- 1:04I'm your host, Lauren Meisner, the founder of the youth digital
- 1:07media brand Centennial World. Welcome back to mini scroll,
- 1:12everyone. Before I get into it, Please
- 1:14remember to rate, review and subscribe.
- 1:16Please Spotify star rate US. We're trying to get to 1000
- 1:19Spotify star ratings. We're pretty close.
- 1:22And please also follow me on Instagram, OK?
- 1:24I'm trying to get to 10,000 followers on Instagram.
- 1:27I am also very close. It's at Lauren Meisner under
- 1:30score. All right, let's get into the
- 1:33first story for today. The story of the day.
- 1:37Actually, the story of my day is Kyle and Amanda from Summer
- 1:42House announcing that they are finally divorcing.
- 1:45And that's not me being shady. If you guys watch Summer House,
- 1:48you know we have all been waiting for this day.
- 1:51Finally, Amanda will be free of that manchild, that 45 year old
- 1:56DJ manchild. I know some of you guys asked me
- 1:59to cover Bravo here and there, but the reason why I don't is
- 2:01first of all, I don't really think it makes sense for the
- 2:04niche. But second of all, even if it
- 2:06did, to me Bravo is sacred. Like I really cannot handle
- 2:12losing Bravo to my work life. I really can't ruin it for
- 2:16myself. So that's why I don't really
- 2:18cover Bravo, but mostly because it doesn't really make sense
- 2:20with the niche. OK.
- 2:22Anyways, yes, the pop culture story of the day that is the
- 2:25biggest story for most people is that Brooklyn Beckham has
- 2:29finally spoken out about his estrangement from his parents,
- 2:33and he's given several details about what's been going on over
- 2:36these past few years. Rumors of a family rift
- 2:39seemingly started around the time of Brooklyn's wedding to
- 2:42Nicola Peltz in 2022. At the time, there were reports
- 2:45that Victoria had backed out of designing Nicola's wedding
- 2:48dress. And I also remember that there
- 2:50were reports that Victoria made Nicola cry at I don't know if it
- 2:54was a fitting or amongst the wedding planning at some point.
- 2:57High stakes podcast. They actually did a deep dive
- 2:59into this entire feud. So if you guys are interested in
- 3:03more in depth coverage on that, they did it I think at the tail
- 3:06end of last year. I suggest listening to that
- 3:09episode. You can find their podcast.
- 3:10You can just search High Stakes Podcast on Apple, on Spotify,
- 3:14anywhere. You guys get podcasts.
- 3:15They're part of our network. So yes, that's when things
- 3:18really started to circulate online.
- 3:20Since then, there have been several moments and press leaks
- 3:23about the Beckhams and Brooklyn that have made it obvious that
- 3:26there are issues there. Obviously the biggest narrative
- 3:29in the press was that Nicola was controlling of Brooklyn and was
- 3:33causing issues in the family. Classic.
- 3:36We're always blaming the woman in this situation.
- 3:38So now Brooklyn has spoken out. The statement is 6 pages long so
- 3:43I won't read it all, but I will give you the highlights.
- 3:46I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these
- 3:48matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and
- 3:51their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no
- 3:54choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only
- 3:58some of the lies that have been printed.
- 3:59I do not want to reconcile with my family.
- 4:02I'm not being controlled, I'm standing set for myself for the
- 4:05first time in my life. He talks about how his parents
- 4:08have gone to great lengths to portray this very specific,
- 4:11curated image of their family in the press and on social media.
- 4:15He said my parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my
- 4:18relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn't stopped.
- 4:21My mom canceled making Nicholas dress in the 11th hour despite
- 4:24how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently
- 4:27find a new dress weeks before a big day.
- 4:29My parents repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into
- 4:32signing away the rights to my name, which would have affected
- 4:35me, my wife and our future children.
- 4:37They were adamant on me signing before my wedding date because
- 4:41then the terms of the deal would be initiated.
- 4:43My holdout affected the payday and they have never treated me
- 4:46the same sense. I want to know what this means.
- 4:48I do know that at some point years ago the Beckham's
- 4:52trademarked the names of all of their kids.
- 4:55So I imagine that they were going to release some type of
- 4:58like family related line product brand.
- 5:04I don't know. And this was smart on Brooklyn's
- 5:06part because obviously if he signs away his name, then I
- 5:10guess that means he probably as an individual wouldn't be able
- 5:13to release anything under his own name.
- 5:16And if he did, then his parents would get at least some type of
- 5:19like financial cut from that. And if they did, if he did sign
- 5:23his name away to them, then they can launch anything with his
- 5:26name on it. I think that's what I've seen
- 5:28floating around. I don't know, I'm not a lawyer,
- 5:30but I really want to know what this is.
- 5:32My mom hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been
- 5:34planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song in front of
- 5:38our 500 wedding guests. Marc Anthony called me to the
- 5:41stage where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance
- 5:44with my wife, but instead my mom was waiting to dance with me.
- 5:48Instead, she danced very inappropriately on me in front
- 5:52of everyone. I've never felt more
- 5:54uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.
- 5:58I need them to release the tapes, release the footage.
- 6:03We know you haven't. I need to see this dance.
- 6:07I need to see it. Obviously, I feel so horrible
- 6:11for Brooklyn in this moment, but I need to see Victoria Beckham
- 6:14allegedly dancing inappropriately on him.
- 6:17Like, what does that mean? Literally what does that mean?
- 6:19I I can't even picture it. I need to know also, I'm sorry,
- 6:23just like how embarrassing for Victoria.
- 6:27And I am not on the Beckham side here.
- 6:28I'm like fully on Brooklyn side, but how embarrassing.
- 6:32She must be dying. I feel like as somebody who is
- 6:34so image conscious as Victoria Beckham, for this narrative to
- 6:38be out there now that she had this, like, inappropriate dance
- 6:41moment with her son that really embarrassed him.
- 6:44She must be dying. My wife has been consistently
- 6:47disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we've tried to
- 6:50come together as one. My mom has repeatedly invited
- 6:52women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly
- 6:56intended to make both of us uncomfortable.
- 6:58And then he talks about the situation where he missed his
- 7:00dad's birthday, I guess he says that they were there for a week.
- 7:04They were trying to figure out ways to meet up with the family,
- 7:07presumably to, like, talk about all of this.
- 7:09And then they refuse to meet him only if they went to David
- 7:13Beckham's birthday party. So they decided not to go and he
- 7:17keeps going. There's a lot.
- 7:18I'm sure you guys have all like seen it by now or at least heard
- 7:20about it. OK, so here's my opinion on
- 7:22this. I am sure there are some people
- 7:24thinking like there's two sides to every story and that parts of
- 7:28this could be sensationalized. But I think regardless of that,
- 7:33like we will never know. But I think regardless of that,
- 7:36a child going no contact with their parents is incredibly
- 7:39traumatic. And it's not a decision that I
- 7:41imagine anyone takes lightly. I don't imagine you get to the
- 7:44point where you're going not only no contact with them, but
- 7:47also speaking out publicly about this and like truly severing
- 7:51that tie without reaching a breaking point.
- 7:55And in my opinion, the parent child relationship, there is
- 7:58always a power dynamic in favor of the parent, even when the
- 8:02child is an adult, which I think should be taken into account
- 8:05when we talk about adult children going no contact with
- 8:08their parents and what that decision was like.
- 8:12That's kind of an aside. But I think that is often
- 8:14missing from the conversation is the power dynamic there.
- 8:17I believe from the statement and what we know about his
- 8:20relationship with Nicola, Brooklyn was opened up to a life
- 8:25independent of the Beckham name and from what his parents
- 8:28expected of him through this relationship with Nicola.
- 8:31And I think Nicola is kind of being used as a scapegoat in
- 8:33their family, like as the reason that they all tell themselves
- 8:37that Brooklyn has left them. Reminder, Brooklyn is an adult
- 8:40man with a fully he formed frontal lobe and his own agency
- 8:45OK, and he is choosing to live a life separate to his family.
- 8:50These are his choices that he's making.
- 8:53You know, his wife cannot control him, cannot force him to
- 8:56do anything. And I really don't believe that
- 9:00she is the reason that his whole family is now broken up.
- 9:04I also do want to say we should hopefully be able to hold 2
- 9:08truths here. People love to bring up that
- 9:10Nicola is the child of a billionaire family and that she
- 9:14has a very problematic past. Like she was apparently a
- 9:17nightmare to her nannies growing up.
- 9:18Apparently she physically assaulted one at one point.
- 9:21I think she bullied girls as teenagers.
- 9:23I've seen in the press like there's a lot of narrative
- 9:25around like what she was like as a kid.
- 9:27She may have been a nightmare child, which I do think we
- 9:31should keep in mind if children are lashing out that much.
- 9:35I don't. Again, I just don't think
- 9:37children want to be lashing out. I just don't think children want
- 9:41to be that disruptive. I don't know.
- 9:43I don't have kids, but that is my take on that.
- 9:45But I think regardless, she may have been a nightmare.
- 9:48She may have been a bully. She may have been a mean girl, a
- 9:51bad person. Like we don't know.
- 9:53I don't know. But I also think she is probably
- 9:56also being painted on fairly by the media in this situation and
- 10:00being used as the scapegoat in the Beckhams versus Brooklyn
- 10:04situation. I feel so sad for Brooklyn.
- 10:07Like reading these posts, whether there is an element of
- 10:10sensationalization or not, Like regardless what his parents have
- 10:14done and how they've treated his wife and how they've treated
- 10:17their relationship has obviously hurt him so much.
- 10:20The point where he doesn't talk to them anymore and he's now
- 10:23putting up this like, very public statement, which, you
- 10:25know, as soon as he, like, he was very aware this was going to
- 10:28blow up, like this was going to be everywhere.
- 10:31And this is making a huge statement.
- 10:33And I also love that this is an example of a man who was
- 10:37choosing his wife over, I don't say like his mother, but like,
- 10:41over his, you know, his family and like this toxic dynamic that
- 10:45they allegedly have going on. We see too many relationships
- 10:48break down because the man cannot stand up to his family
- 10:52and set boundaries around their relationship.
- 10:54So this is a great example of that.
- 10:57All right, the next story that I have for you guys, it's a really
- 10:59quick one, but it's everywhere. Everyone's talking about it on
- 11:02Reddit. So the daily dirty is leaving
- 11:06Alex Cooper's unwell network. The Daily Dirty was a daily pop
- 11:10culture news podcast Co hosted by TikTok creator Hannah Kosh,
- 11:13Sequoia Holmes and Fiona Shea. And a few days ago, Hannah, who
- 11:17is the main host of the show, and I only say that she had the
- 11:19biggest following and I'm pretty sure the show was kind of built
- 11:22around her pop culture coverage on TikTok posted on her channel,
- 11:26a screenshot of her in the recording studio with this
- 11:28caption. The end of an era at the Daily
- 11:31Dirty. So many incredible guests, over
- 11:33200 episodes, a full billboard in Times Square.
- 11:35This is going to be a very juicy chapter in the memoir one day by
- 11:40Unwell. So unlike with Alex Earl, it
- 11:42seems like Hannah was not able to keep the Daily Dirty as she
- 11:45didn't say the end of the era with Unwell.
- 11:47She said the end of an era with the show and Unwell.
- 11:50I imagine the Daily Dirty was probably a show that was created
- 11:54by Unwell and then they brought the girl to host.
- 11:56Everyone's like, please, we need the tea on on.
- 12:00Well, like what is going on? They seem to just be like
- 12:03cutting shows left and right and everybody's posting these like
- 12:06shady things. And I think part of it is like
- 12:08the shady posting is, you know, these are already creators with
- 12:12platforms and they're used to over sharing their lives.
- 12:15So we're probably going to get like more quote UN quote with
- 12:19feels like tea from them than if it was like a more traditional
- 12:22like, I don't know, somebody who was like not as public about
- 12:25their lives as like a creator is going to be.
- 12:27I think with the daily dirty, it probably did come down to
- 12:31numbers and the commercial viability of that.
- 12:34Despite Hannah having over 1.2 million followers and being part
- 12:37of Unwell, which is obviously a huge network, the show's TikTok
- 12:41only had 8000, 1000 followers and it's Instagram only had
- 12:445000. And I know that might not be a
- 12:46good indication of how many listeners there are, but I think
- 12:50it shows the impact or the influence of a show like that.
- 12:53It really shows that it didn't reach the scale that it needed
- 12:56to in terms of like cultural impact online to be able to
- 13:01continue to scale, I guess. And I think part of it, I don't
- 13:05know, I never listened to it because I don't really listen to
- 13:07pop culture podcasts anymore because I can't because then it
- 13:10just like influences my opinions here and stuff.
- 13:12But I think part of it, when I was scrolling through their
- 13:14content, it seems like they covered really mainstream stuff.
- 13:18Whereas like, Hannah is a known figure in Internet culture
- 13:21because she was one of the first kind of bigger pop culture
- 13:24creators that was covering that. And she covered a lot of
- 13:26Internet culture, like a lot of like TikTok drama and like all
- 13:29that kind of stuff in her early days on her channel.
- 13:32So like, she should obviously have been doing this Daily Show.
- 13:36I mean, not because that's what I'm doing, but she should have
- 13:38been doing a Daily Show on Internet culture and kind of
- 13:42leaving mainstream pop culture for the existing podcasters that
- 13:45have been doing that now for years.
- 13:47That's my opinion on this. And I don't think that was
- 13:49necessarily up to her. Like, I do think that this was a
- 13:51show, like I said, created by Unwell or Serious and they just
- 13:56brought them in. I feel like it's also possibly
- 13:58obvious that the Unwell Network doesn't do a lot of like
- 14:01marketing promotion stuff for their various shows.
- 14:04I don't know, as far as I can tell, like I'm very tapped into
- 14:07this space and I don't see a lot of promo for their various
- 14:10shows. So that could be an issue that
- 14:12people have as well. And podcasting is just a hard
- 14:15skill. Like bringing in Tik Tokers,
- 14:17like TikTok is such a different medium from podcasting.
- 14:19So bringing in Tik Tokers to host all these podcasts, like I
- 14:23understand why some of them just like don't hit.
- 14:25Yes. I would love to hear your
- 14:26theories on this. I was saying to Annabelle
- 14:28earlier when we were talking about the story.
- 14:30I was like, you know, whenever anything like this happens, I
- 14:33just I can't help but think about how if it was me, OK, like
- 14:37if I was Hannah during this time where my show is ending, I'm
- 14:41having to announce it. My whole life is transitioning
- 14:44now. I would not be able to stop
- 14:47thinking about. And this is like obviously my
- 14:49problem the day when I like got reached out to about unwell when
- 14:56we signed the contract, when the Billboard went up in Times
- 14:59Square, Like I would just replay those moments of highs and like
- 15:04how these girls probably felt like on top of the fucking
- 15:07world, like everything was about to open up for them.
- 15:09Like this was their big break moment, like it was all
- 15:12happening. And I would just think about
- 15:14like that high and how everything had just dissolved
- 15:18from there. Like I was just like, I feel so
- 15:20bad for them. Like we obviously don't know
- 15:22what happened, but I just cannot imagine how heart wrenching that
- 15:25would feel to be like I was on top of the world and I had so
- 15:28much hope and so much promise and like everything was gonna
- 15:31work out. And Oh my God, like I made it.
- 15:32Like I finally fucking did it. And then to feel like it was all
- 15:36taken away. And I'm not saying that that's
- 15:38what happened. I don't really know.
- 15:40We don't know what happened. Maybe they walked away.
- 15:41Like we don't know. It would be heartbreaking either
- 15:43way. OK.
- 15:44And the next story that I have for you guys, the last story.
- 15:46This is one that I would normally not cover, but I think
- 15:50you'll understand why I chose to after.
- 15:53So Patrick Starr, his brand one size is venturing into skin care
- 15:58two years after he got his aestheticians license.
- 16:01I love throwing in some beauty influencer news every once in a
- 16:05while. It's like my roots, like back to
- 16:07my roots, my true passion here. And I saw Jen Love's review
- 16:10cover this in one of her recent videos.
- 16:13I wanted to share this because I thought it was relevant to us
- 16:16and what we talked about here from a different perspective
- 16:18than how Jen covered it. So influencer beauty brand One
- 16:22Size by Patrick Starr has announced last week that they
- 16:24are expanding into skin care. One Size has been quite
- 16:27successful in the makeup space for a while now.
- 16:29They have a couple cult products, including their
- 16:31setting spray. And what's interesting here is
- 16:34that Patrick, the founder, the influencer behind it, obviously
- 16:37revealed in 2023 that he had obtained his estheticians
- 16:40license. He didn't say why, but a lot of
- 16:43fans were like, oh, it does that mean he's going to be doing
- 16:45something around skin care? And obviously that was part of a
- 16:48larger plan because One Size has now expanded into skin care.
- 16:52So this is from the One Size website.
- 16:54Innovative formulas for all skin types.
- 16:56Patrick Starr earned an aesthetician license to ensure
- 16:59all products would work for his sensitive skin.
- 17:02Now, in Jen's video, she talked about how like, an aesthetician
- 17:05is not a cosmetic formulator. So that is an important
- 17:08distinction when we're talking about Patrick's involvement in
- 17:10the product. But nevertheless, I think
- 17:14Patrick getting his license is nothing but a good thing for
- 17:17both the brand and also setting like a really amazing precedent
- 17:22for the industry. We see so many influencers and
- 17:26celebrities launch these companies, particularly in the
- 17:29beauty space where you know, they barely are involved at all.
- 17:32They're there for the paycheck. Maybe they're there for the
- 17:34accolades to be able to say that they're a brand owner or ACEO.
- 17:39If you know, you know, and how many beauty and skin care brands
- 17:43just have like a celebrity and influencers face basically
- 17:47slapped on it and it's like, oh, this is Ariana Grande's brand.
- 17:51Is Ariana Grande really involved in R.E.M. beauty?
- 17:54I don't know. No shade to Ari Annabelle's
- 17:56going to kill me because she's like her number one.
- 17:58And consumers hate this. This sentiment from fans is that
- 18:02they just chill to us. They exploit their followers for
- 18:06personal financial gain. I mean even Michaela's POV
- 18:09beauty people are like what the fuck is this?
- 18:10Like people really have such a bad view of influencer and
- 18:16celebrity beauty brands and they have for years.
- 18:19So Patrick getting his license and then launching skin care two
- 18:23years later shows how seriously he takes business and in my
- 18:28opinion how much he respects his fan base.
- 18:30Especially because skin care is not something to mess around
- 18:33with, right? And like, could this be
- 18:34performative? I don't know, maybe.
- 18:36But it doesn't really matter if he's done a lot more work than
- 18:39what a lot of other influencers and celebrities could say in
- 18:42this space now than what a lot of his peers would ever do for
- 18:44their brands. And I feel like that at the end
- 18:47of the day is what is going to build trust with his audience
- 18:50and what's going to make people excited to try this product.
- 18:52He's walking the walk, OK, and I love it.
- 18:55I think it's setting a really good precedent.
- 18:57Anyways, guys, that's it for Mini Scroll today.
- 18:59Thank you so much for listening. I love you guys.
- 19:02Please remember to read, review and subscribe.
- 19:04Please Spotify star rate US, follow me on Instagram and I
- 19:08will talk to you guys. Well, Annabelle will talk to you
- 19:10guys tomorrow and then I'll talk to you on Thursday.
- 19:12Bye.
