Transcript
- 0:15Welcome to the One Oahu podcast.
- 0:16I'm your host, Brandi Higa, and it's officially spooky season.
- 0:21Halloween falls on a Friday this year, which is always kind of fun.
- 0:24And to get us in the ghoulish mood or sitting down with members
- 0:27from several city departments this month to share some of their
- 0:30haunted, chilling, maybe even some of their fun Halloween stories.
- 0:34And first up from the Honolulu Police Department, Sergeant Cameron Tuitele.
- 0:38Cam, thanks for making some time for us. Aloha.
- 0:40Thank you for having me.
- 0:41As a first off, tell me a little bit about yourself.
- 0:43How long have you been with the department?
- 0:45Which station did you work out of?
- 0:47Where did you grow up? Where'd you go to school?
- 0:48I want to know everything.
- 0:49Okay.
- 0:50Well, yeah, I've been a police officer now for almost 18 years, so it's been.
- 0:54It's been some time of.
- 0:55Throughout my career, I've moved out to different areas.
- 0:58District one, district eight, district five.
- 1:02Even within at the academy.
- 1:03So experience a lot of different places.
- 1:07Some fun things, some scary things.
- 1:09So it's kind of always nice to talk about these things. Yeah.
- 1:12And just for background, what part of the island did you grow up?
- 1:14I grew up in town.
- 1:15I'm a townee.
- 1:16Yeah, but I went to Kamehameha schools.
- 1:18You know, I learned a lot about some of the culture
- 1:21things about our islands here and our culture here in Hawaii.
- 1:24And so sorry to.
- 1:25Do you do you believe in ghosts?
- 1:28I, I, I do, I sure I do.
- 1:31I just learn to respect them and to respect those things.
- 1:36I do believe in and things that bad things can happen,
- 1:39but I'm not really afraid of them, I guess you could say.
- 1:42And so what have you personally experience when it comes to things
- 1:45like maybe anything haunted, anything supernatural, anything like that?
- 1:49Yeah. So,
- 1:50at one point in
- 1:51my career, I kind of worked out of the academy and,
- 1:56it's pretty known to us, especially to us, that work there
- 1:59that some, some awkward things can happen at the academy.
- 2:04We've had lots of experiences.
- 2:05I've heard of experiences that have happened in the past, such as,
- 2:10seeing people walk up to some people,
- 2:13maybe looking down and seeing feet walking up to them.
- 2:15And when they look up, no one is there.
- 2:17Or carts just rolling by itself
- 2:20when there's no wind or even on campus like some of the
- 2:24the windows are open and shut, open and shut and lots of experiences
- 2:29that I hear about it, but I have never experienced any of it myself
- 2:34until one time I was with my coworker and he,
- 2:40he had explained some certain things.
- 2:42So we were talking about Waipahu.
- 2:44Waipahu is where our academy is located,
- 2:47and it's actually kind of located on like the Marshall Islands.
- 2:52And it had been known to us that these experienced happened.
- 2:56And so at one point,
- 2:57the department had brought in, alcohol to come in and give a blessing.
- 3:01And so this Kahu had walked around and all of this is prior to me
- 3:05even working at the Academy, the Kahu had walked around and he had,
- 3:09bless certain parts of these buildings.
- 3:12And he kind of stopped that one specific area.
- 3:17And he had mentioned he said, you know what?
- 3:19This area right here
- 3:22is where a Knight marches path is walking through.
- 3:26And he could feel it.
- 3:27Now, being from Hawaii,
- 3:29a lot of us are, you know, we're pretty familiar with night marches.
- 3:32Are you familiar with the night marches?
- 3:33I mean, we know that they're usually Hawaiian warriors or even maybe
- 3:37some of our allies that would come down, during the night time.
- 3:40And they marched in a procession
- 3:43and we hear it that usually you'd hear it through the beating of the drums and,
- 3:46it'd maybe the blowing of the pool with a conch shell, you know.
- 3:49And so you hear of all of these things
- 3:51anyway, so when I first started working at the Academy myself,
- 3:56a lot of my coworkers were telling me,
- 3:57this is the part the path comes right through here.
- 4:01And so
- 4:03the Academy was instructed
- 4:06to plant TV at every corner of this building.
- 4:11So my time there, I had now been there for about five years,
- 4:15and I had always recognized
- 4:16these tea leaf that were growing at the corners of our buildings,
- 4:20and it was usually taken care of by some of our maintenance workers.
- 4:24So they would go there
- 4:25and they would water the tea leaves and everything would be good.
- 4:29Well,
- 4:30as time goes on and being there for five years, maintenance workers change
- 4:34and whatnot, and,
- 4:35you know, you get to know different people and maybe sometimes the word doesn't
- 4:38get down that.
- 4:39So certain parts of their jobs need to happen.
- 4:42Well, one
- 4:44morning I came back to my office
- 4:48and the cabinets that were on
- 4:51the walls were all on the floor.
- 4:54So in other words, these big wooden cabinets that house
- 4:57a lot of our VHS tapes, old, old records and everything, which had just fallen.
- 5:02And I looked over and I said, and this was a long it was a ten foot
- 5:06long cabinet.
- 5:07And I said, how did this happen?
- 5:09It wasn't too heavy.
- 5:11There wasn't that much heavy stuff in it.
- 5:14And when I looked at the wall, I could see
- 5:16the nail was still in the wall and it wasn't bent.
- 5:20So it's almost as if someone had grabbed these cabinets,
- 5:23ripped it straight out, and then just dropped it.
- 5:27Not like where it just kind of fell over and the weight of it took it down.
- 5:30Bending the nails.
- 5:31No, these nails were straight in and the cabinets were ripped out.
- 5:35So I was just like, I didn't understand how something like that could happen.
- 5:39And it reminded me
- 5:41of these stories, of these ghosts that other people had experienced.
- 5:45And so when I went outside and I walked around the building
- 5:48and I looked two sections of where those TVs were planted
- 5:53were all withered away.
- 5:55So for I don't know how many months now,
- 5:58someone wasn't caring for those tea leaves and they started to die away.
- 6:04You know, I would think that maybe
- 6:06that played a factor to where we couldn't keep it blessed throughout.
- 6:10Maybe it was just a reminder for us to to take care of it.
- 6:13So guess what?
- 6:14I did the first thing that morning.
- 6:16Planted some new tea leaf, put in some water.
- 6:20Now all of those tea leaf are pretty lush
- 6:23and green, and I have yet to experience something.
- 6:26Something, you know, again, there at the Academy.
- 6:30There at the academy.
- 6:31What have you experienced anything else like that in during your time?
- 6:36For me,
- 6:37no, I haven't personally experienced, but,
- 6:41during my career, I belong to different areas, done patrol and whatnot.
- 6:45One of the things that I did was I kind of helped with,
- 6:47making videos and stuff for the department.
- 6:50And so we were tasked for some years to create ghost stories every Halloween.
- 6:55And so we did, and we posted it on YouTube.
- 6:58So we have maybe about ten different stories.
- 7:01In order to get those stories, it was always our job to go out
- 7:05and find officers with these experiences.
- 7:08And there's one that I really that I enjoyed.
- 7:13Joy of. Creating.
- 7:15Because it allowed me to talk to these officers. But,
- 7:19it's a story that an officer had
- 7:22while she was a young officer on the poly.
- 7:26She didn't want she didn't
- 7:28want herself to be on this video, but she she didn't mind the story going out.
- 7:32She said she was a young officer.
- 7:34And at that time, during the evenings, it was our job
- 7:38to the HPD job to go out and lock the gates.
- 7:44So every night at around 10 p.m.
- 7:46or so, she would go and she'd lock the gate.
- 7:48So she drove up with her blue and white on her police vehicle.
- 7:52She went to the first gate and she locked it,
- 7:56and then she got in her car, and then she started to drive around.
- 7:59And as she drove around, she passed the lookout portion going to the other side.
- 8:05When she got to the other side, she saw a lady walking on the road.
- 8:09This lady was dressed in a white dress and she looked like an elderly lady.
- 8:15Now, I don't know about you,
- 8:17but already for me, this is already like, red flags about this is.
- 8:21This doesn't look right.
- 8:22But as a police officer, it's it's our job
- 8:25to to check to make sure that people are okay.
- 8:29And so she pulled over to this lady
- 8:32who was kind of slowly walking on the side of the road.
- 8:36The officer rolled down her window,
- 8:39and then when she looked up, no one was there.
- 8:42And then when she looked in her rearview mirror.
- 8:45Oh, yeah, I said, check in.
- 8:48There was the lady sitting in the back of her blue and white.
- 8:53Now this officer, of course, she was scared,
- 8:58but she was raised by what I would say
- 9:00is someone who understands to respect me.
- 9:04So she told me that I was raised, that when if you were to ever encounter
- 9:08something like this.
- 9:09Yeah, you just talk to them, you talk to them, you let them know
- 9:14that you don't have any bad intentions and you just let them know.
- 9:17And so when she saw the lady in the back, she said, oh,
- 9:22hi, Auntie.
- 9:23Is everything okay?
- 9:25The lady didn't respond and so she decided to
- 9:28just explain to the lady what her role was.
- 9:32And she said, oh, you know, I'm Officer so-and-so,
- 9:34and right now I'm just going to continue on doing my job
- 9:37and I'm going to go to the next gate and lock it.
- 9:40And when I'm done with that, maybe
- 9:43I can take you to the other side.
- 9:46You see, it's kind of known
- 9:49that sometimes there are people on the poly highway
- 9:53that just want to get over to the other side of the party,
- 9:57and so this officer remembered that.
- 10:01And so she told this unknown lady, she says, once
- 10:06I lock the gate, then maybe I can take you,
- 10:08but I can only go so far because I have to continue on with my duties.
- 10:12So when this officer got to the next gate,
- 10:15she locked it again, got out of her car, locked the gate.
- 10:18When she got back in her car, the lady was still seated there.
- 10:22So as she promised the lady,
- 10:24she drove on and she got to the tunnels.
- 10:29And when she
- 10:30was driving through the polytunnels,
- 10:33she said she felt like, a sense of relief.
- 10:37And by the time she continued through to the end of the tunnel,
- 10:41the lady was no longer in her backseat.
- 10:45She went on with her duties.
- 10:47So it's experiences like this that sometimes we we have on duty, off
- 10:53duty whatnot, but it's the knowledge
- 10:56of how to treat it with respect, you know?
- 11:00Are there stations or districts?
- 11:03You know, I you just mentioned Waipahu.
- 11:05I feel like people want to I feel like I've heard the stories,
- 11:08I've seen the YouTube videos as well.
- 11:10But which stations would you say are like the most haunted districts
- 11:12where these kind of stories pop up more often than others?
- 11:17Okay.
- 11:17So we've done stories.
- 11:21One of one cool story that we talked about happens at our Kahuku station,
- 11:26and the cocoa station is all the way up there, up north.
- 11:28Yeah.
- 11:29It's it's an interesting story
- 11:32that that, involved, like a Hawaiian warrior.
- 11:35So that one was kind of neat to hear about.
- 11:40So you you would think
- 11:42you would think that every, every one of these ghost stories
- 11:45happens in some of the, older buildings,
- 11:48that it needs to be an older building for, for experiences to happen.
- 11:51But that's not necessarily true.
- 11:53In fact, we did a piece on one of our newest
- 11:56buildings, which is the White Knight station,
- 11:59relatively newly built.
- 12:01We still. Still need. Some construction.
- 12:04And there was an experience that happened not that long ago with one of our,
- 12:08offices.
- 12:10Officer Johnson, on the on and she she experienced something where,
- 12:14she she thought she saw,
- 12:16a little, a little girl in the camera
- 12:19that it was impossible for this could have got to be in.
- 12:23So. Yeah, I mean, lots of stories, lots of fun stuff.
- 12:28Always, always fun to watch.
- 12:30Especially during the season. Yeah.
- 12:32And so, cam, where will you be this year?
- 12:34On Halloween?
- 12:35On Halloween this year, I will be with my kids.
- 12:39I'll trick or treating.
- 12:40Yeah. I'll make sure that they're safe and whatnot.
- 12:44Just having a good time.
- 12:45But I'll tell you what.
- 12:46My kids, they absolutely love hearing ghost stories.
- 12:49So it's it's fun to hear these different stories from the different divisions
- 12:55and the different departments within the city.
- 12:56What is their favorite story that you've told them so far?
- 12:59Their favorite story?
- 13:02I think is the Kahuku story, though,
- 13:07because they get to see it, you know, we recreate we recreated them on YouTube.
- 13:11So you said this one had to do with the war.
- 13:12What was that story exactly?
- 13:14So that story has to do with an officer who,
- 13:17in his young career was stationed out there in Kahuku, and he remembers
- 13:22having a conversation with, with one of the old timer, lady officers.
- 13:28And she said that she often saw
- 13:31a Hawaiian warrior in the hallways of the station,
- 13:36that this warrior was kind of dressed
- 13:38in, Hawaiian clothing with her mother, sometimes with a weapon.
- 13:43And she said that he doesn't really bother.
- 13:48But to just show respect.
- 13:51And so this officer was like, okay.
- 13:53Yeah, no problem. That's fine.
- 13:57Now in the Kahuku station,
- 13:58there is a, an upper area, they call it the loft.
- 14:03And that loft is, is kind of isolated, secluded.
- 14:07So no one, no one is really up there.
- 14:09And sometimes it's a it's a good spot
- 14:10to be able to write your reports because you won't be bothered.
- 14:14Now in this time of his career.
- 14:16This is when all of our reports are handwritten.
- 14:18So he actually went up there to be alone so that he could, he could,
- 14:22get I get ahead of running his reports.
- 14:25And while he was writing, when he looked up,
- 14:28he said in the corner of the of the room, he saw a shadow,
- 14:35and then the shadow got a little more clear.
- 14:39And they said, he said the shadow said to walk towards him,
- 14:43and he could see that the shadow was a Hawaiian warrior.
- 14:47And he was he was nervous.
- 14:49He was scared.
- 14:50And the shadow actually came,
- 14:55put its hands
- 14:57on this officer's shoulder and almost, like, held him down.
- 15:02And he said that
- 15:05he wanted to scream.
- 15:06He wanted to yell, he wanted to get up,
- 15:10but he couldn't move and nothing could come out of his mouth.
- 15:14And he said that he doesn't know how long this happened.
- 15:17One minute, two minutes, five minutes.
- 15:20He doesn't know, but he was just held there
- 15:23and he couldn't do anything.
- 15:26Eventually he said, the shadow
- 15:29let go and backed back up and went back into the corner.
- 15:33And at that moment, once that shadow disappeared or feelings came back,
- 15:37he was able to get up and he ran down from that loft and he and he left.
- 15:43And it's said
- 15:44that the officers don't use that loft anymore,
- 15:48and no one really goes up there to write reports or anything.
- 15:52It's just kind of kept as a place
- 15:55to not be, I guess you could say.
- 15:58What do you think it is that that warrior stays there?
- 16:02I don't know.
- 16:03I don't know if he stays there or feels just.
- 16:06I don't even know why he would have held him down.
- 16:08But, I mean, as I as I've said throughout this,
- 16:12I just think if we show it respect and we we don't
- 16:15disrespect it in any way,
- 16:18we show respect to the culture of Hawaii.
- 16:22Yeah. I think everything is fine.
- 16:24You know, everyone experiences things differently.
- 16:27I don't know why he experienced it that way.
- 16:30But, yeah, just an interesting story.
- 16:34And what are you supposed to do if you see a nice archer?
- 16:35What are you supposed to do? If you see a knight in my chair?
- 16:38There are lots of things that they say they.
- 16:40Supposed to be. Exactly.
- 16:41So what would you say, my friends?
- 16:43You know,
- 16:44because, like, when you're growing up, sometimes your friends will tell you,
- 16:46you know, you know, since they get naked, right? You know? Right.
- 16:48Yeah. I, I don't know if.
- 16:50You know, it.
- 16:50Doesn't hurt your good friends if they're telling you.
- 16:53It's so funny because I've had this conversation.
- 16:56My, my father,
- 16:58who was born and raised in Kaneohe, like the house that he was raised
- 17:03on, was right there on the be right in Kaneohe Bay.
- 17:06And there was his house
- 17:08and there was his auntie's house right next to each other.
- 17:11And they kind of lived on the hillside.
- 17:13And I remember hearing stories that my dad said that I might march.
- 17:17His trail came right between the two homes,
- 17:23when my I don't know if I'm remembering this correctly,
- 17:26but when my mom first married my father, they were sleeping in the house.
- 17:31And at end, my mom said that she could hear, like, this drumming.
- 17:35Yeah.
- 17:36And she was like, what is that sound?
- 17:39And my dad was already kind of dozing off and going to sleep
- 17:42and then she goes, hey, what does that sound?
- 17:46I hear drumming like it's coming closer.
- 17:48And my dad said, that's just a night.
- 17:50Just don't worry about it.
- 17:51You'll be fine. And my mom was so scared.
- 17:54But you know it.
- 17:55That's that's something that's neat to me.
- 17:57Is that my father grew up hearing it,
- 18:01and so he wasn't scared of it because he.
- 18:06He respected it.
- 18:08You know, I would just say that.
- 18:10Yeah. You respect it.
- 18:12What do you do if you see it?
- 18:13I don't know, because I've never seen it.
- 18:15So, yeah, you can read up online.
- 18:18It'll say, like you said, I'll get naked.
- 18:20Lay down. Don't look at it. Yeah.
- 18:22Those are all the things that I've heard.
- 18:24But the cool experience that I've heard from my father is
- 18:28you just know it's there and you just don't.
- 18:30You don't treat it any other bad way.
- 18:33Well, Sergeant Cameron to Italy, I thank you so much for your time.
- 18:36No problem. Nice to be here.
- 18:38Happy Halloween everyone.
- 18:39Happy Halloween.
- 18:46And we're sticking with more stories to get us in the spine chilling mood.
- 18:49Up next from the Honolulu Fire Department, captain Gerald the Jackal
- 18:53and John Pacheco.
- 18:54A man is an analyst.
- 18:55Gentlemen, thanks for making some time for us.
- 18:58Thanks for having. Us.
- 18:59Cat, we'll start with you first off.
- 19:00Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where did you grow up?
- 19:02What high school did you go to?
- 19:04What made you want to join the department? Any of that? Okay.
- 19:07My name is Gerald Pacheco.
- 19:08I'm 56.
- 19:10I been in for 31.5 years.
- 19:13Grew up in Palisades.
- 19:15Went to Kamehameha, graduated in 1987.
- 19:18I don't know if this is just a job that I always wanted to do.
- 19:22I can remember from preschool, and the fire trucks would show up and dance.
- 19:26That was my calling, I guess.
- 19:27So ended up getting lucky.
- 19:31Picked up and living the dream of,
- 19:34And John. Same question.
- 19:35Tell us a little bit about yourself.
- 19:37Hi. My name is John Pacheco. 35.
- 19:40Grew up in Kapolei.
- 19:41Also went to Kamehameha schools, class of 2009.
- 19:45Yeah. Sorry.
- 19:46And, Yeah, I've grown up, with all these guys, in the department.
- 19:52Seeing kind of the culture.
- 19:54I always wanted to be able to give back in a position like this.
- 19:56So really happy to be here and contribute and get.
- 20:01Do you believe in ghosts?
- 20:02I won't say that I do that. I won't say that I do.
- 20:05It's just one of those,
- 20:06there's stuff out there that can't be explained
- 20:08that would just leave it right there.
- 20:10So have you personally experienced anything
- 20:12haunting, supernatural or anything like that?
- 20:14Well, yeah.
- 20:16In the station, there's been quite a few.
- 20:18There's quite a few hotspots at certain stations, but.
- 20:22Tell us about those.
- 20:23Hotspots.
- 20:23Well, if they follow you home, sometimes.
- 20:28Geez.
- 20:28I mean, there's, stuff that I've heard of and experienced personally at Copley.
- 20:34Wahiawa Central Fire Station, Kakaako.
- 20:37Okay.
- 20:37We're at Kakaako right now.
- 20:39We're recording this podcast at algo.
- 20:41So what kind of stories you have about this space that we are sitting in now?
- 20:44When I got here first as a captain, we were prepping this for
- 20:49to be the, the museum.
- 20:52So they would ask us to come over, we go and then just,
- 20:54you know, move some stuff around.
- 20:56So initially when it was, unimproved, it was
- 21:00you just had this weird feeling that somebody was there looking at you.
- 21:04But this point next is,
- 21:07our crew polished it down. It's brass.
- 21:09I mean, those of you that been around brass know it.
- 21:12It gets pretty nice and shiny.
- 21:14So what had happened was we polished this thing from the floor
- 21:18to the top of the roof on the second floor.
- 21:20We came in the next shift to move some stuff around.
- 21:24And there were fingerprints, little kid fingerprints.
- 21:28Well above what a man can reach on the second floor.
- 21:31So that was a little strange.
- 21:33You also mentioned some other stations.
- 21:35Copley.
- 21:37Oh, boy.
- 21:37Yeah. Couple it.
- 21:40If you're familiar with the layout there,
- 21:42there's a gate towards the back by the decentralization plan.
- 21:46What they were saying is that was the,
- 21:49the path for the is to come from the mountain to the ocean.
- 21:52They followed the trees.
- 21:55And if you close that gate, a lot of strange things happened in the dorm.
- 22:00They had, a pressing, I guess, is what you would call it happened to me.
- 22:05It was, at first my, bunkmate next to me.
- 22:08He got his.
- 22:09And I kind of laughed.
- 22:10It off, like, yeah, okay, whatever. But,
- 22:14yeah, that night that I got in, he had heard me, so I was.
- 22:18His name is, G'Kar.
- 22:20He's the captain at, I knew he was next to me, and I asked him a
- 22:27did you.
- 22:27Did you hear me thrashing around?
- 22:29He said, yeah.
- 22:30So I said, up front, did you see what I saw?
- 22:34And he's like, oh, I don't know what you're talking about.
- 22:36I said, well,
- 22:37come on now, tell me if you saw what I saw.
- 22:40And then, because what I had seen was it looked like after I was done
- 22:44struggling like a mist, almost like a rain cloud above me.
- 22:50And when he described the same thing, I was like, oh my God.
- 22:55But from there, when I got to know, it kind of shot up into the rafters.
- 22:59So I asked him a who's very distinct fly above and he said, right above.
- 23:04Brian soars better and I'll say, Hawk, it's unreal.
- 23:08So I knew it was something that was corroborated by somebody else.
- 23:12Wasn't losing my mind.
- 23:15And then you mentioned central.
- 23:16Just passing central.
- 23:17It kind of looks a little scary.
- 23:19What's wrong with that building?
- 23:22That one wasn't too bad.
- 23:23That was my first station.
- 23:26I just remember hearing footsteps at night in the hallway.
- 23:30And then just the.
- 23:31Everything about it was old, so, you know, the doors would be creaking at night,
- 23:34I guess.
- 23:35Might have been a little bit of imagination,
- 23:37but like I said, you know, I, I know that things.
- 23:41Garrett must follow us back to the station, so who knows that one.
- 23:46I think I might have been buying into some of the other
- 23:49older firefighters that to scare me.
- 23:52And then, John, we're also a few steps away from your workplace.
- 23:56Can you talk about where you work?
- 23:57Any hauntings, spirits, anything like that?
- 23:59Yeah, sure.
- 24:00So, one night I was working late over here at headquarters, and,
- 24:04I felt kind of a presence behind me, so I turned around and.
- 24:07Look, no one was there.
- 24:10Which is kind of strange, because there were
- 24:11only two other people in the building, and they're on a different floor.
- 24:14But I didn't really feel any anything weird.
- 24:17Like.
- 24:18Like it was maybe, like evil or, like, benevolent or anything like that.
- 24:21So I backed out. Whatever.
- 24:22So I went back to work.
- 24:24And as I'm turning to go back to work, I had a lady that I got the day
- 24:28before hanging up in my workplace from a clip, and it jumped.
- 24:34And I was like, what?
- 24:35That's that's super weird of.
- 24:36And it was maybe a couple feet away from me.
- 24:38And it looked like someone was flicking on a light switch.
- 24:41So it's a little
- 24:42it was dangling and I'd jump, jump, jump three times and it stopped.
- 24:46And then I looked around.
- 24:47I was, okay, this is super weird.
- 24:49But again, it didn't feel like like evil or like
- 24:52I didn't feel scared or anything like that.
- 24:53So I just kind of brushed it off and just went back to work.
- 24:57But then the very next day, the very next morning, I came back.
- 25:01The person that sits by me, came into work, and we were talking
- 25:03story, and I happened to be looking at the lady,
- 25:06and it literally did it again the exact same amount of times.
- 25:08It just flicked up three times, jumped, and then it stopped.
- 25:12So at that point I thought, okay, something's up with this lady.
- 25:16Something's up with this place.
- 25:17I'm not sure. I don't know what's going on.
- 25:19So I was actually going to throw it away or I was going to, you know, like native
- 25:22Hawaiian, like kind of practice and give it back to nature.
- 25:25So, I took this lei and I was walking out and I ran into our secretary
- 25:29for planning and development, Millie, and, she asked what I was doing.
- 25:33I told her, and she said, oh, that that's a really good idea
- 25:36because there's a spirit in the building and names Keemo.
- 25:39And he's he's not like, you know, like evil.
- 25:42He's he's kind of like trickster ish.
- 25:44And and like I said, go around and play play around and stuff like that.
- 25:47So she said, oh, maybe he just really likes delay.
- 25:49So go, just go give it to the tree outside.
- 25:52So yeah, I, I gave it to the tree outside and nothing else happened since.
- 25:56So it sounds like people here know chemo.
- 25:58What other things has chemo done?
- 26:00Oh man.
- 26:00I've heard stories from Miley about, a certain elevator
- 26:04in our building, that he likes to reside in.
- 26:07That people have had experiences either like the elevator stalling out or
- 26:10they feel like a pressing on their chest, or just like a presence there with them.
- 26:14I think Miley actually says the elevator gets cold for her.
- 26:17Yeah. I'm, like, super cold.
- 26:19Yeah, I mean, you ask any of the champions,
- 26:22like, kept Jimmy at nine?
- 26:25I guess we call him Joe, though.
- 26:26If it was, I don't know how to explain you only see his upper torso, no legs.
- 26:31He'll be walking around or floating around,
- 26:35downstairs in the,
- 26:36the old weight room and in the hallway, but, waterfall thing.
- 26:40Right?
- 26:43He, Yeah.
- 26:45He's there.
- 26:45I mean, just it was odd because of all the places
- 26:48I've been, nine has been cut off or has been the the most,
- 26:53active for me.
- 26:56I mean, just even more stories.
- 26:58But it was like we have these, office partitions
- 27:01in between the beds.
- 27:04At night,
- 27:06I'd be, you know, you kind of.
- 27:07I'm lying down.
- 27:08I'm laying on it, and you can.
- 27:10I can hear something that's moving by like.
- 27:14Like.
- 27:17But I'm leaning against it, and you can feel it, too.
- 27:20So sleep.
- 27:21So I call out,
- 27:23Chief Torres.
- 27:25He was, a captain there with me, so I'm like, hey, what are you doing, man?
- 27:30And it's like, I'm trying to call him.
- 27:32And finally I get up and I called
- 27:35to, you know, I think maybe he's messing with me, so.
- 27:37But he's.
- 27:38This is the one in the room we've experienced,
- 27:41the same voices that, you know, conversation that kept Jimmy had at us,
- 27:47where we took turns.
- 27:48It was like you would hear a kid talking or something like that.
- 27:52And, kept. Torres had told me at the time.
- 27:55Chief Torres.
- 27:56He told me.
- 27:57Oh, I thought he was making little kid noises.
- 28:00So I was like, colleague, knock it off already.
- 28:02Well, I go to sleep, and I went over there, and you wasn't in your bunk.
- 28:06I was like, yeah.
- 28:07And I had the same thing happened.
- 28:09So I don't know what's going on up there, even to the, to
- 28:12the point of actually had physical stuff moving.
- 28:14Like he said,
- 28:17I came up and then,
- 28:19the captain had told me, wow,
- 28:21that's kind of cool.
- 28:22I'll do that to my stuff.
- 28:24And, I had just walked up into the dorm and he.
- 28:28So I was like, what the hell are you talking?
- 28:30And he's like,
- 28:32look over here.
- 28:33You threw all my stuff on the ground.
- 28:34And he said that,
- 28:35and he tried to run around and go out and, come back in like he didn't do nothing.
- 28:39I was like,
- 28:40bro, I didn't do nothing.
- 28:41He is very bad.
- 28:43Everything was literally turned upside down.
- 28:45And it was.
- 28:47Yeah, another one of those maybe, you know, there's explanations.
- 28:51Maybe somebody is pulling a prank on him.
- 28:53But after all the stuff that was going on up there, I mean, we had
- 28:57Chief Torres had his toes tickled by this, I tell him.
- 29:00You sure?
- 29:01But, I mean, there's an explanation, right? But.
- 29:04Yeah, but the to get touched or pressed, that's.
- 29:06Yeah. Hard to explain.
- 29:09I've asked this question to everyone
- 29:10we're sitting down with this week, but if you see a spirit or a
- 29:14say you see an artwork night marcher, what do you suggest that people do?
- 29:19Roll over and cover your head at the blanket?
- 29:23That's what I did.
- 29:27Oh, that was his pillow was using right there.
- 29:30Because I remember waking up and I don't know if someone is messing with me.
- 29:33The stories at the old of a beach, there was a little boy
- 29:37who passed away nearby, and he would come and play in the station,
- 29:40and that night he would pull the chair into the middle of the dorm and sit there.
- 29:46So I had to go to the restroom and I rolled over.
- 29:50I saw a chair
- 29:51in the middle of the of the dorm, and I was like, you know, I can hold it.
- 29:55And I.
- 29:57I, I ain't doing it.
- 30:00And then John, for you, you know, say he was running around one day.
- 30:03What do you what do you suggest that people do?
- 30:06Honestly?
- 30:07Just just be yourself and just just keep on keeping, I guess.
- 30:11Like I said, it didn't really feel like evil or anything like that.
- 30:14I, I didn't feel like, in danger or anything,
- 30:18which I think would have been a very different conversation at that point,
- 30:20because I've seen that movie before, and I'm not about to be that victim. But,
- 30:25yeah, just just coming in with good intentions, good energy and.
- 30:29Yeah, it should be fine.
- 30:30Hopefully. I'll try that.
- 30:31Yeah, hopefully.
- 30:34Full disclosure, you guys are related.
- 30:37Yeah.
- 30:38What do you think?
- 30:39Why do you think they chose you?
- 30:40Why do you think you're able to experience this?
- 30:41And maybe others aren't? Whoa.
- 30:45Go ahead.
- 30:45Your father set this up.
- 30:49Wow. I never given much thought.
- 30:51Yeah, I guess because we just.
- 30:53One of those families are blessed enough to have a whole bunch of individuals
- 30:58that have been or are in the department.
- 31:02I know when I go to stations, guys ask me what I really that of the stations.
- 31:05They ask me, so what what what kind of haunted stories you got?
- 31:08And so there's, there's a bunch, I'll tell you.
- 31:11There's so many out there.
- 31:15Like John mentioned,
- 31:16it kind of seems like they have good intentions,
- 31:18but is there one that sticks with you, one that kind of scares you,
- 31:20one that maybe you think back on?
- 31:22There was, yeah, that one,
- 31:24a couple that he wanted us to, a
- 31:28little bit on the personal side, but,
- 31:32we had actually gone to an alarm, like I said
- 31:35the day before of my encounter, at Copley O'Hara, he had his.
- 31:40And, we ended up getting up to go to the, the alarm,
- 31:45and he got up and he just looked at me and his face was scratched up.
- 31:48So I was like, oh, well, you had a rough night or,
- 31:51you know, just kind of laughed it off because, you know, that's explainable.
- 31:55So when he turns around, this is bad.
- 31:57And he's walking towards the, the truck, he's got scratches
- 32:02down his back from shoulder to hips,
- 32:06you know, straight line, four of them.
- 32:08And it's like, he can't do that to you.
- 32:09Well, I know we couldn't and he couldn't do it himself.
- 32:13And I sure as hell didn't do it to him.
- 32:16So he that was one of those that really got spooked,
- 32:18you know, the same one that kind of hit me, you know?
- 32:22But yeah, he did.
- 32:23He said it actually talked to him and said that your mind's so.
- 32:27Well, he was being nailed down, but yeah, he said,
- 32:30he did, and he felt, the scratches going in, so.
- 32:34Yeah, the one at 40, I think there was a little pissed off.
- 32:37So I don't know if he was before us putting the station there or not.
- 32:41But like I said, they followed all the trees.
- 32:44What I was told.
- 32:45And I had cut one down because the rats were jumping on the roof.
- 32:49And that was why I got it.
- 32:50I don't know what he got it for though, but I pretty much do.
- 32:52I, I got it.
- 32:54So for public peace of mind, is there anything that happens routinely,
- 32:57like do stations get blessed?
- 32:58Do we plant to leaf on corners?
- 33:00Well, I mean, we we have our resident experts that come around.
- 33:04We get advice from is like, hey, come check this place out.
- 33:07Take a look for us beyond.
- 33:09There are no special rituals.
- 33:10I mean, it's it's you know, they're these
- 33:14things are going to be where they choose to be no matter what.
- 33:17Like I said, somebody will follow you home.
- 33:20According to, some people that I've spoken to again at nine, or if you,
- 33:26Michelle, Michelle, Freydis,
- 33:29the safety lady, I called her over to come
- 33:32do a check, for a prep for our inspection.
- 33:35She refused to come into the station, so after after prodding her,
- 33:40she said, well, I can see things.
- 33:43She said last time I came in a station or something.
- 33:45Follow me home.
- 33:46So I convinced her to come in,
- 33:48and she came upstairs and said, hey, what do you see up here?
- 33:52She said, in our dorm upstairs, the men's dorm at nine.
- 33:56She said she seen people from dress from the Victorian
- 33:59era all the way up to modern day.
- 34:02Just all walking through like it's a crosswalk or something
- 34:06up in the upstairs dorm, going through that last door into the locker room.
- 34:12That first locker right there and that last bit.
- 34:15That's why a lot of guys will want to sleep on that last bit.
- 34:18So she said she saw all of that. So I mean
- 34:21they're
- 34:21everywhere right here sitting on your lap
- 34:25playing with your hair.
- 34:25You know, it's.
- 34:27On that note.
- 34:28Okay.
- 34:30Where will you will be on Halloween this year?
- 34:32On duty. On the. Winter.
- 34:35Time.
- 34:36Probably giving out candy.
- 34:38We live in Ohio, and there's a lot of kids in that area, so.
- 34:41Yeah. Well, thank you all for your time.
- 34:44Thank you, thank you.
- 34:45Yeah. And next week, it's on to the next holiday.
- 34:47We'll be talking all things Honolulu City Lights, which is expanding its footprint
- 34:51this year to include Thomas Square, probably also haunted.
- 34:54We'll have everything you need to know right here on the One or Who podcast.
- 34:57We wish you all spooky and sick Halloween. Mahalo for listening.
- 35:00Until next time, Aloha!
