- 0:33We'll get the price. NBA prices.
- 0:36See, NBA betting is way down overall in the country in two
- 0:40thousand 2425 season. Not sure what's behind it, maybe
- 0:45it's just the game isn't as appealing as it once was.
- 0:48So we'll talk to Mike Palm about a variety of things when he
- 0:52joins us in 25 minutes. We'll give 4 of you an
- 0:55opportunity to win some grub from the chicken coop that comes

- 1:43Trent will make his picks, circus sports sponsor those, and
- 1:47we'll make way for the drive coming up here from 2:00 until
- 1:505:00. Hello, Trent Condon, how are
- 1:52you? I'm.
- 1:53Doing well? How about yourself?
- 1:54Good. Ready for the weekend?
- 1:56I can tell. I am.
- 1:57I am. I'm grateful that the NFL and
- 1:59the NFL, the NHL in their infinite wisdom, had the
- 2:03wherewithal and the fortitude, I guess to to change the start
- 2:09date of their of their Stanley Cup Final.
- 2:12Apparently, and it was unknown to me, had the had it ended last
- 2:17night, which it did. They had in place an agreement
- 2:20to move it up three days. So we won't have to wait until
- 2:23Sunday for the NHL. We may have the NBA, we will
- 2:27have the NBA tomorrow, but that might be it until Thursday
- 2:31depending on if the Knicks are able to win there.
- 2:33So well done. We'll get the rematch of last
- 2:35year's Stanley Cup Final, which was unbelievable.
- 2:37Went seven games after Florida started the series up three to
- 2:42nothing, the Oilers game roaring back, and then the Game 7 was a
- 2:4621 affair. So a pretty good series.
- 2:48And I think the best two teams in hockey are probably, I have
- 2:51no problem with the two that are playing Florida, certainly in
- 2:54the East and Connor McDavid and company who representing the
- 2:57West once again. And that should be a very good
- 3:00theater if you're a hockey fan. If we get a Game 7 again, it
- 3:03will be on Friday, June 20th. 20th of June. 20th of June, I
- 3:09don't know what. That's the day I start my fit,
- 3:12my weekend vacation. You going to be on the road at
- 3:16that time. Well, no, but I'm not supposed
- 3:18to be watching any sports that weekend.
- 3:24Oh, that's great. No, it's not.
- 3:26That is hilarious. I.
- 3:26Got to break a promise. Oh no, it's hockey.
- 3:29Man. I hope she wants.
- 3:30We'll see. Game seven, I mean, it's three
- 3:33hours of your time, right? That's.
- 3:34Not a big ass, I'll be spending the whole day with her and.
- 3:37Jeff yes. We're going over to some she
- 3:40found some vorbo on the Iowa, Illinois.
- 3:42The what is it Galena? She likes Galena.
- 3:45It's a beautiful place. It is.
- 3:46Been there once with her had a ball.
- 3:48So we're going back. I got it set up now I this just
- 3:52talked to my head games all right you do your antiquing, you
- 3:55do all the things got to sneak off got to go meet up with mark
- 4:00warhouse Well. That's for a couple reasons.
- 4:03Absolutely. He's also a hockey guy on top.
- 4:06Huge hockey guy. I mean, there it is.
- 4:08There's your built in. This is not you can make this
- 4:11happen and you're just working actually a little bit because we
- 4:14got to find out a time this summer.
- 4:15We're going to have Morehouse on to reminisce a little bit.
- 4:19That's. A great idea though, by the way,
- 4:20whether? Absolutely.
- 4:22Look at these ideas coming out. The Game 7 caper bits, actually,
- 4:26we can be able to pull that off or not, but I'd like to have
- 4:28Morehouse on just to reminisce a little bit.
- 4:30Can you? It's a good idea.
- 4:31Can you tell that I've had to maybe go the same route that
- 4:33you're going, coming up with an excuse?
- 4:35Sorry, how we going to work this one in all right?
- 4:367 And I've What was I thinking? I guess I didn't look at the
- 4:40calendar. Anyways, so that's a me problem,
- 4:42not a you problem. We'll get back to you.
- 4:44Because it's your radio show. So we got to start with the NBA.
- 4:48Yeah. And the job that the Knicks did
- 4:52on Tyrese Halliburton last night, I don't know if they can
- 4:56duplicate that performance. I mean, they gave him 0 space.
- 4:59They, they were as handsy as handsy could be.
- 5:02And they were getting away with it all night long.
- 5:05And you know, Halliburton just, they completely took him out of
- 5:09his game and is becoming very apparent.
- 5:11Yes, Yakim's a nice player and yes, they've got some other nice
- 5:13pieces, but is Halliburton go so go the Pacers.
- 5:16Fair. Oh, absolutely.
- 5:18And certainly in a road environment like that, that they
- 5:19had him, he had to play great and he didn't, They, like you
- 5:23said, really handsy, super physical with him.
- 5:26And I don't think you can replicate that every game
- 5:28because officials are not going to allow you to do that every
- 5:30game. And.
- 5:31It was different guys. I mean, they they threw the
- 5:34kitchen sink at him. The weird thing though, there
- 5:37were in probably 3 or 4 different instances where it
- 5:41looked like Halliburton, he turned the corner, he had a step
- 5:44and then he was just looking for that pass.
- 5:45And I know that's a huge part of his game, but when you're having
- 5:49those opportunities, when it's not going well, that's the time
- 5:52that you need to see Halliburton be a little bit more.
- 5:54Self, did he score in the first half?
- 5:56I don't think he did, no. I don't think he did finish with
- 5:58eight. If he had, if he if he scored in
- 6:00the first half, it was a bucket. And I don't think he did finish
- 6:03with six assists, no turnovers again, again, as that has become
- 6:09his calling card. But you know, hats off to the
- 6:11hats off to the Knicks. Karl Anthony Towns, who was
- 6:13questionable all game long by the interview with the inside
- 6:17the NBA crew was phenomenal. Barclay asked him, you know,
- 6:21telling him, you know, why do you have such stupid fouls, man?
- 6:24And it's it's a great question because it's it's a talking
- 6:27point we that that lives another day that that crew as far as the
- 6:34TNT version is going to. Obviously, once they're once the
- 6:39Eastern Conference far the Eastern Conference final is
- 6:42settled, they go away because and it's such a night and day
- 6:47broadcast really both sports. The certainly the studio panel
- 6:52in the in hockey, not even close to what TNT puts out and it's
- 6:57night and day in basketball. I mean, it's just it's, it's,
- 7:01it's so apparent if you watch the two of them, you know, one
- 7:05night you watch the ESPN, the next night you watch TNTTNT is
- 7:09just it's, it's miles better, Trent and I.
- 7:12Wonder next year when they're on ESPN and.
- 7:16Or, but you know what they said, you know what Jack said, or
- 7:19whatever network we're on. Is that just twisting the knife
- 7:23'cause I thought it was a done deal?
- 7:25I believe it is. I think it is too.
- 7:26I believe Sheck's the one that still does not have a contract
- 7:29though. I think that well.
- 7:31They're not going without him. Jet signed, Chuck signed and
- 7:35those are the, I mean, Sheck came along later, what, 5-6,
- 7:39seven years? Later and Ernie.
- 7:40Before he was aboard, yeah. Those three, though, are the
- 7:43originators of all this. And they?
- 7:45Called themselves the Four Horsemen a lot last night.
- 7:49I thought it was a done deal. I did, too.
- 7:50I mean, it's because they're still under contract and it's
- 7:53been siphoned off to ESPN. And Barclays made it very clear,
- 7:56look, I'm not doing any of the ESPN shows.
- 7:59He says that now you. Know he does, but it's they're
- 8:03they're so much better and the hockey's just I mean I like Marc
- 8:06Messier the player he's awful. PK Subban, bizonet and and
- 8:12company are just so much better over on TNTI think the the and
- 8:17and the broadcast trio crew as well.
- 8:20Kevin Hart is phenomenal. MM hmm.
- 8:22Reggie Miller's great. The ESPN crew, Jefferson.
- 8:28Doesn't do it for you, huh, Burke?
- 8:30What's the play by play guy's name?
- 8:31He's from Mike Breen. Mike Breen been doing a.
- 8:33Long time doing a long time. He's OK, but the I, I I think
- 8:38that Kevin Harley could read a phone book.
- 8:40Yeah, he's great. He's unbelievable.
- 8:41Yeah, he's, he would be my #1. Yeah, I think so too.
- 8:45If they were all together, I just want to see next year on
- 8:48ESPN because when you get to the postgame and that's what it's
- 8:50about. I don't watch the pregame stuff.
- 8:52I I rarely watch the halftime stuff.
- 8:53It's postgame for me. Me too.
- 8:55When they are ties are loosened, feet are up on the desk, they're
- 9:00goofing off a little bit. Is ESPN gonna allow that?
- 9:04I mean, they got Scott Van Pelt waiting in the wings.
- 9:07How long did those guys have to spread their wings?
- 9:09What does SportsCenter become? Well, you think?
- 9:11Sportscenter's going to want to get Van Pelt inserted into it.
- 9:15That's a great question, because that's how that's the case now.
- 9:18Yeah, I. I mean, because what's coming on
- 9:20afterwards, we'll either a replay of the game on TNT or, I
- 9:23don't know, an old edition of LA Law or something.
- 9:25You know, there's no idea. There's not.
- 9:27There is with ESPN. You get an hour of of post game
- 9:31for the most. Part.
- 9:32Is that going to be the case the.
- 9:33Answer I Trent, I don't think I think the answer is probably no.
- 9:36What about when we go to halftime?
- 9:37I mean, the ESPN halftime, Bill Simmons talked about it when he
- 9:40was on that show. It's a joke every.
- 9:42You got a huge panel of people, Everybody's got 15 seconds to
- 9:45talk and then you go right back to a commercial break.
- 9:47It's not, there's nothing insightful that is put into
- 9:50those. But on TNT at halftime, they are
- 9:53allowed to breathe. They are allowed to crack jokes
- 9:56and have fun and also talk about the game.
- 9:59That's not allowed at ESPN. What's going to happen on that
- 10:02front? You can bring all the production
- 10:03people you want with you. You can bring everybody along,
- 10:06every producer, everybody. That say in the broadcast,
- 10:09Trent, that's you're making a great point.
- 10:11There's somebody in your ear saying Nope, we gotta get to
- 10:13break, let's go, let's go, let's go.
- 10:14Like when I look at you sometimes, yeah, that's true.
- 10:17But when you have that, there's that is the new reality and I
- 10:22wonder how that's going to look and how different suddenly
- 10:25inside the NBA. And and what does that do to the
- 10:28talents? I mean, what does how, how,
- 10:30what, what does their outlook change?
- 10:32We should have we should have just quit when they decided to
- 10:3586 the show. Take a guess.
- 10:37I heard Andrew Marchand talking about this yesterday with The
- 10:41Athletic, a media sports media reporter.
- 10:44How much Charles Barkley makes from TNT Turner each year.
- 10:48A year? What is Yuri's?
- 10:51About Stephen A Smith, what did he just sign a new contract?
- 10:54He's had 20 million a year. It's a.
- 10:56Huge number. So Barclay's not making that for
- 10:59just do. Where is he?
- 11:02He's making 10. North of that.
- 11:04Is he? He said it was in the range of
- 11:07probably 16 to 18,000,000. Is it really?
- 11:09And is he the highest paid of them he has?
- 11:11To be Shaq is also in double figure million.
- 11:14I think 11:50 is kind of what his estimate was.
- 11:17Jets not at 10, but probably like 7 to 8 million.
- 11:20Yep. That's think of that in your
- 11:22post career and how long those guys have been doing it.
- 11:25Yeah. 30 years to make. That kind of money. 30 something
- 11:29years joking around now. They weren't making that from
- 11:31the jump. No actually, but have ascended
- 11:34to that level. It's so good.
- 11:35I mean, just look at the Emmys that they've got.
- 11:38Right. Right, the sports Television
- 11:40Emmys. It's just fill up a trophy case.
- 11:42Well, we'll see. We do get a Game 6 tomorrow.
- 11:45Series shifts back to Indiana. Do the Pacers have to win
- 11:50tomorrow? I think so too.
- 11:52All of a sudden, this team that looked like they were coasting
- 11:54into the NBA final got a little pressure on him now after last
- 11:58night because the Knicks a they came to play.
- 12:00Brunson's going to be Brunson night in and night out.
- 12:02Bridges was phenomenal on both ends of the floor.
- 12:05Robinson does what he does and, and, and just Brunson just I
- 12:10think his total points prop was 30 1/2 and he finished with 32.
- 12:16He's he's a bucket. Getter Knicks plus 280 at Circa
- 12:19Sports right now to win the series.
- 12:21So yesterday when we were talking about the three teams
- 12:24left to win the entire thing, the Thunder were -750 you could,
- 12:31you were offering me the Knicks. What did you say 6?
- 12:3328 to 1. They're 28 to 1 now.
- 12:36That's what they were yesterday. So what are they now?
- 12:3818 to 1 so. It's taking a significant.
- 12:41Drop Pacers plus 675 the Thunder -675 and I think that's what
- 12:46they were yesterday. I thought it was in the 7th.
- 12:48You you mentioned it was a DraftKings.
- 12:50OK, Yeah, but you. Found a better number.
- 12:52At Circo is -675 as it is today and if you forced me to make a
- 12:57bet, I'd be laying it with the Thunder.
- 12:59I mean, if the Knicks come back it would be incredible, but if
- 13:02they can have anything then left in the tank to beat that
- 13:04behemoth, I don't think so. In A7 game series I.
- 13:06Don't think so. Chance.
- 13:07I don't think so. Either, I mean Carl Anthony
- 13:09Towns would be crying after playing that team.
- 13:12They just flat out guard you. Yeah.
- 13:14They're just so good on the defensive end of the floor.
- 13:17It almost seems like, I hate to say it, a foregone conclusion.
- 13:20Yeah. That you're going to go ahead
- 13:21and anoint them. Who made it?
- 13:22Who said that? Go ahead and anoint them.
- 13:24Is that the Dennis? Denny Green I think it was.
- 13:26Crown their ass. Go ahead and crown their ass.
- 13:28That's what it was after a Monday night game.
- 13:30Right. Yes, against the Bears.
- 13:32Against the Bears, yeah. Well, he was the Cardinals
- 13:34coach. And he's the Cardinals coach.
- 13:35Speaking of the Cardinals, there's a lot of love for this
- 13:37team this year. Do you get it?
- 13:41Where are they in the pecking order in the West?
- 13:44Second or third? Don't you think the Rams are
- 13:46one? I think so.
- 13:48I don't. Niner said schedule is Charmin
- 13:51soft. It is.
- 13:53What are they favoured in? I think 15 or 15 or 17?
- 13:57Yeah. Seahawks.
- 14:01Is there another bounce there? No, I I guess third, but I don't
- 14:07feel overly confident. So you're that confident in the
- 14:09Rams, though, over the 49ers that you think they're a
- 14:12prohibitive #1? Yeah, you do.
- 14:15I do. I I like this.
- 14:17Doesn't come as a surprise. I like both LA teams.
- 14:20Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 14:23We haven't even hit June. We're already getting back on
- 14:24the jump. We're close.
- 14:25Enough to June. You know you jumped off a year
- 14:28ago. You made the right.
- 14:29Decision, but then I come back on.
- 14:30Oh, no, we're, we're not doing this again.
- 14:32No, it's too late. It's already invested.
- 14:35Too late. Oh no, too late.
- 14:37I've I've bet the Rams with six AFC opponents.
- 14:42I've bet the Chargers with seven NFC opponents for the name of
- 14:47the finalists. OK.
- 14:49Chargers, Vikings, Chargers, Bears, Chargers, Commanders,
- 14:52Chargers, Eagles. No, you could have invested that
- 14:55money for the next two months and probably got the same price
- 14:57come. Yeah, but I don't get the fun.
- 14:58No, I don't get the fun. And I don't know what crypto is.
- 15:01OK, I have no idea what that means.
- 15:04I I really don't. You remember that wasn't too
- 15:06many years ago that that all the rage were like pictures of
- 15:13monkeys. Pictures, not pictures of
- 15:16pictures of pictures of of fictional things.
- 15:20Fictional. Do you know what I'm talking
- 15:21about? And you had to buy them and
- 15:23people were buying it and you couldn't like, display them.
- 15:27Yes. What were those?
- 15:28I can't think of, but do you remember what I'm talking about?
- 15:30I know what you're talking. About and they were like
- 15:32millions of dollars and everybody had to have yes and
- 15:35then they. Told the market.
- 15:37Totally. I got to assume Crash.
- 15:39Yes. I haven't heard about it.
- 15:40One of those things that wasn't crypto, was it?
- 15:42It wasn't crypto. What is crypto?
- 15:45Crypto. It's not money.
- 15:48I can't explain it. Come on.
- 15:50We were a couple of knuckleheads here talking sports.
- 15:52You think I could explain crypto to you?
- 15:54No. I guess so.
- 15:56To realize so I was just talking to the same person every day.
- 15:59At this time, not exactly a rude scholar over here.
- 16:01I have no idea. So no, I'm not going to invest
- 16:03my money in anything else other than futures and and and the Del
- 16:08Mar once Del Mar gets here in the middle of July.
- 16:11So if we get a Chargers Viking Super Bowl 2. 100 to 1/2 don't
- 16:15care who wins. You you know, you know the
- 16:17number off the top. Bears are 200 to 1. 200 to 1.
- 16:21I got a bunch of commanders, I've got some eagles, I've got
- 16:28Ravens. Ravens.
- 16:30I've got oh, with the Charger, we're on the Chargers of the
- 16:32Rams, we're on the Chargers, I've got the Eagles, the
- 16:35Commanders, the Lions, the Vikings and the Rams and the
- 16:42Niners, so. Chiefs, Eagles Super Bowl
- 16:45rematch will not be very profitable for you.
- 16:47It's like 50 to 1. Have you invested?
- 16:49No, no, no, I'm not. No, the Chiefs aren't getting
- 16:51there this year. Windows closed.
- 16:54I'm sorry the window was closed. You'll find the Chargers
- 16:56bandwagon and it's not going to be the Chiefs here.
- 16:58How many years do we have to keep doing this?
- 17:00Ken Miller. Yeah, they think I'd learned my
- 17:02lesson right. I'm a slow learner anyway.
- 17:05Did you watch any baseball last night?
- 17:06I did well. I watched the Seattle game.
- 17:08I watched the Seattle and and the Natty's late over on FS1.
- 17:13I thought that was good. Yeah, I watched some of the
- 17:17before the hockey and the basketball started, I watched
- 17:20some Braves and some Phillies. And those two teams, I'm
- 17:25starting to wonder about this Braves team.
- 17:27You know, they had so many injuries.
- 17:30They had such a terrible start. Might this be a, a team that at
- 17:36this point, if you're going to jump aboard, if you're looking
- 17:39for a, you know, a team with some odds not named the Dodgers,
- 17:43not probably not the Phillies or the Mets because those prices
- 17:46are way too short at this point. But the Braves are north of 20
- 17:51to 1. And with all the injuries that
- 17:54fall in that team, maybe the Braves might be the team that
- 17:56I'm going to 0 in because that was a good doubleheader
- 17:58yesterday. So what was about 3-4 weeks into
- 18:01the season, he asked me about the Braves and I I had already
- 18:03been invested myself, so I said no.
- 18:05Didn't feel it. But I did grab the Phillies at
- 18:07that time because the Mets were such a great start to win the
- 18:10division. They were like, plus it was plus
- 18:12280 something. What were they to win the World
- 18:14Series? I don't remember what that one
- 18:16was. But this Phillies team, they
- 18:19have the depth that I absolutely love.
- 18:21They they have so many components and it doesn't feel
- 18:23like they're playing great either.
- 18:25No, Nola's out too. In A7 game series who can beat
- 18:30the Dodgers? Dodgers are I think the Padres
- 18:32can. In A7 game series I can say in
- 18:36A5 but NLCS probably Phillies. Isn't there a team we're
- 18:43overlooking just because we can't believe that they're
- 18:45having this good of a year? Should we be starting to look
- 18:47closer? At the Cubs At the Cubs if.
- 18:50They do anything pitching their offense is as good as anybody in
- 18:53baseball. No doubt they are Yes,
- 18:55statistically and and looking at him with the.
- 18:57And they can beat you a myriad of different ways.
- 18:59It's not just that they're a bopping team or like, can you?
- 19:01Trust Colin Ray, Can you trust Ben Brown?
- 19:04Right. Those isn't your number fours.
- 19:05No, you can't do that. You can't, no.
- 19:07Imenaga hopefully gets back and he's show.
- 19:09Hey, Imenaga, Matthew Boyd's been better.
- 19:12Better than advertise. You think tion's going to go?
- 19:15You feel confident in him? I like him if.
- 19:16He's your #4 Now you're talking. If that's your number four, I
- 19:21think you're in good shape. If this team for once and Tom,
- 19:24we'll get you in just a second, Tom, I'll get you a promise.
- 19:27I will. If, if, if they do, just back up
- 19:31what they say they're going to do and open the checkbook.
- 19:34And even if they have to not gut the farm system, but if you have
- 19:38to, you know, swallow hard and and lose a lose a piece, maybe
- 19:45this is the year to do it. I mean, they've already done so.
- 19:49They were willing to give up on Cam Smith.
- 19:51Now, he hadn't been in the in the system very long.
- 19:53He was a first round pick last year, but look what he's doing
- 19:56already in the matures. He's playing very well.
- 19:59So if they if they're willing to give away some of their prize
- 20:03prospects and to bring over a starter, oh boy.
- 20:10But so to your question is who can beat them?
- 20:13Maybe it's the Phillies. I think the Phillies are my top
- 20:17choice. The Mets, is that pitching staff
- 20:19going to hold up through the course of the year and then be
- 20:21able to beat them in A7 game or? See, I'm not even sure the one
- 20:24Soto wants to play in the playoffs.
- 20:26I'm I'm wondering if he just wants to get through the end of
- 20:28the season be done. Sharon, this this guy shows.
- 20:30Zero emotion. Yeah, zero.
- 20:32He's always been that way. I.
- 20:34Guess, but I thought he was. It was and maybe, maybe it's
- 20:37just getting, you know, adjusting to a new team, but
- 20:40they're getting the San Diego Padres version of Juan Soto with
- 20:43the Mets. It's been inconsistent.
- 20:44It's been very inconsistent. Tom, thank you for being
- 20:47patient. Tom, welcome to the program.
- 20:49Thanks for holding. How are you?
- 20:51I'm doing great. Thanks, guys.
- 20:53You guys were asking what that thing was back in the day that
- 20:57kind of blew up and it was NFTA Non Fungible Token.
- 21:03OK, Yeah. Those.
- 21:04Pictures that were passed, especially pictures and cards
- 21:07and stuff like that. And it, and I think what one of
- 21:12the stories was when it blew up like millions of dollars and
- 21:16stuff, there's a sneaking suspicion that was the cartels
- 21:19that were laundering money. Oh God, because it was, yeah, it
- 21:24did go. My wife was trying to get on me.
- 21:25We need to get some this going on this.
- 21:27And I'm like, it's no, it's going to die.
- 21:30And like it predictably died. Well, there was one of a monkey
- 21:36that was like worth millions of dollars.
- 21:39And I'm thinking who the way, why would you want it and what
- 21:41are you going to do with it? Because it's an exclusive.
- 21:44It's a one of one, right? And then it's it's an electronic
- 21:48like file that you were the only one that has kind.
- 21:51That's why it's non fungible because you you all basically
- 21:55owned whatever the algorithm was and stuff on it.
- 21:58So you can't take it out for a walk.
- 21:59You can't put it on a plane with you.
- 22:01It's just useless. Tom, thanks for that Intel.
- 22:05I appreciate you listening and I appreciate you calling in.
- 22:07Thank you, Tom. You're welcome, guys.
- 22:09Have a great day. Yeah, you do, too.
- 22:11There you go. The board was a monkey.
- 22:13The board ape. Was that what it was?
- 22:14I think it was. And I watched it itself
- 22:16originally. Does it say we got to get to
- 22:19Wrigley Field? Mike Pond?
- 22:20We got a busy day. Miller and Condon underway on a
- 22:23Friday. It's the Iowa Sports Radio
- 22:25Network. I'm Miller Condon.
- 22:30Welcome back. 12:30 on a Friday chicken coop contest.
- 22:33So we'll come on up in about 15 minutes.
- 22:35We will give you your cue to call, get you lined up, get you
- 22:38some grub from the chicken coop. If you get the most of our
- 22:41questions right, off to, well, in this case, not to Nevada, to
- 22:45Illinois. Mike Palm, Derek Stevens, the
- 22:47circuit crew at Wrigley Field for today's afternoon affair
- 22:50against the Reds, and he joins us.
- 22:51Hello, Mike Palm, how are you? Hello, Ken.
- 22:55Hello, Trent. It's been a heck of a week so
- 22:58far. We got a great turn out here for
- 23:00our tailgate in the parking lot of Wrigleyville Dodge right
- 23:03across from the stadium. So looking forward to Pumps and
- 23:07Reds coming up here and here a little over now.
- 23:09So where did you start the week? We left Las Vegas at 6:00 AM
- 23:14Pacific Time on Wednesday. Flew into a small airfield,
- 23:19technically in Tennessee, and then went over to the men's in
- 23:24Franklin, KY, where we had the Circle sports book at that
- 23:26casino and looked at the progress of our new sports book,
- 23:30the permanent book. But vaguely, really, the Visa
- 23:33studio that they're building down there.
- 23:35Oh, wow. The glass opens up and the desk
- 23:38spins around. The person that's doing the show
- 23:40can actually open it up and have the live air of the massive
- 23:44crowd that will be inside the book.
- 23:45It's a pretty neat setup. That is wonderful.
- 23:48Well, wonder if the Iowa Sports Radio Network maybe needs to do
- 23:51some shows on the road coming up with that thing's opened up here
- 23:54pretty soon. That's really awesome.
- 23:56It really is. And and seeing the development
- 23:58that you guys have been going through.
- 24:00We talk obviously so much here about the state of Iowa and what
- 24:03we're doing here, but the Quad Cities are part of our
- 24:05listenership base over there on the Illinois side of things.
- 24:09What do you look at what you guys done in Illinois and
- 24:11obviously the growth that you guys have had there.
- 24:14Where do you give the credit, the Cubs connection that you
- 24:16have with Marquee, the Blackhawks?
- 24:17Where where do you kind of look through and what you guys have
- 24:19done in the state of Illinois? It's an interesting and it's a
- 24:23good question. And 1:00 we we actually think
- 24:25about a lot. There's a lot of factors here.
- 24:28You know, yesterday we met with the Blackhawks executives for
- 24:33the year in review and then we went out to dinner with them.
- 24:35Obviously the big disappointment is that they didn't get their
- 24:39network, didn't get on table here in Chicago proper.
- 24:42So that's, you know, 40% of 40% of the eyeballs in this area.
- 24:46So I think the connection with Marquee and being on the pubs
- 24:51games is definitely a factor. But when you look, when we do
- 24:55events in Illinois, what are the best events in terms of getting
- 24:59people to download the app and fund it and converting
- 25:01customers? It's when we go to Peoria, it's
- 25:04when we go to ALT, when we go down there across from Saint
- 25:07Louis. So there's different ways to
- 25:10look at, obviously in Waukegan, you know, you're an hour and 10
- 25:13minutes north of the city. Maybe we maybe we focus our
- 25:16efforts a little more on the Wisconsin sports and the and the
- 25:19Brewers and the Bucks and the University of Wisconsin football
- 25:21and basketball because we're more likely to drop people from
- 25:24Kenosha and Racine than we are from Chicago.
- 25:27How is the American, the American place, which is where
- 25:30you guys will have your book once it's permanent?
- 25:33I know it's still still ways away, but did you get an update
- 25:36on that, Mike? Yeah, the update there is
- 25:38they're putting a poker room in right next to the sports book,
- 25:41so they can't. That can't hurt.
- 25:42No 6 tables have a couple $50 buying tournaments a day.
- 25:46You draw some foot traffic. Indeed.
- 25:48All right, let's get to the baseball game today.
- 25:51It's the Reds. It's the Cubs.
- 25:53When you look at this Cubs team, if, if, if, and I know it's a
- 25:57big if, but it sure seems like you know, the way offensively
- 26:00the the what they're doing is everybody as good as the
- 26:04Dodgers, which you know with that, that if you can be staying
- 26:07on pace with the Dodgers offensively, you're doing
- 26:10something. Do you think that this Cubs
- 26:12team, are you re evaluating whether they are a legitimate
- 26:15contender or not to represent the National League?
- 26:20I just think they have to get some more pitching and they're
- 26:23going to have to do some stuff with the trade deadline.
- 26:25I think Imanaga will be coming back.
- 26:28That hurts. He's been out a month, he's gone
- 26:30for the year. I think they have to go out and
- 26:34get a legitimate like #2 starter and the Bullfin has probably
- 26:38been the biggest disappointment for me.
- 26:39I thought that would be the area they take the biggest step
- 26:41forward and it really hasn't. That being said, I mean, you
- 26:46can't complain about the run margin.
- 26:48They're never out of any game. But I've been here in Chicago,
- 26:52everybody's talking about a weak sweep that they should have beat
- 26:55the Rockies by more runs. You know, I guess expectations
- 26:59have changed. Good problem to have when you're
- 27:01complaining about not sweeping A-Team by enough.
- 27:04And that's the issue right now with the Cubs.
- 27:06Hey, we're talking a little bit earlier.
- 27:08Let's say we get to an NLCS. The Dodgers are there.
- 27:10The Dodgers are healthy. Otani's back pitching on top of
- 27:13it. Who in the National League is
- 27:14equipped to win A7 game series against them?
- 27:17Not a 5 gamer where we know a lot more can happen.
- 27:19The volatility is a lot higher in a short series.
- 27:22Who can beat a healthy Dodgers team in the National League in
- 27:25A7 game? I would think it's the Phillies
- 27:29because I think the Phillies can and throw.
- 27:31Nola Nola's been terrible, but the Phillies can run 3 or 4
- 27:34starters at the steal and they're a veteran team and
- 27:38they've been there and done that.
- 27:40I would think they'd have the best chance right now.
- 27:42I don't know that the Mets have enough pitching.
- 27:44I don't think so. I know they've played, they've
- 27:46played well in stretches, but I really don't think that they
- 27:48have enough pitching to beat the Dodgers in the seven game
- 27:51series. So that's the whole thing now
- 27:54because you know, the focus switches when you've done so
- 27:57well that hopefully we're going to win the Central.
- 27:58Now. How do we beat these teams that
- 27:59are going to be in the playoffs? But, and the Dodgers aren't a
- 28:04foreground conclusion either, but I think the Phillies will be
- 28:08a very formidable out in the NF play.
- 28:09I don't, I don't mind, you know, dipping your toe in the water on
- 28:13Phillies futures in terms of the National League.
- 28:16What would you do in the American League?
- 28:17Say you can't. The Yankees are too short a
- 28:19price for you. Do you believe in the Tigers?
- 28:21And if not Detroit, who would be the threat to other than the
- 28:25Yanks to come out of the American League?
- 28:27Yeah, I don't think it's anybody in the West.
- 28:31I think all those teams are flawed in one way or another.
- 28:35I do believe in the Tigers. I think the Tigers are the
- 28:37second best team. I've been watching his Twins
- 28:40team pretty closely, friends. They're fragile, but boy, I
- 28:47mean, Joe Ryan is a legitimate pitcher now.
- 28:50Pablo Lopez could be an ace and not a fake ace.
- 28:53So I stake out here. I think.
- 28:57I think, hey, Pete, I want to tell everybody right now, Pete,
- 28:59the board did absolutely the right.
- 29:01Thing there's. No question at all, 100% he had
- 29:05to pull him and to say, look, we've been saying this for three
- 29:10years, that here's a fake case and peace is worse, right?
- 29:14He walked six to seven to Edmonton.
- 29:17He had no shot with him. He gives up, he doesn't make a
- 29:19save, right? So, but I think the trends are
- 29:22interesting. I think the trends could be very
- 29:24interesting if they can stay healthy.
- 29:25And with the Royce Lewis, as poorly as he has played since
- 29:29he's come back, you got to anticipate what the talent he
- 29:31has. He's going to be better.
- 29:32Same with Correa coming off the IL Buxton was hitting before he
- 29:35got hurt. There's star power there.
- 29:37And and you're right, that staff, that bullpen is really
- 29:40good. If you're looking for a dark, of
- 29:41course, there's worse ones out there, I think than the Twins.
- 29:44But you guys open the door a little bit to the winter sports
- 29:46season. A quick take.
- 29:48Is it just the Thunder? I mean, is there anything at all
- 29:50Knicks, Pacers, whoever gets there, can you make any kind of
- 29:53argument even with the big price on either the Eastern
- 29:56components? There was one team that had a
- 29:59chance to beat the Thunder. It was the Nuggets.
- 30:01But now it's over. It doesn't it doesn't matter who
- 30:03doors going to lock either the top two players, you know,
- 30:06right? I mean, it's not this is a real
- 30:08just a really good team and and don't tell anybody, but they're
- 30:12not going anywhere for five or six years.
- 30:14It's the draft picks and the cap space they have.
- 30:16It seems here to stay. It's it's David's third
- 30:19nightmare. No, you're 1000% right.
- 30:22All right, I agree with you on Ottinger.
- 30:23They did the right thing. They were down to nothing in an
- 30:26elimination game. They had to do it.
- 30:29So what do we make about the rematch?
- 30:31The rematch Mike obviously was A7 game series last year.
- 30:34Florida jumps on three, nothing. Edmonton wins the next 321 in
- 30:38the final game goes the Panthers way.
- 30:41Are both teams better? I believe they are.
- 30:43I believe the Panthers got significantly better at the
- 30:46trade deadline and and the Oilers have the best player in
- 30:49the world. So how were how will the Oilers
- 30:52or will they be able to get past Florida this year?
- 30:55Well, if you listened to previously talking about Pete de
- 30:58Boer last night, you said this team is this edited team is
- 31:03drastically better from the team that we lost to in the Western
- 31:06Conference finals last year, which says a lot.
- 31:10I I think Florida is slightly better.
- 31:13However, you know and that in hockey every great superstar
- 31:18gets their cup and I think this is McDavid and drive private
- 31:22class. Yeah, I hope you're right, Mike
- 31:24Pom. Listen, I know you're busy over
- 31:26there. We'll let you go have fun at
- 31:29Wrigley Field. When are you on the radio?
- 31:32We're going to be in the top of the third inning.
- 31:34Derek and I will be on with the PAT and Rob.
- 31:36Enjoy yourself, have a safe trip back.
- 31:38We'll talk to you next week, Mike.
- 31:39Thank you. Thanks guys.
- 31:41Good to talk to you, Mike Pom, VP of operations at Circa Sports
- 31:44just outside Wrigley Field for the 121st pitch against the
- 31:48Reds. And making his way over there.
- 31:50And they're in the bleachers also today.
- 31:52Oh, is that? Where they going?
- 31:53Yep, that's where their tickets are.
- 31:54So they're going to be hanging out.
- 31:55So Bleacher creatures out there, Wrigley.
- 31:57I love that place. He likes your twins.
- 32:01You're coming around you a little belief.
- 32:05The talent is there and when we look so.
- 32:08What's going on with Lewis though?
- 32:09Seriously. So and it's so crazy because
- 32:12last year when he came off injury, he couldn't get him out.
- 32:15He was raking right away and people asked him about slumps.
- 32:18He says I don't want slump. And then they came back with the
- 32:21same question I think earlier this week and he was as down as
- 32:26I've ever seen him. He's a confident man and there's
- 32:29a reason because he's a stud, but he is going through the 1st
- 32:32prolonged slump of his life, out of his career and baseball of
- 32:36his life. He's never had anything like
- 32:38this and it's messing with his head.
- 32:41You see a guy in the batter's box that's uncomfortable and
- 32:43that was never Royce Lewis. Even coming off injury,
- 32:47significant injuries, that dude, he.
- 32:48Was the number one overall pick, was he not?
- 32:50Yeah, he was. He is out of it right now.
- 32:55I think just because of talent, he will play himself out of it.
- 32:59But boy, to see a guy that has gone through a ton of injuries.
- 33:02He's probably never struggled in his life other than injuries,
- 33:04right? Right.
- 33:05He's excelled at every whatever team he was on, he was the best
- 33:08player. Right.
- 33:09And now he is not just struggling.
- 33:12He's awful. Where's he hitting in the
- 33:13lineup? Did they move him?
- 33:14They've been moving them all around.
- 33:16They've been. Trying to do something.
- 33:17Yep, he that's a big series this week.
- 33:20I like this series in Seattle. He mentioned, I, I can't
- 33:25remember the direct quote, but it was something along the lines
- 33:27of, well, I've been hitting it hard.
- 33:31They tell me that sometime these guys, these ones are going to
- 33:33drop it. Just you can see also that here
- 33:35the frustration when he was talking about it, It's going to
- 33:39come around. But we know Carlos Correa and is
- 33:42he the player that he was four years ago now?
- 33:43Well. Defensively, he might be still
- 33:44be. He's an absolute stud there.
- 33:46He's a good stick. He's a guy that also got off to
- 33:48a slow start and it wasn't because he wasn't hitting it
- 33:50well, he just hit him right. After he's got, he's got that
- 33:53champion mentality in that locker.
- 33:54Room. He is a great locker room guy.
- 33:56He is a baseball nerd. He is the kind of guy that you
- 33:59want to be a leader. We know Buxton when he's there.
- 34:02He's a stud, not a concussion, and concussions in the Minnesota
- 34:07Twins are kind of scary with Justin Morneau.
- 34:09Right. And completely derailed his
- 34:11career. Absolutely he did.
- 34:14Who else? Corey Koski.
- 34:15Was he Corey? Koski.
- 34:16He was, yes. And he was an All Star.
- 34:18He was in Minnesota. And went to college at D Mac.
- 34:23I forgot. About that, look at this.
- 34:25He's AD Mac Corey. Koski Yes, he was AD Mac Bear.
- 34:29And born and raised in. He's a Canadian.
- 34:32Winnipeg, yeah, Canadian lad, you know.
- 34:35But with the Twins, rotation's good, the bullpen is excellent.
- 34:40And if those pieces we talk about offensively, because
- 34:43talent wise, I like them more than the Mariners.
- 34:46I like them more even than the Tigers then.
- 34:48I think we missed on the Rangers.
- 34:50Yeah, they can hit. I mean, they can't.
- 34:52They can pitch. They can't hit.
- 34:54Yeah. And they see Minnesota next
- 34:57week. Is that right?
- 34:58I think it's next week. I think it's.
- 35:01Elimination time for the Rangers.
- 35:03Well, it's almost to that point, right?
- 35:04Or maybe not elimination time, but what are you going to do the
- 35:07deadline time? You know, a lot of teams are
- 35:09facing the prospects of you know what it's we soon.
- 35:12We have to make these decisions. We in or we out.
- 35:14It's. Going to be June.
- 35:16This Sunday. This Sunday, June is here.
- 35:20I know it. And decisions get a little bit
- 35:22more difficult at that time. I saw Do you see?
- 35:24The Dodgers picked up another All Star.
- 35:27Come on. Yeah, they're, they're doing it.
- 35:29Oh yeah, but he's a bum now, right?
- 35:32He's no good. He's no good.
- 35:33At Diaz. Right from from Cincinnati.
- 35:36Yes, yeah, yeah, I saw that. Yeah, is.
- 35:38It all started a couple years ago.
- 35:39It's not been the case this year, right?
- 35:41But I just saw the headline. I'm like, no, what it Oh yeah,
- 35:44right not. Again, just what they need,
- 35:47right? That's a that's a good series
- 35:49this weekend. Sunday Night Baseball, Dodgers,
- 35:52Yankees. Do you have Apple TV?
- 35:54No. Damn, so won't be able to see it
