- 0:00Eric: This podcast was created by fans or fans and is not affiliated with or sponsored by Hallmark or the Hallmark Channel.
- 0:07Eric: This is Eric This is.
- 0:16Eric: Sydney, and this is Hallmark Mysteries, and more And more and more and more and more.
- 0:25Eric: So you know what.
- 0:26Eric: You know what today is.
- 0:30Sydney: The day after Juneteenth.
- 0:33Eric: That it is.
- 0:33Eric: It's also the day where we're kind of like halfway through the year and we're going to recap all seven mysteries so far this year.
- 0:45Sydney: Oh my gosh.
- 0:47Eric: I can't believe it.
- 0:48Eric: From our least favorite to our favorite.
- 0:52Sydney: Yes.
- 0:53Eric: Now, one of the things I was thinking about was last year there were four right Four total.
- 1:00Eric: It was the Aurora Tea Garden.
- 1:03Eric: The final Aurora Tea Garden one, the Cut Color Murder, francesca And Nikki and Nora.
- 1:12Eric: Was there another one?
- 1:13Eric: Oh, there was a grilling or a curious caterer, so maybe there's five.
- 1:19Eric: Yeah.
- 1:20Sydney: The chocolate one.
- 1:21Eric: Yeah, dying for chocolate.
- 1:22Eric: So there were five And we've already had seven.
- 1:24Eric: We know we've got at least two more, No three more.
- 1:31Sydney: Three more.
- 1:32Eric: No, I don't know when.
- 1:33Eric: the new You know how Andrew announced that the new.
- 1:36Eric: Oh yes irrificators, but who knows when those are actually coming out.
- 1:39Eric: Yeah, the WGA strike.
- 1:41Eric: I do know that we know the writer of one of them.
- 1:46Sydney: You're going to share that.
- 1:49Eric: Well, I think people can guess.
- 1:51Eric: I'm not sure if we're allowed to say it.
- 1:54Sydney: Oh, okay.
- 1:57Eric: But there's a strike going on, so it doesn't matter, so nothing's getting written.
- 2:00Sydney: Yeah, Oh darn.
- 2:02Sydney: But at least you know, the Hannah Swinson is getting made, so that one was already written.
- 2:08Eric: One.
- 2:08Eric: Yeah, the one's getting made And there's actually there's.
- 2:11Eric: Oh no, that was it.
- 2:12Eric: There's just the one more.
- 2:13Eric: that's been guaranteed, right.
- 2:15Eric: So we know we'll have some sort of conclusion on that, But I guess we don't have to talk.
- 2:21Eric: We can talk about that more when we get to our list.
- 2:24Eric: Hey.
- 2:25Sydney: Yeah.
- 2:27Eric: So one of the things we always do I'm not sure if you're worse and we create a cocktail for the episode.
- 2:33Sydney: I do, I know it, but ever since I hurt my leg I've been on the meds that I can't have the cocktails with.
- 2:41Eric: So Well, what fun's that I'm paying attention, i don't need two more days.
- 2:47Eric: Now I've heard that the cocktails with the meds just makes it all that much more exciting.
- 2:57Sydney: Oh my gosh, i've heard that too.
- 2:58Sydney: I heard it increase as the effects or something.
- 3:01Sydney: By the way, we're not doctors and this is not true, so don't.
- 3:06Eric: Well, we haven't said what meds you're on.
- 3:07Eric: You could be on like Tylenol.
- 3:10Sydney: Yeah, well, i Yeah.
- 3:13Eric: Not even Tylenol PM, just Tylenol.
- 3:15Sydney: I know in lieu of since we can't, we can't have a cocktail tonight.
- 3:20Sydney: Like what should we do, eric?
- 3:23Eric: I think our listeners should go back figure out their mystery since we're reviewing all of them and pick their favorite mystery, and whatever that one is, that's your cocktail.
- 3:37Sydney: Yes, we have a lot of good cocktails out there too.
- 3:42Eric: We do, we do, we do, we do I think.
- 3:46Eric: I may actually go for a little something sweet and do that carrot cake The white Russian with the carrot cake to it.
- 3:54Eric: That was pretty delicious.
- 3:57Sydney: All right, i'm going to go for the jalapeno poppers from Mystery Lane.
- 4:01Sydney: That's not a cocktail.
- 4:04Sydney: I can have those.
- 4:05Eric: That's a good point.
- 4:06Eric: Now he got me thinking jalapeno poppers.
- 4:10Eric: I mean, i'm so sorry, i don't know if you have jalapeno poppers.
- 4:16Sydney: I don't, i don't know, if you did it last time and now you did it again, how?
- 4:20Eric: many poppers are just so darn good.
- 4:21Eric: Okay, jack in the box or Venus Nechel, if you need a quick fix everyone So.
- 4:28Sydney: I don't know if we have Venus Nechel's over here and Phoenix.
- 4:32Sydney: That is a travesty We do have Jack in the box, but I don't know.
- 4:40Eric: I don't know if you have a good idea.
- 4:41Eric: I don't know if you have a good idea, i don't know if you have a good idea, even though I was in LA and I knew there, and now I, i never, you have never been to one.
- 4:50Eric: That's terrible.
- 4:51Sydney: So While we completely digress.
- 4:57Eric: I do know that I'm a very big fan of Taco Bell, very big fan of Taco Bell, but I would.
- 5:03Eric: I was on LA, we'd have this group of friends and we'd all go And there was my nemesis because he just loved Del Taco, not a no.
- 5:15Eric: Where you stand, del Taco, but I hate Del Taco.
- 5:19Eric: Taco Bell so good.
- 5:20Eric: Del Taco has that like sauce They put on their tacos, which I don't know what it is.
- 5:24Eric: I don't like it.
- 5:25Eric: I always hated it.
- 5:27Eric: Mario, i have not forgiven you to this date.
- 5:30Eric: Del Taco is the worst.
- 5:33Sydney: I'm sorry.
- 5:34Sydney: So I am one of those weirdos who loves both Taco Bell and Del Taco, and I love both Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi.
- 5:47Eric: So when people are at the rest, they were like we only have.
- 5:49Sydney: Pepsi.
- 5:49Sydney: I'm like I don't care.
- 5:51Eric: All right, it's so flexible.
- 5:53Eric: Maybe that's the drugs talking.
- 5:54Eric: In two days you'll find out.
- 5:57Eric: No, i hate Diet Pepsi.
- 5:59Sydney: I only like Diet Coke.
- 6:01Eric: I was like I don't know, i don't know, i don't know if everyone knows what happened to you on your honeymoon with your, with your leg, a week to go right, yeah, midway through, i ate it on the sidewalk of Lundy town.
- 6:20Sydney: You know, prince Charles was looking out his window And he saw me.
- 6:23Sydney: I don't know if everyone knows what happened to you on your honeymoon With your, with your leg A week to go right, i don't know, i don't know.
- 6:32Sydney: I don't know if you guys know what happened to me on your honeymoon with your leg.
- 6:35Sydney: I don't know if you guys know what happened to me on your honeymoon.
- 6:40Sydney: When you saw me Just eat it Were you on cobblestone.
- 6:42Sydney: No, so there's like this fancy part of London called Mayfair And I was walking along and I think they have crummy streets or crummy sidewalks there So to make it fancy, they put these like white marble stone looking pavers in And it was like a very simple, simple, but really simple.
- 6:58Sydney: Like I was like this is a pretty decent size, so like it teeter tottered when I stepped on it, so one ankle went out and then my knee went straight down onto the stone And then I had the girl behind me who was walking along.
- 7:13Sydney: Stop and go.
- 7:15Sydney: Oh my God, are you okay?
- 7:15Sydney: And it was the first time where I was like you know, usually you're embarrassed, so you're.
- 7:21Sydney: Oh yeah, i'm fine, but this time I was.
- 7:23Sydney: I said no.
- 7:24Sydney: You knew right away Yeah, because usually what you try to get up right away the minute you fall or something you want to get right up.
- 7:33Sydney: I couldn't get up.
- 7:34Sydney: I had to give it what felt like five minutes, but it was really like one or two minutes.
- 7:42Sydney: I'm sitting there on the fancy ground.
- 7:45Eric: Wait.
- 7:45Eric: So this is literally help.
- 7:47Eric: I fall in and I can't get up.
- 7:50Sydney: Literally Give me my life alert because I needed it.
- 7:55Eric: The Sydney life alert.
- 7:56Sydney: And I hobbled and to, because everywhere has like steps up to their door.
- 8:03Sydney: So I just hobbled to the next place where there were steps and called an Uber and I took a big loss on the rest of that day And then I just the rest of the trip.
- 8:15Sydney: I was like a bandaging.
- 8:18Eric: Wait.
- 8:18Sydney: so you didn't go to a doctor, You just I didn't, because I don't know what the health care like, how I would pay for that over there.
- 8:25Sydney: I'm not really.
- 8:25Sydney: If I, if my leg was like broken, i definitely would have had to go to the doctor.
- 8:29Eric: Well, you showed me the pictures and it was not good.
- 8:34Sydney: It looked so gross.
- 8:35Sydney: I ended up because I was kind of concerned because there was so much fluid on the knee.
- 8:41Sydney: I ended up going to the urgent care when I got home But they said they took x-rays.
- 8:47Sydney: They said I just had a lot of joint effusion, which is basically to the trauma when your knee hits the ground or like if you're a basketball player and you fall during the game and your knee hits the ground, a sack of fluid forms around the joint to protect it And basically it was just bulbous.
- 9:14Sydney: It was terrible.
- 9:15Sydney: It was really unsightly.
- 9:17Eric: I felt bad for my husband but you know what I feel bad for you, but I think I prefer when you talk about jalapeno poppers than bulbous.
- 9:26Sydney: Ok, bulbous jalapeno poppers Bulbous.
- 9:30Eric: But I'm glad that you're getting better.
- 9:33Sydney: Thank you.
- 9:34Eric: Glad that you're almost off the meds so we can get you drinking again.
- 9:37Eric: But you were still I guess you weren't on the meds yet over there, because I'm saying you still were sharing some pictures of you enjoying.
- 9:44Sydney: I Yes vibrations.
- 9:47Sydney: They because when you're on your honeymoon, everywhere you go, people are like, hey, would you like some champagne?
- 9:53Sydney: And who am I to look?
- 9:54Sydney: a gift horse in the mouth.
- 9:56Eric: And you only knew how to say we.
- 9:57Eric: You didn't know how to say no in French.
- 10:00Sydney: Yeah, And you know, I just instead wouldn't take my anti-inflammatory, I would have champagne, which probably didn't help the situation, But you know.
- 10:14Eric: I heard that's what Marie Antoinette did.
- 10:17Sydney: OK, we'll go with that.
- 10:19Eric: Let them take.
- 10:21Eric: And champagne speaking of cake, let's get at it and talk some carrot cake.
- 10:27Eric: I don't know where that lands on yours, but let's get into our view.
- 10:31Eric: So we're gonna do.
- 10:32Eric: There were seven mysteries, as we mentioned.
- 10:34Eric: We will start and we'll just sort of do a little.
- 10:38Eric: This was our seventh and This is what we kind of like, but this is sort of why it ranked where it did.
- 10:46Eric: So we're not gonna do.
- 10:48Eric: If you want to hear a full Review of the movie, we're not doing that today.
- 10:53Eric: You can go listen to.
- 10:54Eric: You know the review.
- 10:55Eric: We've reviewed all the movies, so we're just gonna touch on it And just sort of say why it's in the position that's in.
- 11:02Eric: Yes, the work for you sending works for me.
- 11:07Eric: All right.
- 11:07Eric: With that being said, what is your number?
- 11:16Eric: seven.
- 11:18Sydney: My number seven big shocker here is the Jane mysteries inheritance lost.
- 11:24Sydney: You know this movie had wicked style, i mean amazing style, but the story, the mystery, basically every single other facet of it just didn't do it for me.
- 11:43Eric: I well, you had a pool scene, i guess it wasn't.
- 11:47Eric: It wasn't quite a summer villa pool scene that would have just made up for the rest of movie.
- 11:53Eric: Huh.
- 11:54Sydney: It wasn't Victor, i will say it was nice pool scene, but you can't save a movie with just a pool scene.
- 12:01Sydney: I'm sorry, so That's.
- 12:05Sydney: I Don't know What about you, eric?
- 12:08Sydney: Where are you at?
- 12:09Eric: Well, for me it was a little family history mysteries buried past the first one of the year, and I have to say, though, is we go into all this?
- 12:19Eric: There were none that I didn't like.
- 12:23Eric: Okay, so even though this was my seventh, i still liked it.
- 12:29Eric: I still want to see more.
- 12:30Eric: I want to see more of every single one of these, so there wasn't a single one on here.
- 12:34Eric: I'm like, oh, can't watch it, can't?
- 12:37Eric: You know I can't get past this.
- 12:39Eric: Please be one and done.
- 12:41Eric: I do want to see more.
- 12:42Eric: I do think they Laid out some an interesting thing.
- 12:47Eric: You know, no dead bodies, but it just, for me, wasn't quite there.
- 12:56Eric: Yet the actual we talked about, you know, the mystery Was the one, the only one I found actually kind of insulting because of the, the blind guy.
- 13:08Sydney: Yeah, yeah was one.
- 13:10Eric: You know, one stayed over Who they couldn't find and just the whole thing and just I just found it a little too bad.
- 13:17Eric: But I did like the main characters and I thought there's a lot of potential and It was also our first one reviewed, So that was kind of fun.
- 13:28Eric: But yeah, nostalgia only goes so far and I was like I mean, and tonic only goes so far, eric.
- 13:37Sydney: Oh my god, my double helix twist.
- 13:40Eric: I can.
- 13:40Eric: I can't drink gin, so there we go.
- 13:42Sydney: Oh, that's right Um.
- 13:45Eric: I will say I guess here's the question.
- 13:48Eric: So this is my number seven.
- 13:51Eric: I don't think they're gonna make another one.
- 13:53Eric: Though Do you think they'll make another, jane mystery?
- 13:59Sydney: Uh oh, that's that's where I'm different from you.
- 14:05Sydney: I don't want to see another one.
- 14:07Sydney: I mean, i just wasn't Feeling it.
- 14:08Sydney: There was something about it that just You know they they would.
- 14:17Sydney: They should have had more than intro there.
- 14:18Sydney: They there was no intro.
- 14:19Sydney: I couldn't get invested in these characters.
- 14:20Sydney: I loved the fashion.
- 14:22Sydney: I definitely hope that they make another.
- 14:24Sydney: Maybe they could incorporate that type of really cool style into another dancing detective.
- 14:32Sydney: But I I'm kind of like we'll let that one lay.
- 14:40Eric: But do you think they will?
- 14:41Sydney: Um, i'm gonna say no, it had pretty bad ratings, i know, yeah, you said that, so okay.
- 14:55Eric: So what is your six?
- 14:56Sydney: Well, It's family history mystery, blistery mysteries, and It's same, the same thing you said.
- 15:07Sydney: I think the acting was strong.
- 15:09Sydney: The story was not as interesting to me.
- 15:16Sydney: The mystery, yes, insulting There were, just it.
- 15:18Sydney: Just I don't know.
- 15:20Sydney: It did have a turquoise phone.
- 15:26Eric: It did have a turquoise phone.
- 15:28Sydney: I loved her style.
- 15:28Eric: I thought Niles Niles style Oh we're gonna Niles, we're going into Fraser now.
- 15:40Eric: Oh my gosh, i thought, his style was great.
- 15:43Sydney: It was so crazy.
- 15:43Sydney: But I think I mentioned in that in that review, about how I remember when I was a teenager and I first saw Nile in a show And I used to watch Canadian teenage dramas but it was a really cool thing, teenage dramas, but it was weird because they were always taking place in America.
- 16:07Sydney: So Now, par for the course with hallmark movies.
- 16:11Sydney: But I went back After talking to you about it and I watched the first episode.
- 16:19Sydney: It's called the best years And I watched the first episode and he's in it and who do you think also is in it.
- 16:29Eric: Um Heller Heinz.
- 16:32Sydney: No, the mom who was in that movie, the one that was like I can't find my disease.
- 16:38Eric: Oh, his mom, my husband.
- 16:40Sydney: Yeah, yes, she was in it.
- 16:43Sydney: She was, she played and it wasn't his mom in the show.
- 16:47Sydney: But like I'm like where are they?
- 16:49Sydney: It's all these people are the same people me.
- 16:52Sydney: I'm like rewatching the same thing.
- 16:54Sydney: They really are.
- 16:58Eric: When you get into those Canadian, got that little circle of Actors I was talking to, to our friend Madison Smith And I said, alright, you've done it again.
- 17:11Eric: You're another killer, you're not going to be another mystery.
- 17:13Eric: You need to get you as the lead so you can be repeating, and I, like, i have to figure out who I want to pair you with.
- 17:18Eric: And I said I know JC, because we love JCcom to Doton, yeah, and he's like oh my god, i love her.
- 17:26Eric: She's in my like class and so he like, actually like knows her outside of doing any Hallmark movies just from being in that Vancouver.
- 17:35Eric: You know acting circle, so So cool.
- 17:37Eric: Well, you're sex.
- 17:41Sydney: Yeah, i guess you can probably guess, mine is the Jane.
- 17:44Eric: Mysteries.
- 17:44Eric: So you and I just started doing it.
- 17:47Eric: So you know I just sort of flip flop and the reason why I had Jane Mysteries higher than Than family history mysteries is I just thought that And we did talk to her Paris, jefferson and Aunt Sadie I just really liked that character and I decided when I was trying to rank them that Of those two shows that Aunt Sadie character was just my favorite character on both those.
- 18:17Eric: So and like you said, there was the fashion in it.
- 18:22Eric: I still disappointed because we talked about like Stephen who's are is Now his rom-coms.
- 18:31Eric: He's like in that Prince one coming out this weekend which I hate royalty Real name is the only one I've liked.
- 18:39Eric: But yeah, not looking forward to it.
- 18:41Eric: But in Ruby herring I really liked a minute.
- 18:46Eric: I thought he did a great job and I think I think they just underutilized him and I think if they would have Given him a little bit more like action and really helped him be like a Much more of a supporter, mentor to Jane, as opposed to just popping in for 15 seconds and yeah things I'm in name dialogue and then hopping out.
- 19:13Eric: I think it would have been far better movie.
- 19:15Eric: But So I think the underlux and, like I said, the only reason why it's my six instead of my seventh is I just really like that's Aunt Sadie character.
- 19:26Eric: I thought she was fantastic and, as you said, the fashion was really good, so I went with that.
- 19:32Eric: Yeah, all right, we're now moving up to five.
- 19:37Eric: What is your fit?
- 19:40Sydney: My fifth is Hannah Swanson.
- 19:44Sydney: Carrot cake murder.
- 19:46Sydney: What with that cliffhanger, dramatic ending I think you know why this went, this went by the wayside for me.
- 19:56Sydney: We had quite the brawl.
- 19:58Sydney: So, yes, but I mean obviously it was great to see everyone back, loved seeing everyone, except you know I miss the sister.
- 20:08Sydney: But yeah, i mean, other than that, i felt like I didn't love the story, i didn't love the mystery and I thought the ending was outrageously ridiculous.
- 20:24Sydney: I mean, we're talking about a five year old murder, i mean, and nothing like went like how it would you know?
- 20:33Eric: with it with a with a seven year old, a seven year old killer.
- 20:37Sydney: Yeah, and the idea that he wouldn't have just murdered her and thrown her in the water at the end was that just that's not how it would have really gone and just was ludicrous the whole thing.
- 20:52Sydney: So I can't get over that and that's why it's not.
- 20:56Sydney: The acting was great, but it had to be pushed down because I just didn't care for the story and mystery.
- 21:03Eric: Okay.
- 21:04Sydney: What about you?
- 21:05Sydney: What's your?
- 21:05Eric: five.
- 21:06Eric: Even though we brawled about it, i've got Hannah Swinson mysteries, carrot cake, murder at number five, get out.
- 21:15Eric: Why I defended it.
- 21:17Eric: And it's funny because we've had some people reach out and say, oh, you won't say anything bad about Homer.
- 21:23Eric: You know you defended this movie.
- 21:25Eric: We didn't like it, blah, blah, blah.
- 21:26Eric: I thought myself I guess it kind of says where I ranked the whole Murder Sheep, a Can of Swenson series when I said I thought it was the best.
- 21:37Sydney: Yeah.
- 21:39Eric: Because I haven't really loved any of those.
- 21:41Eric: Now I will say, when we go back and do our in-depth review of the series and I watch them again, maybe I'll have a picture perfect where, after watching them again in succession, i'll appreciate them more.
- 21:55Eric: But they've just never really been one of my favorites, which is funny because I love baking, i love Epicurean, it's one of my favorite when you go over to the rom-coms, one of my favorite tropes.
- 22:07Eric: But no, like you said, the actual mystery and the whole story just wasn't strong.
- 22:15Eric: It was rough, but the acting and that's kind of what I was defending in one way was I thought the acting in it was spectacular.
- 22:25Eric: Alison and Cameron are both fantastic actors, so I thought that really good acting.
- 22:34Eric: And yes, where we did disagree is I thought Hannah was standing up for herself and saying you know you're not going to.
- 22:44Eric: You know steamroll me.
- 22:45Eric: You told me I could do this and you're not being supported, so I supported her.
- 22:48Eric: That's what we were all about.
- 22:50Eric: I get it.
- 22:51Eric: I still stand on my island with very few cohabitants.
- 22:57Eric: But yes, i agree with you, the overall mystery just wasn't the best mystery that could have been there And the funny thing is we had some people reach out and some of our comments say I don't get it.
- 23:11Eric: Why do they call it carrot cake, murder, what you know?
- 23:14Eric: where's the carrot cake?
- 23:17Sydney: It wasn't a big part, but it was not a big part.
- 23:20Eric: But if they actually would have stuck a little bit more to the actual books mystery like they could have, you know, changed it around, like they wouldn't have kept the whole thing and it was way too convoluted, but they could have actually stayed with that where the relative comes home for the family reunion and ends up dead, that would have been far more compelling than, like you said, somebody from 20 years ago ending up in a elevator shaft and, yeah, there's a snow connection.
- 23:56Sydney: Also, who's saying that you don't ever say anything bad about Hallmark movies?
- 24:01Sydney: because I don't know if they've seen your normal Hallmark page or they should, because you are tearing it up over there.
- 24:11Eric: Well, what's funny is the latest one, which was the wedding contract.
- 24:15Eric: I just can't bring myself to watching it, and I'll be honest, I did not watch it.
- 24:22Sydney: I can't do that.
- 24:23Eric: I can say a good one on it.
- 24:25Eric: It just, but I'll get to it at some point, especially now that we don't have any mysteries to watch for a while.
- 24:31Eric: Okay, number five or four.
- 24:35Eric: Excuse me, number four, the where number four sort of smack in the middle now, wasn't the worst, wasn't the best.
- 24:43Eric: It's right there in the middle, okay for me and I watched this.
- 24:48Sydney: I came a little late to the game on this.
- 24:50Sydney: It's dancing detective deadly tango.
- 24:53Sydney: That is my number four, i have to say.
- 24:58Sydney: So, um, yeah, i was a little goofy, i don't.
- 25:03Sydney: I don't know if the mystery was the best or the story was the best, but I thought that the location, of course, was amazingly beautiful.
- 25:14Sydney: And I don't know how I feel about Lacey as a detective.
- 25:20Sydney: It's not really the role that I'm used to seeing her in, so that's kind of growing on me like she's definitely not a Brooke Burns Oh, brooke Burns mentioned, but I didn't have to do it.
- 25:34Sydney: Yeah, but see, like someone like that definitely plays a detective really well.
- 25:39Sydney: Lacey is really good with sweet, you know, girly characters And I don't mean to typecast her, but seeing her in such a different role is a little bit kind of Wow, you know.
- 25:52Sydney: And then I'm so invested in her and Brennan Elliott and the crossword mysteries that I have to admit it had by the by the end of the movie her and will camp had grown on me a bit.
- 26:06Sydney: But it was tough at the beginning it was like I just didn't like seeing it as much.
- 26:13Sydney: He's great, love him, the acting was great.
- 26:16Sydney: I, i, he's, i would definitely want him to play pretend husband with me, for sure.
- 26:24Sydney: He's handsome, debonair, fancy sports car loved that.
- 26:29Sydney: They like did more like getting run off the road seemed like there were a lot more stunts, like with car chases and stuff.
- 26:37Sydney: But it was middle of the road for me because I just wasn't invested in the story really.
- 26:44Sydney: And you know, big company guy gets murdered because he jilted someone.
- 26:52Sydney: Yeah, that's typical.
- 26:54Sydney: Okay, what about you?
- 27:01Eric: Number four I had the dancing detective deadly dangle to stop it I think maybe this is why we do our podcast together.
- 27:09Eric: We kind of are similar and usually we usually do get along and like, say, other than that, hannah Swenson, final five minutes, we usually get a lot.
- 27:19Eric: But yes, so I agree with you dancing tango, i thought now, what do you?
- 27:24Eric: What do you think of?
- 27:26Eric: like, what's the?
- 27:28Eric: I'm going brain dead on it.
- 27:30Eric: Now they're, they're chocolate and in.
- 27:33Sydney: Yeah, like you like them together and that right, yeah.
- 27:37Sydney: But see, her character was different.
- 27:39Sydney: She was her normal, typical character.
- 27:41Sydney: She was not a detective.
- 27:43Eric: Christmas waltzy like.
- 27:44Eric: So you do like them together.
- 27:46Eric: You just yeah mystery, just like Brennan and her chemistry.
- 27:57Sydney: I get really hung up on the two of them together and, you know, because I like Brennan.
- 28:06Eric: I like him too And I agree, i think they're they're, they're great.
- 28:10Eric: But I did not have a single problem with them in it.
- 28:13Eric: I I didn't have a problem with Lacey being the detective.
- 28:19Eric: I thought it was kind of a little switch.
- 28:21Eric: I loved her little And I remember in this I thought they did have like the little banter they had throughout.
- 28:29Eric: It was great.
- 28:31Eric: I really enjoyed it.
- 28:33Eric: I found it a very fun to watch mystery.
- 28:36Eric: I didn't think the, like you said, the actual mystery was all that great and the whole like I guess they had to do it, like the whole notion of a dance contest for executives.
- 28:50Eric: I was trying to think of what company like seemed out of place would host such a thing.
- 28:55Eric: But doesn't matter, this is Hallmark Universe, right.
- 28:57Eric: But yeah, i just found a lot of fun.
- 29:00Eric: But I just thought at the end of the day, when I go above it further than my top three, they were just better mysteries.
- 29:10Eric: They had me going a little bit more and so it was perfectly fun to watch.
- 29:21Eric: I'd watch it again.
- 29:23Eric: I'd like seeing the two of them.
- 29:25Eric: Great humor.
- 29:26Eric: I chuckled many times.
- 29:28Eric: The fashion was really really great in it.
- 29:32Eric: That little pool scene where they dance in the water, wonderful.
- 29:41Eric: So I have all good things to say about it.
- 29:43Eric: You know, for the most part other than other ones were just better.
- 29:49Sydney: Yeah, so that's fair.
- 29:52Eric: Yeah, okay, we're in the top three now.
- 29:55Eric: so this is really where it's getting competitive and this is where you know these are ones we probably are going to be looking forward to seeing again and it's on and being a little bit excited.
- 30:07Eric: so what do you have for your number three?
- 30:11Sydney: It's the final countdown.
- 30:14Eric: Oh, Asia, huh.
- 30:16Sydney: Or no?
- 30:16Sydney: is that Europe?
- 30:17Sydney: I don't know.
- 30:18Eric: It's either Asia or Europe.
- 30:19Eric: It's a continent band.
- 30:21Eric: Where's my wife when you need her?
- 30:22Eric: She knows all the higher bands.
- 30:24Sydney: Well, you all, you know all the weird obscure bands, that's for sure.
- 30:29Eric: The final countdown.
- 30:31Sydney: I number three picked curious cater.
- 30:35Sydney: Grilling season Stop it, are you the same?
- 30:40Eric: I did.
- 30:41Sydney: Oh, my God.
- 30:42Eric: I know from here, there's no way we don't have the same from here on out, there's no way, i don't know, we might Well.
- 30:48Sydney: Yeah, that's probably true.
- 30:49Eric: Okay, curious caterer.
- 30:51Sydney: Well, you tell me why you picked it for three.
- 30:55Eric: I really thought they were getting their um the rhythm going.
- 31:02Eric: Um, like the first we talked about it in the review the first one sort of feeling each other, the characters out, and I thought in this one they really had just all the characters and the way they acted together.
- 31:14Eric: Um, you know, we talked about Marla and Goldie together.
- 31:19Eric: They were just hilarious throughout the entire movie.
- 31:22Eric: And then, um, is it Dr Tom right Tom Schultz?
- 31:28Eric: Yeah, so detective.
- 31:30Eric: Detective, not doctor.
- 31:32Eric: Yeah, detective Tom.
- 31:33Sydney: He was husband Yeah.
- 31:36Eric: And uh, the kisser, um he, uh, like I thought they were really getting going and um, you know.
- 31:45Eric: So I just thought it really got some good momentum in the ending, was kind of Shocker and it was pretty dramatic.
- 31:52Eric: Now you know the whole silly thing which I still have to get past.
- 31:56Eric: Uh, detective Tom really has got to up his game, because in both of the curious caters, goldie pretty much had to save his butt, which you know more power to you, girl power.
- 32:07Eric: Way to go, nikki.
- 32:08Eric: But um, you know, you know.
- 32:11Eric: So there, it wasn't the perfect movie by any means, but it was a really good mystery And it was kind of what I want in a hallmark mystery.
- 32:19Eric: So I had a lot of fun with it.
- 32:21Eric: So I did get um.
- 32:22Eric: I don't know if you saw in our comments today and it may have actually been over my hallmark um movie because in our, in our Instagram, we were like Hey, how many movies have Nikki and Andrew been in together?
- 32:34Eric: and someone left a comp, a little DM, and they were like you know, i just can't get into it.
- 32:42Eric: They have too much of a brother, sister vibe, do you find?
- 32:47Eric: do you think they have like?
- 32:50Sydney: I can definitely see why.
- 32:51Sydney: Do you think they have that?
- 32:53Eric: passion.
- 32:53Eric: Chemistry, or do you find them a little more comfort?
- 32:56Eric: chemistry.
- 32:58Sydney: I think they seem really comfortable with each other, um, which is great, because then it it comes off, it's good.
- 33:10Sydney: And it's bad because sometimes, like the, the passionate, like you know, don't know each other that well.
- 33:18Sydney: Still getting to know each other feeling, uh, is there if they don't know each other as well, but that they've been in like a zillion movies together and they're also really good friends off the set, i just.
- 33:32Sydney: But also this type of movie isn't really like that, you know it's, it's, they already know each other and they kid with each other.
- 33:42Sydney: So it does kind of give off that vibe, a bit of the brotherly sister vibe, anyways.
- 33:48Eric: But you had uh Travis and Amy getting to know each other, and yet they were not brother sister chemistry.
- 33:59Sydney: That was different.
- 34:00Eric: You didn't have that brother sister with your friend Brennan there either, and Lacey and Cures Yeah, because there's a there's a level of goofiness with Andrew.
- 34:14Sydney: Even though he's very handsome.
- 34:16Sydney: There's a level of goofiness with him that I just don't think those other actors really portray, and with Amy and Travis it's just like it's just so much more Now.
- 34:32Eric: So I was thinking about it and I thought it's just because Andrew and you can go back to just the uh, three wise men and a baby.
- 34:40Eric: For you know, proof of this, he is just like such the epitome of the all-American apple pie.
- 34:47Eric: I drink milk kind of guy, so like that's what I was thinking.
- 34:54Eric: Maybe it is just that he is such a just clean, cut guy next door, so much that, uh, that maybe that's where he's not a smolder, so to speak.
- 35:08Sydney: But these, these movies also are a lot more goofy than like mystery 101, mystery 101.
- 35:15Sydney: He didn't have an idiot sidekick detective who was trying to ask for camera footage from a fitting room He had.
- 35:23Sydney: he has a competent female detective.
- 35:27Eric: you know it's totally one time where she went into the whatever heard the noise, goes into and gets clobbered on the side of the head without calling for backup.
- 35:38Sydney: Okay, but that's more of a little different mistake than like you're not you're not wondering how did she get through police academy?
- 35:48Sydney: Like what is this?
- 35:49Sydney: Yeah?
- 35:52Eric: Yeah, so I don't know I found it interesting.
- 35:55Eric: I, i think they're great And I I mean he plays kind of a serious guy in here, though they do have the definitely the, the moments of humor.
- 36:06Sydney: Yeah.
- 36:06Eric: Through it.
- 36:07Eric: But he's, you know, he's the straight man in it where Goldie and Marla are the definitely the the high humor.
- 36:15Sydney: And yeah, like I said, Marla's one of my favorite characters and all the mysteries.
- 36:19Eric: I just love her so Okay.
- 36:22Eric: Um, I was going to say, do you think they'll make another one of that?
- 36:26Eric: Of course they will.
- 36:28Eric: They'll make two more.
- 36:28Eric: Oh, do you think they'll make another dancing detective?
- 36:33Sydney: Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 36:35Eric: It's going to another great location, i don't know how they'll keep that dancing part.
- 36:43Eric: Yeah, that was my thing, how you can keep those legs, like how many dancing competitions can there be?
- 36:48Eric: but I'm sure they can figure out.
- 36:50Eric: I mean, that one didn't make sense, you know really, but so they can create a, some other one that you know makes hallmark sense.
- 36:56Eric: You know what it had me thinking of, though, when he was talking about oh, we can go to Italy, we can go to here, we can go to there is the Dylan Neil mystery that he teased us with where he, what he's Lisbon, new York, and I forget what the other place was.
- 37:18Sydney: So he did that tease, like two months ago on Instagram, that he Oh yeah, was that when I did the travel pic, the you pick travel story, or no?
- 37:30Eric: I don't know, i just remember talking all those plots, then to it was yeah, So that's a serious but that's what had me thinking about, with him doing his thing, which is on hold because of the writer strike.
- 37:47Eric: So that's sad.
- 37:49Eric: Right or strike.
- 37:50Eric: got to end, come on studios.
- 37:54Sydney: Get it together.
- 37:56Eric: So I know what your number two is Go ahead and oh my gosh, it is Aurora tea garden, something Absolutely.
- 38:05Eric: Absolutely.
- 38:07Eric: Can you believe that I have an Aurora tea garden as my second favorite?
- 38:13Sydney: I can't believe it, eric, because that movie flew to the top for me too.
- 38:18Sydney: I don't know, i just really enjoyed the fresh perspective, the story I, the two leads, they were all.
- 38:28Sydney: They all did it for me.
- 38:30Sydney: There were some where I mean there were some parts of it that obviously we discussed were a little lacking a bit, but, like you know, for the most part it was, it was all all there that I wanted, and I definitely wanted to see more.
- 38:47Eric: Yep, i agree It was a very, i thought, well written, very well acted, everything laid out good.
- 38:55Eric: I just I loved the fact I didn't realize why I would so much, but I just loved Skyler's portrayal of Aurora as being a very logical, thoughtful, competent home sleuth who kept the place involved.
- 39:18Eric: I just really liked that element.
- 39:21Sydney: Yeah.
- 39:22Eric: And which is funny because you know, these are our cozy mysteries, that we, like we say, we go to our homework universe and just whatever you take.
- 39:30Eric: you know you can suspend reality, all we want.
- 39:33Eric: but I just I really thought it was good And plus I thought they were just like we said, fantastic, acting in it, perfect.
- 39:42Sydney: So you can tell he really, evan Roger, really studied that character.
- 39:47Sydney: I mean he, like I said, he doesn't look like Arthur, but he's.
- 39:52Sydney: you could have closed your eyes and you were like that's Arthur, i mean, and I appreciate that, but he took the time to really really do that.
- 40:01Sydney: It shows.
- 40:03Eric: So over in the Facebook community, there's a homework mystery Facebook group that I'm in And it's just what you'd expect in Facebook, far more.
- 40:15Eric: I don't want to say toxic, but just some opinions that probably shouldn't really be voiced out there, but whatever.
- 40:22Eric: But someone did mention I think they was over there like they thought it would be cool if Peter Benson would have been like his dad or something like a character, just to bring back a nod, you know, because a lot of people are complaining about Mary Lou.
- 40:39Eric: You know, going back in time and yet obviously trying to be 15 years younger, yet she's not, you know.
- 40:49Eric: So she wasn't necessarily age appropriate, but, you know, trying to keep the original characters in and you can't keep them in as you couldn't have Peter Benson be Arthur, right, because him being semi romantically involved with Scholar would just be creepy, so but I thought that was actually kind of a fun little.
- 41:10Eric: Could have been a fun little twist, whether it be like a cameo or something like that, where Arthur's dad like is that the diner, or something, and that could have been fun.
- 41:21Sydney: But I think Peter Benson direct stuff, so who's to say he's not going to direct the next one?
- 41:28Sydney: you know?
- 41:29Eric: that is a good point.
- 41:30Eric: Yeah, there's a good point.
- 41:32Eric: I didn't look and see if I know the writer was the same.
- 41:36Eric: I didn't look to see if the director was was the same, oh, the original or us.
- 41:43Eric: But I do know from what at least what I, how, what I took from Scholar in the interview there was a lot of the crew.
- 41:53Eric: Were the people who worked on the original, or so they all knew that.
- 41:58Eric: You know series inside and out.
- 42:01Sydney: I wonder if it was the same fashion designer or costume designer.
- 42:05Sydney: You know, because there was a very specific one Cameron used for that, So oh yeah, that's what Nicole taught us.
- 42:17Eric: Yeah, the The interesting thing too is, i just think, skyler's look and we're talking about the fashion, her hair she just looks sleuthery to me.
- 42:32Eric: So I thought, and, like we said, arthur was fantastic, so there, we go.
- 42:38Eric: Very good mystery.
- 42:40Eric: People who are just saying I won't watch it because I don't wanna see anything new from a Rory Teague art now and you want Candice.
- 42:46Eric: You know what you're really missing out in.
- 42:49Eric: All you're doing is hurting yourself by skipping out on this one.
- 42:53Eric: It is a very fun, good mystery.
- 42:58Sydney: Yeah, and I don't get that, because I'm an OG Rory Teague Garden stan and I still enjoyed those movies and I was so excited that they were bringing it back and I couldn't wait to watch it.
- 43:13Sydney: So you just gotta let it go.
- 43:17Eric: I think some people just don't understand what a prequel is.
- 43:19Eric: And the thing I keep throwing out there and there's probably, maybe not necessarily the most crossover is just how there's a lot of franchises James Bond, batman, star Trek, you know, you can go on and on where they've just had multiple actors who've come in and recreate the role, and they just keep rolling on and on and it's just.
- 43:44Eric: You know, it's what you do.
- 43:47Eric: I guess I'd rather have none than some which I don't under.
- 43:52Eric: I'm with you, i don't understand And you know, for people like me who weren't fans, it was a great way to become one.
- 43:59Eric: So Yes.
- 44:02Eric: I think I now know what your number one is.
- 44:06Sydney: And the jalapeno poppers are justified.
- 44:10Eric: And I have to say as much as I like to Rory Teague Garden it wasn't even close, I think.
- 44:18Eric: Nothing comes close.
- 44:20Eric: The cases of Mystery Lane was one of the best mysteries of all time.
- 44:29Eric: I think it was such a good mystery that Where is the next one?
- 44:36Eric: It's in a writer's strike.
- 44:43Sydney: Yeah, but I want Hallmark to say they're making another one.
- 44:47Eric: You know, i guess they could still say I mean, they said they're making the curious caterers.
- 44:50Eric: They could just say Hey, we're making it.
- 44:54Sydney: You know what it is.
- 44:55Eric: I think I think it's while they're trying to figure out that cut color murder and Nikki and Nora Next ones that they have to get those knocked out the way before I hope you're right, because they'd love to have Nicole on again to talk fashion.
- 45:13Sydney: I agree.
- 45:15Sydney: But yeah, this movie was just light years beyond anything else, and I loved Rory Teague.
- 45:24Eric: Garden.
- 45:24Eric: You know that's how good cases was.
- 45:27Eric: It was quirky, like you know that was the thing with like dancing detective.
- 45:31Eric: It was quirky and fun and goofy, and so was cases of Mystery Lane, but it was just Yeah the comedy.
- 45:40Eric: It just also had that story.
- 45:44Eric: Yeah that one's and so many different levels.
- 45:47Eric: There was the relationship story with Birdie and Alden.
- 45:49Eric: There was the Mystery.
- 45:50Eric: There was, you know, all the goofy characters in it.
- 45:56Eric: There was the Alden, you know, individually trying to figure out his, you know, pure pan syndrome.
- 46:04Eric: Whatever, there's so many layers that were in this story that, like we said, while the Mystery per se wasn't the you know, the greatest mystery on, you know, may not have been the best of the mystery of all of these, the story was just so, so good.
- 46:24Sydney: You know once again.
- 46:26Eric: Mystery 101 right there.
- 46:27Eric: Such a good story that the Mystery just has to be competent.
- 46:31Eric: And yeah, great movie.
- 46:33Eric: So and So great.
- 46:35Eric: I'll tell you what.
- 46:37Eric: Now we follow also Amy Garcia.
- 46:41Eric: She is a cutie.
- 46:43Eric: She is such a cutie I've gotten into Lucifer.
- 46:47Sydney: I think all of these are.
- 46:50Eric: I keep watching Lucifer Fantastic.
- 46:54Eric: I watched her in some other.
- 46:57Eric: There was like a Netflix Christmas movie which was not a good Christmas movie.
- 47:02Eric: It was not a good movie but she was just great in it, so it was.
- 47:07Eric: She's awesome And I definitely want to see her more.
- 47:11Eric: I think she should hopefully get into a romcom.
- 47:15Eric: Maybe get her into one of the Christmas movies.
- 47:18Eric: She's you just also on Instagram.
- 47:21Eric: Her posts are fun.
- 47:22Eric: She just seems like a very, very cool person.
- 47:25Sydney: Yeah, And we all.
- 47:27Sydney: I am all for it.
- 47:29Eric: Let's find somebody on this planet.
- 47:31Eric: Let's I know we have to, we have to let your leg heal, but let's tour the entire planet and try to find someone who doesn't like Paul Campbell.
- 47:40Eric: Oh my gosh, Can it?
- 47:43Eric: can it be done?
- 47:44Eric: Is there somebody on this planet who doesn't like Paul Campbell?
- 47:48Sydney: I don't think so.
- 47:50Eric: Let me look.
- 47:50Eric: It's like, yes, it's like, okay, paul Campbell, kimberly Sustad, completely universally liked, can't, just can't dislike those two.
- 48:01Eric: So Yeah, i can imagine now, as I've just sung, all the praises and like I say, love Amy Garcia, but can you imagine if they made cases with those with Kimberly and Paul, like that may have broken the, the?
- 48:20Sydney: internet.
- 48:20Eric: Internet yeah.
- 48:22Sydney: Yeah, i see that, but of course, now that I've seen Amy as a birdie, i don't know Like I can't 100%, 100%.
- 48:31Eric: I think she was the perfect cast for this.
- 48:33Eric: I'm not saying Kimberly would have been better, i'm just saying the hype and everything, how everyone just loves, you know, those two together.
- 48:41Eric: I can just watch my wedding every weekend to get my fix of the two of them.
- 48:45Eric: So Yeah.
- 48:46Sydney: But, Which is a great movie, by the way Can't sleep with family and friends, and be, by the way.
- 48:51Eric: Yes, so, but so yeah.
- 48:53Eric: All right, there we go.
- 48:54Eric: Essentially, i'm shocked that we were other than our flip flop of six and seven.
- 49:03Eric: We're exactly the same.
- 49:05Eric: I knew we were going to have the same number one.
- 49:07Eric: I just knew we would there, but I'm surprised that all the others were were the same as well.
- 49:16Sydney: So We have good taste.
- 49:19Eric: I guess so Good taste.
- 49:21Eric: I guess so.
- 49:25Sydney: All right?
- 49:25Eric: Well, i'd love to hear from all of our listeners.
- 49:30Eric: Go ahead and over to our Instagram and leave us some comments and let us know what your.
- 49:37Eric: you don't have to do all seven.
- 49:39Eric: You can rank all seven if you want, but go ahead and let us know what your favorite mystery has been so far this year.
- 49:48Sydney: Yeah, and if you're feeling really generous, we would love it if you would rate and review our podcast, because nothing brings us more joy than looking at your lovely reviews, especially if they're nice ones.
- 50:03Sydney: Thank you.
- 50:06Eric: Nothing on this planet There's more joy.
- 50:09Eric: So, and that's cocktail.
- 50:12Eric: free talk too.
- 50:14Sydney: Yeah Well, it's not painkiller free, but you know.
- 50:21Eric: One of the other things that's kind of fun is we created an emoji guess that homework movie by emoji game.
- 50:29Eric: that's available on our YouTube and our website So you can check that out.
- 50:35Eric: That's a fun little one.
- 50:36Eric: There's, i think, 21 if I'm not mistaken.
- 50:39Eric: See how many you can get there.
- 50:41Eric: It's a little tough.
- 50:41Eric: Little tough I have to admit Yeah, I didn't get them right in some instances.
- 50:48Eric: Do you know how many you got Well?
- 50:55Sydney: I'd say it was like 70%.
- 50:57Sydney: They're tough.
