- 0:51Happy to see you on talks today.
- 0:54Welcome, everybody.
- 0:55Uh, please welcome Tasha.
- 0:57She's a sim racer, streamer, and YouTuber.
- 0:59And as I know, she's racing in Gran Turismo 7, and is
- 1:03at the Corsa Competizione.
- 1:05So that means we're going to have a really fun interview today,
- 1:08um, with talking a lot about sim racing, racing, and motorsports.
- 1:13Welcome, Tasha.
- 1:15Hi, hi.
- 1:16Thanks for having me.
- 1:18Yeah.
- 1:19I love what you guys are doing with the NA eSports and Screen to Speed.
- 1:21It's so awesome to be a part of it all.
- 1:23Thank you.
- 1:25So I feel like sim racing is such a game changer for so many people.
- 1:30So can you tell me How did you get into sim racing?
- 1:35How you started your way?
- 1:38Um, my very first foray into sim racing was I was probably five years
- 1:44old on a Commodore 64 playing test drive with the keyboard and the little
- 1:50dot on the steering wheel, telling you where the ceiling steering wheel
- 1:54is pointed and graphics that look pretty much like Minecraft these days.
- 1:58So, wow.
- 1:59I started out many, many years ago.
- 2:02I'm 44 in a couple of days.
- 2:04So that's 39 years I've been playing on sim games.
- 2:08That's really cool.
- 2:09So I also, I played in test drive.
- 2:11There was a second one Unlimited.
- 2:14It was really fun to play.
- 2:17I really love it What was your first simulator in the first actual simulator?
- 2:25so we went out and bought a ps4 for the family and While we were
- 2:31there doing it, it was Christmas.
- 2:32It was gonna be a present I saw Gran Turismo Sports for like five
- 2:37or ten dollars sitting on the thing.
- 2:38I was like, oh yeah, I'll just grab this, you know, it's cheap.
- 2:41And I've always played racing games and loved them.
- 2:44Like Project Gotham Racing was super fun with motorcycles and cars mixed together.
- 2:49And um, that's the first place where I ever saw the Nordschleife.
- 2:53I think they called it, uh, oh, I can't remember what they called
- 2:57it, but I always mispronounced the Nordschleife because of it.
- 3:01Um, but we got home.
- 3:04And Christmas comes around, we get everything set up, and the kids play
- 3:07on it, and the kids go to bed, and the next thing you know, I plug in
- 3:10Gran Turismo, and I'm like, oh my god, this is like, this is really cool, I
- 3:14remember Gran Turismo 1, and I was so excited, but Sport is like, game changer.
- 3:20So, I played on it with um, I've played around with like, Race
- 3:24Asylum and a couple other leagues.
- 3:26And everybody was super, um, supportive and like, this is how you get better.
- 3:31And they're talking to me about how to drive with a wheel.
- 3:33And I'm like, I'm sitting here on a controller.
- 3:35I'm like, this is not nearly as much fun as it could be.
- 3:39So I went out and bought myself a T 150 and the pedals broke.
- 3:44So I went to load cell TLCM pedals.
- 3:47And then that broke and I was like, okay, this is it.
- 3:51I'm done messing around with these cheap wheels.
- 3:54Started searching around and I got myself a Fanatec CSL Elite from my
- 3:58nephew and he sold it to me for 400.
- 4:02Porsche 918 RSR replica wheel, um, load cell, uh, V2 pedals.
- 4:08And I got the rig set up in my room.
- 4:12And my, my daughter moved out, so I actually finally got
- 4:15room for an actual racing rig.
- 4:17And I got it set up in here and it's non stop ever since.
- 4:21Every chance I get, I'm sitting in here.
- 4:24That's awesome.
- 4:24I really started in the same way.
- 4:26So step by step, um, also improving my equipment, uh, back in the days
- 4:31I started with a G27, uh, and, uh, then switched to TLCM pedals, uh, the
- 4:36same way as you did, um, So now with the T818, Direct Drive wheel and the
- 4:43same TLCM pedals and a better rig.
- 4:47Triple, uh, started with a single screen.
- 4:50That was an absolute game changer to change to the triple screen, uh, for
- 4:54myself because you actually see more.
- 4:57Uh, it's really cool.
- 4:59Absolutely, I can't wait to go triples and get a PC that'll run the higher end games.
- 5:05Um, right now I'm working off of a laptop that's, uh, Eight years old I think
- 5:09and I mean it was a high end gaming laptop when I got it, but not today
- 5:18So, um as soon as I get a chance I need about 12 1300 for all I need is the box
- 5:24I have everything else and Then I can start working into, uh, PC sim racing
- 5:32and go for triples and stuff like that.
- 5:34I'm super excited.
- 5:37I was warned about drugs when I was a kid, everyone's like, Oh, don't do drugs.
- 5:42You know what?
- 5:43I did the whole, we're in high school, we're in college and give it a shot.
- 5:48And it's not worth your time.
- 5:50Right.
- 5:50But then I started sim racing and this is, this is what they should
- 5:53have warned me about because this is where all my money goes.
- 5:59Yeah, that's a thing which you actually can start but you never can stop to
- 6:03like improve your rig, improve your gaming room and everything and you
- 6:07just spend a lot of money on this.
- 6:09Yeah, there's always something else to buy.
- 6:12My wife wanted me to give her a list for my birthday this year and I've
- 6:17got neon signs on there, I've got um, like the Nordschleife wire track,
- 6:25Lamborghini wire model to put on the wall.
- 6:29Everything that I have on there is like to improve my streaming
- 6:32space and she's like you don't want anything else I'm like I have makeup.
- 6:36I have clothes.
- 6:36I have shoes um I've got a Dodge Charger, that one's pretty okay.
- 6:42No, I need stuff for sim racing.
- 6:46Yeah, that's cool.
- 6:47My whole life.
- 6:48You got the whole list with your wishes for the gaming room.
- 6:53That's awesome.
- 6:56Speaking about upgrades, what do you want to upgrade next in your
- 7:01gaming room and your sim rig?
- 7:05So the gaming room is already getting upgrades because my wife is excited
- 7:10about all the presents she bought me So i'm good on that one for right now
- 7:14What I really need is either the profile rig or a pc that'll run iRacing and
- 7:21ACC with higher settings and triples.
- 7:23That's my next.
- 7:25Let's go.
- 7:26That sounds good.
- 7:27So you want to get into iRacing and I'm pretty sure you're going to enjoy it.
- 7:33And with your experience in ACC already and Gran Turismo,
- 7:36you'll get used to it quite fast.
- 7:40Absolutely.
- 7:41No, I was so Gran Turismo was like my gig for a long time because
- 7:45I was on PS4 and like I tried doing ACC on PS4 and it's just.
- 7:53Like it's almost there, but I couldn't get the feel for it.
- 7:56I didn't like it.
- 7:58And when I finally was able to upgrade it onto PS5, I loaded up
- 8:04ACC and I played Gran Turismo.
- 8:07When, uh, DTR, some friends of mine, when they do their series, I do it for
- 8:12the Scaly Punk Charity Racing series because it's fun to hang out with all of
- 8:17my friends, and we're raising money for charities and good stuff, but for the most
- 8:21part, if I'm simracing now, I'm on ACC until the I get a PC and I can move on.
- 8:27Mm hmm.
- 8:27Yeah, I understand this.
- 8:30It's really good that we got opportunity like people can race on consoles
- 8:35and they can race on PC as well and can choose Uh, like different
- 8:39simulators to jump into some racing.
- 8:40That's a great opportunity.
- 8:42Definitely Um, this is where I really like because you know So many people
- 8:46coming to my stream also asking me like can I start from console?
- 8:50Can I like play ACC there or something like this?
- 8:54You So, yeah, and then the next step when you, um, like upgrading to PC,
- 8:59you're getting into a racing, into, um, higher quality ACC, it's awesome.
- 9:07Yeah, I can't wait.
- 9:08Like, I'm like dying to put a custom livery on my car on ACC now.
- 9:13Oh, yeah.
- 9:16Can you tell me more?
- 9:17You just mentioned the SkellyPong charity raising.
- 9:21What kind of charities did you do already?
- 9:24And I know that you've raised kind of a lot of money for this and that's great.
- 9:29That's a really good thing which you're doing.
- 9:33So that was a friend of mine that actually started it.
- 9:36And when it was, when it first began, it was called, um, pleb charity racing
- 9:41series, and it went on for a while.
- 9:45He raised quite a bit of money on it.
- 9:47And then he switched the name up to skelly punk around the same time as
- 9:51my team name changed from a blackout racing to transmission motorsport.
- 9:57And that's been about a year and a half.
- 9:59We've raised about 1, 200 or so.
- 10:03Through a series and a couple of endurance special events.
- 10:06And then we get together, we've got two different lobbies.
- 10:09We've got pro am for the fast drivers and we've got pro for the very fast drivers.
- 10:15And, um, last season was amazing.
- 10:18We had a lot of fun doing it.
- 10:19Phil did his first stint doing comms.
- 10:22It was really fun watching him get into it.
- 10:25And I do comms for the pro lobby because I wasn't fast enough to get into that one.
- 10:29So Um, that's how I found out that I love doing comms.
- 10:34It's awesome.
- 10:35Um, but um, we've raised money for mind charity rain um equality, texas Cerebral
- 10:44palsy alliance and basically Our next one I think is going to be for breast
- 10:49cancer research, but we just look for the most reputable You Charities that we
- 10:56can and find them on Tiltify and support them all through the through the season
- 11:05This is uh, this is great that we got, you know, I I know a lot of great events
- 11:10for charity in sim racing and Um some of them in gaming also, but it's really
- 11:16cool that community supportive for these charities and also we're getting
- 11:22a lot of people to jump into this races.
- 11:24Um, that's great.
- 11:27And there's a lot of fun too, because especially when we've got a couple of
- 11:31guys that make custom decals for it.
- 11:33So we've always got a range of custom decals that people can put on
- 11:38their cars with their requirements.
- 11:40And Every season we've got, what, 20 30 cars that have different
- 11:47liveries on them that they put so much work into and it looks so great.
- 11:52Yeah, custom liveries, uh, that's a good thing in sim racing also.
- 11:57I can't make the custom liveries, I always ask other people to
- 12:00do it for me because Mm hmm.
- 12:03I'm a driver.
- 12:04I can drive and I can talk.
- 12:06Don't ask me to do art.
- 12:10Awesome.
- 12:11Yeah, my husband's taking this from me, so he's also making liveries
- 12:15for me and emotes for my channel.
- 12:19So I'm doing driving and talking a lot.
- 12:23Nice!
- 12:25I tried to get my wife to help me with some things in it, but
- 12:28she's just No, she plays Sims 4.
- 12:31That's her simulator.
- 12:32She plays Sims 4.
- 12:35Well, at least she We've got our own Sim addiction.
- 12:38It's just that they're completely different.
- 12:40Well, she's investing in your wish list for your gaming room.
- 12:44That's good.
- 12:45Absolutely!
- 12:47I've invested about 1, 500 in her Sims game.
- 12:53Oh,
- 12:55that's nice.
- 12:56And I made myself, um, my first rig was.
- 13:00I took a piece of countertop off of a job and some plywood,
- 13:05a couple of two by fours.
- 13:06And then I threw a, um, eight by eight in there because it was just
- 13:09too light and it was sliding around.
- 13:11And I built myself something that slides in front of the couch with the
- 13:15pedals locked in and the steering wheel on it and mounted a monitor to it.
- 13:19And that was my rig for nearly a year.
- 13:24And every time I got it out to plan, she's like, well, where's mine?
- 13:27I'm like, what do you need a rig for?
- 13:28You're playing sense.
- 13:31So her birthday rolls around and I went out we had an old table and I cut
- 13:35it up and Murdered it and put it back together into a really nice looking thing
- 13:40where it's got her keyboard, her laptop and mounted a monitor on it for her.
- 13:44Now she's got her own little rig for Sims 4.
- 13:50Really cool that you're making stuff by yourself.
- 13:53Um, because when we started sim racing, so there was a during pandemic
- 13:58for me, uh, and we, like, I had to.
- 14:02Oh, the same for you, that's really cool.
- 14:05Um, so I had G27 and when we switched to triple screen, uh, unfortunately
- 14:10didn't have opportunity to just buy the, uh, the stand for triple.
- 14:15Uh, so we made it out the plywood with my husband and it's still alive.
- 14:19It's, uh, on the second rig.
- 14:21It's really cool when you, you know, making, uh, things by yourself and, um,
- 14:27I think people just shouldn't be afraid to build something by themselves, uh,
- 14:31because, you know, someone, um, like, plywood is, uh, hard enough to, like,
- 14:37to have a really good triple stand, for example, or the rig as well, so
- 14:42at least you can start from something.
- 14:45Exactly, I mean, anything that you can do to get into it, and if you
- 14:49can't afford a wheel and you can't afford pedals, Play on the controller.
- 14:53There are people that are three, four seconds faster than me on controller.
- 14:58Like I, anybody can do anything.
- 15:00That's my favorite thing about sim racing in the world is it's so accessible.
- 15:05Yeah.
- 15:06I can't afford to go and buy a real car to race with.
- 15:08I can't afford to take my real car on a racetrack and destroy
- 15:12it because somebody hit me.
- 15:14So.
- 15:14I can do it on the game anytime I want to.
- 15:18Oh, it's midnight and I want to go hit a racetrack.
- 15:20Ah, here it is, right here.
- 15:21Turn everything on and I'm there.
- 15:24And the main thing, the crashes are free in SimRacing.
- 15:28And the crashes are free.
- 15:29Yeah.
- 15:32I remember when I did, uh, that was Forza Motorsport, a championship, which I did.
- 15:37I did it on my wheel.
- 15:38And, uh, everybody We're driving with the wheels, uh, but on the
- 15:44one event, they, uh, invite really fast drivers and controllers.
- 15:48And as you said, they were faster, like by three, four seconds than,
- 15:52uh, the fastest driver on the wheel.
- 15:55It was really, really cool.
- 15:58I don't know how they do it, like, I, and, there's a couple of things,
- 16:03okay, so on controller I don't get it because there's like, it's so hard to
- 16:07be consistent with every turn, it's like, oh, I need to turn the wheel this
- 16:10much, but on the controller it's like, I need to move my thumb this much.
- 16:13I can't stop moving!
- 16:16It's like, how are you hitting your marks like that?
- 16:19Like, I don't get it.
- 16:21Yeah.
- 16:21I'm in the same boat with you, I just, uh, I got no idea how to drive this
- 16:25controller, like, I can't control the car with a stick in the way I'm,
- 16:29how I'm doing this on the wheel.
- 16:31Uh, right, and then the other thing that gets me is, like, I get it, the kids that
- 16:35are younger, jumping into a racing rig and being like, Just being able to Basically
- 16:42break the rules of physics because you know in the sim racing you can do
- 16:45things you can't do in real life, right?
- 16:47so they find the exploits and they're able to Correct oversteer or save these
- 16:55wrecks and I just don't get it because like when i'm sitting here I don't feel
- 16:59the G slide me over in my real car.
- 17:02Um, I hope there aren't any cops watching my real car, of course, too fast.
- 17:07Sometimes I want to start to understeer.
- 17:09I know exactly what to do and how to handle it.
- 17:12I've come around blind corners and had semi trucks in my lane.
- 17:16And I've had to go into a shoulder that it's not wide enough for my car.
- 17:21And I've been able to skim past them and not get hit.
- 17:24Right.
- 17:25But on the sim racing, it's like, I can't, there's not the feeling.
- 17:29I can't quite get them.
- 17:30Get the speeds that they can, but I'm never gonna give up, give up.
- 17:34I'm working on it and constantly improving.
- 17:37So that's the main thing, uh, to go step by step or as, uh, the same
- 17:42way as you doing with equipment.
- 17:44You doing the same way with your driving.
- 17:46You just, uh, step by step improving.
- 17:48Um, so speaking about your car, do you ever think maybe to take your
- 17:53car and do the test day or something like track day on the real track?
- 17:57Um, and, um, what do you think?
- 18:01Will it be possible for you to ever jump into real life racing?
- 18:06I will promise you I am relentless and stubborn.
- 18:11One day I will be in a fast car on a real track, like it is going to happen.
- 18:18So my car, no, it's, I've got a lowly V6 2010 Dodge Charger.
- 18:25I mean, it's, it can be fun if you've got like a 25 mile an hour corner and
- 18:30you're going around it at like 35 or 40.
- 18:32Great, but um, other than that it's just a daily driver.
- 18:38I need to get something like even a little Mazda MX 5 or something.
- 18:43I don't care, I'll take anything to a track.
- 18:45But I'm going to be working on getting a car I can take on track.
- 18:49That's really nice.
- 18:50Uh, do you have any racing tracks, uh, where you're living?
- 18:56Um, Portland International.
- 18:58Awesome.
- 18:59Um, you guys had Ms.
- 19:01KB Anderson on here and I friended her up and got onto her Instagram like
- 19:08instantly and we've been chatting and I've actually been invited to go and
- 19:12hang out with her on some of the days because she works on the crew in the pits.
- 19:21It's my earliest opportunity that she's going to be there.
- 19:24I'm going to go hang out with her and get into the pits and see how everything
- 19:29is really done and meet some drivers.
- 19:30And, um, hopefully by then I can get a racing license and I kind of goots
- 19:38my way into somebody's car somehow.
- 19:42Yeah, that's good.
- 19:44Um, I'm Do you see that we're getting more women into motorsports
- 19:50and in sim racing as well?
- 19:51And how do you feel by yourself to be a woman in the, um, you know,
- 19:57of course, the male dominated sim racing and racing as well?
- 20:03Um, my experience has been an interesting one.
- 20:07I expected not only for it to be like the bro scene where everybody is rude to
- 20:14women or you don't belong here and that kind of thing and I haven't had that at
- 20:18all and I I've met so many amazing people.
- 20:22It's a great it's a great place for getting support like um when I met or
- 20:29not when I met because I heard of Sophie and Yvonne both from race asylum many
- 20:34many years ago three or four But when I actually started getting to know them
- 20:40I don't like six months to a year ago.
- 20:43I found out about the, in the e sports and screen to speed and the
- 20:48whole community of the, the number of women that want to be involved in it.
- 20:52It's just amazing.
- 20:53And I love that they've got this welcoming place for us all to go
- 20:56come and join and, um, talk, give each other tips and find new series
- 21:01to waste against each other with.
- 21:02And I love it.
- 21:05I, I think more little girls would be into it if they had the opportunity.
- 21:11Yeah, definitely.
- 21:12And I just love seeing it grow.
- 21:17Women in motorsports is nice.
- 21:25Young girls, they're going to see like more streamers, more sim
- 21:28racers, more girls in racing also.
- 21:33They will have a dream also to get into sim racing one day or
- 21:37into real life racing as well.
- 21:40So that's great, which in it.
- 21:44eSports doing for us and, um, overall community in sim
- 21:48racing are really friendly.
- 21:49I noticed that also, you know, I've been, um, in, in real life racing
- 21:53and it's a more toxic community compared to what we got in sim racing.
- 21:58And, uh, to be honest, I'm so happy that I'm in sim racing right now.
- 22:03And, uh, Twitch community pretty, uh, pretty and, uh, supportive as well.
- 22:09Um, what do you think about Gran Turismo 7 community?
- 22:13So we just, uh, been talking with, uh, other guests about F1 community.
- 22:18Uh, from my side, I was talking about a racing community.
- 22:20So I would like to know, um, how do you feel in, uh, Gran Turismo 7?
- 22:26The Gran Turismo community was Great for it being accessible and teaching
- 22:32me the basics and finding people to surround myself with and Like feel
- 22:38supported and a part of something um, I really wish they would do a little bit
- 22:45more listening to their fan base and you know, maybe some upgrades tracks
- 22:51cars that kind of thing, but it's
- 22:54It's not my favorite anymore.
- 22:56I loved Gran Turismo until I got ACC on PS5.
- 23:02Now Gran Turismo is like, I'm gonna relax and play with my friends.
- 23:05ACC is like, I must get faster.
- 23:09Understand this.
- 23:10We all got that kind of games which we play, uh, like occasionally with friends.
- 23:17Um, and then simulator where you really hard racing with everybody.
- 23:22Um, can you tell me what is your favorite, uh, track in the set?
- 23:25Of course, competes you on the, and the favorite car as well.
- 23:30Um, I don't really know for sure about a favorite car yet.
- 23:34I've only really driven the 992.
- 23:36I think it's the 23992 Porsche and the Lambo Evo two.
- 23:43So I'm sure there are two totally different cars to drive.
- 23:48Um, and Gran Turismo 7, when I first started, the Lambo just wanted to
- 23:52kill you, the Group 3 Lamborghini.
- 23:55And the Porsche was super easy to drive.
- 23:58And as the updates came through, the Lambo got nerfed, and now they
- 24:03almost drive the same, but the Porsche drives nicer than Lamborghini does.
- 24:08And then, on ACC, it's like, the Lamborghini is so much easier
- 24:13to drive than the Porsche.
- 24:14The Porsche just wants to murder you everywhere you go.
- 24:18But I like both of them, they're both a different kind of challenge
- 24:23to get your times down on the track.
- 24:27Um, as far as track is concerned, um, I really like Imola now that
- 24:32I've had a chance to drive it.
- 24:33Silverstone's a lot of fun, but I really just love the Nordschleife all,
- 24:42every different way you can do it.
- 24:43The N24, the Nurburgring GP, that's, it's where you go to
- 24:48relax and drive way too fast.
- 24:54One day I'm hoping to make my way over to Germany and at least visit
- 24:58it, but I'd love to move there.
- 25:03Yeah, I think that many people will be jealous for those people who's
- 25:08living next to the Nordschleife and got opportunity to like near everyday
- 25:13race here and have a track day.
- 25:17Oh, I know the jealousy of it.
- 25:18I know a person who lives there and actually works there.
- 25:23And like I saw a video of them repaving part of the track.
- 25:28And so, the first thing I did was message her on Discord and be like, What's this?
- 25:33And she's like, Oh yeah, I started yesterday and this is what they're
- 25:36doing and they're ruining this corner by adding a curb that's taller.
- 25:39I'm like, Thanks.
- 25:42You want to sponsor somebody to move down there?
- 25:44Like, I can help you pay rent.
- 25:49I'll drive you to work.
- 25:52Anything I can do, just get me to Germany.
- 25:54I think that Germany is a really nice country to live in.
- 26:01Um, so I hope you're going to have this opportunity in the future
- 26:04to move into your dream country and be close to Nordschleife.
- 26:10You know what's funny too is like living where I do in the United States.
- 26:14I feel like if I did go to Germany, it would be like the same, but they speak
- 26:22a different language from everybody that I've talked to over there.
- 26:26I've got so many German friends.
- 26:28It's it's almost like the same as the state that I live in.
- 26:32The trees look the same.
- 26:34The weather looks the same.
- 26:35Everything looks the same.
- 26:36And I'm just like, see, I'm, I'm in the right climate.
- 26:39I'm in the right place.
- 26:41geographical kind of location.
- 26:44I'm just not in the right part of the world.
- 26:49All right, um, talking about your streams, how do you enjoy them?
- 26:53And do you find hard to drive and talk at the same time?
- 27:00Sometimes driving and talking at the same time is just not my thing.
- 27:05Um, I do my best, but there are times that I'm Like in the middle
- 27:11of a race, I'm trying to go as fast as I can and push it to the limits.
- 27:14And I see a little chat message pop up over here and I'm
- 27:17like, Oh, who's that crash?
- 27:20So, uh, it's been a lot of work trying to find that happy medium of where can I look
- 27:26at my chats and how can I pay attention to my viewers and still not destroy my race?
- 27:32Um, I started streaming just for like prosperity sake, you know,
- 27:37like, Oh, there was an incident I can go back on my stream.
- 27:40I don't have to search through a replay or.
- 27:42And my friends could come and watch my laps and stuff like that.
- 27:46It was mostly just to keep track of things and my progress as I was getting better.
- 27:51And then I started getting a couple of followers.
- 27:55I still don't have many, but I started getting a couple of
- 27:57followers that I didn't know.
- 27:59And I'm like, Oh, this is, this is kind of fun.
- 28:01I like talking to people.
- 28:02And then we had a Commentary person drop out for one of
- 28:07the scaly punk charity races.
- 28:08And I was like, I'll do it.
- 28:11And I found myself running my mouth for two and a half hours, maybe three.
- 28:16And I was like, this is kind of fun.
- 28:18I like judging other people's driving and talking about it and
- 28:21laughing with the people on chats.
- 28:24So I was like, okay, I'm going to make this like a side gig.
- 28:27It's a good thing for racers to do when they are sim racers to do when
- 28:30they don't feel like sim racing.
- 28:32Or just to engage with the fanbase.
- 28:35So, that's when I got into commentary, but I really love it.
- 28:40I'm starting to find my, um, oh, my groove so that I can stream, manage talking with
- 28:49chat, and not completely destroy my race.
- 28:52Um, early on I had anger and temper issues because I just
- 28:59didn't have the consistency, you know, going around the track.
- 29:03Besides the fact that I'm streaming, I wasn't that great anyway.
- 29:07And so I would get upset and the rest of my race would get ruined.
- 29:10So over the last, probably eight months to a year, I've been tempering that down.
- 29:16So that it's like, okay, this happened.
- 29:19I missed my breaking point and slid into the grass.
- 29:22I didn't destroy my car.
- 29:23I'm still in the race and I'm going to keep going until it's over.
- 29:26And I'm just not going to be mad because what happens when you get mad?
- 29:30You start making mistakes you You're trying to push over drive the car and the
- 29:35next thing, you know, it's like oh I can get closer to that sausage No, I can't
- 29:41There is no closer to the sausage than I was driving before now my
- 29:44car is Balancing off into the wall on the other side of the track.
- 29:46So, um, Staying calm keeping cool.
- 29:51Just keeping everything smooth.
- 29:53That's the whole goal of it and And just getting better every
- 29:57day Well, I hope it's every day.
- 30:02Well, it's really hard sometimes to find this focus, uh, on
- 30:06track instead of focus on chat.
- 30:08Uh, so I'm struggling as well with this, uh, but it just get
- 30:12better with some practice, uh, because you just like, if you.
- 30:16Okay, I'm going to be focused on the track instead of, uh, focusing on chat.
- 30:23Uh, so just let, let know viewers and, uh, everything's fine.
- 30:28So everybody really.
- 30:30Understandable in this and it's really cool because sometimes you can just be
- 30:34in a really hard fight on track and not talk for like, I don't know, 10 minutes
- 30:40or something like this and everybody going to be silent with you watching your race.
- 30:45It's really cool.
- 30:47Right.
- 30:48I always expect it's like, okay, I'm, I'm struggling right now.
- 30:51I need to focus and catch up or find my markers again and just
- 30:56like get back into the zone.
- 30:57And I'm always like, okay, well, by the time I'm done being silent,
- 31:01doing my thing, I'm going to look over and it's going to be empty.
- 31:04And it's not like, they're not here just to talk to you.
- 31:08Like they're here to watch.
- 31:10How you're racing, the lines you're taking, they're here to learn
- 31:13from your mistakes, too, because even the aliens make mistakes.
- 31:17I know, um, one of the guys that he hasn't streamed much, but he just
- 31:22started streaming, um, I met him trying to get into my first ACC league, and I
- 31:30was like, I'm not really very good, but I would love to try this driver swap
- 31:35series thing that they've got going on.
- 31:37I And I found out you can do driver swaps, like, really real driver swaps
- 31:43on ACC, and I'm like, yeah, let's do it!
- 31:46And he's like, oh no, it's cool, just please don't try to go too fast, don't
- 31:51run into people, and stay smooth.
- 31:55If you can just stay smooth and focus, I don't care how things end
- 31:59up, I just want to see you improve.
- 32:02And that's been like, everybody's attitude that I've talked to so far.
- 32:06And I've gone from 10 seconds behind the pace on ACC to I'm a good mid pack to
- 32:14tail end of, well above that, tail end of the good drivers and mid pack driver now.
- 32:21And it's only been two months since I've been playing ACC.
- 32:24So Gran Turismo did teach me a lot.
- 32:27I'm pretty sure that I'm not gonna know Gran Turismo too much.
- 32:30Mm hmm Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Gran Turismo gave you a good base for sim
- 32:36racing and to drive in ACC and in racing in the future as well Um, it's really cool
- 32:43that you, you got this experience and, uh, right now you making good improvements.
- 32:50Yeah, and you know, I've, people laugh a lot when I say this, but I'm like, I've
- 32:54been doing this for a couple of years now.
- 32:57And there's been instances where I'm driving on a real road and
- 33:01it's wet and it's early morning.
- 33:06And I live near this highway that, it's like the most dangerous
- 33:10highway in the state where I live.
- 33:11Yeah.
- 33:12And I've seen literally an accident every other day for
- 33:18a year before on this highway.
- 33:20And one day I'm driving down the highway and I look up, I don't look up, I'm
- 33:26just like come around the corner and the next thing you know all I can see
- 33:29are these headlights that are about the same height as the roof of my car.
- 33:33And I didn't freak out, I wasn't scared, I was just like oh I need to go around him.
- 33:40And when I was done I was I was like, okay, so I didn't hit the
- 33:46guardrail on the right side.
- 33:49I didn't break my mirror on the semi truck.
- 33:51That was 100 percent in my lane coming around this corner.
- 33:56I can't attribute my calmness or my reactions to anything
- 34:00other than sim racing.
- 34:02That's like the reaction times and being so used to being like stressing yourself
- 34:08out over how you're driving or how you're going to take this corner or how you're
- 34:11going to handle your car in real life.
- 34:13You're doing a quarter of the speed half the time or less.
- 34:17And so when something dangerous does happen, there's no thinking involved.
- 34:22You can react and you know that it's safe to do this because your
- 34:26car's not even close to the limit.
- 34:27So why can't you just like whip it over real quick?
- 34:31Yeah, in my opinion, uh, people who driving on the road, they should
- 34:35jump into whatever, sim racing or maybe some, uh, like extreme driving
- 34:41to just, uh, teach this reactions.
- 34:43Yeah.
- 34:44As you said, and it's really helped me.
- 34:46It's like, it saved me, um, you know, a couple of times on the
- 34:49road when I was driving the car.
- 34:51Um, and that's a good thing, which you notice, uh, that sim racing help you
- 34:56in the driving in real life as well.
- 35:00Yeah, just knowing the feel of the car, it's like
- 35:06the first time I ever got understeer in a car that I was driving in real life.
- 35:10I had never like driven with a simulator, like the wheel and everything.
- 35:15And even if I had, it would have been what, 40 years ago before they had such
- 35:21a thing as force feedback or pedals.
- 35:24It like actually had real, you know, Load cell field to them or anything like that.
- 35:29And when my car started understeering, it was like pure panic moment.
- 35:33And it's like, okay, what do I do?
- 35:36Oh, hit the brakes.
- 35:37Oh, that's not helping let off the brakes.
- 35:38Some I'll try the gas.
- 35:40Um, let's try steering less.
- 35:42No, that's not going to help.
- 35:43And you just don't know what to do when you get into that situation.
- 35:47And so you've like really been there.
- 35:49And what, when you practice it every day, something happens and there's no question.
- 35:55There's no thought.
- 35:56There's, oh, this is how I handle that situation.
- 36:00Yeah, my opinion.
- 36:00So yeah, why don't they, why don't they make simulators, like, part of courses for
- 36:05driving, getting your driver's license?
- 36:08Yeah, exactly.
- 36:09I think that should be a part of it, uh, because you're getting really good
- 36:14skills, uh, which can save your car, your life on the road, and it's, it's great.
- 36:20And yeah.
- 36:20Thank you.
- 36:21In my opinion, a lot of accidents which happening on the roads, uh, that just
- 36:26because, you know, people panic and they don't know what to do in this situation.
- 36:31And that's it.
- 36:31As you said, like, uh, you was panic a little bit when you had
- 36:36understeer with your car in real life.
- 36:37Yeah.
- 36:38And, uh, this is exactly what happening with people and no wonder because
- 36:42they, uh, absolutely got no, uh, experience in such a sort of situations.
- 36:49Right, so you don't know what to do, the first thing you're going
- 36:52to do is panic and wreck your car.
- 36:53Yeah.
- 36:54Hahaha.
- 36:57So the only real, real life wreck that I've ever been in that,
- 37:02uh, we're not going to count the one that was half on purpose.
- 37:07I was, I was on that dangerous highway that I was telling you
- 37:10about, this other one, right?
- 37:11Same highway, and they were doing road work on there, and I pulled up
- 37:16behind this semi, it's a flagger.
- 37:19And I'm like, I hate this highway, I'm going to give myself one.
- 37:23A semi length between me and the truck.
- 37:26Someone's gonna come by and hit me, I just know it.
- 37:29And three days in a row I'm stopping at this flagger.
- 37:32And finally, the third day, I stop, I hit the flashers, I check the mirror.
- 37:37Okay, there's somebody stopped behind me, I'm safe now.
- 37:41See what time it is, click the phone.
- 37:43As soon as I started reaching towards my phone, I hear this.
- 37:46And I was like, okay, number one, he was speeding number
- 37:49two, we're all going to get hit.
- 37:53So I was like, all right, I need to be able to control my car.
- 37:57So I don't want to have the brakes on too tight.
- 38:00So I put the car in gear.
- 38:02I let off three quarters of my brakes so that they were just
- 38:05barely holding me in place.
- 38:07And he, he dodged the car behind me.
- 38:10This is awesome because he's in this giant Toyota Tundra, right?
- 38:14You got this much space and his truck is this big He bounces off the guardrail
- 38:21completely misses the car behind me Smashes in the tail of my car and if I had
- 38:27reacted any differently I probably would have ended up in the oncoming traffic.
- 38:31That was right flying by like nothing's happening But instead I was able
- 38:36to control my car and it was like, okay Kept it inside my lane and I
- 38:40didn't hit the truck because I gave myself space So More things that I'm
- 38:45learning, I'm applying things that I've learned to simracing to situations you
- 38:49don't even experience in simracing.
- 38:52Because if you hold your brakes too much, how much control
- 38:54do you have over your car?
- 38:57And if you're spending all of your, um, traction braking, you can't turn.
- 39:03And so, the second I knew something was wrong, Those are the thoughts that went
- 39:07through my mind and it was just like, okay, this is how I'm not gonna die
- 39:15Returning back to some racing a little bit Um, I want to ask you how
- 39:20do you prepare for your races and what races do you do usually in acc?
- 39:25Maybe that's some kind of leak which you can suggest to people
- 39:28who's starring in acc or like that.
- 39:31Just a multiplayer races As far as lazy concerned, um Uh, Dream Team
- 39:39Racing has some great GT7 leagues, an awesome guy, he, the people who
- 39:46started it, one of them is German, one of them is, uh, uh, uh, uh, Irish.
- 39:51Some of my best friends now, they run usually one season a year, and depending
- 39:56on the number of int the amount of interest they get, they'll have, uh,
- 40:01three lobbies going sometimes, four.
- 40:05And so we've got skill levels from I just got this game and I'm learning how
- 40:09to drive on it to I'm, not even gonna bother trying to race this person because
- 40:14they're so freaking fast They lapped me in three laps and like this is just I
- 40:19will learn from them I will watch them, but i'm not gonna compete with them.
- 40:24Um, so dream team racing is really cool.
- 40:26Uh Scaly punk charity racing is also really cool because we
- 40:31do the same thing We, uh, split up the lobbies by skill level.
- 40:37And it's usually 40 minute races.
- 40:39It's pretty much the go to on GT seven.
- 40:41Um, since I started ACC.
- 40:44My first series that I started, I, it was supposed to be like a two
- 40:50hour, two or three hour driver swap thing where it's like, Oh, I'm going
- 40:54to drive for an hour out of this.
- 40:56And it turns out that that one got canceled because
- 40:59there wasn't enough interest.
- 41:01And then I saw they had another one and it costs a little bit of money to join, but
- 41:05once you pay money, they can't cancel it.
- 41:07So I started a four and a half hour driver swap series.
- 41:10And so I'm doing that with Phil Hooligan.
- 41:13And I've got my friend Neil DeCiel, Neil Wright.
- 41:18Um, he's part of Infinity Racing League, IRL.
- 41:22Uh, they've got a Discord server also.
- 41:25And they are partnered up with ACC Consoles.
- 41:29Um, I, I'm sure if, if you've ever played ACC and you look up the online lobby
- 41:35list, ACC Consoles is like all over it.
- 41:38They've got tons of lobbies on there.
- 41:40They do a time trial.
- 41:41Where they set up the track for the month and anybody can go and join on it.
- 41:47There's no password and you can see how you stack up against
- 41:51however many people enter it.
- 41:53I was, I think I was 43rd out of 115 the last time.
- 41:59Last one I was able to take time and do so that's not bad.
- 42:01I'm like I said, I'm mid to Little bit better than that base um, so
- 42:09those are really good leagues and then There's another one coming up.
- 42:13It's going to be an imsa foreign It's imsa endurance racing and it's going to be a
- 42:20mixed class that's run by acc consoles as well And so i've got I want to have an all
- 42:28female team for this one So I asked Yvonne to join me on that one And anybody else
- 42:34who is interested, we can take, I think we can have up to three or four drivers.
- 42:38So any other ladies out there want to get in on this, let me know.
- 42:43Yeah, so you can message Tasha.
- 42:46Oh right, it is on PS5 though, it's not, it's not PC, unfortunately.
- 42:52But yeah, no, I'm basically, I want to get as good as I can, so
- 42:57I drive everything that I can.
- 43:00I'm not very, I wasn't very good at ACC when I first started it.
- 43:03But I'm not going to be like, Oh, I'm not going to join this series because I suck.
- 43:08I'm going to be like, I'm going to go join this series and see how well I do
- 43:11and see how much I can learn from them.
- 43:13I didn't progress from.
- 43:16A pleb to where I'm at now, a better pleb by Sitting on the sidelines
- 43:23and not participating jump in Everybody is going to help you out.
- 43:28If you have questions ask in a discord server ask on the racing server And
- 43:34guaranteed you're going to make friends and someone who is alien pace is going
- 43:38to be like here Let me help you i'll teach you a couple of things about
- 43:41this and you'll be faster And then the other part of it is giving up.
- 43:48I'm never going to give up, right?
- 43:50Every now and then I get into this position where I start feeling
- 43:55content being like, I'm not going to improve any more than this.
- 43:57This is just going to be my pace.
- 44:00And that's usually about the time that I gain a second on my laps.
- 44:04It's like, okay, now that I'm content, all of a sudden, poof, I'm faster.
- 44:07I'm like, whoa.
- 44:09Okay.
- 44:09So maybe we need to relax while we're doing this too.
- 44:11This isn't about stressing yourself out and gripping as tight as you can.
- 44:16This is about.
- 44:18You want to be smooth and learn from everybody.
- 44:22That's what we do.
- 44:25Yeah, I'm absolutely agree with you.
- 44:28Uh, so good thing, which you said that you, when you relax, you're like boom
- 44:32gaining one second and it's, it's really working because you just stop to push
- 44:37yourself too hard and stop to, um, Like focus too hard on things which you're
- 44:42doing with driving and you just relax and let your brain to do all things on
- 44:48track and it's, it's really working.
- 44:50Um, do you like endurance racing more compared to sprint racing?
- 44:55And if yes, what do you like the most about endurance racing or
- 45:00sprint racing if you prefer this one?
- 45:03Favorite?
- 45:04Yeah, I really do love the endurance racing, especially the driver swap
- 45:08endurance racing, because you're working together with someone else.
- 45:13So you're not going to set the car up for you.
- 45:17They're not going to set the car up for them.
- 45:19You have to work together and find a setup for the car because you can't swap it,
- 45:23swap the setup when you get to the pits.
- 45:25Um, the pit stops themselves and trying to communicate with the other driver,
- 45:31set up tire pressures for the swap and stuff like that makes it more interesting.
- 45:36Um, just being there, having a teammate in your ear.
- 45:39Um, they're, they can watch you the whole time on ACC, especially in like,
- 45:44if there's something you're doing every lap that you're not catching,
- 45:47they can give you advice on it.
- 45:50You know, I really love the AI on ACC where it tells you, it's like, Oh, car
- 45:55on the right, Oh, clear on the right.
- 45:58Don't ever trust that thing.
- 45:59Cause half the time, all I did was move over two inches to
- 46:02the right and it's still there.
- 46:03So you still gotta be careful, but when you have somebody with you, they can
- 46:08spot those cars or, or you don't have to watch your mirror because they can
- 46:11tell you someone's coming up behind you.
- 46:12You don't have to watch the time so much in the bottom corner, trying
- 46:16to see what the deltas are because.
- 46:18You've got someone to do that for you.
- 46:20You can focus and drive.
- 46:23And then my other favorite thing about the endurance races is they last longer.
- 46:27I don't want to jump in my rig and compete for 40 minutes.
- 46:31I want to like push myself.
- 46:33I want to be going, I want to be driving.
- 46:34I want to drive for an hour, two hours, three hours, four hours.
- 46:38If I had my way, I would do it for a job and I would probably drive four or
- 46:41six hours a day, but I'm not there yet.
- 46:49Do you like the part of endurance racing where you're counting fuel and
- 46:53do some management with the schedule?
- 46:55Are you doing this by yourself or are you more?
- 46:58Uh, like dedicate this to your teammates.
- 47:02I'm just starting in it.
- 47:04Like I've only done,
- 47:08I can't remember if we've done one or two.
- 47:09I think we've only gotten one done so far.
- 47:12Like I said, I've only been doing this for two months and the
- 47:14endurance races run once a month.
- 47:16So the next one is coming up this Saturday.
- 47:18It'll be streamed on my YouTube and it's a spa and I've got decent times there.
- 47:23So this should be a good one to watch, but Phil and I are working together on a setup
- 47:29and actually I've got Neil Wright coming.
- 47:31To drive this one with me another awesome guy but we work together to
- 47:36find a setup that we can all drive and then When it comes to fuel calculation,
- 47:41it's you gotta I I enjoy doing it.
- 47:44I'm a math person like I went up to uh math 350 or something like
- 47:51that when I was in college and the only reason I stopped doing it is
- 47:54because My baby was born too early.
- 47:57And so I had to drop a class lost financial aid and No more school for
- 48:02me But, I love math, I love physics, I love thinking, so now I'll look at, um,
- 48:09liters per lap, and how much time is left, and what my lap times are, and do
- 48:14the math in my head as quickly as I can.
- 48:16Usually, right now, I'm doing it all on the fly.
- 48:20I'm hoping that, like, not this coming race, but the race after and
- 48:23the one after that, I've got a better grasp on how it works in ACC, and
- 48:28I can actually plan driver stints.
- 48:31Thanks.
- 48:31And okay, this is, we're starting with 70 percent fuel, 70 liters, fuel, whatever.
- 48:37And then we're, this is how much we're going to fuel each time we come in.
- 48:40And I like to strategize.
- 48:42It's a lot of fun.
- 48:43I don't like to do it by myself because I'm not racing alone.
- 48:47When you've got a team of people racing, everybody needs to have input, right?
- 48:52It's like anything else.
- 48:54But no, I really, that's another one of the things that I really love
- 48:58about endurance racing is like all the strategies and, um, balancing
- 49:02ideas off with somebody else, practicing with them and just fine
- 49:05tuning how you're driving together.
- 49:09Sprint races are fun, um, as far as preparing goes.
- 49:14Um, I used to practice two hours a day every day before the race,
- 49:22trying to get ready for that race.
- 49:25And I went through about a month where I didn't have time to practice at all.
- 49:32And I did better.
- 49:35I was like, from now on, my practice is going to be doing
- 49:38whatever I want, wherever I want.
- 49:41And then on the day of the race, For the sprint race, I'm just going to
- 49:45jump in, do five laps and wing it.
- 49:49And it's worked for me.
- 49:50I'm, I'm doing better on GT seven, doing it that way, but I'm also
- 49:54putting in more time on ACC.
- 49:56I think the better you do on ACC, the less you need to try on GT seven.
- 50:01Right.
- 50:03And so I'm getting a lot better at that one.
- 50:05Um, ACC preparation.
- 50:08I work at that.
- 50:11I've got this, uh, I started a one hour series with TJC Gaming, also
- 50:18another great guy, super inclusive.
- 50:20Um, you can join his races while he's streaming.
- 50:23It's a lot of fun, but I started joining his one hour races and it's like, I'll,
- 50:29you know, I'll practice for like two hours throughout the week, come up with
- 50:33some kind of a setup and then not worry about it until the day of the race.
- 50:38And then the four and a half hour races, I'm like fine tuning a setup
- 50:42and working with my team probably once a week ish for a month until it
- 50:48comes up and it's time for the race.
- 50:49And it's like, okay, Within three days before the race I do about an hour drive
- 50:54just so I can see what the tires are going to do See what the temperatures are going
- 50:58to do try um different weather settings because It's not like gt7 where they tell
- 51:05you the weather settings Usually these guys are like what are the real what's
- 51:08the real world weather and you don't even know till The day of half of the time.
- 51:13I mean you can get a guess I looked up the weather last time and it
- 51:16was like, oh sunny Yeah Nah, it was cloudy and nearly raining, so
- 51:20that's what our lobby looked like.
- 51:23So, um, ACC I put in a little bit more preparation.
- 51:27Gran Turismo 7 now, like I said, it's, I just don't worry about it anymore.
- 51:31It's for fun, so I don't prepare at all.
- 51:34I jump in the day of and it's like, okay, this is how we're doing it.
- 51:40Yeah, sometimes it's really good to have just jump into the race, have
- 51:44fun and not think about anything about practice or, uh, something like this.
- 51:50I can suggest you a little thing about practice, it's working for me.
- 51:54Uh, I don't know, you can try it for yourself as well.
- 51:57Um, so usually I'm practicing, uh, like I know one hour, two hours,
- 52:02uh, and, uh, I'm going to have like another one day before the race.
- 52:07So I'm not doing the practice, um, on that day.
- 52:11And I know during the night, my brain, like, uh, collects all the info.
- 52:15And, uh, the next day when I'm doing, uh, like short practice,
- 52:19maybe 40 minutes or something like this, I'm just getting faster.
- 52:22And it's really cool.
- 52:24Um, trying to not do.
- 52:27Not to do a lot of practice during the race day as I'm, you
- 52:30know, feeling tired, especially when we're doing endurance races.
- 52:34Uh, you really need this energy and, um, you need a lot of energy for your
- 52:39scenes because sometimes you do, um, in a racing, we're doing double scenes.
- 52:44Uh, so you like one hour plus driving in the car, two hours sometimes.
- 52:48Uh, so yeah, you can try, uh, like, do.
- 52:52Uh, practice, then relax, and then take, like, little practice to just, uh, settle
- 52:57down things, uh, in your, in your mind, and then jump to the race next day.
- 53:02Something like this.
- 53:04Absolutely.
- 53:04Actually, that, uh, it's funny that you say that, because, um, the ACC console
- 53:08server, uh, I think it was, um, Kyalami that they had, the time trial going on?
- 53:15And that was also going to be the first endurance race that I was doing.
- 53:20And I'm still brand new with the game.
- 53:23I hadn't really practiced anything else.
- 53:25So one night I was like, I'm going to get better in this time trial.
- 53:29I'm going to get my name into the top 50.
- 53:31Right.
- 53:32And so I spent that night doing laps and laps and laps and laps.
- 53:37And, uh, it's like, okay, I've got a good feel for the flow of it and
- 53:42how I'm gonna go, and this is great.
- 53:45Went to bed, and I, like, my eyes shot open at about 6.
- 53:4930 in the morning, and I had this dream that I had gotten, whatever
- 53:53time, two seconds faster than what I was doing the night before.
- 53:57And I was like, let's
- 54:01go get this a shot.
- 54:03Get out of bed at 6 30 in the morning, come turn the rig on.
- 54:05I jumped on and like within two laps, I had, I nailed that two seconds faster lap.
- 54:13And it was just a processing of, okay, this corner complex I'm coming into.
- 54:18It's, um, I need to stop worrying about hitting the apex on the way through.
- 54:23I need to stay wide there so that it's easier to hit the next left hand corner.
- 54:28And it came to me in a dream.
- 54:32As ridiculous as it is.
- 54:33Yes, I was dreaming and I figured out how to drive faster in my sleep.
- 54:38That's amazing.
- 54:39And you know, it's a lot better to just, when you're stuck on the, on
- 54:44your lap time, uh, you just go relaxed and then like everything, everything
- 54:49will come to you in the morning and you'll do like two seconds faster, one
- 54:53second faster, or something like this.
- 54:56It's working all the time.
- 54:57And the other thing, one of the other things that I use is, so do 300 laps at
- 55:04Kyalami trying to get your time right.
- 55:06And all you're doing is frustrating yourself because it's not, all
- 55:10you're doing is overdriving the car.
- 55:11You're not learning anything.
- 55:13You're not doing any better.
- 55:15What's a track that you are good at?
- 55:17Go play somewhere else for a little while.
- 55:19Like, I was like, Oh, I haven't tried the Nürburgring on, or,
- 55:23uh, the Nordschleife on ACC yet.
- 55:26Let's go see what that one's like.
- 55:28Oh, it is not the same as it is on GT7, but I still really love it.
- 55:34And so I go play on the Nordschleife for a little while
- 55:37and go back to the other track.
- 55:38And it's Oh, oh, this corner looks completely different now.
- 55:43I'm like, all right, I can break another four meters later here.
- 55:47Let's do this.
- 55:50Yeah.
- 55:51Sometimes yeah.
- 55:51Clear the brain.
- 55:52It's a, it's like when you're out tasting wine or tequila in my case, you taste
- 55:58one, you have a little cleanser and then you taste the other one, right?
- 56:04Switch it up a little bit.
- 56:05It helps you learn.
- 56:06Yeah, sometimes you just need some fresh air to get in and then you just
- 56:10jump with a, um, better energy to the track and you're like, Oh, yes, I
- 56:15can do this corner a lot better now.
- 56:17And yeah, it's working all the time as well.
- 56:21Yeah, sometimes the good break is what it takes.
- 56:23Um, the whole not practicing until the day of, like I said, it came
- 56:28about from a month where I just didn't have time to practice.
- 56:32And both of the races that came up for that series, it was like,
- 56:35Man, I don't care if I lose.
- 56:37I got on, I did like three laps for practice and then qualification started.
- 56:41And I was like, yeah, let's see how it goes.
- 56:43And you know, they didn't practice at all.
- 56:46So I qualified mid pack and like, uh, yep, it's all right.
- 56:50And just don't hit anybody and try and have clean race and do your best.
- 56:54Who cares what happens?
- 56:56And the next thing, you know, you're.
- 56:58second place or leading the race and it's like, um, wow, I should relax more often.
- 57:08Some good advices for people who are jumping into sim
- 57:12racing for the first time.
- 57:14That's nice.
- 57:15Thank you.
- 57:16Um, and the other and along with that is like, if you're just getting into
- 57:22sim racing, don't get on and start trying to go as fast as you can.
- 57:29There's no reason to you're not, all you're going to do is.
- 57:32Overdrive your car and frustrate yourself.
- 57:34What you want to do is go out and drive it like you're learning a new neighborhood.
- 57:40Go around it a few times at a safe speed where you know you can make
- 57:44the corners and start getting a flow for how you want to drive it.
- 57:48And as you're doing this, you're going to slowly speed up and you're going
- 57:52to start remembering where you're at.
- 57:54Nordschleife took me six months to stop botching three of the corners because
- 58:00I I was like, Oh, I'm at this corner.
- 58:03Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope.
- 58:04That corner isn't flat on the track, but you just want to get the lay of it.
- 58:10And as you're doing this, and as you're slowly learning the track,
- 58:15you're going to start going faster and faster, and you're not going to
- 58:17be pushing or overdriving your car, it's just your comfort level is going
- 58:21to grow and you're going to be smooth.
- 58:24And you're going to be faster by starting out going slower.
- 58:27That's one piece of advice that everybody tells you.
- 58:31You never want to believe it, but slow is faster.
- 58:38Slow in, fast out, hit your apex, hit your markers, and relax.
- 58:43Exactly, this is what you have to do.
- 58:47Also a good thing to just look at replay and see how wide you go in if you're
- 58:52using the whole track and if you got opportunity to watch on the telemetry
- 58:57and analyze with Someone who's faster.
- 59:00Maybe you got to mate or someone like this that's also a really good
- 59:04thing to do because you can compare with someone and you see where
- 59:08you Um, maybe doing differently.
- 59:11Uh, some corners you might do better than your teammate, for example.
- 59:15Uh, some corners you can, um, learn from your teammate.
- 59:18And it's, uh, it's a great thing as well about simracing
- 59:22that we got open telemetry.
- 59:25And we got a lot of opportunities to watch other people replays.
- 59:29Uh, this is not what happened in real life in many series, uh, unfortunately.
- 59:34But we, we just have to use these, uh, tools which we got in sim racing.
- 59:40Absolutely.
- 59:40That.
- 59:41One of the things I love about sim racing is just the accessibility
- 59:44to all of the information.
- 59:47Um, you're struggling on a track and you're, you've got a league
- 59:52race coming up and you just don't know why you can't get any faster.
- 59:56Pull up YouTube.
- 59:57Find somebody who's faster.
- 1:00:00There's a lot of good youtubers out there that you can watch their lap times.
- 1:00:04You can Um figure out their breaking points.
- 1:00:07You can figure out what gear they're in for each corner Um,
- 1:00:10that's a big recommendation.
- 1:00:12I know automatic is easier to Work when you first start sim racing just figure
- 1:00:21out a way to get a manual in there.
- 1:00:24Um, when I was on controller, I used like X and square for shifting
- 1:00:28and the triggers were gas and brake and steering was the left stick.
- 1:00:33Uh, now that I got the wheel, of course I got the paddle
- 1:00:36shifters on it, so that's nice.
- 1:00:38But the automatic, you just don't have the options for gear changes in corners.
- 1:00:43Sometimes it'll have you on third gear when really you need second
- 1:00:46to get the rotation for the car.
- 1:00:48But that's another thing you can learn is, uh, what gear
- 1:00:52they're using through corners.
- 1:00:53What, What are you doing to get rotation from the car and what are
- 1:00:58you doing to stop the rotation and get on the power on the way out?
- 1:01:02And sometimes you want a lower gear to get into the corner and you want
- 1:01:08to shift up when you hit the apex so you can get on the power right
- 1:01:10away and it doesn't spin you out.
- 1:01:12It gives you a little bit of understeer and pushes you out to the curb.
- 1:01:18See, that's why I love simracing, there's so much to talk about.
- 1:01:20Yeah.
- 1:01:21There's so much nuance in it.
- 1:01:23That's true.
- 1:01:24Um, speaking of We can pick it apart all day long.
- 1:01:28Yeah, speaking of We can talk about seating position.
- 1:01:31Sorry.
- 1:01:34No, I'm I was half kidding, but it's like, you want to talk about seating
- 1:01:37position, I you want to be able to like, set your wrist on fully extended out,
- 1:01:42and then when you grab your wheel, you want your arms to be about 90 degrees.
- 1:01:45Please?
- 1:01:46You don't want to be stretched out like this trying to drive, and
- 1:01:48you don't want to be all like this where you don't have any movement.
- 1:01:52Every little thing about this means something.
- 1:01:55Yeah, especially driving position is a really good thing.
- 1:01:59You know, I was struggling with the trail braking.
- 1:02:02I was losing a little bit, like, a little bit everywhere to the
- 1:02:06fastest drivers in the racing.
- 1:02:08And the one thing which I did, I just, um, Did my, uh, move my seat
- 1:02:14backwards by one click and I fixed completely this trail breaking and you
- 1:02:19know I'm going faster right now and that's exactly crazy about sim racing
- 1:02:24like every little things accounting to your better, better lap times on
- 1:02:30track So I agree with you in this.
- 1:02:34It's like every stupid little thing affects it like okay, so GT7 I when
- 1:02:40I was driving I was driving bumper cam because it just makes the most
- 1:02:44sense really for GT7 Um the way that I have everything set up.
- 1:02:49I basically have the whole dashboard So my steering wheel is here
- 1:02:53and then I use the This is where the homemade rig comes in again.
- 1:02:57So I have an actual rig, but I took a different piece of that same countertop
- 1:03:04and I attached it to my monitor brackets and then I attached it to the wheel mount
- 1:03:09so that I could adjust my wheel farther back to get my legs farther away from the
- 1:03:13pedals and be able to adjust my seat more.
- 1:03:16And so it's just another aspect of adjustability there.
- 1:03:19It's um, I had this issue though getting into ACC I really
- 1:03:25wanted to drive cockpit view.
- 1:03:26I always have it makes more sense.
- 1:03:29It's immersion, right?
- 1:03:30Like you have more reference points in my car I know that if the right hand
- 1:03:37side of my windshield wiper the little knobby Is touching the white line on
- 1:03:41the right hand side that my tires are on the white line on the right side I
- 1:03:45know exactly where my car is on gg7.
- 1:03:48It's like oh it's about right here on the screen And as long as I have
- 1:03:52this thing mapped up there that spot is where the edge of it is but when
- 1:03:56you cockpit view it's like It's always there you have all of your reference
- 1:04:02marks for the car You can figure out exactly where everything is on it.
- 1:04:06So With the new seat i'm raised up a little bit more and i've got a 55 inch
- 1:04:12screen that like it goes up to Way too tall so I was I wasn't able to get
- 1:04:18into Any other view besides bumper cam on acc even because I would have been
- 1:04:22looking like this while I was trying to drive And you don't want that.
- 1:04:26You want to be looking straight ahead.
- 1:04:29Everything matters in sim racing, racing, everything matters.
- 1:04:33So now that I've got a comfortable seat that I feel like is hugging me, I love it,
- 1:04:39I'm raised up just a little bit higher.
- 1:04:41I was able to get my settings and now I'm racing in cockpit view.
- 1:04:46And you know how your lap times always suffer when you first
- 1:04:49switch views, because you're not used to the braking markers.
- 1:04:53Took me one lap to beat my previous time.
- 1:04:56Wow.
- 1:04:59I did one lap and I was like, okay, I see where everything is.
- 1:05:02I did another lap and I was like, all right, two seconds.
- 1:05:04I got this.
- 1:05:07Yeah, that's always two seconds with me too.
- 1:05:10I don't beat it by a half second, I beat it by two seconds.
- 1:05:13That's what a right driving position is about.
- 1:05:17So you just get in a comfortable position, you're like, Wow, I can be faster, you
- 1:05:22know, because you, uh, actually just, You got more confidence in your break
- 1:05:28in, you got more confidence when you're going on throttle back, and overall
- 1:05:33you're just feeling comfortable in Eureka, and it's, it's really important.
- 1:05:39Yeah, one of the next things I gotta, so, this is a huge mess of an organizational
- 1:05:47thing right here, right now.
- 1:05:50But one of the next things I gotta do is figure out what to do with this.
- 1:05:54I mean, when I'm driving, it's
- 1:06:01But if I have it over here, then nobody can hear me.
- 1:06:04If I have it over here, it's my arms hitting it.
- 1:06:07So, you know,
- 1:06:10it's a work in progress.
- 1:06:11Now, you gotta see this, though.
- 1:06:12And it's okay if you laugh.
- 1:06:14I laugh all the time.
- 1:06:19So that's the desktop that I use.
- 1:06:21To extend everything.
- 1:06:25Oh, that's nice.
- 1:06:26This is about my view of the screen when I'm driving.
- 1:06:30It's like craning your head way up to see that.
- 1:06:32So this is my eye level.
- 1:06:36And this is my streaming setup over here.
- 1:06:39It's a mess of a jumble of wires because I have to use way too many devices
- 1:06:44tethered together to make everything work.
- 1:06:46So my 10 year old laptop, I use the, uh, Tablet down here for voice chat.
- 1:06:54Mm hmm on this side I was donated a couple of pieces of the 80 20 80
- 1:07:0140 rig whatever With the keyboard mount, but they don't mount on this.
- 1:07:06So I had to
- 1:07:09See all the weirdness I got going on down here.
- 1:07:11I found a way to attach weirdness To my tube whatever rig because you know,
- 1:07:19I just you can do anything you want.
- 1:07:22All you need is To want it start working on it.
- 1:07:29There's always a solution.
- 1:07:30I have a problem.
- 1:07:31I will find a solution This stupid thing is in my way Don't worry about it.
- 1:07:35Give me a couple of weeks.
- 1:07:36It's gonna be mounted probably over on my keyboard stand.
- 1:07:41. Yeah.
- 1:07:42That, that's, uh, that'd be nice if it could sit somewhere, you know, or
- 1:07:46it was like in front of me, but yeah, no, that ain't gonna work either.
- 1:07:52No.
- 1:07:52While we talking, my, my mouse just stopped to work.
- 1:07:57, I think I can figure it out.
- 1:07:58Yeah.
- 1:07:59Just, uh, not responding.
- 1:08:01I know why . Oh, I love it when that happens.
- 1:08:06Yeah.
- 1:08:06You know, uh, it's really funny when you.
- 1:08:09You got everything ready, like, you check everything and you're starting stream.
- 1:08:13And here's something going wrong all the time.
- 1:08:17I used to prepare everything for my stream the night before, right when
- 1:08:23I was getting ready to go to bed.
- 1:08:24Okay, sound check, mic check, screen check, stream, stream labs check.
- 1:08:30Everything just set up perfectly.
- 1:08:33And then the next day I would go to stream and none of it would be working.
- 1:08:37Okay.
- 1:08:38So, I've given up on getting things set up the day before, now
- 1:08:42I'm just like, okay, whatever.
- 1:08:44Um, I can wing this in ten minutes, I got it.
- 1:08:47Heh heh heh.
- 1:08:52Yeah, um, I just, I'm so curious, uh, you got this beautiful black, uh,
- 1:08:56Jackson guitar on your background, uh, so can you tell me a little bit about
- 1:09:01it and, uh, you're playing some music and what kind of music do you play?
- 1:09:07I have been a metalhead since the day I was born.
- 1:09:12Um, at, at first you, it wasn't the same kind of metal because it was the 80s
- 1:09:18and you know, it just wasn't the same.
- 1:09:19Um, But I always wanted to learn how to play guitar.
- 1:09:23I learned about I don't know when I was 12 years old I think I started actually
- 1:09:27learning how to play and Been playing on and off ever since i'm not great But my
- 1:09:35kid decided he wanted to learn how to play bass guitar And what better to motivate
- 1:09:40him than sitting and jamming with him?
- 1:09:43So I went Borrowed a guitar the air quotes aren't because I stole it.
- 1:09:47It's because my You This person, uh, decided that he was going to loan it to
- 1:09:53me, but he didn't care how long I have it.
- 1:09:55So basically he gave me this guitar.
- 1:09:58It's a Jackson with the Floyd Rose.
- 1:10:02And when I looked it up and figured out how much this thing costs,
- 1:10:07it's between seven and 1, 200.
- 1:10:11So 900 bucks worth is just about right, but pick around on it a little bit.
- 1:10:18And what I'm thinking about doing is.
- 1:10:20I don't want copyright strikes.
- 1:10:22I can't find a way to get good music for intro videos and stuff like that
- 1:10:27without paying let's see, I want it in this moment because number one, she's
- 1:10:33a goddess number two, she's amazing, she has an amazing voice and I love
- 1:10:37her music and the uh, What's it called?
- 1:10:41Uh, the messages behind what she's singing.
- 1:10:43It's like super strong woman powerful Just amazing.
- 1:10:47So listen to in this moment if you like metal and i'm struggling to
- 1:10:53find that So my next going to be an audio input so that I can go from
- 1:10:59guitar direct into my computer, record some riffs along with a video.
- 1:11:04And now I can make my own intro video with metal sounds that aren't copyright.
- 1:11:09And I don't have to search for years and years and years to find something that is.
- 1:11:17That's, that's great.
- 1:11:18Uh, really, uh, cool to see.
- 1:11:21I actually noticed that people who's in sim racing, they, uh, also
- 1:11:26in some other hobbies, like maybe in flight simulators, in music.
- 1:11:31Um, yeah.
- 1:11:32And it's really cool to know you from different side.
- 1:11:38Um, there's lots of different things I'm interested in, but mostly I
- 1:11:43just want to sim race and find my way into the real racing world.
- 1:11:47Um, I recently.
- 1:11:49Recently, a year ago, I got injured.
- 1:11:52I've been in construction my whole life.
- 1:11:55So you want to know how to build something?
- 1:11:57You need something built.
- 1:11:58I can basically do anything.
- 1:12:00I work with, um, CAD software.
- 1:12:03I, I can engineer a house.
- 1:12:05I can engineer a deck.
- 1:12:06I've built everything from running heavy equipment all the way through finishing
- 1:12:12touches on a house when the homeowner was moving in, I can do it all, but
- 1:12:18I want to be the best at everything.
- 1:12:20And I want to be.
- 1:12:21the fastest at everything and I want to just be amazing at everything.
- 1:12:27So I worked myself to death.
- 1:12:29I now have a back injury.
- 1:12:30I walk with a cane and my doctor's telling me that they want me
- 1:12:34to start walking with a walker.
- 1:12:36So that is gone.
- 1:12:38No more construction for me.
- 1:12:40And I'm currently in trying to change careers.
- 1:12:43I'm trying to change careers.
- 1:12:46transitional period.
- 1:12:47So, um, finding a way to get into something to do with sim racing, doing
- 1:12:54commentary, uh, not really promotions for somebody because I'm not so
- 1:13:02great with the artwork kind of thing, but working behind the scenes for
- 1:13:07something to grow women in sim racing.
- 1:13:10Um, people with different, uh, uh, differently abled people getting into sim
- 1:13:18racing, because I just have this passion.
- 1:13:21If somebody wants to do something, they should be able to.
- 1:13:24So I'm looking at all these different things that I can try and start
- 1:13:27doing as a career change and find a way to make money off of it.
- 1:13:32But um, I forgot why I started saying that.
- 1:13:38What was that?
- 1:13:38What were we talking about right before that?
- 1:13:41Oh, we were talking about uh, the um about your guitar music and
- 1:13:48then you uh, yeah Yeah interest.
- 1:13:51Yeah So yeah, i've got all these interests and Nowhere to put them now.
- 1:13:58So I'm spending a lot of time trying to find my, like scoosh my way
- 1:14:04into a new career somehow, um, with something that I love and probably
- 1:14:10going to be spending a lot more time.
- 1:14:13Luckily, my mother in law lives in Portland and I know most people
- 1:14:16wouldn't say, Oh, I'll go visit.
- 1:14:18But I'm like, number one, she's not that bad.
- 1:14:21Number two.
- 1:14:23She lives in the same place as Portland International Raceway, which, if I spend
- 1:14:27enough time there, you know, I might be able to find my way onto a team, you know?
- 1:14:32Even if it's not racing, I could sit behind a TV screen and relay information.
- 1:14:39I'm really good at talking.
- 1:14:42Yeah, we can see this.
- 1:14:43You're awesome in this.
- 1:14:47I'm trying to tell, is that an insult or a compliment?
- 1:14:54All right, and before we wrap up, the last question for you will be,
- 1:14:59do you have any big plans for your YouTube channel and for streaming?
- 1:15:02Are you planning maybe to expand and stream on Twitch as
- 1:15:06well alongside with YouTube?
- 1:15:09Um, my goal right now is to get monetized to the point where I can
- 1:15:13afford To not have to put money into things like dual streaming Um, if my
- 1:15:19streaming was paying for it paying for things like a dual stream Through
- 1:15:24stream labs, then I would already be going on to twitch So i'm working
- 1:15:29towards it paying for itself to grow.
- 1:15:33It hasn't happened yet, but it will um besides that most of my streams right
- 1:15:39now are either comms for other people racing or You know Me racing in a league.
