for that challenge.
- 45:13Speaker 1: From all reports. And you mentioned the rushing attack earlier
- 45:16Speaker 1: and what we may be seeing. And I wanted to
- 45:18Speaker 1: hone in on this and dive into it a little
- 45:19Speaker 1: bit more BLG because, you know, we are, I think
- 45:22Speaker 1: we are going to see a little something different with
- 45:24Speaker 1: the rushing attack, what Sean Mannion is bringing to this offense.
- 45:27Speaker 1: I mean, we're going to certainly see more under center and,
- 45:29Speaker 1: more pistol formations, kind of moving away from that heavy
- 45:32Speaker 1: shotgun-based formations that we've seen in the past. And we
- 45:36Speaker 1: also may see, I mean, outside of Saquon Barkley, we
- 45:39Speaker 1: may also see Tank Bigsby getting a little bit more
- 45:42Speaker 1: involved in this offense. I mean, it was remarkable last year.
- 45:45Speaker 1: They'd run him three times. He'd get eight, six, five yards,
- 45:49Speaker 1: and then you wouldn't hear from him again. Tank Bigsby
- 45:52Speaker 1: hopefully going to be part of this offense a little
- 45:55Speaker 1: bit more than last season as well. Look, they were
- 45:57Speaker 1: ranked 18th in rushing last season. I think they can
- 46:01Speaker 1: be better. I think they will be better than 18th
- 46:02Speaker 1: in the league when it comes to the rushing attack
- 46:05Speaker 1: at the end of the season. But with this rushing attack,
- 46:08Speaker 1: do you think we're going to see that improvement from
- 46:10Speaker 1: last year? And how do you think the rushing game
- 46:12Speaker 1: really manifests itself throughout this season here?
- 46:15Speaker 3: I do think they will be better at running the
- 46:17Speaker 3: football in part because their offensive line is healthier. I'm
- 46:20Speaker 3: not saying there's no questions there. Cam Juergens has had
- 46:24Speaker 3: back injury. That's a significant injury. He looks healthy to
- 46:27Speaker 3: me now, but that's something you have to always file away.
- 46:30Speaker 3: Back injuries typically just don't get magically better. So we'll
- 46:34Speaker 3: keep an eye on that. I feel good about him, though.
- 46:36Speaker 3: I don't feel as good about Landon Dickerson, who just
- 46:38Speaker 3: did not look to be fully what he used to
- 46:41Speaker 3: be to me in training camp. It's not that I'm
- 46:43Speaker 3: worried about him not being out there, because Landon is
- 46:45Speaker 3: very tough. I have no doubt about it when it
- 46:47Speaker 3: comes to him suiting up. It's just like, how close
- 46:51Speaker 3: is he going to be to that previous Pro Bowl
- 46:53Speaker 3: version of himself? Like, I have questions about that. But
- 46:56Speaker 3: across the board, you know, Jordan Mailata looks healthy. Knock
- 46:59Speaker 3: on wood. Same thing, Lane Johnson. Tyler Steen is going
- 47:02Speaker 3: into a contract year. I think he had a good summer.
- 47:04Speaker 3: So the health of the offensive line. On the whole,
- 47:06Speaker 3: and obviously just not coming off of that same massive
- 47:08Speaker 3: rushing workload that they carried in 2024 over into 2025,
- 47:13Speaker 3: I feel better about them. I feel really good about Saquon.
- 47:16Speaker 3: He looks poised for another big year, involved maybe a
- 47:20Speaker 3: little bit more in the passing game and training camp.
- 47:21Speaker 3: Is that real? It's hard to say because we see
- 47:25Speaker 3: this every summer, and then it doesn't show up in
- 47:27Speaker 3: the regular season. So we'll see it then and actually
- 47:30Speaker 3: believe it then. But from what I'm seeing, again, in
- 47:33Speaker 3: the practices, that's what I'm seeing. So and then the
- 47:36Speaker 3: schematic changes go into that as well. And the way
- 47:38Speaker 3: the offensive linemen have talked about and even Saquon has
- 47:41Speaker 3: talked about how some of the things that Sean Manning
- 47:44Speaker 3: is bringing to the table can help them. So on
- 47:46Speaker 3: the whole. And also, I'm going to add this in there.
- 47:48Speaker 3: I think Jalen Hurts is going to be more involved
- 47:50Speaker 3: as a runner this year than he was last year.
- 47:52Speaker 1: I hope so. Yeah.
- 47:54Speaker 3: And he needs to be quite frank. Yeah, I think like.
- 47:57Speaker 3: It's a tough line to balance because if he's doing
- 48:00Speaker 3: it all the time, then there's going to be articles
- 48:02Speaker 3: and questions. You've got to protect Jalen. He's running too much.
- 48:05Speaker 3: So it's a fine line. But I think we can
- 48:07Speaker 3: all agree when you look at his rushing attempts over
- 48:10Speaker 3: his career and where he was at prior to last
- 48:12Speaker 3: year and you look at last year, there's a way
- 48:14Speaker 3: to bridge the gap there and put him somewhere in
- 48:16Speaker 3: the middle. Last year was too low. And apparently there
- 48:20Speaker 3: was a big factor in there of, you know, his
- 48:22Speaker 3: own preference. I'm kind of of the mind that maybe
- 48:25Speaker 3: he realized that he needs that to uptick a little
- 48:27Speaker 3: bit more. So when you combine all that together, there's
- 48:30Speaker 3: real reason for optimism for this running game.
- 48:32Speaker 1: I think there is as well. And I think better
- 48:34Speaker 1: than 18th in the league is certainly what they are
- 48:38Speaker 1: going to end with, uh, actually a top 10 league
- 48:41Speaker 1: in or a top 10 team in rushing in this league.
- 48:43Speaker 1: Absolutely possible. Again, folks, we're talking to Brandon Lee gout
- 48:46Speaker 1: and BLG from bleeding green nation.com at Brandon gout and
- 48:50Speaker 1: over on the Twitter slash X and, uh, throw out
- 48:52Speaker 1: some more promos, buddy. Uh, you're, you're all over the
- 48:55Speaker 1: place on the interwebs.
- 48:57Speaker 3: Yeah. It's hard to keep track of. I feel like sometimes, but, um,
- 49:00Speaker 3: NFC East Mixtape Podcast is back, so I'm excited to
- 49:03Speaker 3: do that each week, two times a week, with RJ
- 49:05Speaker 3: Ocella from Blogging the Boys. You can check that out
- 49:07Speaker 3: on the NFC East Mixtape YouTube channel. Subscribe, like, and
- 49:12Speaker 3: then it's also audio only on the Bleeding Green Nation
- 49:16Speaker 3: podcast feed for the sake of your Eagles listeners here.
- 49:19Speaker 3: guessing that's where they want to go um also SB
- 49:22Speaker 3: Nation app.
- 49:23Speaker 1: Check that out. Oh, yes. I've downloaded it. It's nice.
- 49:26Speaker 1: It's nice.
- 49:27Speaker 3: Isn't it like it is a smooth.
- 49:29Speaker 1: Yes.
- 49:30Speaker 3: Look, I'm a company man here. I'm promoting it. But
- 49:32Speaker 3: like I genuinely think it makes it easier to Peru,
- 49:36Speaker 3: especially if you're going to multiple.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:39Speaker 3: You know, and this is a podcast here that covers
- 49:40Speaker 3: all the Philly sports teams that are going to the
- 49:42Speaker 3: other SB Nation Philly sites as well. It's easy to
- 49:44Speaker 3: swipe over to those.
- 49:45Speaker 1: There's not a lot of crap on the app. There's
- 49:48Speaker 1: not a lot of crap. I like it. I agree.
- 49:49Speaker 3: Yes, it's very streamlined and smooth. So check out the
- 49:51Speaker 3: SB Nation app as well. And then PHLY Eagles game day,
- 49:55Speaker 3: going to be doing pregame, postgame there at PHLY Eagles.
- 49:59Speaker 3: Brandon Graham will be on the show as well, in
- 50:02Speaker 3: addition to all the other talented members there at the
- 50:03Speaker 3: PHLY Eagles crew. So you can check me out there
- 50:06Speaker 3: as well.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Very good. We are going to take a break, folks.
- 50:08Speaker 1: When we get back, we've got more of our Eagles
- 50:10Speaker 1: season preview coming your way. All right, we're back with
- 50:15Speaker 1: our buddy, Brendan Lee Gowton, BLG from bleedinggreennation.com over at
- 50:19Speaker 1: PHLY every now and again as well. And just all
- 50:22Speaker 1: over the interwebs, like we mentioned right before the break,
- 50:25Speaker 1: just search him out. He is everywhere. So as we
- 50:28Speaker 1: are moving along with our season preview here, BLG, I
- 50:32Speaker 1: really want to get into the defense and specifically Jalen
- 50:36Speaker 1: Carter and where he goes with his career. what his
- 50:41Speaker 1: play is going to be like on the field this year.
- 50:43Speaker 1: I mean, look, he's one of the best at what
- 50:45Speaker 1: he does in the NFL. He's gotten paid at this point.
- 50:49Speaker 1: He can do things that not too many other defensive
- 50:52Speaker 1: linemen can actually do in this league, but he also
- 50:54Speaker 1: needs to put together some consistency. I think there's no
- 50:57Speaker 1: argument there. What is that next step for Jalen Carter?
- 51:01Speaker 1: And how does that correlate with what the defensive front
- 51:05Speaker 1: is going to need to do this season?
- 51:08Speaker 3: I think the message has seemed to resonate with Dylan
- 51:11Speaker 3: Carter and Jordan Davis when it comes to– the Eagles
- 51:14Speaker 3: paid those guys not because of what they've done to
- 51:17Speaker 3: this point, but because of who they're going to be
- 51:19Speaker 3: moving forward. And Dylan Carter wasn't healthy last year, clearly,
- 51:23Speaker 3: and I think that was a big factor. They need
- 51:25Speaker 3: him to get back to the player he was, certainly,
- 51:27Speaker 3: in 2024. And I think what really would help in
- 51:31Speaker 3: terms of like making it feel like this contract is
- 51:34Speaker 3: worth it and he's becoming the player they want him
- 51:37Speaker 3: to be is some of these more signature moments. Like
- 51:40Speaker 3: he had obviously the extreme example in a big way
- 51:43Speaker 3: is the Rams game. um in the playoffs a couple
- 51:46Speaker 3: years ago like i'm not saying you know it's not
- 51:48Speaker 3: realistic you're asking to do that every single week in
- 51:50Speaker 3: those big moments but yes we want them to but
- 51:53Speaker 3: you want some of those signature moments i think over
- 51:56Speaker 3: the course of the season along the way like a
- 51:57Speaker 3: big third down stop that he's involved in late in
- 52:00Speaker 3: the game or even like on first down in the
- 52:02Speaker 3: late drive where he gets a big sack and that
- 52:04Speaker 3: sets the other offense back we need some of those
- 52:07Speaker 3: like high leverage i feel like moments from him Or
- 52:10Speaker 3: if it's not going to be about him dominating in
- 52:12Speaker 3: those situations, maybe it's that he's drawing so much attention
- 52:15Speaker 3: that Mauro Jomo and Jordan Davis and other defensive linemen
- 52:18Speaker 3: are just like feasting on the quarterback. And it's apparent
- 52:21Speaker 3: that Jim Carter drawing all that extra attention is a
- 52:24Speaker 3: reason why.
- 52:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't wait to see where he goes and
- 52:27Speaker 1: if he is able to take it to that next
- 52:30Speaker 1: consistent level. But also, I think we need to talk about,
- 52:33Speaker 1: aside from the defensive front and what he's going to
- 52:35Speaker 1: do there, the secondary. Not that I'm concerned necessarily about
- 52:43Speaker 1: the secondary as a whole. I still think there's concern
- 52:46Speaker 1: about the safety position, especially with the development of Andrew Makuba,
- 52:50Speaker 1: what that's actually going to look like, BLG, and if
- 52:53Speaker 1: he's able to take that next step after some challenges
- 52:56Speaker 1: last season. We talked about consistency for Jalen Carter, but
- 53:00Speaker 1: Do we think and do you think we should have
- 53:03Speaker 1: any concerns with consistency regarding this secondary where there are
- 53:08Speaker 1: still some question marks with with Makuba, even with Rick
- 53:12Speaker 1: Wolin and what we're going to see from him? Yes,
- 53:13Speaker 1: he's a very good cornerback, but there are still questions
- 53:16Speaker 1: when it comes to this secondary. What are your thoughts here?
- 53:19Speaker 3: Yeah, on Woolen, I'll say that the numbers over his
- 53:22Speaker 3: career are very good in terms of– the numbers portray
- 53:26Speaker 3: a picture of a cornerback who's just consistently excellent. And
- 53:29Speaker 3: I think Rick Woolen is really good, to be clear.
- 53:32Speaker 3: But I do think also when you look at what
- 53:34Speaker 3: happened last year and how Seahawks ultimately chose former Eagle
- 53:38Speaker 3: Josh Jobe over him and the fact that I saw
- 53:41Speaker 3: some inconsistencies in training camp. And there's some volatility to
- 53:44Speaker 3: Riquelon's game. And it's not even necessarily a bad thing
- 53:47Speaker 3: because I think he's going to take chances at times.
- 53:49Speaker 3: And I think more often than not, he's going to
- 53:51Speaker 3: make big plays and that's going to be worth it.
- 53:53Speaker 3: I do think there will be moments over the course
- 53:55Speaker 3: of the season where he frustrates fans a little bit
- 53:58Speaker 3: sometimes and cost them maybe in a big moment or two.
- 54:01Speaker 3: So I'm not worried about him on the whole, but
- 54:03Speaker 3: I just do think we have to be kind of
- 54:05Speaker 3: eyes wide open about that, that there could be some
- 54:07Speaker 3: downs as well as the high highs. So I feel
- 54:10Speaker 3: good about the quarterbacks, obviously. And then the safety position.
- 54:14Speaker 3: I just have never been as worried about this, I guess,
- 54:16Speaker 3: as much as the consensus. OK. And part of that
- 54:19Speaker 3: is because I think Andrew Makuba, I'm just not worried
- 54:22Speaker 3: about him. Like, I don't. Is he going to be
- 54:24Speaker 3: a pro bowler? I don't know about that. I think
- 54:26Speaker 3: I've seen enough to feel comfortable projecting him as a
- 54:29Speaker 3: solid starter, which I'm good with that. And then Marcus Epps,
- 54:32Speaker 3: who is currently the leader at the other spot, I
- 54:34Speaker 3: would say– and this is obviously talking about nickel defense
- 54:36Speaker 3: because Cooper DeGene will be playing safety in base defense.
- 54:40Speaker 3: Marcus Epps is fine to me. Again, I'm not losing
- 54:42Speaker 3: sleep over the Eagles' safety situation. They're obviously thin there
- 54:45Speaker 3: from an injury standpoint. I also think Michael Carter, the second,
- 54:49Speaker 3: rather had a good summer season. And I don't want
- 54:52Speaker 3: him starting, but if he has to fill in, like
- 54:54Speaker 3: I'm not, I'm not panicking about the safety position and
- 54:57Speaker 3: maybe that's me underreacting, but I just think that they're
- 55:00Speaker 3: so stacked on defense everywhere else. If that's your weakest point,
- 55:03Speaker 3: I'm like, I can live with that.
- 55:04Speaker 1: Okay. Very good. Well, buddy, before I let you go,
- 55:07Speaker 1: want to get some predictions from you, Eric and I
- 55:09Speaker 1: were making some predictions earlier and want to get your
- 55:13Speaker 1: thoughts here from a few things in terms of the
- 55:16Speaker 1: Eagles offensive rankings at the end of this season. Let's
- 55:20Speaker 1: talk about pass offense and rush offense. Where do you
- 55:24Speaker 1: think this team is actually going to be ranked in
- 55:26Speaker 1: terms of the passing game and the rushing attack? What
- 55:29Speaker 1: are your thoughts here?
- 55:30Speaker 3: Yeah. So I think they were at 23rd and passing
- 55:32Speaker 3: last year, right around there. And they were actually 30th
- 55:35Speaker 3: in 2024 in parks. They just ran the ball so much.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Yes.
- 55:39Speaker 3: And so I think I'm going to go actually similar
- 55:42Speaker 3: to last year. And that's not even necessarily the worst
- 55:44Speaker 3: thing because I, From a game script perspective, like, you know,
- 55:48Speaker 3: it's not like passing yards are the number one goal
- 55:51Speaker 3: for this offense. I mean, it would be nice if
- 55:53Speaker 3: they shot up a big way, I think. But I
- 55:55Speaker 3: think realistically for what this team wants to play, like,
- 55:58Speaker 3: I don't think they necessarily need to go way up
- 56:00Speaker 3: for this to be a successful offense, for this to
- 56:02Speaker 3: be a successful season. So I'm only going to have
- 56:04Speaker 3: them like right around where they finished last year. I
- 56:06Speaker 3: think I put them at like 24th.
- 56:08Speaker 1: 24th? Okay, sounds good. The rushing attack, what do you
- 56:11Speaker 1: think in terms of that in your prediction there?
- 56:14Speaker 3: And that's why I'm going to go ultimately higher on them.
- 56:16Speaker 3: I'm going to have them at eighth. I think they're
- 56:18Speaker 3: going to be a top quarter of the league. And
- 56:20Speaker 3: maybe they could be higher than that. I might be
- 56:22Speaker 3: too low on that. Like, I feel... I feel good
- 56:23Speaker 3: about the rushing attack, especially relative to the passing attack.
- 56:26Speaker 3: I feel more comfortable projecting the level they're going to
- 56:30Speaker 3: reach at. And I think when you combine those together,
- 56:32Speaker 3: that's going to be somewhere around like 16th, which again
- 56:34Speaker 3: is a cop out. So I'm sitting on the fence
- 56:36Speaker 3: and just don't exactly know where to put this offense.
- 56:38Speaker 1: Right.
- 56:39Speaker 3: But that's how I feel about him right now.
- 56:40Speaker 1: We don't, and because we don't know what this wide
- 56:42Speaker 1: receiver room is really going to end up doing at
- 56:44Speaker 1: the end of the day. We're comfortable knowing what Devontae
- 56:46Speaker 1: Smith can do, but when it comes to Dontavian Wicks,
- 56:49Speaker 1: Elijah Moore, Hollywood Brown, Makai Lemon, if he's going to
- 56:52Speaker 1: develop his rookie season, there's a lot of unknowns. So
- 56:55Speaker 1: I don't think it's a cop-out at all, quite frankly.
- 56:57Speaker 1: But shifting gears over to the defensive side of the ball,
- 57:01Speaker 1: pass defense, rush defense, where do you think you're going
- 57:04Speaker 1: to be ranking them towards the end of the season?
- 57:07Speaker 3: I just say top five because I think it's going
- 57:08Speaker 3: to be a top five defense. I really do. There's
- 57:11Speaker 3: potential for things to go bad as there is for
- 57:16Speaker 3: any other team. Like, you know, maybe we'll all look
- 57:18Speaker 3: back at this and be like, we were way too confident.
- 57:20Speaker 3: Maybe the safety position is a bigger issue than I'm
- 57:22Speaker 3: making it out to be. But like, I really just
- 57:25Speaker 3: struggle to see it unless there's just, you know, like.
- 57:28Speaker 3: a ridiculous amount of injuries at a certain position that's
- 57:31Speaker 3: yeah that goes for any team no team is going
- 57:33Speaker 3: to survive that it's always the stacking of injuries like
- 57:35Speaker 3: that that can like really crush a team like barring
- 57:37Speaker 3: anything extreme like that like i think this defensive front
- 57:40Speaker 3: is really strong i feel couldn't feel better about them
- 57:43Speaker 3: basically an edge rusher and you know johnson ganard's health
- 57:46Speaker 3: is a little bit of an x factor here i
- 57:48Speaker 3: think the summers that joseph hunt and nolan smith have
- 57:50Speaker 3: had have made him a little bit less important in
- 57:53Speaker 3: terms of like Good point. They would be screwed without
- 57:56Speaker 3: him maybe otherwise before if those guys weren't looking as good.
- 58:00Speaker 3: But if you do get him back, that's a huge
- 58:02Speaker 3: boost in terms of him being fully healthy. He's obviously
- 58:05Speaker 3: going to play. He's not on the pup list at
- 58:06Speaker 3: some point. But we just don't know. Is he going
- 58:08Speaker 3: to be 100 percent? Is that injury– Is he going
- 58:11Speaker 3: to linger through the course of the season? Linebacker, you
- 58:14Speaker 3: have to feel great about Zach Vaughn. He still looks awesome.
- 58:16Speaker 3: Jihad Campbell, year two, he could make a leap. The
- 58:19Speaker 3: depth there is good. Jeremiah Trotter Jr., I feel good
- 58:21Speaker 3: about him. We just talked about cornerback. So I just–
- 58:24Speaker 3: and to make fans go. If all else fails, you
- 58:27Speaker 3: just have to give him the benefit of the doubt.
- 58:29Speaker 3: There were games last year that they weren't perfect. The
- 58:32Speaker 3: first Giants game, the Bears game, they got bullied. the
- 58:36Speaker 3: 49ers game in the playoffs, like that wasn't their A game.
- 58:37Speaker 3: So I'm not saying this defense, there's no world where
- 58:40Speaker 3: it's possible. They don't live up to expectation, but like
- 58:43Speaker 3: that just seems extremely unlikely to me.
- 58:45Speaker 1: Very true. Very true. Well, I'm going to let you
- 58:48Speaker 1: go in just a second here, but finally Eagles regular
- 58:52Speaker 1: season record prediction and will they get to the playoffs?
- 58:55Speaker 1: And if so, how far I have this team, as
- 58:58Speaker 1: I talked to Eric about it earlier at 11 and
- 59:01Speaker 1: six on the regular season, And I do believe that
- 59:04Speaker 1: this team could get to the NFC championship game. What
- 59:07Speaker 1: are your thoughts here, buddy?
- 59:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I see a lot of. 11-6 predictions out there,
- 59:11Speaker 3: including my own. I also have them slightly over the over-under,
- 59:15Speaker 3: I believe, set at 10.5. So, you know, that makes sense.
- 59:18Speaker 3: It's hard to say they're not going to make the playoffs.
- 59:21Speaker 3: That's all they do since... You know, Nick Sirianni and
- 59:25Speaker 3: Jalen Hurts have been here. I feel and that speaks
- 59:27Speaker 3: to I feel really good about the Eagles floor. I
- 59:29Speaker 3: really do. Like, I'm not like, oh, no. What if
- 59:31Speaker 3: they have a bad season? I just don't feel that way.
- 59:34Speaker 3: And if I regret that, then like I'll cross that
- 59:35Speaker 3: bridge when I get there. But right now, speaking to
- 59:38Speaker 3: my future self, like I feel good about the floor.
- 59:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 59:41Speaker 3: Ceiling like I'm less convinced on. I just I don't know.
- 59:44Speaker 3: I'm not saying they can't do it because we've seen
- 59:46Speaker 3: proof of concept. It's possible. I'm holding the door open
- 59:49Speaker 3: for that. But I can't– I'd be lying to you
- 59:52Speaker 3: if I'm sitting here and saying I feel like they're
- 59:54Speaker 3: going back to the Super Bowl. They're definitely going to win.
- 59:56Speaker 3: I don't feel like that. I feel like they're probably
- 59:59Speaker 3: going to be in the mix in terms of being
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: in postseason contention. I don't know if they win the division.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: I think divisions would be very close. I think that
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: comes down to like– a tiebreaker or something. I think
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: that's going to be a very close race between them
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: and the Cowboys. But ultimately I think they make the
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: playoffs and they probably win the playoff game. And then
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: I don't know about that, which will also be very
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: like different from what they've done. Cause usually it's either
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: make the playoffs get balanced or make the playoffs go
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: to Superbowl.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: But this year I'm just going to say they make it.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: And ultimately they just, they aren't quite on the level
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: of let's say the Seahawks or the Rams or whoever else,
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: the lions, I think are going to bounce back in
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: a big way.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: And ultimately, I think they just fall short.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: All right. He's B.L.G. Brandon Lee Gowton, Bleeding Green Nation
