Speaker 3: How was the move, Kim?
• 0:56
Speaker 4: Are we going to welcome back?
• 0:58
Speaker 3: Okay, welcome back. You do it.
• 0:59
Speaker 4: Welcome back to Excuse My Grandma. It's Kim and my co host.
• 1:03
  Speaker 3: Grandma Gail.
• 1:21
Speaker 4: Okay, now we can start, grandma.
• 1:24
Speaker 3: Okay. Well, congratulations on your move.
• 1:27
  Speaker 4: Thank you.
• 1:29
Speaker 3: Know dramatic to get the sofa in the furniture in.
• 1:33
Speaker 4: It's a lot. Oh, yeah. I knew that moving was stressful. And it's not even that I'm stressed. Just like it is so much to do.
• 1:45
And I think when it's with another person, and there's two opinions, and like, two people's stuff, Like, there's just so much to go through and be like, is your cup better than my cup? Because we don't need to, you know, things like that. Because there's just, like, there's so many cups in
• 2:02
Speaker 3: the Well, you have to you have to right. You have to end up getting rid of what's no good between the two of you. See, that's why I said to you, even before you moved, you should edit from your old apartment. Sometimes you just take the stuff that you didn't like in the old apartment, and you're bringing it to the new apartment. You've to throw it out again eventually because there's no room in it.
• 2:22
But alright, you did it, and you'll edit it slowly, the two of you, as you get, used to the new place. And you don't have the other pieces of furniture there yet that would make it even easier to put stuff away. It'll be in the next week or so probably.
• 2:36
Speaker 4: I know. Well, right. Because I'm getting a lot of stuff from like mom and from Florida, some furniture. So that'll be
• 2:44
Speaker 3: good. It's a process. Mean, you know, I had you know, if it wasn't so costly, I would have liked to have taken the apartment, but she wasn't leaving anyway a month before so you could do all this before. That's the
• 2:57
  Speaker 4: way do is
• 2:58
  Speaker 3: the easiest.
• 2:59
Speaker 4: Well, no. I think though what it is, it seems that everyone has this transitional time where it's like the first month or two, it's just not done. Because no one gets it.
• 3:11
Speaker 3: Because you have too many details, unless you're ordering all from one source and they're bringing it all in. See, like your last department, you laughed at it, but we did everything from West Elm. So everything came from one basic warehouse, and they checked it off. But there were some things that I remember they lost or they broke. So it always has ebbs and flows on all these things.
• 3:36
  Nothing is perfect.
• 3:37
Speaker 4: Yeah. Also, I didn't have stuff from before. It was all new Correct. And
• 3:43
Speaker 3: But it I easy. Was one stop shop.
• 3:45
Speaker 4: Yeah. And for some reason, we knew that I could have that lease like three months in advance. That's not typical. And so usually, don't have that amount of prep time and things like that. But
• 3:57
Speaker 3: it'll all get done. It's not
• 4:00
Speaker 4: I feel like I'm excited for you to come in and help a little bit. I know you've been in Florida while I've been here. Thanks.
• 4:09
  Speaker 3: Thanks the Lord.
• 4:12
Speaker 4: Don't you wanna help?
• 4:13
Speaker 3: No. The two of you there, you can manage it perfectly. Mom and I did the stuff. We had some moving day on Friday out of here, moving stuff to the beach, to you, to whatever, to charity. Were so It was nine hours of movers going The in, going dog had her opinion also.
• 4:33
She liked this guy. She didn't like that guy. So it is, but it all gets settled. By the end of April, you'll be fine.
• 4:42
Speaker 4: Yeah. Millie can be bits of things. Today, grandma, I wanna go deeper on the question, what changes when you move in together? So excuse my grandma while we talk about it.
• 4:53
  Speaker 3: Okay.
• 4:55
Speaker 4: Well, so grandma, I want to learn more about you and Poppy living together at first and moving in in the 60s. So I can learn from that as I enter this new chapter with Zach. Obviously, things are different because we're not married, and you guys already were. And it was just like a
• 5:10
Speaker 3: totally Oh, I different think that's a very big difference.
• 5:12
  Speaker 4: I think
• 5:13
Speaker 3: that's a big difference. And I think that's why people who get married today, young couples who go right into marriage, they are doing the learning process that you guys have been doing for two years. So there's good and bad in both instances. We certainly didn't have that living in process in the '60s. So we moved in and we managed.
• 5:35
But you know what? The big difference is you're not that set in your ways at 21 and 23. You're basically both starting out at the same level of newness. But the both of you have lived on your own in your apartments and had your own separate careers naturally, which you still do. And that becomes a bigger transition because you're very much set in your ways.
• 6:01
So this will have to be something you guys work at as a compromise in certain areas. And one will have to give in one area, and one has to give in another area. You're combining two different individuals together at a time.
• 6:16
Speaker 4: Did you make any compromises? How did your life shift or change?
• 6:22
Speaker 3: Well, my life basically changed completely because I left my parents home and my husband and I had to make a home. But the big difference was I had to assume responsibilities, which nowadays is very different. I would be going to the market in the morning and I would be preparing dinner. Was actually a part time teacher in the first year we were married. Did remedial
• 6:45
Speaker 4: Oh, I don't know if I knew that. You did what?
• 6:48
Speaker 3: I taught at a school for, it was actually a literacy program. I taught children who didn't know how to read English to, they were mostly Hispanic and I taught them reading. So but that was a volunteer. I never really worked that much.
• 7:04
  Speaker 4: And
• 7:05
Speaker 3: then I took some courses because I was not working. So we had a one family income and I managed to do all of it while your grandfather went to work from at 07:00 in the morning. And he would come back though at like 06:00 and we would have either dinner or we'd take a walk or we lived on 75th Street. It was a very nice area. We had great fun.
• 7:32
I love the city. The city is very nice for young marrieds. There's so much to do.
• 7:38
Speaker 4: But do you remember in the beginning, you're totally switching up roles from living under your parents to going. Now you're the one going grocery shopping and getting Yeah.
• 7:50
  Speaker 3: It's a whole
• 7:50
Speaker 4: different thing. Right. Was that shock not shocking transition, but
• 7:55
Speaker 3: I did you had feel like to learn how to do it. I had never done it before. I went right out of college to getting married. So you can't really it's comparing apples to pears today and yesterday. But as far as compromising, I think that's a very important thing.
• 8:12
If you know somebody really wants a certain type of lettuce, don't order the wrong lettuce. Check with him, do you like iceberg or do you like bib? If he says I only like bib lettuce, then only order the bib lettuce. You're two people. So you have to make
• 8:28
Speaker 4: You don't whole just do it.
• 8:30
Speaker 3: Well, don't do it if there are, if you know your partner is difficult. My partner at the time, now he's difficult, but at the time we got married, anything I did was fine with him. He didn't care. As long as looked good when he came home and fluffed up my hair, which in those days was a major thing. And I looked pretty.
• 8:52
He was happy with that. It was an idyllic time for us and very little stress. And he worked in a business with his father. So he had a very nice relationship with his dad and he would come home and everybody, we were very happy and it was very easy for us. And our families both were very supportive.
• 9:11
And that's very important when you're moving in, to sort of have a good relationship, even with Zach's family and with your parents. It's nice to have that.
• 9:22
Speaker 4: Yeah. Zach's parents were here all day yesterday. Oh, really? Zach's dad is very handy. He was very helpful with like some of the issues.
• 9:31
Speaker 3: He used to into the second bedroom while you He
• 9:33
Speaker 4: said he was like there's a nice three bedroom on this floor I was looking at and his mom was like Howard stop right now. But yeah no I agree that
• 9:45
Speaker 3: That's very nice but wait until your other stuff comes then he has to come back in.
• 9:51
Speaker 4: I know. I know. Because handy is something very important.
• 9:55
Speaker 3: Is Zach handy at all? Because Poppy was never handy.
• 9:59
Speaker 4: I don't think to this extent. Like, he's good with tech, obviously.
• 10:03
  Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
• 10:04
Speaker 4: When the tech breaks and he he already is brainstorming a whole system for, like, pretty much a smart house where you're like, open the shades and then they open and all that stuff.
• 10:14
Speaker 3: Be able to do anything.
• 10:15
Speaker 4: I know. So we're figuring all that out.
• 10:18
Speaker 3: No. That's good. Let him do it. That's fun. That's his project.
• 10:21
So Well then, you know, it's like what Poppy used to say, I'll take care of the big things. You rehandle everything else. The big things was whether we should invade Vietnam, and I'll do all the bills and all the marketing and all the decorating and all the the shopping.
• 10:35
Speaker 4: But, like, the thing is, I know we say this. Like, obviously, it's a joke. Like, you I don't know. Like, he wasn't invading Vietnam. Like, what was it sounds
• 10:43
Speaker 3: like Of course he went.
• 10:44
Speaker 4: No. No. I know. But I'm
• 10:45
Speaker 3: saying He was doing nothing.
• 10:47
Speaker 4: Right. Nothing. Like, whatever the equivalent is, what was so big? Because it seems like if you were handling all those other things, those seem like the things to do.
• 10:55
Speaker 3: His responsibility was go to work and make money.
• 10:58
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 10:58
Speaker 3: That was his sole responsibility. And we used to joke about it. And then you'll do all the big issues, whether we should go into China or Taiwan, and I'll do everything else. Relationship. And don't forget that was our relationship from the beginning.
• 11:13
I mean, I was just 21 years old. What do I know? I had no concept of how to make any money. So there was no conversation about that. And your grandfather was very smart.
• 11:23
He had gone to graduate school. He was in a good business. And he was very creative in business. So he really liked that. And that was his strong suit.
• 11:32
So I really didn't have anything like And had some very good girlfriends. We all A whole group of us who graduated school all got married at the same time. So we'd all meet for lunch and many of the couples then would go out at night and we wouldn't go out to fancy restaurants but sometimes we did because I think we actually had more money in the beginning than later on when we had kids because it was just the two of us.
• 11:57
  Speaker 4: So
• 11:58
Speaker 3: it a very nice time. But you know what? Things like bathroom issues now you of course have two bathrooms so it's a different story. We had to share one bathroom, one shower. Now he went to work early so of course he went in first.
• 12:12
And I would do it later. I would go in and take a shower, whatever I wanted to do later on. But if you're both working at the same time, you're lucky you have different flexible hours, he does not, then he has to get first shot into the bathroom. He should use another bathroom or whatever. You know what?
• 12:33
It all gets worked out. And that's part of working together as long as there are no major issues. We never really thought about anything. So I don't know what the big deal would be to fight over, to be very truthful.
• 12:48
Speaker 4: Yeah. I remember telling you about we were going to move in together, and I didn't really know what your reaction would be because obviously you're opinionated. But you were like, okay. Well, now is the real test. It's a was a very Jewish grandma response.
• 13:03
  Well, is
• 13:04
Speaker 3: a real test because you were really, since you were never in the same city, you really never spent, spent big time together, but it wasn't the same. So now you see some of these true habits. Do I believe in living endlessly together? I don't, because I think that's just playing house. But it is this first step and times are different than when I got married.
• 13:30
So I don't like to project my thoughts on this type of relationship. It's not what I would do, but everybody has to do what they're comfortable with.
• 13:40
Speaker 4: We've talked about what your first apartment looked like and like how Poppy's closet wasn't that big. Poppy bring anything with him?
• 13:48
Speaker 3: His black socks. He was not a clothes horse. Wasn't, he probably never really, you know, he had work clothes naturally and he had his golf clothes that he would wear on the weekends or whatever. You know, we didn't have that much at that point. We had what we had when we went on our honeymoon and we didn't take we didn't have households.
• 14:08
So we took whatever we had wanted from our parents. We had no articles for the apartment. Mother took the apartment when we were on our honeymoon. I don't even know what we picked out.
• 14:19
Speaker 4: Did she work with a designer or she just found stuff?
• 14:22
Speaker 3: No, I think she just She might have worked with somebody. I don't know. It was nothing that terrific.
• 14:27
Speaker 4: Then what about stuff from your registry maybe?
• 14:30
Speaker 3: Well that, we had beautiful things from our registry. Because in those days, we didn't have China that we had accumulated together. So we had all this beautiful China and we had glasses and that we in those days, we had registered at Tiffany's and my mother and my mother-in-law, and she was the sweetest person, decided before we we went on a very long honeymoon. So after they said, well, maybe we'll wash all the dishes and we'll put all the glasses away in the cabinets. So the two of them who had never done this in their lives together in their own places decided to undo the boxes that we had gotten and put them in the dishwasher in the apartment.
• 15:10
And I guess they were both sitting there waiting for the cycle to go over. They opened up the thing, all the glasses were broken. They went back down, the two of them went back down to Tiffany's without telling us because we were somewhere in Europe. And then we bought all the crystal ware and then they left it in the box and they said let them do it when they come home.
• 15:32
Speaker 4: Oh my god. Which is they couldn't even return it obviously because it was their fault.
• 15:36
Speaker 3: It was their fault. Put the stems, they were very delicate stems as it probably were completely impractical to have anyway. So what did I know when I registered, actually my mother never even went, she never cared. But I went with my mother-in-law and she always picked out everything and she had beautiful taste and I liked her taste. So she picked out things that to this day I have not used some of those things.
• 16:04
They're sitting in the thing waiting for you to use them. I don't think any, I have so many sets of dishes and glasses from
• 16:09
  Speaker 4: Oh my God.
• 16:10
Speaker 3: She and from your grandmother. So you
• 16:12
Speaker 4: have all of it?
• 16:13
Speaker 3: I have all of it. They're all sitting in the kitchen. You've seen how many sets of dishes I have, but they're not contemporary. That's the whole thing. I gave mommy a whole set and they were beautiful and she used them once for a dinner party.
• 16:26
And then she said, they're too fancy, I'm not using them again.
• 16:29
  Speaker 4: Because they
• 16:30
Speaker 3: do have to take, be a little careful, but who cares at this point, just use them. Right. They're
• 16:36
Speaker 4: better than sitting there.
• 16:37
  Speaker 3: I'm gonna unload a set.
• 16:39
Speaker 4: Well, I feel like the fact that you kept them all this time
• 16:45
Speaker 3: They're perfect. What do mean that kept them? I think I only used one set, a blue and white flower, little cornflower set that Poppy and I ate off of forever. That was the only set we ever really used for every day we didn't, for dinner. And then when my children were growing up, I think I used a white and gold set that I had.
• 17:04
But I have like eight sets of China from different relatives that all somehow ended up in my apartment.
• 17:11
Speaker 4: Why did you only request China on the register?
• 17:14
Speaker 3: No, I did. Because in those days you did dishes in China and flatware.
• 17:19
  Speaker 4: Okay.
• 17:20
Speaker 3: So nobody requested luggage. Mean, was not a thing that we ever did there. I had white luggage that my mother-in-law had bought me for a honeymoon present.
• 17:31
Speaker 4: Do you have that still?
• 17:33
Speaker 3: No, I gave that away. Don't even think that was very beautiful. It was Lark luggage. There was a company called Lark. I don't think they're in business anymore.
• 17:40
And wherever we went, we took this gorgeous white luggage with black trim. It was for most impractical luggage, But it was beautiful. It was beautiful. That was until 1963, Kim, sixty two years ago. There weren't that many people traveling either.
• 17:55
You travel, there are people careful with the things. It was a very different time. They weren't throwing things on a turnstile like they do
• 18:04
Speaker 4: in airports. Yeah. I would like to see that. I feel like now anything goes for a registry. Exactly.
• 18:10
  Put like
• 18:11
Speaker 3: The junkiest black luggage you can possibly or brown luggage or blue that you can
• 18:15
Speaker 4: No. Put But on their registry, they'll put like any home decor or Well,
• 18:22
Speaker 3: we're all living together.
• 18:23
  Speaker 4: Yeah, true.
• 18:24
Speaker 3: That's the whole thing. So they don't really want, I actually think it would be very nice if people give to charity. If they're able to do it, if they are in a position. And I think actually you had one friend who I thought was very clever because he liked wine and he registered for wine. That was very different.
• 18:43
But you have to be into something like that.
• 18:45
Speaker 4: Yeah. Or you give a few different options. Usually I see one that's like a Bloomingdale's registry, charity option, or one one other place. And they give like a few different so it just depends on Zillow, like, whatever.
• 19:02
  Speaker 3: Okay.
• 19:03
Speaker 4: But, yeah, I was thinking when you were talking about China about when you know how you say bureau? Like, for a dresser, you say bureau?
• 19:15
  Speaker 3: Yes.
• 19:16
Speaker 4: People like couldn't get over that because you said it in a video once and they thought it was like the funniest craziest thing because nobody knows that word apparently. Not used anymore? It's not used a lot. I was trying to think if there was anything else like that.
• 19:32
Speaker 3: Kim, I have no idea. Probably everything I say to you Yeah. Is people I have to tell you one thing. I went to a restaurant Saturday night. I had so many friends that wanted to know about your sofa.
• 19:45
Went from table, I got up, I got in one section of the restaurant, four women came up to me. Then six men, actually one of the men who was very handsome, but I couldn't think, I have to tell you, it was a terrible thing. Who's our talent agent?
• 19:58
  Speaker 4: WME. William Barrison,
• 20:01
Speaker 3: I think I said that. He was evidently in sports and he said, do something with us. I said, oh my gosh. I said, right now I can't do that. Very busy.
• 20:13
  He's sports agent,
• 20:15
  Speaker 4: you mean?
• 20:16
Speaker 3: No, I think he must do something with sports, this man. Anyway, he was taking pictures with me. Then I
• 20:21
Speaker 4: I went always tell people that my email is in our Instagram bio.
• 20:26
Speaker 3: Oh, I didn't even think of that. Know if
• 20:29
Speaker 4: they ever wanna get in touch, can just email me.
• 20:31
Speaker 3: Trust me, this guy's gonna find me again.
• 20:34
  Speaker 4: Probably.
• 20:35
Speaker 3: Polo thing down here, that polo restaurant, it's got so many people your age and everybody knows what everybody else is doing. It's the most happening fun place. I love it and I love
• 20:46
Speaker 4: the I still haven't been though.
• 20:47
Speaker 3: Oh, you're going to go this time when you come down. You're going to be in Palm Beach. We're moderating a lecture on Bobby Brown on her new book at Glazer Hall. Bobby Brown's still Bobbying. So if people are in Florida and they're listening to this podcast this week, they should come to Glazer Hall and come hear us.
• 21:07
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm excited for that. I guess it's only in a week. What's the date, March?
• 21:13
Speaker 3: Nineteenth. Nineteenth? Yeah, it's next Thursday. It's a week from this Thursday. Book is great, I loved it.
• 21:21
Speaker 4: Right, yeah. Gotta think about our questions and everything.
• 21:25
Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so. I think you better get on to that. But anyway, we haven't been and then we're going to keep this game, which I'm very excited Kim.
• 21:33
Speaker 4: Yeah. We're going to the Ritz because grandma and I are celebrating our five years of Excuse My Grandma, and we thought it would be really nice to go there. I've heard such good things. They just renovated. So we're gonna, you know, do spa and beach and check out the amenities.
• 21:48
So that'll be fun as well.
• 21:50
Speaker 3: We're gonna have a good time. I'm really far. It's very far actually from Palm Beach. It's like a good
• 21:57
  Speaker 4: Two hours maybe.
• 21:58
Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. I think so. It's all the way in the near the Keys. Within the Keys, a different vibe.
• 22:06
Speaker 4: Different vibe. Oh, we're going to have to pack for that. Haven't
• 22:09
Speaker 3: I thought of know. I've been thinking about that because you know me as not I'm not going in a bathing suit. But I have to get a I don't know if I need a nicer looking cover up. I don't really love Yeah, my I might have to go splurge. I mean, have 1,000 things in your closet.
• 22:24
Speaker 4: I don't love my swim either. I feel like I always want to refresh it.
• 22:28
Speaker 3: Well, that I'm not refreshing. You can refresh yours. I have to just get a cute little cover up, I think.
• 22:34
Speaker 4: Yeah. And Poppy's gonna come. So that'll be fun.
• 22:36
Speaker 3: Poppy's coming. He's so excited. He's already made two spa things.
• 22:41
Speaker 4: Oh my god. We're
• 22:43
Speaker 3: doing our our our spa things. So he's he's excited.
• 22:47
Speaker 4: Okay. Yeah. He texted me, and he was like, do I make my spa reservations through you? And I was like, no. I think you need to call the hotel.
• 22:53
Speaker 3: He did. He did. He did everything.
• 22:55
Speaker 4: Yeah. So that'll be fun. But I'm I'm not coming down for another week or so because there is so much here to do with the apartment. So I've just been doing that as much as I can. Grandma, what is something you wish that you documented or like cherished when you first moved in with Poppy?
• 23:12
I wanna make sure I don't miss any moment or get too caught up in the logistics.
• 23:17
Speaker 3: I just I think you should just look over I think what I like most when we first got married was discovering the neighborhood because we were not city people. So we spent the first couple of weeks really scouting out the neighborhood. We wanted to see which coffee shop we really liked the best, which market we went to. They're all gone now. The cleaner that we ended up using that I used for many, many years.
• 23:42
All those things that make life more fun. And the Upper East Side, where you are, is a wonderful area for young people. There's so many open air coffee shops and so many terrific things. And it's so basically so safe that people just enjoy the area. We don't, I never thought about anything.
• 24:03
And I think it's actually even gotten better than when I was married.

Speaker 4: That's a good point. Thinking about what changes when you move in together, for you, was also gaining an entire city and neighborhood and all I'm those now in the neighborhood I grew up in. Obviously there are new spots.
• 24:21
Speaker 3: You were not an adult. You were not in charge of your own personal things when you lived in the Upper East Side. Your mom did all that stuff. So now you're in a different position to find different markets and different little things in your
• 24:34
Speaker 4: Yeah. But I know everything already.
• 24:36
Speaker 3: Well, a lot of the things are the same thing as you had downtown. Mean, it's just where
• 24:41
Speaker 4: like, I know where you or mom go grocery shopping, I just go there. Like, it's not that much discovery.
• 24:48
Speaker 3: Sometimes people, find little little cute little places to go that that were not that, you know, mom didn't use. So it's a discovery moment.
• 24:56
Speaker 4: Yeah. I have a note on my phone, and it's organized in coffee shops, restaurants k. Grocery. And I have a check off list. So every time we go to a new place, we can check it off and try everything and then figure
• 25:12
Speaker 3: out like what our
• 25:13
Speaker 4: favorites are. I feel like that's a good way to go about it and just stay
• 25:17
  Speaker 3: Sounds great.
• 25:17
Speaker 4: Organized. Did you have any weird neighbors or good neighbors?
• 25:24
Speaker 3: Well, no. I don't know if I had any first of must be very truthful now that we're talking on this podcast. I got pregnant within six months of when I got married. I was only in my first apartment for a little over a year.
• 25:40
Speaker 4: Yeah, but you only moved a few blocks after.
• 25:43
Speaker 3: Well, that's what I was gonna say. I moved from 75th to 72nd And 3rd. That far? Even though you think you're only moving three blocks, I used a whole different set of support stores and it was a whole different thing. Course, those days,
• 26:02
Speaker 4: So didn't really talk to your neighbors at
• 26:05
Speaker 3: the The 1st Floor I lived in, I don't think so. I don't remember any of that. I had a neighbor above us because the one time I did cook, every time the woman watered, we were on a high floor and she had a terrace, I above us. And every time I cooked dinner, she would be watering her terrace and it came into my stove.
• 26:24
Speaker 4: Yeah, you said that.
• 26:25
Speaker 3: So couldn't get it. I stopped the stove situation completely in the afternoon. And they because they never really I don't think they fixed that terrace. That building is still here. Then where you moved the
• 26:37
Speaker 4: next place you moved to is not where not your house.
• 26:42
Speaker 3: No. No. So at that place did you make We went to, we lived in 75th, 72nd And 80th. I've only lived in three buildings in the last sixty two years. Where did you
• 26:56
Speaker 4: to know your neighbors the most?
• 26:59
Speaker 3: Don't know if you get to know your neighbors. It was more like I had friends that I had met either from our
• 27:08
Speaker 4: Like life and they happened to live in the building.
• 27:10
Speaker 3: Yeah. I wasn't really building friends. Yeah.
• 27:13
Speaker 4: I have met one neighbor so far.
• 27:16
Speaker 3: Yes. At the end that lived in the building before you.
• 27:19
Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. Well, that's that's different. Like, I have a a couple friend who lives in the building, but I met on my actual floor. I've only met this one woman who lives here with her husband and and daughter who goes to one of the, like, schools private schools that I knew. And we can actually see into each other's apartments.
• 27:41
So on the first night, they waved. And so we were like eating dinner in front of the window because we didn't have any chairs we were like sitting on the window and we're like I think they're waving at us so then yours is a
• 27:52
Speaker 3: corner apartment how can they see you?
• 27:54
Speaker 4: Because we're a corner and they're the other corner on the other side of the hall
• 27:58
Speaker 3: I don't have kinky sets on that corner.
• 28:01
Speaker 4: Not planning on it. Thanks, though, Grandma. And so yeah, we were like, no, but I have to
• 28:08
  Speaker 3: be careful
• 28:08
Speaker 4: if I'm if I'm changing and like walking around the apartment or something. If I stand there, they will see me.
• 28:13
Speaker 3: Oh, Then I think you need to put a blind down there if you're doing those things. Otherwise, forget it. It's such an open airy. Yeah. It's fine.
• 28:19
That's what you wanted. You wanted all windows. Yeah. To me, that would drive me crazy because I like everything black at night. I would go nuts.
• 28:26
Speaker 4: Yeah, no, she was very nice. So I was thinking I wanted to like bake cookies or something and bring it to everyone on the floor unless that's unnecessary.
• 28:36
Speaker 3: I think it's unnecessary. And I think when you finally get your furniture and invite her over for a drink.
• 28:41
  Speaker 4: Maybe.
• 28:42
Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't think I don't I don't even know if we children. Does she have little kids?
• 28:49
Speaker 4: This couple had a teenager.
• 28:52
Speaker 3: No. I don't think you need to bring cookies for that.
• 28:54
Speaker 4: Okay. And then the other people on the floor, she was giving me the lowdown. I think they're like young couples.
• 28:59
  Speaker 3: Oh, that's Maybe they'll I
• 29:01
  Speaker 4: don't know who.
• 29:02
Speaker 3: Maybe you'll get a Marjang group in your building, which That's is really what Mel that's what your aunt does.
• 29:08
Speaker 4: I know. But I have my girls that I play Maja Zhang with already.
• 29:11
Speaker 3: But you're gonna have another night if Zach is away.
• 29:14
Speaker 4: Maybe. I don't know. Have other things to do. Think I can just dedicate one night to to Maja. Okay.
• 29:18
But anyway, I had bought cookie mix, or actually not what a liar. I bought all the ingredients to make homemade cookies because that's what I wanted to do. And then as I started making them last night, I was like, this is gonna make 10 cookies. So I can't really give it to my neighbors anyway, unless I'm rationing the cookies.
• 29:37
Speaker 3: So you gave them to Zach. Yeah. Gave the 10 cookies.
• 29:41
Speaker 4: Well, yes. But I it's harder to make them from scratch than you think. I should have just bought the mix, I think.
• 29:47
Speaker 3: The mix is perfectly good.
• 29:49
Speaker 4: But I made them from scratch, and then I put them in the oven. But I must have made them too big because it just they all Oh, expanded they blended. And blended. No. So it's really a giant cookie cake.
• 30:01
Speaker 3: So is that good? This sounds like my typical cooking experience.
• 30:04
Speaker 4: I know. And I usually don't bake, but I that was the baking experience. And then I'm going
• 30:08
  Speaker 3: It smells good.
• 30:10
Speaker 4: Yeah. And I'm gonna cook tonight because I've ordered in a lot, and I wanna try using the kitchen and everything. So that is going to be tonight's plan.
• 30:18
Speaker 3: Okay. How did they fix that light in the kitchen? That pretty light? Is that all working?
• 30:22
  Speaker 4: Yeah. It's working.
• 30:23
Speaker 3: Okay. Good. There are
• 30:24
Speaker 4: some other things that need help.
• 30:26
Speaker 3: Well, make a list. Your best friend in the whole building should be the super. That was our best friend in that, the first apartment that we had. I remember his name, actually. It's the only name I probably still remember.
• 30:38
He used to be in the apartment every day. That's so But something always breaks.
• 30:43
Speaker 4: Well the reason I was late to this call is because they just called upstairs and they were like the super wants to come up
• 30:48
Speaker 3: Don't let him come up.
• 30:50
Speaker 4: But then they said actually an emergency came up so he has to come back another time.
• 30:54
Speaker 3: Okay. Alright. Make sure he sees the imperfections that you didn't like and you're not gonna be in the apartment next week and neither is Zach. So you should have that attended to when you're away.
• 31:05
  Speaker 4: I know.
• 31:06
Speaker 3: Did anything not work? Get away with that.
• 31:09
Speaker 4: Did anything not work when you just moved in?
• 31:12
Speaker 3: No. Mine was a brand new building.
• 31:14
Speaker 4: But mine's brand new.
• 31:15
Speaker 3: Well, somebody had lived there already, so she took had put things on the wall. I didn't have anything on my walls first.
• 31:22
Speaker 4: Oh. So if you
• 31:23
Speaker 3: need them to patch anything or anything while you're not there and not you know, let them do it and the furniture's not all there yet. This is the time. Yeah. Okay, sweetheart. I think we caught up with your apartment.
