- 0:00Speaker 1: Now more of the Marximone Show on seven ten woor
- 0:05Speaker 1: filling in for Mark here again is Ken Rosato. Had
- 0:09Speaker 1: a very good morning to you. It is great to
- 0:11Speaker 1: have you on. My gosh, it is so good to
- 0:13Speaker 1: be here in for the great Marximone who has the
- 0:16Speaker 1: day off, nice long weekend and well deserved. We want
- 0:19Speaker 1: you to give us a call at eight hundred three
- 0:21Speaker 1: to two one zero seven ten, eight hundred three to
- 0:23Speaker 1: two one zero seven ten, and we we're just getting
- 0:27Speaker 1: some really good calls today. Anyway, you are listening to
- 0:30Speaker 1: the Marximo Show on a Friday, and it is just
- 0:33Speaker 1: a wonderful and interesting day. People going crazy with what's
- 0:36Speaker 1: going on in Iran. We're going to talk more about
- 0:38Speaker 1: that in just a little bit. In the meantime, Democrats
- 0:42Speaker 1: have run New Jersey top to bottom for nine years,
- 0:44Speaker 1: and during that time, spending has grown out of control,
- 0:48Speaker 1: taxes have gone sky high, the business climate has become oppressive.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Don't take my word for it. You could ask the
- 0:54Speaker 1: heads of more than a dozen major corporations that called
- 0:57Speaker 1: New Jersey home for decades, but they've now fled for
- 1:00Speaker 1: states that have friendlier business climates. Most recently Samsung and
- 1:04Speaker 1: Exon Mobile. Well, John Boyd Junior is the principal of
- 1:08Speaker 1: the corporate site selection consultancy, The Boyd Company. It's based
- 1:11Speaker 1: in Princeton. He's here to talk about that more. Good
- 1:14Speaker 1: morning to John.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Kay, Good morning. It's great to be with you.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Good to have you on. Just for the record, John
- 1:20Speaker 1: was nice enough to come on the TV show I
- 1:22Speaker 1: do in New Jersey the other day and I said, Man,
- 1:24Speaker 1: this guys so good, we got to have him on
- 1:25Speaker 1: the radio show. So let's go through the rundown. Democrats
- 1:28Speaker 1: in New Jersey control the governor's office, the State Assembly,
- 1:32Speaker 1: the state Senate, both US Senate seats, nine of the
- 1:34Speaker 1: twelve congressional seats, the state Supreme Court, and the mayor's
- 1:38Speaker 1: offices of the fifteen largest cities in the state. So
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm not trying to condemn Democrats per se in New Jersey,
- 1:45Speaker 1: but there's no question they controlled the whole bowl here.
- 1:48Speaker 1: So not again, I'm not trying to be bashing to Democrats,
- 1:53Speaker 1: but so they've controlled it all for nine years. So
- 1:57Speaker 1: at this point, who else do you blame in New
- 2:00Speaker 1: Jersey but the Democrats for what's going on with the
- 2:02Speaker 1: businesses leaving.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Well, Ken, I think you're hitting the nail on the
- 2:08Speaker 2: head here. Business policy matters with respect to where companies
- 2:13Speaker 2: decide to do business. Okay, you mentioned Samsung, and not
- 2:17Speaker 2: every company is doing, you know, high profile relocations like Samsung. Okay,
- 2:22Speaker 2: I mean, obviously Samsung is just the latest and a
- 2:25Speaker 2: number of high profile corporate relocations out of New Jersey
- 2:29Speaker 2: over the past decade or so. But equally concerning are
- 2:33Speaker 2: the dozens of companies that are scaling in other states
- 2:36Speaker 2: that are less costly, less taxed states like Florida and
- 2:39Speaker 2: the Carolina is even New Jersey's neighbor Pennsylvania, which is
- 2:43Speaker 2: growing its economy because of tax cuts. And I'm more
- 2:47Speaker 2: of all of the above approach to energy. So the
- 2:51Speaker 2: message is business policy matters, tax policy matters, and when
- 2:55Speaker 2: a company like Samsung leaves New Jersey, you're talking about
- 2:59Speaker 2: several hundred jobs, one hundreds of millions of dollars with
- 3:02Speaker 2: payroll and taxable income leaving New Jersey over the next
- 3:05Speaker 2: decade or so. And so it's the income tax and
- 3:08Speaker 2: the sales tax losses. It's also the property tax burden
- 3:12Speaker 2: that shifts the middle class New Jersey ins because corporate
- 3:15Speaker 2: relocations equal decreased commercial property tax appraisals and revenue. But
- 3:20Speaker 2: I think policymakers need to link the affordability crisis that
- 3:24Speaker 2: New Jersey inster facing directly with the business climate and
- 3:27Speaker 2: the dangers of this continued exodus of corporate investment and jobs.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and again, if if it were Republicans in office
- 3:37Speaker 1: in New Jersey right now and running everything and this
- 3:39Speaker 1: was happening, I would be condemnatory of them equally. So
- 3:42Speaker 1: it's a matter of just what you're saying, whoever is
- 3:45Speaker 1: causing the problem. Voting the same way over and over
- 3:47Speaker 1: again is not going to solve the problem. It's doing
- 3:49Speaker 1: the same thing over and over again and expecting a
- 3:51Speaker 1: different outcome is the definition of insanity. And that's what
- 3:54Speaker 1: we keep doing. I say we because I'm a fellow
- 3:56Speaker 1: New Jersey resident. You're down in Princeton with the Boyd Company,
- 3:59Speaker 1: and I'm further north. But it's just sad to say
- 4:02Speaker 1: that people expect change by doing the same thing. But
- 4:05Speaker 1: I will do this and give Governor Mikey Cheryl some applause,
- 4:10Speaker 1: because at least when it comes to energy, why did
- 4:14Speaker 1: you talk about what Mikey Cheryl did to try to
- 4:16Speaker 1: help the energy situation.
- 4:19Speaker 2: But she was this is not Phil Murphy two point
- 4:22Speaker 2: zero with respect to energy. Okay. Murphy was all about
- 4:28Speaker 2: making New Jersey the California of the East Coast with
- 4:31Speaker 2: respect to energy and California like mandates. Cheryl has been
- 4:36Speaker 2: good thus far. Okay, she's lifted the moratorium on natural gas.
- 4:41Speaker 2: That industry has enormous economic development potential, particularly the SMR
- 4:45Speaker 2: industry for R and D operations for New Jersey and
- 4:48Speaker 2: also natural gas. Okay, she's following more of a Joshapiro,
- 4:53Speaker 2: the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania, with an all of the
- 4:57Speaker 2: above approach to energy to help busines and taxpayers. Okay, Look,
- 5:02Speaker 2: this affordability crisis is real. Not every company wants to
- 5:05Speaker 2: relocate out of New York or New Jersey to the
- 5:08Speaker 2: Sun Belt. There are winning regional markets like Pennsylvania. Even
- 5:12Speaker 2: Connecticut is attracting a lot of out migration of business.
- 5:16Speaker 2: What's a common denominator? Those states are cutting taxes and
- 5:19Speaker 2: they have a more pro business policy towards energy.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and when you look at it in the greater scheme,
- 5:24Speaker 1: you think of the map of New Jersey. What better
- 5:27Speaker 1: place on the planet to locate a business. You have
- 5:30Speaker 1: the first and fourth largest business markets in the United
- 5:33Speaker 1: States in New York and Philadelphia. You have everything from
- 5:37Speaker 1: mountains to shore, great universities, Princeton University, Rutgers and J. T.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Kine Writer, Montclair State, Rowan Stockton, William Patterson. I can
- 5:45Speaker 1: go on and on. We got great colleges in New Jersey.
- 5:48Speaker 1: It's in a perfect area. You have expensive homes, less expensive,
- 5:51Speaker 1: more affordable homes, and great transportation. It's all there. So
- 5:56Speaker 1: if you're a corporation, you want to go to a
- 5:59Speaker 1: place like New Jersey until you have government making it
- 6:01Speaker 1: oppressive to be there.
- 6:04Speaker 2: That's right, Kenn. Look there's a live, work play dynamic
- 6:08Speaker 2: behind corporate location decisions today. And this is a strong
- 6:11Speaker 2: suit as you just so articulated so well. I mean,
- 6:15Speaker 2: the beaches, k through twelve schools, the cluster of major
- 6:17Speaker 2: universities of course, proximity of Manhattan Philadelphia, connectivity to the
- 6:21Speaker 2: global marketplace. Okay, so you're right, all of the pieces
- 6:26Speaker 2: of the puzzle are there. The only thing that's missing
- 6:28Speaker 2: is the heavy lifting from Trenton politicians. Tax cuts, reforming
- 6:33Speaker 2: our energy policy to make it more business friendly, and
- 6:36Speaker 2: even doing some smart things that really promote consolidations of
- 6:40Speaker 2: municipal services to cut up to reduce the property tax burden.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Well, you know, it's funny to be able to say
- 6:48Speaker 1: that Governor Mikey Cheryl is the adult in the room
- 6:51Speaker 1: now when it comes to Trenton, because it looks like
- 6:53Speaker 1: the assemblies out of control, the State Assemblies is out
- 6:55Speaker 1: of control, the State Senate to some extent, but Governor
- 6:58Speaker 1: Mikey Cheryl is now like the sound mind of all
- 7:01Speaker 1: of them to try to bring things or keep things
- 7:03Speaker 1: from getting out of control when it comes to making
- 7:06Speaker 1: businesses leave because people who have the attitude, the mamdani
- 7:09Speaker 1: esque attitude of oh you want to take your millions
- 7:12Speaker 1: and leave, go, good riddance, which is what Hokel did
- 7:14Speaker 1: in New York as well, that same attitude, although now
- 7:16Speaker 1: she's changing her tune as she sees the population declining
- 7:19Speaker 1: and the major corporations leaving New York as well. John Boyd,
- 7:23Speaker 1: Junior Principal of the corporate site selection consultancy, the Boyd Company,
- 7:27Speaker 1: based in beautiful Princeton, New Jersey. By the way, it's
- 7:29Speaker 1: not just a college town. What a beautiful town you
- 7:32Speaker 1: live in. Princeton is one of the prettiest places on earth.
- 7:34Speaker 1: What a great town. How long you been there?
- 7:37Speaker 2: So we've been in Princeton since nineteen seventy five, but
- 7:42Speaker 2: we're also in Boker too. In flor we're in the
- 7:45Speaker 2: sixth Borough. Ah, we actually officially relocate. I still spend
- 7:49Speaker 2: a great ular time in New Jersey. Good a lot
- 7:53Speaker 2: of listeners and fans here in the sixth Borough for Wor.
- 7:56Speaker 1: About a fourth of our calls are from there as well.
- 7:59Speaker 1: And I'm just south of you and Fort Lauderdale as well,
- 8:01Speaker 1: so I'm there half the time as well. But John,
- 8:04Speaker 1: it is great to have you on again. Please thank
- 8:06Speaker 1: you for coming God this morning, and please come on again.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Thank you. Ken. It'll be a great weekend.

- 8:17Speaker 1: same for tomorrow and Sunday Father's Day. A really nice weekend.
