- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Welcome to another episode of Five Minute Parenting.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Today we have a special guest, Jennifer Bosman.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: She's a wife of 34 years, a mom to three grown daughters, and a grandma to two precious granddaughters.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: She loves Jesus and she wants to share all she can with young moms about him.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: And she writes books and blogs and she speaks.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: And her goal is that each day is to inspire moms worldwide to reach the potential that God has entrusted to them with themselves and their families.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: So welcome, Jennifer.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Hey Sandra, thank you so much for having me.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: And today Jennifer is going to share about praying scripture over your babies.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Praying scripture over your baby is the most important thing we as moms can do.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And that's what I that was my motivation with my second book, I know the plans, because when my girls were little, I have three daughters all grown.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: There were certain scriptures that I did really kind of play like put a place in my heart.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: And I would pray over them.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: And at first I didn't really know them by heart.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: So I would be reading them or learning them.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: And then over time, when I would leave their room at night, I would just be praying over them and saying these scriptures.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: And over the years, more were added in.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: And with my second book, I know the plans, all these scriptures are in that book.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: And it's, I just when my granddaughter was born, I was holding her.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I need to read her a book.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: You know, like this is my first time reading her a book, and I'm a I'm a previous teacher, and we know we read a book every day.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: So that's where I first got the idea to write with the book all the scriptures.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Because when you say, I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope in a future, that is way more powerful than good night, moon, good night, you know, good night mush, good night nobody, good night mush, good night to, you know, all the good night moon, which is a great book.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: But um, when we can pray scriptures over our babies, it's so, so helpful.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: That's a great scripture, too.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: And you know, recently in one of my blogs, I wrote seven ways a mama can pray when she's so, so busy.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: And obviously, it's great to pray scripture and just get some certain scriptures.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: And you don't have to, you know, know them by heart and they'll add on to you.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Your scriptures will add on as you go.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: But a great way that a mom, a busy mom, can pray over her babies is little things.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Like, um, I know in your book, Sandra, I've really enjoyed reading you about the prayer closet, but it's so important a prayer of our babies.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: And you know what I've loved is when we all have our cell phones or or you know, a clock in the car.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: When you see a special time, I like to say my husband's birthday is 9-11, you know, the famous birthday.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: But when I see 9-11 come on my my phone or my clock and my car or my oven, I just say a prayer for him.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: And it's a quick prayer.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: And when I see 9-11, I pray for him.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: And when I see my daughter's, my daughter's birthdays, like whatever birthday when we know they were born, like 1114.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: I will just pray for that daughter at 1114 or anniversaries or um anything that is a special number.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: And it's even my husband and my anniversary, it's really kind of cool that you can, it's just it like let you pray like at that time.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: And it's really great, moms, to let your kids hear you pray.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: And then you'll get more and more comfortable about that when you're praying out loud.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Do you feel that too, Sandra?
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Do you like praying out loud for your kids?
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: And I love those, I love those ideas about the time, you know, it's just sometimes we just we don't use the opportunities we have, you know.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: And they're right there for you.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, we all see the times and special times.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: And another thing, I don't know if you do this, Sandra, but when my girls were little, I would hear a siren, you know, in the siren, the fire truck, the ambulance going by, and they're zipping by you.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: So we were just in our car, we'd all pray.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: You know, I'd say, girls, let's pray for wherever that that ambulance is going, and let's pray for the people working in the ambulance and for the people that they're going to help.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: And that's another great way that we as busy mamas can pray with our kids right there.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: And um, do you do that too?
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Did you do that with your kids?
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my daughter's grown now and married, but yes, we would we would pray and we would pray out loud for different situations.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: And you know, it's I had I had, I don't know if you know Melissa Henderson, she's a writer also, and and she recently shared on the podcast about she she babysits her grandson several times.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: And she says, We pray from the time we get up.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: We go to the front door, we open the door, and we say, God, thank you for this morning.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: And they pray, you know, they they pray thank yous throughout the day, they pray for their meals, and that's kind of what you're saying.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: I think that's a great way to teach our children to pray.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: It's not, you know, sit down, be formal, fold your hands, although there's a time for that.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: But right.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: The everyday things, it's amazing.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Oh, absolutely.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: And there's nothing more easy to pray about than when you see the sunrise and sunset.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: You know, when you're driving, you see a beautiful sky, you can say, kids, look at that God's majesty or a rainbow or anything that, you know, it's basically I've I've been reading um Ben Stewart.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: He's a really he's a really big pastor with Passion City, and he's out of Washington, D.C.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: now for a while.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: He was one of the um the college ministers at Texas AM, but he had a great podcast on capturing the awe moments, AWE of God, because they're everywhere.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: And sometimes it could just be a little butterfly that's floating by when you're going to get your mail.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Stop and kind of look at that butterfly, and just you can just kind of feel that God's presence is there and He has everything figured out.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: And just take advantage of those awe moments when you get them.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: I think we as moms and grandparents, I mean, we didn't have the issue I think we all have right now is our cell phones because we may be having an awe moment that we get a phone call, and then we're like, hello, and then there goes the awe moment with God, you know.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: So I think, you know, and I know Sandra, you and I are about the same age.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: And when our kids were small, we didn't have the distraction of the cell phone.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: You know, so um I really love the just taking advantage of awe moments.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: And when you have those awe moments, you know, when you see them, just don't think about them in your head.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: When your children are with you, talk about those moments.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Just say, you know, look at that shadow or look at that sky or look at those birds, the geese flying by, kids.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: You know, sometimes we're quick to think about it.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: And as a teacher, I would all when I was teaching for 23 years, I would have, I would share those awe moments in my head when I was reading a story, or hey kids, this makes me think of blah, blah, blah.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: You know, but just take those moments to catch those awe moments, don't get distracted and speak what you think with your children there.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can model prayer for them, just everyday type prayers.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, definitely.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: And um, I know you probably did this as well.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: I just love having I as a grandma too, I have the praise music rocking in the car.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: You know, you just put and one of the things like I just have Pandora, but I don't know if your kids watch this, but did you guys ever watch the Donut Man with Rob Evans?
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: I don't think we did.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: I don't okay, Mamas.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Whoever's listening to this, this is your new best friend.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: You need to go to YouTube and look up Donut Man.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Donut, like Donut You Eat at Breakfast, Donut Man.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: His name is Rob Evans.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: He, these videos are from you know the 90s or early 2000s, and all the classic songs and barnyard fun.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: My my grandkids don't watch a lot of um TV, but Barnyard Fun is all praise songs, and you can find it on YouTube.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: It's free.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: And you can download um on Pandora, you can just search um Donut Man and all of his music comes up.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, like Hosanna and and the children cry, Hosanna, you know, all the things that we would hear at Sunday school.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: A lot of the songs you would recommend recognize.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: So just bust out that those praise music when you're going to and from, and that's another great way to hear them hear have hear you praying and saying scriptures through song.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: It's another great way.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'd highly recommend.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: I just wrote that down.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna look that up.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, donut man, Rob Evans.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: But yeah, he's a lot of fun.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Now my grandkids are listening to it too, so it's kind of cool to see it come full circle, you know.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: How old are your grandchildren?
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: Uh, four and two.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: And then my and my daughter's expecting number three in March.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: And we're gonna be, we have two granddaughters, and the third is gonna also be a surprise.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: So we're excited.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, so we'll see.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be fun.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: Waiting for my first grandchild.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: I have a grandpuppy, and I think that's her focus right now.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: It's the there you go.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, granddog.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Granddogs are great, you know.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: He's cute, but she's a French Frenchie, but I'm I'd like a grandchild.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: Sometimes oh yes, and you can't ask.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: That's kind of you like mom.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: I know that sounds like just like her mom.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: But yeah, so to all your listeners, moms, you know, just don't be afraid to pray out loud.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: And that's going to get your children comfortable with praying.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: And another thing, when you when they hear you get asked, like, oh, will you pray for such and such for me?
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: You know, I just say, Yes, let's pray right now.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: And I immediately just say the prayer right then and there with that person there.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: And then, because, you know, when when they say, Will you pray for me?
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: What do you do?
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: Go back into your house and have a moment where you stop everything and you pray for that person, you get distracted and you don't.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: But if you when someone asks you for a prayer request with your child there, just say, Okay, Lord, let we just pray right now that Susie has a great time or gets blessed or whatever that prayer request was.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: So just pray a lot with your children, pray scripture when you can.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: And even if you mess up the words of the scripture, get it as close as possible because God knows your heart and he knows what you're saying.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I hope those some of those ideas help.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: And I wrote those on my blog, the um seven ways a mama can pray.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: That's great.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Well, uh, I want my listeners to go to uh Jennifer's website, which will be in the show notes.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: So you'll be able to see her books and you'll be able to see her blog, and uh you'll be able to just hear all the other wisdom she has to teach moms.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: Thank you, Jennifer, for being on Five Minute Parenting the Day.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: We really appreciate it.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Thanks.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: Thanks for having me be a guest, Sandra.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: You do great work and encouragement to mom is what we all need to do for our young moms these days.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: We'll see you.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Bye.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Bye bye.
