- 0:17Speaker 1: Return to Glory podcast owners our books to come to
- 0:20Speaker 1: Free Bag. Austin should be joining. I think in a
- 0:25Speaker 1: few seconds maybe overslept Oil Boil Boy.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Any farther here?
- 0:33Speaker 3: What I get?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Can I get a oh the Cody.
- 0:36Speaker 3: You're right?
- 0:37Speaker 1: No, there's not. There's nothing that you're right yet about that.
- 0:41Speaker 4: The basketball team is gonna be pretty damn They looked
- 0:44Speaker 4: pretty good. Yeah, I already meant they are good.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Maybe huh, Yeah, they gotta win a tournament game.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Still, first, shaking your boots? How you get your running
- 0:57Speaker 2: shoes ready yet?
- 1:01Speaker 1: Yeah, obviously you gotta want a tournament game first. I
- 1:06Speaker 1: think that's the big thing. But man, I I think
- 1:12Speaker 1: there's a lot of praise right now to be said
- 1:15Speaker 1: about where we're at as a basketball program, both men
- 1:19Speaker 1: and women, but specifically on the men's side. Fourteen game
- 1:24Speaker 1: win streak in a row, this last these last two
- 1:28Speaker 1: games we've lasted on the podcast, just a domination blowout
- 1:34Speaker 1: of both Creighton and Wisconsin. And I know for sure
- 1:39Speaker 1: that we can't can't can't say it's happened in our
- 1:42Speaker 1: lifetime against two opponents of that caliber. And after the
- 1:47Speaker 1: Creighton game, you can go through all the stats of
- 1:51Speaker 1: last time we won back to back by that margin.
- 1:54Speaker 1: All of that, it's it's a different world that we
- 1:59Speaker 1: live in right now with Nebraska basketball. Let's just put
- 2:02Speaker 1: it that way. And I think the monkey on our
- 2:05Speaker 1: back is going to be winning that tournament game for sure.
- 2:09Speaker 1: And there's still a lot of work to do to
- 2:12Speaker 1: get to the tournament, but alon win it. But if
- 2:18Speaker 1: you were a betting man right now, I think, Dak
- 2:22Speaker 1: you're on the right side of it.
- 2:25Speaker 2: How about that? How about that?
- 2:27Speaker 4: There's this one more thing I still want to see
- 2:30Speaker 4: with this team, and that's go on the road, which
- 2:32Speaker 4: will be the next game because I'm not counting any
- 2:36Speaker 4: The Case State game is probably the closest game I'd
- 2:38Speaker 4: count to road game, but they have not really played
- 2:40Speaker 4: a true road game yet, so that will be interesting
- 2:42Speaker 4: to see on Saturday. But that's the only thing I
- 2:44Speaker 4: still need to see this team to say for sure
- 2:46Speaker 4: that they're like very good. I think they're for sure
- 2:49Speaker 4: upper top five of the Big ten teams.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think that the road test that we're
- 3:01Speaker 1: going to see on Saturday against Illinois, who is considered
- 3:06Speaker 1: a top fifteen team right now and one of the
- 3:10Speaker 1: top teams in the big ten like, I think that
- 3:12Speaker 1: is the next thing. And the good news is I
- 3:15Speaker 1: do think this team has proven or shown to be
- 3:20Speaker 1: able to withstand adversity and play together and cohesive. Like
- 3:25Speaker 1: that's not a worry that you have when you watch
- 3:30Speaker 1: us play. I think that's a strength. I don't think
- 3:33Speaker 1: a strength of our team is necessarily our athleticism, but
- 3:38Speaker 1: we make up for it, and we actually look very
- 3:41Speaker 1: very cohesive as a group and long longer than we
- 3:44Speaker 1: are because of how well we play together.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say that.
- 3:53Speaker 4: What you said about the athleticisms no athleticism on the
- 3:56Speaker 4: team really showed when they try to throw a lobbed
- 3:57Speaker 4: to rank you know, he can't jump that high ashi
- 4:02Speaker 4: as they threw it. But but so we were talking
- 4:08Speaker 4: about how they had a lot of depth and then
- 4:10Speaker 4: at the end of the ear and then it kind
- 4:11Speaker 4: of tapered out there at the end. Last night it
- 4:13Speaker 4: showed actually they might have a little bit depth to him.
- 4:15Speaker 4: Garcia came in played well. I mean, Kendall Blue. I
- 4:24Speaker 4: still don't know about that guy. I think he could
- 4:27Speaker 4: maybe have a little game to him. I don't know,
- 4:29Speaker 4: but but they're gonna need someone else to step up.
- 4:32Speaker 4: With his sison being out still and the and the
- 4:35Speaker 4: other big thing last night is the whole I was talking.
- 4:38Speaker 4: This guy next to me was, we're just waiting for
- 4:40Speaker 4: that role to happen. That what happens to Hoiberg Like, oh.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Well, here we go.
- 4:44Speaker 4: There they're gonna go like six minutes out scoring. That
- 4:46Speaker 4: didn't happen last night. They just kept the foot on
- 4:48Speaker 4: the peddle the whole night.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Yeah, complete domination Austin. Austin's probably little hungover from celebrating,
- 4:55Speaker 1: so George exactly minutes late, but he's here now.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Definitely just didn't wake up and then I was like
- 5:02Speaker 3: I got a lot of the time and then fell
- 5:05Speaker 3: back sleep. That's definitely not what.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Happened off fresh off the dream of Nebraska basketball winning.
- 5:16Speaker 3: It was a dream to two dominant wins. Man, we
- 5:25Speaker 3: look freaking good, though, I know, I know, like schedule wise,
- 5:29Speaker 3: it hasn't been an incredibly challenging schedule, and sure Creton
- 5:33Speaker 3: is shaping up to maybe not be as good of
- 5:36Speaker 3: a win, and k State also might not be as
- 5:38Speaker 3: good of a win. But I mean, when you win
- 5:41Speaker 3: by thirty over with you know, Wisconsin, who there are
- 5:45Speaker 3: two losses were to b y U and uh, Northwestern,
- 5:51Speaker 3: I think the lost decently close skin Northwestern. Man, it
- 5:58Speaker 3: just feels good kind of like we you guys are saying, Yeah,
- 6:01Speaker 3: it's mostly a cohesive team, so that's kind of how
- 6:04Speaker 3: it's how the ball movement, the cutting on on the
- 6:08Speaker 3: offensive side. And I mean we didn't shoot the ball
- 6:11Speaker 3: incredibly well from three last night. I mean it was like,
- 6:15Speaker 3: I don't know what we ended up at. I was
- 6:16Speaker 3: sitting around thirty six thirty, which is it's good as
- 6:20Speaker 3: a team team stat that's pretty solid, but I mean,
- 6:25Speaker 3: you know, rank went one for six, So it was
- 6:29Speaker 3: just I don't know if we'll see what happens when
- 6:34Speaker 3: we actually face size. I don't really it's gonna be
- 6:36Speaker 3: when when you have those big guys in the paint,
- 6:38Speaker 3: which in the past, Fred's done pretty well at coaching
- 6:40Speaker 3: around or at least Bred's staff has done coaching around
- 6:43Speaker 3: how to handle you know, the zachy Eaties of the world.
- 6:46Speaker 3: But who are you starting to train Hunter? You to
- 6:52Speaker 3: feel like you need to run a half?
- 6:54Speaker 1: That's gonna that's gonna be the topic of conversation with
- 6:57Speaker 1: our with our bad I I I would be glad
- 7:01Speaker 1: to run another half marathon. If we have the game,
- 7:04Speaker 1: I will be like, that's that's the direction this team
- 7:08Speaker 1: is heading, and I think that we have the pieces
- 7:12Speaker 1: to do that, especially after watching last night that yeah
- 7:17Speaker 1: you mentioned are the defense and playing against better quality opponents.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I thought after watching the first bit of that game,
- 7:29Speaker 1: Wisconsin's athletes, I got a couple of really good players,
- 7:33Speaker 1: and John Blackwell's big coming off Big Ten Player of
- 7:38Speaker 1: the Week and averaging two game.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Very very State, whatever case State's guy was, it's more
- 7:46Speaker 3: of size. I'm worried about when we hit into when
- 7:48Speaker 3: we get the seventh footter, whatever produced guy is. Those
- 7:53Speaker 3: those are the ones that I'm more worried about.
- 7:55Speaker 1: And the way that game started, I just I thought, Okay,
- 8:00Speaker 1: this is gonna be a team that exposes us. And
- 8:02Speaker 1: you know what Oklahoma did to a little bit where
- 8:05Speaker 1: they just had athletes that could score. I thought the
- 8:08Speaker 1: game started, I'm like, here we go and just shout
- 8:14Speaker 1: out to Nate Lenzer and our defense. I know it's
- 8:18Speaker 1: Fred's team, but Nate does a lot of the defensive
- 8:21Speaker 1: adjustments and you can tell he's a defensive coach, and
- 8:25Speaker 1: it's very impressive how we adjusted early on and once
- 8:30Speaker 1: they said Wisconsin, I think shot it was like thirteen
- 8:34Speaker 1: or fourteen at three point attempts in a row. I
- 8:37Speaker 1: felt pretty good about the game, and that is when
- 8:40Speaker 1: we opened our lead up to where it got in
- 8:44Speaker 1: the first half. So I think our defense is one
- 8:47Speaker 1: of those things that we're gonna have to hang our
- 8:50Speaker 1: hats on because you know, often sometimes can come and
- 8:53Speaker 1: go with how you shoot the ball.
- 8:55Speaker 3: But if you can.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Defend and rotate and particularly make a us in a
- 9:00Speaker 1: game like that, you're gonna give yourself a chance to
- 9:04Speaker 1: win about any game in the big ten. And I
- 9:05Speaker 1: think that's what's very important with this team.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Right We'll see if we have the motor to do
- 9:09Speaker 3: it all year. That's I mean, you know, ten games.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Then it's a little different, especially those first couple of
- 9:15Speaker 3: games when you think you're playing those teams that's like,
- 9:18Speaker 3: well we're up by twenty something, which I mean if
- 9:21Speaker 3: we were up by thirty last night, so I mean,
- 9:25Speaker 3: well that that was going nuts for Bark. Good for
- 9:27Speaker 3: Bark for proving us wrong.
- 9:30Speaker 4: That's the that's the key to this team that's different
- 9:33Speaker 4: from the football team is in the coaching staff, especially
- 9:35Speaker 4: is they can make adjustments like crazy like that. That
- 9:39Speaker 4: big man for Wisconsin was just getting he was cutting
- 9:41Speaker 4: and getting open shots like five or six in a
- 9:44Speaker 4: row there for a while, and then he didn't. That
- 9:46Speaker 4: never happened again. They make adjustments. This This coach staff
- 9:49Speaker 4: is damn good for a freend, Like, I don't know
- 9:53Speaker 4: that's that's a big thing there is, so I don't.
- 9:57Speaker 4: I don't think a big man is really the worry.
- 10:00Speaker 4: I'm not too worried about it.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Don't. Big men don't worry about athletes.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Here's what I appreciate. I guess with this team and
- 10:12Speaker 1: our I call it our identity, which tie it back
- 10:15Speaker 1: to our football team and the lack thereof maybe of
- 10:19Speaker 1: what we're trying to do and make adjustments. Fred's team
- 10:22Speaker 1: is obviously year seven for Fred, like yeah, he he,
- 10:26Speaker 1: It's taken him time to realize and kind of understand
- 10:31Speaker 1: what it's going to take for a Nebraska team to
- 10:34Speaker 1: compete in the Big Ten. And obviously that goal of
- 10:38Speaker 1: getting and winning a tournament game. We play with like
- 10:45Speaker 1: blue collar Nebraska toughness from one to five positions like that,
- 10:53Speaker 1: that to me is the definition of Nebraska. You want
- 10:56Speaker 1: to call it back in the old days, like offensive line,
- 11:00Speaker 1: the pipeline that kind of toughness for football. Our basketball
- 11:04Speaker 1: team plays with that kind of like grit toughness, don't.
- 11:08Speaker 1: We don't look like a lot of good college basketball teams,
- 11:13Speaker 1: but the way that we play on both ends of
- 11:16Speaker 1: the court really like defines the state of Nebraska, I
- 11:19Speaker 1: would say in general from a from a identity standpoint,
- 11:24Speaker 1: like I got that feeling last night watching us and
- 11:26Speaker 1: the way even all the way down to like the
- 11:29Speaker 1: way that we were dressed compared to their coaching staff
- 11:31Speaker 1: with like blazers on and everything. I'm like, we just
- 11:35Speaker 1: punched them in the mouth and punched them again and
- 11:38Speaker 1: kicked them while they were down and kept doing it.
- 11:41Speaker 1: But not because we were doing anything flashy. It was
- 11:43Speaker 1: by running quick little actions and getting inside and headfakeing
- 11:49Speaker 1: and like it's not like we're going and throwing out
- 11:52Speaker 1: down big nunks right using our athleticism because we don't
- 11:55Speaker 1: have a lot of it. We're just very very well
- 11:58Speaker 1: coached and sound and tough. And that's what Fred identified it,
- 12:02Speaker 1: how to win in the Big Ten. So that's another
- 12:05Speaker 1: big shout out there to the coaching staff.
- 12:07Speaker 2: And one you know, you know what kind of reminds
- 12:10Speaker 2: me of throwbacks football team. Here, the football team.
- 12:14Speaker 4: Every team knows, all right, we're gonna beat Trevor. We're's
- 12:17Speaker 4: gonna run the ball on him here, and eventually they're
- 12:19Speaker 4: gonna crack. Well this team like defensively wise, like just
- 12:23Speaker 4: keep playing deep, solid defense here, and the other team
- 12:26Speaker 4: you cracked like Wisconsin last night. You could just tell
- 12:28Speaker 4: we're just pissed off and just eventually you're like, fuck it,
- 12:31Speaker 4: we're just gonna sarthooting threes like they they were pissed
- 12:35Speaker 4: off and eventually just weren't running the offense they wanted
- 12:37Speaker 4: and and the coaching staff too, was just getting pissed it.
- 12:40Speaker 2: It was. It's fun to watch.
- 12:45Speaker 3: It's always nice to win. Watch winning Hunter, doesn't it
- 12:49Speaker 3: feel good?
- 12:51Speaker 1: We don't watch it a whole lot in the football team.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I love post game, like watching Fred. Been watching Fred's
- 13:00Speaker 1: press conference. He just he's a man. A few words
- 13:04Speaker 1: I've always said, I I like coaches. I appreciate coaches
- 13:08Speaker 1: that are just just shut your mouth and win, stay
- 13:12Speaker 1: under the radar. Someone asked him about being ranked. We'n't
- 13:17Speaker 1: even mentioned that that the Rascal basketball is ranked. This
- 13:20Speaker 1: is the first game after beating Creighton craft in the
- 13:24Speaker 1: top twenty five, the pressure of being ranked and all that.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Not Na, that's that's not a factor. He didn't even
- 13:31Speaker 1: got the football team. I just it's one of those
- 13:35Speaker 1: things that Fred's handling a lot of the extracurricular stuff
- 13:43Speaker 1: very very well.
- 13:46Speaker 3: It helps the like, I mean, the hype machine, the
- 13:51Speaker 3: Nebraska basketball hype machine is. It's such a smaller beast
- 13:55Speaker 3: in Nebraska than the football hype machine. Nationally, there's not
- 14:01Speaker 3: you know, like when Nebraska got ranked preseason, people like
- 14:05Speaker 3: Nebraska to start you know, sleeping, you know, like a
- 14:08Speaker 3: dark horse choice for the playoffs and no, and because
- 14:12Speaker 3: didn't they pick us to finish second or last in
- 14:14Speaker 3: the conference? Third and last? So I mean there's not
- 14:18Speaker 3: a lot of national pundits being like hey man looking
- 14:20Speaker 3: out for Nebraska and college basketball is just it's a
- 14:23Speaker 3: little bit of a different beast than football. But it's
- 14:28Speaker 3: good men, and not not yet.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I mean, if you keep this up, things are definitely
- 14:33Speaker 1: gonna be coming down down the pipeline here. And like
- 14:37Speaker 1: even after last night's win, I just Fred is just
- 14:40Speaker 1: so it's even keeled, right, It just doesn't react A
- 14:46Speaker 1: whole lot doesn't say a whole lot. Actually most really
- 14:50Speaker 1: the most I've seen Fred get get pissed and react
- 14:55Speaker 1: to a call. I mean, the way the way you
- 14:57Speaker 1: reacted probably could have warranted the technical in the first
- 15:00Speaker 1: half after And it was funny because it was Sam
- 15:05Speaker 1: too that the call happened on right there on the
- 15:08Speaker 1: sidelines and he reacted big time. You know, you don't
- 15:10Speaker 1: see Fred react like that a lot. He did obviously
- 15:14Speaker 1: his passion, which we never were questioning, but.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Idiot was he was he rapping in Sue Falls two?
- 15:24Speaker 3: Yeah? I think he was.
- 15:25Speaker 4: He rests a lot of games. Yeah, God, he sucks that.
- 15:27Speaker 4: That guy just hates Nebraska. He is awful, Like he
- 15:30Speaker 4: should never rep a Nebraska basketball game again. That guy
- 15:32Speaker 4: is terrible. I don't know what his name is. And
- 15:33Speaker 4: I hope you're listening. If you're listening to, all I
- 15:40Speaker 4: know is you're you suck Like you were one of
- 15:42Speaker 4: the worst refs I've ever saw in my life. He's horrible,
- 15:44Speaker 4: which he did end up mattering in the end and
- 15:46Speaker 4: the second half was better. But like like Hunter text
- 15:49Speaker 4: me 're in the game. It wasn't even just just
- 15:51Speaker 4: on his constant side. It was on the brask too.
- 15:53Speaker 4: They were so inconsistent, like it was horrible. So, yeah,
- 15:57Speaker 4: that's that's not ref talk right there.
- 15:59Speaker 3: But I mean they swallowed their whistles. A lot of
- 16:03Speaker 3: Nebraska plays physical defense, so I feel like that's.
- 16:08Speaker 1: It was very I would say there are some weird
- 16:10Speaker 1: calls getting made early on. It was like, I actually,
- 16:15Speaker 1: I actually think that guy itself, I don't. We've had
- 16:18Speaker 1: him a lot over the past several years, and I didn't.
- 16:22Speaker 1: I don't mind him too much. We had Jeffrey Anderson
- 16:27Speaker 1: high knees guy. Uh, I've always thought he makes some
- 16:30Speaker 1: goofy calls, but he's a he's a very good manager
- 16:33Speaker 1: of the game. I mean, you know, he'll he'll do
- 16:37Speaker 1: I think he's done Final four games the past couple
- 16:39Speaker 1: of years. He'll he'll do big time games. The other guy,
- 16:42Speaker 1: the third guy, I had really never seen before it.
- 16:45Speaker 1: He was the one that was making some I I
- 16:49Speaker 1: just thought, weird call, like in both ways and early on,
- 16:52Speaker 1: and you know what, what I liked about it though,
- 16:55Speaker 1: when you're on when you're at home. It got the
- 16:58Speaker 1: crowd involved. Yeah, and you're right then, Austin. They swallowed
- 17:03Speaker 1: their whistle a lot as the game went on and
- 17:07Speaker 1: that's when we kind of extended our lead and it
- 17:09Speaker 1: worked our advantage, right, you get the crowd going, you
- 17:12Speaker 1: get the coach is fired up. Then then the rest,
- 17:15Speaker 1: I mean what they're not supposed to, but they think,
- 17:17Speaker 1: oh my god, like we have given a lot of
- 17:20Speaker 1: the fifty to fifty type of calls to Wisconsin we
- 17:23Speaker 1: got we got either no call or give some back Nebraska.
- 17:27Speaker 1: And I mean, I'm not gonna say that's what happened,
- 17:29Speaker 1: but it kind of felt like the way then the
- 17:32Speaker 1: physicality standpoint, we were definitely the most physical team early on,
- 17:37Speaker 1: and they just are like, Okay, we can't call everything right,
- 17:40Speaker 1: and we just kept going and doing it and doing it.
- 17:43Speaker 3: And that's like the last ten minutes it felt like
- 17:46Speaker 3: they were calling. I mean, I felt we were just
- 17:48Speaker 3: absolutely mobbing them in the paint and they weren't calling anything.
- 17:51Speaker 3: And I was amazed. I was like, wow, I cannot believe.
- 17:55Speaker 3: Like there was a couple of plays where they got
- 17:58Speaker 3: the ball like right in the middle of the lane
- 18:00Speaker 3: and we had like three guys just absolutely rip it
- 18:02Speaker 3: from him and and maybe there was no foul, maybe
- 18:05Speaker 3: it was all bald. I was like, there's most games
- 18:08Speaker 3: you're gonna get a whistle there.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think we uh should we chan't and
- 18:15Speaker 4: refuse suck at that ball guy anymore. Like he's had
- 18:18Speaker 4: two games that I'm like that might he might be like,
- 18:20Speaker 4: all right, f Nebraska if we keep doing that.
- 18:22Speaker 3: But hey, that's true. You should see the text I
- 18:32Speaker 3: got last night from Dak Yep.
- 18:34Speaker 4: I did say that give me, give me, give. I
- 18:38Speaker 4: want to give two shoutouts. Two players here that have
- 18:41Speaker 4: improved I think a lot. Well, one will surprise me,
- 18:44Speaker 4: JaMarcus and Sam Hoiberg. JaMarcus I thought, coming from Roninland
- 18:48Speaker 4: was like he's not gonna do much this year. And
- 18:50Speaker 4: I'm not saying like he's offensively great, but the way
- 18:53Speaker 4: he commands the team and runs the offense and slows
- 18:55Speaker 4: the team down when they start getting a little wild
- 18:59Speaker 4: and have those clowsports there, I think he is a
- 19:02Speaker 4: major key for how he show this year. And Sam
- 19:05Speaker 4: I think has improved a ship ton from last year.
- 19:07Speaker 4: Like yeah, those those two players I think are the
- 19:11Speaker 4: keys to this team.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Almost.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Here's what's great is you said I have two players
- 19:14Speaker 1: that I want to shout out. I didn't know who
- 19:17Speaker 1: you were going to say, because you could you could
- 19:20Speaker 1: throw everybody in that category to to a certain extent.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Pretty much like any of the six core players that
- 19:25Speaker 3: are playing. Yeah, the outside of bear.
- 19:27Speaker 1: K Yeah, we can talk about him too, But yeah,
- 19:32Speaker 1: I think you're you're you're right on those two. And
- 19:37Speaker 1: I think JaMarcus is becoming the true point guard that
- 19:42Speaker 1: Fred and and all of us have kind of wanted
- 19:43Speaker 1: to see of just a leader and keeping his control,
- 19:48Speaker 1: but also has the ability to to to score and
- 19:52Speaker 1: shoot it well.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Which we didn't think was gonna happen coming in the year.
- 19:56Speaker 1: We didn't. Yeah that was and yeah, take him. That
- 20:00Speaker 1: obviously is better than what we were expecting. Sam is
- 20:04Speaker 1: playing best basketball we've ever seen him play and getting
- 20:09Speaker 1: stuff done from three, the amount of and ones that
- 20:16Speaker 1: he's had this year.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Which I feel like he was doing that, like he's
- 20:21Speaker 3: doing it.
- 20:21Speaker 1: All like he was he was. He was doing it
- 20:24Speaker 1: like once every once or twice every like two.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Yeah, he was doing it last year. But this year
- 20:28Speaker 3: it's like, oh, hey, you're gonna be our starter because
- 20:32Speaker 3: last year he was coming off the bench, well not all.
- 20:35Speaker 3: I think towards the end of the area's kind of
- 20:36Speaker 3: starting to start a couple of times but but now
- 20:39Speaker 3: it's like, yeah, this is what we do. Like it
- 20:42Speaker 3: just so happens that the team now does exactly what
- 20:44Speaker 3: you do. Like, this is how our offense operates, is
- 20:47Speaker 3: we're gonna slash and shoot threes, which is how you
- 20:50Speaker 3: have to score as an undersized guard.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Yeah, like you know what. I still not super comfortable
- 21:00Speaker 1: him shooting threes. He made two last night though, and
- 21:02Speaker 1: Fred said they're coming, like the second that.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Second one, I mean made it, but it rattle as
- 21:08Speaker 3: much as it could.
- 21:10Speaker 1: It makes you kind of go when he shoots it.
- 21:13Speaker 1: You're like the.
- 21:17Speaker 4: Crowd when he gets to be on the front lines.
- 21:18Speaker 4: Oh you can hear the saying like, no, don't shoot that.
- 21:21Speaker 3: But when he got checked in, they were shooting back.
- 21:24Speaker 1: I don't know what crowd you were at. But after
- 21:27Speaker 1: he made his first went nuts. And then the second
- 21:30Speaker 1: one he caught it wide open. Everyone yelled. I could
- 21:33Speaker 1: hear the TV yell, shoot it, shoot it. I don't
- 21:36Speaker 1: know what crowd you were like observing, but after he
- 21:40Speaker 1: made his first one, they all wanted him to go.
- 21:41Speaker 1: And then when he when he got the blood on
- 21:43Speaker 1: the stitches in the lip and came back in and
- 21:46Speaker 1: buried it, like so I was, I'm on, I don't.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I still not comfortable with him shooting it, but again,
- 21:54Speaker 1: if you make him, you make him.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Yeah, the crowd he went nuts for him because I
- 21:59Speaker 3: mean when he checked that with the bloody lip, I
- 22:00Speaker 3: mean he kind of riled him up a little bit.
- 22:02Speaker 3: And then when he came back.
- 22:03Speaker 1: To me, that's where he's like, he's he's made himself
- 22:08Speaker 1: the I'll call him the fan favorite, but just the
- 22:14Speaker 1: crazy psychotic, like I don't know, like that's what he is,
- 22:20Speaker 1: and especially from a rebounding standpoint, like that's where his
- 22:23Speaker 1: role is and he's gotten really damn good at it.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Well, yeah, he had what seventeen points fourteen.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Wise just the rebounding side and the post offender side
- 22:37Speaker 1: and all of that like that. That's well, we were
- 22:40Speaker 1: a little concerned his size and everything. Like he's taking
- 22:42Speaker 1: a huge step forward in that.
- 22:45Speaker 2: We haven't even mentioned Kic part two yet.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I was just going to say that you want to
- 22:50Speaker 1: talk about a key piece. I just more watch him.
- 22:54Speaker 1: He's like he's Jokic, He's Yokichen college basketball.
- 22:58Speaker 4: The passes rank makes I mean last night was even
- 23:02Speaker 4: better than normally is.
- 23:03Speaker 2: But he's a hell of a pass or too. Like
- 23:05Speaker 2: he he's our.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Best i'd say best passer on the team, best by.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Far best player.
- 23:09Speaker 3: But he's the best player.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, he's when people flashed those passes he throws him.
- 23:15Speaker 2: It's guy. It makes you wish that he was on
- 23:18Speaker 2: the team last year.
- 23:19Speaker 3: But well, I think that's why Sampoisburg is so much
- 23:22Speaker 3: better this year. Is now when you have because when
- 23:25Speaker 3: he was in before, he was playing the point guard
- 23:27Speaker 3: and he still is, but now he's playing more of
- 23:28Speaker 3: an off an off ball guard because when he's in
- 23:31Speaker 3: with Rank, Rink's actually able to move the ball around,
- 23:36Speaker 3: which is why he can get those those cuts down.
- 23:40Speaker 1: And this is where we're comfortable in our offense with
- 23:44Speaker 1: Rank playing that point forward, the Joki troll. Everything just
- 23:49Speaker 1: runs very smooth around him. Last year, I mean that
- 23:52Speaker 1: was bark a lot and and when you but then
- 23:55Speaker 1: when you play it with like the injury Morgans and
- 23:58Speaker 1: Broxton me is of the world that don't have a
- 24:02Speaker 1: threat to it at all. You had to just you're
- 24:06Speaker 1: offen to a lot. This is just where Fred's comfortable
- 24:09Speaker 1: running our our actions and our motion offense around Rank
- 24:13Speaker 1: and and and I don't know what his future holds
- 24:16Speaker 1: from a basketball career standpoint, but he is from a
- 24:20Speaker 1: college standpoint, he is very, very very good.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Easily he plays in the Big Ten.
- 24:31Speaker 3: We hope he's twenty four, He's had several He's had
- 24:33Speaker 3: a lot of years to figure it out.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I'm I'm hoping that we just he just continues to
- 24:39Speaker 1: stay under the radar. Yeah, he's one of those guys
- 24:41Speaker 1: you look at him and you go like, I could
- 24:44Speaker 1: dominate a men's mc A league game, but you just
- 24:48Speaker 1: that's about it, and you don't really think much of it.
- 24:51Speaker 1: But he's very, very very methodical and everything that he does.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Only other guy I guess it's probably multiple, still a
- 24:58Speaker 1: couple of other guys, but doak you mentioned Sared Garcia
- 25:01Speaker 1: and and you talk about our depth. Right, a season
- 25:08Speaker 1: gets hurt out for the year, you got knock on wood.
- 25:11Speaker 1: You hope that we stay healthy with this team the
- 25:13Speaker 1: rest of the year. I'm just gonna say it now,
- 25:16Speaker 1: probably is some chance of happening that nobody else gets
- 25:20Speaker 1: banged up or injured, so people like Jared Garcia are
- 25:23Speaker 1: going to come in and place some minutes. Last night
- 25:25Speaker 1: was such a good game for him for so many reasons. Yeah,
- 25:29Speaker 1: I mean Rank didn't play the last thirteen fourteen minutes
- 25:31Speaker 1: and Garcia played the whole time. It was like, it's
- 25:34Speaker 1: so good for him to get exposure, and he did.
- 25:36Speaker 1: He got a good team. Yeah, like God, he's not
- 25:41Speaker 1: going to be a a twelve and ten guy, but
- 25:46Speaker 1: he's apparently. I still think he had a decent looking shot,
- 25:50Speaker 1: and I think that he's going to knock down a
- 25:53Speaker 1: couple of threes in some games that you're not expecting
- 25:56Speaker 1: because he's still shooting them and the coaches have confidence
- 26:00Speaker 1: in him doing that and he's they still look decent sometimes.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I'm not gonna say always, but last night what was
- 26:06Speaker 1: most impressive was from a rebounding standpoint and actually then
- 26:10Speaker 1: finishing or drawing fouls. He played that role that Ranke
- 26:18Speaker 1: has done. He played that very very well.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Like that.
- 26:20Speaker 1: That was very encouraging from a depth standpoint for me
- 26:23Speaker 1: last night.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Yeah, that's one. I mean, when you're up thirty on
- 26:27Speaker 3: a you know, big ten conference foe, that's a great
- 26:31Speaker 3: game to you know, let your bene guys. I'm surprised
- 26:35Speaker 3: we didn't let more bench guys.
- 26:38Speaker 4: All they let that seven three seven four guy.
- 26:41Speaker 2: How whatever? His name is playing. He's that guy's not
- 26:44Speaker 2: ready yet.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Oh, I mean that was for two minutes.
- 26:46Speaker 3: Yeah, then put it. They put them in like the
- 26:49Speaker 3: last two minutes. But I was surprised there weren't more.
- 26:51Speaker 3: I think I'm surprised Kendall Blue didn't get more run
- 26:53Speaker 3: than I know. He got a couple of minutes. But
- 26:56Speaker 3: when you're kind of looking for more rotation players, I
- 26:58Speaker 3: was surprised up thirty see it, But you're right he did.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Look he looks like he'll be a sufficient seventh option,
- 27:06Speaker 3: which is what we need because I mean, you really
- 27:08Speaker 3: only play seventy.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Tournament and yeah, it looks like it looks like that.
- 27:15Speaker 4: At least that's another guy you can trust coming in.
- 27:18Speaker 4: But the main thing coming out of the game is
- 27:21Speaker 4: Hunter's is gonna need Sam Hoyberg's energy to run this
- 27:23Speaker 4: half marathon because that guy never quits.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that he's the He is the closest
- 27:31Speaker 1: thing to Benny Parker, the energizer Benny that.
- 27:34Speaker 3: We've had him and a lot of podcasts talking about
- 27:40Speaker 3: Benny Parker right now for Nebraska basketball. Uh.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I was trying to make sure we gave everybody a
- 27:48Speaker 1: shout out. We haven't really dove into the basketball team
- 27:51Speaker 1: yet because there's been a lot of football talking football news.
- 27:54Speaker 1: The other person that we haven't talked about is Bryce Sandford.
- 27:57Speaker 2: And.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Man's case for the best player on the team. Yeah,
- 28:01Speaker 1: and his game is so to me again, it's blue collar.
- 28:05Speaker 1: It's not flashy, it's fundamental. He's gonna be the guy
- 28:11Speaker 1: that if he's got a Well there's another guy we
- 28:15Speaker 1: haven't mentioned too, in Brandon Frigger. Those two guys in general,
- 28:19Speaker 1: if there's a glimpse that's going up and it probably
- 28:22Speaker 1: is going in. And when you have those guys in
- 28:24Speaker 1: the team, it makes it very, very difficult to guard.
- 28:30Speaker 1: And I'm not going to call him case a level.
- 28:33Speaker 1: But at the same time, they can shoot the crap
- 28:36Speaker 1: out of the ball.
- 28:37Speaker 3: There's actually one two options for shooters.
- 28:40Speaker 1: They are and and and when you have you can
- 28:43Speaker 1: watch Wisconsin having to defend us. You have to chase
- 28:46Speaker 1: guys like that. You have to be on their tail.
- 28:48Speaker 1: It opens up so much for the rest of the offense.
- 28:52Speaker 1: And and you can run stuff very creatively when you.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Got That's why Sam can play as a start. He's
- 29:01Speaker 3: not a defensive liability because you have because when it
- 29:05Speaker 3: was Kin when his case, you know, it's like, well,
- 29:07Speaker 3: we can't have two six foot guys out there because
- 29:09Speaker 3: we will get cooked. But now that we have Brandon
- 29:12Speaker 3: Frager and Price, it opens up the court, which makes
- 29:18Speaker 3: it easier for see him to get to the rim,
- 29:20Speaker 3: but he can also shoot. And then on the defensive side,
- 29:22Speaker 3: they're both decent. I mean there's size, there's size, and
- 29:26Speaker 3: they have the effort on the defensive end.
- 29:29Speaker 4: I mean this, Yeah, this team definitely lacks that athletics
- 29:32Speaker 4: and athleticism like you were saying, but Fragert, that guy,
- 29:36Speaker 4: I don't know if they should on TV, but he
- 29:38Speaker 4: went up for a windmill Donkey missed it.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Yeah, but but I was like, holy shit, this guy
- 29:44Speaker 2: can jump.
- 29:45Speaker 1: What a season was last year? Right for our team?
- 29:48Speaker 1: Any seasons throw them in that category. Two obviously he's
- 29:51Speaker 1: out for the year. Well, these two guys are have
- 29:53Speaker 1: a step of up above season on is they they're
- 29:56Speaker 1: athletic and can defend that. I'm not going to say
- 29:58Speaker 1: they're elite defenders, but they they're they're good defenders because
- 30:03Speaker 1: because of their length, and a season was a liability
- 30:07Speaker 1: on that end because of his his size and everything.
- 30:09Speaker 1: So you know, you get those two and then Cale
- 30:12Speaker 1: Jacobson's last player that we haven't talked about yet, that
- 30:15Speaker 1: talk about a role player guy. Last night I think
- 30:18Speaker 1: maybe was one of his worst games of He's gonna
- 30:21Speaker 1: be up and down so far, but he's he's that
- 30:24Speaker 1: role guy that has to come in and he's a
- 30:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna call him a Sam prodigy Bertege, but they're very,
- 30:32Speaker 1: very similar type of players, not just because they are
- 30:36Speaker 1: built and look the same, but just because of how
- 30:38Speaker 1: they play on the court. He he defensively, Cale, I
- 30:41Speaker 1: mean the underrated thing. Gosh. He he can guard one
- 30:46Speaker 1: through five even for size, I mean, best, best and
- 30:51Speaker 1: better than Sam in that aspect. And he can get
- 30:53Speaker 1: he can get hands on balls constantly and that you
- 30:55Speaker 1: know what, But that's all. That's what you need for
- 30:57Speaker 1: a guy like that. And he's not a he's not
- 31:00Speaker 1: He can shoot it a little bit like he's not
- 31:02Speaker 1: a non threat on offense too. He had a big
- 31:06Speaker 1: and one against Oklahoma. He had a big drive and
- 31:08Speaker 1: finished against Creighton when again everybody's locked onto our shooters.
- 31:12Speaker 1: So like, that's that's another guy here. The pieces of
- 31:15Speaker 1: the puzzle pieces are fitting together well right now. And
- 31:19Speaker 1: you know, maybe things will change, but it just looks
- 31:23Speaker 1: like we have the right build of a team for yes,
- 31:28Speaker 1: for me to potentially run my half marathon.
- 31:31Speaker 3: H and the Big Ten as a whole, I would say,
- 31:35Speaker 3: looks a little bit down this year. You know, you
- 31:38Speaker 3: have Michigan State Illinois Michigan not Michigan Nope, yeah, Michigan,
- 31:47Speaker 3: Michigan State Illinois. As I will ranked or is that
- 31:53Speaker 3: just women?
- 31:53Speaker 1: Yeah? I was ranked U C l A is up there.
- 31:57Speaker 1: The season is just starting now.
- 32:00Speaker 2: We found Wisconsin.
- 32:02Speaker 3: But yeah, what.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Here's here's let's do that. We're gonna do this probably
- 32:06Speaker 1: about weekly, but just because tournament talk and we gotta
- 32:13Speaker 1: love it. What's right now? We're likely gonna go undefeated
- 32:18Speaker 1: in non conference play. You know, we have two games
- 32:21Speaker 1: next week that are we'll call him cupcakes that we
- 32:26Speaker 1: should win. What are we what do we gotta get
- 32:32Speaker 1: of that put us at eleven to zero in the
- 32:34Speaker 1: non conference? You get twenty Big Ten games? What's the
- 32:37Speaker 1: what's the gut check feel for making the tournament? And yes,
- 32:42Speaker 1: obviously anything above that gonna get you a better seed.
- 32:46Speaker 1: You would you would like, I say, Dak would like
- 32:48Speaker 1: for his bet for us not to be a ten seed.
- 32:51Speaker 1: He'd like us for to be a six or five.
- 32:53Speaker 1: That would that would make us make him feel a
- 32:55Speaker 1: little better for his side of the bet.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Or one seed.
- 33:00Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, that's not happening.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Like we're on a fourteen game win streak. We're never
- 33:09Speaker 1: gonna lose.
- 33:11Speaker 2: So yeah, they're basically twelve wins right now.
- 33:14Speaker 4: I would say, oh boy, you would think you think
- 33:19Speaker 4: they only need like six more for sure? Eighteen I
- 33:22Speaker 4: think it's the magic eighteen nineteen.
- 33:24Speaker 3: No, I'd say twenty is the lock number. I feel
- 33:29Speaker 3: pretty good.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Yeah, if you go dak if you go six and
- 33:32Speaker 1: four or seven and thirteen and a big ten conference,
- 33:35Speaker 1: you're not getting it.
- 33:36Speaker 3: You gotta go five hundred at least.
- 33:39Speaker 1: And I wouldn't even say five hundred. I think I
- 33:41Speaker 1: think you go nine to eleven.
- 33:43Speaker 3: You're right, sorry, not nine. You have to get to
- 33:45Speaker 3: you have to get to twenty wins. Yeah, so that'd
- 33:47Speaker 3: be nine.
- 33:49Speaker 1: To get it, and obviously anything above that's added bonus.
- 33:52Speaker 1: But that's aw sathing Wet spent a whole lot of
- 33:54Speaker 1: time on. I just thought that's kind of a good
- 33:57Speaker 1: gauge as we continue to go, I we're not gonna
- 33:59Speaker 1: win every game. Nless you're in Dak's brain, you might
- 34:02Speaker 1: think we are, but we're gonna slip up. I think
- 34:05Speaker 1: Saturday is a game.
- 34:06Speaker 3: I don't feel like.
- 34:09Speaker 1: It's gonna be a beef, but you know you compete
- 34:11Speaker 1: in that game. You're you're gonna from a from a
- 34:13Speaker 1: team perspective. Not that we're lacking any confidence right now,
- 34:16Speaker 1: but you're gonna say no, Like we're right there going
- 34:19Speaker 1: on a one of the toughest places to play in
- 34:21Speaker 1: the Big Ten and competing. I still think what you
- 34:26Speaker 1: could be due for a blowout game or two.
- 34:28Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be It's gonna be tough.
- 34:31Speaker 1: They're gonna be ready to go. Let's just a.
- 34:32Speaker 3: Saturday game against a ranked opponent, two ranked opponents. Like
- 34:36Speaker 3: I think it's gonna be a.
- 34:39Speaker 1: They're not. Let's just say we won't come in there
- 34:42Speaker 1: as like a under the radar anymore.
- 34:44Speaker 3: They're they're gonna be geared up for us. Yes, they're
- 34:46Speaker 3: gonna they're gonna see the Wisconsin blowut and be like,
- 34:49Speaker 3: oh no, we're not. That's not having at us.
- 34:51Speaker 4: So if I pet the over under right now on,
- 34:54Speaker 4: let's go, let's go twenty three wins.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Would you guys take the over under right now?
- 35:00Speaker 1: I under.
- 35:03Speaker 2: Barely see. I think I think twenty three is about
- 35:07Speaker 2: what they're gonna be at.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Are you regular season or including conference tournament?
- 35:12Speaker 2: Just just regular season?
- 35:13Speaker 1: And I'd still go under.
- 35:14Speaker 3: But yeah, I think I think we're going to be
- 35:19Speaker 3: right around the twenty three.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Wins das years Right now, the hamster's running up in
- 35:23Speaker 1: his head right now, I can see.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Someone like, well, someone movement.
- 35:26Speaker 4: Some of us podcast hunters thought they're gonna twenty three
- 35:29Speaker 4: losses come in the year so.
- 35:30Speaker 3: And I just think we're going to win the tournament game.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Uh any more basketball for right now.
- 35:43Speaker 3: I just wanted to shout out to ladies.
- 35:44Speaker 4: Also, Yes, and did you guys see what that spread
- 35:49Speaker 4: was going into OMAR game eight and a half?
- 35:54Speaker 1: Hosting open tryouts? Dach, go ahead and go try out?
- 35:57Speaker 2: Is that true? That actually the we are having open tryouts?
- 36:01Speaker 1: Yes?
- 36:02Speaker 2: Wow for the men's team, no women's.
- 36:05Speaker 1: For women's okay, Dak, go go change your gender and
- 36:09Speaker 1: try out.
- 36:10Speaker 3: I will.
- 36:11Speaker 2: I would get cooked by anyone that's even trying.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Out there, exactly. It would be the best thing ever.
- 36:19Speaker 4: Nope, that is not going to happen. See, that could
- 36:21Speaker 4: have been our bet, but no, you wanted to have
- 36:23Speaker 4: a marathon.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Uh. Lastly, the other graphic ESPN posted with the three
- 36:30Speaker 1: undefeated teams volleyball team still doing their thing tonight tonight
- 36:38Speaker 1: or tomorrow night, Thursday, tomorrow night. Dak just shrugged his
- 36:43Speaker 1: shoulders because he doesn't care.
- 36:47Speaker 3: I mean it, it is wild that we're a third
- 36:51Speaker 3: of the way through the basketball season and we have
- 36:53Speaker 3: less losses between men's, women's and volleyball than we did
- 36:58Speaker 3: in the football program.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Not just less zero zero. Yeah, you're right, Kansas is
- 37:06Speaker 1: that we got and then the winner of A and
- 37:09Speaker 1: M and Louisville on.
- 37:13Speaker 3: That they the selection committee had to get that bus
- 37:17Speaker 3: Boom Kelly Rival like rematch up there.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Everyone was freaking out because we almost got beat in
- 37:24Speaker 1: a set against Kansas State, and it was like, oh boy,
- 37:29Speaker 1: could we almost get beat in the set? It will
- 37:32Speaker 1: see like this team obviously knew very early on that
- 37:40Speaker 1: you're they're gonna win a lot of games, they're gonna
- 37:42Speaker 1: make the tournament, they're gonna be a high seed, probably
- 37:44Speaker 1: a one seed, Like they were building all towards starting
- 37:48Speaker 1: to ramp up these opponents. It's like you're especially with
- 37:53Speaker 1: volleyball and women's sports in general, for the postseason where
- 37:58Speaker 1: a lot of the chalk Seeds win. It's like you're
- 38:01Speaker 1: playing one of those games on your phone where you
- 38:03Speaker 1: start at like an easy level and you just every game,
- 38:05Speaker 1: you just you're getting the next rank up. Like that's
- 38:08Speaker 1: what's happening right now, and that's what it's going to
- 38:10Speaker 1: continue to be like, and you know, we're checking the box,
- 38:13Speaker 1: checking the box, checking the box. You hope you don't.
- 38:17Speaker 1: You know, you get three attempts, right, you get three
- 38:19Speaker 1: strikes before you actually fail. I have to restart at
- 38:22Speaker 1: level one. You know, you might get a nick there,
- 38:26Speaker 1: but you still get the level done. That's what it
- 38:28Speaker 1: feels like right now. That's where we're moving.
- 38:30Speaker 3: I just have this sick feeling that it's gonna like
- 38:33Speaker 3: I'm still burned by the Texas Championship game a couple
- 38:35Speaker 3: of years ago where we just oh, yeah, so good,
- 38:38Speaker 3: and then we went up and we just could even
- 38:40Speaker 3: receive a serve and got absolutely ruled by Texas. I
- 38:45Speaker 3: don't think that will happen this year because our teams,
- 38:48Speaker 3: our team's really freaking good and we beat the first
- 38:51Speaker 3: you know, with the first five games of the year,
- 38:54Speaker 3: we beat you know, pitt and Kentucky, who are also
- 38:57Speaker 3: both Pit's a number two seed but Kentucky's number one seed.
- 39:01Speaker 3: I'm to remember who else we beat, but we beat all,
- 39:03Speaker 3: like the really good teams. Because the big town was
- 39:06Speaker 3: a little bit down this year. All of our non
- 39:09Speaker 3: con games were actually really good. And that was when
- 39:11Speaker 3: we were that's the beginning of the year when we're
- 39:13Speaker 3: still figuring stuff out with a new coach and new
- 39:16Speaker 3: rotation players and new strategies. So the fact that we've
- 39:21Speaker 3: had a whole season to kind of hone that I
- 39:26Speaker 3: don't know, buy the tickets.
- 39:31Speaker 1: All right?
- 39:31Speaker 2: Switch hold on.
- 39:33Speaker 4: I want to question for you guys, I don't watch
- 39:35Speaker 4: much women's basketball. What team do you think take it
- 39:38Speaker 4: right now? Is better the women's basketball team?
- 39:40Speaker 3: Are the men's Probably men's mm hmm.
- 39:50Speaker 1: You're saying, just relatively speaking to the.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Yeah, take ticket right now, which which the field?
- 39:56Speaker 1: Women's?
- 39:58Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 39:58Speaker 1: Probably har it's hard questions. Probably women's right now. I
- 40:03Speaker 1: think there's less.
- 40:06Speaker 3: The powers at the top of women's are a little
- 40:08Speaker 3: bit a little bit of flux right now, and you know,
- 40:12Speaker 3: like usc A Juju Watkins is out kind of like
- 40:14Speaker 3: and a lot of the big players graduated last year
- 40:17Speaker 3: or are hurt this year like this.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Do you do you have a uh discrimination problem that
- 40:24Speaker 1: you'd like to talk about? What against women? No?
- 40:30Speaker 3: Loves women.
- 40:31Speaker 2: I don't like women's I do not like women's basketball,
- 40:35Speaker 2: like watching it, I can't stand it.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Or volleyball.
- 40:37Speaker 4: Well, volleyball is always on during football, and I hate
- 40:40Speaker 4: when people turn.
- 40:41Speaker 2: You know, I won't start.
- 40:42Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. Do you have a problem against
- 40:44Speaker 1: women's sports?
- 40:46Speaker 4: No, the big big championships on Saturday night and all
- 40:48Speaker 4: we have to watch the Husker women's volleyball team.
- 40:50Speaker 2: I don't give two ships a BIGA championship game.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Problem against women's sports?
- 40:55Speaker 3: No?
- 40:56Speaker 1: No, I definitely does seem like you do.
- 40:59Speaker 4: I like watching the volleyball team, just not when it's
- 41:01Speaker 4: on during like any other football.
- 41:03Speaker 2: If I'm gonna watch that, I.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Got a letter of a potential lawsuit against you because
- 41:08Speaker 1: you're discriminating against women's sports. So mail.
- 41:12Speaker 4: All I'm saying is it's we'll say the vikings are
- 41:15Speaker 4: on Sunday and someone goes over here, oh wait to
- 41:17Speaker 4: watch a follyball game?
- 41:17Speaker 1: No?
- 41:18Speaker 4: Fuck, that's sorry. Sorry for the French. But let's let's
- 41:22Speaker 4: watch the Vikings game.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Just be careful, don't. I don't. We don't need this
- 41:26Speaker 1: podcast getting any in trouble for women's rights and Title nine.
- 41:31Speaker 2: You know, I'll take that back. I'd rather watch US
- 41:33Speaker 2: football than the Vikings. But anyways, I'm.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Gonna clip that and save that for life. Uh football,
- 41:42Speaker 1: change our heads and headspace a little bit. Where are we? Uh?
- 41:51Speaker 1: Utah is who we play in the ball game?
- 41:53Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 41:54Speaker 1: We knew that last time. Oh God did a podcast
- 41:58Speaker 1: and it's in Vegas. But here's ball games in general. Uh,
- 42:06Speaker 1: there's obviously we'll try to stay away right now, and
- 42:08Speaker 1: maybe we we'll get into it about the national picture
- 42:12Speaker 1: of ball games in general and the transfer portal, the
- 42:16Speaker 1: opt outs, the drama around under Dame and the playoffs.
- 42:24Speaker 1: I just think that playing Utah in Vegas is not
- 42:29Speaker 1: a good scenario for Nebraska, and I'm sure that they
- 42:31Speaker 1: will have opt outs as well. But when we're going
- 42:34Speaker 1: into the game without Dylan Royola, without Emmitt Johnson, without
- 42:38Speaker 1: Rocko Spindler.
- 42:41Speaker 3: It's gonna be it's gonna be ugly thiefs.
- 42:44Speaker 1: We're not sure how much he's gonna be practicing. We're
- 42:47Speaker 1: obviously anticipating him playing the game, but.
- 42:50Speaker 2: It's it's one of the biggest threads in the ball games.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Probably probably, I mean you usually don't see ball games
- 42:55Speaker 1: that go much higher than where they're at now. I
- 42:57Speaker 1: think it's the lines at fifteen and a half, yeah
- 43:00Speaker 1: to it. I don't think it's been officially announced yet,
- 43:02Speaker 1: but their speculation this could be Kyle Whittingham's last game
- 43:06Speaker 1: as a head football coach for Utah, not because he's
- 43:10Speaker 1: getting a fire but because he's just getting old and
- 43:14Speaker 1: wants to retire, which you don't see really ever anymore
- 43:19Speaker 1: at at a power conference of a coach just retiring
- 43:24Speaker 1: because he's old. You know, bowl games, you hope that
- 43:30Speaker 1: if you're you can have the motivation edge. I think
- 43:34Speaker 1: that's a big thing to look at in addition to
- 43:36Speaker 1: all the player opt outs, is you know who's more
- 43:39Speaker 1: motivated to play in the bowl game, who's got reason
- 43:41Speaker 1: to get up for it? Well, add that to Utah's
- 43:45Speaker 1: reasons for playing for their head coach in his last game.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Oh and let's also add their top ten rushing team
- 43:55Speaker 1: in the country, their quarterbacks mobile. Just all the things
- 44:01Speaker 1: that have been our new defensive, we'll have.
- 44:04Speaker 2: New defense you can help for.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know, Like you talk about the motivation
- 44:16Speaker 1: or the selling points, that rule has to do the
- 44:21Speaker 1: current players. But then coming out of this game, depending
- 44:25Speaker 1: on how it ends up to transfer portal guys, that
- 44:29Speaker 1: is going to be opening shortly after our game. Again,
- 44:34Speaker 1: good luck like it. I just think we're in a
- 44:38Speaker 1: very very tough spot right now, and Utah's that that
- 44:43Speaker 1: that game is not not gonna help causes much.
- 44:47Speaker 3: Because I was surprised that we ended up. I mean,
- 44:50Speaker 3: I'm I was president. I was surprised, But because what
- 44:54Speaker 3: are the big ten teams could have been chosen ahead
- 44:56Speaker 3: of us, I'm surprised we got New Year's E Bowl.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Well, so I will say that the fans, I think.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Here, here's here's the first thing you got to my
- 45:06Speaker 1: bowl games, and I over the last well, since the
- 45:08Speaker 1: twelve team playoff, the bowl time, like and in general
- 45:17Speaker 1: in the past us growing up, the later bowl game
- 45:19Speaker 1: that you play in, the more prestigious. The New Year's Eve,
- 45:26Speaker 1: New Year's Day Bowl games prestigious bowl games. Right, that's
- 45:30Speaker 1: not so much the case anymore because of the playoff.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Like the playoff games are that's twentieth or whatever. So
- 45:38Speaker 1: like the bowl game schedule is very flip so I
- 45:40Speaker 1: don't I'm not I don't read too much into the
- 45:44Speaker 1: slot of where you get placed. I think this is
- 45:47Speaker 1: the third or fourth big ten bowl game. The the
- 45:50Speaker 1: other couple the Music City Bowl in Nashville, the one
- 45:56Speaker 1: in Florida that we were in toxic before getting just
- 45:59Speaker 1: absolutely a blue iterated by Penn State and Iowa. You
- 46:02Speaker 1: know those felt Iowa, and one of them plays Vanderbilt.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Who plays someone plays Tennessee, Illinois plays Tennessee, Tennessee in
- 46:16Speaker 1: in Nashville, USC. I think got a pretty good draw.
- 46:20Speaker 1: They play somebody else like, so yeah, there there's.
- 46:27Speaker 3: Deep.
- 46:27Speaker 1: Would you rather play Tennessee or Vanderbilt? I don't know,
- 46:29Speaker 1: not really, Yes.
- 46:31Speaker 2: I think Utah is about the worst drawing the RAS
- 46:33Speaker 2: could get.
- 46:36Speaker 1: I don't think I want to play Vanderbilt.
- 46:40Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 46:40Speaker 4: I think I think all all Utah is gonna do
- 46:43Speaker 4: is throwing the Iowa Penn State tape and let's and
- 46:45Speaker 4: say let's do this, and and they will be able
- 46:49Speaker 4: to do it.
- 46:50Speaker 1: Here's the thing with bowl games to me, like big
- 46:53Speaker 1: picture of conversation. Did they matter? Yes, do they matter
- 46:56Speaker 1: as much as they used to know? They just they
- 46:59Speaker 1: what what they matter the most for is gaining momentum.
- 47:02Speaker 3: And practice and seeing guys practice.
- 47:05Speaker 1: You're building your team. It's kind of a start of
- 47:07Speaker 1: next year almost, you can. You can think of it
- 47:09Speaker 1: that way. If you don't make the playoffs, it's it's
- 47:11Speaker 1: a it's a way to get a winner game in.
- 47:16Speaker 1: I guess with your new players, because a lot of
- 47:18Speaker 1: players are gonna opt out of their seniors or draft players,
- 47:22Speaker 1: or if they are staying, you know, it's kind of
- 47:23Speaker 1: their last hurrah as a player for your team. So
- 47:28Speaker 1: I don't know, it's just it's one of the I'm
- 47:31Speaker 1: gonna watch it, Yes, But as you can see right now,
- 47:35Speaker 1: it just feels like they're gonna need to make some
- 47:37Speaker 1: changes to the whole structure because there's a lot of
- 47:41Speaker 1: people complain. I mean, the team's a lot of teams
- 47:44Speaker 1: opting out which they're getting fined which, and slop on
- 47:48Speaker 1: the wrist for the amounts compared to what everybody's making. Now,
- 47:54Speaker 1: things are going to change, I think very quickly in
- 47:56Speaker 1: the Bowl world of what that looks like. I've seen
- 47:58Speaker 1: several ideas thrown out and the more stirring that there
- 48:03Speaker 1: is the more push for people to make changes on
- 48:07Speaker 1: stuff like this, and I think it will change. It's
- 48:10Speaker 1: a matter of time win whether that be a bigger playoff,
- 48:12Speaker 1: a secondary tournament of some sort. But I think that's
- 48:18Speaker 1: coming down down the road. But here we are playing Utah.
- 48:26Speaker 4: Is this the last time we're gonna see the Chief
- 48:28Speaker 4: in a Husker jersey? Because it sounds like he's gonna
- 48:30Speaker 4: play East practicing Now.
- 48:33Speaker 1: If I had, if I was a betting man right now,
- 48:36Speaker 1: of who I think our starting quarterback will be in
- 48:40Speaker 1: twenty twenty six, it'll be t J. Latif that's my
- 48:45Speaker 1: that's my thought. I think it's likely that not likely likely.
- 48:49Speaker 1: But I think Dylan Royal is leaving or he's potentially
- 48:52Speaker 1: going to get looked at somewhere else. And news is
- 48:57Speaker 1: gonna come fast, guys, every every week. We better talk
- 49:00Speaker 1: about it while we can.
- 49:02Speaker 2: It won't be long.
- 49:03Speaker 3: If he does leave, I would like, yeah, he just
- 49:07Speaker 3: if he's gonna leave it, just announce, you know, if
- 49:09Speaker 3: he knows, just do it. I mean, it's I I'm
- 49:13Speaker 3: glad we fired Donovan. I think we gave him the
- 49:17Speaker 3: run that he just you know. I think it warranted.
- 49:20Speaker 3: You know, you got four years and four years there's
- 49:23Speaker 3: no improvement. And then when you fire Donovan, you kind
- 49:27Speaker 3: of put it like you put Dylan in the position where
- 49:30Speaker 3: it's like, well, were you here just for your uncle?
- 49:32Speaker 3: Like it. I'm glad we did it before he left.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Because I think those two things are more unrelated than
- 49:39Speaker 1: people think.
- 49:40Speaker 3: No, I don't disagree, but it does make it so
- 49:44Speaker 3: that when we fired Donovan, it was like, oh, we're behold.
- 49:47Speaker 3: It just changes the dynamic, the power dynamic of what
- 49:50Speaker 3: Matt rules is in the locker room. It's like, oh,
- 49:52Speaker 3: now that Dylan's left, we can fire there.
- 49:55Speaker 1: And now you have now now you're looking at it
- 49:57Speaker 1: more from a unbiased no, no more elephant in the room.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Like and I think fans you make a story. I
- 50:06Speaker 1: I I do think like just in general, your transfer
- 50:10Speaker 1: portal guys for process people like Dylan, you just want
- 50:18Speaker 1: to test the market, like and we found out Dylan
- 50:21Speaker 1: tested the market last year too. You want to see
- 50:23Speaker 1: what you're worth. And I mean there's rumors all out
- 50:26Speaker 1: there on what he's asking and I mean I've heard
- 50:28Speaker 1: the number five million thrown out there is what he's
- 50:30Speaker 1: trying to sell himself for which again you're gonna you're
- 50:32Speaker 1: gonna throw a number out there and see if anybody
- 50:35Speaker 1: bites it, and if they don't, you know, you're you're
- 50:37Speaker 1: going to adjust. But there's agents, there's all this stuff
- 50:40Speaker 1: that's working out there in in that in that world
- 50:44Speaker 1: now that we don't even understand how it's working. It's
- 50:48Speaker 1: just a very different process. It's not as simple as
- 50:51Speaker 1: people think it is.
- 50:52Speaker 3: So there are no contracts that they're beholden too. So
- 50:57Speaker 3: why wouldn't you every year treated us for you.
- 51:01Speaker 1: Test it, see see what it's at, and then see
- 51:04Speaker 1: where you end up. And then you know up nobody
- 51:05Speaker 1: wants him and he can't make as much as he's
- 51:08Speaker 1: making on nebrask he's probably staying yep, And that could
- 51:12Speaker 1: be the case of what ends up happening too like that.
- 51:14Speaker 1: That's probably why he hasn't declared the portal like entering
- 51:19Speaker 1: the portal yet, because not that you can't, but once
- 51:22Speaker 1: you do that, you can always come back. But there's
- 51:24Speaker 1: a there's a persona or a perception around.
- 51:26Speaker 3: Perception of it. You're you're just looking to make a book.
- 51:29Speaker 3: Why should we be invested in you?
- 51:31Speaker 1: Because you from from a coaching but also if you
- 51:34Speaker 1: think about your teammates standpoint, like are you committed to
- 51:37Speaker 1: this program? Well and again as a as an individual,
- 51:40Speaker 1: that's what everybody should do that if you're killing ry Oland.
- 51:45Speaker 1: But you might not get any people pulling on that,
- 51:48Speaker 1: pulling on that bait.
- 51:50Speaker 2: Isn't it interesting how Emma Johnson was there last night
- 51:53Speaker 2: but no.
- 51:53Speaker 4: Royola in the stadium for basketball. Yeah, he's at the
- 51:58Speaker 4: basketball game last night.
- 52:00Speaker 3: No, I have a broken leg.
- 52:04Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I kind of forgot about that. Yeah, so yeah,
- 52:06Speaker 4: he probably doesn't want to. I take that back, my back.
- 52:10Speaker 3: Dylan is not one I'm not. Yeah, he's I don't
- 52:13Speaker 3: know him. And then it would go to basketball games,
- 52:15Speaker 3: I'm not. I don't think that that twy didn't go
- 52:17Speaker 3: to the basketball game.
- 52:20Speaker 2: Well well the one time we went, he wore a
- 52:22Speaker 2: purple jumpsuit.
- 52:23Speaker 1: So yeah, that was, uh, the last football thing that
- 52:29Speaker 1: I really want to talk about and mentioned. And this
- 52:32Speaker 1: is I don't want to play the Debbie downer and
- 52:35Speaker 1: the pessimistic guy again. But I am we just I
- 52:40Speaker 1: just feel like we're in the cycle now. I wouldn't
- 52:43Speaker 1: change it like I do the same thing. You're four coach,
- 52:49Speaker 1: things aren't going well. I said, Matt Rule's got nothing
- 52:52Speaker 1: to sell. It's not oh, here we go, it's not.
- 52:55Speaker 1: It's tough. So what do we do. It's coaching change
- 53:00Speaker 1: time and bring in new guys. And that's now what
- 53:03Speaker 1: you can sell. I guess said that that's that's what
- 53:05Speaker 1: you have to do to have a new life and
- 53:09Speaker 1: say this is well.
- 53:11Speaker 3: That's how you Nebraska, that's how you. All year we
- 53:15Speaker 3: bitch about how bad the offensive line and defensive lines are.
- 53:18Speaker 3: It's like, all right, fine, we'll get new.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Coaches and that. I just feel like we're in that
- 53:23Speaker 1: cycle now of keep the head coach, but replace your assistance.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Maybe it'll I'll say, basketball is the same thing, and
- 53:34Speaker 1: it's not if this is not specific to Nebraska, this
- 53:37Speaker 1: is just in general. But that's where we're at right now.
- 53:39Speaker 1: And so now instead of selling on you can't really
- 53:43Speaker 1: sell the process of what you're currently doing. Because the
- 53:45Speaker 1: process that you're currently doing with this year's schedule and
- 53:49Speaker 1: the more I keep looking back on this year, god
- 53:51Speaker 1: dammage just just a missed opportunity. But the more you
- 53:55Speaker 1: keep doing that, you go, Okay, now you're at five, Ryola.
- 54:00Speaker 1: You bring in Jeep Wade and we can react to
- 54:04Speaker 1: these coaches and think what we want about him. Then
- 54:07Speaker 1: the other one is is Rob Arish from San Diego
- 54:12Speaker 1: State coming in, who was kind of a pick out
- 54:14Speaker 1: a left field, which again I don't mind. I think
- 54:17Speaker 1: guys like that that it's not like we're paying him
- 54:22Speaker 1: a crazy amount, like he still runs a three three
- 54:25Speaker 1: five kind.
- 54:26Speaker 3: Of it's a it's more of a four, more of.
- 54:33Speaker 1: An aggressive which I say that with quotes because that's
- 54:37Speaker 1: what we thought John Butler was gonna do compared to Tony White.
- 54:40Speaker 1: We also said Tony White like, I think you can't
- 54:43Speaker 1: really say three three five and react oh yay, like
- 54:47Speaker 1: Dak just did without throwing the word aggressive in there,
- 54:49Speaker 1: and then you can feel a little better about it.
- 54:51Speaker 1: That's ideally what we've seen him do in his recent stuff.
- 54:56Speaker 1: But what what everybody's a little bit concerned about the
- 54:59Speaker 1: youth and he hasn't coached a major program. I'm okay
- 55:03Speaker 1: with that because it's I like guys that have extra motivation. Eight.
- 55:07Speaker 1: I'm so sick and tired of Nebraska thinking that, oh,
- 55:10Speaker 1: we need to hire the this guy hasn't proven himself right,
- 55:14Speaker 1: He hasn't he hasn't shown himself to to play at
- 55:17Speaker 1: a at A or to coach at a at a
- 55:19Speaker 1: certain level. I don't work coach. I don't want coaches
- 55:24Speaker 1: like that, right.
- 55:25Speaker 3: Most of those people that are proven are either longtime
- 55:28Speaker 3: tenured guys at places or they've moved up the head
- 55:31Speaker 3: coaches and got fired, and that's why they're available.
- 55:33Speaker 1: Because I'd rather take shots on these other guys that
- 55:38Speaker 1: could be really freaking good, but they might not be.
- 55:41Speaker 1: But if they're not, it's not like our other coaches
- 55:43Speaker 1: that strategies worked, because it really hasn't. So I like
- 55:47Speaker 1: the hire, right, I don't know much about the guy.
- 55:49Speaker 1: I don't I haven't went and watched a bunch of
- 55:52Speaker 1: San Diego State film.
- 55:54Speaker 3: Their team was, yeah, their team defense is. He's only
- 55:57Speaker 3: been there two years at San Diego and they had
- 56:01Speaker 3: a really good year this year. So it's but it's
- 56:04Speaker 3: also in the Mountain West, so take that as it is.
- 56:06Speaker 3: You know, a quality of opponent also impacts the metrics.
- 56:13Speaker 3: But I think it's fine. It's you know whatever. We
- 56:18Speaker 3: have a gazillion coordinators on the staff. We'll get more.
- 56:20Speaker 3: I mean, we're getting the defensive line coach in here too.
- 56:24Speaker 3: You know, this is why I didn't say last week.
- 56:26Speaker 3: I'm just so glad Phil Snow's there. He's really leading
- 56:30Speaker 3: the charge with his defensive mind. And you know, if
- 56:35Speaker 3: he's I'm just glad because you know what, I know
- 56:38Speaker 3: he was there when John Butler was there, but he
- 56:39Speaker 3: wasn't that wasn't his problem, you know, like the defensive
- 56:43Speaker 3: issues and so weird. I'm just glad Phil Snow can
- 56:47Speaker 3: help pick that next defensive coordinator. And Phil Snow is
- 56:49Speaker 3: gonna fill in first for the bowl games. He's ready
- 56:52Speaker 3: to go. But you know that's not the defense be
- 56:57Speaker 3: bad with.
- 57:00Speaker 2: Aout Phil Snow being there.
- 57:02Speaker 3: I also love you know, we got the former defensive coordinators,
- 57:05Speaker 3: a de facts coach, and we're just we're just full
- 57:08Speaker 3: of former defensive coordinators and it's all working out.
- 57:13Speaker 1: I don't know, guys, I just I just this is
- 57:17Speaker 1: this is rules.
- 57:19Speaker 2: You're you're done with.
- 57:23Speaker 3: I'm fine with the approach.
- 57:25Speaker 1: You have to do it if you have if you
- 57:28Speaker 1: don't do it, it's it's you have to do it.
- 57:29Speaker 1: But to me, I'm not getting excited or anything with
- 57:34Speaker 1: this whole stab. Unlet's get a bunch of alignment and
- 57:38Speaker 1: you know the recruiting class. It's not great. We you know,
- 57:42Speaker 1: we have a defensive linement in that class. Uh. I,
- 57:49Speaker 1: things aren't going to get better unless unless you start
- 57:51Speaker 1: and redefine that. That's what makes Nebraska football and is
- 57:55Speaker 1: going to help us next year. Yeah. The portal that this,
- 58:00Speaker 1: I mean, this is this is now you have your
- 58:02Speaker 1: you have your basis. Now what you can try to
- 58:04Speaker 1: sell people on. I think you I think that's why
- 58:07Speaker 1: you had to fire Donovan Royol, no matter what you thought.
- 58:09Speaker 1: You had to get someone that I mean we have
- 58:12Speaker 1: he has one guy at least it's entered the portal
- 58:14Speaker 1: that you would hope that we end up getting from
- 58:16Speaker 1: Georgia Tech. You gotta have something something to sell these
- 58:20Speaker 1: guys to get them to come in here. Uh, Otherwise
- 58:23Speaker 1: next year is going to be.
- 58:25Speaker 2: It's gonna be rough. I think will the whole.
- 58:29Speaker 1: Could be tough. Just looking at our schedule right now.
- 58:31Speaker 2: And.
- 58:33Speaker 4: There's just not a lot of domistic outlook of next year.
- 58:37Speaker 2: Boy when I say that, just completely wrong. But anyway, yeah,
- 58:42Speaker 2: next year.
- 58:44Speaker 4: No one's like hyped you're going even next year for
- 58:46Speaker 4: the football team right now at all.
- 58:49Speaker 1: And that's coming from the fan base that dangle of
- 58:54Speaker 1: one dollar bill on their face and they're gonna take
- 58:57Speaker 1: it hype like that.
- 58:58Speaker 3: We say that, we say it now, wait till wait
- 59:03Speaker 3: till the spring game, Wait till August.
- 59:06Speaker 2: Yeah, Honor's gonna be sipping it again.
- 59:08Speaker 3: Next year you're playing college football.
- 59:10Speaker 1: You know, twenty will But I remember this day.
- 59:15Speaker 2: What is it Jane not January? December?
- 59:19Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 59:19Speaker 1: I don't think so, I really, guys. The only way
- 59:23Speaker 1: it changes for me is if we get lineman there.
- 59:27Speaker 1: There the why, the reason why it was hype this
- 59:30Speaker 1: year was because of our schedule, and it actually it
- 59:33Speaker 1: turned out easier than even the schedule laid it out
- 59:37Speaker 1: to be. I it just it. Next year is not
- 59:40Speaker 1: gonna It's not gonna be good.
- 59:41Speaker 3: I don't.
- 59:42Speaker 1: I you can say that, I I really don't. You
- 59:44Speaker 1: can remember this day back in market down, but I'm
- 59:46Speaker 1: going to You're not gonna get anything out of it
- 59:51Speaker 1: unless we get a bunch of linemen, which we could.
- 59:54Speaker 1: That's that's the that's the surviving hope.
- 59:56Speaker 3: I mean, Matrle City's not worried about money anymore.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: So what he said, money is not an issue. Resources
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: are not. But yeah, that whole thing is just odd.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: To me where he went out and like said something
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: publicly about after the yeah, we need basically we need,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: we need to be able to build a forty million
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: dollars roster blah blah blah, and then all of a sudden, Nope,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: we don't need it anymore.
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: We're actually good. So either someone stepped up or Troy
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: Danner was like, hey, man, shut the fuck up, like
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: you need to win and you're good.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Good as stepped up. That's a good I never, I
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: mean never thought about that angle. Someone could have just
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: said that after that comment. Yeah, yeah, don't be making
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: that excuse Matt.
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: I don't think Troy Dan's in hot water.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: Though you do or don't, I don't know. No, I agree,
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: and I think.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: Because they have a powerhouse basketball team, so he's not.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: That's why. That's part of it. Bulleyball and basketball are
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: going on. And I think Troy I think now he's
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: operating because he wasn't. He didn't hire Matt Ruble, so
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: I think he's given the leash. And I think he's
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: kind of starting to be like, okay, we're we're going
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: now like.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: And he's and he's been very as you should, supportive
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: and closely he.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: Gave him the extension, which he doesn't.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: What I think is what I think is going to
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: be the telltale for Troy Danon is depending on how
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: the next year goes under matt rule, how much are
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: you going to stick to him versus.
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: After giving them the extension?
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: Correct?
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: I still I.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Am very much under the opinion that extensions, hiring and
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: firing of coaches the A d yes is the face
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: of it, But they're not making the true decision.
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: For approval from so many people to give him the extension.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: It's the regents and the all the regions and the donors,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: people that are given the big bucks are the ones
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: that are driving those decisions. And as an ad who
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: it's politics, it's politics, who who Whose side are you taking?
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: You know, who are you supporting? That's tough. That's that's
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: why ad jobs are very difficult. Are you are you
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: going to support your people that work for you or
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: are you gonna kind of take the side of the
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: money and and go with them. That that's where it's tough,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: and I mean that that's what That's what Trey Dane's
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: future is going to be relied upon there. But all right, well,
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: I'm sure there'll be a bunch more news that breaks before.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: Next week, but way back after the brasth beats Illinois, m.
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: I say it, we'll probably be like next week and
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: it will probably take Christmas Eve off.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: And we'll figure out the schedule as we get there.
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeahs about if we beat Illinois.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: What's funny is we kind of said off we beat Oklahoma. Well,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: if we beat well.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: We're apprehensive to bully bull.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: But I mean, if you beat Illinois, all of a sudden,
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: it's looking like you're gonna start thirteen.
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: And oh if we beat Creighton, But what if guys,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: what if we blow out Creton?
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: Oh?
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: Check that box? Okay, what if we sneak by Wisconsin?
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: Oh thirty point?
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: Went?
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: I don't, I don't. I just don't know the schedule.
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: Like I said, Creighton might be worse than we thought.
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: Wisconsin was a little bit on downside. They I mean,
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: Wisconsin got killed by Way. So I did see online
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: someone says like, well, maybe the BYU exhibition game wasn't
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: really just an exhibition game because they beat we beat Wisconsin.
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: We beat Wisconsin by thirty and b y, you beat
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: them by twenty eight in our game and it would
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: be a one point game. So it's like, well, okay,
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: maybe he looks good. They do.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: Oh that was right, Okay, that was right.
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: How much way do you think we spent on our
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: basketball program?
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: I know we're about to leave one point five million?
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: I saw.
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: I don't think that's a real number.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: No way, no. I took zero zero merriage in that
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: graphic when it showed Creighton was whatever eight million? And
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: what do you mean one point? Our coach makes that
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: himself makes that.
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: I'm talking on the roster. I want to know a
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: roster spent in exchange.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: I don't either. I am genuinely curious.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: Not much.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Take everything off of our football team for two years
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: and put it all into basketball.
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, we would be freaking Kentucky for that'd
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: be awesome.
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: I mean, Hunor's Bancoun's gonna be less. I'll tell you
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: that if they go to tournament, if we just had BYU,
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: you're gonna go to whatever wherever they play.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: You act like that's a bad thing.
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: Well, and you got to pay for that marathon.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: So yeah, that wasn't part of the deal. It was
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: the winner has to buy it.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, sure, that's like I'd rather run the
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: pay for you have a marathon.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: I'll get you running it with me somehow before the
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: end of the year.
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: Yeah, there's more bets to be had, all
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Right, go back next week, all right, mister
