- 0:00When we begin to recognize the inherent power of the mind,
- 0:04independent of any reliance on the physical senses and the
- 0:08nerve pathways that link them to the mind, the question then
- 0:12arises as to how to become aware of, bring forward and train the
- 0:18use of these powers that are currently subliminal within the
- 0:21human being. Yogic practitioners have
- 0:24described the inner psychology and psychological landscape and
- 0:28have identified the basic mind or manas as well as the higher
- 0:33intellect, buddhi. They have also traced the
- 0:37pathways of interaction between mind and our environment and
- 0:41they have recognized that there is a basic mind stuff, chitta,
- 0:46which vibrates with the incoming impressions and becomes agitated
- 0:51as waves in a churning sea when it attaches to, following and
- 0:56becoming involved with the source of those impressions, or
- 0:59at least the impact those impressions have.
- 1:04They have developed a number of mechanisms to bring the chita to
- 1:07a state of quiescence, including various forms of meditation,
- 1:13breath control, and non attachment to thought.
- 1:17When the mind comes to a state of silence and is in a state of
- 1:21receptivity, it can experience elements of its inherent nature
- 1:26and explore subliminal powers of mind that it otherwise does not
- 1:30tap into when it is fully engaged with the surface
- 1:34impressions. We can also expect that as the
- 1:38pressure of the next evolutionary stage of the
- 1:41expression of consciousness makes itself felt, that powers
- 1:45that are currently subliminal to the action of our mental mode of
- 1:48being will come to the surface, grow and mature, and a stable,
- 1:54established powers that become part of the normal action of
- 1:59mind. Shrioro Bindu observes quote.
- 2:04Sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch are really properties of
- 2:10the mind, not of the body. But the physical mind which we
- 2:14ordinarily use, limits itself to a translation into sense of so
- 2:20much of the outer impacts as it receives through the nervous
- 2:23system and the physical organs. But the inner manas has also a
- 2:28subtle sight hearing power of contact of its own, which is not
- 2:34dependent on the physical organs.
- 2:37And it has, moreover, a power not only of direct communication
- 2:42of mind with object, leading, even at a high pitch of action,
- 2:46to a sense of the contents of an object within or beyond the
- 2:50physical range, but direct communication also of mind with
- 2:55mind. Mind is able, too to alter,
- 2:59modify, inhibit the incidence, values, intensities of sense,
- 3:04impacts these powers of the mind we do not ordinarily use or
- 3:09develop. They remain subliminal, and
- 3:12emerge sometimes in an irregular and fitful action, more readily
- 3:18in some minds than in others, or come to the surface in abnormal
- 3:22states of the being. They are the basis of
- 3:26clairvoyance, clairaudience, transference of thought and
- 3:30impulse, telepathy. Most of the more ordinary kinds
- 3:34of occult powers so-called, though these are better
- 3:38described less mystically as powers of the now subliminal
- 3:42action of the manas. The phenomena of hypnotism and
- 3:47many others, depend upon the action of this subliminal sense
- 3:50mind. Not that it alone constitutes to
- 3:54all the elements of the phenomena, but it is the first
- 3:57supporting means of intercourse, communication and response,
- 4:02though much of the actual operation belongs to an inner
- 4:05booty mind. Physical mind, supra.
- 4:09Physical. We have and can use this double
- 4:13sense mentality. End Quote Reference Sri
