Transcript
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Three Yards Perkati, a podcast covering the Miami Dolphins and the NFL.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: Now, here's your host, Chris, Alf, and Simon.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: And we're on, and this is Three Yards Perkari, and we are in the Eve.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's Friday, and a joint practice just happened.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: So we are in the Eve of a preseason game that's gonna take place on Sunday at one PM.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: Those are very, very rare.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: but they're happening now in the NFL.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, there's two games on Sunday at regular schedule.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: So just puts them back on a regular schedule.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of preseason football tonight, a lot more tomorrow.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe we'll talk a little bit about it because one of the dolphins opponent, namely week one opponent, the Indianapolis Colts might have a shake up at quarterback, although the latest report is that, no, Anthony Richardson will be back at practice on Saturday.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: So he was pulled from the game against the Ravens because he injured his pinky, but he is now okay.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, it's been very, very fun on Twitter, very, very fun on our discord.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: And if you want to become a member of our discord, you want to participate in the fund.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: You got to go to discord.gg forward slash only fins and you become a member of their all access for for ninety nine a month.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: You just want to read the happenings.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's two ninety nine a month.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: Remember to do it on a desktop or a laptop avoid the apple charges.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, let's get into this.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: depending on how you listen to.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: Basically, depending on if you listen to anybody at all, it was an absolute clusterfuck in Chicago today.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: Both offenses were terrible.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: Duffin offense was really terrible.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: What did you take from all of the reports when I did get from all of the reports and we're gonna look let's not bury the lead Jordan Brooks is causing havoc on the sideline and I already said it before the show put an E on his chest for emperor instead of captain love this guy I'm pretty sure we're gonna get into it
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: But what do you make of all the reports that came out of joint practice today against the Chicago Bears?
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: Simon.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, so much to go out.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, look, I am let's touch on the fight because I think that's really important actually.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I think if they were the Eagles or they were the Packers or they were the
- 2:28[SPEAKER_02]: Chargers or the lions and there was a fight I don't think it would be a care too much about two players fighting themselves.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: I'll just be clear it was two dolphins players fight themselves Jordan Brooks and and and as yet unidentified other player now seen some rumors that it's Terrell Dodson, but I don't know who is
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: The concern for me, Chris, I think, is that we are in an era where the Dolphins culture is being questioned.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's being questioned by the people that have been around it in the media, but also players who were there last season, coaches talked about it.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_02]: The court came out and talked about its relationship with the number one wireless receiver.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: to Ron Armsley was talking about it last week and to Ron on his podcast made a very interesting, I can't remember what the word was, but he used a very specific word to describe what a confrontation, he used a word confrontations last season.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think if this was the Detroit Lions or the Green Mope Hackers, anybody would really care.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: But I do think in an era and a time where culture is being questioned, the head coach is being questioned for the way that he handles the team to have two players fighting
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: on a side line is probably not the ideal narrative Chris that you want to kind of be your day one takeaway on top of the sharpness of the offense.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: Before before Chris gets in here a little bit of context historically about players fighting other players.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: Michael Jordan knocked out.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: Future Hall of Fame had coached my Steve Kerr on the sideline before the NBA finals before they won their sixth NBA finals.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_02]: Can you take away there as before they won their sixth finals?
- 4:00[SPEAKER_02]: This is not a team that is close to winning six finals.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: I'd also obviously that Jordan team was not a team that had a narrative around it about a cultural issue.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: That's the thing that people will jump on it.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it's a problem necessarily if you're a team that doesn't have question marks about culture.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_02]: We have significant culture question marks about this team.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: So you're saying that Jordan Brooks is not Michael Jordan.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, it's not a badge.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's not about the individuals.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's just about the fact that two teammates on the same team, of a team that's having a culture, question mark about it, getting involved in a fight in Chicago is not a good look when people are saying, what about like I saw Lewis Ridic last night asking a question of somebody who was it?
- 4:47[SPEAKER_02]: I can't remember who it was.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_02]: But asking a question about what's the culture like?
- 4:50[SPEAKER_02]: Has there been any culture down?
- 4:51[SPEAKER_02]: I might have been to an answer actually, about what have you seen about the culture changes?
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: You know, when nationally well renowned and we all like Lewis relate, when people like that are asking questions as well, it's like, okay, what we probably don't need in the next twelve hours is to a room play his punch in each other in the face.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: People's assessment and understanding of the culture because that's not necessarily a culturally good look Chris, at least that's my takeaway.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, speaking of Toronto, he was on there on the premises.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: He broke up the fight, I think.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: No, he broke up a different fight between BS for each and one of the best defensive backs him and Mike McDaniel, apparently piled in and broke that fight up.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_03]: Didn't I read?
- 5:35[SPEAKER_03]: Didn't I read that he also helped carry somebody else?
- 5:39[SPEAKER_02]: Who carried Jack Jones?
- 5:41[SPEAKER_02]: Jack Jones after Jack Jones.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: And then Jack Jones, evidently tweeted from the sidelines.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was just a crap.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate it.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you folks.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_02]: Probably don't want to have your phone on the sidelines, Jack.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_03]: It's all about context.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, if this is the Baltimore Ravens during the, you know, some of their championship runs and you're, you're talking about like, Ed Reed and Ray Lewis getting in people's faces, maybe even throwing punches and maybe, you know, and really fighting and trying to get themselves, you know, in line.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_03]: And then that's one thing and people are going to look at it one way.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_03]: If this is the New York Jets in mid-debt nation under Robert, you know, Sally, then it looks a different way, you know?
- 6:29[SPEAKER_03]: And that's the, that's the danger with the Miami dolphins you're trying to, you know, are you looking at a half, four or half empty in this case?
- 6:36[SPEAKER_03]: Because clearly, I think Jordan Brooks is trying to change the culture.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_03]: And I think, I don't think that fights the coincidence.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_03]: I think that he is trying to
- 6:47[SPEAKER_03]: He's trying to get misty made spaces and hold them to a high standard.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_03]: Remember, he's the one that called them that that called themselves.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_03]: You know, last year, he's one of the came right out and he's like, you know, yeah, yeah, maybe there's some truth to that.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_03]: You know, he's a guy, he's a guy that that can hold everybody up.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_03]: to a standard, or at least he's going to try to.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_03]: And whether it takes or not is really what we have to see as the season goes up.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_03]: But that's how I interpret it is, you know, listen.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_03]: We need to not accept mediocrity.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_03]: We need to not accept, you know, doing the wrong thing, you know, get your ship together and play your assignment.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_03]: And if it comes to blows, because then it comes to blows, but somebody needs to step up into that leadership void.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_03]: Kalea's Campbell's not there and you know some some other guys are not on the team anymore to run arms that I guess he is still there but which is which is not great by the way hate to interrupt you but he looks fabulous like he's lost at least a hundred pounds at least he said he lost like eighty or something like that yeah it looks fabulous he looks great look great
- 8:02[SPEAKER_03]: But so yeah, it's it's about the context, you know, which are you on the way up or you on the way down.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_03]: And that's what we got to find out as a season goes on.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_03]: But you know, the as for the practice, you know, I think we have to kind of admit that at least from the people that were there, including Chicago reporters, not just, you know, the Miami locals.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_03]: It sounded like it sounded like a real button in a lot of ways.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_03]: It sounded like a real reality check.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, my take on that is that that's probably more good than bad.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_03]: I think that if you're trying to evaluate your team's chances by by looking at joint practices.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_03]: during training camp then good luck with that because if that were the case then you know would be the the commanders who won only eight games last year and the dolphins who won fourteen.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_03]: and you know, but that clearly didn't happen.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, for was like that.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_03]: Remember when the Eagles did a joint practice against the dolphins and the dolphins dominated so much that Jason Kelsey and the Eagles players are like, man, they're going, they're going to Super Bowl.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: The funny thing about that is that the Eagles actually went to the Super Bowl.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the Eagles did.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: And the dolphins didn't.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: And the dolphins were good.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: They wouldn't love in games.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe, maybe what that practice was showing is that they were going to be okay.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_03]: so joint practices are not for evaluation joint practices are for reality check and i would have been i would have actually been a little bit more concerned if i felt like after joint practices you know this week next week they're going to have i think three of them this year
- 9:38[SPEAKER_03]: If they walked out of those sinking further into delusion, that would concern me a lot more.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_03]: They needed to be knocked in the dirt a little bit.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_02]: There's a video I've just found on Twitter of the fight, but the person recording it is either blind.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_02]: or they don't know how to use a phone because you can't really see.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_02]: And then they kind of shoot in the wrong direction just at the critical moment.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_02]: But he has been walked, Brooks has been walked off by a think-winker and is actually at, and I think it's fifty-seven that he's fighting with.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_02]: I think, but he can't quite tell.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: If it's fifty-seven, it's day one, Jones.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's not just...
- 10:21[SPEAKER_03]: Dequan Jackson in me.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_03]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_03]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_03]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_03]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_02]: Dequan Jackson.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: I wanted to ask you guys what do you guys make a Joe Barry like usually there's a little bit entry and let's face it there is no entry we know who's starting to why receivers are we know Westbrook a keenies probably gonna be where receiver three with Malik Washington mixed in so we kind of know where these guys are slotted in but what do you make a Joe Barry saying not not Dodson and Brooks are talk to guys and with a gay will play as the third guy that's the pecking order and it's done there is no competition
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I mean, they're clean, like Dodson, they like to clean like his body of work at the back end of last season, and they kind of liked what he's done in the off season.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think gay has been one of the kind of the highlights of the practice of Frenny Camp, but you know, he's kind of a nice guy to bring on on sub-package situations in terms of bringing a bit of energy, special teams energy, blitzes, he's got the athletic ability.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_02]: I wonder if he quite has the requisite football brain,
- 11:48[SPEAKER_02]: And there were times I think sometimes with the chiefs, I did wonder whether or not he'd quite had the brain to fulfill what's back, no little one, too.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_02]: He was a bit of an ex-factor, especially coming down hill, making tackles out towards the perimeter on the side, you know, kind of at or behind the line of the screenage, but sometimes he just got caught a little bit kind of, he chases, he's like a dog with a new smell, he kind of chases every kind of smell, and sometimes the smell goes in the opposite direction.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: I do wonder if Dodson's just a little bit more sort of, you know,
- 12:15[SPEAKER_02]: within the construct of the defense perhaps.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_02]: So that was kind of my takeaway.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: But what he gave is not a bad substitute to have his year number three live actor.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: And that's, you know, he's going to play, he's going to make tackles, he's going to hit some people, he's going to get people fired up, he's going to super bowl.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, if you're looking for culture changes, then, you know, sign me up for some really gay, I like him coming out.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_02]: I like to be Kansas City, and I thought it was a good sign for the dolphin.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_02]: So, when he plays, I think he'll make an impact.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_03]: That's what makes it a little bit questionable for me.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_03]: To declare it.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, this story is weird.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, because let's let's be honest.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_03]: I think I think people haven't necessarily been completely honest with themselves about Tyrell Dodson and the fact that he got to Miami Dolphins, you know, kind of mid year after.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he was David Long and Seattle, right?
- 13:06[SPEAKER_03]: Like he was a captain heading into the season and cut before the end of the season.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_03]: You know, and the dolphins grabbed him and he started, I believe, three games.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_03]: He did make some plays in those games and that's really exciting.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_03]: But the body of work, I don't, I think people are kind of like a little delusional about the body of work.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_03]: In my Amy Dolphins uniform in this this defensive system.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot more to be seen about him.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and and so to sit sit there and and declare that he is definitely the starter.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_03]: There's no competition, you know, stuff like that.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_03]: Between he and a guy who is out there.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_03]: You know, showing energy and bustling is button making plays throughout every single day of camp.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_03]: You just hear people just falling over willy yet.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_03]: That is questionable to me.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_03]: That may have the effect of actually making some players feel like this is, you know, this is not a team that values competition as much as they say.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think Willie Gay sure to a hundred percent be in competition for that job with Tyrell Dodson.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_03]: Because I don't know what the hell Tyrell Dodson has proven that makes you say, you know, oh, yeah, this is, this is our, you know, this is our exact time.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean like this is this is.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: Well he does he does average you like you like per thirty six numbers in NBA right press Yeah, he average is seventeen interceptions per season.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: That's a matter of you talking Yeah, you know do that on a person app basis.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_03]: That's any more.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure Yeah, it's like thirty You know, but yeah, I completely agree with you like it's gotten to the point where we had an availability We will decay and one of the first questions like what do you have to do to get an orange jersey?
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: And what do you guys like?
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: It might be political around here.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: Why people get orange jersey.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't like that answer by the way, because that answer tends to, you know, I don't know, it flies in the face of what the orange jersey supposed to be.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the gay has been nothing but a revelation and look, the energy he brings to every single practice and he's making plays every single practice.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: you know and it's not like he's playing against the bombs he's he's every once in all the sprinkled in into into first team and he makes plays against first team as well so yeah he has to play like but Simon's point is very relevant though that you know there was always so there's hey listen this is the guy that's um that is
- 15:44[SPEAKER_03]: very, very highly talented.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we mentioned how athletic he came out.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_03]: He should have been a first round pick, but he wasn't.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_03]: He was a sixty-third overall pick.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_03]: You know, he should have been consistent starter and, you know, the guy in Kansas City just based on talent and the plays that he can make, but there was always something getting in the way there.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_03]: He should have gotten a big contract when he became a free agent, but instead he got a one year free million dollar deal with the New Orleans Saints.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_03]: And the Saints didn't even play him in a position or in roles that were favorable to him.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_03]: He should be making more than the veteran's minimum amount of one year deal in Miami, but he's not.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_03]: so there's something there and so there's a lot that we don't necessarily know that they probably could know about what he's not doing or what he's not executing and what you know what assignments he's he is blowing and stuff like that there's a lot of room for that there is definitely a lot of room for that I still just don't like declaring that over you know like that's I'm sorry but
- 16:51[SPEAKER_03]: I don't, you know, who, who penciled in Tyrell dots and as, as, you know, an unquestioned starter after being, similarly dismissed by Seattle the way he was in a similar defense, by the way.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_02]: Should I tell you what I'm over today?
- 17:07[SPEAKER_02]: And that is the Dolphins offense.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_02]: My god, that sounded like a, um, not a good day.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, just, just shit.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, really bad.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_02]: And look, we talked about this on Discord.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not actually that bothered about drawing practices like, you know, it's, it's a nice opportunity to hit somebody else using your teammate.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_02]: But I will say throwing three picks when their best corner is not playing two fun balls.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_02]: And the thing that really seems to be a massive problem.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_02]: is the full starts and that was really covered by the bears beat riders.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_02]: You said there were just so many like pre-snap penalties and you know, look, let's get them out the way now.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_02]: That's absolutely fine.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_02]: But this is a holdover of a couple of years, a kind of pre-snap staffer.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously, new start and left tackle, new start and left guard, new starting right guard, you know, Westbrookicini coming in, Ferro Brown, if he's a start or a tie in Madison on the field.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_02]: Lots of new people trying to get that timing down and that timing is the such a key to this offense.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_02]: But that is like a concern.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_02]: to me is that, you know, we just looked so La Fargey, I think on our friends, and I think I picked up especially from the Bezbeat Rires, was two of us throwing to spots as we know that he does, but the receivers were getting really roughed up and not able to get to the spots that he was throwing to, because they were getting pressed at the line of screen range, they were getting out physicaled.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_02]: That, that, you know, that feels like something else teams are gonna start to do a little bit more.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: If they know that these guys can't get off the line, is to try and, you know, cause two of them killed teams by throwing spots because of just that fantastic, unaccuracy and timing delivery.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_02]: That's gonna be something that the teams look out for as we move forward.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: And look, you don't show your whole bag, you don't show your whole game plan, obviously, in the joint practice.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, some, some questions, I think as we head into, head into the game in a sweet kid,
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: You think?
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know the left tackle who's looked so good in practice getting put in his ass by day of being born his very first one the one probably not the best way I didn't really care about that when I cared about that it was a flagged fest afterwards and I wouldn't like the little bit more elaboration like are these holes or are these illegal hands to the face which tend to happen in one to one be one and I want to listen to some of that
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, by the way, we're good news on Jonah Savania.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: He left practice toward the end of practice.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: Suppose he told somebody, I'm just fine.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: I just sat out the last rep of practice.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, Jack Jones.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like he tweeted, like I'm he tweeted a two forty nine p.m.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm looking at it.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: Let me look at my little schedule here.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like practice ended.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, so yeah, he went.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: He did this from the locker room.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because practice ended at two, fifteen.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: So he had about thirty minutes to tweet this.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: And he puts first while he makes a comment on Twitter, like everybody's own negative on here, like Jesus Christ.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: And the second one was, yeah, it was just a crap.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate it.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_01]: So, so he's fine.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we're gonna go to break and we come back.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna talk about a few of the battles that they're having.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_01]: We've talked about this joint practice and we might even preview this game on Sunday.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: What do we want to see?
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: Because there's rumblings out there on Twitter that Mike McDaniel may be, I guess, reevaluating what happened today and maybe these guys play on Sunday?
- 20:19[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, but first, these words.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Jaylin Phillips and you're listening to three yards per chair.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: All right, and we're back.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to start right here.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_01]: I posted a study on our discord.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: Again, discord.gg forward slash only fins.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_01]: You become a member of their all access for four or ninety nine a month.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: I posted a study that
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: The floor had coach of the the Green Bay Packers alluded to where he's actually going to play his starters a lot of snaps in this preseason because it tends to you know tends to mitigate some of the injuries that you get in the beginning of this season which would mean of course the Dolphins should play their starters every single snap of preseason
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: But what do you make of this and then what do you make of the I guess subtle?
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's not really a jab.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like a subtle hint that Mike McDaniel is going to evaluate who is starting on Sunday and who is playing on Sunday?
- 21:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think the, the Bengals kind of showed the way yesterday.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: They played all their starters in an entire first quarter.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: Your thoughts for this game on Sunday.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: Simon, what would you do?
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think they'll do?
- 21:24[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I would play style.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think that it shows when the season starts, especially for a team that is
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: So dependent on timing, I think the amount of work you can do, even if it's the first court, these guys could get injured falling over in the shower, that he gets injured in a practice, that he gets injured in a walkthrough, I'm exaggerating, but you know, I know there was an injury risk, but I'd rather an injury risk than going out weak on against Indianapolis and having seven full starts and all the different stuff because we haven't worked on it.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_02]: Paying the first score, if Jamar Chase and Joe Barrow and Teahagans can pay the first score, there's no reason why we can't, because we just sucked offensively, or practiced against one of the worst teams in the league.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_02]: We need to go out there, and I can set a tone.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_02]: Not to the rest of the NFL, not to the cults, not to the bears, just to ourselves.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_02]: Just to say, okay, that has to be a standard, and Jordan Brooks is clearly trying to set a standard on defense.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_02]: Whether we agree the way that you went about it is one thing, but you know, if our biggest takeaway if we go and let's say that two of us don't play, you know, Zach Wilson plays a quarter and then Quinn Lewis plays three quarters.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, what do you really learn about what's going to happen in the first week of the regular season?
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: We're not playing four preseason games anymore with playing three.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: You know, these joint practices kind of take away from a preseason game and they've happened more and more over the last few years.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_02]: To me, I play them a chord, just get them out, they get them reps, get them mental reps, as much as anything, especially when you've got so many new guys, we touched up on it earlier on.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_02]: So many new guys on offense, they need those repetitions.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_02]: Might have done a talk last year about some of the timing, so that literally two are like a thousand hours of practice to get timing down, like, you know, but we're less on the field and in the classroom as it were.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_02]: These guys, the seven eyes and the, you know, you ask in Chinese seven eyes to learn a completely new position.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_02]: You know, this is a guy was essentially for the most part, a tackle in college, just he paid some dad, but he also paid a lot of tackle certainly in his final season.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like this sort of stuff is going to take time, let them pay some, let them pay some football.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_02]: That's what they're there to do Chris.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think that they should, they should be looking to make things as hard as they can because they need to start the season out hot.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's a really important thing for them this year.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_03]: And so, you know, kind of going easy on themselves in training camp or, you know, our training camp preseason is not a great option.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_03]: You know, last year they started out the opposite of hot and I know that everybody wants to blame that onto his injury, but you know,
- 23:58[SPEAKER_03]: for as much as the backup quarterbacks went what like one and three to start out or during the four games that to a missed you know what to a did in his first four games he started off one and three to you know so I mean that's that's a bad start that's a bad start whether you want to blame the injury to or whether you know don't want to blame the injury to to and they can't afford that particularly if we're in this situation where we kind of need the winning to cure all
- 24:28[SPEAKER_03]: You know, um, people have pointed out that, you know, you've got some leadership issues.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_03]: You've got, you know, guys like Jalen Ramsey, that you're deciding to jettison because, you know, that's not working out anymore.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_03]: You've obviously got some friction back last season with Tyree Kill.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe still friction going on with Tyree Kill.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_03]: We don't know.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_03]: You know, there's, there's a lot of questions that way, and for as much as as people really crap all over the Jason Locke and for article, he quoted, you know, NFL executives, general managers that are talking about this with Miami.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_03]: How it feels like the way the team was, the jets were about to detonate under Robert Selig, you know, that they weren't, they weren't being held together very well anymore.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_03]: That, so the dolphins need a hot start.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_03]: So what they need to do is make things hard for themselves in the precies.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_03]: And that means playing their guys.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm sorry, but you know, you're in a position where the injuries, yeah, you've stacked up kind of in some injury prone players on the roster as usual, but you can't worry about that.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you say that that doesn't matter when you when you side everybody, so go out there and prove it.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_03]: And and go do what's in the best interest of your team and play some preseason snaps and get this, you know, get that offense to be a little bit more robust and survive the physicality of other teams.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, as somebody who's been watching every practice and watching the defensive installs, it's obvious that they're trying to cover for their deficiencies at corner back, although they seem to have settled on one guy, and I think he kind of deserves it.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's been really good in training companies.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: He's been battling.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: Oddly enough, this injury that this latest Tyree kill injury that he's
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: battling his oblique injury is due to a very nice play made by storm storm duck on a on a slant where he played the hands and ripped down on the football and broke up a pass so that's one guy that has earned a spot but they have four guys going and vying for the other spot
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: Does this make any sense to you?
- 26:49[SPEAKER_01]: Because look, let's face it.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_01]: No matter what anybody else says, Mike Hilton is the slot.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's who the nickel is going to be.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Hilton is the slot.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: The telltale sign is when he's calling all the alignments at the line and install like the guys being trusted with getting everybody lined up correctly.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's the slot.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's the nickel.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: But opposite of Stormdark, they have four guys vying for one spot.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: How do you think this shakes out?
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: What do you make of such an open competition at one corner back spot?
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: Simon.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think I've said a lot about the corner position.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's an absolute clusterfuck.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that was shown today in the joint practices.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_02]: The bears were clearly without K or without much a Caleb Williams were terrorized in the corners.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's an issue.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_02]: Look, I like what the people are saying about storm.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: I like what the players are saying about storm dark.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the reality is he's gonna have to take a major major step to become a legitimate starting corner and then the guys are because it is just a bunch of guys.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's not really chemistry.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, B.J.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_02]: Adams kind of feels like it's probably not going to be here.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it feels like it's going to be Kendall Sheffield.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: Or Ethan Bonner.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: Kendall Sheffield and Ethan Bonner and Jack Jones.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_01]: Those are the top three guys at that other spot.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, Jones, I mean, that to be honest, it's like, it is.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_02]: Who's the tallest wolf kind of thing?
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, a Kendall Sheffield, what was drafted in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in
- 28:38[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you know, that is a lot of teams that he's played for.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_02]: No career interceptions.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_02]: Um, hasn't played hasn't actually played again since twenty twenty one.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_02]: Hasn't started a game since twenty twenty.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, you know, that's the guy we were relying on.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_02]: It's like.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I mean, yeah, I just get, I mean, I think what's gonna happen is that, you know, scheme can cover so much and, you know, when we're playing good callbacks, it could become a really issue at the back.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_02]: And like we said last week, that that front four has got to be absolutely destructive on an almost down-by-down basis for the back end to hold up consistently because if they do start getting picked apart, it really limits what you can do with Minker and, you know, you always have to play him out.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: you know, literally down the field because he's going to have to cover up the the sins of the of the others on the outside and you know, the guy that's now caught in the the shots for the for the corners of the guy that we literally picked off off the street three weeks ago that nobody else wanted.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_03]: And I think I think that the way I framed it, uh, kind of buried the leash, which is like, you know, putting it down to okay, you know, uh,
- 29:51[SPEAKER_03]: between Ethan Bonner and Kendall Sheffield and Jack Jones and, you know, all those other guys, you know, who's gonna start at that other corner spot?
- 30:01[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, whoa, rewind, rewind.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_03]: Did you just say, Mike Hilton is for sure to start or, you know, that's locked up.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_03]: That is, you know, nobody even questions that.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_03]: And Storm Duck seems to have locked up that other spot.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, whoa, that's your situation at corner.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's more of a scheme fit than ease of the two guys that they signed.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_02]: Like I don't know them.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: Is there a lingering injury don't know about?
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: Is there what is it with Brazil Douglas?
- 30:27[SPEAKER_02]: Because, you know, I think he can... I think I don't feel bad.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't think he wants to be my either.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_02]: That, I think, is the, you know, I mean, it wasn't that long ago that the, the pack is traded with all Douglas for a third rounder, you know, yeah.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_02]: And playing well in Buffalo.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't understand why he wouldn't want to be here.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_01]: You get to play here and it is Miami.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_03]: Your dollar bill a little farther here supposedly he wanted to keep his options open because I think he's eyeball and maybe somebody else, but but either way, it doesn't matter, but I think that the premise of that question even just shows where things are at because you're like, wait storm duck UDFA from last year.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_03]: is the unquestion starter at one of the perimeter spots and Mike Hilton who just got here a couple weeks ago and you know was unemployed as training camps across the league started is your unquestion starter at nickel.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_03]: Damn, what a premise.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_03]: And it's like, so now we're just going to put it on the last of the three spots like, you know, who wins between this guy who doesn't play well, this guy who doesn't play this guy who gets injured, this, you know, damn, that's, that's, that's really setting up.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_02]: So I think it's really interesting to the puckers who also don't have an amazing secondary.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_02]: Well, considering signing Damon on net,
- 32:14[SPEAKER_02]: last week.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_02]: Even though Brazil Douglas is still out there and is a player that's performed really well on the map of Florida.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_02]: I think that tells you an awful lot.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: Not only that, the bills themselves took an injury to Harrison who's supposed to be there started by the way that they got who they drafted in the first round and they brought in four different guys to work out in none of them were Russell Douglas.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: Who was there a year ago?
- 32:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's, that's, that's potentially, you know, something we keep an eye on.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_03]: And it might explain something.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: Well, happened to Kendall Fuller's, me at the end of last year.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_02]: Did he tear his ACL or what was the, uh, we do not, we do not, we do not.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: He had three concussions last year.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_02]: Three.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_02]: Stefan Gilmore.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_02]: He's forty eight years old.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_02]: But we're talking about Stormduck and Ethan Bonner.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_02]: That's not in corners.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_03]: I do believe he's a vulnerable start, by the way.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_02]: I've got my Jason Daniels, Joe Bonner, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, Josh Allen twice, Drake May, like, whoever else we're playing, like, you know, actual court of acts.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_03]: What happened Jason Marshall?
- 33:23[SPEAKER_03]: Wasn't ever very supposed to start me get all excited about him, you know?
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: He's currently training for the Tour de France.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: That was last month.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_01]: So that's always a bad sign when when rookie start training for the Twitter friends.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's one thing I did love look and I think we could end right here and we'll end on on Mike McDaniel because we're running a little short on time.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: Mike McDaniel, that's one thing I did love from Mike McDaniel and all his availability is when he spoke about Cam Smith and he said, look, if you're not on the field, we can't evaluate you and if we can't evaluate you, you're out of sight, out of mind, out of sight, I completely agree.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: Look Jason Marshall, get the fuck off of the bike and start playing.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_01]: Cam Smith went up in this team for a list of our season.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think he'll be traded next week.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_01]: How is that?
- 34:10[SPEAKER_01]: How is that?
- 34:10[SPEAKER_01]: How is that?
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's hiding for it.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody that that that has a good evaluation and they'll throw you a seven-thron pick from.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't think that's going to happen.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: What the hell did I do with that kid?
- 34:21[SPEAKER_02]: I think the trade that might happen is for a receiver.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think it might deal a receiver for a defensive back.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_02]: Because the receiver is genuinely really good.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_02]: I know.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_02]: I don't keep on the matter on, but you know.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_03]: Although we I mean we assume so, but they've been going against a shit corner's group.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_03]: I have.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_02]: I'm paper.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously the front to, you know, unless he lives Regress further from from last year, he really is hitting the wall, giving his age and stuff.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_02]: Water, obviously, you know, he's young, so he should be fine.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_02]: Westbrook, a keynote, we all like, but he's an experience in terms of how to call a lot of balls.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_02]: We love the Washington's, but Charles hasn't played in the NFL.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_02]: He can't believe play pretty well, but he was, you know, a number three slash number four.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_02]: D. S. Gridge, we all loved coming out, but it has flat to deceive for four slash five years, how long has been the league.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_02]: But on paper, it feels like a great way you could, you know, somebody could be, you know, be like, you know what, we'll give you a
- 35:16[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of think of a corner, but let's just say for arguments like the lad that got traded last week to the to the Eagles from the Raiders.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_02]: Let's give you that guy for Taj Washington or you know whatever.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think that's the lesson of today though is is these receivers were looking they look good on paper and they look good on camp just like, you know, I can't I can't go through Twitter or anything without seeing all the
- 35:42[SPEAKER_03]: All the praise being heaped upon the quarterbacks throughout camp, you know, to a hasn't thrown an intersection in eight practices, you know, and, and mall man Zach Wilson looks like he's really coming along and he's he's a great reclamation project and coin yours.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_03]: My god, the next San Marino, you know, and we're reading all that and
- 36:02[SPEAKER_03]: They're throwing to good wider severs on paper who are going against shit, a shit corners on paper in simulated pressure environments in training camp.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_03]: And then they get to another team who actually is competitive, who is physical with them, who is, you know, you're not playing the CPU on easy mode in the chess match anymore.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_03]: And then suddenly the whole thing gets knocked off the rails like that's what today was about and the receivers I think need that because on paper yeah, they should be good, but today then enjoy it
- 36:37[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and you see outside Corn is a Jalen Johnson is one of the top guys in the league and Tariq Stevenson is what's six one two hundred and fifteen pound hundred and twelve pounds and a kind of good wasn't even playing.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I mean, it's not another was Jalen Johnson Jalen Johnson.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, well, there you go.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_02]: Cranky.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't even know Johnson wasn't playing.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_03]: So that's what I heard.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_02]: Um, that is, that's an eye-opener then because, you know, yeah.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to end it right there.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: The next time we talk to you, we'll have result from that game on Sunday.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_01]: but talk to you next week.
