Transcript
- 0:21All right, everybody, you're listening to Eagles postgame analysis here at the Philadelphia
- 0:24Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the
- 0:28world. That's right over ten and a half years strong. And the Philadelphia
- 0:31Eagles dropped their first game of the season up at MetLife Stadium in New York
- 0:36to the New York Jets by a score of twenty to fourteen. The Eagles
- 0:41could not score at all during the second half. They scored two touchdowns,
- 0:45one in the first quarter, one in the second quarter. This Jets team
- 0:49was resilient. They ended up taking the win. In fact, in fact,
- 0:54folks, it is the first time that the New York Jets have beat
- 0:58the Philadelphia e They had lost the previous twelve contest they won the thirteenth meeting.
- 1:04I guess congratulations, Jets fans. I'm feeling like shit right now.
- 1:10Anyway. I'm Jeff Warren and I'm here with my good buddy Josh Schuster from
- 1:14Philadelphia soccernow dot Com and Josh Man, what a crap game this was.
- 1:19Of course, when your team loses, and especially loses the way that they
- 1:23did, it's not the best feeling in the world. But this team really
- 1:27needs to rebound from this particular loss. But I'll say this too, I
- 1:33kind of had a feeling this could happen. Feel I had this feeling over
- 1:37the past couple games where the Eagles were leaving a lot out on the field,
- 1:42and we even talked about that the last time you were on the last
- 1:45postgame show that you were on leaving a lot out on the field and just
- 1:49not necessarily closing in or closing games, especially from a red zone perspective,
- 1:57and you know, we saw it bite them in the butt. I felt
- 1:59like this was actually coming and hopefully they just got it out of their systems
- 2:01and then they can be on a new path after this. I don't know,
- 2:06what are your thoughts here? To get us started off with some of
- 2:07the themes Josh, Yeah, I'm gonna quote my my six year old son.
- 2:15At one point in the third quarter, he just looked at me and
- 2:17said, Daddy, the Jets are coming. The Jets are making it close.
- 2:22And I'm like, yeah, yeah, I mean I have I have
- 2:28lots of feelings, and not many of them are positive. You and I
- 2:30were talking beforehand that the only positive is maybe we have a punter. So
- 2:35yeah, yeah, Yeah, that's right, that's what I got. The
- 2:39other thing is I am happy I don't live in North Jersey anymore. I
- 2:44don't have to deal with any New York fans, So I'm thankful about that.
- 2:47And would you believe me if I told you that Philadelphia Sports Twitter is
- 2:52burning to the ground as we speak. Oh, I believe it. I
- 2:54absolutely believe it. Gosh. It's I think when we look at this game,
- 3:01you know, when December rolls around, January rolls around, We're gonna
- 3:06look at this game as the injury game. We're gonna look at it as
- 3:09a defensive game from both the Eagles and Jets defenses just both played extraordinary they
- 3:17did, but it was at the end of the day the Eagles offense could
- 3:21not come through. But first and foremost, before we get into the injury
- 3:24aspect of this game, which I mean, it's a theme of this game
- 3:27for sure. Before we do, though, got to say and congratulate Jason
- 3:30Kelcey starting his one hundred and forty fifth game against this New York Jets team,
- 3:36unfortunately losing it, but he broke John Runyan's franchise record for most consecutive
- 3:42games played in an Eagles uniforms, So hats off to Jason Kelcey. He
- 3:46was probably very frustrated by that right side of the offensive line that looked like
- 3:51they were they couldn't play their way out of a wet paper bag at times,
- 3:53or that they were the wet paper bag they were. Zue Opeta and
- 3:58Jack Driscoll. Because again I'm gonna mention some injuries here, Lane Johnson going
- 4:02out that was huge, huge for this offense. Again, key injuries coming
- 4:09into the game. Darius Slay was out, Jalen Carter was out, Marlon
- 4:13Tuey Telopo was out, Milton Williams was even injured in the third quarter for
- 4:16a bit. Thankfully, he came back in and again Lane Johnson ended up
- 4:20limping off the field early in the first quarter. Jack Driscoll comes in for
- 4:25him. Now apparently Lane is gonna be dealing with an ankle issue. Who
- 4:29knows how long this is gonna persist. But then you had Reid Blankenship who
- 4:32was completely blindsided in the third quarter. He goes out with a rib injury.
- 4:36Eli Rick's cornerback, he was out. Another cornerback that was brought in
- 4:41a couple weeks ago. Bradley Roby for the slot position. He went out.
- 4:46My gosh, and on the Jets side, Sauce Gardner was not playing.
- 4:48DJ Reid was not playing. Their starting cornerbacks offensive line Joe Tipman,
- 4:54he was also injured. This was a this was the injury game and how
- 4:59the going to perform. And we saw how the Eagles backups performed in this
- 5:03game. They just really weren't able to get it done. Thank god Zach
- 5:06Wilson was the starting quarterback for the New York Jets, or they would have
- 5:11just that they could have potentially have had a field day. But the Eagles
- 5:14defense did end up, you know, coming through. They did end up
- 5:16coming through, I think because at the end of the day they didn't allow
- 5:20the Jets offense to score in the red zone. They didn't. They were
- 5:24zero and three. So I don't know, how do you view the injuries
- 5:28here, Josh, in terms of what it meant for this game, what
- 5:32it's gonna end up meaning for this team as well, because some of these
- 5:35injuries are going to be persistent over these next couple weeks. Probably. Yeah.
- 5:41So, Jeff, as we talked more and more, you'll find there's
- 5:45two things I'd never blame a loss on One is officiating, and we talked
- 5:49a lot about that last time I was on I will never blame loss on
- 5:54officiating. It's always on the players to overcome it. And the second is
- 5:58thing, I don't blame injuries. You know, the Eagles aren't the only
- 6:00team that suffered injuries today. Yep. And you know, I know Philadelphia
- 6:05Twitter was burning to the ground because they weren't running the football well, friends,
- 6:11you know, they weren't even averaging one yard per carry and both starting
- 6:15corners are out for the Jets. I get it. It's not a part
- 6:18of the game plan, nor should it be a part of the game plan.
- 6:21You have DeVante Smith and AJ Brown and Jalen Hurts, who's an MVP
- 6:26candidate. I'm sorry, There's no reason to run the ball forty times today.
- 6:31It would not be a good game plan. And obviously, if you
- 6:34stand by that, you don't know anything about the Jets. They are a
- 6:38stout defensive team against the run. It would have been foolish to try to
- 6:41do it. Yeah, they had the right game plan, it was not
- 6:44executed. But going back to the injuries, both sides had him. Both
- 6:47sides had players leaving during it. The Jets were the more resilient team.
- 6:51And I'm not I'm not gonna blame I'm not going to use injuries as a
- 6:56reason why the Eagles lost. That's not giving the Jets the credit that's due.
- 7:00They literally shut down the Eagles for an entire half. Yes, and
- 7:04really the Eagles didn't even really get close to scoring in the entire second half.
- 7:09It's inexcusable. That's a whole separate thing. But the Jets did their
- 7:13job, regardless of how many backups they had in they did their job.
- 7:16Absolutely also are missing Aaron Rodgers. If we want to compare injuries, I'm
- 7:21going to say that there's a larger gap between Aaron Rodgers and Zach Wilson than
- 7:26any other position that the Eagles lost today. So that's a fair point.
- 7:30That is a very very fair point because like the other theme of this game
- 7:34is well too. And you know, you look at the quarterbacks that were
- 7:39on the field today, Zach Wilson, you look at Jalen Hurts. My
- 7:44gosh, Jalen Hurts turned the ball over three times today. Three interceptions tied
- 7:48a career high. There were four total turnovers in this game by the Philadelphia
- 7:54Eagles. The fact that it was this close of a game with four turnovers
- 7:59to zero turnovers, twenty to fourteen was the score, folks. The fact
- 8:03that it was that close, given the fact that this Philadelphia Eagles team turned
- 8:07the ball over four times, is incredible and it goes to show what Josh
- 8:13was just saying, you know, the difference, you know, and the
- 8:16separation of who Aaron Rodgers is and Zach Wilson. If there was any semblance
- 8:22of a very competent and consistent quarterback play from the New York Jets, they
- 8:28would have ran all over this Philadelphia Eagles team for sure. I mean,
- 8:31first, that first turnover I believe it was when Jalen Hurts was charged with
- 8:35that interception in the second quarter, popped out of Dallas Goddard's grasp right after
- 8:41he caught it. To look, the defender made a good football play.
- 8:46It happens, Quinn Williams, he was lucky, happened to be there catch
- 8:48the ball and gave Jalen Hurts his fifth at that point, fifth interception of
- 8:54the season. He's got seven now total after this game. Then the swift
- 9:01fumble in the second quarter that turnover. You know, it certainly wasn't wasn't
- 9:07a great thing. The Eagles had not allowed any points off of turnovers in
- 9:11this season until the second quarter when the Jets scored a field goal right before
- 9:16halftime due to that swift fumble. So it was self inflicted wounds by this
- 9:20team, h and completely inexcusable. And again going back to what I said
- 9:26earlier, Josh, I really believe that this game was coming, whether it
- 9:31was going to be this week or potentially next week, this game was coming
- 9:35because this team has been playing some sloppy football, specifically from an offensive perspective,
- 9:41and it boggles my mind because of the talent that they do have on
- 9:43this team. Are you thinking the same thing. Yeah, And when we
- 9:46get into quarterback rades, I'll kind of break down the interceptions, But I
- 9:52agree completely on the first The first one. The first one I'm not going
- 9:54to put on hurts like that's not yeah, that's not fault. It wasn't
- 9:58even put in a bad spot like sometimes when you get those tip passes.
- 10:01I can look and go, well, the quarterback didn't put it in the
- 10:03right spot. He put it in the right spot. It just was a
- 10:07freak turnover. The defender made a good football play. Like I said,
- 10:11it happens. It's the NFL. They're supposed to make good football plays.
- 10:13Why they're paid money. Correct. Certainly back to a point that you made
- 10:18earlier, I think if the Jets even had an NFL level quarterback today,
- 10:24they would have built raced the Eagles. To be perfectly honest, Zach Wilson
- 10:26is not an NFL quarterback. I wouldn't want him as my backups. He's
- 10:33not an NFL quarterback and that's not you know, it's not his fault.
- 10:37He was picked where he was. But anytime you lose the turnt over battle
- 10:43by three or more, generally it is a massive blowout. Yes, well,
- 10:48I can't figure out is is this game more of an indictment on the
- 10:54Jets or more of an indictment on the Eagles, Like, is an indictment
- 10:58on the Jets that they were plus four and turnovers and it literally took a
- 11:03almost pick six for them to win the game, or it's more of an
- 11:07indictment on Eagle the Eagles kind of like what we've been talking about and you've
- 11:11highlighted this game was kind of coming yea and what does that mean for the
- 11:16future. So could be a little bit of both. Have not figured that
- 11:20out. Could be a little bit of both here, a little bit of
- 11:22both, yeah, I think so. You know, there's a lot of
- 11:24gray in life, and there's a lot of gray in football too. There's
- 11:28a lot of gray here, folks. With this Philadelphia Eagles team. I
- 11:31have to note. We have to highlight too, the fact that Aj Brown
- 11:35was absolutely on fire. One of the highlights of this game in terms of
- 11:41the Philadelphia Eagles and their performance. He went over one hundred and twenty five
- 11:45yards for the fourth straight game. It's the first time that that has ever
- 11:48happened with an Eagles wide receiver in the history of this franchise. So congrats
- 11:54State AJ Brown and where it's everybody else exactly exactly you saw Devine Tay Smith
- 12:00dropping passes. I'll tell you, even getting back to Jalen Hurts too,
- 12:05just some very very questionable passes that he was making. He probably could have
- 12:11had three more interceptions in this game. And that's being generous. He was
- 12:16not playing good football. I felt like he was forcing it. It seemed
- 12:20like he was forcing the ball into double coverage at times. When he didn't
- 12:26need to. He's still at time this particular game. Last week, I
- 12:30thought he saw the field a little bit more. Last week was a very
- 12:33good Jalen Hurts game, and this week he was going back to basically Week
- 12:37one, where there were guys who were open on the field. He just
- 12:41wasn't seeing him. He was just honing in on that one receiver right off
- 12:46the bat. Josh, I feel like the guy has regressed, And I
- 12:50hesitate to say that because I don't. I don't necessarily think he's regressed.
- 12:54It was a bad game. Again, we saw kind of saw this coming.
- 12:58But Jalen Hurts, it's made some very bad decisions in this game.
- 13:03I think he can rebound for sure, but it's gonna be a tough week
- 13:07for him to, you know, reflect on how he played in MetLife Stadium
- 13:13for sure. Yeah, and Hurt's apologists don't come after us this week.
- 13:20You know. My philosophy is, I'm happy the man got paid. Did
- 13:24he deserve to get paid. Absolutely, But when you're gonna get paid,
- 13:26and you're gonna get paid it's a top five quarterback in the NFL, I'm
- 13:31going to evaluate you as a top five quarterback in the NFL, and I
- 13:33think that that's fair. Last week, You're right, Hurts was great.
- 13:37It was wonderful. It was probably his first MVP like game. But Jeff,
- 13:43I'm gonna tay a little bit further than you took it. Okay,
- 13:45this wasn't regression to Week one this year. This was regression to first year
- 13:50Jalen Hurts. He down the touchdown, he scored. He fumbled. Yes,
- 13:54he's lucky it was at the end zone because if it wasn't, that's
- 13:58a fumble, which is yet another turnover. And you're right, I mean
- 14:01he could have easily had I think you're being very conservative with three additional interceptions,
- 14:09right. I have never ever seen Jalen Hurtz throw into double or triple
- 14:16coverage more than I have this year. I even made the comment to my
- 14:20dad last week that we were shocked that he didn't throw into double coverage once
- 14:24last week. That's not good. I think part of it is he's trying
- 14:31to show that he's worth that paycheck, because I can see him being that
- 14:35way, right, like he's gotten this money, he's earned the bag.
- 14:37He wants to show kind of like Trey Turner, right, But what it
- 14:41took. Was everybody rallying around Trey Turner because he even talked about it.
- 14:46Yeah, he talked about the fact that he felt like he had to do
- 14:48more because of the paycheck. And I think Jalen's the same way. Both
- 14:52of them, Trey Turner and Jalen Hurts, are very competitive, both of
- 14:56them for the good and sometimes for the bad. Expect the almost perfection from
- 15:01themselves. Yeah, that's kind of where Amak is. I'll get more into
- 15:05it when we get into grades. Do you think do you? Yeah?
- 15:09No, no, do you? But piggybacking off of that, do you
- 15:11think that perhaps because of the wide receiver corps that is here, because it's
- 15:15a very talented wide receiver corps, AJ Brown, Davante Smith, even Dallas
- 15:18Goddard, he trusts them enough to be able to go up and get the
- 15:22ball at the catch point. And I'm wondering if that's part of it too.
- 15:24Again, maybe it could be both things. Because I completely agree with
- 15:26what you just said. Another part of me thinks, Okay, if I
- 15:30have AJ Brown out there in double coverage, he is likely going to be
- 15:33coming down with the ball because it's AJ Brown. And I wonder if that
- 15:37plays into it as well. I think twofold. Not to complicate what you're
- 15:41saying, Yes, I do think that's part of it, but I also
- 15:46think it's part of it because either A the scheme is not allowing other players
- 15:54to be open, or B when they are open, you have Davante Smith
- 15:58where people literally you aren't even ten yards within him. It wasn't a bad
- 16:02pass and he just can't catch it. I don't know what is going on.
- 16:07I don't know where Dallas Goddard has gone. It was nice that he
- 16:10decided to, you know, arrive with the team last week. That's great,
- 16:15but really he's been invisible and they don't have a third wide receiver.
- 16:22I like Zekias last time. I spend time talking about how incredible he was
- 16:26in terms of blocking different things, and that's great. He's the personality you
- 16:30want for a number four wide receiver. They don't have a number three.
- 16:36But at this rate, I don't want him to bring one in because they're
- 16:38not going to touch the ball. Right. Very true, and so I
- 16:41think part of it, to your point is Hurts feels like he can only
- 16:45really trust aj Brown, and that's then lending him into throwing into double and
- 16:51triple coverage when you have a tight end running wide open over the middle or
- 16:55Devonte Smith running wide open down the side and beating the corners and he just
- 16:59can't see. Yeah, yeah, it's really amazing. I mean, Davante
- 17:03Smith was targeted eleven times, believe it or not, the most on this
- 17:07team in this game, eleven targets, but he only came down with five
- 17:11balls. Why did that happen? Jalen Hurts again thrown into some double coverage.
- 17:15Jalen Hurts is not making good passes DeVante Smith or the Dvante Smith.
- 17:18Yeah, dropping some of those balls too. Aj Brown targeted nine times here,
- 17:23came down with seven balls for one hundred and thirty one yards. And
- 17:26DeAndre Swift was really involved in the passing game. He had ten targets,
- 17:30came down with eight balls for forty yards. So it's interesting to look at
- 17:34this box score and you see where Jalen Hurts really wants to get the ball
- 17:38too. I mean, look, Dallas Goddard had eight targets as well.
- 17:42He caught the ball five times for forty two yards, which at eight targets,
- 17:48that's a pretty good that's a pretty good number. I don't mind that
- 17:51number, but his ability to make plays has been virtually non existent this year.
- 17:57Last week, Dallas Gotter kind of came out of his shell a little
- 18:00bit here and kind of kind of reverted back only forty two yards on the
- 18:06day. So I don't know any other thoughts that you have in terms of
- 18:11themes, whether offense or defensive here, Josh, I'm just like, I'm
- 18:14down trodden right now. I really am. Yeah. I think down trodden
- 18:19is a good word. Yeah. I think part of it is there was
- 18:26such hope going in with the Eagles being the last undefeated team and playing the
- 18:30Jets with Zach Wilson at quarterback yep. And I think it's just a reminder
- 18:38that we're not going to celebrate. It's not going to be a party every
- 18:42week, which stinks. But super Bowl is guaranteed. Super Bowl is not
- 18:48guaranteed. NFC championship game, folks, is not guaranteed. After witnessing this
- 18:52game, not at all. Yeah, not at all, you know.
- 18:56Honestly, my last thought is, as I'm watching these cornerbacks, and we'll
- 19:02get into this with coordinators, the Eagles are really lucky that they have not
- 19:08had to play a Shanahan yet they have not had to play. I know
- 19:14we give the Cowboys a lot of grief, but that Texas style offense is
- 19:19really gonna hurt if we continue to play five to ten yards off. Yeah,
- 19:26they're just ceedee. Lamb is literally just going to run all over slant
- 19:30routes. He's not even gonna have to go deep. And that's as I
- 19:33was watching this over and over again, as we made Zach Wilson look like
- 19:37an NFL quarterback, which he is not, and we made Sam Howell right
- 19:42the last time I was on this is what we were talking about. I,
- 19:45as a South Carolina fan, watched Sam Howell for years and people sit
- 19:49back off of him every week. It's the same thing. We just makee
- 19:53quarterbacks look really good because they have the middle of the field and they're sitting
- 19:59five ten yards off. Yep, yep. Well, folks, we're gonna
- 20:03take a quick break right here. We gotta regroup before we do some before
- 20:07we do some grades here, so we're gonna be grading by unit as we
- 20:11do on our postgame shows, and then grading the coaching as well. Let's
- 20:15take that quick break. We'll be right back, all right. We are
- 20:18back, folks, we are again with our good friend of the podcast,
- 20:22Josh Schuster from Philadelphia Soccer Now dot com. Thanks so much, Josh for
- 20:26filling in for the guys this week. Very much appreciate it. And let's
- 20:30get into grades here, grading by unit, the quarterback position that we always
- 20:33start off with. I mean, Jalen Hurts is getting he's getting an F
- 20:38this week from me. I gotta I gotta give him an F. I
- 20:41mean, look, there were some good plays that he made. He was
- 20:44using his feet to pick up first downs and stuff. But like as you
- 20:48said earlier, when you're paid as much money as you are, you are
- 20:52supposed to be a top five quarterback in the National Football League, you just
- 20:57have to play all lot better than the performance that he gave today. He
- 21:03gave a failing grade performance today he gets an F. What do you give
- 21:07him? Yeah, so he's easily getting an F for me and I don't
- 21:12even think. And again, part of it comes down to the contract.
- 21:21I want to read a stat line for you. Thirty three of fifty five
- 21:26three and twenty nine yards, one touchdown in three interceptions. Who do you
- 21:30think was that today? Take a guess. I wonder if that was was
- 21:37that CJ. Stroud? No, they won mina baby. Oh yes,
- 21:42all right, I'm sorry. But if Jalen Hurts is putting up comparable to
- 21:47worse numbers than Minshew Mania with the weapons and offensive line he has, I
- 21:52don't even think an F is fair. And again he's paid as the top
- 21:56five quarterback. Please please don't come after I don't hate Jalen Hurts. I'm
- 22:02not a Minshew guy. I'm not a once guy. I'm a guy that
- 22:06just expects a top five quarterback against the Jets with two cornerbacks out to play
- 22:12it at the very least a decent game and not bomb all over the field.
- 22:17And that's exactly what happens. So Jaalen, you get an F absolute
- 22:21minus. I'm creating a great for you. There you go, folks.
- 22:26He was twenty eight to forty five, two hundred and eighty yards, six
- 22:29point two yards per attempt, one touchdown, three interceptions. He ended with
- 22:33a rating of fifty nine point five. Meanwhile, Zach Wilson ended with a
- 22:38rating of seventy three point five. Okay, I know there's a quarterback battle
- 22:42today, Yes, it really was running backs. Well let's grade them right
- 22:48now. DeAndre Swift carried the ball ten times for eighteen yards, Kenneth Gainwell
- 22:52carried the ball two times for thirteen yards, and Boston Scott carried the ball
- 22:56two times for two yards. The and Jalen Hurts as a rusher. I
- 23:02know we're doing running backs, but Jalen Hurts led the team with forty seven
- 23:06yards on eight carries total. In terms of rushing on the day, three
- 23:10point six yards per rush. You take away those debt, Jalen Hurts five
- 23:14point nine yards per carry average, and it is a pitiful, a pitiful
- 23:22rushing average. But as we've talked about earlier, and as Josh mentioned earlier
- 23:26too, passing was the end all be all. It wasn't about the running
- 23:30backs. It wasn't about DeAndre Swift in terms of his rushes. Yes,
- 23:34he did touch the ball ten times one point eight yards. It's incredible.
- 23:40That's part of the offensive line as well. It's also part of a great
- 23:44Jets defensive line too. Let's be honest anyway, running backs, I am
- 23:48gonna give them this week a D. What do you give the running backs
- 23:51this week? Buddy? So I'm gonna be a little bit kinder I'm gonna
- 23:56give him a C minus, oh, simply because the the run defense they
- 24:00were going up against is phenomenal. Maybe the only team that can match him
- 24:04is the Eagles. And it was a smart game plan again with two pinners
- 24:11out AJ Brown, DeVante Smith, Dallas Goddard to pass the football and Jalen
- 24:18Hurts. But I'm not I'm not going to be super critical, so to
- 24:22expect them to average four yards of carry I think was unrealistic. I also
- 24:27think there are going to be games throughout the season where they have to preserve
- 24:33Swift. He was injured often in Detroit. If he really is the best
- 24:38running back, and I think that he is, they are going to need
- 24:41him come playoff time. Right. I don't think either of us are sitting
- 24:45here. Sky is falling. They aren't making the playoffs, so I would
- 24:48be shocked if they don't make the playoffs. They need DeAndre Swift for that.
- 24:51So I'm fine with him having a game or two here or there where
- 24:53they don't run the ball much. All right, very good receiving tight ends
- 24:59and receivers. Of course, we mentioned AJ Brown and the record that he
- 25:03put up today for consecutive games of one hundred and twenty five yards. No
- 25:07other Eagles wide receiver has done that. I mentioned some of the box score
- 25:11stats earlier from Devonte Smith, Dallas Goddard, and DeAndre Swift. For the
- 25:17most part, I think the wide receivers did what they were asked, except
- 25:21for Davonte Smith not catching some balls that were very, very catchable and it
- 25:26was not like him because when he goes up to the catch point, he's
- 25:30usually bringing that ball down with him. But I'm going to give the wide
- 25:33receivers this week a B minus. Maybe that's generous. I don't know what
- 25:37are your thoughts here? What great do you give the receivers. I'll go
- 25:41with the B plus. Okay, you know, I think you highlighted a
- 25:45number of things, and I mean aj Brown is doing things that literally the
- 25:49Eagles organization has never seen before, right, and I need to take that
- 25:53into account. But I am greatly concerned moving forward. I have been for
- 26:00a couple of weeks that that concern kind of dissipated a little bit last week,
- 26:07I think because everything went so well. But now that we are six
- 26:11schemes completed, I feel like if you have concerns at this point, it's
- 26:17fair. It's valid and they need to be observed moving forward. And I
- 26:21have great concerns about the wide receiving corps slash Jalen's willingness to trust the entirety
- 26:26of the receiving corps. Yep, all right, very good. The offensive
- 26:30line, as we noted, Lane Johnson going out with an ankle injury,
- 26:34Jeck Driscoll at right tackle, Sua Opetta again in at right guard in for
- 26:42Cam Jurgens who is injured. It was it was a rough day for this
- 26:48offensive line. That Jets defensive line was penetrating and penetrating, and they were
- 26:52getting they were getting Jalen Hurts out of that pocket, just moving him out
- 26:56again. In terms of the sacks, he was sacked twice today, but
- 27:02they were disruptive and a lot of it was because of an offensive line that
- 27:04just wasn't playing well. And I'm gonna give this offensive line a D minus
- 27:08this week. What do you give them, Josh Man, This is the
- 27:15one grade I was really unsure of. I'm gonna go with c Okay.
- 27:19I don't think it was that bad in the beginning when everybody was there,
- 27:23and then I think it just dropped off. Cliff and I think after Lane's
- 27:26injury, do you think, yeah, yeah, I want to be fair.
- 27:32I'm a person that's all about fairness, and so I feel like a
- 27:36CE might be a fair grade the pre lane and post lane, and so
- 27:41I'll give him a C. Okay, sounds good. Let's move over to
- 27:45the other side of the ball of the defense will start off with the defensive
- 27:48line. Again mentioned earlier, this may be known as the injury game because
- 27:52of how many injuries were on that defensive line. Holy cow, there were
- 27:56guys out there. I was like, who is this? Who is the
- 28:00us play? But you know they look, they ended up getting to Zach
- 28:07Wilson five times. They sacked him five times. And I do have to
- 28:11mention as well, one gentleman, Hassan Reddick. Five and a half sacks
- 28:15in the last three games. You know, him coming back, My gosh.
- 28:18I mean, if there's somebody that needed to just bolster themselves after the
- 28:23first few games of the season where it's like, where where is mister dominant
- 28:29Hassan Reddick, We've finally seen him the past three games. Again, five
- 28:32and a half sacks in the past three games. I'm actually gonna give this
- 28:36defensive line, because I really think they helped to keep this team in it
- 28:41in this game for as long as they did. I'm actually gonna give him
- 28:44a B plus. What do you give them? Yeah, I'm gonna go
- 28:48with C again, Okay. I I am equally as concerned that in the
- 28:56first half and it looks like quarterbacks just have all day. Yeah. But
- 29:03then in the second half, all of a sudden, it's almost like they
- 29:06decided, oh, hey, you know what, we should rush the quarterback.
- 29:08I'm going to give him a C because the first half was a D.
- 29:12The second half was a B to an A. Okay, so I'm
- 29:15going to give him a C. All right, all right, very fair.
- 29:18The rushing from the New York Jets eighty nine yards four point two yards
- 29:23per carry. Dalvin Cook with three carries for twelve yards, are really not
- 29:29trusting him. Breesehall twelve carries, thirty nine yards, he averaged three point
- 29:32three yards per carry, did have a touchdown. So I just wanted to
- 29:36throw that out there to the listeners as well. You know, with our
- 29:40grades that are a little bit different, a little bit different there. So
- 29:42just that's some context for you as you're listening and wherever you are listening at.
- 29:48So the linebackers I thought was interesting this week for this Eagles team,
- 29:52Josh, because Sean decide he was really mixing up the personnel at linebackers.
- 29:56Sometimes we saw Cunningham and Morrow, sometimes we saw Dean and Cunningham. We
- 30:03saw a lot of versatility in terms of the personnel at the running back position.
- 30:07I thought the running back or the I'm sorry, the linebackers did a
- 30:11really good job in this game. Nicholas Morrow with six total tackles, n
- 30:17Kobe Dean with four total tackles, Zach Cunningham with four total tackles on the
- 30:21day. So I'm actually gonna give them a be a straight up b.
- 30:25I think the linebackers did a pretty good job and it was good to have
- 30:27Nikcobe Dean back as well. I'm gonna give him a name as oken to
- 30:33me. How the tight end does. Really it dictates a lot of the
- 30:38grade in the middle of the field. Good point, and really the Jets
- 30:42didn't do much anything over there. And considering the personnel again, if I'm
- 30:48going to weigh Hurts based off of his contract that he's earned, you,
- 30:52they have a number of guys that are either rookies or that they've called off
- 30:56the street. And so for them to kind to shut everything down over the
- 31:00middle. And let's not act like the Jets don't have weapons. They do,
- 31:03right, Basically everything outside of quarterback they have. So for them to
- 31:10really shut down the middle of the field, they get a name Honus for
- 31:11me, all right. The secondary, cornerback and safety position. Again,
- 31:15as we noted a lot of injuries, a lot of injuries. It'll be
- 31:19good to have Darius Slid back hopefully. I'm not sure if it's going to
- 31:22be next game, but it'll be good to have them back for sure.
- 31:25Josh Joeba getting eaten away out there, poor guy. I'm going to give
- 31:30the secondary this week a C minus. What do you give them? They're
- 31:34getting en f Okay, I was so generous. I'm not even going to
- 31:40hold back. I get that the system is play five to ten yards off.
- 31:44Yeah, but I'm sorry, like, we're so tired of it continually
- 31:47getting beat and it's leading to the giving up field goals. Is okay when
- 31:52your offense scoring touchdowns, but when they're not, you can't keep doing it.
- 31:57Somebody has to go over and say we're not doing this anymore. We
- 32:02need to press yep, and nobody's doing it. And when they're sitting back,
- 32:07they're they're not making interceptions. They played Zach Wilson today, the guy
- 32:12that sees amazing no interceptions. Yep, there really weren't that many pass breakups.
- 32:15To be perfectly honest, the only incomplete passes were terrible throws by Zach
- 32:20Wilson. Yeah, I'm sorry, you get an F you're playing Zach Wilson.
- 32:23Sorry, only five passes defended. Definitely should have been more. I
- 32:27absolutely agree with you. You know what I'm bring to change your grade.
- 32:29I'm changing it to a D. I'm gonna change it to a D.
- 32:31Not gonna go total left. I'm changing it to a D. You made
- 32:35some great points, my friend, you made great points. Let's move over
- 32:38to the coaching staff right now. We're going to grade special teams first,
- 32:42then defense, then the offensive side of things. Special teams. Oh my
- 32:46god, Kaylee Ringo with a stupid penalty in the third quarter, running right
- 32:50into a punt returner. I almost lost my mind. I scared my wife,
- 32:53who is in our kitchen. We have like a we have like one
- 32:55of those open concept first floors where living room, kitchen right next to each
- 33:00other. I screamed, because it would. I mean, kids know not
- 33:04to do what Kailee Ringo did in terms of running into the punter and then
- 33:07speaking of punting, I don't know. Brittin Covey just a horrible day in
- 33:12my opinion, maybe got lucky last week. He had a really good week.
- 33:15Hey, now he had three whole returns for nine total yards. There
- 33:19you go, lock him in. Let's sign him to do an extension.
- 33:22I mean this his last punt return josh Ith geez, oh my, he
- 33:28ran right into a Jets player. He ran right into them. I'm like,
- 33:30my gosh, at least at least try to juke something, please.
- 33:35He just ran right into him. And then Jake Elliott missing his second field
- 33:39goal of the year, thirty one yarder for about it was about like what
- 33:43eight minutes and fifteen seconds left in the game could have made some sort of
- 33:46a difference in terms of at least a little bit of momentum. Who knows
- 33:51what would have happened if he had made that field goal, hinzight, we
- 33:54can't really really know that, but special teams absolutely sucked him, giving him
- 33:59a D minus. What do you give him? So this is where I'm
- 34:01going to be generous. I'm going to give a c oh okay. I
- 34:06think that Elliott gets a pass. I mean, he's literally won a game
- 34:09earlier in the season for the Heels. I'm going to give him a pass.
- 34:13He didn't even have the opportunity to redeem himself. I give him a
- 34:16pass. The punter he gets an A for me, And part of it's
- 34:20because we have such low expectations and punters at this point. In fact,
- 34:23we don't even have one on the fifty three. We call him up from
- 34:25the practice right because that's how we roll. So they get they either get
- 34:30an A or a pass for me. But Covey, man, he I
- 34:37think he has something on the coaching staff and just stupid penalties on special teams.
- 34:44I'm sorry they get an F. So somewhere in there, I guess
- 34:49I'll give it a c okay. I gave Michael clay An a last week.
- 34:52Man, Holy cowboy, we have really really gone done a one eighty
- 34:57here with regard to special teams, and they desire to Jeffy, you had
- 35:00to lower those expectationally. All right, Let's move on to the defensive side
- 35:05of the ball, Sean Decigh, it was, it was, it was
- 35:08up and down. But you know, talking about Zach Wilson, the type
- 35:13of quarterback that he is. You went into detail about it, Josh,
- 35:16and the fact that these cornerbacks and there's still five ten yards off of these
- 35:21receivers and they have some pretty decent receivers. They have weapons, as you
- 35:24mentioned. So I'm gonna give Sean Decizhs. I'm gonna give him a C
- 35:28minus this week. What do you give him? Oh, he's getting a
- 35:30n F too. Okay, I know it sounds like the sky is falling,
- 35:34but I'm sorry. Zach Wilson is the quarterback and they put up three
- 35:37touchdowns where it points on. Yeah, I don't care about the injuries on
- 35:40the side of the ball you are facing Zach Wilson. He is not an
- 35:45NFL quarterback. I'll say it again. He's not an NFL quarterback and they
- 35:49put up three basically three touchdowns worth of points on. You stop with this
- 35:53nonsense off the line, and if you're not gonna adjust, I will continue
- 35:57to give you an F all right offensive side of things. Brian Johnson,
- 36:01Nick Sirianni This week, look, you know, we know what the rushing
- 36:05situation was. They put the they put this game in Jalen Hurts his hands
- 36:08to get it done up in New York, and he didn't. It was
- 36:13it was bungling almost from start to finish. And I am going to give
- 36:17the offensive coaching staff this week D minus. What do you give him?
- 36:22I mean to give him an F two? Okay, part of me the
- 36:25biggest. If I had to rank why the Eagles lost today, number one,
- 36:30it's coaching staff slash game plan. Number two is Hurts. Number three
- 36:35is I don't even know. I really think there's two reasons why they lost
- 36:38today. Yeah, the red zone is a problem. I think we can
- 36:45say six weeks. Even even when they win and they win big, the
- 36:50red zone is still the issue. Yeah. And when you have Jason Kelce
- 36:54who has been in the league for a long time and he's expressing frustration with
- 37:00the coaching staff about the red zone, you know that we have problems.
- 37:04Yes, and so today it came back to bite them. And so I
- 37:08need I need to see the quarterback draws stop. Yes, Jalen Hurts can
- 37:15run on his own when the pocket breaks down, allow him to run then,
- 37:20but this constant running of him and him picking up five yards and sliding
- 37:24needs to stop. If you want a five yard run, call a run
- 37:28play. Yeah. Absolutely, You've got some weapons in terms of Boston Scott,
- 37:32in terms of DeAndre Swift, you have weapons if you want to run
- 37:37the ball and if the rushing attack is going to end up working in your
- 37:39game plan for sure. So it was good. It was great having you
- 37:44on, Josh. That's what I enjoyed about today. That's what I enjoyed
