- 0:55Speaker 3: we're interested in trading down. We're for sale. Thirty second pick.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Seahawks have only four picks, fewest in the NFL, which
- 1:00Speaker 3: is why they want to trade down and get more

- 2:05Speaker 3: right now, Mike Benton, the Captain pre postgame inner period
- 2:12Speaker 3: intermission host, joining us a day before Jason botterol the
- 2:16Speaker 3: general manager of the Kraken, is to speak at Northgate
- 2:19Speaker 3: about the state of the team and the team in
- 2:21Speaker 3: the big picture has missed the playoffs four in its
- 2:24Speaker 3: five years of existence, including this year Stanley Cup playoffs
- 2:27Speaker 3: that they are watching yet again. Hello Mike, Hello Greg,
- 2:32Speaker 3: how are you.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Congratulations, welcome back. Good to talk to you again.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I appreciate that.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Thank you. It's good to talk to guys like you regularly.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Once again. When Jason Botroll speaks tomorrow, if I were there, Mike,
- 2:44Speaker 3: I would ask, what's the number one thing you need
- 2:46Speaker 3: to fix to get the team of the playoffs. What
- 2:48Speaker 3: do you think that is? What do you think Jason
- 2:50Speaker 3: Botrow would say to that question.
- 2:54Speaker 4: I think what we're looking for Greg, out of tomorrow
- 2:59Speaker 4: is a comple revamp of this roster, and I think
- 3:02Speaker 4: that is something that's more aligned with the Lane Lambert attitude.
- 3:06Speaker 4: The Lane Lambert team I D which you know, they
- 3:09Speaker 4: play with more of an edge, they play with more bite,
- 3:12Speaker 4: they play with more attitude, and they've got some size.
- 3:15Speaker 4: But they've also got to add up front where Jason
- 3:18Speaker 4: Battolo goes with this, we just do not know.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I mean really, at.
- 3:22Speaker 4: This point on April twenty first, eleven o four am
- 3:24Speaker 4: talking about this, we just do not know, and we're
- 3:27Speaker 4: gonna here. I think a lot about this audit that's
- 3:29Speaker 4: going to happen within the next couple of weeks. Lane
- 3:33Speaker 4: Lambert mentioned last week that this is a time for
- 3:36Speaker 4: a lot of the internal meetings for this. If I
- 3:39Speaker 4: were a betting man, I think just kind of reading
- 3:43Speaker 4: between the lines of what Todd Liwiki mentioned when he
- 3:45Speaker 4: met with the media several days ago, I wouldn't be
- 3:49Speaker 4: surprised if they're looking at more of an aggressive roster
- 3:54Speaker 4: turnover then, just say, versus blowing the whole thing up
- 3:58Speaker 4: and going young all over the place.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I see merits here to both.
- 4:02Speaker 4: Arguments, and I think if you look at the way
- 4:04Speaker 4: that Chicago's done this and they're making strides with Connor
- 4:07Speaker 4: Badar and San Jose. They're going to be a problem
- 4:10Speaker 4: next year with mattlam Celebrini and Will Smith, the Ducks,
- 4:14Speaker 4: with Leo Carlson, the young guys they've got. They gave
- 4:17Speaker 4: Edmonton a scare and they're well coach. They showed that
- 4:21Speaker 4: last night hanging in there with Edmonton. But I just
- 4:24Speaker 4: think of the dynamics that play with where the Kraken
- 4:28Speaker 4: want to be and how they want to fast track
- 4:30Speaker 4: this right back on the winning path, given the cap
- 4:33Speaker 4: states that they're going to have, given the draft picks
- 4:35Speaker 4: that they can easily trade. I mean, I just think
- 4:38Speaker 4: that with you know, the course of action and the
- 4:41Speaker 4: attitude in which they've taken here, this is I think
- 4:44Speaker 4: where we're going to see the likeliest path of this.
- 4:47Speaker 4: But within the next couple of weeks that's going to
- 4:49Speaker 4: be basically confirmed out of Jason battle roll.
- 4:52Speaker 2: As far as where they want.
- 4:53Speaker 3: To go, that's coast. The voice of Mike Bennon, our captain,
- 4:56Speaker 3: our pre postgaming mission report host are on ninety three
- 5:01Speaker 3: point three KJRF. I'm going to begin plumbing hotline, Mike.
- 5:04Speaker 3: When I spoke to Todd Laiwiki when I was co
- 5:07Speaker 3: hosting with Ashley the Morning Show last week, I asked him,
- 5:11Speaker 3: wait a minute, what about this internal audit. How independent
- 5:14Speaker 3: can the audit be if it's being done by Jason Bottero,
- 5:16Speaker 3: led by the general manager who making all the decisions
- 5:19Speaker 3: a lot of them anyway in the last year. And
- 5:21Speaker 3: he said, well, we're going to bring an outside person in.
- 5:24Speaker 3: It's not right. Yeah, who's that outside person who does
- 5:28Speaker 3: todd liwiki, who did the crack and trust to come
- 5:31Speaker 3: in and clean up their shop and say do this?
- 5:33Speaker 2: Do that?
- 5:35Speaker 4: Well, if I can go back to this, you know,
- 5:38Speaker 4: phrasing of the independent audit, so the way that this works,
- 5:42Speaker 4: and we've learned this Ian Furness and I, you know,
- 5:45Speaker 4: we work hand in hand with somebody in the broadcast team.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Her name is Alison Luke and does a phenomenal job,
- 5:50Speaker 4: but she's had experience before, you know, outside of hockey
- 5:53Speaker 4: working in these kind of environments. And basically, if I
- 5:57Speaker 4: can just distill it down to this, a GM or
- 6:01Speaker 4: anybody else serves as a point person and that they
- 6:04Speaker 4: select the independence auditor coming in to examine every corner
- 6:09Speaker 4: of the organization. And so Jason Boterell, for the lack
- 6:12Speaker 4: of a better term, will be a stakeholder in this
- 6:14Speaker 4: and that he's going to be the point man running
- 6:16Speaker 4: this thing. And then individual coming in to run this world.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Then basically, you know, check every box. And I'm just
- 6:24Speaker 4: you know, I'm thinking about from you know, from small
- 6:28Speaker 4: stuff from you know, their their their travel, their schedule,
- 6:32Speaker 4: you know, the often the amount of times that players
- 6:35Speaker 4: are practicing versus wrestling, to the even the bigger picture
- 6:38Speaker 4: as far as drafting, developing the appropriate personnel in charge
- 6:42Speaker 4: of all of this, and you know, what ways that
- 6:45Speaker 4: they can improve. And I'm just using you know, the
- 6:48Speaker 4: the example of where they want to go and if
- 6:51Speaker 4: they want to aggressively overturn this roster, what can they
- 6:54Speaker 4: do to improve their environment to make this place more
- 6:58Speaker 4: attractive for free agents to come. The number one priority
- 7:03Speaker 4: that we hear a lot about in the NHL when
- 7:05Speaker 4: it comes to an attractive place for free agents or
- 7:09Speaker 4: guys who will move there away, their no trade clause,
- 7:12Speaker 4: no movement clause is are they going to go to
- 7:15Speaker 4: a winning program? And the facts of the crack and
- 7:17Speaker 4: have only made the playoffs once here in the first
- 7:19Speaker 4: five years, a shine of an expansion team has now gone.
- 7:22Speaker 2: So what you have to do.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Are work here, will basically work your corners in different areas,
- 7:27Speaker 4: whether it comes to the practice frequens is already one
- 7:30Speaker 4: of the greatest of the entire league, if not the
- 7:32Speaker 4: best one. And we talk about the Vancouver team that
- 7:35Speaker 4: doesn't even have one. That's a big issue for them.
- 7:37Speaker 4: But how they can you know, support players, you know,
- 7:41Speaker 4: you know, give more. I think of a better environment
- 7:44Speaker 4: would travel. What you're looking to do is work around
- 7:47Speaker 4: the edge, is to try to creatively make your place
- 7:52Speaker 4: better as a pitch for players who want to come here.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Our Timmy Penera one waves no Movement claus to come
- 7:59Speaker 4: from New York to hear La was basically the one
- 8:03Speaker 4: place he was going to go. But there are also
- 8:05Speaker 4: other areas of competition that crack I have to deal
- 8:07Speaker 4: with when it comes to the teams that they aren't,
- 8:10Speaker 4: say in the upper tier, like Colorado, Dallas, Vegas, Anaheim
- 8:15Speaker 4: is phil on the come up. They aren't in that
- 8:17Speaker 4: upper tier, but they play in a great place to
- 8:19Speaker 4: play with weather. San Jose is the same thing. Florida
- 8:21Speaker 4: is the same thing. Buffalo is going to get there
- 8:24Speaker 4: because they have a winning program that is on the rise.
- 8:27Speaker 4: I look at Utah also as an example where they're
- 8:29Speaker 4: in a landlocked state and yet they're finding ways to creatively,
- 8:34Speaker 4: you know, foster an environment where players want to come.
- 8:37Speaker 4: So this is essentially back to a square one proposition.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Who comes in?
- 8:42Speaker 4: That's very much unknown if I can get to this
- 8:45Speaker 4: in a roundabout way, But this is something I think
- 8:47Speaker 4: that we're going to find a little bit more out
- 8:48Speaker 4: of in the next few days. What's going to I
- 8:51Speaker 4: think dry the decision making here in the next a
- 8:53Speaker 4: month or so.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Mike, you say it's a rebuild. Who's leading is a
- 8:57Speaker 3: guy like Ellie Tolvenan who's still twenty seven years old,
- 9:02Speaker 3: but he's a free agent? Does he come back? Jerry
- 9:05Speaker 3: McCann was vocal at the end of season, got hurt
- 9:07Speaker 3: vocal with the younger players about how the Kraken folded
- 9:10Speaker 3: down the stretch. His contract ends after next year, he's
- 9:13Speaker 3: thirty years old. Who leaves? Who comes in? More so, though,
- 9:17Speaker 3: who would they retain and who leaves?
- 9:19Speaker 4: You think, well, I would first stop short of calling
- 9:22Speaker 4: it a rebuild, because I would only go there if
- 9:25Speaker 4: they're going to be basically showing out every UFA contract
- 9:29Speaker 4: year and say we're just going to start all over here.
- 9:31Speaker 4: If they're going to lean more toward the retool part
- 9:35Speaker 4: of this, Greg, I think you bring a lot of
- 9:37Speaker 4: the UFAs into question, because that's going to alleviate a
- 9:41Speaker 4: lot of your cap space. And I think what got
- 9:43Speaker 4: back to me is that Laine Landert basically said in
- 9:47Speaker 4: his end of season media availability last year the personality
- 9:52Speaker 4: of this, and he said, quote, we have a quiet
- 9:55Speaker 4: locker room end quote. And I think he tried to
- 9:58Speaker 4: I think maybe hadge a bit with how much personality
- 10:01Speaker 4: he wanted to add. But I will go back and
- 10:05Speaker 4: think of how many times that they came out flat
- 10:08Speaker 4: after the Olympic break when the pressure gets cranked up,
- 10:13Speaker 4: the energy has got to get cranked up in the
- 10:15Speaker 4: crank and words just splat out of the gate and
- 10:17Speaker 4: eventually it cost him two points that night. Brandon Monteor's
- 10:20Speaker 4: one example for me. I think of the kind of
- 10:22Speaker 4: guys that maybe they want to bring in. Well, I
- 10:25Speaker 4: think understand the balance of you know, not getting too high,
- 10:30Speaker 4: not getting too low. But if there was one player
- 10:33Speaker 4: I remember approaching over and over this past season in
- 10:38Speaker 4: the room and he injected energy, he injected life, that
- 10:43Speaker 4: was Brandon Montour.
- 10:45Speaker 2: So who goes out the door?
- 10:46Speaker 4: I think as a matter of question, you know, I
- 10:48Speaker 4: think if they're gonna be changing over the defensive cores
- 10:52Speaker 4: on this, Jamie Alexiak's no obvious candidate where you got
- 10:55Speaker 4: to sit you have to say goodbye to him. Jayden Schwartz,
- 10:59Speaker 4: I'm curious with Dodger based on who they've gone coming in,
- 11:02Speaker 4: you know, not on the younger side, but when you
- 11:04Speaker 4: have maybe in your top six and the goal to
- 11:06Speaker 4: add in your top six, you know, there's that chance
- 11:09Speaker 4: to ask where does he fit in? I don't know,
- 11:12Speaker 4: and I think his answer back at last week's media
- 11:15Speaker 4: availability didn't really I think, give a vote of confidence
- 11:19Speaker 4: that he's looking to come back. He says he loved
- 11:21Speaker 4: the opportunity to but you know it was very much
- 11:24Speaker 4: a hedging kind of answer. Then your contract here, guys,
- 11:28Speaker 4: are a big question as well, because once that contract
- 11:31Speaker 4: year begins to tick, did he begin to lose value
- 11:34Speaker 4: with what you want to you know, acquire and being
- 11:36Speaker 4: able to flip a certain player for something that would
- 11:39Speaker 4: upgrade maybe your top six. So Jera mccam's going to
- 11:42Speaker 4: be in that picture. Philip Grubauer is going to be
- 11:45Speaker 4: in that picture, et cetera, et cetera. Bottom line, this
- 11:48Speaker 4: is going to be a big summer a change, and
- 11:50Speaker 4: I think ultimately it's going to come down to the
- 11:52Speaker 4: internal conversations with number one, who wants to be back here?
- 11:56Speaker 2: Number two?
- 11:56Speaker 4: Are they accepting to be back in a certain role
- 11:59Speaker 4: that they can play?
- 12:01Speaker 3: But Lane Lambert is coming back ton Whywickie told me that,
- 12:05Speaker 3: and I think that's been reiterated by a few people. Now,
- 12:08Speaker 3: what is it about Lane Lambert that you see that
- 12:10Speaker 3: works for this group or could get them to where
- 12:13Speaker 3: they're trying to get or is it a matter if
- 12:15Speaker 3: they didn't want to have a third coach in three
- 12:17Speaker 3: years and they just needed some continuity behind the bench.
- 12:21Speaker 4: Well, I think it doesn't make sense, Greg if you
- 12:23Speaker 4: want to, you know, go right back and start all
- 12:26Speaker 4: over again by hiring a third head coach in three years.
- 12:29Speaker 4: But on top of that, Lane Lambert was absolutely phenomenal
- 12:33Speaker 4: with what he did this year with this team. And
- 12:35Speaker 4: for you know, the exception of you know, Mason Marsman
- 12:39Speaker 4: coming in, Ryan lynn Gren who lives in and out
- 12:42Speaker 4: of the lineup over the last couple of weeks, Matt
- 12:45Speaker 4: Murray who they brought it and really didn't play after November.
- 12:49Speaker 4: This was largely an unchanged group all year. Going back
- 12:54Speaker 4: to this last off season, when you bring in Lane Lambert,
- 12:59Speaker 4: you brought a guy in who was looking to instill
- 13:02Speaker 4: a change of attitude. Play with more of an edge, play,
- 13:05Speaker 4: with more bite play, also with defensive structure, and the
- 13:09Speaker 4: numbers proved that for the most part this season they
- 13:11Speaker 4: did that. Goals against that roughly two point eight was
- 13:16Speaker 4: better before. They just took a downturn for numerous reasons
- 13:19Speaker 4: after the Olympic break and the structure that they played with.
- 13:22Speaker 4: You're looking to dial it back from going for broken
- 13:25Speaker 4: winning sixty five, five, four, seven, six and winning at
- 13:28Speaker 4: a most sensible.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Pace of say three to two to two one games.
- 13:31Speaker 4: That defensive structure also was a better environment suited for
- 13:35Speaker 4: their goaltending. Before the Olympic break, great they were fifth
- 13:38Speaker 4: best in the NHL. Goaltending was at nine toh one.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Philip grew Bauer was the third best goalie in the
- 13:42Speaker 4: NHL in nine to one six. Afterward, you have certain
- 13:46Speaker 4: breakdowns and then you have Groo Bower's numbers. Take a
- 13:49Speaker 4: bit of a dial back and Joey the court fell
- 13:51Speaker 4: beneath nine zero zero suboptimal, if I can use that
- 13:55Speaker 4: phrase here. But I think with the kind of attitude
- 13:58Speaker 4: he's brought in, I think it really dragged some, you know,
- 14:02Speaker 4: some clusters of groups in this room into the fight.
- 14:05Speaker 4: They found themselves more competitive, and they found themselves better
- 14:08Speaker 4: also in back to back games, and that was a big,
- 14:10Speaker 4: big thing they wanted to address before they made this
- 14:13Speaker 4: move to higher lane. Lambert and I said that before.
- 14:15Speaker 4: I'll say it again.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Now.
- 14:17Speaker 4: When you have a coach who can play with defensive structure,
- 14:20Speaker 4: and you know, one of my colleagues, you know, John Foresln,
- 14:23Speaker 4: used the phrase dumb down the game. Maybe offensively, that's okay,
- 14:28Speaker 4: because a push in position to win two to one game, three,
- 14:31Speaker 4: two games. They did a lot of that, and they
- 14:33Speaker 4: went last year from a goose sag for twelve in
- 14:36Speaker 4: the back end of back to back games. Now they
- 14:39Speaker 4: basically made, you know, nearly a twelve point improvement.
- 14:43Speaker 2: They've been five to six into in back to back games.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Those are hard games to win and it's like a
- 14:48Speaker 4: bit to get the hang of it. But right around
- 14:50Speaker 4: December they really began to kind of understand. I think,
- 14:55Speaker 4: I think the gravity once they have to instill on
- 14:58Speaker 4: a lot of teams defense the trust in their system,
- 15:02Speaker 4: and then they began to rip off wins over and over.
- 15:05Speaker 4: So I mean, beyond the shadow of a dal Greg
- 15:07Speaker 4: this is the least of their concerns, and you know,
- 15:10Speaker 4: I think the right move to give Lane Lambert a
- 15:12Speaker 4: vote of confidence and with more of the tweaks that
- 15:15Speaker 4: we're I think going to see for this offseason, potentially
- 15:17Speaker 4: this is going to I think kind of feedback into
- 15:19Speaker 4: the machine of trying to make this team even better
- 15:21Speaker 4: and get them back into the playoffs.
- 15:23Speaker 3: Mike ben and showing us on the Beacon plumbing Highland
- 15:25Speaker 3: a day before Jason Bartol the Cracking GM is going
- 15:28Speaker 3: to have a press conference. We'll care it live tomorrow
- 15:30Speaker 3: on the show. It's supposed to start eleven o'clock at
- 15:32Speaker 3: Northgate at the ice Plex, about the state of the
- 15:35Speaker 3: Krack and who've missed the playoffs four of their five
- 15:37Speaker 3: years have existence? You mentioned Joey to Cord, Philip Krubauer's
- 15:39Speaker 3: struggles and goal later in the season. Do you think
- 15:42Speaker 3: they're both coming back? And what about Matt Murray former
- 15:45Speaker 3: Penguin and now what it's thirty into his thirties, what
- 15:48Speaker 3: are they doing at goaltender. Do you think their status
- 15:50Speaker 3: quota will run it back?
- 15:52Speaker 2: Yeah, good, good question, Greg.
- 15:54Speaker 4: I think that's one of the big topics of conversation
- 15:56Speaker 4: that is going to maybe I think drive this for
- 16:00Speaker 4: tomorrow and deeper into the offseason. I mean, honestly, Joey
- 16:03Speaker 4: dcor has got a longer term contract.
- 16:05Speaker 2: I don't see him moving on.
- 16:07Speaker 4: Gru Bauer is a big question mark for me, and
- 16:08Speaker 4: I would hate to see him move on. But a
- 16:10Speaker 4: matter of fact is that he's got a one year
- 16:13Speaker 4: deal left on, you know, a long term contract that
- 16:16Speaker 4: he signed, and he's also getting up there in age.
- 16:20Speaker 4: So where are they going with him? I don't know,
- 16:23Speaker 4: but beyond the shadow of a doubt, he was their
- 16:25Speaker 4: best goalie from this past season. I would hate to
- 16:28Speaker 4: see him move on, But of course that's you know,
- 16:31Speaker 4: way above our pay grades in regards to that. Matt
- 16:33Speaker 4: Murray is a big question mark for me. They brought
- 16:35Speaker 4: him in for a couple of reasons. I think number one,
- 16:38Speaker 4: and in fact they had to use him maybe in
- 16:40Speaker 4: the back to back situation in case somebody broke down.
- 16:43Speaker 4: But also number two, Jason Botterl sat out, you know
- 16:45Speaker 4: several months back even into the summer when they signed
- 16:48Speaker 4: Matt Murray and it was to drive competition. To Philip
- 16:52Speaker 4: grew Bauer's credit, he responded, I mean the numbers were
- 16:55Speaker 4: in the tank about fifteen months ago. For him, he
- 16:59Speaker 4: had to go down to Coachelle Valley. He had to
- 17:01Speaker 4: kind of hit the reset button a little bit. Working
- 17:04Speaker 4: with Colin Zulianello, who they brought in as a new
- 17:06Speaker 4: goalie coach this year, made a big difference. And the
- 17:08Speaker 4: structure with with what Lane Lambert put in was a
- 17:12Speaker 4: better environment for him and for Joey to court, and
- 17:15Speaker 4: it was the court who had a bit of a
- 17:16Speaker 4: bumpier ride this season.
- 17:18Speaker 2: But Grubauer was the least of their concerns.
- 17:21Speaker 4: But I think if you look back at this, the
- 17:22Speaker 4: bigger picture is going to be how do they add
- 17:25Speaker 4: up front because they have the structure in place, they
- 17:27Speaker 4: have defensive pieces in place, and do they have to
- 17:30Speaker 4: get bigger and stronger. I certainly think so. And again
- 17:32Speaker 4: there were too many games I think that where they
- 17:34Speaker 4: were a bit more bully balled out of the game,
- 17:37Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Less and versus last season.
- 17:39Speaker 4: But without question, offensive firepower is the number one question
- 17:43Speaker 4: mark of this team because it's going to get much
- 17:44Speaker 4: more offensive support for who they've got in goal with
- 17:47Speaker 4: you know, Grubauer and the court. And we'll see about that.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Matt Murray as of right now, but he's an a
- 17:52Speaker 4: one year deal. Would he be surprised, would it be
- 17:54Speaker 4: surprised to see him move on? I don't think so,
- 17:57Speaker 4: but we'll find out here very very soon.
- 17:58Speaker 3: By in July one, Mike, you mentioned Anaheim given scared
- 18:02Speaker 3: of Edmonton leading three two in the third period, us
- 18:05Speaker 3: at Anaheim has a really good mix of young players
- 18:08Speaker 3: and old players and guys older players, experienced players that
- 18:12Speaker 3: can still play. Is that a blueprint? Do you look
- 18:15Speaker 3: at what teams in the playoffs? Do you see is like, oh,
- 18:18Speaker 3: this is this is a reachable goal for the crack
- 18:20Speaker 3: and they could model themselves structure their rosters like these guys.
- 18:26Speaker 4: Absolutely, I think Anaheim is a blueprint. I mean I think,
- 18:29Speaker 4: I mean, really, Greg, Edmonton and Colorado are the gold
- 18:32Speaker 4: standard with how they built themselves into perennial contenders because
- 18:37Speaker 4: you know, of course, they got into the fortune of
- 18:40Speaker 4: getting the first overall pick and they got generational talent
- 18:44Speaker 4: in Conor McDavid of the Edmonton side, and Nathan McKennon
- 18:48Speaker 4: for Colorado, and I would put Maplin Celebrini in.
- 18:50Speaker 2: There as well.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Two percent, Jose, they're out of the playoffs, drag, but
- 18:53Speaker 4: I mean, I think we all know in the hockey
- 18:55Speaker 4: world they're coming next year and they're going to be
- 18:58Speaker 4: a massive, massive problem.
- 19:00Speaker 2: The difference between them and I would.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Say there and in the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto
- 19:05Speaker 4: got Offtin Matthews first. Overall about ten years ago is
- 19:09Speaker 4: how they built around these teams. They were able to
- 19:12Speaker 4: draft smart, and they added a little bit more as
- 19:14Speaker 4: far as that are in presence, and they hired the
- 19:16Speaker 4: right coach as well here for each of these situations.
- 19:20Speaker 4: So I go back and look at the Anaheim case,
- 19:23Speaker 4: where about four years ago they had to tear this
- 19:26Speaker 4: whole thing down.
- 19:27Speaker 2: They had aging stars moving out.
- 19:29Speaker 4: They were on the last days of Ryan Getz laugh
- 19:32Speaker 4: Troy Terry good piece, but he needed more and they
- 19:34Speaker 4: found a way to get into third. Overall, got Leo Carlson,
- 19:38Speaker 4: Patford Beechton made a major swing and his team made
- 19:42Speaker 4: a major swing at the draft about a couple of
- 19:45Speaker 4: or about a couple drafts ago in Beckett, Seneca and
- 19:48Speaker 4: by many, many, many accounts. He was due to be
- 19:53Speaker 4: maybe twenty eighth, twenty ninth, maybe thirtieth, And they went
- 19:58Speaker 4: and grabbed him third over all back in twenty twenty four,
- 20:02Speaker 4: and what do you know, twenty year old now twenty
- 20:05Speaker 4: three goals and sixty points in eighty two games.
- 20:08Speaker 2: In his rookie campaign.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Then they added somebody else at fifth overall name or
- 20:13Speaker 4: as beg your pardon, threw a trade in cuttergotiate and
- 20:16Speaker 4: they got him from Philadelphia Jackson Lacombe. Great pickup on
- 20:20Speaker 4: their back end. Defenseman take a bit longer to develop.
- 20:24Speaker 4: He was, you know, second rounder back in twenty nineteen,
- 20:27Speaker 4: but here he is all of a sudden now pushing
- 20:29Speaker 4: sixty points and double digits and goals. Olwen Zelweger former
- 20:33Speaker 4: Everest silver tip. They got him as well. He's going
- 20:36Speaker 4: to be very very good on their back end for
- 20:38Speaker 4: years to come. So as these kids begin small, you
- 20:42Speaker 4: think small, you think less about the wins and losses,
- 20:45Speaker 4: and more about how they're developing with key if time,
- 20:48Speaker 4: that's big.
- 20:49Speaker 2: So when they began to come into.
- 20:51Speaker 4: Their own more, they went out got aggressive at a
- 20:54Speaker 4: Chris Kreider who played years upon years with major playoff runs.
- 20:58Speaker 2: For the New York Rangers.
- 21:00Speaker 4: A thirty four was a great pick up for them
- 21:02Speaker 4: this season. Radco gutas on their back end Listen, you
- 21:05Speaker 4: can argue over and over about you know you be
- 21:10Speaker 4: on the edge.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Yes, is a dirty every time.
- 21:13Speaker 4: No, but his leadership is tried and true, it's proven,
- 21:16Speaker 4: and A thirty five he was great for them. They
- 21:19Speaker 4: went and got Jacob Truba as well for the.
- 21:21Speaker 2: New York Rangers. Alice Calorin as.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Well from Tampa Bay. So what they did is that
- 21:25Speaker 4: they insulated this roster. The rock stars of this group
- 21:28Speaker 4: of the young kids goa Cha Carlson, Seneca, et cetera.
- 21:32Speaker 4: But they're insulating them with proven talent who can play
- 21:36Speaker 4: more in depth positions and have been through the fight
- 21:38Speaker 4: before in the playoffs. That's a great blueprint to do.
- 21:42Speaker 4: So as long, bottom line, you're drafting smart. You're finding
- 21:46Speaker 4: somebody who can be not just in your top six,
- 21:49Speaker 4: but be a top line guy. That's more and more
- 21:52Speaker 4: often where we are seeing teams really begin to separate
- 21:55Speaker 4: themselves here from the pack. So you know, as far
- 21:58Speaker 4: as last night, Greg I watched that haf of the game.
- 22:00Speaker 4: They gave Evanson a scare McDavid didn't have a single
- 22:04Speaker 4: point in that contest.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Make of bad as you will.
- 22:06Speaker 4: But they're going to be around for a long long
- 22:08Speaker 4: time for sure, and they've got talent.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Certainly it's going to be on the rise.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Our Anaheim Ducks beat writer Mike Benton, join us. Thanks Mike.

- 23:27Speaker 3: about We talked a lot about the draft of running
- 23:30Speaker 3: back situation. We asked you at the top of the
- 23:33Speaker 3: show and the Tacoma Dog's text fine four nine four
- 23:35Speaker 3: to five one or on the YouTube comment page. Although
- 23:38Speaker 3: some people on the text line saying the YouTube page
- 23:40Speaker 3: wasn't rolling for our shows today. They can't see our
- 23:43Speaker 3: smiling faces. Some people are saying, Chris, I don't know
- 23:45Speaker 3: about that, but there are and there's an opportunity to
- 23:48Speaker 3: ask questions on the chat of the iHeart as well
- 23:51Speaker 3: on the YouTube page. But we asked Seahawks, what do
- 23:54Speaker 3: you want him to do? What do you want the
- 23:56Speaker 3: Seahawks to do with the first pick? Do you want
- 23:57Speaker 3: them to trade it? You think they will? What would
- 23:59Speaker 3: you so I can take? Who? If you have someone
- 24:01Speaker 3: in mind? Would you like to take? And there's some
- 24:03Speaker 3: Mariner comments on there as well.
- 24:06Speaker 5: Never short of Mariner comments, you we should know better
- 24:09Speaker 5: in terms of talk Mariners.
- 24:12Speaker 3: You see what happens.
- 24:13Speaker 5: You read the one from Marcus earlier. We got another
- 24:18Speaker 5: one from Michael two five to three. We still have
- 24:21Speaker 5: kem akers. Question Mark totally forgot about Acres.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Former lead running back of the Rams, was on the
- 24:28Speaker 3: practice squad at the end of last year and he
- 24:30Speaker 3: actually was activated for the Super Bowl. He and Vellas
- 24:33Speaker 3: Jones both were because of the injuries. Yes they do.
- 24:37Speaker 3: They've resigned him on a one year.
- 24:38Speaker 5: Contract from Mason out of the three six. So I'm
- 24:42Speaker 5: not worried about the Mariners yet. After Memorial Day we
- 24:45Speaker 5: should have a decent idea on what the holes need
- 24:48Speaker 5: to be filled and if they need to shake things up.
- 24:51Speaker 5: Come All Star breaks, when we'll know what type of
- 24:53Speaker 5: season it'll be and what they should be doing at
- 24:56Speaker 5: the trade deadline. After deadline is when it's make or
- 24:59Speaker 5: break for this team.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd say that's probably. And we've seen that Jerry
- 25:05Speaker 3: Depode and friends have gotten guys at the debt. They've
- 25:09Speaker 3: been very active. You cannot criticize them for not trying
- 25:11Speaker 3: to make moves in the middle of the season and
- 25:14Speaker 3: Randy Rose Arena and Luis Castillo and a.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Lot of others.
- 25:18Speaker 3: So they they tried. They do try to augment the team,
- 25:20Speaker 3: and they're pretty aggressive the trade deadline. So that's that's
- 25:23Speaker 3: pretty good. This is interesting from the two five to three.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Rumor has it that the Rams. That's always good, but
- 25:30Speaker 3: rumor has it that the Rams may try to trade
- 25:32Speaker 3: to thirty or thirty one to get Ty Simpson, the
- 25:34Speaker 3: quarterback from Alabama. Of course Matthew Stafford with the back
- 25:36Speaker 3: issue and the fact he's in his mid thirties and
- 25:39Speaker 3: won't play forever. That's interesting. There is another one on here.
- 25:44Speaker 3: I don't have it in front of me. I think
- 25:45Speaker 3: it was from the two six who said, no way,
- 25:48Speaker 3: they're trading within the division. And we asked when we
- 25:51Speaker 3: talked about the Cardinals trading back two picks with the
- 25:54Speaker 3: Cardinals to in case the Cardinals wanted to jump up
- 25:56Speaker 3: to get Simpson at the end A round one. We
- 25:59Speaker 3: asked John Snyder about the yesterday and he said, we ah,
- 26:02Speaker 3: I don't care. We'll trade within the division. We have
- 26:04Speaker 3: great relationships with all the teams in the division. We've
- 26:06Speaker 3: traded within the division before and they have. And Brady
- 26:11Speaker 3: Henderson of ESPN dot Com ask him, would you trade
- 26:13Speaker 3: within the division for if that team was interested in
- 26:16Speaker 3: the quarterback? And he said, yeah, I would. I know
- 26:21Speaker 3: what you're trying to do there. He laughed, knowing that
- 26:23Speaker 3: he was talking about the Cardinals. But that is probably
- 26:26Speaker 3: the scenario the team, the most likely scenario, the cleanest scenario,
- 26:30Speaker 3: team would try to trade into the first ground because
- 26:32Speaker 3: of the reasons we spoke about earlier. Teams like to
- 26:35Speaker 3: get quarterbacks in the first round, so they had the
- 26:37Speaker 3: fifth year option at their disposal. If that quarterback happens
- 26:40Speaker 3: to hit over the next three four years, you could
- 26:43Speaker 3: get him and keep him under contract for a fifth
- 26:45Speaker 3: year and one year on the fifth year option. And
- 26:49Speaker 3: that's why teams trade back in the first round to
- 26:51Speaker 3: do that. And John Schneider said, yeah, we'll do that
- 26:54Speaker 3: within the division. He said that used to be taboo
- 26:56Speaker 3: and frowned upon, and not anymore. And he doesn't it
- 27:00Speaker 3: should matter.
- 27:02Speaker 5: From the four to two five, My ideal scenario, Seahawks
- 27:05Speaker 5: trade down to thirty four, then trade to thirty nine,
- 27:08Speaker 5: they acquire picks sixty five and seventy from the Cardinals.
- 27:10Speaker 5: In Browns Shanxi had picked thirty nine and sixty four
- 27:13Speaker 5: and the second round and then picked sixty five to
- 27:15Speaker 5: seventy ninety eight in rown three. Also, I'm a little
- 27:19Speaker 5: bit concerned about the Mariners, and I can point out
- 27:21Speaker 5: what's wrong, what's working, we all see that, but there's
- 27:24Speaker 5: just a feeling. I got the vibe fills off with
- 27:26Speaker 5: this team.
- 27:29Speaker 3: Good point four to five. I've got him trading thirty
- 27:31Speaker 3: nine with the Browns. But if they and Schneider has
- 27:34Speaker 3: done this, he did it the year after the Seahawks
- 27:37Speaker 3: won the Super Bowl, the last time they won the
- 27:39Speaker 3: Super Bowl twenty thirteen season. Then twenty fourteen draft, he
- 27:42Speaker 3: did exactly what four two five is talking about. He
- 27:45Speaker 3: traded back with Minnesota. Minnesota drafted Teddy Bridgewater at thirty two.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Then Schneider took the picks he got from Minnesota and
- 27:53Speaker 3: traded back again and got more picks. Now, all those
- 27:56Speaker 3: picks turned out to not really pan out. For my cash.
- 27:58Speaker 3: As marsh was played three season with the Seahawks. He
- 28:01Speaker 3: was one of those picks in the fourth round from
- 28:03Speaker 3: that Hall of picks by trading back twice. Any others,
- 28:06Speaker 3: Caro Small, the fullback who didn't pan out, Garrett Scott
- 28:10Speaker 3: was a tackle who never played because of a hard issue.
- 28:13Speaker 3: But that is the precedent, the last, the only other
- 28:16Speaker 3: time this franchise has been in this situation. He did
- 28:19Speaker 3: exactly what fourty five just said, traded back twice, got
- 28:22Speaker 3: four picks out of it.
- 28:24Speaker 5: From the two five to three Mariners will still win
- 28:26Speaker 5: the division by at least ten games, But man, are
- 28:29Speaker 5: they frustrating to watch?
- 28:31Speaker 3: That may be true? Maybe right Well, like you said,
- 28:36Speaker 3: they only takes one big, decent winning streak and with
- 28:40Speaker 3: the pitching, absolutely yeah.
- 28:41Speaker 5: It's just I guess when are they going to do that?
- 28:44Speaker 5: Is it going to be this month?
- 28:46Speaker 2: May?
- 28:47Speaker 5: So we'll see from our guy Keith two five to three.
- 28:50Speaker 5: These are Mariners fans. The flag starts red and if
- 28:54Speaker 5: they play well, it may shift to yellow. I hope
- 28:59Speaker 5: you're wrong there. I hope they're not red flags right now,
- 29:01Speaker 5: But then I know, I think about it. A Mariner
- 29:02Speaker 5: fans are really tough, and can you blame them never
- 29:06Speaker 5: being into a World Series. That's a that's tough to do.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Thanks for the kind note, Keith. I see it won't,
- 29:12Speaker 3: but I appreciate that. The one point I want to
- 29:14Speaker 3: make about the Seahawks are trading back twice and perhaps
- 29:16Speaker 3: getting four extra picks in this draft. John Schneider has
- 29:19Speaker 3: gone on record a couple times said it again yesterday,
- 29:21Speaker 3: this is not a strong draft. He's seen it as
- 29:23Speaker 3: a weak draft. It's why he's traded multiple times to
- 29:26Speaker 3: get rid of his picks. The reason why he has
- 29:28Speaker 3: four picks in this draft isn't that he just woke
- 29:30Speaker 3: up in March and said, oh my gosh, when they
- 29:32Speaker 3: have four picks. He traded two third day picks to
- 29:34Speaker 3: get Rashichi. November, he traded a pick to get Nick Harrison,
- 29:39Speaker 3: then got Nick Harris back from Cleveland, gave him back.
- 29:42Speaker 3: He's traded multiple times, multiple players to lose these picks,
- 29:46Speaker 3: and that's why he only has four because years ago
- 29:50Speaker 3: they saw this draft as being weak. They see next
- 29:52Speaker 3: draft as being strong, and they have twelve picks.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Wailah.
- 29:55Speaker 3: They kind of have them know what they're doing. They
- 29:58Speaker 3: have a few picks when they don't think it's a
- 30:00Speaker 3: good draft. They've a lot of picks with it next
- 30:01Speaker 3: year when they think it's good.
- 30:03Speaker 5: Setting themselves up the right way from the two OL six. Hey, Greg,
- 30:07Speaker 5: the Seahawks have about thirty million in effective cap space.
- 30:12Speaker 5: What are they saving it for? Is there some trade
- 30:14Speaker 5: down the line? What's going on here?
- 30:17Speaker 3: Yeah, good question. They do have a decent amount of
- 30:21Speaker 3: caps caps, especially for them. It's actually the what is it,
- 30:23Speaker 3: third six, it's the eighth most cap space in the
- 30:27Speaker 3: league at thirty two points seven nine to two million dollars.
- 30:31Speaker 3: Some of it not a lot, but some of it's
- 30:32Speaker 3: going to Devin Witherspoon. He's gonna get that deal in July.
- 30:35Speaker 3: He's going to get an extension. It's going to be
- 30:36Speaker 3: worth thirty million on average per year. Thirty one million
- 30:40Speaker 3: is right now the top cornerback, and that's Trent McDuffie.
- 30:44Speaker 3: After the trade from the Chiefs to the Rams, you're
- 30:47Speaker 3: looking at least thirty thirty one million a year for Witherspoon.
- 30:50Speaker 3: Not all of it, of course, will be due in
- 30:52Speaker 3: cap in the first year this year, but that's some
- 30:55Speaker 3: of it. Just like Jackson Smith and Jigba's extension took
- 30:57Speaker 3: up some of it. I mentioned the Naji Harra a
- 31:00Speaker 3: free agent visit. He wouldn't cost a lot of money.
- 31:02Speaker 3: He'd be barely above veteran minimum of one point one
- 31:05Speaker 3: million coming off in an achilles tear. But that's another option.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Here's something that we don't always talk about, Chris John
- 31:12Speaker 3: Schneider is setting aside money to make a trade in
- 31:15Speaker 3: October before the deadline. When you make trades for guys
- 31:18Speaker 3: like Leonard Williams Rashid Shaheed, you have to take on
- 31:24Speaker 3: his money for the rest of that season, So you
- 31:26Speaker 3: have to have the cap space to absorb that. And
- 31:28Speaker 3: when it's a good player, a great player in the
- 31:30Speaker 3: case of Leonard Williams, you have to have the cap
- 31:34Speaker 3: space available to do that without cutting guys and disrupting
- 31:37Speaker 3: your team. You keep that aside. Now the Snyder has
- 31:40Speaker 3: the luxury of being able to keep that money set
- 31:42Speaker 3: aside because he has a Super Bowl team that's coming back.
- 31:46Speaker 3: He's got ten of eleven starters on offense kind of
- 31:49Speaker 3: Walker being the one loan departure, and he's got all
- 31:51Speaker 3: eleven starters on defense if you count the fact that
- 31:54Speaker 3: Josh Job was in fact the starter over Riek Wollan.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Now Wollen end up playing seventy five percent of the
- 31:58Speaker 3: snaps in a three man rotation two corner spots. But
- 32:01Speaker 3: they have by definition, all eleven starters back on the
- 32:04Speaker 3: top ranked defense in the league last year, and ten
- 32:07Speaker 3: of eleven starters on offense. So he can set aside
- 32:10Speaker 3: money for October knowing he's got a Super Bowl champion roster,
- 32:14Speaker 3: and that's what he's doing. So when you see that
- 32:17Speaker 3: he's got thirty plus men, yes he does, but he's
- 32:19Speaker 3: gonna pay Witherspoon. He's gonna sign a running back most likely,
- 32:23Speaker 3: he's probably gonna sign a veteran defensive tackle or some
- 32:25Speaker 3: depth on the defensive line, and he's setting aside money
- 32:28Speaker 3: to make a splash move. When he wants to adjust
- 32:30Speaker 3: his team, he calls that part of his roster building.
- 32:33Speaker 3: He builds in, hey, here's where our season's headed. Here's
- 32:37Speaker 3: where our holes were that we didn't think we had,
- 32:39Speaker 3: but now we do. And in October, we're not just
- 32:41Speaker 3: going to sit back and say, well, let's see how
- 32:42Speaker 3: this plays out. We're gonna go fill those holes. And
- 32:45Speaker 3: that's what he did with Shaheed. That's what he did
- 32:48Speaker 3: with Leonard Williams. He did it with Carlos Dunlap a
- 32:51Speaker 3: few years ago with the Bengals. He brought in an
- 32:52Speaker 3: edge rusher. That's how he plays. And so that's where
- 32:56Speaker 3: some of this money's going to go. I stumped you.
- 33:04Speaker 3: What else do we have.
- 33:06Speaker 5: Let's see Dan Wilson is the problem from Joel. Let's
- 33:09Speaker 5: try to play some small ball. This is getting ridiculous.
- 33:14Speaker 3: Yeah, that's small ball. The analytics guys they don't do
- 33:17Speaker 3: small ball. They just don't want to sacrifice outs. They
- 33:20Speaker 3: just don't. The guys with the iPads. A lot of
- 33:24Speaker 3: what Dan Wilson does is the guys with the iPads
- 33:26Speaker 3: tell them to do it. Those I've spoken to inside
- 33:29Speaker 3: the Mariners they are a very analytic driven team. The
- 33:31Speaker 3: whole right righty, righty, lefty, lefty and opposite pinch hitting
- 33:35Speaker 3: when there's a left handed coming out of the bullpen
- 33:37Speaker 3: and all of it. Take out the guy who's just
- 33:40Speaker 3: smoking the ball the whole game because he's not the
- 33:42Speaker 3: right handed or left handed batter you need opposite the pitcher.
- 33:45Speaker 3: That's where they're wedded to and it drives fans. No,
- 33:49Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, there is an element of the game
- 33:52Speaker 3: that I think you should just watch. What are your
- 33:53Speaker 3: eyes and your gut telling you? They don't do eyes
- 33:55Speaker 3: and gut they do analytics. Analytics hate stolen bases and bunting.
- 34:01Speaker 3: They consider it not worth the risk risk reward calculation.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Analytics says, don't do it. You're giving away outs, so
- 34:10Speaker 3: they don't. I think it should be just a set
- 34:13Speaker 3: rule that in the extra ending game runouts second, nobody out.
- 34:16Speaker 3: It's a bunt because you can't count on your guys
- 34:18Speaker 3: to hit the ball on the right side of the
- 34:19Speaker 3: infield to move the runner of the third. That's a
- 34:21Speaker 3: fundamental baseball move. Runout second and fewer than two outs,
- 34:24Speaker 3: that ball should be hit to the right side so
- 34:27Speaker 3: the runner can get the third. Maybe ten percent of
- 34:30Speaker 3: the time we see the Mariners do that. I think
- 34:32Speaker 3: this team, the Mariners, should have a hard and fast
- 34:34Speaker 3: rule bunt to lead off an extra ding when you
- 34:38Speaker 3: have a runnout second, nobody out to get that guy
- 34:40Speaker 3: to third. But then you know what will happen buying
- 34:43Speaker 3: large the next guy up with a runner third and
- 34:45Speaker 3: one out, it's going to try to yank the ball
- 34:46Speaker 3: to mercer island. He's going to strike out and there's
- 34:48Speaker 3: two outs and your bunt did no good When all
- 34:51Speaker 3: you need is to put the ball in play. They're
- 34:53Speaker 3: trying to yank at the north gate and Mercer Island
- 34:55Speaker 3: and boom two outs, runner third, three outs, ending over.
- 35:00Speaker 3: That's the problem. It's what you if you do bunt
- 35:03Speaker 3: small ball at what's the next guy do When all
- 35:06Speaker 3: you have to do is put the ball and play
- 35:07Speaker 3: with a runner at second and a runner at third
- 35:09Speaker 3: and one out, you get a strikeout. The one absolute
- 35:12Speaker 3: one thing you can't do infield is probably playing in.
- 35:16Speaker 3: All you do is put the ball in play, make
- 35:18Speaker 3: contact play. Unless the ball is hit right at an infield,
- 35:20Speaker 3: you're gonna get the run. They strike out. It just
- 35:22Speaker 3: kills me to time and again I watch it. Oh
- 35:25Speaker 3: my gosh, I just put the ball in play here.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Of course, you want to lift into the outfield and
- 35:29Speaker 3: get the run in on the sacrifice fly as optimally,
- 35:31Speaker 3: but the pitchers know that sort they're pitching low. But yeah,
- 35:35Speaker 3: so small ball works to the scent of what your
- 35:38Speaker 3: hitters do after you small ball and the Mariners hitters
- 35:41Speaker 3: strike out by LARTs. I'm just broadbushing, but so I
- 35:45Speaker 3: ranted there. I was a little bit of a soapbox. Sorry,
- 35:47Speaker 3: I think they needed it. Analytics suck in some situations.
- 35:54Speaker 3: They do. Now I'm not I'm not that old to
- 35:56Speaker 3: get off my lawn and say, analytics there's no place
- 35:58Speaker 3: in the game. It's in football, it's in Basketball's everywhere.
- 36:01Speaker 3: The Seahawks are heavily into it as well. But at times, yeah,
- 36:05Speaker 3: can we just put the iPad down for a minute
- 36:07Speaker 3: and watch the game and say, oh, let's do this.
- 36:10Speaker 3: I don't care what the iPads and the analytics say
- 36:13Speaker 3: in this situation. I'm a manager who's been in baseball
- 36:15Speaker 3: for forty years. I think this should happen to me.
- 36:18Speaker 3: That's part of the job description while you're getting paid.
- 36:20Speaker 3: But I'm behind a radio mic and not the dugout.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Have you seen the mayor. I have seen the mayor.
- 36:24Speaker 3: He's in cougar red. He's up next. He's gonna talk
- 36:28Speaker 3: about his show from twelve until three. Maybe we'll talk
- 36:30Speaker 3: a little crack and maybe we talk to Seahawks with him.
- 36:32Speaker 3: He's up next on ninety three point three k JRFM.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Welcome back Greg Bell Show. A Christopher Kid rolling on
- 36:49Speaker 3: here for the second day. It's a new full time,
- 36:51Speaker 3: gig if you missed it, we are back like it's
- 36:53Speaker 3: twenty twenty four, and like it's been for what twenty years? Now?
- 36:56Speaker 6: Ian Farness's back almost twenty? Can I get to twenty?
- 37:01Speaker 6: Can I get there?
- 37:03Speaker 3: Where's would starting?
- 37:04Speaker 2: It's September? It's September.
- 37:05Speaker 3: That's twenty.
- 37:08Speaker 6: Now what do we get for twenty years at KJR?
- 37:10Speaker 3: What did you get out at the Seahawks yesterday? And
- 37:12Speaker 3: where do you think they're going?
- 37:14Speaker 6: I mean, I, first of all, you and I talked
- 37:16Speaker 6: about this. I brought this up on our show yesterday.
- 37:17Speaker 6: I loved Schneider coming out and saying, you know, we're
- 37:21Speaker 6: open for business. And as you said, that's exactly what
- 37:23Speaker 6: he was doing, telling the rest of the league publicly,
- 37:24Speaker 6: I'm open for business. I think it's an interesting dynamic
- 37:29Speaker 6: because like that Isn't that's interesting that a GM, a
- 37:34Speaker 6: sitting GM, especially if his stature is so open about it.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Yes, like like so open.
- 37:41Speaker 3: That's a functionould probably him being in the job seventeen
- 37:43Speaker 3: years of winning two Super.
- 37:44Speaker 6: Bowl and like whatever, man, Yeah, we're open for And
- 37:47Speaker 6: I think what he also said, listen, we sometimes I
- 37:50Speaker 6: think operate in sports media in this weird vacuum that
- 37:54Speaker 6: that people are not as smart as others. Yeah, the
- 38:00Speaker 6: other thirty one gms, no exactly. If we all know
- 38:03Speaker 6: the history of John Schneider in what he's done in
- 38:06Speaker 6: the drafts, I kind of.
- 38:07Speaker 2: Believe that deity as well.
- 38:09Speaker 6: And there are some like Dallas famously and others that
- 38:12Speaker 6: do always want to move up, right. They think that
- 38:15Speaker 6: their scouting is so elite that they want to move
- 38:17Speaker 6: up and grab a guy. And Schneider thinks his scouting's
- 38:20Speaker 6: elite in a different way that he wants to move
- 38:21Speaker 6: down and accumulate picks. But yeah, I think that was
- 38:24Speaker 6: a big thing. I thought the other stuff obviously with
- 38:26Speaker 6: Mike McDonald talking about the guys that are there that
- 38:28Speaker 6: don't need to be there, and he tailored that whole
- 38:31Speaker 6: off season program around some veterans not having to be back,
- 38:34Speaker 6: and those guys all showed up. And it goes back
- 38:36Speaker 6: to a year ago. Greg, we talked about this U
- 38:38Speaker 6: and I bunch last year when we went out there
- 38:42Speaker 6: for the first on field OTAs that we were allowed
- 38:45Speaker 6: to see as media members and doing a show out there,
- 38:48Speaker 6: and you're out there covering it and now all be
- 38:50Speaker 6: out there together again, which is great, we're out there.
- 38:53Speaker 6: I think the thing you and I both talked about that, like,
- 38:56Speaker 6: why is Jaren Reid?
- 38:57Speaker 2: Right? Jaren Reid was there yesterday?
- 38:59Speaker 6: He was yesterday. And I've said this before. I have
- 39:01Speaker 6: him on my show three or four times a year,
- 39:03Speaker 6: and people say, why do you like talking to Jeron
- 39:05Speaker 6: Reda is because he is the alpha dog. He is
- 39:09Speaker 6: the he is the connection to the past, the conduit
- 39:12Speaker 6: to today, and he is in a lot of different
- 39:16Speaker 6: ways of reason. They're out where they are. And he
- 39:18Speaker 6: talked about it last year because I asked him, point Blake,
- 39:20Speaker 6: we've played the sound during the super Bowl week I
- 39:21Speaker 6: think it was last May.
- 39:22Speaker 2: I said, dude, why are you here?
- 39:25Speaker 6: And He's like, because this is this is how it works,
- 39:27Speaker 6: this is this is how I was taught, this is
- 39:29Speaker 6: how this is what they told me. And when you
- 39:32Speaker 6: think about when did it not stop working for the
- 39:34Speaker 6: previous regime or the previous group of guys, it's when
- 39:39Speaker 6: Deuce started holding out, Earl's holding out, Cam's holding out,
- 39:43Speaker 6: Marshaan's holding out.
- 39:44Speaker 2: All that stuff started happening.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Right, It's a culture thing.
- 39:48Speaker 2: It's a culture thing. And so I thought that was say,
- 39:50Speaker 2: that's why they won the Super Bowl.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Yeah, they said that, not the x's and o's not. No,
- 39:55Speaker 3: they won the super Bowl because of their culture, and
- 39:57Speaker 3: it's part of why they don't want the hard Knocks
- 39:59Speaker 3: cameras coming in.
- 40:00Speaker 2: I know, I know. There's what do you think of that?
- 40:04Speaker 3: I think the Seahawks don't like it?
- 40:05Speaker 2: What do you say it just as a medium member?
- 40:07Speaker 4: Oh?
- 40:07Speaker 2: I hate it?
- 40:07Speaker 6: Yeah, I think it makes it makes it pain in
- 40:09Speaker 6: the ass. There's I'm split with it though for two reasons.
- 40:12Speaker 3: I love it for the fan, but I hate it
- 40:13Speaker 3: for the journal.
- 40:14Speaker 6: Yeah, I think I'm curious what it's going to look like.
- 40:17Speaker 6: And and when you're like, I haven't seen Chris, have
- 40:20Speaker 6: you seen the Blazer documentary yet?
- 40:22Speaker 2: The Jail Blazer?
- 40:23Speaker 3: I sure did?
- 40:24Speaker 6: Okay, good, just get obviously good or bad? Thumbs up,
- 40:26Speaker 6: thumbs down? It was good, Okay, I'm really I got
- 40:30Speaker 6: lundon today. I don't know if he's seen it yet
- 40:32Speaker 6: because he covered the first bunch of years of that. Yeah,
- 40:35Speaker 6: I cover the last two of the true Jail Blazers.
- 40:39Speaker 6: I was gonna say, I go back to JR. Ryder
- 40:40Speaker 6: and the whole. Yeah, yeah, so I covered the last two.
- 40:42Speaker 6: I was in Portland doing sports radio. But we were
- 40:44Speaker 6: at every game. We covered every game, We did a
- 40:45Speaker 6: pre and post game for the we did it. We
- 40:47Speaker 6: were in the locker room. Unlike Colin Coward, we were
- 40:49Speaker 6: actually in the locker room every day. And so I'm
- 40:52Speaker 6: curious what that looks like. Fast forward. Now, I'm curious
- 40:56Speaker 6: what guys like you and others that cover the Seahawks
- 40:59Speaker 6: every day, what it what it appears, how it's gonna
- 41:01Speaker 6: how it's gonna be portrayed. Is it gonna be because
- 41:03Speaker 6: that'll be a thing when they when those first first
- 41:05Speaker 6: episode comes on, You and and Bob and Mike and
- 41:09Speaker 6: everybody else. Corbyn me to a certain extent, and others like, yeah,
- 41:14Speaker 6: you know, it could be interesting to see how it's portrayed.
- 41:16Speaker 6: Because video, let me tell you this, video heading is
- 41:18Speaker 6: a magical thing.
- 41:20Speaker 3: They will I've talked to people around the league that
- 41:23Speaker 3: have had hard knocks the last a couple of your
- 41:24Speaker 3: Giants and others Steelers. They said that the league has
- 41:28Speaker 3: now given in NFL films, has given more leeway to
- 41:31Speaker 3: the teams and what actually airs, not what actually is shot,
- 41:34Speaker 3: because they go in it everywhere, but actually what it
- 41:38Speaker 3: gets aired, there's a little more leeway to the team
- 41:40Speaker 3: than they're interesting interesting. And but to your point, there
- 41:44Speaker 3: are gonna be cameras in places we can't.
- 41:45Speaker 6: See, Yeah, exact meeting room. Yeah, so I'm curious how
- 41:49Speaker 6: it looks. I'm curious how it looks. I think it'll be.
- 41:51Speaker 6: I think I'm actually excited to see the finished product.
- 41:55Speaker 6: Probably in some ways it makes all of our jobs
- 41:57Speaker 6: harder out there, more challenging. But that's fine. That's one
- 42:00Speaker 6: year and a way we go. But yeah, I'm curious.
- 42:03Speaker 6: I mean, I'll say this, it can. I think hard
- 42:06Speaker 6: knocks can make you or break. You made a break
- 42:09Speaker 6: that made or break broke the Giants for and then
- 42:13Speaker 6: look what happened with I mean, Dan Campbell became a star,
- 42:17Speaker 6: most likable coach in America. I mean he I think
- 42:19Speaker 6: it transformed the Detroit franchise in a lot of ways, right,
- 42:22Speaker 6: I mean, so it can help you too, you know,
- 42:24Speaker 6: a tracting free agents and hey this is great, blah
- 42:26Speaker 6: blah blah. You know there's gonna be some guys will
- 42:28Speaker 6: be stars, for sure.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Devin Witherspoon is going to.
- 42:31Speaker 6: Be if he's if he's Devin Witherspoon on the field,
- 42:34Speaker 6: not at the podium because Devin Witherson at the podium
- 42:37Speaker 6: is boring. Devin Witherspoon when we're watching practice, he's the.
- 42:41Speaker 3: Most Richard Sherman player they've had since Richard Sherman.
- 42:44Speaker 2: And maybe more so, maybe more so. Yeah, so that'll
- 42:46Speaker 2: be fun.
- 42:47Speaker 3: So what do you got today?
- 42:48Speaker 6: We're jamming all the place we got we got going
- 42:50Speaker 6: on to John Harlow watching to state it's new athletic
- 42:52Speaker 6: director is going to join us A twelve thirty ten.
- 42:54Speaker 6: Not Jack Carlow, Not Jack Carlow, John Harlow with two
- 42:56Speaker 6: a's we'll talk to you about the changing landscape Netflix.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Yeah she did.
- 43:01Speaker 3: I'm all in not as.
- 43:03Speaker 6: Young as I look, No, Joe, she and we could
- 43:06Speaker 6: to talk about baseball at one twenty today and then
- 43:08Speaker 6: lund at two o'clock and all kinds of fun stuff.
- 43:10Speaker 6: It's a three hour show.
- 43:11Speaker 2: I'm exhausted. Let's go.
- 43:13Speaker 6: I hear you, I got it, bet your chick you
- 43:17Speaker 6: guy comes in whatever.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Thanks, Yeah, that's fine.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 43:22Speaker 3: Up next is from twelve until three. I'll have you
- 43:26Speaker 3: know up next to the mayor made three hours
