- 0:00Speaker 1: Imagine a world where the battle between good and evil
- 0:03Speaker 1: isn't just a story told in hushed tones around a campfire,
- 0:06Speaker 1: but a stark reality that invades the lives of ordinary people.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Where dark forces lurk not just in the shadows, but
- 0:13Speaker 1: behind the eyes of your neighbor, your friend, or even
- 0:17Speaker 1: your family member. What's up, Boo Crew? I'm Selena Spooky Boo,
- 0:21Speaker 1: and today we are going to be talking about real
- 0:23Speaker 1: life exorcisms.
- 0:24Speaker 2: This stuff's too real for me. I want none of
- 0:27Speaker 2: this in my life. It's weird, bro.
- 0:29Speaker 3: It's weird.
- 0:30Speaker 1: My tea is blue today. We're in a good mood.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 2: About that tea, though. What happens when you put lemon
- 0:36Speaker 2: in it?
- 0:36Speaker 1: If you put lemon in this tea, it turns the
- 0:38Speaker 1: blue tea purple. And I'm all over it.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Love it.
- 0:40Speaker 1: From the quiet streets of small towns to the bustling
- 0:43Speaker 1: lanes of metropolitan cities, these stories traverse the globe, revealing
- 0:47Speaker 1: encounters with the diabolical that have left communities shaken and
- 0:51Speaker 1: faiths profoundly tested. Coming in at number one, we have
- 0:55Speaker 1: Roland Doe. That's a funny name. Roland Doe?
- 0:59Speaker 2: It's like Schitt's Creek, Roland Schitt.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Yeah, Roland Schitt and Jacqueline Schitt. The enduring fear that
- 1:04Speaker 1: evil spirits can seize control over humans has haunted humanity's
- 1:08Speaker 1: nightmares throughout history. This ancient terror, deeply ingrained in the
- 1:12Speaker 1: human psyche, has given to the rise to numerous horrifying
- 1:16Speaker 1: tales and rituals aimed at banishing such spirits, a practice
- 1:21Speaker 1: known as the exorcism. This fear is vividly captured in
- 1:25Speaker 1: the spine-chilling 1973 horror film.
- 1:28Speaker 2: The Exorcist, directed by William.
- 1:41Speaker 1: As one of the most successful horror films ever made,
- 1:44Speaker 1: The Exorcist not only gripped audiences with its chilling narrative,
- 1:48Speaker 1: but also drew critical acclaim for its powerfully terrifying portrayal
- 1:52Speaker 1: of demonic possession. However, not everyone is aware that the
- 1:56Speaker 1: roots of this film stretch deep into the soil of
- 1:59Speaker 1: true events making the story behind it just as eerie
- 2:03Speaker 1: as the film itself.
- 2:05Speaker 3: What was your favorite part of the exorcist uh the
- 2:08Speaker 3: projectile vomit oh that was great like the head oh
- 2:13Speaker 3: the head's so spooky what is it about turning heads
- 2:15Speaker 3: even in modern day.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Because you because you can't do it oh because you
- 2:19Speaker 4: you know your neck hurts we're we're older now Our
- 2:22Speaker 4: real-life story begins in the late 1940s with a young
- 2:25Speaker 4: boy known under the alias Roland Doe, who was mourning
- 2:29Speaker 4: the death of his beloved aunt.
- 2:31Speaker 1: She had introduced Roland to the mythical world of spiritualism
- 2:35Speaker 1: and taught him how to use the Ouija board. But
- 2:37Speaker 1: after her passing, a series of strange events and occurrences
- 2:41Speaker 1: began to unfold in Roland's home. It started with eerie noises,
- 2:45Speaker 1: dripping sounds, and scratching that seemed to emerge from the walls. Initially,
- 2:51Speaker 1: Roland's family thought that these were benign messages from the aunt,
- 2:54Speaker 1: trying to communicate from the beyond. They responded by reaching out.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Dumb dumbs.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Don't do that.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Leave it alone.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Do not reach out to this type of spirit.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Not if it's scratching.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Like, come on. No.
- 3:06Speaker 1: At least it's a raccoon. Hoping to make contact with
- 3:09Speaker 1: her and perhaps help her find peace. Little did they
- 3:12Speaker 1: know that their actions would only invite darker forces into
- 3:15Speaker 1: their lives. Guys, I'm going to say it now. I'm
- 3:17Speaker 1: going to say it again. If you don't know what
- 3:18Speaker 1: you're doing, don't get into it.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Don't.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Research. Google for things before you do anything like this, okay?
- 3:23Speaker 2: You could literally just scare yourself and not even be haunted. Yeah.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Just haunt yourself.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Haunt yourself.
- 3:28Speaker 2: You don't even know it.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Haunt yourself.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Don't do this.
- 3:29Speaker 1: The situation escalated quickly. Roland reported hearing footsteps in his
- 3:33Speaker 1: room at night, disturbing his sleep. And each morning, he
- 3:37Speaker 1: found fresh scratch marks on his mattress. Whoa, like through it?
- 3:41Speaker 1: That's crazy. Before long, these mysterious scratches began to appear
- 3:44Speaker 1: on his body as well.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Ugh. Hmm.
- 3:48Speaker 1: As supernatural attacks grew more intense, the family realized that
- 3:51Speaker 1: they were dealing with something far beyond their understanding.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Actual, like, scratching and actual things showing up on the
- 3:57Speaker 2: human body, that always freaks me out.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Oh, that's terrifying, especially if it's in threes, because then
- 4:00Speaker 1: it's mocking the tree.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Like, I'd love to have that investigated in situations. Like,
- 4:05Speaker 2: if we could have proof of a scratch showing up
- 4:07Speaker 2: without something happening, if it got caught on video or something.
- 4:10Speaker 1: You just, like, watch it happen?
- 4:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that's, like, that would be so cool.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Terrific.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Look at my snazzy new frames. As you guys know,
- 4:18Speaker 1: I spent a violent amount of time on the computer
- 4:20Speaker 1: for my job, so when I needed some blue light glasses,
- 4:22Speaker 1: I knew exactly where to go. Warby Parker. Now they
- 4:25Speaker 1: design all their glasses and frames in-house, and these are
- 4:28Speaker 1: so lightweight, and honestly, they're built to last. I'm obsessed
- 4:31Speaker 1: with these. Simply, the craftsmanship is insane, and I love
- 4:35Speaker 1: the combo of this black and gold. These glasses just
- 4:38Speaker 1: feel really unique, which honestly kind of feels like me.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Warby Parker has a virtual way to try on glasses.
- 4:44Speaker 1: You can get glasses or sunglasses and you get to
- 4:47Speaker 1: virtually try them on at home. But hey, maybe that's
- 4:49Speaker 1: not your thing. And that's great because guess what? Orby
- 4:51Speaker 1: Parker has over 250 retail locations across the US and Canada.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So you can try on from the comfort of your
- 4:58Speaker 1: own home or out. in the world. Warby Parker is
- 5:02Speaker 1: your one-stop shop for stylish prescription eyewear, contacts, and eye exams.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Why make three stops? Warby Parker glasses start at only
- 5:10Speaker 1: $ 95 and include prescription lenses with anti-reflective scratch-resistant coatings, and
- 5:16Speaker 1: their eye exams start at only $ 85. And don't forget,
- 5:19Speaker 1: they have free shipping and 30-day returns. So check out warbyparker.com,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and thank you to Warby Parker for sponsoring today's show.
- 5:28Speaker 1: They called upon the local minister, who spent a night
- 5:31Speaker 1: observing the unnerving phenomenon. Convinced that this was no ordinary haunting,
- 5:35Speaker 1: he recommended that the family seek help from the Jesuits.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Taking his advice, the family embraced Catholicism. Am I saying
- 5:43Speaker 1: that right?
- 5:44Speaker 2: Catholicism.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Catholicism. Catholicism? What did I say?
- 5:48Speaker 2: Catholicism.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I should know these words.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I mean, you kind of sounded it out. Not too bad.
- 5:52Speaker 1: But now it's crazy because I never knew Catholicism was
- 5:54Speaker 1: literally just like being Catholic. Good to know.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Cool. Yeah.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Hoping that spiritual strength and religious rituals might protect them,
- 6:01Speaker 1: they attempted to have Roland baptized, but the ceremony provoked
- 6:05Speaker 1: violent outbursts from the boy, displaying a ferocity that shocked
- 6:09Speaker 1: everyone present. With few options left, the family decided to move,
- 6:13Speaker 1: hoping a new home may free them from the grip
- 6:15Speaker 1: of these disturbances. But the spirits, or whatever dark forces
- 6:20Speaker 1: had latched onto Roland, followed them. Furniture was found overturned,
- 6:24Speaker 1: religious icons desecrated, and Roland's mattress shook as if in
- 6:29Speaker 1: the grasp of an unseen force. Can you imagine just
- 6:31Speaker 1: laying in bed and it starts vibrating? I'd be like,
- 6:34Speaker 1: free massage.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Haunt me, please. This feels great.
- 6:38Speaker 1: My back hurts. At their wit's end, the family turned
- 6:41Speaker 1: to a more drastic measure, exorcism. Father Raymond J. Bishop
- 6:45Speaker 1: and Father William S. Bodern, Bodern? Yep, were among the
- 6:50Speaker 1: clergy called upon to confront the entity possessing Roland. Father Bodern,
- 6:54Speaker 1: in an attempt to shield the boy... placed a crucifix
- 6:57Speaker 1: under his pillow, which led to even more violent reactions.
- 7:01Speaker 1: The household was thrown into chaos, with objects flying and
- 7:04Speaker 1: holy items being forcefully displaced. The battle to save Roland
- 7:09Speaker 1: took place over several grueling sessions, conducted in the sterile
- 7:13Speaker 1: environments of Georgetown University Hospital and the Alexan Brother Hospital
- 7:18Speaker 1: in Missouri. Okay, wait, can you imagine? You're going to
- 7:21Speaker 1: the hospital to visit your sick little nanny. And you
- 7:25Speaker 1: walk by a room, and there are priests yelling and
- 7:27Speaker 1: throwing holy water at a kid whose head is spinning
- 7:30Speaker 1: around in circles.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Yeah, no. I would go to a different hospital. No, bye.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I would take my nanny out of there, and we'd
- 7:36Speaker 2: be on the run.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Immediately, no.
- 7:38Speaker 2: That was a thought I had in this, too. Religiously,
- 7:41Speaker 2: in these movies, it works for Hollywood because it's always Catholic,
- 7:44Speaker 2: and it's always like that. But it'd be cool to
- 7:47Speaker 2: see other cultures' versions of exorcisms.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I would want to see a witch's one, like
- 7:52Speaker 1: some Wiccan ones.
- 7:53Speaker 2: That'd be really cool.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Throughout these exorcisms, Roland exhibited terrifying behavior. He vomited, urinated,
- 7:59Speaker 1: and spat, all while speaking in tongues and manifesting a
- 8:03Speaker 1: voice so deep and alien, it chilled to the bone.
- 8:06Speaker 1: One of the most harrowing moments occurred when one of
- 8:09Speaker 1: the priests, Walter Halloran, had his nose broken by an
- 8:14Speaker 1: unforeseen force during one of the rituals. That is insane.
- 8:17Speaker 1: After numerous intense sessions, the clergy finally declared the exorcism
- 8:21Speaker 1: a success. Roland was freed from the malevolent force that
- 8:24Speaker 1: had taken a hold of him, and, according to those involved,
- 8:27Speaker 1: he went on to lead a normal, uneventful life. The
- 8:30Speaker 1: detailed accounts of these events were meticulously recorded by Father Bishop,
- 8:34Speaker 1: and later shared with William Peter Blatty, who transported him
- 8:38Speaker 1: into his novel, The Exorcist. Blatty's novel captured the imagination
- 8:42Speaker 1: of the public, and was soon turned into a blockbuster film,
- 8:46Speaker 1: that continues to haunt the dreams of viewers to this day.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Could you imagine if people were just bored back then?
- 8:53Speaker 1: And they just started doing crazy stuff like this?
- 8:54Speaker 2: They just started acting like demons?
- 8:56Speaker 1: The truth is, I 100% believe in demons, angels, and stuff.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I have been to a quasi-exorcist. I've seen it. I
- 9:06Speaker 1: feel like I would go into that room and I
- 9:08Speaker 1: could be able to feel if this person was just
- 9:10Speaker 1: severely mentally ill or putting on a show. But I've also...
- 9:14Speaker 1: seen horrifying things manifest but i think like for the
- 9:18Speaker 1: catholic priests have to get in there like is it
- 9:20Speaker 1: an ego thing and they're like let's just do this
- 9:22Speaker 1: and then people will think.
- 9:23Speaker 2: We're you know what i mean yeah like what's going
- 9:25Speaker 2: through the priest's head as well and are they just
- 9:27Speaker 2: performing and that's another thought i had earlier like how
- 9:30Speaker 2: deeply how deep does a priest beliefs have to be
- 9:34Speaker 2: and how much do they have to like study not
- 9:36Speaker 2: just god but like Demons and angels and stuff like
- 9:40Speaker 2: that to really be somebody that would feel comfortable and
- 9:42Speaker 2: want to perform an exorcist. I feel confident doing it. Amen.
- 9:46Speaker 2: It's just, it's crazy. It's kind of mind boggling. The
- 9:49Speaker 2: things that have came up through the generations.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Number two, we have George Luckins. So that isn't an
- 9:56Speaker 1: isolated incident. And the story of George Luckins also adds
- 9:59Speaker 1: to the mix. On May 31st, 1778, the Reverend Joseph Easterbrock,
- 10:04Speaker 1: victor of the now deserted Temple Church in Bristol, England,
- 10:07Speaker 1: found himself drawn to what would become the most extraordinary
- 10:11Speaker 1: and chilling cases of his career. This bizarre journey began
- 10:15Speaker 1: with Sarah Baber, a parishioner who encountered a distressed man
- 10:19Speaker 1: in Yatten, a town she had recently visited. The man,
- 10:23Speaker 1: a former tailor in his 40s named George Luckins, was
- 10:26Speaker 1: suffering from an inexplicable fit that captivated and horrified any onlooker.
- 10:32Speaker 1: According to Ms. Babber, during these episodes, Luckins would sing
- 10:36Speaker 1: and scream in an array of sounds, some barely human.
- 10:40Speaker 1: He cursed vehemently and claimed that no doctor could alleviate
- 10:43Speaker 1: his sufferings.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Ms.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Baber, familiar with Luckins and his formerly unremarkable life, was
- 10:49Speaker 1: stunned by this transformation. The local community, too, was at
- 10:52Speaker 1: a loss. Medical experts were baffled, and the helpless Luckins,
- 10:56Speaker 1: bewildered by his own condition, believed his affliction began after
- 11:00Speaker 1: a so-called divine slap during a mummer's play, an incident
- 11:05Speaker 1: some speculated might be linked to intoxication. So that's interesting. Like,
- 11:10Speaker 1: it's people, there's so many cases of people who did
- 11:13Speaker 1: way too much LSD. or did way too much mushrooms
- 11:16Speaker 1: and they're changed forever mentally.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Yep this is in the 1700s though.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Right yeah it could be the weed again yeah i
- 11:23Speaker 1: mean it.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Could be the weed again like ergot yeah like hey
- 11:27Speaker 2: also like it's good it's interesting because i think we
- 11:29Speaker 2: can tell with some people like if somebody really knows
- 11:32Speaker 2: the person like you know me yep if i started
- 11:35Speaker 2: acting like that you would know it's not an act
- 11:37Speaker 2: because i'm so vanilla and not like theater that i
- 11:42Speaker 2: couldn't even act like that for the long term it
- 11:45Speaker 2: would just drain so much energy.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Out of me it's just not you couldn't you literally
- 11:49Speaker 1: couldn't be that person but say if like one of
- 11:51Speaker 1: my old friends did it i would be like this
- 11:52Speaker 1: is a show yeah the fits were not just medical
- 11:56Speaker 1: anomalies they were theatrical displays of barking twitching and demonic
- 12:00Speaker 1: declarations he was possessed by seven demons.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Luck i couldn't even do that long enough No. I
- 12:06Speaker 2: would just start bursting out laughing.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Where's your Oscar? Luckins himself insisted that only the collective
- 12:12Speaker 1: effort of seven clergymen could exercise these spirits. Thus, driven
- 12:16Speaker 1: by a mix of concern and curiosity, Mrs. Babbers sought
- 12:20Speaker 1: the help of Reverend Easterbrook. Easterbrook arranged for Luckins to
- 12:24Speaker 1: be brought to Bristol for an examination. The spectacle that
- 12:28Speaker 1: unfolded wasn't astonishing as it was terrifying. Clerics who witnessed
- 12:32Speaker 1: Lutkins were struck by the horrific sounds and convulsions he exhibited,
- 12:36Speaker 1: convinced that they were dealing with a genuine case of
- 12:38Speaker 1: demonic possession rather than mere insanity. Well, I guess we
- 12:42Speaker 1: got seven men in a room. They're going to be
- 12:43Speaker 1: able to tell what's going on here. So this is interesting.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Easterbrook sought clerical reinforcements for an exorcism. a task complicated
- 12:51Speaker 1: by the skepticism of many of his peers. Despite intentions
- 12:55Speaker 1: for discretion, news of Lutkin's condition leaked to the public
- 12:58Speaker 1: through a letter to the Bristol Gazette. Dubbed the Yatten Demoniak,
- 13:03Speaker 1: Lutkin's case quickly became a sensation, turning what was meant
- 13:06Speaker 1: to be a private exorcism into a public spectacle. Crowds gathered,
- 13:11Speaker 1: eavesdropping on the dramatic scenes unfolding inside the vestry room
- 13:15Speaker 1: of the Temple Church. Scenes so sensational that they were
- 13:18Speaker 1: soon sensationalized in the street papers, akin to an 18th
- 13:23Speaker 1: century viral post. To counteract wild rumors, Easterbrook and his
- 13:27Speaker 1: colleagues published an official account of the exorcism. According to
- 13:32Speaker 1: the report, Lutkin's agitations shifted dramatically during the ritual. His
- 13:36Speaker 1: body convulsed, his voice morphed into a deep, ominous tone,
- 13:41Speaker 1: accusing and mocking the clerics. Despite the grotesque blasphemies and threats,
- 13:46Speaker 1: the clerics persisted, and ultimately, Luckins cried out, Blessed Jesus!
- 13:52Speaker 1: The seizures ceased, and he thanked the clerics, insisting that
- 13:55Speaker 1: he was cured, a claim that was substantiated by reciting
- 13:58Speaker 1: the Lord's Prayer flawlessly. However, this resolution did not silence skeptics.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Following the publication of the story, some who knew Luckins
- 14:08Speaker 1: suggested the entire episode was a hoax. There's exactly what
- 14:11Speaker 1: you said there. People knew him and said this was
- 14:13Speaker 1: probably fake. exacerbated by his skills in ventriloquism.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Ha! Yeah, right?
- 14:18Speaker 1: Yeah, and his propensity for hypochondria. The debate over the
- 14:23Speaker 1: nature of Luckin's condition, whether supernatural or medical, genuine or fraudulent,
- 14:28Speaker 1: spurred a national discussion. Clerics and physicians debated his case,
- 14:33Speaker 1: with some attributing his symptoms to epilepsy or other disorders
- 14:37Speaker 1: rather than demonic possession. Okay, so here's one that I'm
- 14:40Speaker 1: not going to believe that. Cause this is one where
- 14:42Speaker 1: people are literally saying this suit is a ventriloquist. He's weird.
- 14:45Speaker 1: He's crazy. If he's a ventriloquist, he's a performer. That's
- 14:48Speaker 1: going to get him more time on stage. You can
- 14:49Speaker 1: tell people he was possessed.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Something else interesting here is this could still be
- 14:56Speaker 2: some kind of demonic possession or like mental illness in
- 15:00Speaker 2: a different way. Like how we talk sometimes, how it
- 15:03Speaker 2: can run through family lineages. Like he has to be
- 15:06Speaker 2: a little disturbed to do this and pull this off
- 15:09Speaker 2: and feel okay. Like, causing this much trauma just for
- 15:12Speaker 2: his personal gain. So in itself, there's like a possession
- 15:17Speaker 2: behind the fake possession.
- 15:18Speaker 1: You know, I think what happens here, Adam, the message
- 15:20Speaker 1: to say is eventually that family inner trauma just builds
- 15:23Speaker 1: up and someone needs an exorcism.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Yep.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Stung by accusations of gullibility and deceit, Easterbrook later penned a.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Tree ties?
- 15:34Speaker 1: Tree ties?
- 15:34Speaker 2: I don't know what that word is.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Penned a letter. in 1788, defending the exorcism and attempting
- 15:42Speaker 1: to clear both his and Luckin's names. Yet, the cloud
- 15:46Speaker 1: of controversy never fully lifted, and Luckin's himself, after a
- 15:50Speaker 1: moment of fame, faded into obscurity. He lived out his
- 15:55Speaker 1: days in Yatten, struggling with poverty and chronic illness until
- 15:59Speaker 1: his death in 1805, as reported by the Bristol Mirror. Eh, alright.
- 16:05Speaker 3: It's just.
- 16:06Speaker 2: That's another form of mental illness in itself.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I'm mentally ill, man.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Right?
- 16:11Speaker 2: When we talk about angels and demons, we're not saying
- 16:14Speaker 2: they're specifically angels and demons. We're talking, we're giving the
- 16:18Speaker 2: thing in that realm that we don't understand a label
- 16:22Speaker 2: that people understand. Yeah. So we're not sitting here saying,
- 16:25Speaker 2: these are angels and demons and it's all Christian, you know,
- 16:29Speaker 2: theology explained like that. It just could be anything and
- 16:32Speaker 2: this is how we're explaining it.
- 16:33Speaker 3: Yep.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Oh my God. What is this name? Gottelibendittes?
- 16:38Speaker 2: Gottelibendittes.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Number three. Gottelibendittes.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Tittes?
- 16:43Speaker 1: Dittes?
- 16:43Speaker 2: I like your tittes. Sorry, Gottelibend.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Similarly, in the quiet German town of the 1840s, the
- 16:49Speaker 1: tale of.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Gottliebendritus unfolded.
- 16:54Speaker 2: I'm sure there's a German way to say that. Oh, yeah.
- 16:56Speaker 1: We're just murdering this.
- 16:57Speaker 2: I'm going to butcher.
- 16:58Speaker 1: We are murdering. We're demonic on this one.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:00Speaker 1: A story so harrowing it seems to leap from the
- 17:03Speaker 1: pages of a Gothic novel. Let's call her Gotti. We're
- 17:05Speaker 1: going to call her Gotti. Gotti, along with her siblings,
- 17:08Speaker 1: moved into a small, eerie apartment following the death of
- 17:12Speaker 1: their parents.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Aw.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Little did they know that their new home would soon
- 17:15Speaker 1: become the stage for a chilling spectacle of supernatural disturbances
- 17:19Speaker 1: and demonic possession. From the very first day in their
- 17:22Speaker 1: new residence, odd occurrences began to plague the Dittus family.
- 17:27Speaker 1: It all started with Gaudi, known in her community as
- 17:30Speaker 1: a devoutly poised girl, experiencing a violent fit while praying
- 17:35Speaker 1: at her dining table. Okay, so right now we got
- 17:37Speaker 1: a kid who's full of grief, okay? Grief manifests in
- 17:41Speaker 1: wild ways. Could it be demonic?
- 17:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Could this just be grief?
- 17:44Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 17:44Speaker 1: This event marks the beginning of a series of inexplicable
- 17:47Speaker 1: illnesses and paranormal activities that that would torment her for years.
- 17:51Speaker 1: The house itself seemed to protest their presence, with incessant creaks, bangs,
- 17:57Speaker 1: echoing through the rooms of all hours, as if the
- 17:59Speaker 1: building itself seemed possessed. As the disturbances grew, the family's
- 18:03Speaker 1: plight worsened, slipping from what was known as paranormal terms
- 18:07Speaker 1: as the infestation stage, to oppression. Then, the once vibrant
- 18:11Speaker 1: and healthy Gaudi was now frequently ill, her concision mystifying
- 18:15Speaker 1: and unrelenting. Desperate for help, They turned to John and
- 18:19Speaker 1: Christoph Blumhart, a local Lutheran pastor with a reputation for
- 18:24Speaker 1: his stirring sermons with strong faith. Blumhart initially met with
- 18:28Speaker 1: Gotti when she was hospitalized for severe facial infection. During
- 18:34Speaker 1: his visit, he noticed her peculiar reactions, avoiding eye contact
- 18:37Speaker 1: and reflexively unfolding her hands whenever he began to pray.
- 18:41Speaker 1: These unsettling signs led Blumhart to keep his distance after
- 18:45Speaker 1: initially deciding he could not help her. However, as the
- 18:48Speaker 1: hauntings in their home intensified, Gotti's siblings sought him out
- 18:52Speaker 1: once again, desperate for intervention. The manifestations at the Ditta's
- 18:57Speaker 1: home had become terrifyingly vivid. Glowing orbs darted around Gotti's
- 19:02Speaker 1: room at night, disembodied voices filled the air, and an
- 19:05Speaker 1: apparition of a deceased village woman cradling a dead child appeared.
- 19:10Speaker 1: appeared repeatedly to Gotti, whispering chilling messages. The spectral visitor,
- 19:15Speaker 1: Gotti claimed, was an evil presence stirring fears and warnings
- 19:19Speaker 1: that left the family sleepless and scared. Blumhart, moved by
- 19:24Speaker 1: the family's plight and convinced of the malignant forces at work,
- 19:28Speaker 1: returned to confront the growing darkness. Shortly thereafter, strange artifacts
- 19:33Speaker 1: were discovered hidden behind the stove. Salt, chalk, bones, coins
- 19:38Speaker 1: wrapped in soot-covered paper, suggesting sinister rituals had been performed there.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Blumhart burned these items in hope of cleansing the home,
- 19:48Speaker 1: but the paranormal activity only escalated. I don't believe in
- 19:52Speaker 1: burning spooky things.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Don't.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Salt Grave. Salt Grave.
- 19:55Speaker 2: That's a ritual in itself.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Salt Grave.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Yep.
- 19:58Speaker 1: The situation reached a critical point when loud, inexplicable noises
- 20:02Speaker 1: pervaded the house day and night. The footsteps and banging
- 20:06Speaker 1: that seemed to target Gotti during an exhaustive investigation. More
- 20:10Speaker 1: unsettling items were unearthed behind the floorboards. No concrete source
- 20:16Speaker 1: of the disturbances would ever be found.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Could you imagine buying a house and moving in? And
- 20:21Speaker 2: you just don't know for years... That there's, like, ritualistic things, like,
- 20:26Speaker 2: buried all in your house and around your property.
- 20:29Speaker 1: We found my name upstairs.
- 20:29Speaker 2: And, like, crazy shit went on there. Yeah, your name
- 20:31Speaker 2: was upstairs.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Kids did live here. I think there was just a
- 20:33Speaker 1: kid with my name.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it was in the treehouse, too. Was it? Yeah,
- 20:36Speaker 2: wasn't it? Oh. Celine, right?
- 20:38Speaker 1: That one was Celine. This one was Selena.
- 20:40Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 20:40Speaker 1: That one was, like, C-E-L-E-N-E. This one's C-E-L-E-N-A. So it's, like,
- 20:44Speaker 1: not my actual name, but really close.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Someone was already here. That was your name. Maybe there
- 20:48Speaker 2: were rituals.
- 20:49Speaker 1: How cool would that have been to hang out there
- 20:50Speaker 1: as a kid?
- 20:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Yeah, we are in a barn, if you're wondering. Tragedy
- 20:55Speaker 1: struck one Sunday after church when Gotti was found unconscious
- 20:59Speaker 1: in her bed, her body unnaturally red as if burned
- 21:03Speaker 1: from within. Upon awakening, she recounted a terrifying encounter with
- 21:07Speaker 1: the ghostly woman, claiming that the spirit's malevolence overwhelmed her
- 21:11Speaker 1: into unconsciousness. Determined to rid the family of this curse,
- 21:14Speaker 1: Blumhart moved them to a new house, hoping a change
- 21:18Speaker 1: in environment would dispel the dark forces. However, The evil
- 21:22Speaker 1: followed them, and Gotti's condition got worse. She began experiencing
- 21:27Speaker 1: violent convulsions and trance-like states, her body contorting in agony
- 21:31Speaker 1: as she spoke of demonic visions. Blumhart's resolve hardened in
- 21:35Speaker 1: the face of such relentless evil. He stayed by Gotti's side,
- 21:40Speaker 1: praying as she battled through her possession. Over time, she
- 21:44Speaker 1: exhibited signs of multiple demonic entities within her. Led by
- 21:48Speaker 1: the spirit of the woman that she kept seeing, a murderer,
- 21:51Speaker 1: and practitioner of dark magic, condemned to a tormented afterlife.
- 21:55Speaker 1: The climax of this nightmare came as Gaudi began manifesting
- 21:58Speaker 1: physical signs of torment, vomiting bizarre objects like nails, shoe buckles,
- 22:04Speaker 1: and even animals. Her siblings, too, began to show signs
- 22:07Speaker 1: of possession, adding to the chaos and fear that gripped
- 22:11Speaker 1: the family, throwing up nails and animals.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Bro.
- 22:14Speaker 1: And shoe buckles.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Could you just imagine you're eating all that stuff? The
- 22:19Speaker 2: vomiting is one thing, but you were eating these things.
- 22:21Speaker 1: There's a weird mental condition that makes you eat weird stuff.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I remember learning about that years ago.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Well, what's that show that used to be on TV?
- 22:26Speaker 2: There was like on A & E, My Strange Addiction.
- 22:30Speaker 1: My Strange Addiction.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Yes. I'm sure that was happening there. People were eating
- 22:34Speaker 2: weird things.
- 22:36Speaker 1: After years of relentless spiritual warfare, Blumhart's efforts finally bore fruit. Though,
- 22:41Speaker 1: through continuous prayer and unwavering faith, He was able to
- 22:45Speaker 1: free Gaudi and her siblings from the crutches of the demonic.
- 22:49Speaker 1: The family, once tormented by unseen forces, found peace at last.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Their lives reclaimed from the shadows that had enveloped them.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Gaudi's ordeal was later traced back to her childhood, to
- 23:00Speaker 1: a sinister pledge she made with her cousin that bound
- 23:04Speaker 1: her to an eternal curse. I believe it.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Kids need to be so careful.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Dude, I have, and I have talked about this in
- 23:10Speaker 1: the beginning. If you guys watch my Salem series, I
- 23:12Speaker 1: made a pact with something really dark when I was
- 23:14Speaker 1: a kid. And it's actually come to play in our
- 23:16Speaker 1: life recently, which I was like, is this a thing?
- 23:18Speaker 1: Could it still be a thing?
- 23:20Speaker 2: I doubt it, but who knows? Who knows, man? I
- 23:24Speaker 2: don't know. How do you know?
- 23:26Speaker 1: I've tried to free myself from that pact forever. But
- 23:29Speaker 1: this story, this is one I believe.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:31Speaker 1: It seems more believable than the other one. You know
- 23:33Speaker 1: what I mean?
- 23:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Next up, we have number four. We have Sierra Germana Sell.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Clara. Clara. Clara Germana Sell.
- 23:42Speaker 1: What did I call her? Sierra? Yeah. It looks like
- 23:44Speaker 1: an I. Okay, we're going to just call her Sierra.
- 23:47Speaker 1: I mean, Claire. Clara. We're not doing the rest of
- 23:50Speaker 1: her name because I can't do it. In the year 1906,
- 23:53Speaker 1: within the walls of St. Michael's Mission School in Natal,
- 23:57Speaker 1: South Africa, a disturbing confession shook the foundation of the community. Clara,
- 24:02Speaker 1: a devout student, revealed to Father Erasmus Horner that she
- 24:10Speaker 1: had made a pact with the devil. God damn it,
- 24:12Speaker 1: little girls!
- 24:13Speaker 2: Stop it! Stop this shit.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Man.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Kids are literally the cause of half our demonic.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I swear, I was a kid and I was talking
- 24:20Speaker 1: to the devil.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Through each board. You just don't take that shit serious, right?
- 24:22Speaker 1: No, because you're a kid and you're like, nothing can
- 24:24Speaker 1: hurt me.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Look it, I'm just in Earth and there's nothing beyond this.
- 24:28Speaker 2: I mean, a lot of people believe.
- 24:29Speaker 1: That, but not I. Born in 1890 and orphaned as
- 24:34Speaker 1: an infant, Clara had been raised under the care of
- 24:36Speaker 1: nuns at this very school. Her life woven deeply into
- 24:40Speaker 1: the fabric of the church from a tender age. Clara
- 24:43Speaker 1: had always been perceived as an ordinary girl by her
- 24:46Speaker 1: peers and the nuns. Her sudden confession was both shocking
- 24:50Speaker 1: and inexplicable. Initially, her claims were met with skepticism. It
- 24:54Speaker 1: wasn't long before her behavior began to alarm those around her.
- 24:58Speaker 1: On August 20th, her situation escalated dramatically in a display
- 25:02Speaker 1: that turned the blood of onlookers cold. Clara tore at
- 25:06Speaker 1: her clothes, growled inhumanly, and conversed with invisible entities. In
- 25:12Speaker 1: a desperate plea, she begged Sister, please call Father. I
- 25:16Speaker 1: must confess and tell everything. But quick, quick, or Satan
- 25:20Speaker 1: will kill me. He has me in his power. Nothing
- 25:23Speaker 1: is blessed with me. I have thrown away all the
- 25:26Speaker 1: medals you gave me. Her tormented words hinted at a
- 25:30Speaker 1: cruel betrayal by the devil, who had promised her days
- 25:33Speaker 1: of glory only to cast her into torment. As she
- 25:36Speaker 1: argued with the demon possessing her, the situation grew more dire.
- 25:40Speaker 1: According to one of the nuns' accounts, the sounds Clara
- 25:43Speaker 1: made were unlike any creature known to man or nature.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Described as a chorus of wild beasts, an orchestra of
- 25:50Speaker 1: the damned. The nuns observed with increasing horror as Clara
- 25:55Speaker 1: showed signs of extraordinary and unnatural abilities. She spoke in
- 26:00Speaker 1: languages she had never learned and displayed clairvoyant insights into
- 26:03Speaker 1: the personal lives of those around her. Her strength became
- 26:07Speaker 1: insane immediately. and she overpowered grown men with ease and
- 26:11Speaker 1: levitated five feet off the ground, defying gravity as her
- 26:15Speaker 1: community watched in stunned silence.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Okay, this one's cool. That is what we need for
- 26:22Speaker 2: some real proof.
- 26:24Speaker 1: We should turn this into a movie. We should turn
- 26:26Speaker 1: this into a movie. Guys, I don't think there's any
- 26:29Speaker 1: copyright on history. Clara's interactions with religious symbols were particularly violent.
- 26:36Speaker 1: She reacted with physical revulsion to holy water, crosses, and Bibles,
- 26:41Speaker 1: even when she could not see them. Reports circulated that
- 26:44Speaker 1: she transformed into a serpentine creature, slithering on the ground
- 26:48Speaker 1: and leaving bite marks on a nun who bore a
- 26:50Speaker 1: distinctive pattern of snake fangs. This is so over the top.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 26:54Speaker 1: And I love it.
- 26:55Speaker 2: This has got to be a story.
- 26:56Speaker 3: I love it!
- 26:57Speaker 2: What year was this one? 1890. Oh, totally. This is
- 27:01Speaker 2: like a novel from 1890.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I need to write this into a book. Despite the
- 27:04Speaker 1: intensity of her possession, Clara managed to receive Holy Communion
- 27:09Speaker 1: and confessed her sins, suggesting that the demonic forces within
- 27:12Speaker 1: her were battling against the rites of the church she
- 27:15Speaker 1: grew up in. The situation reached a critical juncture when
- 27:19Speaker 1: Father Horner, alongside Reverend Mancetti, was authorized by the church
- 27:24Speaker 1: to perform an exorcism. On September 11th, the ritual began
- 27:27Speaker 1: and continued into the night. marked by Clara's violent attempts
- 27:34Speaker 1: to harm priests, including an instance where she tried to
- 27:38Speaker 1: strangle one with his stole. The exorcism reached its peak
- 27:42Speaker 1: when the demon inside Clara promised to leave her body,
- 27:45Speaker 1: signaling its departure with her levitation in front of 170
- 27:48Speaker 1: witnesses in the chapel.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Whoa. Insane.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I feel like crazy things happened back when they couldn't
- 27:55Speaker 1: be recorded, because demons now are like, damn, they have
- 27:57Speaker 1: fucking cameras.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Right. This is all supposed to be a secret. Can't
- 27:59Speaker 2: give ourselves up, or it's just aliens messing with people.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Bro, you're making me stressed. After this harrowing display, Clara
- 28:05Speaker 1: was declared free from the devil's grasp. However, the peace
- 28:09Speaker 1: was short-lived. A year later, Clara confessed to another demonic pact,
- 28:15Speaker 1: leading to a second exorcism. Clara! Clara, Clara, Clara!
- 28:19Speaker 2: Man, she just can't chill.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I just said her name three times. Am I going
- 28:22Speaker 1: to summon her like Beetlejuice?
- 28:24Speaker 2: Clara. Clara. Clara.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Just something falls over and be fucking crazy. Clara confessed
- 28:30Speaker 1: to another demonic pact, leading to a second exorcism. This time,
- 28:35Speaker 1: after the demon was expelled, a foul odor permeated the air,
- 28:39Speaker 1: marking the end of spiritual disturbances surrounding her.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Or was it a fart?
- 28:44Speaker 1: The aftermath of these events left Kara deeply ashamed and
- 28:47Speaker 1: eager for oblivion regarding her past ordeals. She sought forgiveness
- 28:52Speaker 1: and dedicated her remaining years to humility. Her life thereafter
- 28:56Speaker 1: shrouded in mystery. After her death, Clara was cremated and
- 29:00Speaker 1: the location of her remains became yet another secret that
- 29:04Speaker 1: she took with her.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Clara is metal as f * * *.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Clara, we need to make a movie about you. Why
- 29:11Speaker 1: has this, like, if that's like a true story, why
- 29:12Speaker 1: has that not been a movie?
- 29:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Like, it takes me back to Immaculate. Kind of a vibe,
- 29:16Speaker 1: but not.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Yeah. Mmm.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Now we have number five, Anna Eklund. The enigmatic tale
- 29:22Speaker 1: of Anna Eklund is one draped in the dark veils
- 29:25Speaker 1: of secrecy and spiritual warfare, echoing the complexities of trials
- 29:29Speaker 1: of a life overshadowed by demonic possession. Her story, extensively
- 29:34Speaker 1: documented in the Annals of the Catholic Exorcism Rites, emerged
- 29:38Speaker 1: in 1935, offering a harrowing glimpse into one of the
- 29:42Speaker 1: church's most extreme spiritual interventions. Anna Eklund's early years in
- 29:47Speaker 1: Wisconsin are shrouded in mystery, with her life prior to
- 29:51Speaker 1: 1928 painted with only the faintest strokes. Born around 1882,
- 29:53Speaker 1: Anna was a devout Catholic. from a young age. Despite
- 30:00Speaker 1: the turbulent and somewhat sinister family environment that was shaped
- 30:03Speaker 1: by her father, Jacob, a man marred with his disdain
- 30:06Speaker 1: for the church and rumored incestuous advances toward Anna, poor thing,
- 30:12Speaker 1: cast a long shadow over her childhood. His companion, Mina,
- 30:16Speaker 1: allegedly a practitioner of witchcraft and possibly Anna's aunt by
- 30:20Speaker 1: a convoluted familial added further to the sinister aura that
- 30:25Speaker 1: enveloped Anna's early years. As Anna transitioned from childhood into
- 30:29Speaker 1: her teenage years, disturbing changes began to manifest. By the
- 30:33Speaker 1: age of 14, she started exhibiting aversions to religious symbols
- 30:37Speaker 1: and places. She once frequented with reverence, her behavior escalated
- 30:42Speaker 1: to expressing revolting and blasphemous thoughts. alarming those around her.
- 30:46Speaker 1: It was at this juncture that the father was first
- 30:49Speaker 1: called upon to perform an exorcism in 1908, marking the
- 30:53Speaker 1: beginning of Anna's long and tumultuous battle with forces believed
- 30:58Speaker 1: to be beyond this world. Despite the apparent successes of
- 31:02Speaker 1: this initial exorcism, peace was short-lived for Anna. Her father's
- 31:06Speaker 1: death did little to alleviate the spiritual disturbances that plagued
- 31:09Speaker 1: her as her symptoms intensified, lashing out at religious figures,
- 31:14Speaker 1: destroying sacred symbols And hearing tormenting inner voices, Anna sought
- 31:18Speaker 1: help from various physicians. This is sounding kind of like
- 31:20Speaker 1: schizophrenia to me, like unmedicated schizophrenia. Well, she grew up
- 31:24Speaker 1: in a terrible environment where her dad like hurt her.
- 31:26Speaker 1: So what are you going to expect? Anna sought help
- 31:29Speaker 1: from various physicians only to be deemed physically healthy. Thus,
- 31:33Speaker 1: her journey led her back to her spiritual sanctuaries of
- 31:35Speaker 1: the church. They were baffled. Counselors noted her sudden fluency
- 31:39Speaker 1: in languages she had never learned. and a peculiar awareness
- 31:43Speaker 1: of blessed objects. The spiritual crisis culminated in 1928, when
- 31:48Speaker 1: the church once again formally recognized Anna as being under
- 31:51Speaker 1: demonic influence. The father, now a seasoned exorcist, took charge
- 31:55Speaker 1: of her case for a second time, leading to one
- 31:57Speaker 1: of the most well-documented exorcisms in the history of the
- 32:01Speaker 1: Catholic Church. This intense spiritual ordeal was chronicled in the
- 32:05Speaker 1: pamphlet Begone Satan by Carl Vogel, intended as an educational
- 32:09Speaker 1: piece for seminars. Anna was covertly transported to a convent
- 32:13Speaker 1: in Erling, Iowa to avoid public spectacle and allow for
- 32:17Speaker 1: a focused exorcism away from prying eyes. The challenges began
- 32:21Speaker 1: immediately upon her arrival. Even the journey was fraught with
- 32:24Speaker 1: supernatural interference, such as mechanical failures. How? This is the
- 32:29Speaker 1: early 1900s.
- 32:30Speaker 3: I'm kidding.
- 32:31Speaker 1: The physical attacks by Anna were marked in their progress.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Once at the convent, Anna's presence was a profound disturbance.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Her reactions to blessed food and her violent outbursts during
- 32:41Speaker 1: the rituals unnerved the seasoned nuns assisting with the exorcism.
- 32:46Speaker 1: The rituals performed by the father were grueling, spanning several
- 32:49Speaker 1: days of intense prayer and confrontation with the demonic entities
- 32:53Speaker 1: that claimed to inhabit her. Anna's physical and verbal manifestations
- 32:57Speaker 1: during these sessions were terrifying. She spoke in multiple languages,
- 33:01Speaker 1: levitated and exhibited strength I'm gonna have to Google Beezlebub.
- 33:05Speaker 1: I've heard that before.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:06Speaker 1: You know what's really crazy? I was gonna call my
- 33:08Speaker 1: puppet guy Beezlebub.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Really?
- 33:27Speaker 1: Not going to do that.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Maybe not a good idea.
- 33:29Speaker 1: He has horns too. That's scary. The exorcism sessions were exhaustive,
- 33:33Speaker 1: requiring breaks to allow both Anna and those involved to
- 33:37Speaker 1: recover and prepare for further engagement. The battle for Anna's
- 33:41Speaker 1: soul was not just a series of rituals, but a
- 33:44Speaker 1: profound test of faith and endurance for all involved. It
- 33:47Speaker 1: concluded with a temporary cease of the demonic activity, giving
- 33:51Speaker 1: Anna brief periods of normalcy, where she could open her
- 33:54Speaker 1: eyes and interact without the overshadowing presence of the entities
- 33:58Speaker 1: that had tormented her.
- 34:00Speaker 2: It's hard to just say that this is mental illness
- 34:02Speaker 2: that I didn't understand back then.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Well, this is one thing, especially that I've learned working
- 34:06Speaker 1: on the cases that I had and doing the things
- 34:07Speaker 1: that I've done, is that when horrible things happen to
- 34:11Speaker 1: a person and your energy level is low, your doors
- 34:16Speaker 1: are open. Because those entities and those low-level beings are
- 34:20Speaker 1: attracted to people That don't have high vibrations.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Right. So your door may always be open. What was that?
- 34:27Speaker 2: What was that spooky stuff going on in the background there?
- 34:30Speaker 2: We're going to England.
- 34:31Speaker 1: We are.
- 34:32Speaker 2: I'm so excited. Right.
- 34:34Speaker 1: The home of tea.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Yep.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Next up, we have number six, Michael Taylor. Ooh, this
- 34:40Speaker 1: one's more modern. What I'm finding really interesting about all
- 34:42Speaker 1: of this is I have not heard of any of these.
- 34:46Speaker 2: No.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Until we started like the research thing for this. And
- 34:49Speaker 1: I think that's going to be interesting for people. And
- 34:50Speaker 1: that should be the title for this. Exorcisms you didn't
- 34:54Speaker 1: know about. In 1974, in the small town of Osset, Yorkshire,
- 34:58Speaker 1: Michael Taylor, a 31-year-old father of five and husband to
- 35:02Speaker 1: Christine Taylor, seemed to embody the quintessential family man. Neighbors
- 35:07Speaker 1: described him as mild-mannered and generally kind. Despite the occasional
- 35:11Speaker 1: depressive episodes, which his family attributed to a back injury
- 35:15Speaker 1: that hampered his ability to secure full-time employment, this ailment
- 35:19Speaker 1: not only affected his work life, but also cast a
- 35:22Speaker 1: shadow over his personal life, contributing to bouts of withdrawal
- 35:26Speaker 1: and isolation. Despite living within a few miles of multiple churches,
- 35:31Speaker 1: the Taylor family was not particularly devout, which stood out
- 35:35Speaker 1: in their highly religious community. A turning point came when
- 35:38Speaker 1: a friend concerned about Michael's depression attributed it to spiritual
- 35:42Speaker 1: causes and encouraged him to join a local prayer group
- 35:46Speaker 1: led by Marie Robinson. Her gentle, old-time religious approach initially
- 35:50Speaker 1: seemed to resonate with Michael, drawing him deeper into the
- 35:53Speaker 1: group's activities, including sessions where members were exercised of demons
- 35:58Speaker 1: through what they claimed was the power of God. Okay,
- 36:00Speaker 1: so we're getting a bunch, we're getting like a suburban
- 36:02Speaker 1: area together of people who are like, You have a demon!
- 36:04Speaker 1: You have a demon!
- 36:05Speaker 2: You have a demon!
- 36:06Speaker 1: That's what I'm getting so far. As Michael became increasingly involved,
- 36:09Speaker 1: he started attending private meetings with Marie.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Hmm. I'm kidding.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Where they would engage in continuous religious rituals believed to
- 36:18Speaker 1: ward off evil influences of the full moon. Okay. These
- 36:22Speaker 1: sessions lasting over eight hours at a time. This sounds
- 36:26Speaker 1: like a wrong thing. It really does.
- 36:28Speaker 2: What were they really doing? Yes.
- 36:30Speaker 1: This led to rumors within the prayer group that Michael
- 36:32Speaker 1: had developed romantic feelings for Marie, further complicating his already
- 36:36Speaker 1: strained home life. His absence at home and his changed
- 36:40Speaker 1: demeanor when around Marie did not go unnoticed by Christine,
- 36:44Speaker 1: who grew suspicious of the true nature of these meetings.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Her concerns reached a breaking point during one prayer session
- 36:52Speaker 1: when she publicly confronted Michael, triggering a violent outburst from him.
- 36:56Speaker 1: In the midst of the congregation, Michael attacked Marie both
- 36:59Speaker 1: verbally and physically. Damn, an altercation so severe that it
- 37:04Speaker 1: ended with the congregation restraining him. Marie later recounted the
- 37:09Speaker 1: terrifying change in Michael's demeanor, describing him as bestial and wild,
- 37:13Speaker 1: and she believed that it can only be countered by
- 37:16Speaker 1: invoking the name of Jesus.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Okay, honey, I'm sorry.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Yep.
- 37:21Speaker 2: But Jesus ain't going to save you here. This man
- 37:23Speaker 2: does not love you anymore.
- 37:25Speaker 1: He needs the mic. This is what's happening. I bet
- 37:27Speaker 1: he's going to be like, no, there's a demon in me,
- 37:28Speaker 1: and that's why I was like this.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Yep.
- 37:30Speaker 1: But no, you're a man. Michael later claimed to have
- 37:33Speaker 1: no memory of the incident, of course, and though he
- 37:36Speaker 1: received absolution from Marie at a subsequent meeting, the event
- 37:39Speaker 1: had already sown the seeds of doubt and concern among
- 37:42Speaker 1: the community. The local vicar, alarmed by Michael's behavior, declared
- 37:47Speaker 1: him to be suffering from demonic possession, saying that there
- 37:49Speaker 1: should be an exorcism. This led to a dramatic and
- 37:53Speaker 1: grueling eight-hour session at the St. Thomas Church in Cobber,
- 37:57Speaker 1: overseen by Father Peter Vincent and Reverend Raymond Smith. Along
- 38:01Speaker 1: with the prayer group, the exorcism was intense. Michael was restrained,
- 38:05Speaker 1: convulsed violently, spat, and was even soaked with holy water
- 38:09Speaker 1: and gagged with a crucifix. In an attempt to expel demons,
- 38:12Speaker 1: they shoved a crucifix down his throat.
- 38:14Speaker 2: This sounds like.
- 38:15Speaker 1: BDSM.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Yeah. You went there.
- 38:17Speaker 1: This sucks to God.
- 38:18Speaker 2: I was going there. We went there.
- 38:20Speaker 1: The exorcism, however, was not completed. Exhausted, the priests halted
- 38:24Speaker 1: the session, leaving three demons they identified as murder, madness,
- 38:29Speaker 1: and violence allegedly still within him. Despite the dire warning,
- 38:33Speaker 1: Michael and Christine were sent home to prepare for a
- 38:36Speaker 1: continuation of the exorcism.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Okay, so.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Let's take a break, go home, let's watch some Family Feud.
- 38:41Speaker 2: This is how this could have played out and this
- 38:44Speaker 2: would make a very good book or movie. Yeah. Michael
- 38:46Speaker 2: planned this all from the start.
- 38:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Michael knows exactly what's going on all the time.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Hey, don't give a book idea away.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Michael loves this whole situation.
- 38:55Speaker 3: Yes.
- 38:55Speaker 2: And this is his kink.
- 38:57Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
- 38:58Speaker 1: And in the end, oh, and it's like a sex party.
- 38:59Speaker 4: Okay.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:01Speaker 1: I feel like we're going to see some really badly
- 39:03Speaker 1: scripted porn after this. Somebody's watching it and they're going
- 39:05Speaker 1: to make bad scripted porn.
- 39:06Speaker 2: It's probably out there.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Tragically, just an hour and 45 minutes later, Michael was
- 39:12Speaker 1: found wandering the streets naked and covered in blood. What?
- 39:16Speaker 1: The horrific aftermath discovered in his home revealed a gruesome scene.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Christine had been brutally murdered.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Oh.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Movie's getting better.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Her eyes and tongue removed and her face mutilated. The
- 39:28Speaker 1: family dog was not spared easily.
- 39:30Speaker 2: I apologize because this is getting very real.
- 39:33Speaker 3: It is.
- 39:34Speaker 2: And this is a very sad story. Yep. Michael, if
- 39:37Speaker 2: you did plan this, you are extremely mentally ill.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Michael, rest in peace. Or is he dead? We're about
- 39:42Speaker 1: to find out.
- 39:42Speaker 2: We aren't there yet.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Arrested and hospitalized, Michael showed no remorse for uttering cryptic
- 39:46Speaker 1: words about the release and the destruction of evil. His
- 39:50Speaker 1: trial painted a bleak picture of a man driven to
- 39:52Speaker 1: the brink, not by supernatural forces, but by the intense
- 39:55Speaker 1: psychological pressure and possible mental breakdown exacerbated by the prayers
- 40:00Speaker 1: group practices. Described by the defense as a case of
- 40:04Speaker 1: neurotics feeling neurosis. Whoa, neurotics feeding neurosis to a neurotic. Yeah,
- 40:10Speaker 1: they were literally pumping. They were feeding the crazy in
- 40:13Speaker 1: him or the evil. Yeah, we don't know.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Michael was acquitted by reason of insanity and spent four
- 40:21Speaker 1: years in a psychiatric care before being released.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Ooh.
- 40:25Speaker 1: What?
- 40:26Speaker 2: That's insane.
- 40:27Speaker 3: He's out.
- 40:28Speaker 1: We need to get him on the show.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Right? This is a really crazy story. I apologize for
- 40:34Speaker 2: mocking this story a bit in the beginning because this
- 40:36Speaker 2: is very sad. Two people died, one being a dog,
- 40:39Speaker 2: which is still very, very sad for us.
- 40:41Speaker 1: But do you think we could talk to him maybe?
- 40:45Speaker 1: Try and find out?
- 40:46Speaker 2: I mean, it would be interesting.
- 40:47Speaker 1: How old would he be now? If he was, if
- 40:49Speaker 1: he was in his 30, if he was 31 and 74, how.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Old would he be? He'd be like 80.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Damn.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Okay. I have this like weird thing and I'm going
- 40:57Speaker 1: to be level with you guys. I'm gonna be super
- 40:58Speaker 1: honest about mental health here. When I feel anxiety coming
- 41:01Speaker 1: back and I've been really clear ever since I was
- 41:03Speaker 1: on an ozempic, my mental health has not been correct.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Changed the hormones in my brain. But when my mental
- 41:08Speaker 1: health gets really, really bad, I start to feel weird
- 41:12Speaker 1: and I feel like I see things or I hear
- 41:14Speaker 1: things that aren't there. And I found out that is
- 41:16Speaker 1: not schizophrenia at all. I don't have any touch of
- 41:18Speaker 1: that in me, but it is something that people with
- 41:19Speaker 1: like a lot of anxiety experience, but I could, I could,
- 41:23Speaker 1: I've been told that and I understand that, but I
- 41:24Speaker 1: could see people that deal with that running with it.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Do you know what I mean? And thinking that it
- 41:28Speaker 1: is demonic possession and feeding that bad mental health instead
- 41:32Speaker 1: of trying to get better. They, they fall into, you know,
- 41:34Speaker 1: the evil things that they see or hear.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Think about your beliefs too. Like what you believe, And
- 41:40Speaker 2: how smart you are about the world around you that
- 41:42Speaker 2: you could easily be duped into your own mind. Yeah.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Making you think that all these things are real.
- 41:47Speaker 1: But there's the same play on it. When I talk
- 41:49Speaker 1: about when my mental health isn't good and I see
- 41:50Speaker 1: and hear things, it's not like I'm... It's hard for
- 41:52Speaker 1: me because I'm also a medium. I'm a clairvoyant person.
- 41:55Speaker 1: I see and I hear spirit, which has been validated
- 41:57Speaker 1: 400 million times. But did it not used to cause
- 41:59Speaker 1: me so much more anxiety because I wasn't sure?
- 42:02Speaker 2: Oh, absolutely. Absolutely.
- 42:02Speaker 1: But when I have anxiety, it's different. I think I
- 42:05Speaker 1: hear something fall over that didn't. Or I see things
- 42:08Speaker 1: out of the corner of my eyes.
- 42:09Speaker 2: Right.
- 42:09Speaker 1: But for me, I don't know. Maybe that is more
- 42:11Speaker 1: malevolent vibe things.
- 42:14Speaker 2: Well, when you're anxious, like when you're anxious, your brain's
- 42:17Speaker 2: literally vibrating at a different level. So like, is anxiety
- 42:22Speaker 2: a form of your brain and your soul just being
- 42:25Speaker 2: more open to the other side? Yeah. Are those things real,
- 42:27Speaker 2: but you're just trying to pretend they're not and it's
- 42:29Speaker 2: the anxiety. You know what?
- 42:30Speaker 1: That is so true. And I think the best way
- 42:32Speaker 1: to end this episode today is to tell people something
- 42:35Speaker 1: that we have learned that I find really, really interesting.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Don't feed those things.
- 42:38Speaker 2: No.
- 42:39Speaker 1: And lie to yourself.
- 42:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:41Speaker 1: I have found the best way to help my mental
- 42:42Speaker 1: health is be like, I feel great and I am happy.
- 42:45Speaker 2: It sounds so stupid. It does. You'll be so silly
- 42:47Speaker 2: doing it. And we're not saying go do this. If
- 42:51Speaker 2: you're not doing this, what the heck's wrong? It's very
- 42:53Speaker 2: hard to do this if you're in a very depressed
- 42:56Speaker 2: and bad state. And it feels wrong and you want
- 42:58Speaker 2: to stay in that state. We understand that. It's a very,
- 43:01Speaker 2: very hard situation.
- 43:02Speaker 1: But weirdly.
- 43:03Speaker 2: But literally, just go outside. Put your bare feet in
- 43:06Speaker 2: the ground. Touch the grass and... There's actually healing properties
- 43:10Speaker 2: with that, too. We won't get into today, but everybody
- 43:11Speaker 2: has probably looked.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Into grounding a little bit.
- 43:14Speaker 2: But just smile. Thank the universe for things. Look around.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Be happy. It's going to feel so fake. But the
- 43:22Speaker 2: more you fake it, the more it can become.
- 43:23Speaker 1: When I have my bad anxiety, this man will rip
- 43:25Speaker 1: me out of bed. He will put me on the
- 43:27Speaker 1: grass and make me stare at the sun.
- 43:29Speaker 2: But the truth is I do that. Okay, not stare
- 43:30Speaker 2: at the sun. No, but in the vicinity. Off to
- 43:31Speaker 2: the side of it. Please do not go outside and
- 43:33Speaker 2: stare at the sun.
- 43:34Speaker 1: The interesting truth is when I just decide to smile,
- 43:37Speaker 1: make myself smile, like it tricks your brain. It lets
- 43:39Speaker 1: endorphins off in your brain. You're making your brain happy
- 43:42Speaker 1: by pretending it. Sometimes get delusional about it.
- 43:45Speaker 2: You have to be in the vibrations you want to
- 43:47Speaker 2: be in.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:47Speaker 2: And if you're in different ones, try your damnedest to
- 43:50Speaker 2: crack yourself out of it as hard as it is. Amen.
- 43:53Speaker 1: And with that, please don't get possessed. Don't talk to
- 43:56Speaker 1: the devil. It's just not worth it. But guys, until
- 43:58Speaker 1: next time, any closing words, my sir?
- 44:00Speaker 2: No, just blow those candles out so we can get
- 44:02Speaker 2: out of here.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Stay spooky, Boo Crew. From the quiet streets of small
- 44:06Speaker 1: towns to the bustling lanes of Metro... Metropolitan. Metropolitan. Neapolitan
- 44:14Speaker 1: ice cream.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Yum.
