- Micaiah: Fourth and one podcast time. Welcome back, everybody. So excited to be here today. It is Tuesday, June 23rd, 2026. It's Captain Boring alongside my main man, Robert Hokan Queso. Welcome, welcome, welcome. Don't forget to like and subscribe and share wherever we can do that. It's another day, another dollar. How you doing, Rob? Roberto Con Queso: Hey, we're doing pretty swell. How are you doing? Micaiah: I'm doing all right. The camera's working. So we're off to a better start than how we finished last podcast. So that's always good. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, I'm sorry I'm s I'm looking for the over under things, like Micaiah: All right, all right. Yeah, Robert is still doing homework that I assigned to him not even 30 seconds ago. So ⁓ I'm gonna just talk a little bit why Robert's kind of finding that, catch everyone up, because I had a very different episode than what was planned for today. What I had, we'll get into what I planned for today. However, two things that happened within about an hour of each other came down, and so I just think we comment on them. Number one, the NFL nixes the supplemental draft, meanwhile, meaning that Brendan Soy Soresby is stuck in limbo and will not play football this fall and can re-enter next April's NFL draft. I thought that the supplemental draft was like a whole bunch of players. From what I understand now, is it was writ they were really only going to have it for Brendan Sor like it's one player, like one player applies for it. I guess you can throw in more applications. But Brendan Sworesby had to apply for this. I didn't know this. I was reading it. He had to apply for it. And the NFL basically said there's a whole bunch of problems with your applications. Basically, they told Brendan Sorsby they don't think that he's actually sorry for what he did. So they're not holding the supplemental draft. I don't know. Did did you read any of the statement? Roberto Con Queso: I didn't read I didn't read like too far into it. I read what like the NFL sent him and like it just was just saying that there's a lot of problems with his application and that it was he's more or less just trying to get away from Micaiah: Yeah, that letter, yeah. Roberto Con Queso: the not allegations, but like the possible punishments that could be involved with the NCAA, so they were just like, yeah. Micaiah: So I I would also assume that the NFL like doesn't want gambling in its league and so this is their way of punishing him without punishing him. Of course, Soresby lawyer's gonna try to take on the NFL lawyers and that has never ended well, but you know, maybe they'll have success. They did once, right? Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, but I mean, they could go and say like there's lawyers could fight and say, Yeah, they need to have a supplemental draft and the NFL could say, Yeah, okay and then they can turn around and say, Any team that drafts him just know if you sneeze wrong, like the NFL's down your throat. Like you're gonna get a lot more hate and criticism for him being on your team than you are with not doing. Micaiah: Yeah, ⁓ they didn't want the distraction as well. for they said for the teams. I'm sure it is for the league, not just the teams, because the NFL is about itself. So Brendan Soresby, these are consequences of your actions, of his actions. Everyone online saying that Texas Tech did nothing wrong. Technically, you are correct. Morally, they did something wrong. ⁓ you can say that's a lot for a Michigan fan to stand on. However, voting on or ⁓ Gambling on your own team while you're in college is a little bit different than something that is legal in the NFL. I will point that out, and advanced scouting, but you are all just angry, and that's fine too. The other thing that happened, Robert, don't know if you saw this, the NCAA approved an age-based five-year eligibility rule. So they are saying that they have five years to play. ⁓ and that clock starts at the completion of high school graduation or an athlete's 19th birthday, whichever comes first. There would be limited exceptions for factors like religious missions, maternity leave, and military service ⁓ service. So that is huge. That means on paper, we won't have these six, seventh, eighth year players running around college football playing. You basically have five years from graduation high school or nineteenth birthday. So let's just take nineteenth birthday. What is that? Twenty four? That's the oldest you can be to play college football. Yay. Or not yay. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, yeah, I'm I mean, I'm cool with it because we're kinda getting back to where it should be. Like your job isn't college football. Like you go to college to get an education slash play college football because the education essentially is what comes first. Right? That's kind of the reason college is there, the education aspect of it and then football's the side portion. If you're good enough to make it to the NFL, you should want to get to the NFL as fast as possible. You should not want to be twenty eight then going to the NFL because then you're Chris Wankey and you're not gonna have a good NFL career. Micaiah: ⁓ Chris Chris Wankey just taking a random stray from Robert here on random Tuesday in June. Roberto Con Queso: That was the only thing 'cause I think he w I think he was the oldest Micaiah: He was pretty old, yeah. Yeah, I th he he was pretty old, yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Heisman winner. And then like he got he I think he was like twenty nine or something when he got to the NFL that I could be way off of the number, but he was old but he was older than what you normally would get to the NFL, which generally ends up as being not good for your career. Micaiah: Well, Brandon Wheating was pretty old. I'm looking it up now. ⁓ what does it say? He was twenty-eight years old, entered the NFL at twenty-eight and retired at thirty five. What about Brandon Wheaton? Because he he was pretty old too. He was also twenty eight years old. So and yes, they both kind of flamed out. And NFL doesn't like older players anyway, to begin with, because it's that second contract, right? That is where you really get all you get the prime talent in the second contract. That's where most NFL players make their money is with that second contract. How does this in so there's no red shirting virtually anymore? You get five years, right? How does this impact football? Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ huh. Micaiah: Because now it was already an open market, but now it really becomes that five star true freshman. Hey, like my clock is ticking. There's no redshirting. I want to play as a freshman. I would have to imagine that that's impacts in that way, right? Roberto Con Queso: Well, by them giving you five years, that gives you that red shirt year. 'Cause you red shirt redshirt freshman, then you have your redshirt freshman, sophomore, junior, senior year. Micaiah: ⁓ Well right, but there i but there is no so they can play five years now. Now they don't have to sit one and then play four. They can play all five. Roberto Con Queso: Okay. In the same sense though, you would Most coaches I would say are probably still going to want to red shirt some players. But then I guess you really wouldn't have to, but it would serve the same purpose because there's very few f freshmen that come into college football and start right away. Micaiah: Right. So I I guess that right, that and that's and that's kind of my point. But if you have one now, now you can't be like, let's give you a year to develop when that freshman's like, Well, I'm gonna lose that year anyway. So I could go, does this like a five star comes out? Does he go to a lower level school so he can play that first year and kind of treat it like JUCO? Roberto Con Queso: I guess I would say yeah, but then essentially the way the teams are throwing around money for five stars, why would you not just stay for that year, get paid big bucks, and then move and then leave? It's like, yeah, you burn a year, but you're still getting experience plus money. Now you transfer down one like say Ohio State. Ohio State always gets the best receivers, essentially. Micaiah: Right. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Right. Roberto Con Queso: You know, because of Heartline. So if you're if six five stars come in, we'll say one of them. Like the the worst of the six is probably still, I mean, even for Michigan, the worst of the six is probably still wide receiver number one, number two at Michigan. Obviously, because we don't recruit high wide receivers. So why would you not stay? Micaiah: Yeah, right. Yeah. ⁓ huh. Right. Roberto Con Queso: Get experience at Ohio State just for that one year. Maybe you get a national championship out, a Big Ten title, what have you, probably close to two hundred and fifty to five hundred thousand dollars, and then say, Okay, now I'll transfer to Michigan, Michigan State, whoever, which would still be a division one Big Ten program or SEC whatever. And then it's like, well, I have a year under my belt already, because you're gonna essentially have that cycle at every single college. Unless you really want to be a dog and be like, yeah, I'm a five star and I'm going to ball state. You know what I mean? And be like, I'm just gonna play from the first snap. Micaiah: R right, right, to be able to play that that first year. I get the way I'm thinking about it, like, say if you're Georgia, right? You want to bring in talent, right? You want the five star. But you're gonna have to be honest with them. I mean, like, we're trying to win a national championship, and unless if it is one of these just outstanding Jeremiah Smith type freshmen. Then you're gonna have to tell them you're gonna sit this year and do, and can they work the contracts now? Cause now we're talking money, to be like this first year, you're gonna come in and you're gonna mind majority sit. You might appear in six games, you know, have some stats, but you're gonna we're gonna use this to develop you. We're not gonna pay you a whole lot this year because of that, but then in year two and year three, your contract elevates. Like, do teams Like I'm thinking about the money aspect and the roster building aspect of how this impacts high level programs now. Roberto Con Queso: Well does this worsen your high level programs now because you kind of banked on that year you banked on one year of them being able to not they take a roster spot essentially, but they still get all the all the experience to redshirt them. Where now with the transfer portal Is it gonna be the cycle where five stars come in, they go to lesser tier schools, get their playing time, experience those one to two years, get in the transfer portal, now they end up at the bigger schools. Do they is it like a big washing machine essentially, or a big wave where you start small, get your experience, your tape, now to big programs instead of staying at big programs? And then not only fighting next year's five stars, but this year's five stars and the transfer portal. Micaiah: Right, and and that is that that's gonna be the interesting question. And I think it has been proven since the portal opened that if you're in the portal, you are more you are still more valuable than the high schoolers. They'll pay you a lot of money for the high schoolers, but the the guys in the portal are more valuable than the high schoolers. Roberto Con Queso: Right, yeah. Well and that's because the I'm gonna knock the coaches because we don't have developmental coaches that much anymore. Kirby, like Kirby was still developmental. He developed the kids to get better. ⁓ you know, Urban, he was a developmental kind of guy, Saban, where now it's okay, I'm not sold on Signetti being a development first guy. He it seems like right now it's Micaiah: Right. Roberto Con Queso: The Mel Tucker route. Okay, we're gonna grab some guys from over here, we're gonna grab guys from over here, and then we might develop maybe five and then put them all together. Micaiah: Is is that So so are the coaches adapting to college football or is college football adapting to the coaches? You get what I'm saying? Like is i in in another lifetime, yeah. Okay, good. Roberto Con Queso: It I wanna it might be both. It's kind I wanna say that college football is adapting to the coaches as well as the coaches are adapting to college football, and that might be why a lot of your older coaches are leaving or switching teams as much as they are. Like Lane, you know, Lane. I he developed he develops at first But then it's turning into now we're just gonna start grabbing it because now we have more money. So you kind of walk away from the developmental aspect of it. Micaiah: Sure. Right. I I I do agree that the program that can kind of walk that line and and do like a 50-50 split is probably going to be one that has most success over the year. Or at least ⁓ a little more development than Portal. I still I still think development's the way to go. ⁓ now Indiana, they All the most of the players or some of the players were old JMU players, right? And so they were developed under Signeti. They just but then you had the portal. They were all, they they went all in the portal. But I think the most successful teams in recent memories, the Ohio State, the Michigans, the the two Georgia teams before that, they all were development, then they all had kids on out those teams three, two, three, four. five years even some of them. And is that gone? Does this new rule help that? Does this new rule hurt that? Or does this new rule change that? I don't know. It'll be a couple years. It'll be this time next year in twenty eight or twenty nine, twenty thirty, you know, until we find that answer. Roberto Con Queso: Right, 'cause it you're not gonna it's not gonna be your big programs aren't the big programs aren't gonna be developing the kids. Your smaller programs are gonna be the ones developing the kids. Big colleges grab ⁓ from the transfer portal, but then the big but then they also might have like the handful of five star kids that they brought in that they developed. Micaiah: Right. And that has always been why I've made the argument that get disallowing or making it harder for smaller conferences to be a popular college football playoff is bad for the sport. The sport's got trickle down economics. The sport needs every single level of football, every single talented little nurkin' cranny it can pull from in order to stay healthy. You gotta have the little bird that picks all the old food out of the crocodiles or hippo's teeth, whatever that is, right? For that for the hippo and the crack not to get dental disease and live. Right, right. That that's what I'm talking about. So you need to there there needs to be a path for JMU and Tulane to make the college football playoff. There needs to be a path for Boise in North Dakota State to rise and fall with the ranks. Roberto Con Queso: The symbiotic relation. Micaiah: People are gonna hate to hear this, but about four or five years ago, Simeon said they should just go to kind of the Premier League relegation model and it would be better for the sport. And we're kind of trending that way now, especially with the Big Ten and the SEC not liking this new save college sports bill that passed and now is going to the Senate, right? So it'll be a very interesting thing to watch moving forward, but I just want to let everyone know that that I had one podcast plan and now that came down, and now we're gonna get to what I had planned, which is a fun game and a hypothetical exercise. I will let Robert choose which he wants to do first. Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ let's go a little hypothetical. Micaiah: Okay, we're gonna play a hypothetical game. ⁓ where is this? So, how this game works is we are going to take the win totals from some teams. Robert's gonna throw some teams at me, I'm gonna throw some teams at him. We're gonna go one at a time. For example, let me just explain the game. We are going to go and we are going to say Mississippi State on FanDuel, their over-under win total is four and a half. The hypothetical game is let's just say they win five. Every team we bring in, we are going to say is going to do a half game better than their overall win total. So everyone's going to hit the over. Is that fan base going to be happy with that result? Siski and McCready, I believe. They played this game and I was wildly entertained and I thought it sounded like fun. You like hypothetical games. I like talking to you. So we're gonna play this game for everybody. Okay? So I did steal I did steal this idea, and I will take full credit credit for stealing the idea, but it's a fun game either way. So I'm gonna start out with one and I'm going to start in the SEC. Roberto Con Queso: Tell you what, bud, I like talking to you too. Micaiah: And I'm gonna go to the most toxist toxic relationship in all the sports. That's the LSU and Lane Kiffen train. Their overunder is eight. So again, is the LSU fan base gonna be happy if they only win nine games and go nine and three? Roberto Con Queso: For year one, I would say yes. But that all depends on the wins that those nine wins. Is one of those wins Alabama? Is one of those wins Georgia? The the bigger the big dogs of the SEC. Right. ⁓ I would say they'll be 'cause I don't remember what they finished last year, but I think they'll be happy with a year one nine win. Micaiah: Right. On their schedule, sure. Roberto Con Queso: Even though expeditions are super high, as long as those wins are the big quality wins. You know, if you drop one to Micaiah: Kentucky? Vanderbilt? Mississippi State? Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Sure. You know Texas A and ⁓ at the end of the year, whatever. Yeah, you you dr you know, you you lose some dumb ones like the week after the big ones. But Micaiah: Okay, all right. ⁓ Alright, now you give me one and we're just gonna go back and forth. Roberto Con Queso: All right. Hey, let's travel to the big twelve. ⁓ Colorado. Four four and a half. They they okay with five? Micaiah: Okay. Okay. So five. I'm gonna say no. So they they were not very good first year. Second year, Dion, they made a bowl game. Last year did they make a bowl game? I wanna say no. Roberto Con Queso: I want to say no as well. Micaiah: So y you gotta I'm looking that up right now. You gotta get on You you gotta make a bowl game. This is Dion's fourth year. Okay, yeah. You lost the Heisman winner and two draft picks, one at quarterback. You lost a first round. Abs exceptional talent. Okay, there's just there's some drop off expected, but not again for another year. Let let me see what twenty-five was. ⁓ okay, that was twenty-four, twenty-four. Okay, twenty-five. So they were they lost off the bat, then they won. And one, two, three. Roberto Con Queso: Commercial Micaiah: Did they only have three wins last year? Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ I don't it wasn't a good year because their five star quarterback they he didn't start. It was the kid from Liberty. Micaiah: Yeah. I the they only had three wins last year, I'm pretty sure. That's where I'm looking at. That's embarrassing. So I I my my answer still stands. Like I think if they miss a bowl game, Dion's being let go. Roberto Con Queso: The expectation's so high for him, right? Like unreasonably high. Micaiah: Mm-hmm. Cause Colorado was not good before he got there. Now he came in and he's talking some crap, but ⁓ that that is where we're ending up. All right, we're gonna go to the big ten. We're gonna go center of the United States, big red, the corn. Nebraska, their over under is six and a half. So are they happy if they hit seven? Roberto Con Queso: Gonna say no. I think the fan base is over it. I think they are reaching the I want to win now. I want to be talked about in the Big Ten. I wanna be one of the top three, four teams. And I wanna win by more than three. I think that's probably like a good argument. Micaiah: Win they either need to start winning by more than three or start losing by more than one score. One of the two, baby. No, that that must be the most frustrating thing to be a Nebraska fan. And just every week knowing that you're gonna be in a nail biter one way or the other. Right? At least if you're bad, you know that when you face Georgia, you're gonna get your teeth smacked in. Right. Right. Roberto Con Queso: Something's gotta give. Yeah. A hundred percent. Let's see. Let's give you kind of a Okay, Penn State. Nine and a half. They happy with ten? Micaiah: Okay. They should be ecstatic with ten. I think if it's ten and two, they're looking down the barrel at college football playoff. Roberto Con Queso: So ten and two, however, looking at their schedule, their hardest team they play is gonna be Michigan. Micaiah: So then I I guess it would depend on where their losses came, right? And how many and how many ranked teams. So they should okay, they should be happy with ten and two. But ten and two is gonna give them nightmares of James Franklin. And if they right. Roberto Con Queso: Right. You know, do they But right. Because it's literally the same stuff. Micaiah: But but it's your first year coach too. Roberto Con Queso: 'Cause if you're happy at ten and two at the end of this season, every single one of those fans needs to write James Franken a letter apologizing for being upset when he was ten and two. Like If you're gonna start being I rate at ten and two, you continue being I rate at ten and two. Micaiah: Yeah, yeah, okay. You know what? Yeah. So all right, fine. You convinced me. The answer's no. They shouldn't be happy. Okay, fine. You you ⁓ you convinced me. We are gonna go to the ACC and we are going to Roberto Con Queso: Okay, Virginia Tech. Is that is that where you're going? Micaiah: No, but I can go there, sure. So V Virginia Tech, six and a half, so seven. Are they happy with seven? Let's go to the other side of it, right? Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ okay. I'm gonna say yes. Again, first year head coach. But in the same sense, you should also say no because James, you know, James Franklin is generally good for ten wins. But I think at first at Penn State he wasn't that great. It wasn't it didn't start off very well. Micaiah: Yeah. Yeah. N yeah, no. He was hovering around seven, eight, nine wins, I think, yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Right. But I mean, still Virginia Tech at this moment, seven wins, that's a comfortable start. I would be if I was a Virginia Tech fan, which I am not, I would be excited. I would be okay with that. You know, you're trending in the right direction to being a competitive force in the in a very weakened ACC. Micaiah: I I think your ⁓ your rationale for Penn State, how why Penn Staters shouldn't be happy with ten and two is the same rationale why Virginia Teckers should be happy with seven wins. They would have killed these last couple years to win seven games and be nationally relevant end of September, beginning of October. Because if you're right, you're seven and five at the beginning of November, you're probably five and two. Right? Middle of October, you're five and two. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: So you're nationally at least talked about in the middle of October, which I think is is what this program wants to be, and it's a good first stepping stone. Roberto Con Queso: All right, let's go. I wanted to give you per due at three and a half, but being pumped up at four wins is terrible. ⁓ Oklahoma State. So five and a half is giving you six. Micaiah: ⁓ I think the answer's yes. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. They have more fun fact of the day, they have more SEC wins in the last two years than they have Big Twelve wins. They are one and they are one and ⁓ against the SEC and they are ⁓ and eighteen against the Big Twelve. So I'm going to say that yes, if they win, they're five and a half, so if they win six. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. They haven't won a conference game in two years. Micaiah: That is the one thing I saw. Yes. Roberto Con Queso: Well, eighteen, that's ⁓ and eighteen, that's Yeah, I guess that would still be two years. Micaiah: Yeah, in yeah. Yeah, they they were they've been bad. So yes, I mean I they they would be thrilled. I would be as an Oklahoma State fan. Again, I'm not. I would be thrilled with that because now that means you're winning conference games, maybe your stadium's a little more filled out. You you don't gotta be all you don't gotta be great in still water for fans to show up. You just gotta be competent at football. And six wins is competent at football. My personal opinion. ⁓ let's go to the West Coast and let's go to the city of Los Angeles and let's go to USC. They're over-under is eight and a half. They brought Lincoln Riley in to make college football playoffs. They have not sniffed that. They made a few Pac-12 title games. Now they're in the Big Ten. They haven't even sniffed a Big Ten title game. They've been pushed around. Buy bigger big ten schools. Is the fan base happy going nine and three? Roberto Con Queso: No. No, it for the market that USC owns in the essential Los Angeles area, the money essentially is limitless in theory. You're playing at the Rose Bowl. You literally have everything going for you. Everything that a kid would want is at USC, minus the giant taxes. But they don't know about that. If you can't you gotta be able to get nine, ten, eleven wins consistently. Like nine should be your bottom number, and that should make everyone mad when you get nine wins. Because two. You're paying so much into these programs. Like these fans they lived through the Reggie Bush era where it was just everyone that stepped on the field against them, the you knew you were beating them by 35. To now you don't even know if you're going to beat UCLA now. Micaiah: Which is pretty sad. This year's schedule it's gonna hover right there around nine and three. To your point, if they're hitting nine and three, my guess is they've lost to the big three because they play them all this year. That is Oregon, that's Ohio State, and that is Indiana. It's a good month of September, but they close with Oregon. So they could be four and ⁓ heading into the Oregon game. And then they get Washington, Penn State, Wisconsin, and then it's Ohio State, Indiana. back to back weeks except they have a bye week in between there. So my guess, I'm with you. I think if they go nine and three, you beat up on okay, now we're in that Penn State territory of yon of yonder year where you beat up on the old garb and the weaker quote unquote garb, but you can't beat the top competition. Roberto Con Queso: Right, we're gonna go back to the SEC. You know, because you know, it just means more, you know. And I know I'm actually this is gonna be a layup for you. Okay, because I don't know the last time that I've seen this, but Alabama eight and a half. I have not seen Alabama under ten in probably Micaiah: Okay. It means more. Yep. Okay. Mm-hmm. ⁓ okay. Roberto Con Queso: Twelve years. So they'd be nine. Micaiah: Twelve would be twel twenty. Yeah, I mean twenty-four I mean probably longer than that, but yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. ⁓ all right, listen, this is an easy you said it was a layup, you are correct. The answer's no. Nine and three, you're not getting bailed out again to back your way into the playoff, right? I guess it would ⁓ depend a little bit on how the nine and three looks. Like if the entire college football landscape is ten and two, nine and three, okay, then yeah, maybe. Like if every single even the number one ranked team has two losses, okay, fine. But nine and three, absolutely not. Caitlin de Boer's seat would immediately start simmering on that stove. You Roberto Con Queso: I it's gotta be simmering right now. Like Micaiah: Okay, fair fair enough. Th there are there are yeah. Yeah, it it it's gonna be a raging boil. You you're right. I mean they Roberto Con Queso: Which which rightfully so though for Alabama because they only know one thing, and that's winning national championships. Yes. Micaiah: Yeah. It's called Tidal Town for a reason. Right. Yeah. So you gotta good luck to Kayla Naboor. Colin Cowherd used to always say, never be the guy to follow a guy. Well, so far that is that is right. All right, Robert, we're kind of going off the beaten path here. New school to the FPS. North Dakota State. Eight and a half win total. Roberto Con Queso: Yes, once again, ladies and gentlemen, he is frozen for being the end of June or is it me actually? One of us is frozen. I think it's me because I'm trying to reconnect. Micaiah: Is their fan base happy with nine? Roberto Con Queso: Maybe. Or I am reconnected. I don't know. There he is. Micaiah: ⁓ we you were there. Hello. Roberto Con Queso: Okay. I couldn't tell if it was you or me. Micaiah: ⁓ did you hear my question? North Dakota State. Okay, great. North Dakota State's eight and a half. So are is their fan base happy with nine? ⁓ wait, you might be gone again. Roberto Con Queso: No. North Dakota State. Nope, MCR. Micaiah: Okay, great. Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ at I would say I would be excited. Cause you you said eight and a half, right? So that'd give ⁓ nine. Yeah. First year in the ⁓ FBS, it's you know, you're facing better competition than what you were before. So if you can turn that into nine wins, I would be okay with that. Micaiah: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ probably anything lower than that is when I would start to be like, Well, this might not have been the right move to make. Micaiah: To to make. Okay. Perfect. ⁓ couldn't agree more. Couldn't agree more. Alright, we'll each do two more. Roberto Con Queso: Hmm. Okay. Let's go. ⁓ that one's pretty easy. Let's go Oklahoma. So seven and a half giving you eight. Micaiah: А мене цей арла ще. ⁓ it's a big disappointment after the after for Brent Venables run, it isn't a disappointment, but I think the fans would be disappointed. College football playoff, that means you're all if you're only winning eight games, your offense has not progressed under John Mateer. It is mainly you're you're winning with defense, and so now you're kind of questioning the offensive staff there at under Brent Venables, and can Brent Venables be an all A well-rounded head coach, or is he just a defensive coordinator that's really good at culting defense? So I'm gonna say no, not at eight. ⁓ okay, let's give you Ohio State at nine and a half. Roberto Con Queso: So if they win ten, I would s I would say the fan base will act like the world is burning at ten and two. But again, depending on who the the losses are, like one of those two losses is to Michigan, yeah, the world's burning, ending. Michigan cheated again. Yeah, they they will they will absolutely hate it. ⁓ but if they lose, like you know, if they get an October Purdue that like an away game. I t I would say it like a ten win Ohio State is still very good. Micaiah: Ha ha Roberto Con Queso: I would, you know, if the roles were reverse in Michigan was the same as Ohio State on the same level tended to, I would still be okay with. Personally. Micaiah: Okay. All right. Yeah. I ⁓ again I think it's what the rest of the college football landscape looks like. Roberto Con Queso: also guess it would depend. So okay, you lose it if you're if your losses are like to Texas and Michigan, just saying. Overall, okay with it. You know, do you you don't like losing to your rival, whatever. But that's only one conference loss. You're still in the Big Ten title. Now, if you lose, say it, they don't play with Penn State, so Michigan and I don't know who else they play, we'll just say Purdue. If they would lose to those two and it kicks them out of the Big Ten championship, then no, I would I'm not happy at ten and two. It kind it just depends on where those two losses would fall. Micaiah: 'Cause Ryan Day still hasn't won a Big Ten championship as the head coach, correct? I think in twenty twenty he did. Roberto Con Queso: No, he definitely won one, didn't he? Micaiah: Maybe twenty nineteen, twenty twenty. He didn't win one in twenty one, two, three, or four, five. Roberto Con Queso: It had to have been twenty twenty 'cause Michigan didn't play Ohio State that year and they only played like a handful of games. Micaiah: I think they played Northwestern and they beat Northwestern. And then in twenty nineteen, who'd they play in twenty nineteen? That was Justin Fields, and they would have played probably like Iowa or something and would have smacked them. That's good question. Roberto Con Queso: One championships by year. twenty twenty. And twenty nineteen. Micaiah: Yes. Okay. So he has won two, but he has he hasn't won since twenty twenty. Right. Roberto Con Queso: So he he got he Yeah. Twenty twenty. Micaiah: So does the ten and two so I guess the question is does the ten and two tum come with a big ten championship? Roberto Con Queso: If it comes with a Big Ten championship, tot totally fine with it. Fan base should be still be excited because 10 and 2, Big Ten Championship, you're still in the playoffs. Ten and two, no Big Ten championship, you're probably looking at like the back end of the playoffs. Which means you're probably traveling to some SEC school, if not Notre Dame. ⁓ so I don't think I would be As excited and I would be more disappointed at that point because again, this would be year six without that Big Ten championship. And you're essentially supposed to run the table again for the sixth year in a row, but you wouldn't. At ten to two. Micaiah: Yeah, yeah. You're not wrong. I think Ohio State schedule is a a little bit more tough this year. ⁓ who's your final team for me? Roberto Con Queso: The final team I am going to go with is ⁓ miss seven and a half giving you eight. Micaiah: ⁓ the answer is yes, but they shouldn't be. I think Old Miss is a dumpster fire kind of waiting to happen. I'm not still sold on Pete Golding. I could be wrong, but with Trinidad Chambliss, with losing basically the entire offensive coaching staff, the defense wasn't phenomenal last year under Pete Golding. It was okay. It stood its ground a couple times. Weeks they still could see sh sanctions or probation or something coming from the scandal, ⁓ from ⁓ t the tampering of the Clemson linebacker. So ⁓ I'm gonna say no, but they should be at eight wins, yes. And then finally for you, I am going to go Two the ACC, Clemson at seven and a half, so make it eight. Roberto Con Queso: No. You should you should be at eight wins, Clemson. You should be irate. Because the tradition is that you are supposed to be the top. In a very weak ACC conference this year, you should just be I don't know about calling for Dabo's job, but I mean his seat's gonna be so hot, especially the just the dumpster. Yeah, I mean it was bad last year. You were pegged to be a top Micaiah: His would definitely start to simmer. Roberto Con Queso: five if not top two team with arguably a top five college football quarterback and you guys barely would show up every week. Micaiah: Yeah, and a couple NFL picks along the D line, right? I I think that's been the biggest drop-off, especially since Brent left, was ⁓ just the the domination you had on defense that just fell off a cliff. ⁓ now, can they get back to recruiting NFL wide receiving talent? That will be, I think, the key for them. ⁓ because Like they don't they didn't have an identity, like they've never been good at just straight running the football. They needed to supplement that with the quarterback run game. And then they had NFL wide receivers on the outside for a better part of a decade. And now they don't. And so now it's you don't have the NFL wide receivers, you're not attracting the NFL quarterback, and now and now soon you're not going to be able to attract the quarterback, which not retracting wide receivers, and it's a vi vicious cycle. So we will have to. See where all that and I hope that everyone had fun listening to that game because or that hypothetical exercise. And let us know if you want us to play that hypothetical exercise with other teams. Comment down below. However, now we are going to play a fun game. And I have to find it. Screen share. We are going to play. Can you see this? Robert. Roberto Con Queso: Hold on, hold on. I'm making it bigger. Okay. Yeah. Now we're good. Micaiah: Okay, for those of you listening to us, I have a tier system list. So it's S tier, which is just like so good. So good. I don't know what S stands for, but it's awesome. And then it goes A, B, C, C, D. Okay. And I have college football mascots down below. And I asked Chat GPT to give me some popular college football mascots. And so it spit out a bunch. And if I left your mascot off Roberto Con Queso: Super. Micaiah: This list. I don't apologize because this is about as good as I can do with Chat GPT. And there are 136 FBS teams. I'm not going to sift through everyone and rank them. Maybe we should. Maybe we should have done that this entire ⁓ fall. So here we go. ⁓ I'm just making one thing short. This is great podcasting. I this thing won't be short. Okay. ⁓ my goodness. This is not working out well. I'm gonna have to cut that. All right, you still see it? Here we go. Jeez. Sorry about that. Technology gets you every time. All right. Let's start with Brutus the Buckeye. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. I so okay, give me the criteria on what 'cause it's not whether I like them or not, it's is it just like how 'cause I think Brutus honestly is probably an S tier mascot by the way he interacts with the fans. Micaiah: Okay. Well I I don't really care. I'm kinda leaving it up to I'm kinda leaving it up to you. Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ okay. I would say S yeah. I would say Brutus is an S. He he's like a very iconic and Micaiah: Okay. Brutus is Okay, that that that's great. Let's go to Vivo. Roberto Con Queso: I'm going to put Bivo at A. Micaiah: Okay. Is it because he is a live animal? Roberto Con Queso: No, it's mainly because A is a big cow and that thing's got a smell. Micaiah: So the so the only reason you're keeping him from an S tier is because he's probably smells Roberto Con Queso: Yes. I would have to imagine because if you are playing in Texas and you are the poor soul that has seats behind that thing and it star and it just is unloading. Like that's gotta be rough. It's just bacon in the heat. I'm sure they've thought about this. Micaiah: ⁓ yeah. I I I'm I'm sure I'm sure ⁓ okay. All right, that that's a ⁓ very valid reason, a very wild valid reason, but it is a valid reason. We are going to go to this thing right here, which is riptide his name is Riptide. He is the two lane mascot, and he's Riptide the Pelican. Where are you putting Riptide the Pelican? Roberto Con Queso: Right. ⁓ he can go in the C tier because Riptide the Pelican and the two lane green wave do not make sense to me. So Micaiah: Okay, all right, all right, fair enough. This is Nitro. He is the University of Southern California or Southern Flor Central Florida, my goodness, mascot. Yes, his name is Nitro, but it's K-I-N- Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ ⁓ that's at least a little bit better. I'm gonna say he that's a B tier. To me. Yeah. Micaiah: Okay, B tier. The organ duck. Okay. I yes, but I also Roberto Con Queso: S tier. That's hard not to. A p A plus to S. He he comes in on a Harley. Micaiah: Yeah, yeah. I he ⁓ yeah. I I do feel like ⁓ he kinda rides the coattails of everybody else. Okay. Like he he ride like he's not driving the Harley. If he d rode drove in on the Harley himself, S tier. He has someone drive him in. He's a pansy. The Oregon Ducks a pansy. Roberto Con Queso: What's okay, I would give move ⁓ down to A then, because we don't have an A plus. Move ⁓ down to A. Micaiah: Okay, ⁓ moving him down to A. Okay. This is Tulsa's new mascot in twenty twenty three. His name is Gus T. the hit the per the person under yes his name is Gus T. ⁓ he took over for Captain Kane Commander Kane ⁓ th that ran from until like two thousand nine. So he is he is new. Roberto Con Queso: Right. Brother, Commander Caine would have been so much better. Captain Cain, Commander Caine It would it is he supposed to be a tornado? Micaiah: Yeah. Well w whatever it was. Yeah ⁓ yeah, like a cyclone hurricane. His head's like Roberto Con Queso: I mean that's either a C or a D, 'cause it's just not the name's not I understand the pun of the name, but they could have done a lot better and he just looks too comical. So I'm I'm gonna go D's fine. Micaiah: Yeah, sure, right. Okay. Okay. D D D is fine. Western Kentucky, big red. I really thought you would rank him higher. Roberto Con Queso: He just reminds me of like kinda, yeah. Or like, you know, Philly is very notorious with the Fanatic and then ⁓ the Flyers one. Gribb gritty. That's what that reminds me of. And I'm like, they're okay. I think they're overhyped for what they are. Micaiah: Grimace. ⁓ gritty? Okay, fair f fair enough. Osky is the dopiest looking D. All right. He is He is the Cow Golden Bears mascot. We're gonna go from the dopeest to well, he's also kind of dopey, but Cocky. Hold for the hold for the ⁓ jokes. Okay, continue. ⁓ Cocky is the South Carolina mascot. Roberto Con Queso: D D for Dopey, put ⁓ down there. This is why smart people should not have mascots. Yeah. I wanna put at a ⁓ A or B because I like his entrances with it 'cause he's like in the cage when they first start. Let's put him at B for now. I might switch at the end. Micaiah: Yeah. Okay. Alright. South Carolina's just a B school all around, I kinda feel. Like like they do that little, you know, that two thousand thing with the towels. ⁓ Roberto Con Queso: They they have like an S tier entrance with a B tier program. Micaiah: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It it's it's it's wild and and then they do EDM, you know, they they do the towel EDM and it's like ⁓ yeah. Anyway, ⁓ Mike the Tiger, which is the live mascot and the costume character. I I actually did some research about some of these. So Mike the Tiger costume both live and costume character. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. I'm gonna go A. Mainly because he's both, but I prefer the live action tiger. Micaiah: Okay. Fair fair enough. Roberto Con Queso: Because there is a fifty percent chance that that thing breaks free and kills someone on sta ⁓ out there. So watch watch how they handle that scenario. Micaiah: Okay. All right. Yeah. Th that's probably why they don't allow him at the games anymore. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: More than likely 'cause what they do, someone's not standing there with a tranquilizer gun waiting to like take him down. Micaiah: And they don't go down immediately once you hit them with the tranquil tranquilizer. Another mascot, and this is a mascot duo. They come together and it's Boomer Sooner. They boomer sooner are live-action horses and costume characters. One fun fact here. So Boomer Sooner, the horses themselves that pull the Sooner Schooner, they don't really, one's not Boomer, one's not Sooner. They just kind of are the paired mascot. Roberto Con Queso: No. Micaiah: The costume characters have two different eye colors, blue and brown. Boomer has the blue eyes, sooner has the brown eyes for the costume characters. So where are you putting Boomer? Sooner. Roberto Con Queso: Male once female. ⁓ I'm gonna put them at C because that is just way too much to try and You're not gonna look at the mascot's eyes. Micaiah: I I was just giving a fun fact, you don't gotta look at the mascot eyes. Roberto Con Queso: I know, but but like Tina like you know there's a little kid going like, ⁓ which one's boomer, which one's sooner and then some and then the the dad's like, You got me, kid. Red jerseys boomer. Just watch the game. Micaiah: Yeah, you are correct. I'm just Yeah. Yeah. Just watch the game. I don't know if one of them always wears white and one of them always wears that crimson. I I have no idea. Roberto Con Queso: That would be miserable if they would switch after every game. I would be like, Yep, D tier. Micaiah: yeah they they just switched jersey on ⁓ Yeah. Yeah. Yeah that that's a Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: swallow. The Stanford tree is next. Can you still see me by the way? Okay, great. It says I'm recording on a new track, so why I don't know. ⁓ I'm also putting them at a D because they're it their mascots a tree, but they're the Stanford Cardinal. Roberto Con Queso: D D. Yeah, I can see ya. And it's an ugly tree. Micaiah: And it's an ugly tree. Yeah. It looks like the tree from ⁓ Peanuts, the Charlie Brown. ⁓ this is hold on, I'm looking for the name. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: Do I really not have him in here? This is ⁓ the tiger and the cub. I only have the tiger on here. So again, it's Clemson, it's the tiger, and then the cub wears a jersey that ha has half. So tiger has one and the cub has half. Roberto Con Queso: I'm gonna put them at B mainly because of the adding of the cub, ⁓ or A, you whatever. but it's a very poor representation of what a tiger looks like. Micaiah: Well ⁓ no, the B's fine. Okay. ⁓ the Nittany Lion Roberto Con Queso: I mean I feel like you have to put him at S with Brutus. It they're probably the two more iconic overly iconic mascots of college football. Micaiah: I I I w I would agree. I I would agree. The leprechaun of Notre Dame. Roberto Con Queso: I want ⁓ let's put him at A. Micaiah: Okay. That is a live live action mascot. Need I say more. Roberto Con Queso: An actual pr it's Granted, there's a per there there's a person inside of every single one of these mascots. But you can you but you can you can visually see like his face. Yes. Micaiah: Okay, but you know, they're not hiding behind a Yes, yes, you could see all the emotion. Buzz from Georgia Tech. Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ let's go into the B category. Nothing special. He's just a B. He's a yellow jacket. I hate yellow jackets. Micaiah: Yes. Big Al of N ⁓ Alabama. Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ I'm going let let's throw him at B just because he is the only elephant, I think. But it doesn't it doesn't make sense 'cause the Crimson's hide. Micaiah: And again, they're they're the crimson tide. Right, right. ⁓ I'm I'm with you. I think if your mascot has nothing to do with like what you are, your nickname, you automatically get knocked down a a tier. Okay. ⁓ this is big ⁓ nope, there's another name for him. Is it big red? No, big red was the Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Yes. Micaiah: Lesser Kentucky. The Nebraska I have no idea what his name is. No Nebraska mascot, whatever his name is. I'll find it in a minute. Roberto Con Queso: Mmm let's put him at C, just like the program. Micaiah: See just like the program. Well, that's gonna bother me now. I thought I wrote it down, I didn't. ⁓ pistol piece. Roberto Con Queso: That's not I was gonna say big text, but that's not it. Micaiah: Nebraska ⁓ Herbie Husker. Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ that just sounds that sounds like terrible Micaiah: That is his name. Yeah, for sure. So ⁓ C, just like the program again. Pistol Pete. Oklahoma State. Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ let's put pistol Pete at let's go you know what, let's go A, he has a gun. Micaiah: Okay. I I think that I these mascots where it's like where it's like human body and then like the plastic cartoon head, creepiest of all the mascots I will admit. Roberto Con Queso: It's different. Well yeah, because the head the heads are just so big. Like obnoxiously large. Micaiah: Yes. How do they balance in those? That's what I want to know. Perdon't Pete It's Purdue Pete, but perdon Pete from Purdue. Roberto Con Queso: I don't know. I'm gonna let's throw him at C. He's he I feel like is probably a very underrated mascot, but it's because his head is a square. Micaiah: Yeah. And Purdue sucks. Roberto Con Queso: Yes, that also does not help him at all. Micaiah: Sparty from Michigan State Spartans. Okay. Yeah. ⁓ Uga was supposed to be on here. I don't know what happened to him. ⁓ but where would you put Ugga? Let me see if I can't add him. Roberto Con Queso: I'll put Sparty a day. I would probably put Ugga at Micaiah: There he is. Roberto Con Queso: To be honest, let's throw him at- I would say Ugga would probably be A as well. I don't want to put him at S tier because I don't know what version of Uga we're getting. If it's one through, wow, what happened? Micaiah: ⁓ Roberto Con Queso: Well, I can s hey, there we are. Hey, a new a new recording track was created. ⁓ you just don't know what version of Ugga you're getting and he sleeps for ninety five percent of the game. Micaiah: Okay. A new track is recorded dude, I don't know what it's doing. I don't know what it's doing today. Yeah. There are ⁓ two versions. ⁓ Uga is also the costume mascot. ⁓ but ⁓ it like he also goes by another name, ⁓ which is kind of weird and I was kind of figuring that out. I don't know, like, yeah, I understand that you have a live animal, but then don't have another costume mascot on top of that. That's weird to me. Like if if you if you have Bivo and then just have a Biv Bivo costume mascot, which is what they do, right? ⁓ Sebastian the Igus. Roberto Con Queso: I wanna put him at S, but I think he deserves to go at A because again, through the hurricanes, and he's a bird. Micaiah: There's some fun fact about Ibises and hurricanes, isn't there? That's why they Roberto Con Queso: There has to be because unless you like wanna look like Tulane down at the bottom. Micaiah: Unless if you want to look like two laying down at the bottom. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So that is our mascot ranking list. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: Yeah, so Brutus and Nittany Lion are S tier, Bevo, Duck, Mike the Tiger, the Leprechaun, Pistol Pete because he has a gun. Sparty Ugga only because he naps. And Scarlet the Ibis. ⁓ and also Bevo's in A tier, not S because when it gets hot, he smells. And that's our story. Roberto Con Queso: Amen, brother. Micaiah: And that's our story, and we are sticking to it. This has been another wonderful episode of Fourth One Podcast. Thank you everyone for being here. Make sure you wash your hands, you filthy animals. We'll see you next week. Rob, it was great talking to you. ⁓ go find us on all of our socials, Fourth in One Podcast, Fourth of One Pod on TikTok.
