- 4:41at your place.
- 4:42We would love to do that.
- 4:44All right, guys, let's get back to the
- 4:46show, the reason we're here.
- 4:48All right, so it's about the long game,
- 4:52right?
- 4:53Welcome, everyone, to the ever-popular Inspirations for
- 4:56Your Life.
- 4:56I am John Seymourley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing
- 5:00specialist, video producer, podcast host, coach, keynote speaker,
- 5:06yes, graduate student, passionate lifelong learner, yes, at
- 5:11Montclair State University.
- 5:12I'm a graduate student, and I'm so grateful
- 5:14now to be a published author, yes.
- 5:17So today, I'm focusing on a mindset shift.
- 5:21What's that about?
- 5:22I'll let you know.
- 5:23It's something that separates temporary success from lasting
- 5:27success.
- 5:28Long-term thinking is the key to success,
- 5:31not the quick wins, okay?
- 5:33Not fast validation, but building something that actually,
- 5:38well, lasts.
- 5:40Yeah, try that for a change, right?
- 5:41Instead of just doing one thing that doesn't
- 5:43last, do something that lasts.
- 5:45The core message is most people optimize for
- 5:48speed, okay?
- 5:50But speed without direction, it leads to instability.
- 5:54It's kind of like doing anything without consistency
- 5:56and structure.
- 5:57It's just going to fall apart.
- 5:59Long-term thinking is different, guys.
- 6:02It prioritizes sustainability over excitement.
- 6:06It focuses on depth over immediacy.
- 6:10And it understands that real results require time,
- 6:14something a lot of people don't get.
- 6:17And then they get mad while things aren't
- 6:19working.
- 6:19So let's get into my 30 insights for
- 6:22today.
- 6:23So number one is short-term wins can
- 6:26undermine long-term success.
- 6:29What feels like progress today can create limitations
- 6:33tomorrow.
- 6:35And number two, long-term thinking requires discipline
- 6:39over urgency.
- 6:40You must choose patience instead of reaction.
- 6:45Number three, thinking beyond today creates stronger outcomes.
- 6:52Future focus improves present decisions.
- 6:56Number four, patience multiplies results over time.
- 7:01What grows slowly often grows stronger, right?
- 7:06Number five, fast money rarely creates lasting stability.
- 7:10Speed often removes structure.
- 7:13And we need structure and we need stability,
- 7:16right?
- 7:16We need structure.
- 7:17We need consistency.
- 7:19We don't need speed.
- 7:20Number six, sustainable systems always outperform quick wins,
- 7:25hands down.
- 7:26Longevity, longevity beats intensity every single time.
- 7:30Number seven, delayed gratification is a form of
- 7:33power.
- 7:35Control over impulses builds what?
- 7:38It builds strength.
- 7:40Yes, it builds strength, ladies and gentlemen.
- 7:42Number eight, stop chasing immediate validation.
- 7:46Don't do it.
- 7:47Short approval cycles weaken long-term focus.
- 7:51And I think that's something that a lot
- 7:52of people, well, they get misinformed about.
- 7:58And they think it's okay to go another
- 8:00way because the quicker way seems like the
- 8:03way to riches.
- 8:04Number nine, legacy is more important than likes.
- 8:08Impact outlasts attention.
- 8:11Number 10, skills matter more than trends.
- 8:15Trends fade, skills compound, just like the interest
- 8:18in our bank accounts.
- 8:19Number 11, thinking in years improves decision quality.
- 8:24Time perspective changes outcomes.
- 8:29Time perspective changes outcomes.
- 8:35Number 12, guys, most people overestimate short-term
- 8:42gain.
- 8:44They misjudge immediate impact.
- 8:48Number 13, most people underestimate long-term growth.
- 8:53Compounding is often invisible early.
- 8:56And that's hard for people.
- 8:59If they don't see something to change, then
- 9:00they're like, well, maybe I shouldn't do it
- 9:02because I'm not seeing anything happen.
- 9:06Number 14, consistency is the foundation of long
- 9:10-term success.
- 9:12Repetition builds momentum, guys.
- 9:15Number 15, time rewards disciplined behavior.
- 9:20Structure compounds quietly.
- 9:23Impulsive decisions, well, they just weaken future outcomes.
- 9:27Reaction reduces stability every single time.
- 9:31Number 17, planning before execution improves the results.
- 9:40Failing to plan is basically planning to fail.
- 9:43So why not plan to succeed?
- 9:46Clarity must come first.
- 9:48Number 18, guys, stability creates stronger progress than
- 9:52chaos.
- 9:54Chaos might seem like it's got its act
- 9:56together, but when you look at chaos, it's
- 9:58like, oh my gosh, that's like a real
- 10:01thing that I think drives people crazy.
- 10:05Like why that's not working the way you
- 10:07want it to?
- 10:08And I think that can be hard for
- 10:10some people to understand.
- 10:15Consistency beats randomness.
- 10:18It does.
- 10:20I know as you're listening or watching this,
- 10:23you're like, well, John, I've tried that, but
- 10:25that didn't work for me.
- 10:26I get that it didn't work for you,
- 10:28but maybe what you have to do is
- 10:31embrace it, okay?
- 10:34Embrace it.
- 10:34If you can embrace something, I find that
- 10:37it will do a lot for you, all
- 10:40right?
- 10:41It's not about the fact of what it's
- 10:45gonna do right now.
- 10:46It's about what's gonna happen down the future.
- 10:48I think those are the biggest things that
- 10:51a lot of us oftentimes miss.
- 10:54What is down the future?
- 10:56What is it there?
- 10:57And I think a lot of people, like
- 10:59they don't necessarily get that.
- 11:02So they figure that they're just gonna do
- 11:03what they need to do.
- 11:05And that's gonna be it, right?
- 11:07That's how they work.
- 11:08But they miss some big golden opportunities, okay?
- 11:13They miss some big golden opportunities.
- 11:14Number 19, compounding appears slow before it becomes
- 11:19explosive.
- 11:20And that's why people lose momentum.
- 11:22You're like, oh, it's not going anywhere.
- 11:25Hurly, patience.
- 11:27Hides later acceleration.
- 11:30If we could just have an ounce or
- 11:32two of patience, we'll see that it was
- 11:34all worthwhile, all right?
- 11:37Number 20, commitment is required for long-term
- 11:41success.
- 11:43Commitment is required for long-term success.
- 11:46Short-term focus breaks systems.
- 11:51So we've gotta make sure we focus all
- 11:54the time, not just when it's comfortable, when
- 11:56it's convenient for us.
- 11:57We've gotta focus day in and day out.
- 12:03But some people are gonna be like, well,
- 12:04you know what?
- 12:04I'm only gonna focus when I have the
- 12:06time to do that.
- 12:08And you're gonna miss lots of opportunities because
- 12:10of that.
- 12:10Number 21, frequent pivoting slows real progress.
- 12:18I know I've seen it with myself.
- 12:20You know, you have things on a calendar
- 12:21and you task and you move from one
- 12:22to another.
- 12:23If you figure out this and you stay
- 12:25on one type of task, whether you were
- 12:28sorting, whether you were posting social media, you
- 12:30don't keep moving back and forth.
- 12:31You finish one type of task, then you
- 12:35move to the next.
- 12:36A good example of this is if you're
- 12:37on the assembly line and maybe you're making
- 12:41something, it could be for a volunteer, a
- 12:44food bank or something.
- 12:45And you're trying to switch around between putting
- 12:47the potatoes on the plate, putting utensils together,
- 12:51putting the corn on the plate, then putting
- 12:53this other side of the plate.
- 12:54If you have somebody doing each step, it's
- 12:57a lot better.
- 12:59Or if you didn't have the people, you
- 13:00could put all the corn, put everything on.
- 13:02So you put one thing on at a
- 13:03time and you move.
- 13:05So you're actually doing one task.
- 13:07But if you had multiple people, that would
- 13:09be a lot easier.
- 13:11So a lot of people vacillate between one
- 13:13to the other because they get impatient.
- 13:17And then they notice they're making mistakes.
- 13:20So they don't go any further.
- 13:22Number 21, frequent pivoting slows real progress.
- 13:26Direction must be maintained at all costs.
- 13:31Even when it seems like it might not
- 13:35be the right thing to do, you just
- 13:37sort of do it.
- 13:39And when you do it, you may have
- 13:42this aha moment or an epiphany.
- 13:44But I got to tell you guys, it
- 13:46doesn't happen right away.
- 13:49Right?
- 13:50You do something for a while, you gain
- 13:52some knowledge, and then guess what?
- 13:54You move forward, right?
- 13:56You move forward.
- 13:58Number 22, time must be a given for
- 14:03systems to work.
- 14:05Premature judgment destroys the growth, every little bit
- 14:09that's there.
- 14:11Number 23, depth is more valuable than any
- 14:14amount of speed.
- 14:15Strong foundations take time.
- 14:19They take time.
- 14:20Number 24, long-term focus filters unnecessary distractions.
- 14:25When we stay focused like a laser beam,
- 14:29nothing else is going to get in our
- 14:30way.
- 14:31Clarity removes noise, right?
- 14:34Maybe you start a project and you're like,
- 14:35you know, I'm going to get this thing
- 14:36done or I'm going to study, I'm going
- 14:37to get this done.
- 14:38No matter what it takes, I'm going to
- 14:40make sure any distraction does not get in
- 14:42my way.
- 14:44That's probably a very important thing.
- 14:46Number 25, patience is a strategic advantage.
- 14:53It improves decision timing, day in and day
- 14:57out.
- 14:59Number 26, burnout often comes from short-term
- 15:04thinking.
- 15:06What can I get in the short term?
- 15:08What can I get right now?
- 15:12Causes us to go really high on stuff
- 15:15and we don't know like what we're doing.
- 15:17And suddenly it's like, oh my gosh, what
- 15:18am I going to do?
- 15:19And I think that becomes a real problem
- 15:22for a lot of people because they're like,
- 15:23I'm not where I want to be.
- 15:25So let's frustrate myself a little more and
- 15:27then maybe I'll get where I want to
- 15:28be.
- 15:29Oh, I'm just going to burn out.
- 15:32Pacing, ladies and gentlemen, protects energy, right?
- 15:40It doesn't matter what you're doing.
- 15:42If you know how to manage your energy,
- 15:46you can do a lot of things.
- 15:47You can do less things.
- 15:49But I found that I can get tired
- 15:52not by the amount of things I do,
- 15:54but how I manage my energy.
- 15:59That's not even whether I'm working hard or
- 16:00not.
- 16:01It's just how I'm managing.
- 16:02And am I around people that's allowing me
- 16:05to recoup my energy or am I just
- 16:07becoming a funnel, right?
- 16:09Where it just goes out and there's nothing
- 16:10for me to do.
- 16:11Number 27, guys, sustainable pace produces consistent outcomes.
- 16:18Wow.
- 16:20Balance outperforms intensity every single time.
- 16:26But again, you got people that are upset
- 16:28because things aren't working the way they want
- 16:31and they feel the solution is to complain.
- 16:35Okay.
- 16:41That's important.
- 16:51I think when we can understand the real
- 16:53truth, that's when life starts to open up
- 16:57for us.
- 16:59But when we try to take in too
- 17:01much at one time, we get into the
- 17:06state of overwhelmingness and stress hits us, right?
- 17:15Do you remember the show with Lucy and
- 17:18Ethel and they were on the chocolate line,
- 17:21right?
- 17:21They never worked the chocolate line properly in
- 17:23their life, but they were on the chocolate
- 17:25line and basically they say, you know, take,
- 17:29she said, take, the lady said, you know,
- 17:30take the chocolates.
- 17:31I put them in the box, you know,
- 17:33chocolate, put in a box, chocolate in a
- 17:35box.
- 17:35So they're doing, she said, well, this is,
- 17:37Ethel, this is easy.
- 17:38We can do this.
- 17:39And then all of a sudden they're doing
- 17:41well.
- 17:41She goes like, all right, speed up.
- 17:45Speed up the lines.
- 17:46Oh my gosh.
- 17:47And they're like, moving faster.
- 17:48And she's like putting some of her shirt,
- 17:49and she's like, you saw them.
- 17:54That's overwhelmingness.
- 17:55And when we get overwhelmed, we sometimes want
- 18:00to say I had enough.
- 18:01I don't want to do anymore.
- 18:03And it isn't because you're bad at it.
- 18:05It's because you never learned the skill.
- 18:09You never learned the skill.
- 18:18That's important guys.
- 18:21It's skill.
- 18:25And maybe you don't quite understand why that
- 18:30makes sense in the beginning, but I want
- 18:31to tell you something.
- 18:33It does make sense.
- 18:35The more that you can understand the flow,
- 18:41because the thing with Ethel and Lucy, if
- 18:43they would have gotten used to how to
- 18:45manage things with that speed, and then they
- 18:47sped up, they would be more accustomed to
- 18:51how to perform the task.
- 18:56When you're younger, do you learn how to
- 19:01crawl, walk, or run first?
- 19:03You certainly don't learn how to run first.
- 19:06And you don't learn how to walk first.
- 19:07You learn how to crawl first.
- 19:11So we have to crawl before we can
- 19:12walk.
- 19:13We have to walk before we can run.
- 19:15We can't suddenly go from crawling to running.
- 19:18We can't.
- 19:19The body cannot adjust to that.
- 19:21Whether we're talking about skiing, first thing they
- 19:24teach you is pizza, right?
- 19:27With the skis, you have to ski.
- 19:29You have to put the pizza, the wedge
- 19:30to go slow.
- 19:32And everything has steps.
- 19:36But sometimes people get impatient that there are
- 19:39steps.
- 19:39And they're like, oh my gosh, what am
- 19:40I supposed to do?
- 19:42Nothing.
- 19:44You're supposed to realize that things take time.
- 19:51And when things take time, you start to
- 19:54get a culmination of knowledge.
- 19:57It may not hit you all at once.
- 20:00And that's perfectly okay.
- 20:02But each day, each time you do something,
- 20:05you become a little wiser.
- 20:08You know, you recap a little more knowledge.
- 20:11Your body also learns things in positioning, okay?
- 20:19With proprioception and how our body is.
- 20:22And our body just learns how to work
- 20:24better together.
- 20:26But we can't learn this if we never
- 20:30understood how to put chocolates in a box,
- 20:33right?
- 20:34We have to understand it.
- 20:35We can't walk and we can't run if
- 20:37we never explored crawling when you ride a
- 20:41bike.
- 20:42Do you just get on the bike and
- 20:43ride?
- 20:43No, you start with training wheels.
- 20:45Because we have to build up our confidence
- 20:47and we have to learn how to pedal.
- 20:49And then after we do that, we have
- 20:51to learn balance, right?
- 20:54We know how to pedal.
- 20:56A little bit scary when the training wheels
- 20:57come off.
- 20:58We just have to keep pedal, pedal, pedal,
- 20:59pedal, pedal, pedal.
- 21:00Pedal, pedal, pedal, pedal, pedal, pedal, pedal, pedal,
- 21:01pedal, pedal, pedal.
- 21:03Keep pedaling and the bike stays afloat.
- 21:08It's balanced.
- 21:10Number 28, vision must remain stable over time.
- 21:15Constant change weakens the direction.
- 21:19And I think a lot of people think
- 21:21that if you keep pivoting, you're gonna be
- 21:23more successful.
- 21:25Think of it like this, ladies and gentlemen.
- 21:26If you take your eyes, right?
- 21:28And you were to focus on something far
- 21:30away.
- 21:31And then to focus on something else far
- 21:32away.
- 21:32To keep doing that quickly, it takes time
- 21:34to keep focusing from here to maybe something
- 21:37close, like your finger here.
- 21:38It takes a couple seconds, right?
- 21:40It's not instantaneous, but you can develop that
- 21:43muscle in your eye to do it almost
- 21:48automatically.
- 21:49Number 29, trusting the timeline reduces frustration.
- 21:53Timing is part of success, guys.
- 21:56Let's just be honest about that.
- 21:57Number 30, long-term commitment builds real results.
- 22:03Everything meaningful requires time, okay?
- 22:09Everything meaningful requires time.
- 22:12And I think a lot of people that
- 22:13hear this and be like, oh, John, you
- 22:15know, this doesn't make sense.
- 22:16But when you do, it does.
- 22:18Before we get into our closing tonight, again,
- 22:21I wanna give that shout out to those
- 22:24at the Saucy Cup, the owners, the employees,
- 22:27and everyone at Saucy Cup in Wayne, New
- 22:31Jersey.

- 23:26And I hope you guys will get back
- 23:27to us at the Saucy Cup.
- 23:29Again, they are located, ladies and gentlemen, in
- 23:31Wayne, New Jersey.
- 23:33If you were just tuning in now and
- 23:35you didn't get where they are, they are
- 23:38right in Wayne, New Jersey on Mountain View
- 23:41Boulevard.
- 23:4248 Mountain View Boulevard in Wayne, New Jersey.
- 23:46Of course, 07470.
- 23:50All right.
- 23:52So before we wrap up the show, here
- 23:54is the truth.
- 23:56Are you ready for the truth?
- 23:57Can you handle the truth?
- 23:58If you're only thinking about today, and some
- 24:01people do this, you're limiting tomorrow because success
- 24:06is not built in bursts.
- 24:09It's built in time.
- 24:13And you see, ladies and gentlemen, time rewards
- 24:16those who stay consistent, those who stay patient,
- 24:24those who stay focused, those who stay committed.
- 24:34And these might just seem like words, but
- 24:36if you actually slow down and try to
- 24:40process them, you're like, wait a minute, John,
- 24:42this actually makes some sense what you're saying.
- 24:45Yeah, it does.
- 24:47If you can just stop the movement for
- 24:51a moment and embrace the actual time, the
- 24:59moment that you're in right now.
- 25:00Most people don't stop even a minute, right?
- 25:06They're always on the go.
- 25:08We have so much to be thankful for,
- 25:10and our life can be so much richer
- 25:13when we enjoy each moment.
- 25:19And you could start doing that right now.
- 25:21You could start doing tomorrow.
- 25:23It's a very important thing when we become
- 25:26part of the process.
- 25:31Many people don't want to hear it's going
- 25:33to take time.
- 25:35But what I found is that when you
- 25:37say something's going to take time, you know
- 25:38what happens?
- 25:39You actually wind up taking less.
- 25:43When you acknowledge that it's going to take
- 25:47time, you sometimes will get there a lot
- 25:49faster than you expected to get there.
- 25:54Because you are not just chasing results, guys.
- 25:59Do you know what you're really doing?
- 26:00You are building something, not just anything, something
- 26:06real.
- 26:09And the minute your mind and your body
- 26:12start to realize that, your actions, your emotions,
- 26:19your thoughts, which we always said create our
- 26:24reality, they change.
- 26:28When your energy changes, people around you change.
- 26:31I was at an event the other day,
- 26:35and the people were very nice.
- 26:39But I also could tell they were very,
- 26:42let's say, high-strung.
- 26:47And it was a high-strung way in
- 26:49the sense that they were just trying to
- 26:53get everybody to feel comfortable so they would
- 26:57join this group.
- 27:01When somebody is too overly welcoming to, hey,
- 27:06John, it's so great to see you.
- 27:07How are you, man?
- 27:08Never saw this person before in my life.
- 27:11And suddenly you're doing that.
- 27:13Ladies and gentlemen, I am John C.
- 27:15Morley, serial entrepreneur.
- 27:16It's always a privilege, pleasure and honor to
- 27:17be with you guys.
- 27:18This has been Inspirations For Your Life.
- 27:21And this is where long-term thinking wins.
- 27:26So stop with the short-term.
- 27:30Think about things as a long-term project.
- 27:35And the results will be exponential.
- 27:39I hope you guys have a great rest
- 27:41of your day, great rest of your evening.
- 27:43And I want you to start thinking long
- 27:46-term.
- 27:46What I'm doing today, am I doing something
- 27:49for the greater good of all concerned?
- 27:51Not just today, tomorrow, and days in the
- 27:54future.
- 27:54If I am, I'm on the right path.
- 27:56Have a great one, everyone.
- 27:58Be well and start thinking long-term.
- 28:00Your life will change for the better.
- 28:35Thank you.
