- 0:02[music] >> Welcome. We've got lots of news this week.
- 0:09>> Yeah. Not all of all of it good, but >> No. >> it's been on the wall for a while now.
- 0:15And of course, I'm talking about BioWare. >> [laughter] >> Uh >> [sighs and gasps]
- 0:20>> yeah, I was like sad at first, and then, you know, we
- 0:24have a little little WhatsApp group >> Yeah. >> where basically everybody else was like,
- 0:28"Yeah, well, everything they touch [ __ ] now." And I was like, you know, that's >> Yeah.
- 0:33>> like >> inaccurate. >> You hear of like BioWare going, you
- 0:35think Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect trilogy, and all this great
- 0:40stuff. And then you realize what they've done for the like the last decade, and you go,
- 0:45"Oh yeah, we had Andromeda, which was sad. We had
- 0:51Anthem, which that game could have been great.
- 0:56>> Yeah. I mean, it was, in a way. I liked it. >> I enjoyed but
- 1:01>> I mean, not enough enough people did, I guess.
- 1:03>> Well, the thing is, I people enjoyed it. I think people enjoyed the game. People
- 1:08didn't like it as a live service. >> Yeah, fair. >> If you you had have made that like a
- 1:12single player like they're good at, >> Yeah. >> have been a great game. Like when you're
- 1:17flying around, everything's beautiful. You You your mech or I forget what it's
- 1:22what it's called gets hot, you fly into water and under waterfalls. Like it's
- 1:26beautiful and great, but then you had to play with people. >> Yeah, other people.
- 1:31>> And the problem was >> Destiny made it work. >> No, but when I played with people in
- 1:36this is I join a mission, and because this person's finished the game
- 1:41and knows where they're going, they're just flying through, and I'm getting
- 1:45just zapped everywhere instead of me being able to explore. >> Yeah.
- 1:50Yeah, it's not that kind of game, I guess. That's the problem. It's like it's Yeah,
- 1:56I I I assume people you that Let me try that again. >> [laughter]
- 2:00>> I assume you would have the same problem in Destiny. Because
- 2:04Uh if you can still play Destiny, I'm not sure. >> I think that's me, too.
- 2:08>> Yeah, but they're shutting They're just not making any more content for that.
- 2:11Anyway, not the point. Um cuz I assume you'd have the same problem
- 2:16mhm if you were playing with random people. >> Well, problem with those games, you need
- 2:20to commit to them. Like that needs to >> Oh, no, no. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:23>> your game. That's it. Like you >> Cuz I like Destiny, actually, as a
- 2:27Destiny 2. I played quite a lot Um >> I played up to the exact point where it
- 2:31got to and now we're going play with other people and this stuff.
- 2:37>> I mean, you don't have to. I don't know, maybe you used to have to more back
- 2:42You definitely don't now. >> There was a point in the story where it
- 2:45was basically Yep, you've done all the story missions that you can by yourself.
- 2:49Now go out and play with people and do your light score and
- 2:55>> Yeah, also, I suppose I played it later. Like it's pretty different now, I think,
- 2:59to whatever >> Yeah, I played it day one when we still had D H.
- 3:03>> I Yeah, I know I bought it. I have the the like the collector's edition of it.
- 3:07>> Yeah, cuz that was the big game from Bungie after Halo and then it
- 3:11>> But I never I didn't play it, obviously, as much as you. Mhm, back then.
- 3:15>> But yeah, anyway back to EA cuz we're going to stay on topic.
- 3:22We're going to. I'm going to force myself. So, a little while ago, EA was purchased
- 3:29by, I think, Saudi Arabia. >> Right. Okay. >> And
- 3:36the first thing >> like space. >> Well, no, the first thing that any sort
- 3:39of When anything's anyone purchase or anyone new takes over, the first thing they do
- 3:45is fire people. >> Yeah. >> That's tends to be the trend is to >> Sure. >> And
- 3:52BioWare was I think the big one to go and but
- 3:58Yeah, that's as we're saying, like hasn't done anything in a while. I think
- 4:00the last they released was Dragon Age, which was >> Oh, yeah. I forgot about that one.
- 4:07>> That was a weird the purple one. >> Whatever the the one that was all purple. >> Yeah.
- 4:14Yeah, it's a real shame cuz the Dragon Ball the >> Dragon Ball? >> Dragon Ball.
- 4:21The >> Dragon Age? >> They were they were great games when
- 4:24they first came out and the story >> Well, the first one was great. The
- 4:28second one was notoriously not good. >> I still liked it anyway. I enjoyed it
- 4:33and I also liked the fact that it kept your decisions from the first game as well and
- 4:39traveled over and then and then that just stopped and then they gave us
- 4:44Dawn Guard I think was the last one. >> Oh, yeah. And Inquisition was in there, too.
- 4:48>> Yes. >> The third one which I thought was pretty good. But
- 4:52again, I think people didn't like that either. People are never happy. I guess
- 4:55that's the less that's the lesson here. >> They're going to be Actually, I think there's
- 5:00As a uh after I said I'm going to stay on topic, I think there's going to be a
- 5:02job for people coming up soon. >> What? So, oh, for like actual humans?
- 5:07>> Actual humans. I think I have So, Steam Fest is on at the moment. >> Yes.
- 5:14>> What they're finding is it's just a ton of AI slop. >> Yep. I saw that.
- 5:19>> Last week we were talking about how sort of people are going out and vibe cobing like
- 5:25Photoshop and all these stuff and it's sort of like a middle finger to the
- 5:27companies, but now we're also same thing happening to indie developers. >> Yeah.
- 5:32>> Hey, here's my game I want to show you and people are just go, "That's great.
- 5:35I'm going to make a copy of that." >> Yeah, that's a good idea. I've stolen it now.
- 5:39>> But I think the only way you're going to be able to really compete with that with
- 5:44betting what's on a store is by real people. >> Right.
- 5:49>> Cuz you can train AI to go and detect if this is AI in everything, but then
- 5:54people will just make get make their game to get past the AI. >> Uh-huh.
- 6:00>> So, then we're just having people using AI to make things for AI and then we get
- 6:05left in dust. So, there's going to have to be a job for people to actually vet
- 6:08games again. >> Oh, I see what you're saying. To determine if they are AI. But how would
- 6:13we But we can't do that. >> it's not the fact if they're AI or not.
- 6:15It's the fact if they're any good. >> Oh, I see. Right, right.
- 6:21>> Like, is this a game that's going to be worth playing? And I think we're going
- 6:24to get a lot more shadow drops coming up soon. >> You think like review sites will be like
- 6:30>> a thing again. >> Like back again, yeah, instead of everybody just playing everything.
- 6:34>> Cuz you're not going to be able to keep up with everything. >> Mhm.
- 6:37>> So, you're actually going to need sort of new sites to go, "Hey, this is
- 6:42not AI slop. It's actually a game worth playing." >> Yeah.
- 6:46Yeah, cuz I saw a video where they scrolled through and they were trying to
- 6:48figure out which were and were not AI and then I found out you don't have to You only
- 6:54have to disclose AI usage on Steam if it's for like art assets or music kind
- 7:00of thing. You don't have to disclose that you coded using AI, which makes sense because uh
- 7:06apparently everybody's just co- coding with AI now anyway.
- 7:10>> And it's actually quite scary. >> that they did use it for that.
- 7:14>> I think we're going to see a lack of innovation, especially in the indie
- 7:17space, for a while. >> Maybe, yeah. >> Because >> know. I'm still like
- 7:22I saw Mick Gordon did this interview recently where he talked about AI and how
- 7:28I think he was particularly music-focused, obviously. Um
- 7:32but he was talking about, you know, AI can't do what humans do because it's just got
- 7:37this database of all this music that there is and it kind of just iterates on
- 7:41it. And then And I'm like I don't know. That's kind of what people
- 7:45do as well. It's just not as like >> Not >> I I'm What I'm All I'm I'm going to say is
- 7:51I'm not convinced it won't be able to do that. >> Oh, yeah. That's what I'm saying.
- 7:54>> No, what I'm sort of more concerned about is indie developers sort of coming up with
- 7:59a new idea, showing their game, >> having >> 10 people then >> Oh.
- 8:04>> make a copy of it and then that actual game getting lost in the which one
- 8:09should play. we That's already happening, but I think we're going to see a lot less.
- 8:13>> before the AI, it already happened. There was like the mobile games that
- 8:17used to happen all the time. And then like some game would get huge and then
- 8:20the some little indie developer who came actually came up with it was like [ __ ]
- 8:24>> Yeah, and it's just going to get worse. >> Yeah. >> Cuz it's so easy now.
- 8:29But I heard a story about there was even one person that used AI to copy a game
- 8:34and they thanked the original developer for their inspiration.
- 8:38God. And it's just a copy of it. >> We've got an AI game I want to talk
- 8:42about in the afterparty. >> Ooh. >> It's a vibe coded game that's been in
- 8:46the news. But um on the topic of BioWare still. >> Sorry.
- 8:52>> Um no, that's all right. Mass Effect 5 canceled. They were working on Mass Effect 5.
- 8:58>> And then someone leaked >> Mass Effect universe. Yeah, they leaked a trailer for it.
- 9:02Yeah, and uh I got to say it looks pretty [ __ ] good. It's just a trailer.
- 9:09>> It's just a trailer though and it did look good, but >> It's no gameplay. >> Yeah.
- 9:15>> It's just like uh you know. >> I think this was
- 9:19>> a vibe trailer, but the vibe was good. >> Yeah, I think this sort of probably was
- 9:23internal marketing to go look, this is what >> Mhm. >> we're doing working on and
- 9:29>> No. But yeah, while I while I was watching it I go oh, this does look good. And
- 9:33then I thought about it more and I went this is not gameplay. This is not story.
- 9:37This is just showing how cool it might look, but not >> Yeah. >> the substance behind it.
- 9:43>> It is story, but I mean were we to believe the the the person speaking? I
- 9:49guess he's a he's a What are they called? >> [sighs and gasps] >> Oh, Spectre. >> Yeah.
- 9:55Uh but he's also wearing the N7 armor.
- 10:01>> Yes, and the ship looked a little bit like the Normandy.
- 10:05>> So it was like Oh, hang on. Is this just the the as Shepard? Like >> Mhm.
- 10:10>> They're all I don't know. I was confused about that. I mean that not that it
- 10:13matters because it's whatever getting this. >> But it's just like, oh, it's just
- 10:16coincidentally another person who's exactly the same as Shepard became a Spectre?
- 10:21>> I really wish they had of done something better with Andromeda instead of just
- 10:25crapping that out. >> Yeah. I I mean, I didn't hate it as much as
- 10:32everyone else. >> I The thing that I didn't like about it
- 10:36was they kept talking about how like it's going to you're going to be world
- 10:39building and things are going to change, but then you'd land on a planet, do a
- 10:43couple of missions, and then the settlement would sort of be
- 10:47built, and then that was it. That was the only real substantial change to that world.
- 10:53>> you would come back later and there'd be more stuff was my is my
- 10:56memory of it, but maybe I'm misremembering. >> You I think you're misremembering. It
- 10:59wasn't It wasn't as big a change as you'd I was expecting. >> All right.
- 11:06>> Like I was look looking at the ideas like maybe even doing things to help
- 11:09like build bases, like do things see the settlement actually expand more than just
- 11:15yeah, we're finished the island people going to walk on their generated routes
- 11:18over and over. >> Mhm. >> And then we didn't even get the final DLC for it.
- 11:24>> Oh, cuz everybody hated it, so they just like, ah, [ __ ] it. >> Yeah.
- 11:28Cuz I think what was meant to be one of the galaxy ships didn't make it and you
- 11:31were going to go search for it or something. >> Oh, I remember that. The
- 11:36>> I forget which race it was. >> Quarians people Quarians. Quarians?
- 11:40Quarians? Did I make that up? >> Or Quarians from Star Wars? >> Are they?
- 11:46Quarians. [snorts] Not as Quarians. >> Okay. >> Well, either it's the Quarians or
- 11:52it's a Okay. Let me The [laughter] Quarians are what Tali's race is. >> Yep.
- 11:57>> So, if I think it was them. >> Could have been them. Could have been
- 12:01anything. It was a long time ago. >> And now I'm like, was Tali her name?
- 12:05Tali Mass Effect. >> Tali, yes. >> Yeah, okay. >> You killed her.
- 12:11>> I did not kill her. She killed herself. Because of what I did. >> [laughter]
- 12:17>> Failed to do. I failed I can't remember. Everybody died in my first [ __ ] Mass
- 12:22Effect 3 play-through. >> Yeah, no. Cuz you need to go and do
- 12:26every single side mission. You can't skip stuff.
- 12:28>> need to import the previous game, which I didn't do cuz I played Mass Effect 2 on PC.
- 12:34And then I played Mass Effect 3 on the Xbox 360. >> Yep. >> And um
- 12:41So, it didn't import my game. So, I didn't see Jack. Cuz you have to have
- 12:44done an import to see Jack. >> Mass Effect 3 was a 360 game, wasn't it? >> Yeah. >> Yeah.
- 12:51I still remember it being good back in the day. >> Got my copy signed by Jennifer Hale.
- 12:55>> Yep. We love Jennifer Hale. >> Yeah, she's great. Um
- 13:01Yeah, so I don't know. The trailer looked good. I was like made me go
- 13:04[clears throat] and go ah, bummer. I would It seemed like maybe that could have
- 13:06been good, but I don't know. Maybe you're but then I was also looking
- 13:10>> at their track record for cuz they've still been making
- 13:15story uh games with big stories in them, but yeah, stories haven't been that good.
- 13:22>> Yeah. >> Like Dragon Age Inquisition really felt
- 13:25like a It felt like a game. It felt very do this, do that. It didn't
- 13:30didn't feel immersive like Mass Effect. >> The fact that game existed Yeah, it
- 13:34can't be good. The fact that I didn't even remember that existed. Uh well, there's a
- 13:41People are now because of the trailer >> Mhm. >> gamers are now calling for a boycott of
- 13:46EA. And there's a uh uh a petition
- 13:52which at first I was like a petition like what? To just not shut down the studio?
- 13:58>> Mhm. It's done. >> No, the petition is to have them sell
- 14:02the game rights to somebody else who will actually do something with them, which >> Okay.
- 14:09>> I mean, yeah. All right, they might They might do that.
- 14:11>> Like don't sit on Well, who knows? EA might be planning to do something with it soon.
- 14:17>> Oh, that's a good point. Yeah, actually yeah, you're right. You're right. They
- 14:20own They still own it. It's just BioWare's gone and they're not working on anything.
- 14:24>> Yeah, that's a good point. >> And it wasn't like this game was coming
- 14:27out next year or anything. It was still years away. >> Yeah. >> So
- 14:31>> There's not even any gameplay to show us. >> Yeah, maybe we're jumping the gun going,
- 14:35"Sell it to someone to do something." When they're going, "Hold on, we might
- 14:38do something with it." >> Yeah, we've got plans for that IP. >> Yeah.
- 14:41>> And you're not going to You're not going to like them, but we will. >> [laughter]
- 14:45>> There's going to be lots of microtransactions. >> Love those microtransactions.
- 14:52>> I think they are working on another Battlefield at the moment, which
- 14:57I'm all in for. I like them Star Wars Battlefield games. >> No, I knew you
- 15:00>> Star Wars Battlefront Battlefront. >> Oh. I'm just thinking of
- 15:06What just came out? Call of Duty? Was it >> Yeah, Battlefield 6 or 5 or something.
- 15:10I'm playing it at the moment. >> Wait, is it Battlefield or is it a Call
- 15:13of Duty? I'm getting confused now. >> Battlefield Oh, no.
- 15:17Call of Duty just came out, sorry. I am playing Battlefield at the moment. They
- 15:21all just They're the same game in my head. >> Yeah, no, that's why I got confused, too.
- 15:25>> Yeah. >> And Battlefront is Star Wars. >> Yes. That I'd like I'd like it It's been a
- 15:30while since we had a Battlefront game. I'd like them to do a bit of justice to
- 15:34the single-player story this time. >> Yeah.
- 15:39Yeah. What about that? Are we still getting that
- 15:45uh Knights of the Old Republic remake? Is that still happening? What did that
- 15:49>> Comes and goes. It's >> I feel like I can't remember whether it
- 15:53last got canceled or is happening. But anyway, BioWare wasn't doing that, right?
- 15:57>> No. No. Um former KotOR remake Julius they're
- 16:01remastering. Okay, evidently it's still still
- 16:08happening. >> All right, good. >> Oh, no, that's an article about Shrek 2
- 16:12remaster, which I don't know why we need a remaster of that.
- 16:16>> The The movie or the or a game? The game. Shrek 2 the game. >> the game remastered.
- 16:23>> Have you played that? >> No, I have. I have not.
- 16:26>> Really? You're leaving achievements on the table.
- 16:29>> I've I'm actually trying to catch up and I'm trying to be good and actually just
- 16:32go back and play games that I have in my library. >> I'm coming for you. I got some
- 16:37achievements this week. >> Did you get some achievements or did
- 16:40someone else in your family get some achievements?
- 16:41>> I got the achievements. I was just It's just a game I was forced to play by
- 16:45somebody else in my family. >> Were you playing Bluey by any chance? >> Nope. >> No.
- 16:51>> No, I got some rare achievements. I got like a bunch of rare achievements in
- 16:57Little Kitty, Big City. >> Ah. >> I guess probably because nobody playing that game.
- 17:04>> [laughter] >> But like I got a bunch of them that were rare because
- 17:09Yeah, well We talked about this last week. Little Kitty, Big City, you're a little black
- 17:13cat. The cat looks exactly like Binky. >> Mhm. >> And my daughter's obsessed with our cat
- 17:19Binky. Her cat Binky. >> Her cat. >> Um and so she just loves this game and
- 17:26is making me play it every night before she goes to bed. >> Okay. >> And since
- 17:32I'm trying to squeeze as much content out of this game as I can, I'm getting a lot of
- 17:36achievements because you know, it's not a huge game.
- 17:40>> Oh, you've actually completed the game. >> Yeah. >> Wow.
- 17:46>> Yeah, you just have to get all >> button this game. >> [sighs and gasps]
- 17:51>> Yeah, some of us are just better at games, Luke. >> Yeah, yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah.
- 17:56Well, well, I will attempt to catch up maybe one day. >> of those achievements I got are
- 18:01are rare? You can probably see that on True Achievements, right?
- 18:03>> Yes, it should be. Like completed all the quests. >> [snorts]
- 18:07>> It's like the most rare achievements I've ever gotten. >> Yep. >> For sure.
- 18:12Because normally [snorts] I only get the achievements that are super easy cuz I don't
- 18:17>> So you need to enjoy some more cardboard boxes?
- 18:21>> Oh, that's true. Yeah, I know that. I know that. Yeah. Actually, no, that's
- 18:24Yeah. Blue boxes, get some hats. Yeah, there's more hats. We've got all the hats.
- 18:30>> but there's more hats. Recycling? So, you get cans that you put into recycling.
- 18:36>> Oh, I didn't know that. All right. I have to do that. >> Mhm.
- 18:39You got to break some stuff. You got to bust some old birds' nests. Yeah, so
- 18:43it's all just the collectible stuff you got to do now.
- 18:45>> Yeah. This year I want to No, there's one more I've got to find the the
- 18:49chameleon again. The chameleon who tries to hide and you
- 18:53can always find him really easily cuz he's the wrong color.
- 18:56I just don't know where he is at the moment. >> got to track him down.
- 18:59>> Once I get Once I find the location, I'll find him. >> Yeah.
- 19:03>> Because he's a child king. >> I think I might have an easy one for you.
- 19:08>> I don't need him, mate. I'm going to get all of them, but go on.
- 19:10>> Uh just take 20 photos. >> Oh, okay. Yeah, fair enough.
- 19:15>> Doesn't need to be of anything, just Just take 20 photos.
- 19:19>> Yeah. No, I'm going to take the photos of things because again, Lyra will like
- 19:22that, so. >> Well, there is another one where you need to get photographed 20 times. I
- 19:28don't know how to do that. >> Get photographed. >> I'd like to go back and play this game.
- 19:32I've got three achievements here so that I got distracted. >> to say it's it's
- 19:37I mean, it's fun. >> Yeah. >> It's a really simple, kind of clunky
- 19:42game, but you know, it's fun. >> It's fun. >> Yeah. Go around, unlock stuff, and
- 19:48trip people over so you can steal their food. >> You ate all the yummy fish.
- 19:53>> I did. It was yummy. The cat said so.
- 20:00Uh I also got some achievements in Resident Evil 4, which I'm still playing.
- 20:07>> And are you still enjoying it? >> I am. It's with like with all the
- 20:12Resident Evil games and games like that, it's like I am enjoying it.
- 20:18I do They stress me out. >> Mhm. [clears throat] >> Uh which is intentional. >> Yes.
- 20:24>> Um, and so it's always like I get to unlike a normal game where I
- 20:29just keep playing and playing and I'm like you know, like ah, might maybe should I
- 20:33go to bed? No, I'll just keep playing for a bit. Resident Evil's kind of like
- 20:37I get to a bit and I see the little save thing going in the corner and I go
- 20:40do I want to deal with this right now? >> [laughter]
- 20:44>> Cuz the problem is it's cuz it's you that it stress you cuz it's the hard
- 20:48makes it harder to go to sleep as well. So you've got to try and yeah.
- 20:52>> So like literally last night I was like uh, I got to
- 20:56uh, I'm assuming a lot of people have played this game before. The bit where
- 20:59there's the two chainsaw ladies come through the wall and then
- 21:05you have like it's like another scene where there's like a whole mob of of
- 21:09people coming at you. And it's like uh, I was like, you know what? Not right now.
- 21:15>> Not tonight. >> Not right now. >> See, I I I do like this game. I I think
- 21:19the good thing about this one is it's not as stressful as the like Resident
- 21:22Evil 1 and 2 were because I don't think ammo's quite as difficult. You don't have to
- 21:28be as sparing. >> They Resident Evil 4 I mean I have the
- 21:32original probably wasn't like I think the original was more like set in where
- 21:36everything was. Resident Evil 4 the game is programmed to give you
- 21:42ammo. >> Yeah. >> And it's kind of like clever in a way because
- 21:48you always feel like you're low on ammo. >> Yes, but there's always >> I haven't run out.
- 21:52>> Yeah, it's always there when you about to do something
- 21:55>> Yeah, and I know it's a it's a balancing act cuz if you go go too nuts so
- 22:00shooting the handgun or whatever, yes, you're going to run out of bullets, but
- 22:03>> yeah, the game does a pretty good job of however they're doing it there's some
- 22:07algorithm I guess in the game that's like okay, he's using the handgun a lot, give
- 22:12him more handgun bullets, but not too many handgun bullets. >> Yeah.
- 22:16>> Like you always feel like >> just want to be on edge a little bit and
- 22:19just you got to play your shot a little bit better.
- 22:22>> No, it's good it's really good. And and we talked last week that some of the
- 22:26stuff in the remakes nice. Yeah. Like you know, you can store the guns in the
- 22:32typewriter, which doesn't make any sense, but you can. >> Special.
- 22:37>> 4? Yeah, Requiem is too I almost I was like, should I buy Requiem? I really
- 22:41want to play it. Maybe I should just do it. >> It's like 15 bucks. >> For the four remake?
- 22:47>> Four remake. >> I'd say it's worth it. It's good. >> I will do it. That's a good price.
- 22:52>> Yeah, it's a good game. >> Yeah. I know I tried to There was another
- 22:56remake of it years ago that I tried and it was >> Oh, yeah, sure.
- 23:00>> atrocious. Like I could not >> I think it's just like just a graphical
- 23:03update, right? The other one. This one's like full on remake like Yeah. And it's
- 23:08funny because I'm playing it and I'm like, yes, this is how I remember it. >> Mhm.
- 23:14>> [clears throat] >> I watched the video of what >> [laughter]
- 23:16>> I watched the video of what it looked like on the GameCube. >> [snorts]
- 23:19>> Far out, man. You My memory is kind to these games. >> Yes.
- 23:24>> Like it's not not It was amazing, but I look at the video of it and I'm like,
- 23:28[ __ ] that's what it looked like? >> Well, see like like
- 23:31if I go back and I think of Halo and that first time you walk out of the ship
- 23:35and you see everything and it's And then you go back and you watch that
- 23:40now, you go it's just brown blobs. >> Even back further, Unreal.
- 23:45Unreal when you walk out of the spaceship at the start with the
- 23:48waterfall and everything, blew people's [ __ ] mind. >> Well, even shooting the gun looked
- 23:52amazing. >> Yeah, cuz the lights were colorful. Yeah. Cuz there was a bit at the start
- 23:57where you would go backtrack out of the spaceship and the colored lights would
- 24:00start flashing and it was like like, oh my god. >> I don't probably don't want to go look
- 24:06at that now, do I? >> I mean, I haven't in a while. I'm just
- 24:09thinking That's an example that came to mind of something that we all used to
- 24:12talk We talked about it. >> Yes. >> We were like, have you seen this [ __ ] game?
- 24:16>> We talked about it when anyone came to land, you go, hey, you got to see how >> Yeah.
- 24:20>> Well, this looks and >> This is like games aren't going to get any better than this.
- 24:25>> [laughter] >> We have reached peak game. >> I actually kind of think we have kind of
- 24:30reached peak game these days. >> Like visually, you mean? >> Yeah. >> I don't know.
- 24:37Big leaps anymore. >> No. Not like we used to. >> Yeah, I wonder if there'll be a Resident
- 24:44Evil 4 remake remake one day that'll be just like photo realistic. But
- 24:49>> Well, that's that's really that's the next big thing is having it
- 24:53that until then I don't think I'm not seeing >> You know what?
- 24:56Hang on, I'm just going to ask Claude to make that. Resident Evil 4, but make it photo
- 25:03realistic, make no mistakes. Okay. >> Ah, you can put that last line in, so
- 25:07it's going to be perfect. >> Yeah. Ah, I shouldn't have revealed my secret. >> [laughter]
- 25:12>> Yeah. Okay, so it's going to work on that in the background. >> Yep.
- 25:15>> What? What's that? Oh, I've run out of tokens. >> Yep. >> Um never mind. >> [laughter]
- 25:20>> Oh, did you see this on the topic of AI just quickly? And we've got another AI
- 25:24article for after this, too. Did you see the Anthropic uh
- 25:29Ah, it's like a I don't understand this [ __ ] It's like an IPO
- 25:33related thing. Basically, this released financial information. >> Okay. >> Is the way to
- 25:38>> [laughter] >> how I understand it. And anyway, last year, 2025, >> Mhm.
- 25:43>> the whole year, they reported uh $8 billion loss. >> Is that all?
- 25:50>> This year, the first half of the year, >> Mhm.
- 25:54>> $80.7 billion dollar loss. >> [laughter] >> [ __ ] hell. Like
- 26:01>> That's so much money lost. >> Cuz that's just one of them. There's multiple out there.
- 26:07>> Mhm. >> Who's going to be holding the bag that when >> I think >> they all go bankrupt?
- 26:14>> Well, this there's a couple things like that. Yeah, okay, that that could happen. They
- 26:18could go bankrupt. Uh >> They're all not going to survive.
- 26:21>> At some point, they're going to have to either uh there was a conversation about this
- 26:26Ah, I read it on I can't remember where I read it on Hacker News. It's two thing
- 26:30one of two things has to happen. One, they have to jack the prices up. Because
- 26:35it's not sustainable. So, at some point people and now everybody's already using
- 26:41this stuff. And so, it's going to be a it's going to be a nightmare. Cuz
- 26:45there's literally now businesses built on top of this stuff that are just going
- 26:49to get [ __ ] >> And if they jack it up to that they're
- 26:51making enough dough they're not losing money not not even that they're making
- 26:53profit just so they're not losing money. >> Yeah, this is going to go bankrupt
- 26:57instantly out of business. Right? If they have to do that. Cuz again, the
- 27:01$20 that I pay right now for Claude every month, I pay $20, right? I am
- 27:08being subsidized by somebody out there who's investing money. Like, it costs
- 27:13way more than 20 bucks to do all the [ __ ] that I do with that. Um so, there's that or
- 27:18it's possible that over the next couple of years there's enough progress on
- 27:24making it um you know, more uh optimized getting the models better that the costs
- 27:31come way way way down. That's possible. >> I heard something today which if it's
- 27:35true, I don't think Nvidia's helping with that. >> Mhm.
- 27:41>> So, I've heard that Nvidia cuz you know how they're they're selling the memory and
- 27:47like they're selling [clears throat] all this stuff. And
- 27:51so, but they're making companies like buy it basically essentially before
- 27:55they're even ready for it. So, they know that they'll be they'll have it before
- 27:58they're ready. So, they >> Like pre-sale kind of thing.
- 28:01>> Yeah, they're poking out a ton of stuff that they're just putting in the storage
- 28:04for when they're ready instead of buying it cuz they don't know when they need it
- 28:08if Nvidia will have it. So, Nvidia's stock price is going up. They're selling
- 28:12all this stuff that people are rushing to buy so that when they do need it it's
- 28:16going to be there. So, it's going to slow down that sort of
- 28:19optimization I think because it's well, we've got this sitting in storage we
- 28:23might as just throw that at it while we've already paid for it. And but yeah,
- 28:28they it sounds like they're paying for it before they actually even need it.
- 28:32>> Is this going to be like uh this has happened throughout history,
- 28:35but like examples of this where I think back in the I'm I'm not a I'm not a historian, but
- 28:41back in the early days of America when they, you know, invented banks and money >> Mhm.
- 28:47>> and everybody was dropping off their gold at the bank and being given paper
- 28:51money and then uh something happened. I don't know. Maybe the Civil War, I don't know.
- 28:57>> Yeah. [laughter] >> It might have been a different day to
- 28:58that. Someone's going to write in and correct me, but at some point this
- 29:01happened in American history where everybody went to the bank cuz they got
- 29:04the shits with the bank for whatever reason and said, all right, I want my
- 29:06gold back and the bank was like >> We don't have
- 29:09>> We don't have We haven't got enough gold for all the money we gave out and then
- 29:12it was like, well, that's illegal now, but like but is it
- 29:17going to be like that where Nvidia's like, yeah, we sold pre-sold all this
- 29:20RAM and then everyone's like, okay, we'll have the RAM now and then Nvidia's like,
- 29:24>> Oh, all of you? >> [ __ ] >> Well, yeah, yeah, yeah, you've you're on
- 29:27the list of when our next shipment's coming through, but but even when
- 29:31they're getting the shipments now, they're not using it yet. They're just
- 29:34shunting it in a warehouse until they're ready. >> Yeah.
- 29:37>> But they're still going to be buying more because and then they need to be there.
- 29:41>> All the AI companies going to go bankrupt and it's going to be like that
- 29:44um COVID thing where the guy bought all the toilet paper.
- 29:46>> Yes. Can we [laughter] go Can we return this? Middle finger. >> That's your RAM.
- 29:52Uh someone else did say too though, if um uh you know, all the coders now are
- 29:58using AI uh and someone said, well, what happens if it goes away? Everyone's
- 30:02going to have forgotten how to code, but and and I think this is true. Um
- 30:06the open source models uh not as good, >> Mhm.
- 30:11>> but I think that would be the path forward if something like that happened. Like
- 30:16>> I call developers out anyway. None of these know how to code anyway. Before AI
- 30:20came, you just used Google. >> Stack Overflow. >> [laughter]
- 30:24>> Yeah. You type it in Google, you find someone that did something like you
- 30:27want, you copy it in and you make it work for what you wanted it to. That's
- 30:31how it all worked anyway. >> Nothing's changed. >> There are people who do that. There are
- 30:34of do that. I always try. If I look up something, I always try and make sure I
- 30:40understand it, right? Because I don't like the idea that I'm putting this thing out
- 30:46there and I don't know what it does, right? And then, I mean, obviously you
- 30:49have time constraints sometimes, but but yeah, you're right. People did do that a lot. Um
- 30:53And the thing that worries me about the AI stuff is that that like
- 30:59it is really easy to not do that. Yes. Just go like do this thing, refresh the page, it
- 31:04works. Okay, good. [ __ ] commit that. Like I [snorts] would people
- 31:09try not to do that, okay? Cuz the I mean, I've seen the code that that it
- 31:13writes and it's not always great. Like, you do have to check. >> It's kind of
- 31:18from what I've seen with some people doing it, it's adding lots of useless
- 31:21stuff that doesn't need to be there. Yeah. >> Yeah. They call them the the god
- 31:27controller in in some of the React stuff it makes where it just shoves everything
- 31:31into one file and it's like There you go. >> I mean I mean, it works. >> Yeah.
- 31:36>> And if you tell it not to do that, it won't do it. It's just that it's just I
- 31:41don't know. It just does it. I don't know. I mean, and also maybe it doesn't
- 31:44do it anymore. They might have fixed that, but like they I don't know. Just
- 31:47just check the [ __ ] code is the point. >> It's there to help you, not replace you. Yes.
- 31:53>> That's what it That's how it should be. Yeah. I think junior developers probably
- 31:57have to worry a bit. Like, >> It's going to be harder for them to learn, I think.
- 32:02>> I wonder about the future of people getting into into Well, how how do you
- 32:06become Like, I'm a senior developer, right? How do you become a senior
- 32:08developer if you can't be a junior developer because the AI does all that
- 32:11stuff? Like, that's a bit of a question. >> you, like, a junior developer learning
- 32:17from their mistakes now, they're just going to ask AI what what was wrong and
- 32:22then AI will go this and they'll go, "Okay." And they'll do that. But they've
- 32:25learned nothing from that experience. >> Yeah, and you don't get
- 32:28Exactly. And cuz the experience is the bit where I think, you know, like, you
- 32:32can look at something some code that the AI wrote and go, "No, that's not a good
- 32:37way to do it." Whereas a junior would be like, "Oh, is that how you do that?" >> Mhm.
- 32:42>> And yes, it's No, maybe it's not. >> With a lot of IT stuff, I find the best
- 32:47way to learn things is from things going wrong. >> Yeah, totally. Yeah.
- 32:52>> Yeah, and then you learn by failing and >> you do something and then you go, "Oh,
- 32:55that's like why is that so [ __ ] slow?" And it's like, you know, you
- 32:59learn you know, more efficient ways of doing things and then by default you
- 33:03just do things that way and then when you see the AI do it something you go,
- 33:06"No, don't do it that way." You know, it's Yeah, it's experience. >> Yeah. >> But yeah.
- 33:12So anyway, the world is coming to an end is the point. >> Yes. >> Yep. Yep.
- 33:16>> Um happy we're old. >> Yes. Um but on on the topic of AI >> Yes. What's the news?
- 33:23>> Well, Epic Games broadly has gone all in on AI, it seems. And
- 33:30they've been getting a lot of [ __ ] There's been a lot of news about Well,
- 33:32they're getting a lot of [ __ ] and they're getting
- 33:34I feel like there's two camps. There's a cool anti-AI camp and there's a very
- 33:38vocal pro-AI camp. So it's hard to know how much [ __ ] they're actually getting. But
- 33:44Epic Games is shifting to an AI-first development strategy for its
- 33:50collaboration with Disney. Letting AI models write all the code and guide all
- 33:55the artwork for the upcoming shooter. >> So I think the problem that I think a
- 34:01lot of people who are against it is the fact that they're seeing all these
- 34:04companies leaning into it and then they're saying about the people that
- 34:07these companies are also laying off. Like it's >> Yeah. And then, you know,
- 34:14it's like, you know, it's the industrial revolution, this happened as well. But
- 34:18>> Yeah, and people are saying that people will find their spot in the new world, but
- 34:22>> Yeah. >> But >> But that's the thing I keep going back to.
- 34:25>> I still don't know Well, I came up with one job earlier.
- 34:29People actually have to start looking at games again. >> Playing games. >> Yes.
- 34:33>> [laughter] >> Um It's like that whole thing with the
- 34:37truck drivers where they you know, when the when all the cars are autonomous.
- 34:40Yeah, exactly. We They said, "I'll go learn how to code." Well, don't do that now.
- 34:44>> No, no, no. That's That's not safe anymore. So >> We also [ __ ] everybody out of that
- 34:48job. So >> I think what um I heard of someone saying um you're going to need
- 34:53someone with fine motor skills to screwing the little screws for things soon.
- 34:57>> Oh, yeah. That was The children will do that. >> Yeah.
- 35:01>> Like, what are the adults going to do? Just manage the children. >> Yes. >> Mhm.
- 35:06>> They'll run the daycare that's doing all the labor.
- 35:09>> But then that'll just be go out to the robot army to do.
- 35:14>> Yeah. Yeah, well, the robots are only going to get better, too. Yeah, we're
- 35:17[ __ ] Again, the theme of this whole conversation is the world is doomed. >> Yeah.
- 35:21>> Uh but yeah, Epic's gone all in on it, apparently, and I don't know.
- 35:27People are annoyed about it. I don't know. I think it's probably is
- 35:34I mean, this is the reality of it is that it's all going to go this way. I know
- 35:37the art in particular, I know it bothers people >> Mhm. >> because
- 35:42I There is something that feels different about art versus code. Like
- 35:48>> Well, even with the art, like I'm seeing some stuff and
- 35:52a lot of the time the art that AI does is all just the the same. Like, you can
- 35:58a lot of times >> everywhere. >> You just look at it and go, "Well,
- 36:01that's just AI." Like, it's just >> Yeah. I I'm particularly as a as a parent, now
- 36:06I get The school has like I'm I'm a PTO member of the school, so I get a lot of
- 36:11newsletters and I get and then all the like [ __ ] related to
- 36:15soccer and then like everything. It all looks like It's got that look where it's like the
- 36:22AI generated >> And the problem is this, we're probably
- 36:25not giving That's probably because I put something in and it's the first prompt
- 36:28that came out and went, "Yeah, prompt done." >> And and and then it's like So, I know
- 36:33some people say, "Oh, yeah, you know, an artist could have done that." Like, I
- 36:35don't know if you remember what stuff looked like when we were in school. They
- 36:37weren't going to pay an artist to do that. It was just going to look like crap.
- 36:41>> It was just going to look like uh clip art. >> Yeah, exactly.
- 36:44>> Pasted in and some pics. >> So, so nobody's lost a job over that stuff, but
- 36:50>> But, with Epic we can actually see they've laid off a thousand people.
- 36:56>> Yes. In March, citing a downturn in Fortnite engagement as the main reason for the
- 37:03move. >> I did not take that job being a tester for 2K. >> Yeah? In Australia?
- 37:09>> Yeah. >> I mean, are they even there now? >> No, no, they shut down years ago. Like
- 37:15and that's what I was lucky at the time that that happened, but I would that
- 37:18would have had me foot in the door for that and I would have had experience and
- 37:22been able to get a job, but like game industry wasn't something good
- 37:26to be in at the time. It's even worse now. And yet, it's still the highest
- 37:30grossing thing ever. >> Yeah. >> Like it makes more than movies, it makes
- 37:36more than television, like it's that's where the money is.
- 37:39>> thought, too. You know, I wanted to do me I wanted to make games. That's why I
- 37:42went to uni and did programming and I didn't because I wanted to be like Ron
- 37:48Gilbert and just make a game with a small team and kind of have be a
- 37:53creative little team and do a little bit of everything the way Ron does, like,
- 37:56you know, I do the you know, do work on the story and then I can't do the art,
- 37:59but I can have input on the I can do stuff like that. And then right as I was at
- 38:03uni is when gaming got so big that if I
- 38:09was a programmer I would just be a programmer. And I and I was like I got
- 38:14super disillusioned where I was just like, well, I don't want to do that. I
- 38:16wanted to be creative as well. And so I just didn't.
- 38:20>> Yeah, to be Ron Gilbert you needed to have been Ron Gilbert back in the day. >> Yeah.
- 38:25>> And then he just got fired. >> [laughter] >> Yeah, yeah, he you know he lives in New
- 38:29Zealand now? >> Oh, really? >> Yeah, he moved to New Zealand. He's
- 38:32making Thimbleweed Park Two with uh crowdfunded. >> I'd like to see him.
- 38:36>> [ __ ] awesome, man. Yeah, it's good. Yeah, I love Ron Gilbert. But and things
- 38:40yeah, things came around, right? Because now you can be an indie developer and
- 38:43all that stuff. But I I back like I'm really glad I didn't
- 38:47go into that because I feel like the game industry changed so much. I
- 38:51wouldn't have liked it. And then now, you know, even you know, if I was in there now
- 38:57it's tough right now, man. Like >> Well, even before you had to keep your
- 39:00resume up-to-date cuz now >> It's just like a >> with everyone being laid off like where
- 39:06are you going to even go for a job? >> grinder, man. You just throw humans into
- 39:10it. Like it's brutal. Throw them in >> get the game made, fire them all. >> Yeah.
- 39:17>> Start again. And then they're just firing them all and not even starting again. They're
- 39:20just going AI will do this part for us now. >> Until it costs too much. And then what
- 39:26are they going to do? Come they're going to come crawling back
- 39:30to all the people who are now I don't know what they're going to do.
- 39:34Playing the games. Just playing the games and somehow making money.
- 39:38>> Like I Yeah, I cuz I know people say like people industrial age all happened but people
- 39:43just but where are you adjusting to this time? Like what is >> Yeah.
- 39:49Yeah, if every job can be better done by AI. What do humans do? Well, it's it's what
- 39:55uh Andrew Yang was talking about. Universal basic income, baby. >> Mhm.
- 40:00>> Everybody just gets some money and then uh you know >> Yeah.
- 40:04>> I don't know where the money >> I don't know how that works.
- 40:07>> comes from and how it all you know followed to its conclusion. I don't know how that
- 40:13works. >> No. >> Hopefully some smarter people can figure
- 40:15that out. But the idea that you your government just gives me money and I sit
- 40:19here and do what I want. >> Yes. >> Sounds fine. >> Sounds fine.
- 40:23>> Like nobody would have much money. >> No. >> Like you're not going to get rich like
- 40:27that. >> But also do you need to be >> I think I would go insane though. Just
- 40:34>> Yeah. >> sitting at home with >> Yeah. >> Like
- 40:38>> Well, I mean you could go on vacation. >> Yeah, but
- 40:43>> It's just like really retirement. Like really early retirement. Cuz no one gets
- 40:46to work anymore. >> Well, it's the whole thing like I think people are thinking Star Trek.
- 40:52>> Yeah. Oh, you want to go to space. But like But yeah, like
- 40:56>> The reason Star Trek work is cuz they can replicate food which took away like
- 41:00these replicators which took away the fear of being able to eat and have a
- 41:03roof over your head. Like that was the whole thing. Like there was a
- 41:06>> What do people on Earth do in Star Trek? Like does everybody just work for
- 41:10Starfleet? What do people on Earth do? >> They they still work, but
- 41:13>> mean in like Picard where they like got confused about that where there's
- 41:18like people who are like poor. >> Yeah, I didn't quite understand that. >> That's
- 41:21>> The whole idea is people were just working for the greater good of
- 41:25humanity, but they still like run bars and things like that, but there was no
- 41:30if I don't do this, I'm not eating >> it cuz you want to do it.
- 41:33>> You do it not because you want to do it. You want to improve things and
- 41:36>> That sounds good, mate. That sounds good. >> Mhm.
- 41:40But the problem is is for that to work, all the trillionaires and billionaires need to
- 41:45not worry about money either. >> [laughter] >> They need to
- 41:51>> I have to think they'll just absorb more and more of it. >> Yes.
- 41:54>> yeah, our UBI will get It's more so you know what? We're not going to solve this
- 41:58problem I don't think on this on this podcast. >> think so cuz we've got no power or
- 42:02money. >> Or knowledge. >> [laughter] >> We don't actually know what we're talking about.
- 42:08>> No. >> Um all right. So Epic, yeah. Going all in on the AI and I assume
- 42:13other companies are as well. They're just not being as vocal about it for some reason. Um
- 42:17something different. >> Okay. >> video games. >> Okay.
- 42:21>> We talked recently about you know, you don't own your games. You don't own your
- 42:26games. You don't own your movies. You don't own anything anymore. They're just
- 42:29renting them to you. Uh and they've been forced lately to make it clear that that's what's
- 42:33happening. And I still think a way to do that is you should have how long you will own
- 42:39that license for up front. >> Sure. So then they can shut it down if
- 42:43they need to or want to. >> Yeah, but not uh I'm going to buy this game and then in I
- 42:49don't I don't I'm going to have it 10 years or 2 years, it's a you'll have it
- 42:53for a minimum of this time. >> Well, there's a new bill
- 42:57that's been introduced to Congress. It doesn't mean it's going to go anywhere,
- 42:59but it's called the Power to the Players Act. And basically the point of it is
- 43:05it would force change things so that it basically if
- 43:08you buy a game, it means you own it. You don't license it. They want to make it
- 43:12not illegal to just do that license nonsense. >> Yeah.
- 43:15>> Uh which, you know, the main problem with that stuff is that um
- 43:21you know, they shut down live service games and then you can't play them
- 43:23anymore, which means it's literally useless. You can't play it anymore. I
- 43:26think they want to get rid of that. I don't think it's to be like, you know,
- 43:28if it's like a old console then you don't you know, they don't have to like
- 43:33make sure you can play it on new hardware or anything like that,
- 43:36but it's just to stop them from shutting a game down. You know what I'm saying? >> Yeah.
- 43:39>> Uh >> What they even shut down single player games which >> Yeah, that's what I mean.
- 43:45>> Yeah, well, that's it. >> I think it's to stop that kind of stuff.
- 43:48And I I do think it's just probably good, but I also think it's going to
- 43:51have they're going to have to change the way that they make those games,
- 43:55which is also probably good. >> Yeah. >> Like because you can't really force
- 44:00Well, I mean, maybe they can, who knows, but I don't think it's
- 44:03a service up and running for Yeah, I don't think that's that's not
- 44:08>> You can go from where it's hosting service to look, you >> It runs on the console.
- 44:15>> It runs on the console now. Like this you can set up your own service or do
- 44:18what you want, but we're not paying for that anymore, but if you put the game
- 44:20in, you can play it. >> There's plenty of games where it's a
- 44:23like Resident Evil 4 remake. It's It's single player game that's on my [ __ ]
- 44:26console, right? Like I There's no reason I couldn't own it in the traditional sense.
- 44:32But I don't at the moment because it's on the Xbox. I'm renting it. >> Yes.
- 44:37>> Like a game like that >> purchased it. >> So, this bill would make it so that No,
- 44:42no, they can't do that. If I buy Resident Evil 4 remake on my Xbox, I own
- 44:46it. They can't take it away from me. And I think that's probably good.
- 44:50>> That's good. Whether it gets anywhere >> Exactly. We'll see.
- 44:54>> But and this isn't going to stop them from like oh, we'll never make a remake
- 44:57or anything like that. They still want to They still want [clears throat] to do
- 45:00remakes cuz that's still just another cash inflow for them.
- 45:04>> Now, this is for games like What was that big one recently that came out
- 45:07where they basically released the game and then within a month they just shut
- 45:10it all down and it's like that that it's got to stop that kind of [ __ ] That's
- 45:14not You can't shouldn't be allowed to do that. >> game I have installed at the moment. If
- 45:19I uninstall it, I will never be able to play it again and it came out last year.
- 45:24And it's sort of like like it's hardly ridiculous and it's How
- 45:29is I I I understand that make up cuz it's happening a lot more, but
- 45:34a year is just insane that >> Yeah. Well, this that Well, I was just
- 45:39saying that they didn't make it two months. They didn't make it two months
- 45:41and they were just like, "Nah, [ __ ] it. No one's playing it. Shut it down." But,
- 45:43then people they Not no one's playing it. Some people paid money for that. >> Mhm.
- 45:50>> That rental that you you snatched away from >> And unless you gave back that money
- 45:56>> Mhm. What? No, they they used that money, look.
- 46:00>> But, yeah, hopefully it goes somewhere. I don't know
- 46:02It's something that needs to happen. I don't know I don't know the answer to it.
- 46:07>> No. Well, I mean, I think the answer is is that. It's just like
- 46:14Yeah. >> But, the problem is the life for games that require servers and stuff, you
- 46:17mean? What's the answer? >> Well, the problem is that with it being digital now, so uh
- 46:24cuz the cost this this is where I think it's pretty funny. So, a publisher they
- 46:27can choose to remove it or something, but they're not ones bearing the cost of
- 46:31actually sitting on a storefront >> Yeah. >> to be downloaded from. So, yeah,
- 46:36someone's still paying for that for that storage to keep that up to date to keep
- 46:39that there so you can redownload it any point. >> if it's a single-player game, someone's
- 46:43going to have to make sure you it's accessible. >> Yeah, and so you're going to leave
- 46:47I know, boohoo, Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo. They're the ones that are
- 46:51going to have to do it. What are the publishers >> [laughter]
- 46:53>> So, it's not really fair on them to do it, but at the end they've got enough of
- 46:56my money, so >> Yeah. >> Not defending them, but that is
- 47:00something just to consider because we don't have physical media for it anymore. >> No.
- 47:06>> The games have to be stored somewhere. >> But, are they getting rid of physical
- 47:10media because they want to embrace this >> I >> digital license thing more, in which
- 47:14case would they be like, "Well, okay, we'll do the physical media again."
- 47:17There's no reason for them not to, right? >> it's I don't As much as people jump up
- 47:22and down about physical media >> Oh, yeah. >> they're not buying it, either.
- 47:26>> No, it's way inconvenient. I've got some games on disc only, like older Xbox
- 47:33One games, like like Fallout 4 I have that on disc.
- 47:36>> Well, now you can you can install that and then you get the digital license,
- 47:38which is good. >> No, I know, I know, but like for a long
- 47:41time and and also it's on Game Pass. Yeah, so but but as just as an example,
- 47:45right? If I have to choose If I sit down and I've got a little bit of time to
- 47:48play a game, right? I've got a whole bunch of games that I own digitally and
- 47:52then I've got some games that are on disc. And if I sit down and I'm like,
- 47:55"What am I going to play?" Oh, I'm I haven't played this in a while. Oh, I
- 47:57need the disc. [ __ ] it, I'll play something else. >> Yeah. Like, it's what it comes to.
- 48:02>> Because by some somehow it got too inconvenient for me to just reach down there and get
- 48:08a thing out of a case and put it in there. I'm too lazy to do that now.
- 48:11>> You want Microsoft should listen to me right now. Microsoft, I'm going to make
- 48:15you a fortune and you're going to be the savior of everything at the moment.
- 48:19>> Here we go. This is going to be a short on YouTube and you're going to get rich. Go on.
- 48:23>> All Microsoft need to do is go back to their idea they had for the Xbox One. >> Yes.
- 48:29>> About us being able to have that digital license and us being able to share or on
- 48:34sell it. >> Yeah. >> And the whole idea about the share the selling of it was
- 48:39we would sell it, they would get a cut, the publisher and developer would get a
- 48:43cut, so there's it's not like so with the used market would still be
- 48:47there. Publishers are still getting money, developers are still getting
- 48:51money from it, but we're able to sell our games and which will help. If that
- 48:56do that, the internet will love you. >> And the sharing, Luke buys all the
- 49:00games. Yes. He's going to lend me his and I won't have to buy them anymore.
- 49:04And somehow that will make you money. Microsoft just don't think about it too much.
- 49:10>> Just don't think about it. But I really wish I really hope they got If they do
- 49:13that, they're going to have so much goodwill. >> I know.
- 49:16>> And I think they've started it cuz the technology is still there cuz people
- 49:20are being able to do the Xbox to digital with their Xbox One games. So they've
- 49:23had the technology still sitting there. >> Yeah.
- 49:26>> Do it. So yeah, Microsoft, listen to me. Trust me.
- 49:30>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's right. Somehow me not paying you anymore will
- 49:33make you more money. >> Yes. I think it will. I think more
- 49:36people would go out and invest and >> Mhm. >> And remember I said they would get They
- 49:41would get a cut of the sales as well and >> I mean that was a whole industry on its
- 49:47own, the used game market, which has kind of gone away now cuz of the digital
- 49:50stuff. But they could bring it back. And they could make them money instead of
- 49:53GameStop or EB or whoever the [ __ ] else. >> And hey, mention
- 49:58any game you want to now. Luke, do you have that? Probably. >> Yeah.
- 50:03Little Kitty Big City. >> Actually, I might not because I'm No, I
- 50:06probably wouldn't sell them. I'd just share them with our listeners. >> [laughter]
- 50:11>> You know You're not helping this plan. They're never going to do this.
- 50:14>> The plan will still work. Trust me. >> You've convinced me. Yeah.
- 50:20Um All right. Some I think it's it's kind of big news. It's
- 50:25kind of not big news. There's some news from Valve, all right?
- 50:29So there's been rumors There's some rumors going around. It has been for a
- 50:32while, right? There's something called HLX that's been popping up in in like code.
- 50:39People have spotted People look for this stuff in code now. >> Yeah.
- 50:42>> Like there's something called HLX that they're working on over at Valve. And
- 50:47and it Nobody at Valve has acknowledged this until now. There was a presentation
- 50:53recently. Like just the other day they were talking about um
- 50:57It's a game sound con and they were talking about the art, technology, and
- 51:01business of game audio. And uh they're talking about high dynamic range audio.
- 51:08>> Mhm. >> And the audio artist, Mike Morasky, said this.
- 51:13Our HDR system is basically that's one of the three pieces that come together
- 51:17to make an HDR that you can easily optimize. In fact, I think Dead Lock has
- 51:21their own version of HDR, HLX has its own version, and so on and so forth. And
- 51:25then everybody went >> HLX, I say. >> That's the first time somebody from
- 51:29Valve has ever said that out loud. >> They've actually acknowledged it now, not just
- 51:33>> Um And then afterwards, there's like clips from afterwards that somebody's
- 51:38gotten, and uh one of the some other guy from Valve says to the him afterwards,
- 51:44"Nice work. You only said HLX once."
- 51:49And so, which has only made it worse, because now everyone's like, "What the
- 51:53[ __ ] is HLX?" Everybody thinks it's a new Half-Life game.
- 51:57>> I'm going to go out there and tell So, make my prediction now, it is not
- 52:02Half-Life 3. Valve will never make Half-Life 3 because >> What do you think it is, though?
- 52:08>> I don't know, but it's probably going to be something like Remember when they had
- 52:12the VR thing for >> Sure. >> That's going to be something like that. They're not They
- 52:17They don't know what They were to release Half-Life
- 52:20>> games, though. He said Dead Lock. Dead Lock's a game. He's
- 52:23HLX He said Dead Lock has their own version of HDR, HLX has its own version.
- 52:28Sounds like he's talking about a game. >> It sounds like a game, but I Yeah, but
- 52:32might be another VR thing. Might be It's not going to be a >> You're right.
- 52:35>> It's not going to be Half-Life 3. They will never make it because no matter
- 52:38what they do, that game will be panned. They will never be able to make anyone happy.
- 52:44>> I mean, they might not call it Half-Life 2. But Wait, who Okay.
- 52:50Does Valve still make games? >> I'm actually looking into at the moment.
- 52:54>> What the [ __ ] does Valve do now? Other than Steam, obviously.
- 52:57>> Just They do Steam Machine. They do hardware and and
- 52:59>> So, and they sell games on a platform. And I know they've They've like
- 53:03>> They've got like >> small >> Aperture Desk Job, yeah. Artifact
- 53:07Foundry, Half-Life Alyx, Counter-Strike 2, Deadlock. So,
- 53:13>> They They used to make triple A games. What are they working on?
- 53:16>> I don't even think they've got the people to make Half-Life 3. >> Really? Okay.
- 53:21I just What do they do over there? I applied for a job at Valve once.
- 53:24>> I think they just They just cash their checks. >> Yeah.
- 53:29>> Cuz they make 30% off every sale. And so, they just sit there and make
- 53:34money. And the other thing is it's private. It's not like even they're
- 53:37sharing with stockholders. So, Gabe will just sit there and eats money.
- 53:44>> I I applied for a job at Valve because they had They had a
- 53:48openings for um programmers. And then it had specifically in the in the like what
- 53:53life's like at Valve kind of thing, this whole thing about how
- 53:57you all the desks are on wheels, and if you decide you want to work in a
- 54:00different department, you just unplug, you just wheel your desk over to the
- 54:03other part. And I was like, "That sounds sick." Is that still like that there?
- 54:06>> I think it does cuz you don't really hear Valve going, "Oh, we're laying off
- 54:11a thousand people." or anything. And I think it's because
- 54:14>> But what are all these people doing? >> Well, Gabe, it's all private. So, he's
- 54:18not answering to anyone. They don't have to constantly be going and answering to
- 54:21the stockholders. >> He's just on his yacht these days. >> He just
- 54:25He just gets money and lets people do what they want. Um
- 54:29>> He's just sailing around his yacht. >> I I honestly don't think they they'd
- 54:31have enough people to make Half-Life 3. It's not a
- 54:35They'd be You need hundreds of people to be working on that, not just a handful
- 54:39of people. And I don't even know who works How many they've got, but yeah.
- 54:45>> I don't know. This article's You know, people have been talking about
- 54:49this for a long time, and there've been uh reputable journalists adamant it's coming.
- 54:54>> say Half-Life 2 wasn't that good a game.
- 55:01It wasn't. >> Elaborate. >> You shoot things, you now drive here,
- 55:07you shoot things, you know, drive here, you shoot things, you know, drive here.
- 55:10It was a very repetitive game. >> That's You think you know the Mad Max game?
- 55:14>> No, I'm thinking of Half-Life 2. >> Yeah, you didn't shoot things a lot in
- 55:17the Mad Max game. >> I actually liked Mad Max game. >> It was It was a good game.
- 55:22>> [laughter] >> I want Mad Max over Half-Life 3. Give me another one of them.
- 55:27>> I I I I agree with that, actually. >> Yeah. >> George Miller didn't like that game.
- 55:32>> I don't know why. >> It wasn't good because it wasn't It sort
- 55:35of fits his whole idea, like the movies um >> Well, they gave him all the material.
- 55:40>> Yeah, it's >> Sorry, he gave them all the material,
- 55:42and he just didn't like what they did with it, which is really interesting,
- 55:43which is why if you watch um uh Furiosa uh
- 55:49it's got Did the game come out before Fury Road even? Like >> definitely. >> Yeah, okay.
- 55:56>> Because all the stuff The game has stuff that's in the movies, but it's
- 55:59different. And I but I guess he just was like, "No, no, no, that's not That's not right."
- 56:03>> I just don't think he's into the games. >> I think
- 56:06Yeah, I don't know. Also, I don't know how well that game did. I really enjoyed
- 56:10it, and I would love to see a sequel to that. I [snorts] thought it was good. >> Mhm.
- 56:15>> It was a bit repetitive. Yeah. >> But not as repetitive as Half-Life 2.
- 56:20And I'm prepared to fight [laughter] people over this. >> Uh
- 56:25All right. Well, uh we'll see what HLX is. At some point we'll find out. >> Mhm.
- 56:30>> Uh presumably. But yeah, it's it's not Half-Life 3.
- 56:33People should just stop even thinking about it.
- 56:37Uh I have not seen um You can see everything yet. I have not had a chance to see it.
- 56:44>> I have found out when I will get to see I'll get to see it on the 12th of November.
- 56:49>> That's still a while. >> It's actually being released here now,
- 56:52but we're not getting it until the 12th. So, I'll be going to see that. Next week
- 56:56I'll be going to see Clayface. >> Oh, yeah.
- 57:02Yeah, reviews say that's fine. >> Yeah. This week I did see other mummy.
- 57:07>> Oh, yeah. How's that? >> Um that was okay. It wasn't It wasn't what I was expecting.
- 57:13>> Okay. >> But, it was good. I enjoyed it. And then, what else I saw? I saw Street
- 57:17Fighter. >> Oh, okay. Come on. Come on. >> Street Fighter. So, Street Fighter and
- 57:21The Mummy is just a bit of a horror movie. It's just, yeah.
- 57:24Not bad, but Street Fighter, that was good, but it could have been great. >> Okay.
- 57:31>> They did not lean into the camp enough. >> Oh, okay.
- 57:34>> Like, they were just towing the line. Like, there was some very campy bits. It
- 57:38was fun, but they just didn't quite commit to it for the entire thing.
- 57:42>> Like, took it too seriously? >> Oh, no. It was still funny. It was still
- 57:46But, they could have made it It was just a Yeah, just not quite
- 57:50there. Just missed it. But, they set themselves up for a sequel.
- 57:54I mean, it was still good. >> they have. >> Like, no. I mean, like, this is
- 57:59completely open. Like, it's >> Yeah. Yeah. No. No. I'm sure. Of course.
- 58:04Yeah, they're going to make more of these. >> Yeah. I Yeah, they They'd be crazy not to.
- 58:09>> Yeah. All right. So, you recommend >> I recommend seeing
- 58:12>> Street Fighter over The Mummy? >> Yes. Very, very different movies. I saw
- 58:17them back-to-back. >> [laughter] >> Yeah. >> And both movies, I had a private screening.
- 58:23>> Really? Oh, just you? >> Just me. >> Wow. >> I've actually convinced I don't actually
- 58:27have to pay to go to the movies. >> You just walk in there?
- 58:30>> Cuz whenever I go, I'll go like I'll sort of leave work a bit early to go at 4:30.
- 58:36And then, [clears throat] I just walk in. There's no one checking my ticket. There's no
- 58:41>> Yeah, I guess that if you're the only person there, then they can go, "Well,
- 58:45there he is, and he bought a ticket." Whereas, if you just walk in, they're
- 58:48going to be like, "Who the [ __ ] is that guy? There shouldn't be anybody here."
- 58:50>> Well, also, cuz it's like if they don't sell any tickets, do they bother even
- 58:54hitting play? Cuz I can't really walk out and complain that it's not showing.
- 58:59>> That's an interesting question. I don't know. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, I wanted
- 59:02to watch the movie. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Well, we haven't sold any tickets for
- 59:06this one, so >> I mean, I guess I guess they would have to, right?
- 59:10Because what if people come late, and they're like, "Fuck it, I'll just go see the movie."
- 59:15>> Well, you still got to sit through half an hour of ads, so. There's
- 59:20They'll probably straight up, but whether they start the movie or not.
- 59:23I've actually had to walk out and go, "Hey, can you start the movie?" before,
- 59:26though, as well. >> Why? Cuz the ads were too long or
- 59:30>> No, no, it just didn't start. The ads went, all went through, and then just
- 59:34sat there in [laughter] the dark. >> Oh, okay. >> That was weird.
- 59:40>> You sure it wasn't a creative choice? >> I waited enough for it to make find out
- 59:44it wasn't a creative choice, yes. >> All right. Uh, on the topic of movies,
- 59:51um, the James Bond screen tests are happening this weekend.
- 59:57So, as we record this >> Do we know who the next Bond is?
- 1:00:01>> Uh, by the time you hear this podcast, they will have done them. And, uh, yeah.
- 1:00:06>> Do we know who's in the running? >> I think so. >> Is it still just speculation at the
- 1:00:11moment? >> Callum Turner, Jack O'Connell, and Jack Lowden are in the running.
- 1:00:17Uh, maybe more people. I'm not sure. I mean I don't think we know for sure, no.
- 1:00:23>> I'm just looking at the pictures of all of them, and this looks like they're
- 1:00:26going for a Bond that I don't want to see. >> Yeah? >> This looks like it's going to be a
- 1:00:31serious Bond again. >> Yeah, you're probably right.
- 1:00:35>> Yeah. We've had serious Bond, now we need fun Bond. >> Yeah.
- 1:00:41>> [snorts] >> Well, we'll find out soon enough, I guess.
- 1:00:46>> Come on, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, you've still got a chance.
- 1:00:49>> I don't think he does. I know I know I agree that that would be fun.
- 1:00:53>> Oh, while not at the movies, I did see something quite strange. >> Mhm.
- 1:00:57>> We're going to have the new, um, Marvel movie going up against
- 1:01:03Dune. That's weird. >> Dune 2. >> Yeah, Dune 2, yeah. Like they're a day apart.
- 1:01:09>> Yeah, they don't normally do that. We've got some Star Wars news. It's It's not a
- 1:01:12lot of Star Wars >> Is it good Star Wars news? >> Probably. It's probably for the best. Um
- 1:01:18>> Taika Waititi says his Star Wars movie is on ice. It's not happening anymore.
- 1:01:24>> I'm the sort of happy with that. I don't know what's happened with him.
- 1:01:29>> I So, there was a Reddit thread about about this. It was basically like, "What
- 1:01:32the [ __ ] happened to Taika Waititi?" And somebody said I I don't know if this is
- 1:01:37true. Speculation. [clears throat] He split from his uh wife
- 1:01:43who was his creative >> Maybe she was contributing a lot more than
- 1:01:48>> And And then somebody else said, again, this is all hearsay and speculation.
- 1:01:51Somebody said he's got a very big ego. >> I can actually see that as well. It
- 1:01:57really does seem that You can see it from the way he dresses
- 1:02:01now to when he How he dressed in the past. He seems
- 1:02:04>> Yeah. He's kind of crawled up his own ass a bit. Again, I don't know for sure.
- 1:02:09I've never met the guy. I don't know anything about it.
