• 8:05
  SPEAKER_09: Noise.
• 8:05
SPEAKER_09: So that's the bandorama is where they have they do it in the gym because they start with the fifth grade band and they do like the warm up warm-up activities that they they work on.
• 8:15
  SPEAKER_09: Right.
• 8:15
  SPEAKER_09: Like beginning band.
• 8:17
SPEAKER_09: Then they go to the sixth grade band, and then they play the seventh and eighth grade band, and then they play the high school band, and then at the end they all play a song together or a piece of a song.
• 8:25
  SPEAKER_11: A big jam session.
• 8:27
SPEAKER_09: It's kind of a cluster really because you have three three conductors and they're they're trying to keep everybody on time together uh in a gym that echoes.
• 8:36
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 8:36
SPEAKER_09: And uh course it was May the fourth.

• 8:45
SPEAKER_09: They did the Star Wars theme at the end.
• 8:47
SPEAKER_09: Um and the Cantina theme was, you know, done in a couple on a couple of uh occasions as well.
• 8:53
SPEAKER_09: Um so but you know the I they talked about because it went it went an hour and a half.
• 8:58
  SPEAKER_11: Really?
• 8:59
SPEAKER_09: And it was in a hot gym.
• 9:00
SPEAKER_09: So there's there's talk of there's talk of splitting it up next year.
• 9:05
SPEAKER_09: There's talk of doing a fifth and sixth grade band night and then a seventh through twelfth band night, which would cut down on the you know.
• 9:12
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it'd be a lot better.
• 9:13
SPEAKER_09: It would be a lot better.
• 9:14
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 9:14
SPEAKER_09: So I don't know if that's gonna happen or not, but it was a success, uh, nonetheless.
• 9:19
SPEAKER_09: So I told you that um I picked up a couple CDs at Bull Moose last week.
• 9:26
SPEAKER_09: I think it was last week.
• 9:28
SPEAKER_09: Um, but I forgot to tell you that so we went down to Bangor for a track meet for my senior.
• 9:36
SPEAKER_09: And um his his first event nope, his second event.
• 9:42
  SPEAKER_09: Uh he injured himself.
• 9:44
  SPEAKER_11: Doing what?
• 9:45
SPEAKER_09: Well, so he did the the long jump and did pretty well, but didn't place or anything, but he he he actually uh PR'd a personal record.
• 9:54
  SPEAKER_11: Um better than PP.
• 9:58
  SPEAKER_09: That'd be bad.
• 9:59
SPEAKER_09: And then uh he was doing I think it was the four by one hundred.
• 10:04
  SPEAKER_09: It's a r it was a relay.
• 10:06
SPEAKER_09: So he he was the second runner out of four guys.
• 10:12
SPEAKER_09: And uh they handed him the baton and he ran, and um I got it on tape, I'm videotaping the whole thing.
• 10:20
SPEAKER_09: And just as he passed us, he went ah and grabbed his leg.
• 10:25
SPEAKER_11: Did you pull a handy?
• 10:26
  SPEAKER_09: He pulled something, yeah.
• 10:28
SPEAKER_09: And but he kept going and passed passed off the baton.
• 10:33
  SPEAKER_09: That was dumb.
• 10:34
SPEAKER_09: And then and then um collapsed basically um on the track.
• 10:39
SPEAKER_09: And uh you know, they came over and took care of him and well so he he was out for the rest of the track meet.
• 10:45
  SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
• 10:45
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
• 10:46
SPEAKER_09: And so he had to go to PT a couple times.
• 10:48
SPEAKER_09: Um he's still not able to participate.
• 10:52
SPEAKER_09: I think he's got a track meet coming up.
• 10:54
SPEAKER_09: I think I'm not sure if he's able to participate or not.
• 10:56
SPEAKER_09: They haven't given him the the g the green light.
• 10:59
SPEAKER_09: He's been doing other things fine.
• 11:01
SPEAKER_09: You know, he's I think it feels better, but whether he's going to run or you know, whatever.
• 11:08
  SPEAKER_09: Right.
• 11:09
  SPEAKER_09: Uh so I don't know.
• 11:10
  SPEAKER_09: So that happened.
• 11:11
SPEAKER_09: And then today, I think I was talking to you about how uh we might have to postpone the recording tonight because Myra had her first track meet over in Caribou.
• 11:21
SPEAKER_09: Uh and that might go late, so I was gonna have you come later.
• 11:25
SPEAKER_09: Well, um this morning she was very nervous about it.
• 11:29
  SPEAKER_09: And she actually joked.
• 11:31
SPEAKER_09: She said, I'll just hurt myself at school so I don't have to do it.
• 11:36
  SPEAKER_09: Whatever it is.
• 11:37
SPEAKER_09: And so And then she did.
• 11:39
  SPEAKER_09: She did.
• 11:41
  SPEAKER_09: Did she really?
• 11:41
  SPEAKER_09: Yes, she did.
• 11:42
SPEAKER_09: She didn't do it on purpose.
• 11:45
  SPEAKER_09: Okay.
• 11:45
SPEAKER_09: Luckily the track meet got canceled because of uh the storm system that was running through and they didn't you know thunderstorms, they didn't want to take a chance.
• 11:53
SPEAKER_09: So they canceled or delayed it.
• 11:55
SPEAKER_09: Sorry, the track meet's gonna be Thursday now.
• 11:57
SPEAKER_09: Um but she went home early because at recess she was playing soccer and a uh boy kind of took her out and she well, took her out, but kind of slide tackled her, but her foot went on the ball or something the wrong way or whatever.
• 12:18
SPEAKER_09: I think she just rolled her ankle, is what she did.
• 12:21
SPEAKER_09: But uh, you know, she she went home and has had her foot on ice all day.
• 12:26
SPEAKER_09: So it's just you know, my family is accident prone apparently.
• 12:30
SPEAKER_11: So Yeah, they shouldn't be doing track.
• 12:33
  unknown: Right.
• 12:35
  SPEAKER_09: I will tell you.
• 12:36
SPEAKER_09: They should be doing something safer, like I I can't watch the um what do you call them?
• 12:45
  SPEAKER_09: Hurdles?
• 12:46
  SPEAKER_09: Hurdles.
• 12:47
  SPEAKER_09: You like that?
• 12:48
SPEAKER_09: That's the international sign for hurdles.
• 12:53
SPEAKER_09: Well, you knew what I meant.
• 12:54
SPEAKER_11: I know that's what that's I can go to China right now and be like, hurdles?
• 12:58
SPEAKER_11: And I'd be like, oh hurdles.
• 13:01
  SPEAKER_09: I'd be like, yes.
• 13:04
  SPEAKER_09: Anyway, I can't watch them.
• 13:06
SPEAKER_09: I have a hard time watching them because I think Well, I'm just waiting for you know, catch a foot on that thing and just exactly exactly that's and it's gonna hurt, dude.
• 13:14
SPEAKER_09: And you know, or even um she's worried, she was worried about uh because they're so close together, the runners are so close together, catching someone's spike in her leg or something.
• 13:24
SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, you know, I mean it's so I but that's that's one event.
• 13:27
  SPEAKER_09: I watch him obviously, but I I I can't uh it's hard.
• 13:30
SPEAKER_11: Well everybody's getting hurt because I was talking to one of one of my kids in Ashland today.
• 13:35
  SPEAKER_11: She she plays softball.
• 13:36
SPEAKER_11: She was like, Doug, guess what happened?
• 13:38
  SPEAKER_11: I'm like, what?
• 13:38
SPEAKER_11: And she's like, I I hurt my knee sliding in the home.
• 13:42
SPEAKER_11: And I was like, Well, are you not sliding right?
• 13:46
SPEAKER_11: She goes, Yeah, I don't think I'm sliding right.
• 13:48
SPEAKER_11: And I was like, Why don't you just go head first?
• 13:50
SPEAKER_11: She's like, our coach won't let us go head first.
• 13:52
SPEAKER_11: And I was like, I'll talk to your coach anymore.
• 13:55
SPEAKER_09: Did she get the run?
• 13:56
  SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I think so.
• 13:57
SPEAKER_11: Well, she didn't really I'm gonna say she did.
• 14:00
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
• 14:01
SPEAKER_11: So, you know, happy ending.
• 14:02
  SPEAKER_11: Right.
• 14:03
SPEAKER_11: But you know, you know, I was like, you know, why I I was like, I was like, you need to do something safer, like bull fighting, you know, MMA.
• 14:10
SPEAKER_11: So you know, something safe.
• 14:12
  SPEAKER_11: Right.
• 14:12
  SPEAKER_11: Okay.
• 14:13
SPEAKER_11: Because this is you know, softball's not for you.
• 14:15
  SPEAKER_09: Right.
• 14:15
SPEAKER_11: So she just she kind of just did that health take her and oh Doug.
• 14:23
SPEAKER_09: What else was I gonna say?
• 14:25
  SPEAKER_09: Because we I don't know.
• 14:26
SPEAKER_09: We use this podcast to catch up, basically.
• 14:28
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah, what we do.
• 14:29
  SPEAKER_09: And you're all invited.
• 14:31
  SPEAKER_09: What happened this week?

• 15:07
SPEAKER_09: Um so I'm happy that I have that down here and it's kind of a backup if in case I need it.
• 15:13
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 15:13
SPEAKER_09: Um it's always good to have a backup.
• 15:15
SPEAKER_09: Always good to have a backup.
• 15:16
  SPEAKER_09: So yeah, that's there's that.
• 15:19

SPEAKER_09: And that he initially wanted to write something to an organization called the Elders, founded by Nelson Mandela in twenty seven, uh twenty seven.
• 16:44
SPEAKER_09: Their currency is not based on military power, economic power, or political power, but just the moral authority they have from having lived extraordinary selfless lives.
• 16:53
SPEAKER_09: That's something which I wanted to talk about, write about, and encourage, because it's pretty dark out there in lots of places.
• 16:58
SPEAKER_09: And I think we need people who can just nudge both of us uh and our leaders and keep alive some basic values of justice, compassion, and democracy.
• 17:07
SPEAKER_09: I hope that they can help us start envisioning a just peaceful and fairer world.
• 17:12
  SPEAKER_09: That's fair, I guess.
• 17:14
SPEAKER_09: Um so this is from his collection OI.
• 17:18
  SPEAKER_09: Um Won't Stand Down.
• 17:20
SPEAKER_09: It's gonna have two versions.
• 17:21
SPEAKER_09: Uh we have the bright side version.
• 17:24
SPEAKER_09: Um and so let's just let's just play it.
• 17:27
SPEAKER_09: It was inspired by Marvin Gay, apparently.
• 17:30
SPEAKER_09: I have always been a fan of Marvin Gay, and there was a Cuban element to his song Sexual Healing that I loved and was exploring.
• 17:36
SPEAKER_09: It was something in the way that it allowed the rhythm to move that I liked, and I tried to bring an element of that to the song while allowing it to evolve into something different.
• 17:44
SPEAKER_09: This all comes from ultimate classicrock.com.
• 17:46
  SPEAKER_09: So are you ready?
• 17:48
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 17:48
SPEAKER_09: We'll play just a just a bit of it.
• 17:50
SPEAKER_09: This is Won't Stand Down the Bright Side Mix from Peter Gabriel.
• 17:54
  SPEAKER_09: Aggravated assault.
• 17:55
SPEAKER_09: No, aggravated assault, cocaine possession, child endangerment.
• 18:00
  SPEAKER_09: Illegal immigrants in Maine.
• 18:01
  SPEAKER_09: Oh my goodness.
• 18:03
SPEAKER_09: This is obviously a political ad.
• 18:05
SPEAKER_09: Oh, and I can skip it.
• 18:06
  SPEAKER_09: Let's do this.
• 18:06
  SPEAKER_11: Oh, really?
• 18:07
  SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I can.
• 18:08
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah, here we go.
• 18:09
  SPEAKER_09: That's a first.
• 18:10
  SPEAKER_09: Here's pretty Gabriel.
• 18:19
SPEAKER_09: Alright, I like the music.
• 18:24
SPEAKER_11: Yeah, but it sounds more like in your eyes than sexual healing.
• 18:27
  SPEAKER_11: It does, yeah.
• 18:28
  SPEAKER_11: So, yeah.
• 19:50
  SPEAKER_09: I like it.
• 19:50
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's a good song.
• 19:51
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I guess.
• 19:53
  SPEAKER_09: Um It's very chill.
• 19:54
  SPEAKER_09: It is very chill.
• 19:56
  SPEAKER_09: It's there's a bit of a melody there, so that's that's cool.
• 19:59
SPEAKER_09: Uh that is uh Won't Stand Down from the bright side mix.
• 20:03
SPEAKER_09: I'm curious as to what the dark side mix of that song would be.
• 20:06
  SPEAKER_09: Um Everything Sucks.
• 20:11
SPEAKER_09: But that is from his um collection OI.
• 20:14
SPEAKER_09: Output and input, I guess, is what what it is.
• 20:17
  SPEAKER_11: On off.
• 20:18
  SPEAKER_09: On off.
• 20:19
SPEAKER_09: Well, it could be that too.
• 20:20
  SPEAKER_09: I have no idea.
• 20:21
  SPEAKER_09: I don't either.
• 20:21
  SPEAKER_09: Um Peter Gabriel.
• 20:23
  SPEAKER_09: We can't see it.
• 20:23
  SPEAKER_09: It is Peter Gabriel.
• 20:24
SPEAKER_11: It could be a meaning, anything.
• 20:25
SPEAKER_09: Um other new music, again, I don't think you're gonna care about.
• 20:29
SPEAKER_09: Uh do you wanna do you think you're gonna care about it?
• 20:33
  SPEAKER_11: I might.
• 20:33
  SPEAKER_11: I I don't know what it is.
• 20:35
SPEAKER_09: Uh two new songs from the Rolling Stones.
• 20:36
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I don't care.
• 20:40
SPEAKER_09: I knew you were gonna say that.
• 20:42
SPEAKER_11: I'm sorry, but it's just it's the Rolling Stones.
• 20:44
  SPEAKER_09: I just whatever.
• 20:47
SPEAKER_09: So their upcoming album is called Foreign Tongues.
• 20:50
SPEAKER_09: It's coming out in July, July 10th.
• 20:53
SPEAKER_09: And so they've released two songs, Rough and Twisted and In the Stars.
• 20:59
SPEAKER_09: Um so we're gonna start with, well, let's see.
• 21:03
SPEAKER_09: Uh 2023 Hackney Diamonds was their last release, which I didn't even I mean, I think we plot probably.
• 21:09
SPEAKER_11: We I think we played a couple tracks.
• 21:11
SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it was you know, it was typical.
• 21:13
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 21:14
  SPEAKER_09: Um let's see.
• 21:17
SPEAKER_09: There's guest artists on this album.
• 21:19
SPEAKER_09: Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, Robert Smith from The Cure, Chad Smith of the Chili Peppers.
• 21:24
SPEAKER_09: Um said the the atmosphere in the room was so creative and the whole band was on top form throughout the whole thing.
• 21:30
SPEAKER_11: Wasn't Steve Jordan playing for them now?
• 21:32
  SPEAKER_09: I think so.
• 21:33
  SPEAKER_09: Playing drums, yeah.
• 21:34
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 21:34
  SPEAKER_09: I think so.
• 21:35
SPEAKER_09: So let's hear a little bit of Rough and Twisted from uh the Rolling Stones! Let me say this about it so far.
• 23:11
  SPEAKER_09: It's very bluesy.
• 23:12
  SPEAKER_09: It is very bluesy.
• 23:15
SPEAKER_09: But it's also, to me, sonically, different sounding than a Rolling Stones record.
• 23:22
  SPEAKER_09: A little bit.
• 23:23
  SPEAKER_11: It's got a fuzz on it.
• 23:24
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, like the the mixed, the instrumentation.
• 23:28
SPEAKER_09: Well, the instrumentation, not so much, but but the sound of the instruments.
• 23:32
  SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
• 23:33
  SPEAKER_09: It's thicker.
• 23:34
SPEAKER_09: And I don't know who produced this.
• 23:39
SPEAKER_09: And you're right, it is just a blue song.
• 23:41
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's all it is.
• 23:42
SPEAKER_09: Um but it's kind of getting back to their roots coming up.
• 23:46
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it sounds different than a than a Relic Stones record.
• 23:56
SPEAKER_09: I mean, when I say it sounds different, I don't mean the music, uh, the the song itself, but I mean the sound of it.
• 24:03
SPEAKER_09: You know, the the Wait, the mix.
• 24:04
  SPEAKER_09: The mix.
• 24:05
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 24:05
SPEAKER_09: It sounds it sounds a little different.
• 24:06
  SPEAKER_09: Sounds weird.
• 24:07
  SPEAKER_09: Here's another one.
• 24:08
SPEAKER_09: This is uh from uh this is from the same album, obviously.
• 24:10
SPEAKER_09: It's called In the Stars.
• 24:12
SPEAKER_09: Let's see how this one sounds.
• 24:19
  SPEAKER_11: It's like a 180 from the last one.
• 24:21
  SPEAKER_11: Really?
• 24:21
  SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I think that's a good one.
• 25:52
SPEAKER_11: It's got a very strong pop sensibility to it.
• 25:55
  SPEAKER_09: I agree.
• 25:56
  SPEAKER_09: Uh I dig it.
• 25:58
  SPEAKER_09: It's not bad.
• 25:58
SPEAKER_09: The guitar licks in the beginning.
• 26:00
SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I like the ooh.
• 26:01
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah, me too.
• 26:02
SPEAKER_09: The guitar licks in the beginning, very stoned.
• 26:05
  SPEAKER_11: Yeah, always super stoned.
• 26:06
  SPEAKER_09: Very stoned.
• 26:07
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 26:07
SPEAKER_09: But the the chorus, you're right.
• 26:09
  SPEAKER_09: It's got a nice little poppy.
• 26:11
  SPEAKER_09: Nice little hook.
• 26:12
  SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
• 26:12
SPEAKER_11: Uh I think it's the best part of this song.
• 26:15
  SPEAKER_11: It's the chorus.
• 26:16
  SPEAKER_11: I agree.
• 26:17
  SPEAKER_09: I agree.
• 26:17
SPEAKER_09: I almost want to hear it again.
• 26:20
  SPEAKER_09: Uh hold on.
• 26:24
SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's not anything radically different than they've ever gotten.
• 26:29
SPEAKER_11: It's not groundbreaking, but that's what you've gotten to know from the stones, yeah.
• 27:10
SPEAKER_09: Now it sounds like it's done.
• 27:12
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 27:12
  SPEAKER_09: Right.
• 27:15
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I think I saw Steve Jordan playing drums.
• 27:18
  SPEAKER_09: Pretty sure anyway.
• 27:20
  SPEAKER_09: Uh well, that's cool.
• 27:22
SPEAKER_09: Uh Foreign Tongues is the new album.
• 27:24
SPEAKER_09: And like I said, I I think I said comes out in July.
• 27:27
SPEAKER_09: July 10th, is that what I said?
• 27:30
  SPEAKER_11: Uh you said July.
• 27:31
  SPEAKER_11: I didn't know if you said a date or July 10th.
• 27:33
  SPEAKER_09: July 10th, okay.
• 27:34
  SPEAKER_09: July 10th.
• 27:35
  SPEAKER_09: Uh so that's cool.
• 27:36
SPEAKER_09: It's always good to have new music, especially from especially from veteran artists like uh you know.
• 27:41
SPEAKER_11: I mean, you know, Keith Richards is 473 years old.
• 27:45
  SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
• 27:46
SPEAKER_09: Let me ask you this because uh this just came up that that I forgot that we should have talked talked about this.

• 28:15
  SPEAKER_11: Okay.
• 28:16
SPEAKER_09: Now you're uh you're gonna just kind of freak when I tell you who's not on the list.
• 28:25
SPEAKER_11: I'm gonna probably hate it, I know.
• 28:27
SPEAKER_09: Um let me let me just kind of uh we'll go through.
• 28:32
SPEAKER_11: Thirty greatest living American Is that what it said?

• 29:40
SPEAKER_11: Yeah, none of these songs are like iconic.
• 29:43
SPEAKER_11: I mean, they probably are, but as far as songwriting goes, nah, brah.
• 29:48
  SPEAKER_09: Yep.
• 29:50
  SPEAKER_09: Um Lucinda Williams.
• 29:53

• 32:05
  SPEAKER_09: Not good.
• 32:06
  SPEAKER_09: Through her songs.

  SPEAKER_09: Not good.
• 32:08
  SPEAKER_09: Well, early songs.
• 32:09

• 32:11
  SPEAKER_09: No, man.
• 32:12
  SPEAKER_09: It's bubblegum.
• 32:14
SPEAKER_11: What what does bubblegum make it a bad song?
• 32:16
SPEAKER_11: It doesn't make a greatest American songwriter good.
• 32:20
  SPEAKER_11: Why?
• 32:21
SPEAKER_11: Because I said so, mother effer.
• 32:24
  unknown: Oh, okay.

  SPEAKER_09: A restaurant's decor starts a riot.
• 50:15
SPEAKER_09: You may not have seen this, but I something tells you me you might have.
• 50:18
  SPEAKER_09: Alright.
• 50:19
  SPEAKER_09: So a restaurant's decor starts a ride.
• 50:21
  SPEAKER_09: Here's the hint.
• 50:22
  SPEAKER_09: In Brooklyn, 1989.
• 50:26
SPEAKER_11: Oh, it's gotta be uh Spike Lee.
• 50:29
  SPEAKER_09: Yes, it is.
• 50:30
  SPEAKER_09: Keep going, keep going.
• 50:32
  SPEAKER_09: Frankly.

• 50:38
SPEAKER_09: You you did miss one.
• 50:40
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 50:40
SPEAKER_09: So you got three out of four.
• 50:41
  SPEAKER_09: So nice job.
• 50:43
  SPEAKER_07: Yay!

  SPEAKER_09: Yes! Okay.
• 50:54
SPEAKER_01: It's time for everyone's favorite part of the show.
• 50:58
SPEAKER_01: With everyone's favorites, O'Brien, Doug, Cousin Larry, and yours truly, Miss Judge Ness.
• 51:06
SPEAKER_01: It's time to play mixtape.
• 51:10
SPEAKER_09: Alright, so we're gonna do the past first.
• 51:16
  SPEAKER_11: And then the presentation.
• 51:17
SPEAKER_09: And then we got a special one for the future.
• 51:19
  SPEAKER_11: Cadu.
• 51:26
  SPEAKER_11: Okay.
• 51:27
SPEAKER_09: So what was last week?
• 51:29
  SPEAKER_09: Do you remember?
• 51:30
  SPEAKER_09: Okay.
• 51:30
  SPEAKER_09: We'll figure it out.
• 51:32
SPEAKER_09: That's the way I figured it out.
• 51:33
SPEAKER_09: So we just listen to her.
• 51:34
SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we'll just listen to it.
• 51:35
  SPEAKER_11: She'll tell us.
• 51:35
  SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
• 51:36
  SPEAKER_11: Okay, here we go.
• 51:38
  SPEAKER_01: Hey guys.
• 51:39
SPEAKER_01: This was a really awesome week for mixtape.
• 51:42
SPEAKER_01: And um can we do like a three-way tie?
• 51:46
SPEAKER_01: Because I feel like all three choices were perfect for going to the store and buying black boxes.
• 51:51
SPEAKER_09: Oh, the black box one.
• 51:52
SPEAKER_09: Um I did the girl for me, but eat.
• 51:54
  SPEAKER_09: That's right.
• 51:55
SPEAKER_01: If we can't do a three-way tie, um I'd have to go with Cousin Larry's pick.
• 52:03
SPEAKER_01: The parody, um, white and nerdy, because that was hilarious.
• 52:07
SPEAKER_01: But I loved all three songs.
• 52:08
SPEAKER_01: I feel like they were all three very fitting songs for that scenario.
• 52:13
SPEAKER_01: Um, so my first option is a three-way tie this week.
• 52:16
SPEAKER_01: And if we can't do a three-away tie, it would have to be Cousin Larry's.
• 52:19
  SPEAKER_09: We'll go with a three-way tie.
• 52:21
  SPEAKER_11: We'll go with a three-away tie.
• 52:21
  SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I'm I'm happy with that.
• 52:22
SPEAKER_11: That that's her initial judgment, so that's where we're going with.
• 52:25
  SPEAKER_09: That's what we're going with.
• 52:26
  SPEAKER_11: Perfect.
• 52:26
  SPEAKER_11: Perfect.
• 52:27
  SPEAKER_11: She's never wrong.
• 52:28
  SPEAKER_11: So.
• 52:28
SPEAKER_09: Alright, that is the past.
• 52:31
SPEAKER_09: And now we do the present.
• 52:33
SPEAKER_09: And the present question is I got it right here.
• 52:37
SPEAKER_09: You got it right there.
• 52:38
SPEAKER_09: What album or song would you listen to during the passionate creation of your first masterpiece?
• 52:48
  SPEAKER_09: Why are you smiling?
• 52:52
SPEAKER_11: I'm just thinking how great you know, Jay-Z is.
• 52:57
SPEAKER_11: I hate life right now.
• 53:02
  SPEAKER_13: I hate everything.
• 53:04
SPEAKER_11: Uh okay, that's what Kazalarry said.
• 53:07
  SPEAKER_11: Mixtape.
• 53:07
SPEAKER_11: At first I kind of looked at this the same way O'Brien did when he referred to Olivia being his first masterpiece.
• 53:14
SPEAKER_11: A Bow Chica wow wow song seems to be fitting.
• 53:24
SPEAKER_11: Uh the first song I thought of was Meatloaf's Paradise by the Dashboard Light.
• 53:28
  SPEAKER_11: Okay.
• 53:28
SPEAKER_11: I also thought of the music Bolero from the movie 10 and Rod Stewart's Tonight's the Night.
• 53:35
SPEAKER_11: But I think if I'm wanting just wanting to be creative, I would pick a Beatles tune.
• 53:41
  SPEAKER_11: Duh.
• 53:41
  SPEAKER_11: Duh.
• 53:42
SPEAKER_11: Uh who was more creative than the Fab Four?
• 53:44
  SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
• 53:45
SPEAKER_11: I will go with one of my faves.
• 53:47
SPEAKER_11: All you need is love.
• 53:48
SPEAKER_11: It kind of fits no matter how you interpret the question.
• 53:52
SPEAKER_11: Honorable mention to Strawberry Fields.
• 53:55
  SPEAKER_11: There we go.
• 53:58
SPEAKER_11: Two weeks in a row, we've had Beatles.
• 54:00
  SPEAKER_11: That's a good sign.
• 54:01
SPEAKER_09: All is right with the world.
• 54:03
  SPEAKER_09: Yes.
• 54:03
  SPEAKER_09: Indeed.
• 54:05
  SPEAKER_09: Uh so yeah, no.
• 54:07
SPEAKER_09: All you need is love.
• 54:11
SPEAKER_09: This incidentally was the first satellite television.
• 54:15
  SPEAKER_11: Satellite, televised, satellite worldwide.
• 54:17
  SPEAKER_09: Worldwide.
• 54:18
  SPEAKER_09: Yep.
• 54:18
  SPEAKER_09: Yep.
• 54:22
SPEAKER_09: I say that to my second graders because we had the Beatles last week last month.
• 54:26
SPEAKER_09: They don't know that what I'm talking about.
• 54:28
SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, they have no clue.
• 54:29
  SPEAKER_09: No.
• 55:26
  SPEAKER_09: Alright.
• 55:27
  SPEAKER_09: Good choice.
• 55:28
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 55:28
  SPEAKER_09: What is your pick?
• 55:29
SPEAKER_11: You're not ready for my pick.
• 55:33
  SPEAKER_09: Not even close.
• 55:34
  SPEAKER_09: Very interested.
• 55:34
  SPEAKER_09: Very interested.
• 55:36
  SPEAKER_11: No.
• 55:37
SPEAKER_09: Do you not want to give it to me?
• 55:39
  SPEAKER_09: You can't handle it.
• 55:40
SPEAKER_09: You said that before, and it was it was hilarious.
• 55:43
  SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
• 55:44
  SPEAKER_11: It's the Huggies commercial.
• 55:46
  SPEAKER_11: I'm a big kid now.
• 55:50
  SPEAKER_09: Okay.
• 55:51
  SPEAKER_09: Uh please explain.
• 55:52
SPEAKER_11: Because you my first masterpiece was when I, you know, was toilet trained.
• 55:59
  SPEAKER_12: I'm a big kid.
• 56:01
SPEAKER_12: Look what I can do.
• 56:03
SPEAKER_12: I can wear big kid pants too.
• 56:07
SPEAKER_00: Only pull-ups training pants have stretchy sides.
• 56:11
SPEAKER_00: Like real underpants for the snuggest, trimmest big kid fit.
• 56:15
SPEAKER_13: And I can pull them off and on.
• 56:17
SPEAKER_00: For protection and fit, there's nothing like pull-ups.
• 56:20
  SPEAKER_13: Mommy, wow!
• 56:23
  SPEAKER_00: I'm a big kid now.
• 56:30
  SPEAKER_09: You're right, I wasn't ready for that.
• 56:31
  SPEAKER_09: Told you.
• 56:35
SPEAKER_09: Let's just let's just let's just hear that again.
• 56:38
SPEAKER_12: I'm a big kid and look what I can do.
• 56:42
SPEAKER_12: I can wear big kid pants too.
• 56:47
SPEAKER_00: Only pull-ups training pants have stretchy sides.
• 56:50
SPEAKER_00: Like pants for the snuggest, trimmest big kid fit.
• 56:54
SPEAKER_13: And I can pull them off and on for protection and fit.
• 56:57
  SPEAKER_00: There's nothing like pull-ups.
• 57:00
SPEAKER_12: Mommy, wow! I'm a big kid now.
• 57:05
  SPEAKER_09: Oh, that's classic.
• 57:07
  SPEAKER_09: Oh my word.
• 57:09
  SPEAKER_09: Oh my goodness.
• 57:10
  SPEAKER_09: Alright.
• 57:11
SPEAKER_09: So, yes, my mind went there.
• 57:14
SPEAKER_09: Uh let me read it again.
• 57:15
SPEAKER_09: What album or song would you listen to during the passionate creation of your first masterpiece?
• 57:21
  SPEAKER_09: So, yep.
• 57:22
SPEAKER_09: Uh I'm I'm going with this one.
• 57:26
SPEAKER_09: Not this one, this is a commercial.
• 57:28
SPEAKER_11: I was about to say ping pong.
• 57:30
  SPEAKER_09: No.
• 57:33
  SPEAKER_09: No.
• 57:34
  SPEAKER_09: This isn't it.
• 57:40
  SPEAKER_09: Ah, yeah.
• 57:42
  SPEAKER_09: It's bad company.
• 57:50
SPEAKER_02: When I think about you.
• 58:01
  SPEAKER_02: I don't live without you.
• 59:01
  SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I'm leaving.
• 59:05

• 59:08
  SPEAKER_02: Think about a love.
• 59:09

• 59:12
SPEAKER_09: Um, the I'm a big kid now, Huggy's commercial.
• 59:17
  SPEAKER_09: Live without choice.
• 59:17
  SPEAKER_09: It's Duck's choice.
• 59:19
  SPEAKER_02: Live without a love.
• 59:21
SPEAKER_09: And cousin Larry's choice was holy.
• 59:26
SPEAKER_09: It was like just two seconds ago.
• 59:28
SPEAKER_09: All you need is love.

• 59:30
  SPEAKER_09: My goodness.
• 59:32
SPEAKER_09: Uh so there you go.
• 59:33
SPEAKER_09: That is uh our present choice.
• 59:36
SPEAKER_09: We did the past, and that's the present choice.
• 59:38
SPEAKER_09: And so we have a kind of a special uh um special request, I guess.
• 59:44
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 59:45
  SPEAKER_09: For uh mixtape future.
• 59:48
SPEAKER_09: And so we're not even gonna we're not even gonna draw the card here.
• 59:51
SPEAKER_09: Um we had a friend of ours reach out to us and who uh well actually we didn't know uh was has been we know the friend.
• 1:00:00

SPEAKER_09: 34 treatments or something like that.
• 1:00:18
  SPEAKER_09: Something like that.
• 1:00:19
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 1:00:19
SPEAKER_09: And this person um made a request of um you and I and um cousin Larry.
• 1:00:29

• 1:00:36
SPEAKER_09: Uh to come up with a well actually let me read it so I don't uh so I don't get it wrong.
• 1:00:43

• 1:01:01
SPEAKER_09: Um could you, cousin Larry and her judgeness, do a special mixtape for me?
• 1:01:09
SPEAKER_09: What song would you play to motivate me every day as I face the 34 visits?

• 1:01:35
SPEAKER_11: Each of us will pick a song so it kind of makes like a play.
• 1:01:37
  SPEAKER_11: A playlist.
• 1:01:38
  SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
• 1:01:38
  SPEAKER_09: Even if it's a four-song playlist.

• 1:09:30
SPEAKER_09: Um you know the the big one, which is this one.
• 1:09:42
SPEAKER_09: So I think it's actually their first single.
• 1:09:45
  SPEAKER_11: I think so too.
• 1:09:46
SPEAKER_11: This is the first song I ever remember from Bruce Hornsby.
• 1:09:49
SPEAKER_09: And it's such a great this is a this is a uh statement on society.
• 1:09:54
SPEAKER_09: Um but he had his own unique sound.
• 1:09:59
  SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
• 1:10:00
SPEAKER_09: Um that synthesizer in the background.
• 1:10:03
SPEAKER_09: It was it was like on every one of his songs.
• 1:10:45
  SPEAKER_04: Get a job.
• 1:10:53
SPEAKER_05: Some things will never change.
• 1:10:55
  SPEAKER_09: He's from Virginia.
• 1:10:57
  SPEAKER_09: What's that?
• 1:10:58
  SPEAKER_09: He's from Virginia.
• 1:10:58
  SPEAKER_09: Is it right?
• 1:10:59

• 1:11:11
SPEAKER_09: Um, the Bruce Hornsby trio.
• 1:11:16
SPEAKER_09: Um a very storied career.
• 1:11:20
  SPEAKER_09: Uh, this guy.
• 1:11:22
SPEAKER_09: Um once in a while I get him and Stevie Wynwood mixed up.
• 1:11:27
  SPEAKER_09: I could see that.
• 1:11:28
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 1:11:28
SPEAKER_09: Because there's a lot of that synthesizer in the background.
• 1:11:30
  SPEAKER_09: You know?
• 1:11:31
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 1:11:31
  SPEAKER_09: Um, here's another.
• 1:11:32
SPEAKER_09: I think this was the second single from this album.
• 1:11:36
  SPEAKER_09: This is Mandolin Rain.
• 1:11:38
  SPEAKER_09: Another great song.
• 1:11:40
SPEAKER_09: Why isn't Bruce Hornsby in the top 30, top 50?
• 1:11:44
SPEAKER_09: Because his name's not Young Thugs.
• 1:12:06
SPEAKER_09: Does this take you back?
• 1:12:08
  SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
• 1:12:08
SPEAKER_09: Every time I hear horns beats it takes me right back to where I was in 1986 or seven.
• 1:12:17
SPEAKER_04: After the sheep smile, it would last for a while you don't know.
• 1:12:24
SPEAKER_04: What you got to lose it all again.
• 1:12:36
SPEAKER_04: Oh, listen to my heart.
• 1:12:39
SPEAKER_04: Every time she was away.
• 1:12:43
SPEAKER_09: Alright, so that was the second single.
• 1:12:44
  SPEAKER_09: Third single.
• 1:12:47
SPEAKER_09: This is every little kiss.
• 1:12:48
SPEAKER_09: Do you remember this one?
• 1:12:51
  SPEAKER_11: Vaguely?
• 1:12:52
  SPEAKER_09: Hmm.
• 1:12:52
SPEAKER_09: This one has harmonica from Huey Lewis.
• 1:12:56
  SPEAKER_09: Oh, that's the connection.
• 1:12:57
SPEAKER_09: Towards the end of it.
• 1:12:57
  SPEAKER_09: Well, they're very good.
• 1:12:58
SPEAKER_09: They were very good friends.
• 1:12:59
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 1:13:00
SPEAKER_09: And he's Huey Lewis is also on another song on the album.
• 1:13:04
SPEAKER_09: You'll you'll recognize this song here in a second.
• 1:13:38
SPEAKER_09: That melody right there is a hook.
• 1:13:53
SPEAKER_09: Are you familiar with this whole album or no?
• 1:13:55
  SPEAKER_09: Not really not.
• 1:14:49
SPEAKER_09: Alright, so that was the third single.
• 1:14:51
SPEAKER_09: And I don't know that there were any other singles from that album, but I do know that there were a couple that were in movies.
• 1:14:57
SPEAKER_09: Have you ever seen uh Kevin Bacon movie?
• 1:15:01
SPEAKER_09: Uh I think it was Long uh Long Hot Summer or Long uh Was it was it in that special section?
• 1:15:11
SPEAKER_09: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
• 1:15:13
SPEAKER_09: It was uh it was Kevin Bacon, it was Sean Aston.
• 1:15:16
SPEAKER_09: It was where where these uh teenage boys went on this like hiking trip with with Kevin Bacon, who was a little older than they were.
• 1:15:22
SPEAKER_09: It was like a guide, uh, but he turned out to be kind of like a psychotic dude.
• 1:15:28
SPEAKER_09: Uh long summer um I never saw it, so no.
• 1:15:42
  SPEAKER_11: I'm not familiar.
• 1:15:44
  SPEAKER_09: Whitewater Summer.
• 1:15:45
  SPEAKER_09: 1987.
• 1:15:46
  SPEAKER_09: That's what it was.
• 1:15:47
  SPEAKER_09: So Whitewater Summer.
• 1:15:49
SPEAKER_09: Great movie, by the way.
• 1:15:50
SPEAKER_09: Um but the song that I'm gonna play next as soon as I figure out what I'm doing here was featured in that movie, and that is this one.
• 1:16:12
SPEAKER_09: It's called the Wild Frontier.
• 1:17:13
SPEAKER_09: I'm just gonna play a little sample of some other ones from this album.
• 1:17:16
SPEAKER_09: It's called The Long Race.
• 1:17:26
SPEAKER_09: This one is uh uh down the road tonight.
• 1:17:30
SPEAKER_09: This is one that Huey Lewis is on.
• 1:17:31
SPEAKER_09: He actually sings on and plays harmonica.
• 1:17:37
SPEAKER_09: Sounds like a Huey Lewis song.
• 1:17:38
  SPEAKER_09: Does it?
• 1:17:39
SPEAKER_09: Well, you know the song uh Jacob's Ladder?
• 1:17:41
SPEAKER_11: Well, it sounds like my baby.
• 1:17:45
  SPEAKER_09: Yep.
• 1:17:45
SPEAKER_09: Doing it all for my baby, whatever.
• 1:17:47
SPEAKER_09: But you know the Huey Lewis song Jacob's Ladder, I mean Jacob.
• 1:17:50
  SPEAKER_09: Bruce Hornsby wrote that.
• 1:17:51
  SPEAKER_09: Oh, did he?
• 1:17:52
  SPEAKER_11: Okay.
• 1:17:59
SPEAKER_09: Just that whole vibe with the synthesizer behind it.
• 1:18:03
  SPEAKER_09: To me, it's I don't know, it's very nostalgic.
• 1:18:05
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 1:18:08
SPEAKER_04: She knows how to walk away.
• 1:18:11
SPEAKER_04: She don't talk much, but she knows just how to air.
• 1:18:19
SPEAKER_09: Uh then he's got a couple of slow ones, but they're very cool.
• 1:18:22
SPEAKER_09: This is called The Red Plains.
• 1:18:24
SPEAKER_09: This is one of my favorite songs from the album.
• 1:18:30
SPEAKER_09: Cause it's well, it's like this for the whole for the verses.
• 1:19:25
SPEAKER_09: And these are all from The Way It Is, which is a debut album from Bruce Hornsby in the Range.
• 1:19:30
SPEAKER_09: And then, of course, they would put out uh at least one more album as the range, Bruce Hornsby in the Range.
• 1:19:36
SPEAKER_09: And they had a couple bunch of hits off that as well.
• 1:19:38
SPEAKER_09: And then I think it it was I he they did a uh couple soundtracks.
• 1:19:44
SPEAKER_09: Um what was the uh oh what was the Baywatch one?
• 1:19:48
  SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
• 1:19:49
SPEAKER_09: Baywatch, this one right here.
• 1:19:51
SPEAKER_09: Uh so I remember a one Baywatch episode started uh with this this song right here.
• 1:19:58
SPEAKER_09: And I and I the song builds the beginning, and you know, you're seeing like the beach and everything.
• 1:20:07
SPEAKER_09: Is that where Baywatch took place?
• 1:20:09
SPEAKER_09: Yes, and then when the song kicks in the mountains.
• 1:20:13
SPEAKER_09: When the song kicks in, I think it it cuts to like David Azloff?
• 1:20:19
SPEAKER_09: No, uh uh girls in bathing suits running.
• 1:20:21
SPEAKER_09: I think Oh, that never happened in Baywatch.
• 1:20:24
SPEAKER_09: I'm pretty sure that's I'd have to look at it again, but that's all I remember.
• 1:20:29
SPEAKER_09: What else do you need to remember?
• 1:20:31
SPEAKER_09: Right here is where it kicks in.
• 1:20:39
SPEAKER_09: Anyway, I I distinctly remember this in a Baywatch episode.
• 1:20:42
SPEAKER_09: Not that I watch Baywatch very often.
• 1:20:43
  SPEAKER_09: No.
• 1:20:44
SPEAKER_09: But I saw that episode and I was like, oh, Bruce Hortons.
• 1:20:47
  SPEAKER_11: I'm I'm just it's like I read Playboy for the articles.
• 1:20:51
SPEAKER_11: I watch Baywatch for Bruce Hortzman.
• 1:20:53
SPEAKER_09: Playboy had some pretty good articles, though.
• 1:20:55
  SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
• 1:20:56
  SPEAKER_09: They really did.
• 1:20:56
  SPEAKER_11: I don't remember reading anything.
• 1:21:03
  SPEAKER_09: Not even stats.
• 1:21:04
  SPEAKER_09: There were words?
• 1:21:05
  SPEAKER_09: Not even stats?
• 1:21:07
  SPEAKER_09: No.
• 1:21:08
  SPEAKER_09: No.
• 1:21:09
  SPEAKER_09: Like hobbies?
• 1:21:10
  SPEAKER_11: No.
• 1:21:11
SPEAKER_11: No, I just I don't remember any words period.
• 1:21:20
  SPEAKER_11: Okay.
• 1:21:20
  SPEAKER_11: Alright.

• 1:21:23
  SPEAKER_11: Nope.
• 1:21:25
  SPEAKER_11: Did you see it?
• 1:21:25

SPEAKER_11: If Reed if you buy read, you mean stare at the pictures.
• 1:21:32
  SPEAKER_11: Yes, yes.
• 1:21:34
  SPEAKER_11: I did read that.
• 1:21:35
SPEAKER_09: So anyway, but that is the album.
• 1:21:37
SPEAKER_09: Bruce Hornsby and the Range the Way it is, their debut album from 1986.
• 1:21:42
  SPEAKER_09: 86.
• 1:21:43
SPEAKER_09: I also just noticed that uh three of the songs on the album were produced by Huey Lewis.
• 1:21:47
  SPEAKER_09: Oh, there we go.
• 1:21:48
  SPEAKER_09: There you go.
