Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations

rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, April 7th.

Building from the inside out. Most of us spend a lot of time
• 0:15
thinking about the outside of our lives, what people think of
• 0:18
us, how we come across, whether we seem strong, successful,
• 0:23
spiritual, or put together. But Jesus always brings us back
• 0:27
to the deeper place, the hidden place, the place beneath
• 0:30
appearances. Proverbs chapter 14, verses one
• 0:34
to two says that wisdom builds, but folly tears down.
• 0:38
And in Mark Chapter 7, verses 21 to 23, Jesus says that the
• 0:42
things that defile a person come from within the heart that is
• 0:47
deeply honest and deeply hopeful at the same time.
• 0:50
Honest because it means our biggest problem is not just out
• 0:53
there somewhere, it is in here. Pride, envy, bitterness,
• 0:58
selfishness, lust and deceit can quietly grow inside us long
• 1:02
before anyone else notices. We can look fine on the outside
• 1:06
while something unhealthy is shaping us from within.
• 1:09
And eventually what is inside spills out.
• 1:12
It affects our words, our relationships, our decisions,
• 1:15
and what we are building with our lives.
• 1:18
But this is also hopeful because Jesus is not just exposing the
• 1:22
  problem. He is inviting transformation.
• 1:25
He is able to cleanse what is hidden and rebuild what has been
• 1:28
weakened. He can deal with the motives
• 1:31
beneath the behavior and the wound beneath the reaction.
• 1:34
He does not just want better habits from you.
• 1:36
He wants your heart. A wise life is built from the
• 1:39
inside out. It starts with surrender.
• 1:42
It starts with letting God search you honestly.
• 1:45
Where is jealousy taking root? Where is anger controlling you?
• 1:49
Where is pride making you hard to teach?
• 1:52
These are not questions meant to shame you.
• 1:54
They are invitations to healing. You do not have to keep patching
• 1:57
the outside while the inside cracks.
• 1:59
Bring your heart to Jesus. Let Him make it new.
• 2:03
What He changes within you will begin to shape everything around
• 2:06
  you. Let's pray.
• 2:08
Heavenly Father, thank You that You care about my heart, not
• 2:11
just my image. Search me and show me anything
• 2:14
in me that needs your healing and truth.
• 2:16
Clean out what is sinful, bitter, proud, or unloving and
• 2:20
fill me with a heart that reflects you.
• 2:23
Help me build my life with wisdom, integrity and surrender
• 2:26
so that what grows in me honors you in Jesus name, Amen.
• 2:34
What if you could rise up and declare with full spiritual
• 2:37
authority, I shall not die, but live?

Proverbs chapter 14 verses one to two World English Bible.
• 3:42
Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish one tears
• 3:46
it down with her own hands. He who walks in his uprightness
• 3:50
fears Yahweh, but he who is perverse in his ways despises
• 3:53
him. Mark Chapter 7 World English
• 3:56
Bible. Then the Pharisees and some of
• 3:59
the scribes gathered together to him, having come from Jerusalem.
• 4:04
Now when they saw some of his disciples eating bread with
• 4:06
defiled, that is, unwashed hands, they found fault.
• 4:11
For the Pharisees and all the Jews don't eat unless they wash
• 4:15
their hands and forearms, holding to the tradition of the
• 4:18
elders. They don't eat when they come
• 4:20
from the marketplace unless they bathe themselves.
• 4:23
And there are many other things which they have received to hold
• 4:25
to washings of cups, pitchers, bronze vessels and couches.
• 4:32
The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, Why don't your
• 4:35
disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat
• 4:38
their bread with unwashed hands? He answered them, Well did
• 4:42
Isaiah prophecy of you hypocrites as it is written.
• 4:46
This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far
• 4:49
from me. They worship Me in vain,
• 4:52
teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.
• 4:55
For you set aside the commandment of God, and hold
• 4:58
tightly to the tradition of men the washing of pitchers and
• 5:01
cups, and you do many other such things.
• 5:04
He said to them Full well, do you reject the commandment of
• 5:07
God, that you may keep your tradition.
• 5:10
For Moses said, honor your father and your mother, and he
• 5:14
who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.
• 5:17
But you say if a man tells his father or his mother whatever
• 5:22
profit you might have received from me is Corbin, that is to
• 5:25
say, given to God, then you no longer allow him to do anything
• 5:29
for his father or his mother, making void the word of God by
• 5:33
your tradition which you have handed down.
• 5:36
You do many things like this. He called all the multitude to
• 5:40
himself, and said to them, Hear me, all of you, and understand.
• 5:45
There is nothing from outside of the man that going into him can
• 5:48
defile him. But the things which proceed out
• 5:50
of the man are those that defile the man.
• 5:54
If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.
• 5:56
When he had entered into a house away from the multitude, his
• 5:59
disciples asked him about the parable.
• 6:02
He said to them, Are you also without understanding?
• 6:06
Don't you perceive that whatever goes into the man from outside
• 6:09
can't defile him, because it doesn't go into his heart but
• 6:12
into his stomach, then into the latrine making all foods clean?
• 6:16
He said that which proceeds out of the man that defiles the man.
• 6:22
For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil
• 6:25
thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts,
• 6:28
covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires and evil eye,
• 6:32
  blasphemy, pride and foolishness.
• 6:36
All these evil things come from within and defile the man.
• 6:40
From there he arose and went away into the borders of Tyre
• 6:43
and Sidon. He entered into a house and
• 6:46
didn't want anyone to know it. But he couldn't escape notice,
• 6:50
for a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit,
• 6:53
having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet.
• 6:57
Now the woman was a Greek, a Seraphonician by race.
• 7:00
She begged him that he would cast the demon out of her
• 7:02
daughter, But Jesus said to her, Let the children be filled
• 7:06
first, for it is not appropriate to take the children's bread and
• 7:10
throw it to the dogs. But she answered him, Yes, Lord,
• 7:15
yet even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs.
• 7:18
He said to her, For this saying, Go your way, the demon has gone
• 7:23
out of your daughter. She went away to her house and
• 7:26
found the child having been laid on the bed.
• 7:28
With the demon gone out again. He departed from the borders of
• 7:32
Tyre and Sidon and came to the Sea of Galilee through the
• 7:35
middle of the region of Decapolis.
• 7:38
They brought to him one who was deaf and had an impediment in
• 7:41
his speech. They begged him to lay his hand
• 7:44
on him. He took him aside from the
• 7:46
multitude privately and put his fingers into his ears, and he
• 7:50
spat and touched his tongue. Looking up to heaven.
• 7:54
He sighed and said to him, If Fatha that is be opened
• 7:58
immediately his ears were opened and the impediment of his tongue
• 8:01
was released, and he spoke clearly.
• 8:04
He commanded them that they should tell no one, but the more
• 8:07
he commanded them so much the more widely they proclaimed it.
• 8:10
They were astonished beyond measure, saying He has done all
• 8:14
things well. He makes even the deaf here and
• 8:17
the mute speak. Thanks for joining us on Bible
