- 0:04Speaker 1: Job scam, another hit skinner.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Why can't you be a gentle clinker? Four finger discounted.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Welcome to four figure this game where this week we're
- 0:32Speaker 1: here to review episode eighteen of season nineteen. At the Simpsons.
- 0:35Speaker 1: It is any given sundance.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I'm down to and I am guy, not quite a nerd,
- 0:40Speaker 2: not quite a hunk.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Na I feel like carb diet. You becoming hunky?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yeah, less husky, one might say.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Has Louise commented on it? You clearly dropped Wait a
- 0:51Speaker 1: little bit.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah, Louise has dropped like nearly ten kilos next to
- 0:55Speaker 2: which I don't think she needed to do because she
- 0:57Speaker 2: was beautifully curvaceous. Yeah, and now.
- 0:59Speaker 1: She's stunt so Nicholas the same. She's been like exercising
- 1:02Speaker 1: the garage gym set up to be working out and
- 1:04Speaker 1: doing like the YouTube workouts, and they're really really hard.
- 1:08Speaker 1: She got me onto them, but she's been doing for
- 1:09Speaker 1: the last three months. And last night she was sort
- 1:11Speaker 1: of like following the washing and I was just like,
- 1:17Speaker 1: first of my sort of properly notice I was. You know,
- 1:19Speaker 1: because you live with someone all the time, you see
- 1:20Speaker 1: him every day, it's hard to sort of notice differences
- 1:23Speaker 1: unless it's a hair cut of things like that. But
- 1:25Speaker 1: I just went shit, Indeed, you're looking great.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Welcome to more simping with Dando and guards. Welcome to
- 1:31Speaker 2: the wife guys.
- 1:31Speaker 1: But a question for you tailgat parties. Do you wish
- 1:34Speaker 1: we had these in Australia?
- 1:35Speaker 2: This is my very first notes. I think I like
- 1:38Speaker 2: the idea of tailgate is more than tawergate parties themselves.
- 1:43Speaker 2: You see footage of them in the US for outside
- 1:45Speaker 2: any professional football game, especially college football games. They seem
- 1:49Speaker 2: to be huge, real community but they seem they seem
- 1:52Speaker 2: like great fun. And you know, I remember school sports days,
- 1:56Speaker 2: you know, when people sort of rock up with the
- 1:59Speaker 2: full driver station wagon and whatever and just unload the
- 2:01Speaker 2: picnic basket. I think I don't think I'm the kind
- 2:05Speaker 2: of person who gets invited along, say so, have a
- 2:09Speaker 2: sandwich you or anything like that. A tailgate party seems
- 2:12Speaker 2: a lot more you're right, inclusive, a lot more friendly,
- 2:15Speaker 2: a lot more welcoming.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I think I need to experience one to have a
- 2:18Speaker 1: proper click, and that's with most cases. But as I said,
- 2:21Speaker 1: I like the idea of it. I think every single
- 2:24Speaker 1: time we'd probably get annoying. But I do think I
- 2:26Speaker 1: would appreciate just hanging out before a game, cause I
- 2:28Speaker 1: feel like now when we go to the footy, we
- 2:30Speaker 1: get there like twenty minutes before the bounce. It used
- 2:32Speaker 1: to be when I was growing up. My memories of
- 2:33Speaker 1: the gone to the AFL footy growing up was that
- 2:36Speaker 1: we'd leave it like eleven am because they'd always pay
- 2:38Speaker 1: the seconds that the reserves came beforehand, so we leave
- 2:41Speaker 1: like ten thirty eleven am. It was an event. You
- 2:43Speaker 1: go pick up Beaumont's pies on the way to the footy,
- 2:45Speaker 1: get there early, watch the reserves play first.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Pick up our footy record, hot hot pie, cold drink. Yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 2: you'd get a double feature. You'd get you know, like
- 2:53Speaker 2: the reserves and then you get the main event.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah. It was perfect. Yeah, now just we need to
- 2:58Speaker 1: go back now. It just feels like you get to
- 3:00Speaker 1: the game just before the bounce and you know, you
- 3:02Speaker 1: get the game finished, you just walk off. There's no
- 3:04Speaker 1: sort of community vibe to it anymore.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yeah, you get a big gay Katie Perry experience. I
- 3:10Speaker 2: mean that in a very positive way. I went to
- 3:13Speaker 2: a Grand Final here in Australia. We had the Grand Final,
- 3:16Speaker 2: the AFL Grand final Los again.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Our super Bowl, very very small, smaller scale.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Yeah, and that that extends to the entertainment as well.
- 3:27Speaker 2: But Katy Perry provided the opening entertainment, the pregame entertainment.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Katie Perry has been in the walls a little bit recently.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Her recent album has been regarded as a bit of
- 3:36Speaker 2: a stinker.
- 3:37Speaker 1: We've got that first interruption here. So Elliot is home
- 3:39Speaker 1: from school holidays at the moment, Alliot, what's up, buddy?
- 3:41Speaker 2: It's a special guest.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Turned off? Right, Come here for a second. I've got
- 3:46Speaker 1: actually a storytep. You finished this story in the second mister,
- 3:48Speaker 1: mister Davis, Come here, Elliott.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Come. It wasn't really so much a story as a
- 3:51Speaker 2: rambling anecdom.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Elliot coming mate. So it's currently don't knock that camera, buddy,
- 3:56Speaker 1: come over here, all right, So we're gonna hop on
- 3:58Speaker 1: this camera with me. Okay. So what happened was this
- 4:01Speaker 1: week at school holidays. So Elliott's home at the moment, he's,
- 4:04Speaker 1: you know, being a good boy, watching his cricket out
- 4:06Speaker 1: in the other room. Well it was, but on the
- 4:08Speaker 1: weekend we went to the swimming pool. Now a month ago,
- 4:11Speaker 1: Elliott was a child who wouldn't was panicking before swimming
- 4:15Speaker 1: lessons because he didn't want his face in the water.
- 4:18Speaker 1: It just hated the water. Wouldn't get in the water,
- 4:20Speaker 1: hated water. I can relate Elliott telling, good guy, what
- 4:23Speaker 1: did you learn how to do yesterday? Swim? He actually swam.
- 4:27Speaker 1: He taught himself how to swim yesterday. We bought him
- 4:30Speaker 1: some goggles and he goes. I said, he, I don't
- 4:33Speaker 1: want to keep what I was going to teach myself,
- 4:35Speaker 1: and he is practice practice and he was swimming by
- 4:37Speaker 1: the end.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Tell people, for.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Those of us, how good was it? Yeah?
- 4:42Speaker 2: For those of us watching on video, you'll see that
- 4:44Speaker 2: Elliott has a Spider Man t He's not actually Spider Man.
- 4:47Speaker 2: He's Aquaman.
- 4:48Speaker 1: He's Aquaman. Yeah, moment was very very proud of you.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Proud of you, wasn't she? What's Aquaman's man? Is a
- 4:55Speaker 1: Marld kid?
- 4:58Speaker 2: Get out of here.
- 4:59Speaker 1: That just shows how bad of a job DC you're doing.
- 5:01Speaker 2: That's true. It's like it don't even know who Jason
- 5:03Speaker 2: Mama is and you look like him. I don't know, all.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Right, So I'll come fix the TV. Will be right
- 5:08Speaker 1: back after this short back.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I'm going to finish most story about Katy Perry, see Bud.
- 5:15Speaker 2: That's very impressive. That's a good work by anyway. What
- 5:20Speaker 2: was I Yep, Katy Perrys are having a bit of
- 5:22Speaker 2: a hard time at the moment. Her recently release album
- 5:25Speaker 2: is regarded as a bit of a stinker, her single
- 5:28Speaker 2: is regarded as a I don't know, bit of faux feminism.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Is not really landing on that well. In twenty twenty four,
- 5:34Speaker 2: she's kind of played out for mine, redeemed herself completely
- 5:38Speaker 2: at the part of the pregame entertainment at this year's
- 5:42Speaker 2: AFL Grand Final thought you did a really good job.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I didn't watch any of it. I'm back. It's good
- 5:48Speaker 1: that you weren't here for that. That's all you got
- 5:50Speaker 1: to add to the story. Yes, but tailgate parties just
- 5:52Speaker 1: seem like a lot of fun. I want to experience
- 5:54Speaker 1: them at least once, just to have a proper thought
- 5:57Speaker 1: on it.
- 5:57Speaker 2: I get the feeling you may have people who in
- 6:00Speaker 2: the Simpsons, of course it's satire and pushes scenes to extremes,
- 6:03Speaker 2: but you may have people in real life who do
- 6:04Speaker 2: go a bit far and like, you know, set up
- 6:07Speaker 2: a really elaborate grill or something like that. I think
- 6:10Speaker 2: a Towergate party should be you know, keep it simple.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, have a few snags Hamburgers, few snaggs Burgers. Yeah,
- 6:14Speaker 1: don't go chicken kebabs occasionally, yeah, wow, okay, okay, the skewers,
- 6:20Speaker 1: I know, because some people think kebabs are souvakis. It
- 6:22Speaker 1: just depends where you come from.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I guess, as I've said, I mean, there's that bit
- 6:26Speaker 2: in the Flight of the Concords where the New Zealand
- 6:28Speaker 2: guys have got their line about I'll buy you a
- 6:30Speaker 2: kebab in the song. Yeah, they've read like added to America,
- 6:33Speaker 2: so they're buying you like a sho It's like, okay, no, no,
- 6:37Speaker 2: it's a it's a Schwamer.
- 6:38Speaker 1: It's it's a Sorry.
- 6:41Speaker 2: We're doing Seinfeld a bit later, and already I'm going
- 6:43Speaker 2: to Seinfeld for Yeah.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Yeah, we had to do the pick exclusive for our
- 6:45Speaker 1: supporters on.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Patriot and as you said that, I went like that
- 6:48Speaker 2: and it could be easily misconstrued.
- 6:51Speaker 1: So any given Sun Dance, I mentioned last week the
- 6:54Speaker 1: end of the episode that oh, I don't have really
- 6:56Speaker 1: fond memories of this one. I actually enjoyed it. I
- 6:59Speaker 1: really enjoy that charm was in Skinner one're life nothing.
- 7:03Speaker 1: It didn't blow it for them at all. No, they
- 7:06Speaker 1: were Actually that's pretty cool, and I liked that they
- 7:10Speaker 1: were power players. And yeah, we're able to tell redacted
- 7:13Speaker 1: to We'll get to the cameo. We'll get to get
- 7:15Speaker 1: the cameo.
- 7:15Speaker 2: It was nice sort of cameo from John c Riley,
- 7:17Speaker 2: John c Raley with John c Riley, which I wasn't expecting.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I'd forgotten about that entirely, and I initially thought it
- 7:22Speaker 2: was going to be a cameo by independent film legend
- 7:25Speaker 2: Jim Jarmush. Turned out he played a pivotal role in
- 7:28Speaker 2: the whole thing.
- 7:28Speaker 1: And it was actually really good, wasn't it.
- 7:30Speaker 2: He's really good. I mean he came he came into
- 7:33Speaker 2: prominence when I was becoming like a budding film nerd
- 7:35Speaker 2: in the eighties. Okay, you see this guy and he
- 7:37Speaker 2: was always wearing like as guy bends over and he's
- 7:41Speaker 2: changing his death. He always had like ray bands on
- 7:44Speaker 2: if you're if you're watching video, I just put ray
- 7:46Speaker 2: bands on. But he's always got this like rockabilly hairdode
- 7:50Speaker 2: that's went from dark to gray and now it's this
- 7:55Speaker 2: shock of white. But he's still got the you know,
- 7:57Speaker 2: the long Sideburns and the and the rockabilly rockabilly quiff.
- 8:01Speaker 2: It just seems like the coolest man, imagetable and very
- 8:04Speaker 2: laid back, and.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I honestly don't know who he is. I'm not gonna lie.
- 8:07Speaker 2: He just makes a bunch of He's never really sort
- 8:09Speaker 2: of broken through, but he's made the kind of movies
- 8:11Speaker 2: he's wanted to make for like forty years or something.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Is he the Pixies of the film, He's a bit
- 8:16Speaker 1: like that. Yeah, everyone likes Pixies, but they've never really
- 8:19Speaker 1: been mainstream, that's correct. Yeah, Yeah, Well I thought he
- 8:22Speaker 1: was great in this. Really they worked the cameo into
- 8:26Speaker 1: a story, into the story that actually felt natural and
- 8:29Speaker 1: organic and actually flowed the story flowing absolutely, it didn't
- 8:32Speaker 1: just feel sort of like thrown in for the sake
- 8:34Speaker 1: of it.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Yeah, because, I mean the way they're talking about Sundance here,
- 8:37Speaker 2: I mean it could feel inside baseball and also a
- 8:40Speaker 2: bit kind of oh, look at these wankers.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Which is why I don't think I liked it as
- 8:44Speaker 1: a kick. I had no idea what was going on.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Yeah, that's and I think that probably is if there's
- 8:49Speaker 2: a fault with the episode.
- 8:50Speaker 1: It's that that's a fault. They're definitely making it for themselves.
- 8:55Speaker 1: But I think it's important that they did this because
- 8:58Speaker 1: in a way, do see Sundance kind of in a
- 9:02Speaker 1: pretentious way, or they sell independent films. Their consensus is
- 9:05Speaker 1: it's kind of pretentious in its way, right, and it's
- 9:08Speaker 1: inside basewise. You said, so, I think an episode that
- 9:11Speaker 1: sort of flows like that suits.
- 9:13Speaker 2: The Sundance Festival. It does be Yeah, I mean gently
- 9:16Speaker 2: taking the piss out of it as well. Yeah, but
- 9:18Speaker 2: you're always taking You're right in what you're saying. It's like,
- 9:21Speaker 2: we kind of made this for ourselves, and we do
- 9:23Speaker 2: want to show that we're not in with the in crowd,
- 9:27Speaker 2: but you know, we can speak the language. And one
- 9:29Speaker 2: day we hope to maybe graduate out of the writer's
- 9:32Speaker 2: room and oh, get my low budget investigation and my
- 9:35Speaker 2: family made and shown that Sundance and bought for teenlean
- 9:38Speaker 2: bucks and now lunching with the big boys.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I've just got here. The quote of I'm a Bond
- 9:43Speaker 1: filmmaker when you're younger, so true. We've all had that moment.
- 9:47Speaker 1: We're just like, I can make movies. I'm going to
- 9:49Speaker 1: do this. It's going to be a piece of piss.
- 9:51Speaker 1: When you're a kid, you're fearless, right, You're fearless in
- 9:54Speaker 1: your approach, and you haven't truly experienced professional failure yet,
- 9:58Speaker 1: so you've got no fear of the fail.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Oh absolutely, yeah, so you just do anything you please.
- 10:02Speaker 2: And yeah that's Jaws usually, well that's the thing. I mean,
- 10:07Speaker 2: for every dude who made Jaws, that's Steven Spielberg. By
- 10:11Speaker 2: the way. Yeah, there were probably a dozen to one
- 10:15Speaker 2: hundred and two who made their first movie and it's like,
- 10:19Speaker 2: we don't want this, We don't want you, sir or madam.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Yeah, well you're you're a Lisa. They kind of want you.
- 10:25Speaker 1: And then Nelson's okay, Spielberg comes around, like we want
- 10:27Speaker 1: that one, or.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Is Nelson even Spielberg. It was really just because yeah,
- 10:31Speaker 2: that was a sign. Dance is littered, and all these
- 10:34Speaker 2: films was a littered with people who's like, you gotta
- 10:36Speaker 2: be the next big thing, or you know, we love
- 10:38Speaker 2: your movie. I mean, the best example I can think of,
- 10:42Speaker 2: I'm not sure if it's a sun Dance movie or
- 10:44Speaker 2: from another film. Firstival, there was a movie called Happy
- 10:46Speaker 2: Texas and it was what, ye oh, this is mid nineties.
- 10:51Speaker 2: This is when there was a real sort of boom
- 10:52Speaker 2: in independent films.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Is that because of pulp fiction?
- 10:55Speaker 2: I think so.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:56Speaker 2: And it was a low budget crime company about these
- 10:58Speaker 2: two escape cons who Texas.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Okay, looking at it now, break out of jail.
- 11:02Speaker 2: These aren't Steve's are.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:05Speaker 2: It's got a good cast, it's yeah, and they pose
- 11:09Speaker 2: as I think it's gay party planners or festival organizers
- 11:12Speaker 2: or something in this small Texas town and everybody has
- 11:15Speaker 2: a life lesson. It's just mainstream. It's quirky enough not
- 11:19Speaker 2: to be considered holy mainstream, but it's mainstream enough not
- 11:22Speaker 2: to be considered holy quirky. I think Miramax bought it
- 11:25Speaker 2: for like ten million bucks. It was made for like
- 11:26Speaker 2: two million, and but then nobody went to see it.
- 11:28Speaker 1: It's like nineteen ninety nine ers when it came out,
- 11:30Speaker 1: No no, no, yeah, and that's a box office one
- 11:32Speaker 1: point nine million. Yeah.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I think the Ausier movie The Castle was like a
- 11:39Speaker 2: similar example. I think it played at one of these
- 11:40Speaker 2: film festivals and it was like, there's gonna be huge,
- 11:42Speaker 2: and I mean, of course it was huge. Everybody loves
- 11:44Speaker 2: the Castle, but it don't if it really translated yeah,
- 11:47Speaker 2: but yeah, that's kind of what Sundance is. And yeah,
- 11:49Speaker 2: you've got a whole bunch of filmmakers like I'm gonna
- 11:52Speaker 2: be Steven Soderberg. He was, He was like a huge
- 11:54Speaker 2: hidden sun Dance. But yeah, for every soda Burg or
- 11:56Speaker 2: Spielberg or whatever, Yeah, you've got a thousand who are like, Okay,
- 11:59Speaker 2: I'm going to Tarantina got his break, I reckon.
- 12:02Speaker 1: So yeah, it wasn't wasn't pop fictions that cans cans,
- 12:06Speaker 1: wasn't it?
- 12:06Speaker 2: Yeah? But Reservoir Dogs I think was at Sundance, was it? Okay? Yeah, yeah,
- 12:09Speaker 2: but anyway, that's enough sort of me film winking.
- 12:11Speaker 1: But that's what this episode it is about, though, And
- 12:13Speaker 1: I thought that the line it's near the end where
- 12:17Speaker 1: he goes this is my new favorite clist, the one
- 12:18Speaker 1: I just watched. Yeah, that completely just sums up the
- 12:21Speaker 1: vibe of these festivals. Isn't it's absolutely the hot new.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Thing, and certainly even I mean they allude to it.
- 12:26Speaker 2: With Comic Book Guy being an nonline reviewer for ain't
- 12:29Speaker 2: it fat much of your question, Ain't.
- 12:34Speaker 1: That felt very nostalgic for me, just a little nerd
- 12:36Speaker 1: on his little website.
- 12:38Speaker 2: But certainly with the rise of social media, you'll see
- 12:41Speaker 2: people changing their Twitter acax handles to so and so
- 12:46Speaker 2: at this festival at Tip Toronto International Film Festival or whatever,
- 12:51Speaker 2: and a lot of you're not really getting considered reviews
- 12:54Speaker 2: of the movie. They've just come to see. It's like
- 12:57Speaker 2: just out of so and so first impressions. Yeah, another time,
- 13:01Speaker 2: that's me.
- 13:02Speaker 1: After I saw Force Awakened, I was like, they've done
- 13:04Speaker 1: it again.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Yeah, so yeah, I mean you're going to get a
- 13:09Speaker 2: lot of that snap judgment as opposed to considered opinion,
- 13:12Speaker 2: and so that's I think that was something that the
- 13:14Speaker 2: that the episode actually did pretty well.
- 13:16Speaker 1: And they incorporated just a really sweet family Lisa's story
- 13:20Speaker 1: here right. Oh, you're Lisa learning and this is very relatable.
- 13:25Speaker 1: You know, you might think that your family life's no good,
- 13:28Speaker 1: but there's going to be someone else who's worse off
- 13:30Speaker 1: than you and Lisa. Not that they're saying here that
- 13:32Speaker 1: Lisa got nothing to complain about because she has, but
- 13:34Speaker 1: she realizes it's not as bad as she thinks.
- 13:37Speaker 2: That's absolutely right. There was something else I want to
- 13:39Speaker 2: talk about regarding that as well. I mean, if you're
- 13:42Speaker 2: a creative person or you want to pursue some kind
- 13:44Speaker 2: of creative endeavor, you have to be old saying go
- 13:47Speaker 2: is write what you know. I mean it can have
- 13:49Speaker 2: you know, dragons or wizards or hobbits or whatever. But
- 13:52Speaker 2: what's really going to connect with people is what you
- 13:54Speaker 2: bring to it on an emotional level. What you know
- 13:57Speaker 2: is your emotional truth. And that's why a Simpsons podcast.
- 14:02Speaker 2: But how much how much on the on this on
- 14:04Speaker 2: this podcast are we often talking about the Lovely Luise all.
- 14:08Speaker 1: It literally came in and how to swim?
- 14:10Speaker 2: Yeah? So yeah, any creative thing that you do is
- 14:15Speaker 2: going to be derived from what's around you. And yeah,
- 14:19Speaker 2: there's going to be a risk that the people that
- 14:21Speaker 2: you draw inspiration from might not like what you got
- 14:24Speaker 2: to say about it, or might not. You're saying too much,
- 14:28Speaker 2: You're revealing too much, But you know that's what that's where,
- 14:31Speaker 2: you know, the heart of art actually lies.
- 14:33Speaker 1: I think the longer a show goes on too, For example,
- 14:35Speaker 1: we get a lot of people writing in saying I
- 14:37Speaker 1: listen more so for just you guys just chatting, as
- 14:39Speaker 1: opposed to hearing you review the Simpsons. I wasn't even
- 14:41Speaker 1: watching the Simpsons by this point. But when we're first
- 14:43Speaker 1: start in the podcast. We do often get reviews of
- 14:45Speaker 1: people saying, stop talking about your life and talking about
- 14:47Speaker 1: the Simpsons. I think people's expectations of a podcast has
- 14:50Speaker 1: also changed as well. I think so when we started
- 14:52Speaker 1: ten years ago, it was I want to hear a
- 14:54Speaker 1: show about the Simpsons. Now it's I want to hear
- 14:56Speaker 1: these guys talk just talk about the Simpsons and every
- 14:59Speaker 1: the other.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Day and how we fold, you know, what's happening in
- 15:03Speaker 2: our lives, how it relates to the episode that we're
- 15:05Speaker 2: talking about.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and yeah. I just thought, yeah, I've got here.
- 15:08Speaker 1: This wasn't just a spoof of film festivals, the festival
- 15:10Speaker 1: of the festival hype. It was actually just a sweet
- 15:12Speaker 1: story of Lisa realizing her family life isn't as bad
- 15:15Speaker 1: as she thinks.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Yeah, correct.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I do think it was kind of similar to Barney
- 15:19Speaker 1: stealing the thunder at the film Festival In the Stars.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Burns, Oh yeah, I mean this is very much a
- 15:23Speaker 2: star as Reburns, isn't it. Yeah. I mean there's a
- 15:26Speaker 2: lot of beats that are quite similar.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I mean it's not I think it's not beat for beat,
- 15:31Speaker 1: but it feels like that they.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Have sort of strip mined stars burns for some part
- 15:35Speaker 2: and particularly that yeah, that final part with Barnie or Nelson.
- 15:42Speaker 1: It was definitely it was more of a crossover with
- 15:44Speaker 1: the critic that was that was the heart of that episode.
- 15:46Speaker 1: It's right, it was a piss take of film festivals
- 15:49Speaker 1: and just people throwing in films. But this one felt
- 15:51Speaker 1: more adult. I think a more sophisticated version of a
- 15:55Speaker 1: star's burns. Stara's burns is fantastic, but this one felt
- 15:58Speaker 1: like a more direct takeoff of know, referencing sun Dance
- 16:01Speaker 1: and having that kind of thing, but.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Be a little more specific and actionally name checking Sundance
- 16:04Speaker 2: as well. Yeah, I mean that that has its upside
- 16:06Speaker 2: down its downside.
- 16:09Speaker 1: My favorite will be you favorite moments from the episode
- 16:11Speaker 1: quite a few beside charm Skin.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Do you ever think about the logo of course production
- 16:18Speaker 2: full Finger Discounts, that's what it's called, right, I was
- 16:23Speaker 2: up very late working so last minute deadlines. I'm not
- 16:27Speaker 2: firing on all on the full Finger Discount industries or
- 16:29Speaker 2: Fulling dishan product the full Finger Discount network. I mean
- 16:32Speaker 2: that sort of has a logo, I guess, but if
- 16:34Speaker 2: you ever thought about like a yeah, because we're about
- 16:38Speaker 2: to launch another podcast and you're sending through here's a
- 16:41Speaker 2: logo that we're thinking. It's like, yeah, that's pretty good.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Put a clock in it.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Charmskin was great, something that I like a little throwaway gag.
- 16:52Speaker 2: But the Lisa's can called is called my Little Sony.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Oh I didn't say that, and it.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Had like the rainbow from my Little Pony, which.
- 16:58Speaker 1: It would have been at my Little Sawny.
- 17:00Speaker 2: You can't have everything. I love Jim Jarmer showing up.
- 17:05Speaker 2: I loved that it was more than a cameo, and
- 17:06Speaker 2: I thought it was great that John John c Riley
- 17:08Speaker 2: just showed up at the end. He did a really
- 17:11Speaker 2: fun and fascinating, likable guy. Incredibly talented. I mean he's
- 17:16Speaker 2: great in dramma, he's great in comedy, he's great in musical.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I loved him in was it King Kong? He was
- 17:20Speaker 1: in King Kong Kong? Yes, yeah, yeah, he's really good
- 17:25Speaker 1: than that.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Yeah. But he would just pop up in things unexpectedly,
- 17:28Speaker 2: like he was in like the Tim and Eric Show,
- 17:30Speaker 2: the Tim and Erics Sketch comedy show, playing like this
- 17:32Speaker 2: wacky doctor named Steve Brule, and he just had like
- 17:35Speaker 2: really thick coke bottle glasses on and sort of like
- 17:37Speaker 2: shock of a raiser head hair and just pulling faces.
- 17:41Speaker 1: And if he was like Big in the nineties, he
- 17:43Speaker 1: would have been like a perfect guest star for Seinfeld. Oh,
- 17:46Speaker 1: a quirky friend of Kramer's or something.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Yeah, No, he's just fantastic across the board. So for
- 17:50Speaker 2: him to pop up just and have a couple of
- 17:51Speaker 2: lines and be very self.
- 17:52Speaker 1: DEPI felt very much. John c Riley didn't.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, you've got a lot of good Homer
- 18:02Speaker 2: stuff in this.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:03Speaker 2: I loved his definition of quirky. No, no, it was
- 18:08Speaker 2: be quirky is a grandmother giving a finger. I'm like,
- 18:11Speaker 2: that is like the perfect description, is I mean, that's
- 18:14Speaker 2: that that grandma is basically a character from any given
- 18:17Speaker 2: Jack or Jack, but also his riff when he's gone
- 18:22Speaker 2: through the junk mail, the charity mail.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, that's their listing things gag.
- 18:26Speaker 2: But it's when it's done well. Yeah, I really I
- 18:31Speaker 2: think my friend was green Peace. You know, get a piece.
- 18:33Speaker 2: I'm I agree, and you can tell you he's really
- 18:35Speaker 2: stoked a little of zingers and he's coming up with it.
- 18:37Speaker 2: But honestly, so was I I love.
- 18:40Speaker 1: His vision of the forty four film Festival was oh
- 18:42Speaker 1: yeahause the.
- 18:43Speaker 2: DVD islary.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Time has gone by and everyone just left film ships
- 18:53Speaker 1: at the festival.
- 18:55Speaker 2: I'm sure there are more and we will get to
- 18:57Speaker 2: the man get to them. But what did you enjoy?
- 18:58Speaker 1: Well, my other home and was him? I wanted to
- 19:01Speaker 1: be famous for catching Santa Corus. I'd be famous for
- 19:05Speaker 1: being me for catching satday course and the gasping. But
- 19:10Speaker 1: you need to limit your gasping where it's such a
- 19:11Speaker 1: high actually eight years old. If you're a fan of

- 19:47Speaker 2: All right?
- 19:48Speaker 1: It's trivia time. My first question for you, mister Davis,
- 19:51Speaker 1: is what is the headline of the newspaper when they're
- 19:53Speaker 1: talking about they hold up something that has Homer on.
- 19:56Speaker 2: It, Oh, the news or something? Yeah? Uh, local man
- 20:01Speaker 2: reason because beer is banded, aquarium or something.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Just as a querm to stop serving beer.
- 20:06Speaker 2: That's ok. Yeah, because he's in bunching with local man
- 20:09Speaker 2: ruins everything. What's on Molman's apron?
- 20:15Speaker 1: Oh? Good question, no idea cereal griller? Okay, not bad.
- 20:19Speaker 1: I have another question. What does the sign say at
- 20:22Speaker 1: sun Dance?
- 20:23Speaker 2: A little sub it says do not feed Ben Affleck.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Poor old Ben cops it on every show he really does.
- 20:31Speaker 2: At the same time, you and I both have pretty
- 20:34Speaker 2: good lives. Yeah, would you trade it for Ben Afflex.
- 20:38Speaker 1: If I was single, Yes, I wouldn't trade.
- 20:39Speaker 2: I don't think I trade lives with them. I don't
- 20:41Speaker 2: want to trade life with Matt Damon so I could
- 20:43Speaker 2: hang out with Bennett. I don't want. If it means no,
- 20:46Speaker 2: how long I have Nicola with the kids in my life,
- 20:48Speaker 2: then no, Yes. But I think I think if we're single,
- 20:50Speaker 2: you going with Ben Afleck's life, right, you'd have to.
- 20:53Speaker 1: I think it just seems like such a rollercoaster. You
- 20:56Speaker 1: never know what's gonna happen when you open the door.
- 20:57Speaker 2: It seems like that's such an interesting dude.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, mat David just must look at him and.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Go, ye, crash on the can.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that just wakes up and bends on the couch,
- 21:09Speaker 1: is like, yeah, alright.
- 21:12Speaker 2: In this household we love and respect Ben Affleck. What
- 21:17Speaker 2: scene of Lisa's film has March tenderizing meat?
- 21:21Speaker 1: Ah, so you're going to pick this? Is it one
- 21:24Speaker 1: thirty two? B?
- 21:25Speaker 2: It is?
- 21:26Speaker 1: Yes, Clark was going to be one of my questions
- 21:27Speaker 1: that you've ruined one of mine. So I'll say, what
- 21:30Speaker 1: is this teacher's name, the film teacher? It's Kincaid, Kaid, Yes,
- 21:34Speaker 1: the correct Yeah, and I'm done my questions?
- 21:36Speaker 2: Do you have anymore? I got one more?
- 21:37Speaker 1: Right?
- 21:38Speaker 2: What is Nelson's mum getting with her Laramie Bucks? Ah?
- 21:42Speaker 1: Man, I should know that too. What is it?
- 21:45Speaker 2: It's a golf umbrella?
- 21:46Speaker 1: Golf umbrella? That's right. Okay, it's now time for some
- 21:49Speaker 1: stone cutters.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Stone cutters.
- 21:52Speaker 1: We do indeed love the following people. Katig with her
- 22:03Speaker 1: one hundred support, thank you so much. katG andrews her
- 22:06Speaker 1: with his fifty dollars support. Of course, Zach Pruitt, our
- 22:09Speaker 1: main man here at for a discount, our editor, helps
- 22:11Speaker 1: with the editing. And Andrew Swanny Swan, the Lord of Discord.
- 22:14Speaker 1: He's going to be on a call with me tonight
- 22:16Speaker 1: to help set up the TV channels on my plates.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Then I mentioned one of the recent podcasts.
- 22:22Speaker 2: I felt slightly vindicated. The other day I saw one
- 22:25Speaker 2: of the patrons had mentioned.
- 22:28Speaker 1: The three stories.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Yeah, this is this is the third d down and
- 22:30Speaker 2: that story because not, well, we're recording another podcast. Keep
- 22:34Speaker 2: alluding to it, but you know you'll get to it
- 22:35Speaker 2: when we get to it. I said, you use that
- 22:38Speaker 2: line in both of them, and I edited that both times.
- 22:42Speaker 1: You know, I listed him once and no. The first
- 22:46Speaker 1: one was because it was a mistake because it was
- 22:48Speaker 1: talking about the wrong anniversary date and he set up
- 22:51Speaker 1: after that, so you because it was about the mats,
- 22:53Speaker 1: I was litib bely there'll be no mats, which is
- 22:56Speaker 1: because that was your cover up for getting the anniversary wrong.
- 22:58Speaker 1: So I just added out the whole thing. Scond Onie
- 23:00Speaker 1: was edited act just like O in every podcast.
- 23:03Speaker 2: I just love that line. But it made me feel
- 23:07Speaker 2: good to realize that Dando is also prone to rebeating him.
- 23:10Speaker 1: I think I usually preferce it too by going I
- 23:11Speaker 1: know I've told this before, but I get tired again.
- 23:14Speaker 2: I hear myself saying that, I'm sure I've told this
- 23:16Speaker 2: story before how many times? Yeah? Put that on your
- 23:19Speaker 2: being O card. Guys, I'm sure I've told this one before,
- 23:24Speaker 2: and also yeah, the following people as well. But plex please, yes, good,
- 23:28Speaker 2: don't come to my place next and help me sort
- 23:30Speaker 2: mine out.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Jonathan Rossi, Rached Beasley, Stephen Roberts, Shawn d V, Pete Anderson,
- 23:34Speaker 1: Timothy Belson, Andrew Davis, Ryan Dunlap, Kevin Dantel, Planned Flood,

- 23:55Speaker 1: Dami Miller, and Charlie Joe. Thank you for being top
- 23:57Speaker 1: tier stonecutter. Supporters at four finger discount.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Oh my god, we're cutting in a stone to build
- 24:02Speaker 2: a skyscraper.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Exactly right. Yes, we're very lucky. And of course, if
- 24:05Speaker 1: you have joined us in the last couple of weeks
- 24:07Speaker 1: and you are a five dollar plus supporter but not
- 24:09Speaker 1: on the top tier, you'll get your name right at
- 24:11Speaker 1: the end of the month. All right, let's get into
- 24:13Speaker 1: our review of any given sundance. So the episode originally
- 24:16Speaker 1: aired May the fourth, two thousand and eight Star Wars Day.
- 24:21Speaker 1: The couch Gag The Family is a pop up in
- 24:23Speaker 1: a pitch book not chortboard gag, written by Daniel Chun
- 24:26Speaker 1: and directed by Chuck Sheets.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Is it is an alias for someone doesn't feel like
- 24:32Speaker 2: a real name.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Chuck Sheets, doesn't It Just it reminds you of Chuck
- 24:34Speaker 1: Laurie Chuck? What Chuck is Charlie? What's Chuck short for?
- 24:39Speaker 1: For Charles Charles Charles Sheets. It's a bit of a
- 24:42Speaker 1: tounch Charles Sheets, Charles.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Sheets, imagine he went with Chuck Sheets. But the same time,
- 24:46Speaker 2: it feels there's like a character in like an eighties
- 24:50Speaker 2: teen bona freck co.
- 24:52Speaker 1: It reminds you of something that what's the dude from
- 24:54Speaker 1: two families. Charlie Sheen would actually play of Chuck Sheets.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Oh no, no, I don't. I don't think it sounds
- 24:59Speaker 2: like the cool guy. I think it sounds like the
- 25:01Speaker 2: cool I Reckon's the nerd who like shit the bad ones.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Like he had the Chuck sheets. So now we've got
- 25:07Speaker 2: to call cherk sheets. Look at the Cherk sheets. And
- 25:11Speaker 2: then yeah, by the end, Chuck Sheets becomes like a stud.
- 25:16Speaker 1: I wish I was ever thought of as a stud.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Like that's like the peak of man, right, Like, I
- 25:22Speaker 1: what a stud? If you hear girls call you a study,
- 25:24Speaker 1: You're like, I've made it.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I am.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I can't get any better. I'm a stud or a
- 25:28Speaker 1: studd muffin. If're a study muffin, that's what your grandma
- 25:30Speaker 1: calls you, Well.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Yeah, hopefully you don't what your grandma said, Come here,
- 25:36Speaker 2: your big studs.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Nicolay called me a spunk once, and I was like, oh,
- 25:39Speaker 1: take it. Yeah, I heard that.
- 25:42Speaker 2: I heard that once as a teenager and wasn't feeling
- 25:45Speaker 2: particularly you know, up on myself that side, and some
- 25:47Speaker 2: girl said, oh, you're a spunk, And I'm like, wait what.
- 25:51Speaker 1: I overheard nickol like calling me a spunk the night
- 25:53Speaker 1: where we met to one of her friends and I
- 25:55Speaker 1: was like, I'm going to go to that girl.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Half the battles one.
- 26:00Speaker 1: So we kick off at Springfield Stadium. The family are
- 26:03Speaker 1: arriving early because there's a tailgate party. And what childbirth
- 26:06Speaker 1: is to women, eating trunk meats is to the be waned.
- 26:09Speaker 1: So basically, yeah, I just go here tailgating. It seems
- 26:12Speaker 1: like a lot of fun. We din' get flags. Tailgating
- 26:13Speaker 1: is fun. It's been a while since we had his
- 26:15Speaker 1: little flags, isn't it?
- 26:16Speaker 2: It is? And you know how I like flags.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Yes, it's something I ended to bring back because it
- 26:20Speaker 1: always brought me great jo because I never noticed it
- 26:22Speaker 1: as a kid. Then once he pointed it out, I
- 26:24Speaker 1: was like, they're everywhere, and Button Lisa are arguing because
- 26:28Speaker 1: Homo says there's nothing better than this, and they say
- 26:29Speaker 1: anything's better, everything's better. But I think I would love
- 26:33Speaker 1: to experience this. Yeah, as we said, but Ralph, he's
- 26:35Speaker 1: made a Ralph witch and I could have.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Done with it as I've written here enough for the Ralph. Yeah,
- 26:40Speaker 2: they need to move on, And then they follow up
- 26:42Speaker 2: with some sides meal. Yeah not as much side Jo
- 26:45Speaker 2: mail which isn't he That's true and admittedly what they've
- 26:49Speaker 2: got him doing here with his Yeah, it's traditional rival
- 26:54Speaker 2: schools yelling insults in one another, and these are kind
- 26:56Speaker 2: of esoteric and that kind of thing. It makes sense.
- 26:59Speaker 2: It wasn't necessarily they had funny, but I appreciated.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Like the payoff was cuddling at the end, but that
- 27:04Speaker 1: the payoff was worth it.
- 27:04Speaker 2: That was good. Yeah, but I appreciated what they were
- 27:06Speaker 2: going for, even if you know the execution wasn't quite right.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Yeah. I also like mooching, which is what Hammer and
- 27:12Speaker 1: Bart do here as well. Don't bring in the meat,
- 27:14Speaker 1: that's moo mooch off the mole man.
- 27:16Speaker 2: I've been known to mooch. There's mooching, and then there's
- 27:19Speaker 2: this outright theft, which you know, you grab a stag
- 27:21Speaker 2: off someone's I guess, so, yeah, gave a mole man's meat.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Yes, So margin Maggie are washing the foam fingers, doing
- 27:30Speaker 1: some chores. Lisa then says she's gonna work on her
- 27:32Speaker 1: school video project, which has to capture the beauty of
- 27:35Speaker 1: the every day in her school film, and she captures
- 27:38Speaker 1: just like a little montage with things Carl and Mal
- 27:40Speaker 1: they were arguing now and hugging the tattoo on the
- 27:42Speaker 1: back of the drunk woman laying on the ground a
- 27:44Speaker 1: turtle on its back, and also Barney laying on his back.
- 27:46Speaker 1: So he's just back to being a drunk again. Revert
- 27:48Speaker 1: about yeah, yep. Lisa then shows the video to mister
- 27:51Speaker 1: Kincaid and this was great, as we're saying earlier, when
- 27:54Speaker 1: you make your first little video whatever, you think it's
- 27:56Speaker 1: the best thing ever made. You think they're gonna love this.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and you give that three stars out of
- 28:01Speaker 1: the three points out of a possible five. She's like, ah,
- 28:05Speaker 1: are you sure? Are you sure I can give it
- 28:06Speaker 1: a two?
- 28:06Speaker 2: I don't. Yeah, there's a great line. Listens to the
- 28:09Speaker 2: show and I'm a big fan of the filmmaker Wes
- 28:11Speaker 2: Anderson in his film The French Dispatch. You've got this
- 28:13Speaker 2: young guy played by Timothy Shallamy, the Shilah buff of
- 28:18Speaker 2: twenty twenty four, not quite a nerd, not quite hunk.
- 28:22Speaker 2: He shows like his political manifesto to this woman and
- 28:25Speaker 2: she actually gives him notes. I just gave it to
- 28:27Speaker 2: you so you could tell me how good it was,
- 28:30Speaker 2: so I didn't expect notes. And I'm like, oh god,
- 28:33Speaker 2: I can relate. It's like when I'm buzzing on the
- 28:35Speaker 2: first draft and someone's like, what do you think of this?
- 28:37Speaker 2: Like I would tell me that I would change this this,
- 28:39Speaker 2: and this's like, well you would, but yes, mister Kinca
- 28:45Speaker 2: gives her three out of out of a possible five.
- 28:48Speaker 1: And yeah, like the quick cut, the man is an idiot,
- 28:51Speaker 1: just telling Skinner that, you know, this is what's kind
- 28:54Speaker 1: of likes it, doesn't he She goes, the guy doesn't
- 28:55Speaker 1: know what he's talking about. It's Kinna actually likes the East.
- 28:57Speaker 2: But he's a frustrated filmmaker. And yes, so yeah, he's
- 29:02Speaker 2: he's really into it.
- 29:03Speaker 1: He's got his emotions, got confidence, he's got mill house.
- 29:07Speaker 2: I did love that. Lisa was just again being a
- 29:09Speaker 2: right nerd. Its like, was it talking about Aristotle's principles
- 29:12Speaker 2: of the story. John, He's like, there are six pillars.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Tell us what you're thinking about drama. Don't give me
- 29:17Speaker 1: the nerd drama in your life. Don't don't tell me
- 29:21Speaker 1: the nerds stuff about you.
- 29:23Speaker 2: But yeah, she can't stop herself. It's the other three
- 29:25Speaker 2: is one.
- 29:27Speaker 1: But no. Cinema is his secret passion. He's written screenplays,
- 29:30Speaker 1: including with Ednam at Seymour Ghost Willy, which pays off later.
- 29:33Speaker 1: And I think one of thee was killing Skinner's mother mother,
- 29:37Speaker 1: Simmer's mother and the principal who sold a screenplay. Yes,
- 29:40Speaker 1: so he's no longer allowed at the Universal A lot?
- 29:42Speaker 1: Was this a jab at Universal in La? I didn't
- 29:46Speaker 1: know it existed either until I heard there was a
- 29:48Speaker 1: second Simpsons World. I didn't know there was a Universal
- 29:50Speaker 1: Studios in l A and you not the one you
- 29:54Speaker 1: went to was the one in Florida Theme Park. I
- 29:58Speaker 1: didn't know there was the one in Florida. I and
- 30:00Speaker 1: I knew there was a thing for it there, but
- 30:01Speaker 1: otherwise thought that's the big one. That the one in
- 30:03Speaker 1: LA's tiny. I'm thinking about the Universal Studios tour. The tour, yeah, yeah,
- 30:07Speaker 1: I didn't know that that. I need the Warner Brothers one.
- 30:10Speaker 1: We did the Warner Brothers one, and.
- 30:11Speaker 2: I was like, Ohio, the Universal Studios Tour in LA
- 30:14Speaker 2: is the one with like the shark.
- 30:16Speaker 1: With the you know letter on, just like, how did
- 30:18Speaker 1: I know this? But there's one in Hollywood because he's
- 30:23Speaker 1: banned from the Yes, yeah, Skinner wants to know that
- 30:27Speaker 1: the drama was already discussed, and she says she's going
- 30:29Speaker 1: to do one better family and he tells me make
- 30:31Speaker 1: a documentary about the family, gives it a key to
- 30:33Speaker 1: the a Vy cage, which has a film nerd. It
- 30:35Speaker 1: was like, well the magic yep. And but he does say,
- 30:38Speaker 1: if you ever win an oscar, you have to give
- 30:40Speaker 1: it to me. She's like, yeah, sure, whatever, especially built cabinets,
- 30:42Speaker 1: cabine makers. They all laughed at me. We come back
- 30:45Speaker 1: from commercial and Lisa is still in the family. I
- 30:47Speaker 1: don't want to say breakfast time.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Okay, everyone just be yourself, don't look at a camera.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Were dad, I'm not here? And No.
- 30:54Speaker 3: Two pays well, and I'm going for a Shila buff thing,
- 30:58Speaker 3: not quite a nerd, not quite a hunk, sh the buff.
- 31:01Speaker 1: That pretty much sums up Shy with the buff right
- 31:03Speaker 1: pretty much.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Yeah, because he's.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Not really doing anything.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Nah.
- 31:06Speaker 1: He sort of honed it on the mean world for
- 31:07Speaker 1: a while, didn't he Like, yeah, well he's.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Kind of gone off the rails and oh yeah, I
- 31:12Speaker 2: mean I think his private life is shall we say,
- 31:15Speaker 2: troubled and turbulent. Okay, yeah, but it was interested when
- 31:18Speaker 2: he was a child star for a while there, and yeah,
- 31:21Speaker 2: like a literal child star, like it's maybe eleven or twelve,
- 31:24Speaker 2: and being on Disney Channel shows and I've been the
- 31:26Speaker 2: scrappy little comedian and then.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I don't know until Transformers.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and then Transformers comes on and it's like you
- 31:31Speaker 2: might want to buff up a little bit, so clearly
- 31:33Speaker 2: hit the gym, and then he was doing other stuff.
- 31:35Speaker 2: He's a really good actor. I mean even in those
- 31:38Speaker 2: Transformers movies. I mean he really commits and.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Yelling out after that was like, okay, he's gone for it.
- 31:43Speaker 1: But one of my favorite memes is him applauding.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Yeah, that's great. Although that whole thing that what was it?
- 31:51Speaker 1: Do yeah, do it? Yeah, But now that the study
- 31:53Speaker 1: you've had applauding, it's just the best. But like here too,
- 31:57Speaker 1: that he's going to all this an onset romance and
- 32:00Speaker 1: Marge referencing sex as snuggle I think it's like the best.
- 32:03Speaker 1: One of the best things that Simpsons have ever done,
- 32:05Speaker 1: have discussed is that they never say they say sex,
- 32:07Speaker 1: but Marge refers to as snuggling. Awesome, I don't think
- 32:10Speaker 1: it's so cute. And we get a montage here the
- 32:13Speaker 1: song here so great spoon, I turned my camera on right.
- 32:16Speaker 1: I really liked it. I thought it fit this montage,
- 32:19Speaker 1: this Spoon.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Sorry, I'm really writing for the Lovely Lays this episode,
- 32:23Speaker 2: but she turned me on the Spoon Good Band.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Yeah. So I watched this rite and realized, particularly in
- 32:29Speaker 1: the latest seasons, I want to do a piece an article.
- 32:32Speaker 1: I feel like the Simpsons, you know, we always talk
- 32:34Speaker 1: about it. It introduces you to various films in the
- 32:38Speaker 1: introduces me to a lot of bands now that I
- 32:40Speaker 1: didn't realize, and songs that I really love. They particularly
- 32:42Speaker 1: use them in montage, just when they But it makes
- 32:45Speaker 1: me go on referencing, look and look it up and
- 32:46Speaker 1: research and go, oh yeah, I like that, And I
- 32:48Speaker 1: find new bands as a result. The Simpsons, not just
- 32:51Speaker 1: film references, musical references. Yeah, I had never heard of Spoon.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Not gonna lie and I don't listen to this, and
- 32:56Speaker 2: I was like, I now like Spoon Good Band. Yeah.
- 32:59Speaker 1: So the family just doing a bunch of random stuff
- 33:01Speaker 1: that wasn't all that funny.
- 33:03Speaker 2: But I've got a nitpick.
- 33:04Speaker 1: I've got a particular one for the end.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Okay, well I've got one from right now. You see
- 33:09Speaker 2: Homer alowing they passed out, got a number of beer
- 33:13Speaker 2: cans around him, five to begin with. Later the cut
- 33:17Speaker 2: back and it's shot from the same angle, but there
- 33:19Speaker 2: are six.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Enough time to sort of sin one in.
- 33:22Speaker 2: I think, don't reckon anyway.
- 33:25Speaker 1: The magic of filmmaking. That's true, but how often do
- 33:28Speaker 1: you watched sitcoms and they have make mistakes like that
- 33:30Speaker 1: because one person took a bite out of something and
- 33:32Speaker 1: they forgot to sort of That's why they say you
- 33:34Speaker 1: should not eat much when you're filming.
- 33:36Speaker 2: A cigar.
- 33:39Speaker 1: A real bite.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, yeah.
- 33:40Speaker 1: But Charmers arrives, you're encouraging students creativity, and he says,
- 33:44Speaker 1: we've got to support Lisa here because we can live
- 33:46Speaker 1: vicariously through her.
- 33:48Speaker 2: So I mean soul that you thought I was angry,
- 33:51Speaker 2: so now legitimately.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Now legitily angry. But he wants to show up the
- 33:54Speaker 1: Creative Arts Academy who have their building made out of
- 33:57Speaker 1: modeling clay.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Yes, and they keep reading Modeling It every afternoon, just
- 34:00Speaker 2: despites despite Charmers.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Yes. Now, what's the film festival that Skinners suggests first?
- 34:06Speaker 1: Because it starts to be I think it's going to go.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Sounds Canadian.
- 34:12Speaker 1: Yeah, But then Chalmers, there's been a Bamshman or whatever.
- 34:14Speaker 1: We're going to go to Sundance with this thing. Oh
- 34:16Speaker 1: you mean the preemptive Film Festival held in January and
- 34:18Speaker 1: Park City, Utah. Was that just a gad to sort
- 34:21Speaker 1: of make everyone aware of what it is?
- 34:22Speaker 2: Yeah? I think so. I think everyone's a really obvious exposition.
- 34:25Speaker 1: I think anyone at least in their teens has at
- 34:27Speaker 1: least heard of Sundance. Right if if you don't really
- 34:29Speaker 1: know what it is, you've just you've heard of sun Dance.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Is Sundance the independent film festival.
- 34:34Speaker 2: I think it's certainly one of the first, and it's yeah,
- 34:37Speaker 2: got a bit of longevity. It helps it. It was established
- 34:39Speaker 2: by Robert Redford.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Oh of course, yeah, because he gets reference later on
- 34:41Speaker 1: an episode, doesn't he?
- 34:42Speaker 2: I think so?
- 34:42Speaker 1: Yeah, because the letters from Robert Redford. Isn't it that
- 34:45Speaker 1: once she gets Yeah, but the school are now not
- 34:48Speaker 1: only the High, have the High the school with the
- 34:50Speaker 1: highest Hampston mortality rate. They're going to be known for
- 34:52Speaker 1: having a successful film. The band are doing the score,
- 34:55Speaker 1: the bullies doing the sound effects. So as we're saying, so,
- 34:59Speaker 1: they're doing this set up hitting Martin. When magicule in
- 35:01Speaker 1: the mate she brings out like a clever or whatever.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Now we're at Sundance and they're going through the various
- 35:09Speaker 1: films which they're going to accept.
- 35:10Speaker 2: We're getting too many mainstream movies.
- 35:12Speaker 3: Where are we going to see a submission with a
- 35:15Speaker 3: sun Dance independent film spirit Paul Gier Marty is the
- 35:20Speaker 3: world's greatest super spine who only exists in the mind
- 35:25Speaker 3: of an overweight, a gooraphobic jazz musician played by Martin
- 35:30Speaker 3: Lawrence in a fat suit. Oh okay, here's one from
- 35:39Speaker 3: Springfield made by a vegetarian, intellectual misfit people. You know,
- 35:45Speaker 3: you have to limit your gaps at this altitude because
- 35:48Speaker 3: oh and she's eight years old.
- 35:52Speaker 1: And then accused of the ambulance and they dead.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Run out of breath.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Yes. So now we're back at home and this is
- 35:59Speaker 1: you're mentioning earlier home. We're going to the mail and
- 36:01Speaker 1: then he's just mocking various charities. Yes, but then Lisa
- 36:04Speaker 1: gets accepted film festival. I just thought one of the
- 36:08Speaker 1: better moments in a while. Now they're driving to sun Dance.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Was this a take on the Shining because it looks
- 36:15Speaker 1: very similar to when the Simpsons are driving in the
- 36:16Speaker 1: shitty yeah, around the cliff good point, Yeah is it?
- 36:21Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 36:22Speaker 1: It kind of looked like it the winder and the
- 36:24Speaker 1: cliff there anyway. So it's where Parker Posey meets Parker
- 36:27Speaker 1: red Poses wants to meet Jim Jaron Mush. We can
- 36:30Speaker 1: ask you who he is. That's funny. It's so true
- 36:33Speaker 1: because it's one of those people, like you said, you
- 36:34Speaker 1: may have heard of him, but you don't actually know
- 36:36Speaker 1: much about it.
- 36:36Speaker 2: It's just a cool name. Yeah, well it's like Jim
- 36:38Speaker 2: Josh Mush, Jimush. Yeah, I actually know who this person is. Hey,
- 36:43Speaker 2: that's him.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Who are you? I'm the guy that can eat onions?
- 36:47Speaker 1: But and I cry, But then he cries because the
- 36:50Speaker 1: last time they were going to see each other. And
- 36:53Speaker 1: you think that's it, but it's not. Lisa is now
- 36:55Speaker 1: handing out the badger so they can get into any
- 36:57Speaker 1: film they want to go see. Marge here goes to
- 36:59Speaker 1: see Regularsville. It sounds like my kind of place.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Oh no, what was it? Yeah, it was a dude
- 37:04Speaker 2: in Dragon, Yeah, in Drag and then.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Uh Candy Family Game now a great family movie.
- 37:09Speaker 2: Oh no, it's able shooting up.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Every title means the opposite of what it means. So
- 37:15Speaker 1: then we graveyard. I think I like this. I didn't.
- 37:18Speaker 2: I was waiting.
- 37:19Speaker 1: I was waiting with a bunch. I was like, I
- 37:21Speaker 1: really heard their nails and they did love I did
- 37:23Speaker 1: all that needed?
- 37:24Speaker 2: Was it? I didn't. I didn't.
- 37:27Speaker 1: This was a good episode, wasn't it.
- 37:28Speaker 2: It was a lot of good stuff in it.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Yeah, Lisa's now it stands top of Lisa's screening and
- 37:33Speaker 1: I didn't like you, but but I mean it fits
- 37:35Speaker 1: the character. But when Scar Chalmers and Skin are trying
- 37:38Speaker 1: to get in and then I have the passes, I
- 37:39Speaker 1: don't know them, I was like, it works again, well
- 37:42Speaker 1: fits the character, but I don't know throw on a bone,
- 37:44Speaker 1: yeah exactly. But then they get put on the sled.
- 37:49Speaker 1: This is actually good playoff too, like the Mormon Church.
- 37:51Speaker 1: This doesn't seem realistic. Oh it's not. You crash you
- 37:54Speaker 1: have lying in countries on a snowbank. Then it's time
- 37:56Speaker 1: for charm Skin Simpson and this is my family. One
- 38:07Speaker 1: two three, another shoot go.
- 38:13Speaker 3: Why life me letters?
- 38:17Speaker 2: We never get more than one move into this change.
- 38:21Speaker 1: What a wonderful film about horrible people. They're like the
- 38:23Speaker 1: family from Helen Acid that's on steroids. You stupid kid.
- 38:31Speaker 1: What if I wanted here barefoot? You did? Dad? Good?
- 38:41Speaker 2: Happy faith?
- 38:41Speaker 1: They Mom, thank you dear what a depressed saying, Oh god,
- 38:47Speaker 1: it's happy birthday. Mom was like, oh that's actually depressing.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Uh.
- 38:51Speaker 1: But then I don't remember what they say about Maje.
- 38:53Speaker 1: But the death to Maggie looks the family are annoyed
- 38:58Speaker 1: by this, obviously, and Lisa says, look, it's all change
- 39:01Speaker 1: in the editing room, edited by Lisa Sinemson. And what
- 39:04Speaker 1: she actually says, yes, proudly edited we come back, and
- 39:09Speaker 1: the family explained that they're all disappointed about it.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Well yeah, and then but said, well, my knew always
- 39:12Speaker 2: near you a lame. I didn't know you were bogus.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Yes, and then want to burn We get the quirky.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Quirky is a grammar who gives people the thing so true.
- 39:19Speaker 1: And he says, you know, you made us look like monsters.
- 39:22Speaker 1: And she says, don't worry because no one's ever going
- 39:24Speaker 1: to really hear about this, you know, like it's just
- 39:26Speaker 1: at the film festival. Cue coming book guy on these websites.
- 39:29Speaker 4: Yes, Lisa Simpson's unflinching, darkly comic family portrait is the
- 39:34Speaker 4: can't mishit of the festival land Speeder, Do not benfer
- 39:38Speaker 4: to your nearest cinema to see Lisa Simpsons stab her
- 39:41Speaker 4: family in the back with her camera.
- 39:43Speaker 3: Don't you dare post that review?
- 39:45Speaker 2: I'm sorry you're too late. I have just hit entered
- 39:47Speaker 2: sending the Wi Fi beams along their way.
- 39:49Speaker 1: If I can help it, come here, beams, Come on
- 39:52Speaker 1: where you come? Too many? Then we get a Willie Allen,
- 39:57Speaker 1: we do, Yeah, he's thinking the adopting scarlet Johansson? Is
- 40:01Speaker 1: that so wrong? Should we even go into it?
- 40:04Speaker 2: We should not?
- 40:06Speaker 1: Do you think that's one thing they probably want to
- 40:08Speaker 1: take back now? Or was it by the Oh no,
- 40:10Speaker 1: by this point they're taking the piss out of him.
- 40:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I think so. I think when is this
- 40:15Speaker 2: because I mean eight, yeah, the real current backlashing ongoing
- 40:21Speaker 2: backlashings when I didn't start until what twenties sixteen, twenty seventeen?
- 40:25Speaker 2: Was that okay? Yeah? Yeah, I mean, look, this is
- 40:28Speaker 2: a can of worms that we really shouldn't open. Now
- 40:30Speaker 2: we'll never get all those worms back in, but the
- 40:32Speaker 2: people now want to get But still, I just wanted
- 40:34Speaker 2: to do my Woody Allen personation one more tame I
- 40:36Speaker 2: don't think it's so bad that it won't you know,
- 40:39Speaker 2: Scott's Johnson.
- 40:41Speaker 1: People want to get into the charm skin business and
- 40:44Speaker 1: Skinner the good businessman. Here a ten percent of the
- 40:46Speaker 1: first dollar price European distribution rights and access to the
- 40:49Speaker 1: most exclusively IRP ten at Sundance. And do you think
- 40:51Speaker 1: that something's going to happen? It just you think you
- 40:53Speaker 1: think they're.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Going to sort of be a quirky grammar and give
- 40:56Speaker 2: him the finger. But no, no, he gets into was
- 40:58Speaker 2: it a scary hobos chili tenth?
- 40:59Speaker 1: Yeah, whatever it is. Yeah, everyone just keeps coming up. Skinner,
- 41:03Speaker 1: it does. Yeah, now that's time. Reading the Daily Variety.
- 41:06Speaker 1: The Sun Dance Loves Little Backstabber is the headline, and
- 41:09Speaker 1: the crowd will look at them say something dysfunctional. I
- 41:12Speaker 1: love the crowd yelling because they say something to Nelson
- 41:14Speaker 1: as well, say something tragic. But Homer, you know, he
- 41:19Speaker 1: checked my kid. I want you doesn't want to do it.
- 41:21Speaker 1: We pay your salary. I feel like, you know, it's
- 41:26Speaker 1: so often people just feel like they don't own actors,
- 41:30Speaker 1: but actors have to sign things like I said, we
- 41:32Speaker 1: pay your salary. It's like, oh yeah, but they're also
- 41:33Speaker 1: providing entertainment. Yeah.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Yeah. In my ongoing bid to to remain relevant as
- 41:39Speaker 2: I reached the end of my life only fans, I'm
- 41:45Speaker 2: trying to pay more attention to popular music bands like Spoon,
- 41:48Speaker 2: for instance. Are you aware of the singer songwriter Chapel Rowan.
- 41:54Speaker 2: This person sort of it. She's so innovative and I
- 41:58Speaker 2: listened to one song, I'm like, this is Cindy up
- 42:00Speaker 2: a mit Lady Yaga. There's nothing new that put the
- 42:02Speaker 2: clock in it. But yeah, talented, energetic, a good performer.
- 42:07Speaker 2: She has recently been in the news. He's like, guys,
- 42:10Speaker 2: I know, I know you like the music, and I
- 42:12Speaker 2: know you're like stuff, but you know, please don't come
- 42:13Speaker 2: up in the street give me a selfie, bitch, all
- 42:15Speaker 2: this kind of stuff. You know, I'm kind of a
- 42:16Speaker 2: person with feelings. Everyone's going, fuck you.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Bitch, so self dis fuck your feelings.
- 42:25Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, it really is kind of a bargain
- 42:27Speaker 2: that or a you know, a weird bargain that you make.
- 42:30Speaker 2: It's like, hmm, yes, I think I'd like to be
- 42:31Speaker 2: in the public eye and famous and recognized for my work.
- 42:33Speaker 2: But at the same time, he'll like Homer in the
- 42:37Speaker 2: in the shower piece. My animal friends guys come on
- 42:41Speaker 2: five minutes.
- 42:44Speaker 1: It would be like con He's top of He's on
- 42:46Speaker 1: top of the world. He just rides the subway and people,
- 42:49Speaker 1: people respect himenough to just going me.
- 42:52Speaker 2: I wouldn't be surprised if he orchestrated that sad meme.
- 42:57Speaker 2: It's like he might be sad today you're living. He's
- 43:01Speaker 2: probably a.
- 43:03Speaker 1: You suckers for fools, spit three the key. I'm not sad,
- 43:13Speaker 1: I am kia.
- 43:15Speaker 2: It must be nice, it.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Must be nice. Indeed, But Lisa thinks that perhaps that
- 43:20Speaker 1: you know, maybe I knew all along this was going
- 43:22Speaker 1: to happen. Maybe I'm the monster this film is exposed.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Maybe I wanted to expose my family and expose myself
- 43:26Speaker 1: as the monster. Then Jim Jammers comes to comfort, comes
- 43:29Speaker 1: to the rescue, and he talks about his Chipped by
- 43:31Speaker 1: the dozen three film, which is all dead kids. If

- 44:05Speaker 1: very much similar to the the Barney Gumble film. But yeah,
- 44:09Speaker 1: charm skinn, I like that. That's like, oh yeah, I
- 44:11Speaker 1: never put eggs in one basket two buses. Skinner game
- 44:14Speaker 1: didn't really work. I don't think it's just.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Like I didn't hate it, that's right.
- 44:19Speaker 1: But this has this was also really tragic this film.
- 44:22Speaker 1: That's one of the saddest lines I've just heard on
- 44:24Speaker 1: The Simpsons. I like to cry at the ocean because
- 44:26Speaker 1: that my tears feel small. Oh shit, lovely crap. At
- 44:30Speaker 1: least it realizes maybe you know that people are the
- 44:32Speaker 1: bigger family issues. You know why am I so worried
- 44:35Speaker 1: about mine?
- 44:36Speaker 2: Oh? By the way, another film nerd Reverence. The very
- 44:39Speaker 2: last shot of Nelson's film where he's standing in the
- 44:42Speaker 2: ocean and you get the very pretentious Finn on the
- 44:45Speaker 2: end that is a deliberate echo of Francois Truffau's famous
- 44:49Speaker 2: film The four Hundred Blows.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Okay, I'm pretty sure it doesn't. The Barny one end
- 44:53Speaker 1: with Finn as well probably does.
- 44:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it's sort of shorthand for just say the end.
- 44:58Speaker 2: You're in English, just say.
- 44:59Speaker 1: The artistic ending. Yeah, but the festival buzz is a
- 45:02Speaker 1: funny thing. And I like this film way more because
- 45:04Speaker 1: I saw it today. Yes, as we mentioned earlier, Lisa's
- 45:07Speaker 1: film will only be seen now. And Slept flights for
- 45:09Speaker 1: a Leska Airlines and its regional partners actually just partners. Yes.
- 45:13Speaker 4: The point is you made a great movie and you
- 45:15Speaker 4: ought to be proud and now, like the best independent films,
- 45:19Speaker 4: I must fade out with a cool dissolve.
- 45:23Speaker 1: Ow. That hurts silly, but it just seemed to work.
- 45:27Speaker 1: It just seemed to work.
- 45:28Speaker 2: Well, it's him just being you know, cool wise, yeah,
- 45:32Speaker 2: but also taking the.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Piss out of him. Yes, exactly. Yeah, and Nelson's now
- 45:36Speaker 1: popular with his mum. There say something poor.
- 45:39Speaker 2: What I really enjoyed was then posing for the paparazzi.
- 45:42Speaker 2: I really love the poses that Nelson was striking to
- 45:44Speaker 2: just go.
- 45:44Speaker 1: He is having a great time, wasn't he?
- 45:45Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 45:46Speaker 1: Yeah, And then his.
- 45:46Speaker 2: Mom did like a karate post like Charlie's Angels or something.
- 45:49Speaker 2: That's great.
- 45:50Speaker 1: But the Simpsons now kind of missed being in the limelights.
- 45:53Speaker 1: And this is that I didn't see this gag coming.
- 45:55Speaker 1: I should have seen it coming from a mile away.
- 45:57Speaker 1: But they're like, you know, Homerson, maybe can do another
- 46:00Speaker 1: movie March, see no more Simpsons movies. One was plenty. Yes,
- 46:03Speaker 1: didn't see it coming, but it worked. It was well played.
- 46:07Speaker 1: But I think this is where Lisa says I know
- 46:08Speaker 1: that you love me, and vice versa, even though we
- 46:11Speaker 1: just show it in a quirky way, a little call
- 46:12Speaker 1: back to the Queens work. And this is where John
- 46:15Speaker 1: c and we get a nice, little soft sweet music
- 46:17Speaker 1: and it's it's like, oh, it's not a nice ending.
- 46:18Speaker 2: You actually told a story you've finished at the beginning,
- 46:23Speaker 2: a middle, and an end un present.
- 46:27Speaker 1: Then John c Riley appears and he wants to be
- 46:29Speaker 1: in the charm skin business as well. I am ghost really?
- 46:32Speaker 1: Who I am ghost? Really? Seems kind of needy see
- 46:36Speaker 1: you on the set. So they give him the gig
- 46:39Speaker 1: and over the credits, Skinner and charmers, the glass can't
- 46:42Speaker 1: Why can't you be a gentle Clinkland And that's the end.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Good episode, Good episode, any given sun Dance. Yeah, well,
- 46:48Speaker 2: I think I was a little concern going in. I thought,
- 46:50Speaker 2: you know, not that I dislike Lisa episodes, but or
- 46:53Speaker 2: Lisa sort of focused episodes.
- 46:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:56Speaker 2: Sometimes I can be a bit preachy, a bit didactic,
- 46:58Speaker 2: but no, this one was what was kind of fun.
- 47:00Speaker 1: It was nice to get a story. We like story, Yes,
- 47:04Speaker 1: we do like stories, as would say I like stories. Yes,
- 47:08Speaker 1: I just think that this is an episode that you
- 47:10Speaker 1: appreciate a lot more the older you get. Yeah, because
- 47:14Speaker 1: as a kid, I can see what I would have
- 47:15Speaker 1: been what not a kid by this time have been
- 47:19Speaker 1: twenty But I actually I don't remember watching this one.
- 47:22Speaker 1: I remember charm skin being a thing. I could not
- 47:25Speaker 1: tell you what it was on the front. But maybe
- 47:26Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe I thought it was a different episode.
- 47:28Speaker 1: I always whenever I think of documentaries, I think of
- 47:31Speaker 1: that one that features Eric from Monty Python and that
- 47:34Speaker 1: one I just didn't really know.
- 47:35Speaker 2: They weren't great.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Yeah, it wasn't great anyway, Good episode, any given Sundance indeed,
- 47:40Speaker 1: what do we learn bomb esp what you learned from episode?
- 47:42Speaker 2: Mister Davis, under no circumstances should you feed Ben Affleck?
- 47:47Speaker 1: Ah? Well, if you were invited to a dinner for
- 47:50Speaker 1: Ben or Ben texts you right and it said take
- 47:54Speaker 1: me somewhere, where are you taking Ben Afflet for food Duncan?
- 47:57Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 47:59Speaker 1: That just seems like he's hanging it, doesn't it tracks.
- 48:04Speaker 1: I'm sure I've talked o'clock shadow again. Put it on
- 48:07Speaker 1: your being o Card. I'm sure I've told this story before.
- 48:09Speaker 1: But there's the clip from SNL when Casey Affleck was
- 48:11Speaker 1: hosting and they did.
- 48:12Speaker 2: Like a short video him. It's just this Boston dirt
- 48:16Speaker 2: bago hung out of Duncan Donuts. All that one of
- 48:18Speaker 2: the funniest fucking things. Casey Affleck, very funny guy. Ben Affleck,
- 48:22Speaker 2: very funny guy. But yeah, i'd take him to Duncan.
- 48:24Speaker 1: Casey Affleck seems like a guy that would be more
- 48:25Speaker 1: of the loose cannon. Though if you went out, I
- 48:27Speaker 1: feel like he's going to be the problem.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Apparently.
- 48:29Speaker 1: So I learned that you can never topple and they
- 48:34Speaker 1: will always be king director's commentary deleted scenes. I can
- 48:39Speaker 1: take a gift whatever. Director's commentary always the King.
- 48:42Speaker 2: It's a bit of a winner on the when you
- 48:44Speaker 2: you know you pick it up the increasingly bare shells
- 48:47Speaker 2: JB or somewhere else smaller and small well, I mean
- 48:49Speaker 2: I'm a member of the Facebook group.
- 48:51Speaker 1: That's I mean there putting out like stops, short stores gone,
- 48:56Speaker 1: or taking like sad photos. This used to be the
- 48:59Speaker 1: the av sex of the JB. It's not there and
- 49:02Speaker 1: any cuts to the cloud.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Just a single tear rolling down the cheek. But yeah,
- 49:07Speaker 2: I mean when you're grabbing off the shops like director's commentary. Okay, yeah,
- 49:11Speaker 2: I mean.
- 49:12Speaker 1: It's my favorite special feature special director's commentary for me,
- 49:15Speaker 1: I reckon So that are a good making of doco
- 49:17Speaker 1: making of Yeah, yeah, I do love making it for me.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Though if I'm buying something up making of, I'll probably
- 49:22Speaker 1: buy it. It's going to making of a good one.
- 49:23Speaker 1: I look at the length as well, because now they
- 49:24Speaker 1: put the length it was like forty five minutes plus.
- 49:26Speaker 1: You know it's going to be a proper one, absolutely,
- 49:28Speaker 1: not just one of those spots where it's like, oh
- 49:30Speaker 1: he was so great to wake one.
- 49:31Speaker 2: Of those ten minute things. Now they were paying the
- 49:32Speaker 2: ass I was looking through old tweets the other day
- 49:36Speaker 2: because I have got a big ego and B it
- 49:38Speaker 2: was research your old tweets, my old twist yea yea
- 49:40Speaker 2: yea yeah yeah, Well I'm going to read other people
- 49:42Speaker 2: forget about it. I own this movie on DVD called
- 49:48Speaker 2: Bad Dreams. It's like a Nightmare on Elm Street.
- 49:50Speaker 1: And I know bad Dreams dream.
- 49:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, good movie and when it was broad.
- 49:54Speaker 1: Also a good local Australian band. They're still a band,
- 49:57Speaker 1: but they were when I used to be on radio.
- 49:58Speaker 1: They were a good band. I like them bad dream
- 50:00Speaker 1: I've never heard of the band, just an independent Australian band.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Really liked the from adelaideykay continue, I'm gonna.
- 50:07Speaker 2: Have to look them up on one of my a
- 50:11Speaker 2: music streaming.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Service back when used to be check us out on
- 50:15Speaker 1: tip j onearthed, oh.
- 50:18Speaker 2: Check us in and band camp.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Still a band, I'm just looking just looking up here
- 50:23Speaker 1: directly a Bad Dreams is an Australian rock band from Adelaide.
- 50:26Speaker 1: I was right and it says is and are so
- 50:29Speaker 1: they are still a band. They formed in twenty eleven,
- 50:31Speaker 1: released a debutp in twenty thirteen. Four Studio albums. Now
- 50:35Speaker 1: we've all reaching the top forty in the Area charts.
- 50:37Speaker 1: A poor formed alongstid of the likes of Midnight Oil,
- 50:40Speaker 1: DM as a Scientists and the Chats. Yeah, well the
- 50:43Speaker 1: Chats my boys.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Yeah, bad Dreams still kicking goals after all these years.
- 50:47Speaker 1: I was big in the local music scene fifteen years ago,
- 50:51Speaker 1: like it was my thing. I was know as like
- 50:52Speaker 1: the local music guy. People like, I mean, he'll always
- 50:55Speaker 1: be the kim Pipers to say to me, you're kind
- 50:57Speaker 1: of like the Malagium of like today, And I was like,
- 50:59Speaker 1: I can hopefully I don't pull my pants on the
- 51:02Speaker 1: stage when I'm mold up.
- 51:02Speaker 2: But not making any guarantees.
- 51:05Speaker 1: But you watch old school Molly Marrigement, it's like the
- 51:07Speaker 1: guy had no idea what he was doing. He was
- 51:09Speaker 1: drunk at the time, but he knew what he was doing.
- 51:11Speaker 1: But it wasn't it wasn't professional. It was just a
- 51:14Speaker 1: mate on TV. And that's what people liked about it.
- 51:16Speaker 1: He had a strong enough base knowledge, but most of all,
- 51:18Speaker 1: he had enthusiasm.
- 51:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Yeah, so I think we should get all bands on
- 51:22Speaker 1: the show. It's a good idea, yeah anyway.
- 51:24Speaker 2: But yeah, Bad Dreams not necessarily huge. It necessarily a
- 51:29Speaker 2: critical success. But you know, those who know it know it.
- 51:31Speaker 2: But yeah, when it was brought out on DVD, it's like,
- 51:33Speaker 2: this's got a director's commentary, this has got a whole
- 51:35Speaker 2: lot of behind the scenes stuff. It's got, you know,
- 51:36Speaker 2: a couple of trailers. They know what they're doing, a
- 51:39Speaker 2: music video for it's and this is a film that
- 51:41Speaker 2: you didn't really go any the eighties, didn't. It was
- 51:43Speaker 2: like eighty eight. Yeah, so you look now it's like, okay, furiosa,
- 51:48Speaker 2: this should be a big title, a lot of stuff
- 51:50Speaker 2: on it.
- 51:50Speaker 1: There's not much a trailer the digital download I want
- 51:55Speaker 1: that give me, Yeah, just commentary making of you and
- 52:00Speaker 1: your set. That was it. Our pals and Entertainment know
- 52:03Speaker 1: exactly what they're doing. They really do.
- 52:06Speaker 2: They genuinely do. Actually, actually they really do, because you
- 52:09Speaker 2: know they hire people like your strongly to provide some
- 52:13Speaker 2: of that contact. Umm, that was a really we added
- 52:16Speaker 2: a bit. How appropriate that we added extra features to
- 52:20Speaker 2: the what you've learned? How about I think that might
- 52:23Speaker 2: have been your plan from the get go. Yeah, so
- 52:26Speaker 2: that's what I learned, and that's what you learned, and
- 52:28Speaker 2: now you know it too.
- 52:29Speaker 1: Now I am about to learn who is going to
- 52:32Speaker 1: be getting three points in the Great Davis New Name Championship.
- 52:35Speaker 2: That was a pretty silky segue by.
- 52:38Speaker 1: I tried that. I was like through the weeds.
- 52:41Speaker 2: I got it, I made it, I landed the plane.
- 52:43Speaker 2: Well done you, I own new names, new name.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Time forward, Your names will be all right. Currently the
- 52:49Speaker 1: board stands at this Mister Davis in first position obviously
- 52:53Speaker 1: is our mad Jared Hornby on twenty three points.
- 52:56Speaker 2: Got twenty three points.
- 52:58Speaker 1: The dead.
- 53:01Speaker 2: It never gets old, except it really does.
- 53:04Speaker 1: In second position we have Adam Wolhouse sorry, in sec
- 53:08Speaker 1: Phil Hawkins on fifteen points, and in third position we
- 53:10Speaker 1: have Adam Moorehouse on fourteen points.
- 53:12Speaker 2: You made Adam all excited then second anyway, I.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Made Phil go wait a minute, wait up minute time
- 53:18Speaker 1: number two. Do you think people get genuinely annoyed? If
- 53:20Speaker 1: I suppose they're putting lots of effort to come up
- 53:23Speaker 1: with these names. If I fucked that up, it would
- 53:25Speaker 1: ruin Phil's day. They would ruin Phil's next five minutes.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Okay?
- 53:31Speaker 3: Uh?
- 53:32Speaker 2: One point in the new Name Challenge for any given
- 53:36Speaker 2: sun dance goes to fifteen minutes of shame.
- 53:39Speaker 1: Oh not bad from Rage Beasley Rag another one point
- 53:43Speaker 1: of what on Rachel? I think she's on two points.
- 53:44Speaker 2: Now good John and rage two points goes to well
- 53:49Speaker 2: Rache Beasley, but also to the Sundance kid.
- 53:53Speaker 1: That's what's our man?
- 53:54Speaker 2: His name, he's jeered, he's got to him my buns.
- 53:58Speaker 1: I think that means he wins now right, he's less
- 54:02Speaker 1: unless our next one is our man Phil with the
- 54:05Speaker 1: three pointer.
- 54:05Speaker 2: Let's see what happens.
- 54:06Speaker 1: I still don't think you can catch up now. I
- 54:08Speaker 1: think that's that's enough, just episodes left, so I think
- 54:12Speaker 1: I think it is.
- 54:17Speaker 2: Still keep putting names in jar because we like, we
- 54:21Speaker 2: just like singing that song. Three three three points, yeah,
- 54:25Speaker 2: three points go to sundance, bloody sundance.
- 54:29Speaker 1: What's a good one with our man Steve Roberts, I
- 54:32Speaker 1: mean Steve, I don't think he's working in the factory anymore.
- 54:34Speaker 1: We used to call us on.
- 54:35Speaker 2: Oh, that's right, he'd be operating heavy machinery while calling
- 54:38Speaker 2: us on zoom and yeah, we was afraid he was
- 54:41Speaker 2: going to lose a digit or an eye or burn
- 54:43Speaker 2: the factory down. But he's still there and he's still
- 54:47Speaker 2: giving it.
- 54:47Speaker 1: Oh, it doesn't work if it's not Jared, so he
- 54:52Speaker 1: is now in eight points. Well I'm Steve and man
- 54:55Speaker 1: Steve all right, so lived the world now third position.
- 54:58Speaker 1: We have adamoal House on four. Unfortunately Phil our Man
- 55:01Speaker 1: didn't get any points oh boy this week, so he's
- 55:03Speaker 1: still stuck on the fifteen and Jared hornby ten points.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Clear now in.
- 55:08Speaker 2: Two episodes to go, as I like to say, it
- 55:13Speaker 2: was my understanding there would be no mad six points.
- 55:17Speaker 2: He said, we're gonna catch up to ten points. I
- 55:18Speaker 2: believe that six is less than ten. So look, we're
- 55:22Speaker 2: not going to name a winner at this stage or
- 55:24Speaker 2: do that at the very end of the race. But yeah,
- 55:27Speaker 2: his name is Jared and he looks like he's than
- 55:30Speaker 2: you did. But we'll announced that properly when or when
- 55:34Speaker 2: it's all when it's all done and un you say
- 55:37Speaker 2: said and done out say sun dance, but said and
- 55:39Speaker 2: done couldn't come out properly. Yeah, I've got I've got
- 55:42Speaker 2: problems with words.
- 55:43Speaker 1: What was that? What did you have for breakfast? See
- 55:45Speaker 1: garbing out for a nice breakfast? Pull the curtain back.
- 55:47Speaker 1: We record the new names a couple of days after,
- 55:49Speaker 1: just to give you guys the next couple of days.
- 55:51Speaker 1: Could we record on the Monday the main review on
- 55:53Speaker 1: the Wednesday morning, we do the new names. Just to
- 55:56Speaker 1: give you guy a couple of extra days to put
- 55:57Speaker 1: in some some some chances. That's correct, some entries. But
- 56:00Speaker 1: going out for a lovely breakfast with Louise today.
- 56:02Speaker 2: I did with not just Louise, but two of her
- 56:05Speaker 2: kids because at the school holidays, her brother and her dad.
- 56:08Speaker 2: Who is saying, I'm going have for breakfast every day,
- 56:12Speaker 2: kids feel free to join.
- 56:13Speaker 1: Me even when you can or feel like goes every
- 56:15Speaker 1: day for breakfast.
- 56:16Speaker 2: Well he just goes down to the Condinua Cafe and
- 56:18Speaker 2: every day, well he's not far from there, and he
- 56:20Speaker 2: has a cup of teen. He knows the guy who
- 56:21Speaker 2: runs the place.
- 56:22Speaker 1: And there's a guy he knows a guy.
- 56:24Speaker 2: He knows a guy who's willing to put a bit
- 56:26Speaker 2: of bacon and eggs on the grill. So we did that. Well,
- 56:29Speaker 2: I mean I had a little time before we started recording.
- 56:32Speaker 2: Wednesday is traditionally lose day off the kids are on
- 56:34Speaker 2: school holidays. We said, so it was like, well, this
- 56:38Speaker 2: is the one day that we're not recording our new
- 56:40Speaker 2: podcast that we have to do at a specific time
- 56:42Speaker 2: on a specific day. More information to come. I keep
- 56:45Speaker 2: looking at it. So yeah, it went down to the
- 56:52Speaker 2: Codinua Cafe on Latrobe here in Geelong, Gelong reference for
- 56:56Speaker 2: Geelong people had sausage's knes. It was a very traditional
- 57:00Speaker 2: I mean it was not like not like fancy. It
- 57:03Speaker 2: was just like you know, it was like I was
- 57:05Speaker 2: a truckee on the road roadhouse. Yeah, but even Roadhouse
- 57:09Speaker 2: started to fancy this ship up, this bit fancy. Yeah,
- 57:11Speaker 2: this is just you know, you got to the places
- 57:15Speaker 2: I'll have the big breefast and you get fancy sausages
- 57:17Speaker 2: and what have you done with? What have you sprinkled
- 57:20Speaker 2: on these eggs? This was like he's some scrambled snags.
- 57:22Speaker 2: He's a couple of snags that looked like the pack
- 57:24Speaker 2: of ten that you get the no name making a
- 57:27Speaker 2: bit too crispy. The bag looked really good. I just
- 57:29Speaker 2: had sausages and eggs on and it wasn't on sourdough.
- 57:33Speaker 1: It was on that's the thing off this hour. It
- 57:35Speaker 1: was on plain tip top with a bit of butter bread.
- 57:41Speaker 1: I'll tell you what. It was fucking delicious. It was
- 57:43Speaker 1: really nice, just the way Mama used to make it.
- 57:49Speaker 2: You'll take that like ap So, yeah, this was really good.
- 57:52Speaker 2: So yeah, I'm feeling quite energized because I had a
- 57:54Speaker 2: good Aussie breakfast in good company, couple of snags in
- 57:56Speaker 2: the morning, a couple of snags and coffee. Yeah.
- 57:59Speaker 1: The smell of sauce. What does that remind you the
- 58:01Speaker 1: most of sausages? For me, it reminds walking into Bunnies
- 58:04Speaker 1: on Oh okay, yeah, I was like, we're at Bunnies.
- 58:06Speaker 1: You can smell the barbecue. Reminds me of walking down.
- 58:09Speaker 2: Packer giving a gold coin donation to Nikola.
- 58:13Speaker 1: And my wife.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Here you go, you earn this all right?
- 58:18Speaker 1: So the next episode I've seen nineteen minutes shall be
- 58:21Speaker 1: reviewing is Mona Leaves It. I believe this may be
- 58:24Speaker 1: the finale of Homer's mark. Oh, I know she meets
- 58:28Speaker 1: her demise at some point soon. Her name is Mona
- 58:31Speaker 1: and it says Leaves in the title.
- 58:33Speaker 2: Wow. Could they could be calling their shot at that one?
- 58:38Speaker 2: But no.
- 58:38Speaker 1: The better bit of a roll season nineteen so far
- 58:40Speaker 1: we have not been last couple of weeks.
- 58:42Speaker 2: Terribly disappointed were the I think the theme of these
- 58:45Speaker 2: last few weeks that wasn't bad, but that was all right.
- 58:48Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong. We've had some shit episodes this sea.
- 58:50Speaker 1: We've had some shock the last three. I feel like
