- 0:00Speaker 1: And now move the sticks with Daniel, Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
- 0:07Speaker 2: What's up, everybody? Welcome to move the sticks, DJ, Bucky
- 0:10Speaker 2: and Rhett with you. Rhett. I used to use this
- 0:14Speaker 2: part of the show, the intro you ha in the end,
- 0:17Speaker 2: and now it's like, not only am I not I'm
- 0:20Speaker 2: not doing that, but like I think I'm actively rooting
- 0:24Speaker 2: for them to win the whole day.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Let's go. We got you on board, Fucky.
- 0:28Speaker 2: I think they can. I think they can.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Oh they probably can't, but read be careful. That might
- 0:33Speaker 3: be reverse psychology. It is now, it might be. It
- 0:36Speaker 3: might be if DJ is like all of a sudden,
- 0:38Speaker 3: you know what, Buck.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I see it, I see I see it happening, and see, No,
- 0:43Speaker 2: this is the thing. This is the thing for those
- 0:44Speaker 2: that don't listen to the Potter watch us. You know
- 0:47Speaker 2: what I do. I go straight to Twitter efforts. Hey,
- 0:49Speaker 2: as someone who's born in Fort Wa, Indiana, nice to
- 0:51Speaker 2: see the home team bring one home.
- 0:53Speaker 4: You know.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I technically I am the only one of the
- 0:57Speaker 2: three that's a Hoosier. So that's all I'm saying.
- 0:59Speaker 4: That's fair.
- 1:01Speaker 1: But there's a serious note.
- 1:04Speaker 5: There's there's probably eight to ten NFL players like on
- 1:09Speaker 5: that roster. I'm not saying they're all going to be
- 1:11Speaker 5: top picks, but and maybe some some go undrafted and
- 1:15Speaker 5: play like a couple of guys this year did a
- 1:17Speaker 5: palm returning kick return for the Vikings Miles Price. But
- 1:21Speaker 5: like there's there's four or five guys on the defense,
- 1:24Speaker 5: there's a pair of receivers, obviously Mendoza kind of left tackle.
- 1:28Speaker 5: I mean, like there's actual legitimate dudes on this roster,
- 1:32Speaker 5: which is a big reason why they're up there.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Well, I also think real quick and we'll get off Indiana.
- 1:37Speaker 2: But Buck to me, like one of those signs of
- 1:40Speaker 2: a great culture too is that when you play inferior teams,
- 1:44Speaker 2: you absolutely lay the hammer down. And they are not
- 1:47Speaker 2: They are not messing around with bad teams, man, They're
- 1:49Speaker 2: they're laying waste to them very quickly.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Well, look, man, I think there is something to be
- 1:55Speaker 3: in the net with a sledgehammer, and you you can
- 1:57Speaker 3: get your team focused on a let's not mess around,
- 2:00Speaker 3: let's take care of the teams that we're supposed to be.
- 2:02Speaker 4: To me, that's next level.
- 2:04Speaker 3: I would say this going from good to great, But
- 2:07Speaker 3: I would say going from great to elite is what
- 2:10Speaker 3: Indianas is sprying to do.
- 2:11Speaker 4: And you know, the hardest thing.
- 2:13Speaker 3: And I've heard Signetti a few times talk on podcasts
- 2:17Speaker 3: or whatever it is, someone has to be the bad
- 2:19Speaker 3: guy and someone has.
- 2:20Speaker 4: To wheel the hammer when they're.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Not up to the standard, and he says, I certainly
- 2:25Speaker 3: don't mind doing that.
- 2:26Speaker 4: And it shows up in the way that they play
- 2:28Speaker 4: each and every week.
- 2:29Speaker 5: I think the messaging is elite from Kurt Signetti to
- 2:33Speaker 5: his team and the buy in is one hundred percent.
- 2:38Speaker 5: I mean at this point, like he comes out and says, well,
- 2:40Speaker 5: we're playing a three and oh UCLA team, you know,
- 2:43Speaker 5: like never mind the fact before. Yeah, you know, I
- 2:46Speaker 5: think that's a that's a big thing in today's go
- 2:49Speaker 5: we talked about Dan Lanning is a great communicator and
- 2:51Speaker 5: a guy who has the pulse of his team like
- 2:53Speaker 5: Signetti does it just in a different way and really
- 2:56Speaker 5: reaches these guys. And look, last thing I'll say on it,
- 2:59Speaker 5: I want sixteen games.
- 3:01Speaker 1: In my five.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Years at Indiana, they won fourteen straight home games and
- 3:06Speaker 5: they've won nine games by thirty or more points than
- 3:09Speaker 5: Signetti Lee here go.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah, talking about a guy that can coach ball speaking
- 3:15Speaker 2: of someone who can coach ball. Andy Reid's got the
- 3:17Speaker 2: Chiefs rolling here boys twenty eight to seven. I went
- 3:21Speaker 2: through and watched the offensive tape this morning because I
- 3:23Speaker 2: was just kind of curious to see if anything stood
- 3:25Speaker 2: out what they're doing. Obviously get the two early picks
- 3:27Speaker 2: from Mahomes, but you know, the thing that stood out
- 3:31Speaker 2: to me is they stress you and stretch you and
- 3:35Speaker 2: run and pass, and there's so much run action where
- 3:39Speaker 2: you've got another potential ball carrier. There's so much run
- 3:43Speaker 2: action where you can zip the ball out. It's a
- 3:45Speaker 2: lot easier buck than having to block guys. Is when
- 3:48Speaker 2: you can have a little rpo where you've got a
- 3:50Speaker 2: little bubble and you've got three defenders for three receivers
- 3:53Speaker 2: out there, and they're so far removed that now it's
- 3:56Speaker 2: like we're just playing with everybody else inside the box here.
- 3:58Speaker 2: So we take all those perimeter player out of the mix.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it reminds me of the old Art
- 4:04Speaker 3: Brows system where he did that a ton where you
- 4:06Speaker 3: put guys all the way out in the parking lot,
- 4:08Speaker 3: you have to adjust. If you don't adjust it, keep
- 4:10Speaker 3: flinging it out there until they widen. You out and
- 4:13Speaker 3: then they hand it off. Tennessee does a version of that. Yeah,
- 4:16Speaker 3: I mean it's very, very difficult, and if you're doing
- 4:19Speaker 3: simple math, it is a lot easier to create explosive
- 4:21Speaker 3: plays and two on two, three on three situations than
- 4:24Speaker 3: eleven on eleven. So hands off to them for going
- 4:28Speaker 3: to that. It certainly has balanced out the offense and
- 4:31Speaker 3: has given them an ability to not only balance out
- 4:35Speaker 3: the call sheet but have explosive plays. Why not putting
- 4:39Speaker 3: the team at risk with these high risk passes?
- 4:42Speaker 4: You know?
- 4:43Speaker 5: I think I go back to the social media posts
- 4:46Speaker 5: to from Patrick Mahomes like, boy, when Rashid Rice gets healthy,
- 4:49Speaker 5: we're going to be dangerous. I mean yes, I mean
- 4:53Speaker 5: he and obviously you know he's watching it. He knows
- 4:56Speaker 5: what Rashi can do. And I think just looking at
- 4:58Speaker 5: looking at the passing nine when he's targeting Rashie Rice
- 5:01Speaker 5: to like, figure that you got one, two, three, four, five, five,
- 5:06Speaker 5: six of his targets of his completion and nine targets
- 5:10Speaker 5: nine completions in this game, but they're at or behind
- 5:13Speaker 5: the line of scrimmage, and so the run after catch
- 5:16Speaker 5: part of that with Rashi Rice, I feel like it's
- 5:18Speaker 5: something that they've kind of been missing a little bit. Obviously,
- 5:21Speaker 5: Hollywood can get down the field, and Travis is so
- 5:23Speaker 5: good in his you know, working his spots, but like
- 5:25Speaker 5: that piece of the game. To have that available for
- 5:28Speaker 5: you to just get yards. Man, it's it's been pretty
- 5:33Speaker 5: fun to watch.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Here's my here's my one coaching drill thought. I've never
- 5:38Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever put this one out there, Buck,
- 5:40Speaker 2: but I'm watching that tape and I say it. I
- 5:43Speaker 2: see the Chiefs a bunch just doing the Charger games
- 5:45Speaker 2: to see him every year since Mahomes has been there,
- 5:47Speaker 2: you multiple times, and like, if you're going to have
- 5:50Speaker 2: the Jordan rules or the Mahomes rules, like close to
- 5:52Speaker 2: the top of that rule list as you cannot rush
- 5:55Speaker 2: past the quarterback. So here's my here's my week of
- 5:58Speaker 2: practice idea for teams that get ready to play the
- 6:00Speaker 2: Kansas City Chiefs. Do the math and figure out where
- 6:03Speaker 2: his consistent launch point is right, whatever yardage mark or
- 6:06Speaker 2: that is, you know, say that's it. If that's it
- 6:08Speaker 2: eight yards, you know, then we are going to do
- 6:11Speaker 2: our pass rush srials. I'm gonna but we're gonna do
- 6:13Speaker 2: it next to a fence. We're gonna have a fence
- 6:15Speaker 2: at eight yards, a literal fence, and you can work
- 6:19Speaker 2: on your pass rush moves and however you want to win,
- 6:22Speaker 2: but you have to win directly or inside, or you're
- 6:24Speaker 2: gonna have to win snug outside. But we are not
- 6:27Speaker 2: going to rush beyond the quarterback. Every time it happens,
- 6:30Speaker 2: it is death because he's going to take off and run,
- 6:34Speaker 2: or he's going to take off, he's going to climb
- 6:35Speaker 2: up into that crease and he's going to buy time
- 6:37Speaker 2: and he can he's with his arm, he can hit
- 6:39Speaker 2: the whole field and you are in deep trouble. But
- 6:42Speaker 2: there's got to be some creative way where you can
- 6:44Speaker 2: try and drill that and practice that of just you
- 6:46Speaker 2: can't get caught past him.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean, look, I think you have to
- 6:52Speaker 3: be aware. It has to be talked about, it has
- 6:54Speaker 3: to be worked on. You right to think about athletic quarterbacks.
- 6:57Speaker 3: You want to run, rush to the depth of the
- 7:00Speaker 3: and not beyond it because they're looking to get out
- 7:02Speaker 3: the side door.
- 7:03Speaker 4: And with him, you want to make him throw from
- 7:05Speaker 4: the well. And it's easier to say that, harder to
- 7:08Speaker 4: execute it. But that's the trick.
- 7:10Speaker 3: So many of their explosive plays where there's him on, runs,
- 7:14Speaker 3: him on, scrambled tosses happen when he leaves the structure
- 7:17Speaker 3: of the pocket. I want to keep him in the
- 7:18Speaker 3: pocket and make him throw within a structured opfense, so
- 7:23Speaker 3: now I can know where the ball is going. As
- 7:24Speaker 3: opposed to this free fraud that we haven't to defend,
- 7:27Speaker 3: I'd rather, literally, do you know, break the cardinal rule
- 7:31Speaker 3: of rushing inside off the edge and letting him bounce outside,
- 7:35Speaker 3: then rushing so wide and high that he can climb up,
- 7:38Speaker 3: because when he climbs up.
- 7:39Speaker 2: His shoulders are square and there's no blade of grass.
- 7:42Speaker 2: He can't hit. If you're forcing him his shoulders to
- 7:44Speaker 2: the sideline and you gave up contain, at least you
- 7:47Speaker 2: cut half the field away. You don't cut any of
- 7:49Speaker 2: the field the way when you get caught high and
- 7:51Speaker 2: up the field. So anyways, he's they're playing at a
- 7:54Speaker 2: high level. Even with the turnovers they're you know, they've
- 7:57Speaker 2: got a lot of different ways to beat you. The
- 7:58Speaker 2: other thing is kind of fun is four by one
- 8:00Speaker 2: stuff they're doing with the back, where they'll send the
- 8:02Speaker 2: back over there and they've got legit four by one,
- 8:05Speaker 2: which I feel like we're seeing a little bit more
- 8:06Speaker 2: of that Buck than we've seen as of late. It's
- 8:09Speaker 2: kind of that's a very cology thing to look at. No, yeah, yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 2: I mean quas is very, very difficult to defend.
- 8:16Speaker 3: It's one of those things that it all stress you,
- 8:18Speaker 3: just in terms of just the strong flood passing game
- 8:22Speaker 3: and being able to have enough bodies there while also
- 8:24Speaker 3: protecting the backside. It is a collegiate thing, but we
- 8:28Speaker 3: are seeing the kind of trickle us way up to
- 8:29Speaker 3: the pros.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, Rhett, I'll i'll no longer delay the
- 8:35Speaker 2: inevitable and we can jump into the rookie draft. Oh sure,
- 8:39Speaker 2: I wasn't sure you were coming back. We were worried, man. Yeah,
- 8:41Speaker 2: you have a filled in for me last week. I
- 8:43Speaker 2: think he got Look he got me at four points there.
- 8:45Speaker 2: I'll take it tied up, Rhett. So right now, here's
- 8:48Speaker 2: where we stand. We have RHTT at thirty seven. It's
- 8:51Speaker 2: a strong number. I'm at thirty two bucks at twenty six.
- 8:55Speaker 2: It just takes one week. Buck, we get one good
- 8:56Speaker 2: week and we're right back, and we're right back in
- 8:59Speaker 2: this thing.
- 8:59Speaker 4: I don't know, man, it's just he's he's having his waiting.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I'm just feeling, you know, let me man, let me
- 9:05Speaker 2: handle some business here. First of all, if you want
- 9:07Speaker 2: to watch rookies and watch all these players that I
- 9:09Speaker 2: would encourage you to sign up for NFL Plus Premium
- 9:11Speaker 2: and check out NFL Pro, where you can access over
- 9:14Speaker 2: ninety five unique player and team performance stats and all
- 9:17Speaker 2: importantly the All twenty two film. It's available on desktop
- 9:20Speaker 2: and the mobile web. So when I'm doing it, we
- 9:23Speaker 2: go to the rookie draft this week. Look at that.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Look who has the first pick? Who do we have
- 9:30Speaker 2: for buys? By the way, Gav throw throw it in there. Oh,
- 9:33Speaker 2: here we go Cleveland, Tampa, Bay the Jets and.
- 9:38Speaker 4: Like four Cannon nor Buka.
- 9:44Speaker 5: Judkins, Ts Johnson got me a nice second points beat
- 9:48Speaker 5: out Boka for the for the wide receiver on his
- 9:51Speaker 5: own team.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Unbelievable.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I know, I know.
- 9:54Speaker 3: I'm telling you this dude is over here making phone calls.
- 9:58Speaker 3: He's making phone calls over course the weekend. He's over
- 10:01Speaker 3: here checking in.
- 10:03Speaker 5: I don't know what's going on. Yeah, I mean trading,
- 10:07Speaker 5: that's what we got. Well, you know, I think I
- 10:11Speaker 5: think the I mean, there's just a clear cut winner.
- 10:15Speaker 5: Here for the number one overall pick. Again, You're gonna
- 10:17Speaker 5: go Tyler Warren again. Yeah, I mean there's just why
- 10:20Speaker 5: wouldn't you get a solid.
- 10:21Speaker 2: I'll give you. I'll give your reason why right now,
- 10:24Speaker 2: because I'm gonna go Ronde Gatson with the second pick.
- 10:27Speaker 2: It's been out playing him and who is going up
- 10:30Speaker 2: against let me check my notes the Tennessee Titans this week,
- 10:32Speaker 2: so I'll go with Okay, he's on a three week
- 10:36Speaker 2: heater by the way, Yeah he is tight end tight
- 10:38Speaker 2: end there, buck. You get to double up, Yeah, I know,
- 10:42Speaker 2: I get to double up. It's freaking crummy.
- 10:47Speaker 4: Let's go what raiders are going against? The jack going
- 10:52Speaker 4: against myself and then.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Uh wide receiver and oh I know, I'm just gonna
- 11:01Speaker 3: stand a game Chris Travis Hunter because I know, yeah,
- 11:04Speaker 3: they told me happen. Yeah, yeah, I think I've heard
- 11:07Speaker 3: you say that before. Let me say it worked out
- 11:10Speaker 3: in London.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. I've got a couple of different options here.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Uh man, there's a running back I like, but I'm
- 11:18Speaker 2: hoping that's not gonna take him, so I could maybe
- 11:21Speaker 2: hold off on that come back to him. So you've
- 11:24Speaker 2: got Genty and Hunter.
- 11:30Speaker 4: Man all right.
- 11:32Speaker 2: I yeah, I think I've I've got to do it here.
- 11:36Speaker 2: I think I'm gonna go t mac.
- 11:39Speaker 4: Oh.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Okay, some other good options, but that's where I'm going.
- 11:45Speaker 5: Okay, So you're going to McMillan. You're not sure you're
- 11:48Speaker 5: I mean, look, that was like the only positive part
- 11:51Speaker 5: of Andy Dalton's performance this last week for the Pandemic
- 11:54Speaker 5: Marketing General McMillan.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Everything else was was pretty bad. Okay, boys, Kataboo being
- 12:00Speaker 1: out is just a tough one, you know, is.
- 12:03Speaker 2: It just leave my guy, leave me my guy, don't
- 12:06Speaker 2: take my guy. It's all I'm asking.
- 12:08Speaker 1: It's just tough man.
- 12:10Speaker 4: Okay, So.
- 12:13Speaker 5: Texans right now, take it on the Broncos. That's a
- 12:16Speaker 5: hard one. I'm gonna go r J. Harvey running back
- 12:20Speaker 5: for the Broncos. He's coming, He's been coming on, baby, Yeah,
- 12:25Speaker 5: give me r J. And then I'm gonna go for
- 12:28Speaker 5: my wide receiver man out for the t is gone.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Travis Hunter is gone. A good question here, guys.
- 12:44Speaker 2: This sucks really Harvey. I was gonna take him with
- 12:47Speaker 2: my last pick, but I thought I could sneak him
- 12:49Speaker 2: past the goalie get him with the next round.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I can't do it.
- 12:54Speaker 5: This is this is really a bare bones group right now,
- 12:56Speaker 5: guys with his receivers, there's nothing.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Uh give me shoot, I gotta double up here in
- 13:09Speaker 1: this game. Oh you know what, God give me? Jalen
- 13:15Speaker 1: Knowle Texans I have.
- 13:17Speaker 2: I started in my fantasy league last week.
- 13:20Speaker 5: Okay, I mean no Patser Tan there for the Broncos
- 13:24Speaker 5: something to think about.
- 13:25Speaker 1: It's really good defense, though.
- 13:27Speaker 5: I obviously it's going to tie into what we got
- 13:29Speaker 5: coming up here to finish out this episode. But it's
- 13:32Speaker 5: hard to like, you go Higgins or you go Nole,
- 13:34Speaker 5: But like I think Nole's getting more targets.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I like, no, I I had my that was
- 13:40Speaker 2: the choice that I had last week. I was just
- 13:42Speaker 2: scram on. I looked up in my Got Deal rookies
- 13:46Speaker 2: on my fantasy team, and I'm like, no, wonder, my
- 13:48Speaker 2: team's terrible. All right, let's uh, let's go with my
- 13:53Speaker 2: uh my final pick here. I I don't love what
- 13:57Speaker 2: he's done recently. These last couple of games, my man
- 14:00Speaker 2: Bill has nine carries twenty five yards, thirteen carries for
- 14:04Speaker 2: thirty three yards. It's been a minute since I saw
- 14:07Speaker 2: him live in person. Go for a buck eleven on
- 14:10Speaker 2: October fifth. But I've got no other option, so going
- 14:14Speaker 2: big beat, Okay, going Bill?
- 14:17Speaker 3: All right, Well, I Saw just gonna show up a
- 14:18Speaker 3: little bit in the game, and I really have no choice,
- 14:21Speaker 3: So let's go Coastin Lovelin.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Colston Loveland, Ghost A game plan Ghost Colston Loveland.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Yeah, he showed up in the game. At least sw
- 14:34Speaker 4: him running around on the field.
- 14:35Speaker 2: He was there. I did prove life from lying he was.
- 14:39Speaker 4: He was on the field.
- 14:41Speaker 2: So we'll see if we can close some ground on him.
- 14:44Speaker 2: All right, we h We're gonna take a break. We
- 14:46Speaker 2: come back. We've got a little thing we like to
- 14:48Speaker 2: do each and every week where we highlight a coordinator.
- 14:50Speaker 2: This week it's going to be the defensive coordinator of
- 14:53Speaker 2: the Broncos, Vance Joseph. We'll get to him as well
- 14:55Speaker 2: as one other thought. On a playoff team, a team
- 14:59Speaker 2: at least it looks like they're head to the playoff.
- 15:00Speaker 2: I want to bounce something off you guys right after this.
- 15:06Speaker 2: All right, So I was talking to my buddies Brock
- 15:10Speaker 2: and Saw up in Seattle, and I love doing their
- 15:13Speaker 2: show because a lot of times it gives me content
- 15:15Speaker 2: because we're talking about different things with the Seahawks, and
- 15:17Speaker 2: they talk with coach McDonald every week, and I'm fascinated
- 15:20Speaker 2: by him and what I've heard about him from a
- 15:22Speaker 2: leadership standpoint in the job he's done up there. So
- 15:26Speaker 2: he had this term. I had never heard of this.
- 15:30Speaker 2: They have a mob mentality. Have you guys aware of
- 15:34Speaker 2: this buck at all?
- 15:35Speaker 4: Okay?
- 15:36Speaker 2: I it is mob mob mission mission over bs. Oh,
- 15:44Speaker 2: So that's their little slogan up there, like, so, hey,
- 15:47Speaker 2: we just focus on what we need to focus on
- 15:49Speaker 2: and none of the other nonsense. And it's kind of
- 15:51Speaker 2: to me it implies a little unselfishness, a little bit
- 15:55Speaker 2: of a Patriots esque kind of do your job situation
- 15:58Speaker 2: as well. So I just thought it's interesting to see
- 16:02Speaker 2: a team kind of take on the personality of their coach.
- 16:05Speaker 2: And you know, I think that's that's kind of a
- 16:08Speaker 2: that's a scrappy It's a scrappy bunch they have up
- 16:10Speaker 2: there in Seattle right now.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Yeah, mentality, I.
- 16:15Speaker 5: Mean there's different, right, there's different ways to to kind
- 16:19Speaker 5: of achieve that messaging. I think you kind of see
- 16:21Speaker 5: it a little bit. But I do love that, right,
- 16:23Speaker 5: like you you know, it's catchy, it's memorable. Yeah, it
- 16:26Speaker 5: is memorable for sure. And they're playing some good ball
- 16:29Speaker 5: up there now too.
- 16:31Speaker 1: That's uh, it's like.
- 16:33Speaker 2: A no distraction that. Yeah, it's kind of like a
- 16:36Speaker 2: no distract, like what are we doing? This isn't Everything's
- 16:38Speaker 2: about the mission and what we're trying to accomplish here,
- 16:40Speaker 2: none of this other stuff. And you know what it means, Bucke.
- 16:42Speaker 2: It means that even though you pay Cooper Cup a
- 16:44Speaker 2: bunch of money and he comes up there and he's
- 16:47Speaker 2: not catching a lot of footballs, but he's blocking his
- 16:49Speaker 2: tail off like that. Yeah, that's that's mob mob mentality there, and.
- 16:53Speaker 5: A Sunday night er this week against the Commanders, maybe
- 16:57Speaker 5: getting Jaden Daniels back, So.
- 16:58Speaker 2: That'll I think Bill I need Bill needs.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Be the mob mentality.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Then I get, I don't know, Buck, have you give
- 17:12Speaker 2: me your coaches? Have you what's what's a Bucky Brooks
- 17:15Speaker 2: coaches that you've used with your Tys School team?
- 17:18Speaker 3: Well, actually something that we learned from Chris Peterson on
- 17:20Speaker 3: the thing. Okay, geez kin kind of guys. Yeah, so
- 17:24Speaker 3: we talked about we talked about that a lot. Our
- 17:26Speaker 3: kind of guys are tough, hardworking and competitive.
- 17:30Speaker 2: So yeah, what's what's Signetti's Surely he's got.
- 17:34Speaker 5: Stasysal relentless, you know, it's like that's his that's his mantra.
- 17:38Speaker 5: But then it's like he is on the hunt for
- 17:40Speaker 5: complacency at all times, right, that is that has like
- 17:44Speaker 5: been his biggest thing this year, and he is hunting
- 17:47Speaker 5: it out and seeking it out. And that's why when
- 17:50Speaker 5: you see him on the sideline in the second half,
- 17:52Speaker 5: he is on edge, right, like he is on tilt.
- 17:55Speaker 5: Like the most on edge I've ever seen is the
- 17:57Speaker 5: second half of the Indiana State game when they're up
- 17:59Speaker 5: sixty to off, you know, like he is constantly like
- 18:03Speaker 5: searching for someone to rip as an example of you
- 18:07Speaker 5: taking your foot off the gas. And I I kind
- 18:09Speaker 5: of I kind of appreciate that, Like we've gotten some
- 18:11Speaker 5: some good one our crews had a chance to be
- 18:13Speaker 5: around some some fun head coaches with those kinds of things,
- 18:16Speaker 5: you know, like Greg Sheanno. We had this past week
- 18:19Speaker 5: with Rutgers four game losing streak. You know, all he
- 18:21Speaker 5: talks about is.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Chop right, keep chop chopping, keep shopping.
- 18:25Speaker 1: You know, uh, you know PJ. Fleck obviously has you know,
- 18:29Speaker 1: rolled the boat they talk about bc D a.
- 18:31Speaker 5: Lot blame complain to fleck uh and and how that
- 18:37Speaker 5: can become a mentality when things aren't going your way,
- 18:40Speaker 5: you're blaming somebody, you're complaining about some you know. It's like,
- 18:43Speaker 5: get away from the BCD mindset, right and focus in,
- 18:46Speaker 5: you know, on the things that are going to allow
- 18:47Speaker 5: you to break this this streak. I think that's a
- 18:50Speaker 5: that's a pretty important one too, and it's an easy
- 18:51Speaker 5: one for anybody in any walk of life to get
- 18:53Speaker 5: caught up in when things aren't going your way.
- 18:55Speaker 2: No, it is good, I mean to me, I think
- 18:57Speaker 2: that's it. That's when you have a good slogan or
- 18:59Speaker 2: a good mission statement is he can remove it from
- 19:02Speaker 2: the football world and it applies correct in regular life.
- 19:05Speaker 2: So that is interesting. I like that one. All right, guys,
- 19:08Speaker 2: it is time for Hot or Not, brought to you
- 19:09Speaker 2: by with Sabi Hot Cloud Storage. We do this each
- 19:12Speaker 2: and every week our Hot Coordinator of the Week, and
- 19:15Speaker 2: it's what he's done all year long. Vance Joseph Big
- 19:18Speaker 2: win over the Cowboys for the Broncos forty four to
- 19:21Speaker 2: twenty four, held the Dak Prescott to a season low
- 19:24Speaker 2: fifty one point five passer rating. You look at where
- 19:28Speaker 2: they are right now as a defense in twenty twenty five,
- 19:32Speaker 2: number five scoring defense, number five, total defense, number one
- 19:35Speaker 2: in sacks, number one in pressure rate, number one in
- 19:37Speaker 2: defensive success rate. Pretty incredible. If you look at his background,
- 19:41Speaker 2: this is the most incredible part, and I think this
- 19:43Speaker 2: is under discussed. Think about humility, and we talk about
- 19:47Speaker 2: that a lot. Oh we gotta be hungry, humble and smart.
- 19:49Speaker 2: You know, that's kind of like the one of those catchphrases.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Vance Joseph was the defensive coordinator prior in Arizona, but
- 19:57Speaker 2: before that, in seventeen and eighteen, a very brief stint
- 20:00Speaker 2: as the Denver Broncos head coach. Think about the humility
- 20:03Speaker 2: it takes to come back into the same organization and
- 20:05Speaker 2: in the same building where you were once the head coach,
- 20:08Speaker 2: come back as a defensive coordinator with Sean Payton there
- 20:11Speaker 2: as the head coach, and I don't think you've heard
- 20:13Speaker 2: anybody ever even talk about it. He just went in there,
- 20:16Speaker 2: did his job, and Buck, he's doing his job at
- 20:18Speaker 2: a very very high level.
- 20:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:20Speaker 3: I mean, in fact, he's doing it at a level
- 20:22Speaker 3: that he might have an opportunity to be a head
- 20:24Speaker 3: coach again just based on success of their team, particularly
- 20:27Speaker 3: back to back years. And I think what's really important is,
- 20:29Speaker 3: at one point this team gave up seventy points on defense,
- 20:34Speaker 3: Sean Payton stuck with him. Vans Joseph didn't change his
- 20:38Speaker 3: approach when it came to the players that got better
- 20:40Speaker 3: and better and better. And you think about since that point,
- 20:43Speaker 3: how dominant this defense has been. When you think about
- 20:46Speaker 3: the Defensive Player of the Year candidate and some of
- 20:48Speaker 3: the other players who have flourished within this system. Yeah,
- 20:52Speaker 3: he's going to have a pretty good resume to build
- 20:54Speaker 3: when it comes time to have that conversation on which
- 20:57Speaker 3: coaches should be hot candidates to get a hit coaching gig.
- 21:02Speaker 5: You know, one of those guys that you're talking about,
- 21:05Speaker 5: Zach Allen, I would love to get at one point,
- 21:08Speaker 5: I'd love to get a report from you on DJ
- 21:10Speaker 5: on Zach Allen, third round pick in the in the
- 21:12Speaker 5: nineteen year Cardinals nineteen drafts in college, but yes.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Indeed Boston College.
- 21:19Speaker 5: You know kind of a you know, not your typical
- 21:22Speaker 5: interior D lineman in the league, like a little bit
- 21:24Speaker 5: lighter and I think he subbed three hundred pounds like
- 21:27Speaker 5: two eighty five, and you know he's I mean, shoot it,
- 21:31Speaker 5: it was a pro bowler last year, right, yeah, it
- 21:34Speaker 5: was a very good player.
- 21:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:35Speaker 5: I mean he ended up with what was it eight
- 21:37Speaker 5: and a half sacks last year in his second year
- 21:41Speaker 5: with the Broncos.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Right, so you know I got it right here by
- 21:46Speaker 2: the way, went all.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Right, let's let's hear it.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Yeah, let's hear it.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:48Speaker 2: So coming out of Boston College, he was six oh
- 21:50Speaker 2: four to one eighty one, so just over six for four,
- 21:53Speaker 2: two eighty one pounds. He ran five flat and indie
- 21:57Speaker 2: d N slash three tech. He can DAC and tackle.
- 22:00Speaker 2: He's a rigid, powerful player, plays with tremendous effort. Didn't
- 22:05Speaker 2: think he dominated the Senior Bowl just okay there. I
- 22:08Speaker 2: thought just needed more of a pass rush plan. But
- 22:10Speaker 2: you've got the body, you've got the effort and the motor,
- 22:13Speaker 2: and clearly he's found everything else. He was about right
- 22:17Speaker 2: around where I had him. He was my seventy second player.
- 22:20Speaker 2: He was the sixty fifth pick. So he's you know,
- 22:24Speaker 2: you can even make a case that some and I
- 22:26Speaker 2: give obviously give the organization, the coaches credit, but somewhat
- 22:29Speaker 2: of a self made guy too. I mean he's just
- 22:31Speaker 2: he's taken the you know, his initial skill set and
- 22:34Speaker 2: he's broadened it and expanded it when in the NFL well, and.
- 22:37Speaker 5: It goes back to also because he was there in
- 22:39Speaker 5: Arizona when Vance was there right as the DC, and
- 22:42Speaker 5: then they're able to bring him over the familiarity of
- 22:45Speaker 5: system and understanding like this guy's going to this guy
- 22:48Speaker 5: understands what I do well, and he's going to put
- 22:50Speaker 5: me in a position to do those things. So, yeah,
- 22:53Speaker 5: he was the advance was that they drafted him right
- 22:56Speaker 5: when Vance had just just gotten there in twenty nineteen,
- 22:59Speaker 5: so really kind of saw from the ground up and
- 23:01Speaker 5: then obviously allowed the Broncos to go make that again.
- 23:04Speaker 5: Just kind of coming back to that. Man, it's they've
- 23:07Speaker 5: identified players in a really really positive way. And Nick Benito,
- 23:10Speaker 5: you know, was what second round or third round. We've
- 23:14Speaker 5: talked about him a bunch on the show. Their second
- 23:17Speaker 5: level linebackers. They've hit more on the guys, you know,
- 23:20Speaker 5: like was Drew Sanders was like the high draft pick,
- 23:24Speaker 5: and now it's and Singleton that are out there, you know,
- 23:27Speaker 5: dominating not to say that they're you know, they're not
- 23:30Speaker 5: great players. But I just think that they continue to
- 23:32Speaker 5: find ways just to get the most out of their roster.
- 23:35Speaker 5: Oh Riley Moss over here, you've got the lowest completion
- 23:38Speaker 5: percentage against.
- 23:39Speaker 2: You know, it's targeted a heck of a lot. I
- 23:41Speaker 2: know Jday Barn comes up with a big interception this
- 23:45Speaker 2: last week, So that's how that's how talented they are,
- 23:49Speaker 2: though that he's had a tough time finding snapped. Yeah,
- 23:51Speaker 2: in that secondary as a first round pick, Bluck, I
- 23:54Speaker 2: want to hit you on this when it comes to
- 23:56Speaker 2: what Vance has done. You think about a lot of times,
- 24:00Speaker 2: you know, obviously the skill set of the guys, but
- 24:03Speaker 2: then marrying it up with the scheme and the way
- 24:05Speaker 2: I think of them and why they're so successful is
- 24:08Speaker 2: they have I would almost use it like if I
- 24:11Speaker 2: was gonna use a phrase, I would say they have
- 24:13Speaker 2: its darts in doubt, Like they have guys off the
- 24:16Speaker 2: edge with the best get off times in the NFL,
- 24:18Speaker 2: with their two edge rushers. The elite, elite, elite just
- 24:21Speaker 2: darts off the edge. And what they do is that
- 24:24Speaker 2: they give you they mug up and they put guys
- 24:26Speaker 2: up on the line of scrimmage, and so they create
- 24:29Speaker 2: that little sliver of doubt, and if you have a
- 24:32Speaker 2: little doubt about who's coming and who's not coming, and
- 24:35Speaker 2: you've got those blazers coming off the edge, you are
- 24:38Speaker 2: not blocking them and it is over quickly. Yeah.
- 24:42Speaker 3: No, it's funny, and you can do that one when
- 24:45Speaker 3: you have really smart defenders. Two, when you got enough
- 24:48Speaker 3: versatility in the within the defensive front and the back
- 24:51Speaker 3: end to be able to kind of we used to
- 24:54Speaker 3: talk about position lists football having a bunch of different
- 24:57Speaker 3: like athletes in terms of similar size, similar sk that
- 25:00Speaker 3: can do a bunch of different things.
- 25:02Speaker 4: They lean into it. And you also have to be
- 25:04Speaker 4: fearless as a play caller to know that you're guys
- 25:05Speaker 4: who are going to be able to execute.
- 25:07Speaker 3: These exotic disguises, the exotic pre snap looks and get
- 25:11Speaker 3: to post snap coverage and execute it.
- 25:14Speaker 4: And they've been able to do it.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Certainly helps when you have a guy like a Pastor
- 25:19Speaker 3: ten and some of these other guys that they have,
- 25:21Speaker 3: but you talked about Riley Moss has been integrated and
- 25:25Speaker 3: incorporated into the mix. You have Tod Baron and some
- 25:27Speaker 3: of these other young players that are playing. I think,
- 25:29Speaker 3: to me, I'm just impressed with the amount of young
- 25:32Speaker 3: players that are on this defense that are able to
- 25:35Speaker 3: play well because to me, it takes a coach to
- 25:37Speaker 3: be able to take some of the complex and make
- 25:40Speaker 3: it simple enough for the young guys to be able
- 25:41Speaker 3: to flourish.
- 25:43Speaker 2: No doubt this is to me. And by the way,
- 25:45Speaker 2: let's wrap it up here on BANS real quick. That
- 25:47Speaker 2: was this week's Hot or Not segment, brought to you
- 25:49Speaker 2: by with Sabi Hot Cloud Storage, store more and do
- 25:51Speaker 2: more with your data. Try them for free at Withsabi
- 25:54Speaker 2: dot com. This division has become the class of the
- 25:57Speaker 2: NFL right now. When you look at it, it's impressive
- 26:00Speaker 2: and I was the Chargers actually put out a video
- 26:03Speaker 2: the other day kind of highlighting some of the calls
- 26:06Speaker 2: of that money was making in the last in the
- 26:09Speaker 2: last game that they had. But I'm going back and
- 26:12Speaker 2: looking through this and just their last two drafts. Let's
- 26:16Speaker 2: look at twenty four Joe alt Premier left tackle on
- 26:18Speaker 2: the show that when he came back, Lad mcconkey's a
- 26:20Speaker 2: legit number one type wide receiver. A boy being here
- 26:24Speaker 2: had a couple of sacks of the day. He's been
- 26:26Speaker 2: a solid player. Their two starting corners, Tar Heep still
- 26:28Speaker 2: and Cam Hart, both in the fifth round. Their sixth
- 26:31Speaker 2: round pick, Kamani Vidal has two hundred yard games in
- 26:33Speaker 2: the last month filling in. Then you go to this
- 26:36Speaker 2: year as Amarion Hampton was playing really well till he
- 26:38Speaker 2: got hurt. Trey Harris is getting a bigger role every week.
- 26:41Speaker 2: He had a touchdown last week. Jamari Calbell is playing
- 26:43Speaker 2: major snaps on the defensive line, and then Aronde gatz
- 26:47Speaker 2: And turned into one of the best young tight ends
- 26:49Speaker 2: in football. And RJ. Mickens, their sixth round pick at safety,
- 26:52Speaker 2: had a pick last week as well. Dad that has
- 26:56Speaker 2: a lot of contributions from year one and year two players.
- 26:59Speaker 2: And I also think that that is another reason why
- 27:02Speaker 2: I think it's a nice thing when coaches, head coaches
- 27:05Speaker 2: have some college experience as well, because that's a developmental
- 27:09Speaker 2: level of football. Buck and I think you're seeing not
- 27:11Speaker 2: only Jim Harbaugh the coach, the head coach, Hey, how
- 27:15Speaker 2: do you use your timeouts? How do you manage a
- 27:16Speaker 2: game with the teacher, the guy who's you know, approaching
- 27:20Speaker 2: like a high school coach, and how they're developing these players,
- 27:23Speaker 2: these young guys.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Yeah, No, it's really interesting when you do that because
- 27:26Speaker 3: He also has a handful of college coaches on that
- 27:31Speaker 3: staff and predicting on the defense side of the ball
- 27:33Speaker 3: that are used to developing those guys and helping them
- 27:35Speaker 3: continue to grow into their skills. Look, you would know
- 27:40Speaker 3: in the building how they're finding a way to develop
- 27:43Speaker 3: those guys, because there is something to the fact that
- 27:46Speaker 3: a lot of these late round picks are playing really,
- 27:49Speaker 3: really well and I would say out playing their draft status.
- 27:53Speaker 4: To me, that's not a coincidence.
- 27:55Speaker 3: When I look at the Charges have success doing that,
- 27:57Speaker 3: when I look at the Rams having success with their
- 27:59Speaker 3: late round picks, to me, there is something that they're
- 28:01Speaker 3: doing on the day to day to allow those guys
- 28:04Speaker 3: to outperform what the expectations were when they walked into
- 28:08Speaker 3: the building.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Well, and it's it's understanding what the expectation is, right,
- 28:12Speaker 1: you know.
- 28:13Speaker 5: And that's alignment right from what you're going to ask
- 28:15Speaker 5: this guy to do to you know, where our evaluation
- 28:18Speaker 5: of this guy is right from front office to coaching
- 28:20Speaker 5: staff into scheme and and then yeah, you guys still
- 28:23Speaker 5: got to be great teachers in developers at this even
- 28:27Speaker 5: at this level, right with some of those young players.
- 28:29Speaker 5: So I think that's a great point you make about it,
- 28:32Speaker 5: You know, head coaches with a little bit of college
- 28:33Speaker 5: experience certainly pretty fresh still for Jim Harbaugh. I mean
- 28:36Speaker 5: you look at the way that that that Michigan team
- 28:39Speaker 5: was built that won the championship. That was not like
- 28:41Speaker 5: a heavy transfer portal team, right, those were grown up players,
- 28:46Speaker 5: you know, shoot, starting with the quarterback. So I think
- 28:48Speaker 5: that's a that's actually a really intriguing point. I wonder,
- 28:51Speaker 5: I wonder if we get some of that kind of
- 28:53Speaker 5: coming back now. I don't know, I don't are there
- 28:55Speaker 5: even enough college coaches to even higher in the league now.
- 28:57Speaker 2: I mean open, they're always opening. Man, Holy moly, we
- 29:00Speaker 2: talked about that. You missed that discussion, right, We'll have
- 29:02Speaker 2: more of that as we go forward. But last thing
- 29:05Speaker 2: I would say there Buck, you mentioned the rams. If
- 29:08Speaker 2: you're going to find the connective tissue between all these
- 29:10Speaker 2: young players for both those organizations, a lot of smart dudes, man,
- 29:15Speaker 2: smart kids. So you know who takes really coach, really
- 29:18Speaker 2: good coaching. Guys who are smart and can digest everything
- 29:20Speaker 2: you're giving them. And that's I mean I talk with
- 29:23Speaker 2: these guys every week. You know, you running these guys.
- 29:25Speaker 2: These guys are really really smart. So I think that's
- 29:28Speaker 2: been kind of a secret weapon for some of these
- 29:31Speaker 2: young players to be out there and play so well.
- 29:33Speaker 3: You know what's funny, DJ like, for the longest time,
- 29:36Speaker 3: when I was with the Carolina Fancy, we always talked
- 29:38Speaker 3: about the guys who had the smartest teams and the
- 29:41Speaker 3: smartest teams, And there's no direct relation to the college
- 29:44Speaker 3: graduates that you have, but that was a big deal
- 29:47Speaker 3: that you wanted like high IQ guys, guys who were
- 29:50Speaker 3: mature in experience and intelligent, because it allows you to
- 29:54Speaker 3: have more volume, and if you have more volume, it
- 29:58Speaker 3: allows you to be able to do more things. So
- 30:00Speaker 3: it's a natural relationship between IQ and volume and performance
- 30:06Speaker 3: when it comes to some of these teams and you're
- 30:08Speaker 3: seeing you talked about smart guys.
- 30:10Speaker 4: Is a way to assess it that allows you to
- 30:12Speaker 4: kind of continue to acquire those kind of players.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's been Uh, it's a it's a great point,
- 30:18Speaker 2: very fascinating. By the way, we have got a awesome
- 30:20Speaker 2: guest coming up on Thursday's show, Andrew Luck. Cannot wait
- 30:25Speaker 2: to visit with him. He's going to join us on Thursday. Uh,
- 30:28Speaker 2: doing a nice job up there at Stanford as they're
- 30:30Speaker 2: trying to uh make that that whole entire program over Rett, can.
- 30:34Speaker 1: I as Yeah, I ask you something on that front.
- 30:36Speaker 1: You know, one of the names that.
- 30:40Speaker 5: As was mentioned forever with top college jobs and NFL
- 30:45Speaker 5: jobs is now kind of like seemingly back on the
- 30:49Speaker 5: market in the college landscape.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Pat Fitzgerald, Oh, yeah.
- 30:54Speaker 2: With Stanford makes a lot We've been Yeah, we've talked
- 30:57Speaker 2: about that. That makes a lot of sense for Stanford.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I mean, you might make sense for more than just Stanford.
- 31:03Speaker 5: DE mean, there's not enough like brand name coaches to
- 31:07Speaker 5: fill these brand name vacancies right now. So I'd be
- 31:12Speaker 5: really curious to see what kind of interest that gets.
- 31:14Speaker 5: But certainly Stanford would make a lot of sense there.
- 31:16Speaker 2: The thing is, when we discussed it briefly the other day,
