- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: Hey everybody Brian Smith here with the IM team series and your daily influence.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: Today we are going to talk about embracing our self awareness specifically in the effort to build personal resilience and resilience is being able to persevere through issues either alone or with your team and even when we are doing this with our teams it requires
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: a strong sense of self-awareness.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's understanding our personal behaviors, how we're going to react to the different situations that we face.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: Having a mindset of individual influential team dynamic, and we emphasize that in our first book, individual influence, and that we must regularly assess
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: what our strengths are, what our weaknesses are, what our triggers are.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: And if we don't understand these things about ourselves, it's very hard to be resilient.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: we end up not being resumed and being very reactive and carrying with that reaction a lot of baggage that can negatively influence us individually and those around us in our areas of influence.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: So understanding those triggers and it helps us to navigate where our gaps are in dealing with adversity and
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: What we can do to lift ourselves up and our teams along with us and using self-reflection to identify what our stressors are, those things that trigger us develop coping mechanisms.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: for those situations is really important.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: You could do things like journal, journal, the challenge, journal, the solution, journal the emotion you felt.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, really dig deep into what that trigger was, how it made you feel, what you did, what you might have done differently.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: And when you do that and slow down and put it on paper,
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: or write it out or share it with somebody.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: You slow it down enough to analyze it and think about it more objectively and away from the actual trigger and the problem that likely made it happen.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: The proactive approach like this, it builds emotional endurance for us.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a practice.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: It also studies our leadership under the pressure that will come in the future.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: Every time that we do this, you'll get better.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then once that starts to happen, you can start to strategically adapt to what's going on.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: You can anticipate problems, even though you might not know what they are and anticipate how you're going to deal with them.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: You can create mental offerings, mental stops, mental slowdowns.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: We do this by building them in our smart management systems tactical planning method.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: We call it six to sixty.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: In our smart management tactical program provides us with the flexibility to deal with short-term disruptions without losing sight of our long-term goals.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: When we break adversity into manageable challenges, when we think about what those adversities are, what the challenges are individually, how they're influencing us,
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: the immediate influence and the ripple out the rollout effect of those things.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: When we break those down, we prioritize understanding them like a task if we're specific about them, measure them.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: understand if we can achieve resolution or not, or is it a pivot, a change in improvement?
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: Is it relevant to what we're doing?
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: Or is it just some emotional thing that has triggered us?
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: And is it timely for us to solve it now?
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: Or do we have to create a new tactic?
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: Or do strategy even?
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: Do we have to create a whole new project?
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: But aligning yourself and then your team with those and making them part of the priorities within your tactical planning and your tactical engagement will help keep everybody motivated on the task at hand, the opportunities and challenges you might face and also keep us focused.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: during uncertainties that faces.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then as we go through these issues, and we face problems within our areas of influence.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: One of the things that happens is we can be influenced by those around us about their emotion, their reactions, how they're handling their own emotional intelligence.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: In the way to start with that, we really hit heavy in our positive influence book.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: We talk about using empathy to create strong connections
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: within your team within yourself.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, you can have empathy for yourself.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: That you're the leader sometimes, or that you lean a team that's very challenging for you.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: But pass that empathy onto that team.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: Diversity becomes an opportunity to strengthen trust and collaboration, not just with yourself, but with your overall team.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, check in with your team members regularly, acknowledge that they have concerns, listen to learn about those concerns.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: Share any struggles you're having.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, being transparent about your own struggles is shared vulnerability.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: And when we share our vulnerability with our teams, it identifies a level of trust that's already been built and it creates even more opportunities to build deeper trust and wider trust.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: And these mutual understandings as they build on each other, they reinforce unity, they reinforce
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: force collective resilience.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: And what we get is a team that moves together.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, sufferers together, but works through the suffering of the small issues, the bigger issues as a team pointed in the right direction, solving the problem together.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: We come out at the other side.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: We are so much stronger.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: Our teams are so much tighter, there's so much more trust, there's so much more collaboration, there's so much more opportunity in everybody's involved.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: So embrace self-awareness about yourself, embrace awareness about your team, encourage them to be self-aware.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: Use it to build resilience within yourself and your teams.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: After the way that you want them to give them something to aspire to, show them the way.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: And when you do, your team will be stronger.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: You will see amazing results.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: And you will reach and exceed the goals you set for yourself and your teams.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: I hope you have an amazing day.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: I hope today's daily influence has given you something to think about for yourself and your teams.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I hope you go out there and be the most positive and responsible influence you can within your area of influence.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: I look forward to talking to you again soon.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: Have a great day.
