Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: As part of our relentless coverage of the NFL.
- 0:02Speaker 2: This is football! This is football!
- 0:05Speaker 3: This is a Washington State Beef Commission's Football Friday.
- 0:09Speaker 1: This crowd is going nuts!
- 0:11Speaker 3: Football Fridays are brought to you by Washington's Beef Farmers
- 0:15Speaker 3: and Ranchers.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Beef, it's what's for dinner.
- 0:19Speaker 3: It's Football Friday with Greg Bell on your home for
- 0:23Speaker 3: the NFL. Sports Radio 93.3, KJR-FM.
- 0:31Speaker 4: Good morning, another big football weekend, Greg Bell. Jackson Feltz,
- 0:35Speaker 4: a little earlier than normal.
- 0:37Speaker 1: It's good to be with you, Greg.
- 0:39Speaker 5: It was a little bit of an earlier morning waking
- 0:41Speaker 5: up in Tacoma, but glad to be here with you.
- 0:44Speaker 6: I'm sure that was a pleasant drive in at rush hour,
- 0:46Speaker 6: 8 a.m.-ish.
- 0:47Speaker 5: Strangely, it wasn't bad. I was stunned that I made
- 0:51Speaker 5: it here in 55 minutes. I was expecting at least
- 0:55Speaker 5: an hour and a half.
- 0:56Speaker 1: That's the Friday thing now, right?
- 0:57Speaker 6: Post-COVID, no Monday and Friday traffic because everyone has three-day
- 1:00Speaker 6: weekends or works at home.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Thank you, everybody. It seems to be that way.
- 1:04Speaker 6: Anyway, Jackson's usually on the afternoon show producing and talking
- 1:08Speaker 6: with Dave Softy Muller and Dick Fane, but the Husky
- 1:10Speaker 6: honks and the tailgate show begins at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
- 1:14Speaker 6: There isn't even a Dick Fane and Dave Softy Muller
- 1:16Speaker 6: show because they're all going to be at Husky Stadium
- 1:18Speaker 6: because the 20th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes are in town to play tonight.
- 1:22Speaker 6: on a national television game that begins at 6 o'clock.
- 1:25Speaker 6: Jackson's doing double duty. He's going to do the Ian
- 1:27Speaker 6: Furness show that's abbreviated from 12 until 2, right up
- 1:30Speaker 6: to the Husky Honks tailgate show. So, yeah, high school football,
- 1:34Speaker 6: which we feature every Friday. We're going to do that
- 1:36Speaker 6: again today. That's still going on tonight, even though the
- 1:38Speaker 6: Huskies and the Cougars are stealing some of the attention
- 1:41Speaker 6: from the high schoolers. We're going to talk at 11
- 1:44Speaker 6: o'clock with Aaron Maul, the head coach of Seattle Prep
- 1:46Speaker 6: High School. And we're going to talk right after that, 11-15,
- 1:51Speaker 6: with Mason Azoz. He is the head coach of Mercer Island,
- 1:54Speaker 6: who's now 5-1 after a 34-0 win over Kamiak last night.
- 1:59Speaker 1: We'll talk to them.
- 1:59Speaker 6: They have a completely different past to being high school coaches.
- 2:02Speaker 6: Aaron Maul is a veteran who's been coaching in different
- 2:06Speaker 6: programs around western Washington a long time, decades in the
- 2:11Speaker 6: head coaching of high school football business. He has a
- 2:13Speaker 6: great perspective on the changing evolution of youth sports and football.
- 2:18Speaker 6: I've officiated many of his games on his sideline as
- 2:21Speaker 6: a side judge, line judge.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Aaron and I go back and forth quite a bit.
- 2:25Speaker 4: He's a great guy on the sidelines.
- 2:26Speaker 1: We have a good time.
- 2:27Speaker 6: Mason had no experience at all playing football at any
- 2:31Speaker 6: level and came up through the youth football ranks in
- 2:35Speaker 6: the Mercer Island community and now is the head coach
- 2:38Speaker 6: of a 5-1 team in.
- 2:41Speaker 1: The Kinko Conference.
- 2:42Speaker 6: So we're going to talk about the different path they
- 2:44Speaker 6: got through youth sports and to become where they are
- 2:47Speaker 6: as head football coaches. And our man, Dan Bean, who
- 2:51Speaker 6: has been my liaison to set up all these coach
- 2:53Speaker 6: interviews every Friday is going to join us because he
- 2:54Speaker 6: intimately knows both of them. He has been a football
- 2:57Speaker 6: coach himself. Dan Bean has been a football official. He
- 3:00Speaker 6: works with the Seattle prep program and he knows Mason
- 3:03Speaker 6: and Mercer Island as well. So he's going to chime
- 3:06Speaker 6: in and make it a conversation at 11 o'clock. We
- 3:08Speaker 6: love highlighting the high school coaches and what they do
- 3:11Speaker 6: for the youth of our area. It's a, It's at
- 3:15Speaker 6: times thankless, and it's certainly not a lucrative job for
- 3:18Speaker 6: the amount of time they put in. And our hats
- 3:20Speaker 6: off to every coach that's preparing for a high school
- 3:22Speaker 6: football game tonight and coaches across country and soccer and
- 3:26Speaker 6: everybody else that are going to be busy on the
- 3:29Speaker 6: prep and youth fields around the state of Washington this week.
- 3:33Speaker 1: We'll do that at 11 o'clock.
- 3:34Speaker 6: You're also going to learn about the Seahawks' newest running back,
- 3:38Speaker 6: Dante McMillan. You're going to hear his story and his words.
- 3:41Speaker 6: I talked to him yesterday in the locker room. And
- 3:44Speaker 6: it is quite a story. He's from West Seattle. He
- 3:46Speaker 6: went to Chiefs South High School, which is not really
- 3:49Speaker 6: known as a football factory for even Division I players,
- 3:53Speaker 6: let alone those that make it to the NFL.
- 3:56Speaker 1: He was raised by his grandmother.
- 3:58Speaker 4: He was not given a long life expectancy because of
- 4:02Speaker 4: complications at birth.
- 4:04Speaker 6: His mother, alleged drug use. His father was in prison.
- 4:08Speaker 6: It's a crazy story. He had learning disabilities. He ended
- 4:12Speaker 6: up earning a football scholarship by rushing for 2,019 yards, Jackson,
- 4:17Speaker 6: in one senior season and 44 touchdowns his senior year
- 4:21Speaker 6: at Chiefs South. He was the Metro Offensive Player of
- 4:24Speaker 6: the Year. And in the Metro, I mean, they got
- 4:26Speaker 6: O'Day and Eastside Catholic. And this running back from Chiefs South,
- 4:30Speaker 6: Dante McMillan, was the Metro League Offensive Player of the
- 4:33Speaker 6: Year in Seattle. And he left West Seattle to go
- 4:36Speaker 6: to Weber State. And the first guy he met at
- 4:39Speaker 6: Weber State and became his mentor was?
- 4:42Speaker 1: Rashid Shahid. How about that?
- 4:43Speaker 6: How about that? I talked to Rashid Shahid about that
- 4:46Speaker 6: as well. You're going to hear Dante McMillan's story on
- 4:50Speaker 6: our show today. You're also going to hear why the
- 4:52Speaker 6: Seahawks called a players-only meeting this week. Julian Love, Jaron Reed,
- 4:57Speaker 6: Leonard Williams, and Ernest Jones called it. The usual suspects.
- 5:00Speaker 6: The veterans on that defense, the outspoken leaders of that defense.
- 5:04Speaker 6: You'll hear my conversation in the locker room yesterday with
- 5:06Speaker 6: Julian Love on why they had a meeting this week
- 5:10Speaker 6: and more of why he does it. Julian Love talking
- 5:12Speaker 6: about it. It's actually a little more commonplace than you
- 5:14Speaker 6: might think. They did that this week heading into the
- 5:17Speaker 6: Sunday Seahawks 49ers early season showdown. 1130, our talkback time.
- 5:22Speaker 6: Go to iHeartRadio app or 933KGR. com. The little red microphone icon.
- 5:27Speaker 6: At the top of the page, you can click that
- 5:28Speaker 6: and just 30-second or shorter voicemail message, and Jackson will
- 5:31Speaker 6: play those back at 1130.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Do you guys get a lot of those on your
- 5:34Speaker 1: show in the afternoon? You know, we don't do a
- 5:35Speaker 1: lot of talkbacks.
- 5:36Speaker 5: We pretty much stick to our testimonials where we put
- 5:39Speaker 5: everything into a robot and let the robot spit out
- 5:41Speaker 5: the words instead of actual human beings. But I like
- 5:44Speaker 5: the actual hearing the human beings themselves talk, so that's good.
- 5:48Speaker 6: I'm interested to see what your bar is for playing
- 5:51Speaker 6: back talkbacks because there is no bar with Jessamyn.
- 5:54Speaker 1: If you just breathe into the phone, she's going to
- 5:56Speaker 1: put you on the air. I'm going to be a
- 5:57Speaker 1: little more. Yeah. She loves it. I'm going to be very,
- 5:59Speaker 1: very choice-y with that.
- 6:01Speaker 7: Okay.
- 6:01Speaker 1: So Jackson's going to be a little more discriminating.
- 6:03Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 6:03Speaker 6: Jessamyn loves the talkbacks and people's voices on our air,
- 6:06Speaker 6: so we've had people singing in the shower, or it
- 6:09Speaker 6: sounds like he was singing in the shower. Yeah, the
- 6:12Speaker 6: bar's been low. I tease her about that all the time.
- 6:14Speaker 6: But we'll play those back at 11.30. And 11.35 is
- 6:17Speaker 6: Factor of Fiction, your last chance of the week for
- 6:18Speaker 6: this show. And actually, last chance of the week, right?
- 6:21Speaker 6: Because the Pusky pregame show will be on at 2 o'clock.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Yeah, so Ian will not have a pick. Yeah, exactly.
- 6:27Speaker 6: And not a 3.35 either. So, your last chance of
- 6:29Speaker 6: the week. to be a $ 1, 000 winner this week from
- 6:33Speaker 6: the Lucky Eagle Casino Hotel. At 11.35, we'll have our
- 6:38Speaker 6: Factor Fiction pick the last one of the week. Then
- 6:40Speaker 6: Ian Furness will join me, tell us what's on his
- 6:42Speaker 6: show from 12 until 3. It is a Husky game day,
- 6:44Speaker 6: and our first question on the Tacoma Dodge text line, 49451.
- 6:49Speaker 1: What do the Huskies need to fix most?
- 6:52Speaker 6: Two consecutive Big Ten losses, a certainly winnable game down
- 6:55Speaker 6: at USC, and really they got steamrolled by Minnesota.
- 6:58Speaker 4: The final score didn't look like it. It sounds like
- 7:01Speaker 4: you have a couple things off the top of your
- 7:02Speaker 4: head that you'd like to fix most about your Huskies.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Jeez, Greg.
- 7:05Speaker 5: I mean, I think for UW this season, it's been
- 7:09Speaker 5: a combination of offensive issues in so many different places.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Let's start with the line, right? Right, the line.
- 7:16Speaker 5: That used to be their thing. We thought it was
- 7:18Speaker 5: going to be a strength, right? I mean, you're able
- 7:20Speaker 5: to bring in a freshman tackle on the left side,
- 7:23Speaker 5: and you hope for these rises out of other places
- 7:27Speaker 5: that just have not come.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I mean, Mills.
- 7:30Speaker 5: Overall, it's all kind of stemming from that, but Demond
- 7:34Speaker 5: is clearly making issues, and the running game is virtually non-existent.
- 7:39Speaker 5: It's gotten better slightly, but Greg, I mean, offensively, this
- 7:44Speaker 5: team is so massively challenged right now that what was
- 7:48Speaker 5: going into the season saying, well, gosh.
- 7:49Speaker 1: You're paying.
- 7:50Speaker 5: DeMond Williams, $ 4 million, and he could have been an
- 7:53Speaker 5: LSU quarterback, and there's hopes.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I still can't get used to that.
- 7:57Speaker 5: Jed Fish was pumping the whole, you know, we wanted
- 8:00Speaker 5: Heisman and all that, even, what, a year and a
- 8:02Speaker 5: half ago? So the hype was there, completely unwarranted, we
- 8:06Speaker 5: now know, because this offense has so many things to fix.
- 8:10Speaker 6: I haven't watched the Huskies a lot, because half the
- 8:12Speaker 6: time I'm traveling on Saturdays to Seahawks road trips, but
- 8:16Speaker 6: I did see most of the USC game. And at
- 8:19Speaker 6: the end, they're down four points, 25-21. They have two
- 8:25Speaker 6: chances inside the 30-yard line, a third down and fourth
- 8:27Speaker 6: down and 10 at the end of the game. Curious,
- 8:30Speaker 6: to say the least, if not objectionable, that Jed Fish
- 8:34Speaker 6: had DeMond Williams do the thing he's least good at,
- 8:38Speaker 6: and that's stand in the pocket and throw from behind
- 8:41Speaker 6: tall linemen.
- 8:43Speaker 1: He can't see the field, it seems. And he, too bad.
- 8:47Speaker 6: Poor throws, including the last one into double coverage and
- 8:50Speaker 6: a fade route into the end zone that was a
- 8:52Speaker 6: minimal chance of a success, why not run him, get
- 8:56Speaker 6: him sprinted out and do what he does best? If
- 8:59Speaker 6: that's all your run game is most of the season,
- 9:01Speaker 6: have at least a chance to gain four, five, six
- 9:04Speaker 6: yards on third down and then get third and four,
- 9:05Speaker 6: you do it again.
- 9:06Speaker 5: About two weeks ago, Softie had this one-on-one with Jed
- 9:10Speaker 5: and specifically asked him, you know, with the way the
- 9:13Speaker 5: offense is going, do you have to design some runs
- 9:16Speaker 5: for demand? And he paused and said, not yet. But
- 9:19Speaker 5: it's this element of DeMond Williams right now where his
- 9:22Speaker 5: best attribute is the running ability.
- 9:25Speaker 1: And if you aren't going to use that.
- 9:26Speaker 5: I mean, right now, Greg, watching DeMond Williams, I think
- 9:30Speaker 5: the height for him in his career... is going to
- 9:33Speaker 5: be playing in the CFL. I don't think that there
- 9:36Speaker 5: is any world right now where DeMond Williams can even
- 9:39Speaker 5: sniff the NFL, which if you were to tell us
- 9:41Speaker 5: that a year ago, thinking about the potential development of
- 9:46Speaker 5: DeMond Williams, it would be, I mean, this is a
- 9:48Speaker 5: massive disappointment for A, what you're paying him, and B,
- 9:51Speaker 5: what you expected a year and a half ago.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing now.
- 9:55Speaker 6: As a Husky fan, as a Husky donor, as someone
- 9:57Speaker 6: who pays some of the freight on this NIL and
- 9:59Speaker 6: Revenue show, it used to be, hey, they're college hits.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Come on. We're talking like they're pros.
- 10:04Speaker 6: Well, they are pros, and they always were, but now
- 10:06Speaker 6: they're paying $ 4 million for a quarterback. And yes, there's
- 10:11Speaker 6: some responsibility that comes with that and some accountability.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Yes. And that's the way the college world is going. Okay.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And I'm not here to say that DeMond Williams is
- 10:20Speaker 1: done or a failure.
- 10:22Speaker 4: But when you pay $ 4 million, yeah, there are going
- 10:26Speaker 4: to now be expectations inside and outside the program.
- 10:30Speaker 1: He's still got.
- 10:31Speaker 6: he's in a junior season and he's still got one
- 10:33Speaker 6: more and we're still what eight games remaining in this season,
- 10:37Speaker 6: but at three and two with two losses in the
- 10:39Speaker 6: big 10, it seems apparent both in spending and in
- 10:43Speaker 6: quality of play on the field that the Huskies are
- 10:45Speaker 6: outmanned in the big 10. And then they're going to
- 10:46Speaker 6: remain behind and maybe in the bottom echelon of that conference,
- 10:51Speaker 6: maybe through the time this revenue shares in half, which
- 10:53Speaker 6: is the end of the decade.
- 10:57Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 10:57Speaker 6: I mean, I teach at the University of Washington. I
- 11:01Speaker 6: teach in the United Collegiate Athletic Leadership Program. We teach
- 11:04Speaker 6: athletic directors and coaches, and I have a lot of
- 11:07Speaker 6: people I teach and recent graduates who are on the
- 11:10Speaker 6: staffs of the football, the basketball, and the athletic department
- 11:12Speaker 6: at UW.
- 11:14Speaker 1: They are straddling jacks in the line.
- 11:16Speaker 4: They really are torn between are we all in on
- 11:19Speaker 4: this new age of NIL transfer portal, sell your soul,
- 11:23Speaker 4: Big Ten SEC, or are we an academic institution, one
- 11:27Speaker 4: of the better public institutions in the country, and we
- 11:30Speaker 4: should strive for that?
- 11:31Speaker 1: I think they're trying to play both.
- 11:33Speaker 6: They don't want to be left behind as have-nots, which
- 11:36Speaker 6: is why they sold their souls to jump to the
- 11:38Speaker 6: Big Ten with Oregon for half the revenue here from 2030.
- 11:43Speaker 6: Yet they want to remain what they always have been,
- 11:45Speaker 6: which is one of the best public institutions for an
- 11:47Speaker 6: education in the world.
- 11:50Speaker 1: And now they're trying to do both. And they're an eighth, ninth,
- 11:52Speaker 1: tenth place team in the Big Ten.
- 11:56Speaker 6: That bottom line, I think, is going to dry up
- 12:00Speaker 6: the donations and the fans and the donors paying the
- 12:04Speaker 6: freight for this NIL and the arms race of college football.
- 12:08Speaker 6: The money you need to buy the players is to
- 12:09Speaker 6: compete with Ohio State in Michigan and now Minnesota. And
- 12:13Speaker 6: we'll find out tonight how much Iowa is. I think
- 12:16Speaker 6: two things in the Huskies' favor tonight, though, Jackson. You
- 12:19Speaker 6: mentioned the offense as well.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Iowa rarely scores over 17 points. And they're using a backup.
- 12:25Speaker 1: And they haven't. Thank you.
- 12:26Speaker 4: You pointed that out on Twitter this morning that the
- 12:29Speaker 4: Iowa starting quarterback is an upper.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Body injury, as they say. That sounds very hockey-ish.
- 12:35Speaker 6: But he's not playing tonight. And they're going to start
- 12:37Speaker 6: a backup on three sports. I reported that first this morning.
- 12:40Speaker 6: So the Huskies are going to be playing in what
- 12:42Speaker 6: looks like a wet condition. Raw, you know, 55-degree, rainy,
- 12:45Speaker 6: typical Pacific Northwest night against a backup quarterback on an
- 12:50Speaker 6: offense that usually doesn't produce more than 20 points in
- 12:52Speaker 6: a game anyway. Now, Iowa has beaten Michigan, which we
- 12:56Speaker 6: now know Michigan's not all that. They should have three
- 12:58Speaker 6: losses because Western Michigan beat them in 60 minutes. But
- 13:01Speaker 6: they had 60 minutes and one second, so they won.
- 13:03Speaker 6: And then last week, Iowa got boat raced in the
- 13:05Speaker 6: second half later by Ohio State, which is no shame there.
- 13:09Speaker 6: But a low-scoring game, you only need maybe a couple
- 13:13Speaker 6: big plays or a couple drives. Rather than sustained offensive
- 13:16Speaker 6: success tonight, you would think. 6 o'clock is the kickoff
- 13:20Speaker 6: tonight for the Huskies against Iowa in a rare Friday
- 13:22Speaker 6: night home game. Back-to-back home games, by the way, because
- 13:26Speaker 6: the Huskies next week go to West Lafayette and play
- 13:28Speaker 6: the Purdue Boilermakers on another Friday night. I don't know
- 13:32Speaker 6: how you feel. Because I'm a high school football official,
- 13:35Speaker 6: I've coached in high school sports. I think it's terrible
- 13:38Speaker 6: that they're encroaching on Friday night, but it makes me
- 13:40Speaker 6: sound old.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Get off my mind.
- 13:42Speaker 5: No, I mean, from the other side is from the
- 13:44Speaker 5: young side. Like, I don't like it because I like the–
- 13:47Speaker 5: I think there's an element for me of I grew up–
- 13:50Speaker 5: we all grew up watching Saturday college football. And it
- 13:53Speaker 5: just feels like you're just ruining yet another tradition. Like,
- 13:56Speaker 5: we've already ruined so many traditions. This is just another
- 13:59Speaker 5: tradition that we're ruining. I mean, selfishly, I know Softie
- 14:02Speaker 5: and Dick love it because it reduces the show we
- 14:05Speaker 5: have to do. I'm still working, so it doesn't really
- 14:07Speaker 5: matter for me. But, like, I know Dick could not
- 14:10Speaker 5: be more happy about this. But on, like, the side
- 14:14Speaker 5: of just the fan, like, don't we want... the, the,
- 14:18Speaker 5: the Saturdays where we get up and we, you know, if,
- 14:20Speaker 5: if the Huskies were hosting Iowa at noon at Husky
- 14:25Speaker 5: stadium tomorrow, then, then that would be amazing. That, that,
- 14:29Speaker 5: that should be what it is, but not, I think
- 14:31Speaker 5: you bring up a good point. When we're doing the
- 14:33Speaker 5: high school showcase at 11 o'clock, like it shouldn't Friday's
- 14:36Speaker 5: be for that?
- 14:37Speaker 1: Yes. Universally across the entire nation?
- 14:41Speaker 8: Yes.
- 14:41Speaker 1: And yet these games are happening everywhere across the nation. Yes.
- 14:43Speaker 1: There are six games, major games, including one going on
- 14:46Speaker 1: right now. Oh gosh, right now? There's a 1AA game.
- 14:49Speaker 1: No way.
- 14:51Speaker 6: I think it's in the MEAC, one of the Historically
- 14:54Speaker 6: Black Colleges and Universities Conference. That is going on right now.
- 14:58Speaker 6: I think it's Jackson State and Alabama State. There are
- 15:01Speaker 6: six games today, including the Cougars and the Huskies on
- 15:03Speaker 6: at the same time in two different games. Well, high
- 15:07Speaker 6: school football and parents and fans, who are Husky and
- 15:09Speaker 6: Cougars boosters and fans as well, are going to be
- 15:12Speaker 6: going to watch their sons play high school football tonight,
- 15:15Speaker 6: as it should be. Anything for television money, which is
- 15:18Speaker 6: dictating everything going on in.
- 15:20Speaker 1: College sports right now.
- 15:22Speaker 4: But yeah, I'm with you, Jackson. It should absolutely be
- 15:25Speaker 4: sacred Friday nights.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Nothing is sacred anymore in college football. In college sports
- 15:30Speaker 1: in general, you're right about that. That is for sure.
- 15:34Speaker 1: So double college football.
- 15:36Speaker 6: Huskies, Cougs going on tonight at 6 o'clock all at
- 15:38Speaker 6: the same time. So Sounders tomorrow. I haven't even looked
- 15:41Speaker 6: at the MLS standings other than I'm talking about the Revolution,
- 15:44Speaker 6: who used to be terrible. Are they still terrible?
- 15:46Speaker 9: No, they're really good.
- 15:46Speaker 5: Second place in the Eastern Conference. Second best defense in
- 15:49Speaker 5: the East. But, hey, the Sounders are now unbeaten in
- 15:53Speaker 5: eight games. They had an eight-game losing streak, and now
- 15:55Speaker 5: they're unbeaten in eight.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Three straight wins.
- 15:57Speaker 6: They've gone from 14th to, what, 7th in the Western Conference.
- 16:00Speaker 6: So they're, what, they get a No.
- 16:02Speaker 1: 2 seed in the first round of the playoffs as
- 16:03Speaker 1: it stands right now? Yeah.
- 16:04Speaker 5: As it stands right now, but it's a Western conference
- 16:07Speaker 5: that has one really good team and.
- 16:09Speaker 1: The rest are.
- 16:11Speaker 4: Remind us, who's the dominant team?
- 16:13Speaker 1: LAFC? Surprisingly, Vancouver.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Oh, that's right.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Whitecaps for a couple years now.
- 16:17Speaker 5: They were the West champions last year and they've just
- 16:20Speaker 5: decided to stack that onto a great season this year.
- 16:23Speaker 5: So as long as you're not facing the number one seed,
- 16:26Speaker 5: the Whitecaps in the first round, I think the Sounders
- 16:28Speaker 5: should probably win that first-round series.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Which would be against, as it currently stands now. Dallas,
- 16:33Speaker 1: which is a meh team. They've had them before in
- 16:35Speaker 1: the first rounds. So remind me, is it best of
- 16:38Speaker 1: three in the first round? It's the dumbest playoff situation
- 16:40Speaker 1: you could possibly.
- 16:41Speaker 9: It changes.
- 16:41Speaker 1: It's so stupid. I absolutely hate it.
- 16:43Speaker 5: And frankly, I'm not getting in trouble for saying that.
- 16:45Speaker 5: The players and coaches all hate it, too. This is
- 16:48Speaker 5: for Apple TV money. First round is a best of three.
- 16:52Speaker 5: Then it's a one-off the rest of the way.
- 16:54Speaker 4: Oh.
- 16:56Speaker 6: Let's put the least attractive matchup as the best of three.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Ridiculous. So ridiculous. Okay. Sometime when we have time, I'm
- 17:03Speaker 1: going to talk to you about the Apple TV contract.
- 17:05Speaker 10: Oh, yeah.
- 17:06Speaker 6: Man, you talk about selling out your soul. You delineated
- 17:10Speaker 6: a ton of people with that move, did you not?
- 17:11Speaker 5: Oh, and everybody with the league. Everybody with the league.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Players, coaches.
- 17:16Speaker 5: They are so vocal about how much they hate this
- 17:19Speaker 5: new system. The strange thing, too, is that they changed
- 17:23Speaker 5: from a system that was so good.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Yes, it was. The NFL copied it.
- 17:28Speaker 5: The NFL system that they currently run, they copied from
- 17:32Speaker 5: the former MLS system.
- 17:34Speaker 1: That's how good it was. In what way?
- 17:36Speaker 5: So in the sense of you reward the team who
- 17:39Speaker 5: gets the number one in the regular season. And then
- 17:42Speaker 5: you reward home field advantage, but you don't stack too
- 17:44Speaker 5: many games.
- 17:46Speaker 1: And it is in the NFL a perfect model.
- 17:49Speaker 5: And soccer had it and said, yeah, no, Apple wants
- 17:52Speaker 5: more games, so let's put more playoff games in the
- 17:54Speaker 5: dumbest place possible, the first round.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I knew we'd get Jackson.
- 17:59Speaker 4: We talked about MLS formats and TV contracts. Up next,
- 18:05Speaker 4: the Seahawks had a players only meeting this week. Safety
- 18:07Speaker 4: and Julian Love was one of the four veterans who
- 18:10Speaker 4: called it. You'll hear my talk in the Seahawks locker
- 18:12Speaker 4: room yesterday with the Pro Bowl veteran safety. And I'm
- 18:15Speaker 4: going to, you let me ask him how often he
- 18:17Speaker 4: does that called players only meetings a little more than
- 18:19Speaker 4: you may think. Later on, you're going to hear about
- 18:21Speaker 4: our talk yesterday with Dante McMillan from Chiefs South High School.
- 18:26Speaker 1: What a story he has.
- 18:27Speaker 6: His path, as I wrote in the News Tribune at
- 18:29Speaker 6: thenewstribune.com this morning, his path from West Seattle to becoming
- 18:32Speaker 6: a Seahawk is far more than just across town. At
- 18:35Speaker 6: 11 o'clock, our high school football showcase, showcasing Seattle Prep
- 18:38Speaker 6: and Mercer Island. They're not playing each other today, but
- 18:40Speaker 6: their two coaches have exactly opposite paths to where they
- 18:43Speaker 6: are today. An 11-35 factor fiction, a chance to win $ 1, 000.
- 18:46Speaker 6: All that's coming up on the Washington State Beef Commission
- 18:49Speaker 6: Football Friday on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 18:52Speaker 3: Now back to the Washington State Beef Commission's Football Friday
- 18:56Speaker 3: with Greg Bell on your home for the NFL. Sports
- 19:00Speaker 3: Radio 93.3 KJR FM.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Welcome back.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Thanks for listening.
- 19:15Speaker 6: Greg Bell and I was going to say Jessamyn McIntyre,
- 19:17Speaker 6: but she's in Utah because Washington State's playing Utah State
- 19:20Speaker 6: in a few hours. College Football on a Friday. Jackson
- 19:23Speaker 6: Feltz is in here until actually 2 o'clock. He's doing
- 19:26Speaker 6: Ian Furness' show, producing and co-hosting, basically co-hosting, until 2
- 19:31Speaker 6: o'clock when the Husky Honks take over the Husky Tailgate
- 19:33Speaker 6: pregame show from Husky Stadium.
- 19:35Speaker 1: There's a lot of Huskies in that sentence.
- 19:37Speaker 6: UW is playing at home tonight on Montlake against 20th-ranked Iowa.
- 19:41Speaker 6: Kickoff is at 6 o'clock here on 93.3 KJRFM. The
- 19:45Speaker 6: Kraken are beginning a five-game road trip in Detroit, and
- 19:47Speaker 6: they play the Red Wings on the 9.50 a.m.
- 19:48Speaker 10: Side.
- 19:50Speaker 6: That's a 3.30 pregame with Mike Benton and a 4
- 19:52Speaker 6: o'clock puck drop in the Motor City. So Huskies and
- 19:56Speaker 6: Cougs playing at the same time, and high school football
- 19:58Speaker 6: going on at the same time tonight as well in
- 20:01Speaker 6: the rain here in western Washington on the second Friday
- 20:04Speaker 6: of October. The Seahawks, of course, are playing the San
- 20:08Speaker 6: Francisco 49ers, 3-1 Seattle against 4-0 San Francisco for the
- 20:14Speaker 6: early lead in the NFC West. The Seahawks are coming
- 20:17Speaker 6: off a game against the Chargers. They led 27-6 and
- 20:21Speaker 6: then amassed 150 yards in penalties, a team record, seven
- 20:26Speaker 6: personal fouls, four of them advancing drives that should have
- 20:30Speaker 6: been over for the Chargers, which is how the Chargers
- 20:32Speaker 6: got back into the game. On the heels of that,
- 20:35Speaker 6: Julian Love, Leonard Williams, Ernest Jones, Jaron Reed. The veteran
- 20:40Speaker 6: leaders of the Seahawks defense called a team meeting, players-only meeting,
- 20:44Speaker 6: this week. I talked to Julian Love, myself, Bob Contello
- 20:47Speaker 6: of the Seattle Times, and a couple of the beat writers,
- 20:49Speaker 6: corralled Julian Love in the Seahawks locker room yesterday about
- 20:52Speaker 6: that and more.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Here's what he said.
- 20:54Speaker 8: Let's go.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Stop shopping.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Love it.
- 20:57Speaker 5: The success you had against them last year, how much
- 21:00Speaker 5: does that inform you guys versus being like, hey, this
- 21:03Speaker 5: is a new season and that's something new?
- 21:04Speaker 7: It's definitely informed. It informs us. Good to know what
- 21:10Speaker 7: we're building off of. Just like them, they've had a
- 21:11Speaker 7: whole off season to think about this game or playing
- 21:14Speaker 7: us again. Same with us. We're just going to try
- 21:17Speaker 7: to take the next step. I think the biggest thing
- 21:18Speaker 7: when you have two masterminds of the game going against
- 21:21Speaker 7: each other at coach, it's understanding how players play. tendencies,
- 21:28Speaker 7: cadences of the player.
- 21:29Speaker 8: As opposed to the scheme. And that gives you a
- 21:32Speaker 8: viable feel of what guys do.
- 21:34Speaker 11: Does the offense look pretty similar to what you've seen
- 21:37Speaker 11: or have there been some wrinkles there with the way
- 21:39Speaker 11: that they've been playing here early?
- 21:41Speaker 7: I think there's a few wrinkles just off of the
- 21:42Speaker 7: personnel they've added. Kind of getting Debo back adds some
- 21:46Speaker 7: things for them. I think having Mike Evans creates a
- 21:48Speaker 7: whole lot for them. And just so far they've been
- 21:51Speaker 7: playing really efficiently. Parker Purdy's probably playing the best football
- 21:54Speaker 7: he's ever played up to this point. So it's like
- 21:57Speaker 7: It's obviously a lot of similarities, a lot of things
- 21:59Speaker 7: that they've done over the years, just catering, I think,
- 22:01Speaker 7: more to how their guys are playing.
- 22:03Speaker 4: What worked for you guys in the defense against them
- 22:06Speaker 4: last year?
- 22:06Speaker 8: I think we communicated really well. I think these guys do.
- 22:08Speaker 7: A lot of stuff pre-snap, motion shifts, crazy alignments. I think,
- 22:13Speaker 7: for the most part, we have a good feel of
- 22:15Speaker 7: our communication versus them.
- 22:17Speaker 8: And that's just like man for a man, understanding who
- 22:20Speaker 8: you're lined up against. I think we match up well
- 22:22Speaker 8: with them, just body for body. I think that's our biggest...
- 22:25Speaker 8: advantage compared to any other team.
- 22:27Speaker 1: And tackling. It's important in every game, but against these guys,
- 22:30Speaker 1: like McCaffrey.
- 22:31Speaker 4: In space and tackling him, how big a factor is
- 22:34Speaker 4: that you guys had Eamon Worry and guys.
- 22:37Speaker 7: That tackle on the open field? It's a big deal.
- 22:40Speaker 7: They have playmakers. Kittle McCaffrey leads the charge, but also
- 22:44Speaker 7: Brock Ferdie makes a ton of guys miss. And so, yeah, tackle,
- 22:47Speaker 7: but not just doing it early in the game, just
- 22:50Speaker 7: well into the fourth, being consistent in our swarming mindset,
- 22:54Speaker 7: I think. We don't like to do one-on-ones or go one-for-one.
- 22:57Speaker 7: If we can get a whole ten hats in the
- 23:01Speaker 7: play and the screen at the time of.
- 23:02Speaker 8: A tackle, we're doing things right.
- 23:04Speaker 6: This players' meeting that Jaron Reed told us about yesterday,
- 23:06Speaker 6: you guys' leaders called.
- 23:08Speaker 7: What was the impetus for that? I don't know, just vibes,
- 23:12Speaker 7: I think. I think we have a good pulse of
- 23:14Speaker 7: the guys in the locker room. It's always interesting when
- 23:17Speaker 7: you win a game and everyone is feeling a certain
- 23:20Speaker 7: way after the game. And so I think it was
- 23:23Speaker 7: Slime who, or Dave Reed, who initiated it all.
- 23:28Speaker 8: And it's our present set of peace.
- 23:29Speaker 1: We just kind of said what we had.
- 23:30Speaker 8: To say about what our focus should be on. And yeah,
- 23:33Speaker 8: we'll keep it at that.
- 23:34Speaker 1: How many times in a season do you guys go
- 23:36Speaker 1: to that well?
- 23:38Speaker 8: Go to a players-only meeting.
- 23:40Speaker 1: A good amount.
- 23:41Speaker 8: I mean, we've done it throughout camp.
- 23:43Speaker 7: It's not ever a situation of a moment of crisis.
- 23:45Speaker 7: I think if you do it consistently, just a check-in
- 23:48Speaker 7: with each other, no coach speak, none of that stuff,
- 23:51Speaker 7: just being real with each other, I think it's important.
- 23:53Speaker 8: So yeah, we've been doing this since OTA's camp. This
- 23:55Speaker 8: might have been our second of the season.
- 23:58Speaker 7: Just a moment of clarity, let's just come together as
- 24:01Speaker 7: the guys are actually on the field doing the things.
- 24:04Speaker 11: How much does Shanahan's passing game, how much does that
- 24:09Speaker 11: put strain on you guys in the back end from
- 24:11Speaker 11: that communication standpoint? He's always been so good at mixing it,
- 24:15Speaker 11: passing misdirections and stuff like that.
- 24:18Speaker 1: It's a beast.
- 24:18Speaker 7: It's the main challenge of playing these guys. There's so
- 24:21Speaker 7: many different looks that you can present to it. And
- 24:24Speaker 7: it keeps you off your feet. It keeps you on
- 24:26Speaker 7: your heels, not being in an attacking mindset. So we're
- 24:30Speaker 7: just trying to be calm in our communication and just, yeah,
- 24:33Speaker 7: stay on the aggression.
- 24:34Speaker 8: What did it feel like after that game? Chargers?
- 24:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:38Speaker 8: We left a lot out there.
- 24:39Speaker 7: I feel like we are a team that likes to
- 24:42Speaker 7: stack wins, stack plays.
- 24:44Speaker 8: And even though we were up, whatever it was, half,
- 24:46Speaker 8: we were strong. It's like, okay, we should be stacking.
- 24:49Speaker 8: We want to continue to go this way. And we
- 24:52Speaker 8: want the game to kind of get close.
- 24:53Speaker 7: And we won in the death zone, but just we
- 24:57Speaker 7: know what it looks like when it looks good.
- 24:58Speaker 8: Was it just the penalties or what else did you feel?
- 25:00Speaker 8: That was a huge factor. I think guys need to
- 25:02Speaker 8: get in better, just like great with that.
- 25:05Speaker 7: On those 19-play drives, it's like guys are a little
- 25:08Speaker 7: gassed by the end of it.
- 25:09Speaker 8: It's a mixture of things.
- 25:10Speaker 7: It's the penalties, but it's also winning critical downs. Fourth
- 25:13Speaker 7: down for us in defense, and they got two conversions.
- 25:16Speaker 7: It's like somebody says, like, Let's be sharp there and
- 25:19Speaker 7: things just look different.
- 25:20Speaker 8: You're a versatile guy. You play different spots.
- 25:23Speaker 12: Have you ever gone four-point stance at the line of
- 25:25Speaker 12: scrimmage across from the tackle?
- 25:27Speaker 8: No, I have not. That's D-Man Warrior.
- 25:31Speaker 1: He's one of one.
- 25:33Speaker 7: Pretty cool getting the install of that one. He said
- 25:37Speaker 7: he had a good full-point stance, and it looked pretty clean.
- 25:39Speaker 8: He did a good job.
- 25:40Speaker 12: Obviously, a couple penalties he won back, but otherwise, in
- 25:42Speaker 12: that game, I feel like he's all the way back.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:45Speaker 8: No, Nick is back for sure. He's playing good ball. Obviously,
- 25:48Speaker 8: he's playing those little things, like puns, but whatever.
- 25:50Speaker 7: We're going to need him in a big way this year,
- 25:55Speaker 7: just like we did last year.
- 25:57Speaker 8: He's an extractor player.
- 25:59Speaker 7: Adding that three-point stance and the defensive end-out to his game. Yeah.
- 26:05Speaker 8: How much more does that.
- 26:06Speaker 11: Amplify your guys' ability to be able to dictate on
- 26:09Speaker 11: defense even than last year?
- 26:11Speaker 8: Yeah, it's cool.
- 26:13Speaker 7: They don't know what he's going to do. They don't
- 26:15Speaker 7: know what a lot of our guys are going to do.
- 26:17Speaker 7: It's a credit to him. It's a credit to Nick.
- 26:21Speaker 7: He just is very selfless. He takes coaching well. Obviously,
- 26:26Speaker 7: he wants to clean up a few things from the game,
- 26:29Speaker 7: but he strides further along than he was at this.
- 26:31Speaker 8: Point last year.
- 26:32Speaker 7: So something like that, I mean, it's just a small
- 26:34Speaker 7: peek into what he could do as a football player.
- 26:37Speaker 8: Yeah, four-point stands, two, three, whatever it is, he's a playmaker.
- 26:40Speaker 13: It's easy to see the athletic ability that a lot
- 26:42Speaker 13: of teams do, that kind of rare trait.
- 26:44Speaker 8: But what about the mental side? Like Jeremy at this point,
- 26:46Speaker 8: he's practicing with like every coach. Just the mental side
- 26:49Speaker 8: of that.
- 26:49Speaker 1: It's a beast.
- 26:50Speaker 7: I mean, it's not just like, you know, for me,
- 26:52Speaker 7: for example, I might be working with, you know, Some
- 26:55Speaker 7: linebacker stuff, some safety stuff.
- 26:58Speaker 8: Every level of our defense, every coach has something for him.
- 27:03Speaker 7: Every play, he might be getting six voices talking to him.
- 27:06Speaker 8: And he's taking the home stride.
- 27:07Speaker 7: He's done a really good job of just being patient
- 27:09Speaker 7: with himself, applying and learning to the field each day.
- 27:13Speaker 7: And that goes way beyond unspoken about how tough it
- 27:17Speaker 7: is to line up at six different spots and just
- 27:21Speaker 7: to be effective at those spots, not just line.
- 27:23Speaker 8: Up well for produce and stuff. Yeah, the mental can
- 27:26Speaker 8: be spoken about.
- 27:26Speaker 13: You've been on both sides of rivalries, I mean, kind
- 27:29Speaker 13: of winning and losing. There'll probably be a lot made
- 27:31Speaker 13: down there of you guys winning on their field last year,
- 27:34Speaker 13: winning the Super Bowl on their field last year. Do
- 27:35Speaker 13: you think that kind of stuff will matter much come
- 27:38Speaker 13: Sunday if they have it?
- 27:39Speaker 8: No, I mean, they might feel a certain way. I think,
- 27:41Speaker 8: regardless of kind of what happened last year, we don't
- 27:43Speaker 8: like them. They don't like us, like, straight up.
- 27:44Speaker 7: They might like us a little bit more because we'll
- 27:46Speaker 7: have them at the end of the last season, but.
- 27:48Speaker 8: It is what it is.
- 27:49Speaker 7: You know it's going to be a fist fight against
- 27:51Speaker 7: a division opponent.
- 27:53Speaker 8: That's all of them. They don't like anybody in our division.
- 27:55Speaker 8: It's understood that has to be explained. If you throw
- 27:58Speaker 8: fuel to the fire, the fire should be burning pretty
- 28:00Speaker 8: high already.
- 28:01Speaker 10: Julian, is versatility a must for players nowadays?
- 28:04Speaker 12: Whether it's Nick doing his stuff, Rasheed and Jax doing
- 28:07Speaker 12: backfield stuff, tight end split in time at fullback, you
- 28:09Speaker 12: playing cornerback.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Is it... Is it just one of those.
- 28:12Speaker 12: Things where if you only do one thing, it's tough
- 28:15Speaker 12: to kind of do it? You have to kind of
- 28:16Speaker 12: be able to do a couple different jobs.
- 28:18Speaker 2: From time to time?
- 28:18Speaker 7: I think it's becoming a must in order to be great,
- 28:22Speaker 7: to be considered.
- 28:22Speaker 8: And to have longevity. You've got to be able to
- 28:24Speaker 8: do a lot.
- 28:25Speaker 7: I think the days of this guy does one thing
- 28:27Speaker 7: very well, that can be schemed out now. And so
- 28:30Speaker 7: we have a lot of guys that can do a
- 28:31Speaker 7: lot of things. And so I think a lot of
- 28:34Speaker 7: guys in this room are going to play a while
- 28:35Speaker 7: because they can line up in different spots and produce.
- 28:38Speaker 1: At those spots.
- 28:42Speaker 4: That's Julian Love, the Pro Bowl safety, former New York
- 28:46Speaker 4: Giants captain. He's played every position in the secondary. You
- 28:49Speaker 4: heard John Boyle of the Seahawks team website mentioning that
- 28:52Speaker 4: and referring to that. He's played outside corner. He's played
- 28:55Speaker 4: inside at nickel. He's played deep safety. He's played down
- 28:58Speaker 4: on the box as a strong safety. He's done everything
- 29:00Speaker 4: in the NFL. Did a lot of it at Notre Dame, too,
- 29:03Speaker 4: before the Giants drafted him and made him a captain.
- 29:06Speaker 4: Seahawks got him another John Schneider, I mean.
- 29:09Speaker 6: A former captain of a team in the NFL in
- 29:12Speaker 6: the back of a defense, and now he's doing the
- 29:14Speaker 6: same type of directing and leading in the back of.
- 29:17Speaker 1: A Seahawks defense.
- 29:18Speaker 6: He's going to have Ty Okada, it looks like, next
- 29:21Speaker 6: to him. Okada has been practicing fully the last two
- 29:23Speaker 6: days for the first time since his hamstring injury in August,
- 29:26Speaker 6: and that would, if Leonard Williams can play Jackson, that
- 29:29Speaker 6: would be the most full this Seahawks defense has been
- 29:32Speaker 6: since the Super Bowl, because Nick Emanwuri will be playing
- 29:35Speaker 6: the most he's played all season and in the most
- 29:37Speaker 6: positions and different roles that he's had all season.
- 29:40Speaker 1: This far. They will be full. It will not be
- 29:43Speaker 1: the same defense as the first four games.
- 29:45Speaker 5: Greg, the concern I have is when you face Christian McCaffrey,
- 29:48Speaker 5: the potential of Leonard Williams, like today's injury report when
- 29:51Speaker 5: it comes out later today. that's the one I'm looking
- 29:54Speaker 5: for and saying, please God, Leo, if, if big cat,
- 29:58Speaker 5: whatever you can give us, this is whenever you face
- 30:01Speaker 5: a top elite level, top five, top three running back,
- 30:04Speaker 5: you need Leonard Williams in your team. If we don't
- 30:08Speaker 5: have him, my concern level, like, you know, we talk
- 30:12Speaker 5: about the importance of Nicky Memorial, Julian love, you notice Jones,
- 30:15Speaker 5: all those guys, but like for my money facing McCaffrey,
- 30:19Speaker 5: you need Williams in this game.
- 30:21Speaker 4: If Williams doesn't play, we'll find out about just after
- 30:23Speaker 4: 120 by the time we talk to Mike McDonald. And
- 30:26Speaker 4: the Seahawks now have a habit of instead of giving
- 30:28Speaker 4: us the injury report at 1 o'clock when it's due
- 30:29Speaker 4: into the league, they wait and let Mike McDonald reveal
- 30:32Speaker 4: it to us in the same motion. We're supposed to
- 30:35Speaker 4: be asking questions about that. That doesn't let us prepare questions.
- 30:38Speaker 4: We're kind of ambushed in that way, but whatever.
- 30:41Speaker 6: But if he doesn't play, I would expect Kyle Shanahan
- 30:46Speaker 6: to go much more inside zone and some inside the
- 30:49Speaker 6: tackles and guards running than they usually do.
- 30:51Speaker 1: They usually try to stretch out horizontally.
- 30:54Speaker 6: But if Leonard Williams is not there in the three-tech, five-tech,
- 30:57Speaker 6: or nine-tech spot of defensive tackle to end, I would
- 30:59Speaker 6: think that's going to be the problem area for Seattle.
- 31:02Speaker 1: That's a good point.
- 31:03Speaker 6: Nicky Manwari has been the kryptonite to Kyle Shanahan because
- 31:07Speaker 6: of his tackling of Christian McCaffrey immediately after the catch
- 31:10Speaker 6: in the flat. Usually that's where McCaffrey makes his money
- 31:14Speaker 6: after catches, and Eamon Worry has been the demon to
- 31:17Speaker 6: stop that. One other thing I wanted to mention about
- 31:19Speaker 6: what you just heard from Julian Love. I think it
- 31:21Speaker 6: is a commentary on the culture that the Seahawks have
- 31:25Speaker 6: in their locker room that they have players-only meetings after wins.
- 31:29Speaker 6: And also that they do it quite a bit. You
- 31:31Speaker 6: heard Julian Love when I asked him, well, how often
- 31:33Speaker 6: do you go to that well? You don't want to
- 31:35Speaker 6: crack the whip on players-only meetings all the time.
- 31:37Speaker 1: You lose effect. He said, actually, we have a good
- 31:39Speaker 1: pulse on our team. We do it all the time.
- 31:40Speaker 1: We do it in training camp, doing the preseason. Here
- 31:43Speaker 1: we are week four. After the week four game, they're
- 31:45Speaker 1: doing it already.
- 31:47Speaker 6: That is a lot of the autonomy that Mike McDonald
- 31:49Speaker 6: gives to his players. Now, every team has that and
- 31:52Speaker 6: leadership in the locker room. But you don't often see
- 31:55Speaker 6: players only team meetings after wins. And that's how their
- 31:58Speaker 6: standard has elevated. They're trying to pay. It's not perfection
- 32:02Speaker 6: in like the 17-0 Miami Dolphins of 1974. They're trying
- 32:05Speaker 6: to chase perfection of the process. Because they know Mike
- 32:09Speaker 6: McDonald stresses all the time the process because he knows
- 32:11Speaker 6: if he nails the process, the results will take care
- 32:13Speaker 6: of themselves. So the Seahawks' challenge every week is to
- 32:16Speaker 6: make the process better than it was last week. Well,
- 32:18Speaker 6: that process would get a whole lot better if Leonard
- 32:22Speaker 6: Williams is in the lineup on Sunday against the 49ers,
- 32:25Speaker 6: to Jackson's point.
- 32:27Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 32:27Speaker 4: The injury report coming out just after 1 o'clock. I'll
- 32:30Speaker 4: do that for the News Tribune. I'll probably text you
- 32:32Speaker 4: and Ian and what they're saying about Leonard Williams.
- 32:35Speaker 9: We'd love that, yeah.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Yeah, why not?
- 32:37Speaker 6: Up next, there's a really, really wild story on how
- 32:41Speaker 6: Dante McMillan, the new Seahawks' Practice squad running back, signed
- 32:45Speaker 6: this week. Got from West Seattle, Chiefs South High School,
- 32:48Speaker 6: to the Seahawks, to the NFL. You'll want to hear
- 32:52Speaker 6: a story from his words.
- 32:53Speaker 4: I wrote it in the News Tribune at thenewstribune.com.
- 32:55Speaker 1: The story's up right now.
- 32:56Speaker 6: But you get to hear from Dante McMillan from West Seattle,
- 32:59Speaker 6: from Delridge, neighborhood of West Seattle, not given much chance
- 33:03Speaker 6: to do a lot.
- 33:04Speaker 1: And you'll hear why. And now he's in the NFL.
- 33:06Speaker 1: That's next on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Now back to the Washington State Beef Commission's Football Friday
- 33:13Speaker 3: with Greg Bell on your.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Home for the NFL.
- 33:16Speaker 3: Sports Radio 93.3 KJR FM.
- 33:26Speaker 6: Hi, welcome back to Washington State Beef Commission Football Friday.
- 33:29Speaker 6: Greg Bell, Jackson Feltz joining you on KJR. Foggy, rainy,
- 33:36Speaker 6: misty Seattle. You just heard the weather report saying it
- 33:39Speaker 6: may clear up, at least stop raining. It may not
- 33:41Speaker 6: clear up to the sun, but stop raining for the Huskies.
- 33:44Speaker 6: Kickoff at 6 o'clock at Husky Stadium tonight against 20th
- 33:47Speaker 6: ranked Iowa. The Huskies trying to end their two-game Big
- 33:51Speaker 6: Ten losing streak in their second conference home game. I
- 33:54Speaker 6: think earlier I said Big Ten conference home opener. They
- 33:56Speaker 6: did play Minnesota. We're all trying to forget about that
- 33:59Speaker 6: late Saturday night game when they lost to the Gophers
- 34:01Speaker 6: at home. Tonight, the Hawkeyes come in. First time since 1963,
- 34:05Speaker 6: I heard Softee say yesterday, that Iowa has played inside
- 34:08Speaker 6: Husky Stadium. They played in Rose Bowls. But, yeah, that's
- 34:12Speaker 6: a while. 1963 is the last time Iowa played in Seattle.
- 34:18Speaker 4: Well, of course, they were in the Big Ten first
- 34:19Speaker 4: of the Pac-12 for all that time, Pac-8. The Seahawks,
- 34:24Speaker 4: of course, playing on Sunday. Supposed to be a decent
- 34:27Speaker 4: weather day for Seahawks 49ers for the NFC West lead.
- 34:29Speaker 1: It's a 125 kickoff to the Fox team. Late Sunday
- 34:32Speaker 1: window national TV.
- 34:33Speaker 6: Game with Kevin Burkhart, Tom Brady, Aaron Anders, and the
- 34:36Speaker 6: crew on the call from Lumen Field.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Dante McMillan.
- 34:42Speaker 4: Those of you in West Seattle, the Delridge neighborhood, and
- 34:45Speaker 4: Chiefs South High School community know about Dante McMillan. Maybe
- 34:49Speaker 4: you don't, but man is his story an incredibly difficult
- 34:54Speaker 4: story of obstacles that he's gone from West Seattle to
- 34:58Speaker 4: the NFL.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Dante McMillan.
- 35:02Speaker 4: Was born 24, now 25 years ago, to a mother
- 35:09Speaker 4: who was allegedly using drugs and a father who was
- 35:12Speaker 4: in prison.
- 35:13Speaker 1: And he was given a very low life.
- 35:15Speaker 6: He and his twin brother were given very low life
- 35:17Speaker 6: expectancies at birth for birth complications. They had learning disabilities.
- 35:23Speaker 6: There was a question whether they'd even get into high
- 35:25Speaker 6: school to advance that far. He spent a lot of
- 35:28Speaker 6: time in the Southwest Athletic Community Center across Thistle. Avenue
- 35:33Speaker 6: from chief South high school. And he was raised by
- 35:36Speaker 6: his grandmother who eventually legally adopted he and his twin brother, Jalen.
- 35:41Speaker 6: And when they were eight years old, she shepherded them
- 35:46Speaker 6: into high school at chief South high school, where he
- 35:49Speaker 6: blossomed on the football field to become, as I mentioned earlier,
- 35:51Speaker 6: a 2000 yard rusher with 44 rushing touchdowns as a senior,
- 35:55Speaker 6: not one in his career as a senior one season
- 35:58Speaker 6: that earned him a place at Weber state university. where
- 36:03Speaker 6: he was just taken in by a guy, a junior
- 36:07Speaker 6: wide receiver at Weber State by the name of Rashid Shahid,
- 36:11Speaker 6: who is now on the Seahawks, of course, as a
- 36:13Speaker 6: $ 51 million wide receiver. I asked him why he went
- 36:16Speaker 6: to Weber State, and McMillan said it was like a family.
- 36:19Speaker 6: It was like my second family. And in many ways,
- 36:21Speaker 6: it was his first family in Utah. And then he
- 36:25Speaker 6: found a coach at Eastern Michigan who that was even
- 36:27Speaker 6: more dedicated to him than he thought Weber States was,
- 36:30Speaker 6: that really believed in him. And he transferred to Eastern Michigan.
- 36:32Speaker 6: He became a 1,000-yard rusher for Eastern Michigan last year.
- 36:35Speaker 6: But no one in the NFL drafted him. But the
- 36:38Speaker 6: Baltimore Ravens signed him as an undrafted free agent, had
- 36:41Speaker 6: him in the entire training camp, released him on August 30th.
- 36:44Speaker 6: No one picked him up. He cleared waivers, and no
- 36:46Speaker 6: one put him on a practice squad. So Dante McMillan
- 36:48Speaker 6: came back home to Seattle, and he worked out with
- 36:50Speaker 6: Miles Gaskin, the former O'Day High School star, University of
- 36:53Speaker 6: Washington Husky star, who has played in the NFL before.
- 36:56Speaker 6: And most recently, the last team he had in October
- 36:58Speaker 6: was on the Seahawks practice squad back on his hometown team.
- 37:00Speaker 6: And Miles Gaskin and Dante McMillan worked out at Starfire
- 37:06Speaker 6: Complex down in Tukwila and the Ford Sports Performance in Tukwila.
- 37:10Speaker 6: That's when the Seahawks called this week and blew his mind.
- 37:14Speaker 6: He said it was out of nowhere. I know I've
- 37:16Speaker 6: rambled on long, but I wanted to give you some context.
- 37:18Speaker 6: This was Dante McMillan yesterday in the Seahawks locker room.
- 37:20Speaker 14: Honestly, just playing for my hometown is just a blessing.
- 37:24Speaker 10: I just feel like this.
- 37:25Speaker 14: It's all in God's hands and just each and every day,
- 37:28Speaker 14: just day two. So I'm just going to get better
- 37:29Speaker 14: every single day. So it's an honor to be here
- 37:31Speaker 14: representing my home, my home team and my community, my
- 37:34Speaker 14: last name.
- 37:35Speaker 1: How big of a dream was this growing up in
- 37:38Speaker 1: West Seattle?
- 37:39Speaker 14: So just honestly, it's a huge thing because I never
- 37:43Speaker 14: knew I was going to be here. You know, everything
- 37:44Speaker 14: happened so fast. So just honestly, just this happening is
- 37:47Speaker 14: just still mind blowing to me. You know what I'm saying?
- 37:49Speaker 14: So I'm just going to just embrace and be in
- 37:50Speaker 14: the moment.
- 37:51Speaker 6: Had they talked to you at all post their pre-draft
- 37:54Speaker 6: process or anything?
- 37:56Speaker 1: They did, yeah.
- 37:56Speaker 14: They did a local day and all that stuff, you know.
- 37:58Speaker 14: They really liked me a lot, you know. But, hey,
- 38:00Speaker 14: it's a business, you know.
- 38:00Speaker 10: Things change. Stuff happens, so, you know.
- 38:03Speaker 8: What were you doing then the last month or whatever?
- 38:05Speaker 14: I was just training. Just was ready for a call, man.
- 38:07Speaker 14: That's all I was doing every single day. Just getting
- 38:10Speaker 14: up in the morning at 6 a.m., training while I
- 38:11Speaker 14: was gasping, just doing my thing, you know.
- 38:13Speaker 8: Where were you guys doing that?
- 38:15Speaker 14: We were just doing that, like, when I first started
- 38:17Speaker 14: coming back out here from Baltimore.
- 38:19Speaker 8: He obviously spent some time here last year. What did
- 38:21Speaker 8: he tell you about it here?
- 38:22Speaker 1: Say it again?
- 38:23Speaker 8: Miles spent some time with the team last year.
- 38:25Speaker 9: What did he tell you.
- 38:25Speaker 2: About it here?
- 38:26Speaker 10: Honestly, he didn't really say much. I never asked him that.
- 38:28Speaker 14: All he was focused on was just me getting better
- 38:31Speaker 14: and just me being right for a call.
- 38:32Speaker 10: That's all.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Where were you working out? Here in Seattle?
- 38:35Speaker 14: I was working out in Seattle, yeah. I was working
- 38:36Speaker 14: out at Starfire and FSP, Horseball Performance.
- 38:39Speaker 1: At Starfire?
- 38:39Speaker 10: Just on your own? No, just with Miles Gaskin. Doing
- 38:42Speaker 10: field work and all that stuff.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Oh, on the fields.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Okay.
- 38:45Speaker 13: Chief Self obviously isn't known for producing a lot of
- 38:48Speaker 13: NFL football players and all that. During your years there,
- 38:50Speaker 13: I know you stayed there, and it's something you had
- 38:52Speaker 13: opportunities to go to other schools and things like that.
- 38:54Speaker 14: I chose not to do that because I want to
- 38:56Speaker 14: represent my community and just show kids that, like, no
- 38:59Speaker 14: matter where you're from, it can be a low-income community, whatever, like,
- 39:03Speaker 14: believe in yourself, like, just work hard, you know, because
- 39:05Speaker 14: that's what it's going to take, dedication, you know, hard work,
- 39:08Speaker 14: and just being confident in yourself.
- 39:10Speaker 13: And getting to this point now, I mean, you... I
- 39:12Speaker 13: guess how gratifying is that, kind of thinking about that journey?
- 39:14Speaker 10: And I've been waiting for this since I was a kid,
- 39:16Speaker 10: since I was eight years old, man.
- 39:17Speaker 14: I just feel like, you know, I was destined to
- 39:18Speaker 14: be in this moment, and I'm going to continue to
- 39:20Speaker 14: show that, you know.
- 39:21Speaker 10: I'm always going to be uncomfortable and never be comfortable.
- 39:24Speaker 6: Your journey, tell us how you got to Weber State
- 39:26Speaker 6: and then to Eastern.
- 39:28Speaker 14: So how high school was, you know. my first offer
- 39:30Speaker 14: was Oregon, you know, and then I had other big
- 39:32Speaker 14: schools reach out to me. You know, I feel like
- 39:34Speaker 14: Weber State just, they took me in as a family.
- 39:37Speaker 14: You know, I'm a family man, you know what I'm saying?
- 39:39Speaker 14: And so, you know, I connected with a lot of
- 39:41Speaker 14: people from there and relationships will always be, forever be
- 39:43Speaker 14: in my heart.
- 39:44Speaker 1: And then Eastern provided you an opportunity on a bigger stage?
- 39:47Speaker 10: Yeah, so Coach Creighton gave me an opportunity.
- 39:49Speaker 14: You know, he really helped me just honestly just know
- 39:52Speaker 14: that whatever in life you do, you always got to
- 39:54Speaker 14: work hard for what you want, and that's why I
- 39:56Speaker 14: learned being there.
- 39:57Speaker 1: How often do you get back to Chiefs South?
- 39:59Speaker 10: Do you come back? I was just there last week
- 40:01Speaker 10: for a football game.
- 40:01Speaker 14: You know, I try to stay in touch, you know,
- 40:03Speaker 14: with the team because I was a Chiefs South Seahawk myself,
- 40:05Speaker 14: you know, and I always tell them, like, hey, just
- 40:08Speaker 14: play football at the end of the day.
- 40:09Speaker 10: Like, don't overthink it. You've been playing this sport since
- 40:11Speaker 10: you was a little kid. You know, just.
- 40:13Speaker 14: Just do your thing out there. You know, they all
- 40:14Speaker 14: look up to me. You know what I'm saying? And
- 40:15Speaker 14: I'm always going to be there for them. You know,
- 40:17Speaker 14: I'm always going to be a Chiefs FCR, you know.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Had you connected with Rasheed at all through your time
- 40:21Speaker 1: at Weber?
- 40:22Speaker 10: Had you known him at any point?
- 40:23Speaker 14: Yeah, that's my dog, man. That's like a big brother
- 40:25Speaker 14: to me, man. I mean, my freshman year, I looked
- 40:28Speaker 14: up to him a lot, you know. And just me
- 40:30Speaker 14: being here with him, it's just crazy, you know.
- 40:32Speaker 10: And we're both very happy that we get to be
- 40:34Speaker 10: teammates again.
- 40:35Speaker 4: Has he told you anything about now that you're here?
- 40:38Speaker 14: All he told me was all he told me was
- 40:40Speaker 14: this is this play like you're a little kid and.
- 40:42Speaker 10: Just keep doing what i'm doing you know you know
- 40:44Speaker 10: so yeah.
- 40:45Speaker 13: So did the call come completely out of the blue
- 40:46Speaker 13: this week then about this or how did that kind.
- 40:49Speaker 14: Of evolve um yeah you can say that yeah it
- 40:51Speaker 14: did come yeah i was just like i was like.
- 40:53Speaker 10: I was just shocked you know what i'm saying but
- 40:55Speaker 10: i was happy at the same time.
- 40:55Speaker 8: So yeah so that was on monday or tuesday or
- 40:59Speaker 8: um i don't.
- 40:59Speaker 10: Remember the days okay i don't remember the days any.
- 41:02Speaker 13: Team calling i'm sure it'd be a big deal but
- 41:03Speaker 13: that it was seahawks your home down what does that mean.
- 41:08Speaker 14: I mean it's a lot of eyes um i just
- 41:10Speaker 14: know this is my community really just really just proud
- 41:13Speaker 14: of me you know my family you know friends everybody
- 41:16Speaker 14: in the.
- 41:16Speaker 13: West y'all community and your brother what is he doing
- 41:19Speaker 13: these days.
- 41:19Speaker 14: Or so he has my twin brother that's my dog
- 41:22Speaker 14: you know he has his own family you know he
- 41:24Speaker 14: works for union like he's doing everything he could just
- 41:25Speaker 14: to provide for himself, and do better for his life,
- 41:27Speaker 14: you know, so.
- 41:28Speaker 1: But you still live in here in Seattle?
- 41:30Speaker 10: Yes, sir.
- 41:31Speaker 8: When I talked to you yesterday, you mentioned your grandma.
- 41:34Speaker 10: What did she mean to you in your journey?
- 41:36Speaker 14: Man, that's my first love, man. Like, there's words can't
- 41:39Speaker 14: explain it, you know. She took care of my whole life.
- 41:41Speaker 10: You know. I didn't have my father or my mom
- 41:43Speaker 10: in my life. It was just her. Like, I learned
- 41:45Speaker 10: everything based off of her.
- 41:46Speaker 14: And, you know, she passed away in 2022 with liver cancer.
- 41:49Speaker 10: You know, she'd been fighting for, like, a couple years.
- 41:51Speaker 14: And so, you know, just me experiencing that, it was
- 41:53Speaker 14: a heartbreak, but at the same time that, She knew
- 41:56Speaker 14: that I was destined to be here in the NFL.
- 41:57Speaker 14: She knew that I was going to be successful. And
- 41:59Speaker 14: so I'm still going to make her proud every single day.
- 42:03Speaker 6: That was Dante McMillan, Chiefs South High School, West Seattle,
- 42:06Speaker 6: the Delridge neighborhood, High Point, talking about his grandmother, Vera
- 42:12Speaker 6: McMillan Jimerson, who was, you heard him say, my first love, man.
- 42:18Speaker 6: And then she passed away at 2022 at age 60
- 42:20Speaker 6: of liver cancer. To say Dante McMillan has gone through
- 42:26Speaker 6: something to get from West Seattle to the Seahawks building
- 42:29Speaker 6: and being at practice yesterday is an understatement.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Hats off to him.
- 42:34Speaker 6: Hats off to the Chiefs South, the Delridge, the High
- 42:36Speaker 6: Point community. Dante McMillan, a Seahawk, he's on the practice
- 42:39Speaker 6: squad as a running back at a position of need,
- 42:42Speaker 6: and he's home. That story's up at newstribune.com right now.
- 42:46Speaker 6: Up next, our high school football focus, our weekly one.
- 42:49Speaker 6: We're going to go to Aaron Maul, the head coach
- 42:51Speaker 6: of Seattle Prep High School in the Metro League.
- 42:54Speaker 4: And we'll also go to Mercer Island. Mason, those are
- 42:58Speaker 4: the 5-1 Mercer Island Islanders. Our high school football showcase
- 43:02Speaker 4: is next on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 43:06Speaker 3: Now back to the Washington State Beef Commission's Football Friday
- 43:10Speaker 3: with Greg Bell on your home for the NFL. Sports
- 43:14Speaker 3: Radio 93.3 KJR FM.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Welcome back to the show. We do every... Friday at
- 43:26Speaker 1: 11 a.m.
- 43:27Speaker 4: Just after we do our weekly high school football showcase.
- 43:31Speaker 4: And today it's Aaron Maul, coach of the Seattle Prep
- 43:34Speaker 4: High School, and Mason Azos, coach at Mercer Island High School.
- 43:38Speaker 1: They don't play each other.
- 43:39Speaker 6: Mercer Island actually played last night and are now 5-1,
- 43:42Speaker 6: coming off a win 34-0 over Kamiak. Seattle Prep actually
- 43:46Speaker 6: plays in like five hours. They have an early game,
- 43:49Speaker 6: 4 o'clock, against West Seattle. Is school off today or something, coach?
- 43:54Speaker 15: We're good.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Coach Aaron Maul joins us on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline.
- 43:58Speaker 6: I've had the pleasure of working his sidelines on quite
- 44:00Speaker 6: a few games I've officiated in the Metro League the
- 44:02Speaker 6: last couple seasons.
- 44:03Speaker 1: It's always a pleasure. And, Coach, I want to start
- 44:06Speaker 1: off the top.
- 44:06Speaker 6: The guy that helps coordinate these calls and features for me,
- 44:10Speaker 6: Dan Bean, a friend of yours and someone you've known,
- 44:12Speaker 6: a former high school coach in the area, official as well.
- 44:15Speaker 6: Of all the things he provided on notes for me,
- 44:17Speaker 6: at the very end he wrote, and a fierce competitor.
- 44:21Speaker 1: And he wrote that a couple times.
- 44:23Speaker 9: Ha, ha, ha.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Aaron, you know me on the sidelines a few times.
- 44:27Speaker 6: I've told you that there are some guys in our
- 44:30Speaker 6: officials association who think you give them more than a
- 44:34Speaker 6: pleasant time on the sidelines. So they'd rather not be
- 44:36Speaker 6: on your sidelines. I get a kick out of you
- 44:38Speaker 6: on the sidelines. I think it's great. You have passion
- 44:40Speaker 6: for your players, passion for the game. So what if
- 44:43Speaker 6: you challenge us a few times on why we're calling
- 44:45Speaker 6: what we're calling? Thanks for being on the show.
- 44:46Speaker 4: And how do you respond to a fierce competitor on
- 44:49Speaker 4: the sidelines and on the field?
- 44:52Speaker 15: Greg, I appreciate it. First, I want to say I
- 44:56Speaker 15: appreciate the work you do and you just being generous
- 45:00Speaker 15: with your time and being out there on Friday nights
- 45:02Speaker 15: to support high school football and to support our kids.
- 45:05Speaker 15: I think you do a fantastic job as well. So
- 45:08Speaker 15: to be honest with you, you kind of got me
- 45:10Speaker 15: in tears a little bit because you get me fired up.
- 45:15Speaker 15: Coach Bean, I'm going to refer to him as coach
- 45:18Speaker 15: from here now, but You know, he's worked with us
- 45:22Speaker 15: five or six years here at Seattle Prep as a
- 45:24Speaker 15: freshman coach and has since retired. But that fierce competitiveness,
- 45:29Speaker 15: I think, comes from just some people's shoulders who I
- 45:32Speaker 15: stand upon that have mentored me and helped me along
- 45:36Speaker 15: the way. And I think our kids and our staff
- 45:40Speaker 15: spend a lot of time trying to be really good
- 45:43Speaker 15: on Friday night. And I want to make sure that
- 45:46Speaker 15: I'm constantly protecting that work. and their investment and sacrifices
- 45:51Speaker 15: that they make. And I want to make sure that
- 45:53Speaker 15: we're held accountable as coaches. Our kids are held accountable
- 45:56Speaker 15: as kids. And the officials are held accountable for the
- 46:00Speaker 15: work that we all do. So I think that competitiveness
- 46:03Speaker 15: comes from a great passion for football, but a lot
- 46:07Speaker 15: of love for people as well.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Well said, sir.
- 46:09Speaker 4: Aaron Maul played quarterback and linebacker at Bellarmine Prep. for
- 46:12Speaker 4: Mike Baldass and then returned to coach under him down
- 46:16Speaker 4: in Tacoma. Then he was a starting linebacker in Central
- 46:18Speaker 4: Washington's 1995 NAIA Division II National Championship team, defensive captain
- 46:22Speaker 4: for the Wildcats in Central Washington in 1996. He returned
- 46:26Speaker 4: to Bellarmine as a teacher and a coach, including assistant
- 46:28Speaker 4: head coach, defensive coordinator. Spent six years as the head
- 46:31Speaker 4: coach at Bishop Lanchette. in the Metro League before now
- 46:34Speaker 4: at Seattle Prep. This is your life, Aaron Maul, because
- 46:38Speaker 4: we have Dan Bean on the phone.
- 46:39Speaker 1: With you right now. Go ahead, Coach Bean.
- 46:46Speaker 16: Well, you know, one of the things that I love
- 46:49Speaker 16: about what Coach Maul does at Prep, my biggest question is,
- 46:55Speaker 16: Prep is such a high.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Academic school, and it's small. And, you know, Prep competes
- 47:02Speaker 1: with the big dogs. How do you do it?
- 47:05Speaker 15: Yeah, I appreciate you recognizing that. Honestly, that's who I
- 47:10Speaker 15: am as a person, maybe aside from the high academic piece.
- 47:17Speaker 15: I would say just, you know, I've always been someone
- 47:20Speaker 15: that's had to have a chip on my shoulder to
- 47:23Speaker 15: be successful. And I think if we can give that
- 47:25Speaker 15: gift to our kids here at Prep, partnered with a
- 47:28Speaker 15: world-class education and an opportunity to be really competitive in athletics,
- 47:34Speaker 15: I feel like I'm at a really good place. So,
- 47:37Speaker 15: you know, I feel blessed to be around a bunch
- 47:40Speaker 15: of awesome kids, get a chance to mentor and coach
- 47:43Speaker 15: kids with an amazing coaching staff. And I'm at a
- 47:46Speaker 15: school that is mission driven. And that mission aligns with
- 47:50Speaker 15: who I am as a person, allows me to be
- 47:52Speaker 15: myself and do the work that I feel is really
- 47:55Speaker 15: important in the lives of young people and serving our
- 47:58Speaker 15: families in this community. And, you know, it's how do
- 48:02Speaker 15: we close the gap? and do things better than everyone else,
- 48:06Speaker 15: maybe in areas that other people aren't focusing on. So
- 48:09Speaker 15: other schools may be a little bit more football heavy
- 48:11Speaker 15: than us. That's okay. You know, I tell our kids
- 48:14Speaker 15: all the time, we don't have to fight them the
- 48:15Speaker 15: same way they want to fight us. Let's be unconventional,
- 48:17Speaker 15: do it another way, close the gap and go beat
- 48:20Speaker 15: people that maybe others don't think we're capable of beating.
- 48:23Speaker 6: Coach Aaron Mall, Seattle Prep, Metro League Coach of the Year.
- 48:26Speaker 6: A couple of seasons ago, he plays a high, fast-paced,
- 48:29Speaker 6: up-tempo spread offense and often takes it to a lot
- 48:33Speaker 6: of play. I did a game last year, officiated a
- 48:34Speaker 6: game where he was 14 up, 14-0 early on O'Day
- 48:37Speaker 6: over at West Seattle Stadium before O'Day rallied to win.
- 48:40Speaker 6: He joins us on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline, our high
- 48:42Speaker 6: school football showcase. Now, of all the experiences you've had,
- 48:45Speaker 6: Coach Maul, you've been a player, a national champion at
- 48:47Speaker 6: Central Washington, a teacher.
- 48:50Speaker 1: A coach.
- 48:52Speaker 6: I don't know if you're a parent or have experience
- 48:54Speaker 6: in raising your own children, but of all these life experiences,
- 48:57Speaker 6: what pointed you to being a coach of young men
- 48:59Speaker 6: and teenagers in our society?
- 49:02Speaker 15: Yeah, a little bit, a little bit of both. I
- 49:04Speaker 15: think I've had, so first of all, I was raised
- 49:06Speaker 15: by two amazing parents. I have awesome siblings. So I
- 49:11Speaker 15: think just the formation of family has been so pivotal
- 49:14Speaker 15: in my life. Really married to an amazing woman, have
- 49:18Speaker 15: incredible children of our own. So I think just the
- 49:22Speaker 15: family piece has been so formidable for me and really
- 49:26Speaker 15: trying to instill that in young people and use football
- 49:30Speaker 15: as a vehicle to do that. But I also was
- 49:33Speaker 15: coached by a Um, you know, I've had a negative experience, um,
- 49:38Speaker 15: you know, where I'm like, Hey, that's, that's not what
- 49:40Speaker 15: I want for kids. And that kind of opened my
- 49:42Speaker 15: eyes to a side of coaching that I want to
- 49:44Speaker 15: make sure I'm always aware of and protecting with our
- 49:47Speaker 15: staff as we get the chance to work with kids,
- 49:49Speaker 15: but played for an outstanding, uh, linebackers coach at central
- 49:53Speaker 15: Washington university, who, uh, is now the head coach down
- 49:56Speaker 15: at Subner high school and Keith Ross, uh, one of
- 49:58Speaker 15: my biggest mentors, um, and then working for Mike Baldesson, uh,
- 50:02Speaker 15: at Bellarmine Prep, was life-changing, amazing man. You know, he's
- 50:08Speaker 15: a product of Don James and Frosty Westering at POU
- 50:11Speaker 15: and kind of took the details of Don James and
- 50:15Speaker 15: the philosophy of Frosty. So I've just, I've been really lucky.
- 50:19Speaker 15: I mean, there's so many times in my life where
- 50:21Speaker 15: I find myself on the sidelines just kind of pinching
- 50:23Speaker 15: myself and looking up to the sky and saying, you know, God,
- 50:26Speaker 15: why did you choose me? And really, really blessed to
- 50:30Speaker 15: be able to do the work that I get to do.
- 50:32Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 50:33Speaker 6: Coach Aaron Maul is joining us, Seattle prep coach on
- 50:35Speaker 6: the Beacon Plumbing Hotline before his boys. They play in
- 50:38Speaker 6: five hours or so less than five hours against West Seattle.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Tell us about the game, the Metro League, how you
- 50:45Speaker 1: guys are shaping up.
- 50:46Speaker 6: You made the playoffs last year and advanced in a
- 50:49Speaker 6: first round playoff win. You're two and three heading into
- 50:51Speaker 6: a game against three and two West Seattle. What today
- 50:54Speaker 6: looks like with the Metro League shaken up for the Panthers?
- 50:58Speaker 15: Yeah, I appreciate it. So, I mean, you know, we
- 51:01Speaker 15: kind of have a mantra in our school where we
- 51:03Speaker 15: just say, or in our program, well, we want to
- 51:05Speaker 15: do it better than it's ever been done before. And
- 51:07Speaker 15: we're coming off, you know, round of 16. The year before,
- 51:11Speaker 15: we were a quarterfinals team. The year before that, again,
- 51:13Speaker 15: round of 16. And so we're just really aspiring, you know,
- 51:17Speaker 15: to play the best football that we can down the stretch.
- 51:20Speaker 15: We feel like the opportunity to play in the Metro
- 51:22Speaker 15: League really prepares us for that. Our losses right now
- 51:25Speaker 15: are to the number one, the number two, and the
- 51:26Speaker 15: number five ranked teams in the state, which if there's
- 51:30Speaker 15: such thing as a quality loss, I mean, I think
- 51:32Speaker 15: we got to learn through those experiences and make sure
- 51:35Speaker 15: we're playing our best football. And we have an opportunity
- 51:37Speaker 15: tonight to do that. So we'll have our hands full
- 51:40Speaker 15: with West Seattle. They're a good football team. They do
- 51:42Speaker 15: a great job. And we got to play our best
- 51:45Speaker 15: football tonight that we've played all year and really excited
- 51:48Speaker 15: about that opportunity and challenge for our kids. This 4
- 51:51Speaker 15: o'clock kickoff kind of threw a little bit of a
- 51:55Speaker 15: wrinkle in things. But, you know, we've got to do
- 51:57Speaker 15: a 4 o'clock kickoff better than anybody this week, and
- 52:00Speaker 15: that's the goal. So no excuses. Got to go out
- 52:03Speaker 15: and get it done and be our best tonight.
- 52:05Speaker 6: That's a 4 o'clock kickoff because of a shortage of
- 52:07Speaker 6: officials in the area. So if you're listening and you
- 52:09Speaker 6: want to be a football official, the PNFOA.org, you can
- 52:13Speaker 6: come join me and my colleagues on the sidelines.
- 52:15Speaker 1: Aaron Maul, I salute you.
- 52:17Speaker 6: As a West Point graduate and former Army officer, I
- 52:20Speaker 6: know the dedication it takes to lead young men, but
- 52:22Speaker 6: especially teenagers in today's society.
- 52:24Speaker 4: I know it's not for money. I know it's for
- 52:26Speaker 4: the love of the kids and the sport and the job.
- 52:28Speaker 6: And thank you. Thank you for all you do. I
- 52:31Speaker 6: can't wait to see you on the sideline again, and
- 52:32Speaker 6: good luck for the rest of the season.
- 52:35Speaker 15: Greg, I appreciate you having me on. And, again, I
- 52:37Speaker 15: want to say thank you to you because you do
- 52:39Speaker 15: a fantastic job. And I also got to say thanks
- 52:42Speaker 15: to Coach Bean because that guy's played a big time
- 52:44Speaker 15: role in my formation as well. So thank you, gentlemen.
- 52:46Speaker 1: I appreciate it. Good luck to Seattle Prep. Shout out
- 52:49Speaker 1: to your wife. It's her birthday today. There you go.
- 52:53Speaker 15: Happy birthday, Lena.
- 52:55Speaker 1: Aaron Maul, Seattle Prep. Thank you, sir. Good luck to
- 52:57Speaker 1: Seattle Prep in the rest of the season. And now
- 53:00Speaker 1: to Mercer Island.
- 53:02Speaker 4: Where Mercer Island High School football team is 5-1 after
- 53:05Speaker 4: a 34-0 win at home last night over Kamiak. The
- 53:10Speaker 4: head coach is Mason Azos, and he has a separate,
- 53:14Speaker 4: different path to his job at Mercer Island. Never played
- 53:18Speaker 4: varsity football, built his coaching experience in the Greater Eastside
- 53:21Speaker 4: Junior Football Association, including championships with 6th and 7th graders.
- 53:25Speaker 6: The league mirrors the King Co. that Mercer Island is in.
- 53:29Speaker 6: Before his current high school role, He never coached at
- 53:31Speaker 6: the high school level. His previous experience had topped out
- 53:34Speaker 6: at the JV division of the Greater East Side Junior
- 53:37Speaker 6: Football Association. His team has just one loss, as I said,
- 53:41Speaker 6: and that was against Steve Valich's Liberty team. Joining us
- 53:45Speaker 6: on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline, Mason Azos, fresh off a
- 53:47Speaker 6: win last night for the Islanders.
- 53:48Speaker 1: Hello, sir, and thanks for joining us on KJR.
- 53:52Speaker 4: Hey, thank you guys for having me on. I'm really
- 53:54Speaker 4: excited to be here.
- 53:56Speaker 6: Tell us how it went last night. I mean, it
- 53:57Speaker 6: sounds like your defense pitching a shutout. Your offense putting
- 54:01Speaker 6: up 34. That must have been a reviving win in
- 54:04Speaker 6: the middle of the season.
- 54:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, anytime that you have an opportunity to
- 54:09Speaker 4: get lots of guys minutes and different guys the ball
- 54:13Speaker 4: and get multiple people in the end zone, it feels
- 54:15Speaker 4: really good, especially in a small community where, you know,
- 54:19Speaker 4: football is something that families go and watch on Fridays.
- 54:24Speaker 4: they bring their relatives, their grandparents, sisters, brothers, girlfriends, the
- 54:28Speaker 4: whole thing, you know, giving a bunch of kids that light,
- 54:32Speaker 4: that spotlight that, you know, maybe in a, in a
- 54:34Speaker 4: Liberty game, you know, a close game that they wouldn't
- 54:36Speaker 4: be able to get is really special. So I was
- 54:39Speaker 4: really proud of the fact that we got a lot
- 54:41Speaker 4: of guys, the ball yesterday.
- 54:44Speaker 6: How did you get into coaching, sir? And, and the
- 54:47Speaker 6: youth level and what prompted you, what was your input? What,
- 54:50Speaker 6: why did you want to do that?
- 54:52Speaker 4: Yeah, you're opening up a can of worms. So, you know,
- 54:55Speaker 4: my so my my athletics career ended quietly and unceremoniously.
- 55:01Speaker 4: Like there was no senior night, no flowers in the
- 55:04Speaker 4: field that just ended. I wasn't good enough. Just call
- 55:07Speaker 4: it what it is. But I was lucky enough to
- 55:10Speaker 4: have coaches along the way that really believed in me. um,
- 55:14Speaker 4: and I want to make sure I recognize them. One
- 55:16Speaker 4: of them was, was coach Ron Cohn, who coached me
- 55:19Speaker 4: in basketball. I was, I was a basketball player. I
- 55:20Speaker 4: wasn't a football player. And the other one was, was
- 55:22Speaker 4: a coach Gary Barnett, who's no longer with us. So
- 55:24Speaker 4: I'll stay on the football track, but, um, You know,
- 55:27Speaker 4: I was working an odd job, you know, around the summer.
- 55:30Speaker 4: I was refereeing football and umpiring baseball. And one day
- 55:35Speaker 4: I'm umpiring next to my old high school coach or
- 55:39Speaker 4: freshman team coach. And he goes, you know, what are
- 55:42Speaker 4: you doing during football season this year? I said, I
- 55:43Speaker 4: don't know. I'm not doing anything.
- 55:45Speaker 1: I'm going to go work. He goes, okay, sounds good.
- 55:47Speaker 4: You're coaching with me.
- 55:48Speaker 1: I said, what?
- 55:49Speaker 4: I'm coaching with you? He goes, yeah, you're coaching with me.
- 55:52Speaker 4: I said, okay, all right. It looks like I'm coaching
- 55:54Speaker 4: with you. And so when I think about– that as
- 55:58Speaker 4: a kind of a pivotal formation in my life, it
- 56:00Speaker 4: really drove me to, to go into coaching to, you know,
- 56:04Speaker 4: affect kids the way that coach Gary affected me and
- 56:08Speaker 4: giving me an opportunity to, to pursue something that I
- 56:11Speaker 4: love and that I, or maybe that I didn't even
- 56:13Speaker 4: know that I loved at the time. So I got
- 56:14Speaker 4: into coaching through, through coach Gary and continued. Once I
- 56:17Speaker 4: moved back from college, uh, coach Gary had a coach
- 56:20Speaker 4: on his staff, Ross Heisey, and, uh, coach Ross is
- 56:23Speaker 4: now one of my best friends and he's coached with
- 56:25Speaker 4: me from the beginning of the, from the beginning of
- 56:27Speaker 4: my coaching career in 2017 coached with me all the
- 56:30Speaker 4: way up, uh, since. And, uh, yeah, I, I coached
- 56:33Speaker 4: youth ball and was part of the board and was
- 56:36Speaker 4: really involved in the community. And ultimately, you know, I
- 56:40Speaker 4: got a text before the season from, from DJ Mims,
- 56:43Speaker 4: who was the former coach. He said, just go for it,
- 56:44Speaker 4: just apply. And, and I did. And, and, you know,
- 56:49Speaker 4: part of building trust in the community and, and really
- 56:52Speaker 4: being a part of the growth of the youth program drove, uh,
- 56:55Speaker 4: I believe the community and the school's decision to hire
- 56:58Speaker 4: me on despite never being, never playing, never being a
- 57:01Speaker 4: great athlete, um, and, and, and never, you know, coaching
- 57:05Speaker 4: at the high school level.
- 57:07Speaker 6: And retired coach Dan Bean is on the phone with us.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Coach, go ahead. Hey, Mason.
- 57:13Speaker 16: Um, so tell me what the biggest difference, we talked
- 57:16Speaker 16: about this before you, uh, before the season started what's
- 57:19Speaker 16: good what's the biggest change what's the biggest adjustment you've
- 57:23Speaker 16: made from coaching youth football to now the high school.
- 57:27Speaker 4: You know it's funny you ask that because I think
- 57:30Speaker 4: about this all the time when I'm you know watching
- 57:32Speaker 4: film and I'm game planning and you know I just
- 57:36Speaker 4: so it's I think to myself sometimes it's just football
- 57:39Speaker 4: it's just.
- 57:39Speaker 1: Teaching it's.
- 57:42Speaker 4: And yeah, the level of detail increases and the level
- 57:44Speaker 4: of game planning increases. But at the end of the day,
- 57:47Speaker 4: it's just football and it's just teaching. And you're just
- 57:50Speaker 4: trying to get these kids to believe in themselves. You're
- 57:52Speaker 4: trying to teach confidence, accountability, teamwork, have a culture of
- 57:56Speaker 4: earning it.
- 57:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 57:58Speaker 4: And the difference is the level of detail. But at
- 58:01Speaker 4: the end of the day, the core root of what
- 58:03Speaker 4: we're doing is we're being educators and we're teaching these young,
- 58:06Speaker 4: you know, these kids how to be, you know, better
- 58:09Speaker 4: young men.
- 58:09Speaker 1: That's the difference.
- 58:11Speaker 4: More responsibility.
- 58:13Speaker 6: Love the teaching aspect, Coach. That's exactly what we hope
- 58:17Speaker 6: that the youth and sports athletics and the experience of
- 58:21Speaker 6: preparing young men and young women for the rest of
- 58:24Speaker 6: their lives.
- 58:24Speaker 1: And that's great. That's off to you.
- 58:27Speaker 6: Now about your season. 5-1 after the win over Kamiak
- 58:29Speaker 6: last night. You got Interlake next week. You close out
- 58:33Speaker 6: the regular season against Newport High School in a league game.
- 58:36Speaker 1: And then at a 5-1 clip and at the top
- 58:38Speaker 1: of your division in the King Co.
- 58:40Speaker 4: It looks like playoffs and whatnot. I don't want to
- 58:44Speaker 4: get ahead of yourself because I know you have a week-to-week.
- 58:46Speaker 6: Job, but what's the excitement among the kids in the community?
- 58:51Speaker 6: You mentioned how it's a small community program that people
- 58:53Speaker 6: come out to turn out for. They must be pretty
- 58:55Speaker 6: excited about Mercer Island being 5-1.
- 58:59Speaker 4: Well, it's palpable. I gauge everything by how my mom
- 59:03Speaker 4: reacts to people approaching her at the South End QFC.
- 59:07Speaker 4: you know, if you're from Mercer Island, I should say
- 59:09Speaker 4: it's the South end Q that totally dated me as a,
- 59:12Speaker 4: as a non Islander now. But, um, when, when people
- 59:15Speaker 4: approach my mom at the South end Q and they're
- 59:17Speaker 4: excited and, And they're talking about football. And my grandma comes,
- 59:22Speaker 4: you know, text me and she says, I saw all
- 59:24Speaker 4: these boys wearing their their little youth football jerseys. They
- 59:27Speaker 4: seem so excited. They're running around throwing the fake football,
- 59:31Speaker 4: the little Nerf footballs. You know, there's a palpable energy
- 59:35Speaker 4: in a small community when. People see that you're doing
- 59:38Speaker 4: things the right way. And then the output of that
- 59:42Speaker 4: is a winning record. The process and getting the community involved,
- 59:47Speaker 4: that's the fun part. So, I mean, you hit it
- 59:49Speaker 4: on the head. There's a lot of energy and it's
- 59:51Speaker 4: really palpable. And regardless of the outcome on the field,
- 59:56Speaker 4: this is a long-term project. This is something that's near
- 59:59Speaker 4: and dear to me because Mercer Island football has been
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: a home for me to build my, my confidence and,
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: and as a, as a man and, and as a
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: young man. And, uh, and so feeling that, man, it's, it's,
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: there's a lot of energy in the, on the Island.
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: You feel it when you're at the games.
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: Mason Azaz, I appreciate you for what you do for
- 1:00:16Speaker 6: what do you do for our youth and leading young
- 1:00:18Speaker 6: men into adulthood, preparing them for life and good luck
- 1:00:22Speaker 6: to Mercer Island. Have a great rest of the season.
- 1:00:24Speaker 6: Thanks for joining us on KJR.
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: Yeah, thanks, guys.
- 1:00:28Speaker 8: Appreciate it.
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: Mason Azos has Mercer Island and the Islanders 5-1 after
- 1:00:32Speaker 6: their win last night over Kamiak.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: Our weekly high school football showcase. And, hey, look, I
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: get it. Every week we do this.
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: We get the text line, people going in, wow, riveting radio, Greg,
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: high school football.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: And if you don't have kids or if you don't
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: have a heart or if you don't see the bigger
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: picture beyond just the games of high school football on
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: a Friday night, that's you. We're in a city that
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: has the University of Washington Big Ten program, the Mariners,
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: the Huskies, the Sonics coming back, the Kraken, the Seahawks,
- 1:01:02Speaker 6: and they get all of it.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: And we know that.
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: But there is a large segment of our community that
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: is really devoted to helping young men and women become
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: great products for society. And it often starts on the
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: athletic fields when they're four and five years old. And
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: these coaches do it for peanuts. I mean, the hours
- 1:01:21Speaker 6: they put in on top of hours on top of
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: hours and bus rides and practices and washing jerseys and
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: uniforms and coordinating fields and practice times with other teams
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: for a pittance. I mean, it's like pennies on the hour.
- 1:01:34Speaker 6: And that's what we're trying to showcase and highlight here.
- 1:01:36Speaker 6: So if it's not for you, well, change the channel.
- 1:01:37Speaker 6: I'm not making you listen to it. But I think
- 1:01:39Speaker 6: it's pretty cool to highlight those who are really helping
- 1:01:41Speaker 6: young men and women in our society. And we'll continue
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: to do it every Friday on a Washington State Beef
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: Commission football Friday. Up next, your chance to be a
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: part of the show.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: Good or bad. We're equal opportunity here. I might call
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: you out if it's really bad. And we have talkbacks.
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: Jackson's going to fill in for Jessamyn. Playback talkbacks next.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: 1135 Factor Fiction, your last chance of the week to
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: win $ 1, 000 from the Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel on
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: 93.3 KJR FM.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: Now back to the Washington State Beef Commission's Football Friday
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: with Greg Bell on your home for the NFL.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: Sports Radio 93.3 KJR FM.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: AG Bell.
- 1:02:18Speaker 17: It's Jordan in Tacoma.
- 1:02:19Speaker 15: I've texted in a couple times.
- 1:02:20Speaker 17: I just want to say I appreciate what you do
- 1:02:21Speaker 17: as far as not only the human interest stories, like
- 1:02:25Speaker 17: this new Seahawks practice squad running back from Chief Self.
- 1:02:28Speaker 17: That's amazing. And then the high school stuff. It's really important,
- 1:02:33Speaker 17: and it's so cool the way you're approaching it and
- 1:02:34Speaker 17: getting it out there. From a former high school athlete,
- 1:02:37Speaker 17: you know, It's cool to see. I just want to
- 1:02:40Speaker 17: say thank you.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: D-Bell, my guy, Joel here. Got a question on a Friday, sir.
- 1:02:45Speaker 18: Do you think if you put Jed Fish and Jerry
- 1:02:48Speaker 18: DePoto in a room, they wouldn't even talk? They would
- 1:02:51Speaker 18: just stare at each other with their iPads and come
- 1:02:54Speaker 18: up with in-game exclusive strategies?
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:02:58Speaker 18: Just something I've been thinking about lately.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: I feel like there would be no words discussed. Just
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: a lot of staring, hair gel, and iPads. Have a
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: good Friday.
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Go Army.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: Beat Navy, sir. Appreciate that. Harvey, beat Navy. Appreciate that.
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: I have other questions off the text line. 49451 at
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: the Coma Dodge text line. Thanks for the talk back.
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: So we'll play them back. Like I said, there's a
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: pretty low bar, although it sounds like Jackson had a
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: little more discerning here than.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: There's a few. I like those two the most, especially. See,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Jessamyn would play them all. And really, I love.
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: The imagery in your head of Jerry DiPoto and Jed
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: Fish sitting together.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: That gives a very fun image in my brain.
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: That's a nightmare for some people.
- 1:03:43Speaker 6: 253 on the Tacoma Dodge text line, 49451. Is Leonard
- 1:03:46Speaker 6: Williams playing against the 49ers this week? And we started
- 1:03:48Speaker 6: the show talking about that, but that's okay. I'm going
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: to reiterate, and it's fine.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: 1 p.m.
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: Or so is when the injury report comes out, but
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: it was a step back yesterday that he didn't practice
- 1:03:56Speaker 6: at all. He practiced limited. I saw him jogging onto
- 1:03:59Speaker 6: the field on Wednesday, and to me it looked like
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: he was full good. Everything looked normal. He's laughing, joking around, stretching.
- 1:04:04Speaker 6: We only get to stay the first five or ten
- 1:04:06Speaker 6: minutes of practice, then they shoo us away for the
- 1:04:08Speaker 6: actual meat of the practice.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: But he didn't practice yesterday at all. We'll see today.
- 1:04:13Speaker 6: It's not that he has to practice on a Thursday,
- 1:04:15Speaker 6: but Jackson, after a guy practices on Wednesday following an injury,
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: when they don't practice on Thursday, that's usually not a
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: good sign.
- 1:04:21Speaker 5: If he's limited again today, which would, I mean, if
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: we're talking about one of the most likely situations, I mean,
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: if he doesn't practice, then it's disaster and suddenly the
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: whole town is burning. Limited feels like it's a more
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: likely than not thing.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Yes. And at that point, right, I mean.
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: I just, it'd be, it'd be, it'd be massively surprising
- 1:04:47Speaker 5: if he's full participation.
- 1:04:49Speaker 14: Right.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: So I think he'll be listed as questionable.
- 1:04:51Speaker 6: And then I think this will be a game, one
- 1:04:52Speaker 6: of those typical game time decisions, plus to keep the
- 1:04:54Speaker 6: 49ers guessing, but he's 32 going on 33. He doesn't need,
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: he's in 12th year. It doesn't look like he has
- 1:04:59Speaker 6: to practice, but yeah, we'll see if he's on the
- 1:05:02Speaker 6: field at all. Hey, you want to win a thousand dollars.
- 1:05:05Speaker 6: Your chances right now on factor fiction. We're set to go.
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: Glad you're with us.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: It's your shot at our weekly thousand bucks and the
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: $ 10, 000 grand prize.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: It's fact or fiction.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: Proudly presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel, where every
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: day feels lucky.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Fact or fiction is on.
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: Sports Radio 93.3 KJR FM.
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: All right, I've waited the entire week to do this.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: You knew it was coming. Thank you, Jackson. You found it.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: On Brave Old Army.
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: Team, the Army team, the pride and dream of every
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: heart and gray, the Knights of the Hudson River. They
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: are playing host to Tulane tomorrow, 9 a.m. in Mikey
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: Stadium in West Point, New York. Army coming off a
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: bitterly close two-point loss at Louisiana Tech. The Green Wave
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: of Tulane, 2-2. They lost 17-3 in their opener at Duke.
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: They lost 31-20 at Kansas State. The Green Wave have
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: beaten South Alabama 28-24 and last week's Southern Mississippi 24-21.
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: It's a big league game here for Army to try
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: to get back near the top of the standings. They're
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: favored by 3.5 at home in the American Conference game.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: They're also the over-under's 48.5. I get burned lately by going.
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: The Army in the under, the old standby, that's what
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: we did last week, Jackson. We lost because it was 31-29.
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: That 60-point Army game is unusual.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: So I'm kind of torn.
- 1:06:34Speaker 6: Whether we go to 3.5, lay the 3.5 and beat
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: Tulane by four or more, or total points of under 48.5.
- 1:06:40Speaker 10: Gimme!
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: Give me the old standby. Give me Army and under.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Take Army and the under.
- 1:06:49Speaker 6: We'll go Army and Tulane under 48 and a half points.
- 1:06:52Speaker 6: The number of three points that Tulane got on the
- 1:06:55Speaker 6: road at Duke is sticking out to me right now.
- 1:06:58Speaker 6: Army and Tulane under 48 and a half points. If
- 1:07:00Speaker 6: you agree, text FACT to 49451. In other words, if
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: you want to win $ 1, 000, text FACT to 49451. If
- 1:07:03Speaker 6: you don't want to win $ 1, 000, text FIX into 49451.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: You have 12 minutes.
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: And this is the last one of the week, because
- 1:07:12Speaker 6: the Husky Honks are starting the Husky pregame show at
- 1:07:14Speaker 6: 2 o'clock, so no 235 and no 335 factor fictions today.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: This is it.
- 1:07:20Speaker 6: This is the last chance of the week to win $ 1, 000.
- 1:07:22Speaker 6: All you have to do is win once this week,
- 1:07:24Speaker 6: and then Anderson Hurst will draw your name out. Of
- 1:07:27Speaker 6: all the winners, the name will go into a hat.
- 1:07:29Speaker 6: Anderson Hurst will draw one name out. That'll be the winner.
- 1:07:32Speaker 6: on Monday of $ 1, 000 from the Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel.
- 1:07:37Speaker 6: And then remember, it behooves you to play as many
- 1:07:39Speaker 6: times as you can each week because whoever wins the
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: most times between now and Army-Navy Friday, December 11th, when
- 1:07:44Speaker 6: Justin McIntyre and I are broadcasting live on KJR from
- 1:07:47Speaker 6: Times Square, where the Army-Navy game will be at the
- 1:07:50Speaker 6: Meadowlands the next day, the winner by December 11th with
- 1:07:52Speaker 6: the most wins will win $ 10, 000, 10 large, from Lucky
- 1:07:55Speaker 6: Eagle Casino Hotel. Army and Tulane, under 48.5 points, and
- 1:08:00Speaker 6: it heartens me that Jackson Feltz is playing the army
- 1:08:03Speaker 6: fight song.
- 1:08:03Speaker 5: Well, I mean, here's the thing, Greg, is that if
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: I was going to be very selfish and only play
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: for the Dave Softy Mahler and Dick Fink extravaganza, I
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: would have said you should play the three and a half.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:08:15Speaker 8: Why?
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: Uh, because I love the under, and I think you're
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: going to nail this. You know, it's funny. Unders are
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: my specialty. I'm not sure if you're doing this. No,
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: I'm not. I always choose an under on Wednesdays when I,
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: when I do my picks. I didn't know that. That
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: is my whole, you know, bit, uh, and three and
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: one this year on the under. I was going to
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: say you're successful.
- 1:08:31Speaker 5: It's, Unders, unders, unders, and this under is, I'm feeling
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: this under.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: I feel heartened by that, too. The song and your
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: backing of the pick. Thank you. Take the win and
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: enjoy it. That's right.
- 1:08:43Speaker 6: Take your chance for $ 1, 000 by taking back the 49451.
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: You have about until 1150 or so on that. Let's
- 1:08:49Speaker 6: go back to the text line, 49451. Thanks for the
- 1:08:52Speaker 6: on Brave Old Army team, by the way. I heard
- 1:08:53Speaker 6: that in my sleep for four years. I attended every
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: Army home football game for four years and every army
- 1:08:59Speaker 6: navy game because it's mandatory a couple of away games
- 1:09:02Speaker 6: too somebody on the text line i don't know exactly
- 1:09:05Speaker 6: where it is because i can't find it exactly verbatim
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: but someone said would i please highlight how important it
- 1:09:11Speaker 6: is to officiate and get into officiating with the shortage
- 1:09:14Speaker 6: of officiate here it is 360 Greg, could you please
- 1:09:17Speaker 6: tell people how fulfilling officiating is, the benefits of it,
- 1:09:20Speaker 6: especially at the youth level, up to high school? As
- 1:09:24Speaker 6: a former high school football official, and as you know,
- 1:09:26Speaker 6: we need officials. Please let people know about how fulfilling
- 1:09:30Speaker 6: it is, knowing that you're helping the youth of America.
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: Aaron Maul and Seattle Prep are playing at 4 o'clock
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: this afternoon because of an officiating shortage. They had to
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: move the game from 7 o'clock against West Seattle to
- 1:09:40Speaker 6: 4 o'clock so that officials could officiate that game and
- 1:09:43Speaker 6: then go to a 7 o'clock game nearby. I'll be
- 1:09:47Speaker 6: at Eastlake High School tonight. I'm officiating on the sidelines,
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: a side judge, a linesman.
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: For Eastlake hosting Mount Si.
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: Mount Si is at the top of their division in
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: the King Cove.
- 1:09:58Speaker 6: It's going to be a showdown, King 5 National Game,
- 1:10:01Speaker 6: or National, the local high school football game of the
- 1:10:03Speaker 6: week from King 5 tonight. Go to pnfoa.org if you
- 1:10:07Speaker 6: want to join officiating in the greater Seattle area.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Snohomish County has another one.
- 1:10:12Speaker 6: I actually began my officiating career when I was in
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: the Army at Fort Lewis down in Olympia where I lived.
- 1:10:17Speaker 6: There's an association down in Olympia. We went all the
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: way out to the coast.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: Grays Harbor.
- 1:10:23Speaker 6: My first varsity football game on a Friday night, Jackson,
- 1:10:25Speaker 6: as an official, was an eight-man football game in Oakville.
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: What?
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: You know where that is?
- 1:10:30Speaker 10: No.
- 1:10:30Speaker 6: Oakville's down east of I-5 and down below Centralia, around
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: Centralia area.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Okay. A little bit east of— Today I learned. Yeah.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: A little bit east of Great Wolf Lodge, if you
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: know where that is, along I-5, halfway between Portland and Seattle.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: I did an eight-man football game on Friday night.
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: It was packed, and they played on a 100-yard regular-sized football.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: Field, eight-on-eight. And it was like arena ball. It was crazy.
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: It was 56-42, and man, it was like pinball.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: And it was my first varsity game. I was like, wow,
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: this is amazing. Is that just because they don't have
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: the necessary people to fill?
- 1:11:05Speaker 6: Yeah, enrollment and 1B, I think the classification was at
- 1:11:09Speaker 6: the time. Eight-man football. Those of you who are maybe
- 1:11:12Speaker 6: from smaller towns in Washington know what I'm talking about,
- 1:11:15Speaker 6: about eight-man football.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: It was wild.
- 1:11:17Speaker 6: But PNFOA.com. Go there, and you can join us.
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: The Pacific Northwest Football Officials Association.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: And you can be an official to help out. And
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: it is. It's great. I talk to the players during
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: the game. I ask them how school's going. I mean,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: they're intense. It's Friday night. But I have a great
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: time with them. The coaches.
- 1:11:39Speaker 6: I'm trying to get out of it more like when
- 1:11:41Speaker 6: I'm a head referee for games, I go in and
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: the captains and they're, you know, they're all going.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: To kill each other.
- 1:11:48Speaker 6: And all these, some of these officials, these referees will
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: go in and have this big long spiel. And the
- 1:11:52Speaker 6: players aren't remembering any of this. They're trying to get
- 1:11:54Speaker 6: ready for when they want to kick off and get going.
- 1:11:57Speaker 6: All I do is I look at him and say,
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: do you know what good and bad is?
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: And they all look at me or what? Then I said,
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: do you know what bad is? And they go, yeah.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: I just say, okay, tonight, fellas, don't do anything bad.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: And then we flip the coin.
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: I learned that from Sam Moriana, my referee down in
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: California in the Bay Area when I.
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: Was in the East Bay Football Association. I did a
- 1:12:17Speaker 6: couple of North Coast section championship games. I refereed Marshawn
- 1:12:19Speaker 6: Lynch's games at Oakland Tech. Ken Dorsey out at Orinda
- 1:12:22Speaker 6: High School. Dennis Dixon down in San Leandro High School
- 1:12:25Speaker 6: back in the day, the Oregon quarterback who ended up
- 1:12:26Speaker 6: playing in the NFL.
- 1:12:27Speaker 15: Oh, yeah.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: He won a Super Bowl ring with the Steelers. Those guys.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: And I have all kinds of stories at Oakland.
- 1:12:33Speaker 6: There was once a police helicopter landed on the field
- 1:12:35Speaker 6: during an Oakland Athletic League playoff game that ended the
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: game because of a fight.
- 1:12:39Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I have some officiating stories. But, yeah, I just
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: say don't do anything bad. A lot of bad happened
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: in that play.
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: I was going to say, you're saying that to high schoolers.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: High schoolers, don't do anything bad. That's a challenge, sir.
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: Pacific Northwest Football Officials Association. It's a trip. It is
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: so rewarding to deal with our young men. And it's awesome.
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: It really is a great time. I have a blast
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: doing it. I'm really looking forward to tonight's game as well.
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: Up next, Ian Furness will tell us what he's got
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: going on from 12 until 3. You've got about seven,
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: eight more minutes left for our Fact or Fiction pick,
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: the final one of the week. My boys, Army, the
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: Black Knights, and Tulane combining 48.5, the under. I say
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: they're going to score 48 or fewer points if you agree,
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: text FACT to 49451. If you disagree, text FICTION to 49451.
- 1:13:25Speaker 6: And Ian's going to tell us what he's got next
- 1:13:27Speaker 6: on our Washington State Beef Commission Football Friday.
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: Now back to the Washington State Beef Commission's Football Friday
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: with Greg Bell.
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: On your home.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: Trading not available in all jurisdictions. Restrictions and eligibility apply. CalSheet.
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: Trade on anything. Now back to.
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: The Washington State Beef Commission's Football Friday with Greg.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: Friday? To recap, we've got UW and 23rd Iowa.

- 1:14:12Speaker 6: The Kraken are playing in Detroit against the Red Wings,

- 1:14:47Speaker 6: And then the Ravens at Falcons, the Sunday night game
- 1:14:49Speaker 6: you just heard Lamar Jackson not playing. Michael Penick sure
- 1:14:53Speaker 6: is in Atlanta, home game against Baltimore. That's Sunday night
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: at 520. Then Monday night we get Bills at Rams
- 1:14:58Speaker 6: at 520. Just recapping real quick, if you want to
- 1:15:01Speaker 6: join a football official, I had someone say I'm 26.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Is that weird?
- 1:15:04Speaker 6: Hell no. We've got my 23-year-old son does it with me.
- 1:15:07Speaker 6: That's how I got back into it last year. We
- 1:15:09Speaker 6: have a high school kid doing it for us. But
- 1:15:11Speaker 6: a lot of us are 50 and older, like I am.
- 1:15:13Speaker 6: We need young officials.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: So please join.
- 1:15:16Speaker 6: PNFOA.com if you live in King County, Seattle Metro. If
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: you live up in Snohomish County, you can join a
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: very great association, the Snohomish County Football Association.
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: It's scfoa.org.
- 1:15:28Speaker 6: And down in South Sound, thanks for those texting in
- 1:15:32Speaker 6: about the South Sound as well. WWFOA, Western Washington Football Association.org.
- 1:15:38Speaker 6: WWFOA.org is the group in the South Sound of the
- 1:15:40Speaker 6: Tacoma Puyallup area.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:15:44Speaker 6: Going out to UW and the Kraken studios that are
- 1:15:47Speaker 6: at the University of Washington is a coug.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: Ian Furness, he joins us. Tell us what he's got
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: going on. You're infiltrating. I'm here.
- 1:15:57Speaker 9: I'm behind enemy lines right now. That's what we're doing.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: Very uncomfortable.
- 1:16:03Speaker 9: A lot of purple out here. A lot of purple.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: A lot of purple. Already massing for the game. Where
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: are those? Is it in graves or is it in
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: the bottom of the stadium?
- 1:16:10Speaker 9: No, so what they did is they built.
- 1:16:13Speaker 19: you know, the big 10 network or the big, yeah,
- 1:16:16Speaker 19: the big, the big 10, um, requires that every school has, um,
- 1:16:21Speaker 19: basically four or five control rooms and, uh, a studio and,
- 1:16:26Speaker 19: you know, state-of-the-art equipment set up. And so they built
- 1:16:28Speaker 19: that out and they actually use the old, uh, practice
- 1:16:31Speaker 19: court since they built the new practice facility here.
- 1:16:33Speaker 9: And so I, like, I look out, I can see
- 1:16:35Speaker 9: the concourse of heck head.
- 1:16:36Speaker 19: From 20 feet away and, uh, state-of-the-art studios and, and
- 1:16:40Speaker 19: control rooms and away we go. So yeah, we're utilizing
- 1:16:43Speaker 19: that this year. And this is our, this is our
- 1:16:45Speaker 19: home when the Kraken are on the road.
- 1:16:48Speaker 6: And the Kraken have a five game trip to starts
- 1:16:49Speaker 6: against Detroit tonight. Kind of a long trip for this
- 1:16:53Speaker 6: early in the season. No, I know West coast teams
- 1:16:55Speaker 6: though are subject to that more than a lot of
- 1:16:56Speaker 6: the East coast teams.
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:16:58Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:16:59Speaker 19: I think I want to say they did it fair.
- 1:17:01Speaker 19: They had a fairly early trip last year too. I'm
- 1:17:04Speaker 19: not really sure, but yeah, I mean, it's, you know,
- 1:17:06Speaker 19: you got, it's a, it's an interesting five gamer. I mean,
- 1:17:09Speaker 19: there's a couple that you probably really need to try
- 1:17:11Speaker 19: to get tonight would be one Philadelphia would be the other, uh,
- 1:17:15Speaker 19: you know, Washington on Sunday is a tough one. So is,
- 1:17:18Speaker 19: so are the two games, uh, in Florida. So, you know,
- 1:17:22Speaker 19: be nice to get the first one tonight for sure.
- 1:17:25Speaker 6: Where are you going to be doing tonight at six o'clock?
- 1:17:27Speaker 6: I bet you're doing Cougs. How are you going to
- 1:17:29Speaker 6: have one eye on the Kraken and one eye guy
- 1:17:30Speaker 6: in the Cougs? How are you going to do that?
- 1:17:32Speaker 16: I won't.
- 1:17:33Speaker 19: I'll have two eyes on the Kraken and, uh, Two
- 1:17:36Speaker 19: eyes of the Kraken and wait until we're done with
- 1:17:39Speaker 19: our post-game show, which will probably come around halftime or so.
- 1:17:41Speaker 19: Both football games starting at 6. I guess the good
- 1:17:45Speaker 19: thing is I'm looking into a control room across from
- 1:17:47Speaker 19: me right now and I see Husky Stadium.
- 1:17:49Speaker 9: I should be able to keep an eye on that
- 1:17:51Speaker 9: game at least. That'll be good.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: So you're on Kong tonight, the Kraken, is that right?
- 1:17:55Speaker 19: Yeah, we're Kong tonight in Amazon Prime. If you're an
- 1:17:58Speaker 19: Amazon Prime person, you can watch it on Amazon Prime
- 1:18:01Speaker 19: if you like the streaming world. And then same thing
- 1:18:04Speaker 19: on Sunday, which we're going head-to-head against a certain NFL
- 1:18:07Speaker 19: game that's taking place.
- 1:18:09Speaker 9: So that'll be fun.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: I did notice that on the timing. What do you
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: got today? It's Danny O'Neill and Greg Cosell day, I think.
- 1:18:15Speaker 19: Yeah, Greg Cosell. Since we have a short show, two hours,
- 1:18:18Speaker 19: but we're going to cram everything in. We're going to
- 1:18:19Speaker 19: get all three of our Friday guests in. We'll have
- 1:18:21Speaker 19: Greg Cosell at 1220 today. We'll check in with Rob
- 1:18:25Speaker 19: Rang at 1 and then 130 Danny O'Neill. Also, I
- 1:18:28Speaker 19: got a little clip from our Derek Hall interview the
- 1:18:30Speaker 19: other day that was really good talking about the 49ers
- 1:18:31Speaker 19: and The significance of today's game, we'll get that in
- 1:18:34Speaker 19: at 1245. No factor fiction. Your pick was the last
- 1:18:38Speaker 19: pick for the week, we should point out to everybody.
- 1:18:40Speaker 19: No more factor fiction since I'm off at two and
- 1:18:42Speaker 19: there's no Softee, Jackson, Fane extravaganza later today.
- 1:18:46Speaker 9: So your pick was the last pick of the week
- 1:18:49Speaker 9: for factor fiction.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: I'm honored, and I'm honored it was my Army team,
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: the pride and dream. And enjoy.
- 1:18:54Speaker 6: We'll be listening to you and Jackson for the next
- 1:18:56Speaker 6: three hours. Greg Bell, Justin McIntyre in Utah, Jackson Feltz,
- 1:18:59Speaker 6: thanks for listening. We'll do it again on Monday, and
- 1:19:01Speaker 6: we'll talk all about Seahawks and 49ers, how that went
- 1:19:04Speaker 6: down on Sunday. Ian and Jackson are up next on
- 1:19:07Speaker 6: 93.3 KJRFM.
