- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Good morning everybody. So I bet you can hear all this
- 0:31noise in the background of the crows and a screeching hawk off
- 0:36in the distance it they keep going in rotation.
- 0:40And this is the symbiotic nature of it looks like the crow is
- 0:46further away. The Hawks are getting, the crows
- 0:48are getting closer rather than the hawk is getting further
- 0:50away. But you can probably hear the
- 0:52crows going crazy. And part of the reason that this
- 0:56is taking place is because I feed my crows peanuts and I
- 1:02trade them peanuts for alerts. And they're very, very smart.
- 1:08They are American crows and they are very, very, very smart.
- 1:11And they will but like totally stay around if you bribe them
- 1:16too. And they give alerts for for
- 1:18things when you get, you know, hunkered down in your
- 1:22mindfulness and you pay attention to what's happening
- 1:24around you. It's not just the crow being
- 1:25noisy. He's telling you something and
- 1:28he's screaming. And that is because we have a
- 1:30very, very large hawk that keeps coming and bothering the girls.
- 1:34So you can hear that, you know, obviously it's early.
- 1:38It's not as early as I normally am out here.
- 1:41It's a little bit later and you know, day after Christmas and
- 1:45I'm out here enjoying that. I don't have the hustle and
- 1:47bustle to go off. And all of a sudden the crows
- 1:49start going crazy. And then you can hear my
- 1:52neighbors goats off in the distance hitting their metal on
- 1:56their their pen that they aren't because they're goats and they
- 1:59do those things. But Needless to say, so this
- 2:03trade that I do with the crows is very important because I try
- 2:07to live very symbiotically with them and they can be a real pain
- 2:11in the butt. People will say they steal baby
- 2:12chicks, they do all kinds of things.
- 2:14But these crows have never done one thing other than work with
- 2:18me. And I work with them.
- 2:20So I provide them with things that they like, like peanuts
- 2:22that are shelled and peanuts that are unshelled.
- 2:24And I put them on a flight deck and they can fly in and they can
- 2:27grab them. And then they will make sure
- 2:30that if there is a hawk around, they they do not like Hawks.
- 2:34And they let you know. Now I've talked about that
- 2:37before, but why am I talking about it again today?
- 2:39Because I'm trying to work on really hunkering down, moving
- 2:43into the new year on the very symbiotic nature of the farm and
- 2:47myself and everything else. And I have taken this gap of
- 2:52time between now and January 5th, where I am currently
- 2:57working on plans for the new year, getting ready to put stuff
- 3:01together, but trying to also just take time and relax because
- 3:05I want to notice all of these things.
- 3:07I want to be aware of what's going on around on the farm.
- 3:10I want to see even more I and I see a lot, but I know I don't
- 3:15see everything. So I have promised myself that
- 3:19going into 2026, I was going to not be so focused on just
- 3:25outcomes and you know, those minutiae things of ticking the
- 3:30box because I'm very, very good. I'm not even very good.
- 3:33I'm excellent at that. If you give me a list of tasks,
- 3:37I'm going to do every single one of those tasks the way they need
- 3:40to be done. But that means that sometimes I
- 3:43miss other things. I forget about other things or I
- 3:46get so hunkered in that I forget about it.
- 3:50And this morning when I heard all of this going on, I was in
- 3:53the process of getting all their breakfast platters ready.
- 3:56And I could hear it inside. It was so loud.
- 3:59And I was like, wait a minute, what is going on?
- 4:02And I stopped and I came out and I was like, oh wow, there's
- 4:06there must be something annoying them.
- 4:08And sure enough, it was this gigantic hawk back again.
- 4:11And so if I was just in the mode to tick the box, I would not
- 4:16have even been paying attention. I would have been like, OK, do
- 4:19this, do this, do this, do this, do this.
- 4:21And that part of the drill makes me miss other things.
- 4:24So I am going to be even more mindful.
- 4:28The goal is being more mindful. The goal is being more to live
- 4:31in that symbiotic nature and pay attention.
- 4:34The goal is to make sure that going into this, I'm going to be
- 4:38really, really focused on being present.
- 4:42So that also means that I have a very high need to make sure that
- 4:48the next week that I have off that I'm spending it the right
- 4:53way, hunkered down. And not just tasks, because I
- 4:56got a bunch of tasks I want to do and I will do them, but I
- 5:00have to also make time for other things.
- 5:02So it's a balance, my friends, it's a balance.
- 5:05So if you are sitting home and you have some time off and
- 5:08you're thinking about all the stuff you should get done and
- 5:10you're shooting all over yourself, great, I understand.
- 5:14I'm doing that too. And I think it's important to
- 5:18remember about being, who do you want to be over these days?
- 5:23How do you want to show up for yourself?
- 5:25What do you want to notice? Like, I can stand here and I can
- 5:28look over and I can see that crow still sitting in the tree
- 5:31over the over the chickens while they're having their breakfast
- 5:34stuff. And he's just watching and
- 5:36paying attention. And I can turn around and I can
- 5:39see all the little songbirds getting ready to come into the
- 5:42flight deck where I put their bird food out.
- 5:44And I can see all the bubbles coming up in the pond.
- 5:46And I'm very hunkered into it and paying attention to
- 5:50everything. And it's not exactly peaceful
- 5:52out here this morning because you can hear gunshots off in the
- 5:55distance because one of our neighbors has a place where he
- 5:58goes shooting and he uses it often.
- 6:02But it's just pay attention to that part of you because it's so
- 6:07important to success. All right, my friends, I hope
- 6:10you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 6:13Bye.
