- 0:13Speaker 1: This is Kevin Sports very daily, bringing you the midweek
- 0:16Speaker 1: sports show on Radio Focus on one oh five point nine.
- 0:24Speaker 1: On today's show, we have new reports on football, rugby, hockey,
- 0:31Speaker 1: the deal five Miler Park run venues, and we've also
- 0:41Speaker 1: got a special feature on a young man, Jared Johnson,
- 0:44Speaker 1: who has turned his life around through powerlifting. So let's
- 0:55Speaker 1: crack on the show with a built as usual. Do
- 0:58Speaker 1: love to start the show with a really powerful song
- 1:01Speaker 1: to get you in the mood, So once again, get
- 1:03Speaker 1: those ear guitars out, tune them up and play along
- 1:06Speaker 1: to this one zz top and sharp dress man, Sharp
- 1:32Speaker 1: dress man there nineteen eighty three, remember that one. All
- 1:39Speaker 1: I can visualize now is three dudes with long beards
- 1:42Speaker 1: down to their waists just driving off in a big
- 1:45Speaker 1: red te forward dregstar and it's always a lovely girl
- 1:51Speaker 1: in the back or filling up with pair trot or
- 1:54Speaker 1: something like that. Anyway, welcome to the show. This is
- 1:57Speaker 1: Kevin Sports for a daily hill on radio folks and
- 1:59Speaker 1: bring you sports show and we've got loads of stuff
- 2:02Speaker 1: to do, so let's get cracking, shall we. Let's start
- 2:05Speaker 1: with football. Now, you have to excuse me a bit
- 2:07Speaker 1: if I do a bit of coffin. I'll try and
- 2:09Speaker 1: sort of fade it out, and God, I think it's
- 2:11Speaker 1: that Adrian, you know. I'm sure he's given me a cough,
- 2:14Speaker 1: so you will excuse me for I do a report
- 2:17Speaker 1: and it sounds a bit crog So ere we go,
- 2:19Speaker 1: Folks to the new Victor. Well, they bounce back from
- 2:22Speaker 1: the hashtag United defeat by beating Biller Ricky to one
- 2:25Speaker 1: at home in front of one tho two hundred and
- 2:28Speaker 1: ninety five fans. And I'll tell you what, it was
- 2:30Speaker 1: a really wet day. I was in the PA box
- 2:31Speaker 1: that day. I was lucky. Dean Rance opened the scoring
- 2:35Speaker 1: for In Victor in the nineteenth minute and that's how
- 2:37Speaker 1: it stayed until halftime. Biller Ricky scored in the fifty
- 2:41Speaker 1: ninth minute, but Folks can hit back almost straight away
- 2:43Speaker 1: with a fine glancing header man of them hatch Jake Hutchinson,
- 2:48Speaker 1: so the game finishing two one win for Folkston. Tuesday evening,
- 2:51Speaker 1: it was a way trip to well In United and
- 2:54Speaker 1: it seems In Victor had a comfortable three nil victory
- 2:57Speaker 1: goals coming from Dean Rance, Mikey Berry and Joe Piggott.
- 3:01Speaker 1: And it's nice to see that the goals are coming
- 3:03Speaker 1: from players all around the pitch. Actually, I mean perhaps
- 3:06Speaker 1: in the past you've had one striker that's got an
- 3:09Speaker 1: eye for goal when he's banging in the goals, but
- 3:10Speaker 1: if he's not fit, you know. But no, the goals
- 3:13Speaker 1: are coming in from all round the pitch, Sady. It's
- 3:16Speaker 1: another league away fixture, this time they travel to potters
- 3:20Speaker 1: Bar Sammy Moore as their new manager. Hi have Town
- 3:23Speaker 1: remain in the relegation zone after losing an away fixture
- 3:26Speaker 1: to Holmesdale by four goals to two. Now this isn't
- 3:30Speaker 1: This isn't the best preparation for a tough fa Var's
- 3:33Speaker 1: second round tie on Saturday at Reachfield against Burnham FC,
- 3:37Speaker 1: who are having a really good season so far. They
- 3:40Speaker 1: are currently fourth in the Combined County's Premier League North
- 3:43Speaker 1: with thirty points, but they have three games in hand
- 3:47Speaker 1: over the current leaders, who have just thirty four points.
- 3:51Speaker 1: In the NRG Kent County League. Hawkinstown had a close
- 3:54Speaker 1: five to four away victory against Kent United and this
- 3:58Speaker 1: Saturday have another way fixture, this time against and it
- 4:01Speaker 1: must be under flood lights as it's a five point
- 4:03Speaker 1: thirty kickoff. They are playing Alsford United who are fourth
- 4:07Speaker 1: and Hawkins a third, so there won't be much to
- 4:10Speaker 1: choose between that game or there. Hawkins reserves beat A
- 4:14Speaker 1: Bromley Green two one in the Ashvid District Division one
- 4:18Speaker 1: and this Saturday is a way against Staplehurst Monarchs who
- 4:21Speaker 1: are always there under twenty one side. Actually that's also
- 4:25Speaker 1: a league fixture. New Romney first team are they're slowly
- 4:30Speaker 1: creeping back up the lead. They had a really bad
- 4:31Speaker 1: start and they're in two fourteenth position now. Last Saturday
- 4:35Speaker 1: they beat sixth place at kings Hill three to one.
- 4:38Speaker 1: This Saturday is a home game with a two pm
- 4:41Speaker 1: kickoff against A Bexley who are sixteenth. And last week
- 4:45Speaker 1: the Romney reserves well I couldn't find a fixture for them,
- 4:47Speaker 1: but this week they are at home to Faversham Athletic.
- 4:51Speaker 1: New Romney is interested in this. Actually they've got more
- 4:53Speaker 1: than one pitch, but now they've got the new a
- 4:55Speaker 1: Maud pavilion that's got four changing rooms, so they are
- 4:59Speaker 1: able to stay two games at home. On the same day,
- 5:03Speaker 1: the folks in the Victor Ladies team had a fine
- 5:05Speaker 1: six Niil home victory on Sunday against Faversham Athletic. Their
- 5:10Speaker 1: next game is in the Cup of this Sunday away
- 5:12Speaker 1: at King's Hill, which that's going to be a tough
- 5:15Speaker 1: one as King's Hill are second in the Premier Division
- 5:19Speaker 1: and Folks on our fourth in Division one East. So
- 5:22Speaker 1: can they cause an upset? Well, let's hope so. Garran
- 5:26Speaker 1: Wilson's Folks in the Victor Disability team headed over to
- 5:29Speaker 1: Faversham for the Kent Disability Football League tournament. Two teams
- 5:33Speaker 1: in attendance, one in Championship Division one and the other
- 5:36Speaker 1: in Championship Division Two. The first team played four games
- 5:40Speaker 1: at beating Kingshill one nil. They beat Charlton two nil.
- 5:44Speaker 1: They drew nil Neil with Ancourion's but they suffered their
- 5:47Speaker 1: firsty feet of the season in this competition where they
- 5:50Speaker 1: lost one nil to Tyler Hill. Manager Garrant was pleased
- 5:54Speaker 1: with his team, pleased to get points on the board,
- 5:57Speaker 1: but disappointed that the lads failed to take their charm
- 6:01Speaker 1: Man of all those matches goes to Kyle Chapman. The
- 6:05Speaker 1: second team lost to Dover Rangers one nil, Kent Lions
- 6:08Speaker 1: Blues one nil, they beat Chelton Blue one nil, and
- 6:12Speaker 1: they drew Neil nil against Swanscombe and Kent Lions Red.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Now I'll tell you what I've noticed. These games are
- 6:19Speaker 1: very very close and they're a low scoring meaning they
- 6:22Speaker 1: must be extremely competitive. Man of the Matches for the
- 6:25Speaker 1: Championship Division two team goes through Jack Connor Johnson and
- 6:30Speaker 1: this Sunday is back to the eleven side game where
- 6:33Speaker 1: the lads travel to Littlebourne near Canterbury to face Tyler
- 6:37Speaker 1: Hill and if they win this one, they go top
- 6:39Speaker 1: of the league. So good lunk to a garrant and
- 6:42Speaker 1: the guys there. Okay, so it's time for another belter really,
- 6:45Speaker 1: and it's nice to every now and then. It's nice
- 6:48Speaker 1: to have a female strong vocalist, you know. And I
- 6:52Speaker 1: think you're going to enjoy this one. This is Bonnie
- 6:55Speaker 1: Tyler and holding out for a hero. It's the glue.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Oh let me go, slowing things down again. It's from
- 7:28Speaker 1: a Rose. Do you know what film that was from?
- 7:30Speaker 1: Do you know what? I had to google it. I'm
- 7:31Speaker 1: totally wrong, but apparently it was from Batman Forever doesn't
- 7:36Speaker 1: seem to go, does it, you know? But there must
- 7:38Speaker 1: have been a soft moment in that film when let's
- 7:42Speaker 1: see all sung that song? Okay once again? Excuse me
- 7:45Speaker 1: if I'm a bit croaky. I'll do my best. So
- 7:48Speaker 1: here we go. Now sit back and listen to the
- 7:50Speaker 1: following story. It's the kind of story, do you know what?
- 7:52Speaker 1: I love telling where somebody has turned their life around
- 7:55Speaker 1: thanks to sport. In this case, it's God and sport. Now,
- 8:00Speaker 1: years ago, there was a family living next door to me.
- 8:02Speaker 1: There was a mum, Liz, daughter Olivia, and son Jared. Jared.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Growing up, he was always seemed to be in trouble,
- 8:08Speaker 1: you know, but most boys at a young age always
- 8:10Speaker 1: do seem to be in trouble, didn't they? But his
- 8:12Speaker 1: mum told me he was a right handful. Well, they moved,
- 8:16Speaker 1: but I was friends with Liz on Facebook, so as
- 8:18Speaker 1: you do, you keep in touch. But recently I've been
- 8:21Speaker 1: in touch with Jared, who's nineteen now, I think he
- 8:24Speaker 1: was only about eight annoying when he lived next door
- 8:26Speaker 1: and he told me, now, listen to this. This is
- 8:29Speaker 1: really important that he told me this. He was eventually
- 8:32Speaker 1: diagnosed with autism ADHD. Now, everybody uses that term ADHD
- 8:39Speaker 1: and it kind of rolls off the tongue, didn't they,
- 8:41Speaker 1: But does anybody really know what it stands for? What
- 8:43Speaker 1: it means, well, I was in that category and I
- 8:46Speaker 1: looked it up. What it means is a tension deficit
- 8:50Speaker 1: hyperactive disorder. And on top of that, he had a
- 8:54Speaker 1: mild touch of tourettess. Nothing too serious, but you can
- 8:58Speaker 1: just tell from that little lord no under his mum
- 9:00Speaker 1: mallow handsfull Now. Jared, or Jazz as he's known a
- 9:04Speaker 1: loved sport at school and a friend suggested he join
- 9:07Speaker 1: a jim and that's where the changes in him started.
- 9:10Speaker 1: He found something to focus on. As a teenager, he
- 9:13Speaker 1: was on medication, but as time went by found the
- 9:16Speaker 1: love of gym work, especially powerlifting, helped him to concentrate
- 9:20Speaker 1: more and more and eventually the medication wasn't necessary. At
- 9:24Speaker 1: the age of fifteen, Jared realized that he had a
- 9:27Speaker 1: great strength to weight ratio and was proud of the
- 9:30Speaker 1: fact that as a fifteen year old, he managed a
- 9:33Speaker 1: one hundred kilogram benchlift. Now one hundred kilogram to me,
- 9:37Speaker 1: I can't imagine that amount of weight, but if you
- 9:41Speaker 1: said sixteen stone, then I can put that into context. So,
- 9:46Speaker 1: at that young age, he entered his first competition and
- 9:49Speaker 1: came third. Not bad start, was it, considering he lifted
- 9:53Speaker 1: a two hundred and ten kilogram deadlift and do you
- 9:56Speaker 1: know how much that is? Thirty three stones. At seventeen
- 10:00Speaker 1: he entered two more competitions, finishing third both times. Than
- 10:04Speaker 1: at nineteen, he came first in the Pure Jim Push
- 10:07Speaker 1: Paul pageant. Only last month Jared entered the Southeast Qualified
- 10:11Speaker 1: Powerlifting competition, where he came first. Now what a journey
- 10:15Speaker 1: that's been, eh. Jared told me that his current goals
- 10:19Speaker 1: are to qualify for the British Nationals next year and
- 10:22Speaker 1: eventually work his way towards international competitions, and he would
- 10:26Speaker 1: love one day to represent the UK. In the meantime,
- 10:30Speaker 1: he shares his love for powerlifting with his job as
- 10:33Speaker 1: a chef in one of the restaurants at Portland Zoo. Now,
- 10:36Speaker 1: Jared wants to thank his mumbles and grandparents for supporting
- 10:40Speaker 1: him every step of the way, as their encouragement meant everything.
- 10:43Speaker 1: He also stated that his faith had a big part
- 10:46Speaker 1: in his life. So there you have it. Jared has
- 10:50Speaker 1: gone from a misunderstood, naughty little boy driving his mum
- 10:53Speaker 1: up the wall to a mature young man whose mind
- 10:56Speaker 1: sometimes still goes at one hundred mile an hours. So
- 10:59Speaker 1: his mum tells me. But through it all, through his
- 11:02Speaker 1: faith and the sport, he's turned his life around. Jared
- 11:05Speaker 1: was just more than a naughty little boy with his
- 11:08Speaker 1: health issues. But I think friends and family and Jared
- 11:11Speaker 1: himself now understand that those issues. They understand those issues
- 11:15Speaker 1: and they support him. Now I'll be keeping an eye
- 11:17Speaker 1: on this up and coming local powerlifter and who knows
- 11:21Speaker 1: will his dream come true of representing the UK? Well,
- 11:24Speaker 1: let's hope. So so I want to thank mum Liz
- 11:28Speaker 1: for you know, sending me some information there. It is
- 11:31Speaker 1: a bit personal, isn't it, you know, but she sent
- 11:34Speaker 1: it to me. And a big thanks to Jared for
- 11:37Speaker 1: owning up. And he actually told me that he had
- 11:39Speaker 1: the autism and the ADHD, so he's come to light
- 11:44Speaker 1: faces fears, if you like. And he also told me
- 11:48Speaker 1: that people didn't understand him when he was growing up,
- 11:50Speaker 1: and I don't think he could understand himself why, if
- 11:54Speaker 1: you like, he was such a naughty boy. But how
- 11:56Speaker 1: things can change, isn't it? And this is the sort
- 11:58Speaker 1: of story that I love. Now we're going to keep
- 12:00Speaker 1: an eye on Jared and we do hope that he
- 12:04Speaker 1: does progress for his love of powerlifting and uh, there's
- 12:09Speaker 1: a final end to this great story and his dream
- 12:12Speaker 1: comes true, representing the UK. Well, I've got a story here. Sorry,
- 12:17Speaker 1: I've got a song here for Garev. Now I put
- 12:19Speaker 1: lift in the in the playlist didn't come much, come
- 12:23Speaker 1: up with much, but I've put lifted in And this
- 12:26Speaker 1: is a lovely song and I love this, so Jared
- 12:29Speaker 1: and all the family, this is for you. This is
- 12:31Speaker 1: lifted from the Lighthouse Family. I really love to be
- 12:55Speaker 1: alone with out, but he goes, that's the Lighthouse Family.
- 13:13Speaker 1: That's a great track, you know, and that sums up
- 13:15Speaker 1: the family there. So well done to Jared, Liz, Olivia
- 13:18Speaker 1: and the grandparents. And there's one little bit in there.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I loved that said lifted from the shadow. He's come
- 13:24Speaker 1: out from the shadow into the spotlight. So we're going
- 13:28Speaker 1: to be chilled out again. Now we're going to play
- 13:30Speaker 1: this one from ninety eight, and we're really relaxing this hour, right,
- 13:35Speaker 1: we're building out songs, but you can probably hear it
- 13:38Speaker 1: in the background. This is the Cause, The Cause from
- 13:50Speaker 1: nineteen ninety eight. No dar much about them, actually, but
- 13:53Speaker 1: they made a massive impact when they hit the scene.
- 13:56Speaker 1: It's like one family and they three sisters and one brother.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Cracking looking Irish lasses hockey news now, so what I'm
- 14:04Speaker 1: gonna do. I'll start with the summary of it if
- 14:07Speaker 1: you like. Because they fielded fourteen teams played fourteen, they
- 14:12Speaker 1: won five, they lost five, they drew four, and the
- 14:17Speaker 1: goals scored were thirty seven and the goals against were
- 14:21Speaker 1: twenty seven. So that's the folks and optimists all the
- 14:24Speaker 1: fourteen teams. So we go through each team now and
- 14:29Speaker 1: we will start with the men's now. Unfortunately they lost
- 14:32Speaker 1: two to one two Canterbury Matt Mannering's getting the goal.
- 14:36Speaker 1: The second team drew a three all with Hulcombe Alex
- 14:39Speaker 1: Wizzart he got two, Nick Hopkins got one, and the
- 14:43Speaker 1: third team they beat burnt Ash one nil, Ben Allen
- 14:46Speaker 1: getting the solitary goal. The men's fourteen they drew one
- 14:50Speaker 1: all with Tunbridge Wells Charlie Pepper getting the goal. The
- 14:53Speaker 1: men's fifteen they drew three all with the gillinghaman Courian's
- 14:58Speaker 1: Ross dreiber Are getting two and Joseph Allen getting one.
- 15:02Speaker 1: The men's sixteen they lost four to one two Gravesom
- 15:05Speaker 1: and Welcome Steve Rowe getting the goal and the men's
- 15:08Speaker 1: seventh team. I love this score. Listen to this. They
- 15:11Speaker 1: beat the Blackheath Highwayman and it wasn't daylight robbery. It
- 15:15Speaker 1: was nothing to it because they beat him nine to four. Okay,
- 15:20Speaker 1: we've got Matt Goodwin he got three goals, Matt Carter
- 15:23Speaker 1: got two, Riley Gordon got two and John ger Man
- 15:29Speaker 1: got one and Adam nord Done got one. And the
- 15:33Speaker 1: men's eighth team they drew three all with Herne bay
- 15:36Speaker 1: Warwick White getting the goal, Leo Davey and Herbie Simpson
- 15:40Speaker 1: getting the other two. The Ladies first team, while they
- 15:43Speaker 1: had a good result. They'd beat Ashford three Neil Claire
- 15:46Speaker 1: Carter getting two and Meg Scott getting one. The Ladies
- 15:50Speaker 1: seconds unfortunately he lost two to one to Old Williamsnians
- 15:53Speaker 1: as Emily Hamlin getting the solitary goal. The Ladies thirteen
- 15:57Speaker 1: they beat Ashford the two to one, Richie and Empuling
- 16:01Speaker 1: getting the goal. The Ladies fourteen they lost to one
- 16:05Speaker 1: two Gillingermancourian's tes Huegen getting the solitary goal. The Ladies
- 16:11Speaker 1: fifteen they lost to nil to Ashford, but the Aladies
- 16:16Speaker 1: another high score. The Ladies sixteen they won eight nil
- 16:21Speaker 1: against kay Sports. Okay, here we go, Roll of honor.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Poppy Rockall got two. Janet Fuller, former guest of the show,
- 16:28Speaker 1: she got to. Rona Frai got one, Joe Craig got one,
- 16:31Speaker 1: Immy Richie got one, and Pixie got one. I couldn't
- 16:35Speaker 1: pronounce it a surname, but that's a lovely first name,
- 16:37Speaker 1: isn't it, Pixie? So that was eight nil against Kaye Sports.
- 16:42Speaker 1: So there's a full set of fixtures today. Sorry on Saturday.
- 16:45Speaker 1: What am I talking about on Saturday? So check out
- 16:48Speaker 1: the Folks and Optimist Hockey Club Facebook page. Add a
- 16:52Speaker 1: massive thank you once again to the media guru at
- 16:56Speaker 1: the club that is Amy Bumpstead, former guest of the show.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Been in here several times and I've don't know where
- 17:02Speaker 1: the club would be without I really don't. Okay, we've
- 17:05Speaker 1: had a couple of quiet songs. Now we're really going
- 17:07Speaker 1: to ramp it up a bit. This one was a great,
- 17:11Speaker 1: great hit when it came out. It's got a bit
- 17:13Speaker 1: of a slow intro, but you'll soon pick it up.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Get those guitars out again. Dust off that air guitar.
- 17:22Speaker 1: One of the best riffs to start a song. If
- 17:29Speaker 1: you go into a guitar shop and someone picks the
- 17:31Speaker 1: guitar up. This is certainly one intro. They all want
- 17:36Speaker 1: to play dires traits. That's when all the music channels
- 18:10Speaker 1: started coming out, wasn't it You remember that MTV? There's
- 18:13Speaker 1: loads of a man there, But that was the pioneering
- 18:16Speaker 1: song with the what do you call the animation version?
- 18:19Speaker 1: It was a groundbreak right Switching back to sport now.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Last Sunday, I was on the mic at the Deal
- 18:27Speaker 1: five miler, which included a fifteen hundred meters junior race. Well,
- 18:32Speaker 1: it was absolutely bucketing down as the team set up
- 18:35Speaker 1: the gantry the finish finals time in mats and me
- 18:38Speaker 1: with my PA system. It died down a bit for
- 18:41Speaker 1: the thirty juniors who took part, but it didn't dampen
- 18:44Speaker 1: their spirits at all. Leo Sargood was first junior boy
- 18:48Speaker 1: home for the White Cliffs Athletics and Running Club and
- 18:51Speaker 1: the first girl home was a Macy Godden for the
- 18:53Speaker 1: home club Deal Trya. Taking part from Folkston in the
- 18:57Speaker 1: junior race were Hugo slingsby my local Thorpe and his
- 19:00Speaker 1: sister Emily. That was great to see because despite the
- 19:04Speaker 1: drizzled appearans and the spectators cheering the children in, and
- 19:09Speaker 1: nearly all the kids loved it. There's always one, though,
- 19:11Speaker 1: isn't there you know, Oh, don't like running mommy, or
- 19:14Speaker 1: don't want to be here, But I don't think we
- 19:16Speaker 1: have one. This time it was really really good fun. Now.
- 19:19Speaker 1: The Senior race was due to start at ten thirty,
- 19:22Speaker 1: and at ten twenty five it was as if by
- 19:24Speaker 1: magic the rain stopped and the sun come out. Two
- 19:28Speaker 1: hundred and fifty nine runners crossed the finish line, and
- 19:31Speaker 1: I suspect many checked out the forecast and didn't bother
- 19:34Speaker 1: turning up because to be fair, it did show eighty
- 19:37Speaker 1: percent rain, and not everybody loves running in the rain.
- 19:41Speaker 1: But it was five minutes before I can believe it.
- 19:43Speaker 1: It's like someone that turned the switch. At twenty five
- 19:45Speaker 1: passed and the rain stopped. Home club runner Toby Smith
- 19:50Speaker 1: was in fine form, finishing three minutes ahead of Folkston's
- 19:53Speaker 1: Guy Slingsby. But you must remember a guy is only
- 19:56Speaker 1: fifteen and he'd run a tough senior park run the
- 19:59Speaker 1: day before. It was a double whammy for Toby as
- 20:02Speaker 1: besides coming first, he broke the club twenty year old
- 20:06Speaker 1: record and listened to this how close can you get?
- 20:09Speaker 1: He beat the club record by just one whole second.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Well don't Toby now. The home club had forty two
- 20:17Speaker 1: of their members entered and the Folkston Club had around
- 20:20Speaker 1: forty at least, which just goes to show the popularity
- 20:23Speaker 1: of this race as there aren't many five five miles
- 20:26Speaker 1: around and there were twenty four runners from the Coastal
- 20:29Speaker 1: s drivers at Ramsgate. They took part. Now I mentioned
- 20:32Speaker 1: them because their clubs got their race. It's got a
- 20:36Speaker 1: ten k and a ten miler that takes place on Sunday,
- 20:39Speaker 1: November sixteenth, one that I am really happy to have
- 20:43Speaker 1: been invited to. So check out a nice work Coastbuster
- 20:46Speaker 1: ten k and Tight ten k and ten miler facebook
- 20:49Speaker 1: page for all the information and there's also a kilometer
- 20:54Speaker 1: junior run, So excuse me. A big mention must go
- 20:58Speaker 1: to the Folks and Running and his club. They had
- 21:01Speaker 1: a clean sweep. They won the a men's team and
- 21:04Speaker 1: the ladies team and a lot of individual prizes. So
- 21:07Speaker 1: well done. I think Luisa, he got one form of
- 21:10Speaker 1: guest of the show, so we'll done, Luisa. But congratulations
- 21:13Speaker 1: must go to the race director Margaret Reedy and her
- 21:17Speaker 1: team of volunteers who will help this race so enjoyable.
- 21:20Speaker 1: And a special mention goes to a gentleman called Simon Reid. Now,
- 21:24Speaker 1: Simon is just like a jack of all trades. He's
- 21:26Speaker 1: got this van, his builders van. He turns it into
- 21:29Speaker 1: a deal Try run van, he calls it. And before
- 21:32Speaker 1: the start of the race, but you think, where's Simon,
- 21:34Speaker 1: where are you been? Simon, I've been up the course
- 21:37Speaker 1: delivering the water and just checking out a few things.
- 21:39Speaker 1: And then he puts the gantry up and he does
- 21:43Speaker 1: the race briefing and then he takes the gantry down.
- 21:47Speaker 1: He does just about everything, helps out with the finished funnels.
- 21:50Speaker 1: So a big, big thank you to Simon Reid for
- 21:53Speaker 1: the dedication he's shown over the years to Deal Try club. Right,
- 21:59Speaker 1: let's have a bit of me, Is it that? All?
- 22:00Speaker 1: My word? Is that the time? Yeah, we better crack
- 22:02Speaker 1: this one in. This is losing my religion by IRMRM
- 22:29Speaker 1: ninety one. That's me in the corner right now. This Saturday,
- 22:38Speaker 1: I'll be in bex Hill for the twenty twenty five
- 22:41Speaker 1: Remembrance Run, which is a distance to suit all. There
- 22:44Speaker 1: is a youth mile at nine point thirty, a ten
- 22:47Speaker 1: k at ten o'clock, a half marathon at ten past ten,
- 22:50Speaker 1: and a five k at ten point fifteen. So it's
- 22:52Speaker 1: going to be a busy morning and I should be
- 22:54Speaker 1: linking up with my old buddy a Liam Burke, who's
- 22:56Speaker 1: the race director. Now. The event will take place along
- 22:59Speaker 1: the seafront promenade of Becks Hills, so let's hope for
- 23:02Speaker 1: fine weather. You never know when there's a seafront run there,
- 23:04Speaker 1: you just do not know. First of all, we have
- 23:06Speaker 1: to check the course in case it's a been a
- 23:09Speaker 1: high tide and the stones are all over the promenade.
- 23:12Speaker 1: But you're very interested in this one, which does make
- 23:14Speaker 1: a donation to the Royal British Legion. I believe it
- 23:17Speaker 1: was formerly known as the Poppy Run. I compared it
- 23:20Speaker 1: many years ago pre COVID and it didn't really come
- 23:22Speaker 1: back after COVID, but it did come back last year.
- 23:25Speaker 1: But they want to ramp it up a little bit
- 23:26Speaker 1: this year, so it's going to be a really big
- 23:29Speaker 1: busy day. But yeah, it's good they do make this
- 23:32Speaker 1: donation to the Royal British Legion, which as we all know,
- 23:36Speaker 1: is just one day on Saturday, before Remembrance Sunday. So
- 23:41Speaker 1: if you want to learn more about this race, please
- 23:43Speaker 1: enter Sports System Events into the search box for all
- 23:47Speaker 1: the irrelevant information. Right, I've got a bit of rugby
- 23:51Speaker 1: news that I want to squeeze in. The only result
- 23:54Speaker 1: I could find from Folks and Rugby Club at the
- 23:56Speaker 1: weekend was the Ladies team who traveled to Beckenham and
- 23:59Speaker 1: beat them by twenty four points to seventeen. This Sunday,
- 24:03Speaker 1: the Ladies travel around the coast to play Thanet Wonderers.
- 24:06Speaker 1: The men's Fir fifteen are at home to Beckenham and
- 24:09Speaker 1: the Seconds are away to Graves End. So let's hope
- 24:11Speaker 1: that the good news keeps coming from the Burlington fields.
- 24:15Speaker 1: So they're having a really good season there, the first
- 24:18Speaker 1: team and the second team and the Ladies. So it's
- 24:21Speaker 1: just they've been through a bit of a sticky patch
- 24:23Speaker 1: and they the last couple of seasons. But yeah, it's
- 24:26Speaker 1: good to see that they are on the way back. Okay,
- 24:28Speaker 1: we'll be gone now a bit of shell crow. Every
- 24:30Speaker 1: day is a winding road. I has to ride with
- 24:48Speaker 1: a vending machine reverman that has been down this road
- 24:53Speaker 1: more than twice one. We're just going to fade Sheryl down.
- 25:03Speaker 1: There is not much left of that song, but I
- 25:04Speaker 1: do want to get this little bit in. It's about
- 25:07Speaker 1: the park run venues now. Our local athletes were out
- 25:10Speaker 1: and about at the following park run venues last Saturday.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Martin Salmon was at Pegwell Bay. Hattie Whitman traveled to Guernsey.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Jason Crockford was at a Dinton Pastures park run. Never
- 25:22Speaker 1: heard of that one, but that is in Wokingham in Berkshire.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Caroline Curtis ran at lance In Beach Green, West Sussex.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Jacob Henwood was the other side of the world at
- 25:32Speaker 1: Pirrama Park Run, Sydney, Australia. Kay Evans ran at Beckel's Quay,
- 25:37Speaker 1: which is about ten miles inland from Lowestoff on the
- 25:40Speaker 1: East coast. There and finally Henry and Amy Axon and
- 25:46Speaker 1: Beth good Child found the Z in the park run alphabet.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Now many runners like to do the ater Z of
- 25:52Speaker 1: park run alphabet and the only Z around is Zida
- 25:57Speaker 1: Park at the Hagen Holland. This is the nearest park
- 26:00Speaker 1: run beginning with Z to England. There's no Z park
- 26:03Speaker 1: runs in the UK. The other ones available if you
- 26:08Speaker 1: want to travel further and you're really adventurous, you can
- 26:11Speaker 1: go to zandalev z Then I was somewhere in Cape Town,
- 26:16Speaker 1: South Africa, Ziola Gora Park Run in Poland and Zelmia
- 26:20Speaker 1: Park Run in Brisbane. Okay, so we do not have
- 26:24Speaker 1: much time left, so we're just going to crack on
- 26:27Speaker 1: with a bit of ace of base yarry a little
- 26:37Speaker 1: world when Levy raises rather than an a days and
- 26:45Speaker 1: don't trap out the world. Well that's in me for today.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Ad will be flying solo on Saturday between ten and eleven,
- 26:54Speaker 1: I will be down in Bexhill on Sea comparing the
- 26:56Speaker 1: Poppy Run. I'll be back next Thursday where my guests
- 26:59Speaker 1: will be Joe Toldhers from South Kentmind where we will
- 27:02Speaker 1: be discussing, amongst other things, the Festive and Mental Wealth Run,
- 27:06Speaker 1: which takes part on Sunday the seventh of December. So
- 27:10Speaker 1: from me, Kevin Day, see you next week point nine FM,
- 27:14Speaker 1: online at Radiofolkston dot com and on your smart speaker
