- 2:21Harridge and he's going to join us a little bit later. I'm talking about
- 2:24his plans for the party. Plus Republican strategist Greg Thomas is here, and
- 2:29I guess the big story is this morning before we go to Hannah Gardner,
- 2:31and that is that Pucksintani Phil has predicted that spring is on the way.
- 2:37Now we don't know what French Creek Freddy has to say, but he got
- 2:39the reprieve. And I love the way that the press, and I guess
- 2:45I'm one of them market certain things. I got a press release yesterday from
- 2:50Senator Mansion's office that said something to the effect of Senator Mansion saves French Creek
- 2:54Freddy. So hats off to you, Senator Manchion. We appreciate you saving

- 3:19Pat of the Week had a good morning, welcome to the show.
- 3:23Hey, how are you? I'm fine. Happy Groundhog Day. By the
- 3:24way, you too, Do you have any experiences with groundhogs? I mean,
- 3:30I know you guys are taking it in all kinds of animals up there,
- 3:32or in your personal life? Any any groundhog stories to share with us.
- 3:38No, not in my time at the shelter or actually in no personal
- 3:42life either. Well did you know that a lot of old timers, including
- 3:46a lot of my relatives who are from Wyoming County is where our family comes
- 3:50from, referred to groundhogs as whistle pigs? Did you know that? No?
- 3:54I did not know that. You see, you've learned something today.
- 3:58As a matter of factors, I had in the paper this morning about French
- 4:00Creek Freddy and they referred to him as a whistle pig because of the sounds
- 4:03that they make. A lot of the old timers called them whistle pig.
- 4:06So you see, Hannah, I've taught you something from the world of animals
- 4:10today. How cool is that? How that is that you learned something new
- 4:14every day? And there you go. You hang around me, you'll learn
- 4:15a lot of useless information. Let's get to Cheeto. Cheeto is our adoption
- 4:20me? Please put it the week is always picture posted Dave Alan Radio on
- 4:24Facebook and the Dave Alan Show on x Now. I think, if I'm
- 4:27correct about this, Hannah, Cheeto is a repeat offender, meaning we've had
- 4:30Cheeto on the show before to try to get him adopted. Is that right?
- 4:34I believe so. I figured we had had him on the show before.
- 4:38I couldn't remember. But he is just too sweet to resist and he
- 4:42needs stuff on again. Well, he's a great looking dog. And again
- 4:46we've get the picture posted on my social media. Give us the story in
- 4:48the background on Cheetoh. All right, Well, Cheeto is a very very
- 4:55very handsome, handsome dog. He's about four years old and yes, like
- 5:00you said, he has been at a shelter before, and he has been
- 5:03on the show before. He does have a fully sponsored feed, so if
- 5:12anybody were to adopt him, he is fully sponsored. I know that.
- 5:17He also is like very very good with like he knows how to sit and
- 5:23he knows how he does his thing. Whenever you hold the treat up,
- 5:26if you tell him up, he gets up on his back feet and he
- 5:29puts his front feet up in front of him and he just kind of stands
- 5:31there. So he knows those few little tricks. He's definitely what we consider
- 5:36a class clown. It's a shelter just because he is so goofy and he's
- 5:41so fun and he does like to kind of chill and hang out and he's
- 5:45laid back in that sense. But he also likes to run around, and
- 5:49he likes to play, and he likes toys, and he really just likes
- 5:53people attention. He's a very very good dog. But he does prefer female
- 5:59dogs as his friends versus male dogs. So if you do have a male
- 6:04dog or something, we would probably recommend a meet and greet with your male
- 6:09dog and Cheetoh himself, but we also recommend a meet and greet just for
- 6:14really amy dog because it just shows better to as if they're going to get
- 6:19along with the dogs that you have or not. And we also will hold
- 6:25them on the leash while you have your dinner. Leash. We have a
- 6:27playyard where we do the whole introduction. But he is a very very good
- 6:30dog and he is very much looking for a home again, and he's about
- 6:34fifty fifty five pounds I believe at around five years old. Is that what
- 6:39you said? Yeah, well he's he's about four years old. About four
- 6:43years old? Okay, okay, then yeah, four to five. He
- 6:46is fixed and again his adoption fee is sponsored, so he is free to
- 6:51a good home. Any idea of what kind of dog Cheeto is, well,
- 6:57he looks like to be some type of bully or pity or something like
- 7:01that. So he definitely looks like he's got some of that. But he
- 7:09I couldn't tell you what else he would be because he just got that true
- 7:13like bully look too. He's a good looking dog. And again shafflire or
- 7:16something right. His pictures posted over on my Facebook page. If you'd like
- 7:19to go ahead and go over there and check it out. It's on Dave
- 7:23Island Radio and Facebook and the Dave Alan Show on x Let's I got to
- 7:29get this story on this because I was, you know, perusing your you're
- 7:30also Facebook pages I normally do before the show Valentine's Day. Hannah is here
- 7:35in a couple of weeks and you're doing something called doggie speed dating? Is
- 7:41that right? Yes? All right? What is doggye speed dating? I
- 7:45have to hear this story. So with doggie speed dating, it's basically this
- 7:50thing that we came up with which kind of is good for really anytime,
- 7:55but especially for around on Time's Day. So we made a form that you
- 8:01can fill out whenever you come up to the shelter if you're looking to adopt,
- 8:05or even if you're just wanting the foster, but if you're looking to
- 8:09adopt, then we have this form that you can fill out and you can
- 8:11write if you have any animals at home, what they're like, what you're
- 8:16looking for, you know, if you have any kids at home. And
- 8:22we kind of asked a bunch of questions on this questionnaire form to kind of
- 8:24learn more about you and your home lifestyle so that way we can better match
- 8:31you with one of the dogs that we know would probably be a good fit
- 8:35for you, and then you can take them out for just the day,
- 8:39or you can take them out for the weekend, or if you plan on
- 8:43just fostering and then you fall in love and become a foster fail, then
- 8:48of course we always always welcome the adoptions from this dog you speed dating event
- 8:54as well, and we're hoping that the event itself brings more people into to
- 9:01see some of these dogs and maybe foster them and then hopefully adopt them.
- 9:05Hopefully. So talking to Hannah Gardner again from the Canal Charsty, Maine Association
- 9:09with this week's Adopt Me, please put it the week, give it us
- 9:09some news about what's going on at there. The Dave Allen showing five Any
- 9:13Live is brought to you a part by Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury
- 9:16law firm. Hannah, did I read this right that in the past couple
- 9:18of days you all hat to shelter have taken in around fifty or so parvo
- 9:24patients. Yes, So we went to Mason County and begania shelter there and
- 9:35we retrieved I believe it was close to around forty dogs from just one single
- 9:41home. So when we brought them or when they got there, they tested
- 9:46them for parvo and because they were showing signs of some things, and then
- 9:50they were all positive. So when they brought them back, we just immediately
- 9:54took them into our care, brought them into our Parvo Dog Relation Unit,
- 10:01and we got treatment started on them. And they have been doing well as
- 10:05far as I've heard, So we are hoping that you know, they get
- 10:09past all the treatment and they get past parvo, because parvo is very very
- 10:13serious. Well, it's it's rough when you do that, but again it's
- 10:18it's miraculous with all some of the health issues and injuries that the different animals
- 10:22have that come through the shelter that you guys always do a great job and
- 10:24trying to nurse them back to health and get them in in homes and whatnot
- 10:30with loving families. Anything before we let you go, anything else going on
- 10:33up in the shelter this week, any I know you're always in need of
- 10:35blankets and foods and things of that nature, but anything in particular this week
- 10:39or any any events going on that you want to plug. No. I
- 10:45know that on our social media we're having the Love is Blind thing where we
- 10:50are posting a dog every day until Valentime's Day, and it's basically kind of
- 10:56like a you get to figure out like who the dog is and maybe even
- 11:00come foster them or something like that, along with our dog U skating.
- 11:03So other than that, puppy chow Purina chowel is really what we need,
- 11:07right though. All right, all right, Hannah, I appreciate you.
- 11:11We'll talk to you again next week. Thanks a lot, Thank you so
- 11:15much. Anna Gardner again from the Canal Charles DuMaine Association. Cheetoh is the
- 11:18dog's name, and again he is a repeat offender. He's been on the
- 11:22show before. We're trying to get a dog. I just don't understand when
- 11:24you take a look at this dog, how this dog has not been adopted
- 11:28yet. He came in as astray around four years old. I said five,
- 11:31but it's actually four years old. He is neutered, he is free,
- 11:37he's sponsored, so he's this free dog came in as astray. As
- 11:41I said, he does prefer female dogs and playful dogs. But they always
- 11:46ask for kind of a bit of a meat and greet when it comes to
- 11:50the pets, so bring it. It's not to say that he can't get
- 11:52along with male dogs. Just never know. Just do bring your dog up
- 11:56there and they can kind of hang out and you know, tell stories and
- 11:58whatever and see get along with each other. He does pull on his leash
- 12:01slightly, but Hannah tells me that that could be worked on with some training
- 12:05and some love. He loves attention, loves treats. Around fifty five pounds.
- 12:09Beautiful, beautiful dog and he is absolutely free. Cheeto is his name.
- 12:13Four year old male newter Go Get this dog. He has pictures posted

- 16:32thanks for having me on, Thank you for being here. Give us
- 16:33the background on yourself, sir. Who is Matt Harridge? And am I
- 16:37pronouncing the name right? Herridge? Absolutely right? Well done. Sometimes that's
- 16:42an easy one to mix up, but yeah, click also on myself.
- 16:48I was just listening to your intro there at doctor Jordan Peterson. I also
- 16:53am a clinical psychologist. I spent ten years in the field. I worked
- 16:59at Charleston Harriet Medical Center for ten years and I also served on the clinical
- 17:03faculty and really enjoyed that work. But about two thousand and five I decided
- 17:08to get into the business world and went into the restaurant industry and I went
- 17:14into Burger King Restaurants and also now owned Qudoba Mexican E. Those are yeah,
- 17:22I think we've got some of those, both of those of course there
- 17:25across the state. But for about I guess it's now been since till May
- 17:32of last year, I was the chairman for the government relations committee for Burger
- 17:37King, and so I spent a lot of energy, and I spent a
- 17:41lot of efforts and time in DC with our congressman and women, with our
- 17:47senators, and not just West Virginia but across the nation. And it helped
- 17:51also run a relatively large pack and so we were very supportive of small business
- 17:56friendly representatives and restaurant industry representatives and anyway it was. It was a great
- 18:03experience. I really enjoyed it. I've always been involved in politics at one
- 18:07level or another, actively supporting, you know, conservative representatives, but also
- 18:15just i'd like the right. So I'm one of those guys who likes to
- 18:19write in op eds to the paper and likes to speak on conservative values and
- 18:26things like that. So it just seemed like the right time. After selling
- 18:30my burger king business last May and my my schedule agenda changed a little bit,
- 18:37and I thought this is a time to give back and put some more
- 18:40energy into our state. Matt Harry gie again as well as he is the
- 18:42state Republican party chair, newly named to that position last Saturday at at the
- 18:48meetings in Charleston. So, Matt, the Republicans have a super majority now
- 18:52and pretty much what they say goes into the Dome. But that doesn't come
- 18:56without problems, as you know. And at the winter meeting this past can
- 19:00I wasn't there, but I hear stories there were some shall we say,
- 19:03disagreements, which is not a bad thing. It's not always it's not a
- 19:07bad thing. You know, you need to have and I'm sure the Democrats
- 19:10did too when they were in charge. You know, you need to have
- 19:11some discussion as long as it's all civil, and I understand that it was.
- 19:15But one of the disagreements had to do with the closing the primary to
- 19:18independence. Some wanted it right away, some didn't want it at all,
- 19:22others wanted to put off a year or two. In the end, it
- 19:23was decided that the Republican primary would indeed be closed, but not till the
- 19:27year twenty twenty six. Your your thoughts on that decision, Yeah, that's
- 19:33a I think you framed it very well. You know, this is a
- 19:37this is a very big decision, but it's also a tough decision, and
- 19:41that there are good arguments on either side on this primary issue, and it
- 19:45was a vigorous debate. But you know, this is to your point,
- 19:48this is what happens when and it's a good thing. When a state becomes
- 19:52a super majority state like we are, there are different different viewpoints are going
- 20:00to evolve, and that kind of I call it iron sharpening iron It's just
- 20:06I think a good thing for any party. But you know, my feeling
- 20:08is that we came to the right place, We came to a consensus.
- 20:12We democracy did its thing. This was on my mind, I would call
- 20:17it a compromise. We are going to close in twenty twenty six and not
- 20:22not cause any real big challenges at twenty twenty four. But I think as
- 20:27we move ahead, we're just My goal now as party chairman is really to
- 20:33make the case to all West Virginians that they need to consider the Republican Party
- 20:37if they're not a member yet. Okay, well, there was a lot
- 20:41of people, you know, Like I said, it kind of went back
- 20:44and forth between I think I think putting it off to twenty twenty six in
- 20:48my opinion, not that anybody asked my opinion, I think was the was
- 20:52the right If you're going to do it, I think, you know,
- 20:53because there's an education factor that goes in and plus as my time, you
- 20:57know, I spent working with the Secretary of States of also realize the hard
- 21:00work that our county clerks do, and that's what it would be a pretty
- 21:03big lift in my opinion, not that they couldn't do it, because they
- 21:06always do what they're asked, but I think it would been a pretty big
- 21:08lift to get that in time for the primary. Matt, I've said it
- 21:12before. There is no way short of a miracle that it's not a banner
- 21:17year again for Republicans in West Virginia. You have the leading contendent for governor,
- 21:22with all due respect to Honey, to Mayor Steve Williams, who I
- 21:23think is a good guy and a good mayor. More likely, more than
- 21:26likely, the next Canada or the next governor is going to be a Republican,
- 21:30whether it's Morrissey, Warner Miller, Capitol, one of those same with
- 21:33the Board of Public Works, most House and Senate races, probably down right
- 21:37down to the county races. You know, these are truly historic times for
- 21:42Republicans in the state of West Virginia. Matt, Yes, absolutely, you
- 21:47know. We are quite a story. I mean, I'm actually right now
- 21:49in Las Vegas at the RNC winner meeting. This is my first experience to
- 21:55join this group and get involved a little more at the national level. And
- 22:00I'll tell you, West Virginia is one of the centers of conversation here.
- 22:04What has happened in our state over the past decade is relatively unprecedented in the
- 22:08US and it is just a testament, I think, to what we stand
- 22:14for in West Virginia. Faith, family, freedom. I think, folks,
- 22:18really that message resonates with West Virginians. And I can't tell you how
- 22:25I'm incited for the next for this election cycle. So what message do you
- 22:30have for the Republicans now instead of West Virginia, Because Matt, here's the
- 22:33thing about it is, as I said, West Virginia was ruled by Democrats
- 22:36for eighty eighty three years something like that, and now it is ruled by
- 22:41Republicans. But doesn't mean it's always going to be ruled by Republicans. That
- 22:45seems to be the mindset of West Virginia right now, but that can change
- 22:51and no one wants to get complacent. So I'll let you close out with
- 22:55that. What is your message now for Republicans in the state of West Virginia,
- 22:57Matt Well, I think we kind of, you know, talked to
- 23:02around us at this point. But you're the issue for Republicans is we can't
- 23:07number one, we can't play defense. We have got to act like we
- 23:11still are minority party. We've got to aggressively campaign. We've got to again
- 23:15push our message out there, share it with folks. I think it really
- 23:18does resonate. But the other thing is we have all, as we like
- 23:22to say, can't we all just get along? We've got to start looking
- 23:26at who the real challenge is, who's creating the challenges for this country,
- 23:30and that is the Democratic Party. I mean, we're seeing the tax on
- 23:36free speech, We're seeing weaponization of the FBI, of the IRS. We
- 23:41have got to remember that there is an enemy, so to speak, or
- 23:45a challenge out there that we need to put our attention on and not each
- 23:48other. And I think we can accomplish that. I think we saw it
- 23:51last weekend as people came to compromise and consensus, and I'm convinced we'll continue
- 23:56to do so. Matt Ridge again, is the new State Republican Party Chair.
- 24:02Matt A pleasure to have you on the show. We'll have you on

- 25:30Wonderful Classic. Greig had a great time hanging out there, hoping to
- 25:33do it again, real student. And Steve is feeling better. He is
- 25:36back in the building again. Greg Thomas is also in the building. How
- 25:40are you Are you the only one in the world. It's not sick right
- 25:41now. I was very sick like last week, okay, and so last
- 25:47week I probably would not Actually I did a couple of radio interviews early in
- 25:51the week that I had already scheduled, and I sounded terrible, not that
- 25:56I always sound great, but like, I think you were happy one day
- 26:00light. Yeah, I was unhappy on Monday. It was I saved up,
- 26:03like my voice all like, I didn't like talk all morning until I
- 26:06did it, and then I had another radio interviewed late afternoon. So I
- 26:10uh, I wasn't I wasn't feeling great, but I did them. There's
- 26:15a lot of people, I mean, I think Animal and we were well,
- 26:17everybody was wanted to talk about the closing the primary, right, yeah,
- 26:19and we're going to talk about that. I think Animal just had a
- 26:22sinus infection, so hopefully he's he's back as good as he can get.
- 26:26He's he's purified though, so he didn't have anything to worry about. Uh.
- 26:29We'll get to the closing the primaries here in a couple moments, but
- 26:32I want to ask you about this. The filing period GREG ended last Saturday
- 26:34night slash Sunday morning. Any any surprises from you. People who filed that
- 26:41you didn't think would, they filed for a different office. Many people that
- 26:45you thought were going to file that didn't know. I mean it was pretty
- 26:48uh, I mean I knew I mean, I guess I knew about more
- 26:52than most did, but uh no, I think it's pretty much who you
- 26:57would have thought. I mean, you did have a lot of you know,
- 27:00House of Delegates and stuff like that. You still get a lot of
- 27:03people that filed last minute, you know what I mean, and you know
- 27:06people that kind of go along and think, oh, I don't have an
- 27:07opponent at all. One of the things that I you know, I don't
- 27:11know we now that we are this like Superman, you know, beyond,
- 27:15I don't know what the next level of you know, I've been calling it
- 27:18mega majority. I don't know what the next level up, which was where
- 27:22we'll get to after this elect work. I've copyrighted super duper majority. We
- 27:26have mega majority. I don't know what I thought we I feel like we're
- 27:29the mega majority. And then I don't know what the next one is.
- 27:32I've been I've been thinking about it, but I haven't come up with something
- 27:34yet. But uh, you know, look, this is it's healthy though,
- 27:38right, I mean, you know a lot of the they complain it's
- 27:41like, oh I got an opponent. It's like, well, you know,
- 27:42because you don't have it. You know, you're you're gonna have an
- 27:45opponent. It's just going to be Is it going to be in the primary,
- 27:48is it going to be in the fall? Some people have both.
- 27:51But I think we have a lot of really good UH State Senate candidates.
- 27:56We have a lot. I think I think the crop of to get candidates
- 28:00is better than it has been in a few years. You know, I
- 28:06would have liked to have seen probably some more circuit you know, we are
- 28:10going to have some competitive circuit court races, more than what we've ever had.
- 28:12I kind of wish we had maybe a little bit more than that,
- 28:18you know, But look, I think, you know, there's going to
- 28:21be it's going to be a very very competitive primary on the Republican side.
- 28:25I think you're going to have I don't know if it's like record Republican turnout
- 28:29or anything. It probably just will be. Given that the given that the
- 28:32you know, registration so much higher than what it used to be, and
- 28:36then as you talked about earlier, the you know, unaffiliated voters will still
- 28:40be able to participate in the Republican primary this year. How do you feel
- 28:44What was your take on that. I think they made the right decision.
- 28:48Do you think it'll stand because I've had a lot of people on the inside
- 28:52have said, well, they put it off to twenty twenty six because the
- 28:56legislature could get involved in some things. I mean, the parties could pretty
- 28:59much make up their own rules. They can, but there is some legislative
- 29:02Secretary of State oversight. It has to be a part of it. I've
- 29:04heard I've heard people say Greg that they put it off to twenty twenty six,
- 29:10and it's not gonna happen in twenty twenty six either, because it's like
- 29:12you are going to change between now. Yeah, I feel like it's a
- 29:15goal. I'm not against closing the primary. I think it's a goal that
- 29:19you strive for. I mean, to me, I don't know how you
- 29:22close the primary if you don't have fifty percent of the electorate, right,
- 29:26Because it's like, all right, you know, I mean, I've just
- 29:30run so many campaigns over the last twenty years where we were very reliant upon
- 29:36conservative Democrats and unaffiliated voters to vote for us to become the majority party,
- 29:41and a lot of those conservative Democrats have since switched to become unaffiliated, you
- 29:47know. You know, So there's about fifty thousand unaffiliated voters that regularly participate
- 29:52in Republican primaries. And to me, you know, you brought up the
- 29:56word education earlier with respect to this issue. I think that's I think the
- 30:02biggest part of it is, you know, the Republicans still have to be
- 30:04in a position to win in the fall, regardless of who the candidates are.
- 30:10The other thing is is, you know, you have to have an
- 30:11education effort to these unaffiliated voters to make sure they know right, I mean
- 30:18you, I mean, what a disaster would it be to have a bunch
- 30:21of unaffiliated voters show up to vote for Donald Trump and they're not allowed exactly?
- 30:25That would have been it. And that's what I said earlier this week.
- 30:27And here's the thing. If somebody goes into a polling place and they
- 30:32find out they're an unaffiliated voter and they can't vote for whomever, and and
- 30:36it's and I'll just use Trump as an example, because that's the one they
- 30:37all want to vote for. So if they go in and they can't vote,
- 30:41are they gonna blame well, are they going to say, well,
- 30:44dang those Republicans that No, they're gonna they're gonna blame eighty eight year old
- 30:48uh Mabel there that's the pollwark, that's what's gonna happen, they would at
- 30:52the time, and that was the point that was brought up. I know
- 30:55Senate President Blair, you know, he was one of the ones that was
- 30:57really that helped orchestrate this compromise, and that was a big point of his
- 31:02was exactly that he was like, man, but do you know, you
- 31:03guys are putting a lot of pressure on some pollwork and you can't get You
- 31:07have a hard time getting poll workers now anyway, you know, and it'd
- 31:11been tough. And so look, I think I think if the to me
- 31:14to I mean, I'm I could see it happening in twenty six, but
- 31:18I think they really have to as soon as this primary is over. I
- 31:22think they've got to start educating. I think there has to be a voter
- 31:26registration drive to these unaffiliated voters to try to get them a switch, you
- 31:29know what I mean. I think there's got to be you know, I
- 31:32don't know if it's a mailer, I don't know if it's going door to
- 31:33door, I don't know if it's calling these people. I think I think
- 31:37the Republican the local county Republican parties need to have like open houses where they
- 31:41invite the unaffiliated voters in come talk to you know what I mean, there's
- 31:45got to be there's got to be a series of things, a real campaign,
- 31:48if you will, to to try to get unaffiliated voters to become part
- 31:52of the party. So look, I think if that's the case, I
- 31:56don't you know, Look, we're going to be a Republican majority party for
- 32:00a while in West Virginia. It's just, you know, what's the best
- 32:04way of going about it? You know. Look, I think the other
- 32:07aspect of this that that I know insiders are talking about was, you know,
- 32:10Patrick Morrissey was really leading the charge on that to close it. You
- 32:14know, he really thought that was going to help him for some reason,
- 32:16and it might have. But the fact that you know, he's sort of
- 32:21like campaigns on saying oh I've got this, you know, conservative grassroots network.
- 32:25I mean, if he can't get fifty percent of the state Executive Committee
- 32:30to support him, I think that was a real showing to me of you
- 32:36know, I think he's a lot. I think he's in a weaker position
- 32:37than what he's letting on. I think internally he knows that and he's been
- 32:43saying that. But you know, I think the fact that that campaign couldn't
- 32:46get that done really shows that they just don't have the command of the grassroots
- 32:52like like they say they do. And so so we'll see how that goes.
- 32:59What's speaking of which, fund me jump in here real quickly, because
- 33:01I do know that you have been on the show in the past, and
- 33:04you've had less than I don't say less than nice things. You haven't been
- 33:07You haven't given your glowing approval of Patrick Morrissey in a pastor is a text
- 33:10about that. It says, waiting to hear Greg trash Patrick Morrissey to help
- 33:15his candidate for governor. You said you don't have a candidate. I don't.
- 33:17I don't have anybody but Morsey is my candidate for governor. So I
- 33:22don't have a specifician. Again, let's specify that. What he's saying is
- 33:27you will vote for anybody except for Patrick Morrison. Yeah, no, I
- 33:30don't. I'm not working on any of the gubernatorial campaigns. And you know,
- 33:35so I think that's part of you know, and I think that's a
- 33:40I think that is a sentiment out there. Now. The flip side of
- 33:43that, though, right is somebody does have to become you know, some
- 33:45one of these other campaigns is going to have to get the momentum. I
- 33:49mean Morsey's you know, look Morsey's name. Might he's like ninety percent,
- 33:52but right now he's polling at like twenty five percent, which means there's a
- 33:55whole bunch of people that know of him that aren't supporting him, but right
- 33:59now they're also not supporting anybody else, right, So one of these other
- 34:01campaigns is going to have to to have to catch fire. So who has
- 34:06if people do back away for Morrissey and then we'll do this and we'll go
- 34:08to break, who has the most to gain? Would it be? I
- 34:12would think that politically, if you look at their stances on things, I
- 34:15would think he's probably more closely aligned with make Warner. As far as I
- 34:20don't know, if I don't get the people, I don't know if the
- 34:22people, I don't think anybody's going to back off. I mean Morsey has
- 34:24a floor, right, I mean, I don't think people are going to
- 34:27back off of him from where he is. I just think there's a whole
- 34:30bunch of people now that know him that aren't supporting him as of right now,
- 34:35right, So that leaves all of the other candidates as potential votes.
- 34:37So those guys are in the onus is on them to get those people to
- 34:42support them and not Morrissey. So I think that they That's what's going to
- 34:45happen over the next couple of months, right, is those people are going
- 34:49to have a chance to go get this other seventy five percent. But if
- 34:52they don't make their case, if they don't run effective campaigns, if nobody
- 34:55really catches fire, then some of those people are probably just going to go
- 35:00with Morsey because they do know him or they know of him. Right,
- 35:02So look, I still look, you know Morsey is still the front runner
- 35:07of that race today, but you know there is definitely a path for victory
- 35:14for you know, a couple of the other campaigns. But you know,
- 35:17they're gonna have to get the momentum going. You know, they're gonna they're
- 35:21gonna have to really start getting their message out there. Texas close and we'll
- 35:22do this, and I promise we'll go to break. Closing the primary,
- 35:25says a texture would harm Gregg's more moderate candidate according to RESA polls. That's
- 35:29why you're against it for anybody to think that I'm more moderate is silly,
- 35:36given that you know, I mean, Morrisey has a ton, a ton
- 35:39ton of big government liberal positions. So I think that's a sort of an
- 35:44outrageous thing to say, all right, we're gonna take a break. We'll
- 35:45be back right after this. Todave Allen showing five Ady Live broad to you

- 38:15has to say, but I gotta say if you don't have a candidate then
- 38:17why do you think it's okay to trash Moris seed just because you don't like
- 38:21it. I mean, it's it's a it's a primary, like, it's
- 38:24a debate, it's a it's a this is a talk radio show. We're
- 38:28just talking like, I don't know. I mean, I don't have a
- 38:31like, I don't know. You know, when you when you do this
- 38:34for a living like I do, and you usually you know, you work
- 38:37for a candidate, or you work for a cause or an organization or whatever,
- 38:39you come on there and do it. But you know, I feel
- 38:42like you're you know, you're just asking me, like, hey, what
- 38:44do you think of this stuff? I mean, and you don't care to
- 38:46tell us no. I mean, I look, I think that's been a
- 38:50hallmark of sort of why I've been successful. Was you know, I've been
- 38:54a you know, a conservative in West Virginia, running conservative campaigns since two
- 39:00thousand and two. You know, I didn't move here from New Jersey.
- 39:02I don't come and just repeat Fox News talking points like. I've been in
- 39:07the trenches doing this stuff, trying to promote the conservative cause and agenda,
- 39:12been part of more election wins than anybody else in the state. And you
- 39:17know, when you have somebody come along that's just sort of this interloper that's,
- 39:22you know, totally focused on themselves that has no regard for the party
- 39:24or the Conservative Cause. I am going to speak out and I am going
- 39:29to say, look, I don't I don't think this is the right person.
- 39:30And you know, I just I have a lot more invested in the
- 39:34Conservative Cause than you know, a couple of out of state candidates that come
- 39:37in and you know, want to change the rules so that you know,
- 39:42you know, so that they can try to win one election for themselves.
- 39:45I mean, this, this, this cause. This party has never been
- 39:49about one consultant or one candidate or one issue or whatever. I mean,
- 39:52that's not how we got here, you know, and these people, and
- 39:55I struggle with this all the time, Dave. I mean, you know,
- 39:58we we have all these new people the party that have no history of
- 40:00it. You know, they don't. They weren't here in two thousand and
- 40:05four, you know, they weren't here. They heck, they weren't even
- 40:07here in twenty ten, you know what I mean, out here trying to
- 40:10help us win races and stuff. And so you know that that's why I
- 40:15fight for, you know, sort of the That's why, That's why I
- 40:19do feel like I'm in a position to say, hey, I don't have
- 40:21to go out here and say, hey, everybody vote for this one person.
- 40:22I can say, hey, look, here's the person that I don't
- 40:24think aligns with the values of the core conservative. And you don't think that
- 40:30Patrick Morrissey, because that would come to a shock as a shock to a
- 40:32lot of people, including mister Morrissey himself. You you're so I don't think
- 40:36there No, No, I think Patrick morvative. No. I think I
- 40:38think he is transactional. I think he looks at it and I think he
- 40:42sees what everybody's talking on Fox News, and then he tries to figure out
- 40:45if he can, you know, if he can just puppet that message locally
- 40:51or find a way to get like the you know. And this is what
- 40:53happens in DC. I mean, he's just he's a DC person, right,
- 40:55I mean he came out. I mean he's from New Jersey, but
- 40:58he lived in d C. And he was a lobbyist and everything over there,
- 41:00and like that's what those people try to do, right, It's like
- 41:04the message of the day there is there's no like, there's no like conservative
- 41:07agenda. There's no like, hey, here's here's ten things we've been working
- 41:12on for a decade that we've got to go do. It's just, hey,
- 41:15what's the what's the national issue that I can you know, go and
- 41:20do for the day or you know, you know, he goes out there
- 41:23and hires outside council and sues all kinds of businesses all over the place,
- 41:27which isn't very conservative. You know, he gave one hundred and forty one
- 41:30million dollars to Democrat personal injury lawyers. That's not conservative, man, Like,
- 41:35there's no version of giving one hundred and forty one million dollars and overall,
- 41:38I mean over the course of this thing. And you know, my
- 41:42client, the organization that I've worked for for a long time, West Virginia
- 41:45Citizens Against Lwsuit Abuse, just recently put out a report that showed that it's
- 41:50not just that one hundred and forty one million dollars. I mean, he's
- 41:52given out nearly a quarter of he's overseen almost a quarter of a billion dollars
- 41:57that's gone to Democrat personal injury lawyers. And you know, I just that's
- 42:01not conservative, man. It just isn't conservative. And because you go out
- 42:05and you know, join some national lawsuit that you know twenty other Republican ags
- 42:09have joined, you know, because you saw somebody on Fox News talking about
- 42:14it, doesn't mean you're a conservative. It just doesn't. And the and
- 42:15the and the governor is an executive role. I mean, this is an
- 42:21executive position, Like we need to hire somebody who has executive experience, not
- 42:24just and that and that's he doesn't, you know, he just doesn't.
- 42:28I mean, being a being a pharmaceutical lobbyist doesn't, you know, doesn't
- 42:31make it, you know. And then going out and hiring, you know,
- 42:35giving out a quarter of a billion dollars to Democrat person or injury lawyers,
- 42:37to me, isn't a great resume to become the governor of West Virginia.
- 42:40I mean, I got some text or text says, ah, yes,
- 42:43I'm eagerly signing up for the Republican Party. Who thinks Joe Biden intentionally
- 42:46shut down the West Virginia Wildlife Center to punish West Virginians for who knows reference
- 42:52to French Greek Freddy there but Joe Manchin say French Creek Freddy. Uh Texas,
- 42:57please give Greg Thomas my best wishes on Republican strategy of declaring a holy
- 43:00war on Taylor Swift. It's fitting the Republican religious zealots would declare jihad against
- 43:05a woman urging people register to vote. Did you say anything about about Taylor?
- 43:10I don't. I don't come on here and talk. I don't.
- 43:13Ever, I'd literally come on and say I don't want to talk about the
- 43:15Fox News docking poicte in the face like there you go, like that's that's
- 43:17that's that's why. And you know, look, Matt Harriet, who I
- 43:20think is going to be a very good state Republican Party chair. I mean,
- 43:22I think this guy with a great business background. I'm really excited about
- 43:27what I think he's going to be able to do there. Uh, but
- 43:30you know, you asked him a question of like, Okay, what do
- 43:31the Republicans do now? What our Republicans need to do is to continue to
- 43:36have and we've had we have passed the most conservative legislative agenda in the country
- 43:42over the last eight years. Uh. We need to continue to do that,
- 43:45you know. And in the in the chasing down the Fox News talking
- 43:49point of the day, whether it's look, I agree with those people.
- 43:52I'm not. I mean, I don't. I don't. I don't watch.
- 43:53I don't watch, you know. I mean I've seen some of these
- 43:57you know, football games and Taylors who cares man Like, I don't care
- 44:00about that, Like like if that was really something that our legislative leadership was
- 44:04like focused on every day, Okay, but like the fact that a whole
- 44:07bunch of people are saying it on Facebook. I mean that that's the problem
- 44:09with I think some of these other politicians that come along that, like,
- 44:13you don't chase what you see on Facebook, you put together a conser thing
- 44:16Republicans can do, in my opinion, is to turn off Fox News.
- 44:19That would be the best thing Republican because it's because it's crap. I mean,
- 44:22it really is, in my opinion, that's my opinion. It's it's
- 44:25it's a lagging indicator, not like not a not a you know, forward
- 44:31thinking conservativeation. All right, I did get a text. I want to
- 44:35get this in and we've got to get to break the text, says as
- 44:37A. Says Greg as an independent who leans conservative and always votes Republican.
- 44:42I'm disappointed that the legislature seems to focus so much on social issues. Do
- 44:46you have an opinion on that? Look, I think the legislature is a
- 44:51representative body of the state, and I think there are a lot of people
- 44:53in West Virginia that are focused on social issues, and so I don't I
- 44:59don't mind the the look. I'm a I'm a social conservative too. I
- 45:02like to see some of those things addressed. But I do think that there
- 45:07there are certain uh like our House Judiciary Committee, that's all they ever talk
- 45:12about, right, Like, all they ever talk about is trying to trying
- 45:15to find ways to sue people because they are all a bunch of trial lawyers.
- 45:16And then the other half of the group is, you know, really
- 45:20really focused on the social issues. Uh. I think that we're gonna have
- 45:23far for our party to continue to grow and to continue to have the success
- 45:27that we've had. Uh, it's got to be diversified, right, It's
- 45:30got to be how do we create jobs, how do we improve education,
- 45:34how do we you know, how do we improve health care in the state,
- 45:38and and and look, family values has to be a part of that.
- 45:42Uh. But this just I think what they're getting at is like sometimes
- 45:46these guys are just trying to be punitive, right that being punitive is not
- 45:52a way to build the party, right, Like, we have to figure
- 45:54out ways to add people to the party. We have to figure out ways
- 45:58to get this unaffiliated voter that just sent a text in to to say,
- 46:01you know what, that's the kind of agenda I want to see. That's
- 46:05the kind of party I want to belong to and have that, you know,
- 46:07do things that are caret to bring that person into the party. But

- 48:52I talked about this on the show yesterday. City Council in Charleston set to
- 48:54meet again Monday evening, and I'm told there's going to be a large presence
- 48:59of people there again asking for the Mayor and Council to issue a proclamation asking
- 49:04for a ceasefire situation in Israel. They're hitting, hitting the emails, they're
- 49:09hitting the council people, pressuring council. I talked to one council person the
- 49:14other night who said he's gotten countless emails from people he doesn't recognize from you
- 49:16know, not in his district, not in his ward, for people asking
- 49:21them to do this. They're setting up a phone bank to flood phones.
- 49:28I understand tonight, you're taking this whole thing. Look, they should have.
- 49:31I mean, obviously it's an outrageous thing to think that the City Council
- 49:36of Charleston has anty any influence whatsoever about what's going on in Israel. And
- 49:43so look, I mean there's a part of me right that's like sympathetic that
- 49:47they're, you know, getting all of this negative attention on it. But
- 49:52they also brought it on themselves by like waiting into this pool to begin with.
- 49:54I mean, they you know, they put out some like Mamby Pamby,
- 49:59you know, you know, know, you know, you know,
- 50:01you know, we hope both sides win type letter, you know what I
- 50:05mean, to get this thing started. And once you open up that that
- 50:08sort of box man and then all of a sudden. You know, you're
- 50:10going to get these you know, very extreme you know, very extreme activists
- 50:17to get motivated on on, you know, getting engaged in this. I
- 50:21mean, I I don't have any idea in the world why the Charleston City
- 50:27Council would be addressing this issue to any degree. Ever. Fixed potholes,
- 50:31yeah, I mean, yeahs fire protections, stay the hell out of everything
- 50:35else. I mean, that's what I mean, That's what I'm saying about,
- 50:37you know, the what we were talking before about the West Virginia Legislature.
- 50:39I mean, as long as they're doing a good job and they're passing
- 50:42this agenda and they're moving things forward, they're going to be okay. But
- 50:45the city council, I mean, if they're not going to actually get stuff
- 50:47done, and this is the kind of stuff they're going to spend their time
- 50:50on and back and forth, you know, you know, I'd hate to
- 50:54see what the next election is going to look like. All right, But
- 50:55Dave Allen Schow is brought to part by a Bridge Valley. Bridge Valley Community
- 51:00Technical collect says some conservatives, So I'm sorry, social conservative is a synonym
- 51:06for government all up in your private life. I I I don't think that's
- 51:09always the case, but I do think it's sometimes the case. I think
- 51:14that sometimes that wing of the party gets a little uh uh, gets a
- 51:19little theocratic and and gets a little down in there. So I mean,
- 51:22I look, I I do think that the far left sort of like they
- 51:25stay on attack with some of those you know, the trans issues and some
- 51:30of those real extreme things, and so it kind of puts the Republicans on
- 51:34defensive there. But then, you know, we sort of have our you
- 51:37know, extreme wing of the party that that goes down that road a little
- 51:40bit too much too. So I you know, some of our you know,
- 51:44people that say they're farthest to the right tend to be the ones that
- 51:46are you know, you know a little bit, a little bit bigger government
- 51:51than what they think they are in their heads. All right, Well,
- 51:52Greg, don't don't spend so much time away. Because I had about twenty
