- 1:30Speaker 3: We'll talk a little sports gaming. You can text us 601-885-3776.
- 1:35Speaker 3: That is the Cabo Maloney's text line. We're brought to
- 1:37Speaker 3: you by Mississippi Sports Medicine. Call us on the Mississippi
- 1:40Speaker 3: Sports Medicine caller line, 601-897-1059. We're at Heinz today, so
- 1:46Speaker 3: we're getting ready for opening night in Juco football here
- 1:50Speaker 3: in the state of Mississippi. Ittawamba is here. The buses
- 1:53Speaker 3: just pulled up about 30 minutes ago. And I'll tell
- 1:56Speaker 3: you what, the rain, it rained heavily last night, which
- 1:59Speaker 3: I am tickled pink by. They said it dumped a
- 2:02Speaker 3: lot of water out here, but you can't even tell it.
- 2:03Speaker 3: I think this field, which, you know, obviously Heinz plays
- 2:06Speaker 3: on a grass field, so I think it needed it.
- 2:09Speaker 3: I think the entire area needed it. All right, so...
- 2:13Speaker 3: Let me get into pivot real quickly. There is a
- 2:16Speaker 3: piece by Matt Zenitz on CBSSports.com. It says, Shador's clouded future.
- 2:22Speaker 3: NFL coaches, execs say Sanders may not even be backup
- 2:27Speaker 3: caliber after telling benching. After Deshaun Watson won Cleveland's starting job,
- 2:32Speaker 3: NFL coaches and front office officials explain why Sanders faces
- 2:36Speaker 3: an uncertain future and why some teams wouldn't trade for
- 2:40Speaker 3: him even if he became This is leading up to
- 2:43Speaker 3: the Browns' preseason game against the Bills last week. There
- 2:46Speaker 3: was a widespread expectation inside the Cleveland building that Deshaun
- 2:51Speaker 3: Watson would prevail over Shador Sanders to win the Cleveland
- 2:54Speaker 3: starting quarterback job. It says while it was fair to
- 2:57Speaker 3: question afterwards whether the sloppy showcase from Watson in that
- 3:01Speaker 3: game and even more so his well-publicized postgame comments could
- 3:06Speaker 3: impact head coach Todd Monken's thought process with the competition.
- 3:12Speaker 3: It didn't end up deterring Munkin from going with the
- 3:15Speaker 3: quarterback he believes clearly gives the Browns the best chance
- 3:17Speaker 3: to win, Watson, whom he officially named as Cleveland's starting
- 3:21Speaker 3: quarterback on Monday morning. It says, however, because of Saturday,
- 3:26Speaker 3: the Browns are left with additional external skeptics that Watson
- 3:30Speaker 3: will have any success as Cleveland's starting quarterback. It also
- 3:33Speaker 3: led to another question among NFL coaching and front office circles.
- 3:37Speaker 3: What's next for Sanders now that he officially lost the competition?
- 3:41Speaker 3: The short answer, there aren't many, if any, NFL front
- 3:45Speaker 3: office staffers that view him as a starting quarterback or
- 3:49Speaker 3: caliber for the National Football League. Quote, him not being
- 3:53Speaker 3: able to beat out Deshaun Watson, who hasn't played in
- 3:55Speaker 3: the NFL in the regular season and in a game
- 3:58Speaker 3: since his first Achilles injury in 2004, is probably telling it.
- 4:02Speaker 3: One NFL front office staffer told CBS Sports, to be clear,
- 4:07Speaker 3: there have been some positives from Sanders the last two
- 4:09Speaker 3: years in Cleveland, including a 24-year year-old finishing 9-4-11 against
- 4:15Speaker 3: the Bills on Saturday with a touchdown pass and interception
- 4:19Speaker 3: that was a byproduct of a catchable pass tipping into
- 4:22Speaker 3: the air off the hands of the intended receiver. There's
- 4:25Speaker 3: also a clear chance he could end up starting at
- 4:28Speaker 3: some point depending on the play of Watson. However, it
- 4:32Speaker 3: shouldn't come as a surprise that the universal expectation around
- 4:35Speaker 3: the league is that the future of the Browns quarterback
- 4:37Speaker 3: room is currently playing for a college team and that
- 4:41Speaker 3: it's not Sanders, Watson, the 2025 third-round pick, Dylan Gabriel,
- 4:45Speaker 3: or rookie six-round selection, Talon Green. There are also even
- 4:49Speaker 3: questions about Sanders fitting and the way he fits as
- 4:53Speaker 3: a backup, including fair or not, because of the celebrity
- 4:56Speaker 3: distraction components that come along with him being such a
- 4:59Speaker 3: high-profile and polarizing figure. I'm going to stop right there
- 5:02Speaker 3: and say this. And, you know, we do this.
- 5:07Speaker 2: We.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Do this. Who is we? People? Y'all?
- 5:12Speaker 1: Me?
- 5:12Speaker 3: Everybody? We do this. What do we do? We make
- 5:17Speaker 3: somebody something they're not. Shador Sanders was never an NFL quarterback.
- 5:23Speaker 3: He wasn't. He just wasn't. But because he was Deion's son,
- 5:28Speaker 3: he was a nice college quarterback. He was a nice
- 5:32Speaker 3: college quarterback. There's a lot of nice college quarterbacks. A
- 5:36Speaker 3: lot of nice college quarterbacks. Look, Danny Warfel was a
- 5:40Speaker 3: nice college quarterback. He won the Heisman, right? And I
- 5:44Speaker 3: say nice. He was very good. Danny Warfel won the
- 5:46Speaker 3: Heisman Trophy at Florida. He was not an NFL quarterback.
- 5:51Speaker 3: And it's okay to say that. Deion Sanders, Hall of Famer, Cowboys, 49ers, Falcons.
- 6:02Speaker 3: We take these guys that are megastars and we want
- 6:06Speaker 3: to turn their kids into Into megastars. Look what we're doing.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Beaver does it all the time with the Mannings. He's
- 6:12Speaker 3: constantly on the Mannings, talking about how good the Mannings
- 6:15Speaker 3: are going to be. Rightfully so, the Mannings are pretty good.
- 6:18Speaker 3: But we take these guys. It's not fair. Shador didn't
- 6:22Speaker 3: do that. I mean, some of this he did himself,
- 6:24Speaker 3: but then he grew up a product of the system
- 6:28Speaker 3: that we have with young athletes and that we want
- 6:31Speaker 3: to make him a superstar. And he was a nice
- 6:35Speaker 3: college quarterback. But he was never going to be, and look,
- 6:39Speaker 3: he'll be on the roster. He's never going to be
- 6:41Speaker 3: a starter in the NFL. It's just not going to happen.
- 6:43Speaker 3: The guy doesn't have it. He doesn't have the moxie.
- 6:46Speaker 3: He doesn't have, you know, the ability as far as,
- 6:50Speaker 3: you know, reading defenses. And that's okay to say that
- 6:53Speaker 3: because there's a lot of guys like that. There's a
- 6:55Speaker 3: lot of guys. Look, what's his name? Manny's guy. Will Levis.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Will Levis is not an NFL quarterback. He's just not.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Kenny Pickett is not an NFL quarterback. These guys were
- 7:09Speaker 3: good college quarterbacks, but they're just not NFL quarterbacks. And
- 7:13Speaker 3: when you throw in on top of the fact all
- 7:16Speaker 3: of the noise that comes with Shador Sanders, it's just
- 7:20Speaker 3: not worth the dime. It's just not. And it's not
- 7:23Speaker 3: just me saying it. NFL executives are not saying it.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Sanders slipping to the fifth round of last year's NFL
- 7:29Speaker 3: draft wasn't just because of some pre-draft team interviews that
- 7:33Speaker 3: reportedly didn't go well or concerns about him being a distraction.
- 7:36Speaker 3: He says, frankly, there were a number of personnel– And
- 7:39Speaker 3: scouting sources who told CBS Sports and other outlets that
- 7:42Speaker 3: during the buildup to last year's draft, they didn't have
- 7:45Speaker 3: starter grades for Sanders. Now, what defines a starter grade?
- 7:49Speaker 3: How you throw the ball. Not just the deep ball.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Not the fade route. It's how you read defenses. It's
- 7:54Speaker 3: how your intermediate game is. It's how are you in
- 7:57Speaker 3: between snaps. It's how are you Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
- 8:01Speaker 3: All the stuff. They're saying he didn't grade right. He
- 8:04Speaker 3: didn't grade. You know, I heard a caller on Doug
- 8:08Speaker 3: Colson's show this morning And I can't even remember who
- 8:10Speaker 3: it was. It was an Alabama fan. And he was
- 8:14Speaker 3: just blown away that A.J. McCarron and some other Alabama
- 8:19Speaker 3: quarterback weren't ever given a shot to be a pro quarterback.
- 8:23Speaker 3: He didn't understand why because Joe Montana was. It's because
- 8:26Speaker 3: some guys just aren't cut out to be NFL quarterbacks.
- 8:30Speaker 3: It is a large, large jump to go from college
- 8:35Speaker 3: to NFL quarterback and be really good as an NFL quarterback.
- 8:39Speaker 3: The players are faster. The windows are smaller. The players
- 8:44Speaker 3: are bigger. The scene is bigger. The playbook's more robust.
- 8:49Speaker 3: I mean, there's so much that goes into it. Some
- 8:51Speaker 3: guys just fit right into it. Jackson Dart fit right
- 8:53Speaker 3: into it. Lamar Jackson fit right into it. It goes
- 8:58Speaker 3: on to say that he didn't have the starting grades
- 9:04Speaker 3: needed to be a starting quarterback just from a skill
- 9:06Speaker 3: set perspective. that questions his capability to be an effective
- 9:10Speaker 3: starter on the NFL level. Though Sanders wound up being
- 9:14Speaker 3: the Browns' starting quarterback for their final eight games of
- 9:16Speaker 3: the season, his quarterback rating, 68.1, ranked last in the
- 9:20Speaker 3: NFL among quarterbacks with more than 22 pass attempts. NFL
- 9:25Speaker 3: sources also still see clear weaknesses in his game just
- 9:31Speaker 3: beyond arm strength. Now, when you say arm strength, you're
- 9:34Speaker 3: not necessarily talking about throwing the ball on a fade
- 9:37Speaker 3: route 50 yards down the field. Arm strength, throwing off platform,
- 9:42Speaker 3: which means kind of cockeyed and sockeyed and throwing it
- 9:46Speaker 3: across the field from one hash to the other and
- 9:48Speaker 3: really putting it in a hole and doing all kinds
- 9:51Speaker 3: of things that you see Patrick Mahomes do and Josh
- 9:54Speaker 3: Allen do and Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott. He's not
- 9:57Speaker 3: that guy. He's He's not. And it's okay. Will Levinson
- 10:03Speaker 3: isn't that guy either. But I think the NFL is
- 10:06Speaker 3: finally coming up and saying, hey, look, let's stop pretending
- 10:09Speaker 3: Shador Sanders is a starting quarterback in the NFL because
- 10:13Speaker 3: of his last name. He's not a starting quarterback in
- 10:16Speaker 3: the NFL.
- 10:16Speaker 4: No.
- 10:17Speaker 3: It said, and while many around Sanders describe him as
- 10:19Speaker 3: likable and genuinely being of good character, there have also
- 10:22Speaker 3: been sources critical of the preparation at different points and
- 10:26Speaker 3: who have referenced him as being challenging to manage at times,
- 10:29Speaker 3: including last year, for example, when he knew he wasn't
- 10:33Speaker 3: going to be the starter. He just didn't participate. He
- 10:38Speaker 3: just didn't participate. He knew he wasn't going to be
- 10:39Speaker 3: the starter, so he didn't participate, or he was lackluster
- 10:43Speaker 3: in participation in game preparation. You can't have that. You
- 10:47Speaker 3: just can't. And a lot of that is a byproduct
- 10:51Speaker 3: of what he went through at Colorado. You know, if
- 10:55Speaker 3: Deion wants to kick and scream and do all this stuff,
- 10:57Speaker 3: he can kind of look in the mirror and say, hey,
- 10:58Speaker 3: I did this. I did this. We're brought to you

- 13:05Speaker 3: We'll wrap this up on Shador Sanders real quick. As
- 13:09Speaker 3: articles are out here now and opinions from NFL brass
- 13:13Speaker 3: that he's just not a starting quarterback in the NFL.
- 13:17Speaker 3: And he's also a product of the Browns. Let's not
- 13:20Speaker 3: forget that. I mean, their starting quarterback moving forward for
- 13:25Speaker 3: Cleveland is probably still in college, said in this article.
- 13:29Speaker 3: But the Browns have had so many bad, what is it,
- 13:31Speaker 3: we're I've lost count. Over so many years, it was
- 13:35Speaker 3: like 19 or 20, plus you throw in the five here.
- 13:37Speaker 3: I mean, Sanders, Watson, Gabriel, pick a guy. I mean,
- 13:44Speaker 3: I don't know if this franchise is ever going to
- 13:45Speaker 3: get right. I don't know if he's ever. I mean,
- 13:49Speaker 3: here's the thing, and nobody's going to say this out loud.
- 13:51Speaker 3: If I'm one of these quarterbacks, if I'm Darian Mintz
- 13:53Speaker 3: at Miami, Arch Manning at Texas, if I'm Dotsie Moore
- 13:59Speaker 3: at Oregon, Julian Standard at Ohio State, Trinidad Chambliss, I'm
- 14:05Speaker 3: scared to death of getting selected by Cleveland. Something's not
- 14:10Speaker 3: right there. Now, I like Todd Munkin, and I hope
- 14:13Speaker 3: he can get it done there at Cleveland. I mean,
- 14:16Speaker 3: Todd Munkin is– and I almost called him Todd like
- 14:17Speaker 3: I knew him. I don't even know Todd Munkin. I'll
- 14:20Speaker 3: probably never meet the guy, and that's all right. Todd
- 14:23Speaker 3: Munkin seems like a good dude, good football coach by
- 14:26Speaker 3: all accords. Pull in for the guy, like to see
- 14:29Speaker 3: winners win. But, yeah, if you're one of the quarterbacks–
- 14:34Speaker 3: in this 2026 class that will be a part of
- 14:37Speaker 3: the 27 draft, you're scared to death. You're like, I'll
- 14:41Speaker 3: go anywhere except Cleveland. I would even go to Miami.
- 14:45Speaker 3: I don't know if I'd go there. And I love
- 14:47Speaker 3: the Dolphins. Cleveland, though, I don't want to go to
- 14:50Speaker 3: the Cleveland Browns, and I don't want to go to
- 14:51Speaker 3: the New York Jets. I mean, can we trade those
- 14:55Speaker 3: teams out to the UFL and bring two teams up?
- 14:58Speaker 3: All right, Thomas Castellanos, speaking of quarterback, officially joined– this
- 15:02Speaker 3: is wild– This is so wild. There's so many wild
- 15:06Speaker 3: things in college football. Thomas Castellanos, who was at Florida
- 15:10Speaker 3: State last year, and was very marginal. I mean, the
- 15:14Speaker 3: guy's got ability. The guy's got ability. He talks a lot.
- 15:19Speaker 3: He likes to talk about himself. Let me go look
- 15:20Speaker 3: at his stats from last year. Because it was supposed
- 15:23Speaker 3: to be his last year of college football, he left
- 15:28Speaker 3: Boston College and then went over to Florida State.
- 15:32Speaker 2: And....
- 15:34Speaker 3: Thomas Castellanos played in 12 games last year, completed 58.3%
- 15:42Speaker 3: of his passes, 2,760 yards, 15 touchdowns and 9 interceptions, 8.9
- 15:44Speaker 3: yards per attempt. Thomas Castellanos led Florida State in rushing, though,
- 15:47Speaker 3: 137 carries for 557 yards and 9 touchdowns. Now, Florida
- 16:02Speaker 3: State as a team rushed for 2,624 yards. So they
- 16:05Speaker 3: were a 2,500-yard rushing team last year. They didn't have
- 16:09Speaker 3: a dominant back. If you look at Cass Lowness last year,
- 16:14Speaker 3: as a passer in his games, you know, against Alabama,
- 16:21Speaker 3: he was only 9 of 14 for 152 yards, but
- 16:24Speaker 3: he had a big day running the football. His best
- 16:27Speaker 3: passing day of the season... was a loss against Pittsburgh.
- 16:32Speaker 3: That was on October 10th. And then East Texas A
- 16:36Speaker 3: & M week two, he threw three touchdowns. All that
- 16:39Speaker 3: to say is he was very average. I mean, he's
- 16:43Speaker 3: a dual threat guy. Thought he was done. Well, he's not.
- 16:47Speaker 3: He is officially a Texas Tech Red Raider. The former
- 16:50Speaker 3: Florida State quarterback remains eligible under the Big 12's new
- 16:53Speaker 3: pro-athlete rules after attending an NFL minicamp without signing a contract.
- 16:59Speaker 3: positioning himself to back up Will Hammond. Now, here's the thing.
- 17:05Speaker 3: So you ask yourself, why would Texas Tech go after
- 17:09Speaker 3: a very average journeyman like Thomas Castellanos? Because they have nothing.
- 17:16Speaker 3: And now look, this would be a heck of a story.
- 17:19Speaker 3: A heck of a story if Thomas Castellanos, because I
- 17:23Speaker 3: think he may end up middle of the season being
- 17:26Speaker 3: the starting quarterback. If Will Hammond who took a serious
- 17:29Speaker 3: injury last year, I believe to his knee. They feel
- 17:32Speaker 3: like he's, you know, the reports, at least if you
- 17:34Speaker 3: read the reports, whatever reports there are, he's getting back
- 17:38Speaker 3: to healthy. He may end up being the starting quarterback
- 17:42Speaker 3: at Texas Tech. It says former Florida State quarterback Thomas
- 17:45Speaker 3: Castellanos is signed with Texas Tech out of the transfer
- 17:48Speaker 3: portal just days after a Kentucky judge granted a temporary
- 17:51Speaker 3: injunction in an eligibility lawsuit that included Castellanos and former
- 17:56Speaker 3: Missouri basketball standout Mark Mitchell. Because Castellanos has an injunction,
- 18:02Speaker 3: he will not be affected by the new ruling in
- 18:04Speaker 3: the Colorado lawsuit that took away eligibility for qualified athletes
- 18:09Speaker 3: in the class of 2022. And it's key he had
- 18:12Speaker 3: not signed a contract. He was in NFL minicamp, but
- 18:16Speaker 3: had not signed a contract. And that is key when
- 18:20Speaker 3: you start differentiating between Thomas Castellanos and then maybe Lane Kiffin,
- 18:25Speaker 3: who's down here trying to get lawsuits and get everything
- 18:28Speaker 3: up in a tizzy and burn the whole house down.
- 18:30Speaker 3: He says, more importantly, as it relates to his decision
- 18:34Speaker 3: to play for Texas Tech, Castellanos would still be eligible
- 18:37Speaker 3: even after the Big 12 Conference unanimously adopted the rule
- 18:41Speaker 3: barring institutions from fielding professional athletes. The 5'9 Castellanos competed
- 18:47Speaker 3: as a wide receiver during the Miami Dolphins rookie minicamp
- 18:51Speaker 3: in May 2019. But because he went undrafted and did
- 18:53Speaker 3: not sign a contract with Miami, he will be eligible
- 18:56Speaker 3: to play this fall. League spokesperson or league spokespeople told
- 19:01Speaker 3: CBS Sports Richard Johnson, the Big 12 made the announcement
- 19:04Speaker 3: on Wednesday, hours after Castellanos committed to Texas Tech, about
- 19:08Speaker 3: the pro players. So, you know, he'll have an opportunity.
- 19:12Speaker 3: This gives Texas Tech some depth at quarterback. And I
- 19:16Speaker 3: wouldn't be surprised to see him at some point be
- 19:18Speaker 3: the starting quarterback for Texas Tech. 601-885-3776. That is the
- 19:25Speaker 3: Cabo Maloney's text line. You can text us. Call us, 601-897-1059.
- 19:29Speaker 3: The college football NIL market has doubled in two years.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Absolutely doubled in two years. Ben Portnoy, now with Fox Sports,
- 19:41Speaker 3: put a piece out. It says, Ryan Day didn't intend
- 19:43Speaker 3: to be prophetic. It says, while this gathering of boosters
- 19:47Speaker 3: inside the Covelli Center and the of Ohio State's athletics
- 19:52Speaker 3: campus four years ago was about pushing business opportunities for
- 19:56Speaker 3: athletes in the midst of a new world order in
- 19:58Speaker 3: college sports, it offered insight into the changing ecosystem or ecosystem.
- 20:03Speaker 3: The Buckeyes head coach provided the roughly 100 local stakeholders
- 20:07Speaker 3: with An incisive figure, $ 13 million. $ 13 million. This was
- 20:13Speaker 3: back a couple years ago. That's how much name, image,
- 20:17Speaker 3: and likeness money the Buckeyes needed to retain the bulk
- 20:19Speaker 3: of its roster in 2022. Quote, if the speed limit's
- 20:23Speaker 3: 45 miles per hour and you drive 45 miles per hour,
- 20:27Speaker 3: a lot of people are going to pass you by,
- 20:29Speaker 3: they said at the time. If you go too fast,
- 20:32Speaker 3: you're going to get pulled over. Ohio State won the
- 20:34Speaker 3: national championship two years ago. And two years later, its
- 20:40Speaker 3: ballyhooed $ 20 million roster was the talk of college football
- 20:45Speaker 3: and representative of the increasing commercialization of the enterprise. But
- 20:49Speaker 3: with the 2026 campaign set to kick off this weekend
- 20:52Speaker 3: in week zero, that old figure might presently make the
- 20:55Speaker 3: Buckeyes competitive at the high end of the group of six,
- 21:00Speaker 3: let alone the power four. Put that in perspective. Think
- 21:03Speaker 3: about that. What Ohio State won the national championship with
- 21:06Speaker 3: dollar-wise was This year, that's what you're looking at if
- 21:12Speaker 3: you want to be Boise. If you want to be
- 21:14Speaker 3: that group of six teams that's going to possibly make
- 21:16Speaker 3: a push for the college football playoff, that 12th spot,
- 21:19Speaker 3: that last spot, whatever, that's where you're at. Hey, we've

- 22:16Speaker 1: On ESPN 105.9 The Zone and online at TheZone1059.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Com. Taking you in on a Thursday brought to you
- 23:07Speaker 3: by MyBookie.ag. Use the promo code patio. Get in and
- 23:10Speaker 3: play all the games. Rafael Esparza on your radio. Esparza,
- 23:14Speaker 3: how's your Thursday, sir?
- 23:17Speaker 2: Thursday's Thursday. I always tell when it's football season because
- 23:20Speaker 2: Thursday is usually my busiest day for media, busiest days
- 23:25Speaker 2: for MyBookie, busiest days for Doc Sports. So on Thursdays, Thursday, like,
- 23:30Speaker 2: in about 45 minutes, I can guarantee you I'll have
- 23:33Speaker 2: a cocktail in my hand.
- 23:35Speaker 3: There is no doubt. There's no doubt. Yeah, there's a
- 23:38Speaker 3: large slate of FCS games. Let me ask you this.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Do people around the country, is there, you know, maybe
- 23:44Speaker 3: even on a weekend like this weekend where you've got,
- 23:45Speaker 3: you know, some week zero matchups, 7-8-9, do people play
- 23:48Speaker 3: a lot of FCS football?
- 23:51Speaker 2: They're starting to, because don't forget, about three years ago, like,
- 23:54Speaker 2: all the sportsbooks, DraftKings, FanDuel, they finally started putting up
- 23:58Speaker 2: For FCS, normally they would just put the TV games
- 24:00Speaker 2: on there. Now, I tell people to be very cautious
- 24:03Speaker 2: when it comes to FCS games because oddsmakers move these
- 24:07Speaker 2: numbers a lot quicker than they move college football and NFL.
- 24:11Speaker 2: You figure some of these games, I'll just use an example, Illinois,
- 24:15Speaker 2: Eastern Illinois, Murray State. If I bet $ 500 on Murray
- 24:19Speaker 2: State at $ 4. 50, they might move that number to $ 5. 50.
- 24:22Speaker 2: If I bet $ 500 on UNLV versus Memphis, They're not
- 24:27Speaker 2: going to do nothing to that game of $ 500. You
- 24:29Speaker 2: have to be very cautious on line movement when you're
- 24:34Speaker 2: looking at FCS compared to college football and NFL.
- 24:38Speaker 3: And what's the methodology behind that for them moving FCS
- 24:42Speaker 3: on a subsequent amount of money that wouldn't move, like
- 24:44Speaker 3: you said, a Memphis or.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Because they're getting very, very, very few action, and if
- 24:50Speaker 2: they are, they're getting one-side action. So if that Eastern
- 24:54Speaker 2: Illinois Murray State, it's at Murray State, opened up at 2.5.
- 24:58Speaker 2: It's right now 4.5. So you figure all the money
- 25:01Speaker 2: is probably on the home team Murray State. So if
- 25:03Speaker 2: someone wants to bet, let's say, $ 1, 000, $ 500 to $ 1, 000,
- 25:05Speaker 2: and he bets Murray State, they're going to move it
- 25:07Speaker 2: a full point to get 5.5 so they can get
- 25:08Speaker 2: money at Eastern Illinois a lot quicker than they would
- 25:16Speaker 2: if they just moved it a half a point because
- 25:17Speaker 2: you figure FCS home field advantage is probably more heavily
- 25:21Speaker 2: bet-wise than it is for just a normal college football. Again,
- 25:24Speaker 2: Memphis UNLV, a lot of Memphis money coming in. They're
- 25:28Speaker 2: at the Death Star. They're in Las Vegas compared to
- 25:31Speaker 2: Eastern Illinois where they're at Murray State.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Raphael Esparza talking sports gaming on a Thursday. MyBookie.ag used
- 25:37Speaker 3: the promo code patio. All right, so we were talking yesterday,
- 25:40Speaker 3: me and you, about this North Carolina TCU game. It
- 25:42Speaker 3: looks like it's kind of holding serve right now. This
- 25:45Speaker 3: line's moved a couple points this week.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it has. Mostly, like I said, 9.5 is pretty
- 25:50Speaker 2: much out there. But then FanDuel moved it, I think,
- 25:54Speaker 2: maybe an hour ago back to 8.5. So now it's
- 26:00Speaker 2: a perfect middle spot still available. If you want to
- 26:04Speaker 2: take TCU, let's say, at 8.5 because I still think
- 26:08Speaker 2: and me and you both agreed on this last night,
- 26:09Speaker 2: and me and you both agreed on it last week.
- 26:11Speaker 2: This is going to be a solid 10 by Saturday.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Even though one book moved it to 8.5, FanDuel might
- 26:17Speaker 2: have just moved that to try to maybe they got
- 26:20Speaker 2: a heavy bet. Maybe Bill Belichick's girlfriend and sorority all
- 26:24Speaker 2: bet on FanDuel and bet money on North Carolina, which
- 26:27Speaker 2: was trying to get buyback on that. But I still
- 26:30Speaker 2: think TCU is going to be heavily, heavily bet. I
- 26:32Speaker 2: still think if you're going to bet, bet the first half.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Are we underselling, say we, the betting community and maybe
- 26:39Speaker 3: even just people that pick? NC State, I know Virginia
- 26:43Speaker 3: played for the ACC title game last year against Duke.
- 26:46Speaker 3: NC State's been, you know, they kind of had an
- 26:47Speaker 3: off year last year. They've been a solid ACC program.
- 26:50Speaker 3: They're a four-point dog on the road. It feels like
- 26:53Speaker 3: this may be a situation, especially early, where the wrong
- 26:56Speaker 3: team might be favored.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Yeah, this game, for some odd reason, every game on
- 27:01Speaker 2: Saturday's board, this one smells trapped to me. I mean,
- 27:04Speaker 2: this one says, why is Virginia at home not five
- 27:07Speaker 2: and a half close to a six? I don't understand that.
- 27:10Speaker 2: So this is a game that I can't wait to watch.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Like I said, I have a handful of games next
- 27:15Speaker 2: week and this week. I just want to watch and
- 27:18Speaker 2: see why this number is so I can maybe take
- 27:20Speaker 2: notes and maybe look down the road and bet this team.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Maybe because, okay, I saw week zero and how they played.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Maybe this is a team I'm going to play for
- 27:29Speaker 2: now on. This smells fishy, and I don't like fishy
- 27:32Speaker 2: games at week zero.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Robbie, as far as we're talking, week zero, Thursday edition
- 27:37Speaker 3: of the program. All right, so Jacksonville State, Sacramento State,
- 27:41Speaker 3: we talked a little bit about this last night, but
- 27:43Speaker 3: I'm asking you this today. Are you interested in either
- 27:45Speaker 3: one of these teams?
- 27:47Speaker 2: North Dakota State, the brand-new Mountain West team. North Dakota State.
- 27:52Speaker 2: I'm very interested to see what they do because there's
- 27:54Speaker 2: a lot of new teams in the Mountain West that
- 27:56Speaker 2: shouldn't be there. Northern Illinois, what are we talking about?
- 27:59Speaker 2: But North Dakota State, can they hang around with UNLV
- 28:02Speaker 2: and everyone else in the Mountain West?
- 28:04Speaker 3: I'm going to be very.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Interested to see what this North Dakota State, which just
- 28:07Speaker 2: lined open at 10 North Dakota State, and now it's seven,
- 28:12Speaker 2: six and a half out there. So some Jacksonville State
- 28:14Speaker 2: money coming in.
- 28:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't pretend to know about the financial backing
- 28:20Speaker 3: of North Dakota State. We've talked about Sacramento State and
- 28:22Speaker 3: the money coming out there in Sacramento, California. But North
- 28:25Speaker 3: Dakota State, a very proud program, obviously coming out of
- 28:27Speaker 3: the FCS. They've won titles. They've been competitive. You would
- 28:31Speaker 3: think that taste that they have in their mouth, so
- 28:34Speaker 3: to speak, for victory. I'll be interested to see what
- 28:37Speaker 3: they do moving forward as far as money that they
- 28:39Speaker 3: put into NIL, money that they put into facilities. and
- 28:42Speaker 3: how big a player North Dakota State possibly could become
- 28:45Speaker 3: in the next five to ten years.
- 28:47Speaker 2: I agree with you. I did an interview for a
- 28:49Speaker 2: Mountain West conference, I think it was last weekend, and
- 28:52Speaker 2: I talked about North Dakota State, even if they weren't
- 28:54Speaker 2: in the Mountain West, they still get people that want
- 28:56Speaker 2: to go there because they've won there. It doesn't matter
- 28:59Speaker 2: if it was not Division I, but they still won championships.
- 29:03Speaker 2: It doesn't matter what school you go to, you still
- 29:05Speaker 2: play for championships. So it's going to be very interesting.
- 29:07Speaker 2: I think they recruit well now that they're in the
- 29:09Speaker 2: Mountain West because they're I think they're going to be
- 29:11Speaker 2: better than Hawaii. I don't think they're going to be
- 29:13Speaker 2: better than New Mexico and UNLV, but I have them
- 29:16Speaker 2: maybe coming in third place in the Mountain West, maybe beating,
- 29:20Speaker 2: I'll play in Hawaii and Wyoming, UTEP, San Jose State.
- 29:24Speaker 2: I'm just getting a school. Oh, Northern Illinois. So I
- 29:27Speaker 2: think they're going to be better than those schools.
- 29:29Speaker 3: And, of course, the nightcap, UNLV, Memphis, UNLV minus four
- 29:34Speaker 3: and a half. Dan Mullen says he's going to play
- 29:36Speaker 3: two quarterbacks. This will be interesting on several accords. Dan Mullen,
- 29:40Speaker 3: is a guy that a lot of publications feel like
- 29:42Speaker 3: if he has the right kind of year, he could
- 29:44Speaker 3: be back in the FBS next year with a job opening. Memphis,
- 29:48Speaker 3: they have a new coach. Memphis has gone through a
- 29:50Speaker 3: couple coaches now with Charles Huff who should continue that success.
- 29:55Speaker 3: I mean, this is not your grandfather's Memphis where they
- 29:57Speaker 3: were a 2-10 ball team every year. They're very competitive.
- 30:00Speaker 3: I'm very interested in this ballgame.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Yeah, even though Memphis has a lot of new faces,
- 30:05Speaker 2: especially on defense, but you know what? They have a
- 30:08Speaker 2: running back that went to the Ohio State, and I
- 30:11Speaker 2: think they're going to be able to run the ball.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Memphis always runs the ball. It doesn't matter who they
- 30:16Speaker 2: have in the backfield. And if they can run on UNLV,
- 30:19Speaker 2: I think they can put some points on the board.
- 30:21Speaker 2: That's why I think we see a lot of points
- 30:22Speaker 2: scored on this one. Puzzling that this total drops two points.
- 30:27Speaker 2: opened up at 58-and-a-half, now 56-and-a-half. I like UNLV. I
- 30:31Speaker 2: still think they go with Sam Arnold, the old Auburn quarterback.
- 30:36Speaker 2: I think he has majority of the snaps. But I
- 30:38Speaker 2: think it's going to be a lot closer game.
- 30:40Speaker 3: What else is going on this weekend?
- 30:43Speaker 2: College Football Week Zero. Championship Little League World Series. That's
- 30:47Speaker 2: enough said. I mean, yes, we have UFC Japan. I
- 30:49Speaker 2: think at 6 in the morning. Can't believe I have
- 30:52Speaker 2: to watch MMA still drinking coffee, but that's going to
- 30:54Speaker 2: be interesting. But It's college football week zero.
- 30:57Speaker 3: Hey, who's favorite to win the Little League World Series?
- 31:02Speaker 2: I think right now I think the International. They had
- 31:04Speaker 2: some really good showings yesterday and today, so it's going
- 31:07Speaker 2: to be very interesting to see if the U.S. can
- 31:09Speaker 2: go back-to-back. They won last year.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Hey, make sure to find him on VSL.Sports. You can
- 31:14Speaker 3: get him on Instagram. You can get him on TikTok.
- 31:16Speaker 3: He's everywhere. He's Rafael Esparza. Esparza, have a great weekend.
- 31:19Speaker 3: We talk next week. We'll have a load of games
- 31:21Speaker 3: to talk about.
- 31:23Speaker 2: Take it easy. Have a good weekend.
- 31:24Speaker 3: All right. See you. Rafael Esparza, mybookie.ag. Patio is the
- 31:27Speaker 3: promo code. Back in a moment.
- 31:29Speaker 5: It's time to get back in the game with Jake
- 31:31Speaker 5: Wimberly and the Afternoon Drive.
- 31:33Speaker 1: That's entertainment. On the station that specializes in the Mississippi
- 31:36Speaker 1: sports you love. Now we're talking. Live and local on
- 31:39Speaker 1: ESPN 105.9 The Zone and online at TheZone1059. com.
- 32:08Speaker 3: Appreciate Raphael Esparza jumping in, talking a little sports gaming
- 32:11Speaker 3: on week zero. We're brought to you by Ranco Transmission,
- 32:13Speaker 3: 1460 Old Brandon Road in Flowood, 601-939-9184. 53 plus years
- 32:19Speaker 3: for domestic transmission repair. Also, thanks to Michael Katz. We'll
- 32:22Speaker 3: be out of here after this segment, but back at
- 32:24Speaker 3: 6 o'clock for your Heinz Eagle pregame show at 6.
- 32:28Speaker 3: And kick is at 6.30. We'll have Heinz versus Etiwama
- 32:31Speaker 3: tonight right here on The Zone. We'll be in Tupelo tomorrow. So, again,
- 32:35Speaker 3: you're ready for a lot of high school football action tomorrow.
- 32:38Speaker 3: from Tupelo and the Blue Turf, as we'll broadcast there tomorrow.
- 32:42Speaker 3: All right, a man is charged with posing as a
- 32:45Speaker 3: San Francisco 49er wide receiver to con at least 26
- 32:49Speaker 3: women out of over $ 1. 3 million. Authorities have charged a
- 32:55Speaker 3: man who pretended to be a San Francisco 49ers wide
- 32:58Speaker 3: receiver with defrauding over two dozen women out of over $ 1. 3 million.
- 33:03Speaker 3: The Department of Justice reported that authorities arrested Dajon Labre...
- 33:08Speaker 3: Is it? Yeah, Dejan Labre Love, 35, and his alleged
- 33:13Speaker 3: accomplice Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, at a Boise, Idaho airport.
- 33:18Speaker 3: According to a federal complaint filed in Portland, Oregon, prosecutors
- 33:22Speaker 3: charged the two men with wire fraud and conspiracy to
- 33:26Speaker 3: commit wire fraud. Quote, the scheme relied on Love's creation
- 33:30Speaker 3: of a fictitious persona and display of a lavish lifestyle
- 33:37Speaker 3: which Love realized presented to victims both in person and
- 33:41Speaker 3: on social media websites. The U.S. Attorney's Office said in
- 33:44Speaker 3: a statement, quote, Love convinced many of these victims they
- 33:47Speaker 3: were in sincere romantic relationships with Love, that he was
- 33:51Speaker 3: a sophisticated investor, and that Chan was his investment advisor
- 33:57Speaker 3: who helped Love grow a fortune worth tens of millions
- 34:01Speaker 3: of dollars. Now, this is the first I've read of this.
- 34:05Speaker 2: I don't.
- 34:05Speaker 3: It doesn't say this yet, but I would guarantee you
- 34:07Speaker 3: that these guys probably acted like they were crypto bros, right?
- 34:13Speaker 3: I mean, if I had to guess. They had a
- 34:14Speaker 3: fake Instagram account that made it look like he was
- 34:17Speaker 3: a 49ers football player, the San Francisco 49ers. On Instagram,
- 34:20Speaker 3: Love showcased himself as a wide receiver for the San
- 34:23Speaker 3: Francisco 49ers. He claimed he was not selected in the
- 34:26Speaker 3: NFL draft, but eventually made the team as a free agent.
- 34:30Speaker 3: The Los Angeles Times reports that In an Instagram story
- 34:35Speaker 3: titled NFL Journey, Love held a 49ers helmet while driving
- 34:40Speaker 3: and said, I'm on my way to get my mom.
- 34:42Speaker 3: I know I get a lot of fans who want
- 34:45Speaker 3: to know how football works or how I got involved
- 34:47Speaker 3: in the league. If you know me and see me
- 34:50Speaker 3: in person, I'll explain. I chose San Francisco because it
- 34:54Speaker 3: was the right time. I was kind of already living
- 34:57Speaker 3: in the Bay, and it just worked out for me.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Holy mother of world. So what kind of women... I
- 35:05Speaker 3: got so many questions about this story, and I'm looking
- 35:07Speaker 3: at this guy's Instagram account. He's got somewhere around 7,000 followers,
- 35:13Speaker 3: and he's got some photos, just normal photos. He's got
- 35:17Speaker 3: some guy, looks like he played in college, a photo
- 35:21Speaker 3: of that, some post-up pictures on some cars. He does
- 35:24Speaker 3: have a 49ers helmet. Of course, you can get that anywhere.
- 35:27Speaker 3: It goes on to say, love romantically involved himself. with
- 35:31Speaker 3: many of the alleged victims, and he expressed his desire
- 35:34Speaker 3: to build wealth and a future with them. Love promoted
- 35:37Speaker 3: investment entities that didn't exist and said they would yield
- 35:41Speaker 3: enormous profits for both him and his victims. Additionally, Love
- 35:45Speaker 3: created fake bank and investment accounts and balances using phone applications,
- 35:51Speaker 3: which he presented to the victims in order to legalize
- 35:53Speaker 3: the scam. Chan also claimed to serve as Love's investor.
- 35:59Speaker 3: investment advisor in online investment-related communications. Quote, once victims had
- 36:04Speaker 3: no more money to invest or if they asked too
- 36:07Speaker 3: many questions, Love blocked communication with them but kept their money.
- 36:12Speaker 3: The U.S. Attorney's Office continued, quote, one of the victims
- 36:14Speaker 3: identified and interviewed, none reported receiving any proceeds, returns on
- 36:21Speaker 3: their principal or investment account information after sending Love and
- 36:25Speaker 3: Chan money. Financial records show Love and Chan received about $ 1. 3
- 36:29Speaker 3: million from victim investors. 26 victims have been identified, and
- 36:34Speaker 3: the FBI believes there are many more victims. What a
- 36:37Speaker 3: story this is. I mean, and it's an elaborate story, too, right?
- 36:42Speaker 3: You think about it. Two guys get together. Says, hey,
- 36:45Speaker 3: I'm going to pose as a San Francisco 49er. I
- 36:47Speaker 3: didn't get drafted. I chose San Francisco. It was the
- 36:51Speaker 3: right time. I just have to wonder about the women involved.
- 36:54Speaker 3: that obviously he was good at identifying weak women, weak-minded women.
- 37:01Speaker 3: And I don't mean that in a misogynistic way. I mean,
- 37:03Speaker 3: it's true. I mean, most well-put-together women are not going
- 37:07Speaker 3: to fall for a scam like this. And then why
- 37:09Speaker 3: would you give this guy the money? Because odds are
- 37:11Speaker 3: they probably never even met the guy in person. I mean,
- 37:14Speaker 3: he may have met a couple just to kind of
- 37:17Speaker 3: make it legitimate. The 12 hardest places to play in
- 37:20Speaker 3: all of American sports. Let's go through a list here.
- 37:23Speaker 3: Put together. Tiger Stadium LSU is one, and we know
- 37:28Speaker 3: how hard it is. Literally nicknamed Death Valley. Tiger Stadium
- 37:31Speaker 3: creates one of the loudest environments in all of sports.
- 37:34Speaker 3: Beaver Stadium at Penn State, the land of Happy Valley.
- 37:38Speaker 3: Opposing teams are usually anything but. Beaver Stadium annually hosts
- 37:41Speaker 3: one of the most iconic nights in American sports, the, quote, whiteout.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Cameron Indoor Stadium, Duke. We know how hard it is
- 37:49Speaker 3: and has been for decades to play there. Allen Fieldhouse
- 37:52Speaker 3: in Kansas. We're talking college basketball. The inventor of basketball
- 37:56Speaker 3: was once a coach at the university, so there's an
- 37:59Speaker 3: expectation to defend his territory. Madison Square Gardens, the New
- 38:03Speaker 3: York Knicks, and that's been a revived place since the
- 38:06Speaker 3: resurgence of the Knicks in the NBA. Golden One Center,
- 38:11Speaker 3: Sacramento Kings. It says, if you haven't heard of the
- 38:14Speaker 3: crowd pop from Kevin Hueter's lead-taking three against the Jazz
- 38:20Speaker 3: in a regular season game, you can't comment on this pick.
- 38:23Speaker 3: The The light, the beam, the culture has absolutely supercharged
- 38:26Speaker 3: this place recently, and fans have shown out for a
- 38:29Speaker 3: team that has not had much on-court success. The steep
- 38:33Speaker 3: seating and tight acoustics makes this arena extremely loud and
- 38:37Speaker 3: tough to step into. Century Bell, Montreal Canadiens. I'm going
- 38:41Speaker 3: to pass on this. I don't know anything about hockey,
- 38:43Speaker 3: so I'm just going to believe that this is true. Also,
- 38:46Speaker 3: Livono Center, Carolina Hurricanes. I'm going to pass on that
- 38:49Speaker 3: one as well. Fenway Park, Boston Red Sox. We know
- 38:52Speaker 3: when the Sox are hot how hard this place is
- 38:55Speaker 3: to play. It has been for decades in baseball. Oracle Park,
- 38:59Speaker 3: the San Francisco Giants. You could say the same thing
- 39:01Speaker 3: about that park and the Giants. When they've had really
- 39:06Speaker 3: good teams, that's been a tough place to go into.
- 39:08Speaker 3: Lambeau Field, Green Bay Packers. And let's see here. Also,
- 39:13Speaker 3: Lumen Field, Seattle Seahawks. As they hold a sign up,
- 39:17Speaker 3: it says Louder 12s. So that's always... It seems like
- 39:21Speaker 3: a tough place to play in the National Football League.
- 39:23Speaker 3: We do appreciate Rafael Esparza, and we appreciate Michael Katz
- 39:27Speaker 3: jumping in again. We'll be back with you tomorrow on Friday.
- 39:30Speaker 3: We'll have Heinz football for you coming up here in
- 39:32Speaker 3: a little over an hour. 6 o'clock pregame show coming
- 39:36Speaker 3: your way. Let me grab some notes real quick here
- 39:37Speaker 3: while we've got about one minute. If you're just joining us,
- 39:40Speaker 3: just some notes that are out there. Let's see here.
- 39:44Speaker 3: South Carolina's Shane Beamer continues to clown himself. As he
- 39:48Speaker 3: tells Chris Lowe, quote, there's a very quiet confidence on
- 39:50Speaker 3: this team heading into the season. Quote, we showed in
- 39:53Speaker 3: 2024 that we can accomplish everything here. And again, I
- 39:58Speaker 3: want to continue to say this. In 2024, they went 9-4.
- 40:01Speaker 3: They didn't even play for the Southeastern Conference. They played
- 40:05Speaker 3: in a mid-level bowl game. What is he talking about?
- 40:07Speaker 3: What did they accomplish? Shane Beamer is an idiot. Hey, remember,
- 40:12Speaker 3: ketchup is king, bacon's a delicacy, aloha means goodbye. Be
- 40:14Speaker 3: a man of increase. We've reached the crescendo for this show.
- 40:17Speaker 3: See you in an hour. We'll have Heinz Eagle football
- 40:19Speaker 3: for you tonight. Back in a bit.
