Scammers are targeting Placer County families by posing as sheriff’s deputies, promising to get loved ones out of jail or into rehab—just ask for money via Zelle, Venmo, or gift cards. They’ll even call back after the first payment to demand more. This isn’t new—similar scams hit Sacramento before. The Sheriff’s Office warns: they’ll NEVER ask for money directly.
