- 0:00These days all the talk is about AI.
- 0:02Few years ago we were talking about crypto and in between or
- 0:07depends how you see it, we were also talking about privacy.
- 0:10Now, how do AI and privacy play a role in the crypto world?
- 0:15Well, that's a very fascinating question, but we need somebody
- 0:19who understands AI, who understand privacy, who
- 0:21understand crypto. And we have exactly that kind of
- 0:24a person in Gokhan Pollard, who's already been on our
- 0:27podcast and we are going to talk to him.
- 0:31And as we do that, I encourage you to visit
- 0:33www.fitforprivacy.com for your consulting needs on AI privacy
- 0:38and so sourcing of procurement matters and also

- 1:36advice. Now it's time to dive in today's
- 1:39episode. Hello, and welcome to another
- 1:44episode of the Fit for Privacy podcast in collaboration with
- 1:47the Gross Skill Store. And we are very happy to have
- 1:50Gokhan Bolat here. Gokhan, welcome to the show.
- 1:55Thank you, Puneet. How are you today?
- 1:58I'm good. It's a pleasure to have you.
- 2:01And let's talk about because when we go to conferences, you
- 2:05and me and when we speak, there's always a talk about AI.
- 2:08So how would you put AI in context of today?
- 2:12How is AI or what is AI for you? OK, my name is Kyukan and I'm
- 2:17attending from Istanbul. I live in Istanbul and I also
- 2:22work and collaborate with Isaka, like punits, and we met with him
- 2:29in London, not in Dublin, Right Punits?
- 2:33We met in Dublin, we met in Istanbul, we met I think in
- 2:36Brussels also, if I remember. Russell yes.
- 2:39And I have been providing consultants in information
- 2:44technology, governance, cybersecurity, privacy and
- 2:49enterprise risk management domains.
- 2:51I have an experience. I have experience in.
- 2:54Crypto. Sector ecosystem I worked as the
- 2:58Director of Enterprise Risk Management and I am now also a
- 3:03work as a business development leader of blockchain oriented
- 3:08business models. Not as a service company we
- 3:11founded a few months before. And still I am in this sector
- 3:18and working with a lot of sector companies.
- 3:22And today I'd love to share my experience, knowledge and view
- 3:28about this sector. Good.
- 3:31So we were talking about AI, artificial intelligence.
- 3:35How would you put AI in a few words?
- 3:38OK. AI is extremely important.
- 3:41It's a technology which helps us to analyse a vast amount amount
- 3:47of data in a. Short period of.
- 3:50Time and it can also detect the patterns a human cannot.
- 3:58Able to do it. And.
- 4:00With this capacity capability, AI provides us a huge.
- 4:06Different business models creating opportunities in modern
- 4:12business type and it also brings a lot of problems I mean.
- 4:16Risk because. It's constantly changing and we
- 4:20have some problems of catching up with this transformation.
- 4:25Some companies unaware to understand what kind of
- 4:31technology they are dealing with, some of them cannot decide
- 4:35in which model. Which AI?
- 4:39Technology approach they should implement in their business.
- 4:46Or. Some of them still.
- 4:49Has questions about the risks. Or privacy problems caused by
- 4:56this AI technology and. This all creates difficulties
- 5:04for business theatres it this is.
- 5:06Important because for us, for the AI technologies improving
- 5:12very fast, very quickly. Every day we are.
- 5:14Hearing a new kind of AI application use cases in
- 5:21different sectors, it's exciting for us, especially the.
- 5:26People. Like me who loves to implement
- 5:30new technologies in new business models and to analyse.
- 5:35The risks. And help business owners in
- 5:39dealing with this kind of risk AI.
- 5:42Creates a lot of opportunities, Absolutely, it creates a lot of
- 5:46opportunities. And when you mention about the
- 5:48challenges and companies struggling to implement AI or
- 5:53not knowing what to do, I think that's where they need
- 5:55consultants like you and me because we help.
- 5:58We guide companies through training, through consultancy on
- 6:03how to approach AI governance, how to set initiate AI.
- 6:07But you also play do a lot of work in crypto.
- 6:11Yeah. So I would like to get into how
- 6:14does AI impact crypto. But first before we go into how
- 6:19AI impact crypto or what is happening in that field, explain
- 6:23to us in brief what is crypto? What is it all about?
- 6:27OK, Crypto. Is a huge sector.
- 6:32In crypto ecosystem represent a foundational shift from
- 6:35centralised Internet web 2 to decentralised 1 built on the
- 6:40principle. Of.
- 6:41Trust and transparency. As all we know, ISACA created
- 6:47and delivered a digital trust ecosystem framework when I first
- 6:51started in crypto company. Crypto asset service.
- 6:56Provider company I I. I saw there are.
- 7:00Different kind of assurance functions.
- 7:04Trying to create distrust. Ecosystem between their
- 7:09customers, partners, legislation, authorities and the
- 7:15clients so. They they try to.
- 7:18Make it with employing or wasting a lot of money and using
- 7:22different. Technologies.
- 7:24To make it more secure after a while I make my analysis and so
- 7:31in crypto sectors, trust is extremely important.
- 7:36So that's crypto and the AI is there.
- 7:39And now how does AI play a role in crypto?
- 7:42Or is AI playing a role in crypto somehow?
- 7:45But is AI impacting crypto if I can ask?
- 7:47It OK Punit, because you asked me what about what is crypto?
- 7:52I'll make a general explanation then move on with my experience.
- 7:58OK, I made a mistake because I couldn't stop.
- 8:01OK, crypto is important. It is because changing the the
- 8:06financials ecosystem globally, it changes the dynamics we use,
- 8:12we we used. To.
- 8:14From another. It's it's.
- 8:16Bringing us to another understanding the crypto
- 8:19ecosystem, Web Three presents a foundational shift from
- 8:23centralised Internet web. 2 to a decentralised.
- 8:27One built on the principle trust and transparency.
- 8:30It is core web. 3 provides the infrastructure.
- 8:34Of trust, a global peer-to-peer network where.
- 8:37Transactions and data are recorded on an imitable tamper
- 8:41proof Ledger. The importance of the system is
- 8:44rapidly expanding from a niche experiment to a major global
- 8:49network with over 220 million month.
- 8:53Active addresses. Now it we are seeing in reports,
- 8:58in surveys of global players and it represents.
- 9:02An it. Represents an expanding digital
- 9:05economy. This.
- 9:06Structure is critical. Because it enables decentralised
- 9:10finance, it drives economical growth and this sector needs.
- 9:16To be secure or. Needs to be affected by AI
- 9:20technology in some different aspects now we're seeing.
- 9:26Crypto. Ecosystem companies needs to.
- 9:29Create a digital trust because it's.
- 9:32A competitive advantage for them to prove the customers,
- 9:36stakeholders, partners, banking organisations or investors
- 9:41venture. Capitals or legislative
- 9:44authorities? We're we're.
- 9:47Protecting, We're protecting assets of our customers in a
- 9:52secure business environment. This needs in changing business.
- 10:02Ecosystem caused. By AI Hype.
- 10:05They're also affected. And I think.
- 10:08Crypt. Ecosystem companies because of
- 10:11their financial. Power.
- 10:13They apply AI. In high levels, almost in all
- 10:18business functions. So AI is being applied by crypto
- 10:25companies and crypto creates trust.
- 10:28Digital Trust is the name of the game these days.
- 10:32And if I can ask, because you used the term web 3 dot O,
- 10:36because we often hear web 2 dot O3 dot O and sometimes 4 dot O,
- 10:41would you have some insights for us to classify what is this web
- 10:473 dot O or is web 4 dot O on the way?
- 10:52In Web 2IN Web two we stick on the capacity of internal service
- 10:58providers. I mean the infrastructure they
- 11:01created we can operate in defines.
- 11:05Or. Defined environments.
- 11:08We have very limited opportunities to use this
- 11:13system, but in the decentralised ecosystem, thanks to blockchain
- 11:17technology, we can. Operate with the.
- 11:22Environment We created our transactions, our communities,
- 11:28our business models created in blockchain environment.
- 11:35Just stick to the features of. Blockchain technology not an
- 11:41intermediary player, and this creates a more democratised
- 11:49financial ecosystem or more democratised communities.
- 11:55Which? Are not in the influence of
- 11:57strong technology vendors. And when we talk about crypto
- 12:05and when we talk about AI, yes, AI is being used in crypto.
- 12:09But would you have a few scenarios, examples, use cases
- 12:14in which AI is being used in crypto and it's changing the
- 12:18game? OK.
- 12:21In the crypto ecosystem, we have been in financial sector, I
- 12:26mean, not just. Crypto AI supported GRC tools K.
- 12:32YCML Tools. Cyber secret threat
- 12:34intelligence. Tools or other cybersecurity
- 12:39technologies were supported by AI for.
- 12:43Long, but now we're seeing an accelerate in usage of AI
- 12:50technology. As I mentioned, we can use these
- 12:55technologies to analyse in onboarding process.
- 12:58For example if I want to be become a member of our client.
- 13:03Of a crypto as a service provider I should.
- 13:06Follow some specific processes which makes which and forced me
- 13:12to introduce myself to this system before.
- 13:17You have to speak with a. Client representative and.
- 13:22You have to. Prove them.
- 13:23You are the real. Person, but now with AI.
- 13:26Technology. It is very.
- 13:27Easy in in two or three minutes. It is easy to introduce
- 13:33yourself. You are the person you claimed.
- 13:36This is an important area. It's.
- 13:37Makes this processes faster. And more reliable because the
- 13:44previous previous systems caused some fraudiant problems.
- 13:53Fraudiantal problems. Some customer representatives
- 13:59use this information for their own benefits.
- 14:03But with the. Help of this technology, AI
- 14:06technology we do not have. To trust.
- 14:10Persons, people in the in the, in the media, in like onboarding
- 14:15process, KYCN, AM, LS and other important area.
- 14:19Where we, where we use, where we apply AI.
- 14:21Technology. Now companies can follow the
- 14:26transactions. Who?
- 14:29Sent what amount of money or? Digital asset to which?
- 14:35Client or which person? Before we also use.
- 14:41A high number of expert analysis to follow these transactions
- 14:47because. They just state authorities like
- 14:50FATF. Rules.
- 14:51Maybe you heard about it? FATF rules Global for the KYC
- 14:58domain. Before we have to hire a lot of.
- 15:03Experts. Analysts.
- 15:05To follow these. Transactions.
- 15:06But now AI supported systems use a lot of a big amount of data on
- 15:15real time, analyse transactions and find anomalies and IT.
- 15:20Also increases our capacity. To comply.
- 15:25With legislative authorities expectations.
- 15:29And. It's also important because.
- 15:33Legislative authorities also know.
- 15:34AI we should. We should.
- 15:37Use AI technologies and they have limited.
- 15:44How can I explain? I forgot the name meaning of
- 15:46this meaning. They don't care, Ivan.
- 15:49They do not close their eyes. Now they want you to manage.
- 15:57These processes without with little failure because they want
- 16:02you to AI use AI systems because of we.
- 16:07Had some risk. Appetite that caused by.
- 16:12Human failures, but thanks to AI technologies, in this process we
- 16:18see a. Lower human failure.
- 16:24Failure. And we also use AI technology
- 16:27and cybersecurity area AI supported DLP CM system.
- 16:32Firewalls or? We can also analyse the.
- 16:35Rules of this cyber security tools with the help of AI it's.
- 16:39Becoming. Very easy for us it I I took
- 16:43part. In DLP governance.
- 16:47Consultancy projects for different.
- 16:50Financial institutions it's not. Easy it takes.
- 16:53Three or four months to analyse. All the rules.
- 16:56And minimise the. False positives of the.
- 16:59Systems or find the for exception acceptance or.
- 17:10The. Correlation with CM tools.
- 17:13Data classification tools and firewalls, but with the help of
- 17:18AI. This becomes easier for us and
- 17:22another area in a smart contract analysis.
- 17:26As we know of, smart contracts now work for us and.
- 17:30Apply the our. Contract requirements
- 17:36automatically because. They are caught.
- 17:39They they they are. Written.
- 17:41Codes, but they also. Include they also had.
- 17:49They may also have. Problems.
- 17:51Failures. Flaws.
- 17:53Now with the AI systems, we can. Upgrade these codes.
- 17:58And help them to work much better, much faster and in in
- 18:07another. Case if they.
- 18:10The marketing teams, crypto ecosystem companies now use AI
- 18:16systems to analyse customers, that changing customers
- 18:20expectations, what kind of problems they are experiencing.
- 18:24Or they use also AI to provide training.
- 18:29For clients. Because as we all.
- 18:32We know in Dora and Mica the customer training is another
- 18:37important aspect of creating digital.
- 18:40Trust Ecosystem. Your customers are now facing
- 18:43with a complex technology, blockchain and crypto technology
- 18:47and with the help of AI system you can.
- 18:50Create. Tailored training Training
- 18:55platforms online you can go. Register.
- 18:59And how can I explain you? Can you can improve your
- 19:04understanding about these systems?
- 19:07Of course. So AI and crypto combined is
- 19:10being used for fraud detection, cybersecurity, transaction
- 19:14matching, customer identity verification for KYC as you
- 19:17said, anti money, long term fraud detection, budgeting,
- 19:21training. And one else for.
- 19:24Example it's it's. Now we see it in.
- 19:28Every area of a. Company.
- 19:31Because for example I spent a lot of.
- 19:35Time in choosing right person for the company crypto.
- 19:38Source provider because they have to be careful.
- 19:42Whom to? Hire because of there are a lot
- 19:45of. Assets money, so they.
- 19:46Have to be careful. About it now thanks to AI, the
- 19:50human resources people. Have the capacity of AI.
- 19:54And they analyse the, you know, series easily, they analyse,
- 19:58they may have some video recordings, analyse the persons
- 20:05and before taken to them, to the office, you know, meeting.
- 20:10They can make selection. Thanks to AI.
- 20:13No, I was working with a client and they were using AI to
- 20:18analyse the tone of voice or if they're on chat, the tone of
- 20:22tonality of the language and analyse if the customer is
- 20:26angry, If the customer is satisfied, what are they
- 20:30thinking? Are they?
- 20:32And then guiding the customer support service executive to
- 20:37change the tone or giving advice on real time dynamic.
- 20:41Why don't you say this? Why, of course, it becomes too
- 20:44much for the customer service agent because 1, he has to
- 20:47listen to he, he or she has to watch what the AI is suggesting.
- 20:52But it's working in tandem and then making life easier.
- 20:56So AI and human combined. But there are a lot of use cases
- 21:00indeed, which can be used. But what about privacy when it
- 21:03comes to crypto, AI and all these things combined?
- 21:06Because AI creates privacy concerns and then crypto was
- 21:10alleviating privacy concerns. So crypto was being seen as
- 21:13something protecting privacy. So what is happening with the
- 21:16crypto AI combined? OK.
- 21:19It's a good question, but beforehand I have to.
- 21:24I it it will be better to to approach this?
- 21:27Topic from another approach. As I, I, I.
- 21:31Explained. I made brief explanation about
- 21:34the KYC AM L for the KYC AM L. Or on boarding process you
- 21:38should collect a lot of. Personal data.
- 21:41OK. But this contradicts.
- 21:45With the GDPR. Or Turkish version KVKK data
- 21:49protection. Legislation because these
- 21:53registrations also. Enforce you data minimization.
- 21:57You should collect minimal. Data for your business process,
- 22:03right or? According to contract or
- 22:05according to the. Agreement you did you do with
- 22:08your. Customers this contradicts I
- 22:11mean. FATF or rules and forced you to.
- 22:15Collect a lot of information, data to analyse.
- 22:20The frozen activity but GT Park. Or other data protection rules.
- 22:26Stops. You or minimise you and force
- 22:32you to get minimise information data from the customer.
- 22:38And now we are adding another dimension AI.
- 22:42AI systems using should be trained.
- 22:46It is a vast. Amount of data and if you want a
- 22:53strong AI. Tool you should.
- 22:55Train, train them. With similar features with real
- 23:01data. In this In this.
- 23:04Regard if you want to. Comply with data protection KYC
- 23:12rules and if you implement AI systems into the process.
- 23:19You should. Be define the context.
- 23:25Of your business. Requirements in the context.
- 23:29All we know we. Have organisation, vision,
- 23:33mission, legislative requirements, restrictions, the
- 23:38ecosystem you're operating. You should first know.
- 23:42And then define the baseline control baseline.
- 23:48I am trying to explain that. It you have, there's a
- 23:52contradiction, there's a. Problem because you need data.
- 23:54But GDPR or other? Data protection authorities or
- 23:59legislation wants you to be careful about using collecting
- 24:06the data now you should find an optimum.
- 24:11Point the help of. Understanding your business
- 24:16context in the business context, there are different factors.
- 24:20Some of them are extremely. Valuable.
- 24:25And necessary some of them are you.
- 24:27Should. Leave them behind and
- 24:30legislative requirements are extremely important nowadays
- 24:35because legislative authorities. Some cases may.
- 24:39Stop all your business. Process and protecting or.
- 24:44Respecting the privacy issues. Now is extremely important in
- 24:49digital trust understanding all we know there is an organisation
- 24:54Edelman and from 2001 Edelman is publishing or publishing a
- 25:01report Edelman trust parameter in parameter in this.
- 25:05Report, it says. In a few years.
- 25:07Before. When I was reading I saw it the
- 25:10customers now claiming 65% of. Customers sees data privacy as a
- 25:19factor which effects their decision to go with the service.
- 25:25Or not. If they, if they, if.
- 25:28They don't believe the company does not respect their data.
- 25:33They may not. Go to buy your service or your
- 25:38protection. And it's extremely important in
- 25:42crypto ecosystem too, if the and the clients in this.
- 25:46Sector clients are very curious. They are.
- 25:49More technology oriented. They use social.
- 25:52Media very efficiently you can see a lot of clients spending
- 25:57time in discord channels, select channels or Twitter if.
- 26:02They suspect. You are violating.
- 26:07Their data privacy issue or their rights?
- 26:10In data assets protection. You'll see.
- 26:13Your company's name in Twitter Hi.
- 26:17What do you say? Hi, what do you say in Punit?
- 26:25Higher in in the rankings. And basically the concept you're
- 26:28saying is, let's say I'm browsing a site and later on I
- 26:32see an ad in Twitter. So customers see that this
- 26:35company is not protecting my data because they were sharing
- 26:39with Twitter. Because otherwise how does
- 26:41Twitter or Facebook or LinkedIn know that I was on website XYZ?
- 26:46But you're saying it exactly right.
- 26:48I think ISO 27,701 or 42,001 also talk about when you're
- 26:55applying AI or privacy or anything in your organisation.
- 26:58Look at the external context. What is the company, what is the
- 27:03regulatory landscape, what is the society landscape, What is
- 27:06the legal landscape, What is the environmental landscape in which
- 27:11you are? Then look at the organisational,
- 27:13the values, the behaviours, the differentiation you want to make
- 27:18in the market and then decide on your strategy, whether it's for
- 27:22privacy or AI, and then build your privacy policy or AI
- 27:24policy. That's what we teach in the ISO
- 27:2742,001. We teach when we talk about in
- 27:30ISO 27,701. Let's start with that
- 27:34contextualization and then apply because GDPR, for example, as
- 27:37you said, it allows you to do the business, but with the
- 27:41necessary data, not too much, not too little.
- 27:44Choose the right data and then you have to do KYCKYC is another
- 27:47legislation. So apply KYC and GDPR in tandem,
- 27:51collect the right amount of data.
- 27:52And of course, your AI is data hungry, needs vast amount of
- 27:57data, yes. So for that, you train it, as
- 28:00you rightly said, with the vast amount of data, but synthetic
- 28:04data, not real data. Use synthetic data created based
- 28:08on probably your actual data, train it, train it well, test
- 28:12it. And then when you launch, allow
- 28:14it to read the necessity data. But very well said.
- 28:18But at this moment, as we close this conversation, I think it's
- 28:22also, I remember that you also have a podcast of your own.
- 28:26Are you still doing it? One of my colleagues, as you
- 28:30know, we had a community database.
- 28:33I traded. I founded this community a few
- 28:37like maybe 7-8 years before with my colleagues from KPMG or
- 28:42Sanyang. I had AI have a community as you
- 28:45know, because. I also hosted.
- 28:48You with my colleague and this community.
- 28:51I I work with one of my colleague Damra.
- 28:54I guess he also. Remember she's.
- 28:57Now in the period. Of.
- 28:59Examination she's becoming a financial strategist of a
- 29:03company and. She should.
- 29:06Go and pass some examination in Turkish legislation.
- 29:10So we gave, we gave this, we decided to.
- 29:13Give how can explain break two months break?
- 29:16Yes, but it was great because. It helped me to, you know, meet.
