- 1:40Please, we learned that the hard way.
- 1:43But go to the website worldviewmatters.tv.
- 1:45My brother from Australia is with us again, pastor, Dean Dwyer, Iser Street, Baptist
- 1:52Church into Wumba, Australia.
- 1:55And brother, it's so good to see you always, how you doing, man?
- 1:59Did I hear from your brother, Dan, I'm David, yeah, so good to see you again, too, brother.
- 2:05Yeah, so we've got some good news to report.
- 2:07Dean has been, has busy his life has been with working a job, being a pastor, health
- 2:14challenges, both you and Elsa, your wife.
- 2:18You are going to be a full timer at Iser Street Baptist Church starting in July 1st,
- 2:23is that right?
- 2:24Correct, amen.
- 2:25God start a lot of work in my life since the motorcycle accident six months ago, David.
- 2:31So during that time that, you know, I was laid off, he really grabbed hold of my heart
- 2:36and he really just put on my heart and convicted me and said, look, I want you to move into
- 2:41full time ministry.
- 2:42And making is really hard.
- 2:44I mean, for anyone who has done or was involved in tent-making, I have to explain what that
- 2:51is for those that might not be familiar with the term.
- 2:53Yeah, that's right.
- 2:54I have to explain to people, I don't make tents, I don't go camping, but tent-making merely
- 3:00is that you're deriving your income from a job, but you're also involved in ministry.
- 3:04And the emphasis behind that, of course, where it's not to be such a drain on church
- 3:08finances so that you're gaining an income and supporting your family through other
- 3:14means.
- 3:15But with that comes a lot, a lot of challenges, David, and you know, a lot of long days and
- 3:20a lot of stress, you know, you're constantly juggling in a ministry and work and you've
- 3:24got family there and, you know, you need to look up to yourself as well.
- 3:27So it became really difficult, very stressful.
- 3:32And I say to people, the irony is, you know, for God to get me to take a walk of faith,
- 3:37you had to break my back, you know, in amongst all the pain, there's been a lot of blessing
- 3:42there as well.
- 3:43Wow.
- 3:44Also, we want to just shout out to our friend and brother, Pastor John Penel, Calvert
- 3:50Chapel Lakeville, Illinois.
- 3:52He broke his neck a year ago, summertime, working during some work outside of his church.
- 4:00And I connected you guys because I thought he could be an encouragement to you, just
- 4:04briefly just share how that's going.
- 4:06Oh, Amen.
- 4:07Thank you, David, once again, because he reached out to me and he's been such an encouragement.
- 4:13And we stay in touch quite regularly.
- 4:15So if for anyone in his area, it seems like a stand-up guy, a solid pastor, please go
- 4:20along and support his church in ministry.
- 4:22Yes.
- 4:23Amen, brother Lakeville, Illinois, that's my brother, John Penel, Calvert Chapel there.
- 4:28So Dean, so your church is going to kind of have a little transition there.
- 4:32And I'm sure they're blessed to have you full time where you can concentrate and focus
- 4:37all your energy and efforts into just equipping the saints and doing the work of ministry
- 4:43that we're called to do as you're called to do.
- 4:46Very important topic today.
- 4:47You wrote an article, it's over at Harbinger's Daily, and it was put up on May 10.
- 4:53It's called a problem with truth.
- 4:56God and Satan have very different versions of free speech.
- 5:01So you sent me some notes in addition to what's on Harbinger's Daily.
- 5:07But set this up for us before we dive into some of the bullet points.
- 5:11Why did you, what led you into this topic at this point?
- 5:15Hmm, sure.
- 5:16I think as you talked about your tagline, David, it all comes back to truth.
- 5:21And we see a lot of words spoken in the world at the moment.
- 5:24We so see a lot of written word as well.
- 5:28And in amongst all of that, we've got to try and discern.
- 5:31What is the truth of everything that's going on throughout the world?
- 5:33And I think this has become increasingly difficult for people to be able to sift through
- 5:38and find what is the truth because we have so many voices.
- 5:41We've got voices from friends and family, work colleagues, governments, churches.
- 5:47What is the truth?
- 5:48How can we get to that truth?
- 5:51And this is what this article is all about because it examines what does truth look like
- 5:56in the modern square?
- 5:58And we try and drill down and understand there's really two pathways in terms of how the
- 6:03written and spoken word goes.
- 6:05And we break that into two halves.
- 6:07There's lies and there's truth.
- 6:09And obviously we work up from that foundation.
- 6:12And I think we know as Christians, you have a biblical worldview, we've got to start
- 6:16on the foundation of the truth.
- 6:18And then we work upwards from there.
- 6:21So you write about, oh, you mentioned Isaiah 520.
- 6:26One of the reasons it's so hard nowadays is evil is being called good, good is being
- 6:32called evil.
- 6:33In other words, protecting life in a mother's womb, that's good and that's biblical.
- 6:37But that's being called evil or whatever intolerant and abortion, the murder of preborn babies,
- 6:45that's called a right, a blessing, a choice, a good thing.
- 6:48So they're flipping language, they're changing words.
- 6:51And plus we've got the problem of moral relativism.
- 6:53So what is truth anyway, Jesus said, I'm the way the truth in the life.
- 6:58No one comes to the Father, but through me.
- 7:00And we need to be more discerning now than ever.
- 7:04Go ahead and share whatever else you'd like.
- 7:06Yeah.
- 7:07So Warren Wiesby was a great Bible commentator.
- 7:10He said, people love using God's vocabulary, but not their dictionary.
- 7:15And as you said, that's a really important point because there's a lot of spoken words
- 7:18out there, but people have simply changed their meaning.
- 7:21And as I said, 20 as you quoted is a really good example.
- 7:24It's not that these terms have changed in their definition.
- 7:28It's just that people have called them a different term.
- 7:31And most notably, that's when they flip things upside down and we see this inversion of truth
- 7:36in the public square.
- 7:38Yeah.
- 7:39Inversion.
- 7:40I like that.
- 7:41There's been a flip and in version of truth, I like the way you put that.
- 7:45So it's interesting.
- 7:48You wrote about just different thing, free speech, the word of God, truth and the papers
- 7:55that you sent me.
- 7:56This is even before we touch on the article that, again, friends, it's over.
- 8:00Dean's got page over at harbingers daily.com.
- 8:03We're blessed to have them as one of the sponsors of World View Matters.
- 8:07But why is this important, Dean, or maybe I should say, I know it's everybody listening
- 8:13and watching probably knows it's important, but why does the world have this issue, this
- 8:18problem with truth?
- 8:20Is it because they want to live, however they want and they want to deny that there's
- 8:23God?
- 8:24It's got to be more to it than that.
- 8:26Yeah.
- 8:27Look, David, I think it's as simple as that and there's two reasons that people can't
- 8:31see truth at the moment.
- 8:32One is, of course, we have spiritual deception and we know that that comes from the enemy
- 8:36himself.
- 8:37He has blinded people to the truth.
- 8:40But we love John 316, but a few passages over in John 319 to 20, it really gets to the
- 8:46crux of mankind's problem because it says, and this is the condemnation that light has
- 8:51come into the world and men love darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.
- 8:58For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds
- 9:03should be exposed.
- 9:05So if mankind wants to keep his evil deeds hidden from the world, as he said before, he
- 9:10needs to start calling evil good so that his actions, his behavior, his moral failings
- 9:19are not unveiled as evil because we know people have a problem with the church calling
- 9:26our evil and calling our sins.
- 9:28So quite simply, they change the definition of terms so that people think it's all okay
- 9:32in public square.
- 9:35And the notes you sent me, thank you for going back to Romans 1, and we're seeing that
- 9:41played out in our world today.
- 9:42But Romans 118, earlier you mentioned an inversion of truth, Romans 118 says, for the wrath of
- 9:49God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the
- 9:58truth and unrighteousness.
- 10:00Go ahead and share it.
- 10:01Amen.
- 10:02And I think if you go further on, because there's a price to be paid for meddling with God's
- 10:07truth.
- 10:08This is what people don't understand.
- 10:09And if you go through Romans 1, he lists out very clearly what are the consequences for
- 10:16meddling and disrupting the truth of God?
- 10:20And one of them, you get to Romans 131 and listen, this expresses exactly what's going
- 10:26on in the heart and mind of people, particularly if you look at those people on university campuses
- 10:30which are anti-Jewish in nature, they become understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving,
- 10:37unmerciful.
- 10:38Now, that's pretty harsh language.
- 10:40These people think they're enlightened thinkers, but really they're just under the judgment
- 10:45of God.
- 10:48So before we go to the article, Dean, just walk us through some of these comparisons that
- 10:54you have, that you sent me, because I thought, wow, this is something, I almost wish we
- 11:00had a visual, you know, so people can see the different columns, but go ahead and just
- 11:04explain that.
- 11:05And then we'll take a break in about two minutes and we'll continue later.
- 11:09Absolutely.
- 11:10Well, we'll lead that into that by referring back to the Psalms.
- 11:13And Psalm 1 is a really good Psalm, so people to read, because it speaks about the two pathways
- 11:20available to me and Collins.
- 11:22And so what people might have noticed is that in Psalm 1, the very first word is blessed
- 11:28and the very last word is perish.
- 11:31And that really, really outlines the two parts available.
- 11:35You can also be blessed, but those who delight in the Word of God, or you can perish for
- 11:41those who don't delight in the Word of God.
- 11:43And in Hebrew, that word perish.
- 11:45We think of perish as well, that die or they go into the lasting position.
- 11:50That word perish really just means that wandered away.
- 11:54And that really describes our current state of affairs, doesn't it?
- 11:57For those who do not delight in the Lord of God, the teaching of God, then they wander
- 12:02away and they're on a path to their own destruction, because they don't hold the word of God in
- 12:08their hearts.
- 12:11So I think before we dive into some more of this, I think let's take a brief pause and
- 12:16just shout out to one of our sponsors and we'll come back and we'll continue to dive
- 12:20in.
- 12:21By the way, friends, again, the article is called a problem with truth.

- 13:36Dean Dwyer is our guest today.
- 13:38You guys are blessed.
- 13:39If you live near to Wumba, Australia, you can check out Iser Street Baptist Church.
- 13:44It's Iser Street ST Baptist Church.
- 13:47Dean, we're just barely scratched the surface.
- 13:52I think we've got to pick up the pace a little bit here, brother.
- 13:54It's pretty extensive.
- 13:55I know people can go to Harbinger's and read the article.
- 13:58But go ahead and take us to the next phase of this.
- 14:00Why the world has such a problem with truth?
- 14:03I'm going to tell you something profound, David, that Psalm 1, after that comes Psalm 2.
- 14:10I know that's profound, but Psalm 2 is important.
- 14:14In Psalm 1, it talks about those who delight in the law of God, and in Psalm 2, it talks
- 14:18about those who defy the law of God.
- 14:22This is really what we see play out, and this is why we can break society into two halves,
- 14:26because you've got people who delight in the Word of God, you've got people who defy
- 14:30the Word of God.
- 14:31There's consequences for that.
- 14:32There's consequences in terms of how we think, because we know as believers we have the
- 14:35mind of Christ, but unbelievers they don't.
- 14:39They set themselves up in opposition to the truth of God, and from this flows, as we
- 14:45talked about, a redefinition of terms.
- 14:48People look at that terms very differently.
- 14:52In our current vernacular, we talk about free speech and your reference at article.
- 14:57In that article, we talk about the concept of parasia, which is an old grip term, which
- 15:01refers to speaking freely, confidently, openly, boldly.
- 15:06You might say, well, that describes that characterised as unbelievers at the moment
- 15:10as well, but the difference with parasia we're used in the Bible is that it's always connected
- 15:15to God's truth.
- 15:17This is the anchor point for the Christian who has the biblical worldview, because what
- 15:21we say is connected to God's truth.
- 15:25In the public square, for those who defy God's Word, we know that they only relish free
- 15:32speech when they're able to say things that are in hatred, or in anger, or things that
- 15:38support a particular bias in terms of their argument.
- 15:43So, free speech, we see people using that to say death to America, death to the Jews.
- 15:49Well, there's no fixed truth in that.
- 15:51So they may say, well, we have free speech and we're entitled to free speech.
- 15:55The problem is that when God connects that back to the concept of parasia in the Greek,
- 16:00there has to be connected to truth.
- 16:03And this is the plan of Satan.
- 16:04He wants to divide people from the truth, because we know that what God ordained Satan
- 16:11opposes.
- 16:12So he uses free speech in the mind of the unbeliever to really then start opposing what God had
- 16:18ordained.
- 16:19What have God ordained?
- 16:20We know he ordained family, church, we know that he called out Israel.
- 16:25So we know that because Satan is the father of lies, anything he says, he's not connected
- 16:31to the truth.
- 16:32And I often say to people, because Satan can't create, he corrupts.
- 16:38And that's exactly what he's done in relation to speech.
- 16:41He can't create speech, but he's corrupted speech for his own evil purposes and plans.
- 16:46Wow.
- 16:47That's good.
- 16:48What he cannot create, so he corrupts.
- 16:52I think of the LGBTQ movement.
- 16:56They cannot reproduce, so they have to recruit.
- 16:59Satan is the father of lies, the author of confusion.
- 17:03And I want to go back briefly to Psalm 2, because you brought that up.
- 17:08And it talks about why do the nations rage in the people plot a vain thing?
- 17:13The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together against
- 17:19the Lord and his anointed.
- 17:22And then it goes on.
- 17:23But verse four, I love it.
- 17:24And there's where we can get a good picture.
- 17:27He who sits in the heavens shall laugh.
- 17:31The Lord shall hold them in derision.
- 17:34And then he shall speak to them in his wrath and distress them in his deep displeasure.
- 17:40And then it goes on.
- 17:41But yeah, the nations are raging and plotting against Jesus, against God, the father,
- 17:46the creator.
- 17:47And we see that.
- 17:48One of the ways they do that, they reject the truth.
- 17:50And as you said, they invert the truth.
- 17:54So it's so important.
- 17:55So tell us more.
- 17:56You've talked about Parisa.
- 17:57Is that the right word?
- 17:58Parisa.
- 17:59Parisa, yeah.
- 18:00Parisa.
- 18:01And you brought up an important point, David, because at the moment, there are unbelievers
- 18:05who are speaking against God.
- 18:09And they don't believe that God speaks against them, but he very clearly does.
- 18:12He does that in Romans 1.
- 18:13He does that throughout, as you say, Psalm 2.
- 18:16What is speaking to these people?
- 18:18It's just that they're not listening.
- 18:19And unfortunately, there are going to be a lot of people that suffer eternal punishment
- 18:24because they are not listening to what God has outlined in his work, particularly in
- 18:28terms of the gospel.
- 18:30You know, it's interesting, and we look at the world who has primarily rejected God.
- 18:35Some have never heard the gospel.
- 18:36They're not living necessarily in rebellion, like something that knows that God.
- 18:40They never heard the gospel.
- 18:41They don't know any better.
- 18:43But others are there purposely hating the God they don't believe in, right?
- 18:47You've heard that.
- 18:48That's exactly right, yeah.
- 18:49I don't believe in God, and I hate him.
- 18:53But it's interesting, Christians, too, we've got to be listening.
- 18:57We've got to read the Word and be diligent about listening God speak to us.
- 19:01We can be so busy that we're not hearing the truth and we're not hearing God speak.
- 19:05So I'll continue to go through your article in the next point, whatever you'd like to share
- 19:10Dean.
- 19:11Yeah, absolutely.
- 19:12Look about God's Word because we know that as believers, we uphold God's Word as infallible.
- 19:17We know it's in Aaron authoritative.
- 19:19We know it's reliable and sufficient to meet our needs.
- 19:23And let me read this list to you, David, is that the Word of God is a vital part of the
- 19:28believers' walk of faith.
- 19:29It upholds.
- 19:30It produces joy.
- 19:31It strengthens.
- 19:32It gives hope.
- 19:33It gives light.
- 19:34It gives understanding.
- 19:35It shows God's will.
- 19:36It builds up.
- 19:37It produces fruit.
- 19:38It convicts.
- 19:39It's a sin.
- 19:40It comforts the heart.
- 19:42It corrects the wrong and confirms the right.
- 19:45That's to the believer, but to the unbeliever.
- 19:47They look at the Bible and they see that this is full of hate speech in their words.
- 19:52They see it as unreliable, uninspired.
- 19:55They see it written by people that they believe were unenlightened.
- 19:59And so it's set aside as a word of truth.
- 20:02Some people might call it a literary work, but a lot of people call it fable, but can't
- 20:07give us anything in terms of fulfilling our life.
- 20:12Now I took this from your American Humanist website, listen to this quote, David.
- 20:17If the humanist view of the Bible is correct, millions of Bible believers and church goers
- 20:22are wasting much time, money and energy.
- 20:26Humanity's condition could be greatly improved if those resources were used for solving
- 20:30the world's problems instead of worshipping a non-existent God.
- 20:35Now sad is that the God who loved them so much, he sent his son to die for their sins,
- 20:40they just completely, as you said before, completely and utterly reject his love for them.
- 20:46What an interesting thought from the humanist perspective, that worldview,
- 20:51and that we are wasting our time worshipping a quote non-existent God.
- 20:57And I'm thinking, man, if I hope they hear the gospel from somebody,
- 21:01I hope before it's too late, before they die, because they are in for a rude awakening
- 21:08is too kind of a way to put it, but these people are in for their God's wrath and judgment.
- 21:13Go ahead, Dean.
- 21:15Yeah, absolutely.
- 21:16And look, it all connects back to truth, as we said.
- 21:18And we know that truth flows from the Word of God.
- 21:21John 17, 17, this is a passage that I love, sanctified in by your truth.
- 21:26Your word is truth.
- 21:28So we upholds, you know, the church should be the pillar and foundation of truth.
- 21:32That means that we know with the foundation, when we build our house,
- 21:35the foundation doesn't move.
- 21:37And unfortunately, what we see in the church today is that they've moved the foundation of truth
- 21:41by moving away from a biblical doctrine, a biblical worldview in the church,
- 21:47and what happens then, the pillars come down.
- 21:50So the church is no longer ground and the pillar of truth.
- 21:52And that's why the enemy attacks truth so much, because that's the foundation of our faith.
- 21:58So if you can attack the foundation, then of course we know that they hold house crumbles.
- 22:03The problem and the concern is that we see some in the church grabbing a sledgehammer
- 22:08and attacking their foundations as well.
- 22:10So not only are we here allowing the enemy to do this,
- 22:14then unfortunately, there are some Christians who are attacking the foundation of their own faith as well.
- 22:20And all that's going to do is exacerbate that problem with the foundation coming down.
- 22:25I like what Philips Brooks, he wrote one of my favorite Christmas songs,
- 22:28a little town of Bethlehem.
- 22:31He wrote this,
- 22:32truth is always strong, no matter how weak it looks.
- 22:37And falsehood is always weak, no matter how strong it looks.
- 22:41And that's what we see play out in the public square.
- 22:44They give the impression, particularly on university campuses,
- 22:47that's this free Palestine movement, is a strong movement,
- 22:50but it's based on falsehood.
- 22:52So it's utterly weak.
- 22:54And that's why we as believers need to continue to speak up against anti-Semitism
- 22:58that we see in our societies.
- 23:00Unfortunately, that movement has come to Australia.
- 23:02So there are some universities in Australia, sadly,
- 23:06who have started to do these protests as well.
- 23:09And that just greets my heart, David.
- 23:11It's just a terrible, terrible thing.
- 23:14Well, it's ignorance on steroids.
- 23:16And part of the problem is the redefinition of truth
- 23:19or the suppression of truth,
- 23:20because they don't know true world history,
- 23:24let alone the Bible and the truth and the Old Testament
- 23:28and about the land and about God's promises.
- 23:31And so much more.
- 23:32But Dean, let's go over to Ephesians 6.19,
- 23:35which you share with Paul writes,
- 23:38for me, he prays that utterance may be given to me
- 23:42that I may open my mouth boldly
- 23:46to make known the mystery of the gospel.
- 23:49And so you say parisia is used there as well.
- 23:53And it talks about free speech connected to truth,
- 23:57confident free speech.
- 23:58So in the last four minutes, Dean,
- 24:00let's just talk about that in our responsibility.
- 24:04Yeah, absolutely.
- 24:05And we do have a responsibility.
- 24:06I mean, this is what Christians sometimes neglect or forget.
- 24:10We talk about the concept of pastors
- 24:12and people like yourself and others who are in front line ministry.
- 24:15That they are the ones that should really be out there
- 24:18and be outspoken.
- 24:19But this is the task of every believer.
- 24:21And I think we need to focus and concentrate more
- 24:24on equipping each believer in order to be outspoken
- 24:29in public square.
- 24:30Because as we know from the scriptures,
- 24:32we are all part of the royal priesthood,
- 24:34which means that we all have a role to play.
- 24:37Some are gifted in some areas and God uses that.
- 24:40But we can all speak to friends, family,
- 24:43workmates, particularly about the concept of truth.
- 24:47Now, when it comes back to Parasia, as I said,
- 24:49this is speaking boldly, confidently, openly,
- 24:53because it connects back to God's truth.
- 24:54And I love, there's a passage in Acts 431.
- 24:58And it says, and when they had prayed,
- 25:00the place where they were assembled together was shaken.
- 25:03And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
- 25:06and they spoke the word of God with bolts.
- 25:09And that's that Greek word Parasia.
- 25:11That was filled with the Holy Spirit.
- 25:13Remember how the disciples were at the point
- 25:15of the crucifixion and then look at them now
- 25:18as they filled with the Holy Spirit.
- 25:20And to that for us, as believers,
- 25:22we have the indwelling Holy Spirit.
- 25:25We have that same boldness, confidence, and power
- 25:28if we're willing to use it and allow God to use us.
- 25:32That's a great point.
- 25:33Their transformation must have been really astounding
- 25:37from these many of them.
- 25:39We're uneducated fishermen.
- 25:41In fact, what gospel is it, Dean, oh wait a minute,
- 25:45no, it's the book of Acts where it talks about the Pharisees,
- 25:50the religious leaders warned them,
- 25:52they're threatening them not to speak in Jesus' name.
- 25:54Peter was preaching boldly.
- 25:56And one thing that they observed is they had been
- 25:59with Jesus.
- 26:00Amen.
- 26:01So that's a good example for us to be in God's word,
- 26:06spend time in his presence.
- 26:07And we will get the word of God in us.
- 26:10And hopefully that will produce some natural Lord,
- 26:13I trust you.
- 26:14I'm led by the Holy Spirit,
- 26:15some little boldness of ourselves.
- 26:17Close us out here in the last minute and a half.
- 26:20Amen.
- 26:21I was reading a bit of Australia's history the other day.
- 26:24And you know on our coat of arms,
- 26:25people might realize and people in Australia as well,
- 26:28that on our coat of arms is a kangaroo and an emu.
- 26:32And people might wonder why they chose those animals.
- 26:34But did you know that kangaroo and the emu,
- 26:37they cannot move backwards.
- 26:39They are two animals that cannot move backwards.
- 26:42And so I think Australia chose that
- 26:44because of its progressive nature
- 26:46that always wanted to move forward as a nation.
- 26:48But unfortunately what we see is that Australia
- 26:52is moving backwards.
- 26:53So I mean, unfortunately we have joined in this UN vote
- 26:58recently where they want to propel this concept
- 27:01of the Palestinian state.
- 27:03And so unfortunately what I see is Australia has gone
- 27:05backwards spiritually.
- 27:06There's a spiritual decline in Australia.
- 27:08And that grieves us.
- 27:10There's a number of really good pastors in Australia.
- 27:13I know there's a concept that particularly amongst
- 27:16Aussie believers that there's no good churches here.
- 27:19There are good Brendan believers here.
- 27:20There are good Brendan pastors here.
- 27:22Go out and look for them, support them, pray for them
- 27:25because they really need your help.
- 27:27That's a good point.
- 27:28So many nations have moved backwards spiritually.
- 27:32America, I mean, I see our decline.
- 27:35I don't know if we're moving backwards.
- 27:37It feels like it from where we should be going
- 27:40from our founding and what we were so blessed with.
- 27:42But Dean, I always go by so fast
- 27:44where I was good to connect with you.
- 27:46We'll see you in the near future.
- 27:47Thank you.
- 27:49Thank you, brother.
- 27:50All right, guys, what a blessing.
- 27:51And thank you for supporting the show
- 27:53and sharing the podcast.
- 27:54God bless you.
- 27:55And as always, keep speaking the truth about things that matter.
