• 2:25
Speaker 2: I'm doing fun well. Welcome, thanks for having me. Happy
• 2:28
Speaker 2: twenty twenty six. Are you a give me the idea
• 2:31
Speaker 2: you're not a New Year's resolution kind of guy. No, No,
• 2:34
Speaker 2: not at all. I mean it's waste of time. Really.
• 2:36
Speaker 2: Most people will tell you.
• 2:37
  Speaker 4: I forgot it.
• 2:39
Speaker 2: Well, you were on the show with well, I guess
• 2:41
Speaker 2: it was twenty twenty five when you're run because you
• 2:43
Speaker 2: are on with this last Monday, so it was till
• 2:44
Speaker 2: twenty twenty five. Then do you stay up and watch
• 2:47
Speaker 2: the ons the ball drop in New York City?
• 2:50
  Speaker 4: What do? What?
• 2:51
Speaker 2: Did you stay and watch the ball drop in New
• 2:53
  Speaker 2: York City?
• 2:54
Speaker 4: Even know what night it was?
• 2:57
Speaker 2: Well? I do you know, because I am a morning person.
• 2:59
Speaker 2: I always have been, and.
• 3:01
Speaker 4: I get up at two o'clock every morning.
• 3:03
Speaker 2: Okay, well you got me beat. I get up at
• 3:05
Speaker 2: four thirty or five somewhere between there. But I did
• 3:09
Speaker 2: what normally happens in my house. My wife and I
• 3:13
Speaker 2: were just kind of you know, watching TV, watch a
• 3:14
Speaker 2: little football and whatever. Both went to sleep on the couch,
• 3:18
Speaker 2: set the alarm for eleven fifty nine, so the alarm
• 3:21
Speaker 2: my phone goes off. We wake up and watch the
• 3:23
Speaker 2: ball drop and go, hey, Happy New Year, and then
• 3:26
Speaker 2: we go back to sleep.
• 3:27
Speaker 4: Whoa, I I'm watching new Steelers now. I was reading
• 3:34
Speaker 4: the New York Times. They have a really good sports section.
• 3:39
Speaker 4: Steelers have a two point seven one in the Super Bowl.
• 3:44
  Speaker 2: Right, I didn't. I watched a little of the game
• 3:47
Speaker 2: last night, but again past my bedtime. But I did
• 3:49
Speaker 2: get up and see the score this morning. Sounds like
• 3:51
Speaker 2: it was an exciting game.
• 3:53
Speaker 4: Yeah yeah. A couple of missed field goals hurt both teams.
• 3:57
Speaker 2: Well, my Cowboys are you know done? I mean they
• 4:01
Speaker 2: were done going in. I mean there's no chance for
• 4:04
Speaker 2: them to make the playoffs.
• 4:05
Speaker 4: Have they won since Jimmy Johnson left?
• 4:08
Speaker 2: They won the Super Bowl in the ninety five season
• 4:10
Speaker 2: when Barry Switzer was the head coach, but they have
• 4:12
Speaker 2: not won a Super Bowl since the ninety five ninety
• 4:16
Speaker 2: six Seeds. And I did a little little video on
• 4:19
Speaker 2: social media about this the last time the Cowboys won
• 4:22
Speaker 2: or even made it to the Super Bowl. I recorded
• 4:25
Speaker 2: the game on VHS. Okay, I still have it on VHS,
• 4:29
Speaker 2: but have nothing to play it on. Okay, that's how
• 4:31
Speaker 2: long ago it was. I was twenty five years old
• 4:37
Speaker 2: and now I'm fifty five, so that should tell you
• 4:39
Speaker 2: how long it's been. Now. Barry Switzer was the coach then,
• 4:42
Speaker 2: and they beat the Steelers in that Super Bowl. But
• 4:46
Speaker 2: it's it's rough being a Cowboy fan. Top rated offense
• 4:50
Speaker 2: in the league, but the worst rated defense.
• 4:53
Speaker 4: Why did Barry leave?
• 4:55
Speaker 2: Well, Barry Switzer was kind of an interesting toy as
• 5:00
Speaker 2: a head coach anyway. He was with Oklahoma, had some
• 5:03
Speaker 2: controversy out there, and you know, it was known for
• 5:05
Speaker 2: some recruiting violations and so on and so forth. But
• 5:08
Speaker 2: he and Jerry Jones were longtime friends and uh and
• 5:10
Speaker 2: they he invited him back to coach a couple of seasons.
• 5:13
Speaker 2: Then after that it was parcels and a series of
• 5:15
Speaker 2: people after that. Now we got Schottenheimer, which I think
• 5:19
Speaker 2: is going to be a good coach. Probably Miss Cowboys
• 5:21
Speaker 2: have no defense. I mean, you and I could probably
• 5:23
Speaker 2: gain one hundred yards rushing against the Cowboy defense are terrible.
• 5:26
Speaker 2: The number one rated offense and the thirty second rated defense.
• 5:29
Speaker 2: I mean, you don't win gains that way.
• 5:31
Speaker 4: Steelers shall have a quarterback whose beards is the same
• 5:34
Speaker 4: color as mine at the girl, are you talking about Aaron?
• 5:39
Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers. They can come back next season because he's
• 5:42
Speaker 2: signed a one year deal with Pittsburgh, and he indicated
• 5:47
Speaker 2: first this is it, I'm done after this season. But
• 5:50
Speaker 2: then he said in a press conference last week, Danny,
• 5:52
Speaker 2: he just said, well, you know, I'm I'm I'll be
• 5:55
Speaker 2: around maybe next year somewhere. And he's only only on
• 5:59
Speaker 2: a one year deal of Pittsburgh.
• 6:00
Speaker 4: That'd be to coach some one.
• 6:02
Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, he's not the future. I mean by Church
• 6:04
Speaker 2: of the imagination, he's definitely not, especially at his age.
• 6:08
Speaker 2: All Right, big question is when when what's the status
• 6:10
Speaker 2: of the book? When when we get new books.
• 6:11
Speaker 4: In It's very disappointing. I'm looking for any day and
• 6:22
Speaker 4: of course I got two places they sell. I got
• 6:26
Speaker 4: one vendor won't pay me. I meant to who it
• 6:29
Speaker 4: is won't pay me. And but Taylor Books has the
• 6:35
Speaker 4: order for anything I can bring down there. And then
• 6:39
Speaker 4: there's a place over on the West Side. Most people
• 6:41
Speaker 4: don't know. We talked about this last week because we're
• 6:43
Speaker 4: called West Virginia Books, and people that know it call
• 6:48
Speaker 4: it Bill's Books several on Central Avenue and he's self Books.
• 6:56
Speaker 2: So so any day now we could have more books,
• 6:58
Speaker 2: is what you're saying. Yeah, yeah, well, I mean people
• 7:01
Speaker 2: definitely want them. I mean everybody is I get at
• 7:04
Speaker 2: least somebody once at eight or I bump into or
• 7:07
Speaker 2: they text me or something sings, Wh's Danny going to
• 7:09
Speaker 2: get more books? Yeah, but you'll you'll let us know
• 7:11
Speaker 2: so we can put it out there.
• 7:12
Speaker 4: Now you can buy you can buy them on Amazon.
• 7:17
Speaker 4: You can buy them, and you can't buy hardback. You
• 7:21
Speaker 4: can buy hardback on Barnes and Noble, but it's forty
• 7:27
  Speaker 4: five dollars.
• 7:27
Speaker 2: But now you said that the that the paperback books,
• 7:30
Speaker 2: that the paperback books actually look good.
• 7:32
Speaker 4: And they're not bad. I mean I've got one at
• 7:34
Speaker 4: home and they are not bad. At all So that's
• 7:39
Speaker 4: you can buy those online for about thirty bucks.
• 7:41
Speaker 2: Right, So talking to Danny Jones. All right, So over
• 7:46
Speaker 2: the weekend, overnight Friday to the exact, US forces went
• 7:49
Speaker 2: into Venezuela and capture President Nicholas Maduro and his wife.
• 7:52
Speaker 2: He was taken from his jail cell in New York
• 7:55
Speaker 2: to a courtroom. This morning. I saw the video. Matter
• 7:58
Speaker 2: of fact, I even shared it on my social medium,
• 8:00
Speaker 2: the radio pages of of him being he's in the
• 8:04
Speaker 2: same jail that is also in the past house. Did
• 8:07
Speaker 2: he comb Seawan? Did he colmbs and and and some
• 8:10
Speaker 2: other people. You're we'll start from the broad picture of
• 8:14
Speaker 2: this thing that happened, uh, and then kind of break
• 8:16
Speaker 2: it down a little bit overall your your view of
• 8:18
  Speaker 2: what happened within.
• 8:19
Speaker 4: At my door number one, I would I would advise
• 8:23
Speaker 4: people to read the indictment because it's it's damning, damn
• 8:29
Speaker 4: twenty five pages. Yeah, it's really he he was just
• 8:34
Speaker 4: a one man crime or he and his wife they
• 8:36
Speaker 4: were just a crime wave, just a drug a drug
• 8:41
Speaker 4: crime wave. And I was shocked, really that they were
• 8:47
Speaker 4: able to go in there and capture a president and
• 8:50
Speaker 4: his wife from another country.
• 8:52
  Speaker 2: I mean, if you, and I'm speaking it's a non
• 8:54
Speaker 2: military person, certainly supportive of the military, but I never served.
• 8:58
Speaker 2: But I mean, if you there's a reason why they
• 9:00
Speaker 2: say we have the finest forces in the world. But
• 9:02
Speaker 2: I mean, to be to be able to go in
• 9:05
Speaker 2: minimizing casualties. I mean, we didn't have any as far
• 9:08
Speaker 2: as I know, we didn't have anything. But I mean,
• 9:11
Speaker 2: to go in and get this guy laser pointed to
• 9:15
Speaker 2: where he was. The time of day took a lot
• 9:18
Speaker 2: of I mean, they didn't just on Friday afternoon at
• 9:21
Speaker 2: three say we're going in. I mean, the weather had
• 9:23
Speaker 2: to be right, and they pulled it off.
• 9:25
Speaker 4: We had a lot of help on the inside. Yeah,
• 9:28
Speaker 4: I'm sure we had a lot of help. And a
• 9:31
Speaker 4: lot of generals are millionaires because to keep Maduro, you know,
• 9:38
Speaker 4: to keep him in power. I mean, he didn't have
• 9:41
Speaker 4: this for the people. But he had a chance to
• 9:44
Speaker 4: go to Turkey. He could have gone to and lived
• 9:48
Speaker 4: in Turkey with his wife, and he wouldn't. He wouldn't
• 9:52
Speaker 4: do it. He said, well, I'll leave for two hundred
• 9:55
Speaker 4: million dollars. Okay, Well how's that work for him? You know,
• 10:02
Speaker 4: now here here, here's a couple couple of things. I
• 10:04
Speaker 4: want you to look for. Number one, who's his lawyer
• 10:08
Speaker 4: going to be? And I'll suggest the name Jeffrey Lickman. Jeffrey,
• 10:18
Speaker 4: That's who. That's who I would if he if he
• 10:23
Speaker 4: asked me, what do I you know, I'd say, Jeffrey Lickman.
• 10:30
Speaker 4: Why is that? I think he's the best criminal lawyer
• 10:34
Speaker 4: in the country. I mean he is now, of course
• 10:39
Speaker 4: he represented El Chappo, but who's going to win that case?
• 10:44
Speaker 4: But he represented John Gotti, John A. Gotty the Kid
• 10:52
Speaker 4: on three different occasions and got him hung jury's all
• 10:55
Speaker 4: three times and and they finally gave up. He got
• 11:01
Speaker 4: him acquittals on a lot of it, but on the
• 11:05
Speaker 4: racketeering he got him and there's a video of him
• 11:11
Speaker 4: explaining it, this pitch to the jury at the end,
• 11:17
Speaker 4: which always wents the case. And he is That's who
• 11:25
Speaker 4: I'd get number one. But the other lawyers like Benjamin Bradman,
• 11:31
Speaker 4: those kind of they're too old. They're you know, even
• 11:34
Speaker 4: William Taylor, the lawyer represented Blanket Ship, he's in that league, yeah,
• 11:40
Speaker 4: but he's these guys are too old and Anny, I
• 11:43
Speaker 4: don't think anyone would argue that the world is a
• 11:46
Speaker 4: better place with Maduro not being in power.
• 11:49
Speaker 2: But there's still a lot of questions here. I mean
• 11:51
Speaker 2: a lot of questions, and I don't think it makes
• 11:53
Speaker 2: you unpatriotic on any subject answer to just ask questions
• 11:56
Speaker 2: and just say, like a little bit further explanation on this,
• 12:00
Speaker 2: and then the press conference on Monday or it's on
• 12:04
Speaker 2: on Saturday afternoon. The press conference with Rubio and Haig
• 12:08
Speaker 2: Seth and all the others, I think lended itself to
• 12:11
Speaker 2: more questions because you know, when the president says and
• 12:14
Speaker 2: the others say, we are running Venezuela.
• 12:17
Speaker 4: Now, I don't know why he said.
• 12:20
  Speaker 2: I don't know really what that. I mean, you don't
• 12:23
Speaker 2: want to go in take out the president and go okay, folks, citizens,
• 12:26
Speaker 2: you're on your own. I get that. But that was
• 12:29
Speaker 2: just a weird as they say that would That was
• 12:32
Speaker 2: just a weird flex.
• 12:33
Speaker 4: The duly elected president of Venezuela is in Spain. She
• 12:41
Speaker 4: it's got the Nobel Peace Press and that's the duly elected.
• 12:46
Speaker 4: But we're not going to go in there and run
• 12:48
  Speaker 4: that country.
• 12:49
  Speaker 2: Now.
• 12:49
Speaker 4: What we could do is embargo the oil uh and
• 12:56
Speaker 4: keep it out of Cuba and may Cuba next because
• 13:01
Speaker 4: without Venezuela and oil, Cuba can't.
• 13:05
Speaker 2: Well, Cuba's already weighed in on it. Their their leader
• 13:08
Speaker 2: has has condemned it.
• 13:10
Speaker 4: There's been a he can do whatever he wanted. Yeah, yeah,
• 13:13
Speaker 4: because his veriant on the chopping block too. And I
• 13:19
Speaker 4: understand people don't like it, But was Russia going to complain?
• 13:24
Speaker 2: Was the Venezuelan people seem to Definitely? I mean they
• 13:28
Speaker 2: just had you know, a handful of people, I mean
• 13:30
Speaker 2: literally a handful of people that expressed an outrage over
• 13:35
Speaker 2: The people love it. I mean, the people in Venezuela
• 13:38
Speaker 2: love it that they feel like they've been liberated.
• 13:40
Speaker 4: Seven million people left, seven million left the country because
• 13:46
  Speaker 4: of Maduro.
• 13:46
Speaker 2: Now did they come back?
• 13:48
Speaker 4: Well, we'll have to wait and see.
• 13:50
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 13:50
Speaker 4: I think we need to watch what happens with that
• 13:52
Speaker 4: vice president or the who's now the president?
• 13:56
Speaker 2: Right? But yeah, because I think and I'm very much
• 13:58
Speaker 2: paraphrasing here, didn't the present and the others say about her, well,
• 14:02
Speaker 2: you know, she's okay for now, but she's not the
• 14:04
Speaker 2: long term answer. And again I'm very much paraphrase.
• 14:06
Speaker 4: She's not she's not legitimate, right, she's not the duly
• 14:10
Speaker 4: elected president, right, right that one. She's in Spain and
• 14:17
Speaker 4: I don't know if they can bring her back or
• 14:20
Speaker 4: her but you know, the military kind of runs things.
• 14:24
Speaker 4: The military deposed Maduro or Chavez once and then after
• 14:31
Speaker 4: two days they put him back.
• 14:33
Speaker 2: Hold that thought right here, It's nine twenty two. I
• 14:35
Speaker 2: need to take a break. We'll have more Danny Jones coming.

Speaker 2: where regime changing in nation building in Venezuela? Is it
• 17:24
Speaker 2: for oil? Is because of drugs? It's because Maduro slided Trump.

Speaker 2: All I know is everyone who supports this, who was

• 17:44
Speaker 4: I've already shot down to your argument.
• 17:47
Speaker 2: Texas, says Dave. Florida got here. Democrats and liberals had
• 17:53
Speaker 2: a bad enough day when their buddy was arrested in Venezuela,
• 17:55
Speaker 2: and to make things worse for them, they didn't get
• 17:57
Speaker 2: the chance to celebrate any American soldiers getting killed, like

• 18:02

• 18:13
Speaker 4: Maduro's unstill in power. What's what's going on? You know,
• 18:19
Speaker 4: you'll see that sound bite before the days are he
• 18:22
Speaker 4: was criticizing Trump because Maduro was still there, right, and
• 18:26
Speaker 4: that was it during Trump's first term. Right, I'm not
• 18:31
Speaker 4: in the nation building I was. That was one of
• 18:34
Speaker 4: the reasons that I was kind of disowned by the

• 19:00
Speaker 2: to the type of oil Venezuela has. From what I've
• 19:03
Speaker 2: been reading, it's the worst oil, difficult to refine, and
• 19:06
Speaker 2: needs extensive infrastructure and processing to even get it on
• 19:09
Speaker 2: tankers and to take it to refineries. Five to seven
• 19:12
Speaker 2: years seem to be the optimistic estimate estimate to get
• 19:15
  Speaker 2: the oil flowing.
• 19:16
Speaker 4: We can refine it.
• 19:18
Speaker 2: That we can do, Texas, Dave, Remember Iraqi's celebrating when
• 19:22
Speaker 2: Saddam was toppled. Remember their feeling of liberation. Remember what
• 19:25
Speaker 2: happened in the following years. I don't understand people's optimism
• 19:28
Speaker 2: with this. The USA doesn't have a good history with
• 19:31
Speaker 2: regime change and nation building, because that's what this is.
• 19:34
Speaker 4: Once again, you're pointing out something that's not not true.

• 20:04
Speaker 4: and keep it from going to Cuba, and Cuba wants
• 20:08
Speaker 4: to get mad. I don't think i'd be careful what

Speaker 4: to criticize this? Russia? Russia, of all people, are they
• 20:21
Speaker 4: going to criticize this Texas?

• 21:56
Speaker 2: lot of the debate back and forth yesterday, well, actually
• 21:58
Speaker 2: on Saturday too, but yesterday and so the wanting news shows.
• 22:01
Speaker 2: I know Rubio was on ABC and I heard him speaking,
• 22:03
Speaker 2: and and of course Stepanopolis was doing Stepanopolis is doing
• 22:09
Speaker 2: what he does, which is appearing, you know, to be
• 22:11
Speaker 2: as smarmy as possible. And sometimes I agree with Okay,
• 22:15
Speaker 2: five percent of the time, maybe five percent of the time,
• 22:18
Speaker 2: that's about it. But just his attitude, I think is
• 22:20
Speaker 2: what you know, I get a lot of questions about.
• 22:23
Speaker 2: But the question is, and what seems to be going
• 22:26
Speaker 2: back and forth, is did they have to have congressional approval?
• 22:28
  Speaker 5: Well?
• 22:29
Speaker 2: This was not okay? And and Danny, I tend to
• 22:32
Speaker 2: agree with you, and I liked what Rubio has said
• 22:34
Speaker 2: ever since Saturday. He said, look and he Seth said
• 22:37
Speaker 2: this in so of the president Congress. I mean, how
• 22:41
Speaker 2: are you going to keep that sort of a thing quiet?
• 22:43
Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
• 22:44
Speaker 4: And address to con Yeah, and we're.
• 22:48
Speaker 2: Coming, you know, get ready to pack your bags, Maduro,
• 22:51
Speaker 2: We're coming for you. I get that. I think the
• 22:53
Speaker 2: question here that a lot of people have about this is, Okay,
• 22:57
Speaker 2: he had warrants in America, we have the right to
• 23:00
Speaker 2: go in and get him, okay, But when you involve
• 23:02
Speaker 2: the military in it, That's where a lot of people
• 23:05
Speaker 2: and I'm not saying this right or wrong, Danny, I'm
• 23:07
Speaker 2: just saying that's where a lot of people have questions.
• 23:09
Speaker 2: Is were we justified? Were we justified to go get him? Yes?
• 23:13
  Speaker 4: Military?
• 23:14
Speaker 2: Were we justified to use the military to do it?
• 23:16
Speaker 2: Some people say no, you say.
• 23:17
Speaker 4: What military was involved with? No Diego? And they were
• 23:22
Speaker 4: involved in the one Reagan did. I can't remember that.
• 23:28
Speaker 2: Texas Danny defined, nation building is building Venezuela's oil infrastructure
• 23:32
Speaker 2: so it becomes a more prosperous country. Is that not
• 23:36
Speaker 2: nation building? Well, hold on is removing a president and
• 23:39
Speaker 2: threatening the success or, not regime change.
• 23:43
Speaker 4: We didn't. We arrested the president because and I would
• 23:47
Speaker 4: urge the individual to read the indictment. It's twenty five ages.
• 23:53
Speaker 2: Rubia was doing the same thing yesterday. He kept telling Stephanopolis, you.
• 23:56
  Speaker 4: Know, read the indictments. It's a it's a really riveting
• 24:06
Speaker 4: charge made against this man. So he's being treated like
• 24:10
Speaker 4: a criminal, and his vice president's in charge. Now, as
• 24:16
Speaker 4: far as that's a good question about the nation building,
• 24:19
Speaker 4: but if there's a nation building to be done down there,
• 24:23
Speaker 4: it won't be done by us. It'll be done by
• 24:26
Speaker 4: the oil companies if they can get back in there.
• 24:31
Speaker 4: If it depends on who the president is, if they
• 24:36
Speaker 4: bring this lady in she won the election last year,
• 24:40
  Speaker 4: or the man.
• 24:42
Speaker 2: The person when he lets birth the person. Tex says.
• 24:45
Speaker 2: The US has the best capacity of any country to
• 24:47
Speaker 2: refine the heavy crew that Venezuela has more reserves of
• 24:51
Speaker 2: than any other nation of the planet. It's all about oil,
• 24:54
Speaker 2: not cocaine. Don Junior is still getting his.
• 24:58
  Speaker 4: I don't know about but but I'm not sure. I'm
• 25:06
Speaker 4: not well. Oil plays a big part, both negatively and positively,
• 25:15
Speaker 4: because if they blockade oil to Cuba, Cuba's going down.
• 25:22
Speaker 2: Tex says, with the morons voting in the likes of
• 25:24
Speaker 2: Bernie Aoc and Mandamie, you can tell the history and
• 25:28
Speaker 2: evils of socialism and communism has not been taught in
• 25:31
Speaker 2: public schools in decades. The Berlin Wall came down when
• 25:34
Speaker 2: I was in high school, and I remember the younger
• 25:36
Speaker 2: generation's crist of jubilation for freedom.
• 25:39
Speaker 4: Finally, remember the name Jeffrey Lickman, and remember what our
• 25:46
Speaker 4: conversation about the jury pool, because I think that is
• 25:51
Speaker 4: so significant. Maybe your listeners will have some opinions on
• 25:58
  Speaker 4: that I.
• 25:59
Speaker 2: Want to ask you a quick question. Be where I
• 26:01
Speaker 2: let you go. It's totally not related to this in
• 26:03
Speaker 2: any way. The legislature will gabble in next week and
• 26:07
Speaker 2: we'll have you on of course next week to talk
• 26:08
Speaker 2: about that. But a couple of weeks ago, Speaker Handshaw
• 26:11
Speaker 2: and some of the House folks got together did a
• 26:14
Speaker 2: little press conference that we are going to we are
• 26:16
Speaker 2: going to focus on jobs, the economy, so on and so forth,
• 26:19
Speaker 2: not so much on the social issues. This was the House,
• 26:22
Speaker 2: not the Senate, saying what are the chances that they
• 26:26
Speaker 2: hold true to that?
• 26:29
Speaker 4: Well, I mean that's what we need. That's what West Virginia.
• 26:33
Speaker 4: I mean, they've done about all they can do socially.
• 26:37
Speaker 4: You can't get an abortion in this state, and well,
• 26:41
Speaker 4: I mean, what else do you want?
• 26:43
Speaker 2: Oh, I'm sure there's things out there.
• 26:44
Speaker 4: I mean, why not focus on something that affects every
• 26:51
Speaker 4: single West forgid't it? Instead of just a few we
• 26:57
Speaker 4: Virginians people. People can get abortion, they just have to

Speaker 2: in that little bit later on the show today, She's
• 32:12
Speaker 2: never on her cell phone, it never even rings. It's
• 32:14
Speaker 2: amy good when the child I.
• 32:16
Speaker 11: U not that I have anything to do with the
• 32:19
Speaker 11: policies at our schools, but as a mother of two,
• 32:22
Speaker 11: I wish it was in place when my kids were
• 32:24
Speaker 11: in school. I don't like them, right, I mean here
• 32:27
Speaker 11: she is sitting with her in front. It's captive though,
• 32:31
Speaker 11: and it captures you and it's not I mean, I
• 32:33
Speaker 11: can get a ton of stuff. As a matter of fact,
• 32:35
Speaker 11: Tjen ever, just talking about when you when you you know,
• 32:38
Speaker 11: work in the either remote employee, you know you work,
• 32:43
Speaker 11: you do zoom you you could do anything mostly anything
• 32:48
Speaker 11: from your house or your car if you had one
• 32:51
Speaker 11: of these in your hands. My then sixteen year old
• 32:54
Speaker 11: surely didn't need one well in school, and especially if
• 32:57
Speaker 11: I were standing in front of them as an instructor.
• 32:59
Speaker 11: In both of my parents for teachers, they would have
• 33:01
Speaker 11: said no, thank you, no way, no how well.
• 33:04
Speaker 2: What's been proven, Mayor is nationwide that when school systems
• 33:08
Speaker 2: have implemented these policies, who has the problem with it
• 33:12
Speaker 2: is not the kid. It's the parent.
• 33:14
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's the parent.
• 33:15
Speaker 2: The kids got used to it. And there's been studies
• 33:18
  Speaker 2: also study.
• 33:19
Speaker 11: I want to get a hold of you, right, I
• 33:20
Speaker 11: want to find out where you are, what are you
• 33:22
Speaker 11: doing listen. I also I will say I had them
• 33:25
Speaker 11: too for my kids when you're getting picked up when
• 33:28
Speaker 11: is practice. It was a good communication device for It's
• 33:33
Speaker 11: selfish for parents, right, it's selfish. I want to get
• 33:35
Speaker 11: you when I want to get you. Are you running
• 33:36
Speaker 11: late today? You know I'm here for your dentist appointment.
• 33:39
Speaker 11: Hurry up, let's go. So it's a selfish thing for
• 33:42
  Speaker 11: the most part.
• 33:42
Speaker 2: And that's what whatever happened? I mean, you know you
• 33:45
Speaker 2: and I are roughly yeah, I'm older than you.
• 33:47
Speaker 4: Okay, all right, So.
• 33:49
Speaker 2: So whatever happened to the fact that, okay, the kid
• 33:52
Speaker 2: leaves the house at seven seven thirty and you say, okay,
• 33:55
Speaker 2: don't forget after school you have soccer practice, parents, Yeah,
• 33:59
Speaker 2: you have to. I'm going to pick you up in
• 34:01
Speaker 2: front of and I'm going to use a logan reference here.
• 34:03
Speaker 2: I'll pick you up in front of the bowling alley
• 34:05
Speaker 2: at three o'clock and then we're going to take you
• 34:07
Speaker 2: What happened to that? What happened to teaching kids to remember.
• 34:11
Speaker 4: Remember and next thing?
• 34:13
Speaker 11: And having my sister and I sit and wait an
• 34:16
Speaker 11: extra half hour because my parents were running late because
• 34:18
Speaker 11: of work didn't really harm us. We had to wait
• 34:22
Speaker 11: a little We survived. We survived. Floyd Schuler would have said,
• 34:27
Speaker 11: you're totally fine. If I would have had a phone
• 34:29
Speaker 11: and would have been texting on the phone while he
• 34:32
Speaker 11: was having a conversation with me, the phone would have
• 34:34
Speaker 11: been out the window in the garbage, like you.
• 34:38
Speaker 2: Just just and you'd be lucky if you weren't attached
• 34:40
  Speaker 2: to it.
• 34:41
Speaker 4: For sure. Oh those were the day before.
• 34:45
Speaker 2: I want to talk about your state of the city
• 34:47
Speaker 2: at night. But before I do that, I want to
• 34:49
Speaker 2: I want to say a couple of things. It's been
• 34:51
Speaker 2: a good couple of weeks for restaurants here in Charleston
• 34:54
Speaker 2: New Year. You know, we had the soft opening one downtown.
• 34:56
Speaker 11: And I was there at one one.
• 34:58
Speaker 4: It was so fun.
• 34:58
Speaker 2: The folks at the Bourbon Street be are going to
• 35:00
Speaker 2: have a ribbon cutting with the Alliance a little bit
• 35:02
Speaker 2: later on today. I think. So, if you're hungry in Charleston,
• 35:06
Speaker 2: it's your own fault.
• 35:07
Speaker 11: Well, and lots of different flare right. Everybody kind of
• 35:10
Speaker 11: has their own spin on it. And you know, one
• 35:12
Speaker 11: oh one is going to grow into a big steakhouse
• 35:14
Speaker 11: as well. I mean, Denny has done just an amazing
• 35:17
Speaker 11: job when I walked in there on New Year's Eve
• 35:19
Speaker 11: for their soft grand opening with my husband Booth. We
• 35:23
Speaker 11: were like, wait a second, this is different now, new
• 35:27
Speaker 11: flooring and new ceiling, a new bar, and I mean
• 35:29
Speaker 11: they just gutted the place. And actually, so to tie in,
• 35:34
Speaker 11: that's what I'm talking about tonight. In the state of
• 35:36
Speaker 11: the city, you know, municipal governments and people in elected office,
• 35:40
Speaker 11: we have a really bad habit of saying, look what
• 35:43
  Speaker 11: I did, Look what I did. I'm a daughter of
• 35:46
Speaker 11: a small business owner. By the way, that guy who
• 35:48
Speaker 11: would have thrown my cell phone down the block he
• 35:50
Speaker 11: was at work. You want to know when early in
• 35:53
Speaker 11: the morning, you know when he stayed late at night.
• 35:55
Speaker 11: You know what else he worked nights and weekends and holidays.
• 35:57
Speaker 11: Because when you run your own business and you understand
• 36:01
Speaker 11: that the dollars and cents that come through your cash
• 36:04
Speaker 11: register depends upon working smarter and harder, That's what I
• 36:10
Speaker 11: get to talk about tonight because I want to take
• 36:12
Speaker 11: this opportunity to remind folks too. And there will be
• 36:16
Speaker 11: a couple of really interesting things that we're going to
• 36:19
Speaker 11: announce tonight, and I'm very excited to talk about one big, big,
• 36:22
Speaker 11: big future development that folks have been asking me about
• 36:27
Speaker 11: for a very long period of time. And so we'll
• 36:28
Speaker 11: save it for tonight, but I'll call you tomorrow. But
• 36:34
Speaker 11: hundreds of millions of dollars of private investment we forget.
• 36:38
Speaker 11: Oh hey, a new restaurant's opening. You know how hard
• 36:40
Speaker 11: it is to open a restaurant. You know how hard
• 36:43
Speaker 11: it is to build apartment complexes. You know how hard
• 36:45
Speaker 11: it is to continue to build and invest. It says
• 36:49
Speaker 11: a lot about a city, I believe when you see, yeah,
• 36:52
Speaker 11: we're doing things. The municipal government has kind of changed.
• 36:55
Speaker 11: It's almost like universities building and growing because people put
• 37:00
Speaker 11: such a high regard when they're moving to places on
• 37:03
Speaker 11: quality of life. That's why we have to Cities must
• 37:07
Speaker 11: reinvent themselves, just like small businesses. What do you want
• 37:11
Speaker 11: out of your city? We're never going to get away from,
• 37:14
Speaker 11: nor should we. The things that municipal government should do
• 37:17
Speaker 11: and do well. Pick up your trash, salt and scrape
• 37:20
Speaker 11: your roads. A police fire ems period all day long,
• 37:25
Speaker 11: twenty four hours a day. Parks, free swimming for our
• 37:28
Speaker 11: kids who need a good and safe place to go.
• 37:31
Speaker 11: We're good for our kids who need a good and
• 37:34
Speaker 11: safe place to go. We're good at that, but by
• 37:38
Speaker 11: the way, we also have to work with folks who
• 37:40
Speaker 11: are building and investing in the city, and that's what
• 37:42
Speaker 11: I'm going to be talking about tonight. I'm also going
• 37:44
Speaker 11: to be highlighting many, many people who have truly made
• 37:50
Speaker 11: not just tens of millions of dollars of investment in
• 37:54
Speaker 11: our city, but also folks who are really changing the
• 37:57
Speaker 11: narrative and changing the landscape. Because we get very myopic
• 38:01
Speaker 11: in what we do right, very myopic. This is my project,
• 38:05
Speaker 11: these are the things I want to do, and so
• 38:07
Speaker 11: tonight is a nod to folks throughout the city and
• 38:10
Speaker 11: throughout the state. When we say we are better together,
• 38:14
Speaker 11: we mean it because the city of Charleston is thriving,
• 38:17
Speaker 11: and not just because of the things that we're doing
• 38:19
Speaker 11: in municipal government. It is because people believe in the city.
• 38:24
Speaker 11: And it's not me just saying it or putting it
• 38:27
Speaker 11: out on social media. Are putting a pretty picture out there,
• 38:31
Speaker 11: it's dollars and cents. I'm going to talk about the
• 38:33
Speaker 11: dollars and the investment people are bringing, because people are
• 38:37
Speaker 11: bringing hundreds of millions of dollars just over the past
• 38:42
Speaker 11: handful of years. Why because they believe that their investment,
• 38:46
Speaker 11: by the way, is going to have a good return
• 38:47
Speaker 11: for them, and so we're very excited about that.
• 38:51
Speaker 2: Charleson Marry Mischieldller good ones. Here she will give her
• 38:53
Speaker 2: State of the City speech to night in front of
• 38:55
Speaker 2: Charleston City Council with Dave Allen Show and five eighty
• 38:57
Speaker 2: Live brought to you in part. But generations for the
• 39:00

• 39:12
Speaker 2: All Right, so you kind of teased a big announcement
• 39:15
Speaker 2: or something tonight. So you want to go ahead and
• 39:16
Speaker 2: schedule to come on the show tomorrow?
• 39:18
Speaker 11: Yeah, come on tomorrow. Yeah, I want to get back
• 39:20
Speaker 11: to the office. I'll tell Tina.
• 39:22
Speaker 2: Listen to it would be just in case I forget
• 39:25
Speaker 2: to read nine to twenty.
• 39:26
Speaker 11: Tomorrow, nine twenty tomorrow, Okay, I.
• 39:28
Speaker 2: Think Tina, are you on that hur right?
• 39:31
Speaker 11: I'll look at my look ready, I would go look
• 39:32
Speaker 11: at my friend, your people.
• 39:34
Speaker 2: Your people got my people, and my people is me.
• 39:37
Speaker 11: And you know that's that's the other thing. And I'm
• 39:39
Speaker 11: glad you're giving me a moment to talk about this
• 39:41
Speaker 11: as well. I say it, I say it till I'm
• 39:44
Speaker 11: blue in the face. I'm one of seven hundred and
• 39:45
Speaker 11: fifty employees. I'm just one. I'm just one man. We
• 39:48
Speaker 11: have amazing department directors, we have amazing folks, and our
• 39:52
Speaker 11: CPD and CFD, and our emergency responders, folks who are
• 39:57
Speaker 11: salting and scraping, the folks who I said hello to
• 40:00
Speaker 11: on my way in. Our maintenance crew are out scrubbing
• 40:04
Speaker 11: the floors and cleaning the toilets and sinks to prepare
• 40:07
Speaker 11: folks to come in to work and to have our
• 40:10
Speaker 11: public come in our buildings. We have amazing, amazing city
• 40:15
Speaker 11: employees who have chosen not just to live in the
• 40:18
Speaker 11: City of Charleston, but to work for the City of Charleston.
• 40:21
Speaker 11: And I'm so incredibly proud to work with them every day.
• 40:24
Speaker 11: And I really mean it. You know, as you well know,
• 40:27
Speaker 11: I'm not going to do this job forever, hopefully just
• 40:30
Speaker 11: one more time. But the thing that I will absolutely
• 40:34
Speaker 11: love more than any other position that I've had. The
• 40:39
Speaker 11: people who I get to work with every single day
• 40:42
Speaker 11: are just amazing. They're just they have dedicated their life
• 40:46
Speaker 11: to public service. And to stop and think the guys
• 40:50
Speaker 11: that I saw this morning who were working on the
• 40:53
  Speaker 11: lands
