- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett, got.
- 0:06Speaker 2: A hand it.
- 0:07Speaker 1: You're on the One Leg Up Network to Mayor Eric Adams, who,
- 0:11Speaker 1: as you know, is running as an independent, but while
- 0:14Speaker 1: trying to run that mayoral campaign for twenty five, he's
- 0:17Speaker 1: got to deal with these protests and making sure they
- 0:21Speaker 1: don't become La two point zero.
- 0:23Speaker 2: And usually said yesterday.
- 0:27Speaker 3: The escalation of protests in Los Angeles over the last
- 0:31Speaker 3: couple of days is unacceptable and will not be tolerated
- 0:35Speaker 3: if attempted in our city. And I want to ensure
- 0:38Speaker 3: all New Yorkers that.
- 0:39Speaker 4: We have the best police department in the world, men
- 0:43Speaker 4: and women who are prepared to handle any issues that
- 0:47Speaker 4: may arise, especially when we are faced with deep division
- 0:51Speaker 4: in our society.
- 0:53Speaker 1: And I'll tell you, it's refreshing to have a mayor
- 0:56Speaker 1: who will not stand for disorder, a chaos.
- 1:00Speaker 2: It's refreshing to have leadership that says we will not
- 1:05Speaker 2: tolerate this and mean it.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I turned to Jessica Tish, the NYPD commissioner, who has
- 1:11Speaker 1: also been weighing in this week as protests were mounting
- 1:14Speaker 1: in Fully Square, and thanks to her leadership as well,
- 1:20Speaker 1: these protests have not spiral into complete car burnings like
- 1:24Speaker 1: we've seen in LA or The.
- 1:25Speaker 5: NYPD has been dealing with daily protests really since October seventh,
- 1:30Speaker 5: twenty twenty three. Last night we had one in Lower
- 1:34Speaker 5: Manhattan around Foley Square, which is, as you mentioned, near
- 1:38Speaker 5: where the Federal Building is. In total, we saw about
- 1:41Speaker 5: twenty five hundred people, largely peaceful. We did have a
- 1:45Speaker 5: group of about two hundred who were looking to sew
- 1:48Speaker 5: a little chaos and disorder, and at the New York
- 1:51Speaker 5: City Police Department, we will not tolerate that.
- 1:54Speaker 1: And so when we look at both cities, New York
- 1:57Speaker 1: and LA, people say, well, that's a very liberal city,
- 2:00Speaker 1: it's too progressive. Finally, this coast, this city is handling
- 2:05Speaker 1: it right. They're making sure it's peaceful protest only. And
- 2:11Speaker 1: I have to say this, if we're gonna have crowds
- 2:15Speaker 1: of people blocking highways and traffic spaces, why don't we
- 2:20Speaker 1: ever have it for causes that are also for I
- 2:24Speaker 1: don't know, American's disabilities or you know, outright injustice for Americans.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Because right now these protests are about immigration, and I
- 2:42Speaker 1: do believe the violent illegals should be taken.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Out those who are trying to make a living in
- 2:50Speaker 2: here illegally. Well, I believe there's a papular decision for
- 2:54Speaker 2: them if they want to do it right.
- 2:57Speaker 1: But I never see outcry or even support for the
- 3:02Speaker 1: adaptive community.
- 3:05Speaker 2: In this kind of way. And those are American the
- 3:07Speaker 2: disabilities I'm talking about.
- 3:10Speaker 1: And so if we can see this rallying against Ice,
- 3:17Speaker 1: we sure as hell should see rallying for Americans who
- 3:23Speaker 1: are underserved because they are Americans first and foremost, and
- 3:28Speaker 1: they need to be prioritized first and foremost. And I
- 3:33Speaker 1: know I'm doing the show from the LR this morning,
- 3:35Speaker 1: but it's a busy day and I wanted to knock
- 3:37Speaker 1: this out before the day started. So thanks for bearing
- 3:41Speaker 1: with me, and they train noises behind me. But I'm
- 3:45Speaker 1: that passionate that I couldn't stay quiet about this anymore.
- 3:49Speaker 1: There are those with disabilities who are and those who
- 3:52Speaker 1: are underserved that deserve to have their voice heard too,
- 3:58Speaker 1: And we don't.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Hear that kind of support for the underserved. We need
- 4:05Speaker 2: to them, we need because these folks are protesting for
- 4:13Speaker 2: those who are here illegally.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Whatever you think of that, that's not the point. The
- 4:22Speaker 1: point is what about those who are here American born
- 4:27Speaker 1: that deal with struggling to make ends meet. That deal
- 4:32Speaker 1: with trying to make the rent, make the pay you know,
- 4:37Speaker 1: make the payday, make it to payday, trying to work
- 4:46Speaker 1: while having benefits because remember the government does not make
- 4:49Speaker 1: that easy. What about support for those who are doing
- 4:54Speaker 1: their best while trying.
- 4:56Speaker 2: To thrive and survive m and I mean Americans, American born.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Where's the support for us, the American people who are
- 5:12Speaker 2: just trying to do right and do what's lawful while
- 5:17Speaker 2: the law of vaders continue to reap all the benefits.
- 5:21Speaker 1: That has to change if we wanna have one leg
- 5:24Speaker 1: up for the American people.
