I can do this before you put those on I know. Daddy punches your eyes.
• 0:12
[upbeat music] That sounds extra heavy today. Ah, yes. Well, that, yeah, my... I'm still kind of in the tinnitus world. Oh, yeah? Sorry. From, from the Melvins? Yes.
• 0:29
Well, yes, yes, yes. Double- Hey... double, double percussion. Oh, there you go. Dual drum kits, man. Oh, [laughs] yes. Little rearranging here. Uh, hey, everybody, it's Full Spectrum Cycling. Oh. Show number 3- 106.
• 0:43
Fine, fine area code up in Saskatoon. Oh, yeah, Saskatoon. Yeah, one time. Right on. That's, like, directly north of North Dakota, isn't it? Or- I think so... Montana or somewhere over there.
• 0:56
It's Saskatchewan, which is like- Yeah... a slender but- But long and tall... tall. Yeah, yes.
• 1:02
Kind of like a, a Vermont, but inflated and- So when Canada was gonna be the 51st state, well, what happened to all the provinces? Would they be just, like, territories or something? I don't know. City states. Uh, yeah.
• 1:14
City- Yeah, it's the Roman Empire- Yeah... and it's all fallen. Some stupid people. It's all fallen down and- Oh... yeah, yeah, yeah. Welcome. Hey, everybody. So, yeah. [laughs] I... What's going on?
• 1:25
What the heck is going on here? Uh, I'm, like, daze- dazed and confused, I [laughs] think. Well, I didn't ride to the rave, but I did take the, the Trusky route- Oh, okay... to get there. Gotcha. Which is awesome.
• 1:44
Uh, 20th Street, a lot of it. Yeah. I remember the, kind of thinking that it was sort of a weird way to go, but ended up working out well. Yeah, yeah. No, I didn't do, uh- There we go... on the way back.
• 1:55
I'm happier this way now. There was a little... There was construction, of course, because- Oh... 'tis, 'tis the season, but- Well, there's-... on the way there it was like...
• 2:03
There's a couple things in the Milwaukee Minute or five that are construction-oriented, I think. [laughs] I know.
• 2:11
Things, things that were, were working smoothly are now going to not be working smoothly again for a while. Oh, yes, and that I did- Is that how it goes in your neighborhood, dear listener?
• 2:21
Do you have the construction season and then winter, like we do here [laughs] in old Wiscony? And they like to dovetail into each other and... Yeah.
• 2:31
So while I just wonder, this Holton Street Bridge thing, which is something we use, I use for every lap of the Riverwest 24, 'cause it's the shallowest angle and the easiest- Yeah... gr- grooviest way to go.
• 2:42
I didn't get in this year, so I don't have to... Yeah, I heard something about that. So, yeah. What happened? You overslept, I, I think? A little bit. What it was. Yeah. That's all right.
• 2:49
You're still gonna wanna ride up that, or maybe you won't, because I don't think you can now. I'm not sure. Well, unless you just take traffic. Yeah, but that's gonna be a danger zone. Danger is my middle name.
• 3:02
I should have a link for that. If you're in Milwaukee, you probably already know, but it's not that big a deal. That's right, ice man. So- I am dangerous...
• 3:11
uh, your Fat Tire Tour of Milwaukee is coming up pretty quick here. That's right, Spalding. Isn't it? What, what's the date of that, that's thing? Is it like this- June 20- shren, shren.
• 3:22
I can find it while we talk about it. Uh, what, the, what, what's the- It's always around, uh, Father's Day. Yeah, what's the theme this year? Milwaukee Shack. Yeah. Mm. Is it like a Caddy Shack- Caddy Shack... takeoff?
• 3:32
So are there gonna be a lot of, uh, dancing golfers and whatnot? Uh, yeah, I could see that. Uh, it, it is a theme that lends itself to the costumery. All right, here's- I'll give it that.
• 3:44
Uh, Saturday, June 14th is the date for that. If it's a nice day, there will be many, many, many hundreds of people on that ride. So if you wanna get in it for a relatively small amount of money before day of,
• 3:59
go to fattiretoure.com and- Save yourself 10 bucks... yeah, or even more, depending. I think it's at the 10... Yeah. To be fair, they are city streets and... Yeah, and, or, yeah. You know. I, yeah. Whatever you wanna do.
• 4:12
Look at these- Don't worry about it... look at these ugly mugs and find them and then- Yeah... just latch on. Yeah, right. Didn't somebody do that last year? Seems like somebody does it every year.
• 4:21
Well, no, that was, like, some dude like, [laughs] "Hey, I listen to your show." Oh, did they hear Tony's voice? Or something. Some- Yeah, it was something at Valley Inn.
• 4:28
At Val- And going like, "Hey, hey, this guy listens, actually." The ho- the, the host formerly known as Tony. [laughs] It's like, this guy actually listens. [laughs] The former host known as Tony. He's like, damn.
• 4:37
Yeah, so, you know, it's, it's a tradition. It's a big deal. It's a thing. Yeah. It'll be done. Um, and it starts at Best Place just like always, so pop up there about 9:00, 9:30.
• 4:47
Mill about, talk to your friends you haven't seen for a year. Get on that bike you haven't ridden for a year, which- I have to give, uh, Jason his obligatory bacon every time. Oh, there you go.
• 4:56
So he's always like- That puts you in good stead with Jason... yeah, exactly. As long as I do that, all is well in the world. So, [laughs] to... I think I missed one year, and he was really, really disappointed
• 5:08
when I- [laughs]... had seen him, you know, [laughs] like, later, and I'm just like- Like-... "Dude, it's all right. I didn't see you." I'm surprised- Or, or you were in the middle of...
• 5:13
Well, I mean, 'cause he is, um, you know, master of ceremonies, you know? Yeah. In the most- I'm surprised he hasn't made his own bacon by now... in the most literal sense, where it's like I, I'm doing, you know- Yeah.
• 5:23
Okay... P.T. Barnuming it completely all the way through. It is a big, a, a big endeavor. So when he has a moment, I'm just like, "Bacon." Bacon. And then they're... You know, you gotta find it. Right. Bacon.
• 5:32
That's what you do as a bacon ambassador or whatever the hell I am. So, uh, I don't know what day it was. Someday Tony said it's a package pickup prize. What, uh...
• 5:44
WMSC, like, when you donate, you get a few things like that. Jim Bot. Beep boop. That is the pint glass for this year. I only donated, but I didn't donate in perpetu- I mean, I am a, a sustaining member already. Sure.
• 5:59
Right. But I didn't do anything to re-up it or- Me either. I just said-... anything to get-... "Hey, I'm a guitar smasher. Ryan, what do you got for me? Give me a glass. Guess what else he gave me?"
• 6:07
I'm gonna use this maybe on Fat Tire Tour. Check this out. Oh, lordy. Oh, nar. It's a, it's a cooler. They said... How many did they say that you could put in there? Uh, it- Something ridiculous...
• 6:20
I think you could put an 18-pack in there somehow. Hmm. We're gonna have to do a little, uh, beer cannery push, push- Somebody said it at first, but it's good for a hot dish. Let's see. Good old casseroles.
• 6:30
It's kind of like- That's what I heard... roundish and- Eat local, drink local, listen local. I like that. And, and- That's a good little tagline... yeah. So it's got, it's insulated and
• 6:40
that was, I think, at the 100 and... I don't know if that's at the 120 level. You know, it- Yeah, I think so. I think so... but I'm, since, so I'm just like, well, a Guitar Smasher.
• 6:49
It's way more than that, so it's like- Sure. Sure, sure, sure... take one of those things. So this is the, uh, that's the can cooler. You might- So I've been-... kinda donate and get some...
• 6:56
You can still do that probably, I believe. While we're on, yeah, while we're on that little tangent, the, uh, I was doing some financial gymnastics in my head and I was like- Okay...
• 7:08
[grumbles] you know, okay, because you're special. Because after I Was Your Plus One- Oh, yeah... in, uh, Hue. Yeah. Which was awesome- Food...
• 7:16
food and, I mean, just in general, I'm going like, okay, so you're gonna do one of these every- Uh, there's one-... season... there's another one coming up in June. Every season. Yeah. So it's like, okay- At least...
• 7:25
so that's built in, and then all the ticket things. Some of the things I wouldn't actually buy tickets for normally, but if that's built in, yeah, I would go. I'd probably go to it. Yeah.
• 7:35
I mean, like Big Bandit, I, I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy the ticket- Sure... personally. Right. But if I, it's part of the, what I'm getting, sure, I'll go. Yeah.
• 7:44
And I'll have a good time. Hey, here's something that hasn't happened in a long time. Know why? We haven't had the call in studio call screener line going, but- Oh my God. I, now it's made it- Hey...
• 7:53
time for me to shut up. Hey, hey, welcome to the radio program, caller. I was fiddling- Who do we have on the line?... I'm stretching, stretching it out. Uh, hello and stuff. Hello? Maybe I push the button again.
• 8:05
There we go. There, there we- Oh, this, this technology stuff Are we there? Was it- There we are. Hey, welcome to- Was that an audition? [laughs] I think it was an audition. Welcome to the radio program, caller.
• 8:13
Who do we now have on the line since I figured out how it works? It's, it's all, it, it's Alroy. It's Alroy. Alroy. Yes. North of the, north of the border brother Alroy. It is. That's right.
• 8:25
Yeah, I was, I, uh, I did miss you guys a couple times because I didn't realize you had changed, uh, changed the evening, so that was, took a little bit of adjustment.
• 8:32
That's why I emailed you earlier there, Sven, and so I'm glad we got a chance to work that out, but that's great. Oh, yeah. No, no problem and, to be fair, I've kinda been, like, not...
• 8:42
If we have an in studio guest, I don't always turn it on just so it's, like- [laughs]... one less thing to push buttons on, but it's good to have you back on, on the program, Alroy. What's happening up, uh, up your way?
• 8:54
Uh, you know what? It's, it's been good. Today's, uh, this week ahead's gonna be just nasty. It's gonna be wet. But, um, so far the spring's turning out to be pretty good. Uh, the winter was,
• 9:05
uh, just after when I talked to you guys last, just before Global Fat Bike Day, the, the, the Global Fat Bike Day was one of the best that we've had in years. Yeah. Uh, it actually, we did have snow.
• 9:14
I went riding with a few buddies and, um, it was fantastic, and then it sorta just dried out. There wasn't a, wasn't a great amount of accumulation.
• 9:20
And then I think based on what I r- when I was listening to you guys, it was basically the same. We got, uh, a massive amount of snow in a short period of time and, uh, more than, than I can remember in the last decade.
• 9:33
So that made things, on the other end, it was tricky to ride because there was too much snow, so we'd ended up- Ah... doing the cross-country ski thing and- Yeah, you can't, uh- And, um, but yeah... can't win for losing.
• 9:42
No, we, we've had- No, I know. Everybody wants to have- [laughs] Hmm? I was gonna say, we, we kinda had a... Down here where we are in Milwaukee, we did not have a snow event that was that big.
• 9:51
I think they had one up where, uh, Seely Dave is, kinda more northy, northern Wisconsin way. We had two weekends back to back that just, that just pounded us with snow.
• 10:01
And so much so actually that the, the streets here became only just one lane narrow. If we had gotten another snowfall, I don't know.
• 10:08
[laughs] Most people's front lawns in the newer subdivisions are so tiny that they really had nowhere to put the snow. I mean, it wasn't- [laughs]... not something like Buffalo gets. I mean, we, we talked- Oh, yeah...
• 10:18
about a lot of snow here, but it, it's not like where you would see people shoveling their roofs off. It wasn't like that- Yeah... but it was a lot for here- Yeah... where we are. Yeah.
• 10:24
So I just, uh- And, uh- Uh, y- y- do you run 45 North tires? Uh, yes. Actually, that was, I was... Ha, so I jotted down a couple things that I wanted to talk to you about. Oh, okay.
• 10:35
And I wanted to know from you, because you're more, um, sort of, you know, you're in the industry. You know, I can just buy things or whatever. But is Nor- 4th, 45 North, are they planning on doing any, um,
• 10:48
of, the versions of their tires, like say for instance the Husker Du in a 27.5? Because, uh, what I do with the bike that I had, the Norco was great. I would run the Dillinger 4 unstudded up front, the aggressive tire.
• 10:59
Uh-huh. And on the back I'd run the Husker Du 4 inch on the back. Gotcha. Well, now they've made the, the Husker Du 4.8 and it looks kinda odd. It's a little bit too, it looks weird. Yeah.
• 11:08
It was a skinnier tire at the front and the wide tire at the back. Sure. Yeah. So I was wondering if you had heard anything if they're gonna do that at all or any of the, the other variations of their tires.
• 11:15
In, uh, in 27.5? Yes. It's, yes. I'm, yeah, the D- so the Dillinger 5 they make in a 27.5, which is really a 27 by 4.5. Uh- Yeah...
• 11:29
so in, in a 26 inch it would be a, like a 4.8, but in a 27.5 it's a 4.5. Math. We were just, uh, Seely Dave and I were just talking about this because,
• 11:40
uh, you know, uh, we've been like, what's the, what's the contact patch? We're coming up with a way to like do a, do an ink spot or, you know, paint the tire or do something so we can get the contact patch and see it.
• 11:51
I'm sure other people have done it before, but I haven't seen one recently, and there was just sort of...
• 11:57
I went and, back and, and kinda redid an article that, uh, Gomez had written some time ago about 26 by five versus 27.5 by 4 and a half. Blah, blah, blah.
• 12:10
And, you know, ultimate flotation, I'm still thinking it's, it's the 26 on 100 millimeter rim because they don't make 100 millimeters unless you get, unless you go- No...
• 12:18
unless you go to the 24 by 6.2 big old Moonlander or whatever that thing is called these days. [laughs] Oh, the, the new one? Yeah. The six- Yeah... or 5.8 So without, without getting into something that's super
• 12:31
specifically purpose-built, uh, most of my, most of my fat bikes, uh, would not be happy with a 27 by 4.5, although my new Bearclaw would. I just have n- personally never had that size tire or that size wheel, so.
• 12:47
The Clunker is- Well, yeah, but I mean- I mean, I mean for the personal ge- That's a bike that I-... geometry of it. Sure. You know what I mean? But not the fatness. Right. Right. Right, right.
• 12:56
Well, the, the Rocky Mountain that I purchased, and I wasn't looking for it, but because, I, I mean, they're almost... There's just...
• 13:02
They're running 27.5, so what I would, what I did run on mine, because I do use it for commuting primarily, I get back and forth, but it also... And I use it for everything else as well.
• 13:11
So I try to stay, if I'm trying to get somewhere in a decent amount of time, I'll stay with the four-inch tires.
• 13:16
So the Dillinger, unstudded Dillinger 4 tires, they're pretty aggressive and they roll fairly decently for- Yeah... um, you know, if you're doing bike packing and stuff.
• 13:23
The reason I like the Husqvarna tread was because it was, it was so fast rolling. I mean, you, you...
• 13:28
There was very little resistance on it and I thought if they would make the, the larger diameter tire with the, with the Husqvarna tread pattern. I mean, what I'm always looking for is something that is a summer...
• 13:39
They always, they always, they stress the winter, winter, winter, but they don't really ever have a nice summer tire that's, you know, as, as nice as that Husqvarna. It was a great tire.
• 13:47
It wore down very quickly on the roadway. It did. I w- will say that. It did- Yeah. That-... tread off very fast, but- That's sort of a, that's sort of a NE 45Nrth. They seem to wear pretty quickly. Um, the Vanhelga.
• 13:59
Vanhelga. 45Nrth Vanhelga. Mm-hmm. Which is what I was kind of opening this up with. They sent a, an email around like, "Oh, it's an all, it's an all-season tire, that thing.
• 14:09
You can use that, you know, summer, winter, sand, snow, whatever." And it's... I, I like to see 45Nrth embracing that because they were always all about, you know, cold weather and snow and groomed trails and all that.
• 14:21
Yeah. Well, now you wanna sell some tires, you wanna get people to be riding not only in the winter. They need to be riding all season long. And so they do make a 27.5 by 4 Vanhelga, so that might be...
• 14:35
And it's- Yeah, that- They, they even got the tan sidewall version- I've looked at that too... which is kind of cool. Yeah, that is- Yeah. Yeah. Kinda, kinda- It's very sharp... kinda good looking, that tan sidewall.
• 14:41
Mm-hmm. Yeah. I find that I, I also pick the...
• 14:45
Sometimes it's, for me, it's [laughs] this might sound kind of stupid, but I pick, uh, the first thing that caught my eye before, before I had a fat bike and what I did finally purchase, my 2015, was the Husqvarna, 'cause I was a big fan of the band.
• 14:55
Yep, yep, yep. Uh-huh. And, you know, I like the Dill- I like the band Dillinger, Dillinger Four as well. Yeah. [laughs] So when those two tires are on there and I have this Descendant stem and for...
• 15:03
I mean, you know what? Maybe it's functionality, maybe, but it... [laughs] Right. I don't know. I like the way it looks and it- I'm with you... makes me feel good riding it. So,
• 15:11
you know, so I, I did li- I always liked that, the Husqvarna name on the side of the tire was cool. Yep. And, um, what I have noticed about the width of the tires, I...
• 15:18
What, this Rocky Mountain came with these, what's supposed to be 4.8, uh, studdable Cake Eaters. Fantastic tire, but they are massive. They...
• 15:28
If I set them beside another 4.5 inch tire, like this VEE Rubber tire that my son's bike came with, they are, they're almost too big to fit in the t- They're huge. They're a massive tire.
• 15:38
And so I don't know where they're, where they're measuring from, but that tire is the biggest 4.5 that I've ever seen. Yeah. Have, have you...
• 15:45
I know that, uh, I think there's a couple companies, like WTB, I don't think they even make a 26-inch fat bike tire. They came out right away with the Bailiff, which is a 27.5 by 4 1/2. So. Okay.
• 16:00
And, and I was just looking. This, I thought that, uh, Schwalbe made a Jumbo Jim in a 27.5, but I'm not finding it. And then Maxxis, uh, if you can still get 'em, Minion, uh, FBF and FBRs are 27.5 by 3.8.
• 16:15
So if you want your kind of commuter tire, that might be one to look at. Yeah. As soon as the tread pattern on their Maxxis Colossus too seem to be more of a s- uh, short...
• 16:24
Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong tire, but they had a shorter, almost like a stubbier square lug. You know what I mean? And those re- looked like they might work as well.
• 16:31
Yeah, it, it takes a while to wear them off, so it's, by the time I get to the next set of tires, maybe they'll have some different variations of something else.
• 16:37
But, you know, I've been happy with the purchases, especially 45Nrth sets up so easy.
• 16:42
With a, with a simple air pump, those pump up to the, the witness line there so quick, it doesn't matter if it's tubeless or, or with the tubes. Yeah. It doesn't... Uh, such seem easy to use.
• 16:51
I mean, they're great tires for that. I've fought with some other tires and just about, you know, it's, it's brutal trying to get 'em on the rim to seat, but those tires set up almost effortlessly.
• 17:00
With 10 pounds of air in 'em, they're set. So I've, I like that feature as well. They're built, really well-built tires. What, uh, does- Worth the money... what rims does, do the wheels have?
• 17:08
Are they, uh, Sun or wh- what's the, uh, actual rim? Yeah. It's, uh, uh, I didn't notice it was called... I call them Sun Ringles, but apparently they're Sun Ringlé. Ringlé. Sorry, maybe I was pronouncing it wrong.
• 17:19
Ringlé. Ringlé. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. So that's, yeah, that's what they were. They were tubeless ready Sun Ringlé, um, f- uh, 80 mil wide, 27.5. So yeah. Yeah.
• 17:27
They come ready tubeless if you want, which is, which is fantastic, you know? Yeah. It's a good rim. Cool. Yeah. I mean, it's alm- it's almost the only kind of OE
• 17:37
rim that's not a specific, like, Bontrager for Trek, and obviously Specialized- Mm... doesn't do it anymore. So pretty much, you know, most of your bikes are gonna have that.
• 17:47
We got one of the, uh, Panorama ChikChuks 3 bikes in for testing, and that had that, uh, that Sun Ringlé with some 45Nrth tire on. Dave's, Dave's still got it up in Seeley.
• 18:00
He just did a bike packing trip and stuff on it, but that's kind of a cool bike. I... It's got... I'm, I, I'm curious to ride it.
• 18:07
He's gonna bring it back down here, and I wanna check it out on the beach, 'cause it's got a fairly steep, uh, seat tube at, like, 74.
• 18:17
And then a 66 head tube angle, which that's about as slack as I've ever heard on a fat bike, so curious. Yeah, it works, it works well.
• 18:26
That, that angle, those angles are what's basically what the Rocky Mountain has and, and it, it worked great. I, I felt so at home on that bike. It didn't have... It... There was little to do when it came stock.
• 18:35
There was very little I did to it that made it better. You know what I mean? I could put on the fancy, you know, anodized parts, but it didn't make it the... It didn't make the bike better in the sense of fit wise.
• 18:45
It, it, it worked great right out of the box, so I was pretty- Yeah... surprised and happy with that. Well, I was pretty sure that, you know, that would be, those angles would be great for, like,
• 18:55
riding trails in the summer and doing, you know, three-season stuff. I just, like, what do they do in soft conditions? I'm kinda curious as in our- Yeah, I didn't notice anything,
• 19:06
like, as far as washing out in the snow and stuff like that. I didn't notice there was... There is a little bit. It's a little bit lighter on the front.
• 19:11
Like, the front sticks out a little bit farther, so there is a little bit of... You gotta use a little bit of English on it, but it's, it's not, it's not so terrible that you notice it. You know what I mean? Huh.
• 19:20
All right. Sounds good. What, uh, what else is going on up in Canada? Are you... Is everybody, uh, sh- shaking their fist at, uh, the neighbors to the south? [laughs] Or lifting the leg. Well, you know what? There's...
• 19:33
It, it... No. [laughs] No, it's... You know what it is, is it's, it's, um, not... There's, there's a percentage of people that are... They're either one of two things.
• 19:43
They're very, very angry at what's going on, or they're... Like, there's been articles with saying that Canadians are, are fearful of crossing the seas.
• 19:51
Like, I have, I would have no, no problems, no qualms at all going down there. You know, you just kinda, you just kinda... When in Rome, do like the Romans. You know what I mean? Like, you're not gonna- Yeah...
• 19:59
don't stick out. Just answer the questions and, uh, you know, just sort of just soak it all in and, and see. Like, I, it doesn't affect me personally. Now I let my stupid passport expire, so [laughs] I haven't- Oh.
• 20:11
[laughs]... gotten around to getting that again. Yeah. But yeah, I'd have no problem.
• 20:13
We do have, I do have, um, my wife's, uh, family is in, uh, Virginia, so we do, we do travel down there on sort of a semi-regular basis, so- I would think your, uh- Like, uh, no, it wouldn't- I think your state department is probably a little more dialed in than ours, so you might have a little- [laughs]...
• 20:27
like expedited, a little easier than- Yeah, right... [laughs] than anything we're dealing with I don't know Well, apparently there's no lines at the border.
• 20:34
No, no, we hear- There's no lines at the border, which it makes it great I know. I was up in, uh- Especially with the Trump situation at the border... Sault Ste Marie, and it was like, "Ah, it's so close."
• 20:41
[laughs] Yeah, I haven't had any, I haven't had anybody down here I met say aboot at all for a while now, so yeah. No.
• 20:48
[laughs] Yeah, they get, they get kind of, they get kinda tweaked about the, the 51st, uh, state comment, but, you know, I took it as... Like, I mean, I, I kinda ran with it.
• 20:56
I bought a shirt with it, and the guys, you should see the looks you get. And I just kinda laugh about it 'cause it's more... Not for...
• 21:01
that I necessarily would, you know, agree with, but it, it's kinda funny to see who will react to it. Sure. 'Cause sometimes [laughs] you get these really, you know...
• 21:09
And so it generates some sort of a reaction, which is- "Don't you have any pride?" Yeah. Like, don't you... You know? Yeah. [laughs] For sure. Yeah, yeah. "You should move." Yeah, "You should move.
• 21:17
Get out of here, you traitor," [laughs] that sort of thing. Yeah. Yeah. So, but, uh, you just gotta kinda t- tongue in cheek it and yeah, no, we're just... It'll, yeah, every, there's, there's ups and downs- The car-...
• 21:26
with every generation and- The carnival barker will be gone soon. Yes, along with his orange visage. Uh, so did you- You know what? Did you see the- Yeah...
• 21:36
the, the, the recent post with, uh, the old Gary Fisher, the little video- [laughs]... we got at, uh, Interbike on the fatbike.com website? Yep. [laughs] Yes, I did. As a matter of fact, I did watch that.
• 21:48
I w- I wasn't sure if I watched it the f- originally the first time around- Yeah... but I did watch it again this time. You just put it back on again, and you know what? Yeah. He was... He made... It sounded pretty good.
• 21:57
He w- I don't know that he made the prediction about the percentage of fat bikes being sold- Right... now. I don't know- Sure... if that's necessarily true, but- No...
• 22:03
the rest of what he was saying made perfect sense to me. Yeah. Yeah, it was- Like, uh- I just, I always- Yeah, absolutely, 100%... I always liked it just because he's so enthusiastic at the time- Oh, yeah...
• 22:12
and it's just, and, and he's him, which is, he's always funny, but- Yeah, yeah... uh, yeah. It, it, it's by far the, the most popular thing we've put on Facebook on the site [laughs] in a while.
• 22:22
Just people wanna talk about it. They're like, "Oh, yeah, he missed by, I don't know, 100%," or something. It's like, "So what? Listen to what he's saying-" Yeah... "not his prediction," you know? The spirit of.
• 22:31
Right, the spirit of. And I, I- Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Uh, I, I, I don't think he's wrong. And he's such a joyful human. [laughs] Joyful. I just e- I've met him twice, and both times...
• 22:43
I mean, he doesn't know me from Adam, but it was just like he just so enthusiastic about just yapping at you, with you- Yeah... near you. Yeah. Involving you, don't involving you. Yeah. No, no, no. Uh, yeah.
• 22:55
He's, he's a, he's a m- He's a good guy... a man about town. Does he, does he always dress like that? Is that his normal attire? Like, well, does he, does he do that, or is that just for the- Yeah.
• 23:04
The two times I interacted... was that just for the show? Yeah, he especially... Yeah, he's definitely a- Okay... I wouldn't say flamboyant. What's the term I'm looking for? Eccentric. Eccentric dresser, yes, possibly.
• 23:14
Okay. And his lady- Yeah... I don't know if he's still with her, she was also very, you know, dressed to the nines, kind of a- Robin Pluer... kind of a, eh- Out there, out there, heavy...
• 23:23
more, more leather skirty than- Okay... Robin Pluer flim- fl- flammery With the, with the hat and flamboyancy Yeah, no, not, not that way. More- Okay. More, more sleek and, uh, you know, more, I don't know.
• 23:36
The fork in the road of eccentricity.
• 23:38
I'm not, I don't, I don't have any fashion sense at all, so [laughs] except I'm wearing this kick-ass, you can't see it all, Roy, but you can see it in the video, this kick-ass Club Ride shirt, which is very nice.
• 23:48
Uh, I don't know if you have any of their gear, but we're now an affiliate for Club Ride. So if you click on a Club Ride link on our site- Right...
• 23:55
when I get around to it, we might make a dollar or two to keep the, uh, the squirrel cage spinning. So yeah, good stuff though. That's cool. Yeah, they've had some, they've had some good stuff.
• 24:05
I also like, I, by the way, I haven't, uh, bad on me, I haven't ordered my Fat Bike T-shirt yet. Oh, that's okay. No, my daughter, she wanted one, and I want one too.
• 24:13
So I am definitely getting the punk one, and she wants the other one. So- All right then...
• 24:16
we are gonna do that and, you know, as soon as we get a chance to sit down again, maybe right after this, I'll do that before I forget. [laughs] Cool.
• 24:22
And before it gets lost in the shuffle of other- You know, all that stuff, but, um, yeah, no, they, they look, the designs look fantastic. Love it. Yeah. So, yeah, I'm, I'm eager to have some more fat bike stuff.
• 24:31
That's, you know, there's bike, all kinds of bike stuff, but fat bikes and fat bike stuff- Oh, yeah, there's a couple right down there... is kinda what I'm- Right down there... I was gonna send those to Sealy Dave.
• 24:37
Uh, there are... Yeah, we have a couple designs.
• 24:40
So doing T-shirt designs is kind of interesting, because I don't wanna just do an all-over print or they get kinda weird about how kind of, like, thick the ink and stuff is, so you have to kinda design it around the shirt.
• 24:53
So I've been designing them around black shirts right now just 'cause it's easy, but yeah, we've got some other stuff in the works, so keep, keep your eyes peeled.
• 25:01
They'll be coming every couple months or so we'll have something new, I think. Goodness me. There- Oh. [bell ringing] All this. There was a Saturday... Did you? Oh, nice. He, he's ringing the bell.
• 25:12
[laughs] He's been ringing my bell. Um- He just sounded parched. Well, it's getting drier, so it's- I know. Yeah. I, I- Oh, it's on the, it's on the seat over there.
• 25:18
Uh, are you, uh, are you, uh, partaking of the, uh, libation up in, uh, Canada there? Do, does a bear shit in the woods? Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. I've- Yes, I am. I am. [laughs] As a matter of fact.
• 25:31
Does the Pope shit on a bear? Well, yeah, we're, we're finishing off- [laughs]... the Toppling Goliath Pseudo Sue from, from a show or two ago. This is, this is some good stuff, plus it's got a T-Rex on the, on the box.
• 25:45
So- And it's not King Sue or- Yeah... Turbo Sue or Ice Sue. Yeah, Slap You in the Face Sue. What- Yeah, where they drink nicely, but then they're, like, at 8, 9%. What are you drinking up there, uh, Alroy?
• 25:59
You're drinking a Labatt's? [laughs] I've got a... No, it's actually a, a Muskoka Brewery Mad Tom West Coast IPA. Right. Uh, ABV 6.4, so you know how I, I always like to...
• 26:12
I always say that, uh, you can get, actually get smarter while drinking because these, these... Everything I pick up seems to have some sort of a backstory or some sort of little thing.
• 26:19
So I think it's a nod to, from what I looked up, their website doesn't actually have it on the can itself, but it's for, um, Tom Thomson, one of the, the Group of Seven painters from Algonquin that, uh, died mysteriously.
• 26:30
So that's the- Oh... that's the picture on the can of- Oh... of that. So that's kinda cool. Yeah, I c- like that. It's a good strong. It's got a nice, uh, it's a good IPA for sure. Right on.
• 26:40
So that's what I'm enjoying this evening, yep. Sounds good. I'm enjoying this Pseudo Sue for sure. That, to be fair, this is the second one I had today so far, so. [laughs] Right on.
• 26:51
Uh, anything else on your list of things you wanted to bring up? Oh, by the way, before you do that, I wanna thank you for sending in- Yeah... your report on the ride race that you sent in for fatbike.com.
• 27:02
That was- Yeah... always good to have readers- I-... send in stuff so that, you know, it looks like it's a more fun site than it really is. [laughs] No, it's great.
• 27:12
You, you've had so many, like I was gonna say before, if at any time, like, I have, uh, attempted this one of the other times, but since you didn't pick up and you had guests on, it's been fantastic.
• 27:19
You've loaded up the studio with guests. Um, the site itself has been, uh, it's, you know, I've been... It's great. Even the older articles before I even bought a fatbike, some of this older stuff is brand new to me.
• 27:29
Yeah. So I'm enjoying that. And, uh, you know, yeah, I'm, I'm always... I do have s- always something sitting there to write, but it, it's getting down to the point of actually doing the, the thing.
• 27:38
It's, for me, it's not the actual happening. Like, right now talking to you, no problem, but thinking about calling in is like, [laughs] I don't know what it is with me, it's, uh, leaving the house is hard. Okay.
• 27:47
But once you get out of the house- [laughs]... it's great. So yeah. Yeah.
• 27:49
No, I do have other things that I'm, I've got, I've got, uh, sitting there with great pictures from the guys that I ride with that takes fantastic pictures as we're riding.
• 27:56
So I do have some other bike pack stuff that I wanna sit down and write about. And, uh, you know, all the other s- silly things that we d- get up to over here, I jot those down as well. Sometimes they're good- Oh...
• 28:06
sometimes they're not, so. Mr. Cory- Yep, yep... Baumann's coming in the door. Somebody snuck in our studio, Alroy. I don't know what this guy's all about here. [laughs] So cool. Well, uh, I'm glad you called in.
• 28:18
It was, uh, it made the show much better because then, you know, somebody else is talking and, and being the good guy, so. So Cor- this is Cor- Yeah, thanks. Cory just walked in. Say hey to Cory.
• 28:28
Uh, Alroy's on the, on the horn from Canada. Oh, all right. Hey, Cory. How's it going? [laughs] Hey. Right on. So, um, all right, man.
• 28:36
Well, uh, I'll, I'll try to keep the call-in lines open, but if you wanna, you know, hit me up a couple days before, I'll make sure that we're ready- Sure... to go, so. And to be fair- Absolutely...
• 28:47
we may w- like, we may s- alternate between Tuesdays and Wednesdays rarely. Wednesdays is the day, but if there were, like, a big show tomorrow that we wanted to go to, we might have done it last night.
• 28:58
Although last night- Right... was the Melvins. Yep, yep. Yeah. So what happened was- Oh, right... JK went to the Melvins last night, and so, yeah. And Napalm Death. Cool. And, uh, right. All right.
• 29:07
Well, it's great to hear from you. We'll, uh, we'll catch up with you again down the trail. Definitely. Good talking to you guys. A- Thanks for taking my call. All right. Bye. Bye. [laughs] See ya. Bye bye.
• 29:19
All right, everybody. Alroy from up there in... Where is he? He's in Toronto, I think. Toronto. I'm Saskatoon. No, he's not. Zens 306. He's in Saskatoon. How'd you sneak in here, Mr. Cory?
• 29:29
Well, so, uh, I had a staff meeting, and then I have a River West 24 meeting, so I had an hour to kill, and I popped over next door and they said that I just missed you by about 10, 15 minutes. All right.
• 29:42
So I was like, "Well, that door was open," and then somebody opened that door for me. Oh, there you go. And so- [laughs] So here I am.
• 29:47
[laughs] Yeah, sometimes people lurk for a few minutes, and then they finally get into the inner sanctum. [laughs] I, I did send you a message, and, and Tony one as well, but, uh, I knew you were busy and I- [laughs]...
• 29:57
had to Hail Mary with Tony, but. Yeah, 'cause when I have the, when I have the, uh, the call-in thing on, it's harder to get- Yeah... messages. For sure. Absolutely. And Tony, he doesn't even work here anymore.
• 30:07
Yeah, I know. I mean, he was working for free all those years, and now he's like, "Ugh." Yeah. Wait, I think- But now, now that JK and I are getting fat stacks off this thing- That's, yeah...
• 30:16
Tony's like [laughs] You made it so hard to fire him. [laughs] Like Seinfeld. Someday, folks, someday. More T-shir- Yeah... the more T-shirts people buy, the, the, the fat, fatter rich we'll get.
• 30:28
There you go You know, once, once we're, once we're done paying for just infrastructure stuff, then we start sharing the money around, you know? [laughs] We'll just start splashing everywhere.
• 30:37
About 2030 or so, uh, possibly. [laughs] Just remember, folks, there's links, there's links.
• 30:43
We got links on the thing where some of those, uh, may go to a place that we get a couple, couple shekels out of, and it doesn't cost you any more money, so don't worry too much about it.
• 30:53
But those are called affiliate links in the old, uh- Ah... internet lingo world. But, uh, yeah, so what's up with Corey? Uh, not too much. Like I said, Big River West 24 meeting tonight.
• 31:05
We're just going over registration and think it's the first meeting since registration, see how everything went from that. Just hash out some details as we start really ramping it up now that we're two months away.
• 31:18
Yeah, for sure. So. All right. Yeah. Well, uh- What's exciting here? Well, uh, we were just kinda getting towards the end of the show. I didn't really talk about a lot of stuff. We can bring it up next week.
• 31:29
We probably will do that, 'cause got some Old Man Mountain stuff to talk about, but probably get to that next week. Cool. Uh, did we miss much stuff on here? Oh, couple quick things.
• 31:41
Uh, Waterford and Gunner, the old, uh, Waterford Precision Cycles and Gunner was part of that group, got...
• 31:48
They got boughted and now those, uh, those bikes are being made in Colorado by, by a, by a place that makes bikes in Colorado. [laughs] So that's kinda cool. Stoners.
• 31:56
And then we just talked about Revel Bikes, you know, shutting down after, three days after Sea Otter, very unexpectedly. But, uh, Adam Miller, who originally started the company, bought it back.
• 32:08
It, that's been happening semi-regularly. I think the Kona boys bought their company back.
• 32:12
He's buying that company back, 'cause what happened during the heyday was Private Equity kinda came in and bought a bunch of this stuff, and then they don't know shit from Shinola about bikes.
• 32:20
They just know about efficiencies and stuff and- Right... they ruin the brand. They try to go for maximum dollar. They screw it all up.
• 32:27
Then you buy it back for pennies on the dollar from what you sold it to them for in the first place. So we should look into getting Schwinn with all your T-shirt money. Yeah. Okay. Yeah.
• 32:36
Schwinn's a, Schwinn's an- another one. I mean, unbelievable how that brand got, mm, I would say bastardized would be the term. Although, to be fair, they did start it. They started the whole movement to go
• 32:49
to Japan first, then Taiwan, then China. It's basically on their shoulders. I think B-Rad and myself will just take a pilgrimage and go get, uh, Kuwahara on our own. Yeah. All right, well, I...
• 33:02
Because of the one mic thing, it's not working that great, so, uh- Trying to use it the way- Yeah, just you... With these things, you gotta be so close to them, so it's like- Yeah, sorry for just butting in.
• 33:11
[laughs] Yeah, no, it's great. I'm, that's always fun when people pop their heads in. I remember when Ian stuck his head through the hole and it was just like a head.
• 33:18
[laughs] I'm like, "Oh my God, what's going on over there?" But, uh, hopefully we'll have him on the show soon, too. And Corey, you're always welcome back anytime. Well, thank you. I always enjoy being here. Yeah.
• 33:29
All right, everybody. Well, we did it again this week, and we'll do it again next week. And, uh, likely it'll be a Wednesday. Nothing that I... Too weird that we're looking at next week, is there? No, no, no.
• 33:40
I'm gonna be on, at l- hopefully staycation style. Oh, right on. So. They still don't have the heat on at the, at the, uh, office building there? No.
• 33:51
[laughs] No, I have this little cube that has, that's like, it has like the real, like the temperature on it. Does it look like my fireplace over there? Uh- That's what you... You need a fireplace.
• 34:03
[laughs] Well, yeah, if I gave a rip about my damn job. But, um, [laughs] but it, like, gives like the real temperature. You know, it like has a thermometer in there, and it was just like 60, 58, 57. I'm like, "Dude, 57?
• 34:20
Come on." I mean, I would be bitching at the landlord. Oh, the cube doesn't make any heat, it just tells you the temperature. Yeah. Gotcha. Tells you what the, what's going on here.
• 34:28
It's not those floaty ball things that- No. No, no... tell you what- No, no. Oh, those are cool. Mercury. Yeah, no. It's like playing Mercury. No, not that thing. No, it's... Well, whatever.
• 34:36
Uh, anyway, I'll show it to you over at the other joint. Okay, everybody. That's dealing with- We're gonna get-... my wife playing with Mercury. We're gonna get the- Hey, okay... we're gonna get that on there.
• 34:42
Don Rickles getting out of here. All right. All right. Tip your waitress.
• 34:48
  [outro music]
