  SPEAKER_00: They took my brother.
• 0:02
SPEAKER_00: Please, I need your help.
• 0:04
SPEAKER_00: Wildwood Something Magical trailer breakdown and reaction.
• 0:08
  SPEAKER_00: Hey everyone, it's Kilbert K here.
• 0:10
SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to my channel.
• 0:11
  SPEAKER_00: Okay, folks.
• 0:12
SPEAKER_00: Leica just dropped another look at Wildwood called something magical.
• 0:17
SPEAKER_00: And apparently people agree with that title because this thing is getting a lot of attention.
• 0:24
SPEAKER_00: And after watching a few times, I understand why.
• 0:27
SPEAKER_00: This is only about a minute long, but somehow Leica manages to pack more atmosphere, detail, and personality into 60 seconds, then some movies manage it in two hours.
• 0:39
SPEAKER_00: So today we're breaking down Wildwood something magical, what caught my attention, and why I think this movie could be something very special.
• 0:47
SPEAKER_00: And yes, I used the word something twice.
• 0:51
  SPEAKER_00: Let's get into it.
• 0:52
SPEAKER_00: First, this doesn't feel like a typical animated movie.
• 0:55
SPEAKER_00: The first thing that hits me is the world.
• 0:57
SPEAKER_00: Look at the forest, look at the characters, look at the tiny details in the background.
• 1:03
SPEAKER_00: There's something about stop motion where you can almost feel the movie.
• 1:07
SPEAKER_00: The clothes have texture, the trees have texture, the characters have little imperfections.
• 1:13
SPEAKER_00: Everything feels physical because so much of it actually is physical.
• 1:18
SPEAKER_00: And that's something I love about Leica.
• 1:20
SPEAKER_00: They don't make movies that look like they came off an assembly line.
• 1:24
SPEAKER_00: They make movies that look like somebody actually made them with their hands.
• 1:29
  SPEAKER_00: Imagine that in 2026.
• 1:31
  SPEAKER_00: What a concept.
• 1:32
  SPEAKER_00: And Wildwood looks huge.
• 1:34
SPEAKER_00: This isn't just characters walking around tiny sets having conversations.
• 1:39
SPEAKER_00: We're seeing forests, flying sequences, creatures, armies, action, entire environments.
• 1:46
SPEAKER_00: And somehow they're doing this in stop motion.
• 1:48
  SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
• 1:49
SPEAKER_00: So what exactly is Wildwood?
• 1:50
SPEAKER_00: If you're seeing this footage for the first time and wondering what this movie is actually about, and here's the simple version.
• 1:57
SPEAKER_00: We follow a young girl named Prue McKeel.
• 2:00
SPEAKER_00: Her baby brother is suddenly taken away by a murder of crows.
• 2:04
SPEAKER_00: And yes, before somebody jumps into the comments, a group of crows really is called a murder.
• 2:10
SPEAKER_00: Which sounds like something invented specifically for Leica movie.
• 2:14
SPEAKER_00: Prue follows them into this mysterious place called the Impassable Wilderness, a hidden forest outside Portland.
• 2:20
SPEAKER_00: And that's where things get weird.
• 2:22
SPEAKER_00: Talking animals, bandits, different groups fighting for power, magic, danger, and apparently a much bigger conflict happening inside this world.
• 2:32
SPEAKER_00: Prue's friend, Curtis, joins her, and what begins as a mission to rescue her brother turns into something much bigger.
• 2:39
  SPEAKER_00: But here's what I like.
• 2:41
SPEAKER_00: Underneath all the fantasy creatures and spectacle, the story seems very simple.
• 2:46
SPEAKER_00: A girl wants her little brother back, that's it.
• 2:48
SPEAKER_00: And sometimes that's exactly what a big fantasy movie needs.
• 2:53
SPEAKER_00: Give me a simple emotional reason to care, and then show me the crazy stuff.
• 2:57
  SPEAKER_00: And there's the animation.
• 2:58
SPEAKER_00: This is where I have to give like a credit.
• 3:01
SPEAKER_00: Some of these shots don't even look like stop motion anymore.
• 3:04
SPEAKER_00: And I mean that as a compliment.
• 3:06
SPEAKER_00: The movement is incredibly smooth, the camera moves, the characters move, environments feel alive.
• 3:12
SPEAKER_00: And then you remember somebody had to move these puppets frame by frame.
• 3:17
SPEAKER_00: Think about that the next time you're annoyed because your computer takes 10 seconds to export some.
• 3:23
SPEAKER_00: Leica has reportedly used 136 sets and 231 practical puppets for the Whitewood.
• 3:32
SPEAKER_00: And when you see the scale of this movie, those numbers start making sense.
• 3:36
SPEAKER_00: This isn't stop motion trying to look small and charming.
• 3:39
SPEAKER_00: This looks like Leica saying, okay, folks, what if we make an epic fantasy movie that just happened to be stop motion?
• 3:46
  SPEAKER_00: And that's the difference.
• 3:47
SPEAKER_00: The visuals are beautiful, but also a little creepy.
• 3:51
SPEAKER_00: And this is another thing Leica understands very well.
• 3:53
SPEAKER_00: Kids can handle weird, actually.
• 3:56
  SPEAKER_00: Kids love weird.
• 3:57
  SPEAKER_00: Look at Caroline.
• 3:58
SPEAKER_00: That movie gave an entire generation trust issues with buttons.
• 4:02
SPEAKER_00: And Wildwood seems to have that same balance.
• 4:05
SPEAKER_00: It's beautiful, but something feels slightly dangerous.
• 4:08
SPEAKER_00: The forest is magical, but you don't necessarily want to go wandering through it alone.
• 4:14
SPEAKER_00: The animals are charming, but some of them look like they could absolutely ruin your afternoon.
• 4:19
SPEAKER_00: And that's what makes it interesting.
• 4:21
SPEAKER_00: The movie isn't saying, Welcome to our magical forest, everything is wonderful.
• 4:26
SPEAKER_00: It's saying, Welcome to our magical forest, you may not survive.
• 4:31
  SPEAKER_00: Much better.
• 4:31
SPEAKER_00: The voice cast is ridiculous.
• 4:34
SPEAKER_00: And then we have the cast.
• 4:35
SPEAKER_00: Peyton Elizabeth, Lee voices Prue, Jacob Tremblay voices Curtis.
• 4:39
SPEAKER_00: But then listen to some of the names.
• 4:42
SPEAKER_00: Carrie Mulligan, Marshali Ali, Angela Bassett, Aquafina, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandela Steinberg, Jermaine Clement, Richard E.
• 4:52
  SPEAKER_00: Grant, and Tom Waits.
• 4:54
SPEAKER_00: That's not a voice cast, that's somebody playing Hollywood fantasy football.
• 4:58
SPEAKER_00: And Angela Bassett voices a giant golden eagle called the General.
• 5:03
  SPEAKER_00: Come on.
• 5:03
SPEAKER_00: If Angela Bassett tells me she's the general, I'm joining the army.
• 5:08
  SPEAKER_00: No questions asked.
• 5:09
  SPEAKER_00: Here's another reason I'm excited.
• 5:10
SPEAKER_00: Whitewood is directed by Travis Knight.
• 5:13
SPEAKER_00: If that name sounds familiar, he directed Kubo and the two strings.
• 5:17
SPEAKER_00: And Kubo is still one of the most visually beautiful stop motion movies I've seen.
• 5:22
SPEAKER_00: Knight also went into live action with movies including Bumblebee, but now he's back directing stop motion at Leica.
• 5:29
SPEAKER_00: And this feels like a filmmaker returning home, but returning home with a much bigger toolbox.
• 5:35
SPEAKER_00: Because Wildwood doesn't look like Leica simply repeating what they've done before.
• 5:40
SPEAKER_00: It looks like they're trying to push their style into much larger fantasy adventure.
• 5:45
SPEAKER_00: Here's something you may not know.
• 5:46
SPEAKER_00: Just hold on a sec.
• 5:48

• 6:04
SPEAKER_00: I truly appreciate your being part of the show.
• 6:06
SPEAKER_00: Now let's get back to it.
• 6:07
SPEAKER_00: Wildwood is based on a 2011 novel written by Colin Millloy, the front man of December's, and illustrated by Carson Ellis.
• 6:16
SPEAKER_00: And the real life inspiration is especially cool.
• 6:19
SPEAKER_00: Millloy and Ellis live around Portland, Oregon, and a mysterious forest.
• 6:24
SPEAKER_00: And the story was inspired by the area around Forest Park.
• 6:28
SPEAKER_00: So the idea basically takes a replace and asks, what if there were an entire secret word hiding inside it?
• 6:34
  SPEAKER_00: That's such a simple idea.
• 6:35
SPEAKER_00: But it's a great one because who hasn't walked past a forest as a kid and wondered what's actually in there?
• 6:42
SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, not an army of talking animals, but you never know.
• 6:46
  SPEAKER_00: Why something magical works?
• 6:47
SPEAKER_00: Now let's talk specifically about this new footage.
• 6:50
SPEAKER_00: What I like about this promo is that it doesn't spend 60 seconds desperately trying to explain the entire movie.
• 6:56
SPEAKER_00: It's selling you a feeling: mystery, wonder, adventure, danger, and that's smart.
• 7:02
SPEAKER_00: Because we've already had longer footage explaining the basic story.
• 7:06
SPEAKER_00: This one basically says, look at this world.
• 7:09
  SPEAKER_00: And sometimes that's enough.
• 7:11
SPEAKER_00: There are movies where I watch the trailer and think, okay, I know exactly what's going to happen, beginning, middle, and ending.
• 7:18
SPEAKER_00: Thank you very much, trailer.
• 7:20
SPEAKER_00: You just save me 20 bucks.
• 7:22
SPEAKER_00: This doesn't give me that feeling.
• 7:24
SPEAKER_00: I still have questions, and that's exactly how I want to leave a trailer.
• 7:28
  SPEAKER_00: But here's one concern.
• 7:30
SPEAKER_00: My only question in it right now is whether the story can match the visuals.
• 7:35
SPEAKER_00: Because visually, Leica has already sold me.
• 7:38
SPEAKER_00: Take my money, but a beautiful movie still needs character we care about.
• 7:42
SPEAKER_00: And with a word this big, there's always the danger of introducing too many characters, too many groups, too much mythology, and too many things happening at once.
• 7:51
SPEAKER_00: The emotional relationship between Prue and her brother needs to remain the heart of the movie.
• 7:57
SPEAKER_00: If Leica can keep that story simple while everything around it becomes bigger and crazier, I think they could have had something really special here.
• 8:06
  SPEAKER_00: So here's my take.
• 8:07
SPEAKER_00: I don't think Wildwood looks interesting simply because it's stop motion.
• 8:11
SPEAKER_00: I think it looks interesting because Leica appears to be using stop motion to make something bigger than what we normally expect from stop motion.
• 8:20
  SPEAKER_00: There's ambition here, there's personality, there's darkness, there's humor, there's craftsmanship, and most importantly, there's curiosity.
• 8:27
SPEAKER_00: I want to know what's inside that forest, I want to know what these characters are hiding, and I want to see how far Leica can push this world.
• 8:34
SPEAKER_00: In animation landscape, where so many movies can start to look and feel similar, Wildwood immediately looks like Wildwood.
• 8:41
SPEAKER_00: And that might be its biggest advantage.
• 8:44
SPEAKER_00: So, yes, something magical, that's a pretty bold name for your own promo.
• 8:49
SPEAKER_00: But based on what I've seen, Leica might actually be able to back it up.
• 8:53
SPEAKER_00: Wildwood hits theaters October 23rd, and I want to hear from you.
• 8:56
SPEAKER_00: Are you excited for the Wildwood?
• 8:58
SPEAKER_00: Do you think this could become Leica's next Caroline or Cubo and the Two Strings?
• 9:03
SPEAKER_00: And most importantly, would you enter the Impassable Wilderness?
• 9:07
SPEAKER_00: Because I'm going to tell you right now, if I see a murder of crows flying toward me, I'm going the other way.
• 9:13
SPEAKER_00: Prue can handle this one.
• 9:15
