- 1:04Speaker: It's so awesome to have you.
- 1:06Speaker: Oh,
- 1:06Speaker 2: I'm so glad to be here.
- 1:07Speaker 2: So good to see you.
- 1:09Speaker: Yeah.
- 1:09Speaker: We kind of We've done the Facebook thing, haven't we?
- 1:12Speaker 2: Yeah, we've seen each other from time to time, done a little networking fun stuff and- Yeah,
- 1:15Speaker: yeah
- 1:16Speaker 2: but yeah, we get to talk for, for real now, so this is kind of fun.
- 1:19Speaker: That's Yeah, and I was But off the air I was telling her how I love her voice, and I'm in radio, and I'm like,"Man, you got a radio voice." Thank you.
- 1:25Speaker: So now Lisa also has a podcast, but I'm gonna make her go back to the roots of her business- Sure because I know she's talked about it on her podcast, but I think we've got a gem here.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Mm.
- 1:37Speaker: There's someone listening, Lisa, that's gonna need to hear your story.
- 1:41Speaker: So what Give us the kind of the lowdown of how you came to a point where you needed to pivot.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Well, let me tell you how I got to the place where I'm willing to share, and then I'll
- 1:54Speaker: go- That's beautiful.
- 1:56Speaker: Thank you They'll be a part of it.
- 1:57Speaker: Yeah, that's so beautiful.
- 1:58Speaker: Yes.
- 1:59Speaker 2: So about five years ago, I was working part-time in healthcare And, uh, it was just about a year after the COVID shutdowns.
- 2:08Speaker 2: And, um, the medical industry was changing.
- 2:11Speaker 2: We were Our, our jobs were changing.
- 2:13Speaker 2: The workload was changing.
- 2:14Speaker 2: And, um, I began to do a lot of stuff in office.
- 2:18Speaker 2: And, and I am not an in-office data entry kind of person.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Can you feel that?
- 2:23Speaker 2: Are you picking up what I'm putting down here?
- 2:24Speaker 2: I'm picking up
- 2:24Speaker: on that, yeah.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Little square peg, round hole situation there.
- 2:27Speaker: Yeah.
- 2:28Speaker 2: And, uh, and so I just really began to pray about whether or not I should keep doing that or if there was something else the Lord wanted me to do.
- 2:33Speaker 2: And sure enough, He said,"Go home." Wow.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Um, and I kind of felt a little bit like Abram who's, like, telling me to go but I didn't really know why I was having to go.
- 2:41Speaker: Wow.
- 2:42Speaker: Yeah.
- 2:42Speaker 2: So came home and, uh, and prayed.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And thought,"You know, there's been a lot of stuff going on in my life.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Maybe I'm just supposed to write a memoir." Now, I am not a writer.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Um, I do not even like to take down the order before we order pizza.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I know.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I, I'm not a writer.
- 2:58Speaker 2: But I did come home.
- 2:59Speaker: Yeah.
- 3:00Speaker 2: And I took a little six weeks course, um, on, you know, making up the setting and, you know, how to, you know, chronologically prepare to write and some stuff like that.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:10Speaker 2: So it's good.
- 3:11Speaker 2: It reminded me of my creative, m- you know, creative writing class in high school.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Which I hated.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Um, but I did sit down.
- 3:18Speaker 2: And I did kinda learn a little bit.
- 3:19Speaker 2: And I just prayed, and prayed, and prayed.
- 3:20Speaker 2: And w- and, and then it was staring at a blank screen trying to figure out what to talk about.
- 3:24Speaker: Oh.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Um, I homeschooled 25 years.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I could have talked about that journey.
- 3:28Speaker 2: And I know there's a lot of people that would have looked at it.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Whoa.
- 3:30Speaker 2: You know?
- 3:30Speaker 2: Whoa.
- 3:31Speaker: Saluting you.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Um, I had special needs kids.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Wow.
- 3:33Speaker 2: They were all three adopted.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Wow.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I'd gone through infertility.
- 3:36Speaker 2: We were an interracial family.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Right.
- 3:37Speaker 2: There were just all of these things I could have talked about.
- 3:40Speaker 2: And nothing felt right.
- 3:41Speaker: Okay.
- 3:42Speaker 2: And then I was praying one day with a partner.
- 3:44Speaker 2: And she said in her prayer And this was when the Spirit just The wall started falling.
- 3:50Speaker: Yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 2: She said in this prayer,"I know, Lord, that the place you have redeemed Lisa the most is probably the place she needs to be reaching out to others."
- 3:59Speaker: Oh.
- 4:00Speaker 2: And then it made perfect sense.
- 4:01Speaker: Yeah.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I had been abandoned by my father when I was two.
- 4:04Speaker: Mm.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I had lived the life of a harlot because my self-worth was so bad.
- 4:08Speaker: Oh, bless you.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I had created my own shame.
- 4:11Speaker: Yeah.
- 4:11Speaker 2: And my own guilt.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:12Speaker 2: And my own diseases because of my behavior.
- 4:16Speaker 2: And somewhere along the line the Lord said,"I want you to forgive him-
- 4:21Speaker: Ooh.
- 4:21Speaker: Wow
- 4:22Speaker 2: for leaving you."
- 4:23Speaker: That's a tough one.
- 4:24Speaker 2: And I did.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Wow.
- 4:25Speaker 2: And He equipped me to do it.
- 4:26Speaker 2: But it took four decades.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:28Speaker 2: And it also took four decades for me to forgive the man, one man in particular but several, who had abused me physically- Sure when I was just a little bit, little girl.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I was five years old.
- 4:39Speaker: Oh, wow.
- 4:40Speaker 2: And so I knew God had, had done that for me.
- 4:43Speaker 2: And I had lived in that freedom for a long enough time that I reali- I, I'd kind of forgotten how hard it had been not to be free- Yeah for all that time.
- 4:51Speaker: Yeah.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And he reminded me.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Wow.
- 4:53Speaker 2: "There's a lot of you out there that don't understand that when I command free- forgiveness, when I say to you,'Forgive 70 times 7.'" Wow.
- 5:01Speaker 2: "When I say to you,'Forgive and I can forgive you.'"
- 5:06Speaker: Yeah.
- 5:06Speaker 2: When I say that to you, I'm not just commanding it without understanding the trauma that's there." Right.
- 5:10Speaker 2: "And that it's gonna be hard."
- 5:12Speaker: Right.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I'm, I'm gonna give you a step-by-step process." Mm-hmm.
- 5:15Speaker 2: "To draw closer to me and have the mind of Christ." Yes.
- 5:19Speaker 2: "And see your perpetrator the way that I see them."
- 5:22Speaker: Wow.
- 5:23Speaker 2: And that's what he had done for me.
- 5:24Speaker 2: That's powerful.
- 5:24Speaker 2: And so all of a sudden I was writing Bible studies about the idea- Yeah of being abandoned and forgiving those who had abandoned me, and being molested or abused and finding a way- Yeah to forgive that trauma, and find a purpose for it.
- 5:37Speaker: Yeah.
- 5:38Speaker 2: And
- 5:38Speaker: if- I love you, I love your, you're a storyteller.
- 5:41Speaker: Thank you for- I love storytelling.
- 5:43Speaker: That's
- 5:43Speaker 2: so funny.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Hey, I can talk all day, babe.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I can.
- 5:45Speaker: I love it.
- 5:47Speaker 2: But the writing, no, I'm not really good at that.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Well.
- 5:49Speaker 2: I mean, so what happened was what, what came from that was I gave those Bible studies to pastors that I knew.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:55Speaker 2: That knew me.
- 5:56Speaker: Okay.
- 5:56Speaker 2: And they were all very encouraging and said,"The Bible study work is good.
- 5:59Speaker 2: You're right on target." And in fact, one pastor said,"I've for years had women come into my office and ask how could God allow these things to happen.
- 6:07Speaker 2: And I, not being a molested man." Yeah.
- 6:11Speaker 2: "I could not explain that and answer that for them, and I wish I'd had this resource to show them." how to get from bitterness-
- 6:18Speaker: Yeah
- 6:19Speaker 2: to the freedom that forgiveness offers.
- 6:21Speaker 2: And so he was ri- he was so supportive of that.
- 6:24Speaker 2: That's good.
- 6:24Speaker 2: And, in fact, has got a copy.
- 6:25Speaker 2: You know, he uses that now- Yeah to walk women through it.
- 6:28Speaker 2: But, um, but he said,"It's when you talk that the Spirit- Mm of God seems to go-
- 6:32Speaker: That's so good
- 6:33Speaker 2: into the conversation." Yeah.
- 6:34Speaker 2: And so now I, it's m- you know, the, the whole writing thing, as much as I didn't care to do it, it has morphed.
- 6:42Speaker 2: It's become podcasting.
- 6:44Speaker 2: It's become- Yeah speaking and doing workshops and- So good and one-on-one things with women that need- Yeah the mentoring through the process.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Sure.
- 6:51Speaker 2: 'Cause it's a very dark thing and-
- 6:52Speaker: Yeah.
- 6:53Speaker: For
- 6:53Speaker 2: real and churches aren't really talking much about it.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:55Speaker 2: So.
- 6:56Speaker: Yeah, they're not.
- 6:57Speaker: They're sometimes the ones, the perpetrators.
- 7:00Speaker: So you basically are speaking to the person you once were, but you're giving her the keys,'cause she's- Right in a prison with that
- 7:08Speaker 2: unforgiveness, right?
- 7:08Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:08Speaker 2: She doesn't, most of us don't realize that that bitter...
- 7:12Speaker 2: First of all, society's told us we have permission to stay angry and hurt.
- 7:15Speaker: Mm.
- 7:16Speaker 2: That whole Me Too movement is based on staying a victim.
- 7:19Speaker: Wow.
- 7:20Speaker 2: And I don't s- I don't speak to that.
- 7:22Speaker 2: In fact, when someone comes to me and says,"Here's what happened to me," I'll go,"Now hang on."
- 7:25Speaker: Yeah.
- 7:26Speaker 2: That's not what we're talking about.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I understand it was bad.
- 7:28Speaker 2: You can share with me a little, but we're not gonna glorify that ugliness-" Okay by talking deeply about it."
- 7:34Speaker: Yeah.
- 7:35Speaker 2: We're gonna talk deeply about how God wants to pull you out of there.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Mm.
- 7:37Speaker 2: 'Cause you don't belong there anymore.
- 7:39Speaker 2: You're not the person.
- 7:40Speaker 2: You are not your trauma.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:42Speaker 2: You are a person who was victimized but now can survive.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Let's walk through that process- Yeah of trying to forgive those that are keeping you in bondage.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I had a pastor tell me one time, and man, this is key.
- 7:53Speaker: Yeah.
- 7:53Speaker 2: When you stay bitter-
- 7:55Speaker: Uh-huh
- 7:55Speaker 2: toward those who've offended you, I mean, really offended you, when you stay bitter, it's like you've given your heart to the very person you would never give your heart to.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Wow.
- 8:05Speaker: That's, that's powerful.
- 8:07Speaker 2: And, and that, I, I mean, I was in the middle of curling my hair when I heard that preacher say that on the radio and it hit the floor.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:13Speaker 2: 'Cause I was like- Yeah that is exactly what I've done.
- 8:16Speaker: Yeah.
- 8:16Speaker 2: So yeah, so I began to walk through that process be- at the encouragement of a pastor- Yeah who had said,"Don't give your heart to the very person
- 8:23Speaker: you would never- That's powerful give your
- 8:23Speaker 2: heart
- 8:24Speaker: to."
- 8:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:24Speaker 2: You
- 8:25Speaker: know?
- 8:25Speaker: That's speaking to me with, with my past.
- 8:27Speaker: Um, is it a, I, I'm going to ask you this personally, is it okay if the forgiveness is a process?
- 8:34Speaker 2: Well, I think that, um, we hear so often from the pulpit you have to forgive.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I c- God's commanded us to forgive, so you gotta ke- forgive.
- 8:41Speaker 2: And there might be a good nice long sermon in that.
- 8:44Speaker 2: But, but there's an awful lot of emotion attached to that.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 8:49Speaker 2: And here's the problem.
- 8:49Speaker 2: What's the problem?
- 8:50Speaker 2: Here's the problem.
- 8:51Speaker: Talk to me.
- 8:52Speaker 2: There is a big difference between asking Jesus to be your savior-
- 8:56Speaker: Mm
- 8:57Speaker 2: and making him Lord of your life.
- 9:00Speaker: That, there's a big, very big difference.
- 9:01Speaker 2: There's a very big difference.
- 9:03Speaker 2: A dividing line.
- 9:03Speaker 2: So women-
- 9:04Speaker: Yeah
- 9:04Speaker 2: women who are traumatized come into a salvation experience, and they wanna be forgiven of their own sin.
- 9:10Speaker: Mm-hmm.
- 9:11Speaker 2: But there's a process of growing with the Lord and developing the mind of Christ- Yes and coming to know critical personality qualities of God.
- 9:20Speaker: Yeah.
- 9:21Speaker 2: You have to get to know those and accept them-
- 9:24Speaker: Okay
- 9:25Speaker 2: before you can get to the place where you can forgive the way He forgives.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:28Speaker 2: There's a very popular commentary going around right now that says,"You don't have to forgive if somebody doesn't ask." Hmm.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Now, I'm telling you, I, I'm really praying over this, but I'm gonna say it out loud.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:38Speaker 2: That's a lie.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Yes.
- 9:40Speaker 2: That's a...
- 9:40Speaker 2: Because the command to forgive no- n- does not say, when they come and ask forgiveness.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:45Speaker 2: That's not what the command says, and it's said more than once.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:49Speaker 2: And I think about these situations.
- 9:50Speaker 2: You know, one of my favorite stories is the woman caught in adultery-
- 9:54Speaker: Hmm
- 9:54Speaker 2: in the, in scripture.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Wonderful.
- 9:55Speaker 2: And the reason for that is'cause I was.
- 9:57Speaker 2: I was her.
- 9:57Speaker: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:58Speaker 2: And so when I think about that situation-
- 10:01Speaker: Yeah
- 10:02Speaker 2: she's thrown down on the ground.
- 10:04Speaker 2: The law says she should be stoned.
- 10:06Speaker 2: She was caught in adultery.
- 10:07Speaker 2: By the way, who did they catch in adultery with her?
- 10:09Speaker 2: 'Cause he should've been stoned too.
- 10:11Speaker: Yeah, no doubt.
- 10:11Speaker 2: But that's a whole nother con- That's another podcast.
- 10:15Speaker 2: That's another podcast for another day.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Oh, I love it.
- 10:16Speaker 2: But, so this happens.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:17Speaker 2: And Jesus sees this happens.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Now, I don't know what He was writing in the sand when He starts- Hmm drawing in the sand.
- 10:23Speaker 2: I don't know for sure.
- 10:24Speaker: Mm-hmm.
- 10:24Speaker 2: But He asked her this question,"Where are your accusers?" And she says,"Well, they're not here.
- 10:29Speaker 2: I don't have any accusers." Yeah.
- 10:30Speaker 2: And He says,"Well, I don't condemn you either." Ooh.
- 10:34Speaker 2: "Go and sin no more." Go and sin no more,
- 10:36Speaker: yeah.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Did she ever say,"Please forgive me"?
- 10:40Speaker: Yeah.
- 10:40Speaker 2: But His condemnation was not there.
- 10:42Speaker: Yeah.
- 10:43Speaker 2: So He had to have forgiven her.
- 10:45Speaker: Yes, yes.
- 10:46Speaker 2: So, so I, I do struggle with this whole concept that you, you know, you don't have to forgive someone if they don't ask.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Because I tried that.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I mean, I, I was trying to wait for a dad to come back to me and say,"You know, I really missed out on your life, and I'm sorry for all of that." He wasn't there.
- 11:00Speaker 2: He was a mental case.
- 11:01Speaker 2: He had no, had no idea.
- 11:02Speaker 2: In fact, the very words he said to me when I tried to get back together with him as, as, and build something-
- 11:08Speaker: Yeah
- 11:09Speaker 2: um, on his deathbed, he said to me,"I wouldn't change a thing."
- 11:13Speaker: Ooh.
- 11:15Speaker 2: I thought my mother was gonna come up out of her chair and just beat him s- Yeah senseless because how do you not,
- 11:20Speaker: how do you- How old were you- That kind of- How old were you when you tried to make it right?
- 11:26Speaker 2: Uh, it would pr- I probably was about 24-
- 11:30Speaker: Oh, so-
- 11:30Speaker 2: when I showed up at, uh, an anniversary of his parents.
- 11:34Speaker: Okay.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Surprise.
- 11:36Speaker 2: He hadn't seen me since I was two.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Okay.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Wow.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Uh, I'll take it back.
- 11:39Speaker 2: He'd, he'd seen me when I was nine and accidentally.
- 11:41Speaker 2: My, we sh- yeah, he showed up at an event he wasn't supposed to be at.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Um, but, but, uh, when I came and, and connected with him again, it, it really wasn't a...
- 11:52Speaker 2: I don't think I was trying to throw it in his face like- No, I see and I've said this to myself before,'cause I've had to grow out of my own self-deprivation-
- 11:58Speaker: Okay
- 11:59Speaker 2: and say to myself, you know,"He missed out on a lot." Amen.
- 12:03Speaker 2: 'Cause I was pretty gr- I was pretty great.
- 12:03Speaker 2: You were.
- 12:03Speaker 2: You were.
- 12:04Speaker 2: I just really was.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:05Speaker 2: And so, um, but, but I don't say that prideful.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I mean, it took me years- No and years to get to the place where I realized my value as a daughter of Christ and not just my value based on my father leaving me, you know?
- 12:16Speaker: Yes, yes.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Uh, so, so I tried to, to do some stuff to build a relationship with him, and it just-
- 12:22Speaker: Wow
- 12:23Speaker 2: it just did not work.
- 12:24Speaker 2: It was...
- 12:24Speaker 2: I was okay with him making things up and lying to me because I knew that that was the personality he had.
- 12:30Speaker 2: But when my children were born and they got older and he began to make stories up to them, I couldn't, I couldn't subject them- Oh to that.
- 12:37Speaker 2: That's, yeah, that's rough.
- 12:37Speaker 2: And so I had to have a conversation with him and, and one of his groupies,'cause he was a musician.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 12:43Speaker 2: And, uh, just said,"You guys are...
- 12:45Speaker 2: I'm not- Yeah we're not gonna keep having this talk," so, uh, but, but yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 2: I was in my, I was in my mid-20s when I tried to do something.
- 12:52Speaker 2: But, you know, that left- So- It just left me injured again, you know?
- 12:56Speaker: So- Women, women come to you and- They're looking for transformation.
- 13:02Speaker: They may not have that on their words.
- 13:04Speaker: Mm-hmm.
- 13:04Speaker: And you do mentor, and you do work with these women.
- 13:08Speaker: What is like, what's like the path that you go through?
- 13:11Speaker: I know it's biblical, but what Can you give us an idea?
- 13:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:14Speaker 2: So, yeah.
- 13:15Speaker 2: So the, so basically it's this.
- 13:17Speaker 2: You have to replace the lies you have lived with and believed-
- 13:21Speaker: Wow
- 13:22Speaker 2: with the truth of God's word.
- 13:23Speaker: Amen.
- 13:24Speaker 2: With the truth of who He is and His character.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Mm.
- 13:26Speaker 2: With the truth of what He thinks about you and what He thinks about- Mm your perpetrator.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Mm.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:30Speaker 2: And, and once you get there...
- 13:32Speaker 2: So I always start with the beliefs of, of being unloved.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Mm.
- 13:36Speaker 2: And belie- be- believing that I was unwanted or unseen, that God could have just allowed things to happen to me and turned a blind eye.
- 13:45Speaker 2: You have to address those lies with truth.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Okay.
- 13:48Speaker 2: And so I always start with the emotional stuff.
- 13:51Speaker 2: I don't feel loved, prove to me I am.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Oh.
- 13:54Speaker 2: I don't feel wanted, prove to me I was.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:57Speaker 2: And, and then we get there.
- 13:58Speaker 2: We get to a place where we find gratitude for hard things.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Uh, we get to a place where we find out that we can be equipped by God's spirit- Mm and the truth of knowing Him and relating with Him.
- 14:11Speaker 2: We can get to a place where we forgive- Yeah the way He forgives.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Um, that doesn't mean, and I always tell people this, you know, it, it When you remember those days, when, when they co- You know, I still remember.
- 14:21Speaker 2: There are times when I wake up in the middle of the night and I feel the oppression or the weight of that man on me- Mm.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Wow when I was little.
- 14:27Speaker: Yeah.
- 14:27Speaker 2: But, but I know what to do with it.
- 14:30Speaker: You
- 14:30Speaker 2: know
- 14:31Speaker: what to do with it, yeah.
- 14:31Speaker: I
- 14:31Speaker 2: know, I know what to do with that, that middle of the night attack, when, for lack of a better word, it's, it's an attack.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:37Speaker 2: The enemy would love to keep us in bondage to our bitterness- Yeah and hurt.
- 14:41Speaker 2: That's
- 14:41Speaker: right.
- 14:41Speaker: Yeah.
- 14:41Speaker 2: And so I just call it what it is.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:44Speaker 2: He's trying to thwart- And- the calling of God- Whew to share freedom.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Mm.
- 14:49Speaker 2: And so, um And, and I know that.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:52Speaker 2: And I, I, you know, I've had to say out loud,"I love my abuser."
- 14:56Speaker: Mm.
- 14:57Speaker 2: If, and here's the reason why, and, and usually this, you know, there's a long process to get here.
- 15:03Speaker: Right.
- 15:03Speaker 2: But once you get here, it can make sense to you.
- 15:06Speaker: Yeah.
- 15:07Speaker 2: When you know that God saw what happened because He is- Yeah omnipresent.
- 15:10Speaker: Yes.
- 15:11Speaker 2: When you know that He understands your pain because He has suffered as well.
- 15:15Speaker: Mm-hmm.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Um, when you know that He was there and- Had feelings attached to it because you're His child and He loves you and He watched you suffer.
- 15:27Speaker 2: He does.
- 15:28Speaker 2: And He watched your perpetrator, whom He also loves-
- 15:31Speaker: Wow
- 15:32Speaker 2: do horrific things to someone else He loves.
- 15:35Speaker 2: It's like when you watch one of your kids hurt another one of your kids.
- 15:37Speaker: Mm.
- 15:38Speaker 2: It's hard.
- 15:39Speaker 2: It's hard.
- 15:39Speaker 2: 'Cause you love them both.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:41Speaker 2: And you're tortured by the act that's hurt one.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:44Speaker 2: And you're tortured that one of them would be so, so evil as to do a hurt to that one.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:49Speaker 2: So, so I know that that's w- so once you get to the place where you understand that and can not just, not, I don't wanna say feel it, I don't wanna say, but accept it.
- 16:01Speaker: Accept
- 16:01Speaker 2: it.
- 16:01Speaker 2: And because you're in such good fellowship with God, you understand-
- 16:04Speaker: Yeah
- 16:04Speaker 2: those feelings.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Then you have to say,"Okay, what could possibly be the purpose for this?" There's got, you know.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:11Speaker 2: We think we're not supposed to ask why.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I'm telling you, you can ask why.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Yes.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Jesus asked why.
- 16:18Speaker 2: That's right.
- 16:18Speaker 2: You can ask why.
- 16:19Speaker: Yeah.
- 16:19Speaker 2: And you know what?
- 16:20Speaker 2: You might not get a clear answer.
- 16:22Speaker 2: It might take more fellowship with God.
- 16:25Speaker 2: It might take more- Yeah talking and praying and conversing and reading.
- 16:28Speaker: Yeah.
- 16:28Speaker 2: But there does come a place where you can say, at least for me-
- 16:32Speaker: Yeah
- 16:33Speaker 2: I was able to get to a place where if I saw, if m- if my perpetrator- Mm-hmm sitting in the back of a Baptist church one revival sees my face and the sin he committed against me pass through his mind, and that draws him to Christ because God says He's not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance.
- 16:52Speaker 2: So if, if my face passes through his mind before he goes forward-
- 16:57Speaker: Wow
- 16:57Speaker 2: can I be okay with that?
- 16:59Speaker: Wow.
- 17:00Speaker: Yeah, that's good.
- 17:01Speaker 2: And you do get to a place where you can say yes.
- 17:03Speaker: Let me ask you this.
- 17:05Speaker: What about the abusers who carry the garment of religion, and then they end up using, uh end up being a person of spiritual abuse?
- 17:16Speaker 2: Mm.
- 17:17Speaker: Cause they're, I mean, and you know, the gifts are revocable.
- 17:20Speaker: I mean, so on the outside it, to people it's like, wow, he's so spiritual, but behind the doors there is spiritual abuse, there's emotional abuse.
- 17:28Speaker: Mm-hmm.
- 17:29Speaker: Mm-hmm.
- 17:30Speaker: Ha- ha- has you seen a lot of that or any of that?
- 17:33Speaker: 'Cause that seems to The spiritual abuse thing is really, hits me hard.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:39Speaker 2: I will tell you, I, I do think there's a special place in- For the discipline of those that do that- Wow that do that to people.
- 17:50Speaker 2: That's- I, I don't know what God would do with that, but He does, He's very clear about- That's
- 17:54Speaker: powerful
- 17:55Speaker 2: the legalism in the church.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 17:56Speaker 2: He's very clear about how He didn't come to build a religion.
- 17:59Speaker 2: He came to build relationships- Yes with us.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 18:02Speaker: Amen.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Um, so I do think there is some, you know, God's aware.
- 18:06Speaker 2: And getting to a place where you can understand.
- 18:08Speaker 2: This is the problem.
- 18:08Speaker 2: We're very linear people.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Yes.
- 18:10Speaker 2: We have 24 hours in a day.
- 18:12Speaker 2: We have so many seconds in a minute.
- 18:13Speaker 2: We, we think very linear.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Is that a word?
- 18:16Speaker 2: Linearly?
- 18:17Speaker: Yes.
- 18:18Speaker 2: We, we think along a timeline because we live along a timeline.
- 18:22Speaker 2: God is already in our tomorrows because He can be there-
- 18:27Speaker: Right
- 18:28Speaker 2: in all those places.
- 18:29Speaker 2: So at, a lot of this has to do with surrender.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:33Speaker 2: With my right to get even, my right to see- Sure justice.
- 18:38Speaker 2: You know.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:38Speaker 2: My perpetrator, my father, I, and I've got more than one perpetrator, but the one in particular that I write about in the book, they're dead.
- 18:45Speaker: Yeah.
- 18:45Speaker 2: They're never gonna come to me and say,"Man, I'm sorry I messed you up, kid."
- 18:49Speaker: Wow.
- 18:50Speaker: They're- I can relate to that.
- 18:51Speaker: Mine's dead, too.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:53Speaker 2: So you have to say,"Okay, that mean, when J- God says,'Vengeance is mine,' sayeth the Lord- Yeah'I will repay,' you have to trust Him to do that.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:02Speaker 2: And be okay.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Because otherwise you drive yourself crazy trying to figure out how He's gonna do it.
- 19:06Speaker: Yeah, no.
- 19:06Speaker: It's not worth the time.
- 19:08Speaker 2: And
- 19:09Speaker: He can do that.
- 19:09Speaker: Yeah.
- 19:09Speaker: Mm-mm.
- 19:09Speaker: No.
- 19:09Speaker: Do you have personally- Uh, I don't wanna call it a secret, but something that just Like, for me, it's I gotta have Jesus and coffee every morning.
- 19:20Speaker: Yeah.
- 19:20Speaker: Oh, yeah.
- 19:20Speaker: I mean, that's just, that's my survival guide.
- 19:22Speaker: Mm-hmm.
- 19:22Speaker: But do you have something like that where it's just a place where you go with Him or w- w- what are ways of you just Y- you're, uh, you're beaming with the Word.
- 19:32Speaker: Yeah.
- 19:32Speaker: You're beaming with the Holy Spirit, but is, where's your well for all of that?
- 19:36Speaker: I know it's a relationship with Jesus, but I guess I mean in a physical sense.
- 19:40Speaker 2: So I think, I think for me, I had to stop, and I still struggle with this because- Okay I have s- I'm one of those And I call myself a hurricane of a personality because- I'm one, I'm one of those people that can walk in a room and immediately tell you how to fix your problem.
- 19:59Speaker: I love that.
- 19:59Speaker 2: And, oh, yeah, arrogance is the ba- could be the bane.
- 20:02Speaker 2: So I have to be really humble about that.
- 20:04Speaker: Oh.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Um, sometimes it's a gift.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Like, I have the gift of organization.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:08Speaker 2: I can organize your, your mess like you wouldn't believe.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Would you find anything later?
- 20:12Speaker 2: Probably not.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:13Speaker 2: But I could organize your mess.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Um, but what happened to me is that when I realized I wasn't gonna understand the true character of God without spending time with Him all the time, meaning I'm in conversation with Him all the time, in the car, before a podcast, picking up my granddaughter, when I'm shopping, when I'm struggling with food choices,'cause I just found out- Yeah I'm diabetic.
- 20:39Speaker: Oh.
- 20:39Speaker 2: I'm in conversation with Him- Yeah.
- 20:41Speaker 2: That's right all the time.
- 20:43Speaker: So good.
- 20:43Speaker 2: So it's very difficult for me to go,"This is my, this is my well." Yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Like, I can go here and this is where I draw.
- 20:49Speaker 2: 'Cause His Word is g- I mean, I'm in His Word so much.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Right.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Now, with that being said, I still struggle with, like, a daily regular devotion time.
- 20:58Speaker: Yeah.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Because, I, I mean, yeah, you, you're right.
- 21:01Speaker 2: You start the day with Jesus and coffee, and I do that.
- 21:04Speaker: That's just, I have to do that for my sanity.
- 21:05Speaker: That's all.
- 21:05Speaker: But
- 21:06Speaker 2: I'm telling you,
- 21:07Speaker: I- It could be very religious, but I don't care.
- 21:09Speaker: I, that's where-
- 21:10Speaker 2: No.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Um- I don't think it's religious.
- 21:11Speaker: I think it's- As you are in the world- it's a good habit.
- 21:13Speaker 2: As
- 21:14Speaker: you are in the world so s- as He is in the world, so are you So you flow as y- you, you're flowing just because of being face-to-face with God.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 21:26Speaker 2: It's
- 21:26Speaker: not, it doesn't have to be a certain place.
- 21:27Speaker: I
- 21:28Speaker 2: know that.
- 21:28Speaker 2: No, and, and, and I would never, you know, I know there's a lot of pe- you know, I know there's workshops and coaching that's built on, you know,"This is the way to do it, and this will be the best way to do it", and I'm here to tell you.
- 21:39Speaker: Mm.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I just, I don't think that you can tell me- Yeah that my personality will respond the same way yours will respond.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 21:48Speaker 2: It's just not that- Yeah it's not that cut and dry, not that black and white.
- 21:51Speaker: Yeah.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Now, there are some things that are obvious.
- 21:54Speaker 2: You can't, if you continue in His word, you will know the truth, and the truth will- Mm set you free.
- 21:58Speaker: That's good.
- 21:59Speaker 2: That is true.
- 22:01Speaker 2: So stay in His word.
- 22:02Speaker 2: If that means- Yeah you're listening to it in the car all the time.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Sure.
- 22:04Speaker 2: You're in a podcast- Yeah with a Bible study all the time.
- 22:07Speaker 2: You're just reading it.
- 22:08Speaker 2: I honestly tell you, a physical Bible, book in my hands is the best way for me to connect- Mm with His word and with- That's so good Him and His word.
- 22:18Speaker: Mm.
- 22:18Speaker 2: But I'm not gonna tell you somebody else can't use, you know, a Bible app.
- 22:22Speaker 2: That's-
- 22:23Speaker: I, I have to use Evernote because right before my husband died, I was almost legally blind, and he wouldn't- Mm let me.
- 22:30Speaker: So once I got my eyes back, I had to use that Evernote and the You- YouVersion so much, I couldn't go
- 22:37Speaker 2: back.
- 22:37Speaker 2: I
- 22:38Speaker: do love that.
- 22:38Speaker: I do love that.
- 22:39Speaker: I, I've been, I've been criticized that I don't hold the Bible in my hand.
- 22:42Speaker: I let it go right over because this was my sustaining place-
- 22:45Speaker 2: Yeah,
- 22:45Speaker: yeah in the midst of the trauma.
- 22:46Speaker: Yeah.
- 22:46Speaker: It just happened to be an iPad because I could see it.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:50Speaker: So
- 22:50Speaker 2: anyway.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Well, and when I'm podcasting, I don't have my han- my physical Bible.
- 22:54Speaker: Yeah.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I have to use the app because I'm podcasting.
- 22:56Speaker 2: I'm trying to keep it under 15 minutes, and I'm not gonna flip the- I go from Hosea to Revelations.
- 23:01Speaker 2: So let's, let's- You know?
- 23:02Speaker 2: How do you get there?
- 23:03Speaker: Let's talk about your podcasting.
- 23:05Speaker: Okay.
- 23:05Speaker: I'd love to hear more about it,'cause it, you definitely have a gift to story.
- 23:09Speaker: Your voice is awesome.
- 23:11Speaker: Oh.
- 23:11Speaker: I was already telling her.
- 23:12Speaker: But that's, that's your place.
- 23:14Speaker: You light up.
- 23:15Speaker: I bet you you light up when you get behind your mic and God's given you a message.
- 23:19Speaker: Mm.
- 23:20Speaker: But tell us more about your b- about your podcast.
- 23:22Speaker: It-
- 23:22Speaker 2: Well, I'll tell you, uh,
- 23:23Speaker: and about- Is it named the Cr- Christian Drama Queen?
- 23:26Speaker: It,
- 23:26Speaker 2: it's, it, no.
- 23:27Speaker 2: It, it used to be The Chronicles of the Christian Drama Queen, and I felt that was a little too quirky.
- 23:31Speaker: Okay.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Because what I was trying to do is get people to come and talk and hear about the darkness and the victory that could be had if we walked- Okay through the process to get, get to freedom.
- 23:40Speaker 2: And I felt like that, that Chronicles of the Christian Drama Queen was fun.
- 23:43Speaker 2: People loved the, the name.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Mm.
- 23:44Speaker 2: I got a l- I got a kick out of it.
- 23:46Speaker 2: But they tune in when they find out that I'm talking about The Diary- Ah of a Discarded Daughter.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Gotcha.
- 23:52Speaker 2: And so that's, so I changed the podcast to The Diary of a Discarded Daughter.
- 23:55Speaker: Oh, is that the name of it?
- 23:57Speaker 2: Uh-huh.
- 23:57Speaker: Mm-hmm.
- 23:57Speaker: Oh, what?
- 23:58Speaker: So.
- 23:58Speaker: Say that again.
- 24:00Speaker 2: The Diary of a Discarded Daughter.
- 24:02Speaker: Okay.
- 24:02Speaker 2: It is on pretty much all of the platform.
- 24:05Speaker 2: I mean, uh, Spotify and iTunes, um, iHeart, um- Yeah Amazon Music, all of those places.
- 24:11Speaker: Uh- Do, do you have it on YouTube too?
- 24:14Speaker 2: Uh-huh.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:14Speaker 2: And so what I do is I, when I record, I record an audio and a visual version at the same time.
- 24:19Speaker: Yes.
- 24:20Speaker 2: The video version gets very little editing and just goes right to YouTube, and in fact, I've kind of started doing that one live because then I don't have to mess with it later.
- 24:26Speaker 2: It's there.
- 24:27Speaker: That's smart.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:29Speaker 2: And just to cut- And
- 24:30Speaker: then- down the production.
- 24:31Speaker: Yeah.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:32Speaker 2: And then the, but the audio- Yeah um, I actually throw that into an editor and, you know, eliminate some of the ums and the deep breaths- Sure, yeah and some of that.
- 24:40Speaker 2: And it'll cut down, and I'll also have some things, you know, I, I have a tendency to chase rabbits if I'm not careful on the-
- 24:46Speaker: Okay,
- 24:46Speaker 2: yeah podcast.
- 24:46Speaker 2: So I cut out some of that stuff so that when people listen at iTunes or wherever-
- 24:51Speaker: It's-
- 24:51Speaker 2: they get the, the 15 to 16-minute version Yeah and they can hear it between the house and the store.
- 24:56Speaker: Wow.
- 24:56Speaker: So.
- 24:56Speaker: So it's, you try to keep them 15 to 16 minutes.
- 24:59Speaker: I
- 24:59Speaker 2: do.
- 25:00Speaker: I do.
- 25:00Speaker: I agree with that.
- 25:01Speaker: That's part- Yeah But, but yeah, 15- Oh, it's just
- 25:04Speaker 2: too hard.
- 25:05Speaker 2: You know, we,
- 25:05Speaker: we do- 15 or 60 minutes with you is like sitting down with coffee with you- Oh and just letting you share, so.
- 25:12Speaker: I hope
- 25:12Speaker 2: so.
- 25:12Speaker 2: You know?
- 25:12Speaker 2: I really hope so.
- 25:13Speaker: I-
- 25:14Speaker 2: Um, I will say that one of the thing...
- 25:16Speaker 2: So what got me into the, you know, the reason I'm comfortable- Yeah behind the microphone was- Yeah in, uh, 1990, um, I went into a radio station that was our, our music director at church.
- 25:27Speaker 2: He was the manager.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Oh.
- 25:28Speaker 2: He had asked me to stop in on Saturday.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Well, I had approached him about cleaning the building, because I wanted to make a little extra money.
- 25:33Speaker: Sure.
- 25:34Speaker 2: So I went in and I brought my sweeper and my toilet bowl cleaner, and he said,"What are you doing?" And I said,"I'm coming in to clean the building." Oh.
- 25:41Speaker 2: He said,"I'm putting you on the air."
- 25:43Speaker: Oh, that's so great.
- 25:44Speaker 2: And I was there for almost 10 years.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Wonderful.
- 25:46Speaker 2: And you know that verse that talks about, um, honoring God and He'll give you the, the s- desires of your heart?
- 25:53Speaker: Yes.
- 25:53Speaker 2: I interpret that a little bit different- Okay because I didn't know I would love radio- Okay and being in front of the mic-
- 26:00Speaker: Yeah
- 26:01Speaker 2: until I was there.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Wow.
- 26:02Speaker 2: And then it became a desire of my heart.
- 26:05Speaker: That's cool.
- 26:05Speaker: That's cool.
- 26:05Speaker 2: And so, um, and I thank them all the time.
- 26:08Speaker 2: I, uh, every time I get a chance to talk to them, I make sure he understands.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:11Speaker 2: I thank you so much for giving me that opportunity.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:14Speaker 2: So I did the trading post, and Saturday mornings I started a kids program- Oh, wonderful with some kids music, and oh, it was great.
- 26:20Speaker 2: It was great.
- 26:20Speaker 2: I just loved it.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Good for you.
- 26:21Speaker 2: And then I had babies and, you know- Yeah my, my youngest was four and I was like,"Okay, I probably- Yeah need to try to be home more." And of course, I started homeschooling, which I, you know, I could've written a book about, book about that.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Yes.
- 26:31Speaker 2: I'm sure that's coming down the line.
- 26:33Speaker: That's, that's so...
- 26:34Speaker: But I don't talk to a radio person very often, so it's very fascinating.
- 26:38Speaker: We
- 26:38Speaker 2: are a special breed, Theresa.
