- 0:04Welcome to The Daily Quote, a podcast designed to kick start
- 0:08your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern
- 0:12for July 21st. Today is Global Hug Your
- 0:16Children Day, a holiday that encourages you to do something
- 0:20radical. Hug your kids.
- 0:23Yes, even the older kids that pretend they don't want hugs
- 0:27anymore. In honor of this tender and
- 0:30underrated holiday, today's quote comes from Carl Jung, who
- 0:34once said if there is anything that we wish to change in the
- 0:38child, we should first examine it and see whether it is not
- 0:42something that could better be changed in ourselves.
- 0:47Now that's a quote that hugs you right back.
- 0:50Gently but firmly. Jung reminds you that parenting
- 0:56isn't just about shaping your children.
- 0:58It's also about reshaping yourself.
- 1:01When your kid throws A tantrum, disrespects your sacred remote
- 1:05control, or forgets how to close a refrigerator door, it's easy
- 1:11to point fingers. But what if those little
- 1:14triggers are really holding up a mirror?
- 1:19Hugging your child? A literally and metaphorically,
- 1:22isn't just a gesture of love. It's a moment to connect, to
- 1:26reflect and maybe even grow together.
- 1:30You teach by who you are, not just by what you say.
- 1:35And sometimes a silent hug says more than a well rehearsed
- 1:39lecture ever could. So go ahead, wrap your arms
- 1:44around your child today. And if you don't have children,
- 1:47hug the inner child in you. That's going to do it.
- 1:50For today. I'm Anna McGivern, signing off
- 1:52for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 1:56Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
